- 0:00Speaker 1: Jeff Boscher pinch hitting today for Adam Kaplan. We got
- 0:03Speaker 1: a lot of stuff to get into. We still have
- 0:05Speaker 1: a ton of mailbag questions that we will do throughout
- 0:08Speaker 1: the summer. Here we might fit some of those in
- 0:11Speaker 1: as well as Mosher jumps back in on the Sports
- 0:14Speaker 1: Bass Live on ninety seven to three ESPN. Of course,
- 0:18Speaker 1: the Eagles have announced that they will be a training
- 0:21Speaker 1: camp on July the twenty eighth, when their rookies and
- 0:24Speaker 1: their veterans report, So we have just about over a
- 0:27Speaker 1: month ago for that. But obviously, Jeff, we talked a
- 0:30Speaker 1: lot yesterday about the news about Max Crosby, and I
- 0:33Speaker 1: don't know where that thing's gonna go, but I want
- 0:35Speaker 1: to get into more of the Jalen Carter aspect here.
- 0:38Speaker 1: I'm gonna get your take. We did talk a little
- 0:41Speaker 1: bit about him yesterday. But the more that I thought
- 0:43Speaker 1: about this because we have a poll question up today
- 0:46Speaker 1: and it asked the question if you would include Jalen
- 0:49Speaker 1: Carter in a trade for Max Crosby, seventy three percent
- 0:53Speaker 1: of our listeners right now are saying no, they would not.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Wow.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Is that surprising to you? You that people like are saying no?
- 1:02Speaker 1: Do not give up on Jalen Carter because I would
- 1:04Speaker 1: ask the question, do the Eagles agree with them?
- 1:08Speaker 2: That's a great question.
- 1:09Speaker 3: I think I actually tip my cap to the fans
- 1:12Speaker 3: because I think they're thinking at it with a business
- 1:17Speaker 3: sense and not as much of an emotional sense. I
- 1:19Speaker 3: think most people realize that Max Crosby is an elite
- 1:22Speaker 3: edge rusher, but also they're taking into account his age,
- 1:27Speaker 3: how many great years he has left his the shape
- 1:30Speaker 3: of his knees right compared to JILLN. Carter, and how
- 1:33Speaker 3: many years left he has, and also the widespread impact
- 1:37Speaker 3: that a great defensive tackle has in commanding double teams
- 1:40Speaker 3: and making things wide open for edge rushers.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Like Max Crosby.
- 1:45Speaker 3: So I think that's a good, good sense. I mean,
- 1:47Speaker 3: that's a good I don't know if I agree or disagree.
- 1:49Speaker 3: I haven't really thought about it like that, but I
- 1:51Speaker 3: would say I think that that is a good way
- 1:53Speaker 3: of looking at it and thinking of it.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I was gonna say so. I mean, when
- 1:59Speaker 1: that deal gets done with Simmons yesterday, as we discussed,
- 2:02Speaker 1: I mean, do you think the Eagles are like, we've
- 2:04Speaker 1: got to do something here because we do not want
- 2:06Speaker 1: to give him that money. So do you have to
- 2:09Speaker 1: try to entrepreneur a deal like this.
- 2:11Speaker 3: You know, I don't know what the Eagles do or
- 2:13Speaker 3: don't want to give him to be able to I mean,
- 2:15Speaker 3: they're not dumb. They know he's a top ten pick
- 2:19Speaker 3: of theirs and that if he was a free agent tomorrow,
- 2:21Speaker 3: there would be teams lining up to sign him for
- 2:24Speaker 3: a lot of money. So they know that when they
- 2:26Speaker 3: choose a player like that and they had that player
- 2:28Speaker 3: has success, they expect to want to be able to
- 2:30Speaker 3: pay that player.
- 2:32Speaker 2: I think I said that's yesterday. It's not like they
- 2:33Speaker 2: don't want him. They want him to be around.
- 2:36Speaker 3: He's a dominant player when he's healthy and invested and
- 2:39Speaker 3: they have him his head on right, and you know,
- 2:42Speaker 3: I know he's worked this offseason to try to get
- 2:44Speaker 3: those shoulders in better shape.
- 2:46Speaker 2: He's put that out there.
- 2:47Speaker 3: So we'll see the reasons why you wouldn't, as we
- 2:51Speaker 3: talked about, were not necessarily believing those shoulders are made
- 2:55Speaker 3: for the long haul, or having to pay other guys
- 2:58Speaker 3: on defense at other positions, and that is a position
- 3:01Speaker 3: of depth and strength, having multiple first round picks in
- 3:05Speaker 3: the next two years to continue to adjust it, having Jordan,
- 3:07Speaker 3: Davis and Morow with Jombo the ability then to turn
- 3:10Speaker 3: around and pay a jobo if you didn't have Carter.
- 3:13Speaker 3: So they're weighing both sides of this. But at the
- 3:15Speaker 3: end of the day, if there's a deal that makes
- 3:18Speaker 3: sense for them, I'm Jill and Carter, that's the deal
- 3:20Speaker 3: that they're going to want to make.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Right, So that's kind of where I'm getting at, Like,
- 3:24Speaker 1: he would not be an untouchable at this moment. If
- 3:26Speaker 1: they say, you know, we're not really sure if we
- 3:28Speaker 1: want to sign him long term, like Max, Crosby would
- 3:31Speaker 1: have to be a guy if he's available that you
- 3:33Speaker 1: have to consider, then, right, I.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Would I would imagine they would consider that.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Sure, Sure, do you legitimately think Crosby is an option
- 3:43Speaker 1: for them?
- 3:45Speaker 3: I I think I said yesterday. My understanding is if
- 3:49Speaker 3: the Raiders are going to trade Crosby, even at this point,
- 3:51Speaker 3: it's still going to have to be for a package
- 3:54Speaker 3: similar to what the Ravens gave, we're going to give up,
- 3:57Speaker 3: which is two first round picks or two first rounds
- 4:00Speaker 3: value type players.
- 4:02Speaker 2: So or picks.
- 4:04Speaker 3: I think that the Raiders would rather have the picks,
- 4:05Speaker 3: But obviously, if you're gonna trade a young player, uh,
- 4:08Speaker 3: who's who's impactful?
- 4:10Speaker 2: They probably do it now.
- 4:11Speaker 3: I don't know how the Rave the Raiders themselves feel
- 4:15Speaker 3: about Jalen Carter, or if they would have their own
- 4:18Speaker 3: questions about his ability to hold up and his shoulders
- 4:22Speaker 3: to make them not want that over a first round pick,
- 4:26Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying.
- 4:27Speaker 1: So I'm glad you went down that road, because what
- 4:30Speaker 1: if the Raiders said we would take jalx Hunt. Okay,
- 4:36Speaker 1: would the Eagles be interested in that?
- 4:39Speaker 2: I think so?
- 4:40Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 4:40Speaker 3: I mean yeah, I don't think that there's too many
- 4:42Speaker 3: players the Eagles have outside of maybe the starting quarterback
- 4:46Speaker 3: and the right tackle. I mean who they're not going
- 4:49Speaker 3: to be willing to trade to get Max Crosby. I mean,
- 4:53Speaker 3: he's that good and he instantaneously makes you we.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Talked about it yesterday.
- 4:57Speaker 3: As much of a Super Bowl contender as you are now,
- 4:59Speaker 3: you're even better if you have him.
- 5:02Speaker 1: So I'll you know, because I was not for just
- 5:06Speaker 1: trading aj Brown for future first round pick and not
- 5:09Speaker 1: helping out the roster. Yeah yeah, what about that situation here?
- 5:14Speaker 1: If you said I'm not getting I'm not giving a
- 5:18Speaker 1: player up, I'll take the player and give you two
- 5:21Speaker 1: first round picks, essentially matching the deal that Baltimore did.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Could they afford that?
- 5:27Speaker 2: Could the Eagles afford that?
- 5:28Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, absolutely monetarily, you know, because you've got you've
- 5:33Speaker 1: got Grenard who you've locked up, You've got Davis who
- 5:35Speaker 1: you've locked up. You know, you still have to pay Quinon, Mitchell,
- 5:38Speaker 1: Cooper de Gene. And I would say this, Jeff, and
- 5:40Speaker 1: you can agree or disagree with me on this one.
- 5:42Speaker 1: They're not sure if they want to be tied long
- 5:45Speaker 1: term to Carter. They're one thousand percent sure they want
- 5:48Speaker 1: to be tied to Cooper and Quinyon correct, Oh.
- 5:51Speaker 3: You would absolutely as he And again it comes down
- 5:54Speaker 3: to the conversation, yes, Mitchell, yes, the Gene.
- 5:59Speaker 2: But what if the.
- 6:01Speaker 3: Thinks he's a thirty million dollar corner like Mitchell is
- 6:04Speaker 3: going to be. Then you got an issue of well, man,
- 6:06Speaker 3: am I gonna have two guys in one defensive back
- 6:09Speaker 3: field making thirty plus million dollars?
- 6:11Speaker 2: That's that's difficult. That's gonna be a challenge for them,
- 6:14Speaker 2: even the highest paid safeties in this league.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Let's say they try to pigeonhole Cooper and it just
- 6:20Speaker 3: being a safety, which you're not gonna do. But for
- 6:21Speaker 3: the argument's sake, that's twenty five million a year if
- 6:24Speaker 3: he's really good at it. So it's gonna be hard
- 6:27Speaker 3: to avoid somehow paying a collective fifty five to sixty
- 6:29Speaker 3: five million dollars to keep both those guys. So I
- 6:32Speaker 3: go back to the conversation I keep having with you.
- 6:35Speaker 3: At some point, a really good, talented player who the
- 6:39Speaker 3: fans love, the Eagles are gonna have to make a
- 6:42Speaker 3: really difficult decision.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Off is it Jalen Carter? Is it Cooper to Jen?
- 6:45Speaker 2: Is it Zach Bond?
- 6:46Speaker 3: In the year?
- 6:47Speaker 2: Is it Jelex Hunt? Is it Know's? I don't know.
- 6:51Speaker 3: And I think that it almost is like a race
- 6:53Speaker 3: to sign your extension, right.
- 6:55Speaker 2: You might want to.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Sign it now at the price the Eagles are offering,
- 6:58Speaker 3: even if it's a little lower, and you think, because
- 7:00Speaker 3: the money ain't gonna be there for everybody in a
- 7:03Speaker 3: year or two. And then if you get traded, you
- 7:06Speaker 3: don't exactly get to determine where you get traded unless
- 7:09Speaker 3: you j Brown.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Let me fit in a handful of some of the
- 7:13Speaker 1: questions that we've got this week for Jeff. This one
- 7:16Speaker 1: is from Steven Mays landing, and he said. Zach Bond
- 7:19Speaker 1: the other day indicated that being in the third year
- 7:23Speaker 1: of this defense with Vic Fangio, does do you, Jeff,
- 7:27Speaker 1: think that that will make this defense that much better
- 7:30Speaker 1: now that a lot of these guys are in it
- 7:32Speaker 1: for the third year.
- 7:33Speaker 2: I do.
- 7:34Speaker 3: Although it's funny because I've already been thinking about this
- 7:36Speaker 3: because Zach Bawn actually said it during one of the
- 7:38Speaker 3: OTA press conferences. He said that Vick is so comfortable
- 7:41Speaker 3: at us, he's already thinking about, you know, what he
- 7:44Speaker 3: can do now because of that, and I kept thinking, well,
- 7:47Speaker 3: Vic's not like Brian Flores. He doesn't wake up out
- 7:49Speaker 3: of bed, you know, thinking of how many different ways
- 7:52Speaker 3: he can blitz somebody from here to Sunday, from different angles.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Vic just does what he does.
- 7:56Speaker 3: He rushes for he drops in his zone, the cunning
- 7:59Speaker 3: things he does, or what he does with safeties pre
- 8:02Speaker 3: and post snap and then sim pressure. So I was
- 8:05Speaker 3: wondering what exactly does he have in mind? But he
- 8:08Speaker 3: does find different things. Last year he had Cooper, he
- 8:11Speaker 3: had Quinna Mitchell shadowing top wide receivers. Right, we saw
- 8:16Speaker 3: that for the first time, so we have seen it.
- 8:19Speaker 3: Maybe it's more stunting. Maybe it's more maybe it's blitzing
- 8:24Speaker 3: from different like, you know, blitzing from your safety spot,
- 8:26Speaker 3: which he doesn't normally do.
- 8:27Speaker 2: I don't know what it.
- 8:28Speaker 3: Is, but I do know that because Vic has extreme
- 8:31Speaker 3: comfort with this personnel, he can pretty much do what
- 8:33Speaker 3: he wants. And that's gonna be fun to see coming
- 8:36Speaker 3: this season. What kind of new wrinkles he's got in mind?
- 8:39Speaker 1: All right? This one is from is another Steve. This
- 8:43Speaker 1: Steve though, is from Manahawk, and he asked about Andrew mccooba. Jeff,
- 8:46Speaker 1: what kind of impact do you think mccooba will have
- 8:49Speaker 1: this season?
- 8:51Speaker 2: Well, I think mccouba already.
- 8:53Speaker 3: And if you picture mccuba next to Cooper to Gene,
- 8:56Speaker 3: you don't really have it in those when when they're
- 8:58Speaker 3: in base like that, you don't really have a drop
- 9:00Speaker 3: off from losing Reid blanket Ship. In fact, you have
- 9:03Speaker 3: an upgrade. You have Cooper to Gene, who's a way
- 9:06Speaker 3: better athlete than Blanketship. And then you have mccouba, who
- 9:09Speaker 3: we've seen already as a rookie has a really good
- 9:14Speaker 3: playmaking sense about his game, and we saw it in
- 9:17Speaker 3: the preseason with the interception against the Browns right that
- 9:20Speaker 3: he took back for six.
- 9:20Speaker 2: He had a fumble recovery.
- 9:22Speaker 3: As he started to get his feet wet in the
- 9:25Speaker 3: regular season, he was starting to make plays after the
- 9:27Speaker 3: first you know, Rocky three or four weeks, but then
- 9:29Speaker 3: you know he got hurt. But when healthy, with a
- 9:33Speaker 3: second year in VIC system, with already a pension for
- 9:36Speaker 3: being a playmaker, and then put next to a guy
- 9:39Speaker 3: like the jan I think he got a really nice
- 9:41Speaker 3: athletic safety tannem there. And then when they go into
- 9:45Speaker 3: nickel and someone moves next to mccouba, whether it's Michael
- 9:49Speaker 3: Carter the second or Marcus Apps, I think you're still
- 9:51Speaker 3: pretty good there.
- 9:54Speaker 1: All right, Jeff, we got a couple more that will
- 9:56Speaker 1: fit in. I know you're short on time today, so
- 9:58Speaker 1: let's get this one. This is an one you guys are
- 10:01Speaker 1: doing your NFC stuff, Jeff, which team do you like
- 10:03Speaker 1: better right now? Washington or New York?
- 10:08Speaker 2: Oh Man, that's a tough one. I think.
- 10:14Speaker 3: Washington has the higher ceiling because of the quarterback, meaning
- 10:19Speaker 3: like we've already seen them win twelve games with an
- 10:21Speaker 3: okay roster because of Jay and Daniels. Now they're missing
- 10:25Speaker 3: playmakers but so is New York. I mean, Neighbors may
- 10:27Speaker 3: not even start the season. If he does, it's still Neighbors.
- 10:30Speaker 3: And like what Isaiah likely, we're not talking about a
- 10:32Speaker 3: team that's really deep at wide receiver for either of them.
- 10:36Speaker 3: Giants may have a little bit of a running game,
- 10:38Speaker 3: but I think Washington's offensive line is better. I thought
- 10:42Speaker 3: they made some interesting defensive additions some guys last year
- 10:46Speaker 3: they did drafted who I expect to like Trey Amos,
- 10:50Speaker 3: the corner who I think in year two will be better.
- 10:52Speaker 3: So I think Washington has the higher ceiling, but I
- 10:56Speaker 3: also think they may have a little bit more boom
- 10:58Speaker 3: bust potential, whereas the Giants I think could be a
- 11:01Speaker 3: steadier ship. They've They've they've got adults in the room, coaches,
- 11:05Speaker 3: they have a great front four that really needs to
- 11:08Speaker 3: finally be unlocked and work for them. They've steadily improved
- 11:12Speaker 3: on defense, and you know, obviously with Jackson Dart and
- 11:17Speaker 3: with Cam Scataboo and Tracy they want to run the
- 11:19Speaker 3: ball a.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Little bit there.
- 11:21Speaker 3: They're they're going to try to play mistake free football,
- 11:24Speaker 3: which is what John Harbaugh really preaches. So I could
- 11:27Speaker 3: see the Giants steadying their way to like an eight
- 11:30Speaker 3: and eight record or something, whereas Commanders they can have
- 11:33Speaker 3: a lot of injuries, things can go haywire. But I
- 11:36Speaker 3: do think the Commanders have the higher upside.
- 11:38Speaker 1: All Right, This one came in yesterday during our conversation,
- 11:41Speaker 1: so I'll ask you this one today, Jeff. After your
- 11:44Speaker 1: guys conversation yesterday, Mike asked Jeff who he likes better,
- 11:48Speaker 1: Jeffrey Simmons or Jalen Carter.
- 11:50Speaker 2: I mean, Jeffery Simmons is a better player. What is
- 11:54Speaker 2: the argument against that?
- 11:57Speaker 1: Hey, I just asked the questions here.
- 11:59Speaker 3: I said yesterday, when Jalen Carter plays to his most
- 12:05Speaker 3: dominant self, he's the best defensive tackle in football. He's
- 12:08Speaker 3: as good as Jeffrey Simmons or anybody, because we've just
- 12:11Speaker 3: seen it. He's just so violently good at the position.
- 12:14Speaker 3: But we have not seen that guy on a snap
- 12:18Speaker 3: to snap the basis like you've seen out of a
- 12:20Speaker 3: Jeffrey Simmons right to say that he's as good as
- 12:23Speaker 3: Jeffrey Simmons. Part of being really good in the NFL
- 12:26Speaker 3: isn't just being a flash player. It's being good down
- 12:28Speaker 3: to down, snap to snap. Every get game for seventeen
- 12:32Speaker 3: weeks and that we still need to see more often
- 12:35Speaker 3: from Jalen Carter.
- 12:36Speaker 1: All right, most pinchhitting today for Adam and of course
- 12:40Speaker 1: the sports past live on ninety seven three ESPN with
- 12:42Speaker 1: our Football at four brought to you by a Fanatics
- 12:45Speaker 1: Sports book, where you can check out all the big games,
- 12:48Speaker 1: including the World Club, including the Phillies, which are all
- 12:51Speaker 1: happening over at Fanatics Sports Book. All right, most good
- 12:55Speaker 1: pinchhit man, he had a couple. You had about a
- 12:57Speaker 1: three sixty four average on those at bats today.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Sounds a lot better than any Phillies outfielder.
- 13:05Speaker 1: See you man, all right. Jeff Moscher on today's Football
- 13:07Speaker 1: at Four, answering some of your mailbag questions. And you
- 13:10Speaker 1: know you guys keep sending the mailbag questions and we'll
- 13:13Speaker 1: keep popping them over to Jeff on the summer version
- 13:17Speaker 1: of Football at Four
