- 1:31Speaker 8: Welcome to the Writer's Roundtable with Rusty Burson, Robert Cessna,
- 1:35Speaker 8: and your host, Chip Howard. The Writer's Roundtable is brought
- 1:39Speaker 8: to you by Intec and First Financial Bank.
- 1:44Speaker 9: Great to have you with us on a Monday with
- 1:47Speaker 9: Rusty and Cease. And we're just all giddy about the
- 1:52Speaker 9: news that a Waffle House is coming to Bryan.
- 1:55Speaker 3: If you weren't with us in the first hour.
- 1:57Speaker 9: Brian Bayer, Bobby Gutierrez, uh, made that announcement and, um, no,
- 2:03Speaker 9: no timetable. There's stuff to be done obviously. So it
- 2:06Speaker 9: won't be tomorrow, but I asked if I could get
- 2:09Speaker 9: my order in already, but I don't think they're quite
- 2:12Speaker 9: taking orders yet.
- 2:13Speaker 10: So Chip, you know, I've been serving in this Kairos
- 2:15Speaker 10: prison ministry for many years. One year there was this
- 2:19Speaker 10: little guy, he took a locking to me and, uh,
- 2:22Speaker 10: He had been a really bad man at one point
- 2:25Speaker 10: in his life. He had a swastika tattoo on his face,
- 2:28Speaker 10: and he was in this walker, tattooed all up. Again,
- 2:32Speaker 10: he took a liking to me, and he accepted Christ
- 2:34Speaker 10: at the end of the walk, which is, thank God
- 2:36Speaker 10: he did, because he died fairly shortly after that. But
- 2:39Speaker 10: he spent most of our free time, he'd come over
- 2:41Speaker 10: and he'd give me elaborate details on if I was
- 2:44Speaker 10: going to rob something, the Waffle House is the place
- 2:47Speaker 10: to go. And I finally told him, I was like, man,
- 2:51Speaker 10: we don't even have a Waffle House in Bryan County.
- 2:54Speaker 4: So immediately when I heard that news, I've got a
- 2:57Speaker 4: backup plan if things go bad.
- 2:59Speaker 9: Wow.
- 3:00Speaker 7: Why Waffle House though?
- 3:01Speaker 4: So we know who to come after.
- 3:03Speaker 10: There's usually one person in the back, and they keep
- 3:06Speaker 10: a set. Oh, he went into great detail about all this.
- 3:09Speaker 7: They've changed security since he's been in prison.
- 3:13Speaker 9: So you need to be part of the new Waffle
- 3:16Speaker 9: House security team.
- 3:17Speaker 4: Design team. Design.
- 3:18Speaker 7: Yes, I do.
- 3:19Speaker 3: You definitely need to throw that to them.
- 3:23Speaker 10: Matter of fact, I texted some of those guys on
- 3:25Speaker 10: the prison ministry that I serve with, and they were
- 3:27Speaker 10: all going, Okay, well, hopefully you keep that job at Mirabai.
- 3:35Speaker 4: That's awesome. Yeah, I thought you'd enjoy that.
- 3:40Speaker 9: I could use a waffle right now, as a matter
- 3:42Speaker 9: of fact. So it's good to be that time of day.
- 3:44Speaker 4: They have some of the best hash browns you can get.
- 3:48Speaker 4: I love the hash browns. Smothered, covered.
- 3:50Speaker 3: I do love the hash browns.
- 3:52Speaker 7: It's the way to start the show.
- 3:53Speaker 11: It is.
- 3:54Speaker 7: Aggies could have used a Waffle House Saturday.
- 3:57Speaker 3: Maybe that was the problem.
- 3:58Speaker 9: They should have pregame at the Waffle House.
- 4:02Speaker 7: Don't use that stuff that their nutrition says. So I've
- 4:05Speaker 7: been thinking about this.
- 4:06Speaker 9: I've got a question for both of you guys.
- 4:08Speaker 3: So when the season started, you looked at, oh, I've got.
- 4:13Speaker 4: To go to Alabama.
- 4:15Speaker 9: Didn't know what the team was going to be like.
- 4:17Speaker 9: Thought they were going to be good. If you predicted
- 4:20Speaker 9: 10-2 or whatever.
- 4:21Speaker 3: It's like, well, one of those losses is going to
- 4:23Speaker 3: be in Alabama. They're not going to win in Alabama.
- 4:26Speaker 9: So now people seem furious that they lost at Alabama. Now,
- 4:35Speaker 9: it's like, did you expect, even now, when you're not
- 4:40Speaker 9: doing real well, did you expect to.
- 4:44Speaker 4: Go to Alabama and win?
- 4:46Speaker 9: I mean, they played, I thought for two quarters especially,
- 4:51Speaker 9: they played very well.
- 4:53Speaker 4: You know, I'll jump on this first, Cease.
- 4:55Speaker 11: Sure.
- 4:56Speaker 10: At the beginning of the year, I would have said, no,
- 4:58Speaker 10: you can't win at Alabama. You're not going to win
- 5:00Speaker 10: that game. But the reality is, Alabama's not that good.
- 5:03Speaker 4: Fair. That's fair.
- 5:05Speaker 10: And Alabama, I kept watching them going, and them can
- 5:10Speaker 10: easily win this game.
- 5:10Speaker 3: They can win this game.
- 5:12Speaker 10: Yeah. And that was my take, and that's what probably
- 5:14Speaker 10: the disappointment is, is when you watch Alabama, they're like,
- 5:18Speaker 10: this is not Nick Saban's Alabama.
- 5:20Speaker 3: That's correct. You're right.
- 5:22Speaker 4: But on the other hand.
- 5:24Speaker 10: I really, you know, I said last week, I thought,
- 5:26Speaker 10: you know, 14 points is a lot. My prediction is
- 5:29Speaker 10: A & M covers that. They lose the game, but
- 5:31Speaker 10: they don't get blown out.
- 5:33Speaker 4: And so it was about what I expected.
- 5:36Speaker 10: And so I turned the TV channel, and I didn't
- 5:39Speaker 10: think about that game for another second all weekend long.
- 5:42Speaker 10: Because here's the deal is that I've come to expect
- 5:45Speaker 10: this from A & M. You know, in the last
- 5:47Speaker 10: three decades, I can count four really good seasons.
- 5:49Speaker 12: 98.
- 5:50Speaker 4: 2012, 2020, and 2025.
- 5:52Speaker 10: I mean, we're talking about really exceptional seasons.
- 5:56Speaker 4: Those are it.
- 5:57Speaker 10: The norm is to be underachieving and to be disappointed.
- 6:01Speaker 10: So I'm like, I guess I'm the picture of apathy
- 6:04Speaker 10: right now, but it just didn't bother me.
- 6:06Speaker 4: I don't care. It's like, that's a bad situation.
- 6:10Speaker 7: Of course, Alabama was one of my losses for A
- 6:13Speaker 7: & M going into the season. Watch the Alabama-Georgia game.
- 6:18Speaker 7: in Missouri the way they're doing, I go, man, that's
- 6:20Speaker 7: two pretty good teams. Yes. But I go, you know,
- 6:24Speaker 7: they've got to go to Tennessee. Then I watch Alabama
- 6:26Speaker 7: against Tennessee, not nearly as good.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Yep.
- 6:30Speaker 7: And so I say Alabama's still going to win this game. But,
- 6:34Speaker 7: you know, it wouldn't surprise me if it was close
- 6:36Speaker 7: just because when I saw Alabama three tough games in
- 6:39Speaker 7: a row in the SEC.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Yep.
- 6:41Speaker 7: So when I get to the game and you get
- 6:44Speaker 7: in the press box and you find out, you know,
- 6:46Speaker 7: Alabama's already missing like three or four starters. And any
- 6:49Speaker 7: time anymore at old NIL, when you are missing starters,
- 6:53Speaker 7: and we're talking about their best secondary person and their
- 6:57Speaker 7: best receiver. Then as the game unfolds in the first half,
- 7:01Speaker 7: they lose three more starters.
- 7:02Speaker 4: Targeting was big, I thought.
- 7:04Speaker 7: They get their second best player in the secondary out.
- 7:08Speaker 7: They get a lineman out. They get another defensive. They're
- 7:11Speaker 7: running their third defensive tackle. And as the game unfolded,
- 7:15Speaker 7: I go, A & M can win this game. Matter
- 7:17Speaker 7: of fact, I think A & M right now is
- 7:19Speaker 7: the healthiest team coming off the Citadel. I said to myself,
- 7:23Speaker 7: A & M is going to win that game. Then
- 7:26Speaker 7: fourth and inches, game over. And it's just.
- 7:30Speaker 3: That was the play.
- 7:31Speaker 7: You talk about fragile because I said... It is. I
- 7:33Speaker 7: watch these fans in Alabama. I go, Alabama is one
- 7:36Speaker 7: haymaker away from... They're out of this game. Because their fans...
- 7:40Speaker 7: They're not used to seeing a team fixing to lose
- 7:42Speaker 7: their third game.
- 7:43Speaker 9: Yes.
- 7:43Speaker 13: It doesn't look good. The fans have shown it. Missed
- 7:47Speaker 13: field goal. He never missed field goal. He'd been perfect 12-for-12.
- 7:51Speaker 13: And you go, they're going to lose this game. And
- 7:53Speaker 13: A & M, I gave them all the credit. They
- 7:56Speaker 13: come back from two turnovers.
- 7:58Speaker 4: They're leading.
- 7:59Speaker 7: They've had the ball 10 more minutes than Alabama. Alabama
- 8:03Speaker 7: is on the ropes.
- 8:04Speaker 14: Yep. And, you know.
- 8:07Speaker 7: To me, it goes back to quickly. I watched the
- 8:09Speaker 7: game ago. A & M' s gone 4-1.
- 8:11Speaker 10: Well, and the early thing is that they responded on
- 8:14Speaker 10: the road. They fall behind 7-0 to pick 6. But
- 8:17Speaker 10: then they come back and they're up 14-10, and you're like, oh, okay, well,
- 8:21Speaker 10: that's the first time on the road this team has
- 8:25Speaker 10: responded a long time.
- 8:26Speaker 7: Scored a touchdown.
- 8:27Speaker 4: Yeah. Well, and so, okay, then Marcel started to play
- 8:30Speaker 4: pretty well.
- 8:31Speaker 14: Yes.
- 8:31Speaker 4: I don't understand.
- 8:33Speaker 10: I mean, obviously there's some confusion going on because I
- 8:35Speaker 10: listened to the press conference, too. Mike Sherman says we're
- 8:38Speaker 10: not snapping the ball.
- 8:39Speaker 7: Mike Elko.
- 8:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:41Speaker 4: Mike Elko.
- 8:41Speaker 7: Mike Sherman said it, too.
- 8:42Speaker 4: Yeah. Mike Yoko says, yeah, we weren't snapping the ball.
- 8:47Speaker 4: And then the quarterback says, yeah, well, we were.
- 8:50Speaker 7: He said miscommunication.
- 8:51Speaker 3: He didn't say that they were snapping.
- 8:53Speaker 4: He said miscommunication.
- 8:54Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah.
- 8:54Speaker 3: He did not say that.
- 8:56Speaker 4: I misunderstood that.
- 8:57Speaker 7: And then what makes this bad, in my opinion, is
- 9:00Speaker 7: I go– they're going to pick up just a few inches.
- 9:04Speaker 7: They get this ball, they're going to go down and
- 9:06Speaker 7: get maybe another field goal. I mean, they got the momentum,
- 9:09Speaker 7: and then all of a sudden.
- 9:10Speaker 9: But I would not have, I wouldn't have gone for
- 9:14Speaker 9: that at their own 45 seats, personally.
- 9:17Speaker 7: I understand, but I thought they were. And then once
- 9:20Speaker 7: I saw Reed look to the sidelines, I go, they're
- 9:22Speaker 7: not going to go for it. Which I didn't think
- 9:25Speaker 7: was a bad call.
- 9:26Speaker 4: No, I didn't either.
- 9:26Speaker 7: But what happened was, then they get, they tap the water,
- 9:30Speaker 7: not supposed to. And then I thought, Olin asked a
- 9:33Speaker 7: great question in the postgame. Did you think about taking
- 9:35Speaker 7: a timeout? Because as soon as I saw Reed look
- 9:37Speaker 7: to the side, I go, they need to take a timeout.
- 9:40Speaker 7: Because the last thing you want to do is give
- 9:42Speaker 7: up 45 yards or at least 25 yards.
- 9:44Speaker 3: I thought that was part of the deception, personally.
- 9:47Speaker 9: When he comes out from under center and looks at that,
- 9:50Speaker 9: you know, at that point, I'm going, they're.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Not snapping it.
- 9:53Speaker 4: Right.
- 9:54Speaker 3: They're just trying to draw them offside.
- 9:56Speaker 7: That's what I did, too, but then they snapped it.
- 9:57Speaker 3: And then the center snapped it, of course.
- 10:00Speaker 4: And you're right.
- 10:00Speaker 3: That was the ball game.
- 10:02Speaker 9: And it's not just, by the way, I want to say, yes,
- 10:06Speaker 9: they're fragile. But it's not just A & M. I've
- 10:09Speaker 9: watched lots of football all day long. You can't afford
- 10:14Speaker 9: to make that mistake.
- 10:16Speaker 3: At that point.
- 10:17Speaker 4: And I don't care what team you watch. Any game.
- 10:19Speaker 9: You can't do it. And they had overcome a pick six.
- 10:24Speaker 9: I'm going, well, you very seldom do that, especially as
- 10:28Speaker 9: you mentioned, Rusty, on the road.
- 10:29Speaker 12: Right.
- 10:30Speaker 3: When you're the 14-point underdog, they overcame that.
- 10:33Speaker 4: And I'm going, hey. They overcame two turnovers in the
- 10:36Speaker 4: first half.
- 10:37Speaker 3: I'm saying, hey, these guys are playing pretty good football.
- 10:40Speaker 4: Yeah, they do. The defense is playing.
- 10:42Speaker 9: Marcel looked great from that point on to the end
- 10:46Speaker 9: of the half. And then in the second half, you're going, hey,
- 10:49Speaker 9: what happened to the guy we just saw for a
- 10:51Speaker 9: quarter and a half?
- 10:52Speaker 10: Exactly.
- 10:52Speaker 9: Because now we're watching the guy we've watched most of
- 10:54Speaker 9: the year, right? He was great for that point.
- 10:59Speaker 3: But then he wasn't.
- 11:00Speaker 4: Yeah, the announcers were raving about him.
- 11:02Speaker 7: Rightfully so.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Rightfully so. He was making all the throws.
- 11:07Speaker 9: You know, it looked like they were calling the plays
- 11:10Speaker 9: that they needed to call. Offense is such a rhythm, right?
- 11:15Speaker 9: You're either in it or you're out it. And, man,
- 11:17Speaker 9: once they got that rhythm, you're going, hey.
- 11:20Speaker 4: Play call is a lot easier when your quarterback's playing well.
- 11:22Speaker 9: When your quarterback's playing well, you've got a lot more
- 11:26Speaker 9: plays at your disposal.
- 11:27Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 11:28Speaker 9: Right?
- 11:29Speaker 7: But that made that loss that much tougher because it
- 11:32Speaker 7: was there for the taking.
- 11:33Speaker 3: It was.
- 11:33Speaker 7: They win that. They're on the plane. They beat a
- 11:36Speaker 7: 13th-ranked team. They beat Alabama. They're 2-3 in conference play.
- 11:40Speaker 7: Everything looks good. Instead, they get 15 yards on nine
- 11:46Speaker 7: plays after that penalty. They get– Alabama gets 90 on
- 11:51Speaker 7: like nine. They're not stopped on anything. They go right
- 11:53Speaker 7: down twice and score. I mean, the game is over.
- 11:56Speaker 7: But Chip touched on it. It's just not A & M.
- 11:58Speaker 7: This is the ball we have right now.
- 12:01Speaker 10: Their quarterback made a big play late in the game,
- 12:03Speaker 10: and Marcel didn't. And, you know, that touchdown pass that Alabama.
- 12:08Speaker 4: Had, that was a beautiful pass.
- 12:09Speaker 3: Yeah, big time.
- 12:10Speaker 4: Beautiful catch.
- 12:11Speaker 5: Yep.
- 12:12Speaker 4: And that was the big play that they needed.
- 12:14Speaker 10: And A & M didn't come up with one in
- 12:16Speaker 10: the fourth quarter.
- 12:17Speaker 4: Or didn't come up with any good plays, really.
- 12:19Speaker 9: No.
- 12:20Speaker 7: And once again is people running open in the secondary.
- 12:25Speaker 7: Can't get pressure on the quarterback. Then the flip side.
- 12:28Speaker 7: When the game was on the line, they were getting
- 12:29Speaker 7: pressure on Reed sometimes with three players. And there was
- 12:33Speaker 7: no– you know, it's just a reoccurring problem.
- 12:35Speaker 4: You know, I thought there was times where A &
- 12:37Speaker 4: M did get pressure on the quarterback. I thought, you know,
- 12:40Speaker 4: for the most part.
- 12:40Speaker 7: And that stretch he talked about.
- 12:43Speaker 4: So it wasn't just offense playing well. I thought the defense.
- 12:46Speaker 7: Was– Oh, they did.
- 12:47Speaker 3: But that's part of it, isn't it?
- 12:48Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 12:49Speaker 9: Because when the defense goes, hey– Marcel's on. We've scored
- 12:53Speaker 9: a couple of touches. We've got the lead.
- 12:55Speaker 4: We've got a chance. We've got a chance.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Get the ball back.
- 12:56Speaker 7: Get the ball back.
- 12:57Speaker 4: Right?
- 12:58Speaker 9: And so all of that plays together, right? It all
- 13:02Speaker 9: plays together.
- 13:03Speaker 4: And so Saka in the backfield. How about that? Exactly.
- 13:06Speaker 7: He goes, take that, Rusty. Turn around and point it
- 13:09Speaker 7: towards you.
- 13:10Speaker 3: I saw that.
- 13:11Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 13:12Speaker 6: I mean.
- 13:12Speaker 7: They were making plays. They're the ones making the plays,
- 13:15Speaker 7: not Alabama.
- 13:17Speaker 4: And that's probably what has people so frustrated. Exactly.
- 13:21Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 13:21Speaker 7: Because they were– it was there.
- 13:22Speaker 4: Because Alabama was there for the taking.
- 13:24Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 13:25Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:25Speaker 7: And if you give them their third straight loss.
- 13:28Speaker 3: They're done.
- 13:28Speaker 7: Going into an open week, they're done. Yeah.
- 13:32Speaker 10: And, you know, it's kind of like the year where
- 13:34Speaker 10: Jimbo had the opportunity to beat Alabama, you know. And
- 13:37Speaker 10: it's like it comes down to that last play. And
- 13:39Speaker 10: that last play still sticks in my mind. It's like,
- 13:42Speaker 10: didn't you really give your receiver a chance?
- 13:44Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 13:45Speaker 7: If you can do plays 1 to 100, it's 101
- 13:48Speaker 7: on my list.
- 13:49Speaker 4: That's the worst play.
- 13:50Speaker 7: Horrible play call. I was like, you took a timeout
- 13:53Speaker 7: for that?
- 13:53Speaker 9: Right.
- 13:54Speaker 10: But it's so rare that you get an opportunity to
- 13:57Speaker 10: win at Alabama.
- 13:59Speaker 7: And he had Alabama on the ropes there. I mean,
- 14:02Speaker 7: Alabama's saying, we're going to lose this game. If they
- 14:04Speaker 7: call the right play, we're going to lose the game.
- 14:07Speaker 14: Yep.
- 14:09Speaker 7: And they didn't call the right play. And they didn't
- 14:11Speaker 7: call the right play again?
- 14:12Speaker 10: Who had Kentucky leading the conference on this stage?
- 14:15Speaker 3: Unbelievable, isn't it?
- 14:16Speaker 7: Yeah, I was laughing. They did the TV games for
- 14:19Speaker 7: two weeks. A big game, Kentucky and Tennessee.
- 14:21Speaker 9: So we were talking about this earlier today with some folks,
- 14:26Speaker 9: and I think we visited about this before. But with
- 14:30Speaker 9: the transfer portal, trying to get linemen together, right, that
- 14:35Speaker 9: have been together, It is so difficult.
- 14:38Speaker 3: Kentucky, and I need to look. I didn't look it up.
- 14:41Speaker 9: They must have a pretty good offensive line coach because
- 14:44Speaker 9: they went to Portal, too, to get offensive line.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Like most teams did, right? They got fourth, if I'm
- 14:48Speaker 3: not mistaken. And they're playing great.
- 14:50Speaker 7: Four out of five.
- 14:50Speaker 3: They're playing great together. You know, you look here, not
- 14:54Speaker 3: so much. You look at Austin, not so much.
- 14:57Speaker 4: And they both have good.
- 14:59Speaker 9: They have enough money to go get linemen, right? So
- 15:01Speaker 9: that's not the issue. The issue is they missed either A.
- 15:06Speaker 9: They missed on those guys that they thought were good.
- 15:09Speaker 9: Or B, they're not being developed properly. Or maybe it's
- 15:14Speaker 9: a combination of both.
- 15:15Speaker 7: Well, while hopping around, Aranda got fired, and I looked
- 15:18Speaker 7: at a comment. He said, gone in the season, they
- 15:20Speaker 7: put all their money into linemen. They needed linemen. And
- 15:23Speaker 7: I agree. Baylor's not on the level of the SEC,
- 15:26Speaker 7: but let's say they bought the second tier. They got
- 15:29Speaker 7: the worst second tier.
- 15:30Speaker 3: Hey, they were 4-1 three weeks ago, and they're talking about, hey,
- 15:32Speaker 3: you're saving.
- 15:33Speaker 4: His job, and they're surprised.
- 15:34Speaker 10: They just hammered Arizona State, and they're 4-1, and then
- 15:37Speaker 10: they go back-to-back TCU and Kansas.
- 15:39Speaker 7: But they got the second tier. They couldn't run the
- 15:41Speaker 7: ball these last two games. And it gets back to
- 15:43Speaker 7: what you said. They thought those guys, they could run
- 15:46Speaker 7: the ball. They don't. He's run out of time.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:49Speaker 7: I mean, it's like buying a car anymore. You've got
- 15:54Speaker 7: to be careful what's under the hood. You better be careful.
- 15:56Speaker 7: You've got to get something that's going to go.
- 15:58Speaker 4: But I want to go back to that development, too, Cease.
- 16:01Speaker 16: Oh, yeah.
- 16:01Speaker 7: I'm with you.
- 16:04Speaker 9: That's, to me, that is more crucial than ever before
- 16:07Speaker 9: because you're not having linemen like we used to have,
- 16:11Speaker 9: red shirt, and then by the time they're fourth and
- 16:13Speaker 9: fifth year.
- 16:14Speaker 3: Guys, hey, this offensive line is great.
- 16:16Speaker 9: We've seen that here at A & M over the
- 16:18Speaker 9: last five or six years, right?
- 16:20Speaker 3: We've seen that happen. That doesn't happen anymore.
- 16:23Speaker 9: So you've got to throw all of these guys in
- 16:26Speaker 9: a pot, and you've got to develop them like today.
- 16:29Speaker 3: You don't have until next year.
- 16:31Speaker 10: Like you said, that 2020 season was so great. The
- 16:34Speaker 10: 2012 season was so great. The common denominator was those offensive.
- 16:38Speaker 3: Lines were fantastic.
- 16:39Speaker 10: Kellen Mond looked really good that last year behind that
- 16:42Speaker 10: offensive line.
- 16:42Speaker 3: Because he wasn't running for his life.
- 16:44Speaker 4: And if you go back, Johnny Manziel, everybody knows Johnny Manziel.
- 16:47Speaker 4: Johnny Manziel could take a nap in the pocket sometimes. Yeah.
- 16:51Speaker 7: You're going to have to look around college football. It's
- 16:54Speaker 7: what offensive line coach can get five or six guys
- 16:59Speaker 7: and four of them coming in, whether it's January 1st
- 17:02Speaker 7: or whatever. And have them ready to go come September 1st.
- 17:05Speaker 7: That's the gelling you're going to have to have. Because
- 17:08Speaker 7: you're going to have to be ready to go. Because
- 17:10Speaker 7: like in the SEC.
- 17:12Speaker 3: With little experience, again, I'll get back to together.
- 17:16Speaker 4: Togetherness, yeah.
- 17:18Speaker 9: You can get them physically ready to play in September cease.
- 17:23Speaker 3: But you have, what, three? How many practices in the spring?
- 17:28Speaker 9: Yeah. and a couple of scrimmages, and you think they're
- 17:31Speaker 9: going to be ready to play, you know, an SEC
- 17:33Speaker 9: opponent by the second week of September?
- 17:35Speaker 4: Well, it's also, Chip, you can't miss out on the
- 17:38Speaker 4: talent evaluation. You cannot miss.
- 17:39Speaker 7: There you go.
- 17:40Speaker 3: You cannot miss.
- 17:41Speaker 10: I mean, because if you miss out on it, because
- 17:43Speaker 10: obviously it looks like Elko did miss out.
- 17:46Speaker 3: And we've said this, right?
- 17:48Speaker 9: He's swung and missed at a few.
- 17:50Speaker 10: I'll be the first to admit I was excited because
- 17:52Speaker 10: all of them are coming from SEC schools.
- 17:54Speaker 3: Correct.
- 17:54Speaker 10: But, you know, I've been disappointed with how they actually–
- 17:58Speaker 10: produced right yes.
- 17:59Speaker 7: Well like you said like i do when they when
- 18:01Speaker 7: when the kentucky came here how good their line was
- 18:04Speaker 7: oh it was great they whipped a and m and
- 18:06Speaker 7: it's been continued both sides yeah exactly and it's you
- 18:08Speaker 7: look it's continued yes it has.
- 18:10Speaker 3: Continued they've they've continued to whip.
- 18:13Speaker 7: People and they've won a lot of games by one
- 18:16Speaker 7: score and that gets back to coaching it does everything
- 18:21Speaker 7: and Chip says it all. That line is getting finer
- 18:25Speaker 7: and finer. Here's the thing.
- 18:26Speaker 4: About Kentucky, what they did.
- 18:27Speaker 10: They came in here to Kyle Field, and they had
- 18:30Speaker 10: a monumental win here. But the really impressive thing is
- 18:34Speaker 10: they've built on it.
- 18:36Speaker 4: Had they just beaten A & M and then failed
- 18:39Speaker 4: to win... Turned into Kentucky.
- 18:40Speaker 7: It could have still been their good season.
- 18:41Speaker 4: They hammered South Carolina at South Carolina. South Carolina's proven
- 18:45Speaker 4: to be a pretty good team. They beat LSU.
- 18:47Speaker 10: LSU can look as good as anybody in the country
- 18:50Speaker 10: like they did last weekend.
- 18:51Speaker 4: Yes, they can.
- 18:51Speaker 3: They won at.
- 18:52Speaker 4: Oklahoma, and Oklahoma's beating Texas. We're talking about parity. They
- 18:56Speaker 4: take care of business against Vanderbilt.
- 18:58Speaker 7: Kentucky's impressive.
- 19:00Speaker 4: They are. And so now they've got an off week.
- 19:02Speaker 4: They've got two weeks to get ready for Tennessee.
- 19:04Speaker 7: Maybe they'll stick how good they are and they won't.
- 19:07Speaker 7: But you're right. You're right about it. How it's changing, Chip,
- 19:11Speaker 7: you say that line is so fine.
- 19:13Speaker 3: Oh, it's fine.
- 19:14Speaker 7: Because I think the A & M Alabama came down
- 19:16Speaker 7: to one play. I feel if they went for it
- 19:18Speaker 7: and picked it up, they win.
- 19:19Speaker 10: The hardest thing in this era of the NIL, I think,
- 19:21Speaker 10: is to continually go through.
- 19:24Speaker 4: We've seen it every week. There's upsets. And so the
- 19:27Speaker 4: fact that Kentucky has continued to build on it.
- 19:30Speaker 3: Be consistent.
- 19:31Speaker 4: It's pretty impressive.
- 19:32Speaker 3: See, even if they would have punted, they might have
- 19:34Speaker 3: won that game.
- 19:35Speaker 4: Oh, I agree.
- 19:35Speaker 1: I agree.
- 19:36Speaker 3: Because the defense had been playing well up to that point.
- 19:39Speaker 7: It was so deflating, and you gave Alabama a big
- 19:41Speaker 7: boost because they were on the ropes.
- 19:43Speaker 3: No doubt. They went right in.
- 19:44Speaker 7: It's like they went into the corner, and they dumped
- 19:47Speaker 7: this cold Gatorade on them. They go, man, I'm ready.
- 19:50Speaker 4: I'm ready.
- 19:50Speaker 7: And they went out and just jumped all over them.
- 19:52Speaker 3: They did.
- 19:53Speaker 7: It was four plays, 45 yards, touchdown. Five plays, 55 yards, touchdown.
- 19:59Speaker 4: It was like Alabama was trying to give this thing
- 20:01Speaker 4: an opportunity. They were. And A & M was like, no,
- 20:04Speaker 4: we don't want it.
- 20:06Speaker 7: And I listened to your deal about DeBoer was asked
- 20:08Speaker 7: what was different And he didn't really give the answer.
- 20:10Speaker 7: They didn't. Because they were a different team in the first,
- 20:14Speaker 7: second quarter to that last quarter because they look unbeatable.
- 20:18Speaker 7: You get the ball nine plays and score twice.
- 20:20Speaker 9: They have done that this year. They have been much
- 20:23Speaker 9: better for whatever reason in the second half. If you
- 20:26Speaker 9: could put Texas at the first half and Alabama in
- 20:29Speaker 9: the second half, then you might have a national championship contender, right?
- 20:33Speaker 4: Good call.
- 20:33Speaker 3: So who knows? I mean, who knows?
- 20:37Speaker 7: And Rusty said on this last week, they're going into
- 20:39Speaker 7: the bye right now. If you're A & M, your
- 20:41Speaker 7: best victory is Arizona State, which means you don't have
- 20:44Speaker 7: a best victory.
- 20:46Speaker 3: Signature win.
- 20:47Speaker 7: After eight games, they do not have a good win.
- 20:49Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 20:49Speaker 7: I mean, that's tough because we all want to succeed
- 20:53Speaker 7: in whatever we do. And now you get an extra
- 20:56Speaker 7: week to think about what you haven't done. It's not good.
- 20:59Speaker 4: And when you look at the.
- 21:00Speaker 10: Standings, A & M' s at the very bottom– ahead of
- 21:03Speaker 10: only Vanderbilt.
- 21:04Speaker 4: And that's kind of like eye-opening, right? It's just like
- 21:07Speaker 4: one and four.
- 21:07Speaker 7: Well, when you consider last year they were 11-0.
- 21:09Speaker 16: I know.
- 21:10Speaker 7: I mean, you know, but getting back to the NIL,
- 21:13Speaker 7: getting about everything, it's hard to say, okay, we're going
- 21:16Speaker 7: to build on this, whoever you are. You're only as
- 21:20Speaker 7: good as your last game. I mean, you've got to
- 21:21Speaker 7: get out there and get after it. And injuries in
- 21:24Speaker 7: this nine-game schedule, while Texas has lost their best offensive lineman,
- 21:27Speaker 7: I mean, they beat Ole Miss, but at what cost?
- 21:29Speaker 7: Is that going to cost them?
- 21:30Speaker 3: And the receiver, apparently, too.
- 21:32Speaker 7: Is that going to cost them any game down the road?
- 21:34Speaker 10: I know we'll get to it, but it's like week
- 21:36Speaker 10: to week is one thing, but like Chambliss looked like
- 21:39Speaker 10: he didn't.
- 21:40Speaker 3: He did not have a good game. No, he didn't.
- 21:42Speaker 9: He did not have the Trinidad-Chambriss game that we expect
- 21:47Speaker 9: from him.
- 21:47Speaker 7: The cockiness.
- 21:48Speaker 3: If he had, they would have won, obviously.
- 21:50Speaker 4: I agree.
- 21:51Speaker 3: He had a couple of flashes, but for the whole game,
- 21:56Speaker 3: he wasn't.
- 21:57Speaker 4: He wasn't a typical trainer.
- 21:59Speaker 3: But you know what?
- 22:00Speaker 9: From what I've read, and I don't know enough about it,
- 22:02Speaker 9: especially in the first half, what Muschamp did confused the
- 22:07Speaker 9: heck out of all of them in terms of bringing
- 22:09Speaker 9: people back, linebackers, only rushing a few. keeping him in
- 22:15Speaker 9: the pocket, not allowing him out of the pocket. And
- 22:19Speaker 9: they obviously were given a gift and got some momentum
- 22:22Speaker 9: in the second half. But that first half.
- 22:25Speaker 4: Muschamp knows his exes' nose. He does.
- 22:27Speaker 3: He's a defensive guru.
- 22:29Speaker 4: He figured out Marcel. He did.
- 22:31Speaker 3: I mean, he's really good at coaching defense.
- 22:34Speaker 4: There's no doubt.
- 22:35Speaker 3: If they were really good offensively, they would be number one.
- 22:40Speaker 4: You're right.
- 22:42Speaker 9: So while we're talking about it, I'm thinking this way, too.
- 22:44Speaker 9: I'm thinking this is a team that's beaten three top
- 22:47Speaker 9: ten teams this year.
- 22:49Speaker 4: Okay?
- 22:49Speaker 3: Three top ten teams.
- 22:51Speaker 9: They were ranked number one, and yet, and yet, they're
- 22:55Speaker 9: sitting there and you're going, I don't trust them.
- 22:57Speaker 3: I don't believe in them. That's coaching, is it not?
- 23:00Speaker 9: I mean, 14 penalties for how many ever yards, and
- 23:05Speaker 9: they can't cover an onside kick?
- 23:07Speaker 7: And you're at home?
- 23:09Speaker 3: I mean, that's... And you've.
- 23:11Speaker 9: Lost to a team that last week at home where
- 23:14Speaker 9: you've won, I don't know how many in a row
- 23:16Speaker 9: before then, that were 110th in defense and they run
- 23:19Speaker 9: all over you.
- 23:20Speaker 3: It's like, is that not coaching?
- 23:24Speaker 4: Yeah, and they lost to a pretty mediocre Oklahoma team.
- 23:27Speaker 3: Oh, a horrible Oklahoma team.
- 23:29Speaker 4: I'd say an average, yeah.
- 23:31Speaker 7: Great defense.
- 23:32Speaker 4: It's a rivalry game. I understand that. Yeah, yeah, it
- 23:33Speaker 4: was a rivalry game, but still.
- 23:35Speaker 3: Good gosh.
- 23:36Speaker 4: But how you do it.
- 23:37Speaker 14: Right.
- 23:38Speaker 3: That's, I mean, mistake after mistake after mistake.
- 23:42Speaker 4: Yeah, and again, I read the story in The Athletic today.
- 23:45Speaker 3: Oh, I hadn't seen that.
- 23:46Speaker 4: The lead was.
- 23:47Speaker 10: Texas could win the national championship. Texas could also not
- 23:51Speaker 10: even come close to making the college football playoff.
- 23:53Speaker 4: It's true.
- 23:54Speaker 9: You can say that about a lot of teams, though.
- 23:56Speaker 9: But you can say that about a lot of teams
- 23:58Speaker 9: right now. There's no doubt about it.
- 23:59Speaker 3: And you know what?
- 24:01Speaker 9: As a fan, you look around and you go, you
- 24:03Speaker 9: don't know what's going to happen. And I kind of
- 24:05Speaker 9: like that. I mean, because it's just like everything. So
- 24:08Speaker 9: I have a stat, 11 losses by top 10 teams
- 24:12Speaker 9: in the last three weeks. Never happened in a three-week
- 24:15Speaker 9: period in the Associated Press before.
- 24:17Speaker 10: You know, last week I was bragging that I was
- 24:18Speaker 10: above 500 in my poll against the spread.
- 24:22Speaker 14: Went 3-11.
- 24:22Speaker 7: You should have bragged on there.
- 24:24Speaker 3: Oh, my gosh.
- 24:26Speaker 7: And I'm sitting there watching.
- 24:27Speaker 3: I can't imagine picking a spread.
- 24:29Speaker 7: I'm watching the scores, and I keep saying to myself
- 24:32Speaker 7: on Saturday, I go, you know, UCLA is in the
- 24:35Speaker 7: Big Ten. I have a rough time.
- 24:36Speaker 3: I cannot.
- 24:38Speaker 7: And I go, they're unbeaten.
- 24:39Speaker 3: Cannot fathom that. I still can't.
- 24:41Speaker 7: I said that myself.
- 24:42Speaker 9: I'm still going Pac-12, USC, UCLA, Oregon, Washington. I'm still
- 24:47Speaker 9: going Pac-12.
- 24:48Speaker 4: I cannot.
- 24:50Speaker 10: Lou was talking about bowl projections today, and he said,
- 24:54Speaker 10: you know, Houston can face SMU.
- 24:55Speaker 4: I was like, no, no.
- 24:56Speaker 3: No, they can't face SMU.
- 24:57Speaker 4: They're the same conference.
- 24:59Speaker 3: No, they're not.
- 24:59Speaker 4: SMU is the ACC.
- 25:01Speaker 7: No, when I saw that, I go– Can UCLA make
- 25:04Speaker 7: the college football play? They were horrible last year. I
- 25:07Speaker 7: go like, they're unbeaten.
- 25:08Speaker 9: I guess this coach can pretty much, if he doesn't
- 25:11Speaker 9: want to stay at UCLA, go where he wants to.
- 25:13Speaker 4: It's just week to week. Who had Texas Tech losing
- 25:15Speaker 4: to Cincinnati? I mean, crazy.
- 25:17Speaker 3: That's nuts.
- 25:18Speaker 4: And not even a close game.
- 25:19Speaker 7: Okay, we all knew that Texas Tech was down a
- 25:22Speaker 7: little this year.
- 25:23Speaker 4: We did, right.
- 25:24Speaker 7: And you knew they were going to lose again. They
- 25:26Speaker 7: had been.
- 25:26Speaker 3: Walking on the tightrope, but Cincinnati?
- 25:29Speaker 7: I didn't know who to, but Cincinnati.
- 25:30Speaker 3: And they got punked. It wasn't like, you know, it
- 25:33Speaker 3: was a fluke. They got smoked.
- 25:35Speaker 10: It was the most expensive roster in the Big 12
- 25:37Speaker 10: versus the cheapest.
- 25:38Speaker 3: Hey, it even had Cody Campbell tweeting out, this is unacceptable.
- 25:42Speaker 4: Uh-oh, uh-oh.
- 25:44Speaker 14: Oh, no.
- 25:45Speaker 9: I mean, after the game, he's going, this is unacceptable.
- 25:48Speaker 9: I'm going, well, you're paying for it. I paid for this.
- 25:52Speaker 9: That was the point.
- 25:53Speaker 4: Wasn't it?
- 25:54Speaker 1: Yes, it was.
- 25:54Speaker 7: He's going, if I'm going to write these checks, you're
- 25:56Speaker 7: going to have to beat Cincinnati. I got to the
- 25:59Speaker 7: press box at Alabama. I'm looking up, and they're both teams.
- 26:02Speaker 7: One team in red, one team in white. And I'm watching,
- 26:04Speaker 7: and I go... Man, Tech's coming back in about five minutes.
- 26:06Speaker 7: I go, wait a minute, that's Cincinnati. They're just beating
- 26:09Speaker 7: the crap.
- 26:10Speaker 4: Out of Tech. They did.
- 26:11Speaker 7: And you go, really?
- 26:13Speaker 3: They did.
- 26:13Speaker 4: Hey, I do want it on record.
- 26:17Speaker 3: I did pick the Houston game, though. I did pick
- 26:19Speaker 3: Utah to win.
- 26:20Speaker 7: I picked, most people pick, Utah was a six-point pick.
- 26:22Speaker 4: Utah was a favorite.
- 26:23Speaker 9: I was kind of surprised. But I turn it on,
- 26:26Speaker 9: and it's like, this looks like the Big Ten. It's
- 26:29Speaker 9: three to nothing at the half or something like that.
- 26:32Speaker 9: I'm going, what is going on? Okay, we need a break.
- 26:36Speaker 7: And I watched enough of the Indiana game against Michigan.
- 26:39Speaker 7: That was like watching paint drop.
- 26:41Speaker 9: Do you know there were 22 straight incomplete passes in
- 26:44Speaker 9: that game?
- 26:45Speaker 4: Oh, my God.
- 26:45Speaker 3: That's hard to do.
- 26:46Speaker 4: That is really hard to do.
- 26:47Speaker 3: That's really hard to do.
- 26:49Speaker 4: Even for A & M. I mean, that's hard to do.
- 26:52Speaker 7: And A & M wasn't playing.
- 26:53Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 26:53Speaker 9: Well, I said when the year started, Josh Hoover, I
- 26:58Speaker 9: don't think he's going to replace– I don't think he's
- 27:03Speaker 9: going to replace that quarterback.
- 27:04Speaker 7: But you know what? They won.
- 27:06Speaker 4: They did.
- 27:07Speaker 7: And I laughed. It was their first win in 1967.
- 27:10Speaker 7: And I go, I was a freshman in high school.
- 27:14Speaker 4: It's horrible. I was about ready to say BYU's elite.
- 27:20Speaker 9: But didn't we talk about that after that huge emotional win,
- 27:24Speaker 9: having to cross the country and play there?
- 27:26Speaker 7: Your little listeners know that.
- 27:28Speaker 3: And play in the heat and the humidity.
- 27:31Speaker 7: It was a big 12 rivalry game.
- 27:35Speaker 3: Yeah, those two schools, they hate each other.
- 27:37Speaker 7: UCF and BYU go wild.
- 27:39Speaker 9: We're trying to keep Central Florida and BYU up from
- 27:42Speaker 9: killing each other.

- 32:18Speaker 9: Hey, welcome back. It is the Writer's Roundtable for a Monday.
- 32:21Speaker 9: It's overreaction Monday brought to you by Intech and First
- 32:25Speaker 9: Financial Bank. I don't say that I blame him necessarily cease,
- 32:32Speaker 9: but it.
- 32:33Speaker 3: Was almost comical when we get that text.
- 32:36Speaker 9: This morning going, there will be no availability for A
- 32:40Speaker 9: & M football this week.
- 32:42Speaker 7: Well, here's the deal on that. We talked out on
- 32:45Speaker 7: a length driving back from good old Alabama.
- 32:49Speaker 3: How was that drive?
- 32:50Speaker 7: Oh, I like the drive because we drive to Meridian,
- 32:53Speaker 7: so you take a couple hours off. Got a couple
- 32:56Speaker 7: good eating places along the way, and then you get
- 32:59Speaker 7: up and go two hours.
- 33:00Speaker 3: See, snow's where the good eating places are.
- 33:01Speaker 14: Oh, yeah.
- 33:02Speaker 17: Of course.
- 33:03Speaker 7: Waffle House? No, no. Rusty's in Vicksburg.
- 33:07Speaker 4: I like Rusty's.
- 33:08Speaker 7: That's a good place.
- 33:09Speaker 6: Okay.
- 33:09Speaker 7: We had the Walnut restaurant on the way back.
- 33:11Speaker 3: Okay.
- 33:13Speaker 7: Quick side, like, there's, like, there's four Aggies dressed up
- 33:16Speaker 7: when we go to, where's the barbecue place in Alabama.
- 33:21Speaker 7: But anyway, we're waiting in line there. So Alex goes
- 33:24Speaker 7: over and talks to these four guys. And then the
- 33:26Speaker 7: one guy comes over and his daughter went to school
- 33:30Speaker 7: with Cassie. One of the guys, they're 68, so they
- 33:33Speaker 7: took them to the Alabama game. So we see them
- 33:37Speaker 7: before the game. Next day, we're eating in Walnut Hills
- 33:40Speaker 7: in– In Shreveport, I mean, in Vicksburg, the guy comes
- 33:44Speaker 7: over and goes, you guys know where to.
- 33:45Speaker 9: Eat, don't you?
- 33:45Speaker 7: I go, so do you guys. So do you guys.
- 33:49Speaker 4: But your original.
- 33:51Speaker 7: Question, I got sidetracked. What was your original question?
- 33:53Speaker 3: I don't remember.
- 33:54Speaker 4: How to drive to Alabama.
- 33:55Speaker 3: The drive.
- 33:56Speaker 7: Yeah, it's okay.
- 33:57Speaker 4: The drive to Alabama is better than what?
- 34:00Speaker 7: Yeah, always better than coming home. No, we were talking about,
- 34:03Speaker 7: we asked that several times, about the no press conference.
- 34:05Speaker 12: Yes.
- 34:06Speaker 7: And I said, here's the deal is you go back
- 34:07Speaker 7: to past years. This is his third year. He did
- 34:11Speaker 7: have some kind of press conference. Last year it was
- 34:13Speaker 7: the coordinators, what have you. That being said is, would
- 34:18Speaker 7: I hope that he show up as coordinators? Yes. B,
- 34:22Speaker 7: what's going to be asked new? And, you know, Uganda
- 34:25Speaker 7: can beat a dead horse so much. And right now,
- 34:28Speaker 7: there's nothing positive to say around A & M football.
- 34:31Speaker 7: I hate to say it, but until they win a game...
- 34:34Speaker 7: and people are going to ask, are you going to
- 34:36Speaker 7: bench Marcel Reed? Are you going to bring in the backup?
- 34:39Speaker 7: Are you going to relieve Wiggins of his offensive coaching duties?
- 34:42Speaker 7: Are you going to change the defense? That's the questions
- 34:46Speaker 7: they have been asking, and that's the questions they would ask,
- 34:49Speaker 7: and only Elko knows the answer to those. He probably
- 34:53Speaker 7: wouldn't share them anyway if they're going to change starters
- 34:55Speaker 7: before South Carolina.
- 34:56Speaker 3: No doubt.
- 34:56Speaker 7: Change schemes or whatever. He's not going to tell the media.
- 34:59Speaker 3: No doubt.
- 34:59Speaker 7: And right now, you throw in the cesspool comment a
- 35:03Speaker 7: couple weeks ago.
- 35:04Speaker 10: You have to get lucky to have a really good
- 35:06Speaker 10: backup quarterback anymore.
- 35:08Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 35:08Speaker 3: Oh, no question.
- 35:10Speaker 4: And that's just the reality. You don't have this... Five-star
- 35:14Speaker 4: who's going to wait.
- 35:15Speaker 3: Waiting his turn.
- 35:16Speaker 7: Bear Bryant had three of those lined up. You don't
- 35:19Speaker 7: have those anymore.
- 35:20Speaker 4: No, it just didn't happen. If you don't see your
- 35:22Speaker 4: opportunity to play right away, you're going to go somewhere else.
- 35:24Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 35:25Speaker 4: And that's why a lot of these guys are on
- 35:26Speaker 4: their third or fourth school.
- 35:28Speaker 10: And so it's very rare that you see a program
- 35:33Speaker 10: that's going to, oh, the backup's really good.
- 35:35Speaker 4: And so the star gets hurt. And the next guy
- 35:37Speaker 4: comes in and, you know, plays really well.
- 35:39Speaker 7: I mean, we saw it.
- 35:41Speaker 10: It wasn't that long ago when Marcel came in for relief,
- 35:45Speaker 10: and he was really good.
- 35:46Speaker 4: And he took Connor's job.
- 35:49Speaker 9: Hey, Trinidad Chambliss, you know, took Austin's job.
- 35:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:54Speaker 7: You know, and it can happen. You touched on about
- 35:57Speaker 7: the cohesiveness of the offensive line. Here you've got a guy,
- 36:00Speaker 7: Reed started about 29 or 30 career games now. You
- 36:03Speaker 7: want to put in a guy that's had less than
- 36:05Speaker 7: 30 snaps. Odds are the guy with 30 queer starts
- 36:09Speaker 7: is a little bit better. But you're right. You never
- 36:12Speaker 7: know when you're going to catch lightning in a bottle.
- 36:13Speaker 7: And eventually, guess what? What has A & M only done?
- 36:16Speaker 7: They've lost. They've lost.
- 36:17Speaker 4: Well, I mean, if he had shown it in practice,
- 36:20Speaker 4: he'd be in there by now.
- 36:21Speaker 7: Correct.
- 36:22Speaker 4: I mean, that's reality.
- 36:24Speaker 7: The coaches are never going to put the worst players
- 36:27Speaker 7: out there.
- 36:27Speaker 3: I mean, he answered that post-game.
- 36:30Speaker 9: He said, if I'd have thought, you know, and, you know,
- 36:34Speaker 9: Brady was warming up and all of that. He said,
- 36:39Speaker 9: if I'd have thought that that gave.
- 36:41Speaker 3: Us the best chance to win.
- 36:42Speaker 9: I mean, some fans think, oh, you're paying them this
- 36:47Speaker 9: or you're doing that.
- 36:48Speaker 3: I'm going, no, no, the coach has to win.
- 36:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:51Speaker 3: And he knows that.
- 36:53Speaker 9: You don't have to remind any of these head coaches
- 36:57Speaker 9: that they're getting paid a lot of money to win.
- 37:00Speaker 9: And they're going to do everything in their power they think.
- 37:05Speaker 9: can win a football game. And if you think it's
- 37:08Speaker 9: any different from that, you're nuts. Because these guys are
- 37:12Speaker 9: paid to win now.
- 37:14Speaker 7: You want to say to some of these rich donors,
- 37:16Speaker 7: what did you do to get rich? You're very good
- 37:19Speaker 7: at it. I'm not going to tell you how to
- 37:20Speaker 7: run your oil wells. I'm not going to tell you
- 37:22Speaker 7: what interest rates you need to charge in your banks.
- 37:24Speaker 7: That's your field. And Elko's getting paid $ 10 million, $ 11
- 37:28Speaker 7: million because he knows how to coach football. And if
- 37:30Speaker 7: he doesn't get it done right, he won't be coaching
- 37:32Speaker 7: football here in three, five years, whatever.
- 37:35Speaker 10: I mean, the talent evaluation is going to be critical
- 37:38Speaker 10: this next year because.
- 37:39Speaker 4: In this era, you have hope that you can turn
- 37:41Speaker 4: it around right away. Quickly.
- 37:43Speaker 10: Yeah, but you may have to go spend more money on.
- 37:46Speaker 4: A quarterback than you have before.
- 37:49Speaker 10: I mean, $ 3 million is probably not going to get
- 37:51Speaker 10: the quarterback that you really want.
- 37:54Speaker 3: But I was talking to Dusty about this today.
- 37:57Speaker 9: How many great quarterbacks, and that may be part of
- 38:03Speaker 9: the issue right now with the chaos in college football.
- 38:06Speaker 9: When you start talking and you start naming the great
- 38:10Speaker 9: quarterbacks until Saturday night.
- 38:13Speaker 3: Like I said, Trinidad had a bad game. If he'd
- 38:16Speaker 3: have had his.
- 38:17Speaker 9: Normal game that I'm used to watching him play, Ole
- 38:19Speaker 9: Miss would have won that game.
- 38:21Speaker 3: But he wasn't very good. So when you.
- 38:23Speaker 9: Start looking at guys and you go, oh, this guy's
- 38:26Speaker 9: just a sophomore. We're going to go spend $ 5 million
- 38:29Speaker 9: on him. Who is that right now?
- 38:33Speaker 4: You know what?
- 38:33Speaker 10: Based on what his team has done with him and
- 38:36Speaker 10: without him, I'd say Kamario Taylor.
- 38:39Speaker 3: Yes. He'll be paid a lot of money.
- 38:43Speaker 7: You hit the exception. He's number one.
- 38:44Speaker 3: He'll be paid a lot of money.
- 38:45Speaker 7: And he's going to get the most money.
- 38:46Speaker 9: If he wants to leave. We've talked about this. He's
- 38:49Speaker 9: a Mississippi guy.
- 38:51Speaker 3: He may not want to leave.
- 38:52Speaker 7: He could get $ 6 or $ 7 million from an Oregon,
- 38:55Speaker 7: Ohio State, A & M, Texas.
- 38:56Speaker 4: You can money whip him to leave Mississippi. You can
- 38:59Speaker 4: tell him, hey, listen, you can always go back to Mississippi.
- 39:02Speaker 7: You hit the number one. That's the guy.
- 39:06Speaker 9: I mean, Stockton's upper class, Gunner Stockton, he's not going anywhere,
- 39:10Speaker 9: you don't think. Julian Sane is hurt. I don't think
- 39:13Speaker 9: he's going anywhere. Minset, Miami, they just brought in. I
- 39:17Speaker 9: don't think he's going anywhere. They're number one in the country, okay?
- 39:21Speaker 4: C.J.
- 39:21Speaker 9: Carr at Notre Dame is a Heisman candidate. I mean,
- 39:25Speaker 9: but he's an upper class guy, right?
- 39:28Speaker 7: Yeah, and I wouldn't pay $ 6 million for him, would I?
- 39:30Speaker 7: seen of him.
- 39:32Speaker 9: I mean, you start going down the list of some
- 39:34Speaker 9: of these guys. They caught lightning in a bottle with Minchie,
- 39:37Speaker 9: the Notre Dame quarterback. We talked about Kentucky. He has
- 39:40Speaker 9: played really, really well. He's not spectacular, but he's not
- 39:44Speaker 9: getting a beat either. He's playing good football.
- 39:47Speaker 4: Here's what the deal is. What if.
- 39:49Speaker 7: All programs, we've seen this now in basketball, the salaries
- 39:53Speaker 7: were announced last week, whatever. Let's say you're going to
- 39:56Speaker 7: pay $ 45 million if you're A & M in Texas.
- 39:58Speaker 7: You put $ 7 million into a quarterback, and he blows
- 40:02Speaker 7: his knee out in a spring practice. I mean, it
- 40:05Speaker 7: could happen. And suddenly, where is your team? I mean,
- 40:08Speaker 7: I get it. You've got to go get the guy.
- 40:11Speaker 9: Hey, there's talk, Cease, that Arch may not be coming
- 40:14Speaker 9: back next year. He's ruined his NFL draft as far
- 40:18Speaker 9: as I know this year. So who's going to pay
- 40:21Speaker 9: big money for Arch Manning?
- 40:23Speaker 4: That's a good question.
- 40:24Speaker 9: I mean, but it may be, and we've talked about
- 40:27Speaker 9: the ego of these coaches before. They all have egos,
- 40:31Speaker 9: almost all of them. And they're going, well, Sark couldn't
- 40:35Speaker 9: get anything out of Arch, but I can because I
- 40:38Speaker 9: see the possibilities. He couldn't do it, but I can
- 40:42Speaker 9: do it.
- 40:42Speaker 4: And conversely, if Sark cannot develop a Manning.
- 40:47Speaker 3: He ain't going to the NFL.
- 40:49Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 40:49Speaker 3: He's not going to the NFL. I'm talking about Sark.
- 40:52Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 40:53Speaker 7: That's what I'm talking about. Here also we need to
- 40:55Speaker 7: talk about, I want to look around. at offensive coordinators
- 40:58Speaker 7: and defensive coordinators.
- 40:59Speaker 12: Yes.
- 41:00Speaker 7: If I'm Mike Elko, I think a bigger decision, does
- 41:03Speaker 7: he bring back Holman Wiggins? Does he bring back Hemp Hill?
- 41:08Speaker 7: Or does he go out and get O.C.? Just give
- 41:12Speaker 7: him and let him bring in the quarterback. I'm not
- 41:15Speaker 7: saying he should or shouldn't, but those are decisions.
- 41:17Speaker 4: He has to make.
- 41:18Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, that's got to be a big decision.
- 41:19Speaker 10: Unless the season dramatically turns, I think you've got to
- 41:22Speaker 10: go hire a new offense coordinator.
- 41:23Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 41:24Speaker 4: I mean, just to appease the masses, if nothing else, right?
- 41:27Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 41:27Speaker 4: I mean, he's not leaving.
- 41:29Speaker 7: We've seen other coaches do that. You've got to make
- 41:32Speaker 7: some changes.
- 41:33Speaker 10: Elko's not going anywhere. True. He may have to change.
- 41:38Speaker 9: Nor, in my opinion, should he. No, I don't think
- 41:41Speaker 9: you're saying that, right? I'm not saying that at all.
- 41:44Speaker 3: I think he's proven he can coach.
- 41:46Speaker 7: He did great in the portal two years. So he's
- 41:48Speaker 7: two out of three.
- 41:49Speaker 10: Going into the season, the one thing I would say
- 41:51Speaker 10: is he has proven he can evaluate the portal.
- 41:54Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah.
- 41:55Speaker 4: And this year he missed on some guys that we
- 41:57Speaker 4: thought were going to be really good.
- 41:59Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 41:59Speaker 4: I mean, the receiver from Alabama, I thought he was
- 42:01Speaker 4: going to be really good. He's been really disappointing. If
- 42:03Speaker 4: I was him.
- 42:05Speaker 7: Now, this is a question we kicked around in the
- 42:08Speaker 7: car coming back. What if Reed has digressed so much
- 42:13Speaker 7: that Holman Wiggins goes, I can't do nothing with this guy.
- 42:15Speaker 7: I mean, this guy, he just doesn't– Throw to the
- 42:19Speaker 7: guys that are open. He can't spot his second guy,
- 42:21Speaker 7: his third guy. We need a new quarterback. And once again,
- 42:25Speaker 7: only guy can answer that is Mike Elko.
- 42:27Speaker 12: Yes.
- 42:28Speaker 7: I mean, should he bring in a new offensive coordinator
- 42:31Speaker 7: or just bring in a new quarterback? And that's why
- 42:33Speaker 7: they're getting paid the big bucks. And we're not. We
- 42:35Speaker 7: just sit here and we're overreaction Monday.
- 42:38Speaker 4: I love it.
- 42:39Speaker 3: We're going to take a break. We're going to talk
- 42:42Speaker 3: a little bit of basketball.
- 42:44Speaker 4: All right.
- 42:44Speaker 3: I was at Moody Coliseum yesterday.
- 42:46Speaker 4: Oh, you were?
- 42:47Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 42:47Speaker 4: Awesome. I'll listen to that, Dan.
- 42:49Speaker 3: I wasn't there the whole game because I was already
- 42:51Speaker 3: up there.
- 42:52Speaker 14: Okay.
- 42:52Speaker 3: So I said, hey, I'm already up there, and we'll
- 42:54Speaker 3: talk about that when we come back.
- 42:56Speaker 9: Cowboys Report, brought to you by Zwernemann Flooring and the
- 42:59Speaker 9: Brazos Running Company.
- 43:02Speaker 18: Other flooring stores in the Brazos Valley promise a better

- 43:36Speaker 15: today's practice, as well as some practice windows being opened
- 43:40Speaker 15: ahead of their Week 6 matchup with the divisional rival
- 43:43Speaker 15: Philadelphia Eagles. As of today, Dallas has activated the 21-day
- 43:47Speaker 15: practice window for safety P.J.
- 43:48Speaker 10: Locke.
- 43:49Speaker 15: Locke, a former player at the University of Texas, has
- 43:52Speaker 15: missed the past four games with a torn plantar fasciitis.
- 43:55Speaker 15: He still has yet to be activated before the game,
- 43:57Speaker 15: but he was a limited participant in today's practice. Upgraded
- 44:01Speaker 15: from limited yesterday, corner Kobe Durant tackled Tyler Guyton. Outside
- 44:05Speaker 15: linebacker Von Miller and wide receiver George Pickens were all
- 44:07Speaker 15: full participants. Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones saying earlier
- 44:12Speaker 15: that he thinks Durant has a chance to make his
- 44:14Speaker 15: return for Monday night's game while linebacker DeMarvion Overshawn who

- 46:04Speaker 4: Help, I need somebody.
- 46:05Speaker 5: Help, not just anybody.
- 46:07Speaker 9: Help, you know I need somebody. That's our theme song
- 46:11Speaker 9: here on the Writer's Roundtable. Help, Rusty Burson, Robert Sessa
- 46:16Speaker 9: is brought to you by First Financial Bank and Intech
- 46:19Speaker 9: every Monday. We were talking, our conversations off the air
- 46:24Speaker 9: are always better. But we were talking about the fact
- 46:27Speaker 9: that in this day and age, you can fix things
- 46:29Speaker 9: in one round. You don't have to wait three years
- 46:33Speaker 9: anymore in a signing class the way things are set
- 46:37Speaker 9: up now. You can turn things around in a year.
- 46:40Speaker 7: Let's be honest, you bring in a Cassius Howell, your
- 46:42Speaker 7: defense could get fixed immediately. You're able to rush the quarterback.
- 46:45Speaker 7: You get interceptions. What if you get two Cassius Howells?
- 46:49Speaker 7: What do you do then? And what if you get
- 46:52Speaker 7: the next quarterback like Kentucky? Right, the next big thing.
- 46:55Speaker 7: He goes right in there and he wins every close game.
- 46:58Speaker 9: There has to be a little luck involved because, you know, Rusty,
- 47:02Speaker 9: you were saying how it's become like the NFL. As
- 47:06Speaker 9: analytical and as much as they study and as much
- 47:09Speaker 9: as they interview, they still cannot tell you if they're
- 47:14Speaker 9: getting a quarterback that can get them wins.
- 47:18Speaker 3: I still think that is.
- 47:20Speaker 9: Now, offensive line takes time, but a quarterback evaluation is, Man,
- 47:26Speaker 9: that is a flip of the coin. And it always
- 47:30Speaker 9: has been.
- 47:31Speaker 10: Well, that's what Ole Miss did so well when they
- 47:34Speaker 10: got Trinidad and Chambliss. And up until last week, he's
- 47:38Speaker 10: been looking really.
- 47:39Speaker 4: Good this year, too. He didn't look good against Texas.
- 47:42Speaker 4: He did not. I didn't like him.
- 47:43Speaker 3: Now, he's playing a pretty good defense, too.
- 47:45Speaker 12: No, you're right.
- 47:45Speaker 4: That's a great point.
- 47:47Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 47:47Speaker 10: I mean, because we just sat here and talked about
- 47:49Speaker 10: how good that defense is.
- 47:51Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 47:52Speaker 4: But, yeah, for the most part, you don't know if
- 47:55Speaker 4: you're going to get the quarterback. You don't know. And
- 47:58Speaker 4: it may not be from Alabama. It may be from
- 48:00Speaker 4: North Texas. Or it may be from some smaller school.
- 48:03Speaker 3: Or a junior college somewhere.
- 48:04Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 48:05Speaker 4: You don't even hear about the junior college.
- 48:07Speaker 3: You do not anymore, do you?
- 48:08Speaker 7: That's true. That's amazing.
- 48:09Speaker 4: You don't. I mean, it's almost like, you remember the
- 48:12Speaker 4: Juco transfers?
- 48:13Speaker 7: Yeah. Yeah, that was a big deal.
- 48:15Speaker 4: Yeah, Michael Bishop was a Juco.
- 48:16Speaker 7: Michael Bishop played out at Viking Stadium.
- 48:19Speaker 4: Yes.
- 48:19Speaker 10: And so you just never knew when you were going
- 48:22Speaker 10: to get lucky with a Juco. But now it's so
- 48:26Speaker 10: much easier now to go. And I saw the rankings,
- 48:30Speaker 10: the re-rankings. The Athletic does it every week, right?
- 48:33Speaker 14: Uh-huh.
- 48:33Speaker 4: And so they had A & M at 44. Uh-huh.
- 48:36Speaker 4: And they had– that's four spots above North Texas.
- 48:38Speaker 3: Okay.
- 48:39Speaker 4: And I was like, wow.
- 48:41Speaker 3: North Texas has a quarterback.
- 48:42Speaker 4: Yeah, they do.
- 48:43Speaker 8: You know?
- 48:43Speaker 4: And so, you know, and– Look.
- 48:46Speaker 9: What Oklahoma State's done with the North Texas quarterback and coach, right? Yeah.
- 48:50Speaker 9: They're in the top 25 this week. Mestermaker has been
- 48:53Speaker 9: one of the best quarterbacks of the season.
- 48:54Speaker 10: So I was watching the North Texas Navy game just
- 48:58Speaker 10: because I know somebody, Dylan Carnes, who played at College
- 49:01Speaker 10: Station High School.
- 49:02Speaker 4: I know the Carnes family. He returned a punt for
- 49:04Speaker 4: a touchdown.
- 49:05Speaker 9: Oh, cool.
- 49:05Speaker 4: Which was really cool. His mom and dad were there.
- 49:07Speaker 4: Very cool. But, yeah, North Texas, they look pretty good.
- 49:12Speaker 3: And Mestermaker. I mean, you knew he was good at
- 49:15Speaker 3: North Texas, but you're going, well, is that going to translate?
- 49:18Speaker 9: It's North Texas. Well at quarterback, yeah, my thing is
- 49:23Speaker 9: throwing and catching. That's in any level, right? I mean,
- 49:26Speaker 9: I don't care which level you're talking about. So you
- 49:31Speaker 9: get one of those guys, you're in the top 20 again.
- 49:35Speaker 10: Have you seen the Mendoza commercial for Taco Bell?
- 49:38Speaker 9: No, I haven't.
- 49:39Speaker 4: Yeah, he takes over. He's a manager.
- 49:41Speaker 3: By the way, how's he doing?
- 49:43Speaker 4: I haven't paid much attention.
- 49:45Speaker 3: What teams is he with?
- 49:46Speaker 4: He's the Raiders. Okay.
- 49:47Speaker 10: So anyway, he's the manager of Taco Bell, and he's
- 49:50Speaker 10: really involved in talking. So he doesn't do a very
- 49:54Speaker 10: good job with taking the order, and the customer is
- 49:57Speaker 10: in the drive-thru, and he shakes his hand.
- 49:59Speaker 4: And says, Nice. That's good. That's good.
- 50:04Speaker 7: All right.
- 50:05Speaker 9: I said we're going to talk a little bit of basketball.
- 50:08Speaker 9: I went up to Moody yesterday. I was already up there.
- 50:10Speaker 9: Went to Moody yesterday.
- 50:12Speaker 7: That's why I did all those fouls.
- 50:13Speaker 14: Oh, God.
- 50:15Speaker 7: That's what I was going to say.
- 50:17Speaker 3: I think it was me.
- 50:18Speaker 9: Because after I left, they started scoring some points. But
- 50:24Speaker 9: the majority of the first half, was just hand-to-hand combat.
- 50:32Speaker 9: It was like, and I want to say, it's like
- 50:35Speaker 9: they've never played together before.
- 50:37Speaker 4: Guess what?
- 50:38Speaker 9: There's 15 of them that haven't, right? You shake them up,
- 50:43Speaker 9: you throw them on the court. Now, I know they're practiced.
- 50:46Speaker 9: I know they've had a scrimmage. But it's like, well,
- 50:49Speaker 9: they've never played together before. But in the second half,
- 50:51Speaker 9: you know, and Bucky said on our postgame, it's like, well,
- 50:55Speaker 9: the first half, I don't know who that was. We
- 50:57Speaker 9: had practiced like that.
- 50:59Speaker 3: We had played like that.
- 51:00Speaker 9: But when they turned the lights on and put people
- 51:02Speaker 9: in the stands, you know, but obviously P.J.
- 51:06Speaker 3: Haggerty could score. That's the first thing we know, right?
- 51:09Speaker 9: That kid led the nation in scoring last year.
- 51:13Speaker 3: He can score.
- 51:14Speaker 4: We do know that.
- 51:15Speaker 10: I listened to that game, Chip, and it reminded me very,
- 51:18Speaker 10: very much of last year in the game against SMU.
- 51:21Speaker 14: Yes.
- 51:22Speaker 10: Because they allowed SMU to get way ahead.
- 51:25Speaker 4: Then they came back, they took the lead, and then
- 51:27Speaker 4: they let it get away.
- 51:28Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 51:29Speaker 4: Playing kind of dumb.
- 51:30Speaker 3: Similar game.
- 51:31Speaker 4: Fortunately, this game didn't count.
- 51:33Speaker 3: No, it didn't count. Last year's game did count.
- 51:34Speaker 12: Yep.
- 51:35Speaker 4: And so I'm really looking forward to it.
- 51:37Speaker 10: Yeah, but Haggerty, he hit 26?
- 51:40Speaker 7: 28, I think.
- 51:41Speaker 4: Okay. Yeah.
- 51:42Speaker 10: I mean, I don't think that overall McKenzie Mbako had
- 51:46Speaker 10: that great a game, did he?
- 51:49Speaker 9: He did get on the boards. He had 12 points
- 51:51Speaker 9: and eight boards. But he was minus 16.
- 51:54Speaker 4: He did hit two threes. He was two for six.
- 51:59Speaker 9: They didn't shoot threes at all well.
- 52:00Speaker 3: They were six for 26. And they were even worse
- 52:03Speaker 3: before they hit the last few.
- 52:04Speaker 10: Which is really weird because Bucky would rather.
- 52:07Speaker 4: Have you shoot the threes than the twos for the
- 52:09Speaker 4: most part.
- 52:10Speaker 17: Correct.
- 52:11Speaker 3: But I would say this.
- 52:12Speaker 9: Any game that features 94 free throws, you can't really
- 52:17Speaker 9: tell anything.
- 52:18Speaker 4: That's the other thing he said. What a terrible game
- 52:20Speaker 4: to watch.
- 52:21Speaker 9: And, you know, it took like three hours to play
- 52:23Speaker 9: because there were 94 free throws, which– Leads me to officiating,
- 52:28Speaker 9: which leads me back to football.
- 52:31Speaker 3: I just, I don't know.
- 52:33Speaker 9: What can, we have replays, and sometimes I don't get
- 52:37Speaker 9: those right. But my gosh, you can't, I believe that
- 52:43Speaker 9: they need coaches' challenges like the NFL to a game.
- 52:49Speaker 9: I believe they should be able to challenge pass interference.
- 52:52Speaker 9: That's always been a really difficult call to make for
- 52:56Speaker 9: any official. And we have seen pass interference, non-calls, change
- 53:02Speaker 9: the outcome of games with top 10 teams the last
- 53:05Speaker 9: three weeks. And I guess it's because I watch more
- 53:10Speaker 9: SEC football probably than any other conference. But they have
- 53:16Speaker 9: not improved their officiating in this conference.
- 53:20Speaker 4: Yeah, I know.
- 53:20Speaker 10: What frustrates me more than anything is when they have
- 53:23Speaker 10: a replay and they can– that ball was clearly out.
- 53:27Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 53:27Speaker 10: And yet they give them– there was a call like
- 53:29Speaker 10: that in the A & M game. It's like, you know,
- 53:32Speaker 10: it looked like the ball was out.
- 53:33Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 53:34Speaker 4: And then they gave the possession to the Alabama receiver.
- 53:36Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 53:37Speaker 4: Said it was a catch.
- 53:38Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 53:39Speaker 4: Get it right. Like, why do you look at that?
- 53:43Speaker 4: And I hate to, like, conclusive.
- 53:45Speaker 10: Just give me– I mean, have somebody with– The ability
- 53:49Speaker 10: to really judge that and say, you know what, this
- 53:53Speaker 10: may not be conclusive, but this looks like the right
- 53:56Speaker 10: call here.
- 53:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 53:58Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 53:58Speaker 3: I'm frustrated when I watch.
- 54:01Speaker 9: The two things I see when I watch football all
- 54:04Speaker 9: day long is how many mistakes teams make, which we've
- 54:08Speaker 9: talked about, that will get.
- 54:09Speaker 3: You beat every single time. Coaches' decisions, mostly.
- 54:16Speaker 9: And officiating that just stands out and and every game
- 54:20Speaker 9: there's blatant calls either missed or made when they shouldn't
- 54:26Speaker 9: have been made right at key points and look i
- 54:29Speaker 9: know they're going to miss calls i get it you
- 54:31Speaker 9: you can't be perfect right but man they have to
- 54:36Speaker 9: upgrade it it is just Coaches are losing jobs over
- 54:40Speaker 9: bad calls.
- 54:41Speaker 10: So I don't know what– I agree with you. There's
- 54:44Speaker 10: a way to go back and replay with pass interference.
- 54:48Speaker 10: I just think– of course, there's apples and oranges here.
- 54:51Speaker 4: But I think baseball is a much better game now.
- 54:53Speaker 12: It is.
- 54:54Speaker 4: I agree with you.
- 54:55Speaker 10: You can challenge the two times in the strike zone.
- 54:58Speaker 10: And it's so quick and it just– I think it's
- 55:02Speaker 10: made the umpiring better because– Yes.
- 55:04Speaker 3: I think it has too.
- 55:05Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 55:06Speaker 3: They've got to be focused.
- 55:07Speaker 17: Right.
- 55:08Speaker 4: And it can't be their zone. It has to be
- 55:11Speaker 4: the strike zone.
- 55:12Speaker 14: Yes.
- 55:13Speaker 7: I think your system might help with the flags because
- 55:16Speaker 7: if you watch the SEC, defense specs are so good.
- 55:22Speaker 7: They hold all the time because it's so quick. They
- 55:25Speaker 7: know where to grab and whatever. And you see a
- 55:28Speaker 7: lot of plays that aren't made. Because the guy is.
- 55:32Speaker 3: I'm not saying it's not difficult.
- 55:33Speaker 7: It is difficult.
- 55:34Speaker 3: The athletes are huge. They're fast. Everything happens fast. I
- 55:38Speaker 3: get it.
- 55:38Speaker 4: I agree.
- 55:39Speaker 10: I think whether they referee this now, you have one
- 55:43Speaker 10: hand in the receiver, they're not going to call it.
- 55:44Speaker 10: As soon as you get that second hand on there,
- 55:47Speaker 10: you're going to get the flag.
- 55:48Speaker 3: Gentlemen, we've got to quit.
- 55:49Speaker 4: What a deal.
- 55:50Speaker 14: I know.
- 55:50Speaker 4: I know.
- 55:51Speaker 3: Thanks for coming out.
