- 0:01Speaker 1: In this corner, standing at six foot five, weight class unknowns,
- 0:05Speaker 1: but hailing from the city of Sins. Put your hands
- 0:07Speaker 1: together for Jamison will and in this sending it five
- 0:11Speaker 1: foot ten, weighing in at town and coming to us
- 0:16Speaker 1: from his super secret bunker with no AC in Tucson, Arizona.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Put your hands together for Luis Monto.
- 0:25Speaker 3: All right, welcome back to another edition of the Mix
- 0:27Speaker 3: Scupy Podcast. Of course I'm one of your host, Jameson.
- 0:30Speaker 3: As always, I'm joined by Luis Louis.
- 0:32Speaker 2: What's going on, man, Jameson, I am so happy to
- 0:35Speaker 2: be back on the mic.
- 0:36Speaker 4: Typically, you know, we dropped episodes every other Thursday, but
- 0:39Speaker 4: last week we recorded a special bonus show to discuss
- 0:43Speaker 4: our reactions after the Canelo Crawford megafight.
- 0:46Speaker 2: So go back and check that out if you missed it.
- 0:47Speaker 4: We do talk a lot about, you know, what the
- 0:49Speaker 4: next thing is going to be for Bud and Canelo
- 0:51Speaker 4: and what they're gonna.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Do going forward.
- 0:53Speaker 4: So the episode is still very timely, even though the
- 0:55Speaker 4: fight is now about almost two weeks away.
- 0:58Speaker 5: Uh.
- 0:58Speaker 4: But for today's episode, I want to start with a
- 1:00Speaker 4: couple of shoutouts because last Saturday night was actually a
- 1:03Speaker 4: night of some excellent boxing that flew under the radar.
- 1:06Speaker 4: Shout out to Overtime Boxing Jamison. Have you are you
- 1:08Speaker 4: familiar with that platform or overtime sports in general.
- 1:11Speaker 3: Overtime Yes, the platform, yes, not necessarily boxing, but the
- 1:15Speaker 3: platform absolutely.
- 1:18Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:18Speaker 4: This is these guys. I've been following them on Instagram
- 1:21Speaker 4: for a while. They promote their boxing showcases live events.
- 1:25Speaker 4: I finally got a chance to actually catch one. It's
- 1:28Speaker 4: broadcast on his own but it's also live streamed on
- 1:30Speaker 4: YouTube for free and ig Live. So if they showcase
- 1:34Speaker 4: up and coming names, they actually their things. They try
- 1:37Speaker 4: to promote more exciting fights with innovative rules, like smaller
- 1:40Speaker 4: rings so there's less room to dance ground. They do
- 1:43Speaker 4: KO bonuses, but the bonuses are higher in the first
- 1:47Speaker 4: and the last rounds, so they sort of say, well,
- 1:49Speaker 4: the fight can start strong and end strong, and there's
- 1:51Speaker 4: actually an overtime round so if the fight is to draw,
- 1:54Speaker 4: they just have the guys going on the round.
- 1:56Speaker 2: So I want to talk about a couple of fights
- 1:59Speaker 2: that I saw, but I just want to get your
- 2:00Speaker 2: take on these rules.
- 2:01Speaker 4: You know, they're obviously very different than what we're used to,
- 2:04Speaker 4: and uh, you know, is that something that you think
- 2:06Speaker 4: is innovative for boxing and good or is it like
- 2:09Speaker 4: you're destroying the integrity of the sport.
- 2:12Speaker 6: So here's the thing. We have to adapt. Like sports,
- 2:15Speaker 6: every sport adapts.
- 2:17Speaker 3: I mean today major League Baseball put in a rule
- 2:19Speaker 3: that you can you can challenge a ball or strike.
- 2:23Speaker 3: Every every sport has some sort of updating, getting with
- 2:28Speaker 3: the times, et cetera, et cetera. I don't dessarily mind it.
- 2:31Speaker 3: You know, shortening the ring is interesting. I remember boxing,
- 2:35Speaker 3: they had this like bear and knuckle boxing a few
- 2:37Speaker 3: years back, where guys wore like very thin gloves. Basically
- 2:42Speaker 3: it was like gloves are best basically cover their knuckles.
- 2:45Speaker 3: So it was there's always been something going on. There's
- 2:47Speaker 3: always been some sort of, you know, version of boxing
- 2:52Speaker 3: that's coming in. I don't necessarily mind it. I like
- 2:55Speaker 3: the kale bonuses. That's interesting, just to make fighting. You know,
- 3:00Speaker 3: I don't mind it a lot. I think that's actually
- 3:03Speaker 3: it doesn't hurt the integratives ofput it that way. I think,
- 3:06Speaker 3: if anything, it adds more intrigue to things. If anything.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Sure, I'm not a purist on a lot of things.
- 3:13Speaker 4: I mean, I don't think I've ever tried a pizza
- 3:16Speaker 4: with pineapple lot.
- 3:17Speaker 2: To be honest, I'm not against it.
- 3:19Speaker 4: If you had one and wanted me to have a slice,
- 3:20Speaker 4: I would, but I wouldn't buy it. But the other things,
- 3:23Speaker 4: you know, I'm cool to try different things, you know,
- 3:26Speaker 4: and to make the sport livelier.
- 3:27Speaker 2: And here's the thing. I watched four fights that night.
- 3:29Speaker 2: They were all really exciting.
- 3:32Speaker 4: There were names I hadn't really heard of, but they
- 3:34Speaker 4: were all and most of the fighters were like twenty
- 3:37Speaker 4: fights are less.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Like Twitter or less, so you know, not babies.
- 3:40Speaker 4: But also, you know, it was most importantly it was
- 3:45Speaker 4: in my hometown of Houston, which is awesome, and there
- 3:48Speaker 4: were a bunch of Houston fighters there, and yeah, every
- 3:51Speaker 4: fight very good technical boxing, but also very people were
- 3:57Speaker 4: letting their hands go. You know, nobody was you know,
- 4:00Speaker 4: dilly dialing. They were very aggressive but also very just
- 4:04Speaker 4: just guilt. H There was a women's match, there was
- 4:07Speaker 4: an official WBC title fight. Tiara Brown held on to
- 4:10Speaker 4: her featherweight belt and yeah, you know, it's one of
- 4:14Speaker 4: those where I'm like, I don't know why I haven't
- 4:17Speaker 4: just gotten a chance to sit down and catch one
- 4:19Speaker 4: of these events because they're they're always advertising on Instagram
- 4:22Speaker 4: and you know, I think this was their sixteenth round.
- 4:25Speaker 4: Like I said back by the Zone, the WBC World
- 4:27Speaker 4: Boxing Council is an official partner.
- 4:30Speaker 2: They sanctioned the new rules. They said they were cool with.
- 4:33Speaker 4: It, you know, the ring size and the overtime round,
- 4:35Speaker 4: so you know they're they're legit. And I was just
- 4:39Speaker 4: very very impressed with the production quality.
- 4:42Speaker 2: No dilly dealing between fights sponsored by a.
- 4:48Speaker 4: Very popular national sandwich chain that I won't name unless
- 4:51Speaker 4: they pay us, but you can tell the difference between
- 4:54Speaker 4: overtime sponsored by them and like you know, major fight
- 4:57Speaker 4: sponsored by DraftKings and like whatever movie's coming out.
- 5:00Speaker 2: So but this is exactly what I think boxing means
- 5:04Speaker 2: more of.
- 5:04Speaker 4: Is again those guys, and we've talked about it, those
- 5:07Speaker 4: fighters that are you know it's at ten and oh
- 5:10Speaker 4: fifteen to oh you don't know their names, but there's people.
- 5:13Speaker 2: To watch, you know. I want.
- 5:16Speaker 4: What I want is people to be encouraged to tune
- 5:18Speaker 4: into a fight, even it's random people you haven't heard of, Yeah,
- 5:22Speaker 4: and you might become a fan. And here's what I'm
- 5:25Speaker 4: going to tune into the next overtime boxing event for sure.
- 5:29Speaker 4: So this is I think what's good for the sport
- 5:31Speaker 4: is is not everything has to be a mega fight,
- 5:35Speaker 4: you know.
- 5:36Speaker 6: No, I think there should be more boxing available because
- 5:39Speaker 6: the casual.
- 5:40Speaker 3: People want to know people, they want to get you know,
- 5:43Speaker 3: they want to follow along, but there's not enough events
- 5:45Speaker 3: to follow along. Then they're not you know, you got
- 5:47Speaker 3: to create the interest. You have to make sure that
- 5:49Speaker 3: guys are active. And I think, especially if you don't
- 5:51Speaker 3: have a name, you know, a name, you can't afford
- 5:54Speaker 3: to be fighting once every eight months. It don't work
- 5:55Speaker 3: that way, because doesn't I think if you look on
- 5:58Speaker 3: any fighters Wikipedia and you look at their boxing by
- 6:04Speaker 3: you look at their whole all their fights in the beginning,
- 6:07Speaker 3: you see how active they were, and it's going for
- 6:09Speaker 3: pretty much any boxer. You go go with Copet, look
- 6:12Speaker 3: at all their fights go from the start to now
- 6:16Speaker 3: or the retirement. They're so active in the beginning it's
- 6:19Speaker 3: unreal and then you see it tape or off for
- 6:22Speaker 3: whatever reason, and it's very fascinating.
- 6:24Speaker 6: But when you're coming up, you have to make a
- 6:26Speaker 6: name for yourself.
- 6:26Speaker 3: You have to fight often, you have to fight in
- 6:28Speaker 3: random places, and that's how we know people for sure.
- 6:33Speaker 4: That's something I kind of think is cool about. You know,
- 6:35Speaker 4: I love Tucson, I do, but it's it's not like
- 6:38Speaker 4: a real city.
- 6:40Speaker 2: You know, Houston's a real city and places like that.
- 6:42Speaker 4: So I feel like you just go downtown on a
- 6:44Speaker 4: random Saturday a legit boxing event, which is cool.
- 6:48Speaker 2: So I don't miss living in Houston.
- 6:50Speaker 4: I don't miss living in Texas, but stuff like that,
- 6:53Speaker 4: it's just there needs to be more of it. I
- 6:54Speaker 4: think we lost some of it, and there's some conversations
- 6:56Speaker 4: we can have later about, you know, the thechine of
- 6:59Speaker 4: boxing heaven lost over the years. But one last thing
- 7:02Speaker 4: about that event. For the main for the main fight,
- 7:05Speaker 4: the announcers were like, hey, we got a special guest here.
- 7:07Speaker 4: You know great fighters, you know this guy you know?
- 7:10Speaker 3: Uh?
- 7:10Speaker 2: And I was like, but like Joe from Joe's Mechanic, Like,
- 7:14Speaker 2: who do you have here in this event? It was
- 7:15Speaker 2: Chris Stevenson.
- 7:16Speaker 4: Like she showed up to guests coveted. Yeah, I was, Yeah,
- 7:21Speaker 4: I was, I was, Actually I was impressed.
- 7:22Speaker 2: I was very cynical.
- 7:24Speaker 3: I was like, what.
- 7:25Speaker 4: Random guy that you know his three and oh and
- 7:28Speaker 4: one did you get? But no, she showed up and
- 7:31Speaker 4: you know, they talked about his upcoming fight with Tyo.
- 7:34Speaker 3: They talked a.
- 7:34Speaker 4: Little bit about you know, uh Canola versus Crawford and
- 7:37Speaker 4: and yeah, he just seen me having a good time.
- 7:40Speaker 3: So you know what, I'm gonna get securiously with some props.
- 7:43Speaker 3: He really loves the sport of boxing. He really puts
- 7:46Speaker 3: on and he really enjoys the sport. Whether you agreer
- 7:50Speaker 3: dis agree about his fighting style or his fight born
- 7:53Speaker 3: or not, whatever, he is a good ambassador for the
- 7:56Speaker 3: sport because he talks boxing and he understand and level
- 8:01Speaker 3: headedness about the sport. He's not a homer. He gives
- 8:05Speaker 3: great analysis of what he says. It's not that says,
- 8:08Speaker 3: oh this person best cause I said so now he
- 8:10Speaker 3: breaks it down. And also he is a likable guy.
- 8:14Speaker 3: I think he can if he cleaned the a little bit,
- 8:17Speaker 3: hen be really likable. But just in general, he's a
- 8:20Speaker 3: likable guy and that goes a long way when you're
- 8:23Speaker 3: trying to gain new fans and make big fights.
- 8:25Speaker 6: And I wish we had more of those types in
- 8:28Speaker 6: our sport.
- 8:30Speaker 4: Yeah, he's he's likable, he loves boxing, he respects the history.
- 8:34Speaker 4: But also say whatever you will about whether he's born.
- 8:37Speaker 4: He's a skilled and talented fighter. You know, there's no question,
- 8:41Speaker 4: like you say that, you know he'd be better if
- 8:43Speaker 4: he were more active or wast's whatever, whatever you want
- 8:46Speaker 4: to say. You cannot tell me that kid is not,
- 8:49Speaker 4: you know, a very very skilled, delead fighter.
- 8:51Speaker 2: So yeah, so shout out.
- 8:54Speaker 3: To him also that also, like, here's the thing too,
- 8:58Speaker 3: he has an even approach, which is prime why we're
- 9:01Speaker 3: waiting on him to take the next step become that
- 9:04Speaker 3: ultra guy that is like, you know, king of the castle,
- 9:07Speaker 3: top of the food chain kind of guy. He has
- 9:09Speaker 3: that kind of skill set. Now does they have that
- 9:11Speaker 3: kind of motive? Is they have that kind of mentality?
- 9:13Speaker 3: We're gonna find out sooner or later. But he has
- 9:15Speaker 3: another notch or two we can go or get to,
- 9:18Speaker 3: and I can't wait to see it if if that
- 9:19Speaker 3: comes about.
- 9:21Speaker 4: Absolutely, So shout out to him for giving Houston some
- 9:24Speaker 4: love Overtime Boxing some love for all y'all out there
- 9:26Speaker 4: follow Overtime Boxing. They go by OTX, follow him on
- 9:29Speaker 4: Instagram and on YouTube. So, like I said, I'm definitely
- 9:32Speaker 4: gonna be checking out their next event. So all right,
- 9:36Speaker 4: another shout out goes to the late Ricky Haddon. He
- 9:38Speaker 4: passed away the weekend of the thirteenth when the Canelo
- 9:41Speaker 4: fight was happening.
- 9:42Speaker 2: We mentioned it the last episode, but we didn't talk
- 9:44Speaker 2: much about it. You know, a lot going on.
- 9:45Speaker 4: But British boxer Hall of Famer forty five and three
- 9:50Speaker 4: thirty two of those wins by Ko. So now you
- 9:53Speaker 4: had mentioned I believe actually in our first episode that
- 9:56Speaker 4: his fight against Mayweather was one of the craziest things
- 9:58Speaker 4: you've ever seen, so just really quickly that I think
- 10:02Speaker 4: sort of gets at the heart of what it's like
- 10:05Speaker 4: watching boxing in mixed company. So yes, if you don't
- 10:07Speaker 4: mind repeating the story, Jameson. So this was a two
- 10:09Speaker 4: thousand and seven in Vegas, tell us the vibe of
- 10:13Speaker 4: Mayweather versus happening.
- 10:14Speaker 3: So this was before this those Stone This was those
- 10:17Speaker 3: seven or eight. I think it may have an eight.
- 10:19Speaker 3: When was that fight?
- 10:20Speaker 2: I thought it's seven, but don't you.
- 10:22Speaker 6: Know, because I want to say he fought it might
- 10:25Speaker 6: have been owait.
- 10:25Speaker 3: I think it was a fall the fall oh seven
- 10:27Speaker 3: because you fought Oscar sim going to mile O seven,
- 10:30Speaker 3: So that fight was probably the fall O seven.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Just Nocember eight, December twenty two, seven.
- 10:36Speaker 6: Okay, yep, so uh yeah. So the Brits and all
- 10:40Speaker 6: of UK was here.
- 10:41Speaker 3: The whole week. They was drinking out bars, they was
- 10:44Speaker 3: they was drinking, drinking and they rolled deep everywhere. They
- 10:48Speaker 3: were in the local bars, they were on the strip.
- 10:51Speaker 3: They made their presence felt. And that was when you
- 10:54Speaker 3: could go to indy establishment and watch the fight. There
- 10:57Speaker 3: was no ten dollar entry fee, twenty fal there was
- 10:59Speaker 3: none of that. This was back in the day. It's
- 11:01Speaker 3: one of the last few ones where you can literally
- 11:03Speaker 3: watch the fight at any establishment. So with that being said,
- 11:07Speaker 3: all the places are gonna be packed, sports books, bars,
- 11:09Speaker 3: et cetera. Well, the place I go to, which is
- 11:12Speaker 3: a sportsbook bar at Red Rock, had people standing oliver
- 11:18Speaker 3: and sitting down. So it was all hell breaks loose.
- 11:22Speaker 3: So as the fight goes on and we know what
- 11:24Speaker 3: happens in that fight, you have drunken brigs that are
- 11:29Speaker 3: upset and the man's getting tagged, and you got us
- 11:32Speaker 3: and others celebrating because we know what bought happened. And
- 11:36Speaker 3: there was a bottle throne at a bartender and a
- 11:40Speaker 3: bartendardity old hospital, and there are people arrested, and it's
- 11:44Speaker 3: all kinds of stuff going on. But that was like
- 11:47Speaker 3: the wildest night I've seen watching boxing. And again that
- 11:50Speaker 3: is the ultien mix company, cause that is for its
- 11:53Speaker 3: first USA. That's white horses, black that your guys getting
- 11:57Speaker 3: beat up and you pay a lot of money to
- 11:59Speaker 3: get here. It's a lot of different things. And yeah,
- 12:02Speaker 3: and it's funny because you had two mixed company mega
- 12:05Speaker 3: fights that same year, which is very fun because Floyd
- 12:08Speaker 3: Oscar was a Ultimate Mixed Company podcast, a mixed company fight,
- 12:12Speaker 3: and yeah.
- 12:13Speaker 6: Very fascinating stuff. You know that fight.
- 12:15Speaker 3: I didn't know how big boxing was in the UK
- 12:18Speaker 3: until that happened.
- 12:19Speaker 6: I've always heard about it. I know they fought when
- 12:21Speaker 6: we stadium and all that.
- 12:22Speaker 3: I didn't know until he came over here and the
- 12:25Speaker 3: fans invaded Vegs like they did. I never knew until that.
- 12:29Speaker 3: And now at that point, like, oh, this is different.
- 12:32Speaker 3: This is way different.
- 12:34Speaker 4: So in that establishment you're in, was it like fifty
- 12:36Speaker 4: to fifty Black fans and British fans or what would
- 12:38Speaker 4: you say?
- 12:39Speaker 3: Would you it was like seventy twenty brit first USA,
- 12:42Speaker 3: it was they invaded it and it's a lot you know,
- 12:46Speaker 3: this is on the strip, this is not on the
- 12:48Speaker 3: state line. This was this is a local area where
- 12:53Speaker 3: you know, residents go, and they invaded it, and it
- 12:56Speaker 3: was it was a very interesting place. The cops got involved,
- 12:59Speaker 3: pe would go to the hospital. Was it was nuts.
- 13:01Speaker 6: It was I'll never forget it.
- 13:02Speaker 3: I'll never forget it.
- 13:04Speaker 4: Then I went back and rewatched the fight, you know,
- 13:06Speaker 4: and also the crowd chanting. It's like a football stadium,
- 13:09Speaker 4: you know, those British chances that we all know about.
- 13:11Speaker 2: It was was there.
- 13:12Speaker 4: Actually Ricky hadn't started off really strong, you know, he
- 13:17Speaker 4: was aggressive, he landed some clean shots. Maybweather was wobbled
- 13:20Speaker 4: in like the first round. So it's very different from
- 13:24Speaker 4: when you see if a fight not really going your
- 13:27Speaker 4: guys's way, and then as it goes on, you're just
- 13:29Speaker 4: like nothing, he can't pull it off.
- 13:30Speaker 2: He can't pull it off. But I feel like that
- 13:33Speaker 2: the Bible was.
- 13:33Speaker 4: Like got you, Mayweather, got you, your assis grasped. And
- 13:38Speaker 4: then the vibe just kind of went downhill for for
- 13:42Speaker 4: the British fans because yeah, no early on, you know,
- 13:45Speaker 4: there are several rounds that could have gone easily to Ricky,
- 13:48Speaker 4: even for like a casual observer.
- 13:51Speaker 5: But yeah, and.
- 13:53Speaker 3: That's back from floor you used to give away a
- 13:54Speaker 3: couple of rounds at first, just to get the information
- 13:56Speaker 3: downloaded and whatnot, and then he from rounds four on
- 14:00Speaker 3: he would just take over.
- 14:02Speaker 2: So yep, yeah, that was definitely what what that fight
- 14:06Speaker 2: was like.
- 14:06Speaker 4: So but you know, shout out to the guy, you know,
- 14:09Speaker 4: shout out and then shout out to his fan base.
- 14:11Speaker 4: You know, they might have been agro assholes, but they're
- 14:13Speaker 4: passionate about the sport. And you know that's that's the
- 14:16Speaker 4: great thing about boxing is you get passionate about your fighter.
- 14:19Speaker 4: And we've said before, there's nothing like it. You know,
- 14:21Speaker 4: I've never ever felt I'm rooting for this NBA team
- 14:24Speaker 4: or this NFL team, and you know, they start losing
- 14:27Speaker 4: that feeling of watching your guy just slowly, you know,
- 14:32Speaker 4: lose on points.
- 14:32Speaker 2: As the fight goes on.
- 14:33Speaker 4: It's just it's devastating and it's just man, it's a
- 14:37Speaker 4: I've never experienced anything like it with any other sport.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Correct, So r I p Reriggiy Haddon.
- 14:45Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, shout out to British boxing fans and
- 14:47Speaker 4: shout out to the British for the British for drinking
- 14:49Speaker 4: a lot I.
- 14:52Speaker 3: Put it, Luis my guy, they make you look normal.
- 15:00Speaker 4: I went to London a few years ago and they
- 15:02Speaker 4: straight up said like, yeah, we just drink out on
- 15:04Speaker 4: the street.
- 15:04Speaker 2: You know, they'll give you to goat cups. Like I asked.
- 15:07Speaker 4: I always asked, like, what's the vibe here? You know,
- 15:09Speaker 4: public drinking. Some places are like, well you're not supposed to,
- 15:12Speaker 4: but you know we kind of could it. The Brits
- 15:14Speaker 4: were just like, man, you walk down the street just
- 15:16Speaker 4: drinking a bottle of whiskey, just chugging that shit. They
- 15:18Speaker 4: are not gonna even nobody's gonna be side.
- 15:20Speaker 2: They do not here.
- 15:21Speaker 4: So went to a pub that was so packed and
- 15:23Speaker 4: like it was so overflowed that they were just people
- 15:25Speaker 4: in the alley way, just groups of people hanging out
- 15:28Speaker 4: chatting with their drinks. And they're leaving like empty glasses
- 15:30Speaker 4: on the sidewalk for the bartenders to pick up. I
- 15:32Speaker 4: guess for the for the barbarks to come to get
- 15:35Speaker 4: They don't give a shit, right, Yeah.
- 15:38Speaker 2: It's a good time. Did not spend as much time
- 15:40Speaker 2: in London as I would have liked. It was less
- 15:41Speaker 2: than a week.
- 15:42Speaker 4: I wanted to I wanted to relax, so I'd spend
- 15:44Speaker 4: a few days in London just to kind of do
- 15:46Speaker 4: something different and then to spend a week in Dublin,
- 15:47Speaker 4: which is very very chilly.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Yeah, the Irish also, you know, also big fans of boxing.
- 15:53Speaker 2: But yeah, shout out to them, you know, shout out
- 15:55Speaker 2: to boxing being the greatest sport in the world. Every
- 15:58Speaker 2: country well has a boxer and every country has a
- 16:02Speaker 2: boxing fans. So this is why we do what we do.
- 16:05Speaker 4: Let's move on to the news. So the boxing world
- 16:08Speaker 4: was buzzing over the return of Manny Pacio in July.
- 16:11Speaker 4: We said that after Manny looked great in that fight,
- 16:14Speaker 4: after it ended in a draw, after he was ranked
- 16:16Speaker 4: the number one con contender in the WBC rankings, that
- 16:20Speaker 4: there's no way he wasn't coming back for another fight.
- 16:22Speaker 4: And you said, our man is probably gonna be back
- 16:24Speaker 4: for two or three more easy, easy, Easy. There's rumors
- 16:30Speaker 4: that he might fight twenty nine year old Roly Romero,
- 16:32Speaker 4: last seen defeating Ryan Garcia in a major upset earlier
- 16:35Speaker 4: this year. What do we think of this particular fight,
- 16:39Speaker 4: his chances, the level of excitement, you know how.
- 16:43Speaker 3: You feeling, was pat preparing himself and is in shape,
- 16:46Speaker 3: He's gonna be I I don't think Rolly is an
- 16:49Speaker 3: interesting guy because is Roly. You know, ROLLI makes the
- 16:53Speaker 3: fight interesting. But you know, Rolly is a guy. He's
- 16:57Speaker 3: he's not a stop gap because that's not fa. But
- 17:00Speaker 3: he's kind of like a journeyman with some talent. That's
- 17:02Speaker 3: basically I find the best way to describe. At this
- 17:04Speaker 3: point in his career. He'll get in there, he'll make
- 17:07Speaker 3: the fights fun, but we know eventually nine times attention
- 17:11Speaker 3: probably don't lose to an opponent that's better than him.
- 17:13Speaker 6: That's just how it goes. Pak Yah on the other end,
- 17:16Speaker 6: is interesting because if he fight, if he can look okay,
- 17:19Speaker 6: he's gonna be fighting for a while. I mean, one,
- 17:22Speaker 6: the way the economy is right now, I understand why
- 17:25Speaker 6: somebody is able to get millions. If you can get it,
- 17:27Speaker 6: I understand that that's just how it goes, how you
- 17:29Speaker 6: want to slice it, whether you think it's that good
- 17:31Speaker 6: bad or and different people won't get the bread. But secondly,
- 17:34Speaker 6: he's not disrespecting the sport and we could actually box.
- 17:38Speaker 6: I don't see a problem with it. And as long
- 17:40Speaker 6: as he makes decent fights, he's gonna keep fighting. I
- 17:43Speaker 6: don't see anything to say otherwise. I think we're gonna
- 17:46Speaker 6: keep seeing these and I'm not necessarily opposed to it.
- 17:50Speaker 6: As long as he looks like he did last time,
- 17:52Speaker 6: if not better, I think it's a good thing.
- 17:55Speaker 2: Sure.
- 17:56Speaker 4: I mean I said from the beginning when he was
- 17:58Speaker 4: coming back, and you know, sure might have rolled our
- 18:00Speaker 4: eyes a little bit, but I always said he's fighting
- 18:02Speaker 4: for a title like it is a legit fight. It's
- 18:04Speaker 4: not a show fake little showcase. It's not Pacchio versus
- 18:08Speaker 4: Evander Holyfield for five rounds, you know, in a showcase
- 18:12Speaker 4: for for money. You know, respect to him for that,
- 18:16Speaker 4: you know, definitely maybe not the not the best competition.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Bly is, this is a talented fighter, and I think
- 18:23Speaker 2: he was that win against Ryan Garcia farre and Square.
- 18:27Speaker 2: You know, he did a great job.
- 18:28Speaker 4: I don't think there was any controversy as to that
- 18:31Speaker 4: that decision there. But uh, you know, Manny is you
- 18:36Speaker 4: you said, I won't take your words. You said he
- 18:38Speaker 4: would have smart Roly and I agree one hundred percent.
- 18:41Speaker 4: Manny has the ring IQ. Roly got me by Tank,
- 18:43Speaker 4: who also has excellent ring IQ. I think that was
- 18:46Speaker 4: going to be the the designing factor. I think Tank
- 18:50Speaker 4: beat Roley, Roley beat Garcia, who has lower ring.
- 18:54Speaker 2: I Q than most people.
- 18:56Speaker 4: Both I think I think learned from his loss to
- 19:00Speaker 4: take right.
- 19:01Speaker 3: Right and quiet Kevin, Well, you brought that one up.
- 19:05Speaker 3: That wasn't a bad fight by ROI. Roly was actually
- 19:09Speaker 3: in that fight more than people want to admit. Like
- 19:11Speaker 3: Roly didn't fight a bad fight first take. He just
- 19:14Speaker 3: you know, got we got we walked into one. But
- 19:16Speaker 3: he wasn't fighting a bad fight at all.
- 19:19Speaker 2: No, And I'm glad he said that.
- 19:20Speaker 4: And that's something that I think we get caught up
- 19:23Speaker 4: in general. We're talking about this guy one decisively. You know,
- 19:25Speaker 4: we talked about Canella Crawford. We kept we kept talking
- 19:28Speaker 4: about Bud's win and how great he looked. And last
- 19:31Speaker 4: episode you said, it's not like Annello embarrassed himself. You know,
- 19:34Speaker 4: he lost, and that's okay. We kind of lose sight
- 19:36Speaker 4: of that. We always say, like this guy wanted we
- 19:38Speaker 4: just kind of, you know, right off the loser and
- 19:40Speaker 4: we just kind of treat him like he slept the
- 19:43Speaker 4: walk into the ring. But that's not the case. You know,
- 19:45Speaker 4: Yeah's Roly's talented. He just he met a guy that
- 19:48Speaker 4: was better than him. And that's okay.
- 19:50Speaker 2: You know shit happens.
- 19:51Speaker 4: The question is is he going to prepare for for
- 19:54Speaker 4: many his skills.
- 19:55Speaker 2: You know, we saw him, he looked good.
- 19:56Speaker 4: He did not look like prime Manny twenty years ago,
- 19:58Speaker 4: but then again, nobody did two years ago. Sou But yeah,
- 20:02Speaker 4: I mean, man, my man is gonna be his forty six,
- 20:05Speaker 4: maybe gonna be forty seven soon. So is it Can
- 20:09Speaker 4: he keep up with a twenty.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Nine year old Rolye Romero? That's kind of the question.
- 20:12Speaker 2: I don't know that we have an answer, but yeah.
- 20:15Speaker 3: It's a it's a good question. It's more about out
- 20:18Speaker 3: smarting him, because you're not going to keep up with
- 20:20Speaker 3: him active activity wise, that's not.
- 20:22Speaker 6: Gonna happen, but out smarting him is probably the best bet.
- 20:25Speaker 3: Those are the things where you got to hope that
- 20:28Speaker 3: he outsmarts him, and that's the interesting thing about that. However,
- 20:32Speaker 3: what I will say is this, if patia I was
- 20:37Speaker 3: training at a good level and stays healthy, that means
- 20:42Speaker 3: he's serious. He's not here just for the money. He's
- 20:44Speaker 3: actually taking the craft seriously, and I can respect that.
- 20:47Speaker 3: If he does that role, he's in trouble. Roy's gonna
- 20:49Speaker 3: have to fight the best fight he's ever fought, and
- 20:50Speaker 3: I don't know if he has that in him at
- 20:51Speaker 3: this point.
- 20:53Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I would have preferred a Tanker, a
- 20:55Speaker 4: Tail Lopez, Tailpim Lopez as competition. There definitely guy who
- 21:00Speaker 4: have a lot more better on their feet and definitely
- 21:04Speaker 4: probably could you know, tie around an old man many
- 21:07Speaker 4: because time time is no joke, no matter what, no
- 21:09Speaker 4: matter how good you are.
- 21:11Speaker 6: So a Tank Pack y'all fight does big numbers.
- 21:14Speaker 3: I don't think it does a football stadium, but it
- 21:15Speaker 3: definitely sells out wherever it's at. It would do big numbers.
- 21:20Speaker 3: I think Tank would you know, he would hurt Pack y'all,
- 21:23Speaker 3: but it would be big big, It would do big
- 21:25Speaker 3: numbers just based off of name and everything going on. However,
- 21:29Speaker 3: I'm glad you brought take. I know you've seen the
- 21:33Speaker 3: shenanigans with this fight. He's coming up with it. Don't
- 21:36Speaker 3: like guys in the boxing much longer, like a guy
- 21:39Speaker 3: that's kind of over it. And if that's the case,
- 21:43Speaker 3: if this is what we've seen outside this fight that's
- 21:46Speaker 3: coming up, he's at a hell of our career and
- 21:48Speaker 3: if he wants called quits, god bless him. But it
- 21:51Speaker 3: feels like a guy that is kind of like, I'm
- 21:53Speaker 3: done with this. I would I don't since a guy
- 21:56Speaker 3: say I'm ready to fight in twenty six. It gives
- 21:58Speaker 3: me the vibes of, hey know what, I was in
- 22:01Speaker 3: boxing for all these years, I'm not filling no more.
- 22:04Speaker 3: I'm going o my own way. If he wants them that,
- 22:05Speaker 3: then God bless him. But I'm getting those vibes.
- 22:09Speaker 5: I agree.
- 22:10Speaker 4: I said it on the show, you know, I said
- 22:12Speaker 4: that I think Tank's gonna dip after this fight with
- 22:16Speaker 4: what's his name, I don't know, I'll look it up later.
- 22:18Speaker 2: So there was I said, you know, he's not. He
- 22:22Speaker 2: didn't lose that much. Cashet.
- 22:24Speaker 4: Sure, you know, the the fight against the lot Roach
- 22:27Speaker 4: kind of exposed some weaknesses, but the interest in a
- 22:29Speaker 4: rematch was there. The interest in rematch was only there
- 22:33Speaker 4: because there was no interest in the first one. The
- 22:35Speaker 4: man could have still thought, you know, a couple of
- 22:37Speaker 4: elite opponents and still made maybe not as much money,
- 22:40Speaker 4: but you know, he wouldn't have gone home with pennies.
- 22:43Speaker 2: I do think that he's doing this as the last hurrah.
- 22:45Speaker 4: And yeah, based on you know, his attitude of press conferences,
- 22:49Speaker 4: just the way he's saying he doesn't take it seriously.
- 22:50Speaker 4: I think he said like literally asked like, when's the
- 22:53Speaker 4: fight again? And I thought, I don't think he was joking.
- 22:56Speaker 4: I don't think he was either. I think he's here
- 22:58Speaker 4: for the He's here for the money. And when you
- 23:01Speaker 4: everyone has a price. Everyone has a price. We've seen
- 23:05Speaker 4: it in sports, We've seen it in everything. Everyone has
- 23:08Speaker 4: a price. I don't know how much he's making.
- 23:12Speaker 3: I've seen a bunch of un confirmed reports, but he's
- 23:15Speaker 3: making anywhere more than fifty million dollars. And if he
- 23:19Speaker 3: has financial people around him that can make that fit
- 23:22Speaker 3: the last for a lifetime. I can't be mad at
- 23:25Speaker 3: him as a person as a boxing fantom cond disappointed,
- 23:28Speaker 3: but that's just as a fan, as a person that's
- 23:31Speaker 3: someone gonna give you fifty plus or one hundred million dollars,
- 23:33Speaker 3: then hey, do what you gotta do.
- 23:36Speaker 4: Well for my part, you know, I already said what
- 23:39Speaker 4: what I think of Tank Davis is that he has
- 23:41Speaker 4: dead to me. I said it before that if he
- 23:43Speaker 4: took this fight with the Paul clown like I'm out,
- 23:46Speaker 4: my man. You know that is disrespectful to your legacy,
- 23:49Speaker 4: that's disrespectful to the sport, and so I hope you
- 23:52Speaker 4: I I you know, enjoy, enjoy your cash and then
- 23:55Speaker 4: we'll see you in.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Fifteen years when you broke like Matti Peck.
- 23:57Speaker 3: Yeah, what is he What is his life legacy if
- 24:00Speaker 3: he retires after this, what is his boxing legacy?
- 24:04Speaker 4: I think I think legacy? How about this legacy is
- 24:10Speaker 4: bottom heavy? Like the way you go out? People just
- 24:14Speaker 4: people have recent spies. They're gonna remember what they last
- 24:16Speaker 4: saw you, you know, They're they're gonna see him as
- 24:20Speaker 4: as a guy who should have lost that roach fight.
- 24:23Speaker 4: They're gonna see him as a guy who fought an
- 24:25Speaker 4: unseerious fake boxer want to be boxer.
- 24:28Speaker 2: Sorry, And I think that's what people are gonna remember,
- 24:32Speaker 2: you know. And also Tank.
- 24:35Speaker 4: You know, he's one of the faces of the sport intea,
- 24:37Speaker 4: but he's not a big name like Canelos, like Mayweather was.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Uh, we are gonna remember, you know, the best the
- 24:44Speaker 2: best of times.
- 24:45Speaker 4: But I think I think he's gonna walk out of
- 24:47Speaker 4: here just kind of with his tail between his legs
- 24:49Speaker 4: and in the way.
- 24:49Speaker 2: Sorry, people are gonna see him as walking out.
- 24:51Speaker 4: Of the sport with his tail between his legs. My opinion, Yeah,
- 24:56Speaker 4: I think if he if he's because he said he
- 24:58Speaker 4: was going to retire. I think he said the beginning
- 25:00Speaker 4: of this year, end of less year that he was
- 25:02Speaker 4: retiring soon. I think if he regardless of that first
- 25:07Speaker 4: Broach fight, you know, things happen.
- 25:09Speaker 2: You know, I'm not going to hold that that draw
- 25:12Speaker 2: or that should have been lost against him, if that's
- 25:15Speaker 2: what you think. I won't. But you got to take
- 25:18Speaker 2: that damn rematch. You know, you have to.
- 25:20Speaker 4: Show up for the rematch and you have to fight one,
- 25:24Speaker 4: if not two more big names, you know, a tail
- 25:27Speaker 4: like an elite name, uh and walk out, you know,
- 25:30Speaker 4: with your head held hike damn it. You know, I
- 25:33Speaker 4: think this is really gonna gonna just kind of hurt
- 25:35Speaker 4: the the image of what Tank Davis was in.
- 25:39Speaker 2: People's eyes in my opinion. Fair enough, Yeah, I didn't
- 25:43Speaker 2: want it to be this way, Jamison.
- 25:45Speaker 3: And no, it's me. Hey, we're all in the same boat, man.
- 25:49Speaker 3: We wanted we wanted to see the thing about Boston
- 25:52Speaker 3: that makes it so dope because we've seen a lot
- 25:53Speaker 3: of these careers from when they were final undercard before
- 25:57Speaker 3: we heard them as like we heard them from somebody
- 25:59Speaker 3: else that they are underground and their up and comers
- 26:02Speaker 3: and all this to see them rise.
- 26:04Speaker 6: That's the beautiful thing about boxing. So all the great
- 26:07Speaker 6: fires that.
- 26:08Speaker 3: We've seen over the last twenty five years, I remember
- 26:11Speaker 3: them coming up on undercards. I remember hearing about them.
- 26:14Speaker 3: I remember hearing about Budd Crawford. I remember hearing about
- 26:17Speaker 3: Canel Alvarez. I remember hearing about all these guys. I
- 26:22Speaker 3: remember hearing about even It got to the point where
- 26:28Speaker 3: if you were on Golden Boy, if you're under that umbrella,
- 26:31Speaker 3: we saw you on all the undercards. That's just what
- 26:34Speaker 3: it was. They were actually one of the smartest motion
- 26:37Speaker 3: compis because they had all their up and comers fight
- 26:40Speaker 3: on the big dog cars, and that's how we got
- 26:42Speaker 3: to know them. But even even back before social media
- 26:46Speaker 3: got big, we heard people through the paper, through word
- 26:49Speaker 3: of mouth, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. And that
- 26:52Speaker 3: is something where it is tough because this is not
- 26:56Speaker 3: like that no more.
- 26:58Speaker 2: Well, and back to Canelo and his you know, he
- 27:01Speaker 2: lost to Beval, he lost to Terrence Crawford, both in
- 27:04Speaker 2: very very clear fashion. But also you know, he he
- 27:07Speaker 2: wasn't sleepwalking.
- 27:08Speaker 4: You know, sure, maybe some of the competition was an elite,
- 27:11Speaker 4: but you know, he's had his cachet look good. I
- 27:12Speaker 4: don't think that if Canelo ends up dipping after twenty
- 27:15Speaker 4: twenty six and his Riaz's advice that he it's going
- 27:18Speaker 4: to be the same thing for Tank. I mean, yeah,
- 27:20Speaker 4: he's gonna get clown for not taking the Bevo rematch,
- 27:22Speaker 4: and you know, get clown for not fighting Benavidez, which
- 27:26Speaker 4: but again, I I've always said that shouldn't have even
- 27:29Speaker 4: been a consideration for him because he is a little
- 27:30Speaker 4: guy that got beefy. I'll always go back to that.
- 27:32Speaker 4: And it's not even a matter of skill set. It's
- 27:35Speaker 4: a matter of you know, the kind of dude. You know,
- 27:38Speaker 4: if you're a little guy, it's always going to be
- 27:40Speaker 4: trouble fighting a big guy. David Benavidez is a big
- 27:43Speaker 4: guy period, So I think it's more, you know, comparing
- 27:49Speaker 4: that to Tank Davis. It's just the way it's, God
- 27:53Speaker 4: damn it. You saw the picture, like my man is
- 27:55Speaker 4: five five and you know, calls like they say six
- 27:58Speaker 4: to one.
- 27:58Speaker 2: I think it's five eleven. But you know, it's ridiculous.
- 28:01Speaker 3: Is like people don't understand they're looking at the height
- 28:03Speaker 3: and size and everything. If Tank hits that guy with
- 28:06Speaker 3: a real left hook. This whole shit is over, This
- 28:09Speaker 3: whole strade is over. All right, and you've boxed, you've
- 28:13Speaker 3: been in the ring. I've talked with enough boxers and
- 28:15Speaker 3: people in boxing the height and size and none of
- 28:17Speaker 3: that shit matters. If you get hit like the way
- 28:20Speaker 3: he hits, if you get hit with well, you know what.
- 28:23Speaker 3: Tank has power both hands. So the left foock is
- 28:25Speaker 3: always good to me. I like his lefvel, but just
- 28:27Speaker 3: in general, if Tank gets into one of them, it's over.
- 28:31Speaker 3: This whole shit is over.
- 28:33Speaker 6: I don't think that's gonna happen because I think this
- 28:35Speaker 6: is the whole thing is weird. But whatever.
- 28:38Speaker 3: But yeah, it's a.
- 28:39Speaker 6: Sham, like I hate. Yeah, it's a sham.
- 28:41Speaker 3: It's really a sham.
- 28:42Speaker 4: I'm not gonna go full on and say, you know
- 28:45Speaker 4: the fight is scripted or fixed or whatever. I'm not
- 28:47Speaker 4: gonna I'm not gonna say that. What I will say
- 28:49Speaker 4: is that I think if you.
- 28:50Speaker 2: Buy the ticket, ride the right, if you know you're
- 28:52Speaker 2: on a Jake.
- 28:53Speaker 4: Paul fight, and you know that you're gonna make somebody,
- 28:55Speaker 4: you know what side your bread is butter duck, and
- 28:58Speaker 4: I don't think you're gonna you know, I don't think
- 29:01Speaker 4: people are it's it is a smart business decision not
- 29:05Speaker 4: to embarrass that man on his own, you know, on
- 29:09Speaker 4: his territory.
- 29:09Speaker 3: It's his turf.
- 29:10Speaker 2: So that's kind of what I see it.
- 29:12Speaker 4: And you can say that like, well whatever, so legitifight
- 29:15Speaker 4: it's not fixed, that's fine, But there is something to
- 29:17Speaker 4: be said about what what we're really acting for here.
- 29:20Speaker 2: And and here's another thing that pisses me off.
- 29:23Speaker 4: You we know that Tanke said is all about the money,
- 29:26Speaker 4: but you know how he's made a lot of money
- 29:28Speaker 4: becoming an amazing elite fighter, like he put.
- 29:31Speaker 3: In the you want to see, you can make making
- 29:34Speaker 3: money in boxing is what it is. Becoming a draw
- 29:38Speaker 3: is a totally different conversation. He's one of the rare
- 29:41Speaker 3: guys that became a draw in this era that is
- 29:44Speaker 3: very difficult to do. Now. With that being said, he's
- 29:48Speaker 3: only been able to sell out black cities Baltimore, Atlanta, DC,
- 29:54Speaker 3: you know, so he's his market is better in those
- 29:57Speaker 3: places than others. However, with all that being said, he
- 30:00Speaker 3: is a huge drawing. People have paid pay per view
- 30:02Speaker 3: prices to watch him fight. Hell the last fight, well
- 30:06Speaker 3: one of the fights he had. Uh it was the
- 30:12Speaker 3: Spring of twenty three. I believe we bought it. It
- 30:17Speaker 3: was a fight that we bought on pay per views.
- 30:20Speaker 3: So those are the things where it's like, hey man,
- 30:23Speaker 3: that ain't for everybody. Not everybody gets eight dollars out
- 30:26Speaker 3: of beat. It just don't.
- 30:27Speaker 6: So those are things that we can He's taken for
- 30:31Speaker 6: granted and it's very unfortunate.
- 30:34Speaker 2: Yeah that that uh Spring of Tony three fight was
- 30:36Speaker 2: Brian Garcia.
- 30:36Speaker 5: Actually there you go that yep, yep, yeah, yeah.
- 30:41Speaker 3: And the only reason I bought it is I had
- 30:43Speaker 3: people over and we had the playoffs at the same time,
- 30:45Speaker 3: and there was a lot going on. So I just said,
- 30:47Speaker 3: figuring out out us buy the fight, and we were
- 30:49Speaker 3: watching it and it was like, dang, Tank is now
- 30:51Speaker 3: that guy where you get people buying pay per views.
- 30:55Speaker 6: It's very hard to do. Up until then, it was
- 30:58Speaker 6: really just Canelo.
- 30:59Speaker 3: Being the main eye that people readily bought pay per
- 31:03Speaker 3: views when he thought.
- 31:05Speaker 5: So.
- 31:06Speaker 2: I always mentioned the neighborhood sports bar here in Tucson
- 31:08Speaker 2: where I go to watch fights. There's actually two locations.
- 31:10Speaker 4: There's one in the ghetto, which I say livingly, and
- 31:12Speaker 4: one downtown, which is more of a club feel like
- 31:15Speaker 4: it's you know, it's it's upscale. I actually went to
- 31:18Speaker 4: see the Tank and Garcia fight at the Downtown One
- 31:21Speaker 4: for the first time. I hadn't done that, and it
- 31:23Speaker 4: was fact and there was actually a lot of Tank fan. Sure,
- 31:26Speaker 4: we're in Tucson, a lot of Mexicans here, so you know,
- 31:29Speaker 4: the crowd reaction for Ryan Garcia was definitely, you know,
- 31:32Speaker 4: higher louder, but there were a lot of.
- 31:35Speaker 2: People cheering for Tank.
- 31:36Speaker 4: And then the great thing about it is when Tank
- 31:38Speaker 4: not Ryan down, there was no booing, There was no like,
- 31:42Speaker 4: you know, like fuck you or any of that.
- 31:44Speaker 2: Everybody was just stoked.
- 31:45Speaker 4: Like everybody was just blown away by you know what
- 31:47Speaker 4: just happened. People were like clapping and cheering, like banging
- 31:50Speaker 4: the bar kind of a thing. It was just the
- 31:52Speaker 4: excitement of the fight took over and it wasn't like,
- 31:54Speaker 4: oh my guys down, It's just like.
- 31:56Speaker 2: Oh shit, that was so so exciting.
- 32:00Speaker 4: But yeah, so so that was That was a great
- 32:01Speaker 4: night too. That was that was a fantastic time watching
- 32:04Speaker 4: that fight out out in Mixed company. And yeah, there
- 32:07Speaker 4: was a guy with a Tech Davis T shirt and
- 32:09Speaker 4: I was like, they sell take Davis T shirts.
- 32:11Speaker 5: I want one. Oh yep, cool well man.
- 32:17Speaker 4: All right, another bit of news here that I want
- 32:19Speaker 4: to mention. You know, after Terrence Budd Crawford defeated Canil
- 32:22Speaker 4: Alvarez at one hundred and sixty eight pounds, I think
- 32:26Speaker 4: the day after something like that, Saudi promoter Turkey Ella
- 32:29Speaker 4: Shake wondered on Twitter if David Benavidez could still make
- 32:32Speaker 4: one sixty eight.
- 32:33Speaker 2: We remember that he went up to.
- 32:35Speaker 4: About one seventy five and was targeting the area. Benavidez
- 32:39Speaker 4: straight up said, now, man, I'm good, he said, led
- 32:42Speaker 4: Bud Crawford, you know, take one sixty eight.
- 32:44Speaker 2: That's his, that's his, that's his weight class. Now he dominates.
- 32:49Speaker 4: I want to focus on seventy five light heavyweight or
- 32:52Speaker 4: even cruiserweight or go higher.
- 32:54Speaker 2: What did I say? Benavide is a big guy. That's
- 32:56Speaker 2: probably where he's best suited. I don't know. I mean,
- 33:00Speaker 2: do you think this is a smart thing? I mean,
- 33:01Speaker 2: here here's the thing.
- 33:03Speaker 4: I don't I no shout out to Turkey Ella Shake,
- 33:07Speaker 4: because that man said, uh, during the Archer Better Biev
- 33:11Speaker 4: and Dimitri Bieble fight, he said, yeah, let's do Benavidez
- 33:14Speaker 4: with the winner of this one. Why not all hay Man,
- 33:16Speaker 4: you know, let's all get together and do this. He
- 33:18Speaker 4: said that into a microphone in front of a damn camera.
- 33:20Speaker 3: I heard it.
- 33:22Speaker 6: And then remember his job was making fights.
- 33:25Speaker 3: He don't He's just trying to whatever the biggest money
- 33:29Speaker 3: thing that can be done.
- 33:30Speaker 6: He's trying to do yes.
- 33:32Speaker 2: But then after the fight, hr after the fight, he said,
- 33:36Speaker 2: now we're good. I'm not that interested in Benavitez versus
- 33:39Speaker 2: p BO, like you just.
- 33:40Speaker 3: Live an issue though, did an issue? Because sir, now
- 33:43Speaker 3: everybody is talking to Turkey like that. There's been a
- 33:45Speaker 3: handful of guys that aren't really interested in doing business
- 33:48Speaker 3: with him forever. Reasons. They have everybody's reasons. They're different.
- 33:51Speaker 3: I'm not one to say someone's right or wrong. That's
- 33:54Speaker 3: that's above my pay. I think there's a few boxers
- 33:58Speaker 3: that have been like, you know what, I'm cool, I'm good.
- 34:02Speaker 3: So I understand that. And everybody has their own way
- 34:05Speaker 3: of doing things, because if you take that money, you
- 34:08Speaker 3: gotta do whatever they say. You can't do things in
- 34:10Speaker 3: your own time. You can't move up me to your
- 34:12Speaker 3: own drum. You gotta follow the rules. You gotta do
- 34:15Speaker 3: what they say, if you got to promote the fight
- 34:17Speaker 3: a certain ways, then shit, you gotta do that. If
- 34:19Speaker 3: they have you fight in Saudi Arabia, then shit, you
- 34:21Speaker 3: gotta hop on that plane and fight in Saudi Arabia.
- 34:23Speaker 3: That's just how it is. There's no way of getting
- 34:26Speaker 3: around it. And not everybody is with that. Most people
- 34:29Speaker 3: are because the money is big, but everybody is, Yeah,
- 34:34Speaker 3: that's fair.
- 34:34Speaker 4: I'm you know, I whatever the reasons for, you know,
- 34:38Speaker 4: the fight happening or not happening, you know. I think
- 34:40Speaker 4: I think Turkey Elishak was also ducking a Better Be
- 34:43Speaker 4: just fight for different reasons, for financial reasons whatever, looking
- 34:46Speaker 4: for bigger money and maybe.
- 34:48Speaker 2: A Better Be a People trilogy. But that's either here
- 34:51Speaker 2: nor there.
- 34:51Speaker 4: I think, you know, the question is, you know, is
- 34:54Speaker 4: we've been talking about poor Benavide, is you know, not
- 34:56Speaker 4: really getting the respect he deserves. I think I think
- 35:00Speaker 4: he made the right choice. I think he said him
- 35:02Speaker 4: saying that he's not gonna go back down to fight.
- 35:04Speaker 2: But I think that's good.
- 35:06Speaker 4: I think he should stick to the plan, be the
- 35:08Speaker 4: bigger guy, you know, sharpen his skills against other you know,
- 35:12Speaker 4: large beefy dudes.
- 35:14Speaker 2: He wants to fight people. He wants to fight mirrors.
- 35:16Speaker 2: He's fighting Anthony Yarde Yarda in November. So I think
- 35:20Speaker 2: it's good for him, you know.
- 35:21Speaker 4: Uh, I feel like I that man, I think is
- 35:24Speaker 4: gonna be a star just by fear, sheer, force of will,
- 35:28Speaker 4: because you know, he's been grinding, he's been not getting
- 35:31Speaker 4: a shot. The Ring magazine just put him on the
- 35:33Speaker 4: cover just like yesterday. You saw that on Instagram. So
- 35:37Speaker 4: I feel like that man is just gonna just gonna
- 35:39Speaker 4: get in your face and say you will respect me, damnit.
- 35:42Speaker 4: And I hope that the fan base really does really
- 35:45Speaker 4: really does it, because he is a talented fighter who
- 35:47Speaker 4: just kind of has been He's been uh he's been
- 35:50Speaker 4: written off or not not written off, he just hasn't.
- 35:53Speaker 2: Been given the respect he deserves, I think as a fighter.
- 35:56Speaker 4: So yeah, but uh, you know Pride of Pride of
- 36:00Speaker 4: Phoenix boxing, uh, David Benavida, So you know, I'm a fan.
- 36:04Speaker 4: I remember when when we saw I went to see
- 36:08Speaker 4: Canelo versus Williams Skull at the Neighborhood. I mentioned that
- 36:11Speaker 4: Turkiella Chick brought him in Crawford in the ring to
- 36:13Speaker 4: face off.
- 36:15Speaker 2: I was stoked. Guy next to me. He says, like,
- 36:17Speaker 2: who you think is gonna win? I said, honestly, I
- 36:19Speaker 2: don't know. I'm going back and forth.
- 36:21Speaker 3: He's like, I'm going.
- 36:21Speaker 4: Crawford, Man, I hate Canelo. I'm Crawford and Bud and
- 36:24Speaker 4: Benavitez are my.
- 36:25Speaker 2: Guys I hate.
- 36:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 36:27Speaker 4: I was like, all right, you know, I wasn't mad
- 36:30Speaker 4: at that, you know, so I kind of hope that
- 36:34Speaker 4: no disrespect to to Canelo and his legacy, but you
- 36:37Speaker 4: know his he said, he's.
- 36:38Speaker 2: On his way out.
- 36:38Speaker 4: You know, he's not the guy anymore. I think the
- 36:41Speaker 4: next big name in Mexican boxing should be David Benavidez,
- 36:45Speaker 4: and I think the fans should show up for him.
- 36:47Speaker 2: I like to do for for my boy Canelo.
- 36:49Speaker 3: Yep.
- 36:49Speaker 2: That's just my my take on it. So anyway, and
- 36:53Speaker 2: just another quick note, I don't have a lot.
- 36:55Speaker 4: To say on this right now because it is a
- 36:56Speaker 4: ways away, but Shaker Stevenson and Tailfei malpees Uh period
- 37:00Speaker 4: to be fighting in January of twenty twenty six, as
- 37:02Speaker 4: Sugar actually brought it up when he was a guest
- 37:05Speaker 4: commentator over the weekend in Overtime Boxing. So h yeah,
- 37:08Speaker 4: all I really want to say is like vitally, an exciting,
- 37:11Speaker 4: you know, an exciting matchup between these guys at that level.
- 37:14Speaker 2: You know, people just get.
- 37:15Speaker 3: Take a retangle. Man, you only offer the contract so
- 37:17Speaker 3: many times. You're going to go back and forth so
- 37:20Speaker 3: many times. I think it's gonna be held in the York.
- 37:24Speaker 6: I think, I.
- 37:26Speaker 2: Think I didn't hear either way, I wouldn't known.
- 37:28Speaker 6: Okay, okay, got it.
- 37:30Speaker 3: I want to say it's gonna be New York because
- 37:32Speaker 3: there I know Stevenson's from New Jersey. He's out there
- 37:35Speaker 3: most of the time. But wherever it's at a long
- 37:37Speaker 3: we get it, and we get it. That's gonna be
- 37:39Speaker 3: another mixed company pot, another mixed company fight. Interesting fight,
- 37:45Speaker 3: very interesting. That's basically the one that's gonna separate who's
- 37:48Speaker 3: who because both guys have big brands and big names,
- 37:52Speaker 3: and you know, that's a very fun fight. So yeah,
- 37:56Speaker 3: I can't wait.
- 37:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean tales from Brooklyn, we're from you. I
- 38:00Speaker 2: think he's from Brooklyn. So his and his.
- 38:01Speaker 4: People, his folks come out, you know New York Puerto Ricans,
- 38:04Speaker 4: you know, they came out, and so people from Jersey
- 38:07Speaker 4: coming out for Sikor.
- 38:08Speaker 2: It's not a it's not a long way to travel.
- 38:11Speaker 4: So I think that's gonna be even if there's not
- 38:14Speaker 4: a lot of people that know these two guys super well,
- 38:17Speaker 4: I think the hype is going to be as we
- 38:19Speaker 4: get closer, I think it's gonna get some more eyeballs
- 38:22Speaker 4: on it. I think just the excitement for the fight.
- 38:25Speaker 4: This is me my prediction, you.
- 38:26Speaker 2: Know, whatever, for months away or whatever where we're at,
- 38:29Speaker 2: I think that fight is going to get a lot
- 38:32Speaker 2: of buzz.
- 38:32Speaker 3: And if you put that fight in Brooklyn or in
- 38:35Speaker 3: the Garden, it does numbers.
- 38:36Speaker 6: It's a huge buzz. It's in January, which is perfect.
- 38:40Speaker 3: Yeah. I like it a lot. I like a whole lot.
- 38:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm very excited about it. And you know, let's
- 38:45Speaker 2: just hope that that's a good way to start twenty
- 38:47Speaker 2: twenty six when it comes to the boxing game.
- 38:50Speaker 3: So yep, all.
- 38:51Speaker 4: Right, let's move on to our recurring segment called pop Pugilism,
- 38:55Speaker 4: where we discuss a movie, TV show.
- 38:57Speaker 2: Or documentary about boxing.
- 38:58Speaker 4: Today, we're gonna we're gonna go a little loose with it. Admittedly,
- 39:01Speaker 4: we're talking about a movie that is not about boxing,
- 39:03Speaker 4: but the sport features very heavily in the plot. I
- 39:06Speaker 4: It was my idea, just because I thought it'd be
- 39:08Speaker 4: fun to talk about it. And I have a lot
- 39:09Speaker 4: to say about, you know, boxing in the nineties. But
- 39:11Speaker 4: we were talking about Snake Eyes from nineteen ninety eight,
- 39:15Speaker 4: directed by Brandon Palmer.
- 39:17Speaker 2: I got a DVD. I have the four K U H.
- 39:20Speaker 2: D Jamison shows.
- 39:21Speaker 3: Some respect problems.
- 39:23Speaker 2: But then your deaf DVD? Are you kidding me?
- 39:26Speaker 4: WI four K from Keno Larbert just released recently. So
- 39:30Speaker 4: I actually I saw this movie when I was a kid.
- 39:33Speaker 4: I didn't remember much about it or even if I
- 39:35Speaker 4: liked it or not. I remember boxing was involved, and
- 39:38Speaker 4: I figured once I once I gave the Discus spin,
- 39:40Speaker 4: I was like, hey what. I also was like, well,
- 39:42Speaker 4: it's on sale. You know, even if it's not that
- 39:44Speaker 4: great whatever, I support physical media. It's gonna look good.
- 39:47Speaker 4: I have a giant TV.
- 39:48Speaker 3: You forced me to watch a Nick Kge movie. All right, man,
- 39:52Speaker 3: it is what it is, you know, it is what
- 39:54Speaker 3: it is. I'm not gonna hold it against you, but nah,
- 39:57Speaker 3: it was so.
- 39:58Speaker 2: Boxing has been a part of of a lot.
- 40:01Speaker 3: Of movies, coming back to think of it, even the
- 40:03Speaker 3: first Oceans eleven, like you know what I mean? Like
- 40:06Speaker 3: so when I'm watching that's what it kind of felt like.
- 40:08Speaker 3: I gave those kind of vibes away. So, you know,
- 40:10Speaker 3: that's a boxing in the ninety So we were both
- 40:14Speaker 3: young in the nineties obviously, but boxing in the nineties.
- 40:19Speaker 6: Was way different the vibe.
- 40:22Speaker 3: We didn't have social media, which was probably a good
- 40:24Speaker 3: thing because it feels like with social media, boxing and
- 40:30Speaker 3: everything has lost of us luster. It just doesn't feel
- 40:33Speaker 3: the same because people are there, people were around the city,
- 40:38Speaker 3: et cetera, et cetera. When all we had was newspapers
- 40:40Speaker 3: and local news and sports in there and whatnot, it
- 40:43Speaker 3: felt like a huge event because you didn't know all
- 40:45Speaker 3: this stuff. You didn't know anything. We didn't have access
- 40:48Speaker 3: to all these people who would be there. We didn't
- 40:51Speaker 3: have TikTok that would have all these people going to fight.
- 40:54Speaker 6: We didn't have any of that stuff.
- 40:55Speaker 3: So the invent was so much more because you had
- 40:59Speaker 3: to pay attention to it. There was no other way
- 41:01Speaker 3: of finding out regarding it. So, yeah, it was it
- 41:05Speaker 3: was interesting.
- 41:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I you know, except this movie came out an idea.
- 41:10Speaker 4: You and I were the same age. We were both
- 41:11Speaker 4: born in eighty six, and back then, you know, watching
- 41:14Speaker 4: this movie as a kid, it didn't even like strike me.
- 41:18Speaker 4: It didn't even phase me that this entire movie took
- 41:21Speaker 4: place during a boxing match in a boxing arena.
- 41:24Speaker 2: Nowadays, I'm like, that wouldn't happen.
- 41:26Speaker 4: It's a crime thriller, an assassination occurs the night of
- 41:30Speaker 4: a boxing match of secretary of defense. I don't see,
- 41:35Speaker 4: you know, a movie these days, having a talkie talk thriller,
- 41:38Speaker 4: you know, crime flitter, or any or an action movie
- 41:40Speaker 4: involving boxing at all these days, if there's a movie
- 41:44Speaker 4: around boxing, it's about a fighter.
- 41:46Speaker 3: You know.
- 41:47Speaker 4: It really made me feel just like how everybody knew
- 41:52Speaker 4: about boxing, about fights, and this might be me as
- 41:55Speaker 4: a kid, you know, misjudging it. That's just kind of
- 41:56Speaker 4: how I felt, you know. I we also grew up
- 41:58Speaker 4: very differently from Mexican family. I can't tell you when
- 42:02Speaker 4: I learned what the super Bowl was.
- 42:04Speaker 2: Honestly, I got you.
- 42:05Speaker 3: I got you.
- 42:06Speaker 4: Yeah, but we I always knew, you know that mega
- 42:08Speaker 4: fights happened, you know that Hunosis and then.
- 42:10Speaker 2: Alio was fighting, like that was just a part of
- 42:12Speaker 2: my jelhen.
- 42:16Speaker 6: Oh, but it go ahead ahead, I don't want to
- 42:17Speaker 6: cut you off, my bad.
- 42:18Speaker 4: No, No, I was just gonna say that, Like, you know,
- 42:21Speaker 4: this really harkened back to a time that it.
- 42:23Speaker 2: Watching the movie kind.
- 42:24Speaker 4: Of made me realize just how differently my brain works
- 42:27Speaker 4: now with boxing, and how differently like the world sees
- 42:31Speaker 4: that the country sees it.
- 42:31Speaker 3: You know.
- 42:32Speaker 4: Help the fight was in Atlantic City, like was the
- 42:34Speaker 4: last time that there was a mega fight in Atlantic City?
- 42:36Speaker 3: Yeah, it's funny you mentioned that because back then, back
- 42:39Speaker 3: in the eighties and early nineties, that was a spot
- 42:42Speaker 3: because you know, Trump owned them hotels and he had
- 42:45Speaker 3: a lot of fights there.
- 42:46Speaker 6: Tyson fought there a lot, you know, all.
- 42:49Speaker 3: People from New York and Philly and all that would
- 42:51Speaker 3: always drive over there, so it was a thing. However,
- 42:55Speaker 3: those properties kind of went belly up and all the
- 42:57Speaker 3: fights kind of came out this way.
- 43:00Speaker 6: And that's just how it went.
- 43:02Speaker 3: But now it was a being in the eighties.
- 43:05Speaker 6: For sure, There's a lot of fights out there in
- 43:07Speaker 6: the eighties and early nineties, but once Vegas took over,
- 43:10Speaker 6: it is what it was, what it was.
- 43:13Speaker 4: Yeah, that was one of those things that I knew
- 43:15Speaker 4: but forgot when they said, you know, oh, and the
- 43:17Speaker 4: fight in the movie is between a black guy and
- 43:19Speaker 4: a Mexican guy not for nothing, you know, very much
- 43:22Speaker 4: a mixed company fight. And when they said you know
- 43:24Speaker 4: it takes place in Atlantic City, like my mind was blown.
- 43:26Speaker 4: I was like, oh, right, that used to be the spot,
- 43:30Speaker 4: but it's been so long that it just it was
- 43:33Speaker 4: It was really it was kind of like it was
- 43:34Speaker 4: like stepping back into time machine.
- 43:36Speaker 3: You know.
- 43:38Speaker 4: Another thing too, that is very prominent in the movie
- 43:41Speaker 4: is the sport is straight up portrayed as corrupt.
- 43:44Speaker 2: You know, guys paid to take a dive. It's part
- 43:47Speaker 2: of the assassination plot.
- 43:48Speaker 4: We know boxing well, you know, it's one of them,
- 43:50Speaker 4: always been one of the most corrupt sports in the world.
- 43:52Speaker 4: But I'm curious your take on at that time in
- 43:55Speaker 4: the nineties, was that the kind of vibe the people
- 43:58Speaker 4: the general public had that they see it as kind
- 43:59Speaker 4: of a thirty money sport or is that something that
- 44:02Speaker 4: kind of came later.
- 44:03Speaker 3: Absolutely, No, It's always been there because there's always controversial
- 44:06Speaker 3: decisions that took took place, just like it does now.
- 44:09Speaker 3: It's even the big fight that we just had, Like
- 44:12Speaker 3: you can argue that some of the scorecards for a while,
- 44:16Speaker 3: Like that's just it's always been like that. It's never
- 44:18Speaker 3: gonna change for a variety of reasons. But yeah, back
- 44:21Speaker 3: then though, we only had a couple of media people.
- 44:23Speaker 3: So if the three people covering the fight all said
- 44:26Speaker 3: the same thing, then that's what it was. If all
- 44:29Speaker 3: three people said, hey, something's not right, then we just
- 44:31Speaker 3: took it for that and moved on. Now you've got
- 44:34Speaker 3: thousands of people with articles, podcasts, newspapers, et cetera, having
- 44:39Speaker 3: different type of opinions about what took place, so you're
- 44:43Speaker 3: not also keyed in on this conspiracy. But back in
- 44:47Speaker 3: the day, when you had a main write for your newspaper,
- 44:50Speaker 3: maybe a main local newsperson, and then like an ESPN,
- 44:55Speaker 3: CNN Sports or Fox Sports covering it, then yeah you're
- 44:59Speaker 3: gonna get You get five opinions and they're all file
- 45:02Speaker 3: the same with them.
- 45:02Speaker 6: That's just what it was.
- 45:05Speaker 2: That's fair. Yeah, I mean again, I keep going back
- 45:08Speaker 2: to it, like stepping in a time machine. Yeah, just it.
- 45:11Speaker 2: It is so cool.
- 45:12Speaker 4: You know in the movie, the Secretary of Defense is
- 45:15Speaker 4: at the fight, and I was like, that would make
- 45:17Speaker 4: sense for the nineties like that. I wouldn't have been
- 45:20Speaker 4: a night if I went literally got into time machine
- 45:22Speaker 4: and went back and they're saying like, oh, all these
- 45:24Speaker 4: government officials, you know.
- 45:26Speaker 2: At a major fight that would be weird at all.
- 45:29Speaker 4: What was interesting, what made me think of was Canello
- 45:33Speaker 4: Cruft fight was on Netflix and there was a ton
- 45:35Speaker 4: of celebrities there, tons of celebrities.
- 45:38Speaker 2: But part of me was.
- 45:39Speaker 4: Also like, hey are you there because you have a
- 45:42Speaker 4: Netflix show and you got in you know, so.
- 45:46Speaker 3: That fight was interesting. They gave a lot of credentials
- 45:48Speaker 3: away and that was a lot of people, a lot
- 45:51Speaker 3: of cleve because when you got a stadium that can
- 45:53Speaker 3: fit seventy thousand, you can air more fifteen hundred.
- 45:57Speaker 6: Seats for celebs and famous people.
- 45:59Speaker 3: It's a lot to do it in a seventy thousands
- 46:01Speaker 3: stadium than a twenty thousand seas stadium. So way either, so,
- 46:05Speaker 3: anyone that had ties to not just Netflix, but eive
- 46:09Speaker 3: you had a podcast or a movie, if you were
- 46:12Speaker 3: any con celebrity, they can't. They brought you out around
- 46:16Speaker 3: Wednesday or Thursday. You kind of did their radio row
- 46:19Speaker 3: and then you went to the fight.
- 46:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 46:23Speaker 4: I wonder how many of those folks there actually really
- 46:26Speaker 4: really follow boxing or care about it. And I'm not
- 46:28Speaker 4: trying to get keep this sport or anything or gate
- 46:30Speaker 4: key fandom, not like you're not a real fan.
- 46:33Speaker 2: I'm just generally saying, like, this is a major event,
- 46:36Speaker 2: something cool.
- 46:36Speaker 4: You're on TV. You know, you got probably got set
- 46:39Speaker 4: up by the by the promotional company.
- 46:42Speaker 2: But you know, how much were you really really invested
- 46:44Speaker 2: in the fight?
- 46:45Speaker 6: It was more than a fight.
- 46:47Speaker 3: It was one of the few boxing events that actually
- 46:49Speaker 3: became more than boxing. It is the Oh, this is
- 46:54Speaker 3: a regular event. This is not a boxing match. This
- 46:57Speaker 3: is a regular current event. So you get all the
- 47:00Speaker 3: type of people who are there for different reasons, not
- 47:02Speaker 3: necessarily boxing fans. Hell, there's people who've probably only seen
- 47:06Speaker 3: to Terrence Crawford fights there, you know what I mean.
- 47:09Speaker 3: I just be honest with you.
- 47:10Speaker 6: A lot of people haven't outside of the Spence fight,
- 47:12Speaker 6: a lot of people who haven't seen.
- 47:14Speaker 3: Bud fight a lot of fights, not like us, Like
- 47:16Speaker 3: I've seen Bud fight twenty to thirty fights at minimum.
- 47:20Speaker 3: So it's one of those things where we are different
- 47:24Speaker 3: because we love boxing. Most people are there get their
- 47:26Speaker 3: picture taken to get a free room, free tickets to
- 47:29Speaker 3: the fight, and enjoy Vegas for a weekend.
- 47:33Speaker 2: Yeah, and I'm sure that there's a lot of people
- 47:35Speaker 2: to do that. For other things.
- 47:36Speaker 4: I mean, I don't know if celebrity can get into
- 47:38Speaker 4: like a Taylor social, let's say in Vegas or New York,
- 47:40Speaker 4: you know.
- 47:41Speaker 6: For the whole same thing, super Bowl, same thing, Final Four,
- 47:44Speaker 6: same thing.
- 47:46Speaker 3: This is how it goes like. And again, this fight
- 47:49Speaker 3: was different. This was not a regular boxing match, This
- 47:51Speaker 3: was a this was an event. This was a first
- 47:54Speaker 3: boxing match inellegiate stadium. This was a different event. And
- 48:00Speaker 3: I can't I don't think it will happen, but I'm
- 48:03Speaker 3: not opposed to a rematch if they decided to do
- 48:06Speaker 3: it again.
- 48:07Speaker 6: I don't think it's going to happen, but what not
- 48:09Speaker 6: mind them running it back.
- 48:11Speaker 4: I The more time we spend away from the fight,
- 48:14Speaker 4: the more I also think it will not happen.
- 48:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 48:15Speaker 4: I was on the record last episode saying I really
- 48:18Speaker 4: really wanted it, but I'm kind of just had to
- 48:20Speaker 4: getting myself into the mindset of well that's probably You're
- 48:23Speaker 4: probably enjoyed the moment for what it was, and won't we.
- 48:26Speaker 2: Won't have it again.
- 48:27Speaker 4: But but yeah, you know, getting back to the movie
- 48:30Speaker 4: was super cool.
- 48:31Speaker 2: I think to see.
- 48:34Speaker 4: The whole story take place around something that I love.
- 48:37Speaker 4: You know, it took place around, and I'm sure it's like,
- 48:39Speaker 4: you know, I don't know if there's a movie around,
- 48:42Speaker 4: you know, an action movie takes place a comic con.
- 48:44Speaker 2: You know, there's a lot of people that are gonna
- 48:45Speaker 2: be like, yeah, this is my life, this is what
- 48:48Speaker 2: I love, this kind of thing. So it's always nice
- 48:50Speaker 2: to see your your interest represented.
- 48:52Speaker 4: And something that literally didn't have anything didn't have to
- 48:54Speaker 4: be at a boxing batch. You know, this story, Like
- 48:56Speaker 4: I said, assassination plot, conspiracy, political intrigue have been anywhere.
- 49:01Speaker 3: No, Yeah, big boxing nights were different because also I
- 49:05Speaker 3: got a member. Not everybody have the funds for pay
- 49:07Speaker 3: per view back in the day, either spending fifty bucks
- 49:09Speaker 3: for a pay per V fight back in the nineties,
- 49:12Speaker 3: that was. That was for everybody. That was not for
- 49:17Speaker 3: nah nah man. That was you had to have whoever
- 49:22Speaker 3: had the fight either had a legal cable or them
- 49:24Speaker 3: people have money somehow some way. It wasn't no, ay,
- 49:28Speaker 3: let's get this. So the idea of a fight weekend
- 49:31Speaker 3: in Vegas was very intriguing. It was really cool because
- 49:35Speaker 3: all of us always heard that Vegas on the fight
- 49:38Speaker 3: weekend is nothing better. It's the weekend. Everything's cool. Everybody's
- 49:42Speaker 3: out there having fun, the fight, the apt everything. So
- 49:46Speaker 3: just with that being said, there's an image in your
- 49:49Speaker 3: head that, ay, we gotta be there, we gotta be there.
- 49:52Speaker 6: Everybody has that image. So yeah, no, no doubt, no doubt.
- 49:56Speaker 3: All.
- 49:57Speaker 2: Yeah, that reminds you. One funny thing that happened. The
- 50:00Speaker 2: details don't matter, but you know, Carla Gugino.
- 50:04Speaker 4: Was supposed to drop off some secret documents to the
- 50:06Speaker 4: Secretary of Defense and they were communicating in secret, and
- 50:10Speaker 4: she said, oh, the tickery Defense told me to just
- 50:12Speaker 4: bring the documents to the fight.
- 50:13Speaker 2: And I was like, so I told you to just
- 50:15Speaker 2: spend what six nine.
- 50:16Speaker 4: Hundred dollars six eight hundred dollars to bring the documents,
- 50:19Speaker 4: Like you can't.
- 50:20Speaker 2: Just do that?
- 50:21Speaker 4: Be me in the parking lot, Like, yeah, Carla Gugino's
- 50:23Speaker 4: dropped almost a thousand bucks to meet me at this fight.
- 50:26Speaker 4: That was one of those things around like, knowing what
- 50:30Speaker 4: we know about boxing, I was gonna ignore that. But
- 50:33Speaker 4: but that's you know, I'm sure there's a lot of
- 50:36Speaker 4: a lot of movies that are about baseball, that are
- 50:38Speaker 4: about football that real you know, big fans that know,
- 50:41Speaker 4: they just know, they're just kind of totally ridiculous and unrealistic.
- 50:45Speaker 4: But anyway, yeah, I mean, you know, we're not really
- 50:49Speaker 4: talking much about the movie itself, but whatever, you know,
- 50:51Speaker 4: it's I think, like I said, it'd make a fun
- 50:53Speaker 4: conversation about boxing in its heyday and you know a
- 50:56Speaker 4: time that it's never going to be like that again.
- 50:58Speaker 4: And I hate, I hate to be the old man
- 51:01Speaker 4: of you know, back in my day. They don't make
- 51:04Speaker 4: them like they used to. But literally, literally the sport
- 51:09Speaker 4: is not like.
- 51:10Speaker 2: It was in so many ways went from when we
- 51:12Speaker 2: were kids.
- 51:13Speaker 3: They can get there, though they can, I don't know
- 51:15Speaker 3: if it will, it can get there. The reason why
- 51:17Speaker 3: I say that is we have a lot of boxers,
- 51:19Speaker 3: We have a lot of actual boxers, but we got
- 51:23Speaker 3: to get to knowing who they are. We have to
- 51:26Speaker 3: actually market them, and they gotta fight way more than
- 51:29Speaker 3: they have been over the.
- 51:31Speaker 6: Last ten fifteen years.
- 51:34Speaker 3: We can get back. Then.
- 51:35Speaker 6: We have a lot of fighters that are popular and famous.
- 51:38Speaker 3: But you can't fight once every thirteen months, talking about
- 51:41Speaker 3: oh I want ten million dollars for no, no, no, we.
- 51:45Speaker 2: Can't fight once every thirteen months and need more access. Again,
- 51:49Speaker 2: We're still still sitting here twiddling our damn thumbs figure
- 51:53Speaker 2: out where.
- 51:53Speaker 4: Top rank is going to be. You know, now, yeah,
- 51:57Speaker 4: in a way fight that they had a couple of
- 51:59Speaker 4: weekends go. You know that one was in the middle
- 52:02Speaker 4: of the night because it was in Tokyo. So I've
- 52:03Speaker 4: caught up on it on YouTube anyway, which is fine,
- 52:06Speaker 4: Like that's the fight that I wouldn't have been able
- 52:08Speaker 4: to watch unless I stayed up till three thirty.
- 52:09Speaker 2: In the morning, four in the morning, whatever. But what
- 52:13Speaker 2: about the Saturday night fights? Are that going to be
- 52:15Speaker 2: live on YouTube?
- 52:17Speaker 3: We need Saturday night fights, we need Honestly, I've been
- 52:20Speaker 3: harping this for a long time. And this is from
- 52:22Speaker 3: somebody used to work in box that told me he
- 52:24Speaker 3: was like, every summer that goes by, where they don't
- 52:27Speaker 3: flood the TV with boxing because they wasted summer. He
- 52:31Speaker 3: was like, summer is the downtime of all sports. There's
- 52:34Speaker 3: a lot of TV windows open. They should be flooding
- 52:37Speaker 3: every weekend with boxing. UFC does it. UFC has so
- 52:41Speaker 3: many events over the summer. And I'm not a UFC guy.
- 52:45Speaker 3: I don't hate it. It's just not for me like that.
- 52:47Speaker 3: But I appreciate what they do, Like they put their
- 52:49Speaker 3: bodys on along. They do what they do, they get it. Boxing,
- 52:53Speaker 3: for whatever reason, still have a hard time understanding what
- 52:58Speaker 3: makes sense until that out.
- 53:00Speaker 6: We're gonna keep all stuff on our TOBE.
- 53:02Speaker 4: Sure, well, at least we'll have movies like Snake Gyes
- 53:06Speaker 4: that will bring you know, that that nostalgia back. And
- 53:09Speaker 4: you know, we're talking about the commentators that were that
- 53:11Speaker 4: they had back then. One of them is the amazing
- 53:13Speaker 4: Al Bernstein, who was a guest on our show a
- 53:16Speaker 4: couple of episodes back.
- 53:17Speaker 2: Yeah, so could check out episode twenty four to listen
- 53:22Speaker 2: to that and amazing interview.
- 53:24Speaker 4: We were also discussing the Canilla Crawford, but he talked
- 53:27Speaker 4: a lot about the state of boxing today in the
- 53:29Speaker 4: future of it, so that one is.
- 53:29Speaker 2: Also very timely.
- 53:31Speaker 5: You know.
- 53:31Speaker 4: Awesome guy, awesome interview, A just a legend, so we
- 53:35Speaker 4: were lucky to have him. Yeah, you know, Snake Guys
- 53:39Speaker 4: directed by Briandon to Palmer, one of the greats. If
- 53:41Speaker 4: somebody wants to call him the goat, you know, I
- 53:43Speaker 4: might not argue. There's a lot of great movies.
- 53:46Speaker 2: Well, how would you rate this film out of four gloves? Jamison?
- 53:50Speaker 6: It was like a two point seven five.
- 53:54Speaker 2: I appreciate that.
- 53:55Speaker 4: No, I was, I was thinking two point five, but
- 53:57Speaker 4: you know, just so I don't have to just the
- 54:00Speaker 4: graphics on the scores, I'm gonna go two points of
- 54:02Speaker 4: five as well. No, it was fun. I you know what,
- 54:08Speaker 4: I guess said. I didn't remember a lot about it.
- 54:10Speaker 4: I don't remember if I liked it or not. I
- 54:12Speaker 4: feel like I I appreciated more than.
- 54:14Speaker 2: I did as a kid for a lot of reasons.
- 54:17Speaker 2: You know.
- 54:18Speaker 4: Definitely, it's it's one of those flicks that, like, I
- 54:21Speaker 4: think it. It's not Brian DePalma's best by any means,
- 54:24Speaker 4: but it holds up, holds the test of time. If
- 54:26Speaker 4: it's on sale from Keno Larber Classics, you could pick
- 54:30Speaker 4: up the four K or the Blu Ray. I'm a
- 54:32Speaker 4: physical media guy, so if you watch us on YouTube,
- 54:35Speaker 4: you'll see the beautiful artwork on this right.
- 54:38Speaker 2: So yeah, shout out to uh to Brian de Palma,
- 54:41Speaker 2: one of the great. So everybody, thanks for listening.
- 54:44Speaker 5: Jamison.
- 54:44Speaker 2: Where can people find you on social media?
- 54:46Speaker 3: On Twitter? Atterew Jamison. Yeah, be on there for next
- 54:50Speaker 3: Fight Night in October, I think, and then we will
- 54:52Speaker 3: go from there.
- 54:53Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely October.
- 54:54Speaker 4: Boots is coming back in October and David Benavidez in November,
- 54:57Speaker 4: so you know, pretty pretty good year for boxing.
- 55:00Speaker 2: Latter half.
- 55:01Speaker 4: I think I think it's picking up after the summer,
- 55:04Speaker 4: so we'll see how how these fights go. You can
