- 0:56Speaker 2: also expecting just momentarily to be joined by former e
- 1:00Speaker 2: Eagles offensive lineman Barrett Brooks, the Star Star Eagles analyst
- 1:05Speaker 2: on NBC Sports and Andrew, we're going to be talking about,
- 1:08Speaker 2: of course, and Eagles another get right win. They enter
- 1:12Speaker 2: the by this week they are six and two. And
- 1:16Speaker 2: I want to ask you this because it's a common theme.
- 1:19Speaker 2: We don't always dabble in the extraneous storylines. But the
- 1:23Speaker 2: idea of a payback that the Eagles delivered to the
- 1:27Speaker 2: Giants celebrated that week six week. I mean, you saw
- 1:30Speaker 2: guys taking their shirts off and posing on camera and
- 1:33Speaker 2: everything like that. Well, the Eagles returned the favor with
- 1:36Speaker 2: a SmackDown of the road.
- 1:37Speaker 3: Was a payback well, I mean, and for the Giants case,
- 1:40Speaker 3: act like you've been there before, but they haven't. But
- 1:45Speaker 3: in the Eagles case, that was never the topic of
- 1:47Speaker 3: conversation in the locker room, Jeff. It was all about
- 1:50Speaker 3: doing what they need to do, staying disciplined and really
- 1:54Speaker 3: honing in on the details and not necessarily fixating so
- 1:57Speaker 3: much on what the Giants did in the previous matchup.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Go out there be the more physical team. He saw
- 2:02Speaker 3: a lot of things that were really intriguing, like the
- 2:04Speaker 3: running game take shape. And much like George Costanza, they
- 2:08Speaker 3: leave for the bye week on a high note.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Yes, it's the bye week of the Eagles. Yeah, summer
- 2:14Speaker 2: of George, bye week of the Birds, whatever, But yes
- 2:17Speaker 2: they leave on a high note. It's great.
- 2:19Speaker 4: And not only that, Andrew, as we continue to.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Look at a from a big picture standpoint, very tough
- 2:25Speaker 2: part of the schedule. I mean, They opened the season
- 2:27Speaker 2: against their rivals, the Cowboys, right. It wasn't the prettiest game,
- 2:31Speaker 2: but they won. Sure, then you had to play all
- 2:33Speaker 2: these playoff teams, including the Rams, right, and then you
- 2:36Speaker 2: play the Broncos, which was.
- 2:38Speaker 4: A tough game.
- 2:38Speaker 2: But you know, week after week the Eagles were playing
- 2:40Speaker 2: some pretty tough teams. And this was supposed to be
- 2:43Speaker 2: Kansas City Chiefs right rematches set Ball. It was supposed
- 2:46Speaker 2: to be one of the toughest legs of their schedule,
- 2:49Speaker 2: and despite their flaws, to go in at six and two,
- 2:53Speaker 2: and even when they lost two games, it's not like
- 2:55Speaker 2: the rest of the NFC East was catching up and
- 2:58Speaker 2: not like the rest of the NFC was pulling away.
- 3:00Speaker 2: They're in a pretty good spot here.
- 3:02Speaker 3: Yeah, but it goes beyond that, because we saw a
- 3:04Speaker 3: lot of different things in that game that we've been
- 3:07Speaker 3: looking for all season from the team. They were able
- 3:09Speaker 3: to play a complete game all four quarters, the running
- 3:12Speaker 3: game two hundred and seventy six rushing yards two hundred
- 3:15Speaker 3: and fifty four by the way, combined for Saquon Barkley
- 3:18Speaker 3: and Tank Bigsby. I thought Kevin Patullo, the Eagles offensive coordator,
- 3:22Speaker 3: had his best game of the season by far. The
- 3:25Speaker 3: defense was able to get to Jackson Dart five times.
- 3:29Speaker 3: Just a really complete win for the Eagles, who really
- 3:31Speaker 3: dominated the Giants in this matchup from powar to post.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Yeah, they absolutely did. It was no question the Eagles.
- 3:37Speaker 2: I think the biggest thing that we can all agree.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Let's talk about what was really important from the game
- 3:42Speaker 2: and what maybe people are making.
- 3:44Speaker 4: Too much of.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Okay, the important thing is that the Eagles rediscovered their
- 3:49Speaker 2: ground game, right, And I understand the sentiment that the
- 3:52Speaker 2: bye week comes at a very difficult time because they
- 3:55Speaker 2: finally got their ground game together and now they got
- 3:57Speaker 2: to wait, you know, more than two weeks because they're
- 4:00Speaker 2: the next game is Monday night against the Packers. But
- 4:03Speaker 2: that the important thing is they rediscovered the ground game,
- 4:07Speaker 2: not only for Saquon Barkley, but you mentioned Tank pigsby right.
- 4:10Speaker 2: They dominated the Giants and the trenches in a way
- 4:13Speaker 2: that they had not done for the first seven games,
- 4:16Speaker 2: even in their wins. That to me is the most
- 4:18Speaker 2: important item coming out of the game.
- 4:21Speaker 3: I think for Mey Jeff and you bring up some
- 4:23Speaker 3: interesting points there. The biggest takeaway for me was the
- 4:26Speaker 3: offensive line executing in the way that they did. From
- 4:29Speaker 3: the second play of the game, Jordan Malatta steals off
- 4:32Speaker 3: the left side, Landon Dickerson blocks three players on one play,
- 4:36Speaker 3: and then it just became Saquon Barkley verse safety Tyler
- 4:39Speaker 3: Nuban and he was off to the races. But from
- 4:41Speaker 3: then on, they set the tone, They dictated what they
- 4:44Speaker 3: were going to do in that game, and it reminded
- 4:46Speaker 3: me a lot of twenty twenty four. And they got
- 4:49Speaker 3: a really good performance out of center, Brett Toath making
- 4:52Speaker 3: his first career start at center, and that made all
- 4:55Speaker 3: the world of a difference, keeping that line together and
- 4:58Speaker 3: really complimenting what they are had there one.
- 5:01Speaker 2: You know, Brett Toath was the guy under the microscope.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Oh no, he's at center. They're gonna have issues. Well
- 5:07Speaker 2: they didn't.
- 5:07Speaker 4: They had no issues. They did.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Let's so let's translate that to going forward because I
- 5:13Speaker 2: agree with you. I think the biggest takeaway was that
- 5:16Speaker 2: looked like the twenty twenty four offensive line, not only
- 5:19Speaker 2: from a dominant standpoint, but from an execution standpoint. If
- 5:23Speaker 2: you watch the Saquon Barkley touchdown on the second play
- 5:26Speaker 2: of the game, what you see is something you saw
- 5:29Speaker 2: commonly last year, which is nobody touched the guy right right.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Saquon Barkley led the NFL last year in yards before contact.
- 5:36Speaker 2: He was one of the worst, not he, but they
- 5:39Speaker 2: were one of the worst yards before contact runners for
- 5:42Speaker 2: the seven weeks into this game and then all of
- 5:44Speaker 2: a sudden a difference and that you can only attribute
- 5:48Speaker 2: to the offensive line.
- 5:49Speaker 3: Yeah, there was a lot of reach blocks that particularly
- 5:52Speaker 3: Landon Dickerson again had his best game of the season,
- 5:55Speaker 3: Brett Toath getting out in space, showcasing some athleticism. There
- 5:58Speaker 3: was one play I think it was a twelve yard
- 6:00Speaker 3: Sakuon Barkley run where he completely buried cornerback Drew Phillips.
- 6:04Speaker 3: Tyler Steen had a nice block on that play.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Yep.
- 6:06Speaker 3: But there was the pins and the polls, and there
- 6:09Speaker 3: was a lot more variation this game in the running game,
- 6:12Speaker 3: and they were able to get it going. I don't
- 6:14Speaker 3: think that was any coincidence.
- 6:15Speaker 2: No, But that's a great segue into what I think
- 6:18Speaker 2: might be a little overstated about what we've seen from
- 6:21Speaker 2: the Eagles offense both against the Giants in the last
- 6:24Speaker 2: two weeks. I give them credit as a staff, as
- 6:27Speaker 2: a team, right, Yep, that has come under a lot
- 6:29Speaker 2: of criticism offensively for introducing some new concepts going under center.
- 6:35Speaker 2: The Eagles did it for the first time quite a
- 6:37Speaker 2: bit against the Vikings. It didn't work very well for
- 6:40Speaker 2: a run game. No, it's Sae Kwon Barkley ran for
- 6:42Speaker 2: twelve sixteen yards on twelve carries from under center. But
- 6:46Speaker 2: they didn't say, oh, well, screw it, we're not gonna
- 6:49Speaker 2: do let's abandon it. Right. They brought it back even
- 6:52Speaker 2: more against the Giants, and then you saw that. Plus
- 6:55Speaker 2: you put Fred Johnson out there on about nine or
- 6:57Speaker 2: ten of those snaps under center and add a little
- 6:59Speaker 2: beef up front, and then you see the run game
- 7:02Speaker 2: go okay. But to your point, it's the execution that mattered.
- 7:06Speaker 2: The wrinkles are things that can help you. They're things
- 7:10Speaker 2: that a defense may not have practiced against as much.
- 7:14Speaker 4: They can be an assistance.
- 7:15Speaker 2: But I don't want people to look at the Eagles
- 7:17Speaker 2: the last two weeks and say they got to be
- 7:19Speaker 2: an under center running team.
- 7:20Speaker 4: This is the cure, because that's the case exactly.
- 7:24Speaker 3: A lot of their shortcomings offensively and at least in
- 7:27Speaker 3: my estimation, Jeff, stem from lack of execution and I
- 7:30Speaker 3: think you saw what happens when you're able to execute
- 7:34Speaker 3: your plays and everything's everything suddenly looks a little bit
- 7:38Speaker 3: better designed when players are executing and the holes are
- 7:41Speaker 3: there and all of that. But I also think that
- 7:43Speaker 3: Kevin Patula deserves some credit here. They typically have leaned
- 7:47Speaker 3: on either Grant Calca Terra Kylon Granson in twelve personnel,
- 7:52Speaker 3: and they're not ideally suited to do that. They're not
- 7:54Speaker 3: in line blockers. But what they did and what they've
- 7:57Speaker 3: done the past two weeks have implemented Red Johnson in
- 8:01Speaker 3: terms of their jumbo package, and they're trying everything to help,
- 8:06Speaker 3: I guess, initiate the running game. And I think that
- 8:08Speaker 3: he deserves a lot of credit from not necessarily just
- 8:10Speaker 3: continuously rolling out the same personnel groupings and and things
- 8:14Speaker 3: like that. He's trying different things and being a little
- 8:17Speaker 3: bit more creative. Dallas Goddard, by the way, how he's
- 8:19Speaker 3: utilizing Dallas Goddard, I don't think we've seen in recent years.
- 8:23Speaker 3: So there's there's been some things that they've done offensively
- 8:26Speaker 3: that have really caught my eye.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Yeah, you and I both spoke to a bunch of
- 8:29Speaker 2: players after the game on Sunday. And one of the
- 8:32Speaker 2: things I glean from that is exactly what you're pointing to,
- 8:35Speaker 2: is that Kevin Petullo from the get go, from the start,
- 8:39Speaker 2: wanted to introduce some new concepts into the red zone offense.
- 8:43Speaker 4: And it's the one thing that.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Even if you're the biggest Kevin Petullo critic in the world,
- 8:48Speaker 2: which right now it feels like there's millions of them,
- 8:50Speaker 2: just to hear in the Delaware.
- 8:50Speaker 3: Mountain, not anymore.
- 8:52Speaker 4: Well, let's say it's one game.
- 8:54Speaker 2: You have to acknowledge that when the Eagles get into
- 8:56Speaker 2: the red zone, not only are they impactful with an
- 8:59Speaker 2: eighty five percent scoring chance that is number one in
- 9:02Speaker 2: the NFL right now, but it is not just tush push.
- 9:06Speaker 2: And like last year running with Sakuon Barkley and getting
- 9:09Speaker 2: in they have used god he very creatively. You're talking
- 9:12Speaker 2: about shovel pass, you're talking about the little flip, the
- 9:16Speaker 2: late tush push for him where they got one the
- 9:18Speaker 2: RPO yesterday.
- 9:19Speaker 4: Or Sunday, Yeah, led to the touchdown.
- 9:21Speaker 2: They have clearly what he has done in this ren
- 9:23Speaker 2: zone has clearly made a difference for this team.
- 9:26Speaker 3: Yeah, and it should always have been expected that it
- 9:28Speaker 3: was going to take some time for Kevin Petula to
- 9:31Speaker 3: get his feet under him. And play calling is not
- 9:35Speaker 3: it's an art, it's not a science. And you could
- 9:37Speaker 3: look at this star studied cast and players that he
- 9:40Speaker 3: has to work with and ask yourself, how could they
- 9:42Speaker 3: hand the keys to the offense to a coordinator who's
- 9:45Speaker 3: never called plays. Well, it has more to do with that,
- 9:48Speaker 3: and there's more that meets the eye with that. Because
- 9:51Speaker 3: Nick Seriani has worked with Kevin Batulo for a number
- 9:54Speaker 3: of years, he knows exactly where his processes lie, where
- 9:59Speaker 3: his in term of just game planning and his offensive mind,
- 10:02Speaker 3: and he had faith that he was going to figure
- 10:04Speaker 3: it out. So he was learning on the job. But
- 10:06Speaker 3: you're starting to see a little bit more of a
- 10:08Speaker 3: confident play caller, and that really manifested Sunday afternoon.
- 10:11Speaker 2: I noticed Kevin Patullo and Jalen Hurts having a really
- 10:15Speaker 2: long animated in a good way. Yes, when I say animated,
- 10:18Speaker 2: they both seemed very excited as we were engaged as
- 10:21Speaker 2: you would think after a huge win like that over
- 10:23Speaker 2: your division rivals. In the locker room, right, Usually sometimes
- 10:26Speaker 2: when people talk they want to be private, but they
- 10:28Speaker 2: were in the locker room, and I couldn't hear what
- 10:30Speaker 2: they were saying, but they had the hand gestures going like, yeah,
- 10:33Speaker 2: they were clearly excited about something that they were in
- 10:36Speaker 2: tune with in the game, and they wanted to like
- 10:39Speaker 2: really reflect on that because you know, you got a
- 10:42Speaker 2: week off, you want to carry all these good vibes over.
- 10:44Speaker 2: But I thought that was a good sign.
- 10:46Speaker 3: Yeah, you never want to just make light of Well,
- 10:48Speaker 3: it was just the Giants.
- 10:49Speaker 2: It's how the Eagles won that game.
- 10:51Speaker 3: They didn't skate by even though they were missing critical
- 10:53Speaker 3: pieces like AJ Brown and Cam Jurgens. I thought that
- 10:57Speaker 3: they were very much in sync on all fascet to
- 11:00Speaker 3: the game, offense, defense, and special teams. And then you
- 11:03Speaker 3: talk about seeing Kevin Patula and Jayalen Hurts talking it
- 11:06Speaker 3: over in an engage conversation, a very positive conversation conversation,
- 11:10Speaker 3: and it seems like this is the type of win
- 11:12Speaker 3: that they can certainly build off of, and they need
- 11:14Speaker 3: to because the slate of games coming up after the
- 11:17Speaker 3: bye week doesn't get any easier.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Right as we wait on, Barrett Brooks here will be
- 11:21Speaker 2: joining us momentarily. I want to ask you this because
- 11:24Speaker 2: I can't wait to get into this the trenches.
- 11:25Speaker 4: With Barrett, and then just the overall locker room feel.
- 11:28Speaker 2: You're you're in the locker room all the time, as
- 11:30Speaker 2: far as you know your job with Inside the Birds
- 11:32Speaker 2: dot Com, which you're excellent app By the way, I'm
- 11:34Speaker 2: a little biased. Yeah, I just gonna say you might
- 11:36Speaker 2: be a little biased there, but I'm I do want
- 11:39Speaker 2: to switch gears a little bit away from the run
- 11:42Speaker 2: game and ask your honest feeling on the AJ Brown
- 11:46Speaker 2: situation right now. I mean, I feel like this is
- 11:49Speaker 2: part of the goodness of going into the buy. It's
- 11:52Speaker 2: out of the it's out of the landscape for.
- 11:53Speaker 4: A little bit.
- 11:54Speaker 2: But I mean he's clearly sending messages cryptic ones through
- 11:58Speaker 2: social media, and that's threatening the fact that the Egles
- 12:01Speaker 2: have a good thing going on right now.
- 12:03Speaker 3: Yeah, it's obviously a topic of conversation, and what I
- 12:06Speaker 3: want to first say before we delve into it, Jeff,
- 12:08Speaker 3: is that AJ Brown is beloved by his teammates. He's
- 12:11Speaker 3: very well liked. There's a reason why he's a captain,
- 12:14Speaker 3: and he very much enjoys and appreciates being a part
- 12:19Speaker 3: of the Photelph Eagles. Everything that I've gathered suggests that now.
- 12:23Speaker 3: Is that to say that Aj Brown isn't frustrated, No,
- 12:25Speaker 3: he is frustrated. He knows how he can impact the game.
- 12:30Speaker 3: There are times this season where I'm sure he would
- 12:33Speaker 3: like to be force fed the football because he knows
- 12:35Speaker 3: the impact that he can have. And sometimes you look
- 12:37Speaker 3: at an athlete and you wonder, Okay, he had two
- 12:40Speaker 3: touchdowns against the Vikings, why isn't he happy. I think
- 12:43Speaker 3: a lot of times, what makes certain people great, certain
- 12:46Speaker 3: athletes great, certain people, and what we do great is
- 12:49Speaker 3: that you're never satisfied. You always want more, and I
- 12:51Speaker 3: think that's the case with AJ Brown. He knows that
- 12:54Speaker 3: he works hard for a reason and he wants to
- 12:57Speaker 3: be a focal point of the offense in and week out,
- 13:00Speaker 3: and that's just not the way that the Eagles play football.
- 13:03Speaker 3: That's not the way that they play offensive football with
- 13:06Speaker 3: the Eagles. It could be his week one week, it
- 13:08Speaker 3: could be Devonte Smith, could be Saquon Barkley, and they're
- 13:11Speaker 3: gonna share the wealth, and I think that's something that
- 13:14Speaker 3: probably frustrates him, knowing that it's not really going to change.
- 13:17Speaker 3: This is a foundation that they've built and he's you know,
- 13:21Speaker 3: he's a.
- 13:21Speaker 5: Part of it.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I would say for his career as an Eagle,
- 13:24Speaker 2: and especially over the last few years where he's been
- 13:27Speaker 2: a little bit more frustrated with the passing offense and
- 13:30Speaker 2: it has expressed it. I have always understood exactly what
- 13:34Speaker 2: you said him where he's coming from, because you're right.
- 13:39Speaker 4: I mean, he's an all pro caliber receiver.
- 13:41Speaker 2: And there were times, even in a win, where they
- 13:44Speaker 2: would struggle offensively and he's open and the ball's not
- 13:47Speaker 2: going there. And I always thought he was at least
- 13:50Speaker 2: expressing he wasn't throwing anybody under the bus. He would
- 13:54Speaker 2: say the pass offense. He never pointed a finger at jail.
- 13:56Speaker 2: He doesn't point a fence, and then the next day
- 13:58Speaker 2: he would talk about it. But I have to say
- 14:00Speaker 2: the last one bothered me because it's a game they won.
- 14:04Speaker 2: It's a game where you had two touchdowns. It was
- 14:05Speaker 2: even the touchdown that he caught. The second one was
- 14:09Speaker 2: one of Jillen Hurts' best throws in terms of timing, anticipation,
- 14:13Speaker 2: between the numbers, window throw, like if you can't at
- 14:17Speaker 2: least be happy with some crawling before you walk right,
- 14:21Speaker 2: and then you after a big road win that snapped
- 14:24Speaker 2: a two game losing streak. That's the first time I thought,
- 14:27Speaker 2: that's not the right time in the place. And even
- 14:30Speaker 2: if you are upset, it does feel like you're throwing
- 14:33Speaker 2: teammates who performed well under the bus.
- 14:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 14:36Speaker 3: I understand that, and perception is reality, right, Yeah, But
- 14:39Speaker 3: AJ Brown's also the same player that a couple of
- 14:41Speaker 3: days after the Super Bowl he posted a photo and
- 14:43Speaker 3: was like, yeah, pretty much, I'm paraphrasing, but yeah, that
- 14:47Speaker 3: was cool, but more like what's next? And he more he,
- 14:52Speaker 3: I guess, really prioritizes and loves the process dominating the
- 14:56Speaker 3: player in front of him, and he wanted to get
- 14:58Speaker 3: back to work. I think that maybe appear behind the
- 15:01Speaker 3: curtain into the mindset of someone like AJ Brown, and
- 15:04Speaker 3: I also believe that that's what makes them great.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Absolutely, all right, we'll have to get into the defense
- 15:09Speaker 2: when we come back from the break. We have a
- 15:10Speaker 2: lot to talk about on the defense, including something Vic
- 15:13Speaker 2: Fangio said today that was like mind boggling and I
- 15:16Speaker 2: loved it. We'll get into that when we come back.
- 15:19Speaker 2: On the other side, you're listening to the Pro Football

- 16:15Speaker 2: Pete's in Marlton, New Jersey. It is time for segment
- 16:18Speaker 2: two of the Pro Football Report, and Segment two is
- 16:22Speaker 2: this week's injury review, brought to you.
- 16:24Speaker 4: By the attorneys at Bagley, Carlin and Mandyo.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Contact them today for a free consultation at two one five,
- 16:31Speaker 2: eight oh six three six eight nine. That's two one
- 16:33Speaker 2: five eight oh six three six eight nine. Again that's
- 16:36Speaker 2: big Lee Carlin and Mandio two one five ato six
- 16:39Speaker 2: three six eight nine, and we are proud to be joined,
- 16:42Speaker 2: excited to be joined. He is a star on NBC
- 16:46Speaker 2: Sports Philadelphia. He also played in the NFL for the Eagles.
- 16:50Speaker 2: He was an offensive lineman and a damn good one.
- 16:52Speaker 5: Barrett Brooks, I appreciate the checkers in the mail, bro
- 16:55Speaker 5: the checkers in a mail.
- 16:56Speaker 2: I will be checking in immediately. We hang out, Vemo brother.
- 16:59Speaker 4: There we go.
- 16:59Speaker 5: There we got new way ven bo. Yeah, the Vin
- 17:02Speaker 5: Bollo was on his way. Welcome to the show, my friend,
- 17:04Speaker 5: Thank you, thank you.
- 17:05Speaker 2: We were talking before in the first segment about the
- 17:08Speaker 2: rediscovery of the run game, and so the storyline is
- 17:14Speaker 2: gonna be Wow. The Eagles went under center, and Andrew
- 17:16Speaker 2: and I were saying, yeah, that's that's a nice wrinkle.
- 17:18Speaker 4: It was fun.
- 17:19Speaker 2: It didn't really spring the run game against Minnesota. But
- 17:22Speaker 2: what was really interesting to see, Barrett, was the execution
- 17:27Speaker 2: of the offensive line, whether under center, shotgun, pistol, triple wing,
- 17:32Speaker 2: whatever you call it, want to call it, they executed
- 17:34Speaker 2: it in a way.
- 17:34Speaker 5: We haven't seen. And that's the biggest thing. I think
- 17:36Speaker 5: it's more so a mindset more so than anything. They
- 17:39Speaker 5: went out there with a ship on their shoulder. They
- 17:41Speaker 5: got beat up and out physical by a Giants team
- 17:44Speaker 5: a couple weeks before, so they took it personal to
- 17:46Speaker 5: this time. But they got to take this mindset from
- 17:48Speaker 5: this point on for the rest of the season. I
- 17:50Speaker 5: think them, since they saw that, I think they are
- 17:53Speaker 5: gonna change. I'm not saying that they had anything residual
- 17:56Speaker 5: from last year, like all right, you better bow down
- 17:58Speaker 5: to us because we won the Super Bowl. That doesn't
- 18:00Speaker 5: do anything but put uh, you know, an X on.
- 18:03Speaker 5: You know, now you're the hunted. So they finally realized that, Okay, then,
- 18:07Speaker 5: yes we're probably the most talented team in the NFL.
- 18:09Speaker 5: But it takes an attitude of mindset. You just got
- 18:12Speaker 5: to be a tough SOB man when you you know,
- 18:14Speaker 5: when you're an office alignment and you're playing against teams
- 18:16Speaker 5: defense too, you know those guys are learning also. So
- 18:19Speaker 5: it's just to me a mindset that changed and clicked form.
- 18:22Speaker 2: In this game.
- 18:23Speaker 3: Barret Brett Toath made his first NFL start at center
- 18:26Speaker 3: Sunday afternoon. What was your takeaway on his performance?
- 18:29Speaker 5: I have beat up on Brett Toath since he was
- 18:32Speaker 5: playing this season. Else it's not just you. And it
- 18:36Speaker 5: was deservedly so deservedly so. He looked absolutely horrible. In fact,
- 18:40Speaker 5: the Giants game, he probably no not he probably he
- 18:43Speaker 5: played the worst I've seen a guard play because he
- 18:46Speaker 5: just wasn't aggressive enough. He just didn't take the fight
- 18:49Speaker 5: to the defenders. And that's why Burns and those guys
- 18:52Speaker 5: had such an amazing game. They ran the same te
- 18:55Speaker 5: stunt three times for three sacks. So and it's as
- 18:59Speaker 5: part of him not being a rest enough, not hitting
- 19:01Speaker 5: the guy you know that's over him at the point
- 19:03Speaker 5: of attack and stopping his momentum just enough to allow
- 19:07Speaker 5: you know, Jordan Mailatta to get into him and push
- 19:10Speaker 5: him into the loop and guy going inside. Well, he
- 19:13Speaker 5: didn't do that, right, So Sinsy didn't do it. They said,
- 19:15Speaker 5: all right, we can beat you with that, and that's
- 19:18Speaker 5: exactly what they did. They just kept running it. He
- 19:20Speaker 5: just wasn't grossing out. He was sent like attackle on
- 19:21Speaker 5: instead of the guard. Well, this game at center number one,
- 19:25Speaker 5: he knew exactly what he needed to do, how he
- 19:27Speaker 5: needed to execute it. But a great thing is he
- 19:30Speaker 5: also knew where the ball was supposed to go, too,
- 19:32Speaker 5: so he made the right calls on where guys were
- 19:34Speaker 5: lined up in the mic and everything else. He had
- 19:36Speaker 5: everybody on the same page. He was a totally different
- 19:39Speaker 5: player from what I saw the previous weeks when he
- 19:41Speaker 5: was in at guard.
- 19:42Speaker 3: Which is interesting because you and I were a training
- 19:44Speaker 3: camp and he repped mostly at guard, so you would
- 19:47Speaker 3: think that that would be the more natural position for
- 19:49Speaker 3: him and not center. But he looked more comfortable at center.
- 19:52Speaker 5: Bro Man, you looked at him, snapped the ball horrendously
- 19:55Speaker 5: in shotgun. I'm like, how is he a center? He
- 19:58Speaker 5: can't snap? But he comes out this game and was
- 20:01Speaker 5: was automatic. I mean, I thought Cam was in for
- 20:04Speaker 5: a minute.
- 20:04Speaker 1: You know.
- 20:04Speaker 5: He played that well, and.
- 20:06Speaker 3: He looked good in space getting out there, and I
- 20:09Speaker 3: think that showcased a little bit of his athleticism, and
- 20:12Speaker 3: that's something that the Eagles can build on if they
- 20:14Speaker 3: need him for the at least in the short term.
- 20:16Speaker 5: Well that's what Brett Toath is, you know. I mean,
- 20:18Speaker 5: I was talking to Rube Uh, you know, one of
- 20:20Speaker 5: my you know, co hosts of at NBC, and Rube said,
- 20:23Speaker 5: during his whole time in Army. When he was playing,
- 20:26Speaker 5: he passed the ball I think seventeen times either eleven
- 20:29Speaker 5: or seventeen times yep, during his career. Now another you know,
- 20:33Speaker 5: Jeff Staalin coach Stallin university. Guy that graduates and becomes
- 20:37Speaker 5: a great office line because he taught him how to
- 20:38Speaker 5: pass blog. He was a good athlete, but he was
- 20:41Speaker 5: a tackle and he you know, he couldn't gain any
- 20:43Speaker 5: weight because he was in you know Armed service, you know,
- 20:46Speaker 5: for sure services.
- 20:47Speaker 3: He was like two seventy, right, so.
- 20:49Speaker 5: He couldn't gain because they had to go pet and
- 20:51Speaker 5: everything else. But then he comes here, gains a little weight,
- 20:54Speaker 5: gets stronger, but then he learns the you know stuff
- 20:57Speaker 5: that he needs to be in for a great offense lineman.
- 21:00Speaker 5: And that's exactly what he did. He learned how to
- 21:03Speaker 5: pass block. And you know he must have been good
- 21:05Speaker 5: because he's been a Stotland University. I mean he's in
- 21:07Speaker 5: his super senior year, you.
- 21:09Speaker 3: Know, the Scottish Masters.
- 21:12Speaker 2: He's almost he's almost getting his what's the one after.
- 21:15Speaker 5: The COVID Yeah, but he got COVID year coming back.
- 21:19Speaker 5: This is the third time with the team exactly, so
- 21:22Speaker 5: I mean he evidently they saw something in him, and
- 21:24Speaker 5: I finally saw what they saw on some in them.
- 21:25Speaker 5: And it was a short time while I'm thinking, man,
- 21:27Speaker 5: he must have pictures of coach Stalin or you know,
- 21:30Speaker 5: the owner or something, you know, because why did they
- 21:32Speaker 5: keep bringing him back? But they proved he proved to
- 21:34Speaker 5: me this game why they brought him back. He was
- 21:35Speaker 5: pretty good.
- 21:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I want to ask you this because you won
- 21:38Speaker 2: a Super Bowl with the Steelers, right, and were you
- 21:41Speaker 2: back with them the next year?
- 21:42Speaker 5: I was trying to remember I was back with him
- 21:44Speaker 5: the next year. I just happened to have a catastrophic
- 21:48Speaker 5: season career ending injury. I rippen my quad muscle for
- 21:50Speaker 5: my knee.
- 21:51Speaker 2: You remember us talking about that. So I never really
- 21:54Speaker 2: believed in the whole Super Bowl hangover thing. But I've
- 21:59Speaker 2: been trying to figure out and maybe we all have,
- 22:01Speaker 2: like the lack of execution just from the old line
- 22:05Speaker 2: and the and the offense for the first seven weeks.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Why and when we know, we know Dickerson has been
- 22:09Speaker 2: banged up, and we know Jerkins banged up, and you
- 22:12Speaker 2: watch it takes to you saw my alta just uncharacteristically
- 22:16Speaker 2: missing some blocks, even laying like as a unit. I
- 22:19Speaker 2: just couldn't figure out why, guys that you're accustomed to
- 22:21Speaker 2: making these blocks almost routine and just weren't doing it.
- 22:25Speaker 5: And that's the bad part about the most Do you
- 22:27Speaker 5: believe the super Bowl hangover? It's not a super Bowl hangover.
- 22:32Speaker 5: It was more so I'm the big kid on the block.
- 22:35Speaker 5: Respect me and everybody else is looking from down and
- 22:38Speaker 5: looking up, and they're like, all right, we circled your
- 22:41Speaker 5: game on our, on our, on our you're the hunter
- 22:44Speaker 5: and and because of that, since we started again, you're
- 22:47Speaker 5: gonna get our best, so you know, and all actually
- 22:49Speaker 5: why they're gonna play in seventeen super Bowls before we
- 22:52Speaker 5: be making to the playoffs. You're everybody's super Bowl. If
- 22:54Speaker 5: they beat you, it's like, you know, it's like showing that,
- 22:57Speaker 5: all right, we've arrived. We we are now a good team.
- 23:00Speaker 5: You look at how Denver's approached their season after they
- 23:03Speaker 5: beat us, everybody's talking about them as being one of
- 23:05Speaker 5: the best teams in their division. You know, in an
- 23:08Speaker 5: NFL after they beat us, you need to hear more
- 23:11Speaker 5: about them. After they beat us, Well, it's the same thing.
- 23:13Speaker 5: You know, you're always going to be the hunted. Now
- 23:16Speaker 5: and they finally realize, all right, we've got to get
- 23:18Speaker 5: our act together because people are whooping us, they're bringing
- 23:21Speaker 5: it to us. And once that mindset changes, all right,
- 23:23Speaker 5: then you know you want to fight. Let's go. We're
- 23:26Speaker 5: gonna go out and pick a fight. And they finally
- 23:27Speaker 5: picked the fight this game.
- 23:28Speaker 2: And I imagine like subconsciously, as an athlete, you don't
- 23:31Speaker 2: realize that you're not playing at that hungry level you
- 23:35Speaker 2: used to play until you get humbled and lose two
- 23:37Speaker 2: games in.
- 23:37Speaker 5: A row and until you get hit in the mouth,
- 23:40Speaker 5: you know, and they're like, oh wait, wait, wait, wait, wait,
- 23:43Speaker 5: we're the Eagles. You can't do us like this, but like, yeah,
- 23:47Speaker 5: we're gonna do you like this because this is how
- 23:49Speaker 5: we become the big kids on the block.
- 23:51Speaker 2: That's right, all right, So this is supposed to be
- 23:52Speaker 2: the injury segment. Let's go get to this really quickly.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Obviously the bye weeks on Saquon Barkley did leave the
- 23:58Speaker 2: game where a growing injury.
- 24:00Speaker 3: He did talk after the Yeah, he said he said
- 24:03Speaker 3: he could have went back in if they needed him to,
- 24:05Speaker 3: and that it shouldn't really be an issue.
- 24:07Speaker 2: So the bye wee comes at a very good time,
- 24:08Speaker 2: great time, Yes, great time. You know, we need the
- 24:11Speaker 2: Eagles without some key starters or Tory Jackson a J.
- 24:15Speaker 4: Brown with a hamstring.
- 24:16Speaker 2: And then.
- 24:18Speaker 5: Of course and hopefully we get back Nolan Smith. He
- 24:21Speaker 5: gets the heat off the edge, so maybe he comes
- 24:23Speaker 5: off that now and maybe we get Bennett also, you
- 24:26Speaker 5: know Benn and see what he can do in a secondary.
- 24:29Speaker 3: Yeah, there should be three reinforcements coming, Brandon Graham, Nolan
- 24:32Speaker 3: Smith and Ja Cory and Bennett. Yes, yes, so I
- 24:35Speaker 3: think you have to feel pretty good about that, and
- 24:36Speaker 3: you can build off of that. And now you're getting
- 24:38Speaker 3: some help.
- 24:38Speaker 4: I'm not gonna lie.
- 24:39Speaker 2: Given Vic Fangio's history of not giving it. You know what,
- 24:42Speaker 2: I totally thought Brandon Graham was gonna be out there.
- 24:45Speaker 3: I asked him about Brandon Graham today. Uh huh, he said,
- 24:49Speaker 3: he said, he he was okay. He goes, he was okay,
- 24:51Speaker 3: better than I thought, and he goes. I'm starting to
- 24:53Speaker 3: think that he can help us.
- 24:54Speaker 5: Here, you know, you know, just from talking to guys
- 24:57Speaker 5: and you know, around locker room, you know, just a
- 24:59Speaker 5: little you know, I call him intimate talks, you know,
- 25:01Speaker 5: and they're saying that BG, he's going to be able
- 25:04Speaker 5: to give us. You know, ten to twelve play ten
- 25:06Speaker 5: to twelve reps a game. I'll tell him, shot take
- 25:08Speaker 5: me out of retirement too. You know, I can give
- 25:10Speaker 5: you five to seven reps like nine on seven. But
- 25:14Speaker 5: that you know what now that I said that didn't
- 25:18Speaker 5: even sound right coming on my health.
- 25:19Speaker 2: No, no, no, I'm only asking because Todd Harriman's we
- 25:23Speaker 2: had him on the show recently kind of said the
- 25:25Speaker 2: same thing.
- 25:26Speaker 4: He said, maybe I could do three to five reps.
- 25:28Speaker 4: But my question is against who exactly you want three?
- 25:32Speaker 4: Can you do five against Miles Garrett?
- 25:33Speaker 5: No, I was talking about gets you motion, you know
- 25:35Speaker 5: what I'm saying. I'm talking, Yeah, that's what now, But
- 25:38Speaker 5: those guys a bigger, stronger fashion. I'm too old, man,
- 25:40Speaker 5: I'm a half a century already. Man, So I can
- 25:42Speaker 5: do Todd, he probably can do it. You know, he's
- 25:44Speaker 5: slimmed up a lot. You know, he's probably still in shape,
- 25:46Speaker 5: probably running around and stuff.
- 25:48Speaker 4: He might be abtle too, slimmed up now, right right, kind.
- 25:51Speaker 5: Of looking like Kelsey. Kelsey slimmed up a lot too.
- 25:53Speaker 5: So yeah, but you know, I just think that you
- 25:56Speaker 5: know him coming back and you know the way he
- 25:58Speaker 5: finished his career in that Super Bowl. He was lighting
- 26:02Speaker 5: people up. Man, he was. He still has it. But
- 26:05Speaker 5: I think the big thing he's gonna teach these guys
- 26:07Speaker 5: how to finish. That's what's the problem. He didn't know
- 26:10Speaker 5: how to finish when he first got in the league.
- 26:11Speaker 5: That's why he kind of struggled. These guys aren't at
- 26:14Speaker 5: that level. They're finishing yet. Maybe he can teach them
- 26:16Speaker 5: how to finish because Mike tried to teach him them,
- 26:19Speaker 5: and then they can turn around, they can start finishing
- 26:21Speaker 5: the deal, getting sacks and you know, making big plays.
- 26:23Speaker 3: It's funny you mentioned that, Barret, because I had some
- 26:25Speaker 3: really good conversation with Zadarius Smith and he was saying
- 26:28Speaker 3: how he was telling a lot of the young edge rushers,
- 26:31Speaker 3: you know, don't get infatuated with sacks, because then you're
- 26:34Speaker 3: gonna it's gonna get in your head and you're gonna
- 26:36Speaker 3: miss the ones that are the players that are in
- 26:37Speaker 3: front of you.
- 26:38Speaker 2: And he said he pretty much had he had to
- 26:40Speaker 2: establish that with them.
- 26:42Speaker 5: You're absolutely right, man, because when you're looking to do that,
- 26:46Speaker 5: that's when you're not gonna get it. But like when
- 26:47Speaker 5: you're when you're out there and you're going through your assignments,
- 26:51Speaker 5: your technique and doing things the way you're supposed to
- 26:53Speaker 5: do it, they fall into a laugh and a lot
- 26:55Speaker 5: of times that's what happened. Look at beg He actually
- 26:59Speaker 5: won the game, the Rams game against you know when
- 27:01Speaker 5: we played the Rams. Yeah, but you know you talk
- 27:03Speaker 5: about that jet suite that he caught in the backfield
- 27:05Speaker 5: for a tackle for loss. That was a huge play. Yeah,
- 27:08Speaker 5: so you know that those you know, little things like
- 27:10Speaker 5: that and the sack at the end of the game.
- 27:11Speaker 5: Those are the little things, right that you don't really
- 27:14Speaker 5: check out and you don't really notice because he's an
- 27:17Speaker 5: older guy. But I mean he played well enough that
- 27:19Speaker 5: he he saved us a lot.
- 27:20Speaker 2: That Rams game last year may have been one of
- 27:22Speaker 2: Brandon Graham's best games year. He was he was domin
- 27:26Speaker 2: I forget the Adam kappanolways makes fun of the right
- 27:28Speaker 2: tackle who how to go in and play that day.
- 27:29Speaker 2: It was a backup goodwin. I think I don't know
- 27:32Speaker 2: who it was.
- 27:34Speaker 4: Brandon Graham must have been licking his chops because he
- 27:38Speaker 4: did save that game for them.
- 27:39Speaker 2: Oh no, that was his best game of the season
- 27:41Speaker 2: by far. Yeah, real quick, before we get to the
- 27:43Speaker 2: other side, here. I want to dovetail from what you're
- 27:47Speaker 2: talking about not chasing sacks or believing that sacks means
- 27:50Speaker 2: you're great, because what Vic Fangel said today when asked
- 27:53Speaker 2: about getting five sacks was that the rush could have
- 27:56Speaker 2: been better. And you know what, you watch the game
- 27:59Speaker 2: kind of I feel like Jackson didn't ran himself. He
- 28:03Speaker 2: was seeing ghost out there because he had the ball
- 28:05Speaker 2: a couple of times, four or five sacks and seconds
- 28:08Speaker 2: and he ran himself into Jordan davis first sack. He
- 28:11Speaker 2: ran himself into somebody else whereas I think Vick is
- 28:14Speaker 2: still waiting.
- 28:15Speaker 5: For the reason I'm glad we're talking about, to really.
- 28:18Speaker 2: Get the pressure that he doesn't have to continue to
- 28:21Speaker 2: manufacture with simms and exactly.
- 28:23Speaker 5: Yeah, and I'm glad you saw that. You said that,
- 28:25Speaker 5: and you saw that because it's not necessarily getting no sacks.
- 28:28Speaker 5: You had to play a game in which you had
- 28:30Speaker 5: the mush rush rush mush rush meeting. You get the
- 28:33Speaker 5: quarterback level. As the defense ends on the outside. You
- 28:35Speaker 5: got to make sure he trace stay, keep him inside
- 28:38Speaker 5: the pocket. They kept him inside the pocket, which allowed
- 28:40Speaker 5: them to make some you know, hay On that if
- 28:42Speaker 5: you go out there and just want sacks and things
- 28:44Speaker 5: and sacks. That's when you overrun him. That's when he
- 28:47Speaker 5: gets the lanes because you're not doing your job. When
- 28:50Speaker 5: you do your job and you're getting sacks, that's when
- 28:52Speaker 5: it works.
- 28:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I thought Jlyx could have had another one and
- 28:54Speaker 3: josh Usha could have had it easily too. Right on
- 28:59Speaker 3: that play where got hurt. He was right there on
- 29:02Speaker 3: Jackson done.
- 29:02Speaker 4: So he had a sack but missed two. That's minus one.
- 29:06Speaker 2: But VIC called him neutral today, so maybe the maybe
- 29:08Speaker 2: he's actually all right.
- 29:09Speaker 3: Well, he had one that looked like it was a
- 29:11Speaker 3: force fumble and they didn't they didn't count.
- 29:12Speaker 4: That's true, right right, there's your net neutral.
- 29:15Speaker 5: Aw there you go.
- 29:17Speaker 4: You got a love a defensive coordinator saying, you.
- 29:19Speaker 5: Know, any a breath of fresh air man because it
- 29:21Speaker 5: is sports. Gave us nothing, yes, absolutely nothing, absolutely.
- 29:25Speaker 2: Well, a lot of good baseball analogies from Jim.
- 29:27Speaker 5: There you go.
- 29:28Speaker 4: Not good Eagles defense once.
- 29:30Speaker 2: All right. That was this week's injury review again, brought
- 29:33Speaker 2: to you by the attorneys at Bigley, Carlin and Mandio.
- 29:36Speaker 2: Contact them today for a free consultation at two point
- 29:39Speaker 2: five eight oh six three.
- 29:40Speaker 4: Six eight nine.
- 29:42Speaker 2: We gotta take a break, but we will be back.
- 29:45Speaker 2: It's the Pro Football Report, presented by BCWSA right here

- 31:00Speaker 5: Once again.
- 31:01Speaker 4: Here are your hosts from.
- 31:02Speaker 1: Inside the Birds Jeff Mosher and Andrew did check O.
- 31:08Speaker 2: That's right. And we also are joined by former Eagles
- 31:11Speaker 2: offensive lineman Barrett Brooks. You see him on NBC Sports
- 31:15Speaker 2: breaking down the Birds NBC Sports Philadelphia, alongside good friend
- 31:20Speaker 2: of Inside the Birds Jason Levon. You guys having fun there.
- 31:22Speaker 5: I mean love Jason. You know, it took me a
- 31:24Speaker 5: long time to get him on man, and you know,
- 31:26Speaker 5: just talking about me and him already have chemistry. We
- 31:28Speaker 5: also have a show called Players Only. Yeah, hut, players only?
- 31:31Speaker 5: But I mean, I love his aspect. We never we
- 31:34Speaker 5: almost never agree, but we agree because we're you know,
- 31:38Speaker 5: ex players, But we see things a little different. I
- 31:40Speaker 5: see things from a broader aspect.
- 31:42Speaker 2: You know.
- 31:42Speaker 5: He thinks, you know, like AJ's. You know, he knows everything.
- 31:46Speaker 5: You know what I mean?
- 31:47Speaker 4: Are you saying there's another deep and wide receiver?
- 31:51Speaker 5: Oh my goodness, you know, I mean he is. That's
- 31:53Speaker 5: my boy.
- 31:53Speaker 2: Man.
- 31:54Speaker 5: He's a great man. I love his inside. I love
- 31:56Speaker 5: how he approaches the game and he sees it from
- 31:58Speaker 5: a different way than I do me is you know,
- 32:00Speaker 5: three yards and cloud of dust. Run the ball in him.
- 32:02Speaker 5: He wants to get that ball sailing.
- 32:04Speaker 1: You know.
- 32:04Speaker 2: Yes, well let's let's let's let's go to pedigree here.
- 32:07Speaker 2: He played for Andy Reid. Absolutely, you played for Bill Caller. Yeah,
- 32:12Speaker 2: so if you played for a guy who wants to
- 32:13Speaker 2: just run and pound you in the mouth, and he
- 32:15Speaker 2: played for a guy he wants to pass the ball
- 32:16Speaker 2: over and we go.
- 32:17Speaker 5: Back and forth with that all the time. He j
- 32:19Speaker 5: is the best player on the team. I say, just
- 32:21Speaker 5: no question about that.
- 32:22Speaker 2: I feel you on that.
- 32:23Speaker 5: But when you look at it, you got to run
- 32:25Speaker 5: the ball. You gotta tend to rize him, you gotta
- 32:26Speaker 5: beat him down. Then we'll throw the ball.
- 32:30Speaker 2: Plus in college, you're a Kansas State guy, yes, yes, yes,
- 32:34Speaker 2: And so that's a Bill Snyder operation.
- 32:36Speaker 5: I was his second second class. He brought in that state.
- 32:39Speaker 2: You know.
- 32:39Speaker 5: So I was part of the biggest turnaround in college
- 32:42Speaker 5: football history.
- 32:42Speaker 2: And he was a run game proponent as well. Loved
- 32:45Speaker 2: it love.
- 32:45Speaker 5: I mean, he had you know Michael Bishop, those guys. Yes,
- 32:51Speaker 5: they did things, you know, running the rock and then
- 32:54Speaker 5: you know he turned us around. They had won a
- 32:56Speaker 5: game in five years until we got there. And then
- 32:59Speaker 5: when we got there, you know, we averaged like ten years,
- 33:01Speaker 5: I mean ten games my last three years being there,
- 33:04Speaker 5: So he did change things around.
- 33:07Speaker 2: I do want to ask you because I remember when
- 33:10Speaker 2: you first started working for NBC Sports Philadelphia.
- 33:13Speaker 4: I was there.
- 33:13Speaker 2: We worked together, we dislute together. That was really your
- 33:16Speaker 2: first you had called radio, you call college football games.
- 33:20Speaker 2: I know you had done some media, but that was
- 33:21Speaker 2: really you coming into your own as an analyst, right
- 33:24Speaker 2: someone in front of a camera.
- 33:26Speaker 4: And we would have a lot of conversations. I was
- 33:28Speaker 4: sort of new to that as well.
- 33:29Speaker 2: But three years in and now I watch you analyzing
- 33:33Speaker 2: the game very comfortable, like really understanding how to not
- 33:38Speaker 2: only analyze the game, but explain it to an audience
- 33:40Speaker 2: that may not understand x's and knows really well.
- 33:45Speaker 4: You know, I'm really I'm really proud of where.
- 33:47Speaker 2: You come from.
- 33:48Speaker 5: Not from me, no, for real, man, you were there
- 33:50Speaker 5: with my start. Man when I first got there, you
- 33:52Speaker 5: were already there, you already established. I got there.
- 33:54Speaker 4: I remember you were asking me for tips and I'm like,
- 33:56Speaker 4: I'm not sure I'm the guy.
- 33:57Speaker 5: That's good because I didn't know, you know, I'm I
- 34:00Speaker 5: get on there. I remember, you know, had a two
- 34:02Speaker 5: hour show breaks on Broad two hour show, and that
- 34:04Speaker 5: first week I might have said fifty words the entire show.
- 34:07Speaker 5: We're talking about two hours for five days, and I
- 34:10Speaker 5: might have said fifty words the entire week. Wow, the
- 34:13Speaker 5: entire week.
- 34:13Speaker 2: Man.
- 34:14Speaker 5: It took a while for me to really get comfortable.
- 34:16Speaker 5: And it had a lot to do it, you know,
- 34:18Speaker 5: reading the prompter was I'm like, come on now, I mean,
- 34:21Speaker 5: I can't read the prompter and this is crazy here
- 34:23Speaker 5: I have I have a I have a you know,
- 34:24Speaker 5: an NBA in health and her administration, but I can't read.
- 34:29Speaker 5: And the reason it's different, man, because you got to read,
- 34:31Speaker 5: like you're not reading number one but number two. You
- 34:35Speaker 5: gotta be fluent with it, you know. And it was
- 34:37Speaker 5: it took what it took a lot of reading my
- 34:39Speaker 5: Bible in the bathroom and and hearing it in the
- 34:41Speaker 5: bathroom to get really where I needed to be.
- 34:44Speaker 3: And now you and I get to get a chance
- 34:45Speaker 3: to talk on the air sometimes when I'm on with doing.
- 34:47Speaker 5: Ricky, I love it, man, love it, I mean, and
- 34:50Speaker 5: going a great job also, manant and I try to
- 34:53Speaker 5: stay out the way with that you know, you give me,
- 34:55Speaker 5: you give me the mic and let me go. But
- 34:57Speaker 5: then you know, dealing with Ricky Man, it's tough. Man,
- 34:59Speaker 5: I don't see you.
- 35:02Speaker 4: The same mind.
- 35:03Speaker 2: Sometimes got close over the last year or so.
- 35:07Speaker 5: Man, we're very close. But he just he is a
- 35:11Speaker 5: fireball man and I love his passion. And it's not
- 35:14Speaker 5: just he's not just a baseball guy, baseball, football, hockey.
- 35:18Speaker 5: He does it all.
- 35:19Speaker 2: Man.
- 35:19Speaker 5: You know, he's very good.
- 35:21Speaker 4: That's proud of him.
- 35:22Speaker 2: I'll tell you, well, we'll get back to the Eagles
- 35:23Speaker 2: one sec. But this is an interesting topic because my
- 35:26Speaker 2: first actual I think show when I when that when
- 35:29Speaker 2: I started to do more TV at NBC Sports Philly
- 35:32Speaker 2: was with Jamal Jackson and Ray Didninger and Ron Brooke
- 35:36Speaker 2: was the host, and it was a tape breakdown show.
- 35:38Speaker 4: So we would in the morning go to the green
- 35:41Speaker 4: room and rewatch the game.
- 35:43Speaker 2: And this is before NFL pro like you literally got
- 35:45Speaker 2: to watch the TV copy and do the best you
- 35:47Speaker 2: can and break it apart.
- 35:49Speaker 4: A couple of great producers and then.
- 35:51Speaker 2: We write the script, were picked the plays that we
- 35:53Speaker 2: were going to go through, and then hours later we
- 35:58Speaker 2: would shoot the show like six clock live right and yep,
- 36:02Speaker 2: to remember all the plays that are gonna be, you know,
- 36:05Speaker 2: in that sequence and what happened was a real challenge
- 36:09Speaker 2: for me, especially if I was spending the rest of
- 36:11Speaker 2: their writing stories, Like I wasn't dedicated to that show. Yeah,
- 36:16Speaker 2: And there were times on TV where I was just
- 36:19Speaker 2: it's like a quarterback getting stuck in the pocket. I
- 36:22Speaker 2: was like, not exactly sure what the next footage that
- 36:26Speaker 2: we put out, and I was looking down and and
- 36:28Speaker 2: eventually we got it.
- 36:29Speaker 4: But it's just just an experience, Like I love it.
- 36:32Speaker 2: You said you're in the bathroom like with your Bible
- 36:34Speaker 2: trying to figure it out.
- 36:36Speaker 4: I got that.
- 36:36Speaker 2: Man.
- 36:37Speaker 5: Well, if you ask me, man, if you take studio
- 36:40Speaker 5: shows you do calling college football games, I think I
- 36:43Speaker 5: love college football games the most because it's right there,
- 36:46Speaker 5: the actions right there, and I pride myself on being
- 36:48Speaker 5: able to break it down so my grandmother could understand
- 36:50Speaker 5: what I'm saying. Sure, So when I sit down, I
- 36:52Speaker 5: break it on cover two, I'm like, yeah, you got
- 36:54Speaker 5: two high safeties. You got the corners on the outside,
- 36:56Speaker 5: and watch them. I could tell his cover too because
- 36:58Speaker 5: they squatted, but it was a nine route when it
- 37:00Speaker 5: was straight going down the field that he's got a
- 37:02Speaker 5: latch up to him. So it looks like man, but
- 37:03Speaker 5: it's not. So I try to make sure that they
- 37:05Speaker 5: can understand it. And you know, be a guy that
- 37:09Speaker 5: you know, I don't talk about I see people to
- 37:10Speaker 5: Oh you know, they were cover too. You know, when
- 37:12Speaker 5: we have the two verticals coming, people don't want to
- 37:14Speaker 5: hear that, you know what I'm saying. People want to
- 37:16Speaker 5: be able to talk about it at you know, the
- 37:18Speaker 5: local watering hole or at the barber shop, or you know,
- 37:21Speaker 5: just sitting there when they're you know, at the water
- 37:23Speaker 5: coool a work.
- 37:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I've actually learned a lot from watching how you
- 37:26Speaker 3: operate because it is broadcasting and I can't just assume
- 37:29Speaker 3: that everyone has an idea of what.
- 37:31Speaker 5: You know, we're talking about twelve personnel.
- 37:36Speaker 4: I have to explain that.
- 37:37Speaker 2: Yet when I write what I see, you know, I
- 37:39Speaker 2: do these films and I write twelve personnel, I'm always
- 37:42Speaker 2: in parentheses.
- 37:42Speaker 4: Ready two tight ends too.
- 37:45Speaker 5: And you know it's like you gotta do it.
- 37:48Speaker 2: You do, absolutely do all right, let's let's so, let's
- 37:51Speaker 2: take it back to the Eagles and flip the switch.
- 37:54Speaker 2: We were talking about Fangio yep, not really thrilled with
- 37:56Speaker 2: the past run. I mean, he wasn't upset. He was
- 37:58Speaker 2: just saying it wasn't like five sax. We were just
- 38:01Speaker 2: beating guys one on one all day long. What is
- 38:04Speaker 2: this defense? After he can I want both of your
- 38:06Speaker 2: opinions to start with your back.
- 38:08Speaker 4: What is this defense?
- 38:10Speaker 5: I think this defense is a I don't necessarily think
- 38:12Speaker 5: it's a bend but not break. I think he has
- 38:15Speaker 5: so many talented players in different positions that he's trying
- 38:18Speaker 5: to hide certain players. So in the midst of them
- 38:21Speaker 5: hiding certain players, he didn't want to call and take
- 38:23Speaker 5: out his full gambit of everything that he has to,
- 38:26Speaker 5: you know, to to really stop offenses. So because of that,
- 38:29Speaker 5: I think he's playing a little bit of cat and
- 38:30Speaker 5: mouse trying to get these guys in great positions. Because
- 38:33Speaker 5: I mean I sat there and watched three teams in
- 38:36Speaker 5: a row picked on that corner opposite of Quinnyon. I
- 38:40Speaker 5: mean three games in a row I saw. I mean,
- 38:42Speaker 5: they broke it down. They they they maximized whoever was
- 38:46Speaker 5: out there, and they had you know, very productive, you
- 38:49Speaker 5: know game plans to do that. So he's had to
- 38:51Speaker 5: find a way to get them and hide them, you know,
- 38:54Speaker 5: so I think now if guy start playing a little better,
- 38:56Speaker 5: he get a little pass for us, he can then take,
- 38:58Speaker 5: you know, take the handcuffs off, start doing what he
- 39:00Speaker 5: really wants to do.
- 39:02Speaker 3: Yeah, Vic Vanjo has had to apply a lot more
- 39:04Speaker 3: pressure than he has in the past because they haven't
- 39:06Speaker 3: been able to get home with regularity traditionally. So you're
- 39:09Speaker 3: seeing his hands tied. To sort of allude to what
- 39:13Speaker 3: Barrett's saying here, you're having to find different ways to
- 39:16Speaker 3: manufacture pressure. And also you have to keep in mind
- 39:19Speaker 3: that it's a young defense. Yeah, so there's a lot
- 39:21Speaker 3: of players like Drew mccuba for example. There's been some
- 39:24Speaker 3: busted coverages. There's been some mistackles, but you can see
- 39:28Speaker 3: whether it's Drew mccuba Jahad Campbell. They're getting better every week,
- 39:32Speaker 3: and I think they're starting to hit their stride. They're
- 39:34Speaker 3: starting to find out what they want to do, and
- 39:36Speaker 3: he's figuring out how to maximize his personnel going into
- 39:39Speaker 3: the bye week.
- 39:40Speaker 2: I think watching this year's defense has given me And
- 39:42Speaker 2: this is not meant to be disrespectful because I agree
- 39:45Speaker 2: with what you guys are saying. There's levels of it
- 39:48Speaker 2: that just aren't the same as last year, and that
- 39:50Speaker 2: it's gonna happen every single year, Right.
- 39:53Speaker 4: It gives me a respect that I for.
- 39:56Speaker 2: The last year's defense, which going into the year, I
- 39:59Speaker 2: don't think we knew how much of a killer Milton Williams.
- 40:03Speaker 4: We knew he was a good player, he.
- 40:04Speaker 2: Was a killera he was the defense at point. And
- 40:08Speaker 2: same thing with Josh Sweat. He really started to come
- 40:10Speaker 2: on Sweat especially what I mean, and you put those
- 40:13Speaker 2: two guys in that four man rush Vic almost never
- 40:15Speaker 2: had two blitz no, right, and now you're seeing them
- 40:18Speaker 2: blitz at a much higher rate this year against certain teams.
- 40:20Speaker 2: He didn't do it much against the Giants because he
- 40:22Speaker 2: didn't feel like he had to. But second corner, you know,
- 40:25Speaker 2: I mean Darius slay.
- 40:28Speaker 5: One of them, you know, he want to slay Rogers
- 40:30Speaker 5: one of them to you.
- 40:31Speaker 4: Know, right, right, And even even CJ.
- 40:33Speaker 2: Gardner Johnson for all the for all of his year
- 40:36Speaker 2: this year that that he has not been able to
- 40:38Speaker 2: lay he was about right about.
- 40:41Speaker 3: I agree with the decision to draft Drew mccoba in
- 40:44Speaker 3: the second.
- 40:44Speaker 2: Round and kind of move on from CJ.
- 40:46Speaker 4: You have to do that.
- 40:47Speaker 3: You also have to understand that when you draft a
- 40:48Speaker 3: young player like that, especially in a pass happy league,
- 40:51Speaker 3: there's going to be growing paints. And he's been really
- 40:53Speaker 3: accountable for that and I think he's starting to grow.
- 40:56Speaker 5: Yeah, and he kind of relied on guys you know
- 40:59Speaker 5: that hadn't really proven himself, but they so flashes last year.
- 41:03Speaker 5: You know, I mean you look at you know Hunt,
- 41:06Speaker 5: I mean, you take a guy who's only played the
- 41:07Speaker 5: defensive position three years.
- 41:09Speaker 3: Yeah, he was the safety at Cornell not long ago, right.
- 41:11Speaker 5: So you know, I mean here he is, you know,
- 41:13Speaker 5: now rushing the passer, and he finally started you know,
- 41:16Speaker 5: grow out a little bit in this last game. You
- 41:19Speaker 5: look at uh, you know, look at you know, Jahid Campbell.
- 41:21Speaker 5: I mean, the kid is you know, so green, but
- 41:23Speaker 5: he's just so talented, so big, and everybody's like, well,
- 41:26Speaker 5: I don't know if he could put rush the passer.
- 41:27Speaker 5: You know what, he's actually bigger than Nolan Smith, right,
- 41:31Speaker 5: and we haven't had Nolan Smith, who he had banking
- 41:33Speaker 5: on him being, you know, a guy who's gonna give
- 41:35Speaker 5: us a lot of pressure. And then you know, also
- 41:37Speaker 5: you know, he's had the kind of hide the fact
- 41:39Speaker 5: that Carter just hasn't been as dominant as he's been
- 41:42Speaker 5: with years before, and I truely believe he can be.
- 41:45Speaker 5: He can be the best defensive tackle in the league.
- 41:49Speaker 5: He just hadn't shown it. Right now He's done it.
- 41:52Speaker 2: I mean I thought first thought it was a little
- 41:53Speaker 2: bit injury related. He was, you know, but he's been fine.
- 41:56Speaker 2: He's not on the injury report anymore. He just hasn't
- 41:58Speaker 2: been again. The Super Bowl hang, whatever you want to
- 42:00Speaker 2: call it.
- 42:01Speaker 3: I mean, vic Vandred did say that he needed a
- 42:02Speaker 3: round into better shape earlier in the season, and that
- 42:05Speaker 3: was really evident, Barrett, you know, watching him and training camp,
- 42:07Speaker 3: he clearly didn't look to be in top shape. But
- 42:11Speaker 3: also to kind of piggyback off what you were saying,
- 42:12Speaker 3: Moro Jomo is another player they were banking on and
- 42:15Speaker 3: have been banking on to take a big step. Four
- 42:18Speaker 3: sacks on the season, leads the Eagles. He gives them
- 42:20Speaker 3: some juice from the interior. Now, he doesn't stop the
- 42:23Speaker 3: run quite like a Milton Williams did, but he's been
- 42:25Speaker 3: another player that they were roy bullish on and you're
- 42:28Speaker 3: seeing it pay some dividends.
- 42:29Speaker 5: We have been very surprised that I was very surprised,
- 42:32Speaker 5: and I'm still looking at him and Jordan. I mean,
- 42:36Speaker 5: Davis came in and is playing great right now. Jordan
- 42:39Speaker 5: playing very very well and a lot better than I
- 42:41Speaker 5: thought he was going to play. But he's shown me something,
- 42:43Speaker 5: you know. So it's kind of highlighted those two Morrow
- 42:45Speaker 5: and Davis. But I mean they I just thought they
- 42:49Speaker 5: were going to bank a lot on that fact that
- 42:52Speaker 5: they were going to have Carter. They're just disrupting everything
- 42:54Speaker 5: and then having Smith on the outside, you know, doing
- 42:57Speaker 5: his thing.
- 42:58Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 42:58Speaker 2: I think the biggest different summon it up is that
- 43:01Speaker 2: there's still a lot of high end talent on this defense,
- 43:04Speaker 2: from Dejene to Mitchell to Carter, Bawn, John Campbell will
- 43:10Speaker 2: be I firmly believe it.
- 43:11Speaker 4: I just think that there's a little more of the
- 43:13Speaker 4: quote unquote middle.
- 43:14Speaker 2: Class than there was last year, where here were just
- 43:17Speaker 2: not that many weak decision if it was, you could
- 43:19Speaker 2: cover it up. But you know what, we haven't talked
- 43:21Speaker 2: about the most important player on the team. You have
- 43:23Speaker 2: forty five minutes into this show. We have not talked
- 43:26Speaker 2: about a guy who's putting up MVP numbers. So we
- 43:29Speaker 2: will talk about that when we get to the other side,
- 43:31Speaker 2: you are listening to the Pro Football Report presented by
- 43:34Speaker 2: b CWSA right here fourteen ninety WBCB and one oh

- 46:12Speaker 5: Right, that's right, all right?
- 46:13Speaker 4: This is the uh segment.
- 46:15Speaker 2: It is called this week's Penworth Financial Keys to the Game.
- 46:19Speaker 2: The key to your financial future is Penworth Financial. Call
- 46:23Speaker 2: him today at two six seven nine, nine to seven
- 46:25Speaker 2: four or five oho three or visit Penworth dot com.
- 46:28Speaker 2: Guess what, there's no game for the Eagles, all right,
- 46:31Speaker 2: so we're gonna go to the Keys for the bye week,
- 46:34Speaker 2: and to me, let's starts with Jalen Hurts. We gotta
- 46:36Speaker 2: talk about Jalen Hurts, all right, because this man has
- 46:39Speaker 2: thrown seven touchdown passes in his last two games, which
- 46:42Speaker 2: gives him fifteen through eight games. That's the most he's
- 46:46Speaker 2: ever had through eight games of his career. And he's
- 46:48Speaker 2: on pace for thirty two touchdowns this season, which, as
- 46:52Speaker 2: we all know, would be by far a career high.
- 46:55Speaker 2: I think twenty three was his highest then. And when
- 46:57Speaker 2: you start to get into the thirties, people start to like,
- 47:01Speaker 2: you know, the statmongers, Oh that's pretty good.
- 47:04Speaker 4: He's he's throwing the football.
- 47:05Speaker 2: He's he's throwing touchdowns.
- 47:08Speaker 4: Jaalen Hurts is throwing touchdown.
- 47:09Speaker 5: Passes right now because we haven't leaned on the toush
- 47:13Speaker 5: push and we did last year. Yes, we are using
- 47:17Speaker 5: our offense, you know what I'm saying. We're using you know,
- 47:21Speaker 5: the the weapons that we have, like Goddard is. He's
- 47:25Speaker 5: so talented man, and we you know, we've only have
- 47:29Speaker 5: him for a selected, you know, a couple of games
- 47:31Speaker 5: because you know, injuries have been an issue. But man,
- 47:34Speaker 5: he's so talented man. Especially run after the catch. He's amazing.
- 47:37Speaker 5: And I think he asked the tightest symbiotic relationship with
- 47:41Speaker 5: him than anybody else.
- 47:42Speaker 4: Definitely.
- 47:43Speaker 2: You know what's the key for him, Andrew going into
- 47:45Speaker 2: the break, You're jailing, Hurts, You're coming, You're six and two.
- 47:47Speaker 4: You're putting up better numbers.
- 47:49Speaker 2: His passer rating, by the way, it is one fourteen
- 47:52Speaker 2: point one the highest of his career, one of the
- 47:53Speaker 2: highest the NFL.
- 47:55Speaker 3: What's the key now, Yeah, he's really in a rhythm
- 47:57Speaker 3: right now. You can see everything slow down for him.
- 47:59Speaker 2: He seeing the field really well.
- 48:01Speaker 3: I think for Jalen the key would be just getting
- 48:03Speaker 3: with Kevin Patulo and trying to really hone in on
- 48:06Speaker 3: every aspect of the offense so that when you do
- 48:08Speaker 3: emerge from the bye week, you're able to kind of
- 48:10Speaker 3: hit the ground running because they have a pretty formidable
- 48:12Speaker 3: opponent that they're going to meet in Green Bay on
- 48:15Speaker 3: November tenth. I think it's gonna be a lot of
- 48:17Speaker 3: self scouting, a lot of getting with the coaches and
- 48:19Speaker 3: trying to come up with a game plan and some
- 48:22Speaker 3: more creativity to keep the offense flowing.
- 48:25Speaker 4: What do quarterbacks do during the bye week? Barrett? I
- 48:27Speaker 4: mean you played uh for several of them, right, I
- 48:29Speaker 4: mean if you played with Big Ben.
- 48:30Speaker 2: Who did you play with when you were the Eagles.
- 48:32Speaker 2: I'm trying to think it from ninety my.
- 48:33Speaker 5: First year, the first year, the last year the Kelly
- 48:36Speaker 5: Green Jerseys, Bobby Hoying was it was it Rouse? My
- 48:39Speaker 5: last year, I had, I had Randall Conny. I've played
- 48:42Speaker 5: with RC. I played with RC my rookie year and
- 48:45Speaker 5: then the next couple of years, you know quarterback you
- 48:47Speaker 5: know by whoever had their hand raised at the time.
- 48:50Speaker 5: Yeah year, Yeah, we had you know, both of the
- 48:55Speaker 5: you know, we had Bobby Hooying my last year there
- 48:56Speaker 5: when we went, we had both the Devora both did
- 49:01Speaker 5: coy and TI. I had Rodney Pete and uh, you
- 49:05Speaker 5: know it was it was it was quarterbacks, you know,
- 49:08Speaker 5: with musical chairs. But we had such a talented you
- 49:12Speaker 5: know running backs. You know, we had Ricky Waters and
- 49:14Speaker 5: Charlie Garner. And people don't understand how great Charlie Gardon
- 49:17Speaker 5: will not to say good. I said great Charlie.
- 49:18Speaker 2: Gardner very underrated play definitely definitely very under And Ricky
- 49:22Speaker 2: too was great too.
- 49:23Speaker 5: If he hadn't did the who for for who for what?
- 49:25Speaker 5: I think he could have been one of the the
- 49:28Speaker 5: you know, the pivots stars in this town that you
- 49:30Speaker 5: know would bleed green for him anytime.
- 49:32Speaker 2: Hey, we need we need that content. Okay, that's like
- 49:35Speaker 2: that's up there with Alan Everson practice.
- 49:37Speaker 4: We need for what.
- 49:39Speaker 5: Yeah, but the first game he plays my rookie year,
- 49:43Speaker 5: my first game against Tampa Bay Alligators for who for what.
- 49:47Speaker 2: That's tough.
- 49:48Speaker 5: It was tough.
- 49:48Speaker 2: Yeah. His he had actually a great career with americally,
- 49:53Speaker 2: and it certainly was better than the way it started.
- 49:55Speaker 2: But you also played in Detroit and Green Bay. Which
- 49:58Speaker 2: quarterbacks did you play with there?
- 50:00Speaker 5: I had Charlie Batch.
- 50:01Speaker 4: Charlie Batch.
- 50:02Speaker 5: Yeah, when I was in Detroit and then I went
- 50:05Speaker 5: to Green Bay, I had you know, I called him
- 50:08Speaker 5: duck meat, you know, I mean he you like duck
- 50:11Speaker 5: me beating. I'm like, yeah, we'll duck down on. Farvard
- 50:15Speaker 5: was the funniest. He was just a simple guy man,
- 50:19Speaker 5: you know, great guy, simple guy man. And you know,
- 50:21Speaker 5: he really made me feel welcome. You know. In fact,
- 50:24Speaker 5: I'm just a quel story about bread.
- 50:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 50:26Speaker 5: He drive this F one fifty, you know, old F
- 50:28Speaker 5: one fifty.
- 50:29Speaker 2: Man.
- 50:29Speaker 5: Here is this guy heat. But you know, the local store,
- 50:32Speaker 5: the local car dealership, gave him one of the H
- 50:34Speaker 5: two Hummers, the new ones that came out H two Hummers,
- 50:38Speaker 5: and he didn't want to drive it, so he didn't
- 50:39Speaker 5: drive it. So I was renting the car and he
- 50:41Speaker 5: saw I was writting the car and said, hey, why
- 50:42Speaker 5: don't you won't you drive this truck around for me?
- 50:44Speaker 5: You know, So you have to rent a car, but
- 50:46Speaker 5: drive it around for me so that, you know, just
- 50:48Speaker 5: keep the windows up. I'm like, all right, so we
- 50:50Speaker 5: gave you a truck for the entire season. Incredible, Great guy,
- 50:55Speaker 5: great guy. You just happened to be in the right
- 50:57Speaker 5: place and there. I mean, it couldn't been anybody else
- 50:58Speaker 5: on the team, right, he just happened to notice you
- 51:00Speaker 5: were renting the car exactly, yellow man, it was the
- 51:03Speaker 5: brightest yellow you can get.
- 51:04Speaker 4: Oh man, that's great.
- 51:05Speaker 3: Well, since the Eagles are playing in Lambeau Barrett, what
- 51:09Speaker 3: are your memories of playing there?
- 51:10Speaker 5: It was a great place to play because they believe
- 51:13Speaker 5: that they pay your salary up there, and because of
- 51:15Speaker 5: the community team, they did pay your salary. So the
- 51:19Speaker 5: expectations up there is a lot different than even here.
- 51:22Speaker 5: Their fans are really wholesome fans. Nice. Yeah, you know,
- 51:26Speaker 5: like wind loser draw. You know, they'll probably still give
- 51:28Speaker 5: you a free meal or whatever. You know what I mean.
- 51:31Speaker 5: It's not like you're here, you know, you you got
- 51:33Speaker 5: to earn it.
- 51:33Speaker 2: Here, you know, but here you get like for sale signs.
- 51:38Speaker 5: Out.
- 51:41Speaker 2: Uh so the common bond then for a quarterback entering
- 51:45Speaker 2: the bye weeks, Jalen hurts just get away from it all,
- 51:47Speaker 2: or would you like to do you imagine that he
- 51:49Speaker 2: digs into the tape.
- 51:51Speaker 5: And started watching tape yesterday, And that's just the way
- 51:55Speaker 5: he is. You know, he's not going to separate some
- 51:57Speaker 5: stuff from the game, cause to him, he is the game, right,
- 52:00Speaker 5: so he sees you know, he's gonna look in and
- 52:02Speaker 5: see the inefficiency that he has. He's gonna fix those
- 52:05Speaker 5: and coming too, you know, against Green Bay and and
- 52:08Speaker 5: and show everybody, look, I've fixed it. He's always trying
- 52:11Speaker 5: to prove how good he is and who he is,
- 52:13Speaker 5: because you know, he feels though, you know, he's always
- 52:16Speaker 5: getting the short end of the stick. Yeah.
- 52:18Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 52:19Speaker 2: My key is just because I feel like I feel
- 52:22Speaker 2: like lately, last few games, we have seen Jalen really
- 52:26Speaker 2: improve in the element of being decisive on certain throws
- 52:30Speaker 2: that he in the past has not loved to.
- 52:32Speaker 4: Make it right.
- 52:32Speaker 2: I brought up the one that he threw to Aja
- 52:35Speaker 2: against the Vikings, Okay, but even in this last game
- 52:37Speaker 2: before that, there are a couple of throws where you
- 52:39Speaker 2: really see him comfortable sticking that foot in the ground
- 52:42Speaker 2: and ripping it. And there are times where he'll go
- 52:45Speaker 2: through maybe a game or two or throw where you'll
- 52:47Speaker 2: see that that throw not made. I would love for
- 52:49Speaker 2: him to see it and just remind himself, I make
- 52:53Speaker 2: that throw, and I make it really well. He's always teraccurate.
- 52:55Speaker 2: He's always had a good enough arm to do it.
- 52:57Speaker 2: Oh yeah, if he can just do that, it's already happening.
- 53:01Speaker 2: His touchdown numbers is pascer rating. Everything about his passing
- 53:05Speaker 2: numbers are up was from what they usually are.
- 53:07Speaker 5: I think he's a little too conscious at times on
- 53:10Speaker 5: you know, his numbers. You know, so a lot of
- 53:12Speaker 5: times he wouldn't throw those passes. But just look, you
- 53:13Speaker 5: know how he's opened up. Even the last touchdown of
- 53:16Speaker 5: the game gains to Dotson, thrown up to Dotson, Dotson, No,
- 53:20Speaker 5: we've got Dotson. No, it wouldn't have been a we've
- 53:22Speaker 5: got Dotson. He'd have just you know, he'd be all right,
- 53:24Speaker 5: I'm not gonna throw that throw. But he threw it
- 53:26Speaker 5: up and allowed him to, you know, go up and
- 53:28Speaker 5: make a play on it. So, to me, that's heart
- 53:30Speaker 5: the maturation of him trusting a guy, but trusting his
- 53:33Speaker 5: arm that he can get up there and his guy
- 53:34Speaker 5: will go ahead and fight for him.
- 53:35Speaker 3: Yeah, and Dotson Moss that defensive back. But I think
- 53:40Speaker 3: you're seeing him not be so overly reliant on throwing
- 53:43Speaker 3: outside the numbers. It's the intermediate throws and he's just
- 53:46Speaker 3: seeing the field really well right now.
- 53:47Speaker 5: Yeah, Smitty's given an opportunity to Smitty is always he
- 53:51Speaker 5: creates separation with his route runner. He's just one of
- 53:53Speaker 5: those smooth, seamless guys that you can trust.
- 53:55Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, absolutely so.
- 53:57Speaker 2: Look, the other thing would be on defense now right
- 54:01Speaker 2: the key to defense, you know, Vic Fangio is gonna
- 54:04Speaker 2: kind of kind of They're gonna get guys back.
- 54:06Speaker 4: Vic Fangio is gonna look see what they've done done well.
- 54:09Speaker 3: The trade deadlines coming up, to trade.
- 54:11Speaker 4: Deadlines coming up.
- 54:12Speaker 2: What is the biggest key for the defense, Barret?
- 54:14Speaker 5: Those guys in the trenches, you know, Carter, once he
- 54:17Speaker 5: makes his mind up that he wants to be the
- 54:19Speaker 5: best defensive line in the league, this defense will be unstoppable.
- 54:23Speaker 5: They won't you won't be able to do anything with him.
- 54:25Speaker 5: But until he makes that you know decision, they'll be
- 54:28Speaker 5: an okay defense.
- 54:29Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm with Baron. I think the key to everything
- 54:32Speaker 3: is Jaylen Carter get healthy. He's had he had the heel,
- 54:34Speaker 3: he has the shoulder. You know, they're they're relying on
- 54:38Speaker 3: you to be that centerpiece for the defense, and you
- 54:40Speaker 3: know they go as you go. So I'm looking to
- 54:43Speaker 3: see him really emerge from the bye week and be
- 54:45Speaker 3: that force.
- 54:46Speaker 5: Yep, yeah, you know. I mean you saw you know,
- 54:48Speaker 5: Nikobe Dean kind of solidified that run game stop. Oh yeah,
- 54:51Speaker 5: so he's playing well, you know, so they have the keys,
- 54:53Speaker 5: they have what they need. It's just them going out
- 54:56Speaker 5: and if he can he can turn the corner, this
- 54:57Speaker 5: could be an unstoppable defense.
- 54:59Speaker 2: If I'm not an thinking Howie Roseman did not make
- 55:01Speaker 2: a trade last year at the deadline for the first
- 55:03Speaker 2: time in quite a while.
- 55:04Speaker 5: No, he didn't.
- 55:04Speaker 2: No, I wonder if that's going to be a trend
- 55:07Speaker 2: or if he's itching to try to bring somebody in.
- 55:09Speaker 2: We all talk about it, and it's the dominant storyline,
- 55:12Speaker 2: but I always say, well, who's available and for what
- 55:14Speaker 2: price exactly?
- 55:15Speaker 3: I wouldn't be surprised if they don't make a move
- 55:17Speaker 3: because of the reinforcements that are on the way, and
- 55:19Speaker 3: you look at the cornerback situation they have three you
- 55:22Speaker 3: have to figure you'll land on one of them, whether
- 55:24Speaker 3: it's Jacoryan Bennett who only played twenty four snaps this season,
- 55:27Speaker 3: Kiey Ringo, or Dorry Jackson r You can make a
- 55:30Speaker 3: case for all three. A. Dory's coming off a concussion,
- 55:32Speaker 3: kiey Ringo game, yeah, hasn't really been tested. And then
- 55:37Speaker 3: Jacorey and Bennett, they don't really know what they have
- 55:39Speaker 3: in him. In fact, vic Veanjo said incomplete when asked
- 55:42Speaker 3: to evaluate what he's how he's looked in that defense.
- 55:44Speaker 2: Always overflowing with compliments, isn't it? If you could pick
- 55:48Speaker 2: well Endon on this, if you could pick one position, Barrett,
- 55:50Speaker 2: where you'd like to see how we make a move
- 55:52Speaker 2: for a starting I don't know if he's gonna be
- 55:54Speaker 2: able to bring in a Pro Bowl caliber player because they're.
- 55:56Speaker 4: Not too many are available.
- 55:58Speaker 2: They're not gonna let any starting caliber player.
- 56:00Speaker 4: Where are you putting that? What position they got up there?
- 56:02Speaker 5: It would have to be Russian rush in a complete
- 56:05Speaker 5: If I can get a complete guy the rest of
- 56:07Speaker 5: passer set the edge on the run, I would get that,
- 56:10Speaker 5: but I don't think that they need it right now.
- 56:12Speaker 5: I think they're gonna be okay with they have.
- 56:15Speaker 4: Well.
- 56:15Speaker 2: The Eagles go into the by. They have passed some
- 56:17Speaker 2: major tests, but they've got two right out of the by,
- 56:20Speaker 2: which the gauntlet with the two games is not a
- 56:23Speaker 2: golf Okay, he just went through a gauntlet, right, But
- 56:26Speaker 2: I will say Packers Lions, that is quite the test.
- 56:29Speaker 2: Packers at Lambeau Lions here the following weekend on Sunday night,
- 56:34Speaker 2: and I know we'll.
- 56:35Speaker 4: Be breaking it down, but guess what, you guys just
- 56:37Speaker 4: passed the test for tonight. Barrett Brooks, thank you very.
- 56:39Speaker 2: Much, appreciate showing up and giving your expertise. Andrew to
