Speaker 1: Let us pray. And he said unto them, Be not affrighted.
• 0:05
Speaker 1: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified. He is risen.
• 0:11
Speaker 1: He is not here. Behold the place where they laid him.
• 0:15
Speaker 1: Mark 16.6 Thank you, God, that through your promise in
• 0:21
Speaker 1: the garden, we were given new life in Jesus. Even
• 0:27
Speaker 1: though his body was bruised by the crucifixion, His act
• 0:31
Speaker 1: of resurrection crushed the head of the serpent Satan forever.
• 0:37
Speaker 1: For in doing so, you took the power away from
• 0:40
Speaker 1: sin and death, Jesus. When I am tempted to go
• 0:45
Speaker 1: back to the sins of my past, remind me, Holy Spirit,
• 0:50
Speaker 1: that they are not there. Remind me that through the death, burial,
• 0:55
Speaker 1: and resurrection of Jesus, my sins were washed away by
• 0:59
Speaker 1: the blood of the Lamb. Hallelujah. Thank you, Jesus, that
• 1:06
Speaker 1: through your sacrifice I have new life and new power.
• 1:12
Speaker 1: Thank you, Lord, that the stone was rolled away and
• 1:15
Speaker 1: that the tomb is empty. I choose to celebrate because
• 1:20
Speaker 1: an empty tomb means an occupied throne ready for me
• 1:26
Speaker 1: to approach, to tap into the greatest power, provision, and love.
• 1:32
Speaker 1: I've ever known. In Jesus' name. Amen. Thanks for making
• 1:41
Speaker 1: prayer a priority in your life. To hear the Bible
• 1:45
Speaker 1: come to life, stay tuned for the Bible in a Year.

Speaker 2: The Resurrection In our last story, we learned about the
• 2:03
Speaker 2: death of Jesus on a cross and the offering up
• 2:06
Speaker 2: of his life for the sins of humanity. After his death,
• 2:10
Speaker 2: he was placed and buried in the tomb of a
• 2:12
Speaker 2: man named Joseph. In this story, we will learn about
• 2:16
Speaker 2: the glorious resurrection of Jesus Christ as inspired by the Gospels.
• 2:25
Speaker 3: I'm so glad you joined us on the Bible in
• 2:27
Speaker 3: a Year podcast today. But before we get to today's episode,
• 2:31
Speaker 3: I want you to know that I would absolutely love

Speaker 3: fresh encouragement every single morning and day. From the moment
• 2:42
Speaker 3: we wake up to the moment our head finally hits
• 2:45
Speaker 3: the pillow, there are thousands of things demanding our attention.
• 2:50
Speaker 3: But it's in the midst of all this crush and
• 2:52
Speaker 3: hustle and bustle that you and I need peace and
• 2:55
Speaker 3: truth in God's word. That's why I want to help
• 2:58

• 3:14
  Speaker 3: That's jackgram.org, jackgram.org. In yesterday's reading, we heard how Jesus
• 3:22
Speaker 3: went to the cross, suffered, and died there at Calvary
• 3:26
Speaker 3: for our sins. His physical pain was unimaginable, but the
• 3:31
Speaker 3: pain of separation from the Heavenly Father was even greater,
• 3:35
Speaker 3: as the one who was sinless now bears our sins.
• 3:39
Speaker 3: The Father, God Himself, turned His back upon His darling
• 3:42
Speaker 3: Son as the sins of the world were placed on Him.
• 3:45
Speaker 3: The wrath of God came upon Jesus that day, And
• 3:49
Speaker 3: Christ was judged for our sins. He bore the weight
• 3:52
Speaker 3: of the world. And yet in that sacrifice, the justice
• 3:56
Speaker 3: of God himself was satisfied so that we now can
• 3:59
Speaker 3: have a relationship with God. That relationship with God is
• 4:03
Speaker 3: made possible for what we read about today. And that
• 4:07
Speaker 3: is that Jesus is alive because he came out of
• 4:10
Speaker 3: the grave. The resurrection is our subject. So let's listen now.
• 4:17
Speaker 2: Christ's death had caused the earth itself to cry out
• 4:21
Speaker 2: in mourning. His disciples hiding and alone mimicked the earth
• 4:25
Speaker 2: in sorrow. Though the morning sun had come the world
• 4:30
Speaker 2: still felt dark. A fear and trembling came over all
• 4:34
Speaker 2: that were once loyal to Jesus. Would they do to
• 4:38
Speaker 2: them what they did to Jesus? In fear of their
• 4:41
Speaker 2: lives and embarrassment of their cowardice the disciples hid themselves away.
• 4:47
Speaker 2: Those who had conspired to kill Jesus suddenly had felt
• 4:50
Speaker 2: an uneasiness bubble up in them. The day after Jesus' crucifixion,
• 4:56
Speaker 2: they had come to Pilate and said to him, This
• 4:58
Speaker 2: man we have put to death once said that he
• 5:01
Speaker 2: would be raised again on the third day. We must
• 5:04
Speaker 2: have guards around the tomb lest his disciples take his
• 5:07
Speaker 2: body and claim he was risen from the dead. Pilate
• 5:11
Speaker 2: heard what the Pharisees said and agreed. Send guards to
• 5:15
Speaker 2: make sure the tomb is buried and sealed. Post guards
• 5:18
Speaker 2: in front of the tomb to make sure the disciples
• 5:21
Speaker 2: do not attempt to steal Jesus' body. On the third day,
• 5:25
Speaker 2: in the cool of the morning, Mary Magdalene and Mary
• 5:28
Speaker 2: the mother of James left to go visit the tomb
• 5:31
Speaker 2: where Jesus had laid. They held spices and flowers to
• 5:34
Speaker 2: lay beside the entrance of the tomb. Approaching the tomb,
• 5:38
Speaker 2: their footsteps were interrupted by the shaking of the earth
• 5:41
Speaker 2: beneath them. A bright light flashed before them, and the
• 5:45
Speaker 2: guards beside the tomb fell to the ground motionless. The
• 5:49
Speaker 2: two women opened their eyes to the sight of an
• 5:51
Speaker 2: angel sitting beside Jesus' tomb. The stone that once sealed
• 5:56
Speaker 2: it was rolled away. Looking at the women with a
• 5:59
Speaker 2: face shining brighter than the sun, the angel said, Why
• 6:03
Speaker 2: do you seek the living among the dead? He is
• 6:06
Speaker 2: not here. He has risen as he said he would.
• 6:09
Speaker 2: Now go quickly and tell his disciples. As the two
• 6:14
Speaker 2: women fled to go tell the others, they were met
• 6:17
Speaker 2: on the road by a man. Flustered and confused, they
• 6:20
Speaker 2: could barely pay any attention. Greetings, the man said. He
• 6:25
Speaker 2: spoke to them with a familiar and gentle tone. They
• 6:28
Speaker 2: looked up to him and discovered it was him. He
• 6:33
Speaker 2: who was hung bloodied and demolished on the cross stood
• 6:35
Speaker 2: before them. No words or expressions could quite capture their elation,
• 6:40
Speaker 2: so they simply clung to him. as Jacob once did
• 6:43
Speaker 2: on the hill generations ago. They too were trembling with joy, fear,
• 6:48
Speaker 2: and confusion. Do not be afraid, nor should you cling
• 6:53
Speaker 2: to me too long, Jesus said. Quick, go and tell
• 6:57
Speaker 2: my brothers to meet me in Galilee. There they will
• 7:00
Speaker 2: see me. The women did as they were told and
• 7:03
Speaker 2: immediately ran to the disciples. The two brought word to
• 7:08
Speaker 2: Peter and John. Though they doubted, they wasted no time.
• 7:12
Speaker 2: fleeing towards the garden where Jesus was buried so they
• 7:15
Speaker 2: could see it for themselves. John, the youngest of the disciples,
• 7:20
Speaker 2: ran the fastest, determined to see his king once again.
• 7:24
Speaker 2: He ran inside, picked up the pieces of cloth that
• 7:27
Speaker 2: once wrapped his Messiah, and welled up with tears. The
• 7:31
Speaker 2: cloths were lying there alone on the stone, but his
• 7:35
Speaker 2: king was gone. As the two Marys had said, the
• 7:39
Speaker 2: tomb was empty, and joy and anticipation erupted in both
• 7:43
Speaker 2: of them. The darkness over the face of the earth
• 7:46
Speaker 2: was lifted, and light was restored to the hearts of
• 7:49
Speaker 2: those who followed Jesus. The next chapter of the disciples'
• 7:53
Speaker 2: lives would be marked with more wonder and exploits than
• 7:57
Speaker 2: their imaginations could ever predict. The king had risen, and
• 8:01
Speaker 2: the only thing remaining in the tomb were the sins
• 8:03
Speaker 2: of mankind he had put to death on the cross.
• 8:07
Speaker 2: God once promised in the Garden of Eden that the
• 8:10
Speaker 2: serpent would bruise the heel of a promised son, yet
• 8:14
Speaker 2: he would crush his head. Jesus' scars from crucifixion remained.
• 8:19
Speaker 2: He was, in fact, bruised by evil. Yet the head
• 8:23
Speaker 2: of the serpent, the enemy, and all his exploits were
• 8:27
Speaker 2: crushed under the heel of the promised Messiah. On that cross,
• 8:31
Speaker 2: the sins of humanity and all that plagued the hearts
• 8:35
Speaker 2: of men were crushed. And the Son of God proved
• 8:39
Speaker 2: that even death has no power over him, nor would
• 8:43
Speaker 2: it have power over all those that followed him after. Amen.
• 8:52
Speaker 3: In today's scripture, the dark shadow of grief and fear
• 8:55
Speaker 3: hang over the entire world, and none are feeling it
• 8:58
Speaker 3: more powerfully than the disciples and those who follow Jesus
• 9:02
Speaker 3: to the end. For them, it seemed that all hope
• 9:06
Speaker 3: is lost. Though Jesus had told them he would die
• 9:09
Speaker 3: and be raised again, it seemed an impossibility at this point.
• 9:13
Speaker 3: Two days had already passed, and still Jesus was behind
• 9:17
Speaker 3: a heavy stone in a tomb. Those who had orchestrated
• 9:21
Speaker 3: this unjust execution and crucifixion had heard about Jesus' claims
• 9:26
Speaker 3: that after three days he would rise again, so they
• 9:29
Speaker 3: arranged for Jesus' tomb to be guarded by Roman soldiers
• 9:33
Speaker 3: so that none of his followers could break in and
• 9:35
Speaker 3: steal the body and claim a resurrection. I can only
• 9:39
Speaker 3: imagine the sorrow and terror of those who had followed Jesus.
• 9:43
Speaker 3: If their master had been killed, surely they would be
• 9:46
Speaker 3: in grave danger. But more than that, their dearest friend
• 9:50
Speaker 3: and teacher and Messiah, the one that they had trusted
• 9:53
Speaker 3: and loved like no one else, was gone. They were
• 9:56
Speaker 3: soon to experience in a very real way what Psalm
• 9:59
Speaker 3: 30 taught them, that though sorrow may last through the night,
• 10:03
Speaker 3: joy comes in the morning. For on the morning of
• 10:06
Speaker 3: the third day, everything was going to change forever. On
• 10:11
Speaker 3: that morning, Mary Magdalene and Mary, the mother of James,
• 10:14
Speaker 3: made their way to the tomb, bringing spices to anoint
• 10:17
Speaker 3: the body of Jesus and because they did not expect
• 10:20
Speaker 3: that he would actually rise from the dead as he
• 10:23
Speaker 3: promised he would. Of course, they had no idea how
• 10:26
Speaker 3: they would move the heavy stone that blocked the access
• 10:29
Speaker 3: to the body, but they went anyway, desperate, desiring to
• 10:33
Speaker 3: show honor to their beloved friend. What a surprise they
• 10:38
Speaker 3: were in for. When they got to the place where
• 10:40
Speaker 3: Jesus was laid to rest, the large stone had already
• 10:43
Speaker 3: been rolled away. When they entered the tomb, they did
• 10:46
Speaker 3: not find the Lord's body. No, they encountered two men
• 10:49
Speaker 3: dressed in sparkling white robes, angel beings. They were understandably afraid,
• 10:55
Speaker 3: but the angel spoke to them reassuringly, and we hear
• 10:57
Speaker 3: their words in Luke 24, verses 6 to 7. He
• 11:01
Speaker 3: is not here, but he is risen. Remember how he
• 11:05
Speaker 3: told you while he was still in Galilee that the
• 11:07
Speaker 3: Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of
• 11:10
Speaker 3: sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.
• 11:15
Speaker 3: Then they remembered what Jesus had promised them, and they
• 11:19
Speaker 3: ran to tell the others the good news. The greatest
• 11:21
Speaker 3: good news the world has ever heard came out of
• 11:24
Speaker 3: an empty tomb in Jerusalem 2,000 years ago. Jesus had
• 11:29
Speaker 3: risen just as he said he would. Everything Jesus said,
• 11:34
Speaker 3: everything Jesus did, everything about Jesus hinges on this miracle
• 11:40
Speaker 3: of the resurrection. If he never rose from the dead,
• 11:43
Speaker 3: if the tomb is not empty that day, then Jesus
• 11:46
Speaker 3: was just a compelling speaker, a magnetic personality, a religious
• 11:50
Speaker 3: teacher that led people astray. But if Jesus did in
• 11:54
Speaker 3: fact conquer death and rise from the grave, then he
• 11:57
Speaker 3: truly is the Savior of the world, the Son of God,
• 12:00
Speaker 3: perfect God and perfect man, alive forevermore. His death accomplished
• 12:04
Speaker 3: what he said it would, the forgiveness of our sins.
• 12:08
Speaker 3: And with his resurrection, he removed the sting of death,
• 12:11
Speaker 3: eternal separation from God, and made a way for those
• 12:14
Speaker 3: who follow him to live forever in the presence of God.
• 12:18
Speaker 3: Jesus had said in John 14, 6, I am the
• 12:22
Speaker 3: way and the truth and the life, and no one
• 12:24
Speaker 3: comes to the Father but by me. Jesus made a way,
• 12:28
Speaker 3: and it went through an empty tomb. He rose from
• 12:30
Speaker 3: the grave, and now we can trust him with our lives.
• 12:35
Speaker 3: And how do we know that he rose from the dead?
• 12:37
Speaker 3: Because of the many witnesses that saw him, starting with
• 12:40
Speaker 3: these two women, who rushed to tell others that they
• 12:43
Speaker 3: had encountered the risen Christ. They embraced him, joy like
• 12:47
Speaker 3: they had never known filling their hearts. And they couldn't
• 12:50
Speaker 3: wait to tell the disciples the amazing news. When Peter
• 12:54
Speaker 3: and John heard, they were doubtful. So they ran to
• 12:56
Speaker 3: the tomb and found it empty, except for the burial
• 12:59
Speaker 3: cloths Jesus had been wrapped in, which were folded neatly
• 13:03
Speaker 3: at the tomb. This was not a grave robbery. This
• 13:06
Speaker 3: was a resurrection. There are many evidences for the resurrection
• 13:10
Speaker 3: of Jesus Christ. We can believe in the resurrection, but
• 13:14
Speaker 3: the greatest evidence of all is the changed lives of
• 13:17
Speaker 3: the disciples whose world was turned upside down at the cross,
• 13:21
Speaker 3: but right side up at the resurrection. The one who
• 13:25
Speaker 3: had commanded the lame to walk, the sick to be healed,
• 13:27
Speaker 3: and the dead to rise had walked right out of
• 13:30
Speaker 3: his tomb. He is alive. Christ is alive. He did
• 13:35
Speaker 3: not need someone else to command him to rise, for
• 13:37
Speaker 3: he has power over sin, death, hell, and the grave.
• 13:42
Speaker 3: And through him, Because of his cross and resurrection, we
• 13:46
Speaker 3: can have the forgiveness of our sins and eternal life.
• 13:50
Speaker 3: This is why the gospel is such good news that
• 13:53
Speaker 3: the whole world needs to hear. Would you pray with me?
• 13:58
Speaker 3: If you've never received Jesus, the living Lord, as your
• 14:00
Speaker 3: Savior and your God, you can trust him right now
• 14:04
Speaker 3: by simply breathing this prayer. Lord Jesus, I know that
• 14:07
Speaker 3: I have sinned and broken your commandments, but I believe
• 14:10
Speaker 3: you died to save me, and so I do trust
• 14:13
Speaker 3: you as my Lord and Savior. I will follow you
• 14:16
Speaker 3: all the days of my life in the power of
• 14:18
Speaker 3: your Spirit, and when you come for me, I'll be
• 14:22
Speaker 3: ready because I've put my faith and trust in you.
• 14:26
Speaker 3: In Jesus' name, amen. Thank you for listening to today's
