- Lucas: Hey Luna, velkommen til episode 93 af Learn Danish with Fexingo. Luna: Hey Lucas! I'm so ready. What are we learning today? Lucas: Since it's almost New Year's, I thought we'd do a little Danish New Year's Eve vocabulary. You know, how to say 'Happy New Year' and talk about fireworks. Luna: Oh, that's perfect. I love fireworks. Okay, teach me. Lucas: So the most common phrase you need is 'Godt nytår'. That means 'Happy New Year'. Luna: Godt nytår. Godt nytår. Is that right? Lucas: Exactly. You've got it. Now, a more formal way to say it is 'Jeg ønsker dig et godt nytår' — I wish you a Happy New Year. Luna: Jeg ønsker dig et godt nytår. That's a mouthful. Can I just say 'Godt nytår'? Lucas: Absolutely. That's the casual everyday version. Now let's talk about fireworks. The word for firework is 'fyrværkeri', and a single rocket is 'raket'. Luna: Fyrværkeri. That's a long word. And raket? Like rocket. Lucas: Yes, very similar. And on New Year's Eve, many Danes say 'gå nytår', which means 'go New Year' or 'walk into the New Year' — it's a tradition where people walk out at midnight. Luna: Gå nytår. So like walking into the new year? That's cute. Lucas: Yeah. And one more — 'nytårsforsæt' means New Year's resolution. Like 'Mit nytårsforsæt er at løbe mere'. Luna: Nytårsforsæt. That's a tough one. Can you say it again slowly? Lucas: Nytårsforsæt. Break it down: nytår - s - forsæt. Nytårsforsæt. Luna: Nytårsforsæt. Okay, I think I got it. So we have Godt nytår, Jeg ønsker dig et godt nytår, fyrværkeri, raket, gå nytår, and nytårsforsæt. That's a lot of vocabulary. Lucas: Yeah, but it's useful. Let's do a little scene. Imagine you're at a party, and I say 'Godt nytår!' — what do you say back? Luna: Godt nytår! And then maybe 'Jeg ønsker dig et godt nytår' if I want to be fancy? Lucas: Perfect. Now let's imagine we're watching fireworks. I say 'Se på raketterne!' — look at the rockets. What do you say? Luna: Wow, flot fyrværkeri! Is that right? Lucas: Yes! Or you could say 'Hvor er det smukt fyrværkeri' — what beautiful fireworks. But 'flot' works too. Luna: Okay, so now I can celebrate New Year's in Danish. Thank you, Lucas. Lucas: You're welcome. And if Fexingo has been helping you make progress with Danish, you can support the show at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. It keeps us ad-free. Luna: Yeah, it's how we keep doing this. So if you're enjoying it, think about it. Now, let's practice one more time — what's 'Happy New Year' in Danish? Lucas: Godt nytår. And I wish you a Happy New Year is 'Jeg ønsker dig et godt nytår'. Repeat after me: Godt nytår. Luna: Godt nytår. Lucas: Jeg ønsker dig et godt nytår. Luna: Jeg ønsker dig et godt nytår. Lucas: Great. And remember, gå nytår is a fun tradition. So maybe this year, you can gå nytår and say Godt nytår to everyone you meet. Luna: I love that. Thanks, Lucas. And Godt nytår to all our listeners! Lucas: Godt nytår! See you next time.
