2:15
Speaker 2: Welcome to the show now, West Virginia Attorney General JB. Mccusky.
2:19
Speaker 2: Good morning, sir, Welcome to the show. Hello JB. Well
2:28
Speaker 2: we have JB. He's there. I can hear the static
2:31
Speaker 2: on the line. All right, Maybe maybe he took a
2:36
Speaker 2: much more important phone call. I don't know what happened there,
2:41
Speaker 2: did JB? So okay, so Ryan tells me he's still
2:45
Speaker 2: on the line. He's just not talking to us right now.
2:48
Speaker 2: I know he is obviously. Okay, Now he's not on
2:51
Speaker 2: the line anymore. So we are going to try to
2:54
Speaker 2: reconnect with Attorney General JB. McCuskey. I know he's traveling
2:57
Speaker 2: for work in another state right now. So we are
3:00
Speaker 2: and to try our best to get Attorney General JB.
3:03
Speaker 2: McCuskey on was I know McCuskey, and I know he's
3:06
Speaker 2: somehow going to blame me for this, because that's what
3:08
Speaker 2: he does, because we've been friends for a long time.
3:10
Speaker 2: And I'm sure he will try to blame me for it.
3:13
Speaker 2: I think we have him now. Attorney General JB. McCuskey,
3:15
Speaker 2: are you there, Dave?
3:17
Speaker 5: Why does your phone not work?
3:19
Speaker 2: It does work.
3:21
Speaker 5: You knew I was going to blame you for.
3:23
Speaker 1: I know.
3:23
Speaker 6: That's what I just said.
3:24
Speaker 2: You will blame me for.
3:25
Speaker 6: I know.
3:25
Speaker 5: I heard you. I heard you. I had to mess
3:28
Speaker 5: around with you.
3:28
Speaker 2: That's what you do.
3:29
Speaker 5: I'm down here. I'm down here in Houston doing some
3:32
Speaker 5: energy work and I'm glad to be with everybody today.
3:35
Speaker 2: All right, how are things in Houston right now?
3:37
Speaker 5: They're a little rainy, but it really is remarkable to
3:41
Speaker 5: be in a place. Yesterday we toured a natural gas facility,
3:45
Speaker 5: a brand new natural gas power plant that they permitted
3:50
Speaker 5: and built within two years of the inception of the project.
3:53
Speaker 5: And it really is remarkable to be in a place
3:56
Speaker 5: where true regulatory reform is matching the needs of their economy. Right.
4:03
Speaker 5: And so when places are growing, like like we want
4:06
Speaker 5: West Virginia to grow, and like Texas is growing, these
4:09
Speaker 5: are the things you have to be able to do.
4:11
Speaker 5: And it really was. It was a remarkable day and
4:13
Speaker 5: tour with the folks at Energy who built this plant,
4:17
Speaker 5: and really hopeful to maybe get them up in West
4:20
Speaker 5: Virginia looking at some sites here pretty soon.
4:22
Speaker 2: I mean, that would be awesome, man. I mean when
4:23
Speaker 2: you told me that two years from the development of
4:27
Speaker 2: this plant to getting it up and operational, I mean,
4:29
Speaker 2: that's that's unheard of in the energy world and anything
4:32
Speaker 2: it has to do with any sort of regulations, that's
4:33
Speaker 2: absolutely unheard of.
4:35
Speaker 1: Sir.
4:36
Speaker 5: Yeah, it's crazy, and you know it is. West Virginia
4:40
Speaker 5: has to start to meet this need where it lies.
4:44
Speaker 5: And that's sort of a trite saying, but you know,
4:46
Speaker 5: if we want to be the place that's really starting
4:48
Speaker 5: to grow and to offer the opportunities that we want
4:51
Speaker 5: to offer to our families in West Virginia, we're going
4:53
Speaker 5: to have to start to do things like this. And
4:56
Speaker 5: I'm really hopeful that we can bring some of these
4:58
Speaker 5: ideas back home and and do some of the stuff
5:01
Speaker 5: that Texas is doing to really push the envelope.
5:03
Speaker 2: Turn to General JB. Mccusky's here. When I hear the
5:06
Speaker 2: word roadblocks, the first thing I thought of was road blocks,
5:09
Speaker 2: and I'm thinking, oh, cool, block roadblocks. But it's not real.
5:12
Speaker 5: It's roadblocks every three mile, Yeah, exactly.
5:15
Speaker 2: I'll be seeing some of those this weekend. As a
5:18
Speaker 2: matter of fact. What is what is Roadblocks? What's the
5:20
Speaker 2: story here?
5:21
Speaker 5: Yeah? So Roadblocks is a child's video game and essentially
5:26
Speaker 5: what it is and video games have changed obviously a
5:28
Speaker 5: lot since you and I were kids. You probably played Pong.
5:33
Speaker 2: We actually played it on a cave wall, MCSK. That's
5:36
Speaker 2: what we did.
5:36
Speaker 5: It was sure you did.
5:37
Speaker 2: Yeah.
5:37
Speaker 5: Yeah, video games for you were just like a couple
5:40
Speaker 5: of like RC cars at a box. Yeah. But Roadblocks
5:44
Speaker 5: is it's it's a it's sort of an interactive world
5:46
Speaker 5: where kids go and they build out, they can build
5:50
Speaker 5: their own games within the game. They actually learn how
5:52
Speaker 5: to code within the game. Uh. And it's really kind
5:55
Speaker 5: of a remarkable thing for kids that are inclined, you know,
5:57
Speaker 5: for sort of fantasy video games and and career kids.
6:01
Speaker 5: And my eight year old is manic about it. She
6:03
Speaker 5: absolutely loves it and her and her friends played all
6:05
Speaker 5: the time. But there were a myriad of problems with
6:08
Speaker 5: Roadblocks as it related to child safety and you know
6:11
Speaker 5: what was happening was is the game was being used
6:14
Speaker 5: as a platform for child predators. Et cetera, to go
6:17
Speaker 5: in and find kids in these chat rooms, et cetera.
6:20
Speaker 5: And there's been, you know, fairly well well publicized events
6:25
Speaker 5: where kids have actually been abducted and or have had
6:29
Speaker 5: really nasty things happen to them within the platform. And so,
6:32
Speaker 5: you know, we called Roadblocks. There's some lawsuits, some states
6:34
Speaker 5: have sued Roadblocks, and those suits are ongoing. But I
6:37
Speaker 5: called the CEO of Roadblocks and I said, hey, you know,
6:40
Speaker 5: we've got a real problem here, and you know, West
6:43
Speaker 5: Virginia wants to work with you to change the way
6:45
Speaker 5: that your platform works so that we can help protect kids.
6:49
Speaker 5: And today we are announcing I believe we're the first
6:52
Speaker 5: state in the country to have settled with Roadblocks. And
6:55
Speaker 5: the reason why that's important is because we were able
6:58
Speaker 5: to push them, not only to put provide eleven million
7:01
Speaker 5: dollars to the state of West Virginia, which is not
7:03
Speaker 5: an insignificant amount of money, over three million of which
7:07
Speaker 5: will be child safety based. So they're going to be
7:10
Speaker 5: providing US law enforcement officers to be on the ground
7:14
Speaker 5: in West Virginia over the next seven years to help
7:16
Speaker 5: us train principles and parents and students about the dangers
7:20
Speaker 5: of all online gaming, not just not just on Roadblocks
7:24
Speaker 5: and almost seven million dollars in cash that we can
7:27
Speaker 5: use for a myriad of things. But equally importantly, they
7:31
Speaker 5: have agreed to change the totality of their platform. And
7:34
Speaker 5: so now when you log onto Roadblocks, there is an
7:37
Speaker 5: AI facial recognition software that they've added that will it
7:41
Speaker 5: takes a picture of your face and your child's face,
7:44
Speaker 5: and it determines what your actual age is, and then
7:46
Speaker 5: the game is restricted based on what your AI age is.
7:50
Speaker 5: And they've changed all of the chat room functions to
7:53
Speaker 5: ensure that only kids are speaking with kids that are
7:55
Speaker 5: of their actual own age. And there's just a myriad
7:58
Speaker 5: of other pretty significant technological changes that we were able
8:02
Speaker 5: to get them to make. And what's really interesting here
8:05
Speaker 5: is one Roadblocks will now be potentially the safest online
8:09
Speaker 5: game for kids to be playing. But secondly, this is
8:12
Speaker 5: how these things can really work. When a company steps
8:15
Speaker 5: up and says, hey, I've got a great product, we
8:18
Speaker 5: want kids to be able to use this, and we're
8:20
Speaker 5: willing to admit that our platform is making a mistake.
8:23
Speaker 5: And so we were able to do all of this
8:25
Speaker 5: outside of litigation, and in a way that very quickly
8:29
Speaker 5: made the safety changes we needed for West Virginia kids
8:32
Speaker 5: and also provided us much needed resources to help us
8:35
Speaker 5: combat this really growing problem. So this is a really
8:38
Speaker 5: great result for West Virginia. It's something I'm really proud of.
8:41
Speaker 5: And I was really proud to work with the Roadblocks folks,
8:44
Speaker 5: because unlike our friends at Apple, and unlike our friends
8:49
Speaker 5: at the pharmacy benefit managers, they were willing to say,
8:52
Speaker 5: there's a problem, we want to step up and be
8:54
Speaker 5: part of the solution and work with us. And they
8:56
Speaker 5: did it, and it was really, really a great result.
8:59
Speaker 5: I'm just proud today.
9:00
Speaker 2: And I was going to bring that up because again,
9:03
Speaker 2: as you said, again we're talking with Attorney General JB. McCuskey.
9:05
Speaker 2: Not all companies that you've had interactions with have have
9:09
Speaker 2: been that way. And this is a company and I
9:11
Speaker 2: know absolutely nothing about this other than what you're telling me,
9:14
Speaker 2: but this is a company that just said, hey, we've
9:16
Speaker 2: got some issues, we want to work.
9:18
Speaker 5: On it, yep. And what really comes out of this
9:22
Speaker 5: then is they get to be a leader, right and
9:24
Speaker 5: they now get to go around and say, you know,
9:27
Speaker 5: Roadblocks stepped up to the plate, and hopefully other online
9:30
Speaker 5: games will emulate you know what their safety protocols are,
9:34
Speaker 5: and I think you know as we go around the
9:36
Speaker 5: state over the next couple of years working with roadblocks
9:39
Speaker 5: to educate kids and parents. Like I said in school
9:41
Speaker 5: administrators about you know how to do this properly, We're
9:45
Speaker 5: going to get tons of great feedback and they're going
9:47
Speaker 5: to be able to change their platform in an ongoing
9:50
Speaker 5: way to make sure that we're keeping up with the
9:52
Speaker 5: dangerous trends.
9:54
Speaker 2: We'll switch gears for a moment. Your office is working
9:56
Speaker 2: on what's being called a religious freedom case. Now this
9:58
Speaker 2: is in conjunction.
10:00
Speaker 5: Was called that, David? Actually is that?
10:03
Speaker 2: Okay? Okay, all right? It is a religious freedom case
10:07
Speaker 2: in conjunction.
10:07
Speaker 5: Trying to keep you on point.
10:09
Speaker 2: Okay, well, I appreciate that this is in conjunction with
10:12
Speaker 2: several other states. I have to do with a Catholic
10:14
Speaker 2: school being excluded from a preschool program. Take it from there.
10:19
Speaker 2: What is this all about?
10:21
Speaker 5: Yeah, So, in Colorado, in their infinite wisdom, as they
10:24
Speaker 5: are struggling with childcare and issues, just like West Virginia
10:28
Speaker 5: is their very left leaning legislature has decided that parochial
10:33
Speaker 5: schools who have a different religious understanding about certain issues
10:39
Speaker 5: should be completely excluded from public funding for needed childcare
10:45
Speaker 5: for the people in their state, and that is unconstitutional.
10:48
Speaker 5: And West Virginia has stepped up along with I think
10:50
Speaker 5: seventeen of the other Republican states to say, you know,
10:55
Speaker 5: this isn't how this goes right. You have a right
10:57
Speaker 5: in this country to be Catholic, You have a right
10:59
Speaker 5: in this country to have your beliefs, and you have
11:02
Speaker 5: a right if the government is offering these programs, to
11:05
Speaker 5: be treated the same as people who have a different
11:07
Speaker 5: religious philosophy than you do. And so this is sort
11:09
Speaker 5: of as a fundamental question as to whether or not
11:13
Speaker 5: we want to be a country where people can express
11:15
Speaker 5: their faith and really step up to do the things
11:19
Speaker 5: that we've asked churches and charities to do, or if
11:22
Speaker 5: we want to go the other way and exclude everyone
11:25
Speaker 5: that disagrees with the far left wing of the Democratic
11:28
Speaker 5: Party from being able to help in any of these problems.
11:31
Speaker 5: And so we are I'm very proud to be leading
11:34
Speaker 5: on this issue. It's an important issue and the Supreme
11:36
Speaker 5: Court will be deciding its soon.
11:38
Speaker 2: We're three weeks away, JB from the primary election. There
11:42
Speaker 2: was an issue in Cabull County where two people were
11:45
Speaker 2: charged with falsifying their residency and you worked with the
11:49
Speaker 2: Secretary of State's Office on this talk about that case.
11:52
Speaker 5: Yeah, So, you know, one of the things that our
11:54
Speaker 5: office does is we number one, we represent state agencies
11:58
Speaker 5: in cases like this. But in this particular instance, this
12:01
Speaker 5: was a criminal conviction, and our office is the is
12:06
Speaker 5: the place where criminal convictions that are appealed. We represent
12:10
Speaker 5: almost all of those instances. We represent the state, and
12:13
Speaker 5: so we were the you know, these two folks in
12:16
Speaker 5: Cabal County who had who'd been convicted or hadn't been convicted.
12:20
Speaker 5: There was a procedural issue, went to the Supreme Court
12:24
Speaker 5: and we were able to secure a victory to to
12:26
Speaker 5: make sure that our elections are fair and safe. And
12:29
Speaker 5: to their credit, Chris Warner and the Secretary of State's
12:31
Speaker 5: Office has been awesome to work with and they are
12:34
Speaker 5: really really committed to doing this and so we were
12:36
Speaker 5: proud to represent them and this is a really good
12:38
Speaker 5: result for the security of West Virginia's elections.
12:42
Speaker 2: Well, we'd let you go. One of the case I
12:43
Speaker 2: wanted to bring I want to bring up lawmakers put
12:47
Speaker 2: forth on JBM moratorium on new methodone clinics instead of
12:50
Speaker 2: West Virginia. Suit was filed claiming that somehow methodone clinics
12:54
Speaker 2: should be part of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and
12:57
Speaker 2: your office said, no, pick it up from there.
13:01
Speaker 5: Yeah, it just isn't part of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
13:04
Speaker 5: And in this instance, this is where our office represents
13:07
Speaker 5: the state right. So our state law has a moratorium
13:10
Speaker 5: on these things. And the folks who challenged this were
13:13
Speaker 5: improper plaintiffs, They didn't have standing, and their arguments really
13:16
Speaker 5: didn't make sense. There are methadone clinics in West Virginia,
13:20
Speaker 5: and I think everybody agrees that in limited usage, they
13:23
Speaker 5: are a great resource for certain people who have substance
13:26
Speaker 5: abuse disorder. But it is also an area where extreme
13:31
Speaker 5: fraud can happen within the system. Is countless examples of
13:35
Speaker 5: methadone clinics improperly using federal and state funds. And so
13:39
Speaker 5: this moratorium is constitutional, it makes sense, it's a good law.
13:43
Speaker 5: And so we were defending our legislature's decision to have
13:47
Speaker 5: this moratorium against what was a challenge from honestly, it
13:52
Speaker 5: wasn't even the challenge never really should have gotten to
13:55
Speaker 5: where it was because the folks who brought it didn't
13:58
Speaker 5: have standing to even ask the question.
14:00
Speaker 2: All right, the Attorney General J. V. McCuskey. Always a
14:02
Speaker 2: pleasure to have you on the show, sir. We'll talk soon.
14:05
Speaker 7: Day.
14:05
Speaker 5: We are three weeks from the election, buddy. Everybody needs
14:07
Speaker 5: to get out there and vote. This is an incredibly
14:10
Speaker 5: important election. I know everybody's getting all kinds of mailers
14:13
Speaker 5: and stuff, but do your research, find the right candidates.
14:16
Speaker 5: And I would be remiss if I didn't put in
14:19
Speaker 5: a little shameless plug for my buddy, Delbert Rowse. She's
14:21

16:05

17:39
Speaker 2: Andy Shay is here along with the manager of the
17:40
Speaker 2: Birds PJ. Phillips and Ben Blum, who's the general manager.
17:43
Speaker 2: Welcome to all you guys.
17:45
Speaker 6: Appreciate it man, Happy opening Day, I'm putty Opening DAYPJAS happening,
17:49
Speaker 6: thank you, thank you. Glad to be here.
17:51
Speaker 2: All right, So anyone to start with you. It's been
17:52
Speaker 2: a long winter and you and I talked on the
17:54
Speaker 2: show last Friday ahead of the home run derby.
17:56
Speaker 6: We're ready for some baseball. We're pumped, man, We're so pumped.
17:59
Speaker 6: I mean everything you know, I mean from the field
18:02
Speaker 6: on up is just tremendous. I mean, the guys, like
18:05
Speaker 6: it was so fun seeing the home run derby obviously
18:07
Speaker 6: seeing these gigantic home runs, but seeing the camaraderie like
18:12
Speaker 6: right off the bat was just absolutely awesome. And I
18:14
Speaker 6: mean that is just a huge testament to this guy
18:16
Speaker 6: here with PJ and building that culture with you know,
18:20
Speaker 6: no time going by. I think the stadium has never
18:23
Speaker 6: looked better. I mean, ranging from you know, the best
18:25
Speaker 6: kids area we've ever had from eminem party, We've got
18:29
Speaker 6: the coolest mini golf course that I know of. And
18:32
Speaker 6: I may be a little biased because my wife Christine
18:34
Speaker 6: is the designer for it.
18:36
Speaker 2: You better say that.
18:37
Speaker 6: Yeah, No, I mean it's it's been cool this last month.
18:39
Speaker 6: I mean, the concourse almost looks like a mini parking
18:41
Speaker 6: lot because we've had so many people doing so much
18:44
Speaker 6: awesome work on the stadium. So we're just really pumped.
18:46
Speaker 6: We're really pumped it's here.
18:48
Speaker 2: It's gonna be a great season. And of course, you know,
18:50
Speaker 2: there's so much more than just the baseball that goes
18:53
Speaker 2: on to ballpark it's true of any baseball team. We'll
18:55
Speaker 2: get to that a little bit later. What are some
18:56
Speaker 2: new things at the ballpark this year?
18:58
Speaker 6: Andy, Well, So, I mean the new that I'm so
19:00
Speaker 6: pumped about. I mean, we're the only team in Minor
19:02
Speaker 6: League Baseball that has a bumper car rank in the concourse.
19:06
Speaker 6: So I mean having that addition to just our every
19:09
Speaker 6: game is going to be so awesome. It is free
19:11
Speaker 6: for people to use, It'll be for six or seven
19:13
Speaker 6: minutes each and I mean that is just going to
19:16
Speaker 6: be an awesome attraction. I do absolutely love. I kind
19:19
Speaker 6: of mentioned earlier, but you know the mini golf course
19:21
Speaker 6: that my wife designed is so fun. It's so cool,
19:25
Speaker 6: and I mean you can just see kids being drawn
19:27
Speaker 6: into it. And then when everyone sees our kids area
19:30
Speaker 6: up and running, I mean I think it's you know,
19:32
Speaker 6: it's all about kids, all about families, making it affordable
19:36
Speaker 6: and easy and accessible as possible for people to attend.
19:39
Speaker 2: Ben Blum is the general manager of the Dirty Birds.
19:41
Speaker 2: I know you're excited about this season.
19:42
Speaker 12: Sir, definitely looking forward to it.
19:44
Speaker 2: Is there any certain thing, I mean, obviously the game.
19:47
Speaker 2: We want to talk to PJ about that, about the
19:48
Speaker 2: on the field thing here in the moment. But what
19:50
Speaker 2: are you most looking forward to this season?
19:52
Speaker 12: I'm looking forward the most to seeing friendly faces, you know,
19:55
Speaker 12: getting back into the swing of things, having the ballpark
19:58
Speaker 12: wide open, being that say, family friendly place for all
20:01
Speaker 12: friends and customers to enjoy.
20:04
Speaker 2: Manager PJ. Phillips, you know last year what didn't exactly
20:07
Speaker 2: turn out like we wanted it to for the fans,
20:10
Speaker 2: uh and for you guys as well. But it's a
20:12
Speaker 2: new season. What are you most excited about this season?
20:14
Speaker 13: Sir, man, I'm gonna be real with you, this is
20:17
Speaker 13: the first time in the long time where I feel
20:20
Speaker 13: felt really good about this season this early. The passion
20:23
Speaker 13: these guys showed me, man, the last couple of days,
20:25
Speaker 13: and the energy they bring is it's crazy, man. So
20:30
Speaker 13: Charleston be ready for this year.
20:31
Speaker 2: I mean, what is it that you see specifically talk
20:34
Speaker 2: about the passion? Is it just in in the in
20:36
Speaker 2: the in the practice sessions. Is if locker room is
20:38
Speaker 2: combination of all where where do you see all this
20:40
Speaker 2: passion coming from.
20:41
Speaker 6: Locker room on the field?
20:43
Speaker 13: I mean, these guys love playing baseball and they showing
20:45
Speaker 13: it Like it was raining the other day and these
20:47
Speaker 13: guys was itching to get back out and do a
20:50
Speaker 13: home run derby, and you rarely see that, you know
20:52
Speaker 13: what I mean. So these guys are excited. I'm definitely
20:54
Speaker 13: excited at So.
20:55
Speaker 2: Break down some of the positions for us, saying some
20:59
Speaker 2: of the some of the things that you're really excited about,
21:01
Speaker 2: biggest strengths and uh uh just from pitching the infield
21:05
Speaker 2: and outfield, just breaking on down for us.
21:07
Speaker 13: I don't give away too much. Absolutely, our bullpen is
21:11
Speaker 13: really legit right now, this early. We have some guys
21:14
Speaker 13: that are gonna be touching the triple digits. So I
21:17
Speaker 13: started pitching. We got two aces, uh, Christopher Gondo, Kiva
21:20
Speaker 13: Sampson leading leading away. And I really wanted to load
21:24
Speaker 13: up on hitting this year because we struggled a little
21:26
Speaker 13: bit last year out the gate. So I really want
21:28
Speaker 13: to focus on getting the bets going and uh showing
21:31
Speaker 13: the fans, you know, we hit the long ball.
21:33
Speaker 2: How many approximately, how many players are new this year
21:37
Speaker 2: returning from last year? I mean just just approximately.
21:39
Speaker 13: I think we have six returners and everybody else would
21:42
Speaker 13: be new, but they but they played in this league,
21:44
Speaker 13: but they just knew that.
21:46
Speaker 2: Okay, Well, and that's and you have that at this
21:48
Speaker 2: level of baseball. I mean, obviously, again we're talking to Andy,
21:50
Speaker 2: she Ben Blum and PJ Phillips. Pj, of course, is
21:53
Speaker 2: the manager of the Dirty Birds. You talked about improving
21:56
Speaker 2: on hitting a little bit because you struggled a little bit.
21:58
Speaker 2: What as a manager and your other coaches, what have
22:00
Speaker 2: you done to make sure the hitting picks up a
22:03
Speaker 2: little bit.
22:04
Speaker 13: I mean, I really went after the guys that knows
22:06
Speaker 13: how to manage the game, especially when guys on base.
22:10
Speaker 13: That that was a big problem last year. I think
22:12
Speaker 13: we lift led the league and leaving guys on base.
22:14
Speaker 13: So I went very focused on guys that light's driving
22:18
Speaker 13: and runs and having fun up there.
22:21
Speaker 2: So Andy and will get back to you just for
22:22
Speaker 2: a moment, And I mean, how excited are you to
22:25
Speaker 2: be bringing this team back to Charleston? You know, because
22:28
Speaker 2: it's I believe it or not, it's been twenty years
22:30
Speaker 2: and this is twenty one years. I guess in this ballpark,
22:32
Speaker 2: I think, am I right about that? To me, you
22:33
Speaker 2: are correct, And I mean for me personally, it's weird.
22:36
Speaker 2: I mean, this is gonna be my twenty second opening day,
22:39
Speaker 2: But I mean I still get chills, I still wake up.
22:43
Speaker 6: I'm not too proud to mat it. I'm dancing. I'm
22:45
Speaker 6: getting excited. I'm pumped for the day to start. I mean,
22:48
Speaker 6: my kids are hugging me. They know that how important
22:50
Speaker 6: Opening Day is, so I mean, it is so exciting,
22:53
Speaker 6: and this is really cool thinking about the team composition
22:57
Speaker 6: and everything that this will be PJ and I's fifth
22:59
Speaker 6: year together. I'm definitely still giving Tillman the MVP in
23:02
Speaker 6: twenty one because when there's only one person voting and
23:05
Speaker 6: someone from his team is the MVP, that doesn't count.
23:08
Speaker 6: So we've had four MVPs in four years, so we'll
23:12
Speaker 6: see who it is this year. But it is awesome.
23:15
Speaker 6: It is so exciting and you know, I mean just
23:18
Speaker 6: feeling it when you walk around the stadium, even before
23:21
Speaker 6: even this morning, walking around, I mean, I'm getting chills
23:23
Speaker 6: because it is just so fun. It's Opening day. Baseball's here.
23:27
Speaker 2: Talk about this team and the relationship with the capital
23:30
Speaker 2: city because I mean, you guys aren't just a team
23:33
Speaker 2: in the city and this has been under your ownership.
23:36
Speaker 2: I mean, the city really embraces this team. But you
23:39
Speaker 2: guys are are happy to be in Charleston, and even
23:42
Speaker 2: you know, I mean even when it's all on the field.
23:45
Speaker 2: You see Dirty Birds player, you guys out in the
23:48
Speaker 2: I mean we had a successful event last Thursday night.
23:51
Speaker 2: I know over in Putnam County where I live, you
23:53
Speaker 2: guys are happy to be part of the community.
23:55
Speaker 6: Oh more than happy. I mean love it. I've loved
23:57
Speaker 6: it here. My family and I moved here three and
23:59
Speaker 6: a half years ago. This will be my personal fourth
24:01
Speaker 6: season kind of day to day here and everything. As
24:05
Speaker 6: much as I talk about how much I love the
24:06
Speaker 6: stadium and how much I love the games, I mean
24:08
Speaker 6: the community is beyond supportive. I mean it is so cool.
24:12
Speaker 6: That's why. I mean I always wear Dirty Bird stuff around.
24:14
Speaker 6: I love it because it looks great. But then I
24:16
Speaker 6: think people just love it and they light up when
24:18
Speaker 6: they see it, and I light up when I see it.
24:20
Speaker 6: So I mean, whether it's at my kid's schools, whether
24:23
Speaker 6: it's you know, out and abound in the community, I
24:25
Speaker 6: mean it's so cool. I've heard from both the Mayor's
24:27
Speaker 6: office as well as Center to Capitol's office already this morning.
24:31
Speaker 6: I mean, the support is in my opinion, second and none.
24:35
Speaker 6: So I mean that's what really really motivates me to
24:39
Speaker 6: what can we do more in the community, at the
24:41
Speaker 6: stadium and on the field.
24:42
Speaker 2: Yeah, you mentioned earlier Andy, the home run derby was
24:45
Speaker 2: this past week. I know there was some some rain.
24:48
Speaker 2: I guess they're towards the end. But how was the
24:50
Speaker 2: home run derby over?
24:52
Speaker 14: Oh?
24:52
Speaker 6: It was absolutely awesome. I mean it was more than
24:54
Speaker 6: towards the end too. I mean Pj put me on
24:57
Speaker 6: ice on our little competition between the two of us.
24:59
Speaker 6: That's why eat me this year. But I mean it
25:01
Speaker 6: was raining from the beginning and it was pouring and
25:04
Speaker 6: these guys brought it out even more. But you know,
25:07
Speaker 6: it was so I mean it was electric. It really was,
25:09
Speaker 6: even with pouring rain, with nasty weather, all of that stuff.
25:13
Speaker 6: I mean hearing these guys cheer for each other, seeing
25:16
Speaker 6: last year's champion gave the ice bath to this year's champion,
25:20
Speaker 6: there were so many of those things that it was like, Man,
25:22
Speaker 6: this is really fun and this is a pretty special team.
25:25
Speaker 2: I want to talk about this competition between you and
25:27
Speaker 2: manager PJ Phillis what's this all about?
25:28
Speaker 6: One last year? So man, that's ep iced me this year.
25:32
Speaker 13: Two years man, and this year I got them, so
25:35
Speaker 13: you know, finally makes you I don't think you tried me.
25:38
Speaker 6: My training started yesterday for next year. Okay, So I
25:42
Speaker 6: mean I'm gonna be ready.
25:43
Speaker 2: After opening up against Laxi tonight. You're gonna have another
25:45
Speaker 2: Grand Slam school day. I know you just had one
25:47
Speaker 2: sort of an as an exhibition last week. Talk about
25:50
Speaker 2: and being I'll bring you in this talk about how
25:51
Speaker 2: much fun those games are for the students us out.
25:54
Speaker 6: Those games are great.
25:55
Speaker 12: You know, we we really enjoyed the exhibition game because
26:00
Speaker 12: we had no rules, so you know we could. PJ
26:03
Speaker 12: was great with keeping time in between endings nice and long,
26:06
Speaker 12: and we did a lot of things to involve the
26:09
Speaker 12: fans the kids, to get them all involved in the game.
26:12
Speaker 12: And you know, I even saw Sip up in the stands,
26:15
Speaker 12: which was fun to see. He went up there and
26:17
Speaker 12: just started walking around and visiting kids and saying hi.
26:20
Speaker 12: And you know, those are just things that you don't
26:22
Speaker 12: traditionally see in baseball. And I'm looking to see how
26:25
Speaker 12: much we can bridge that gap and do those in
26:27
Speaker 12: our games this summer, escially even tomorrow.
26:29
Speaker 2: And you guys, and then you can wait in on
26:31
Speaker 2: this Randy or anybody. You guys know the importance of
26:33
Speaker 2: getting young people involved in baseball because I mean the
26:36
Speaker 2: statistics show that nationwide baseball is just not as popular
26:39
Speaker 2: as it used to be for one reason or another.
26:42
Speaker 2: But you guys are always doing things with I mean
26:44
Speaker 2: every game, there's something going on for the kids. You
26:46
Speaker 2: have days specifically set aside for the kids. But you
26:49
Speaker 2: guys are all about making these youngsters fans and fans
26:53
Speaker 2: hopefully we'll be fans for a lot of time.
26:55
Speaker 6: It's monumental. I mean, it really is kind of the
26:57
Speaker 6: core of our business and at least me personally as well.
26:59
Speaker 6: Before I'm here, the team had been doing one of
27:01
Speaker 6: these school days a year. Now we're doing four, So
27:04
Speaker 6: having that is absolutely monumental. We sponsor and support and
27:08
Speaker 6: our big partners with eighteen little leagues in the Charleston
27:12
Speaker 6: area and always looking to add more. I mean it's
27:14
Speaker 6: the coolest thing seeing the Dirty Birds, but you know,
27:16
Speaker 6: logo on all of these little league jerseys. But we're
27:21
Speaker 6: always looking to do more, always looking to see how
27:23
Speaker 6: we can make the game more fun. I mean, I'm
27:26
Speaker 6: also a coach pitch coach in Little League, and you know,
27:29
Speaker 6: so whether it's from that angle or by all means
27:30
Speaker 6: from the Dirty Birds, I mean It is monumental of
27:33
Speaker 6: getting kids that are excited about playing but also excited
27:36
Speaker 6: about working in it, excited about coming to the game.
27:38
Speaker 6: You know, not everyone may be a shortstop or a
27:42
Speaker 6: pitcher or even want to hit or anything like that.
27:44
Speaker 6: But if they're pumped about the game in general, both
27:47
Speaker 6: in terms of being around it working in it, I mean,
27:50
Speaker 6: that's still a win in my book.
27:51
Speaker 2: Well, I just want to say, you're talking about being
27:53
Speaker 2: a fan. I see Pj's rocking the Dodgers had over there.
27:57
Speaker 2: Can we just say something about my Cincinnati Reds, who
27:59
Speaker 2: are playing some pretty good baseball right now.
28:04
Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't know. I don't know if I'm buying
28:07
Speaker 6: the NL Central right now, so I don't know. I'm
28:09
Speaker 6: still bommed to the dog Dodgers beat the Phillies in
28:12
Speaker 6: the playoffs last year, So still bombed. But uh yeah,
28:16
Speaker 6: well we'll reserve judgment on the NL SENTI twenty First,
28:20
Speaker 6: let's keep that in mind.
28:21
Speaker 2: Yes, I urge you go over to Dirty Birds baseball
28:24
Speaker 2: dot com and follow the Birds on social media for
28:26
Speaker 2: not only scheduled but also their promotions and just looking
28:28
Speaker 2: at some of what you have coming up this season,
28:30
Speaker 2: among other things. You're gonna do a Jason Williams bobblehead night,
28:35
Speaker 2: the runaway beer truck. Owen Schmidt is going to be
28:38
Speaker 2: there at one point. You got bark in the park
28:40
Speaker 2: throughout the season, Bald and Beautiful night. That one stuck
28:43
Speaker 2: out to me. What's that all about.
28:44
Speaker 6: Well, we've got a handful of balds in our office,
28:47
Speaker 6: so we're excited to really have them lead the charge.
28:50
Speaker 6: We're gonna have a bald parade on the fields pregame.
28:54
Speaker 6: I think we're gonna have some shaving cream and whatnot.
28:56
Speaker 6: Has a fun little giveaway and really just a good celebration.
29:00
Speaker 6: Make sure plenty of hats are out there if it's
29:02
Speaker 6: a sunny day.
29:03
Speaker 2: And anybody scorched out.
29:05
Speaker 6: I'm just having a lot of fun there. But you know,
29:08
Speaker 6: like you mentioned too, both you know, really and truly
29:10
Speaker 6: with Jason Williams, with Owen Schmidt, with Mothman. I mean,
29:13
Speaker 6: a lot of the things we're doing are really and
29:15
Speaker 6: truly celebrations of West Virginia as well. I mean in
29:19
Speaker 6: their own kind of way. Yeah, exactly, so, I mean
29:23
Speaker 6: those are really things that are near, you know, that
29:25
Speaker 6: are very I think people have a lot of pride
29:28
Speaker 6: in and those people have a lot of pride in.
29:30
Speaker 6: But you know, as I said the other day, Jason
29:32
Speaker 6: Williams will be in attendance. Owen Schmidt will be in attendance.
29:35
Speaker 6: Still waiting to hear back from the Mothman.
29:37
Speaker 2: Okay, whether or not he'll be there exact work, and
29:39
Speaker 2: his agent's really tough from exactly I understanding. Tex says,
29:43
Speaker 2: do you guys ever do open tryouts for the team.
29:45
Speaker 2: There's a lot of talent here who never attended college.
29:48
Speaker 3: You know what.
29:48
Speaker 6: So our league had an open tryout a couple of
29:51
Speaker 6: weeks ago. It's something that we've tossed around of if
29:54
Speaker 6: it would be better to have, you know, ten local
29:57
Speaker 6: open tryouts versus one for the whole league league. So
30:01
Speaker 6: to answer the question, literally, we do not have anything
30:04
Speaker 6: on the map, and I don't think we've done one here.
30:07
Speaker 6: I know, again, we were planning on it. This was
30:08
Speaker 6: four years ago, but rain blah blah blah. So you know,
30:11
Speaker 6: something that we're always kind of thinking about. But as
30:13
Speaker 6: it stands now, it's one league wide open tryout.
30:17
Speaker 2: Other Texas there's a rise in women's professional softball. Have
30:20
Speaker 2: you ever considered starting a professional softball team.
30:23
Speaker 6: I mean, I'm always I've literally just said to someone
30:25
Speaker 6: the other day, the more softball that we can have
30:27
Speaker 6: at the ballpark, the better. So I mean, that is
30:29
Speaker 6: something that is certainly a thought. And this guy knows
30:35
Speaker 6: as much about that world as anyone around here. So
30:38
Speaker 6: that is something talking about PJ and his family. But anyways,
30:43
Speaker 6: that is something that we certainly, you know, have an
30:46
Speaker 6: eye on.
30:47
Speaker 2: And again, opening night is tonight at Gomart Ballpark, So
30:51
Speaker 2: I'll just give you guys an opportunity to say any
30:53
Speaker 2: things on your mind. Ben, We'll start with you. Just
30:55
Speaker 2: come on out, Yeah, come on out.
30:57
Speaker 12: Gates open at five point thirty. We look forward to
30:59
Speaker 12: have a fun, eventful evening and we're really excited to
31:04

31:06
Speaker 13: All Right, PJ fans and Charleston, please come out support
31:10
Speaker 13: the team. The guys really needed. The guys really love
31:12
Speaker 13: it when y'all come out in a cheer for them
31:14
Speaker 13: in This year is one of them years where y'all
31:16
Speaker 13: gonna look back and say, yeah, PJ told you so.
31:19
Speaker 2: So write that down. April twenty first, twenty twenty six,
31:22
Speaker 2: PJ told you so. Andy will close with you.
31:24
Speaker 6: Well gates opening five thirty the games at six thirty five.
31:28
Speaker 6: The first thousand fans will get either fan chain and

31:34
Speaker 6: got all sorts of other fun decorations, items, new events,
31:38
Speaker 6: new things, really really focused on kids at the ballpark.
31:42
Speaker 6: So I'm just really really pumped to see people there,
31:44
Speaker 6: to see people enjoying it. And yeah, I mean the
31:48
Speaker 6: energy on the field I think will translate to the
31:51
Speaker 6: stands and vice versa. I mean, it is really fun
31:54
Speaker 6: being around.
31:54
Speaker 2: These guys, and we don't want to forget that. You
31:56
Speaker 2: have Marshall and WVU coming up over at Gomart Ballpark

Speaker 6: cut the tension with the knife that's in the air,
32:06
Speaker 6: I mean it is, that's a fun atmosphere.
32:08
Speaker 2: My Thundering Herd needs to get it in gear because
32:11
Speaker 2: WVU is playing very good baseball right now, and they've

39:19
Speaker 2: As a matter of fact, as I said, I did
39:21
Speaker 2: not know what roadblocks even was. And I rely on
39:28
Speaker 2: Ryan Nicholson, one of the voices that you of course
39:30
Speaker 2: he produces a lot of our shows here, but you
39:32
Speaker 2: also hear him on hotline each weekday after I rely

Speaker 2: because I had no clue what roadblocks. Was learned a

Speaker 2: little from JB, learned a lot from Ryan. So there
39:42
Speaker 2: you go. So now as to why I'm here today,
39:46
Speaker 2: well it's complicated. As I told you guys, I was
39:52
Speaker 2: diagnosed with cancer a couple months ago, started treatments last Thursday. Now,
39:58
Speaker 2: the treatments are supposed to be on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
40:04
Speaker 2: That's what I agreed upon, and somehow, the folks and
40:06
Speaker 2: it happens you're dealing with humans at the oncologist office
40:10
Speaker 2: got screwed up a little bit and they scheduled me
40:13
Speaker 2: for one yesterday, which I obviously missed because they called
40:16
Speaker 2: me at ten thirty and said, are you gonna be
40:17
Speaker 2: able to make your appointment? I said no, I'm at work.
40:21
Speaker 2: So we got it straightened out. Again, dealing with humans,
40:25
Speaker 2: things happen. So I figured, I mean, I'm gonna be here,
40:28
Speaker 2: may as well do the show. So I'm scheduled for
40:31
Speaker 2: another treatment on Thursday, meaning I will be away from
40:34
Speaker 2: the local show on Thursday. Dale Cooper will sub for me,
40:37
Speaker 2: but I should be okay for midday. I will be
40:41
Speaker 2: here tomorrow on the local show, and Friday, but not Thursday.
40:45
Speaker 2: As I said, Coop will sit in for me Thursdays
40:48
Speaker 2: and a few more Tuesdays and Thursday, that is, unless
40:51
Speaker 2: the schedule somehow gets messed up again. In that case,
40:54
Speaker 2: I'll be I'll be here. I will say. I've had
40:57
Speaker 2: a lot of people that have asked me about I've
40:59
Speaker 2: only had one treatment, you know, one radiation. I have
41:01
Speaker 2: a lot of people that have asked me, well, how
41:03
Speaker 2: you doing whatever? And I had had to treat my
41:05
Speaker 2: last Thursday, came back to work, zero issues until last night.
41:12
Speaker 2: I got home, settled in, you know, eating a little dinner,
41:15
Speaker 2: and suddenly my legs didn't work anymore. And I'm somebody
41:20
Speaker 2: who's never had a lot of ailments. I've never had
41:22
Speaker 2: a broken bone in my life or anything other than
41:25
Speaker 2: having my appendix taken out and my tonsils removed. I
41:28
Speaker 2: really haven't had any sort of medical issues my entire life,
41:31
Speaker 2: and all of a sudden I get up in my
41:33
Speaker 2: in my legs don't move anymore. Did a little research
41:35
Speaker 2: and find out that on some people and only undergone
41:38
Speaker 2: one treatment, that apparently a rubbery legs situation is not
41:43
Speaker 2: uncommon so I told Ryan, I said, if by some
41:46
Speaker 2: chance there should be a fire breakout of the building,
41:49
Speaker 2: it's his responsibility to carry me out of the building
41:52
Speaker 2: because legs. Legs aren't working very well right now.
41:58
Speaker 20: Uh.
41:58
Speaker 2: Tex says on this situation with the EMTs, a guy
42:01
Speaker 2: who allegedly jumped on the ammals was dragged under the
42:03
Speaker 2: anbults for two miles, lost in an arm multiple picks and
42:06
Speaker 2: videos of the blood trail, also nine to one one
42:08
Speaker 2: call logs and the paramedics abmitting they heard a man
42:10
Speaker 2: screaming in their car being told to pull over by
42:13
Speaker 2: nine to one one operator. They did not pull over.
42:15
Speaker 2: I did see a video of that, and it was
42:18
Speaker 2: a horrific video. The video that I saw was not
42:22
Speaker 2: that long, but somebody just showed it to me. I
42:25
Speaker 2: don't share things like that. Somebody came up to me
42:27
Speaker 2: and said, hey, have you seen this? And I watched it.
42:29
Speaker 2: So there we are. Tex says. Independent leagues are typically
42:34

45:49
Speaker 2: if you plan on voting in the primary election, which
45:52
Speaker 2: is three weeks from today, today's the deadline to get
45:55
Speaker 2: yourself registered, change your party, update your voting information, ceter
46:00
Speaker 2: or whatever it is you need to do. You can
46:02
Speaker 2: go to the county clerk's office in person, or simply
46:05
Speaker 2: do it online. It's probably a whole lot easier. Go
46:08
Speaker 2: vote wv dot com. It's very, very simple. And of
46:12
Speaker 2: course this controversy continues to loom about registry. About registered independence. Now,
46:20
Speaker 2: if you are registered as an independent in the state
46:24
Speaker 2: of West Virginia, you cannot do as you've done in
46:29
Speaker 2: the past, walk into your polling place, either on election
46:32
Speaker 2: day or the days leading up to the election early
46:34
Speaker 2: voting and request a Republican ballot. That's the way it
46:37
Speaker 2: has been. If you I'm a registered independent, you walk
46:41
Speaker 2: in and you say, I'm a registered independent, but I
46:43
Speaker 2: would like a Republican ballot. You can no longer do that.
46:46
Speaker 2: You can ask for a democratic ballot, or you can
46:48
Speaker 2: remain non partisan. And it is worth noting that the
46:53
Speaker 2: poll workers are not allowed. It is against state code.
46:58
Speaker 2: If I walk in as an due and I say
47:02
Speaker 2: I'm a registered I mean chances are in West Virginia
47:04
Speaker 2: you're going to know your poll workers anyway. You know
47:06
Speaker 2: it is West Virginia. But if I walk in and
47:09
Speaker 2: I'm a registered independent, poll workers by law are not
47:12
Speaker 2: allowed to say, oh, you're an independent, would you like
47:14
Speaker 2: a Republican or Democrat ballot? They are not allowed to
47:17
Speaker 2: do that. So if you walk in and you say,
47:21
Speaker 2: I am a registered Independent, but I want a Democrat ballot,
47:23
Speaker 2: no problem. If you say I'd like a Republican ballot,
47:27
Speaker 2: they are going to tell you no, because that's that's
47:32
Speaker 2: the new rules according to the Republican Executive Committee that
47:35
Speaker 2: they passed not long ago. Now you'll be allowed to
47:38
Speaker 2: vote for your judges, board of education, et cetera. And again,
47:43
Speaker 2: this was a decision that was made by the state
47:45
Speaker 2: Republican Party's Executive Committee a year or so ago. And
47:50
Speaker 2: it's their party. They can make the rules, I think,
47:55
Speaker 2: and they didn't ask me. I think they made a
47:57
Speaker 2: huge mistake. So it just want to make sure that
48:00
Speaker 2: everybody knows that. Before the primary election, again, somebody asked
48:05
Speaker 2: me the other day that kept saying. They said, why
48:07
Speaker 2: do you all keep talking about this? I said, because
48:08
Speaker 2: I know what's going to happen on election day somewhere
48:12
Speaker 2: in West Virginia, maybe here in Kanawa County, maybe Putnham County.
48:15
Speaker 2: Somebody is going to go into their polling place and
48:18
Speaker 2: they're going to say, I'm a registered Independent, but I'd
48:21
Speaker 2: like a Republican ballot, and they are going to be
48:23
Speaker 2: told no, and they're going to take it out on
48:26
Speaker 2: seventy five or eighty year old Hattie. I keep changing
48:28
Speaker 2: the name. By the way, who is the poll worker?
48:31
Speaker 2: And it's not the poll worker's fault. So if you
48:34
Speaker 2: are a registered independent, you cannot request a Republican ballot.
48:38
Speaker 2: The Republican Executive Committee made that rule a couple of
48:41
Speaker 2: years ago. And as I said, don't take it out
48:42
Speaker 2: on the poll workers, the county clerks, the legislature, they
48:46
Speaker 2: did not make these rules. The Republican Party did. And
48:52
Speaker 2: also remember that this is new. You have to have
48:57
Speaker 2: a photo ID in order to vote. That can be
49:01
Speaker 2: a driver's license, could be a passport, a military ID
49:06
Speaker 2: as long as it cut a photo a student ID,
49:10
Speaker 2: anything issued by the government or somebody and if you
49:13
Speaker 2: don't have a photo ID and you're registered to vote,
49:17
Speaker 2: you can get a photo ID at your county clerk
49:20
Speaker 2: free of charge. And I know this because in a
49:25
Speaker 2: past life, as you well know, I'll disclose your outwork
49:27
Speaker 2: for the Secretary of State's office. And the first election
49:31
Speaker 2: that ID in general was required for was the road
49:34
Speaker 2: bond election in twenty eighteen, the Roads to Prosperity. You
49:37
Speaker 2: remember that that was the first year that that was
49:40
Speaker 2: the first election that you were required to have ID
49:45
Speaker 2: to vote. And at that time there were sixteen seventeen
49:47
Speaker 2: different things you could use. Well, now it has to
49:49
Speaker 2: have your picture on it, Okay, so just know that
49:53
Speaker 2: before you go in. If you're somebody who leaves their
49:56
Speaker 2: wallet or their purse in the car or whatever, don't
49:59
Speaker 2: do that. Have your driver's license with I can't. I mean,
50:02
Speaker 2: everybody's different. I've been carrying a wallet since I was
50:06
Speaker 2: like five. Okay. The two old man things that I
50:10
Speaker 2: did as a kid. I always wore a watch and
50:12
Speaker 2: I still wear a watch. And I carried a wallet.
50:15
Speaker 2: Didn't have a lot in it when you're five years old,
50:18
Speaker 2: but I've always carried I mean, these people that say
50:21
Speaker 2: I left my wallet in the car. I just I
50:23
Speaker 2: don't get that. But everybody's different. I understand that. But
50:26
Speaker 2: the photo IDs are free at your county clerk's office
50:29
Speaker 2: if you're a registered voter. So one of the things
50:33
Speaker 2: that I always got a little irritated, Well, you're disenfranchising voters. No,
50:38
Speaker 2: you're They're free, and I don't know how you survive
50:45
Speaker 2: in life without some sort of ID. So you can
50:48
Speaker 2: miss me with that. Disenfranching voters. Disenfranchising voters argument also
50:52
Speaker 2: worth noting, which I talked about on mid midday yesterday.
50:56
Speaker 2: Poll workers cannot refuse to allow anyone to vote, all right.
51:01
Speaker 2: If you show up with nothing, they're still gonna let
51:03
Speaker 2: you vote. It'll just be a provincial ballot because by law,
51:07
Speaker 2: poll workers cannot tell you you can't vote. All right.
51:12
Speaker 2: I'll say, okay, here's your provision. The more you know
