- 0:02Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
- 0:06rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, February 15th.
- 0:11Wise choices. Lasting impact.
- 0:14Think about how many choices you make in a single day.
- 0:16Most of them feel small, almost invisible.
- 0:19Whether you finish what you started or put it off, whether
- 0:23you join in on a joke you know crosses a line or quietly walk
- 0:26away, whether you show up when someone is counting on you or
- 0:30decide it's not worth the effort.
- 0:33None of those moments feel dramatic.
- 0:35But together they are shaping who you're becoming.
- 0:38Proverbs chapter 10, verse 23 says doing wrong is like a joke
- 0:43to a fool, but wisdom is pleasure to a man of
- 0:45understanding. That verse exposes something
- 0:48deep. When sin feels funny, casual, or
- 0:52harmless, it's a warning sign. Wisdom doesn't find joy in
- 0:55cutting corners or laughing at what hurts others.
- 0:59Wisdom finds pleasure in choosing what's right even when
- 1:02no one is applauding. A few verses later, Proverbs
- 1:06chapter 10, verse 26 gives us a picture we can almost feel.
- 1:11It says a sluggard is like vinegar to the teeth and smoke
- 1:14to the eyes to those who depend on them.
- 1:16In other words, unreliability frustrates people.
- 1:20Laziness doesn't stay personal. It affects families, teams,
- 1:24friendships, and trust. Our choices don't live in
- 1:27isolation, they ripple outward. Then Acts chapter 15 brings us
- 1:32into a moment where the early church had to make a huge
- 1:35decision. New believers were coming to
- 1:37faith people who didn't look like them or follow all their
- 1:41traditions. The question was simple but
- 1:44loaded. Would they burden people with
- 1:46rules or would they lead with grace?
- 1:49Peter stands up and says in Acts chapter 15, verse 11, We believe
- 1:54that we will be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus,
- 1:56just as they will. That decision changed
- 1:59everything. The church chose wisdom over
- 2:02pride, grace over control, unity over division.
- 2:07And because of that choice, the gospel spread farther and faster
- 2:10than anyone could have imagined. Here's the connection for us.
- 2:14Wise choices aren't always the loudest or easiest ones.
- 2:18They're often quiet, consistent decisions to do what honors God
- 2:22and serves others well. Choosing integrity when sin is
- 2:26treated like a joke. Choosing dependability when it
- 2:29would be easier to drift. Choosing grace when judgment
- 2:32feels more natural. You may not see the impact of
- 2:36today's decisions right away, but over time they shape your
- 2:39character, your witness, and your future.
- 2:41Wisdom builds trust. Faithfulness opens doors.
- 2:46Grace reflects the heart of Jesus to a watching world.
- 2:49Your life is telling a story, one choice at a time.
- 2:53And when your decisions are guided by wisdom and grace, that
- 2:56story has the power to point people to Jesus and leave a
- 2:59lasting impact far beyond what you can see.
- 3:02Let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank you for
- 3:06reminding me that even my smallest choices matter to you.
- 3:09Help me not to treat sin lightly, but to find joy in
- 3:12walking in wisdom. Teach me to be dependable,
- 3:16thoughtful, and faithful in the things you've entrusted to me.
- 3:19Fill my heart with the grace of Jesus so my decisions reflect
- 3:23your love and truth. I want my life to leave a
- 3:26lasting impact that brings you glory in Jesus name, Amen.

- 4:48Journey Now I invite you to spend time with God in today's
- 4:52three-year Bible reading plan. Proverbs Chapter 10 verses 23
- 4:57and 26. World English Bible It is a
- 5:01fool's pleasure to do wickedness, but wisdom is a man
- 5:04of understandings pleasure as vinegar to the teeth and as
- 5:07smoke to the eyes, so is the slugger to those who send him.
- 5:10Acts chapter 15 World English Bible Some men came down from
- 5:15Judea and taught the brothers. Unless you are circumcised after
- 5:18the custom of Moses, you can't be saved.
- 5:21Therefore, when Paul and Barnabas had no small discord
- 5:24and discussion with them, they appointed Paul, Barnabas, and
- 5:28some others of them to go up to Jerusalem to the apostles and
- 5:31elders. About this question.
- 5:33They, being sent on their way by the assembly, passed through
- 5:36both Phoenicia and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the
- 5:39Gentiles. They caused great joy to all the
- 5:42brothers. When they had come to Jerusalem.
- 5:45They were received by the assembly and the apostles and
- 5:48the elders, and they reported everything that God had done
- 5:51with them. But some of the sect of the
- 5:53Pharisees who believed rose up, saying, it is necessary to
- 5:57circumcise them and to command them to keep the law of Moses.
- 6:01The apostles and the elders were gathered together to see about
- 6:04this matter. When there had been much
- 6:06discussion, Peter rose up and said to them, Brothers, you know
- 6:10that a good while ago God made a choice among you, that by my
- 6:13mouth the nations should hear the word of the good news and
- 6:16believe. God, who knows the heart,
- 6:18testified about them, giving them the Holy Spirit, just like
- 6:21He did to us. He made no distinction between
- 6:24us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith.
- 6:27Now, therefore, why do you tempt God that you should put a yoke
- 6:30on the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we
- 6:33were able to bear, but we believe that we are saved
- 6:35through the grace of the Lord Jesus, just as they are.
- 6:39All the multitude kept silence, and they listened to Barnabas
- 6:42and Paul reporting what signs and wonders God had done among
- 6:45the nations through them. After they were silent, James
- 6:48answered. Brothers, listen to me.
- 6:50Simeon has reported how God first visited the nations to
- 6:54take out of them a people for his name.
- 6:56This agrees with the words of the prophets as it is written.
- 7:00After these things I will return.
- 7:02I will again build the Tabernacle of David which has
- 7:04fallen. I will again build its ruins.
- 7:07I will set it up that the rest of men may seek after the Lord.
- 7:10All the Gentiles who are called by my name says the Lord, who
- 7:14does all these things. All of God's works are known to
- 7:17him from eternity. Therefore my judgment is that we
- 7:20don't trouble those from among the Gentiles who turn to God,
- 7:24but that we write to them that they abstain from the pollution
- 7:26of idols, from sexual immorality, from what is
- 7:29strangled, and from blood. For Moses from generations of
- 7:33old has in every city those who preach him, being read in the
- 7:36synagogue's every Sabbath. Then it seemed good to the
- 7:39apostles and the elders with the whole assembly to choose men out
- 7:43of their company and send them to Antioch with Paul and
- 7:46Barnabas. Judas called Barsabas and Selas
- 7:49chief men among the brothers. They wrote these things by their
- 7:52hand, the apostles, the elders, and the brothers.
- 7:56To the brothers who are of the Gentiles in Antioch, Syria and
- 7:59Silesia, greetings, because we have heard that some who went
- 8:02out from us have troubled you with words unsettling your
- 8:05souls, saying you must be circumcised and keep the law to
- 8:09whom we gave no commandment. It seemed good to us, having
- 8:13come to 1 accord, to choose out men and send them to you with
- 8:16our beloved Barnabas and Paul, men who have risked their lives
- 8:20for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- 8:22We have sent, therefore Judas and Selas, who themselves will
- 8:26also tell you the same things by word of mouth.
- 8:28For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay no
- 8:32greater burden on you than these necessary things, that you
- 8:35abstain from things sacrificed to idols, from blood, from
- 8:39things strangled, and from sexual immorality, from which,
- 8:42if you keep yourselves, it will be well with you.
- 8:44Farewell. So when they were sent off, they
- 8:46came to Antioch. Having gathered the multitude
- 8:49together, they delivered the letter.
- 8:51When they had read it, they rejoiced over the encouragement.
- 8:54Judas and Selas also being prophets themselves, encouraged
- 8:58the brothers with many words and strengthen them.
- 9:01After they had spent some time there, they were dismissed in
- 9:04peace from the brothers to the apostles.
- 9:06But Paul and Barnabas stayed in Antioch teaching and preaching
- 9:10the word of the Lord with many others also.
- 9:13After some days, Paul said to Barnabas, Let's return now and
- 9:16visit our brothers in every city in which we proclaimed the word
- 9:19of the Lord to see how they are doing.
- 9:22Barnabas plan to take John, who was called Mark, with them also.
- 9:26But Paul didn't think that it was a good idea to take with
- 9:28them someone who had withdrawn from them in Pamphylia and
- 9:32didn't go with them to do the work.
- 9:34Then the contention grew so sharp that they separated from
- 9:37each other. Barnabas took Mark with him and
- 9:39sailed away to Cyprus. But Paul chose Selas and went
- 9:43out, being commended by the brothers to the grace of God.
- 9:46He went through Syria and Silesia, strengthening the
- 9:49assemblies. Thanks for joining us on Bible
