- 0:40I don't know how well this is going to work.
- 0:43I bought a new Zoom 4 track recorder.
- 0:47There's some reasons for that that nobody cares about the
- 0:51issues I've been having with my computer.
- 0:53I what I need to do is buy a new computer, but I'm such a
- 0:57cheapskate that instead of buying a new computer for $1000,
- 1:02I try everything else. So this little thing and I'm.
- 1:06I'm well familiar with Zoom and not the not the computer program
- 1:11Zoom, but the manufacturer, the company Zoom that makes these
- 1:15recorders. They sent me an ad they, they
- 1:21got a new one out. It's a, it's a little miniature
- 1:234 track recorder and that's kind of what I needed.
- 1:26It's got some inputs. It's got 4 inputs into it and
- 1:31two of them are XLR. Again, you don't care.
- 1:34But they gave me a deal on it for $150.00.
- 1:37So I thought, well, I could buy a new computer for $1000, or I
- 1:39could buy this for $150.00, and if this solves my problem, then
- 1:45I'm good to go, right? Of course, that's a great
- 1:48example of the sunk cost fallacy, because now I'm having
- 1:53to use this even though I don't know if it's going to work or
- 1:57not. And more importantly, if it
- 2:01doesn't work. Now, instead of spending $1000
- 2:04for a new computer, now I've spent 1100, almost $1200 for
- 2:09that new computer and the Zoom. I guess I could return it, but
- 2:15this is, by the way, after I spent $175 on a Scarlet 2I2
- 2:21digital interface thinking that would solve the problem, which
- 2:27it did not. And why didn't it?
- 2:29Because Scarlet can't get their act together and the two one the
- 2:34two I 2, which is probably a good little digital interface,
- 2:39does not like Windows 11 to begin with, but it certainly
- 2:43doesn't like Adobe Audition, which is what I use now.
- 2:45In fairness, I do not use the newest Adobe edition, the one
- 2:50that you have to subscribe to get that program.
- 2:54And I've had this conversation with Adobe is I guess the best
- 2:58way to describe it is a steaming pile of shit.
- 3:01It's a terrible program. But I do use the program that I
- 3:06learned back when I was in the radio station 20 years ago now,
- 3:09and I still use Adobe 1.5 addition 1.5.
- 3:14I have 2020 and I've been known to use it in a pinch, but I
- 3:20prefer 1.5. It works.
- 3:23I mean, that's The thing is there's this, you know, it's
- 3:27like, it's like computer games, right?
- 3:30Ben always laughs at me because the computer games that I play
- 3:33are 20 years old. There's a computer game that I
- 3:36love to play that I bought back in 1993 and I still play it.
- 3:43I mean, it's, it's a Windows game, so it's still functions in
- 3:48Windows and they've done updates and things like that.
- 3:49But, but yeah, I, I don't understand this obsession
- 3:54particularly that Adobe has with adding more bells and whistles
- 3:58and this and that and everything else.
- 4:00And it just bogs the, the thing down to the point where it
- 4:03doesn't work. So anyway, I bought a Scarlet
- 4:052I2 thinking that would solve the problem.
- 4:08So now I'm sunk cost on that. And the only reason I didn't
- 4:14return it, and this is what, this is where I'm stupid, OK?
- 4:18This is where the sunk cost policy gets into things.
- 4:22I didn't return it because I thought, well, if I buy a new
- 4:26computer then maybe it will work with that.
- 4:32That's the way my mind works. I also have a a Macintosh
- 4:35laptop, a MacBook, and it may work with that.
- 4:39I just haven't had to try that. I I love my MacBook, but it's a
- 4:44there's a learning curve with it that I'm just not there with
- 4:47yet. So I've had it for almost a year
- 4:51and I'm still basically just using it like an iPad.
- 4:55I I have all the programs I need to to actually do things and
- 5:01I've started working with like logic Pro and that sort of
- 5:03thing. But the learning curve is much
- 5:06steeper than it was when I was a lot younger.
- 5:09And again, I know addition 1.5 I don't know these new things.
- 5:14So anyway, I am on my way to Sequim WA spelled Sequim, but
- 5:22it's pronounced squim. That's one of the funny things
- 5:25about Washington State is trying to pronounce all the names
- 5:28Swinomish and Suquamish and Puyallup Poulsbo and things like
- 5:36that. Anyway, I'm on my way to Squim.
- 5:39I am actually, if you heard that little rumble there.
- 5:42I am actually in the middle of the Hood Canal Bridge as I cross
- 5:45from the east side to the West side, over to the Jeffrey, to
- 5:49the Olympic Peninsula, to Jefferson County.
- 5:52We have a parade this morning out in Squam.
- 5:54It's the irrigation days parade, which we discovered a few years
- 5:59ago. We was the the base, the the sub
- 6:03vets base that was on the Olympic Peninsula shut down.
- 6:06So when I was the base commander, I was looking for
- 6:08things to get us involved out here on the Olympic Peninsula,
- 6:12which is about an hour from where I live.
- 6:15And we found this parade and and it's a great little parade.
- 6:20It's one of the best attended parades in the area.
- 6:23And so we we've started going to that and they love us there.
- 6:26And there you go. So I'm now basically halfway
- 6:30across the bridge and the water is just calm as I'll get out
- 6:34now. I understand a boat went through
- 6:36here earlier today, but I didn't see it.
- 6:38So I won't know. I'll talk to somebody later see
- 6:41if they know who it was. The Olympic mountains in the
- 6:43distance are kind of cloud shrouded.
- 6:45They're there, but you can there's clouds kind of drifting
- 6:48in front of them. It's it's a hazy day, but it's a
- 6:51great day for a parade. So this is all stream of thought
- 6:56as I reach the other side in Jefferson County.
- 6:58If you're looking at a map, just find the Hood Canal Bridge and I
- 7:01am headed up past the shine tide lands.
- 7:05This is one of my favorite places to come when I'm
- 7:07stargazing. This this area out here at night
- 7:11is particularly dark. The only problem is you don't
- 7:15have much of A view to the West because the the tree line is too
- 7:19close to the beach. But but it's a very nice area.
- 7:22It's very dark and very, very, very pleasant out here.
- 7:29And they've done a lot of work on this road since I moved back
- 7:31here. This used to be basically a 2
- 7:34lane highway with a lot of traffic issues.
- 7:38Now they put in what Bill would call circles of death, some
- 7:41passing lanes, some things like that.
- 7:44But it it'll be an interesting little drive.
- 7:46It's one of my favorite little drives.
- 7:48This and Hwy. 3 to the South Down towards Shelton.
- 7:51I am behind the float. I don't know how far behind I
- 7:55am. We both left at the same time,
- 7:57but I stopped to get a cup of coffee.
- 7:59So I'm trying to catch up to them as we head up the hill
- 8:04here. Oh, I'm not going to make it.
- 8:06There's a passing lane, but I don't think I'm going to make it
- 8:08because this guy's speeding up on me now.
- 8:11I'm going to go by him doing 75 in A50 zone.
- 8:14That's probably not smart. Anyway, I just thought I'd try
- 8:19this thing and give you a little stream of consciousness as I'm
- 8:23driving to Squim for the Irrigation Day parade.
- 8:29Folks. I love it up here.
- 8:30This place is so beautiful. I just hate the freaking morons
- 8:34that run it. We paid 559 for gas yesterday,
- 8:39559 now again, if that's what everybody across the country was
- 8:45paying, you'd kind of go, well, you know, it is what it is, but
- 8:49it's not a $1.70 of that is just Washington state pretending that
- 8:56we care about climate change. That's all it is.
- 9:00It's this climate change, this Climate Commitment Act added all
- 9:03these fees and taxes and everything else onto the gallon
- 9:06of gas. It totals $1.70, meaning that we
- 9:10paid 559. Take $1.70 away from that.
- 9:13What does that equal, right? It's we're under 4 is what we
- 9:19should be paying given everything else that's
- 9:22happening. That's what we should be paying.
- 9:24But instead we're paying 559 a gallon because of this idiocy.
- 9:29And none of that, it's, it'd be one thing if you thought, well,
- 9:33hey, the money's going to go to something useful, but it's not.
- 9:40It's just employment for climate activists.
- 9:45That's all it is. We're not doing anything.
- 9:48Washington State is not even if there is an actual global
- 9:51warming problem. And you know, I don't believe
- 9:54that there is, but even if there were, Washington state's not
- 9:57going to solve it this way. It's, it's ludicrous.
- 10:00But there you go. Saw an article this morning
- 10:04about and we're going to talk about this on what the Frock
- 10:06tomorrow. Self driving cars are going to
- 10:11be the thing now in, in in the rest of our lifetimes, we're
- 10:15going to see completely self driving cars.
- 10:19And I'm just thinking to myself, you know, this is something my
- 10:21son is in favor of. He he thinks this is going to be
- 10:24great. And I just I find driving so
- 10:28relaxing and I find drives like this so cathartic to my soul.
- 10:35I thought sounds ridiculous, but it's true.
- 10:39I find this kind of thing just pleasant.
- 10:42And here I am driving this way, just enjoying it, just enjoying
- 10:49the day. I, I wish I could, I almost wish
- 10:52this was on video because you could see what I'm seeing and,
- 10:56and just the, the Scotch broom on the side of the road, the
- 11:01yellow Scotch broom, the, the pine trees, the Aspen trees, the
- 11:05oak trees. And of course, traffic doing 10
- 11:09miles an hour under the speed limit, which kind of annoys me,
- 11:12but it's just something that I so enjoy.
- 11:16And I, and I read this thing about autonomous cars and how
- 11:20they're going to take over everything and within the next,
- 11:24I don't know, 10 to 15 years, they'll just take over every
- 11:29car. Nobody will drive the people who
- 11:31drive the the the point of the article was that driving a car
- 11:36will become like horseback riding.
- 11:38Now, Once Upon a time, everybody owned a horse, everybody rode a
- 11:42horse, everybody went there. And now the only people who own
- 11:45and ride horses are people that have large amounts of disposable
- 11:49income. And the implication was that
- 11:54driving will become similar. It will become a hobby.
- 11:59And I just can't even imagine that.
- 12:01I can't even imagine a world like that.
- 12:03But I guess progress is what it is, You know, that's probably
- 12:10going to happen. Probably going to be that way
- 12:14anyway. I'm 30 miles from Squim, passing
- 12:17the junction of 20, headed up to Port Townsend, which is where
- 12:22I'll be going on Tuesday afternoon.
- 12:24Cammy and I are going to take another short little trip over,
- 12:27back over to Anacortes. We really like Anacortes.
- 12:30So we're going to go back over there on Tuesday, Wednesday,
- 12:33come back on Thursday, and so I'll get to come this way again
- 12:39pretty soon. I got a good friend that lives
- 12:40out here too, so we'll see how that goes.
- 12:43Anyway, just just wanted to test this thing out, see how it
- 12:47works. We'll give it a listen when I
- 12:49get home, which probably won't be till this evening.
- 12:51If it's good enough, maybe I'll post it.
- 12:53If it's not, well then it'll go to the bit bend like so much
- 12:57other stuff to us. You would not believe how many
- 13:00times I hit record and you never hear it because just isn't good.
- 13:05But I wanted to try this and do a little stream of consciousness
- 13:09as I drove on US one O 1. Well, actually it's W one O 4
- 13:14right now, but eventually it'll be US one O 1 headed out to the
- 13:17Olympic Peninsula. Squim Irrigation Days parade.
- 13:21Take care, everybody.
