- Adam Rutz: Pressure feels a lot different when your mind has already been there. That's why mental imagery can be such a powerful performance tool. A lot of people they hear the word visualization and they think that means picturing the perfect outcome. Maybe it's the perfect game or the perfect presentation, the perfect sales call. But real mental preparation goes way deeper than that. You don't just rehearse success. You rehearse your response. Picture the environment. Picture the pressure. Picture something not going your way. Maybe you make an early mistake. Maybe you get a bad call. Maybe someone gives you an objection that you weren't expecting. Now rehearse what happens next. See yourself staying composed. See yourself controlling your breathing. See yourself getting back to your routine and executing the next moment. Think about a big sales presentation. Maybe it's a huge case you've been working on for weeks, and in your mind you've built this meeting up to be some massive moment. But if you've prepared the right way, you've already been there. You've had sales conversations before. You've answered objections before. You've explained your value before. You've closed business before. You've done this a hundred times. This moment might be bigger, but it's not new. That's what mental preparation gives you familiarity. Because confidence doesn't come from pretending that nothing's gonna go wrong. Confidence comes from knowing you're prepared to respond when it does. So before your next important performance, take a minute and mentally go there first. See what you'll see, feel what you'll feel, and most importantly, rehearse the response that you want to have. Because when the real moment arrives, you want part of you to think, I've already been here. Mindset, process, discipline, execution, that's mental performance daily.
