- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:05Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus after ten yard lives. Second to day three
- 0:08Speaker 1: wide receivers now in motion, has Pumpas left or right,
- 0:12Speaker 1: Julius Jones a single setback Matt Pumpfe's looking at the
- 0:14Speaker 1: goal line. He throws it into the end zone. Touchdown Seahawks.
- 0:18Speaker 1: It's Michael Bumpas with a diving catching the end zone.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Our ten yard touchdown reception for Pampas and the kid
- 0:26Speaker 1: out of Washington State has found himself a place on
- 0:29Speaker 1: this team. Powered by Seahawks dot Com. One of twelve.
- 0:35Speaker 1: This is Michael Bumps and this is Hawk Talk Recab edition.
- 0:39Speaker 1: The Seahawks fall to the Rams twenty three to six,
- 0:43Speaker 1: being not the result that we won a NASA chobe.
- 0:46Speaker 1: But before we get into everything, we're gonna start it
- 0:49Speaker 1: off like we usually do on a recab edition, going
- 0:52Speaker 1: into trenches with Ray Roberts. It's time to go inside
- 0:58Speaker 1: the trenches with former Seahawk Ray Roberts. Big Ray, what's
- 1:05Speaker 1: going on there? I'm just killing man, trying to uh
- 1:08Speaker 1: recover from that from that loss yesterday. Comfort laws. Aren't
- 1:13Speaker 1: we all first impressions when you think about this Seahawks
- 1:17Speaker 1: versus the Rams game, what's the first thing that comes
- 1:19Speaker 1: to mind? The first thing that comes to mind for me,
- 1:23Speaker 1: it's just just joint it. It just it just really
- 1:26Speaker 1: felt like there was no connectivity between the run game
- 1:32Speaker 1: and the pass game and the defense with the pass
- 1:36Speaker 1: rush and the past detection or descending the run, like
- 1:39Speaker 1: every nothing just seemed to mess well. Even though I
- 1:41Speaker 1: think the defense made some improvements, it just felt like,
- 1:45Speaker 1: uh like, I felt like I left the game with
- 1:48Speaker 1: a bunch of lego pieces on the ground and they
- 1:51Speaker 1: and they used to be like a ship or something,
- 1:53Speaker 1: and now there it's just all falling apart. They're just
- 1:55Speaker 1: different pieces on the ground. I'm trying not to step on.
- 1:57Speaker 1: That's kind of what I felt like last night when
- 1:59Speaker 1: I got home. I feel I feel you. Well, let's
- 2:02Speaker 1: let's talk about the matchup that I guess we were
- 2:04Speaker 1: looking at Kyle Philli versus Aaron Donald, the most dangerous
- 2:08Speaker 1: man in the NFL. How do you think he did
- 2:10Speaker 1: against that guy? You know, I think just in general,
- 2:12Speaker 1: the offensive line, uh did okay? If you look at
- 2:15Speaker 1: his stat line, Uh, he only had two quarterback hits
- 2:19Speaker 1: that was his That was his stat for the entire game,
- 2:22Speaker 1: although there were times where he got pressure, but he
- 2:25Speaker 1: wasn't getting pressure in a way that that he was
- 2:29Speaker 1: dominating the game. And I went back last night and
- 2:32Speaker 1: watched like the first quarter and a half or so
- 2:34Speaker 1: of the game, just ought to see where he was.
- 2:37Speaker 1: And they actually moved him around between over the center
- 2:42Speaker 1: and over both guards, and so I think they were
- 2:44Speaker 1: trying to work the rookie a little bit. They were
- 2:45Speaker 1: trying to work Kyle Fuller a little bit and isolate
- 2:48Speaker 1: him with Aaron Donald. And then they were also, uh,
- 2:51Speaker 1: you know, trying to go at uh your potty because
- 2:54Speaker 1: of you know, just probably athletically, I think Prince Sprinth wise,
- 2:58Speaker 1: your potty matched up well, but athletically Aaron Donald had
- 3:01Speaker 1: to advantage. And from what I saw just in that
- 3:03Speaker 1: quarter and a half, so I mean, obviously you're not
- 3:06Speaker 1: gonna be perfect when you're blocking that dude, But but
- 3:08Speaker 1: they were doing a good enough job against him that
- 3:12Speaker 1: that you didn't feel like he was taken over and
- 3:14Speaker 1: dominate the whole game. All right. Now, the last three games,
- 3:18Speaker 1: four games have been a struggle when it comes to
- 3:20Speaker 1: the run game. Are we finally to a point where
- 3:23Speaker 1: people are going are starting to realize it's the importance
- 3:26Speaker 1: of having a guy like Chris Carson in the backfield. Absolutely.
- 3:30Speaker 1: I think some of the decisions that are made are
- 3:33Speaker 1: not made in the run game has a lot to
- 3:36Speaker 1: do with Chris Carson. I think also they're missing the
- 3:39Speaker 1: passing elements of Chris Carson in the office because he
- 3:43Speaker 1: was you know, I think going into the season they
- 3:46Speaker 1: wanted to have like fifty targets to solder Chris Carson,
- 3:49Speaker 1: and they started out really well with using mixing him
- 3:52Speaker 1: up in the run game and screen game and uh,
- 3:54Speaker 1: you know, getting him out into some routes and things
- 3:56Speaker 1: like that. There's other talents and gifts that he brings
- 3:59Speaker 1: to the table, but he also just brings like the
- 4:01Speaker 1: attitude and the confidence in the of the coaching staff that,
- 4:04Speaker 1: uh that they can do some different things in the
- 4:07Speaker 1: run game. And so as much as we'd like to
- 4:09Speaker 1: see uh this offense be aggressive with the ball and
- 4:13Speaker 1: scoring a bunch of points and things like that, I
- 4:16Speaker 1: think it has been to the detriment of the defense
- 4:18Speaker 1: for a struggling defense. On top of that, so I
- 4:21Speaker 1: think that there has to be if they can get
- 4:23Speaker 1: Chris Carson. As soon as they can get either Chris
- 4:25Speaker 1: Carson or Carlos hide back, I think it'll start to
- 4:28Speaker 1: stabilize the offense again. And then and then I think
- 4:31Speaker 1: they'll they'll either rely not rely on it, but mixed
- 4:34Speaker 1: in the running game and the passing game and blend
- 4:37Speaker 1: them together, versus saying, hey, we're a passing football team,
- 4:41Speaker 1: and then every now and again, we're gonna, you know,
- 4:43Speaker 1: we're gonna run the ball. I think Denny O'Neill did
- 4:45Speaker 1: a good job last night, you know, and his explanation
- 4:48Speaker 1: of it of back in the day us most of
- 4:50Speaker 1: the running team and then when you threw the ball,
- 4:53Speaker 1: you had to do damage when you're throwing the ball,
- 4:55Speaker 1: and now it's the reverse where uh, we're a throwing
- 4:59Speaker 1: team and and those opportunities when you run the ball,
- 5:01Speaker 1: you have to be able to do damage. And I
- 5:02Speaker 1: think the best chance to do that is with Chris Carson.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Now you talk about throwing the football, Obviously the Hawks
- 5:08Speaker 1: aren't throwing the football a lot more, and because of that,
- 5:11Speaker 1: Russell has been turning the ball over a lot more.
- 5:13Speaker 1: The last two or three weeks has been rough on him.
- 5:15Speaker 1: What are you seeing out of him? Are the corrections
- 5:18Speaker 1: that need to be made. I'm talking about Russells. Yeah,
- 5:21Speaker 1: so when when I look at Russell Lakes, it's weird
- 5:25Speaker 1: because sometimes you just want him to take the yard. Issh,
- 5:30Speaker 1: that's there. So that may be the dump down to
- 5:32Speaker 1: the tight end and maybe the swing route to the
- 5:34Speaker 1: to the to the running back or maybe hey, like
- 5:37Speaker 1: everyone's we're trying to push the ball down the field
- 5:40Speaker 1: and that's a lot of space between me and the
- 5:42Speaker 1: next defender. Let me just go get those eight or
- 5:43Speaker 1: nine or ten yards and just keep the change moving. Uh.
- 5:47Speaker 1: And it's and it's really hard to ask Russell to
- 5:50Speaker 1: do that because he's so gifted it making place down
- 5:52Speaker 1: the field. But I think at this point, just to
- 5:54Speaker 1: stabilize the offense, not that you're saying not to be
- 5:58Speaker 1: aggressive with the ball and all that, but you have
- 6:00Speaker 1: to start taking what's there to keep the offense, you know,
- 6:05Speaker 1: ahead of the change, but then also give your defense
- 6:07Speaker 1: an opportunity to not be able to field so much,
- 6:10Speaker 1: keep the other offense off the field like those types
- 6:13Speaker 1: of things. And so I, you know, I have faith
- 6:17Speaker 1: and trust and rust that when he says that he's
- 6:20Speaker 1: going to make the right corrections, and he trust in
- 6:22Speaker 1: his process. His process has proven to be a very
- 6:27Speaker 1: good one and to be able to get him to
- 6:29Speaker 1: where he is in his life and in his career.
- 6:31Speaker 1: So I trust that he's going to make the necessary things,
- 6:33Speaker 1: the necessary changes to get the offense back on track
- 6:37Speaker 1: for from his perspective. And then I think to help that,
- 6:40Speaker 1: it's it's it's to lean on that offensive line in
- 6:42Speaker 1: the run game more. All right, big game coming up
- 6:46Speaker 1: on Thursday, Ray Arizona beats the Buffalo Bills in a
- 6:49Speaker 1: miracle play. To sell it, the last time the Hawks played,
- 6:53Speaker 1: Arizona got the best of them. One is how important
- 6:56Speaker 1: is this game? And two what do the Hawks need
- 6:58Speaker 1: to do to make sure they do not go on
- 7:01Speaker 1: three in their last three? Well, you know, we're having
- 7:04Speaker 1: this discussion last night on the on the post game show,
- 7:07Speaker 1: and uh, Paul Moyer was saying like, hey, you know,
- 7:09Speaker 1: like we're going into this game injured. They are not
- 7:12Speaker 1: as injured. Um, they're coming off a big, you know win,
- 7:16Speaker 1: and this may just have to do a loss that
- 7:18Speaker 1: we take, but we still have a chance to win.
- 7:20Speaker 1: You know, twelve of you know, twelve games, twelve of
- 7:22Speaker 1: thirteen games going down to stretch. And so the only thing,
- 7:25Speaker 1: the only problem I would have what that methodology is that, Um,
- 7:30Speaker 1: then that would mean that you're gonna you're you're willing
- 7:32Speaker 1: to lose three games in the row. And to me,
- 7:35Speaker 1: that says something that that says something else to the
- 7:37Speaker 1: team if they can't come out of here with a win, uh,
- 7:40Speaker 1: and then they're looking at a three game losing streak
- 7:43Speaker 1: when they started the season with a six games winning streaks,
- 7:46Speaker 1: I think that says something. I think that would have
- 7:49Speaker 1: something to do with the team, just from a mental perspective,
- 7:52Speaker 1: from a confidence perspective, from a even a confidence into
- 7:56Speaker 1: who we are and what we're doing. So it may
- 7:58Speaker 1: force people to then start trying to do things outside
- 8:01Speaker 1: of their abilities and capabilities and make the thing worse.
- 8:03Speaker 1: So I think it's important, just from a mental approach
- 8:06Speaker 1: and from a psychological approach with the team that they
- 8:09Speaker 1: find a way to win this game. It doesn't have
- 8:12Speaker 1: to be you know, Russell throwing the ball fifty times
- 8:14Speaker 1: or the defense shutting everything down. Just win the football game.
- 8:18Speaker 1: I think they just they just need to win a
- 8:20Speaker 1: football game. And it doesn't have to look pretty, it
- 8:22Speaker 1: doesn't have to have the best stats in the world.
- 8:25Speaker 1: The only stat they need to have is one more
- 8:27Speaker 1: point in Arizona when when the clock hits the triple zeros. Well,
- 8:31Speaker 1: I see the big Ray. The plus side is the
- 8:33Speaker 1: Hawks are undefeated at home, so let's make sure they
- 8:36Speaker 1: keep that going. Like always, Big Homing, I appreciate your time, Man,
- 8:40Speaker 1: Thanks for having me, Man. And you know, I feel like,
- 8:44Speaker 1: you know, some people are kind of panicking it a
- 8:45Speaker 1: little bit around the program, but I don't think there's
- 8:47Speaker 1: any program panic. And Russell or Pete. Obviously there's concerned,
- 8:52Speaker 1: but there's not panic. Those are two different things, and
- 8:54Speaker 1: so I think they'll have a I think they'll start
- 8:56Speaker 1: to figure it out. It may not look like they're
- 8:58Speaker 1: figuring it out on Thursday, but I think they'll get
- 9:00Speaker 1: to figured out and finish the season. Stroll all you
- 9:03Speaker 1: hear from Big Raid folks, don't pat it. It's all
- 9:06Speaker 1: good things. Ray, All right, big dope, All right, NASA,
- 9:09Speaker 1: let's break this thing down. What happened? See what had happened?
- 9:12Speaker 1: At first? What had happened was unhard. What had happened
- 9:20Speaker 1: was oh my goodness. Well, the Seahawks lost their second
- 9:23Speaker 1: consecutive game in a Row dropping a game to the
- 9:25Speaker 1: Rams twenty three to sixteen. This is just a ninth
- 9:28Speaker 1: time in Russell Wilson's career the Seahawks have lost consecutive games.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Bump and man. I'll just start with this, man, The
- 9:35Speaker 1: Seahawks defense has taken a lot of heat this year,
- 9:39Speaker 1: a ton. We're talking about them every single week, and
- 9:41Speaker 1: sometimes it was deserved. But last night or yesterday when
- 9:46Speaker 1: Seahawks played the Rams, they absolutely did not lose because
- 9:50Speaker 1: of this defense. That was not the reason why the
- 9:52Speaker 1: losses football game. I mean, you look at the game
- 9:55Speaker 1: started this defense. Yes, they allowed two hundred fourteen yards
- 9:58Speaker 1: in the first half, and it took them while to
- 9:59Speaker 1: get going golf, and the Rams kind of went up
- 10:01Speaker 1: and down the field in the first couple of drives
- 10:03Speaker 1: and pretty much all those yards you're on two drives.
- 10:06Speaker 1: And after that second half the seas defense allow one
- 10:08Speaker 1: hundred and seventy yards rest of the game and most
- 10:10Speaker 1: importantly just six just six points, one touchdown drive and
- 10:13Speaker 1: four three straight punts. So I'm gonna try to spin
- 10:16Speaker 1: it positive to start as we look back at this game,
- 10:19Speaker 1: because while the defense wasn't perfect, it was one of
- 10:22Speaker 1: their better games. Holding the Ramps, so only twenty three points,
- 10:24Speaker 1: and if old the team twenty two points, you're assuming
- 10:26Speaker 1: the Seahawks were score a lot more than that. And
- 10:28Speaker 1: when the football games out, it was really tough to
- 10:30Speaker 1: see that. Yesterday Now to me, it was the best
- 10:33Speaker 1: game of the year for this defense. You held the
- 10:35Speaker 1: teams to twenty three points under four hundred yards for
- 10:37Speaker 1: the first time all season. I want to believe the
- 10:40Speaker 1: only touchdown they got in the second half was off
- 10:42Speaker 1: of a bogus pass an appearance called DJ Reid. I
- 10:45Speaker 1: don't know how else he's supposed to play that football.
- 10:48Speaker 1: But the defense got better. The story is when they
- 10:51Speaker 1: don't win the turnover battle. This team doesn't win football games,
- 10:55Speaker 1: and they didn't win the turnover battle. Russell throws a
- 10:57Speaker 1: couple of picks, there's a fumble. It's reminiscent of last week.
- 11:01Speaker 1: We sat here and say, there's no way Russell's gonna
- 11:03Speaker 1: have a game like he had last week. Wasn't as bad,
- 11:06Speaker 1: but didn't take care of the football. It all has
- 11:09Speaker 1: to come together at the same time. And I'm being
- 11:12Speaker 1: optimistic and I think it's getting closer. You still have
- 11:15Speaker 1: three sacks against the Rams, the Rams had allowed ten
- 11:18Speaker 1: texts coming into this game. Jamal Adams had two and
- 11:21Speaker 1: I believe Puna or someone else had half the other one,
- 11:24Speaker 1: So there's a positive there. Offensively, we saw something we
- 11:27Speaker 1: haven't seen all this year. This is the first time
- 11:30Speaker 1: the Hawks were held under twenty seven points, the first time.
- 11:33Speaker 1: If the Hawks just play a regular game, and regular
- 11:36Speaker 1: Seahawks game, nothing spectacled, just what they've been doing. They
- 11:39Speaker 1: win this football game. After scoring a TV on the
- 11:42Speaker 1: opening drive. The rest of the seall drives were punt,
- 11:45Speaker 1: field goal, interception, field goal, pump pump, fumble, interception, field goal.
- 11:49Speaker 1: That don't look like se'all football. No, it's not good enough,
- 11:52Speaker 1: and it's it's really weird to see because this offense
- 11:54Speaker 1: is coming into the game was the number one scoring
- 11:55Speaker 1: office the NFL, averaging thirty four points a game, and
- 11:58Speaker 1: even games where they did turn the ball over, they'll
- 12:00Speaker 1: put up big numbers on offense. Um and like you said,
- 12:03Speaker 1: it's it's eternal battle um Pete. Carroll preaches it's all
- 12:05Speaker 1: about the football, and unfortunately this team has not looked
- 12:09Speaker 1: like themselves. Uncharacteristic seven turnovers on offense the past two weeks.
- 12:13Speaker 1: That's it's not a recipe for winning football games. Yep,
- 12:17Speaker 1: not the recipe and not great in the red zone.
- 12:19Speaker 1: That's something else that the Hawks are good at. They're
- 12:21Speaker 1: typically one of the best teams in the red zone.
- 12:23Speaker 1: I believe they were one for three in the red
- 12:25Speaker 1: zone in this game. You get down there, you gotta
- 12:28Speaker 1: get yourself some points. I now the offense in rack
- 12:31Speaker 1: up over three hundred yards and told offense seven for
- 12:33Speaker 1: fourteen on third down fifty percent. You kind of want
- 12:35Speaker 1: to be around sixty percent. But that's better than than
- 12:37Speaker 1: what we've seen. Um Now, let's talk about that fourth down. Goodness,
- 12:45Speaker 1: it's tearing Pete up and I'm I'm gonna go to
- 12:48Speaker 1: bat for Pete. I've seen this. Okay for the nitch,
- 12:51Speaker 1: say hey, just do a quarterback sneak. Last week Russell
- 12:54Speaker 1: got a quarterback sneak first time for a toun show.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Let's not forget you have Kyle Fuller, who's agreeing center
- 12:59Speaker 1: got Aaron don't know who's gonna be lining up in
- 13:01Speaker 1: one of the A gaps. They're gonna walk a linebacker
- 13:03Speaker 1: down and he's sinking ahead. Let's pump the ball, make
- 13:05Speaker 1: them go eighty yards to get this touchdown. If they don't,
- 13:09Speaker 1: if they go for they don't get it, they essentially
- 13:11Speaker 1: gave them the ball on the forty. Like Pete Carroll said,
- 13:14Speaker 1: that's a turnover. I would have went for it, But
- 13:17Speaker 1: I understand why Pete didn't go for Oh, no question
- 13:20Speaker 1: about it. And honestly, I have no idea why this
- 13:22Speaker 1: became such a huge talking point as if it costs
- 13:25Speaker 1: the Seahawks a football game. When we were listening to
- 13:27Speaker 1: his press conference yesterday, there's about four or five questions
- 13:30Speaker 1: in a row trying to essentially asking the same question,
- 13:33Speaker 1: just twisting their words differently. Here's the deal. Let's look
- 13:36Speaker 1: at the situation. Okay, the score was thirteen to seventeen Rams. Okay,
- 13:41Speaker 1: there's thirteen minutes in fourteen seconds remaining in the third quarter.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Now this was three minutes. If there's three minutes left
- 13:49Speaker 1: in the game, I can see maybe. Okay, the defense,
- 13:53Speaker 1: despite how they've played this year, had forced a fumble
- 13:55Speaker 1: in a punt on the previous two Rams possessions. The
- 13:58Speaker 1: ball was on the seahawks own four to two yard line,
- 14:00Speaker 1: and like Pete said this morning, if you don't get
- 14:02Speaker 1: it there, that is a turnover. Let's turnover and okay,
- 14:07Speaker 1: and then people will be doing the opposite thing and
- 14:09Speaker 1: they would be crushing Pete. If they went and scored
- 14:12Speaker 1: two plays later, they'd be like, what are you doing?
- 14:13Speaker 1: Why would you do that? Blah blah blah. So it's
- 14:16Speaker 1: just I don't understand it. And the rams that was
- 14:19Speaker 1: they score a touchdown on that drive, like we mentioned earlier,
- 14:21Speaker 1: aided by a nonsense past interference penalty, and that was
- 14:26Speaker 1: the only score they got in the entire second half.
- 14:28Speaker 1: I just don't understand. It was a one score game
- 14:30Speaker 1: literally thirteen minutes in the third quarter. It makes no sense.
- 14:33Speaker 1: And the fact that yes, so he challenged the spot, right,
- 14:36Speaker 1: people don't know all the other things going around, Like
- 14:38Speaker 1: you mentioned, we know where Aaron Donald's gonna line up.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Kyle Fuller played with a high ankle sprain. He was
- 14:42Speaker 1: just gutting his way through the game. So maybe Pete
- 14:44Speaker 1: Carroll said, took that into account and saying, hmm, maybe
- 14:47Speaker 1: our starting center who's gutting it through with a high
- 14:49Speaker 1: ankle sprain is not gonna move Aaron Donald off the
- 14:52Speaker 1: spot and we might not get this first down. There's
- 14:55Speaker 1: one and then the other thing too, is like teams
- 14:57Speaker 1: do this all the time. You come back out on
- 14:59Speaker 1: the field, say hey, we're not going to run the play,
- 15:01Speaker 1: but let's just see if they jump. Maybe they give
- 15:02Speaker 1: us a bone, right, And now people are like, why
- 15:05Speaker 1: would they do that, Like, there's just go for you
- 15:07Speaker 1: already lost your time. I just I can't. Honestly, I bump.
- 15:10Speaker 1: I can't. I'm okay with people thinking like, hey, man,
- 15:13Speaker 1: go for it, like you wanting Pete to be aggressive there.
- 15:16Speaker 1: I'm okay with that. But people are around here are acting,
- 15:18Speaker 1: like Danny said this perfectly on the postgame show last night,
- 15:21Speaker 1: that Pete Carroll committed some coaching malpractice by not going
- 15:26Speaker 1: for it there. I mean, it's unbelievable. No, definitely not
- 15:29Speaker 1: the reason they lost the game. I know some twelves
- 15:32Speaker 1: are gonna disagree with me on that, but that's that's facts,
- 15:34Speaker 1: and you're never gonna convince me otherwise. The Seahawks lost
- 15:38Speaker 1: the game for a lot of reasons, and that decision
- 15:40Speaker 1: had nothing to do with it. Na I had nothing
- 15:42Speaker 1: to do with it. This is this is football. I've
- 15:44Speaker 1: seen this scenario a thousand times in my fifteen twenty
- 15:48Speaker 1: years of covering them playing football. Fourth and inches, you're
- 15:52Speaker 1: in your own territory, make them work, get the whole field,
- 15:55Speaker 1: You bring your offense out, you try to get them
- 15:57Speaker 1: to jump. Maybe they do. You get three yards. It's
- 16:00Speaker 1: almost like a dance that I've seen before. I know
- 16:03Speaker 1: this routine. I've seen this routine before. It's a standard
- 16:07Speaker 1: coaching right here. So people who are who are going
- 16:10Speaker 1: after Pete one, I don't really think you understand football.
- 16:14Speaker 1: I just don't think like this is this is like
- 16:16Speaker 1: you said, like Danny said, he didn't do any mouth practice.
- 16:19Speaker 1: This is a standard procedure when it comes to coaching. Now,
- 16:22Speaker 1: rolling the dice would be going for it and quarterback
- 16:25Speaker 1: sneaking it, and then, like you said, if he doesn't
- 16:27Speaker 1: get it, everyone's mad Pete what he's doing. He'll never
- 16:29Speaker 1: be right to everyone in that situation. But guys who
- 16:33Speaker 1: will play the game and coach the game, they understand
- 16:35Speaker 1: what went down. Too much time on the clock, make
- 16:38Speaker 1: these guys march down the field, and if they didn't
- 16:40Speaker 1: get a PI call, they probably would have stopped him.
- 16:42Speaker 1: And Pete curls of genius. So hush the mouth. Let's
- 16:45Speaker 1: move on to playmakers. Playmakers, all right, First playmaker Alex Collins,
- 17:01Speaker 1: the new guy on the block, had eleven carros for
- 17:03Speaker 1: four y three yards and one touchdown, one reception for
- 17:06Speaker 1: four yards. You look at the eleven carress for forty
- 17:08Speaker 1: three and you don't think it's much, but it felt
- 17:11Speaker 1: like when the ball was in his hands there was
- 17:14Speaker 1: potential for a big run and he brought a feeling
- 17:18Speaker 1: to that run game that I haven't felt since Chris
- 17:21Speaker 1: Carson hasn't been back there. It wasn't spectacled, but it
- 17:24Speaker 1: did sport touchdown. He did get that game going that
- 17:26Speaker 1: first series. Alice Collins was one of the guys who
- 17:29Speaker 1: set the tone for this football team. Yeah, no question
- 17:31Speaker 1: about it. And it's good to see Alice Collins come back.
- 17:33Speaker 1: You know, we drafted him in twenty sixteen and he
- 17:35Speaker 1: went off to Baltimore had a thousand yards season, and
- 17:38Speaker 1: good to see him come back and kind of get
- 17:40Speaker 1: his footweet feet weet and helped his football team. None
- 17:44Speaker 1: of the running backs that are currently healthy right now
- 17:46Speaker 1: are played the game the way Chris Carson plays the game.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Those are all good football players, and it was good
- 17:52Speaker 1: to see what I saw from Alex Collins was a
- 17:54Speaker 1: little bit more I don't know, physicality, is the right word.
- 17:57Speaker 1: It just a little more downhill north south, and I
- 17:59Speaker 1: like where he's running his feet. So it's really good
- 18:01Speaker 1: to see Alice get out there and really helped this
- 18:02Speaker 1: football team. He looked good, and I love seeing that
- 18:04Speaker 1: toss play. Shout out on that touchdown. Shout out to
- 18:07Speaker 1: Dwayne Brown. Brown took their miclinebacker and put him in
- 18:12Speaker 1: the end zone as Ac scored. So I love that
- 18:15Speaker 1: toss action. I love to see those big boys getting
- 18:17Speaker 1: up front and getting physical. So it was good to
- 18:19Speaker 1: see Alex Collins get after it. It was it looks
- 18:22Speaker 1: confident when Alice Collins was running, he looked confident. He
- 18:25Speaker 1: wasn't secon against himself. Right. Another playmaker, DJ read ten
- 18:29Speaker 1: tackles one tackle for loss, one fumble recovery, a kick
- 18:32Speaker 1: off preturner for four to three yards, nine third down
- 18:35Speaker 1: stop on the screen. We list all these things. I
- 18:38Speaker 1: heard him talk with Q thirteen post game and he
- 18:42Speaker 1: was just pointing out all the negatives. I could have
- 18:45Speaker 1: had a pick, I could have done this, I could
- 18:46Speaker 1: have done that. That's the mentality you want from a
- 18:49Speaker 1: young guy or anybody who's taken an help. But we
- 18:52Speaker 1: can't ignore the young man had a decent game. Yeah,
- 18:55Speaker 1: you know. I mean sometimes sometimes people look at tackles
- 18:57Speaker 1: from defensive backs and say, well that maybe that's not
- 19:00Speaker 1: did well. The thing was, he was active in the
- 19:02Speaker 1: run game. He was where he was supposed to be.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Number one. I think I think when you look at
- 19:08Speaker 1: our how our defensive backs have played over the last
- 19:11Speaker 1: few months or so, I think I think dj Read
- 19:13Speaker 1: has really helped this football team. Um, a lot of
- 19:15Speaker 1: twelves didn't know anything about him till two weeks ago,
- 19:17Speaker 1: and he stepped in and done a nice job. He's
- 19:19Speaker 1: going to be in the right spot. Um, he stepped in,
- 19:21Speaker 1: did a really nice job at nicol and then just
- 19:23Speaker 1: shows his versatility to jump back outside. So love to
- 19:25Speaker 1: see it. And one thing I didn't know is that
- 19:27Speaker 1: had no idea his pump or kickoff return ability. That
- 19:31Speaker 1: was the best kickoff return all season and he saw
- 19:33Speaker 1: that birth. So it's good to have another weapon back
- 19:36Speaker 1: there because Travis Hillmer kind of got daged with a
- 19:38Speaker 1: hand injury. So it's good to see that the Seahawks
- 19:40Speaker 1: have more weapons. And dj Read is just continuing to
- 19:42Speaker 1: prove that he's a value member of this football team.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Dj Read, keep acting value to this team, young man,
- 19:48Speaker 1: next playmaker. Jamal Adam seven tackles to two sacks, a
- 19:52Speaker 1: force fumble, two tackles for laws, one QB hit um
- 19:57Speaker 1: and he played on the bad shoulder. Yep. It was
- 19:59Speaker 1: early two. Was that first series we saw him walk
- 20:01Speaker 1: into the locker room and we're like, oh man, what
- 20:03Speaker 1: is it. I thought maybe he reactivated as growing wasn't
- 20:06Speaker 1: that bum shoulder comes back, has two sacks, a strip sack.
- 20:11Speaker 1: He's doing what we're paying him to do. He's not
- 20:14Speaker 1: gonna be an interceptions guy. These causing havoc. His defense
- 20:18Speaker 1: had the best performance I think they've had all year,
- 20:20Speaker 1: even with their seven sacks last year, and a lot
- 20:23Speaker 1: of it is because he's getting after the quarterback. Yeah. No,
- 20:25Speaker 1: that's what Jamal Adams does. He's one of the best
- 20:27Speaker 1: boozing football players in the National Football League. And I
- 20:30Speaker 1: love him down in the box. I love him like
- 20:31Speaker 1: an extra linebacker. Man. That's I think that's his strength
- 20:34Speaker 1: and I think he does that really well. And the
- 20:35Speaker 1: other thing about it, too, was he talked about it
- 20:38Speaker 1: when he spoke to you guys on Danny and Gallant
- 20:40Speaker 1: this morning. Was not only is he playing with the
- 20:42Speaker 1: bum shoulder. When he creates that strip sack. He had
- 20:44Speaker 1: to go at it with the wrong arm because he
- 20:46Speaker 1: couldn't lift his other arm up high enough, and he
- 20:48Speaker 1: still got it done, still got another sack after that.
- 20:50Speaker 1: So I just love to see the toughness out of
- 20:52Speaker 1: Jamal Adams. You know, he's a gamer. He will do
- 20:54Speaker 1: anything for this football team. So I love his mentality.
- 20:58Speaker 1: Even if he talked after the game saying we're going
- 20:59Speaker 1: to be fine, you know, we screwed up. He owns anything,
- 21:03Speaker 1: he takes responsibility for it. So he's just a leader
- 21:05Speaker 1: on this football team. And I think with him in
- 21:07Speaker 1: that rold, things are going to get better. And I
- 21:09Speaker 1: think we started to see that in the second half.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Signo Jamal Adams. His post game fits are so West
- 21:15Speaker 1: Coast hey Man is always looking fresh for show. The
- 21:21Speaker 1: last playmaker. Kyle Fuller Man Kyle Fuller Aaron Donald, which
- 21:26Speaker 1: I shouted to the mountaintops to anyone that will listened
- 21:29Speaker 1: to me, is the best defensive player in the National
- 21:32Speaker 1: Football League, the best, potentially one of the best defensive
- 21:35Speaker 1: players of this generation. Let me read you a stat
- 21:37Speaker 1: line once again. Zero tackles, zero sacks, zero tackles for loss,
- 21:44Speaker 1: two QB hits and if you look at the numbers
- 21:46Speaker 1: in pure impact, that's the worst game he's ever played
- 21:48Speaker 1: against Seattle. So big upsa Kyl Fuller, Aaron Donald wasn't
- 21:52Speaker 1: over the center one hundred percent. Of course, he moved around.
- 21:55Speaker 1: He was lined up over the guards, over you, Potty
- 21:57Speaker 1: and Lewis at different times. But when he was on
- 21:59Speaker 1: Kyle Fuller, Tyle Forward did a great job. Again, he
- 22:02Speaker 1: stepped in, was playing on a high ankle sprain, calling them,
- 22:06Speaker 1: calling the protections and whatnot, and it's just it's just
- 22:09Speaker 1: amazing to see a guy that step in against a
- 22:11Speaker 1: caliber of that defensive line and ball out. And what
- 22:15Speaker 1: people don't understand is that center is the second quarterback.
- 22:19Speaker 1: He's calling the box, he's communicating with five guys out there,
- 22:22Speaker 1: he's relaying calls from Russell Wilson. He has to be
- 22:25Speaker 1: on point at all times. And then you have one
- 22:27Speaker 1: of the best defenders of all the time lining up
- 22:30Speaker 1: over you maybe fifty to sixty percent of the time.
- 22:32Speaker 1: And big ups of those guards too, they're gonna help them.
- 22:35Speaker 1: The double teams. It's it's a It takes a village
- 22:39Speaker 1: to block Aaron Donald, and that's what we saw. Yes
- 22:41Speaker 1: the Hawks loss. It didn't pan out the way that
- 22:44Speaker 1: you wanted to, but there were some bright spots, and
- 22:46Speaker 1: this offensive line, specifically Kyle Fuller was a bright spot.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Big up, young man. I assume he's gonna be out
- 22:52Speaker 1: for a few weeks because of the high ankle sprain.
- 22:54Speaker 1: You came in, you filled in, you dig your thing.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Good for you, all right, wide receiver round. Not much
- 23:00Speaker 1: to see here this week? Nos, Yeah, lock it catch
- 23:03Speaker 1: at sixty six. Freddie looks explosive. Yeah, three for thirty
- 23:06Speaker 1: seven along to twenty one. If Freddie was active for
- 23:10Speaker 1: a few weeks and then kind of faded a little bit,
- 23:12Speaker 1: now he's back. I like seeing Freddie gets him love yea.
- 23:15Speaker 1: If Freddie looks good, man, I think. I think, especially
- 23:18Speaker 1: with all the attention to DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett,
- 23:23Speaker 1: David Moore has obviously played super well this year. But
- 23:25Speaker 1: Freddie looked good yesterday. I love to see him, like
- 23:27Speaker 1: to see him improving every week. And when you're in
- 23:29Speaker 1: there and Russ decided to throw you the ball, make
- 23:31Speaker 1: it happen, because that's just building that chemistry in that
- 23:34Speaker 1: trust and don't give RUSS a reason not to go
- 23:36Speaker 1: your way. So I'd love to see Freddie Freddie football
- 23:38Speaker 1: getting after it. I'd like to see it. Greg Golson
- 23:42Speaker 1: had two for thirty three DK two for twenty eight,
- 23:44Speaker 1: wasn't targeted in the first half. Pete Carroll said, they
- 23:47Speaker 1: called his number. They called his number. The players that
- 23:49Speaker 1: are meant to go for him, But Reeds take you
- 23:52Speaker 1: off of it. If Jayla Ramsey's playing it perfectly, you
- 23:55Speaker 1: go off it. If the defense takes away a certain route,
- 23:57Speaker 1: you go off it. I don't think they said, oh
- 23:59Speaker 1: my gosh, Danylon Ramsey as owner, we're not going throwing
- 24:01Speaker 1: the football. It was like, look, they played the perfect
- 24:04Speaker 1: defense for this call. So sometimes you just have to
- 24:06Speaker 1: move on to your reas. Yeah, you have guys underneath.
- 24:09Speaker 1: And honestly, I haven't had a chance to go through
- 24:10Speaker 1: a coach's film yet. It's not up yet, but I'm
- 24:12Speaker 1: really interested to see how they played him because I
- 24:14Speaker 1: think a lot of times when they weren't in man,
- 24:16Speaker 1: you had a safety of the top or you had
- 24:18Speaker 1: a linebacker buzzing underneath. So there's different ways to take
- 24:21Speaker 1: him away and that hopefully we were hoping that would
- 24:23Speaker 1: open up some other guys. But and there's another one
- 24:25Speaker 1: on the sideline that would have been a huge catch
- 24:27Speaker 1: that was just out of his fingertips. And that was
- 24:30Speaker 1: one that you normally see Russell and DK hook up on.
- 24:32Speaker 1: So he makes that catch to his statalone. Looks a
- 24:35Speaker 1: lot different, but it's just one of those days. Man.
- 24:37Speaker 1: We'll see the rams again and I think we'll be
- 24:39Speaker 1: better prepared most definitely. DJ Dallas running back, had two
- 24:43Speaker 1: for twenty three. Two big plays. Was kind of scrambled
- 24:45Speaker 1: plays too. Russell flicks the ball to him on one.
- 24:48Speaker 1: He does this Stefan Digg's imitation getting his knees up
- 24:51Speaker 1: trying to shake dudes. Nice to see him get the rock.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Homer had three for nineteen, Disley one for sixteen, Demo
- 24:57Speaker 1: two for sixteen, Hollister one for six, and then Alex
- 25:00Speaker 1: Collins one for four. Lots of names on this statue,
- 25:03Speaker 1: but not a lot of yards and no touchdowns. I
- 25:06Speaker 1: expect this to look different this Thursday against Arizona Cardinals.
- 25:10Speaker 1: But now let's break down a play in the coach's corner.
- 25:14Speaker 1: All right, this first play, we are gonna look to
- 25:16Speaker 1: the only player we're gonna look at is Alan's Collins
- 25:18Speaker 1: thirteen yard touchdown on a run on the opening drive,
- 25:22Speaker 1: setting the tone at the Rams thirteen Collins stays in
- 25:25Speaker 1: the backfield, quick tossing him, he goes left side, hitside
- 25:28Speaker 1: to ten, hit side to five. Touchdown. Seahawks around the
- 25:34Speaker 1: left hand with a good block by Disley, and Alex
- 25:37Speaker 1: Collins has returned to Seattle to score six with their
- 25:41Speaker 1: first opportunity. The Seahawks are on the board and they
- 25:44Speaker 1: lead six to three. Man, I really liked this play design,
- 25:49Speaker 1: all right. They motioned it Tighten over to the right
- 25:51Speaker 1: side of the formation. Well, they bring him back to
- 25:54Speaker 1: be the lead on the toss for Alex Collins. He
- 25:56Speaker 1: gets out. D K goes flat down the line of
- 25:59Speaker 1: scrimmage and seals the edge. Boom who's the receiver? Demo
- 26:03Speaker 1: gets to the second level, makes a block the tight end.
- 26:06Speaker 1: I believe that's Hollister makes another block, but it's all
- 26:09Speaker 1: about seven to six. Seventy boy, big boy triple og.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Dwayne Brown leaves the charge and drives a grown man
- 26:18Speaker 1: twelve yards into the end zone. This is the type
- 26:22Speaker 1: of football we missed not having thirty two back there, Oh,
- 26:25Speaker 1: no question about it. And you look at Dwayne He's
- 26:27Speaker 1: he climbs the second level, he makes contact with that
- 26:29Speaker 1: with that linebacker at the ten yard line and takes
- 26:32Speaker 1: him for a ride onto his back two yards deep
- 26:34Speaker 1: in the end zone. And that's the physical stuff you
- 26:36Speaker 1: love seeing. Like Ray Roberts talked about a ton of
- 26:38Speaker 1: the pregame show, Drayn Brown has those big arms meant
- 26:43Speaker 1: for smashing people. Get this man out on the perimeter
- 26:45Speaker 1: and do work. And it's everybody making their block. It's
- 26:48Speaker 1: it's Louis sealing a guy. It's Kyle Fuller getting a
- 26:52Speaker 1: little double team from Fuller and Will Distly getting a
- 26:55Speaker 1: linebacker taking him out of the play. It's uh Jacob
- 26:58Speaker 1: Holiso running out trying to cut the fensive back out there.
- 27:00Speaker 1: So it's just great to see them getting downhill north
- 27:03Speaker 1: and south. And that's what this football team, that's what
- 27:05Speaker 1: we've been used to seeing for the past five years
- 27:08Speaker 1: or so. That's this is what we do. So no
- 27:10Speaker 1: matter who's back there, I like this kind of action.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Anytime Duayne Brown can get out on the edge and
- 27:14Speaker 1: get a full head of team and he's going to
- 27:16Speaker 1: block linebackers and dbs, it's gonna be a long day,
- 27:19Speaker 1: long day, and this happened on the opening drive. The
- 27:22Speaker 1: Rams only gave up seven points on opening drives prior
- 27:24Speaker 1: to this. The Hawks set the tone and say, look,
- 27:26Speaker 1: we're going down the field. We're gonna get it done.
- 27:28Speaker 1: Didn't work out in the long run, but it's nice
- 27:31Speaker 1: to see them come out fast. The last two weeks,
- 27:34Speaker 1: this offense come out slow. I asked Pete carr Ago,
- 27:36Speaker 1: is there something you guys are doing different? Pregaming goes Nah,
- 27:39Speaker 1: it's just focus and execution. That's what it comes down to.
- 27:42Speaker 1: These are grown men, these are professionals. So nas we're
- 27:46Speaker 1: not in the greatest formation of football. This week the
- 27:49Speaker 1: clock just ran out on us an taken by Huntley.
- 27:55Speaker 1: They're just gonna let the clock wind down, but it's
- 27:57Speaker 1: not even gonna bother taking that last time out, the
- 28:03Speaker 1: clock ran out again for the second week in a row.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Bump Man, It's it's it's tough. I never this formation.
- 28:11Speaker 1: It just feels uncomfortable because we're just not used to
- 28:13Speaker 1: We're so spoiled to start the year five and oh
- 28:16Speaker 1: and then you lost Arizona and then we got to
- 28:17Speaker 1: figure it out and just just feel this two weeks
- 28:20Speaker 1: in a row. It's just weird. I don't like it.
- 28:21Speaker 1: I don't like it at all, but you know, it
- 28:24Speaker 1: is what it is. It's all about the football. And
- 28:26Speaker 1: once again, turnovers we're the main difference in the game.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Seahawks had three, the Rams had one. Lose turnover battle,
- 28:32Speaker 1: you lose the game. Yep. If you don't want to
- 28:36Speaker 1: turn off about it, you're probably gonna lose the game.
- 28:39Speaker 1: On the bright side of the defense played better in
- 28:40Speaker 1: the second half. They play better. Only allowed six points.
- 28:44Speaker 1: We haven't done that in a very long time. That's
- 28:46Speaker 1: a trophy, So there's a positive. I only allowed six points.
- 28:49Speaker 1: Jamal Adams was a factor again. Two sacks. He's gonna
- 28:53Speaker 1: lead this team in sacks end of the year. I'm
- 28:55Speaker 1: gonna call it right now. He's got eight to ten sacks.
- 28:58Speaker 1: He's gonna lead this team and we need more of that. No,
- 29:01Speaker 1: I love it, and hey if he if he leaves
- 29:02Speaker 1: the team with ten eleven sacks, I'll be more than happy.
- 29:07Speaker 1: And yeah, you mentioned I love the defense. Only allowing
- 29:09Speaker 1: six points and zero in the fourth quarter, which has
- 29:14Speaker 1: been a point where we've struggled all year long. Giving
- 29:16Speaker 1: up a twenty yards of the fourth quarter, So you'd
- 29:18Speaker 1: like to see that, So that that's the positive side.
- 29:20Speaker 1: And we've been talking about a kind of periodic throughout
- 29:23Speaker 1: the show. It's the Seahawks need to find that running
- 29:24Speaker 1: game again. And if Carson and Hide aren't back on
- 29:27Speaker 1: Thursday night, we still have to figure out a way
- 29:30Speaker 1: between Collins, Homer and Dallas. We have to get the
- 29:32Speaker 1: running game going because right now it's not working without
- 29:37Speaker 1: some kind of bounce, and that's what we need. Yeah,
- 29:41Speaker 1: here's the here's the bad news. Hawks of loss two
- 29:45Speaker 1: in a row. That's true. Here's a good news. There's
- 29:48Speaker 1: still top first place in the division. Baby, you had
- 29:50Speaker 1: a game coming up on Thursday. Gets a team that
- 29:52Speaker 1: beat you and beat the Bills on a hell Mary
- 29:55Speaker 1: one of the greatest players I've seen in a while.
- 29:57Speaker 1: But it's time to get revenge. You are at home,
- 30:00Speaker 1: We're undefeated at home. Protect your house, Contain Murray. Hopson's
- 30:04Speaker 1: gonna do what he does. Balls are gonna ball. But
- 30:07Speaker 1: I think that if this team can get healthy, I'm optimistic.
- 30:11Speaker 1: I know it's gonna be tough. I know it can
- 30:13Speaker 1: go either way. But this is a big game. This
- 30:16Speaker 1: team usually rises to the challenge. Why not this week
- 30:19Speaker 1: on Thursday? Absolutely bump, Why not this week? Because you
- 30:22Speaker 1: reminder of find a complete Seahawks coverage on seven ten
- 30:25Speaker 1: ESPN Seattle with seventen ESPN Seattle app or at sevententh
- 30:29Speaker 1: sports dot Com seven ten ESPN Seattle, the voice of
- 30:33Speaker 1: Seattle Sports. Bump. We still have everything in front of us.
- 30:36Speaker 1: Everything the Seahawks want to complish this year is still
