- 0:00The mind is not an instrument of knowledge.
- 0:03It is an analytical and organizing tool, but is unable
- 0:07on its own to establish truth or certainty.
- 0:12It also maintains a certain arrogance of in its own powers
- 0:17and thus, when confronted with something Beyond its own
- 0:21capabilities, it doubts the veracity and asks for proof,
- 0:26some things, however, cannot be proven.
- 0:30To the satisfaction of the intellect, however, that does
- 0:34not disprove those things. The Canaan who punish odd tells
- 0:39the tale of how the powers of the body, the Life Energy, and
- 0:43the mind thought, they were each powerful and masters of the
- 0:47existence of the Earth. But at some point their powers
- 0:52were nullified by something, which they could not understand
- 0:55or Define. The mental power, exceeded
- 0:59itself, and came to know that there was a greater power, the
- 1:04Eternal, which created and maintained all the Lesser powers
- 1:09of the creation. This does not imply that there
- 1:13cannot be some instrument of knowledge but it is not
- 1:17contained within the powers of body life and mind.
- 1:21Rather it is the psychic being the sole, which is a spark of
- 1:27the Divine in the individual being and thus through its
- 1:31Oneness, is able to know what these other powers cannot the
- 1:37knowledge of the Soul cannot be proven with the tools of the
- 1:41intellect but are expressed through the inner certainty that
- 1:46we call Faith. SRI aurobindo observes, quote,
- 1:52faith in the spiritual sense is not a mental belief, which can
- 1:56waver and change, it can wear that form in the mind, but that
- 2:01belief is not the faith itself. It is only its external form.
- 2:06Just as the body, the external form can change, but the spirit
- 2:12Remains the Same. So it is, here, faith is a
- 2:16certitude in the soul, which does not depend on reasoning on
- 2:21this, or that mental idea on circumstances on this, or that
- 2:26passing condition of the mind, or the vital or the body.
- 2:31It may be hidden. Eclipsed may even seem to be
- 2:35quenched, but it reappears again after the storm or the eclipse,
- 2:42it is seen burning. Still in the soul.
- 2:45When one has thought that it was extinguished forever.
- 2:49The Mind may be a shifting see of doubts and yet that Faith may
- 2:54be there within. And if so, it will keep even the
- 2:59Dow tracked mind in the way. So that it goes on in spite of
- 3:04itself towards its destined goal, faith is a spiritual
- 3:10certitude of the spiritual, the Divine, the souls ideal.
- 3:15Something that clings to that, even when it is not fulfilled.
- 3:19And in life, even when the immediate facts or the
- 3:23persistent circumstances seem to deny it, this is a common
- 3:29experience in the life of the human being.
- 3:32If it were not. So man would be the plaything of
- 3:36a changing mind or a sport of circumstances.
- 3:41And quote, reference SRI aurobindo in the mother growing
- 3:45with him, the psychology of inner development.
