- 0:03Speaker 1: Crats Look who I found.
- 0:05Speaker 2: It's the Todd. The painting was a gift Todd.
- 0:09Speaker 3: I'm keeping it and I'm gonna keep it. What's up, Cratzy.
- 0:14Speaker 3: Good to see a big doggie.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Good to be seen kid. You look refreshed, rejuvenated.
- 0:20Speaker 3: And I'm in the hood for sure. This nice hood.
- 0:24Speaker 4: But vacation a little longer vacation than I wanted to.
- 0:28Speaker 4: But actually no, it was a good, good, long vacation.
- 0:31Speaker 4: I shouldn't say I didn't want to. I wanted to.
- 0:32Speaker 1: You wanted to and you were warm. It was it
- 0:34Speaker 1: was nice, yeah, very nice Florida sunshine.
- 0:37Speaker 4: It was delicious. You've been there a bunch of times.
- 0:39Speaker 4: We had we had one bad day, but that was
- 0:42Speaker 4: the day we went. Uh you know that that tour
- 0:45Speaker 4: you could take, You know, you can hop on all
- 0:47Speaker 4: different parks in one day. You get your private tour,
- 0:53Speaker 4: so you know what, Yeah, so you get behind the
- 0:57Speaker 4: scenes action, like we went to.
- 1:00Speaker 3: Where do we go to Safari? First we went to the.
- 1:02Speaker 4: Animal Kingdom, right, and that was great. They say, go
- 1:06Speaker 4: in the morning, the animals are just waking up. You'll
- 1:08Speaker 4: see a lot more animals. Then we went to Magic
- 1:10Speaker 4: Kingdom and went on Tron and we're like, you know what,
- 1:12Speaker 4: we want to go on again, So we go right
- 1:14Speaker 4: back to the front of the line. So then we
- 1:16Speaker 4: went to Epcot. At the end, we wanted to go
- 1:18Speaker 4: on Guardians the Galaxy. We went on three times. That
- 1:20Speaker 4: probably my most it's the most famous, most famous ride ever.
- 1:23Speaker 4: You love it, my most favorite ride ever.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Super cool, like.
- 1:30Speaker 4: Yeah, you get that that flavor where you don't have
- 1:33Speaker 4: to wait on lines. They take you behind the scenes
- 1:35Speaker 4: where the workers park and they they're like, dude, you
- 1:38Speaker 4: can go on this five times in.
- 1:39Speaker 3: A row if you want. We just kept going. That's
- 1:41Speaker 3: the ten of us. It was great.
- 1:42Speaker 1: That's the Bougeye Hyperpass right there.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Cotch, Yeah, they have they have the pass and then
- 1:48Speaker 2: they got the Fraser Pass and the frame.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Anybody can get it though anybody can can six kids.
- 1:56Speaker 3: It was. It was nice.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Anybody can get it. Todd, you gotta hit some diggers.
- 2:01Speaker 2: You gotta hit more diggers than I hit to be
- 2:04Speaker 2: able to afford that. Let's put that way.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Listen.
- 2:06Speaker 4: I talked to the guy, I got his number four.
- 2:08Speaker 4: You I got your little hook up. If you really
- 2:10Speaker 4: want to.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Go the Fraser front of the line pass I'll take.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Beauty. We're gonna have some fun. Todd Father's on with
- 2:20Speaker 1: us tomorrow as well, and we actually are going to
- 2:23Speaker 1: have quite a few moves. It's the non tender deadline tomorrow,
- 2:28Speaker 1: so you'll see some players cut, some names that we know.
- 2:31Speaker 1: You'll see some players traded away, including one that we're
- 2:34Speaker 1: going to get to in a moment. Let's charge charge
- 2:42Speaker 1: multiple Braves moves. I want to start with friisel Iglesias.
- 2:45Speaker 1: The Braves opted to not trade him at the deadline. Instead,
- 2:50Speaker 1: they keep him even though they weren't in contention. He
- 2:52Speaker 1: pitches very well down the stretch, and now he's back
- 2:56Speaker 1: to a team that's contending in twenty twenty six one year,
- 2:59Speaker 1: sixteen million bucks. This is a good barometer of approximately
- 3:04Speaker 1: where the price will go for a closer like this.
- 3:08Speaker 1: There are better ones out there, so they might be
- 3:10Speaker 1: pushing twenty plus a year. But Mark Bowman helping us
- 3:13Speaker 1: out with the final forty five appearances in twenty twenty
- 3:15Speaker 1: five for Rice Ilglacia's Todd Father that is pristine one
- 3:18Speaker 1: two five ERA thirty percent K percentage twenty one out
- 3:22Speaker 1: of twenty two saves in those final forty five appearances.
- 3:26Speaker 1: This was him answering a question from a fan wondering
- 3:29Speaker 1: if he would be a setup guy if the Braves
- 3:31Speaker 1: land a legit closer. I think this is their closer
- 3:34Speaker 1: for twenty twenty six, and they're paying him the same
- 3:37Speaker 1: that they paid him in the previous season sixteen million
- 3:40Speaker 1: bucks to bring him back. One other thing to add
- 3:42Speaker 1: before you comment is some think that he was more
- 3:46Speaker 1: prone to signing with Atlanta because they kept him. Do
- 3:49Speaker 1: you think that's the that's a thing of players.
- 3:51Speaker 4: I love this question because I'm sure it's in a
- 3:54Speaker 4: lot of people's minds, fans and you know, other guys
- 3:57Speaker 4: that have played. But listen, I've been a part of
- 4:00Speaker 4: six team crats. He's been a part of a bunch more.
- 4:04Speaker 4: I think you're more susceptible of trying to link back
- 4:07Speaker 4: with that team. And I say this knowing that won
- 4:11Speaker 4: the relationships and too comfort just being comfortable. And I
- 4:15Speaker 4: know when I was a free agent, I was a
- 4:18Speaker 4: guy that basically said, hey, listen, you know we haven't
- 4:21Speaker 4: got much offered these first month, month and a half.
- 4:23Speaker 4: Let's go back to the teams that I was with
- 4:25Speaker 4: and see maybe there's a connection there. You know, maybe
- 4:27Speaker 4: I'll take a little less just to go back to
- 4:29Speaker 4: there because I know the place. Yeah, it's just about
- 4:31Speaker 4: being comfortable about knowing your surroundings and do you like
- 4:34Speaker 4: the people around you, And I think that that was
- 4:36Speaker 4: a major cause of this. I think it's a perfect
- 4:40Speaker 4: place for him. I love Ross Ayo. He's a really
- 4:42Speaker 4: good dude, Scottie. He's fun loving dude. He can pitch.
- 4:45Speaker 4: I know he's had some injuries over the years, but
- 4:48Speaker 4: this is a guy. I mean, shoot, one year, sixteen million.
- 4:51Speaker 4: What happens if he does it again what he did
- 4:53Speaker 4: in the back half, You never know. Then he can
- 4:55Speaker 4: get a bigger deal. But yes, I think this is
- 4:56Speaker 4: a great sign the Braves keep doing this. This is
- 5:00Speaker 4: like you know, you know, day Drave all over again
- 5:03Speaker 4: with with this. Like last year, they were the first ones.
- 5:05Speaker 4: They came out and got the right handed pitcher from
- 5:08Speaker 4: the White Sox. I'm just having a little brain fard
- 5:11Speaker 4: here of who it was, but they came out and
- 5:13Speaker 4: I think it was low Pez right right now, Lopez,
- 5:17Speaker 4: and we're like, man, what a great what a great
- 5:19Speaker 4: deal for them. So they're they're they're firing right now
- 5:21Speaker 4: early and they're gonna be firing offten.
- 5:23Speaker 3: We'll see.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Well, they kept Lopez. They got him a couple of
- 5:25Speaker 1: years ago, right, and then he had a great movie.
- 5:28Speaker 1: They kept him. On The point is Anthopolis likes to
- 5:31Speaker 1: do his business early in the off season.
- 5:34Speaker 3: He wants to go on vacation.
- 5:36Speaker 1: He wants that Phraser pass.
- 5:38Speaker 2: He knows how much he wants to pay. And I
- 5:40Speaker 2: don't know necessarily that Russell has gotten, you know, gave
- 5:44Speaker 2: the team a team discount on this one. I just
- 5:46Speaker 2: think your question, Scott was, do you feel some type
- 5:50Speaker 2: of way because the team didn't trade you? No, Like
- 5:55Speaker 2: I've been traded, cut, rehired, fired again, re signed, like
- 6:01Speaker 2: I've pretty much gone through every type of transaction. Like
- 6:06Speaker 2: I was pissed that the Brewers got rid of me
- 6:08Speaker 2: in nineteen. I was pissed that they went and got
- 6:11Speaker 2: YASMANI Grandal had the Brewers called me like at the
- 6:15Speaker 2: end of nineteen and when I was a minor league
- 6:17Speaker 2: free agent in the middle of the season, I'd going
- 6:20Speaker 2: back there like I had while I was pissed at him,
- 6:23Speaker 2: you still want to be in the big leagues. Rycelle
- 6:26Speaker 2: Iglesias doesn't have that issue. If he was, you know,
- 6:29Speaker 2: maybe he was mad he didn't get traded because he
- 6:32Speaker 2: didn't get to go play in the playoffs. Like sometimes
- 6:34Speaker 2: guys would be cool like I'm fine getting traded, like
- 6:38Speaker 2: we ain't going nowhere this year. Our team is brutes mcgoots.
- 6:41Speaker 2: But so the whole like feeling, ah man, I feel
- 6:45Speaker 2: it's different when a guy's been with an organization for
- 6:47Speaker 2: six years and then they're like, ah, he left in
- 6:50Speaker 2: free agency, no way he comes back, or he gets
- 6:53Speaker 2: traded part way through. You don't want your big time
- 6:56Speaker 2: free agents, which risell is not to go and test
- 7:00Speaker 2: the other waters, to go and see and talk to
- 7:03Speaker 2: a team like hey, what's this clubhouse? Like what's your travel? Like?
- 7:06Speaker 2: How's that different? Especially you know when you have a
- 7:10Speaker 2: guy that has to be resigned for a decent contract.
- 7:13Speaker 2: So I just think this case is it's not the
- 7:16Speaker 2: same case. But I'm sure there are people who would
- 7:19Speaker 2: be like, no, I'm not resigning back there if they
- 7:21Speaker 2: traded me. Screw those guys, which, you know, check your
- 7:24Speaker 2: feelings a little bit.
- 7:25Speaker 3: Check the MYSA.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Do you have a microphone on?
- 7:29Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 7:32Speaker 3: He does, Yeah, which is great on the screen.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Okay, we're just getting a question, all right, so I'm
- 7:40Speaker 1: in between here. Ready, Ready, If I sell Glaciers gets
- 7:45Speaker 1: offered one year twenty million to a different team, he's
- 7:51Speaker 1: probably gone there. Sure, right, Sure, one year seventeen million. Also,
- 7:57Speaker 1: let's keep in mind taxes are thing, right, So it
- 8:00Speaker 1: depends on the stage where you going.
- 8:02Speaker 3: This was a team he was a free agent or
- 8:04Speaker 3: was he not free agent? Free agent?
- 8:05Speaker 4: And they went one year sixteen and he said yes, yeah,
- 8:08Speaker 4: And everybody understands that he's thirty five years old.
- 8:11Speaker 1: So yeah, this is a free agent who's making this decision? Right?
- 8:16Speaker 1: And I think it depends on where you are, how
- 8:19Speaker 1: much money you've made, how much is the difference between
- 8:22Speaker 1: what you're being offered and what other teams are throwing out?
- 8:24Speaker 1: There are other teams even throwing anything out there. And
- 8:26Speaker 1: the reason I ask that is many teams are kind
- 8:29Speaker 1: of softerly on in the offseason and they just dance.
- 8:32Speaker 1: They call the agents, they tickle, They say, oh, we
- 8:36Speaker 1: like this part about him, we don't like this part
- 8:37Speaker 1: about him. This is the range that we think. We
- 8:41Speaker 1: talked a lot of free agents right over off seasons
- 8:43Speaker 1: and they tell us about the whole little tap dance
- 8:45Speaker 1: that they do, and he gets a call, Hey, here's
- 8:47Speaker 1: a real offer. Maybe you'll get a few mill more.
- 8:49Speaker 1: But if you want to wait and be the last
- 8:51Speaker 1: man standing out of the closer carsel, which there are
- 8:53Speaker 1: many of them, you might not get the number that
- 8:56Speaker 1: looks like this. This is a comfortable spot. They go
- 8:58Speaker 1: for it, so I give them credit on that front.
- 9:00Speaker 1: You have one more pointcraft and then I want to
- 9:02Speaker 1: get to what else the Braves did.
- 9:04Speaker 2: I love sixteen I mean we'd even hit on it.
- 9:05Speaker 2: I love sixteen million for a closer right now at
- 9:07Speaker 2: thirty five years old. Chappie signed an extension for thirteen
- 9:12Speaker 2: a year last year and he's he's the closer of
- 9:16Speaker 2: the year for the American League. Like for him. I
- 9:19Speaker 2: like that Alexanthopolis has always done this. There's certain organizations
- 9:22Speaker 2: that say we'd love to have you back. Some organizations
- 9:26Speaker 2: say we'd love to have you back, but at a
- 9:28Speaker 2: little hometown discount. There's other organizations and I know AA
- 9:32Speaker 2: Alexanthopolis is that type where he's like, here's what I
- 9:36Speaker 2: know you're worth. You go out and pedal that deal,
- 9:39Speaker 2: come back to us, and that's what we'll give you.
- 9:42Speaker 2: As long as everybody's honest and upfront. That's all they're
- 9:44Speaker 2: looking form.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Hey, with Iglesias, I think you made an adjustment too.
- 9:49Speaker 1: You give a lot of homers in the first half
- 9:51Speaker 1: of the season. There were quite a few sliders catching
- 9:53Speaker 1: a little too much of the plate. You didn't see
- 9:54Speaker 1: as much of that in the second half of the year.
- 9:56Speaker 1: You look at some of the pitches that missed for
- 9:59Speaker 1: him in the first half of the season that led
- 10:00Speaker 1: to homers. They had quite a few what Fangrafts calls meltdowns.
- 10:04Speaker 1: That's a new stat that we'll have to get to
- 10:05Speaker 1: at some point. They pegged him at eleven. That's a lot,
- 10:08Speaker 1: but a lot of action on the wrong side came
- 10:11Speaker 1: in the beginning of the season, which happened to be
- 10:13Speaker 1: bad timing for an Atlanta team that played much better
- 10:15Speaker 1: down the stretch. But they kind of lost it early. Okay.
- 10:17Speaker 1: So step two for the Braves is the trade they
- 10:20Speaker 1: make with the Astros two very good defensive players, moving
- 10:25Speaker 1: Nick Allen from the Braves over to Houston right, and
- 10:29Speaker 1: he played really good shortstop defense for them last year
- 10:31Speaker 1: at one of the weakest bats in the Bigs. Mauricio
- 10:34Speaker 1: Dubon goes the other way, super utility guy who can
- 10:37Speaker 1: play a number of different spots and play it well.
- 10:39Speaker 1: And he's a better offensive player than Nick Allen. Some
- 10:44Speaker 1: people online are like, oh see, this is their backup
- 10:46Speaker 1: option for shortstop. I think the Braves are going for
- 10:50Speaker 1: a little more big game hunting on their every day
- 10:53Speaker 1: starting shortstop. But Dubon gives you a ton of insurance.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Todd Father, it's not just at short as the Allbeasts
- 10:58Speaker 1: dealt with a number of injuries over his career and
- 11:00Speaker 1: he's coming off surgery. Austin Riley's dealt with some injuries lately.
- 11:04Speaker 1: So this is the guy you can plug in just
- 11:06Speaker 1: about anywhere for Atlanta and he kind of what some
- 11:08Speaker 1: people will say, ups your floor, right, This is a
- 11:11Speaker 1: better hitter than Nick Allen and a guy who should
- 11:13Speaker 1: play comparable enough defense at a number of different spots
- 11:16Speaker 1: to make you better.
- 11:17Speaker 4: Yeah, And I think having that one guy that can
- 11:19Speaker 4: play different spots is key, especially for a Braves team
- 11:23Speaker 4: that has the injuries, that has the guys on the
- 11:25Speaker 4: team where you're like, oh, I hope he hope he's
- 11:28Speaker 4: healthy all the way through the year, so this guy
- 11:30Speaker 4: can step in. He's not afraid to play any position.
- 11:33Speaker 4: I love Nick Allen played with him in the USA
- 11:35Speaker 4: team when we want a silver medal. But you know,
- 11:38Speaker 4: his defense is great. It's got to pick that bat up.
- 11:40Speaker 4: I think he will. You know, he's not the home
- 11:41Speaker 4: run hitter. He's not the guy who's going to drive
- 11:43Speaker 4: in you know, eighty runs a game or a season.
- 11:47Speaker 4: Excuse me, but again, you know, I don't know, you
- 11:51Speaker 4: know what Houston was kind of thinking around this part.
- 11:53Speaker 4: But you know, we never know. We never know what
- 11:55Speaker 4: a team's thinking. They're trying to set up room for
- 11:58Speaker 4: somebody else. But again, Dubam is a really good athlete.
- 12:01Speaker 4: He's a good player. Is he going to wow you
- 12:02Speaker 4: with the bat? No, but he is a pretty decent
- 12:05Speaker 4: offensive player.
- 12:06Speaker 1: I know what they were thinking, let's save a good
- 12:09Speaker 1: chunk of money so we can spend it elsewhere. Because
- 12:12Speaker 1: Houston is actually one of those team sprats that dances
- 12:15Speaker 1: around the soft salary cap number. So those that don't
- 12:18Speaker 1: think it works, it doesn't work on everyone, right unless
- 12:21Speaker 1: you have a super hard cap, which the NBA doesn't
- 12:24Speaker 1: even have if you keep your own guys, Houston dances
- 12:27Speaker 1: around what is the luxury tax number. Jim Crean does
- 12:30Speaker 1: that sometimes over, sometimes under, but that's the game that
- 12:33Speaker 1: they play, and he really treats it like a salary cap.
- 12:36Speaker 2: He does. And I think this move was precipitated by
- 12:40Speaker 2: the fact that they got Carlos Korea. They got him earlier,
- 12:44Speaker 2: and it's like, well, you know what, if we take
- 12:46Speaker 2: this on, we got to dump a little bit salary later.
- 12:48Speaker 2: So moving around the cap, or moving around the CBT
- 12:53Speaker 2: tax threshold as they want to call it. I hope
- 12:58Speaker 2: it doesn't come back to Burnham because Houston's Houston's been there,
- 13:02Speaker 2: They've been around that area the whole time, but they're
- 13:04Speaker 2: paying some of their stars a little bit more. And
- 13:07Speaker 2: when you have injuries and you're not willing to go
- 13:10Speaker 2: over that cap, not willing to go over that threshold,
- 13:14Speaker 2: sometimes you don't have the backup plans and du Bond's
- 13:19Speaker 2: not going to light the world on fire at the plate,
- 13:22Speaker 2: but he gives you gold Glove utility defense, which for
- 13:27Speaker 2: the Astros it kind of mitigated some of those injuries
- 13:31Speaker 2: and able to him to step in and sit through
- 13:34Speaker 2: there till their starter came back. But the Braves now
- 13:38Speaker 2: have been a team that have dudes that play one
- 13:40Speaker 2: fifty five to one sixty two all year maybe they're seeing, Hey,
- 13:45Speaker 2: you know what if we bring a guy like this in. Yes,
- 13:47Speaker 2: we're still going to go after a shortstop, but now
- 13:50Speaker 2: we have a guy who can step in and do
- 13:52Speaker 2: bond and give everybody a day off. So instead of
- 13:55Speaker 2: our one to fifty five's, we're playing one forty one
- 13:58Speaker 2: forty five and we're staying healthy the whole time.
- 14:02Speaker 1: The one other thing here is Ken wrote about how
- 14:06Speaker 1: war wins Abo replacement strength for this position doesn't necessarily
- 14:11Speaker 1: have to be super high for you to be a
- 14:13Speaker 1: successful team. He pointed to the Mariners, the Yankees, Milwaukee, Cleveland,
- 14:17Speaker 1: and Detroit as ranking in the bottom ten in Fangraft's
- 14:21Speaker 1: war at the shortstop position, and he added the Toronto
- 14:24Speaker 1: Blue Jays, who in September turned to Andre Semenez over
- 14:27Speaker 1: at shortstop, who was one of the worst offensive players
- 14:29Speaker 1: in the sport this season. I see all of that,
- 14:32Speaker 1: but I would still rather have a shortstop that can thump.
- 14:36Speaker 1: I think you could say that about almost any position, right,
- 14:38Speaker 1: Like you could be a team that's a World Series
- 14:40Speaker 1: team and doesn't have a great player offensively at one
- 14:43Speaker 1: particular position, but like you'd rather have a dude that
- 14:46Speaker 1: can mash and handle the position defensively, so I don't
- 14:50Speaker 1: want that to be used as a cop out. I
- 14:51Speaker 1: think the Braves are looking for shortstop. I just think
- 14:53Speaker 1: that they want Kim. He might want to go somewhere else.
- 14:58Speaker 1: There aren't a ton of great options out there this year.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Trademarket pending. I mean, Ken mentioned Corey Seger in his
- 15:04Speaker 1: in his article, I don't know if that's a feasible spot,
- 15:07Speaker 1: and he also mentioned how they're actually on Seegers no
- 15:09Speaker 1: trade list. That doesn't mean he wouldn't wave it, but
- 15:11Speaker 1: we also don't know if he's necessarily available. That's a
- 15:14Speaker 1: whole other world. But can we just agree that if
- 15:16Speaker 1: you have the option of a shortstop kit that can match,
- 15:19Speaker 1: you rather have that.
- 15:21Speaker 3: Why wouldn't you?
- 15:21Speaker 1: Yeah, it makes you a better contending team, there's no
- 15:25Speaker 1: doubt about that. And there are guys who can play ond.
- 15:29Speaker 2: And you don't necessarily have to get that offense from
- 15:32Speaker 2: another position. Catching position is tough. Well, the Blue Jays
- 15:35Speaker 2: had Alejandra Kirk down the stretch there who was giving
- 15:39Speaker 2: you offense from the catching position? And the reason the
- 15:42Speaker 2: Blue Jays got to where they were was because Boba
- 15:45Speaker 2: Schett was driving in tons of rounds, So I get it.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Andre Sementez helped them win throughout that stretch without Bo
- 15:52Speaker 2: playing short. But I don't know, not a big fan
- 15:55Speaker 2: of that stat there, Ken, but it's a great defensive position.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Braves have really struggled there in the last well since
- 16:04Speaker 2: they got rid of Dansby.
- 16:06Speaker 1: That's right, that's right. Yeah, Orlando Rcio was in that spot,
- 16:09Speaker 1: and I mean was one of the worst shortstops for
- 16:12Speaker 1: the year that you played. Yeah, I mean it all
- 16:15Speaker 1: starts him the next year he wasn't good. But yeah,
- 16:17Speaker 1: I got it. So we can debate it with Ken
- 16:19Speaker 1: on Friday. He'll join us. Hey, there were a number
- 16:22Speaker 1: of rice agreements announced yesterday for MLB, so adjust your
- 16:27Speaker 1: screens accordingly. Twenty twenty six through twenty twenty eight, ESPN
- 16:31Speaker 1: has the MLB Dot TV package. They also have thirty
- 16:34Speaker 1: games which I believe are all exclusive and can be flexed.
- 16:37Speaker 1: They have the Little League Classic, a Todd Father Special
- 16:40Speaker 1: NBC and Peacock at Sunday Night Baseball, the Draft, the
- 16:42Speaker 1: Futures Game in the Wildcard round, Netflix gets the home
- 16:45Speaker 1: Run Derby Opening Night in the Field of Dreams game,
- 16:47Speaker 1: which returns Fox and FS one get the All Star Game,
- 16:50Speaker 1: the World Baseball Classic, and a number of playoff rounds
- 16:53Speaker 1: including of course the World Series, TBS getting the LDS
- 16:56Speaker 1: and LCS on the other side of what Fox gets,
- 16:58Speaker 1: and then Apple Fridays. So there's a lot there. If
- 17:01Speaker 1: you want to sort through it with us, we will
- 17:03Speaker 1: do that tomorrow with someone who does this for a living,
- 17:06Speaker 1: and that's Andrew Marshand, who covers sports media for the
- 17:09Speaker 1: Athletic Nice.
- 17:11Speaker 3: That's a lot we.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Still get taught. Missed the Little League, I.
- 17:16Speaker 4: Know, and I know the Little League is a whole
- 17:18Speaker 4: nother entity, which is great. So that'll be on ESPN
- 17:20Speaker 4: at least till twenty thirty. So nice World Series. But
- 17:23Speaker 4: it's good to have the Classic paired with. Yes, literally,
- 17:26Speaker 4: you're always out there for that. And how cool is
- 17:28Speaker 4: it when all the big boys show up. It's great.
- 17:30Speaker 4: It's a great event, and it's thrilling for the kids.
- 17:33Speaker 4: You know, whoever wins the game, it really it matters,
- 17:36Speaker 4: of course, but at the same time, for the kids
- 17:39Speaker 4: to have that experience, it's truly incredible.
- 17:41Speaker 3: But yeah, this is a whole big ordeal.
- 17:44Speaker 4: I know we're going to get more into it tomorrow,
- 17:45Speaker 4: but yeah, there's a lot of changes going on, and
- 17:50Speaker 4: better get them apps out voice.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe there's a lot to look at, a lot
- 17:54Speaker 1: to pay attention to.
- 17:59Speaker 2: There's a lot a lot of different channels. Hi, why's
- 18:02Speaker 2: the Valies game on it? Why isn't it on? Why
- 18:05Speaker 2: isn't it on an NBC Sports Philadelphia? What's the deal?
- 18:09Speaker 2: I hate it when it's on this I hate it
- 18:11Speaker 2: when it's on like, get with the program. It's okay,
- 18:14Speaker 2: I'll never watch it when it's on that one. Really well,
- 18:17Speaker 2: then you're just not going to watch the game.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I mean that's just the state of sports
- 18:21Speaker 1: right now. The only part I always laugh at is
- 18:23Speaker 1: at one point I'm paraphrasing, Manford was almost acting like
- 18:26Speaker 1: he's like testing out all these spots. It's like, you're
- 18:29Speaker 1: not testing out this pot, You're just getting the best deal,
- 18:31Speaker 1: and that's okay. I mean he sometimes talks about rev
- 18:34Speaker 1: I'm like, just tell it like it is. You don't
- 18:35Speaker 1: want it to be on ninety different places, but you're
- 18:37Speaker 1: going to sell it to the places that make sense,
- 18:39Speaker 1: and that's fine. I'm fine with that, and I think
- 18:41Speaker 1: people know that. But acting like it's like, oh, we
- 18:44Speaker 1: just want you know, one appetizer on the menu, like
- 18:48Speaker 1: we want all ten on the menu from each spot
- 18:51Speaker 1: because that'll please our palette. Come on, all right, we're
- 18:54Speaker 1: back on the non tender list. There was one article
- 18:58Speaker 1: that had Alec bohms him as possibility. Are resident Philly
- 19:02Speaker 1: guy or krats? No way. I mean, even if the
- 19:05Speaker 1: Phillies don't want to keep him, that's that's a big
- 19:08Speaker 1: league ballplayer. Team's not going to take that on. For
- 19:11Speaker 1: what is he going to make in his final season?
- 19:15Speaker 2: I mean I don't even know if he I don't
- 19:17Speaker 2: know if he eclipses the ten million mark. To me, yeah,
- 19:22Speaker 2: I don't see why they would non tender the people.
- 19:25Speaker 2: I think people just looked at it and they go, oh,
- 19:27Speaker 2: you know, his ops plus his only you know, league
- 19:30Speaker 2: average and stuff. But before this year, and I spent
- 19:33Speaker 2: some time on IL this year, he's back to back
- 19:35Speaker 2: ninety seven RBI seasons. Like you don't you don't need
- 19:40Speaker 2: all superstars in every facet of your lineup. You need
- 19:44Speaker 2: dudes that can do some other things. And like his
- 19:47Speaker 2: defense is continually improving, Like I'm giving Todd's third basement
- 19:51Speaker 2: love here, Like keep that man around.
- 19:54Speaker 1: Yeah, he might get traded. But I mean, I think
- 19:57Speaker 1: he's going to be okay on on keeping his job.
- 20:00Speaker 3: Eight.
- 20:01Speaker 1: We'll see that headline tomorrow bless you, but not beyond
- 20:04Speaker 1: tomorrow because I might be sick, bless you.
- 20:09Speaker 4: I don't know what is it the weather changes and
- 20:11Speaker 4: I become this time unnatural human being.
- 20:14Speaker 2: Side you're sick all of that. You have a cough,
- 20:16Speaker 2: a sneeze, or your face just looks sweat. But Boom,
- 20:20Speaker 2: all the stuff about Boone getting traded, like last off season,
- 20:24Speaker 2: it wasn't people. It wasn't the Phillies trading him. It
- 20:28Speaker 2: was teams calling for him, like and everyone's like, oh
- 20:31Speaker 2: they hate Bomb. He had that temper tantrum, he got
- 20:34Speaker 2: sad at the end of the year. Other teams were
- 20:36Speaker 2: calling for him. So they're not just they're not just
- 20:39Speaker 2: getting rid of them. They're not just giving me away
- 20:40Speaker 2: for free.
- 20:43Speaker 1: I know a good show that has more on this.
- 20:45Speaker 1: It's called The Philly Show bottom left corner of your screen.
- 20:48Speaker 1: One other quick question I didn't get to for Mike
- 20:50Speaker 1: g was a little in the weeds, he said, ref
- 20:53Speaker 1: Snyder seems like the perfect left handed mashing fit to
- 20:56Speaker 1: platoon with Owen Casey and right field in Chicago keeps
- 20:59Speaker 1: saying the h any rumblings of this. Yeah, I could
- 21:03Speaker 1: see the Cubs dancing like that. We gotta wake up crats.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Oh they playing every day? Can we can we let
- 21:14Speaker 1: every day you know, play every day?
- 21:17Speaker 2: Yes. His his ability is to take the ball to
- 21:20Speaker 2: the opposite field. I don't care if it's left or
- 21:23Speaker 2: left right. All right, whatever your whatever your issue is,
- 21:27Speaker 2: Like platoon, Cubs shouldn't build a platoon. They should build
- 21:30Speaker 2: a team that will mash the entire NL Central So cool, awesome.
- 21:35Speaker 2: I hope they get Rob because Rob is a good player,
- 21:38Speaker 2: but Jacob.
- 21:39Speaker 1: Days injury suck.
- 21:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:48Speaker 1: We had some news that broke from Nick Krawl, the
- 21:51Speaker 1: president baseball operations for the Reds. He informed people that
- 21:55Speaker 1: Elliot de la Cruz was dealing with a partially torn
- 21:58Speaker 1: quad and that sounds pretty significant given that his production
- 22:04Speaker 1: dipped off significantly in the second half of the season.
- 22:06Speaker 1: He had a long power draft, his defense wasn't as
- 22:09Speaker 1: sharp eggs of Vila numbers not as good. Right, Almost
- 22:12Speaker 1: everything was down across the board, not to mention stolen
- 22:16Speaker 1: bases sixty seven, which led baseball in twenty twenty four.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Todd Father he totaled thirty seven stolen bags and he
- 22:23Speaker 1: played a full season. He didn't look the same, and
- 22:26Speaker 1: this does help to explain what the problem was.
- 22:29Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, you think about a couple of different scenarios,
- 22:33Speaker 4: like why not just come out and say it so
- 22:35Speaker 4: you know understandably, it's like, all right, well, knowing he
- 22:38Speaker 4: doesn't beat out that ground bowl or he's not stealing anymore.
- 22:41Speaker 4: Instead of having all this speculation two you get say, hey, man,
- 22:45Speaker 4: you know gritty hard Nos, I love it. Everybody loves
- 22:48Speaker 4: us about him.
- 22:49Speaker 3: He's great.
- 22:50Speaker 4: He fights through paying this and that I mean I
- 22:53Speaker 4: hear partially torn or torn. To me, it's not that
- 22:56Speaker 4: big of a difference because it's not fully healthy. So yeah, yeah,
- 23:00Speaker 4: he played through it. I give him credit for him kudos.
- 23:02Speaker 4: I think that's awesome. But you know, maybe there was
- 23:05Speaker 4: a time you could have, you know, understandable if everybody
- 23:08Speaker 4: kind of knew about it. You give him a day
- 23:09Speaker 4: or two off. All right, yeah, and we understand what's
- 23:12Speaker 4: going on. But for him to go out there and
- 23:14Speaker 4: keep battling through it, even though the numbers were ticked down,
- 23:17Speaker 4: goes to show to side of a person he is.
- 23:19Speaker 2: Man.
- 23:19Speaker 3: I give him respect for that.
- 23:20Speaker 1: So I do want to mention this before Kratz comments.
- 23:24Speaker 1: He said the comments on Wednesday or radio show, right,
- 23:26Speaker 1: he said, I think a lot of people don't know this.
- 23:29Speaker 1: At the end of the year, like towards the end
- 23:30Speaker 1: of July, he was dealing with a partial torn quad.
- 23:33Speaker 1: He's been rehabbing at the ballpark basically every day in
- 23:36Speaker 1: the offseason, and then on Thursday he said it was
- 23:39Speaker 1: a left quad strain, which is a partial tear. And
- 23:42Speaker 1: he didn't want to make it sound like the injury
- 23:45Speaker 1: was too serious. I mean, I'm not a doctor here.
- 23:48Speaker 1: We just play that little ding at the top of
- 23:50Speaker 1: the segment. But Kratz it does sound like it impacted
- 23:53Speaker 1: him definitely.
- 23:55Speaker 2: And a player will always put let's put it this way,
- 23:58Speaker 2: a player that you want the field or on your
- 24:01Speaker 2: team will always play through injuries. Todd knows there's dudes
- 24:04Speaker 2: that don't play through Jack. They're like, ooh no, no, no,
- 24:08Speaker 2: not gonna make it through this one. You know, they
- 24:10Speaker 2: look on the mound and it's probably Trek Scubele or
- 24:13Speaker 2: Chris Sale. But there's dudes that play through everything. So
- 24:17Speaker 2: that's awesome that he wants to play through this that
- 24:19Speaker 2: he wanted to be out there and felt like his
- 24:22Speaker 2: eighty percent was better than anything else that they were
- 24:25Speaker 2: going to put out there. This is where the training staff,
- 24:29Speaker 2: the manager, the front office, the coaches need to be
- 24:33Speaker 2: able to step in and say, we get it. You
- 24:36Speaker 2: could be a franchise player for us. We have other
- 24:39Speaker 2: people like Noel Vie Marte used to play shortstop. I
- 24:42Speaker 2: don't think he's a shortstop anymore. They pushed him the
- 24:45Speaker 2: right field. So a half a eighty percent Ellida Cruz,
- 24:50Speaker 2: it's short is probably better than a lot of guys.
- 24:53Speaker 2: But is there a chance that they could have gotten
- 24:56Speaker 2: him off his feet, that they could have gotten him
- 24:58Speaker 2: when he's in the middle of a slump of two
- 25:00Speaker 2: hundred and one at bats where he had one home
- 25:03Speaker 2: run like that, they could have said, hey, you know
- 25:06Speaker 2: what this thing's really We can tell it's really bugging
- 25:09Speaker 2: you and you're not one hundred percent, and we'll slot
- 25:12Speaker 2: Noel v Marte in for a week. You'll come back,
- 25:15Speaker 2: you'll be banger ring. He might fight you, he might
- 25:17Speaker 2: say no, I want to play because I play. That's
- 25:19Speaker 2: what I do. But you got to be able to
- 25:22Speaker 2: make that decision. What's best for the team because the
- 25:24Speaker 2: Reds clearly needed every single game to get to where
- 25:27Speaker 2: they got to.
- 25:28Speaker 1: Yeah, he played a full one sixty two. It's the
- 25:31Speaker 1: whole balance of who would play instead of Ellie for
- 25:35Speaker 1: that time period and would that be enough versus Ellie
- 25:38Speaker 1: getting the rest and then maybe being more of a
- 25:40Speaker 1: version of himself previously. We don't know the answer. What
- 25:43Speaker 1: we do know is he was not close to one
- 25:46Speaker 1: hundred percent. So yeah, all right, let's get two yes,
- 25:51Speaker 1: last word.
- 25:52Speaker 2: No, no, no, you just you had a guy that
- 25:55Speaker 2: could step in. We're not talking the whole season, just
- 25:57Speaker 2: to step in.
- 25:58Speaker 1: That's it, right, right, all right, so we'll see the
- 26:01Speaker 1: real version of Ellie again. In spring training, Texas native
- 26:06Speaker 1: and now angel Grayson Rodriguez was asked if he'll be
- 26:10Speaker 1: ready to pitch a full season. His response, absolutely. I
- 26:14Speaker 1: had some bone spurs removed back in August this year.
- 26:17Speaker 1: That was something that's kind of lingered with me for
- 26:18Speaker 1: about three or four years now. I've held I've had
- 26:21Speaker 1: them for a while, and I kind of just got
- 26:22Speaker 1: to the point where I couldn't really pitch through it.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Pretty sure. That's kind of what was causing some of
- 26:26Speaker 1: the lat injuries. So just being able to get those
- 26:28Speaker 1: out of there. My arm feels great right now throwing.
- 26:30Speaker 1: There's really no question for me to be ready for
- 26:34Speaker 1: spring training. Gratz, have you seen the guest list for
- 26:37Speaker 1: tomorrow Friday show.
- 26:39Speaker 2: I have, and I'm so glad that Grayson's coming on.
- 26:42Speaker 2: I mean that was ironic. He was going to be
- 26:44Speaker 2: coming on anyway, and he's still coming on. And I'm
- 26:47Speaker 2: so glad that I have gotten eviscerated on Twitter for
- 26:52Speaker 2: the comments I said about the fact that Grayson Rodriguez
- 26:56Speaker 2: is still a good pitcher and the fact that the
- 26:59Speaker 2: Orioles should not have gotten rid of him. I mean,
- 27:01Speaker 2: everybody's very much. You know, what have you done for
- 27:05Speaker 2: me lately? And you know what, he hasn't been on
- 27:07Speaker 2: the field. I'm gonna double down and I'm gonna say
- 27:11Speaker 2: careful what you wish for their people, just saying Grayson
- 27:16Speaker 2: Rodriguez can pitch a baseball pretty well.
- 27:21Speaker 1: Kratz is describing my Thursday morning at like eight am,
- 27:24Speaker 1: going through YouTube comments, going back and forth with people.
- 27:27Speaker 1: I'm going to save most of it the Baltimore side.
- 27:30Speaker 1: We'll talk about. Since Ken Rosenthal put out a notes
- 27:32Speaker 1: column that included some aggressiveness coming up for Baltimore. We
- 27:37Speaker 1: will get to that. I just want to go back
- 27:39Speaker 1: to the Grayson side for one more minute while we
- 27:41Speaker 1: have it before we return here for the Angels. Come on,
- 27:46Speaker 1: you gotta take a flyer, oh player like this. This
- 27:50Speaker 1: is a no brainer, no brainer stuff. We've seen it
- 27:55Speaker 1: play in the big leagues. He's gone through injuries. It's
- 27:58Speaker 1: nothing out of the ordinary that we have seen from
- 28:00Speaker 1: other young pitchers in the sport. There is a very
- 28:04Speaker 1: good chance that Grayson Rodriguez figures out his health and
- 28:08Speaker 1: then is a very effective picture for the Angels.
- 28:12Speaker 2: Nope, no chance, Twitter says, no, there's no way. You're wrong.
- 28:16Speaker 2: Scott is wrong. You're wrong. You're an idiot.
- 28:19Speaker 3: What else idiot?
- 28:21Speaker 1: Cooked? Favorite word cooked? Army is cooked? Oh really, twenty
- 28:25Speaker 1: six year old arm with what how many innings in
- 28:28Speaker 1: the big leagues is cooked already?
- 28:30Speaker 2: Okay, six foot four two and thirty pound specimen. I've
- 28:35Speaker 2: seen guys be hurt. I've seen it. I've also seen
- 28:38Speaker 2: him figure it out. I've seen him figure it out,
- 28:40Speaker 2: and I mean, I can't wait to ask Grayson. I
- 28:43Speaker 2: can't wait. But the Orioles just keep saying, eh, pitching's
- 28:46Speaker 2: not that big a deal. We'll get We'll get Chicano.
- 28:49Speaker 2: Pitching's not that big a deal. We won't give the
- 28:51Speaker 2: extra year to Corbyn Burns, who really liked it in Baltimore.
- 28:55Speaker 2: So come on, Twitter, bring it on.
- 28:59Speaker 1: An Angels fan should be excited. I texted with some
- 29:02Speaker 1: and some people in the media world that were really
- 29:04Speaker 1: excited for the Angels to pick up a guy like
- 29:06Speaker 1: this who's not gonna cost much. You would think he's
- 29:08Speaker 1: He's never gone more than like five to seven starts
- 29:10Speaker 1: in the big leagues. I mean, you know, is two
- 29:13Speaker 1: seasons here before missing twenty twenty five, twenty three starts,
- 29:17Speaker 1: twenty starts, well over a hondo innings. It's not like
- 29:20Speaker 1: he hasn't pitched.
- 29:22Speaker 2: The Dodgers call that a complete season for there guys.
- 29:25Speaker 1: True, just time, four crats hats.
- 29:44Speaker 4: What's he wearing? It's like a I think Tigers. It's
- 29:47Speaker 4: like a lightish orange, probably Phillies.
- 29:50Speaker 3: Oh I was right, Burn, Absolutely.
- 29:54Speaker 4: You can go with that. What college team can you
- 29:57Speaker 4: go with that one? Come on, let's se Come on,
- 30:00Speaker 4: it's orange. Come on, baby, come on, last chance? What'd
- 30:04Speaker 4: you say?
- 30:06Speaker 2: Cles? No?
- 30:08Speaker 4: Come on, come on, thank you not Orange Princeton.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Come on, oh Princeton. Oh man, I didn't even think
- 30:16Speaker 1: about them, I know, come on, such a Ruckers guy.
- 30:22Speaker 1: I just can't get my mind off the Scarlet Knights.
- 30:26Speaker 1: All right, here we are, we're back. We got a
- 30:28Speaker 1: few extra minutes. Then we'll throw you to Dodger's territory,
- 30:31Speaker 1: firing up with that show at three o'clock. Okay, we're
- 30:35Speaker 1: looking at the non tender candidates for the deadline, which
- 30:38Speaker 1: happens to be tomorrow night. Maybe we'll get some moves
- 30:41Speaker 1: as the day continues during the show tomorrow and we
- 30:44Speaker 1: can talk about either trades or players that get cut loose.
- 30:48Speaker 1: One name that could be cut loose Jonah him So
- 30:56Speaker 1: MLB trade rumors hasn't met about six million bucks, and
- 31:00Speaker 1: you know his defense and offense has declined in the
- 31:03Speaker 1: last couple of years. It's not big money, but it's
- 31:06Speaker 1: been talked about.
- 31:09Speaker 3: I have no idea why.
- 31:11Speaker 2: I don't know where his decline came from. You're talking
- 31:14Speaker 2: about an all star gold glover and they brought Higgy
- 31:17Speaker 2: in and Kyle Goshioka ended up getting a lot more
- 31:21Speaker 2: time than him, I mean, and it's really I feel
- 31:26Speaker 2: like it's like the Eli Manning theory, Like Eli looks
- 31:29Speaker 2: like he's like, oh, he's not even into it, and
- 31:31Speaker 2: then he wins two World Series. Jonah, Him's like body
- 31:34Speaker 2: language has always been the same, very calm, very controlled,
- 31:38Speaker 2: and when he was swinging it from both sides of
- 31:40Speaker 2: the plate, that was a guy. And there's been kind
- 31:43Speaker 2: of a steep decline really the last like season and
- 31:46Speaker 2: a half season three quarters for him. So six million,
- 31:49Speaker 2: they feel like it's too much, but he's a big
- 31:52Speaker 2: league catcher. He'll he'll latch you on somewhere.
- 31:56Speaker 1: I'll give you a couple other names. I think it's
- 31:58Speaker 1: almost a lock that the Royals won't hold on to
- 32:01Speaker 1: Jonathan India just because he's probably going to make seven
- 32:03Speaker 1: eight million dollars. So now we can say that trade
- 32:07Speaker 1: was a win for the Reds to get yourself a starter,
- 32:10Speaker 1: you know, a mid to mid range to back end
- 32:12Speaker 1: starter in Brady Singer. Toy eat up innings and pitched
- 32:15Speaker 1: decently in Cincinnati, India just didn't work out for the team.
- 32:19Speaker 1: Was sub one hundred, was at eighty nine ops plus
- 32:24Speaker 1: this year. You know, the defense and base running is
- 32:27Speaker 1: not stand out there, so you just had a pretty
- 32:30Speaker 1: rough year. And Kansas City is not going to keep
- 32:32Speaker 1: a player at that number.
- 32:34Speaker 3: And I see these guys, these older guys. Man, it
- 32:36Speaker 3: gets harder and harder as you're getting older.
- 32:38Speaker 1: Crazy, Yeah, how old do you think he is? Twenty
- 32:42Speaker 1: twenty nine? In a couple of weeks, I'd.
- 32:45Speaker 3: Say older guys. I mean, I guess now it's older.
- 32:47Speaker 1: But happens fast, man, it happens fast.
- 32:51Speaker 2: Another one. You get from Sinceni to KC two, that's
- 32:55Speaker 2: a tough stadium. And India is about grinding it out.
- 32:59Speaker 2: As soon as he didn't do well and the team
- 33:01Speaker 2: was kind of not as good, and you know he
- 33:03Speaker 2: started losing some playing time and consistent at bats.
- 33:07Speaker 1: One more name and this place to what you guys
- 33:09Speaker 1: were talking about with holding on to everybody. But Ryan
- 33:12Speaker 1: Mountcastle will probably get cut loose on the Orioles. He
- 33:16Speaker 1: was a point one wins above replacement player this year,
- 33:20Speaker 1: eighty three ops plus two eighty six on base. I mean,
- 33:24Speaker 1: I don't think they're paying him seven eight million bucks,
- 33:27Speaker 1: which is his approximate number. So he'll get cut. He'll
- 33:30Speaker 1: get picked up by another team for a few million bucks.
- 33:33Speaker 1: And then remember the one year he had to deal
- 33:35Speaker 1: with what they call it Mount Baltimore and then they
- 33:38Speaker 1: addressed it a little bit. Still. Yeah, Mountcastle didn't turn
- 33:41Speaker 1: into what they thought he would be.
- 33:44Speaker 4: I remember, I have much time. Yeah, the guy there
- 33:47Speaker 4: was a card show going on. The guy flipped over,
- 33:49Speaker 4: he had the orioles flipped over like a one on
- 33:51Speaker 4: one signed Mountcastle, and somebody told him I'd bought it
- 33:54Speaker 4: off you for twenty thousand right now, and the guy said, no,
- 33:57Speaker 4: so what Hopefully I'm not I'm not going down that road.
- 34:01Speaker 4: But yeah, we'll see. Hey, listen, it's his for his collection.
- 34:04Speaker 4: But that was when he was he was mashing right,
- 34:07Speaker 4: and he was a young buck coming up.
- 34:09Speaker 1: There was probably a Bowman chrome or something like that.
- 34:12Speaker 4: It was a nasty looking car, meaning good it was
- 34:14Speaker 4: a really good looking car.
- 34:15Speaker 1: Damn. Hey, things change quickly. So we'll go over some
- 34:18Speaker 1: of that stuff tomorrow. Good show tomorrow. By the way,
- 34:21Speaker 1: for a Friday, we got Ken Rosenthal, Grayson Rodriguez just
- 34:25Speaker 1: traded over to the Angels and Andrew Marshand, who will
- 34:28Speaker 1: join us to talk about all of the MLB content
- 34:31Speaker 1: deals that were just signed and sealed. See you then,
