Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Battle of these soular power policies happening at the moment
- 0:03Speaker 1: between the two major parties.
- 0:04Speaker 2: They've basically taken the work that rewiring Old I did.
- 0:07Speaker 2: It's good work, and they've put the National Party's logo
- 0:09Speaker 2: on it. Only the Labor Party is able to deliver
- 0:13Speaker 2: the same policy but actually make it cost hundreds of
- 0:16Speaker 2: millions of dollars.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Right, let's cut to the tase. John Harmon, director of Lightful,
- 0:19Speaker 1: solo with us this morning, Morning, John.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Morning Ryan.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Whose is better?
- 0:24Speaker 2: Well, both of them are very similar. The Labor Party
- 0:31Speaker 2: is just more and what we see in this in
- 0:34Speaker 2: this space, which is more virtuous ignoring and more politicking.
- 0:39Speaker 2: But it's not going to shift the dial for the
- 0:41Speaker 2: average punter.
- 0:42Speaker 1: What would because I mean they're talking about renters here,
- 0:45Speaker 1: they're talking about subsidies here of up to three thousand
- 0:48Speaker 1: dollars to get a couple of panels on your roof.
- 0:52Speaker 1: What would move the dial for renters and for low
- 0:55Speaker 1: income people? Middle income be able to actually go with solar.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Oh, it's very simple. It's a level playing field with
- 1:02Speaker 2: the retailers of gentails and alliance companies. So they are
- 1:06Speaker 2: making record profits from new Zealanders with high power prices
- 1:10Speaker 2: and the government itself is making record profits from GST,
- 1:16Speaker 2: from dividends and from basically corporate tax and that's not
- 1:25Speaker 2: going to stop. So we want to level playing field
- 1:27Speaker 2: for investors from the little kids, from the little punters
- 1:32Speaker 2: that invest in two panels on their balcony, to the
- 1:35Speaker 2: average household which really needs twenty panels to run a house.
- 1:39Speaker 2: And that's symmetrical pricing. So whatever the gentailer charges you
- 1:44Speaker 2: for your power rhyme. So let's say thirty six censor unit,
- 1:47Speaker 2: well your panels shall get thirty six censor unit from
- 1:52Speaker 2: them when you're not using the power, when you're exporting
- 1:54Speaker 2: it to your neighbor. That would move the dial as
- 1:58Speaker 2: we want fairness.
- 2:00Speaker 1: More costly, mean you mentioned the Lines charges. Is it
- 2:02Speaker 1: more costly to reverse it out?
- 2:05Speaker 2: No, not at all. It's easy. It's like everywhere in
- 2:09Speaker 2: the world has got more SOLO than New Zealand. It's
- 2:11Speaker 2: just the Lines company don't facilitate it and the gen
- 2:14Speaker 2: Taylors don't want it because they're making all the money.
- 2:18Speaker 1: John Harmon, director of Lightful Solo. For more from early
- 2:22Speaker 1: edition with Ryan Bridge, listen live to News Talks.
