- Lucas: Hej, and welcome back to Learn Swedish with Fexingo. Luna: Hej! I'm ready for another fun Swedish lesson. Lucas: Today we're going to talk about colors. Colors are everywhere, and they're really useful when you want to describe things. Luna: Oh, I love colors! What are we learning first? Lucas: Let's start with the basics. The word for red in Swedish is 'röd'. Say it with me: röd. Luna: Röd. Lucas: Perfect. Now, blue is 'blå'. Blå. Luna: Blå. That sounds like 'blow' but with a different vowel. Lucas: Exactly. Yellow is 'gul'. Gul. Luna: Gul. That's fun to say. Lucas: Green is 'grön'. Grön. Luna: Grön. Lucas: And black is 'svart'. Svart. Luna: Svart. That one's a bit tricky. Lucas: You'll get it with practice. So now let's put them in sentences. In Swedish, colors usually come after the noun, like 'en röd bil' or 'ett blått hus'. Luna: Wait, why is it 'blått' and not 'blå'? Lucas: Good question. In Swedish, adjectives change form depending on the gender of the noun. 'Bil' is an 'en' word, so we say 'en röd bil'. But 'hus' is an 'ett' word, so we say 'ett blått hus'. We'll cover that more later, but for now, just remember that colors can have different forms. Luna: Okay, that makes sense. So 'en röd bil' means a red car, and 'ett blått hus' means a blue house. Lucas: Exactly. Now let's practice with the other colors. 'En gul sol' – a yellow sun. Luna: En gul sol. Lucas: 'Ett grönt äpple' – a green apple. Luna: Ett grönt äpple. Oh, I like that. Lucas: And 'en svart katt' – a black cat. Luna: En svart katt. That's a classic. Lucas: Now, let's try a little dialogue. Imagine you see a red car. You could say 'Titta, en röd bil!' Luna: Titta, en röd bil! Lucas: Or if you see a blue house: 'Titta, ett blått hus!' Luna: Titta, ett blått hus! Lucas: Great. Now, here's a fun one. If you see a yellow sun, you say 'Titta, en gul sol!' Luna: Titta, en gul sol! That's easy. Lucas: And if you see a green apple: 'Titta, ett grönt äpple!' Luna: Titta, ett grönt äpple! I'm getting the hang of this. Lucas: And finally, a black cat: 'Titta, en svart katt!' Luna: Titta, en svart katt! That's my favorite. Lucas: You're doing really well. Now, let's try a small scene. You're walking in the park with a friend, and you see different things. Your friend says: 'Titta, en gul blomma!' That means look, a yellow flower. Luna: Titta, en gul blomma! Oh, that's pretty. Lucas: Then you see a green bench. You say: 'Titta, en grön bänk!' Luna: Titta, en grön bänk! Lucas: And your friend points to a red bird and says: 'Titta, en röd fågel!' Luna: Titta, en röd fågel! Wow, that's a lot of colors. Lucas: Exactly. And you can use this pattern with any object. Just remember the color and the noun. Luna: So if I see a blue sky, I can say: 'Titta, en blå himmel!' Lucas: Perfect! But careful: 'himmel' is an 'en' word, so 'en blå himmel' is correct. Luna: Got it. And a black dog would be 'en svart hund'? Lucas: Exactly right. Luna: This is really useful. I feel like I can describe things now. Lucas: That's the goal. And speaking of useful, if you're enjoying learning Swedish with us, you might want to support the show. I'll say the color in English, and you say it in Swedish. Ready? Luna: Ready! Lucas: Red. Luna: Röd. Lucas: Blue. Luna: Blå. Lucas: Yellow. Luna: Gul. Lucas: Green. Luna: Grön. Lucas: Black. Luna: Svart. Lucas: Excellent. Now let's do a sentence round. I'll say the object, and you make a sentence with a color. First: car. Luna: En röd bil. Lucas: House. Luna: Ett blått hus. Lucas: Sun. Luna: En gul sol. Lucas: Apple. Luna: Ett grönt äpple. Lucas: Cat. Luna: En svart katt. Lucas: Perfect. You're a natural. Luna: Thanks! I think I'll practice by describing everything I see today. Lucas: That's a great idea. So don't forget: we covered röd, blå, gul, grön, and svart. Practice making sentences with them, and we'll see you next time.
