2:34
Speaker 6: of Alumni Engagement with Marshall University. Welcome to the show, folks.
2:38
Speaker 7: Thanks day, Thanks day, you know here.
2:40
Speaker 6: Glad to have you here. It is interesting because Melanie
2:43
Speaker 6: and I've known each other for like ten years or
2:45
Speaker 6: something like that, and you know, around the Capitol in
2:47
Speaker 6: different places, and I've been mispronouncing your last name all
2:52
Speaker 6: these years. Luckily I was calling you Melanie, you know,
2:56
Speaker 6: and not coming.
2:57
Speaker 8: I'll take that.
2:58
Speaker 6: Did G is silent?
3:00
Speaker 4: Yes?
3:00
Speaker 6: It is okay, all right, So all right, so I
3:02
Speaker 6: apologize I have mispronounced your name all these years.
3:05
Speaker 9: I got it.
3:06
Speaker 6: Look, I got the Melanie part right, okay, Thanky for something.
3:11
Speaker 6: I get style points ye for that UH so appreciate. Uh,
3:15
Speaker 6: you know, both both of you folks being here on
3:18
Speaker 6: the show today.
3:19
Speaker 4: Walk around.
3:19
Speaker 6: Well, to start with you, I want to talk about
3:21
Speaker 6: how Marshall University engages with its alumni members and we'll
3:24
Speaker 6: talk about what melodies.
3:25
Speaker 10: Yeah, but absolutely so, you know, that's a great question.
3:28
Speaker 10: And I think in alumni relations at Marshall University it's
3:32
Speaker 10: a really really fun time, but at the same time,
3:36
Speaker 10: it's a it's a time where there's so much momentum
3:39
Speaker 10: and I think that we're on the precipice of something
3:41
Speaker 10: truly amazing at the university.
3:43
Speaker 6: I think you've been on it for a while. We
3:44
Speaker 6: have been for a while.
3:45
Speaker 10: So I think that you know, within the alumni work
3:48
Speaker 10: that I specifically focus on along with our alumni team.
3:53
Speaker 10: You know, this is the first time that Marshall University
3:55
Speaker 10: has had Marshall alumnus to serve as president. So it's
3:58
Speaker 10: something that President Brad Smith is very passionate about.
4:01
Speaker 6: And you know, we enough to give fifty million dollars.
4:04
Speaker 6: I believe that.
4:05
Speaker 10: How about that we're lucky to have them and they're
4:07
Speaker 10: amazing people. But really what we do is one way
4:10
Speaker 10: that we engage our alums through many different outlets, is
4:13
Speaker 10: through our alumni chapters. So we have thirty one active
4:16
Speaker 10: alumni chapters around the United States, actually one international in Shanghai, China, and.
4:22
Speaker 6: One of those I got to know the story.
4:23
Speaker 11: How does that?
4:23
Speaker 6: How did that come about? I mean there's Marshall people everywhere.
4:27
Speaker 6: I get that, but yeah, but in Shanghai for sure.
4:29
Speaker 10: Yeah. So you know, Marshall's a global brand, and through
4:33
Speaker 10: our foreign exchange students who are on campus, they make
4:37
Speaker 10: su truly love the university, and whenever they move back
4:40
Speaker 10: to the country that they may have come from to
4:43
Speaker 10: study at Marshall, they take that love back with them
4:46
Speaker 10: and they've got a little group that gets together and
4:48
Speaker 10: they have little martial events and they can they participate
4:51
Speaker 10: in many different events that the university hosts that we
4:54
Speaker 10: may pull our alumni chapters into. But that's just one
4:57
Speaker 10: of the many ways. And that's why, you know, Melanie
4:59
Speaker 10: is an absolute rock star and having someone be able
5:02
Speaker 10: to lead our knav Valley area alumni chapter is just
5:06
Speaker 10: just something more super grateful off for.
5:07
Speaker 6: Give me a ballpark figure and I'm not gonna hold
5:10
Speaker 6: you to it, but Melody or Walker, either one of
5:13
Speaker 6: you give me a ballpark. Figure about how many here
5:15
Speaker 6: in the Kanaal Valley we have Marshall alums here in
5:16
Speaker 6: the valley over eight thousand, okay, all right, thousand, yeah, right,
5:20
Speaker 6: just in the let me have you screwed that microphone?
5:22
Speaker 6: In just a little bit closer in County we have
5:25
Speaker 6: eight thousand, eight thousand County.
5:27
Speaker 7: Okay, which is one of the largest hot spots in
5:29
Speaker 7: the state of Westterns.
5:29
Speaker 6: I mean, I would imagine it is. I know, we
5:31
Speaker 6: just came off the Painted Capital City Green event which
5:33
Speaker 6: was sold out up at the airport and I mean,
5:36
Speaker 6: you know what, I mean, how many five hundred people
5:38
Speaker 6: up there? That's make it five thousand, there were five thousand.
5:43
Speaker 6: But we just came off that big event a couple
5:45
Speaker 6: of weeks ago and I had the pleasure of MC
5:48
Speaker 6: and that event of I've done for several years, and
5:51
Speaker 6: it's amazing. And it's not just I mean, you know,
5:53
Speaker 6: you guys here to talk about alumni, but there's so
5:55
Speaker 6: many Marshall supporters that maybe didn't go to the institution.
5:58
Speaker 7: Yeah, that's exactly so.
6:00
Speaker 10: And alumni we always say it's alumni, family and friends. Okay,
6:03
Speaker 10: you know, in our alumni chapters. There are parents who
6:06
Speaker 10: have children going to Marshall that may not have graduated
6:08
Speaker 10: from the university, and anybody that's willing to love Marshall
6:11
Speaker 10: and support Marshall in any way, whether it be time, talent,
6:14
Speaker 10: or treasurer or monetarily.
6:16
Speaker 7: You know, we pulled them under the tents exactly right.
6:19
Speaker 6: All right, now, let me talk about your involvement in this.
6:20
Speaker 6: Why was it so important to you to get involved.
6:23
Speaker 8: In I was fortunate enough to do my graduate studies
6:26
Speaker 8: at Marshall, my brother did his undergrad and just fell
6:28
Speaker 8: in love with the university in the city and followed
6:33
Speaker 8: that had that love and followed it throughout my career
6:37
Speaker 8: and through our friend Michelle Chris got me in contact
6:41
Speaker 8: with Reeves Kurtner, who was able to put me and
6:47
Speaker 8: get me involved and got me on the Alumni Board Association.
6:51
Speaker 8: And so from there I met Walker and Matt and
6:55
Speaker 8: just started things rolling and realized that we had a
6:58
Speaker 8: chapter in the Kanaal Valley at time and it kind
7:00
Speaker 8: of fizzled, and so took on the charge to with
7:04
Speaker 8: a group of others to bring it back to life.
7:06
Speaker 8: And so that's what we're doing.
7:08
Speaker 6: And why why do you think it was so important.
7:10
Speaker 6: I mean, you know, Walker talked about how we have
7:12
Speaker 6: so many, so many Marshall alums and friends as you
7:16
Speaker 6: put it here in the valley. But uh, I mean,
7:19
Speaker 6: this is too big of an area not to have
7:20
Speaker 6: an active chapter. I would think we're the.
7:22
Speaker 8: Capital City, so I mean, exactly, we should be leading
7:25
Speaker 8: the charge. And the Quarterback Club has done an excellent
7:27
Speaker 8: job over the years, and so I think they've they've
7:30
Speaker 8: found their niche with with our paint the Capital City
7:33
Speaker 8: green and then our event coming up probably in the
7:37
Speaker 8: fall or in the in the spring they'll do the
7:40
Speaker 8: Luau or something like that, and and others just want
7:42
Speaker 8: to home and so and so the chapter is the
7:45
Speaker 8: great place for that.
7:46
Speaker 4: Well.
7:46
Speaker 6: And and I'm a part of the Marshall Quarterback Club,
7:48
Speaker 6: and I will say that, you know, we do a
7:50
Speaker 6: lot of good things within the organization, but it's primarily
7:55
Speaker 6: sports related. That's the name Quarterback Club. Well, you folks
7:58
Speaker 6: were talking about those engage the people that went there,
8:02
Speaker 6: regardless of whether they were sports fans or not exactly.
8:05
Speaker 8: And it's and its opportunity for us to get together
8:07
Speaker 8: to either watch games or to do other activities such
8:10
Speaker 8: as how can we give back to the university of
8:12
Speaker 8: supporting students in some way, supporting a project on campus,
8:17
Speaker 8: and how do we want to continue to give back
8:21
Speaker 8: to the university as a whole and throughout the whole year.
8:24
Speaker 6: And let's talk about some of those ways that you
8:26
Speaker 6: that you're trying to give back.
8:28
Speaker 8: Well, one thing we've talked about, we just had a
8:31
Speaker 8: chapter meeting last night, and so if anybody's interested, they
8:34
Speaker 8: can follow us on social media and find out when
8:36
Speaker 8: those dates are or contact me directly. We'll put them
8:39
Speaker 8: on the email list. But we're looking at supporting students
8:42
Speaker 8: from the local area. How can we do that, getting
8:45
Speaker 8: engaged with the university directly as well as with the
8:48
Speaker 8: alumni association to figure out those ways. And fortunate that
8:52
Speaker 8: the university has realized the need for a food pantry
8:55
Speaker 8: on campus and how can we then contribute to continuing
8:59
Speaker 8: those efforts all year long.
9:01
Speaker 6: That's that's interesting to me, a food pantry on campus.
9:04
Speaker 6: Talk about that a little bit.
9:06
Speaker 10: Yeah, So I actually last year I was student body
9:09
Speaker 10: president at Marshall University and after I graduated, I started
9:14
Speaker 10: as the director of Alumnie Engagement. Three days after I
9:16
Speaker 10: walked across the stage but while I was just going there,
9:20
Speaker 10: you go, exactly, so, while I was student body president,
9:23
Speaker 10: you know, there was this need of a food pantry
9:27
Speaker 10: on campus, and not that we did not have one
9:29
Speaker 10: in the past, but it was a very tiny food pantry.
9:31
Speaker 10: You know, we did a lot of benchmarking against peer institutions,
9:35
Speaker 10: especially within the Sunbelt Conference, and you know, our food
9:38
Speaker 10: pantry was just struggling because there was not a lot
9:41
Speaker 10: of space and you know, they served the students, but
9:43
Speaker 10: they would run out of food and there wasn't really
9:46
Speaker 10: a home base for them to be able to come to.
9:48
Speaker 10: So we actually rolled out an initiative with the support
9:51
Speaker 10: of many people on campus, where we actually combined a
9:54
Speaker 10: food pantry and a thrift store and it's called Marco's
9:57
Speaker 10: Market and More. And it's exactly it's it's an opportunity
10:01
Speaker 10: for students to be able to come and actually have
10:03
Speaker 10: that shopping atmosphere where they go in and they walk
10:06
Speaker 10: around and have baskets, and you know, it's much larger,
10:10
Speaker 10: so I think it quadrupled in size compared to what
10:13
Speaker 10: it used to be. But the thrift store, you know,
10:15
Speaker 10: focuses on the aspect of providing clothing for students on
10:19
Speaker 10: campus that may need business attire for an interview, may
10:23
Speaker 10: just need some marshal gear for a home game. And
10:25
Speaker 10: then the food pantry of course covers the aspect of
10:28
Speaker 10: being able to feed the students. But you know, in
10:30
Speaker 10: the past where they did not have a lot of space,
10:32
Speaker 10: it would be you know, things like ramen, and now
10:35
Speaker 10: it's really it's really expanded to produce and more more
10:38
Speaker 10: healthy food for the students to have access to.
10:41
Speaker 6: But you still have the ramen, right because you can't
10:42
Speaker 6: go to college without still have the ramen. Okay, yeah,
10:45
Speaker 6: that's a requirement when you're in college of a Aave
10:48
Speaker 6: Island Chilling five eighty Live is brought to you part
10:50
Speaker 6: by Pinnacle Consultants. They're lead paint inspection risk assessment services

10:56

Speaker 6: and an assessment report. To check out Pinnacle Corp. Dot
11:04
Speaker 6: net because what you don't know can hurt you talk
11:06
Speaker 6: about getting involved with the organization here. You talked about
11:09
Speaker 6: your social media and things of that nature. You've got
11:10
Speaker 6: any big big events coming up you want to want
11:12
Speaker 6: to we do. Thank you for that.
11:14
Speaker 8: On October the second, we're going to have our chapter launch.
11:18
Speaker 8: And for the last few years we've been operating kind
11:20
Speaker 8: of under the radar a little and now it's time
11:22
Speaker 8: to really rev up and try to get in touch
11:24
Speaker 8: with those eight thousand that are just in Kanawha County.
11:26
Speaker 8: And so October the second, from five thirty to eight thirty,
11:29
Speaker 8: we're going to be at the Roughner, which is located
11:32
Speaker 8: at fifteen hundred Cannab Boulevard. For those that don't know,
11:34
Speaker 8: it's a beautiful building. We want to invite all the
11:38
Speaker 8: Marshall lums friends of Marshall to come and mingle. And
11:42
Speaker 8: it's as somebody had said, it's not a fundraiser, it's
11:45
Speaker 8: a friend raiser. So everybody needs to come and check
11:49
Speaker 8: out the opportunities they have to get involved and see
11:54
Speaker 8: what we're all about.
11:55
Speaker 6: It's and you're right about the Roughner. It is an
11:58
Speaker 6: absolutely beautiful facility. Charleston's like to have something like that,
12:00
Speaker 6: to have not this, not only this events, but other
12:03
Speaker 6: events as well. And I don't think it's great what
12:07
Speaker 6: you folks are doing here. You know, to kind of
12:09
Speaker 6: keep people involved in anything that we can do here
12:12
Speaker 6: to help you. You know, we're right here, right here
12:14
Speaker 6: with you. Give us that date again, give us your
12:16
Speaker 6: social media, give us all the stuff again. And then Walker,
12:18
Speaker 6: I want to give you an opportunity to reach out
12:20
Speaker 6: to people maybe because you know this state. This the
12:22
Speaker 6: show goes worldwide sort of.
12:25
Speaker 8: Again at the roughner. We'll be there and please stop
12:32
Speaker 8: by at any point in time, spend the whole evening
12:35
Speaker 8: with us. We'd love to have you. Our social media
12:37
Speaker 8: is Marshall University, Kenauw Valley Alumni Chapter. We're on Facebook,
12:41
Speaker 8: LinkedIn Twitter, and you all could reach out to me
12:45
Speaker 8: through that and come and bring a friend.
12:48
Speaker 6: And do you guys have a normal meeting time? You
12:50
Speaker 6: folks have a like a like a monthly meeting, a
12:53
Speaker 6: monthly meeting.
12:53
Speaker 8: We're the third Wednesday of every month at five thirty
12:56
Speaker 8: and our location to be determined, so follow us on
12:59
Speaker 8: social media and find out the location during that month.
13:02
Speaker 8: And we had a meeting last night and we were
13:04
Speaker 8: very happy to have the one and only Dave Hayden
13:06
Speaker 8: join us. Oh good, great, it was a great meeting.
13:09

13:10
Speaker 6: was great to have him there. Hey, guys, I appreciate
13:12

17:20
Speaker 5: Dave.
17:20
Speaker 6: You're welcomer. Welcome to the show.
17:22
Speaker 7: Well, thanks for having me. And place looks great.
17:24
Speaker 6: You've been here, haven't you? In the new studio.
17:25
Speaker 16: I've seen it being developed, but I haven't seen it
17:28
Speaker 16: finished studio none. You've been here, no, no, no, This
17:31
Speaker 16: is I guess the first time here seeing it to
17:33
Speaker 16: what looks to be completed.
17:35
Speaker 6: Well, it's never completed because there's always things to do.
17:38
Speaker 6: But for the most part. It's completed. Uh see, we
17:41
Speaker 6: have one TV screen. We don't have the other one,
17:43
Speaker 6: the other one. Uh we got to get it up
17:45
Speaker 6: so that way I can watch In addition to keeping
17:47
Speaker 6: it on the news channel, I can also watch Jerry
17:49
Speaker 6: Springer when I'm on the air, because that's very important
17:51
Speaker 6: to me.
17:51
Speaker 7: You know, I figured you'd have wrestling on there.
17:53
Speaker 6: Old school wrestle, not sports entertainment. I want Rick Flair
17:57
Speaker 6: and the Free Birds and Dusty Roads.
17:58
Speaker 7: That's what I would expect.
17:59
Speaker 11: Nothing.
18:00
Speaker 17: Nothing.
18:00
Speaker 6: I want to know one of this new junk out there.
18:02
Speaker 6: All right, So I haven't seen in a while. What's
18:06
Speaker 6: been going on with you? I got a lot of
18:07
Speaker 6: things I want to talk about, but overall, what's going
18:09
Speaker 6: on in the world Eric Tar these days?
18:10
Speaker 7: You know, it's been a great summer. We've the to
18:13
Speaker 7: our family businesses.
18:14
Speaker 16: We've really focused on a lot of growth over this
18:16
Speaker 16: year and reinvesting back into some of our communities. So
18:19
Speaker 16: we've added another physical therapy practice to the Generations line
18:23
Speaker 16: up in the Willing area. We acquired a practice up
18:26
Speaker 16: in Willing. So now we kind of spend wanting to
18:30
Speaker 16: state to the other as far as you go along
18:32
Speaker 16: sixty four and seventy seven, seventy nine up that way,
18:35
Speaker 16: and then we've most recently just bought a Ford dealership
18:39
Speaker 16: down Hurricane. So we're we started construction this week the
18:43
Speaker 16: old Midway Forward Midway Forward. Yes, now generations for so full.
18:47
Speaker 6: Disclosure sponsor of the show. We appreciate that. But so
18:52
Speaker 6: why why the car business? I mean, you're you know,
18:54
Speaker 6: you've been in the physical thing. I mean, you've got
18:56
Speaker 6: a lot of different businesses your your family does, But
18:58
Speaker 6: i mean, why the car business. I'm a gearhead, I
19:01
Speaker 6: know this about you.
19:02
Speaker 16: Yeah, yeah, So you know, if you come and see
19:04
Speaker 16: my house, you look at our front yard, it looks
19:06
Speaker 16: like a car lot there and has for years. So
19:09
Speaker 16: I've I like cars that are loud and aggressive and
19:12
Speaker 16: that type of hot rod mentality. So from the time
19:16
Speaker 16: I was a kid, you know, my first car built it.
19:18
Speaker 16: You know, we bought a car for two hundred bucks
19:21
Speaker 16: on box in the back of the yard, Old Trino GT.
19:24
Speaker 16: Cobridge at nineteen seventy model when I was fourteen. Took
19:27
Speaker 16: two years built that car up. That's why I've drove
19:29
Speaker 16: when I was sixteen, So you know, I've I've done
19:31
Speaker 16: body shop work, I've worked in garages and stuff, so
19:34
Speaker 16: that I just have that kind of love for the
19:38
Speaker 16: auto industry for what you get out of them, the
19:41
Speaker 16: fun out of them, and so that's what you're gonna
19:43
Speaker 16: see here. We're also you know, became a Roush distributor too,
19:45
Speaker 16: so we we I believe, I know we're the only
19:48
Speaker 16: one in our area, but I think we're the only
19:49
Speaker 16: grasse diler in state. So, you know, Raush is the
19:52
Speaker 16: kind of the performance sports side of Ford and so
19:55
Speaker 16: we've already had some Roush vehicles come in. We had one,
19:58
Speaker 16: I mean it just pulled off the actor trailer and
20:00
Speaker 16: got sold. There there's gorgeous vehicles.
20:03
Speaker 6: Uh so what kind of vehicles are I mean, you
20:05
Speaker 6: put see the Raush name on it, but what kind
20:06
Speaker 6: of kind of different Raush vehicles. What kind of vehicles
20:09
Speaker 6: have you put their names on? I should say, so yeah.
20:11
Speaker 7: Raush will put there.
20:13
Speaker 16: We have F two fifties and F one fifties. Okay,
20:15
Speaker 16: if one fifties right now, we should have some hitting
20:17
Speaker 16: a lot here real soon. They're they're in delivery status
20:20
Speaker 16: to us. We've got one F two fifty Raush.
20:23
Speaker 7: It's there.
20:23
Speaker 16: It's got the high output six point sevent diesel in it.
20:26
Speaker 16: And if you what I've told people, they're kind of
20:29
Speaker 16: like a stepped up F two fifty platinum.
20:32
Speaker 7: When you look at them, they're just they're posh.
20:36
Speaker 16: They know, they're pretty incredible trucks there. There's some pretty
20:38
Speaker 16: destructs I've ever seen.
20:40
Speaker 4: Uh.
20:40
Speaker 16: And then they also do Mustangs. We haven't got any
20:43
Speaker 16: Mustangs on order right now.
20:44
Speaker 7: Uh.
20:45
Speaker 16: You know, Ford's coming out with a new Mustang, and
20:46
Speaker 16: I believe Raush is waiting on those new Mustangs before
20:49
Speaker 16: they start putting their their badges on them. So uh,
20:51
Speaker 16: it's fun. It's like every time Attract trailer comes up there,
20:54
Speaker 16: it's like Christmas.
20:55
Speaker 6: Yeah, you're you're in addition to being one of the owners,
20:58
Speaker 6: you're like.
20:58
Speaker 7: Oh, that's exactly right.
21:00
Speaker 6: I need that, put a D tag on that.
21:02
Speaker 4: I need that.
21:02
Speaker 7: I'm going to need a bigger front yard, I guess.
21:06
Speaker 2: Uh.
21:06
Speaker 6: And you know, Midway has been such a big player,
21:10
Speaker 6: you know, for so long in the automotive industry here,
21:13
Speaker 6: and it's right up you see it if you if
21:14
Speaker 6: you're driving by hurricanes right off the exit, you can't
21:16
Speaker 6: miss it there. And it's it's great to see that
21:18
Speaker 6: that that dealership was able to that. You folks were
21:21
Speaker 6: able to step in there and keep the dealership going.
21:24
Speaker 16: I'm not done the Kinnear family for a very long time.
21:26
Speaker 16: You know, we've been customers. We some of our other
21:27
Speaker 16: businesses that we have require i F. Two fifties up
21:31
Speaker 16: to F five to fifty delivery trucks. We have a
21:33
Speaker 16: business called General Hardware that delivers hardware and building contractor
21:38
Speaker 16: or excuse me, building materials, so to have contractor sales front,
21:42
Speaker 16: things like that to it. So we had a lot
21:43
Speaker 16: of delivery trucks and we bought from Midway for years.
21:46
Speaker 16: So I knew those guys out there, knew the family,
21:48
Speaker 16: knew Lowis really well over the years, the kind of
21:51
Speaker 16: a mom of the family down there. And so when
21:56
Speaker 16: they were getting to the point where they were about
21:57
Speaker 16: ready to sell, you know, of course we went in
21:59
Speaker 16: and talked to them, and I was really blessed to
22:00
Speaker 16: go in and that relationship helped close a lot of
22:03
Speaker 16: that deal to get that started. So they've had the
22:06
Speaker 16: dealership I think since the seventies, nineteen seventy seven something
22:09
Speaker 16: like that.
22:09
Speaker 7: Wow, So you know, it's it's a family business.
22:12
Speaker 16: And like I say, you know, the family business is
22:13
Speaker 16: really what we do well, and so we come in
22:17
Speaker 16: kind of change it from that family over.
22:18
Speaker 7: To ours, and we're growing it.
22:19
Speaker 16: So we're adding a couple of acres of storage for
22:22
Speaker 16: cars out there, so as far as a lot, we're
22:24
Speaker 16: well grow it two more acres, so a lot of
22:27
Speaker 16: inventory coming that way. We're putting a brand new, shiny
22:29
Speaker 16: penny of a dealership in Hurrik and it'll be beautiful
22:31
Speaker 16: right there on I sixty four six acres long it.
22:34
Speaker 7: So it's it's exciting.
22:36
Speaker 6: And that's one of the things I like about you
22:37
Speaker 6: know this, because you know, you're somebody that is based
22:40
Speaker 6: in Putnam County. You've been here, you know, for a
22:42
Speaker 6: long long time. And the fact is is that that's
22:46
Speaker 6: going to stay a Putnam County slash Canaw Valley business.
22:50
Speaker 6: It's not going to have an out of out of
22:52
Speaker 6: state name on it or anything like that. It's going
22:54
Speaker 6: to remain a local.
22:55
Speaker 7: Business, absolutely yeah.
22:57
Speaker 16: And the community has really come out and said thank
22:58
Speaker 16: you a lot for that too, And that's kind of
23:00
Speaker 16: our mantra. If you look at some of the other
23:03
Speaker 16: businesses we have, I think the tar family has around
23:07
Speaker 16: fourteen fifteen businesses there in Putnam County when you come
23:10
Speaker 16: them by location. So when you go in and look
23:13
Speaker 16: at what we've done the areas, we take an awful
23:16
Speaker 16: lot of pride in making the area that we go
23:19
Speaker 16: in and do business in better. If you go and
23:22
Speaker 16: look what we did across from the courthouse there down
23:24
Speaker 16: on Winnfield, there was a grocery store that became dilapidated
23:28
Speaker 16: a few years back, and it was an ice ore,
23:30
Speaker 16: and we demolished all that built a brand new, beautiful
23:33
Speaker 16: facility down there, twenty eight thousand square foot of commercial
23:36
Speaker 16: and residential space that really stepped up that area of Winfield.
23:40
Speaker 7: You're going to see that in Hurkin here as well.
23:43
Speaker 16: So one of the things that you'll see is when
23:45
Speaker 16: you get a business's size there, the traffic and things
23:48
Speaker 16: that you can bring in, which Hurricane already has a
23:50
Speaker 16: lot of traffic.
23:50
Speaker 7: If you live in hurc and you're going to know
23:51
Speaker 7: the traffic.
23:52
Speaker 16: But the thing that it brings is the ability to
23:55
Speaker 16: even scale that community even two more amenities, amenities of
24:00
Speaker 16: life that they add quality to the community. So I'm
24:03
Speaker 16: excited about it. It's a fun thing for me to do.
24:05
Speaker 16: I'm a builder, so I love going in and getting all.
24:07
Speaker 6: These processes on to play with the cars man, Come on,
24:10
Speaker 6: you know me? All right, let's switch gears. Let me
24:14
Speaker 6: give a little transition here to Dave Allen Show and

24:33
Speaker 6: dot EEDU for details. Bridge Valley Community and Technical College.
24:36
Speaker 6: Your career starts here. All right, let's talk some political
24:39
Speaker 6: stuff right now. You are sitting Senator out of the
24:45
Speaker 6: fourth district, and already that I'm aware of, there have
24:50
Speaker 6: been two people that have signed up to run against you,
24:54
Speaker 6: possibly possibly more so you got you got opposition next time?
24:58
Speaker 16: Oh yeah, and you and I understand why knows there's
25:01
Speaker 16: a lot of excitement happening right now in West Virginia
25:04
Speaker 16: over the past few years, and I've been blessed to
25:08
Speaker 16: be invited in when the change was.
25:12
Speaker 11: Lected.
25:13
Speaker 16: I was elected in eighteen eighten. But I came you know,
25:15
Speaker 16: I came up, but you evolved in it before that.
25:17
Speaker 7: Absolutely.
25:18
Speaker 16: When the Republicans took majority in twenty fifteen, the budget
25:20
Speaker 16: was upside down.
25:21
Speaker 7: The estimate to come up.
25:22
Speaker 16: To help help get it figured out, Uh, they laid
25:24
Speaker 16: out a vision for West Virginia. That team actually the
25:27
Speaker 16: some one of the meetings, we sit down laying out
25:28
Speaker 16: that vision. It's one of my favorite pictures I have
25:30
Speaker 16: in my office. And so we kind of sit down
25:33
Speaker 16: talking about what it should look like, put that plan together,
25:36
Speaker 16: and then and then stepped on the gas with that plan.
25:39
Speaker 16: And in you know, Putnam County, for sure, you'll see
25:41
Speaker 16: the fruit of that labor. You see it also in
25:44
Speaker 16: Mason County, you see it at Jackson County, you're seeing
25:47
Speaker 16: at Capbell County. Throughout this district and really throughout the
25:50
Speaker 16: state of West Virginia, it's been an incredible success. So
25:53
Speaker 16: I can see people wanting to jump in and say, hey,
25:55
Speaker 16: I want to be part of that. You know, that's
25:56
Speaker 16: that's that's it's exciting. The thing is is that you
26:01
Speaker 16: know it doesn't happen. It didn't happen by luck, it
26:04
Speaker 16: didn't happen overnight.
26:07
Speaker 11: It took.
26:08
Speaker 16: It took a lot of relationship building because way before
26:11
Speaker 16: I was ever invited up there in twenty fifteen, those
26:14
Speaker 16: relationships were established in the nineties and it had to
26:17
Speaker 16: do with just some business practices at Westernia had that
26:20
Speaker 16: were that were anti competitive within the state. They kept
26:25
Speaker 16: us from competing in the nation, kept us from competing
26:27
Speaker 16: around the globe. So I got involved in around the
26:30
Speaker 16: business side. I thinks tries to start changing policy and
26:33
Speaker 16: all those relationships. So you know, I'm not a Johnny
26:36
Speaker 16: come Lately on this. It was was well thought out
26:39
Speaker 16: and it was planned to get where we are now,
26:41
Speaker 16: and there's a lot more to do, but I can
26:43
Speaker 16: see people wanting to jump in and be.
26:45
Speaker 7: Part of the success as it's happening. Can't fold any
26:48
Speaker 7: back for that.
26:49
Speaker 6: And you know, I have an open door policy on this.
26:52
Speaker 6: And I've already had one of your opponents on and
26:54
Speaker 6: I'll have the other one on, you know at some
26:56
Speaker 6: point and have you want as a just a candidate
26:59
Speaker 6: any point two. But I'm gonna try to phrase this
27:03
Speaker 6: as best I can. You have expressed concerns that some
27:08
Speaker 6: of the folks that are running and I'm not going
27:11
Speaker 6: to get into personalities or anything like that, because it's America.
27:13
Speaker 6: God bless them they. I can remember when we didn't
27:15
Speaker 6: have enough Republicans to be poll workers, you know, and
27:18
Speaker 6: we had to have Democrats service Republican bullworkers, but we
27:20
Speaker 6: didn't have enough. It's a sign of success of the
27:23
Speaker 6: party in what it's done in West Virginia. But you've
27:25
Speaker 6: expressed some concern about some of the people that are running,
27:28
Speaker 6: not specifically the names, but their intentions and who may
27:32
Speaker 6: be behind it.
27:33
Speaker 16: Yeah, so you know, there's a came off Senate president's
27:36
Speaker 16: race this last this last session before and so there's
27:40
Speaker 16: three of us that was in their contenders, and I
27:43
Speaker 16: know that you know, Senator was me, Randy Smith who's
27:46
Speaker 16: now Senate President Tom Takubo were competitors in that. And
27:49
Speaker 16: so out of this past session there were some frustrations
27:52
Speaker 16: out of there, especially from the Cuboat camp out there.
27:56
Speaker 16: And he's been recruiting candadate's all across the state and
27:59
Speaker 16: so you know, I've had under really really good trusting recommendation.
28:06
Speaker 7: They're not recommendations.
28:07
Speaker 16: Word come to me that those recruits came from him,
28:10
Speaker 16: and I think he tried to recruit both of them,
28:12
Speaker 16: one of them wouldn't back out, and so now he's
28:14
Speaker 16: got two of them in the race and he's worried
28:15
Speaker 16: about splitting the vote trying to talk to the other
28:17
Speaker 16: one out. So it's this, This has been one of
28:20
Speaker 16: the efforts I think, coming out to Kubo Campe's recruit
28:23
Speaker 16: candidates across the state.
28:24
Speaker 7: So now that's that's that's where that's where I believe
28:28
Speaker 7: it's coming from.
28:29
Speaker 6: Well, and as I said on this show, Eric, you
28:32
Speaker 6: know me well enough to know I have everybody on
28:34
Speaker 6: the show, So I'll have I have anybody mister t
28:37
Speaker 6: Kubar or anybody on the show and wants to come
28:38
Speaker 6: on to talk about it. I mean, that's that's the
28:40
Speaker 6: way we uh, that's the way we do things up here.
28:43
Speaker 6: I want to talk about some things under the dome,
28:45
Speaker 6: not related to the election interims. We're just held no
28:49
Speaker 6: special session and no talk of a way forward with
28:51
Speaker 6: pe i A. Now, you're a numbers guy.
28:53
Speaker 3: I know you.
28:53
Speaker 6: You said you got involved in politics well before you
28:56
Speaker 6: ran for office because they invited you in to kind
28:58
Speaker 6: of help them with the budget and things of that.
29:01
Speaker 6: But where what's the way forward to Pei?
29:03
Speaker 12: Is there one?
29:04
Speaker 6: And how do you what's your take on the whole thing.
29:06
Speaker 16: Yes, one of the things we did a couple of
29:09
Speaker 16: years ago was sett in Two things we did with PA.
29:12
Speaker 7: One is that we gave an.
29:13
Speaker 16: Awful lot of authority to the PA board to change
29:17
Speaker 16: the plan as they need to adapt to the changes
29:21
Speaker 16: in healthcare costs and so. And the reason you do
29:23
Speaker 16: that is in the private sector, you know, I negotiate
29:26
Speaker 16: for health care plans every year. Our companies do for
29:29
Speaker 16: a couple hundred employees. And when you do that, you
29:32
Speaker 16: have to really adapt your benefits plan. You have to
29:35
Speaker 16: adapt your copays, co insurance, deductibles, all those type things
29:38
Speaker 16: every time you negotiate them, and what kind of services
29:41
Speaker 16: you're going to provide and make available. You really don't
29:45
Speaker 16: want to micro manage that type of change through the legislature,
29:49
Speaker 16: So you have to have somebody who can move quicker
29:51
Speaker 16: than the legislature.
29:52
Speaker 7: So we gave the governor and the.
29:53
Speaker 16: PIA board that authority to do that a couple years
29:55
Speaker 16: back as the legislature. The other thing we did is
29:58
Speaker 16: that you know Governor Jim Justice when he was in office,
30:02
Speaker 16: one of the things he did is he suppressed PIA
30:04
Speaker 16: premiums for eight years. In other words, he did not
30:06
Speaker 16: increase PIA premiums for eight years. And while he has
30:12
Speaker 16: not increased those premiums for eight years, every year medical
30:15
Speaker 16: costs went up. So when you suddenly have to catch up,
30:18
Speaker 16: you're catching up on eight years of sometimes double digit
30:20
Speaker 16: growth per year on a PA premium and that is
30:23
Speaker 16: shocking to somebody who has PI health insurance. So I
30:27
Speaker 16: didn't agree with suppressing his premiums along that way. We
30:30
Speaker 16: were all very vocal about it, but you know, that's
30:32
Speaker 16: just where it was. So now, after Governor Justice leaves
30:37
Speaker 16: and PIA premiums jumped their back through the roof, we
30:40
Speaker 16: have to get the state, which is a partner in PA,
30:43
Speaker 16: with the employees as well. We made it an eighty
30:46
Speaker 16: twenty plan, so when the expense of providing the care
30:49
Speaker 16: that is associated with that insurance goes up, the state
30:53
Speaker 16: shares eighty percent of it. The employees of the state
30:56
Speaker 16: share twenty percent of it. That's the way the plans
30:58
Speaker 16: set up. Right now, it's a phenomenal pl If you
31:00
Speaker 16: have PIA, it's cheaper. The most commercial engineers is right now.
31:03
Speaker 16: The benefit side of it is really strong. If you're
31:06
Speaker 16: a recipient of it. It doesn't pay very well if
31:08
Speaker 16: you're a provider and you have a PIA patient, frankly,
31:12
Speaker 16: but it's so the challenge is is that medical costs
31:16
Speaker 16: are still going up, especially prescription costs, they're still going up.
31:20
Speaker 16: I do think that if the governor feels like that
31:22
Speaker 16: that he needs more wiggle room within the PIA board
31:26
Speaker 16: to make changes, that's the way to do it, because
31:28
Speaker 16: going in and micromanaging it through the legislature is not
31:30
Speaker 16: the way to do it because you'll never be able
31:34
Speaker 16: to You're always going to behind the eight ball and
31:36
Speaker 16: negotiation forgetting where you need to be with anybody you're
31:38
Speaker 16: dealing with, whether it's a partmaceutical benefit manager, whether it's
31:40
Speaker 16: the providers of health care and all those people, you
31:42
Speaker 16: have to negotiate get the prices down. So I think,
31:46
Speaker 16: you know, if you're going to go in look at
31:47
Speaker 16: PIA as a whole one, you need that flexibility and
31:51
Speaker 16: governor's offto make decisions and make too is I think
31:54
Speaker 16: that at some point there has to be some accountability
31:57
Speaker 16: in the system. And that accountability I mean is like
32:00
Speaker 16: for any of our businesses, we're negotiate health care if
32:04
Speaker 16: we use the health insurance more or if we're more
32:07
Speaker 16: expensive in the way that we use it, I can
32:09
Speaker 16: pretty much bank on the next year my premiums are
32:12
Speaker 16: going up because the utilization went up, the expense of
32:15
Speaker 16: the plan went up.
32:17
Speaker 7: So m PA and that that doesn't exist.
32:19
Speaker 16: The only way that exists is across the whole thing.
32:22
Speaker 16: And you have a lot of different groups that are
32:24
Speaker 16: covered by PA. You mean, all the way from college
32:26
Speaker 16: professors down to you know, somebody who could be overworking
32:31
Speaker 16: in highways or something back and forth with that. So
32:33
Speaker 16: so there's a spectrum of people who have a different
32:36
Speaker 16: utilization that plan. I think going in putting some accountability
32:39
Speaker 16: on the usage of that plan probably would at some
32:42
Speaker 16: point bring down cost as well. I don't think it'd
32:44
Speaker 16: be dramatic, but I think it would be enough that
32:48
Speaker 16: you start getting people paying more attention to how they
32:50
Speaker 16: use the plan, so and that may can control some costs.
32:53
Speaker 6: I got a question for you, and then we have
32:54
Speaker 6: to let you go. Somebody ask any update on when
32:59
Speaker 6: we could get sixty repayd from Saint Albans to Milton
33:02
Speaker 6: Road is in horrible shape.
33:04
Speaker 16: Sixty to Saint Albans to Milton You know, I don't.
33:06
Speaker 16: I don't have that date ingrained in my head right now,
33:09
Speaker 16: so I'll cross the Senate District four. There's a lot
33:12
Speaker 16: of planned paving still yet that's a head for the
33:15
Speaker 16: district and also patching and things like that. You can
33:17
Speaker 16: go on Doh and look at the there's a website
33:20
Speaker 16: there they have and you can go and actually go
33:22
Speaker 16: on the route and see when it's supposed to be
33:24
Speaker 16: done next if it's patching, paving and trimming on the trees,
33:28
Speaker 16: those type things. But it's a if as it goes along,
33:33
Speaker 16: I expect that it'll be right on their schedule.

36:55
Speaker 6: Thank you for having you just came from a ribbon
36:57
Speaker 6: cutting of a of a new store, right.
36:59
Speaker 5: Yes, sir, the Dollar Tree in town. It's in the
37:02
Speaker 5: place where the Joe Anne Fabers used to be and
37:04
Speaker 5: it is the largest dollar tree in the valley now.
37:07
Speaker 5: So we are excited to have a new business in
37:11
Speaker 5: a place that we were used to having and we
37:14
Speaker 5: were worried about it being an empty building for a
37:16
Speaker 5: long time. But now we got a brand new, very
37:18
Speaker 5: large dollar tree. All right, Well, that's good.
37:21
Speaker 6: That certainly is a good news. Now you got to
37:23
Speaker 6: Fall festival going on, right, yes, sir.
37:25
Speaker 5: Tomorrow evenings on the September of the nineteenth, at five o'clock,
37:29
Speaker 5: we're kicking things off. We have a young lady that's
37:33
Speaker 5: local and she's going to be kicking it off with
37:36
Speaker 5: singing for us, and then the band Non Friction at seven.
37:40
Speaker 5: We will also have wrestling at the City Hall at
37:43
Speaker 5: seven pm, and then the Ultimate Eagles Experience Seven Bridges
37:48
Speaker 5: will be there at eight o'clock.
37:50
Speaker 6: And let me tell you, I have seen seven Bridges
37:52
Speaker 6: in the past. They are fantastic. Of course. The name
37:55
Speaker 6: comes from the classic song seven Bridges Road by the Eagles,
37:59
Speaker 6: which totally trivial information because I got a head full
38:02
Speaker 6: of it. Is the Seven Bridges Road actually refers to
38:04
Speaker 6: the to the road to the gravesite of Hank Wakes, correct. Yeah,
38:08
Speaker 6: and you knew that, right, I didn't. I didn't impart
38:11
Speaker 6: any new knowledge on you. You knew I've heard it.
38:13
Speaker 6: I didn't know it for sure, but I've heard that. Well,
38:15
Speaker 6: that's what it refers to.
38:16
Speaker 5: Yeah, and you know, they've been under contract with the
38:19
Speaker 5: City of South Charleston for their Mound Festival or Summerfest
38:22
Speaker 5: for the last three years and we were able to
38:25
Speaker 5: get them back here.
38:26
Speaker 7: So I think it'll be a great.
38:27
Speaker 5: Turnout tomorrow night. Weather's good, Yeah, a little bit, gonna
38:31
Speaker 5: be a little bit warm. It always it seems to
38:33
Speaker 5: hit back whenever. You know, you have these nice cool evenings,
38:36
Speaker 5: then all of a sudden you get back to nineties again.
38:39
Speaker 7: It always happens on our weekend that we have.
38:41
Speaker 6: It's weird because I mean fall, you know, I said
38:43
Speaker 6: this earlier. Fall starts on Monday, and we haven't had
38:47
Speaker 6: anything remotely resembling fault, but we will, and come January
38:52
Speaker 6: we'll be saying, hey, remember that that ninety degree day
38:55
Speaker 6: in Dunbar in September. We'll wish we had it again,
38:57
Speaker 6: but go ahead and keep talking about the best.
38:59
Speaker 5: Yeah, Okay. On Saturday, we're going to start things out
39:02
Speaker 5: at eleven am and we'll have the middle school bands.
39:05
Speaker 5: There's a little bit of a rivalry competition from Dunbar
39:09
Speaker 5: Middle School in South Charleston Middle School and everybody will
39:11
Speaker 5: be jamming to the bands. We will turn around and
39:16
Speaker 5: get a DJ from twelve to four, and then the
39:20
Speaker 5: during that time there's kids corners and it will be
39:23
Speaker 5: all in front of City Hall from one o'clock to
39:25
Speaker 5: four o'clock and it'll be jump houses and different things
39:30
Speaker 5: like that. Then the Charleston Ballet will perform. Jim Strawn
39:35
Speaker 5: and the other people will be down there, I'm sure,
39:39
Speaker 5: and Jim's a big supporter us.
39:41
Speaker 6: As soon as you said Jim Strown in Ballet, I
39:43
Speaker 6: was saying, please tell me he's not out there.
39:44
Speaker 5: Yeah, no, but he'll he'll be down there and have
39:47
Speaker 5: a good time. That'll be a good time. They're on
39:50
Speaker 5: the stage for about an hour and then we have
39:53
Speaker 5: some other local talent. The Appalachian Lightning Band will be
40:00
Speaker 5: at seven o'clock and then after the Appalachian Lightning band.
40:03
Speaker 5: We have the seventy seventh experience. Last year they were there.
40:09
Speaker 5: They're a great band and they play everything from the
40:12
Speaker 5: seventies right, and they were very very well liked last year.
40:18
Speaker 5: So we brought them back and I think it'll be.
40:20
Speaker 6: Like a little disco, a little rock, a little bit
40:22
Speaker 6: of a little bit of everything, a little bit of everything. Well,
40:24
Speaker 6: if you talk about music of the nineteen seventies, it
40:26
Speaker 6: is a little bit of everything. It's all over the board. Correct.
40:29
Speaker 5: And then we loved it so much last year we
40:34
Speaker 5: as soon as they got off stage, we were raised
40:36
Speaker 5: signed another contract.
40:37
Speaker 6: A contract. They were good. He's a contact and you know,
40:40
Speaker 6: here's the thing I love about this these things is
40:42
Speaker 6: where you know, whether it's this festival or so many
40:46
Speaker 6: other of the communities have them as well, this is
40:50
Speaker 6: the majority of the stuff is free. Now you can
40:52
Speaker 6: come out and I'm sure you're gonna have food, and
40:54
Speaker 6: there'll be a costume for things like that, but just
40:56
Speaker 6: to come out and listen to the music and do
40:58
Speaker 6: obviously it's all.
40:58
Speaker 5: Free and be back in Don't Bar. You know, for
41:01
Speaker 5: a lot of people come back just for this every year.
41:04
Speaker 5: There's people that oh it's great, Yeah, definitely a homecoming.
41:08
Speaker 5: You'll see people that you haven't seen in twenty years,
41:11
Speaker 5: you know, and they come back just for this, and
41:14
Speaker 5: you know, it's I call it a reunion every year
41:17
Speaker 5: for certain ones of us that are around, especially they're there.
41:21
Speaker 5: They come in and as you mingle through the crowd,
41:24
Speaker 5: you run into old friends. And then of course the music,
41:28
Speaker 5: but the everything's free. The food, of course you've got
41:31
Speaker 5: to pay for that. And there's going to be crafters
41:33
Speaker 5: all over the facility. I think we have fifty nine
41:36
Speaker 5: crafters and people selling stuff this year.
41:39
Speaker 6: It's all good, and it's all good and to get
41:41
Speaker 6: so many of these things are free. If people want
41:43
Speaker 6: to sign it to be a vendor, you know, you
41:45
Speaker 6: talk about the crafters or some food.
41:47
Speaker 5: Is it too late for that? Can it is too
41:49
Speaker 5: late for this one this year? The other the other
41:53
Speaker 5: thing we're having is a treasure hunt. They will be
41:57
Speaker 5: able to come in and take their phones and scan
41:59
Speaker 5: a thing and it'll tell them different tasks to do
42:03
Speaker 5: for everybody, and then I think it's one hundred and
42:05
Speaker 5: forty nine people can participate and while whenever they get done,
42:09
Speaker 5: whoever has the most points, we'll get some prizes.
42:15
Speaker 6: Somebody asked here, I think you mentioned that you had
42:17
Speaker 6: a DJ there. Okay, they wanted to know, and I apologize.
42:20
Speaker 6: We're working on lighting here in the studio today, so
42:22
Speaker 6: we're putting you under all the lights here. You know,
42:25
Speaker 6: we've got bright lights now we're in a dark so
42:28
Speaker 6: it's a work in progress. But they wanted to know
42:29
Speaker 6: what kind of music a DJ plays? And oldies, pop,
42:32
Speaker 6: hip hop, country, et cetera. I mean most DJs do
42:34
Speaker 6: a little bit of everything.
42:35
Speaker 5: He does everything. Sam Gasway is our DJ, and he'll
42:38
Speaker 5: be running things and he has it from country, rock,
42:43

Speaker 6: text about the Jimmy Campbell situation. So I'm gonna knock
45:57
Speaker 6: these out and we'll cover it more on Metro News Midday.
46:00
Speaker 6: Coming up a little bit later on the day, text says, Hey, Dave,
46:01
Speaker 6: how about another First Amendment violation by the Trump administration.
46:04
Speaker 6: Kimmell got fired because he criticized Maga from the La Times.
46:09
Speaker 6: Next Star's decision comes just after the Federal Communications Commission
46:14
Speaker 6: Chairman Brendan Carr blasted Kimmel and threat to take action
46:17
Speaker 6: against ABC. Appearing on the podcast of right wing commentator's
46:20
Speaker 6: Benny Johnson, Carr said one form of punishment could be
46:24
Speaker 6: pulling the licenses of ABC affiliates, which likely got next
46:27
Speaker 6: to ours attention. HM, tell me how this isn't a
46:30
Speaker 6: First Amendment violation. I am all over the place when
46:36
Speaker 6: it comes to the Jimmy Cammel situation. All right, and okay,
46:42
Speaker 6: First of all, ABC is a private company. ABC can
46:47
Speaker 6: do whatever they want. And so when if you use
46:50
Speaker 6: the term censorship, it's not censorship. They're a private company.
46:54
Speaker 6: If the government comes out and says you can't see this,
46:58
Speaker 6: listen to this, hear this, Read this, that's censorship. What
47:01
Speaker 6: ABC did is not censorship. It's not a violation of
47:04
Speaker 6: First Amendment rights. Jimmy Kimmel is an employee of a company.
47:08
Speaker 6: And I will give you an example. You know, I
47:10
Speaker 6: have a lot of sponsors to the show. You hear
47:12
Speaker 6: me read them every day. Everybody from Generations for to
47:15
Speaker 6: Hustin's Pizza to all you know on down the line.
47:18
Speaker 6: You hear me read them, Okay. If I say something
47:21
Speaker 6: on the show that one of those advertisers doesn't agree with,
47:26
Speaker 6: they go upstairs. They talk to mister Parsons and mister
47:29
Speaker 6: Cooper and say, hey, we no longer want to sponsor
47:32
Speaker 6: this show because we don't like what Dave Allen or
47:34
Speaker 6: one of his guests or whatever said on the show.
47:37
Speaker 6: I'm gonna get an email, and i'm gonna get a memo.
47:39
Speaker 6: I'm gonna get called out of the office, and they're
47:40
Speaker 6: gonna say, hey, so, and I'm gonna use Tony the
47:43
Speaker 6: Taylor for example, because Tony is my buddy and he
47:47
Speaker 6: sponsors the text line, and Tony doesn't get offended by anything.
47:50
Speaker 6: I'll use Tony for example. So Tony Parnzino of Tony
47:53
Speaker 6: the Taylor calls my bosses and says, I don't like
47:58
Speaker 6: what Dave said, I don't like what Dave's guest said.
48:01
Speaker 6: I am going to stop sponsoring the show. Then here's
48:04
Speaker 6: what I'm gonna get. I am gonna get either knock
48:07
Speaker 6: it off or we're gonna lose an advertiser. And if
48:09
Speaker 6: I don't knock it off. I'm probably gonna get fired.
48:11
Speaker 6: That's called the free market, all right. Now that having
48:15
Speaker 6: been said, I will say this, I don't like the
48:19
Speaker 6: FCC being involved in this. I like a If ABC
48:22
Speaker 6: wants to do it, next door wants to do it,
48:24
Speaker 6: I have no problem with it whatsoever. However a FCC
48:29
Speaker 6: chairman gets involved, President Trump is involved, I got a
48:33
Speaker 6: real problem with it, A real problem with it. Now,
48:36
Speaker 6: as far as Jimmy Kimmel goes, I've never watched a
48:38
Speaker 6: single episode, mainly because I go to bed at nine o'clock, okay,
48:41
Speaker 6: and I don't care enough to record. Jimmy Kimmel peaked
48:44
Speaker 6: with me with The Man Show, okay, And so if
48:47
Speaker 6: there's not girls jumping on trampolines that he did on
48:49
Speaker 6: The Man Show, then I am not I'm not gonna
48:51
Speaker 6: watch it, you know. And people like Kimmel and Colbert,
48:56
Speaker 6: although they have the right to do whatever they want
48:58
Speaker 6: to do, they kind of forgot that in comedy you
49:00
Speaker 6: need to make fun of everybody. That's what made That's
49:04
Speaker 6: what made Johnny Carson so great. If Carson were doing
49:07
Speaker 6: his show today, he would have been attacking Trump. He
49:09
Speaker 6: would have also been attacking Biden, Harris, AOC, so on
49:12
Speaker 6: and so forth. Some of these guys kind of forgot that,
49:15
Speaker 6: I think. But it's okay. But again, I split it
49:18
Speaker 6: right down the middle on this. You know, I do
49:20
Speaker 6: have a problem with the FCC getting involved. I have
49:23
Speaker 6: a problem with President Trump weighing in. But if ABC
49:26
Speaker 6: any of these companies have an issue and it comes
49:29
Speaker 6: to the advertising dollars, then I have an issue with it.
49:32
Speaker 6: That's kind of where I am on that, and I'm
49:35
Speaker 6: weigh in more on this later today on the midday show,
49:38
Speaker 6: Texas Davis, a Christian, I'm confused about what my pastor's
49:41
Speaker 6: preaching and cheating. Is he right or is Charlie Kirk right,
49:44
Speaker 6: because they are totally different messages. I'm getting Kirk's side
49:49
Speaker 6: of it, not the Bible reading the King James version.
49:52
Speaker 6: Texas David, our legislators have been a total failure to
49:54
Speaker 6: our state. Too much focused on social issues and taking
49:58
Speaker 6: over local government and control of locals school boards. We
50:00
Speaker 6: need jobs and better pay. Can't keep up with higher prices,
50:04
Speaker 6: says a Texster.
50:06
Speaker 19: Uh.
50:07
Speaker 6: Okay, I appreciate this text, but it is way too long.
50:10
Speaker 7: For me to read.
50:11
Speaker 6: And this basically says, no more tears for Kimmel. He's
50:15
Speaker 6: a vile, despicable human being. Little reminder, however, rose In
50:18
Speaker 6: Bar fired by ABC and Disney and our hit show
50:21
Speaker 6: rose In canceled over night in twenty eighteen after one tweet.
50:24
Speaker 6: Hundreds of cast and crew lost their jobs, and the
50:26
Speaker 6: text goes on to mention making Kelly Dave Chappelle over
50:29
Speaker 6: Joe Rogan, Tucker Carlson others that have been shut down,
50:33
Speaker 6: so to speak. And I appreciate I I just can't.
50:36
Speaker 6: I just can't read all that. I do appreciate it, though,
50:39
Speaker 6: text says, Dave, what if these subtexts of the situation is,
50:42
Speaker 6: if you don't fire this person who's criticizing our administration,
50:45
Speaker 6: we're not going to approve of your acquisition deal. Is
50:48
Speaker 6: that not censorship? Yes it is. That's what I said,
50:51
Speaker 6: one hundred percent.
50:51
Speaker 2: It is.
50:52
Speaker 6: That is If ABC next Star whoever makes that decision,
50:57
Speaker 6: I have no issue with it. If the FCC and
50:59
Speaker 6: i'll Trump was involved, I got an issue with it.
51:02
Speaker 6: So how's that, Dave? Where's your primetime emmy? Says the Texter.
51:07
Speaker 6: I'm not. I'm not on television, so I wouldn't expect
51:10
Speaker 6: I would have a prime dame. I have nothing against
51:12
Speaker 6: Jimmy Kimmel. I just again, I don't watch late night television.
51:15
Speaker 6: I was a Carson Letterman guy, so nothing against him personally,
51:18
Speaker 6: and I really, uh, I love The Man Show because
51:22
Speaker 6: it's my kind of humor. TJ. Meadows shakes his head
51:25
Speaker 6: every time I say that, you don't like the whole
51:27
Speaker 6: girls jumping on trampoline's thing. I'm indifferent. Management asked me
51:31
Speaker 6: to come in and have a conversation with you. You
51:33
Speaker 6: know what's funny is is they're working on the lights
51:35
Speaker 6: in here, and for the last forty five minutes they've
51:38
Speaker 6: been turning lights on.
51:38
Speaker 19: I put it down.
51:40
Speaker 6: I think basically what it is. I think it's a
51:42
Speaker 6: it's the it's the digital form of waterboarding that they're
51:45
Speaker 6: doing to me insip for water. I think that's what
51:48
Speaker 6: they're doing right now. Dude, says a texture. You don't
51:50
Speaker 6: understand the First Amendment principles, so please get someone who
51:53
Speaker 6: does explain. If any government agency or local official threatens
51:57
Speaker 6: action against a broadcaster for lawful speech, it's a violation
51:59
Speaker 6: the First of Men. But it's called jawboning, and it
52:01
Speaker 6: violates the First Amendment. That's exactly what I just said
52:05
Speaker 6: that it's exactly what I just said. I have an
52:08
Speaker 6: issue with that. I don't have an issue with ABC
52:12
Speaker 6: doing it. I do have an issue if the FCC
52:16
Speaker 6: leaned on ABC to do it. Does that make any sense?
52:18
Speaker 6: In my humble opinion, the Commission, in its wisdom, should
52:22
Speaker 6: speak through its orders. It should not speak through the media.
52:26
Speaker 6: It should speak exclusively through its orders. Had it done that,
52:30
Speaker 6: had the Chair done that, we wouldn't be talking about
52:32
Speaker 6: this all right. Indeed, and never in the history of
52:35
Speaker 6: things has anything good ever happened from telling people that
52:39
Speaker 6: they can't have free speech. I agree with that, but
52:41
Speaker 6: the Kimmel there's a lot of different nuances here to
52:44
Speaker 6: that situation. We'll cover more later day. I Metro News Midday.
52:47
Speaker 6: Thanks to all of our guest today, TJ. Meadows and
52:49
Speaker 6: mister Wilsons coming up a talk line. Ryan Nicholson, thank
52:51
