- 0:12Speaker 1: Hello and welcome back to another episode of Mic Drop
- 0:16Speaker 1: Comedy's podcast. We are live at Big Pine Comedy Festival.
- 0:20Speaker 1: We are day two and I'm very excited to Yeah,
- 0:22Speaker 1: he's got the pass. I'm sitting here with my pal,
- 0:24Speaker 1: John Boyd.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Hello, everybody. I'm excited to be here and I'm excited
- 0:27Speaker 2: about this interview.
- 0:28Speaker 1: I'm excited to have you here. You're truly one of
- 0:30Speaker 1: my favorite. Now I call you a local comic. How
- 0:34Speaker 1: long have you been out in Phoenix now?
- 0:36Speaker 2: I've been in Phoenix probably about four years now.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 0:39Speaker 2: And I've been a comedian for almost three. So my
- 0:42Speaker 2: anniversary is April 22nd. So in a few weeks.
- 0:45Speaker 1: I feel like I met you at a Big Pine.
- 0:47Speaker 2: I think we did.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Yeah, the first one. But you weren't living out here yet.
- 0:50Speaker 1: You were still in.
- 0:51Speaker 2: You have a good memory. Florida, yeah.
- 0:52Speaker 1: I remember meeting you and you were like, I think
- 0:55Speaker 1: that you were thinking about moving out here. Yes. And
- 0:58Speaker 1: I was like, I hope you do.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Oh my... And she's the reason I'm here.
- 1:01Speaker 1: We chatted on the patio out in the garden.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Holy crap.
- 1:05Speaker 1: And I was so excited. I was like, he seems
- 1:06Speaker 1: super nice. Yeah. I hope you do move out here.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Thank you. And I made the move. And I'm excited
- 1:11Speaker 2: to be here.
- 1:12Speaker 1: And... You are a fabulous addition to the Phoenix scene.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Truly. I'm not just saying that because we're sitting out
- 1:19Speaker 1: front here at Mic Drop in Chandler. But you are.
- 1:24Speaker 1: You host a really fun show, and you're actually hosting
- 1:27Speaker 1: it in like an hour and a half here.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm excited about it. It's called Be Funny, and
- 1:32Speaker 2: it's a comedy spelling bee. Yes. Yeah, super exciting. So
- 1:35Speaker 2: what happens is comics spell a word. If they misspell
- 1:37Speaker 2: the word, they need to put it in their set.
- 1:39Speaker 2: It's been really cool. We've been here. We've been at
- 1:41Speaker 2: Mic Drop for almost a year. We've been running a
- 1:44Speaker 2: show for almost a year and a half. So we
- 1:46Speaker 2: got to Mic Drop pretty fast, which is exciting.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:49Speaker 2: And our first viral clip just hit. We just got
- 1:51Speaker 2: almost 10 million views across all socials.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Yeah. That's awesome.
- 1:55Speaker 2: I'm really excited.
- 1:56Speaker 1: I noticed that I won one of the Spelling Bees.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Yes, you did.
- 2:00Speaker 1: And I don't know if you've ever shared my clip.
- 2:03Speaker 1: This is actually a confrontation.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Oh, I've been set up. I've been bamboozled.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm like, meet me. It's on site, John Boyd.
- 2:11Speaker 2: All the footage from all the Spelling Bees will be
- 2:13Speaker 2: on YouTube very, very shortly. Okay. I think the hard
- 2:17Speaker 2: part for me and what's been great about the scene
- 2:19Speaker 2: is meeting that level of quality and excellence.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:23Speaker 2: And that's what we always strive for. So if it's, like,
- 2:25Speaker 2: not perfect, I won't put it out.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Are you saying that my set was not perfect? No, no, no.
- 2:29Speaker 2: I think it was perfect. I think the edit that
- 2:31Speaker 2: we need to make isn't perfect yet. So it will
- 2:33Speaker 2: be there, and I promise you it will be on
- 2:34Speaker 2: YouTube soon. YouTube soon.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Yeah. I'm very proud of my little spelling bee award.
- 2:39Speaker 1: I do have it up on my shelf with some other, like,
- 2:41Speaker 1: comedy things. You know, like some comedy albums and some stuff.
- 2:44Speaker 1: And then I think you told me you got it
- 2:46Speaker 1: from like Timu or something. But I was very proud
- 2:49Speaker 1: of it. I was like, look at me.
- 2:51Speaker 2: You were really good at the spell. What's funny is
- 2:53Speaker 2: most comics stink at it. But you were really good
- 2:55Speaker 2: and funny. So thank you for doing it.
- 2:57Speaker 1: It's a very fun show. I feel like everybody has
- 3:00Speaker 1: a good time with it. And I can tell you
- 3:02Speaker 1: guys have a lot of fun with it.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a blast.
- 3:04Speaker 1: You have your co-host?
- 3:05Speaker 2: Yeah, my co-host, Sean Smith.
- 3:06Speaker 1: He also, you can tell he's having a good time.
- 3:08Speaker 2: He's having a blast. Yeah.
- 3:10Speaker 1: So during the show, comics, are you doing it tonight
- 3:13Speaker 1: where they get to, like, spin the wheel? Yeah. So
- 3:15Speaker 1: what are some of the things? Tell people if they
- 3:17Speaker 1: haven't checked the show out. Yeah.
- 3:19Speaker 2: So there are a bunch of things you can do
- 3:21Speaker 2: on the wheel. Oh, there's a bunch of things you
- 3:28Speaker 2: can do on the wheel. So, like, if you misspell
- 3:30Speaker 2: a word, you have to spin the wheel. And then
- 3:32Speaker 2: there are various things. So you have to, like, do
- 3:35Speaker 2: a confession. You have to spit your game, which, like,
- 3:38Speaker 2: Tell us your favorite pickup line. You have to spell
- 3:41Speaker 2: the word backwards. You have to phone a friend. That's
- 3:45Speaker 2: my favorite one. Where you got to call your mom
- 3:46Speaker 2: and see if they can help you spell it. It's
- 3:49Speaker 2: a lot of fun.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Do you have some favorite moments from the show? I'm
- 3:53Speaker 1: sure just like comics trying to spell. Would you say, like,
- 3:57Speaker 1: are you guys, when you're looking for words, are you
- 3:59Speaker 1: like looking at like, okay, seventh grade reading level? Because
- 4:03Speaker 1: some of them are challenging. Some of them for sure
- 4:05Speaker 1: are like. not ordinary words.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Yeah, we try our hardest to put the most tricky
- 4:10Speaker 2: words that we can, because we recognize that comics have
- 4:13Speaker 2: a big ego, and also they're dumb, so it's like...
- 4:17Speaker 2: So I'm all in for the chaos.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Okay, watch it though, because you've got to do trivia
- 4:21Speaker 1: here in a little bit. Oh, well, yeah.
- 4:23Speaker 2: I'm going to miss every trivia word.
- 4:25Speaker 1: I'm going to make you spell the answers, too.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Ironically enough, I'm the worst speller.
- 4:30Speaker 1: I was going to ask if you were a good speller.
- 4:33Speaker 2: No, no, no, no. I remember in seventh grade, I
- 4:36Speaker 2: was one of the first people out of the spelling
- 4:38Speaker 2: bee for the word conscious.
- 4:40Speaker 1: I mean, that's a tough word, though.
- 4:41Speaker 2: It's a tricky word, right? But then that just deflated me,
- 4:43Speaker 2: so I just never learned how to spell.
- 4:44Speaker 1: I think I got out of the spelling bee, the
- 4:46Speaker 1: word government. I missed the end. Yeah. And I still
- 4:50Speaker 1: hate the government. That's the, that's my origin story. It's
- 4:56Speaker 1: been bullshit since then. I think that was like fourth grade. Um,
- 5:01Speaker 1: that's great. Um, So have you seen some good, like,
- 5:04Speaker 1: meltdowns from comics trying to spell words?
- 5:07Speaker 2: I've seen some good meltdowns. Last time at Mic Drop,
- 5:09Speaker 2: Chase took his pants off. Chase Harder, he took his
- 5:12Speaker 2: pants off. That video is coming soon.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Is that the viral clip?
- 5:15Speaker 2: Because I feel like that.
- 5:17Speaker 1: It will be. I feel like that has the opportunity.
- 5:21Speaker 2: It will be. And one of my favorite comedians locally,
- 5:24Speaker 2: his name's Anwar Newton. We did a phone a friend
- 5:27Speaker 2: challenge and he called his son. And it was like
- 5:29Speaker 2: the cutest thing. And then at the end of it,
- 5:32Speaker 2: he says, spell this word so daddy can come home.
- 5:34Speaker 2: And it just like broke the room.
- 5:36Speaker 1: That's so cute.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:38Speaker 1: I don't know how old his little one is. He
- 5:39Speaker 1: talks about his little one. Yeah.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Like he's a baby.
- 5:42Speaker 1: That's adorable. Yeah.
- 5:44Speaker 2: It's really cool.
- 5:45Speaker 1: I love that. So you were here a few years
- 5:48Speaker 1: ago as a comic. Yeah. On the festival. And it
- 5:50Speaker 1: sounds like you were pretty new to comedy then, right?
- 5:54Speaker 1: Because you said you've only been.
- 5:55Speaker 2: My three-year anniversary is in like two or three weeks.
- 5:59Speaker 1: So when you were here at Big Pine, you were
- 6:02Speaker 1: only like a little bit into... Hell yeah.
- 6:04Speaker 2: And that's what I liked about Big Pine because it's
- 6:06Speaker 2: open to like the local comedians. So I was able
- 6:10Speaker 2: to just like walk in. soak up all the game,
- 6:13Speaker 2: talk to a bunch of different comedians, watch all the panels,
- 6:16Speaker 2: eat food with the comedians. And I think that, in
- 6:18Speaker 2: a combination with our conversations, that kind of gave me
- 6:20Speaker 2: the confidence to pursue this. And I've been having fun
- 6:24Speaker 2: ever since.
- 6:25Speaker 1: So you were still in Gainesville?
- 6:27Speaker 2: Tampa.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Tampa, Florida.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I was in Tampa. Okay.
- 6:30Speaker 1: We got a local comic trying to, what's he, he's dancing?
- 6:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know. He's touching his nipples. It was weird.
- 6:35Speaker 2: It made me uncomfortable. His name is Jason Santiago.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Yeah. We'll tag him. Yeah. He's on a list somewhere probably.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Is he on the show later or something?
- 6:44Speaker 2: I don't think so. I think he's just here to
- 6:45Speaker 2: touch his nipples around people.
- 6:46Speaker 1: It's weird. Are you hoping to check out some of
- 6:49Speaker 1: the panels this weekend? Yeah.
- 6:51Speaker 2: I saw that Nate Jackson is coming, and that's very,
- 6:54Speaker 2: very exciting. He's one of my favorite comedians.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Hell yeah.
- 6:56Speaker 2: Yeah. So I want to definitely check that one out.
- 7:00Speaker 2: I missed the one today, but I'm going to be
- 7:01Speaker 2: available tomorrow. There's so much good stuff going on. That's
- 7:05Speaker 2: one of my favorite things about this is all of that.
- 7:07Speaker 2: We were talking about it with another comic I read.
- 7:10Speaker 2: I just saw it was passing by, and she was like,
- 7:12Speaker 2: I was at all of them this morning, like, taking notes.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Yeah. Because there's so much good stuff.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Honestly.
- 7:16Speaker 1: And people so willing to, like, share information. Yeah.
- 7:18Speaker 2: And, like, I just like the way that they curate
- 7:21Speaker 2: the list of comics. Because I've been to a couple
- 7:24Speaker 2: of different festivals, and I've actually been a part of festivals.
- 7:26Speaker 2: And this, by far, is, like, the most friendly, the
- 7:30Speaker 2: best comics. Everybody's cool. Like, I really do enjoy it.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Hell yeah. Yeah. Do you want to talk shit about anyone?
- 7:34Speaker 2: No, no, no, right now. I'm still trying to get
- 7:37Speaker 2: past those different clubs, but not yet. Give me like
- 7:39Speaker 2: three more years. Well, that's the people you don't like.
- 7:42Speaker 1: One thing we can complain about, the heat. It's tough.
- 7:46Speaker 2: It's tough.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Not as bad as a few years ago, though, when
- 7:49Speaker 1: the festival was in September. I felt bad for some
- 7:53Speaker 1: traveling comics.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure.
- 7:54Speaker 1: They were like in real cute. They had their outfits
- 7:57Speaker 1: and it was like a hundred.
- 7:58Speaker 2: 30 minutes later.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Yeah. Just melting like 115 degrees. And I'm like, This
- 8:02Speaker 1: is not a good way to be like, hey.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Come out to Phoenix and perform.
- 8:07Speaker 1: It's such a fun scene. Everyone has swass. I just
- 8:11Speaker 1: went in the bathroom with one sweaty armpit. I'm like,
- 8:13Speaker 1: this is not a good way to make a good impression.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure.
- 8:16Speaker 1: There's all these nice industry people. And I'm like, hi.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Everybody looks so bad. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Just like, this is not it. Big Pine. Please take
- 8:25Speaker 1: us back to Flagstaff. Please.
- 8:27Speaker 2: That's where the festival started.
- 8:29Speaker 1: That's why we got the little pine tree. I'm like,
- 8:31Speaker 1: give us some elevation.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Yeah, give us some cool air.
- 8:36Speaker 1: But we're lucky. We get to have it here in Chandler.
- 8:39Speaker 2: In downtown Chandler, yeah.
- 8:40Speaker 1: And are you guys going to be in the main room?
- 8:43Speaker 2: We're going to be in the garden.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Hell yeah.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Yeah, we're going to be in the garden 9 o'clock tonight.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Doors open at 8. And we are actually going to
- 8:49Speaker 2: be here a little bit earlier. We're here a little
- 8:50Speaker 2: bit earlier to bark. We want to make sure that
- 8:52Speaker 2: we fill out the room.
- 8:52Speaker 1: I love it. It's a really fun show. So you guys,
- 8:55Speaker 1: how often do you have the show here at Mic Drop?
- 8:58Speaker 2: So right now it's been monthly, which if you are
- 9:02Speaker 2: available in the area whenever this drops, DM me at
- 9:06Speaker 2: Johnny Tsunami and I will give you a free ticket.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Hell yeah.
- 9:08Speaker 1: I love it. It is a very fun show. I
- 9:11Speaker 1: feel like it's great if you're a big comedy fan
- 9:15Speaker 1: or if you're just looking for a fun thing. It's
- 9:17Speaker 1: just a fun and silly show and you get comics
- 9:20Speaker 1: like you know, like you said, the ego, you can
- 9:23Speaker 1: see like people that are like trying to take it
- 9:24Speaker 1: seriously and like trying to win. Yep.
- 9:27Speaker 2: And then you get people that don't care at all.
- 9:28Speaker 2: And it's still fun.
- 9:29Speaker 1: But fun seeing comics, like trying to like work the
- 9:32Speaker 1: word into their set or like, they're like, I don't
- 9:35Speaker 1: know what this word means. it's just like a fun
- 9:37Speaker 1: i feel like it kind of like the playing field.
- 9:39Speaker 2: It's it's even because yeah it's like half comedy and
- 9:43Speaker 2: then kind of half improv too yeah it.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Feels a little like variety show too and i can
- 9:47Speaker 1: tell you and it's sean yeah i can tell you
- 9:50Speaker 1: guys are having a good time up on the panel
- 9:52Speaker 1: like watching everyone it's a blast yeah it's a really
- 9:55Speaker 1: fun show so make sure you check that out please
- 9:58Speaker 1: at mic drop it is worth the drive from wherever
- 10:00Speaker 1: you are in Arizona.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Especially for a free ticket at Johnny Tsunami.
- 10:04Speaker 1: Please. Hell yeah, that's very nice. This is a good club.
- 10:08Speaker 1: I believe it's time for a little trivia.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Let's do it. I'm locked in. Let's get it.
- 10:12Speaker 1: I'm nervous for you only because you were talking shit
- 10:14Speaker 1: about comics, having egos, and thinking they're something.
- 10:18Speaker 2: I'm a hypocrite sometimes, so that's fine.
- 10:22Speaker 1: All right.
- 10:22Speaker 2: All right, let's do it.
- 10:23Speaker 1: He's feeling good.
- 10:24Speaker 2: I'm feeling confident.
- 10:25Speaker 1: I feel like this is a tough one.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Let it rip. Let's go.
- 10:28Speaker 1: How many Indiana Jones films are there? Let's go with
- 10:33Speaker 1: a little multiple choice for my friend here. Is it four, five,
- 10:40Speaker 1: or six?
- 10:42Speaker 2: I'm going to be honest. I can't name one Indiana Jones.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Not one? Not one.
- 10:46Speaker 2: Like, in my brain, I wanted to say, like, Indiana
- 10:49Speaker 2: Jones and the Sorcerer's Stone. But that's like Harry Potter, right?
- 10:54Speaker 2: And the Garden of Eden. But Eden, he's not Christian.
- 10:57Speaker 2: I don't know. And the Sorcerer's Stone. My answer is five.
- 11:03Speaker 1: That's a really good answer because that's the correct answer. Ding, ding, ding.
- 11:06Speaker 1: I know I started a little too high. I should
- 11:08Speaker 1: have been like, are there three, four, or five? But
- 11:10Speaker 1: I was like, who has six movies? Like, Star Wars and....
- 11:15Speaker 2: Scream.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Lord of the Rings, maybe? I don't know.
- 11:18Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 11:19Speaker 1: My husband's going to be mad I didn't know that.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Fast and Furious. Let's go with Fast and Furious, yeah.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Fast and Furious? Yeah, it's like the Fast and Furious dynasty. Okay,
- 11:25Speaker 1: I feel like this one is going to be a
- 11:27Speaker 1: softball for you.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Okay, let's do it.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Can you name all of the original colors of the
- 11:32Speaker 1: Power Rangers?
- 11:33Speaker 2: Absolutely, I can. Yeah. The original? Yeah. Okay, that's it. Okay,
- 11:39Speaker 2: this is where I don't want to be like the
- 11:40Speaker 2: nerd guy, but like... Here we go. I don't know
- 11:43Speaker 2: if we count green, but I'm just going to go
- 11:45Speaker 2: with the 1993 movie. So that's yellow, black, red, blue, pink.
- 11:56Speaker 2: I don't... See, that's... The movie had white, but then
- 11:59Speaker 2: he was green. So I don't know if... White. That's
- 12:03Speaker 2: my final answer. I mean.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Am I missing one?
- 12:04Speaker 2: You were correct. You were correct.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Green?
- 12:08Speaker 1: Oh, come on. I don't have the white one listed
- 12:10Speaker 1: on here. I think... Yeah. Okay.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Well, didn't that count still?
- 12:15Speaker 1: Liliana's hoping with the assist here.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Thank you, Liliana. Can I still count?
- 12:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:18Speaker 2: All right, party.
- 12:19Speaker 1: I'm very generous with points here because it doesn't mean anything.
- 12:21Speaker 1: I'm just like, you tried your best.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Two points. You get an A for effort.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Were you a big Power Rangers fan?
- 12:27Speaker 2: Absolutely. The first thing I wanted to be was a
- 12:29Speaker 2: Power Ranger in my whole life.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Yeah. What color Power Ranger would you want to be?
- 12:32Speaker 2: Oh, come on.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Black. Black. Yeah.
- 12:33Speaker 2: The Black Ranger, he was doing back flips and break dancing.
- 12:36Speaker 2: It does feel a little.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Weird, the racial coloring in that show. That is a little....
- 12:43Speaker 2: It's a little weird.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. It feels a little weird, but I didn't.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Want to say it. Yeah, who cared?
- 12:51Speaker 1: It was a fun show.
- 12:52Speaker 2: The black was black.
- 12:53Speaker 1: Come on.
- 12:55Speaker 2: I can't say any other colors because I don't want
- 12:56Speaker 2: this to get flagged.
- 12:58Speaker 1: It felt a little weird.
- 12:59Speaker 2: If you know, you know.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Yeah. It was a different time.
- 13:03Speaker 2: We know better, so we do better.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Right.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Amen.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Okay. The actor, Noah Wiley... It's the start of two
- 13:13Speaker 1: shows based on hospitals. ER and The Pit.
- 13:18Speaker 2: I love The Pit.
- 13:19Speaker 1: I haven't watched it yet, but I know people love it.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Have you all seen The Pit?
- 13:23Speaker 1: I do want to watch it.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Oh, it's the best show on TV right now.
- 13:26Speaker 1: I want to watch it. I've heard very good things.
- 13:28Speaker 1: And I definitely see the meme of him all the
- 13:31Speaker 1: time looking in the room. I see it all the
- 13:35Speaker 1: time on threads.
- 13:36Speaker 2: It's the best show for somebody that has ADD. Because
- 13:39Speaker 2: it goes from like, you know, sick person to sick
- 13:42Speaker 2: person to sick person to like sex and drama to
- 13:44Speaker 2: sick person.
- 13:45Speaker 1: All your favorite things.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:49Speaker 1: You're like, this is all I need.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
- 13:51Speaker 1: No, I have heard that it's great and I want
- 13:54Speaker 1: to watch it. One thing I heard is like that
- 13:56Speaker 1: they did, I think it was like an ice related episode.
- 13:59Speaker 1: People were like, this is political.
- 14:03Speaker 2: And they did it really tastefully though.
- 14:05Speaker 1: I'm sure. Yeah. I'm sure they did.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Really, really nice.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Okay, this is, I feel like, an interesting one for
- 14:10Speaker 1: Carlos Rodriguez, who writes all of our questions.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Shout out to Carlos.
- 14:14Speaker 1: Shout out to Carlos. How many tablespoons are in a
- 14:16Speaker 1: stick of butter? Eight.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I love that. What's funny is... I love to cook.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Do you?
- 14:24Speaker 2: I do. And I use a lot of butter. And
- 14:25Speaker 2: you know, good butter. Can I go on my butter spiel?
- 14:28Speaker 1: Please. This is your time.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Oh, thank you.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Speak on it.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Thank you. So, like, you'll have, like, bad butter, which is, like, $ 4. Uh-huh.
- 14:36Speaker 2: How much do you think, like, four eight-tablespoon sticks of...
- 14:40Speaker 2: Or eight sticks of... Excuse me.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Uh-huh.
- 14:42Speaker 2: How many four.
- 14:45Speaker 1: It's okay. We'll edit it out. Don't worry.
- 14:47Speaker 2: How many... How much money do you think four sticks
- 14:51Speaker 2: of good butter costs?
- 14:52Speaker 1: Are we talking like Kerrygold?
- 14:54Speaker 2: Kerrygold. Irish butter. I'm talking about, we're talking about telemook. Okay?
- 14:59Speaker 2: We're talking about good butter.
- 15:00Speaker 1: I like to bake.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Oh, so you know how much it costs.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:04Speaker 2: Yeah, like 20 bucks for those who don't know. Just
- 15:06Speaker 2: some good ass butter. And it's worth it, though. That's
- 15:08Speaker 2: my thing is I always buy expensive butter.
- 15:10Speaker 1: So, yeah. Okay. Come on.
- 15:12Speaker 2: I'm butter, man.
- 15:12Speaker 1: This is a very fun fact to learn about you.
- 15:15Speaker 2: I love to cook, man.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Is it just a comic that you've seen here and
- 15:18Speaker 1: there that you love to talk to? And they're just like,
- 15:20Speaker 1: I fucking love butter.
- 15:21Speaker 2: I fucking love butter. And I'm ready to speak on it.
- 15:23Speaker 2: And can I say something on this podcast? This is
- 15:24Speaker 2: a podcast exclusive. So me and the cook here at
- 15:28Speaker 2: Mic Drop are working on a show called, what is
- 15:32Speaker 2: it called? Pressure Cooker, where we're going to do comics
- 15:36Speaker 2: and cooking.
- 15:37Speaker 1: I love that.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Is it Scott? Scott, yeah. So we're excited. That's going
- 15:42Speaker 2: to come probably in the fall.
- 15:43Speaker 1: I believe his tag is Memphis Cooks.
- 15:45Speaker 2: Yeah, you got a good memory.
- 15:46Speaker 1: He's a good guy. I just love when I come
- 15:48Speaker 1: in here, I try to go in and say hi
- 15:50Speaker 1: to everybody. He's a good dude.
- 15:51Speaker 2: He's an awesome guy. And he works at Mic Drop Mania,
- 15:54Speaker 2: located here at Down.
- 15:55Speaker 1: He makes delicious nachos. He makes pretzels.
- 15:58Speaker 2: He's a good guy. Yes, he does. He's a good guy.
- 15:59Speaker 1: He brought his daughter to a comedy panel that we did.
- 16:02Speaker 1: She wants to.
- 16:04Speaker 2: Have you seen her set?
- 16:05Speaker 1: No.
- 16:06Speaker 2: She is so.
- 16:06Speaker 1: But I love that.
- 16:07Speaker 2: It was very wholesome. He just sent it to me
- 16:08Speaker 2: last weekend. It's so funny.
- 16:10Speaker 1: I believe it.
- 16:11Speaker 2: She's like 13 and she's a natural.
- 16:13Speaker 1: I love it. Yeah. We love to see more women
- 16:15Speaker 1: in comedy.
- 16:16Speaker 2: More women in comedy.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Yes. That's very cool. What's your favorite dish to cook
- 16:21Speaker 1: with all your butter?
- 16:22Speaker 2: Wow.
- 16:22Speaker 1: With all your fancy expensive butter.
- 16:24Speaker 2: So I like to make a spicy rigatoni.
- 16:27Speaker 1: Oh, shit. Yeah.
- 16:28Speaker 2: I do.
- 16:28Speaker 1: I do.
- 16:29Speaker 2: There's a.
- 16:31Speaker 2: There is a restaurant called Carbone. That's in New York
- 16:34Speaker 2: and LA. And they have a really, really nice spicy rigatoni.
- 16:38Speaker 2: And I do a copycat dish of that. Yeah, it's
- 16:40Speaker 2: very good.
- 16:41Speaker 1: So when you were trying to win over your lady,
- 16:45Speaker 1: did you cook for her?
- 16:45Speaker 2: Absolutely. Yeah, for sure.
- 16:47Speaker 1: What did you cook for her?
- 16:48Speaker 2: A spicy rigatoni. Tried and true.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Still together?
- 16:53Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
- 16:54Speaker 1: So it must be really good.
- 16:55Speaker 2: It's amazing.
- 16:56Speaker 1: I love that. I feel like that's a fun fact
- 16:59Speaker 1: about you. Yeah. You like to.
- 17:01Speaker 2: I love to cook.
- 17:01Speaker 1: A man cares about his butter. We love it.
- 17:03Speaker 2: That's right.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Butter, man. John Boyd cares about the butter. What year
- 17:07Speaker 1: did the iPhone debut?
- 17:10Speaker 2: 2007.
- 17:11Speaker 1: I love it.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Did you see my notes? No, I didn't. I just
- 17:13Speaker 2: know that.
- 17:13Speaker 1: How did you know that?
- 17:14Speaker 2: I love tech, too. Yeah. I'm a renaissance man.
- 17:18Speaker 1: He is.
- 17:18Speaker 2: I do it all. I cook. I clean. I like butter.
- 17:22Speaker 2: I know about iPhone. I do it all. I'm funny.
- 17:24Speaker 1: I'm hilarious. You're a decent speller.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Well. A good dude.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Now.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Yeah. Thank you. Wow. Okay, here's one for you. Who
- 17:33Speaker 1: was on the $ 50 bill?
- 17:37Speaker 2: Holy shit. Can I curse? Sorry.
- 17:40Speaker 1: I mean, we've said all kinds of horrible stuff on here.
- 17:42Speaker 2: I don't even remember. I curse so much I don't
- 17:43Speaker 2: even think about it.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Is it.
- 17:45Speaker 2: Who was on the $ 50 bill?
- 17:46Speaker 1: Andrew Jackson.
- 17:47Speaker 2: No, he's on the $ 20.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Ulysses Grant. Or Harriet Tubman.
- 17:51Speaker 2: Well, Harriet Tubman should have been on the $ 20. That's
- 17:53Speaker 2: some controversy. So it's Grant. That's right.
- 17:58Speaker 1: See, another just lob it. Just... Right to you. I
- 18:02Speaker 1: feel like you're killing it with the points. How many
- 18:04Speaker 1: points does he have?
- 18:05Speaker 2: Come on, man.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Come on.
- 18:07Speaker 2: How many questions are left?
- 18:09Speaker 1: Four.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Let's full sweep this thing. Come on. Let's do it.
- 18:11Speaker 1: You might know this from your viewing of ER and
- 18:14Speaker 1: The Pit, but what does DOA stand for?
- 18:17Speaker 2: Dead on Arrival. Yes. Come on, man.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Crushing it.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Come on, man. Let's get 10 for 10. Let's do it.
- 18:22Speaker 2: Come on.
- 18:22Speaker 1: I'm right there. I think this might be the first
- 18:23Speaker 1: 10 for 10 in Blackjack. An ace can be valued
- 18:27Speaker 1: as which two numbers?
- 18:30Speaker 2: A one or an 11.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Fuck.
- 18:32Speaker 2: Come on. I'm locked in. I'm locked in. What happens
- 18:35Speaker 2: if he sweeps all of them? Brian, I'm locked in.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Come on, man. I'm locked in.
- 18:38Speaker 1: He's got... Two more.
- 18:39Speaker 2: Two more.
- 18:40Speaker 1: Oh, shit.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Okay.
- 18:42Speaker 1: What was Kevin Hart's first special titled?
- 18:45Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 18:47Speaker 1: It's... I can make some up. No, it's... If you need.
- 18:54Speaker 1: I didn't know this one. He's thinking hard.
- 19:01Speaker 2: It's not Laugh At My Pain because that was the
- 19:03Speaker 2: one that came after. And is it called Funny Little Man?
- 19:08Speaker 1: Dang.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Is it?
- 19:12Speaker 1: Is it?
- 19:12Speaker 2: Chuck, what's up, Chuck?
- 19:13Speaker 1: Yeah. What's up, bro? Good to see you.
- 19:16Speaker 2: I'm in the middle of a trivia.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Sorry. I thought he was about to phone a friend.
- 19:19Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. I should. Nice to see you too, brother.
- 19:23Speaker 2: It's been, right?
- 19:23Speaker 1: See ya. Just making friends here.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Is it, is it, it's not, I'm close.
- 19:30Speaker 1: You're real close.
- 19:31Speaker 2: I know the joke, because he does this joke where
- 19:35Speaker 2: he's like on a stool and he does like his
- 19:38Speaker 2: legs and where he's talking to a girl.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Yeah. I feel like, I feel like we're so close
- 19:44Speaker 1: to making a Mic Drop Comedy podcast history here at
- 19:48Speaker 1: Big Pine on day two.
- 19:49Speaker 2: I shouldn't ask for the multiple choice because now when
- 19:52Speaker 2: you say it, I'm going to know it.
- 19:52Speaker 1: And local delight, John Boyd.
- 19:54Speaker 2: It's not funny little man. It's like funny.
- 19:56Speaker 1: I don't remember. All right.
- 20:02Speaker 2: Give me the multiple choice. Just make up three and
- 20:03Speaker 2: then just like confuse me. I'm ready.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Come on.
- 20:06Speaker 2: I'm sorry. We're going to. I'm going to use my lifeline.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Is it Laughing in My Pain? No.
- 20:12Speaker 2: That's the second one.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Poor Little Man? No. Or I'm a Grown Little Man?
- 20:16Speaker 2: I'm a Grown Little Man. That's what it is. Yeah,
- 20:17Speaker 2: he got it. He got it. I'm a Grown Little Man.
- 20:18Speaker 2: There you go. Thank you.
- 20:19Speaker 1: With the assist. With the assist.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Appreciate the assist.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 20:22Speaker 2: And let's do this last one. Let's knock it right
- 20:24Speaker 2: out of the park.
- 20:24Speaker 1: What failed music streaming service was founded by rapper Jay-Z?
- 20:30Speaker 2: Oh, title.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Hell yeah. Come on, man. Come on. A round of applause. Yeah.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Look in that camera, too. Let them see you. Let
- 20:39Speaker 1: them see you. Dang, you crushed it.
- 20:42Speaker 2: Thank you. I appreciate it.
- 20:43Speaker 1: Hell, yeah. Are you feeling good for the Be Funny tonight?
- 20:47Speaker 2: I feel a lot better.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah.
- 20:49Speaker 2: This was exciting. This made me get in my funny groove,
- 20:52Speaker 2: and I feel sharp.
- 20:53Speaker 1: We should have had you spell all of your answers. No.
- 20:55Speaker 2: Jesus Christ. Just spell.
- 21:00Speaker 1: I'm, like, looking for.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Please don't. I'm going to spell it wrong. No, no.
- 21:04Speaker 1: That's a tough one.
- 21:06Speaker 2: G-R-A-E.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Do you have a word that you consistently spell wrong?
- 21:09Speaker 2: All of them. I am the worst. Like, thank God
- 21:11Speaker 2: for autocorrect. I really am the worst speller.
- 21:13Speaker 1: One for me is restaurant.
- 21:15Speaker 2: Oh, is it the first T? The A-U.
- 21:19Speaker 1: I'm like, A-U or A-U-N? That's one of those. And
- 21:23Speaker 1: I work as a copywriter, so I should know how
- 21:25Speaker 1: to spell shit, but that's one that I always have
- 21:27Speaker 1: to pause.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Yeah, you should. I feel like February is always tough. February, yeah. Yeah,
- 21:35Speaker 2: I even pronounced it wrong. There's that R that sneaks
- 21:37Speaker 2: up on me.
- 21:38Speaker 1: It's fucking R's, man.
- 21:39Speaker 2: They'll get you. Fuck the R's.
- 21:42Speaker 1: This has been so fun getting to sit and chat
- 21:44Speaker 1: with you. Besides Be Funny, where can people check you
- 21:49Speaker 1: out if they want to follow your stuff?
- 21:51Speaker 2: I am constantly in Phoenix and or Chicago. But if
- 21:56Speaker 2: you can, to stay updated, you're going to go to
- 21:58Speaker 2: at Johnny Tsunami. That's my Instagram. Or by John Boyd. B-Y-J-O-N-B-O-Y-D.
- 22:04Speaker 1: And you can check out, he mentioned some of the
- 22:06Speaker 1: clips are going to be on YouTube. We're very excited
- 22:08Speaker 1: to see some more of those. Maybe one of mine.
- 22:11Speaker 1: Hell yeah. John boy. Thank you so much.
- 22:13Speaker 2: Thank you for having me. Are we doing this?
- 22:15Speaker 1: Yeah. Love you. Thank you. We'll see you guys next time. Bye.
