- 0:00Coming up today on Mini Scroll, an Aussie brand accidentally
- 0:04outs an influencer for asking for free clothing tops.
- 0:08Grocery store claps back at Katherine Ebbs and Margaret
- 0:11Quali and Jack Antonov split. Hi everyone.

- 0:32Centennial World. Welcome back to Mini Scroll,

- 0:55All right, let's just get into the stories for today.
- 0:57So the first story that I have for you guys today is runaway.
- 0:59The label has accidentally exposed the wife of an F1
- 1:04driver. So runaway.
- 1:06The label is a Sydney based brand that is definitely one of
- 1:08those like trendy cute Australian online stores.
- 1:12I think I have followed them for years, probably being based in
- 1:14Sydney. They sell anything from wedding
- 1:17guest dresses to loungewear to matching sets.
- 1:20The label also has a pretty sizeable following.
- 1:22They have over 730,000 followers on Instagram and 81,000 on
- 1:26Tiktok. So earlier this week, the
- 1:28brand's social team posted a clip to Tiktok and it was them
- 1:32being excited that they had received Adm from Alexandra
- 1:36Leclerc. So Alexandra, if you don't know,
- 1:38is married to Charles Leclerc, who is a famous F1 driver.
- 1:41And F1 is definitely out of my wheelhouse, OK?
- 1:44I do not watch Drive to Survive. I know I should.
- 1:47I know everybody's obsessed with it.
- 1:49My husband's obsessed with F1 too.
- 1:51But it's kind of outside of my wheelhouse.
- 1:53So stick with me. But Charles has been in the
- 1:55sport sense, 2019, and he currently competes for Ferrari.
- 1:58The pair reportedly met in 2023 and got engaged at the end of
- 2:022025 and they got married in February of this year.
- 2:05So Alexandra is obviously well known because of her marriage,
- 2:08but she is also a popular fashion and lifestyle creator.
- 2:11She has almost 5 million followers on Instagram.
- 2:14So of course it's great publicity when she wears
- 2:16anyone's clothing uses anyone's product.
- 2:19So that makes sense as to why runaway the label, why they were
- 2:23so excited by this DM that they got from her.
- 2:26And it's not just her following. Like as somebody who doesn't
- 2:28follow F1, I still like knew who she was, right?
- 2:30Like she's still very like culturally relevant.
- 2:33She's part of the zeitgeist right now.
- 2:35So it makes sense like she has a lot of clout, like even outside
- 2:38of having just like a big following.
- 2:40OK so in the TikTok you could see Alexandra's DM to run away
- 2:44the label. She had sent a reel of one of
- 2:46their dresses and wrote hi, I was looking at outfits for my
- 2:49upcoming summer trips and I was wondering if you would be
- 2:52interested in sending me this blue set.
- 2:53It's so cute. And then the girls that work at
- 2:56the label, they were all so excited.
- 2:57In the video, six of them were drafting a response together
- 3:01that is so relatable and they ended up responding.
- 3:04Anything you want. Please let us know if you would
- 3:06like any other pieces along with your shipping details and we can
- 3:09get it out to you ASAP. We love you so much.
- 3:11Runaway the label posted this not to like expose her for
- 3:15asking for free clothes, like they were showing the behind the
- 3:17scenes of getting Adm from like this huge personality and like
- 3:21how they were so excited about this.
- 3:22However, social media users did not see it in such a positive
- 3:27light. So many people are in disbelief
- 3:30that Alexandra would ask for a free dress, pointing to the fact
- 3:33that her husband is a multimillionaire.
- 3:36One Reddit user wrote quote They just moved into a luxurious
- 3:38newly built apartment and recently got a brand new custom
- 3:41yacht. Gifted items are a reality of
- 3:43influencer marketing, but the CM comes off in poor taste,
- 3:46especially because the set she's asking for is under $200.
- 3:49A user on X wrote. I don't really care for Wags,
- 3:52but this girl has millions of dollars sitting in her bank
- 3:55account. If she really wanted the
- 3:56clothes, she could just buy it herself instead of exploiting
- 3:59her fame to get free handouts from small businesses.
- 4:01OK, so amid the mounting backlash Runaway, the label
- 4:04actually ended up taking down the TikTok to protect Alexandra.
- 4:07According to social media users, the brand did respond to slash
- 4:11like some comments clarifying that Alexandra asked them to
- 4:14send the dress because it was sold out online.
- 4:16So obviously the video has been deleted so we can't see if they
- 4:20did or did not like these comments.
- 4:21However, we had a look at their website run away the label while
- 4:25researching and the clothing in question seems to be the agenta
- 4:28ruched waist back sea skirt seafoam and the agenta scoop
- 4:33halter bodysuit in seafoam. And when we looked, all of the
- 4:36sizes were in stock except for extra, extra small and extra
- 4:39small. So I'm assuming she's like an
- 4:41extra small and that that is possibly the reason why she DMS
- 4:45them this in saying that, there's also a lot of people
- 4:47coming forward saying like this unfortunately is just like
- 4:49common practice in the creator economy.
- 4:52Obviously, the bigger question here is like, should it be?
- 4:55But at the end of the day, is that bigger question, answering
- 4:58that bigger question, is it going to change how the industry
- 5:02operates? Probably not.
- 5:04I wouldn't pay for anything if I didn't have to and neither would
- 5:07you. I feel like people just want
- 5:08excuses to hate rich and successful influences.
- 5:11Which fair enough, but in this instance Alexandra the clerk on
- 5:13this dress. I don't get what people are so
- 5:15outraged by. We already know that in the
- 5:17industry generally models, celebrities, influencers don't
- 5:20pay for a lot of things, meals, experiences, holidays, because
- 5:24the brands profit directly from having people that have a strong
- 5:27following use their product goes to the restaurant where they're
- 5:31closed. My thing with this Alexander the
- 5:33clerk thing is a couple of things.
- 5:34One, I think clearly she liked the dress, which is nice.
- 5:37Messaging a brand is not that crazy influences do it all the
- 5:39time. I've done UGC for brands before.
- 5:41I've also worked with brands and done like our placement before.
- 5:43You either message them and request to work with them.
- 5:45They give you free stuff and make a video or they pay you.
- 5:47That is how the industry works. What I think is interesting is
- 5:50the girls that posted the video, they clearly seem very excited
- 5:53about her messaging them. Small brand, niche brand.
- 5:55She has 4.9 million followers. It's great exposure.
- 5:57Now I'm not sure what happened, why things went wrong, but I've
- 5:59seen the videos got taken down. I don't know if they gave her
- 6:01the dress as an as a celebrity influencer model, whatever.
- 6:05If you now see that brand, you're not going to work with
- 6:07them because you realize if you measure them directly,
- 6:09privately, the messages you're sending are going to be shown
- 6:11online. It's not a good look for the
- 6:12brand I'm thinking for. The second thing is for the
- 6:15brand, I think in terms of exposure, they fumble the bad
- 6:19because even if the dress was cheap, and let's just be clear,
- 6:21of course she can afford the dress.
- 6:23It's not a money question. Charles Leclerc is one of the
- 6:25richest people like in F1. So it's not about affordability,
- 6:28it's about brand partnerships and building relationships.
- 6:30You could have worn that dress and got sent it for free, then
- 6:33start working with them on a more exclusive long term basis.
- 6:35I feel like people just think about virality and what they can
- 6:37post online and a quick view and don't think about long term
- 6:40strategy. At the time of recording,
- 6:41Alexandra has not addressed the situation, but she is receiving
- 6:44a lot of hate. And this whole thing is pretty
- 6:47interesting because I think that really solidifies something that
- 6:50we have talked about on this podcast for, I mean, I, I'm
- 6:53going to say like at least over a year, which is like, people
- 6:56have such extreme influencer fatigue and the concept of PR
- 7:00and like influencers and celebrities and wealthy people
- 7:03and famous people getting free stuff is such an extremely sore
- 7:08point for everybody right now amid cost of living, mass
- 7:11layoffs across every single industry.
- 7:14And this story is particularly interesting because this was
- 7:18actually a small business, like showing a win, being like, this
- 7:22is going to be a win. And this will probably
- 7:24contribute to our small business like making money and, you know,
- 7:27like having a big moment, but the Internet still got mad about
- 7:30it. So I think that really shows
- 7:32like how far influencer fatigue has gone and kind of like this
- 7:37distaste for the influencer industry is right now amongst
- 7:41the general public. And I wouldn't say that the
- 7:43distaste extends beyond like comments and kind of like TikTok
- 7:49and Reddit backlash. Like influencers and the creator
- 7:52economy are, you know, bigger than ever, in many ways more
- 7:56influential than ever and driving more sales than, you
- 7:58know, any other type of, like, media has ever driven sales
- 8:02before. So the actual data doesn't
- 8:04always match up with like the general opinions that we see
- 8:08online, which is also another really interesting part of this.
- 8:12All right, the next story that I have for you guys today is we
- 8:14have an update on the Katherine Ebbs grocery store saga.
- 8:18So the grocery store that Catherine was in has clapped
- 8:22back. We covered the saga on Tuesday,
- 8:24but for a quick summary, lifestyle influencer Katherine
- 8:27Ebbs posted this out of touch video while grocery shopping
- 8:30over the 4th of July holiday weekend.
- 8:33So she made claims that being at this so-called small town
- 8:36grocery store was like being in a simulation.
- 8:39The grocery store in question was Tops, which happens to be a
- 8:41chain in the area. So it's not like some random
- 8:44corner store. It is apparently a chain grocery
- 8:46store. Anyway, viewers were really
- 8:48disappointed in Catherine for posting a video like this.
- 8:50And people felt like it was really her, like flaunting her
- 8:53privilege. And OK, I said this on Tuesday.
- 8:56I didn't articulate it well. But then I saw somebody else.
- 8:59I think it they it was on TikTok, maybe articulate it so
- 9:01much better than me. And I was like, that is what I
- 9:03was trying to say. I was saying that she was trying
- 9:04to have kind of like a silly, like oh, I'm so like goofy and
- 9:08silly moment. And then I saw somebody describe
- 9:10it as like peak bimbo, quote UN quote, like bimbo humor.
- 9:14And I was like, that is exactly what I was trying to say.
- 9:18It's giving kind of like 2000s Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie
- 9:23humor when they were doing the simple Life and, you know, they
- 9:25would go around like small towns and different communities and
- 9:29play this kind of like privileged bimbo character,
- 9:32right? And that is what this video came
- 9:35across as. OK, So Tops has taken to
- 9:37Instagram to respond to the viral moment.
- 9:40They posted 10 pictures of a woman holding different items
- 9:43available in the store, directly referencing Catherine's video.
- 9:46The first picture in the dump had POV.
- 9:48You're entering the grocery store simulation written over
- 9:51the top of it, and the caption was even more pointed it read
- 9:55POV. You're entering the grocery
- 9:56store simulation. We heard some people are
- 9:59surprised by what you can find at a teeny tiny grocery store in
- 10:02the mountains. The good news?
- 10:04We have over 150 stores across New York, PA, and Vermont, and
- 10:07we're proud to serve communities of every size.
- 10:09Whether you're shopping close to home or stocking up for a
- 10:12mountain getaway, we've got everything you need from fresh
- 10:14produce and quality meats to seafood, pantry staples and all
- 10:17the best deals in town. And the Internet has love to
- 10:20this. This is such a good example of a
- 10:23brand harnessing A viral moment that is relevant to them.
- 10:26As we know, the relevancy plays a big role here that is relevant
- 10:30to them. And doing it in like kind of a
- 10:32cheeky but still like tasteful way, like not getting in on the
- 10:35hate. That is something that I hate to
- 10:37see. It doesn't work.
- 10:38It cheapens the brand. And we have seen it here and
- 10:41there over the past several years with brand personalities,
- 10:45like getting in on drama. And that is like, not the vibe.
- 10:47And I don't see this as the same as that, right?
- 10:49Like, this is a tasteful way to like turn this viral moment into
- 10:53like a cheeky, cute promo for them.
- 10:56And it doesn't make fun of her, doesn't like, bully her.
- 10:57So the comments, people are loving it.
- 11:00Somebody wrote a raise for the social media team.
- 11:03We love our top simulation. Like everyone's getting in on
- 11:06it. They're loving it.
- 11:07Now. Catherine hasn't responded to
- 11:08this, but she did do another vlog where she went to a grocery
- 11:12store. So she just did a vlog.
- 11:14I think it was yesterday I saw. And she was like, guess where
- 11:16I'm going, guys? I'm going back to the grocery
- 11:18store. So I think that's probably the
- 11:20extent of the explanation that users are going to get from her.
- 11:22All right. And the last story that I have
- 11:23for you guys today is Jack Antonoff and Margaret Crawley
- 11:27have apparently split. So the week after Taylor and
- 11:29Travis's wedding, it seems her longtime collaborator has a
- 11:33relationship update of his own. Jack Antonoff and Margaret
- 11:37Crawley have separated after nearly three years of marriage,
- 11:40according to an exclusive report from PEOPLE.
- 11:43So, according to the publication, insiders describe
- 11:45their relationship as rocky. However, representatives for
- 11:48both Margaret and Jack did not respond to People's request for
- 11:51comment. OK, so for contacts.
- 11:52The pair started dating in 2021. They got engaged a year later in
- 11:562022, and they married in a private New Jersey ceremony in
- 11:59August 2023. However, rumors that they had
- 12:03split have been circulating for a little while, but they really
- 12:06intensified after Jack reportedly attended Taylor and
- 12:09Travis's wedding alone. At first, social media users
- 12:12assumed that Margaret just couldn't make it because she was
- 12:15filming her upcoming movie King Snake.
- 12:17But then users pointed out that King Snake had reportedly
- 12:20wrapped already and there already are relationship rumors
- 12:24between Margaret and one of her Co stars, Drew Starkey.
- 12:28And then Dumois said that Margaret was apparently in New
- 12:30York at the time of the wedding. Regardless.
- 12:33And then yesterday, right before the People exclusive came out,
- 12:37everybody noticed that Margaret seemed to have deleted or
- 12:40archived some pictures with Jack from her Instagram.
- 12:42However those pictures have actually since been unarchived
- 12:47and put back on the grid. OK, so I have seen so many
- 12:52people be so excited for this. It seems like the Internet loves
- 12:57Margaret Quali, but a lot of people, especially Swifty's,
- 13:00really don't like Jack Antonov. And I was like, why is that?
- 13:03Because I don't know enough of like the Swifty lore, right?
- 13:06Like, I don't know enough of like the Taylor Swift lore to
- 13:08like fully understand why Swifty's don't love him.
- 13:10So I was like looking into it and it seems like they just
- 13:13don't love that she, like consistently collaborates with
- 13:15him. They think he's kind of boring.
- 13:16And then there's also a lot of criticism around how he like
- 13:19publicly did or did not seem to support Margaret throughout the
- 13:23relationship. There's a lot of people that
- 13:24feel like he was not super supportive of her.
- 13:27He wouldn't show up to like some of her big events and things
- 13:29like that. So in general, I think people
- 13:32just feel like he was kind of like a bad partner to her.
- 13:34But Margaret Quali is such an IT girl.
- 13:37So if she is going to be in her single girl era, I'm so excited
- 13:41to see how that goes. Anyways, guys, that's it for
- 13:44mini scroll today. Thank you so much for listening.
- 13:46I love you guys. Please remember to rate, review
