- 0:02podcast. Woo woo Hoo.
- 0:06Nice. Welcome in all the Bank
- 0:09Management, the Fantasy Hockey Podcast with your favorite host
- 0:13Jake, Josh and Kevin. How are you all doing headed
- 0:17into this week too? Honestly, I'm buzzing.
- 0:20I am so excited this season is finally here.
- 0:22I'm so excited we finally get to talk about waivers.
- 0:25Waivers is always like a beautiful time of the year by
- 0:28year. I mean also every week because
- 0:31it's just I'm always looking to improve my team so my my watch.
- 0:36This is always like 3030 players deep, so I'm a little crazy.
- 0:39Yeah, same. I mean, especially at the
- 0:41beginning of the season, I whittled it down overtime, but
- 0:44it definitely beginning of the season.
- 0:45Anyone who remotely sparks my interest, I'm like watchlist,
- 0:48watchlist. So yeah, now I'm very excited to
- 0:51be talking a Week 2 streamers and excited to dive into the
- 0:54season. Yeah, it's a big one.
- 0:56It's gonna be really fun, and especially we mentioned this on
- 1:00the mailbag episode, but this early on there's a lot of
- 1:03opportunity for value. You get some really fun guys
- 1:05that can help you for this week and the rest of the season.
- 1:07So we'll be talking about all of that before we begin.

- 1:29throughout the season, so we would love to see all of you
- 1:31there. You know, we're always on there.
- 1:34Help us help you. Help us help you.
- 1:40Yeah. So yeah, let's give a quick
- 1:42explanation so for how we're going to do this waivers episode
- 1:45and then we'll dive into some big names for this coming week.
- 1:49Yep. So waivers is always fun and
- 1:51last year I feel like we kind of mentioned just a lot of names
- 1:54and maybe not all of them were always useful.
- 1:57So this year we're kind of trying to keep it concise.
- 2:00These are names that we actually want on our teams that we
- 2:02actually consider picking up. We're only considering guys that
- 2:05are less than 40% owned. So we're not gonna recommend the
- 2:08guys that are already like 5070% only because those guys are
- 2:10probably not rostered, like not on waivers in your leagues.
- 2:14We're doing a mix of, you know, three-game guys that we think
- 2:16are really good four-game guys to optimize the calendar and
- 2:20your lineups, A mix of both. We're gonna talk about the
- 2:22deployment, why we like them and what you should be streaming
- 2:26them for. We're gonna do points guys,
- 2:28we're gonna do bangers guys, we're gonna do goalies.
- 2:30We're going to cover all of it, so stay tuned.
- 2:33Anything you could ever dream of, we will talk about.
- 2:36Off nights like full nights, like obviously the schedule in
- 2:39in week 1 and Week 2 is kind of weird because like all the teams
- 2:42play on like 2 separate days, so it's kind of hard to fit people
- 2:45into your lineups. And you're still also trying to
- 2:48bolster your team with good quality players that weren't
- 2:52drafted. So we're going to talk about all
- 2:54of. That, yeah, I think as the
- 2:56season goes on, it's going to be more about optimizing the weekly
- 2:59lineup in terms of off nights, in terms of four-game teams.
- 3:02But now it's going to be a mix of bats, but also guys who we
- 3:05see are under owned and just should be owned in every league.
- 3:07So it's gonna be a bit of a mix of both.
- 3:09And in the fashion of our offseason content, everything
- 3:14must be a top 10. So we will be doing a top 10 for
- 3:19points guys, and then we'll be sprinkling in some bangers and
- 3:22some goalies as well. Outside of the top 10.
- 3:25So a lot of a lot of things are to be mentioned today.
- 3:27And let's get started with #10. All right, at #10 we've got Ivan
- 3:33Barbashev of the Vegas Golden Knights playing line One, Power
- 3:36play 2. Yeah, I think the main thing
- 3:39with Barbashev is you're getting exposure to Jack Eichel and that
- 3:42top line. You would love for him to be on
- 3:44that Power Play 1. I don't think it's gonna happen,
- 3:47but still P2 and the exposure to Jack Eichel and Barbershop and
- 3:52Barbershop is known to like be a category kind of guy where he
- 3:56can hit, he can hit as well. So that's why I think I like him
- 3:59in this ten spot. Very streaky though, so if you
- 4:02do pick him up for this week and he pops off, I would even
- 4:04consider selling him cause he if if he is playing with both
- 4:07Michael and Marner, it's a lot of perceived value there.
- 4:10Nevertheless, yeah, for this week, he's definitely good to
- 4:12grab off your waivers. Yeah, we're all going streaking
- 4:15on the quad. All right #9.
- 4:22At #9 we've got it's turbo time. Toyo Teravainen, Line 2 power
- 4:27play, one on the Chicago Blackhawks, 4 game week with two
- 4:31plus off nights. 0 peripherals but very good for points.
- 4:36Yeah, have two points in his first game.
- 4:38Yeah, he can be like a 65 to like maybe 6065 point guy, which
- 4:43you're happy to have on your squad.
- 4:44You'll be frustrated with the back categories, but for a
- 4:47four-game week like this week, you could do worse.
- 4:50I think just you're getting exposure to the top end assets
- 4:53on this Chicago team and like we've talked about it in the off
- 4:56season, like they have just a bunch of wingers that are kind
- 4:59of mediocre. Next to Bedard, he looks like he
- 5:02might be the one that maybe has the highest value.
- 5:04So I would take a shot on him in a four-game week, all right?
- 5:07Yep #8. At #8 We've got Jake Debrusk of
- 5:12the Vancouver Canucks line one power play 1.
- 5:15I like the Braska lot this year. He has averaged last year two
- 5:19shots and a hit, which is decent for for bangers leagues.
- 5:23But that line one power play 1 exposure last year he was bumped
- 5:26on and off of power play one. With Miller leaving and other
- 5:30moves in the off season, I think he's pretty much cemented his
- 5:32spot on that line on power play one.
- 5:34If Elias Pettersson bounces back at all, the brush is going to be
- 5:36right there for the ride. So I like him a lot as a low
- 5:39owned guy who could have a lot of upside and he's got a
- 5:41four-game week with two off nights.
- 5:43Yeah, and he's left wing, right wing eligible, so he can squeak
- 5:46into your lineups pretty easily. He's kind of similar to Brock
- 5:49Besser, who is a little bit more highly owned.
- 5:50Like he's around 45 to 50% owned.
- 5:53Like I like both of them playing on the wings of Elias
- 5:54Pettersson. The deployment is great.
- 5:56I really like him this week. At #7 I think this is the only
- 6:01defenseman on this list, so we'll work on that for next time
- 6:05to have more deep for you guys. But points wise it's not as
- 6:08easy. We've got Sam Rinzel of the
- 6:10Chicago Blackhawks. He's line one power play, 1,
- 6:13four-game week with two off nights.
- 6:15He is I think I'm pretty excited about Rinzel.
- 6:17If he's available in your league, I would be snatching him
- 6:19up right away. It's hard to find a power play
- 6:21one quarterback on a team that had such a highly ranked power
- 6:24play like Chicago last year. In his first game, he didn't get
- 6:27any points, but he I think led his team in waste time, got four
- 6:30blocks and a shot and a hit. So I think that he's a really
- 6:34solid pickup. The biggest thing I think would
- 6:36resell is how much he was on the ice.
- 6:38If you wanna be a defenseman that contributes to category
- 6:41coverage, like you gotta be on the ice a lot.
- 6:43And that was one of the biggest things that I noticed in week
- 6:45one with the exposure to P1. He could be like the fantasy
- 6:50defence that you pick up at the beginning of the season, last on
- 6:52your roster the whole year. Yeah, yeah.
- 6:55Whatever. Yeah, definitely happened.
- 6:56It's just I, I, I wouldn't sleep on left Shanov.
- 7:00I know you guys aren't nearly that high on as high on him.
- 7:02As I was not even really high. On I would sleep on the air.
- 7:05But I don't really know. I mean, second overall pick last
- 7:07year, it's their guy. He's supposed to be their guy in
- 7:11the future. So I don't think there gonna be
- 7:13good at some point. I wouldn't be surprised if he
- 7:15gets a crack there. But nevertheless, Rinzler guy
- 7:17for the next few weeks for sure. Four-game week, all off nights
- 7:19is really good. Jackie Samrin Sell or Cam
- 7:22Fowler? Fowler.
- 7:26Integrated cell, yeah. It's like OK.
- 7:32Yeah, no, there, there's no way. Like, did you know who Samanza
- 7:36was three months ago? Thought about it.
- 7:40It's not about who. Who was valuable 3 months ago?
- 7:42About who's valuable, right? Now.
- 7:43Exactly. It's not about who's better at
- 7:45golf, alright? Alright, let's go to #6.
- 7:50At #6 We've got the star of Week 1, or at least day one.
- 7:55Frank Nazar of the Chicago Blackhawks Line 2 power play 1
- 7:59again, A4 game week with two all plus off nights.
- 8:01He popped off game one with two points and he's a super exciting
- 8:07prospect. We had him.
- 8:08We mentioned him in the offseason as a guy that's a good
- 8:10late sleeper target in your fantasy leagues.
- 8:13If you didn't grab him but he didn't grab in your league,
- 8:16now's the time before he really keeps the pop off.
- 8:19He's going to play a big, big part on this Chicago team all
- 8:21year that I'm very confident about and you can see that he
- 8:26can just have these amazing games with four and all of them
- 8:29off nights. It's great.
- 8:30I would really, really like to have them one more team this
- 8:32week. The biggest thing to know with
- 8:35Frank Nazer, though, is that you can't really expect this
- 8:37category coverage to be there. Like, yeah, he's a pure C, which
- 8:40already limits his potential production on your fantasy team
- 8:43depending on how shallow you are.
- 8:44We playing very deep leagues when these are was like drafted
- 8:46in our league but I would expect a high point threshold where you
- 8:51might not get the shots that hits the blocks.
- 8:54But even in a bangers league, if it's deep enough like he could
- 8:56provide some value. And I will say though that I was
- 8:59impressed with his face off wins in his first game of the season.
- 9:02Absolutely he's off wins. So that's nothing to ignore in a
- 9:04face off win league. And obviously, like player,
- 9:07that's sick. Yeah, like we're banger
- 9:10management. We focus on the bangers, but we
- 9:12also got to mention guys that are like good at points too,
- 9:14right? So Nazar is just gonna be one of
- 9:16those guys that maybe he's more one-dimensional, but he can
- 9:19still be valuable. I think he like could be like a
- 9:21Dylan Strome type of thing where you know you're not really
- 9:24getting much category coverage but you're getting a pussy that
- 9:26can get like .8 points per game plus.
- 9:29Yeah, and Strum was nuts last year.
- 9:30So get in, get in while you can. All right, breaking into the top
- 9:36five at #5 we got. William Eckland of the San Jose
- 9:41Sharks line 2 power play 1. He really had a strong end to
- 9:47last season. I'm a bit not happy about his
- 9:51even strength deployment. I was hoping he would be a
- 9:54staples to celebrity. He's getting shifted between
- 9:56line 1 and line 2. Though, Yeah, it's not, it's
- 9:58not. They haven't decided yet the
- 10:00exact lines, but power play, one with celebrity.
- 10:03I think that's gonna be a surprising power play for a lot
- 10:05of people. And also if.
- 10:07You play a year. Go ahead.
- 10:09They're going to be figuring things out.
- 10:11I This is not the type of team that I would read into as far as
- 10:16even strength deployment. The one sure thing is that
- 10:18celebrating their star and they're gonna do what they can
- 10:21to support him. I believe Eckland's the best bet
- 10:25at an accompaniment because Will Smith is also really good at
- 10:30centre. So I wouldn't be surprised if
- 10:32Will Smith, Sorry if William McQueen, plays the vast majority
- 10:35of the year on his line with. Celebration, that's the thing to
- 10:38like Will Smith we thought would play centre potentially on this
- 10:41team, but turns out it's gonna be playing winger, which is
- 10:43better for his fantasy value specifically because he's going
- 10:46to be playing with celebrity in on 55 and on the power play.
- 10:49And I think Eckland being drummed down from line 1 to line
- 10:532 is more about like evening out the lines that have some quality
- 10:55kind of spread out. But I wouldn't be shocked if you
- 10:58know, after a few weeks, they put Will Smith back at centre
- 11:01and excellent gets bumped up back to the line one.
- 11:04Like as you're listening to this, maybe they're practicing
- 11:06with Elon on line 1 instead of line to do so.
- 11:08Really it's a very fluid situation, so monitor it.
- 11:11But whether he's line one, line 2, he's valuable.
- 11:13And if you play in short handed leagues as well, at least I
- 11:16count short handed points. Like he's plays on the power on
- 11:19the penalty kill as well. So extra dimension to his game.
- 11:23And I think you can have a lot of points, some shots and some
- 11:25power play points. Yeah, only three-game week with
- 11:29uh, not 2 plus off nights next week.
- 11:31But uh, he's just more of a season long guy who should who
- 11:34should definitely be held. Yeah, yeah, all right #4.
- 11:39At #4 We've got Alexi Lafreniere of the New York Rangers line. 2
- 11:44power play, question mark. He's a kind of bouncing around.
- 11:47Power play 2, power play 1. The coach said he's gonna
- 11:49they're gonna try one power play one, but he's not getting the
- 11:52full crack at it just yet. Trocheck's there for now.
- 11:55I'd be very surprised if he doesn't get it within a month.
- 11:59I don't know what you guys think.
- 12:00At the very least it'll be a back and forth type of thing
- 12:02because the coach specifically stated he wants to give him reps
- 12:04on power play 1. And obviously that's the reason
- 12:07I'm talking about so much is because that's such a huge, it
- 12:09is part of his value, especially on a team like the Rangers that
- 12:12should have such a strong power play.
- 12:14But even without the power play, his first game he got six shots,
- 12:18three hits. He if he takes a step up in his
- 12:20back, that's a really safe floor to have.
- 12:23Yeah, absolutely. I I really think obviously the
- 12:25the power player 1 deployment is the big question mark for his
- 12:29value. But even without it, we're
- 12:30seeing him be valuable in terms of banger banger leagues where
- 12:33he can contribute to those shots and hits and he can be a walking
- 12:38double double this year. Whether he gets P1, honestly,
- 12:41I'm not sure. I really think this Rangers team
- 12:43is starting the season very slow.
- 12:45They want to get things going. You know, we saw JT, we saw
- 12:48Panarin be not in training camp, which is helping them start
- 12:53slow. Whatever works is whatever's
- 12:55gonna stay, so we'll see how that goes.
- 12:58All right #3. At #3 we've got Nick Schmaltz of
- 13:03the Utah. They play 4 games with two plus
- 13:06off nights. He's aligned 2 power play.
- 13:08One. I, we talked about this a lot in
- 13:11the offseason. I think Utah power play is gonna
- 13:13be unreal. I think they're gonna have such.
- 13:15They have so many offensive weapons and Schmaltz is just out
- 13:18of all that group of awesome forwards they have.
- 13:20He is every year underrated. Sure, he's not the biggest back
- 13:23cat guy, but points wise he always delivers and he's always
- 13:26extremely underrated. So if you're in a points league,
- 13:29he should 100% be rostered. If you're in a deep fingers leak
- 13:32he should still be rostered. So take a look at his very low
- 13:34rostered percentage and grab him if you can.
- 13:37Yeah, and this is one of the best teams that he's played with
- 13:41because when he was on Chicago, I guess they were they were
- 13:44decent. But you know, he's only really
- 13:46spent it. He spent the majority of his
- 13:48career with the Coyotes and now the Utah Mammoth.
- 13:51And as far as things go, I mean, he's he's hit basically 60
- 13:56points in his last Four Seasons. And now playing with good
- 13:59players who have matured, they're not particularly a young
- 14:01team as they were last two years.
- 14:04I think this could be a really good year.
- 14:06I wouldn't really be shocked if he had 70.
- 14:08It's not such a big jump. No, I think he, I mean, he hit
- 14:1263 last year. I could really strongly envision
- 14:15him hitting 70. If you look at his Utah lineup,
- 14:17this top 6 is stacked. It feels like whether you're on
- 14:20line one, line 2, like you're, you're in good hands in terms of
- 14:23like your 55 deployment. He's P1 on a power play that
- 14:27we're expecting to be very successful with.
- 14:30Logan Cooley, baby, I, I love schmaltz.
- 14:35You just have to know that you're getting a guy that's more
- 14:37one-dimensional. But these are still guys that
- 14:39even in bangers, like we said before, you still need these
- 14:41guys on your roster to get points to hit those categories.
- 14:45He's gonna get over two shots a game.
- 14:46He could get you point 8.9 points per game like that would
- 14:50be nuts. And he's still on waivers.
- 14:52So what better opportunity than to pick him up for a four-game
- 14:55win with two off nights and and ride that?
- 14:58Ride that train, baby. It's gonna be one of the most
- 15:03boring low key point per game at Jason players this year.
- 15:07But every year, like every year, literally it's But I think we'll
- 15:11just do better with points. Yeah.
- 15:13And then after a while, you're like, all right, he's getting
- 15:16his stats, he's getting me points, you know what I mean?
- 15:19Yeah, if he's not on your team like you don't, you don't look
- 15:21at your opponents team schmaltz there and feel intimidated.
- 15:24But you're. Not they should be your 10.
- 15:26Point set up zero to timber shivering with smalls.
- 15:32So so yeah, it's gonna come and it's going to be very, very
- 15:36under the radar. But you heard it here first.
- 15:38You should pick them up. All right, going into the top
- 15:42two at #2 we got. Owen Tippett of the Philadelphia
- 15:48Flyers, he is playing line 2 power play one.
- 15:51They only have a three-game week next week.
- 15:54But he's just should absolutely be rostered in most formats as
- 15:59long as your league is deep enough.
- 16:01But still like he's just should absolutely be rostered.
- 16:04First of all, we know the shots and hits are there.
- 16:06He's when he's playing at top of his game, he's an elite shot hit
- 16:09guy. And you throw in the fact he's
- 16:11finally got power play one, he's free of Torts.
- 16:14Michkov is going to be sick and he has to play with him on power
- 16:17play. Every sign points to awards.
- 16:19A huge breakout for Owen Tippett and he should absolutely be
- 16:22picked up. I like Philly as a dark horse
- 16:25team and I don't think they're gonna be fantastic, but I think
- 16:29that they could make a push to be like a low key playoff team.
- 16:33Are you just saying you have Ursin on your roster?
- 16:37Speaking into it, but who? Ironically, he's got such a good
- 16:40shot that I feel like he's never tipped in a goal, but that's
- 16:44kind. Of unfortunate.
- 16:47I was thinking about as you were talking about.
- 16:48I was like oh this is an important point to add, but
- 16:50that. Wasn't.
- 16:51Important. Thank you.
- 16:52Nevertheless, the post Tortorella is what I'm really
- 16:55excited about because you saw it on Florida when he was kinda
- 16:59coached not by Tortorella. He was really, really good there
- 17:03and it's just suppressed his value.
- 17:05Him and Lafreniere, who we just both, we both mentioned
- 17:07Laviolette and Tortorella are not good coaches, four players,
- 17:10fantasy value and I'm very excited to see what type can do
- 17:13this year. Tip it.
- 17:14Honestly, he's the type of guy that I would, you know, go on a
- 17:18limb and say he's like a must roster guy in bangers leagues.
- 17:21Yeah, yeah, he's literally only 34% owned as we are recording
- 17:25this insane. By the time you hear this, he's
- 17:27higher, he's over 40, but last season he was at .56 points per
- 17:32game, .09 power play points, he was never on the 1st power play
- 17:37and he averaged over half a point of game and he's basically
- 17:40a walking double double. He'll get you like 2.5 shots
- 17:43hovering near to two hits a game already.
- 17:46Those guys are valuable in bangers leagues.
- 17:48Now you're telling me who's the best forward on Philly?
- 17:51Michalov. Should be Miss Grove connect.
- 17:53Me. OK, well, I was gonna say Travis
- 17:54connect me. Yeah, I think right now it's
- 17:57still Travis connect me and he's playing on the same line as Owen
- 18:00Tippett. So when you're playing like
- 18:02let's say that line is line 2, potentially centred by Zagreus.
- 18:06If you're playing on the line with the other best forward on
- 18:08the team and you're exposed to that power play 1, I feel we
- 18:12could have a breakout season by Owen Tippett.
- 18:14He could average point 7.8 points per game with the double
- 18:17double in the back and that would be a ** pickup this early
- 18:20in the season. Yeah, he and he's also like
- 18:24didn't, didn't know how old he is.
- 18:25Take a guess. 2423. 26 so still like.
- 18:30Yeah. Yeah, but like, I feel like he's
- 18:32been. Around for old.
- 18:34Yeah, seriously, he's washed. Dumping.
- 18:36So there goes my point. But he's no, he's gonna be
- 18:40really good. And Loki close to 1 block a game
- 18:43which is not not valuable in bangers leagues.
- 18:46Yeah, yes, exactly. All right, you do the intro,
- 18:51Kevin, for the big reveal over. Here the big.
- 18:54Number one, Number one, we've got Josh Norris of the Buffalo
- 19:00Sabres line. One power play, one just a
- 19:03three-game week, but this guy is criminally underlined like it's
- 19:06actually crazy. What is he 26% something like?
- 19:08That 26% as we speak. This is the #1C for the Sabers.
- 19:13I know the Sabers is not an exciting team.
- 19:15I know Norris has his injury history, but this guy's gonna
- 19:19get to play with Tage Thompson at even strength.
- 19:21That power, he gets to play with Rasmus Dahlin.
- 19:23He is a great player himself. Other than the injury history,
- 19:27there's no reason for him to be this low rostered.
- 19:30It's honestly it blows my mind Kevin got him in our draft and I
- 19:33was super jealous because every year I take him super late and
- 19:36even though he gets injured it's still worth it for the draft
- 19:38value. But but yeah I mean he shoots,
- 19:41he wins faceoffs, he hits, and the points and power play points
- 19:43are gonna come as well. So I think this is just a no
- 19:46brainer pickup. If he's available in your league
- 19:47and you can afford to pick up a centre, you need to grab him
- 19:50right now. There's not many centres that
- 19:53can average like point 7.8 points per game and also get you
- 19:58over to hits a game, and Josh Norris is one of those names.
- 20:01Yes, this upcoming week he only has three games, but this is not
- 20:04only and also would you rather have a four-game week guide that
- 20:10is not necessarily the best or a three-game weak guy that you can
- 20:13severely count on? I'd rather do three-game week
- 20:15even though you're trying to maximize games played this early
- 20:17in the season. I think Josh Norris is a steal.
- 20:19I think he's gonna be up over 50% owned very shortly.
- 20:24I, I think sky is the limit for this kid as long as he stays
- 20:26healthy. That's the big, the big asterisk
- 20:28because he hasn't really been healthy for for long in his
- 20:30career. But I'm expecting big things
- 20:33this season from Josh Norris. Yeah, I'm with you guys all the
- 20:37way. He's the number one guy with the
- 20:40best season long potential, owned under 40% on Yahoo
- 20:43leagues, and I'm just really excited by what he can do.
- 20:48He should basically replicate or even exceed what Cousins did
- 20:53last year when he was with Buffalo, and that was really
- 20:56decent production. Yeah, change of scenery is
- 20:59probably what they both needed to get the best out of them.
- 21:01And look, if he stays healthy, he could be a really valuable
- 21:04asset. That's the big if for him.
- 21:06But like, he's healthy now, so why not grab him for free?
- 21:09You know, like if he gets injured and you don't want to
- 21:11hold on to the injured guy then you can drop him.
- 21:13But don't you know, I don't get why people are not picking him
- 21:16up, assuming he's injured when he's still healthy.
- 21:19Exactly, and if he gets hurt IR station pick up the replacement
- 21:22or. Something.
- 21:23Yeah, exactly. You wasn't on your router to
- 21:25begin with it listening to this to this episode, so.
- 21:27Yeah, rate. Should we dive into our top five
- 21:31bangers for this week? Yeah.
- 21:32So yes, the the the top ten that we just spoke about.
- 21:35Obviously some guys are good at bangers, but these are also guys
- 21:37that we can rely on to mostly get points.
- 21:39Now let's talk about bangers, guys.
- 21:43Yeah, because we love hanging bangers.
- 21:46Yeah, exactly. Hard B Alright at #5 #5 thank
- 21:54you Kevin. We've got Jake McCabe, he they
- 21:58have a four-game week and he last year put up 1.1 shots, 1.8
- 22:03hits and two point one blocks. This is just a solid defensemen.
- 22:06You need that close to two and two at the backside.
- 22:09Got four games that week. It's just one of those plug and
- 22:12play. Nothing too exciting, but it
- 22:13could flip you one or two cats. Hits all the mangoes you need at
- 22:17a higher than average threshold, then can ask for much more.
- 22:21Yep. #4 Similar, similar guy, pretty much the same exact
- 22:26player. Yeah, at #4 we got Connor Murphy
- 22:29of the Chicago Blackhawks last year. 1.2 shots, 1.7 hits, 2.3
- 22:33blocks. Again, these two defensemen are
- 22:35unexciting. It's just you need a guy with a
- 22:38four-game week. Murphy has the off nights over
- 22:40Mccabes. That's why we ranked higher.
- 22:42But very similar stats. And these are just, you know,
- 22:45easy plug-in streamers to flip a couple cats.
- 22:47This is why you're playing in categories league.
- 22:49You should have some sort of calculation telling you what
- 22:52categories you want to be targeting that week.
- 22:54If you see that you're going to struggle on hits or blocks, not
- 22:56struggle but like you are close to flipping them, then you wanna
- 22:59pick up these guys. These are not the most exciting.
- 23:03Players that are. Present in the NHL.
- 23:06Thing but they some these are guys that are like always useful
- 23:09to stream like these are the names that become common in the
- 23:13hockey workplace with them just being valuable on A4 game weeks.
- 23:19Yeah, I'd make game multiple times last year and it was
- 23:21always nice. That these are the types of guys
- 23:23who are gonna end up on like everyone in your leagues team at
- 23:25some point. Just anytime someone in a pinch
- 23:27and needs like those stats, they pick up these guys because they
- 23:30just have the consistency and it's like I just need like three
- 23:33hits in the next two games just to win that category.
- 23:36I'll just pick up a Murphy Remicade, whatever, but like I
- 23:38think our top 3 here is a is a lot more exciting.
- 23:40Yeah, they're fantasy journeyman.
- 23:42That's what I would call, yes. Yeah.
- 23:45Yeah, this this top three door to talk about some forwards that
- 23:48can not only get you hits, but also some shots and some points
- 23:51and at #3 we got. Marco Casper of the Detroit Red
- 23:55Wings, they have a four-game week and two plus off nights.
- 23:58Last year he had 1.9 shots on goal and two hits, so pretty
- 24:01much a double double. He's centering line 2 with Kane
- 24:04and Debrincat so there's definitely some offensive upside
- 24:06there. And what the great schedule this
- 24:08week. I definitely like him as a
- 24:09pickup for bankers and in a bangers, a deep bangers league.
- 24:12I think he's a season long hold. I'm the highest of anybody on
- 24:16Casper. I like him a lot.
- 24:18There's a lot of potential there.
- 24:20He is a real tough, you know, uphill battle to climb, to get
- 24:24power. Play one he's not gonna get.
- 24:26In he's never getting power play 1.
- 24:27I don't, unless there's an injury, I don't think he's
- 24:29getting power. Play 1.
- 24:30Yeah, it's very obvious. But he could still provide a lot
- 24:33of value and I was shocked when I saw that last year he
- 24:36basically averaged a double double because he had really
- 24:38good point stretches too. I think he's an amazing season,
- 24:41long hold and I'd really like to have all my team.
- 24:46Yeah, I think the one thing holding him back from being just
- 24:48like a guy that you're getting drafting in the top 8 rounds is
- 24:51the no power play one. If he was on power play 1A
- 24:54double double young guy with the breakout potential, he would
- 24:57definitely be a way higher. The fact is, without that, it
- 24:59caps his points ceiling, but he's still a great a great
- 25:02pickup and super low roster right now.
- 25:04Yeah, yeah, I I'm definitely the lowest of the three of us on on
- 25:07Casper, but his category coverage is undeniable and I
- 25:12think his game is just going to progress throughout the season.
- 25:14So all right #2. All right, this is a polarizing
- 25:19one, but at #2 we've got Evander Kane of the Vancouver Canucks 4
- 25:23game week with two plus off nights.
- 25:25I could input last year stats because he didn't play last year
- 25:28in the in the regular season. So I put his career stats here
- 25:31and on his career he averages 1.3 Pimms per game with 3.5
- 25:34shots and 2.4 hits. That's just absolutely
- 25:38ridiculous banger stats. And then you throw in the fact
- 25:40that he's on power play 1 to start the year.
- 25:42I know Kevin doesn't think that's going to last, but at the
- 25:45very least he's going to give it a shot for it.
- 25:47So he has the points potential and he has the potential for
- 25:50these back cats. The only one of the big ifs is
- 25:54his age and the fact that he's a bionic man after all those
- 25:56surgeries. So there's definitely a lot of,
- 25:59yeah, there's a lot of ifs here, but there's a lot, a lot of
- 26:03upside. So if you're the type of person,
- 26:05fantasy player who likes grabbing a guy with super high
- 26:09upside and worst case scenario if he's available and you grab
- 26:12him worst case, OK, cost you like a week because of him not
- 26:15performing and then you drop him or something.
- 26:16I don't know me. This is such a huge upside
- 26:18pickup that if he's available in your league, it's a league that
- 26:21counts Pimms shots and hits. I'm grabbing him immediately.
- 26:24He was one of the best picks to ever have in Bangor leagues 4
- 26:29years ago. Three years ago even, it was a
- 26:32bit of a different story on Edmonton.
- 26:33He was buried in the lineup. But what's cool about it here is
- 26:36that it'll similar to the Sharks where he is going to be front
- 26:39and centre of this team for their success.
- 26:41Line 3. For now, that's not exciting,
- 26:44but I wouldn't say that jump to line 2 is impossible over
- 26:48Arshdeep Bains so. Yeah, he's not going to be stuck
- 26:57arch deep in the lineup the whole time.
- 27:00That's a good one. OK, what I was going to say
- 27:06about Evander Kane is I'm definitely more on the
- 27:09pessimistic side compared to both of you in terms of like his
- 27:12threshold. That's the point right now.
- 27:15I'm trying to keep a professional.
- 27:16OK, you guys can laugh. Let me just talk about Evander
- 27:20Kane. Listen, Week 1, you can't read
- 27:24too, too much into it. Only two games.
- 27:26Now, Week 2 is gonna get a four-game week.
- 27:30I think the peripherals are really going to depend on how
- 27:32much he can stay on the ice. So I would I would say his floor
- 27:36is a double double and with the potential exposure to power play
- 27:40one like as you're listening to this, like with the practice
- 27:43lines, anything can happen. He could be power play 2.
- 27:45He could be on no power plays. So make sure you just take a
- 27:48look at like daily face off and see what the updated lines look
- 27:50like. If he's on power play one, he's
- 27:52like full stream ahead. Even power play 2 if you need
- 27:54bangs. I'm still interested.
- 27:55So I really like him for the banger categories.
- 28:01Alright, Jake, are you OK? Jake.
- 28:02Is still like dying a lot. Looking at Arshdeep's NHL stats
- 28:07from last year, it's pretty good.
- 28:11So maybe she came. We'll have a tough time, but
- 28:13we're taking you. Obviously he looks like a pretty
- 28:18good player. Just the pun of the century.
- 28:24Jake is nothing that will get them to puns like.
- 28:29That that was exceptional. That was the equals MC squared
- 28:33of puns I. Was thank you, I was pretty
- 28:35proud of it. Was awesome.
- 28:38OK, OK. Move on to move on to to the
- 28:42first. Yeah, all right #1 on this
- 28:46banger, top five. All right #1 banger for this
- 28:51week is Mackie Samutsevich of the Florida Panthers.
- 28:55They have a three-game week, but he's got the sorry.
- 28:58They have a four-game week but but don't have the off nights.
- 29:02Last year you put up 1.8 shots on goal and 1.9 hits.
- 29:05So pretty much a double double. He's not getting power play one
- 29:08right now. I do think he has a shot at it,
- 29:10but even without that he put up two points in a power play point
- 29:13in his first game. I really like Simon Sketch this
- 29:15year. Jackie sniped him from me and
- 29:17I'm over it. Yeah, he's currently on line 3,
- 29:21but this is such a fluid situation.
- 29:24The coach has said multiple times he wants him in the top 6.
- 29:26Yeah, exactly. And like Florida, is arch deep
- 29:29in injuries right now. I saw you saw you gearing up for
- 29:36that one. Put it away to say the name
- 29:39again. You couldn't.
- 29:42Yeah, this is great. I don't think Kevin got the fun.
- 29:43Will have to explain it to him. Later, yeah.
- 29:45Yeah, time to go into it actually, just like really
- 29:48listen to this afterwards. And yeah, it's really complex.
- 29:53Yeah, I'm. Thinking about it.
- 29:56No. No, he doesn't get OK.
- 30:02Anyways, this is great, yeah. It's great, is the man.
- 30:06I have some Moskvich and a lot of my leagues, I'm thrilled to
- 30:08have him. I think the one thing that
- 30:10hasn't been said yet, like yeah, he's line 3, but Josh said like
- 30:14he's going to end up in the top 6, but he's still getting good
- 30:16minutes even if he's not in the top 6.
- 30:18The main thing is if they if Ford decides not to go with the
- 30:21two defensemen power play, I think he's the guy that's going
- 30:23to get up there. Yeah, 100%.
- 30:25It's either him or for Hagee, and I think they'd much prefer
- 30:27him. So I'm really feel like Rangers
- 30:31leagues that are that are pretty deep.
- 30:33Like he can be a season long hold and I'd be seriously
- 30:35considering adding him if you have the room.
- 30:39Yeah, but before we get to the end of this, let's get into our
- 30:41goalies. So we've got our top three
- 30:43quantity goalies. So those are guys who are gonna
- 30:45get you 2 plus starts and again, as everything on this episode,
- 30:48it's guys who are under 40% owned so that it applies to most
- 30:51leagues. So at. #3. #3 We've got Spencer
- 30:57Knight of the Chicago Blackhawks.
- 30:59They play 4 times next week against Utah, Saint Louis,
- 31:02Vancouver, Anaheim. He should get three of those
- 31:04four starts and none of these. All these teams could be good
- 31:08this year, but none of them is super scary to me.
- 31:11Utah. I love you.
- 31:13I love Utah. I think Saint Louis is sick.
- 31:16Vancouver, Anaheim, you know, but none of them are like a top
- 31:18five team in the league. But realistically, like we're
- 31:22going into week two, you probably drafted goalies are
- 31:25gonna help you get your starts already.
- 31:27So if you're really in a pickle that you need goalie starts, you
- 31:30either punted goalies completely or like you're only two.
- 31:34Goals say that's. UPL and Kochetkov and that's it
- 31:37and. I was gonna say that's a bit
- 31:38rich coming from you and Jake didn't say anything about him
- 31:41too, because the two of you guys wanted goalies card that this a
- 31:44top three applies to you guys more than anyone.
- 31:46So you know that there's a lot of people out there who go full
- 31:480G and neither of these quantity starts.
- 31:50Sure. Hey, listen, all my team, I got
- 31:52Scott Wedgewood, who depending on when you're listening to this
- 31:55as a recording. Blackwood is not currently back
- 31:57yet. I I'm, I'm happy with Freddie
- 32:00Anderson. So listen.
- 32:01Yeah, I'm definitely listening to this section in Incognito
- 32:05mode. Yeah, Jiggies Burn is on full
- 32:07flight, right? Now.
- 32:09Did you drop the one goalie and Stuart Skinner?
- 32:11So we'll see how that goes for him.
- 32:14Yeah, Calvin Pickard's back up. Do you?
- 32:19Yeah. Sorry, were you gonna say?
- 32:21No, you go. No, just these three.
- 32:25Don't talk about two or one yet. Yeah, that's what I thought,
- 32:28yeah. Cause I.
- 32:29Was gonna no because I was just gonna say like of these three, I
- 32:34think Knight is the one who's the safest bet to be a starter
- 32:39all season. He's not my favorite for this
- 32:41week, nor is he actually technically my favorite, but he
- 32:43is the safest. He is exactly my third favorite
- 32:46this week in terms of. At least if I had to rank him
- 32:50then. Chicago is going to be bad, but
- 32:53he's their guy and he was supposed to be a really great
- 32:55goalie coming out. Of the great the first game of
- 32:57the season against against Florida, his old team, they
- 33:00didn't win, but he had a good game, which is I think what
- 33:02you'll be saying most of the year if you have him.
- 33:05He might be like the style of last year, just like, you know,
- 33:09not on the best team, you're not always gonna get wins, but you
- 33:11kind of look good even in the losses.
- 33:13Yeah, that might be his situation, but let's talk about
- 33:15#2. #2 We've got a guy that Jackie likes to bring up every
- 33:21year, but it's just he's too early.
- 33:23But we've got a yes for Walstead of the Minnesota Wild.
- 33:26And he would be like, what? How is yester Walstead getting
- 33:29two starts when Philip Gustafson is a clear number one?
- 33:31I'll tell you, listener, it's because they have two back to
- 33:33backs next week. So he's going to get both back
- 33:37to backs. So they have one back, which is
- 33:40LA and Dallas. So he's going to get one of
- 33:42those two and they have one which is Washington and Philly.
- 33:44So neither is, I think the first back-to-back is definitely
- 33:47harder, but I think he probably ends up getting Philly and I'm
- 33:52not sure which one of LA Dallas. Either way, Minnesota is a solid
- 33:55team. Yeah, and I like him a lot.
- 33:57I think he gets Dallas and Philly.
- 33:59I think he's just. Gonna fucking suck.
- 34:01I actually think you're right. Like I think they should give
- 34:03him LA though because LA is not doesn't have the offensive
- 34:06Dallas does. So we'll see.
- 34:08But they'll just give the goes the extra rest by splitting them
- 34:10like one each one each. Exactly.
- 34:12Yeah. Yeah, but yeah, the the main
- 34:16thing with Walstead is I remember in the offseason when
- 34:18Jake said the draft him and. Vicky was just looking at Week 2
- 34:23and he was trying to get everyone to save the waiver add.
- 34:25I'm kidding. I'm teasing.
- 34:27But I I think, listen, like this is a week where they just paid
- 34:33Gustafson, first of all, so he's gonna be the guy.
- 34:36But if you're a backup goal and you want to make a name for
- 34:38yourself, like it's in weeks like this where you're playing
- 34:41on back-to-back so you can actually like show up and and
- 34:43put a good performance out. And then who knows what the
- 34:46future holds. But in he's supposed to be a top
- 34:50prospect, top quality goalie. And this is going to be the
- 34:52first week here that we can actually see if that's true or
- 34:54not. Yeah.
- 34:56Exactly. And #1 the.
- 34:59GOAT number one, we have the best goalie of all time are
- 35:03tours Shiloh's of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
- 35:06He is playing Anaheim, LA and San Jose.
- 35:09Should get two of three, if not all three of those starts.
- 35:12I'd say two or three probably. They might still want to toss
- 35:14Jerry in a game here and there. But the reason we're calling him
- 35:17the GOAT is when we're recording this, he just put up a shutout
- 35:19against the Rangers and also because he's the best to ever do
- 35:23it. So yeah, now he's a great, great
- 35:25pickup. He's writing high going into
- 35:28Week 2 and seems like a he's the starter for for Pittsburgh.
- 35:32So even though none of us are particularly high in Pittsburgh,
- 35:34at least with these opponents, it's going to be a good.
- 35:36Week if you're new to the podcast, first of all, welcome.
- 35:40We're glad to have you. Should be an exciting season
- 35:42ahead. If you're old to the podcast and
- 35:44you're listening in the off season, we talked about Arthur.
- 35:47She loves on our top 10 signings and he just cracked the list.
- 35:50Some said he wasn't, he wasn't worth mentioning, but we said
- 35:55this guy has talent and that he could potentially be the starter
- 35:58for this roster. So I'm just trying to give us a
- 36:00round of applause here and going into Week 2, he's gonna be a
- 36:06great pick up. But listen, I it would be
- 36:08shocking if they give Jerry a chance at this.
- 36:10No, but the fact that they went that she loves for game one just
- 36:14shows like the confidence and Jerry is already like yeah, low,
- 36:17low, low. Starter at this point.
- 36:19And they saw, they probably saw something in practice that they
- 36:22were like, we can't start this guy week 1 or this guy is so
- 36:25much better so. Yeah alright, should we go to
- 36:28our top three quality goalies? This is guys who are gonna
- 36:31probably only get one game again under 40% owned, but we think
- 36:34it's gonna be a good game so at. #3. #3 We've got Danil Tarasov
- 36:41of the Florida Panthers. They have a back-to-back this
- 36:44week, but either against Detroit or New Jersey.
- 36:47Obviously New Jersey is a very strong team offensively.
- 36:50Detroit not as much, but they still have some some offensive
- 36:53firepower. But either way, it's the Florida
- 36:55Panthers back-to-back champs and and if you need a spot start in
- 37:00the in a pinch, then he's a good, solid guy.
- 37:03And he's got good games in the NHL.
- 37:05He's a, he's not like some high quality backup or anything.
- 37:08But I think that, you know, Florida, even with the injuries,
- 37:12could still beat any team. So, yeah.
- 37:14And obviously, this is just an independent starter.
- 37:17This is nothing serious. But Bob is not gonna play that
- 37:21many like as many games as like your average starter.
- 37:24Bob plays between 50 and 55 this year.
- 37:27Exactly. Which starts up with going lower
- 37:29and lower every year, so. Yeah.
- 37:31I don't know if they're like committed to Tyrosol of being
- 37:33the backup all year. We'll see.
- 37:35But it's in games like these where he has to make a name for
- 37:38himself just like you said with wasted.
- 37:39So he's going to have to bring it.
- 37:41Yeah, that's it's his to lose in terms of the.
- 37:43Back It's not like she loves it's like a guaranteed amazing
- 37:45goalie all the time you. Know yeah, best of all time.
- 37:47What? What do you mean?
- 37:51All right, let's talk about #2. At #2 we've got Calvin Pickard
- 37:55of the Edmonton Oilers. They also have a back-to-back
- 37:57against New Jersey and Detroit funny enough.
- 38:00And obviously again, very similar situation where Edmonton
- 38:04is a top team just like Florida, the exact same 2 opponents.
- 38:06So they're gonna get, he's gonna get one of them.
- 38:08I think what makes this a bit different is I think Picard is a
- 38:11better goalie than Tarasoff. He's shown he can be pretty
- 38:13solid in the past for Edmonton. As Kevin likes to mention,
- 38:16Picard is loved in the locker room, and Kevin is convinced
- 38:18that he's going to steal the net from Skinner.
- 38:21By locating that, yes. I'm a lot less convinced, but if
- 38:24he's gonna do it, it's gonna start here.
- 38:26And Jake, he's sweating cuz Skinners is only drafted goalie.
- 38:29But yeah, no, Pickard's a great pick up for a spot start this
- 38:32week. But what about Ingram?
- 38:36What would you say about Ingram? We, I think it's more directed
- 38:39at Kevin who thinks that OK. I, I think if all of these guys
- 38:44playing at their top potential, I think Ingram is the best
- 38:46goalie. Ingram also has the furthest to
- 38:49go to be back at his top potential, I think.
- 38:52So we'll see. But right now he's watched this
- 38:54guy. If you heard the news that he's
- 38:55getting brought up and you know he's going to start, then I'm
- 38:58like highly interested. But I mean, as of right now, I
- 39:02don't think that's the case. And I think I really I really
- 39:04believe that this Edmonton team is a goalie away from competing
- 39:08and they're going to roll with whoever's giving them the best
- 39:10as to win. So if Picard shows early on,
- 39:12like we saw in the playoffs last season, like they went with
- 39:14Picard when when he was healthy. If if he plays well in this
- 39:18back-to-back, let's say Skinner gets shelled against New Jersey
- 39:20and Picard plays Detroit and he wins and he shows out like
- 39:24Picard will start the next game or high likelihood that he does.
- 39:28So I think out of the guys that were mentioning like he has a
- 39:30chance to run away with the job, which makes him like a little
- 39:33asterisk next to his name in terms of like potential future
- 39:35value. OK, let's get this week.
- 39:38I will say of the three guys, he is definitely the most likely to
- 39:41to do it. I still don't think it's super
- 39:43likely but but he has the chance.
- 39:46I don't think Skinner is the little guy.
- 39:48But yeah, like Skinner would have to be awful.
- 39:50Like it's not a like, even if the cards great, if Skinners
- 39:53like solid, they're not gonna put the card in in as the
- 39:56starter. But in the situation where
- 39:58Skinner's awful and Picard's great, they will give it to him.
- 40:00Where as you look at some of these other ones, Tarasov and
- 40:03Bob, and even if Bob's brutal and Tarasov's great, they're not
- 40:06gonna take away the starting position from Bob.
- 40:08Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Yeah, I was agreeing.
- 40:13Yep. Alright, last thing we talk
- 40:14about before we wrap up top three quality start.
- 40:18Number one, we've got Levi Marlin, a previous star of our
- 40:23spelling bee. They're listening.
- 40:28Another offseason episode. But he is on the Ottawa Senators
- 40:32and he will be playing either Buffalo or Seattle again.
- 40:35Obviously it's beginning of the season.
- 40:36You don't know how good every team is going to be, but I'm not
- 40:39particularly scared of either of those matchups.
- 40:42No, and I think I think we saw last year that Marine and had
- 40:44some good quality in him, like he held down the Fort while they
- 40:47were dealing with some goalie injuries this season.
- 40:49Honestly, like all Mark is not the healthiest goalie either.
- 40:52So he's just a name that I like keep on my watch list in terms
- 40:55of like the starter goes down. I'm heavily interested in him
- 40:57this week. I feel both of these matchups
- 40:59are are I'm very confident going into and at the streaming.
- 41:03If you need a one goal, you start.
- 41:05Yeah, he he was really good last year.
- 41:07It's exciting to to see what he can do.
- 41:10So I'm I'm definitely think that this is a really good quality
- 41:13start for this week and both these teams, Ottawa should win
- 41:17for sure. Yep, I think that wraps it up.
- 41:21That wraps it up, baby. Thank you all for listening to
- 41:25our Week 2 waivers episode. Very exciting.
