- 0:03Speaker 1: We welcome into Off the Bench, presented by All Star Toyota.
- 0:08Speaker 2: You're scary.
- 0:09Speaker 1: We're bringing in the school sports talking so with Jacob Hester.
- 0:15Speaker 2: And Terrifying Terrible.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Live from the Haunting Studio.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Here's Jacob Hester, welcome in our number one, a Thursday
- 0:32Speaker 3: edition of Off the Bench. Taylor Sharp and a Landra
- 0:35Speaker 3: Villarriale here at the producer chair. So look, Jake and
- 0:40Speaker 3: Matt are out our number one. They will be back
- 0:43Speaker 3: here for hours number two and three. We're gonna hang
- 0:45Speaker 3: out with you for the next sixty minutes or so.
- 0:47Speaker 3: Here's the deal. You remember when Frank Wilson was named
- 0:50Speaker 3: interim on Sunday, everyone said Brian Kelly didn't really allow
- 0:54Speaker 3: former players back into the building. That's going to change
- 0:57Speaker 3: with Frank Wilson. Well, guys, it's changing and changing quickly.
- 0:59Speaker 3: Jake Matter actually going to be at LSU speaking to
- 1:03Speaker 3: the team.
- 1:04Speaker 4: I think that's great.
- 1:05Speaker 3: I think as pivotal as it is for LSU football
- 1:08Speaker 3: right now, that might actually be more important than coming
- 1:10Speaker 3: here and hosted the radio show.
- 1:11Speaker 4: So we are good with it.
- 1:12Speaker 3: And if you're watching on YouTube and you see our
- 1:15Speaker 3: get ups, no, I didn't kill anyone in the parking lot,
- 1:19Speaker 3: and Alandra did not cut her hair. We are dressed
- 1:22Speaker 3: up in Halloween costumes. Did Jake and Matt say they're
- 1:25Speaker 3: going to be dressed up when they get back at
- 1:28Speaker 3: the eight o'clock hour?
- 1:29Speaker 4: We went ahead and did it. Alandra? What what are you?
- 1:32Speaker 5: I am Mia Wallace from pulp Fiction. So I actually
- 1:37Speaker 5: did cut off my hair and died it blacks.
- 1:39Speaker 4: Oh wait, I thought you said it was a wig.
- 1:41Speaker 6: Wig.
- 1:42Speaker 4: You went all out well honest.
- 1:45Speaker 6: So this is like my favorite costume I've ever done.
- 1:47Speaker 4: It looks great.
- 1:48Speaker 3: I mean when you when you walked in today, I
- 1:50Speaker 3: was like, Okay, the shirt is perfect, the wig is perfect.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Like it's one of those things where even if you
- 1:56Speaker 3: haven't seen the movie, everybody knews is like what you are,
- 2:01Speaker 3: even if you haven't seen the movie yet. So like,
- 2:02Speaker 3: I think you nailed it.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Me.
- 2:04Speaker 3: On the other hand, I didn't think this through. I
- 2:07Speaker 3: didn't realize we were gonna have to do the first hour.
- 2:09Speaker 3: We're gonna actually see how I sound. I am Jason.
- 2:13Speaker 3: So we got this really pretty looking mask right now.
- 2:16Speaker 3: It's as you can see on YouTube. I didn't want
- 2:19Speaker 3: to start the show with this on I thought it
- 2:21Speaker 3: might look a little jarring, Jake said the other day.
- 2:25Speaker 3: Tell her you're not gonna have any problem doing a
- 2:27Speaker 3: Halloween costume. You have plenty of them. You dress up
- 2:29Speaker 3: every year. Sure, but I like to go like pretty
- 2:32Speaker 3: all out, pretty elaborate. And we kind of decided what
- 2:36Speaker 3: Tuesday we were actually going to like finally dress up. So, I, guys,
- 2:40Speaker 3: I'll be very honest. I was like, let me think
- 2:42Speaker 3: of something that I already have. I had this mask
- 2:45Speaker 3: from like years ago, I don't even remember why, and
- 2:47Speaker 3: so I found an old white T shirts platted some
- 2:49Speaker 3: blood on it, and here we are. We are Jason
- 2:52Speaker 3: and Landra Mia Wallace. Not exactly a couple costume, but
- 2:55Speaker 3: you know what, I think we look pretty good back here.
- 2:58Speaker 3: And you know, we were talking about it on Monday, Alanda,
- 3:02Speaker 3: we didn't get to show it because I don't know
- 3:03Speaker 3: if you know this. A little bit happened over the weekend. Really, yeah,
- 3:07Speaker 3: a little bit happened. My family Halloween costume contest was
- 3:11Speaker 3: on Sunday, and I figured, you and I are dressed
- 3:15Speaker 3: up right now, why not go ahead and show everybody.
- 3:17Speaker 3: So me and Victoria did snow Miser and heat Miser
- 3:20Speaker 3: from a year without a Santa Claus, here is your boy, fully.
- 3:24Speaker 4: White faced, white hair white.
- 3:27Speaker 3: It's a witch nose that I painted white, is exactly
- 3:29Speaker 3: what it is. Victoria's got the flame hair, She's got
- 3:32Speaker 3: the nose as well.
- 3:33Speaker 4: I think we nailed it.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I thought it looked great, but like,
- 3:36Speaker 3: that's the type of costumes I do. So Jake was like, oh, Taylor,
- 3:40Speaker 3: I know you'll be down. You have all these costumes.
- 3:42Speaker 3: I'm like, yeah, but do I want to take the
- 3:45Speaker 3: time to go ahead and go all out? I gotta
- 3:49Speaker 3: call it a high school football game tonight. I can't
- 3:50Speaker 3: exactly show up with a fake nose and painted completely white.
- 3:55Speaker 3: So we went up to pretty simple. I think it
- 3:57Speaker 3: worked out well. I think we'll be fine.
- 4:00Speaker 4: Guys.
- 4:00Speaker 3: There is a lot to unpack today. We'll start with
- 4:03Speaker 3: the governor's comments here in just a second, but before
- 4:07Speaker 3: we do, let's actually do it correctly and get the
- 4:10Speaker 3: show started.
- 4:12Speaker 1: It's time to get glowing courtesy of go Flow ivy spa,
- 4:15Speaker 1: where hydration vitamins and a summer ready glow are always
- 4:19Speaker 1: on tap now for starters.
- 4:25Speaker 3: Okay, so, yesterday Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry gave a little
- 4:30Speaker 3: bit more clarity to the LSU football head coaching situation.
- 4:33Speaker 3: So we don't know who the candidates are, we don't
- 4:36Speaker 3: know who LSU is going to hire. We do know
- 4:38Speaker 3: who's making the higher or should I say who is
- 4:42Speaker 3: not going to be making the higher Jeff Landry did
- 4:45Speaker 3: not pull any punches. He was pretty adamant about who
- 4:49Speaker 3: was not going to make this higher. And look, I'm
- 4:52Speaker 3: not gonna put words into the man's mouth. Let's hear
- 4:54Speaker 3: it from him himself. It's about two minutes, but I
- 4:56Speaker 3: want you to hear it all because there's a lot
- 4:58Speaker 3: to unpack here. So here is Governor Jeff Landry.
- 5:02Speaker 7: The first question is absolutely correct. We are not going
- 5:06Speaker 7: down a failed path. And I wanted to tell you something.
- 5:11Speaker 7: This is a pattern. The guy that's here now that
- 5:14Speaker 7: wrote that contract cost Texas A and them seventy something
- 5:18Speaker 7: million dollars. Right now, we got a fifty three million
- 5:22Speaker 7: dollar liability. We are not doing that again. And you
- 5:24Speaker 7: know what, I believe. I believe that we're gonna find
- 5:27Speaker 7: a great coach and maybe we'll let President Trump pick it.
- 5:29Speaker 4: He loves winners.
- 5:30Speaker 7: You know, I'm not gonna be picking the next coach.
- 5:33Speaker 7: But I can promise you we're gonna pick a coach,
- 5:37Speaker 7: and we're gonna make sure that that coach is successful,
- 5:40Speaker 7: and we're gonna make sure that he's compensated properly, and
- 5:42Speaker 7: we're gonna put metrics on it, because I'm tired of
- 5:46Speaker 7: rewarding failure in this country and then leaving the taxpayers
- 5:50Speaker 7: on the foot, you know, to foot the bill. So yeah, absolutely,
- 5:55Speaker 7: who'sai No, I can tell you right now is not
- 5:59Speaker 7: selecting the next coach. Hell, I'll let Donald Trump select
- 6:02Speaker 7: it before I let him do it.
- 6:03Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 6:04Speaker 7: But the Border super Yer is gonna come up with
- 6:05Speaker 7: a committee and they're gonna go find us a coach.
- 6:08Speaker 7: Because why Mary, I want to hold all up one
- 6:10Speaker 7: real quick thing on that, because here's what y'all reporters
- 6:13Speaker 7: need to do. Y'all need to start looking and who
- 6:15Speaker 7: represents all these people like these agents? You know, it's
- 6:19Speaker 7: interesting if I'm not mistaken, what is agent Kelly's agent?
- 6:24Speaker 7: The Texas saying they all the same agent?
- 6:27Speaker 4: Like you realize if I would be.
- 6:29Speaker 7: I don't know how y'all, how many sports riders we
- 6:31Speaker 7: got here today? Just you we should have a bunch okay,
- 6:36Speaker 7: like This is ridiculous. Lawyers would be this board for
- 6:40Speaker 7: the way these agents act and the way they're able
- 6:42Speaker 7: to represent. In fact, they may there's no doubt they
- 6:45Speaker 7: may even represent some of the players now, like it's
- 6:48Speaker 7: really time for the NCAA to put on some guardrails
- 6:52Speaker 7: in college sports, because it is fine, we don't need
- 6:56Speaker 7: the guardrails. The big billionaires want to spend all that
- 6:59Speaker 7: kind of money, no problem. But if I got to
- 7:01Speaker 7: go find fifty three million dollars from Kim, It's not
- 7:03Speaker 7: going to be a pleasant conversation.
- 7:06Speaker 6: I'm just telling you, I know, and I.
- 7:08Speaker 7: Think that that's important as well. Y'all should start looking
- 7:10Speaker 7: at today.
- 7:12Speaker 4: Certainly a lot to unpack here, so okay.
- 7:14Speaker 3: I also find it really funny he said, how many
- 7:17Speaker 3: sports reporters are in the audience?
- 7:19Speaker 4: Just you? Okay?
- 7:20Speaker 3: This was originally a press conference for Snap Benefits in Louisiana,
- 7:24Speaker 3: which I find objectively hilarious.
- 7:27Speaker 4: I don't know how you got to.
- 7:28Speaker 3: The topic of Scott Woodward when you know, to have
- 7:31Speaker 3: any press conference about Snap benefits, But whatever he did,
- 7:34Speaker 3: there is a lot to unpack there. Some of it
- 7:36Speaker 3: I actually agree with a lot of it. I don't
- 7:39Speaker 3: there's some pretty wild stuff. Let's let's get into to
- 7:42Speaker 3: the beginning where he said Scott Woodward gave out a
- 7:46Speaker 3: contract that calls LSU to possibly pay fifty four million
- 7:49Speaker 3: dollars and Texas A and M seventy three. Yes, LSU
- 7:53Speaker 3: could potentially have to pay Brian Kelly fifty four million
- 7:55Speaker 3: dollars in a buyout. That's on Scott Woodward. It was
- 7:58Speaker 3: a ten year deal, awfully guaranteed. That's on him. The
- 8:01Speaker 3: seventy three million dollars that he's referring to was Jimbo
- 8:04Speaker 3: Fisher's buyout at Texas A and M. I know it's
- 8:07Speaker 3: a common way of thinking, like someone brings something up,
- 8:11Speaker 3: everyone else's kind of rolls with it. Russ By Yorke
- 8:14Speaker 3: gave Jimbo Fisher that seventy three million dollar buyout at
- 8:17Speaker 3: Texas A and M. If you remember, Jimbo got the
- 8:20Speaker 3: extension following that twenty twenty season. It was the COVID
- 8:23Speaker 3: year A and M went nine to one, just barely
- 8:25Speaker 3: missed the playoff. They extended him after that. Scott Woodward
- 8:29Speaker 3: was already here because he was at LSU in twenty
- 8:31Speaker 3: nineteen obviously, so that part's not correct. Now, did Wouldward
- 8:36Speaker 3: give Jimbo a ten year deal? Yes, he did, And
- 8:39Speaker 3: maybe that's where I agree with Governor Landry who he
- 8:42Speaker 3: said these ten year deals are out of control. I agree,
- 8:45Speaker 3: I don't like the ten year deal. Like, yes, Woodward
- 8:47Speaker 3: did not give the big extension to cause all the
- 8:49Speaker 3: buyout money, but he did give Jimbo a ten year,
- 8:51Speaker 3: seventy five million dollar deal up front in order to
- 8:54Speaker 3: take the job. So maybe there's a little pushback there
- 8:57Speaker 3: as well. Like as we go through this, you can
- 8:59Speaker 3: look at and say, I'll defend Scott Woodward. I'll be
- 9:02Speaker 3: Againstcott Woodward really dependent on what aisle you said on
- 9:05Speaker 3: we'll break all that down. But blaming Woodward for the
- 9:11Speaker 3: Jimbo Fisher buyout, it's a lot like when everyone used
- 9:14Speaker 3: to say, oh, well, Glenn Dorsey won all those awards
- 9:17Speaker 3: his senior year, but his junior year was actually better.
- 9:20Speaker 4: No, it wasn't.
- 9:22Speaker 3: His junior year wasn't better, Like, go look at the numbers.
- 9:24Speaker 3: Not only did he make just a bigger impact altogether
- 9:26Speaker 3: his senior year, Israel numbers were better as a senior.
- 9:29Speaker 3: It's just one of those things that someone throws out
- 9:32Speaker 3: there and everyone claims that's fact. Governor's dead wrong about that.
- 9:36Speaker 3: That was not Jimbo Fisher, that was not Woodward. They
- 9:39Speaker 3: gave Jimbo the big extension. Also, Elandra, I need you
- 9:43Speaker 3: to do something. I need your next guarantee paycheck check
- 9:46Speaker 3: and see if we take extra taxes out because Governor
- 9:49Speaker 3: Landry believes that US taxpayers are actually footing the bill
- 9:53Speaker 3: for that fifty four million dollar buyout.
- 9:56Speaker 4: I mean, we got a check.
- 9:58Speaker 6: I just don't think that's accurate, but I will look
- 10:00Speaker 6: it up.
- 10:02Speaker 3: I appreciate you giving the benefit of the doubt and
- 10:05Speaker 3: say it not thinking that's no. Taxpayers are not footing
- 10:08Speaker 3: the bill for a fifty four million dollars buyout. I
- 10:11Speaker 3: know what he's doing. He's a politician. He's trying to,
- 10:15Speaker 3: you know, kind of exaggerate things a little bit. Taxpayers
- 10:17Speaker 3: are not footing the bill for Brian Kelly or any
- 10:20Speaker 3: other head coaches buyout.
- 10:21Speaker 4: That's not happening.
- 10:24Speaker 3: I do agree with Landry though, that why repeat a
- 10:26Speaker 3: failed system. It didn't work with Brian Kelly giving him
- 10:30Speaker 3: the ten year deal with the big buyout, and blame
- 10:32Speaker 3: Woodward or not, it didn't work out for Texas A
- 10:34Speaker 3: and M with Jimbo Fisher, so I do agree on that.
- 10:38Speaker 3: I also appreciate he did put in there. I will
- 10:41Speaker 3: not be making the higher do I believe that. I
- 10:44Speaker 3: have no idea. But it's not Jeff Landry and it's
- 10:48Speaker 3: not Scott Woodward. That's what we know for sure. So
- 10:52Speaker 3: then that brings up the point should Woodward even be
- 10:54Speaker 3: allowed to make this higher? Well, it's his job to
- 10:57Speaker 3: make this higher, at least for now.
- 10:59Speaker 4: I am not imagine.
- 11:01Speaker 3: You know, the word is LSU's trying to close it
- 11:03Speaker 3: on a university president very soon. I imagine Scott Woodward will
- 11:06Speaker 3: be replaced at this point. I don't know how he
- 11:08Speaker 3: can continue his job. I mean, the governor of the
- 11:10Speaker 3: state of Louisiana came out and said, yeah, we have
- 11:13Speaker 3: an athletic director, but uh, we don't trust him. As
- 11:15Speaker 3: far as we can throw him, he's gonna have to
- 11:17Speaker 3: be out here. So I don't really see how Scott
- 11:20Speaker 3: Woodward continues as a lame duck athletic director after these statements.
- 11:24Speaker 3: So I imagine that's coming. That's literally just an assumption on
- 11:27Speaker 3: my part. Do we worry about Scott Woodward making this higher?
- 11:33Speaker 3: Full disclosure. I'd rather Woodward make the higher than Governor Landry. However, yes,
- 11:38Speaker 3: I had some concerns. I feel like a lot of
- 11:40Speaker 3: times in football, Scott Woodward targeted the biggest name. I'm
- 11:44Speaker 3: gonna make the biggest splash. Maybe didn't look for the
- 11:46Speaker 3: best fit. Like everyone wants to bring up Lane Kiffin.
- 11:50Speaker 3: If you want to hire Lane Kiffin, hire him because
- 11:53Speaker 3: he's the best fit. Don't hire him because his name's
- 11:56Speaker 3: Lane Kiffin. I think Scott Woodward's been a little guilty
- 11:59Speaker 3: of that at times. Now Woodward's taking heat for his
- 12:02Speaker 3: football hires, and I get it. You're in the South,
- 12:05Speaker 3: you were at A and M, you were at LSU.
- 12:07Speaker 3: You're going to get blamed for the success and failure
- 12:11Speaker 3: of the football program.
- 12:12Speaker 4: Look at what Jay has done.
- 12:14Speaker 3: I mean, the women's basketball team just won a national
- 12:16Speaker 3: championship a few years ago because Scott Woodward hired Kim Moulky.
- 12:20Speaker 4: Now, how hard was it to hire her? I don't know.
- 12:23Speaker 3: I feel like a lot of people could have hired
- 12:25Speaker 3: Kim Maulki. But that is a notch on Scott Woodward's belt.
- 12:28Speaker 3: He gets credit for that. Then you look at Jay Johnson.
- 12:32Speaker 3: That's the crown jewel there ain't a person in Louisiana
- 12:35Speaker 3: has a bad thing to say about Jay Johnson on
- 12:37Speaker 3: or off the field. Two Natties in four seasons and
- 12:40Speaker 3: he just continues to reloy. Those are two positives you
- 12:44Speaker 3: want to bring up a negative LSU basketball Matt McMahon.
- 12:50Speaker 3: But I will give Scott Woodward a little bit of
- 12:53Speaker 3: a pass on this for a number of reasons, and
- 12:55Speaker 3: I've been critical of Scott Woodward in the past. At
- 12:58Speaker 3: the time, most people liked the higher because Matt McMahon
- 13:01Speaker 3: had a really good resume at Murray State. Hand up
- 13:03Speaker 3: I did. When I saw what he did at Murray State.
- 13:05Speaker 3: He recruited John Moran, I was like, Okay, this is
- 13:07Speaker 3: a guy that could work out. Number two, who was
- 13:10Speaker 3: going to take that job? Find me a big name
- 13:13Speaker 3: coach that coached at a high level at a big
- 13:15Speaker 3: time program that was going to take that LSU job.
- 13:18Speaker 3: With all the uncertainty around the LSU basketball program. Can't
- 13:20Speaker 3: think of one. Number three. LSU's never really invested in basketball.
- 13:26Speaker 3: Like most of the SEC schools, it's football then basketball.
- 13:30Speaker 3: Here at LSU, it's football and baseball. That's why you
- 13:33Speaker 3: dominate in baseball and your basketball program has struggled to
- 13:36Speaker 3: catch up to those. But even if Matt McMahon turns
- 13:40Speaker 3: it around, what Scott Woodard always going to be known for.
- 13:43Speaker 3: Scott Woodard's always going to be known for the guy
- 13:45Speaker 3: that fired Will Wade, not the guy that hired Matt McMahon.
- 13:47Speaker 4: It just is what it is.
- 13:48Speaker 3: Wild Wade was a beloved figure, had a lot of
- 13:51Speaker 3: support here. So even if Matt McMahon turns this thing around,
- 13:54Speaker 3: the Tigers are at NCAA tournament team this year, he's
- 13:57Speaker 3: always going to be looked at more of you got
- 13:59Speaker 3: rid of Will Wade not hiring Mad McMahon. Do I
- 14:06Speaker 3: care if Scott Woodward makes this higher?
- 14:08Speaker 4: Nope? Do I care if Governor Landry makes his higher?
- 14:12Speaker 2: No.
- 14:12Speaker 3: As a matter of fact, I'm glad he's not. I
- 14:14Speaker 3: don't care who makes this higher as long as the
- 14:17Speaker 3: right person gets the job. What I do care about
- 14:21Speaker 3: is your governor getting on TV and embarrassing LSU, because
- 14:25Speaker 3: what has been the talk nationally. It hasn't been Oh,
- 14:28Speaker 3: the LSU coaching higher just got interesting, or oh, it's
- 14:31Speaker 3: Scott Woodard's a job on the line. It's everybody retweeting
- 14:34Speaker 3: stuff and saying, is this real is this actually happening
- 14:37Speaker 3: in the state of Louisiana, Because now, look, I'm sure
- 14:40Speaker 3: his intentions were good, because what he brought up it
- 14:43Speaker 3: was all I want to help people in Louisiana. I
- 14:45Speaker 3: want to help LSU. I'm sure his intentions were good.
- 14:48Speaker 3: But what big name head coach is going to want
- 14:51Speaker 3: to take this job? Now, what recruit's going to want
- 14:56Speaker 3: to come here not knowing who's getting hired or who's
- 14:58Speaker 3: even making the higher? Just think more harm was done
- 15:03Speaker 3: during the speech than good. And again, I'm sure his
- 15:05Speaker 3: intentions were good. I just think it's a bad look
- 15:08Speaker 3: and I can't get behind it. So who's LSU going
- 15:11Speaker 3: to hire?
- 15:12Speaker 4: We don't know.
- 15:12Speaker 3: But what we do know, Scott Woodward will not be
- 15:15Speaker 3: the one making that higher. All right, we'll step away
- 15:17Speaker 3: here real quick. When we get back, we know it's
- 15:20Speaker 3: not Scott Woodward. Who are some candidates that could be
- 15:23Speaker 3: Le's use the next head coach. We'll dive into that.
- 15:25Speaker 3: You know, Lander kind of have the same opinion on
- 15:27Speaker 3: Lane Kiff, and we'll go a little bit back and
- 15:29Speaker 3: forth on that as well. That's all coming up on
- 15:31Speaker 3: the other side here on off the bench, Off the bench.

- 17:06Speaker 3: That's what everybody in the chat wants you to be called.
- 17:08Speaker 3: Neil Wallace, Yeah, from pulp fiction.
- 17:11Speaker 6: So give me so many nicknames. I can't keep up anything.
- 17:14Speaker 4: It flows well together, though.
- 17:17Speaker 3: I think having an A and an A like beginning
- 17:19Speaker 3: and into your name, you gotta add it to anything.
- 17:22Speaker 5: People are asking if I'm with you the dance, I'm
- 17:23Speaker 5: doing the dance. Later you gonna make a video.
- 17:26Speaker 4: We're excited about that. We're excited about that that's done.
- 17:30Speaker 3: It looks great, yeah, and like it's one of those
- 17:32Speaker 3: things that it's like.
- 17:35Speaker 4: But at the same time, like it works.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:38Speaker 3: I totally should have done. Paul Cap Bruce Willis, I
- 17:40Speaker 3: just I didn't have time. I just didn't have time.
- 17:42Speaker 3: We had to cut the grass yesterday. Launder was a
- 17:44Speaker 3: big day, Okay, huge tease.
- 17:48Speaker 4: It a little bit. They were going in to break.
- 17:50Speaker 3: I want to look at some candidates right now for
- 17:52Speaker 3: the LSU head coaching job, because if Scott Woodward's not
- 17:56Speaker 3: making the higher. First off, if you missed the first
- 17:58Speaker 3: segment and you missed a lot. Yesterday, Governor Jeff Landry
- 18:02Speaker 3: came out and said that Scott Woodward, current athletic director
- 18:05Speaker 3: at LSU, we will not be making the hire, will
- 18:07Speaker 3: not be involved in the searching process for LSU's next
- 18:10Speaker 3: head coach.
- 18:12Speaker 4: I'm a lodger. You know, Florida.
- 18:14Speaker 3: After Urban Meyer won those two national championships, they struggled
- 18:17Speaker 3: to keep coaches long term.
- 18:19Speaker 4: Let me ask you this, I may have missed it.
- 18:21Speaker 3: Did Governor Ron DeSantis come out and uh publicly criticized
- 18:24Speaker 3: Scott Strickland.
- 18:26Speaker 5: I have not seen anything of that nature, So I
- 18:29Speaker 5: don't think so.
- 18:30Speaker 6: But I can't say it for a fact. I didn't anything.
- 18:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't think What about What about Pennsylvania? Did
- 18:34Speaker 3: their governor come out and criticize them for the James
- 18:36Speaker 3: Franklin buy out?
- 18:37Speaker 6: Don't think so?
- 18:38Speaker 3: Okay, So it's just sell us, Okay, cool, great, awesome.
- 18:42Speaker 3: We were talking about Lane Kiff in a little bit
- 18:44Speaker 3: last segment, and I like Lane.
- 18:47Speaker 4: I think that.
- 18:48Speaker 3: Lane has grown up a lot more in these past
- 18:50Speaker 3: four years. Like if this was four years ago, no,
- 18:54Speaker 3: I'm glad LSU didn't hire him. I don't think he
- 18:55Speaker 3: was ready for the LSU job four years ago. This
- 18:58Speaker 3: year maybe a little bit of a different story. But
- 19:01Speaker 3: I just feel like there's so many people out there
- 19:03Speaker 3: that are Lane Kiffin or bust. I want Lane Kiffin.
- 19:06Speaker 3: I've locked in on this guy. If we don't get him,
- 19:07Speaker 3: I'm gonna be pissed. I don't think that's the right
- 19:10Speaker 3: way to look at anything. Is Lane Kiffin a good coach, Yeah,
- 19:13Speaker 3: he's a good coach. Are there other good coaches out there? Yeah,
- 19:15Speaker 3: there's a lot of good candidates. We'll talk about someone
- 19:17Speaker 3: here in just a second. But there are so many
- 19:21Speaker 3: people out there. When you fall in love with a candidate,
- 19:24Speaker 3: when you fall in love with a quarterback, a player,
- 19:26Speaker 3: or anything, it is very easy to only see the
- 19:30Speaker 3: positive and kind of block out the negative. Alandra mentioned
- 19:34Speaker 3: this the other day, like she didn't really want Lane
- 19:37Speaker 3: Kiffin as the head coach. Now my stance has have
- 19:39Speaker 3: been a little bit more neutral. But also, is Lane
- 19:42Speaker 3: Kiffin worth the money it's going to take to get
- 19:44Speaker 3: him here.
- 19:45Speaker 4: I don't know. I'll ask you first, Solandra, biggest concern
- 19:49Speaker 4: with Lane Kiffin? What is it?
- 19:50Speaker 5: Well, first, I just want to say I don't think
- 19:53Speaker 5: that you can ever really truly know if a coach
- 19:55Speaker 5: is going to work out or not until they're actually
- 19:57Speaker 5: in the building, so it's kind of hard to speculate.
- 20:00Speaker 6: But my biggest thing with Lane.
- 20:02Speaker 5: Kiffin is the same thing that everybody says about Brian Kelly,
- 20:05Speaker 5: about James Franklin, about you know, the typical ones where you're.
- 20:09Speaker 6: Like, they haven't won anything.
- 20:12Speaker 5: And I get that he's been there for what six
- 20:15Speaker 5: years now, six seven years since nineteen right or yeah,
- 20:21Speaker 5: so whatever, and then he hasn't. I'd get he has
- 20:25Speaker 5: them going right now, and he's built a good culture.
- 20:27Speaker 5: I don't see Lane wanting to leave what he's built
- 20:30Speaker 5: at ole Miss unless you're gonna pay him a contract
- 20:33Speaker 5: like you paid Brian Kelly or Jimbo Fisher, or maybe
- 20:39Speaker 5: even a little less than what you paid them. But
- 20:42Speaker 5: I just don't know if it's worth the money. And
- 20:45Speaker 5: I said, this is the okame my wildest dreams, and
- 20:48Speaker 5: I wouldn't even say particularly a dream, but I think
- 20:51Speaker 5: he's a good coach. With Steve Sarkisian and people lost
- 20:54Speaker 5: their minds about that, but are over here suggesting Lane
- 20:57Speaker 5: Kiffin when I feel like Stark turned that text this
- 21:00Speaker 5: program around.
- 21:00Speaker 4: Like two years Sark made the playoff, last year.
- 21:02Speaker 6: Won the conference.
- 21:03Speaker 5: He made back to back playoffs, won the conference championship,
- 21:06Speaker 5: and now was the Big twelve.
- 21:07Speaker 6: But he still did.
- 21:07Speaker 5: And I just think that there's a better argument for
- 21:12Speaker 5: other coaches than there is for Lane Kiffin.
- 21:15Speaker 3: Again, I think Lane's matured a lot as a coach.
- 21:19Speaker 3: But on Saturday, I understand it was a win. Some
- 21:23Speaker 3: of the decisions really confused me. He goes for it
- 21:25Speaker 3: on fourth down in his own territory up early in
- 21:28Speaker 3: the game, Oklahoma gets a big fourth down stop, they
- 21:31Speaker 3: go down the field score. That's giving up points to
- 21:33Speaker 3: your opponent. Trinidad Shambliss has been excellent, and credit to
- 21:36Speaker 3: Lane Kiffin for putting him in a position to succeed.
- 21:39Speaker 3: Nobody saw that coming from Shambless. But at the same time,
- 21:42Speaker 3: you pulled him out two different times and put in
- 21:45Speaker 3: Austin Simmons, who he's already beaten out inside the ten
- 21:49Speaker 3: yard line. You don't score a touchdown either time. I
- 21:51Speaker 3: mean that's potentially a double digit swing in that game. Yes,
- 21:54Speaker 3: they won the game, and look, I like Lane Kiffin.
- 21:57Speaker 3: If LSU hired Lane Kevin, would I be mad? Absolutely not.
- 22:01Speaker 3: I think Lane Kiffin's a good coach. But there are
- 22:05Speaker 3: so many people out there, and I understand every coach
- 22:07Speaker 3: you're going to hire, any one of them has some
- 22:10Speaker 3: sort of flaw. But there are a lot of people
- 22:12Speaker 3: out there that are like Lane Kiffin's a perfect hire.
- 22:14Speaker 3: He's a slam dunk. There's no such thing as a
- 22:16Speaker 3: sure thing and coaching hires or anywhere else in life.
- 22:20Speaker 4: I like Lane Kiffin. There's some other options out there.
- 22:23Speaker 3: But we just listened to the Jeff Landry sound by
- 22:26Speaker 3: last segment when he was talking about I don't want
- 22:29Speaker 3: Scott Woodward making this higher because I don't want to
- 22:32Speaker 3: give a huge ten year deal with guaranteed money. Well,
- 22:35Speaker 3: I got news for you. That's probably what it's going
- 22:37Speaker 3: to take to get Lane Kiffin here. So I'm not
- 22:39Speaker 3: sure Lane Kiffin is going to be the LSU coach
- 22:42Speaker 3: for better or worse. Maybe it's a good decision, maybe
- 22:44Speaker 3: it's not. It doesn't look like it's going.
- 22:46Speaker 4: To be him.
- 22:48Speaker 3: There's a lot of good candidates out there. Like if
- 22:50Speaker 3: you asked me, what do you look for in a candidate.
- 22:55Speaker 4: I want a.
- 22:56Speaker 3: Younger guy who could relate to the players, a fiery coach,
- 23:00Speaker 3: somebody who's hard knows, somebody who has a physical football team,
- 23:03Speaker 3: Somebody I know is going to come in here and
- 23:04Speaker 3: work his ass off, and someone who's had success at
- 23:07Speaker 3: the power level.
- 23:08Speaker 4: That's what I want.
- 23:10Speaker 3: There's a lot of names that fit that bill Like
- 23:13Speaker 3: first of am up and he was the guy I
- 23:15Speaker 3: think I brought up on Monday about like who I
- 23:18Speaker 3: wanted as my head coach. Brent Key from Georgia Tech.
- 23:20Speaker 3: He's been there four years now. His first year he
- 23:23Speaker 3: was four and four, but that program was a mess
- 23:25Speaker 3: when he took over.
- 23:26Speaker 4: Since then seven and six, seven and six.
- 23:29Speaker 3: This year, he's eight to no and barring some sort
- 23:31Speaker 3: of insane collapse, he's probably going to go to the
- 23:33Speaker 3: College Football Playoff and his team is ready to play
- 23:37Speaker 3: every single week. It's been one of my biggest criticisms
- 23:41Speaker 3: of Brian Kelly, especially in the opening games.
- 23:44Speaker 4: Take Clemson out of it.
- 23:45Speaker 3: But I mean, going back to that game, Clemson wasn't
- 23:48Speaker 3: really a good team looking back on it, but it
- 23:50Speaker 3: just seemed like every year until this past season opening game,
- 23:54Speaker 3: LSU was the less physical team and the less prepared team.
- 23:57Speaker 3: I can handle losing a game, because most of the
- 24:00Speaker 3: teams you lost to in the opener were pretty good teams.
- 24:02Speaker 3: I can handle losing a football to the game. What
- 24:04Speaker 3: I can't handle is doing the same thing over and
- 24:07Speaker 3: over and over again in big games, looking like the
- 24:09Speaker 3: less prepared team, looking like the less physical team. Two
- 24:12Speaker 3: things I can tell you about brink keem His teams
- 24:14Speaker 3: are prepared and they're physical as hell. The issue is
- 24:18Speaker 3: he's probably going to go to the college football playoff
- 24:20Speaker 3: and he's at his alma mater. When do you want
- 24:24Speaker 3: to hire a coach In a perfect world, just for me,
- 24:27Speaker 3: I want to coach by early signing period that's December third.
- 24:31Speaker 3: You don't necessarily have to do that, but in a
- 24:33Speaker 3: perfect world, that is what I would want. Briank He's
- 24:36Speaker 3: not going to leave in a playoff run. He's dang
- 24:39Speaker 3: sure not going to leave his alma mater out to
- 24:41Speaker 3: dry during a playoff run. A lot of people have
- 24:46Speaker 3: brought up the name John Sommrall love some are all.
- 24:49Speaker 3: He has a chance to get to the college football
- 24:50Speaker 3: playoffs like it or not, though there are people in
- 24:54Speaker 3: this state and affiliated with LSU that are going to
- 24:56Speaker 3: turn their nose up at that and say, you can't
- 24:58Speaker 3: hire the two lane football coach. It happened back in
- 25:01Speaker 3: twenty twenty two, right before you hired Brian Kelly. Billy
- 25:05Speaker 3: Napier was a hot name out there. Now woul Napier
- 25:07Speaker 3: have worked out, I don't know, because he didn't work
- 25:09Speaker 3: out at Florida.
- 25:10Speaker 4: Was that moral?
- 25:11Speaker 3: Napier was that more on Florida's athletic program that I
- 25:13Speaker 3: don't think is as good as most people make it
- 25:15Speaker 3: out to be. But either way, he was not brought
- 25:18Speaker 3: in for an interview. He was not really considered a
- 25:20Speaker 3: serious candidate, and most of the pushback was you can't
- 25:23Speaker 3: hire the ULL coach. Billy Napier may not be a
- 25:26Speaker 3: good coach. But the argument was never he's not a
- 25:29Speaker 3: good coach. The argument was he coaches a el up
- 25:32Speaker 3: John Somerral at two lane.
- 25:34Speaker 4: I think you're.
- 25:35Speaker 3: Gonna get something similar there, like look credit to somemr All.
- 25:38Speaker 3: A lot of people have said, okay, well he just
- 25:40Speaker 3: kind of maintained what Willy Fritz bought brought there.
- 25:44Speaker 4: I understand that a little bit.
- 25:45Speaker 3: But he was twelve and two and eleven and two
- 25:48Speaker 3: his two seasons at Troy, So you could say Willy
- 25:51Speaker 3: Fritz built up that program. But John Somerl's done it
- 25:54Speaker 3: in two different stops. He lost four games and two
- 25:58Speaker 3: years at Troy. He's been at two lane and this
- 26:00Speaker 3: is his second year. He was nine to five a
- 26:01Speaker 3: year ago. He's six and one and he's got them
- 26:03Speaker 3: possibly battling for college football playoff appearance. There's a lot
- 26:08Speaker 3: of people out there that are going to turn their
- 26:10Speaker 3: nose up at that because of the fact that he
- 26:11Speaker 3: could coaches at two lane.
- 26:12Speaker 4: Should you do that? No, will le Be take it
- 26:14Speaker 4: into consideration. Probably.
- 26:19Speaker 3: Now Ryan Silverfield at Memphis is out there, But does
- 26:23Speaker 3: he suffer from the same thing John Sombral does of
- 26:25Speaker 3: maybe it's not a big enough program. You look at
- 26:28Speaker 3: Ryan Silverfield and what he's done at Memphis. There's a
- 26:31Speaker 3: reason Virginia Tech is interested in him. There's a reason
- 26:33Speaker 3: a number of other programs are interested in him. He's
- 26:36Speaker 3: forty nine and twenty one in six years at Memphis,
- 26:40Speaker 3: has never had a losing season in his four and
- 26:42Speaker 3: zero and bowl games, and right now he's seven and one.
- 26:45Speaker 3: That's the heck of a football coach. He's a young guy,
- 26:48Speaker 3: he's a fiery guy. He did a great job in
- 26:49Speaker 3: the transfer portal. We talked about it when we were
- 26:52Speaker 3: ranking our preseason OTB top twenty five that I mean,
- 26:55Speaker 3: we put the Memphis Tigers in there, and rightfully so,
- 26:57Speaker 3: he did a great job in the portal.
- 26:59Speaker 4: So that's a guy you know can attack it.
- 27:02Speaker 3: But does he suffer from the same thing that some
- 27:04Speaker 3: are auld does the It's two names I want to
- 27:07Speaker 3: look at, one of which is the name that gets
- 27:09Speaker 3: brought up a Lot's Kenny Dillingham. Because again, if I'm
- 27:11Speaker 3: putting together, in a perfect world, what I want from
- 27:14Speaker 3: my coach, a younger guy that can relate to the players,
- 27:16Speaker 3: a passionate guy, a guy that's gonna work hard, a
- 27:19Speaker 3: guy that has a physical football team. And in a
- 27:22Speaker 3: perfect world, it's somebody that could sign by December third
- 27:25Speaker 3: and be here for early signing period. Kenny dilly dam
- 27:27Speaker 3: checks all his boxes because right now, barring something unforeseen,
- 27:32Speaker 3: they are not going to be in the College football
- 27:34Speaker 3: Playoff over there at Arizona State made it last year
- 27:37Speaker 3: almost beat Texas, probably should have beat Texas. Now, if
- 27:40Speaker 3: you want to criticize him, you can go look and say, yeah,
- 27:42Speaker 3: he's only been there for three years. He popped last year,
- 27:45Speaker 3: kind of came back down to earth a little bit
- 27:47Speaker 3: this year.
- 27:47Speaker 4: Two things. One, they lost a ton of guys from
- 27:49Speaker 4: that team. Two and two.
- 27:51Speaker 3: Of two of their three losses this year, Sam Levitt
- 27:55Speaker 3: was not fully healthy. One he played hurt. One he
- 27:57Speaker 3: didn't play at all. So two of your three losses
- 27:59Speaker 3: you were basically without your starting quarterback. That's a tough
- 28:02Speaker 3: recipe for success for anyone. Look, three and nine is
- 28:05Speaker 3: first season, but Herm Edwards left that program at shambles
- 28:09Speaker 3: last year eleven and three, this year five and three,
- 28:11Speaker 3: but again quarterback in and out of the lineup. Kenny
- 28:14Speaker 3: Dillingham's a guy alike, and you can get him before
- 28:16Speaker 3: early signing period. Look, that's just my preference. Don't say,
- 28:20Speaker 3: why don't we have to have a guy before early
- 28:22Speaker 3: signed period?
- 28:22Speaker 9: You don't.
- 28:23Speaker 4: That's just my personal preference.
- 28:24Speaker 3: If you want to wait for your guy because you
- 28:26Speaker 3: think he's the right higher, fine, I'm good with it.
- 28:28Speaker 3: You just better land the guy you're waiting on him.
- 28:31Speaker 3: But also, Matt Campbell is a name that I don't
- 28:33Speaker 3: think it's brought up enough. Forty five years old. Matt
- 28:36Speaker 3: Campbell has been a head coach in college for fifteen
- 28:39Speaker 3: years between Toledo and Iowa State.
- 28:43Speaker 4: He's two losing seasons in fifteen years.
- 28:46Speaker 3: He just won eleven games last year, the only time
- 28:48Speaker 3: in Iowa State history that program has won eleven games,
- 28:51Speaker 3: and they were rolling the first four weeks of the season.
- 28:54Speaker 4: They lost their two starting corners.
- 28:56Speaker 3: They're now five and three, but they're still a scrappy
- 28:58Speaker 3: football team, not going to make the college football playoff either.
- 29:02Speaker 3: There are names out there to look at, like Elandra.
- 29:05Speaker 3: Before we go to break, you mentioned your concerns with Kiffen,
- 29:09Speaker 3: and obviously it doesn't look like it's going to be
- 29:11Speaker 3: Landing or Kiffin because they don't want to pay the
- 29:12Speaker 3: big money that came straight from Governor Landry.
- 29:16Speaker 2: Who do you like?
- 29:19Speaker 5: I really, I don't have somebody that I'm like, this
- 29:22Speaker 5: is who I want to be the next head coach
- 29:25Speaker 5: at LSU.
- 29:25Speaker 6: Like the ones that I do want, I.
- 29:27Speaker 5: Feel like either wouldn't come here because they're at the
- 29:30Speaker 5: school that they like.
- 29:31Speaker 6: Brin Key.
- 29:32Speaker 5: I love brin Key. I'm not sure he's gonna leave
- 29:35Speaker 5: his alma Water. Same thing with Kenny Dillingham.
- 29:38Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 29:40Speaker 5: I think I like him, I think he's good. I
- 29:41Speaker 5: just don't know if that he would leave Arizona State.
- 29:45Speaker 5: I really don't have like an answer for you as
- 29:48Speaker 5: to who I would want to be because I just
- 29:52Speaker 5: with who's out there.
- 29:54Speaker 6: It's hard for me to choose on one. But if
- 29:57Speaker 6: I had to say, Brian Key is the one.
- 29:59Speaker 3: That I would like, that's the guy, like if if
- 30:02Speaker 3: I'm in charge of this search and.
- 30:04Speaker 6: Who knows Texas Hainesaw massacre, like he is a dog.
- 30:10Speaker 3: They're always ready to play. It's something unless you was
- 30:13Speaker 3: lacked the last four years. You're not a physical team,
- 30:14Speaker 3: you're not ready to play. Look, there's a lot of
- 30:16Speaker 3: good candidates out there. So I've seen a lot of
- 30:18Speaker 3: people freak out and say, we're not going to get
- 30:20Speaker 3: a big name. Jeff Landry doesn't want to give a
- 30:22Speaker 3: ten year deal. He doesn't want to give it a
- 30:23Speaker 3: big contract. Guys, just because a coach is not a
- 30:26Speaker 3: quote unquote big name, does not mean they're not a
- 30:28Speaker 3: good coach. Less Miles wasn't a huge name. Nick Saban
- 30:31Speaker 3: had a huge name. Hell Ed Orgeron was your interim
- 30:33Speaker 3: head coach at best your third option because you struck
- 30:36Speaker 3: out on Jimbo Fisher and Tom Herman, and he worked
- 30:39Speaker 3: out better than both of those guys and brought you
- 30:41Speaker 3: a national championship hand up. I didn't want it, or
- 30:43Speaker 3: as you're on as the coach. I thought you were
- 30:44Speaker 3: better than to hire your interim coach. But you know what,
- 30:47Speaker 3: it worked out. Sometimes the best fit doesn't always have
- 30:49Speaker 3: to be the big name real quick.
- 30:52Speaker 5: Someone that Matt has brought up a lot that I
- 30:54Speaker 5: actually would be a fan of. Two just had a
- 30:56Speaker 5: big upset win over Miami Jeff rom Over at Louisville.
- 31:01Speaker 5: I like that one too.
- 31:02Speaker 3: But then yeah, Alma Mater, Like okay, I didn't know that,
- 31:06Speaker 3: So why like dumb for me not to no.
- 31:09Speaker 4: No, no no.
- 31:10Speaker 3: But I mean he's not going to go to the playoff. Yeah,
- 31:12Speaker 3: like like a brand key, So he's more gettable when
- 31:14Speaker 3: I look at Dillingham. Dillingham went to Arizona State. He
- 31:17Speaker 3: did not play at Arizona State. Maybe that matters a
- 31:20Speaker 3: little bit more.
- 31:21Speaker 4: Now, I will say.
- 31:22Speaker 3: This, if you offer brin Key, Jeff Brohm, Kenny Dillingham
- 31:26Speaker 3: the job and they don't want to leave where they're
- 31:27Speaker 3: at to come to LSU and potentially win a national championship,
- 31:30Speaker 3: then you have your answer because they're not the right
- 31:32Speaker 3: guy for the job anyways. If they don't want to
- 31:34Speaker 3: come here and they're not ready to come here and
- 31:36Speaker 3: try to win a national championship, then they weren't right anyways.
- 31:38Speaker 3: Move on because that gives you your answer right there on.
- 31:42Speaker 3: Is this person fit to be the head coach? No,
- 31:44Speaker 3: because no offense to those schools. If you can't decide
- 31:46Speaker 3: between Louisville and LSU, you're not ready to be LSU's
- 31:49Speaker 3: head coach. Same can go for Arizona State, same can
- 31:51Speaker 3: go for Georgia Tech. So your answers there. Everybody relaxed,
- 31:56Speaker 3: be calm. There's a lot of good candidates out there,
- 31:59Speaker 3: and my confidence going to hire the right one. After
- 32:01Speaker 3: Jeff Andry's comments, I don't know. It would be a
- 32:04Speaker 3: lot easier if we actually knew who was making this higher.
- 32:07Speaker 3: Unfortunately we do not. Just be patient. We'll see where
- 32:09Speaker 3: the chips fall, all right, We'll take a quick time
- 32:11Speaker 3: out when we get back our guy. Chris Marler on
- 32:14Speaker 3: Monday put out his week ten SEC Power rankings we're
- 32:18Speaker 3: looking at it and Marler, being a Bama guy, I'm
- 32:21Speaker 3: surprised he didn't do this. I got a disagreement with
- 32:23Speaker 3: our guy. We'll get into it next hearing. Off the bench,
- 32:26Speaker 3: Off the bench, all right, go.
- 32:29Speaker 8: To All Star toy if Venderies dot Com, buy new
- 32:32Speaker 8: leasing renting. Everything's always available for you. And if you
- 32:36Speaker 8: want to go check out what they have on the lot,
- 32:39Speaker 8: it's going to be something that's going to meet your needs.
- 32:42Speaker 8: Multiple mid sized subs, multiple trucks, van sedan, hybrid, you
- 32:47Speaker 8: name it. They've got it and they have it in
- 32:49Speaker 8: everything that they do. Fine new leasing renting, per day
- 32:54Speaker 8: rental prices as well. So if you've got a trip
- 32:56Speaker 8: coming up for the holidays and you want to get
- 32:58Speaker 8: ahead of it Thanksgiving, Chris, this New Year's whatever it
- 33:01Speaker 8: might be, and you want to maybe save miles on
- 33:04Speaker 8: your vehicle. Maybe you need something bigger, maybe you want
- 33:06Speaker 8: something smaller, whatever it might be.
- 33:07Speaker 2: All Star Toyo Batteries dot Com.
- 33:09Speaker 9: Yeah, you ever give it one of those gifts you've
- 33:10Speaker 9: seen on the commercials with that big old red bow
- 33:13Speaker 9: on the hood of a car.
- 33:14Speaker 4: Yeah, that'd be pretty nice little Christmas gift.
- 33:16Speaker 9: Think about it, think about it, maybe go check it out,
- 33:18Speaker 9: Maybe go talk to them about it over there at all,
- 33:20Speaker 9: start Toyota of Baton Rouge on the airline near Goodwood.
- 33:24Speaker 9: Go check them out, go to the website, see everything
- 33:26Speaker 9: that they got on the lot. Right there, I'll start
- 33:27Speaker 9: Toyota at Betrouge dot com.
- 33:32Speaker 2: And then.
- 33:50Speaker 1: Two thousand and seven shamps Purple and Gold to the core.
- 33:53Speaker 1: This is Off the Bench with Hester and Flynn Baton
- 33:57Speaker 1: Rougees go to for all things Louisiana's.
- 34:07Speaker 3: Welcome back in hour number one here on a Thursday
- 34:10Speaker 3: edition of Off the Bench, Tayler shower with you alongside
- 34:13Speaker 3: of Lauandravill Rial, Jacob Hesser and Matt Fleann will be
- 34:17Speaker 3: back in the eight o'clock hours, so they'll be here
- 34:19Speaker 3: for the last two hours of the show.
- 34:20Speaker 4: But we are hanging out here with you.
- 34:22Speaker 3: Got about twenty or so minutes until the boys join
- 34:24Speaker 3: us back in the studio. Our own Chris Marler at
- 34:29Speaker 3: Louisianasports dot Net put out his week ten SEC power rankings.
- 34:33Speaker 3: A lot to like there, like he puts LSU at ten.
- 34:36Speaker 3: Love you, Chris. That might be a little bit too generous, obviously,
- 34:39Speaker 3: Kentucky's at the bottom because well Kentucky sucks.
- 34:42Speaker 4: But I want to talk about the teams at the top.
- 34:46Speaker 3: His top four, Vanderbilt, Ole, Mess, Alabama, Texas A and M.
- 34:51Speaker 3: No problems there. That's clearly the top four. Texas A
- 34:55Speaker 3: and M should not be over Alabama. And Chris is
- 34:58Speaker 3: in Alabama fans, I'm a little surprised he did this,
- 35:00Speaker 3: but Texas A and M is a good team. I
- 35:02Speaker 3: am not gonna be one of those fans that's gonna
- 35:04Speaker 3: come in and try to discredit off and say, my
- 35:06Speaker 3: team didn't do anything wrong, but your team's not better
- 35:09Speaker 3: than us.
- 35:09Speaker 5: Now.
- 35:09Speaker 3: They came out and beat the crap at LSU at
- 35:11Speaker 3: the second half. I've done it two years in a row.
- 35:13Speaker 3: That's a good football team. We talked about it a
- 35:16Speaker 3: little bit going into that game. Their lack of playing
- 35:18Speaker 3: in the big games.
- 35:19Speaker 6: Now.
- 35:19Speaker 3: They beat Notre Dame early in the year, but outside
- 35:21Speaker 3: of that, their schedule has been a little light and
- 35:24Speaker 3: it will continue that way down the stretch. Unfortunately. I
- 35:29Speaker 3: think the Alabama Crimson Tide are the best team in
- 35:31Speaker 3: the SEC. And I gonna be honest right now, it's not.
- 35:33Speaker 4: Close for me.
- 35:35Speaker 3: Alabama's beaten four ranked SEC teams Georgia, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Missouri.
- 35:42Speaker 3: Those teams are a combined twenty five and two against
- 35:45Speaker 3: teams not named Alabama. The only two losses Tennessee lost
- 35:49Speaker 3: straight up to Georgia, Missouri laws straight up to Vanderbilt.
- 35:53Speaker 3: I mean, what are we doing here? This team is
- 35:55Speaker 3: dominant coming into the year.
- 35:57Speaker 4: What did we said? Well, if they're gonna struggle at quarterback, because.
- 36:00Speaker 3: Ty Simpson's never done it, Ty Simpson looks like potentially
- 36:03Speaker 3: the best quarterback in the country. Oh, they don't have
- 36:06Speaker 3: any weapons outside of Ryan Williams. I got news for you, guys.
- 36:09Speaker 3: Ryan Williams not the best receiver on this Alabama team,
- 36:12Speaker 3: at least not this year. It's Jeremy Bernard. If you
- 36:15Speaker 3: haven't watched Alabama, a ton, get used to the name.
- 36:17Speaker 3: He's number five. They line him up in a number
- 36:19Speaker 3: of spots. You can do just about anything on that team.
- 36:21Speaker 3: He is a weapon, a big time weapon. And he
- 36:25Speaker 3: got jam Miller in the backfield. But even when jam
- 36:27Speaker 3: Miller went down with an injury, you're.
- 36:30Speaker 4: Number two, you're number three.
- 36:31Speaker 3: They stepped up against a good Vanderbilt team, against a
- 36:34Speaker 3: good Missouri team, and they gave you some tough yards
- 36:37Speaker 3: because they have a good offensive line players on defense.
- 36:40Speaker 3: Pierre's had a really good year. Justin Jefferson, not that
- 36:44Speaker 3: Justin Jefferson, different one. He's having a really good season
- 36:46Speaker 3: over there at lineback. Unfortunately, I don't think alabama'sun going anywhere.
- 36:51Speaker 3: Look hand up coming into the year, I thought they
- 36:53Speaker 3: were hell. When it was my turn to rank during
- 36:56Speaker 3: the OTB Top twenty five, I put Alabama at twelve,
- 36:59Speaker 3: and I was like, I don't know, this is probably right.
- 37:01Speaker 3: They're probably the fourth or fifth best team in the SEC.
- 37:04Speaker 3: Now they're the best team in the SEC until proven otherwise.
- 37:07Speaker 3: I understand they have a loss on the record in Texas.
- 37:09Speaker 4: A and M.
- 37:10Speaker 3: Doesn't That is not the same Alabama team that played
- 37:12Speaker 3: Florida State. I don't know what happened in that game.
- 37:15Speaker 3: Maybe Alabama didn't take it serious, Florida State did. Those
- 37:18Speaker 3: two teams have trended in completely different directions since Florida
- 37:22Speaker 3: State won that game in Alabama lost it. I think
- 37:24Speaker 3: Alabama is the best team in the SEC. You know,
- 37:27Speaker 3: I talked about it a little bit going into that
- 37:29Speaker 3: A and M game. Marcel Reidd kind of struggled against
- 37:33Speaker 3: quote unquote good defenses. I mean, on the year, he's
- 37:36Speaker 3: sixty one seventeen touchdowns, six picks, decent numbers.
- 37:40Speaker 4: But when you keep.
- 37:41Speaker 3: Marcell Reid in the pocket, he struggles to throw the
- 37:43Speaker 3: football downfield. He actually struggled to throw the football downfield
- 37:46Speaker 3: against Lshue when they kept him in the pocket. But
- 37:49Speaker 3: for better or worse, like Baker is always going to
- 37:51Speaker 3: be aggressive on defense, he blitz him. He gets outside
- 37:54Speaker 3: the pocket, he takes off and run. He's done two
- 37:56Speaker 3: years in a row now. But if you leave Marcel
- 37:58Speaker 3: Reid in the pocket and forced him to throw the football,
- 38:00Speaker 3: Notre Dame did this. He completed forty nine percent of
- 38:02Speaker 3: his passes. Now give him credit. He made the big
- 38:05Speaker 3: time throws at the end of the game to win
- 38:07Speaker 3: the game. But play in and play out, he struggles
- 38:10Speaker 3: with his accuracy from inside the pocket. Ty Simpson, on
- 38:13Speaker 3: the other hand, does not. First off, he runs a
- 38:16Speaker 3: little bit better, actually a lot better than people give
- 38:18Speaker 3: him credit for.
- 38:19Speaker 4: But also.
- 38:22Speaker 3: Almost eighty percent completion this year, sixty seven point eight
- 38:25Speaker 3: twenty touchdowns, just one interception. There's not a more efficient
- 38:29Speaker 3: quarterback in the SEC right now than Ty Simpson and
- 38:31Speaker 3: he's got weapons.
- 38:32Speaker 4: I mentioned Jeremy Bernard. We know about Ryan Williams.
- 38:35Speaker 3: Isaiah Horton did a really good job getting him out
- 38:38Speaker 3: of the transfer portal. He's been a big time player
- 38:40Speaker 3: for this Alabama offense, unfortunately, has a lot of weapons.
- 38:43Speaker 3: They have a really good quarterback, and they're gonna be
- 38:45Speaker 3: a tough out.
- 38:46Speaker 4: Now.
- 38:46Speaker 3: Look, we're gonna break down Bama a little bit more
- 38:48Speaker 3: obviously next week, as next week is LSU Alabama week.
- 38:51Speaker 3: But when I look at this team, I just I
- 38:54Speaker 3: see a complete football team right now that can obviously change.
- 38:57Speaker 4: There's ebs and flows in every football season.
- 38:59Speaker 3: I mean, many people were laughing at Alabama Week one
- 39:01Speaker 3: after losing to Florida State. I get it, but that's
- 39:04Speaker 3: not the same Alabama team then lost to Florida State.
- 39:08Speaker 3: A laund your best team in the SEC who you got?
- 39:13Speaker 3: So I can go either way on it.
- 39:15Speaker 5: This just like really pains me to say this because
- 39:18Speaker 5: we all know I'm not.
- 39:22Speaker 6: I'm like number one Aggie hater.
- 39:24Speaker 4: Well I thought you, I thought you grew up in
- 39:25Speaker 4: Texas A and m FAI.
- 39:26Speaker 5: For sure, I can see what you mean with Alabama,
- 39:32Speaker 5: and I do think that Tyson Simpson is probably. I mean,
- 39:34Speaker 5: there's a Tisman campaign right out there going on right now.
- 39:38Speaker 5: He's certainly at the top of the Heisman running right now.
- 39:41Speaker 5: But I'm gonna have to say, I'm gonna have to
- 39:45Speaker 5: say Texas A and M just off of the strength
- 39:47Speaker 5: to record strength the schedule. I know they have a
- 39:50Speaker 5: really easy one coming up, but I feel like the
- 39:53Speaker 5: teams that they needed to dominate, aside from maybe Arkansas,
- 39:56Speaker 5: they dominated them.
- 39:58Speaker 6: And I just don't feel the same Forbama except.
- 40:01Speaker 5: For the Tennessee game maybe, And I can't think of
- 40:05Speaker 5: another one where I was like, okay, like they are
- 40:08Speaker 5: completely over here, taking over this field doing this.
- 40:11Speaker 6: But I'm with you.
- 40:12Speaker 5: I can go either way on the two, but I
- 40:14Speaker 5: just think it's Texas A and M up to this point.
- 40:17Speaker 3: Look, I can go either way. That Alabama Georgia game
- 40:20Speaker 3: that was those a little telling for me. They they
- 40:22Speaker 3: handled Georgia. That game was not as close as the
- 40:24Speaker 3: score should But look it, we're gonna see this Alabama.
- 40:28Speaker 6: Stage went Alabama Georgia, Alabama Georgia.
- 40:30Speaker 3: Yeah, we're gonna see this Alabama team up close. Okay,
- 40:33Speaker 3: let me ask you this before we get a break
- 40:34Speaker 3: z LSU get the interim bump next week? Early prediction.
- 40:38Speaker 3: Do they get the interim bump.
- 40:42Speaker 6: I'm gonna be positive and say yes.
- 40:44Speaker 4: Ok, I'm gonna say yes.
- 40:47Speaker 5: Also, our guys are out there. They are, Matt and
- 40:50Speaker 5: Jake are out there. I already know they're pumping them up.
- 40:54Speaker 3: Depends on if if it's a good word day for
- 40:56Speaker 3: Flinn or not. It could help or hurt them. Find
- 40:59Speaker 3: Jake will be fine. I got mad. We worry about
- 41:01Speaker 3: him at times. Do they get the interim bump. Yeah,
- 41:04Speaker 3: they'll play inspired, They'll they'll be physical.
- 41:06Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 41:06Speaker 4: Do they win the game?
- 41:07Speaker 5: I mean, after that Pearl Harbor speech that Frank Wilson
- 41:10Speaker 5: gave the other day, how can you not be so perfect?
- 41:13Speaker 3: Sirens sound like? Okay, Frank, Yeah he really did teach
- 41:17Speaker 3: me that.
- 41:17Speaker 4: Really, I'm not. I'm not on the team.
- 41:20Speaker 3: I don't I don't care if you teach me excess
- 41:21Speaker 3: and teach me the sirens sound.
- 41:23Speaker 4: I want it all right. Look, we're gonna take a
- 41:24Speaker 4: quick time out. We get back.
- 41:26Speaker 3: We'll wrap up our number one as we await the
- 41:29Speaker 3: return of Jacob Pesser and Matt Flinn to the studio.
- 41:32Speaker 3: A big name in the coaching circles has thrown his
- 41:35Speaker 3: name into the ring for the LSU head coaching job.
- 41:37Speaker 4: We'll break it down next. You're on off the bench.
- 41:40Speaker 4: Off the bench, al right.
- 41:42Speaker 8: Go to trash rangers dot com and when you go
- 41:45Speaker 8: to the website, you can sign up for residential commercial service.
- 41:49Speaker 8: You also can check out the different size roll off
- 41:52Speaker 8: dumpsters that we tell you about all the time. And
- 41:54Speaker 8: if you're not quite sure what your project needs, which
- 41:57Speaker 8: size your project needs, give a call two to five
- 41:59Speaker 8: six two two four seven seven, have that conversation with
- 42:02Speaker 8: tell them what you got going on, and they're gonna
- 42:04Speaker 8: make sure you have the right size every time.
- 42:06Speaker 4: And again.
- 42:06Speaker 8: You can do all that on the website as well
- 42:08Speaker 8: as far as signing up for their services. Check out
- 42:11Speaker 8: the area that they do actually service as well. Trash
- 42:15Speaker 8: rangers dot com.
- 42:15Speaker 9: That's right, I'm seeing these red roll up dumpsters all
- 42:18Speaker 9: over the place right now, everywhere. So if you got
- 42:21Speaker 9: a project, if you have something happening, you know, you
- 42:23Speaker 9: start getting out those Christmas decorations. You start seeing things
- 42:26Speaker 9: in the attic that you might not need anymore. If
- 42:28Speaker 9: you need to do a little cleaning, lighting the load
- 42:31Speaker 9: a little bit in the attic man, give them a call.
- 42:32Speaker 9: They have three different sizes of rolloff dumpsters right there
- 42:35Speaker 9: to choose from. So trash Rangers, Reliable Ways, Sanitates the
- 42:39Speaker 9: services in South Louisiana, trash Rangers dot Com.
- 42:55Speaker 6: I'm so, but you won't.
- 43:03Speaker 1: Locked in on LSU Football twenty four to seven. You're
- 43:06Speaker 1: listening to Off the Bench.
- 43:10Speaker 4: Welcome back in Off the Bench? What I for five?
- 43:13Speaker 3: Yes, being bed Rouge Taylor show up and Landra villar
- 43:15Speaker 3: Rial doing Howard number one from the producer chairs.
- 43:18Speaker 4: We really can do it all.
- 43:20Speaker 3: I mean, if you ever want to know who the
- 43:21Speaker 3: backbone of the show is, it's not those two slappies
- 43:24Speaker 3: that sit up there. It's us back here. We are
- 43:26Speaker 3: managing just fine without those guys. But in all seriousness,
- 43:30Speaker 3: I saw somebody your earlier asked where they were. They're
- 43:32Speaker 3: going to speak to the LSU football team this morning.
- 43:34Speaker 4: They had to do that. I think that's important enough
- 43:37Speaker 4: to miss this show.
- 43:38Speaker 3: I think this is a very pivotal time for this
- 43:41Speaker 3: LSU football program. So shout out to those guys for
- 43:44Speaker 3: going to do that. They'll be back at eight o'clock
- 43:46Speaker 3: supposedly we'll see.
- 43:48Speaker 5: Okay, it's gett mighty close to am.
- 43:51Speaker 4: Odds are odds of them coming back at eight o'clock?
- 43:53Speaker 4: What you got?
- 43:57Speaker 3: I think it's plus right because I asked yesterday after
- 44:01Speaker 3: Jake was like, hey, we're gonna be back at seven.
- 44:04Speaker 3: My first response was, are you still dressing up?
- 44:08Speaker 4: Because you guys aren't gonna be dressed up at LSU.
- 44:10Speaker 6: Can you imagine?
- 44:11Speaker 3: But you're not gonna be speaking to the team dressed
- 44:13Speaker 3: like a skeleton. And then Flynn goes, no, we'll do
- 44:16Speaker 3: a quick change.
- 44:17Speaker 4: So not only do they have.
- 44:18Speaker 3: To leave LSU, they have to get over here, do
- 44:19Speaker 3: a quick change, then be back for eight o'clock. It's
- 44:22Speaker 3: seven to fifty three. Guys, I don't see it happening.
- 44:24Speaker 3: I do not see it happening. A couple other things
- 44:29Speaker 3: I don't see happening. Landra big name was thrown out there,
- 44:33Speaker 3: put his hat in the ring. National Championship head coach, Okay,
- 44:39Speaker 3: can I interest you in Samata what you're on?
- 44:42Speaker 5: Maybe in like an analyst role or recruiting or maybe
- 44:45Speaker 5: you know what, strength and conditioning.
- 44:48Speaker 6: I wouldn't be opposed to that, but as a head coach,
- 44:52Speaker 6: I'm good.
- 44:53Speaker 4: You know what's weird?
- 44:54Speaker 6: We did that experiment. I think I'm good on it right.
- 44:58Speaker 4: And it ran it's course, like thanks for he brought.
- 45:01Speaker 5: How it all went down at the like I feel
- 45:03Speaker 5: like with him and Tommy Moffatt, who I love, and
- 45:05Speaker 5: I think he's doing a great job at.
- 45:07Speaker 6: Texas A and M.
- 45:08Speaker 5: I think we're doing a little bit of revisionist history
- 45:10Speaker 5: with both of those.
- 45:11Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 45:11Speaker 4: No, and I appreciate you bringing that up.
- 45:13Speaker 3: Look, everybody that played for Tommy Moffatt said that's his
- 45:18Speaker 3: favorite coach.
- 45:18Speaker 4: I thought he got a little stale here.
- 45:20Speaker 3: Not necessarily bad, but I mean I just I thought
- 45:22Speaker 3: he got a little stale here and.
- 45:23Speaker 6: He through a health thing, so I get it.
- 45:27Speaker 5: And he found a spark at A and M and
- 45:29Speaker 5: it's back and I would love if he wants.
- 45:31Speaker 6: To come here. I would love that.
- 45:32Speaker 3: And then the coaches for getting a little bit. And
- 45:35Speaker 3: it wasn't just him, like Cheran didn't have a spark
- 45:38Speaker 3: like nobody on that staff did. And you could say, okay,
