Transcript
- 0:06Hello, what's your least favorite scary movie, ding.
- 0:10Ding, ding, ding. Welcome to watch at least
- 0:13favorite scary movie. The podcast, where we talked
- 0:16about the good, the bad, the ugly, and the Absurd, and all of
- 0:19our favorite and least favorite scary movies, as we believe
- 0:22every horror movie rightfully, has its fanbase, even if we
- 0:24don't always get it. My name is Travis.
- 0:26My name is Jessie. And today, we are going to be
- 0:29talking Talking about a little movie called, urban legend.
- 0:33You know that little thing? Yeah, we were taking it back in
- 0:36time. Now, we are no longer in the
- 0:392000s. We spend a lot of time in 2022,
- 0:44last month we did. And, and last year and last
- 0:47year, 365 days. In fact, he'll like more.
- 0:53Yeah. Also we're out here recording in
- 0:56our living room, again, talia's still recovering.
- 1:00I'm doing really good though. Yeah, she's doing really well.
- 1:02She might be done recovering. Well, this portion of her
- 1:07recovery by the end of this week, we're hoping, but if you
- 1:11hear her, you hear cats, running around fighting playing.
- 1:14That's just because we were having to do this for right now,
- 1:17so it's just kind of what it is. But let's talk about
- 1:22announcements Jesse. Do you have any announcements?
- 1:25No. No.
- 1:26Okay okay. Well let's talk about the polis.
- 1:31Mm-hmm I got this one memorized because it's simple.
- 1:35Last week we ended our Halloween coverage with Halloween ins and
- 1:39we wanted to know, do you guys want to see more Halloween
- 1:43movies? So Instagram is where it was
- 1:47divisive. It was split 50-50.
- 1:50Wow. Yeah, you know I didn't expect
- 1:53it to be that torn, honestly. But on Twitter it's 100% know.
- 1:59Personally I want to see more because it's my favorite and I
- 2:02don't care how bad they get. I still like to watch them even
- 2:07the ones that we shot on actually, I don't think we ever
- 2:11really shat on any and our coverage.
- 2:16You know I yeah you did. We're did you.
- 2:19I don't know how that's not a fan 6.
- 2:22Okay, that was it. Well, okay, okay, sure.
- 2:25Well, I had a lot of time baddy baddy, and it has Paul Rudd, so
- 2:28it does have a lot of good things going for it for you at
- 2:31least, but we'll talk about our rankings on that later this
- 2:35month, whenever we pass the torch over the screen.
- 2:38Yeah, it. Yeah.
- 2:40What about you? What do you want to see?
- 2:42Do you want to see more? I'm okay.
- 2:45With what we have, you're okay with just leaving it, you want
- 2:48to end it with Cory? I wouldn't be mad if they
- 2:51brought more Corey back. No, here's the thing, here's the
- 2:55thing. If they could come up with a
- 2:56compelling story, I'd watch it a compelling.
- 3:01Cory, you know, that's not what I said of compelling Court.
- 3:05I agree. If they even came up with a
- 3:07compelling Cory, I think that would be all on board.
- 3:11No, I just like, I wouldn't be opposed, but You're not asking
- 3:18for more, but if they brought more you wouldn't say no.
- 3:21Yeah. Like I was very exhausted when
- 3:24they announced the latest iteration of Spider-Man, but
- 3:28they didn't kill Uncle Ben again, and they finally cast
- 3:31somebody who's both a good Peter and a good Spider-Man.
- 3:35So, you know, that's fair. See you can like I'll being
- 3:40open, you can bring new energy into a franchise.
- 3:43Yeah. Which is why I guess this one
- 3:45kind of did because like Halloween We did not perform
- 3:48nearly as well at the box office before this new Trilogy, from
- 3:54what I remember from our coverage that is either way,
- 3:56people got excited about it and then ended on a bad note for a
- 4:00lot of people's. Oh, I don't know.
- 4:02Okay, cool. Alright, that's it for a pole.
- 4:05So you ready to talk about? Urban legend.
- 4:08Oh, buddy. Am I?
- 4:10So I am aware that this is going to end up being a very dressy
- 4:16month. And this was my pick.
- 4:19However, I love this movie. I was very shocked when you
- 4:23ended up on this one, but well, we didn't know it's a weird
- 4:26month. We have this one.
- 4:28We have the patreon one. We have scream and then we have
- 4:31a Valentine's Day episode that we're doing.
- 4:34Yeah. Maybe next week.
- 4:35Yeah, and it's just kind of funny that I don't know.
- 4:39I just I wanted to felt right for February.
- 4:43So very, very busy this month. Yeah, we are.
- 4:45We were riding those vibes then Right now we're starting with
- 4:48the like late 90s early 2000s. Washer post screen Vibes stuff
- 4:54like that, okay? So urban legend, Jesse.
- 4:58Okay. And everybody listening.
- 5:00Hello, urban legend, came out, September 25th 1998 watched
- 5:07weird that came out in 1998, or that came out in September.
- 5:11It came out in September. Well, okay, that's the weird
- 5:13part that's going to be the year.
- 5:15Why? Why is that weird?
- 5:17Hello. I just don't think about movie
- 5:19is existing in September. That is one year.
- 5:23And one day before I broke both of my wrists.
- 5:27Yeah, you know the day. Well, because we spent my little
- 5:30sister's birthday in the ER oh that's so sad.
- 5:37She doesn't remember we watched this on a DVD that you cannot
- 5:43currently stream this as of when we watched it.
- 5:47Which was January 29th 2023. I know that this usually has
- 5:52streaming options so it's usually on like who time so
- 5:56it'll find its way back here in leather demands those royalties.
- 5:59Yes, you had to pay up. It's all on Jared Leto.
- 6:03He's the one that's leading the charge on that.
- 6:05If you don't own it and obviously, there's no way to
- 6:09stream it, you can rinse it, you can run it on an app Apple TV,
- 6:13Amazon YouTube and red box and granted, we say this, Every
- 6:17month. But this is coming out at the
- 6:20beginning of February and the streaming options change
- 6:23generally at the beginning of months.
- 6:25Yeah. Who knows where it'll be when
- 6:27this episode releases. Very true.
- 6:29It's exhausting keeping up with all the streaming services now,
- 6:32and the release dates, I try and do it for the ones that we
- 6:34subscribe to, but I can't do that for this right here at the
- 6:37beginning of the month. Yeah.
- 6:39So this is written by Silvio horta.
- 6:43Directed by Jamie blinks. So here's the funny thing about
- 6:47Jamie blanks, this isn't the only time this month, we're
- 6:50going to be talking about him and he has non-directed very
- 6:53many movies. So we just happen to pick his
- 6:56entire span of horror filmography, the 90 Edge movie,
- 6:59it is because I know the director of the next to how you
- 7:03doing. Okay, then it's Valentine.
- 7:07Yeah yeah. He's doing a back for back with
- 7:10a with Jamie blanks here. So I think that's kind of
- 7:13interesting and weirdly coincidental, I had no idea it
- 7:17was supposed that plan. Yeah, it's just we've been.
- 7:22We've watched Valentine probably like three times in the past six
- 7:25months, for whatever reason and it just felt right to cover it.
- 7:29Yes it was because it's a good Valentine's Day movie and I feel
- 7:34like it's Now, finally, getting the appreciation, however, when
- 7:37that movie first came out, I fucking loved it.
- 7:39And you watched it for the first time.
- 7:40Last year I did cause you were like, surely.
- 7:43You've seen him? Because it's starring David
- 7:45banana Ranna. David bananas and David Bowen,
- 7:49not bones. Yeah, it's got a weird Cass.
- 7:53I can't wait to talk about that one.
- 7:54Yeah. But for now, speaking of casts,
- 7:58this this cast is pretty stacked.
- 8:00This cast is pretty stack. Okay, first off, hold on, I got
- 8:04music by For young. Sorry I was trying to get us
- 8:06back on track. Yeah, you're good.
- 8:09Special effects makeup. I have a couple people here.
- 8:11I've got the key artists that's Dan Gibson.
- 8:14I have the coordinator. That's Dean Stewart.
- 8:16And then I have the supervisor that's Martin mallove or okay?
- 8:21Alright. So yes, the cast on this thing
- 8:23is fucking crazy. First off, we have Jared Leto,
- 8:27playing Paul Gardner, it's always weird talking about Jared
- 8:31Leto with this stuff, like for him.
- 8:35In a word. It's basically this brief
- 8:38appearance in American Psycho. And I guess if you want to count
- 8:41Requiem for a Dream, I mean it's a pretty horrifying movie, it's
- 8:46a very horrifying movie. I have not watched that movie in
- 8:49a long time and can I swallow brief Requiem for a Dream story?
- 8:53Yeah, go ahead. Well, it's mainly related to the
- 8:55music associated with Lux aeterna.
- 8:58Yeah, there is a great time to my mom was visiting and we went
- 9:02out to The Distillery District and We're just chatting and I
- 9:06wasn't paying attention to my phone going through its Shuffle
- 9:11and that song came on because sometimes I like to listen to
- 9:14music and feel sad. That's a weird time to save one
- 9:17like in your spot. Okay.
- 9:18But if you want to listen to music and feel sad but I have
- 9:22better songs for that but you know I can't I can't deny this
- 9:26is a good one for it. Go ahead.
- 9:27But anyway that's playing as you're trying to park, it is a
- 9:30very tight parking spot and so we got really quiet to let you
- 9:34concentrate. Great.
- 9:35And then it's just like you straightening up backing in and
- 9:39out. And it going to do, do, do, do
- 9:41do. And there was a bottle in the
- 9:44spot to and I was like, oh my God, like, it was like a slow mo
- 9:47seeing right there. I remember that.
- 9:50That was funny. Okay.
- 9:53Alicia Witt, please, Natalie Simon Rebecca.
- 9:56Gayheart plays. Brenda Bates.
- 9:58Yay. Yeah, she does.
- 10:00Yeah, Rebecca Gayheart. Do you want to tell them about
- 10:03the drinking game? Played us.
- 10:06Yeah. Well, there's a drinking game
- 10:08for urban legend and it has one of my all-time favorite rules,
- 10:11which is just drink when Rebecca Gayheart.
- 10:13Yeah. And you just fill in that blank.
- 10:15However, you want, you let your heart tell you and I think it
- 10:18needs to apply to all Rebecca Gayheart movies.
- 10:20I agree. I think it's funny the story and
- 10:22that drinking game because like the person's like, I realize how
- 10:24stupid this sounds. But like I saw it from another
- 10:26drinking game and I can't tell if that was like a typo from
- 10:29that one, or if like really just because Rebecca Gayheart, I
- 10:33think just because Rebecca Gayheart.
- 10:35I mean, after watching this movie, I could see I don't
- 10:37really know many other movies that she's in if I'm being
- 10:41honest on Breaker. Huh, jawbreaker oh jawbreaker.
- 10:44Yeah, I've only watched that one time though and she's one of the
- 10:48sisters and scream to. Yeah, she's from like a very
- 10:53close to my hometown. She's a little Kentucky girl.
- 10:55Oh really Hazard Kentucky. Yeah, wow.
- 10:58It's like less than an hour away from where I grew up.
- 11:00You know what? Some of that Twain comes out a
- 11:03little bit at the end of the movie?
- 11:05Ddaeng ddaeng ddaeng. Yeah, and she's got her.
- 11:08What? She like, lets out 100% who she
- 11:10is. Yeah, I love it.
- 11:13Michael Rosenbaum, please, Parker Riley.
- 11:16I fuckin love Michael Rosenbaum, only because my first experience
- 11:20with him was, he's the flash the voice of The Flash, and the DC
- 11:27Justice League TV series. Okay.
- 11:29And he's also the guy and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
- 11:33That's like gun, crazy. That is like robbing their bar.
- 11:38Do you remember that? Episode These Stadium?
- 11:41Okay. It's gun fever.
- 11:43The gun fever episode. Okay, yeah.
- 11:45And he's like, like fake dating D.
- 11:48Basically? Yeah, just so we can like, yeah,
- 11:51get into the bar and still. Yeah, I fucking love.
- 11:53Michael Rosenbaum, Joshua. Jackson plays, Damon Brooks.
- 11:57That's Dawson's Creek, right? - yes, if it is.
- 12:01Pacey, is pacing like a character in Dawson.
- 12:05Yeah, I've never watched us and sweet so I have no idea.
- 12:08I wouldn't say I watch Dawson's Creek.
- 12:12It was often on the TV because I really liked the theme song.
- 12:16So you like the theme song so much that you watch the
- 12:19episodes. It would be more like one of
- 12:21those that like I'd have it like on will I be playing with my
- 12:24Barbies or whatever? So it gets all wow.
- 12:27Play with your Barbies and watching Dawson's Creek.
- 12:33Okay, Tara Reid, places. Asha, Thomas.
- 12:37And here's where it gets interesting, we have Robert
- 12:39Englund playing Professor William Wexler, William Wexler,
- 12:45Daniel Harris, playing Tosh. I don't know how to say her last
- 12:50name, so I'm not even gonna try old gu a any RI Winery.
- 12:56Okay. I can't visualize that in my
- 12:58head and you look at it Go, Winery Winery, depends on like
- 13:03your heritage, I guess canary. No, it's where the other and
- 13:11let's see who's this last person?
- 13:13We're at a Dave or no Loretta Devine playing Reese Wilson the
- 13:17badass security. Hey yeah, guard or whatever,
- 13:21who's not a cop, which kind of threw me off because I for some
- 13:24reason I always remember her being a cop okay Jesse but did I
- 13:28booked a budget? Yes a budget.
- 13:32This is 14 million dollars which is not too bad, really?
- 13:36Yeah. It's see, open them box office
- 13:39of one. No, I'm sorry, 10.5 million,
- 13:42okay, and worldwide, gross of 72.5, hell yeah.
- 13:47Five point six. Oh nine DB it's 6:00.
- 13:50That's not bad criminal. I mean you might be a little bit
- 13:55biased honestly but I've never been biased about anything in my
- 13:58life ever. Especially not horror movies.
- 14:01No especially Wednesday. You grew up with and hold so
- 14:05dearly too special. I once met fall into my
- 14:08preferred sub-genre. Exactly.
- 14:09Yeah. This is all you teen screaming.
- 14:11Shit. Okay.
- 14:13Well, I've got a nice little list of three movies that came
- 14:16out the same year that are very similar.
- 14:18Okay, first off since this movie and everybody online that
- 14:24reviewed. It basically is like it tries to
- 14:28be scream or I Know What You Did Last Summer.
- 14:30I wants to be Kevin Williamson. Well, I chose a Kevin Williamson
- 14:33movie. Yay.
- 14:35Well not exactly. It's based off of Of like his
- 14:37people but it's I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.
- 14:42Yeah, because the first one, I came out, he didn't write this
- 14:44one. I think he you may have like
- 14:46worked on a little bit but it's not even his characters because
- 14:49it's based off of a book. Unless he took like Fallen
- 14:53officer was fucking piss about the movie adaptation.
- 14:56I'm pretty sure we talked about. Yeah, we did.
- 14:58That was a long one time ago that we talked about that movie.
- 15:02I can't. I don't even know if he like use
- 15:04the same characters City. Have you read the book?
- 15:08No. Okay, I obviously haven't so, I
- 15:11don't know. Well, it came out in November
- 15:1213th 1998. So this is a weird one where
- 15:17they have the budget listed as 65 million.
- 15:19We talked about this in her episode a few months back, it's
- 15:23not right. That's like, for some reason,
- 15:26they factored in the cost of, yeah, like, emotional
- 15:30advertising and like renting out the theaters and stuff like
- 15:32that. So if you see that number out
- 15:34there, that's not accurate. The real number is 25.
- 15:37Million which is more in line, worldwide gross, 40 million 4.7
- 15:42on IMDb. I think that's kind of low.
- 15:46I think this I think it's a fun in these one more point for Jack
- 15:50Black alone. Yeah, but we talked about it, if
- 15:53Jack Black was a force or not at that time.
- 15:57Yeah we did. Was he, where did we land, did?
- 16:00We establish it. He's not enforced at dizzy.
- 16:02I'm not going to say that it's the greatest movie ever, but it
- 16:06might be a tribute. Oh my god, dude, I almost like
- 16:11went into that without even, like I was just gonna like,
- 16:15seriously, discuss that. Yeah, okay.
- 16:21I think that he was still Force check box.
- 16:23Of course, no matter what point in his life, he came out the
- 16:26womb of for exactly. Okay.
- 16:28Next movie. Bride of Chucky?
- 16:31Yay. Yeah, because we get like a
- 16:33little bit of Brad Dourif in this movie, too.
- 16:36Yeah. And that's all.
- 16:38Fun little movie. We watched the we went through
- 16:42the whole Child's Play series. Like for me.
- 16:44I or you know I actually kind of was my first time for a lot of
- 16:49them but Bride of Chucky was one that I remember watching when it
- 16:53came out this is like a weird time when I don't think movies
- 16:57really came out as quickly as they do now where they took like
- 17:02a year at least a year. It always felt like it took
- 17:06forever before you could physically on something.
- 17:09And I remember like this is playing on TV like on like we
- 17:13had like the pay-per-view thing and she know we did not have it
- 17:18legally, which is kind of cool but you know I just remember
- 17:24like that's how I also watched Valentine because of these like
- 17:27weird little like these channels.
- 17:29All right, that came out October 16th 1998, another budget of 25
- 17:34million. Okay, worldwide, gross of 15.6
- 17:37million, and five Five on IMDb. I think that that's rude
- 17:40honestly. Yeah that's a fucking amazing
- 17:43movie that we brought in Jennifer Tilly.
- 17:47Okay. If we're if we're talking about
- 17:50Jack Black being a force. I think we need to also consider
- 17:52is Jennifer Tilly of forest. Yes, she is now.
- 17:56Thanks to that movie but not she was not prior.
- 18:01What was she known for before that?
- 18:02I don't even know. Like to me, like she didn't
- 18:04exist until Bride of Chucky happen.
- 18:06And okay, well there are plenty of meta jokes about Rolls prior
- 18:09to the child's play franchise but I know.
- 18:13But what was it? I know that.
- 18:14She's like a big-time poker player.
- 18:17Yeah, that's true. Like because I've seen her
- 18:19Michaels Jenna Fischer. Oh really?
- 18:21Yeah. Wow.
- 18:22Maybe they play poker together and the final one.
- 18:26This one actually is a Kevin Williamson movie but I wanted to
- 18:31choose not H2O is going to know. It's all scream too.
- 18:37I can't remember if he was involved.
- 18:38That one or not. I think he was either way.
- 18:42I don't want use that one because we're going to be
- 18:43talking about it next month. So it's soon.
- 18:46That's true. And he also did Halloween H2O
- 18:49this year, but I didn't choose that one because we've already
- 18:51talked about that one too. This one's The Faculty, which,
- 18:54oh shit. What year for Kevin Williamson?
- 18:58I know, right. Like that actually is like that
- 19:00was this little slice of time right here.
- 19:03Like the late 90s. He owned it 100%.
- 19:07I feel like a lot of My taste in movies is shaped by Kevin
- 19:11Williamson's writing. Well, yeah, cuz he just straight
- 19:14up shapes. Oh, I of like, how the genre
- 19:20went after scream. Basically, it really like
- 19:23influence. How people wrote movies after
- 19:24that, which is can, you know, kind of like this right here
- 19:27like this movie. A lot of people, it takes a lot
- 19:30of inspiration from Scream. Oh yeah.
- 19:32Okay. That came out Christmas Day,
- 19:341998. Okay, budget of 15 million.
- 19:38So 1 million more than this movie and worldwide, gross of
- 19:424.2 million. Okay, 6.50, 90 be okay.
- 19:46That's the highest of them all. Yeah, that's a pretty decent one
- 19:49movie. Have you ever watched it?
- 19:51I can't remember. I feel like I have, but it's
- 19:53been, you know, it's different for him because like, well, I
- 19:58mean not really because it's still like high school team
- 20:00bullshit, but like it's not a slasher.
- 20:03Don't think it's like aliens. Yeah.
- 20:05It's alien. Yeah, I guess it's okay.
- 20:07Alien naked woman running around or something like that.
- 20:10She's naked in like the final bit of it, I don't know if she's
- 20:13always naked. Probably not.
- 20:18Okay. So it really, it's kind of
- 20:20funny, urban legend, one that year between all these, it made
- 20:24seventy two million like, way more than any of these others,
- 20:29which is kind of surprising, because it was not a franchise.
- 20:31Like, I feel like all these except for the faculty were
- 20:34franchises at this point. Yeah, well, urban legend went on
- 20:37to have two sequels that had nothing to do with each other,
- 20:41besides Loretta Devine and folklore, is she in the third
- 20:46one? I don't remember if she's in the
- 20:47third one, but I know she's in the second one.
- 20:49Okay, the second one is the one that's Film School.
- 20:52The third ones, Bloody Mary. Yes.
- 20:55Okay. Yeah, we have that one.
- 20:57Do we know? We don't we don't.
- 20:59This is the only urban legend that we have.
- 21:01The second was good. I like the second one a lot.
- 21:04Yeah. That was, that was nice.
- 21:05Resting concept for the second one.
- 21:07Yeah, it's really funny. We're both like, we're in the
- 21:12living room. So we actually have a TV on
- 21:14right now. We're both are both actually
- 21:17talking about horror movies but we're watching like a Sonic
- 21:21playthrough. Do one right now.
- 21:23I've said before how much I love watching speedruns, I find them.
- 21:27This is not a speedrun, this is Aaron Hanson playing a song
- 21:30again the exact opposite but that's the thing though, is that
- 21:34Sonic games even though First player is still a speedrun.
- 21:37Yeah. That's you know that's actually
- 21:39a good point which this is Aaron Hanson playing sonic so he's
- 21:45fast he's going very fast right now.
- 21:49I thought about like something cool that we could have put on
- 21:51here. Like maybe we could have had the
- 21:52movie running in the background but now we're just gonna watch
- 21:55Sonic and talk about urban legend like I want this.
- 21:59As my like desktop screen savers.
- 22:03It is mesmerizing okay. It was Snap out of it.
- 22:06I got the good thing to snap out.
- 22:08We got taglines. Okay alright I got plenty of
- 22:10them too. Okay, so there are actually like
- 22:14to on the poster. So boy, I'm gonna go with the
- 22:17top one first and then the bottom one.
- 22:19Oh no, I remember. So teen creeps covered this
- 22:23movie not too long ago, I don't think and I remember them
- 22:27talking about how stupid the tagline on the poster is, do
- 22:30they talk about taglines to know?
- 22:31Well, so what they do is, whenever they are talking about
- 22:35a book or movie? Well, that's what they do
- 22:37always. That's, yeah.
- 22:39Well, they read the tag line for this, their own Okay is.
- 22:43Oh yeah. Super she open with.
- 22:45Then she's like I don't it feels like to it is suit like it on
- 22:50IMDb. At least it was with us to and
- 22:52then I looked at the poster like these are likely related so I'm
- 22:56it's too. So the first one is it happened
- 22:59to someone who knows someone you know dot dot dot you're next.
- 23:04It sounds. Yeah.
- 23:08See because that one. If it plays into this, it
- 23:13doesn't make sense because the bottom one is what you don't
- 23:16believe can kill you. Do you want to try and read that
- 23:19all together? It happened to someone, who
- 23:21knows someone, you know, you're next, what you don't believe can
- 23:25kill you, none of it makes sense.
- 23:28Seifert, lie or together. I think it's things like that.
- 23:30Happen to someone. You know, who knows?
- 23:32Someone, you know, or someone who knows I'm getting confusing
- 23:36talking about. Could almost be good if you left
- 23:39off the year next happen to someone you know.
- 23:42Maybe or maybe happens to someone, you know, fuck I'm
- 23:45getting confused, even trying to remember.
- 23:47Okay, you're reading it. No I wasn't.
- 23:48I was trying to do it from memory.
- 23:50It happened to someone, who knows someone, you know.
- 23:53Okay. Well that yeah, that sounds
- 23:55about, right? That sounds like this.
- 23:57Making of an urban legend right there.
- 23:59Yeah. When you add in the year next,
- 24:02it sounds like one of those early internet email chain
- 24:06meals. Oh yeah.
- 24:07Dude, those are awesome. Okay.
- 24:11So what do you think of them individually at least?
- 24:14Well, like I said, the first one might be compelling if we take
- 24:17away the your next. What about what?
- 24:19You don't believe can kill you. That's dumb because they all
- 24:23believe in the urban legends. Know.
- 24:25The overall I give in this Ayah shit, Wexler.
- 24:29No. Well, I fully Wexler is the one,
- 24:32okay? Never mind.
- 24:32His whole thing is that they're bullshit.
- 24:33That's his entire class. How do you start an entire class
- 24:36out of? Like the idea that urban legends
- 24:39are bullshit? I how does that carry on for an
- 24:41entire semester publish enough research papers in the
- 24:45University, will you have your pet project class?
- 24:48That's one of those bullshit classes that people sign up for
- 24:50aphrodisiacs. I would, for sure, sign of all I
- 24:53would to like, it would be fun if you have the right person.
- 24:56I don't know if wexler's the right person because he doesn't
- 24:58have fun with it. He takes his super super sobs,
- 25:00well, because he's got this group of assholes cutting up
- 25:03during class all the time. Well, they gotta have fun
- 25:06somehow like they like went to the urban legend class to talk
- 25:10about. I mean, Rebecca Gayheart could
- 25:12have just had some fun, eating some pop rocks, but no pasties
- 25:15gotta come up there and fake his own death.
- 25:18Yeah, yeah. Big old ding.
- 25:22Okay, well, that's how you describe pasties, character
- 25:26building, okay, next one. Get ready to face your worst,
- 25:31fears. Again, I feel like it's missing
- 25:34the point of the urban legend as yeah.
- 25:36It's not like that doesn't do anything with urban legends at
- 25:39all. I guess, just like this is a
- 25:41scary movie. You'll be afraid of this.
- 25:43Get rid of face, it just face it, you're going to be scared.
- 25:49Okay, we both went to that the same time.
- 25:52Okay. Next up just because it didn't
- 25:54happen. Doesn't mean it can't.
- 25:56I like that one. Yeah.
- 25:58What should have been the official one?
- 25:59That's a good one. Yeah, next up, urban legends can
- 26:03kill that's so stupid. That doesn't even make any
- 26:06sense. Okay, I got a final 11, never
- 26:11talk to strangers. Never answer the phone, never
- 26:14flash, your lights, never leave the car, and always believe what
- 26:18you're told. I feel like they could have
- 26:22gotten a couple more wall like more obvious urban legends on
- 26:26there and so did they like, don't talk to strangers.
- 26:28Don't get out of the car. Never get out of the car.
- 26:32Never doorman hook hand, never. Yeah.
- 26:35Yeah, never ever. Never ever.
- 26:39Ever. I can't.
- 26:42Okay, that's it for the taglines.
- 26:45All right, so onto our fun facts.
- 26:47Yay. I'm ready for some fun.
- 26:49Yeah, I actually managed to find a Good stuff about this
- 26:52surprisingly. Okay, so this is a movie made by
- 26:58a bunch of newbies. So, Hora de the guy that wrote
- 27:02it, he was a recent NYU grad. So he was working at Perfume
- 27:05counter and he pitched the idea to numerous Studios.
- 27:10All of them shot down except for a recently formed, Studio,
- 27:13Phoenix picture, which was just established in 1995.
- 27:17So, very new, it had been like some like small films Some of
- 27:23the movies that made so they did the sequel.
- 27:25They did urban legend Final Cut. Okay.
- 27:28Later on, they went on to make Black Swan so they found a
- 27:30bloody well, urban legend, Brian.
- 27:34A lot of money. Seventy two point five million.
- 27:36Like they did a good job finding in this one right here because I
- 27:40can't believe everybody like shut this down.
- 27:42It's such an interesting concept for a movie, three degrees of
- 27:45Aronofsky. So we've got Jared Leto and this
- 27:48and that. Yeah, it does Requiem for a
- 27:49Dream and then black, One is also Aronofsky with Lee.
- 27:53Do you only need three? Yeah.
- 27:54Is it. Kevin Bacon is 566.
- 27:58Yeah. You need like, it's half the
- 28:00amount. Have them out for Joy at Jared
- 28:02Leto. Yes.
- 28:03A black X1. And then just browsing the
- 28:06later. Released a movie called dick on
- 28:08my seventh birthday. What?
- 28:11I don't know. I was just like, oh, my seventh
- 28:13birthday movie called it came out and I'm like that's
- 28:17fascinating. That's fun.
- 28:18That's a fun fact. I'm going to talk about that in
- 28:20a fun fact. It's Todd.
- 28:22The name of the movie was Dick on my seventh birthday.
- 28:27That's why I was shocked. No, no, no.
- 28:30That's traumatic. Oh God.
- 28:35That's terrible. Yeah.
- 28:36That's that was my shock with mine Travis's.
- 28:42Seventh birthday. A movie was released that old
- 28:45dick. Yes, yes.
- 28:48I could see how I did it. Oval job setting that up.
- 28:54Okay, we added this. I need to see if I was just
- 28:57tired and miss hearing that or if that's how it actually
- 29:00sounded, when you said it in my head, it didn't.
- 29:03But then again it came from my head and I knew that I was
- 29:06talking about. Seven year old.
- 29:07Travis is birthday party. I know that sounds worse.
- 29:15Never mind. Just stop talking about it.
- 29:17I'm so, I'm sorry. I brought it up.
- 29:21It's not real so we can laugh. Yeah, not funny if it's real.
- 29:29Okay. So next up I've got the director
- 29:33Jamie blank. He was also very fresh.
- 29:35She was 26 year-old years old whenever this came out.
- 29:38He initially wanted to direct. I know you did last summer got
- 29:43shutdown ended up making his own like fake trailer for it, to the
- 29:47try and convince the studio that he could do it.
- 29:51And they're like, they're so they ended up getting him on
- 29:54this one, which is like a very similar type of movie.
- 29:57So I always forget to do is thing.
- 29:58Yeah, like something along the lines of his thing apparently.
- 30:03And I don't know after watching this, I'm going to call bullshit
- 30:05on this but it says they had to or they straighten Rebecca
- 30:09Gayheart, it's hair to prevent her naturally curly hair to give
- 30:13away her as the killer, however going back and looking at scenes
- 30:18before, you know, it's her. I feel like her hair still.
- 30:20T curly? I think they mean, whenever she
- 30:23was in the puffy coat. Oh, that makes sense.
- 30:27Do you think that she was actually the person in the puffy
- 30:28coat the entire time? It sounds like it.
- 30:31You know what? You're right.
- 30:33That's probably exactly what happened because like her hair
- 30:36is big like very, very big Delta.
- 30:39It's puffy like her jacket in this movie.
- 30:41Yeah. Well as somebody who also has a
- 30:44lot of hair especially when I do like curl it or you know, like
- 30:49this. Yeah.
- 30:51Putting on hats or like hoods of jackets, it adds volume in ways
- 30:55you wouldn't expect. So you just think like, okay,
- 30:57you have the hood pulled up, that's no big deal but like it.
- 31:00Okay, it has the volume under. Yeah, yeah, interesting and I'll
- 31:05be back. I don't know how that feels.
- 31:06I've had very big hair but it's all like big in length.
- 31:11Not so long. I almost said not in girth is
- 31:16getting weird that that dick movie really kind of skewed.
- 31:20Everything here. Okay.
- 31:24Robert Englund signed on after being impressed by the concept
- 31:26of the screenplay. He was also a fan of many of the
- 31:29cast members. Who do you think he was a fan of
- 31:33Jared Leto? Maybe I like to imagine that he
- 31:36was a fan of Josh Jackson. Like he's a big Dawson's Creek,
- 31:41man. Yeah, yeah.
- 31:43Like I just imagine, like first thing.
- 31:45I'll say just like walk sometimes.
- 31:46I don't want to say Whispers, Away.
- 31:52Okay, Daniel Harris. Originally auditioned for the
- 31:54lead role, but they didn't go with her and I guess it gave
- 31:58her, you can play her roommate, and she took it, obviously,
- 32:03because she's in this movie, but I thought that was interesting.
- 32:06Maybe she was actually, like channeling Anger from that.
- 32:09Maybe like maybe it wasn't supposed to be like an angry
- 32:11God's character, and she's like, no, I'm super pissed.
- 32:14I gotta make this like, part of my performance, actually, like,
- 32:18just chain-smoking onset and I like Danielle, Well, I'm sure.
- 32:21You know, there were several shots of violence in the scripts
- 32:25that were not shut blanks. Wanted the on-screen violence to
- 32:29be very muted. So, and apparently in that
- 32:34opening scene with the girl in the car, the gas and Feeny.
- 32:39Yeah. Which is funny about her because
- 32:42it's got Brad Dourif in there and her last name is man.
- 32:44So I figured that had to be fully intentional.
- 32:46Yeah, it's gotta be but like, apparently directors.
- 32:50Love being incestuous with the way their name.
- 32:52I know dude, I've talked to you about that all the time.
- 32:55Yeah. Well wait, one this past
- 32:58weekend. Yeah.
- 32:59Everybody in the scene I was in there.
- 33:01The names are based off of four characters.
- 33:03Yeah. Yours was Ali's different.
- 33:05Like, I'm just sick of like the carpenter Craven shit.
- 33:08Like that one's like everybody is done.
- 33:09That one to death. Oh, yeah.
- 33:11And part of that like they have like a whole fake head for her
- 33:14and everything and like it just you don't see it on film because
- 33:19like they just right now or I go.
- 33:20To shoot the violent stuff. I feel like this movie could
- 33:23very easily be PG-13. Honestly, if you think about it,
- 33:26nowadays, it definitely would have gotten a PG-13 rating.
- 33:29Yeah, but it's rated R, which is weird to me.
- 33:31Like there was like, nothing about this movie that screen is
- 33:33rated R. All right, you will maybe think
- 33:37that this is interesting. So Tara Reid's character.
- 33:42Originally supposed to be played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, but
- 33:45interesting. She had to back out because she
- 33:46had scheduling conflicts with Buffy.
- 33:48Yeah, yeah. Well, she Up in 1997 and then
- 33:531988 was season 2 of Buffy. Plus she was in Scream to I was
- 33:58reading people talking about this though to and like some
- 34:03people were thinking like wow, I was actually in The Buffy
- 34:06subreddit. Somebody was like man don't you
- 34:08think it's weird like that Buffy could have potentially held
- 34:12Sarah Michelle Gellar back from having an amazing movie career
- 34:15because she blew up so big but she like instead was just doing
- 34:18Buffy like it cost her some V rolls, now, wouldn't really say
- 34:22cos or something like she just, like, show is Buffy over like
- 34:25movie roles. Yeah.
- 34:28I mean, and that's always been kind of everything.
- 34:29Even nowadays, she has the opportunity for plenty of work,
- 34:32she's just picky about what she decides to do.
- 34:36She's in a new thing on Paramount.
- 34:38I don't know what it's supposed to be about, but, you know, I
- 34:40thought was interesting seeing her, meanwhile, her husband was
- 34:44in that movie called again, Christmas.
- 34:50You know, the song is called Christmas Without You, the
- 34:53movies, called Christmas with you, it's very confusing.
- 34:56Very, very complete, and some other casting stuff.
- 35:01Apparently, they originally wanted Reese Witherspoon, or
- 35:06Melissa Joan Hart to play the lead role of Natalie, okay?
- 35:09They both turned it down. I would have fucking loved
- 35:12Reese, Witherspoon is Natalie. I think it would have been to
- 35:1890s to have Any kind of replayability in 2023, if it was
- 35:24starring, Melissa, Joan Hart. Okay.
- 35:27Who's Melissa Joan Hart? Sabrina, the Teenage rushed
- 35:29wish, which and I mean, she was also Clarissa and Clarissa
- 35:34Explains It All. I watched a marathon of that.
- 35:36The night that I broke, both my wrists.
- 35:38We keep going back. Terrible night.
- 35:44Okay, wait. So she her time was done in the
- 35:4890s or something. I think.
- 35:50She does shows on freeform. Okay.
- 35:54With a bug guy named Joey. Wait, what?
- 35:56Oliver shows feature? This bald guy named Joey?
- 35:59No, I think like the shows like Melissa & Joey or something.
- 36:02Oh. Okay.
- 36:02Like every show that she's in, just like, Joe is going to be
- 36:05here, too. I work package to know, like
- 36:07it's just that what? Yeah, it's like full of Sunday.
- 36:10Oh yeah, Melissa & Joey American sitcom.
- 36:14Oh fuck. Okay, I'm free for.
- 36:16You can watch it now for free because before Where they got
- 36:20the name. Okay.
- 36:23Okay, that's it for my fun facts.
- 36:25Okay, all right. Well, since this is my movie,
- 36:28Jesse you start us off, that's a good.
- 36:30What's the bad ugly absurd? Know that the good?
- 36:33It's just such a fun movie. It's a fun concept part of what
- 36:38makes urban legends, fun is the fact that they sound outlandish
- 36:42but also so plausible. Yeah, exactly.
- 36:47So making a horror movie where there are killers actually Doing
- 36:53what are in the urban legends? Like that's the spooky is making
- 36:58that shit come true. And it's not even like
- 37:00Supernatural in nature. So I think that's fun.
- 37:03Yeah I feel like I could have chosen some more interesting
- 37:07urban legends. Well and I think the second one
- 37:10has some of the more interesting, one more
- 37:12interesting urban legends. I can't remember the ones in
- 37:14that one. The one that I specifically
- 37:17remember is the humans like 20. Fuck you.
- 37:22Yeah, that one's scary. Yeah.
- 37:24There's a there's a few scary ones in this one but that one
- 37:27right there. Holy yeah.
- 37:28Okay, yeah, yeah. And I just I this is so close to
- 37:34the games gone. Wrong type of son sub-genre that
- 37:38I'm such a big fan of this movie, honestly watching it.
- 37:42I was kind of like I feel like I could easily confuse this with
- 37:45Cry Wolf. Oh yeah.
- 37:47I one time it was in want to say it was the shaking that scared
- 37:52Discord. You're very where somebody was,
- 37:53like, what is cry wolf? And I just said, urban legend,
- 37:57but worse and everybody that knew was like, yep.
- 38:00Nope, that's the best way to describe that movie but I love
- 38:04Cry Wolf to so it coughs fine. This one is definitely better
- 38:08though. The bad, honestly.
- 38:13Like I don't there's not a lot that I think is bad about it.
- 38:16I think there's like a lot of cliches in it but sometimes I
- 38:20like this was the era of embracing the A Shay's and
- 38:23poking fun at MM, you know. Yeah.
- 38:25I mean like right after scream. I think well, I guess if that's
- 38:29what they were trying, they may have felt if they were trying to
- 38:31poke fun at them because really they just ended up leaning into
- 38:34the more than anything but I just, I don't know.
- 38:37I think they had fun with it and it shows but I do think that
- 38:45there are better versions of that out there like are saying,
- 38:49right? The ugly Being constantly
- 38:54aggressively reminded of 90s technology and how Once Upon a
- 39:00Time, you can it be on the internet and the telephone at
- 39:02the same time? I very, very vaguely.
- 39:05Remember those days if we had did not get on the internet to
- 39:09like the end of that. And then the Absurd this is
- 39:13absurd in all of the right ways and I just got to say Rebecca
- 39:16Gayheart. Doing her fucking thing at the
- 39:19end. I love it.
- 39:20She shines. I'm glad that they let her go.
- 39:24They gave her the opportunity to do her thing.
- 39:27Like, if that's like, what I wonder if she brought that to
- 39:30the table or if they're like, okay, like we just need you to
- 39:32like, really go over the top or like I know, you're just like a
- 39:36killer and you're revealing your identity.
- 39:37She's like. Okay, this is my chance to
- 39:39shine. Yeah, she it.
- 39:42And it's just amazing. Yeah, it's so good.
- 39:46All that said, I'm going to give this an 8 out of 10 a Datsun.
- 39:49Okay, I love it. It's pretty good score.
- 39:52Okay, so I agree that I think that this is an amazing premise
- 39:57for a squasher or just like a horror movie in general because
- 40:00like urban legends are, it's a thing that I feel like everybody
- 40:04can relate to, because everybody's heard them and
- 40:08especially these in this movie, I guess like they were very
- 40:10common of the time. Like, it would be, I guess, the
- 40:13equivalent of people making Creepypasta movies today because
- 40:17like, those are like, the earlier, like the Modern urban
- 40:19legends and, you know, I guess. Times.
- 40:22Like, if you're making a movie about a specific one, it's not a
- 40:27successful business. Like, if people made them about
- 40:29like, a bunch of them. Yeah, maybe that's why the
- 40:32Slender Man movies haven't always been super successful
- 40:36because I just like focus on the Slenderman aspect and there's
- 40:40really not a lot of like meet there.
- 40:41Yeah, for that. Yeah, I think that's part of it.
- 40:43Yeah. I mean his Slender Man.
- 40:46Yes. Yes.
- 40:47I walked right into that one. So, yeah.
- 40:51I think that It's great with that the bad, I guess, kind of
- 40:55like what I said before, I think that they could have chosen some
- 40:57more interesting ones. I think especially the least
- 41:01interesting. One was like the one where he's
- 41:05like being hanged on top of the car car door, hook hand.
- 41:10No, it's not car door. Hook hand, though because
- 41:12there's no hook hand, here's the thing is that urban legend has
- 41:16so many variations on it, that is the urban legend, but that's
- 41:21a different telling of it. They looked it up in the book
- 41:23and it said, boyfriend hanged something.
- 41:26I can't remember. I've got it written down
- 41:27somewhere. Special text book isn't going to
- 41:30say car door hook hand. I don't think Tumblr was around
- 41:32yet. It's probably fucking Wexler
- 41:34wrote it. He doesn't even have fun with
- 41:37naming them boyfriend. Hangs like okay cool, that's a
- 41:41great, urban legend, a man. Now I think that if they win
- 41:44with a card or hookin thing like that's what I was expecting
- 41:48this, what I was wanting. And then when it didn't happen,
- 41:51I was a little bit let down Down.
- 41:52But they do have some really good ones in here, like my
- 41:56personal favorite one, that really, really creep me out.
- 41:58Growing up is the ones. Like I bet you're glad you
- 42:01didn't turn the lights on that one.
- 42:04Fucking terrifies me so scary. The ugly with this.
- 42:11I think it's ugly that they have to kill the fucking dog in this
- 42:15and especially in the way that they killed the dog.
- 42:18It's not cool. I I feel like dog deaths and
- 42:22Remove. He's just in like movies in
- 42:23general. Not necessary, I guess.
- 42:26Like if you're going to make when the only time I would work
- 42:29is like pet cemetery because like that's like the whole
- 42:31point. But like I feel like people will
- 42:34rely on that on. I got a crutch to try and like,
- 42:38raise the stakes and make the killer seemed truly terrible.
- 42:42And like, like, I feel like it's just kind of lazy like, this
- 42:45better ways for, don't take the cheap shot.
- 42:48Yeah, I guess just like an easy easy way to do it like make it
- 42:52Interesting. Don't fucking kill a dog sucks
- 42:56and the Absurd. I like how it knows that this is
- 43:01like a movie. Like it kind of breaks the
- 43:02fourth wall. Couple times.
- 43:04Like you get that little like ringtone from Damon.
- 43:07That's like the Dawson's Creek ringtone.
- 43:11It's not a ring town. It's when he gets into his car,
- 43:14the radio. Oh that's right.
- 43:15That's right. Because I guess ringtones
- 43:17probably weren't even a thing here.
- 43:19This is 1998. This is still like this is the
- 43:22Of Nokia's and then like they also play on like these are
- 43:26fucking horror icons started a the killer you know.
- 43:28Like it's just kind of fun. Yeah.
- 43:31So overall I think I would give this thing a 70k.
- 43:36I like this movie a lot. I feel like this is a series
- 43:41that could actually be remade and like you can maybe do
- 43:47something interesting with it. Yeah, I mean you and even
- 43:50necessary we're in the air. Age of the recall.
- 43:53I think we could easily. Yeah, you could do it.
- 43:55And you like, have Melissa Gayheart, come back, you know
- 43:58Legacy characters? Becca go hard.
- 44:01What did I call her Melissa Gayheart?
- 44:03Why did I call her Melissa? Gave her?
- 44:05I have no idea. That's probably a.
- 44:09Yeah, I feel you should be the perfect Legacy character.
- 44:12Especially since you like reprises her role for like one
- 44:15second in the second one. She's like she's on board with
- 44:19this franchise. Just let her fucking go with it.
- 44:22Okay. All right, so I start off.
- 44:25It's storming. It storms a lot less.
- 44:27Maybe. Yeah.
- 44:29Also part of the drinking game, they admitted that this is
- 44:31basically like a waterfall. But like any time it widens or a
- 44:35white things lightens whitens. Anytime there's a white.
- 44:40Yeah, you're supposed to drink, which I don't advise that for
- 44:43this rear. Yeah.
- 44:44Because it's a very stormy movie.
- 44:46Yeah. So she's driving at storming.
- 44:49She's listening to this. The College radio station, she
- 44:54almost caches because she's a terrible driver and then she
- 44:57sings along to total eclipse of the heart in such an amazing
- 45:02way. Like, it feels so great, like
- 45:05she doesn't know the timing. Yeah, use.
- 45:09And it's so relatable. I don't even think she knows the
- 45:12words. I love it because there's a part
- 45:15where I don't know the words either, but she's like, never
- 45:19ever his like, yeah, like seriously, that's not it.
- 45:22That's not how this song goes. Yeah I think it's funny.
- 45:25I wonder if that was intentional or if they're like your singing
- 45:27Total Eclipse of the Heart, so it's just like, fuck.
- 45:30Yeah, I don't know, I don't know the songs, like it's in your
- 45:33wheelhouse. I know every other Bonnie, Tyler
- 45:36son, apparently they they shot this whole opening, by the way,
- 45:40like as the first thing because he wanted to, like, have
- 45:43something to show The Producers, like hey, I can make a movie.
- 45:46Hmm, I feel like this is like opening right here.
- 45:48Can actually play as its own short film though.
- 45:50Absolutely. It's what happens is there?
- 45:53Gas light comes on so she pulls up to a gas station and the
- 45:55attendant played by Brad Dourif is like him.
- 46:00He get he looks a little bit sucks and he says Hey Miss the
- 46:09credit card company is on the phone.
- 46:11Now it's important to know that this man has a stutter.
- 46:14Yeah and also apparently doesn't own a rain jacket.
- 46:18He is sorry changed. And yeah, so she gets into the
- 46:25gas station and she realizes nobody's on the phone.
- 46:29So she think she's going to be murdered.
- 46:31I can't blame her for that. It's a bad situation.
- 46:35She's alone. It's nighttime.
- 46:36There's a man. That's just locked her in a
- 46:38building. I feel like it could have tried
- 46:41to like talk as he was walking in there because like like he
- 46:45didn't even like say anything until she got in there and he
- 46:49just like went in there. He immediately walks to the
- 46:51door. Or and he couldn't get the words
- 46:53out so she pepper sprays him bust the window.
- 46:57She gets in her car and as she's driving away, he finally gets it
- 47:01out there Subway. In the backseat.
- 47:04I also need to find out that her little car Locker the little
- 47:08beep. Boop boop it sounds like R2-D2
- 47:11beep. Boop beep boop.
- 47:13I didn't do a good job of it but I don't I did not pick that up.
- 47:17Yeah so she ends up getting hit by an axe.
- 47:23It's acts in the head which seems like a risky move for.
- 47:26Oh puffy coat in the backseat. Yeah I was questioning that to
- 47:29watching this because like this person's driving Going full
- 47:33speed and like they're actually probably speeding at this point
- 47:37and like you're going to chop their head off while they're
- 47:39doing that. I guess not.
- 47:41Yeah, there's no way that. That did not rec.
- 47:44Yeah. Apparently, everybody's fine
- 47:47though. So, we cut to campus.
- 47:50Yeah. Some friends are sitting in a
- 47:52coffee shop. They're talking about this frat
- 47:54party. That's coming up to celebrate
- 47:56the 20th anniversary of the Stanley Hall Massacre, which is
- 47:59pretty fucked up, Stanley, On massacre massacre.
- 48:06Let's see, we learned that Brenda played by Rebecca
- 48:09Gayheart. She is a new transfer.
- 48:13So that's something that's one of those little details.
- 48:16I didn't pick up on until this watch.
- 48:18I didn't even know that either. That should have been like a
- 48:20giveaway that if you're like really thinking about it.
- 48:23Yeah, trading the friend group? Yeah.
- 48:26But her Natalie are good friends.
- 48:28Now, they have a moment where they get spooked by Damon
- 48:31because they're doing blood. Hey, Mary at the abandoned
- 48:34Stanley Hall. Dorm this is it makes sense to
- 48:36me. Like I thought the whole point
- 48:37of Bloody Mary is you're doing it in the bathroom with the
- 48:41mirror in the dark. They're not playing it right?
- 48:45No they're not. Okay, I'm just glad that I
- 48:47didn't get that wrong. That's just trying to set the
- 48:49tone for Natalie. Oh yeah, okay, trying to get oh,
- 48:53wow. Yeah, that's that's that's a
- 48:55nice little detail. I get honestly.
- 48:57So Natalie gets back to her dorm room and her roommate Tash Tash.
- 49:02Daniel Harris, they don't have a sock system or anything like
- 49:07that. This is just like full-on
- 49:10fucking very aggressive sex on her bed and she was gonna tell
- 49:14her to leave. She's like turn out the why you
- 49:16can stay there. Yeah I don't know how this is.
- 49:21That's not the I wouldn't do it really for her issue like she
- 49:25just gets in bed puts on headphones and just listens to
- 49:28music while like she's in the room wall, I would miss having
- 49:31sucks. So uncomfortable knowing that
- 49:34that aggressive humping humping was happening right behind my
- 49:37back the whole thinning. That's the whole definitely been
- 49:40like a porno called the Halo hell yeah dude there's no way if
- 49:44I'm just going to be now deserve credit.
- 49:50Imagine each thrust like the bed.
- 49:55She wakes up So we cut to dr. Wexler's class on the folklore
- 50:08and he talks about how it reflects our society's values.
- 50:14He looks very cozy. You said that looks so cool.
- 50:18He's got his little sweater vest and is Jackie's gonna bow tie?
- 50:24It's it is a very cozy little outfit.
- 50:27Robert England's sporting here, so what?
- 50:32They're talking about is that when a stranger calls.
- 50:35Yeah. Thing or or black Christmas?
- 50:39Yeah. Which I mean I feel like
- 50:41apparently it was like a so his whole thing is like it was an
- 50:45urban legend, far long ago and like it was just like, it's been
- 50:50altered as like technology and times have changed.
- 50:53Yeah, we're just kind of urban legends work.
- 50:55Yeah. And then he talks about the pop
- 50:58rocks and soda and I want to point out that he's uses the
- 51:01word soda. He does.
- 51:03Oh, where is this? Do we know where this is?
- 51:05Well, okay, it's not like California, right?
- 51:09I feel like California. No, I think it's like, I feel
- 51:13like we saw it somewhere because Rebecca Gayheart, says, man, I
- 51:20could have gone to NYU instead and I feel like if it was
- 51:22California, like that's two opposite ends of the country,
- 51:25that's a weird line. Also, an interesting thing that
- 51:29I read on this, apparently this was supposed to be set during
- 51:32the winter which is why the Killer is wearing a puffy coat.
- 51:36But when they got there for, Filming.
- 51:38It was way too warm, so they kind of like drop that but they
- 51:42kept the coat, you know, I never really questioned, the puffy
- 51:46coat I never did either, but like, you gotta imagine, like,
- 51:48it's not comfortable wearing that thing.
- 51:51Okay? So I like how he he's, like,
- 51:53questioning them on the pop rocks thing.
- 51:56And then I, yeah, I think that there's like a kid that died
- 51:58from it, and then he shows like the picture of the kid.
- 52:02Apparently, I don't know if this is a real thing, or if this is a
- 52:05thing that they made for the movie.
- 52:07But like Shows the kid that allegedly died from eating, pop,
- 52:11rocks, and drinking soda. And then I was like a picture of
- 52:15him as a grownup, which I have to wonder.
- 52:17How the fuck did he find? This guy as a grownup.
- 52:20It's just like how nowadays people be.
- 52:22Like this is the person from the whatever meme, I guess that's
- 52:25true. Like success kid's dad has a new
- 52:29kidney what? Yeah.
- 52:32Like see. This is what the internet lets
- 52:34you know. Now it is okay.
- 52:35Oh yeah, this is before the internet.
- 52:37No it's not. Not before easy internet before
- 52:40like current Internet, where it's so easy to find this shit.
- 52:43Yeah. But I'm pretty sure that William
- 52:45Wexler PhD. PhD, find the results.
- 52:50He needs. No, maybe, I don't know.
- 52:53Well, he, he gets mad at Brenda because she's snickering and
- 52:58making little comments and then calling bullshit on it.
- 53:00So he dares her to come up to test it out for herself.
- 53:05She backs down. Damon is like, I'll do And then
- 53:08he goes up there. Eat some drinks, some Pepsi.
- 53:12And then he starts frothing green shit from his mouth.
- 53:16I think it was just like the pop rocks.
- 53:18Probably, I can't believe he actually he committed to this
- 53:22like he actually went to the point where he was spitting up
- 53:25all over his face, he was definitely sticky and I was
- 53:28thinking the same thing the entire time, like he is got to
- 53:31be sticky. That's not going to be
- 53:33comfortable. Like if this is like at the
- 53:35beginning of class and he opened with this, and Like this is like
- 53:38an hour-long classic you're just sitting there with like green
- 53:41sticky shit all over your face. Well, whatever he showed Wexler.
- 53:45I also like how like he's pretending to die and he like
- 53:49goes to lean on Wexler and like he like moves his shoulder and
- 53:52let them fall and then kind of like no just him down the steps.
- 53:55I quit school doesn't give a shit like he's like you're
- 53:58fucking dead even if this was really like I'm not actually
- 54:02nerd. Yeah yeah.
- 54:05So after class we See that race and the dean or collecting all
- 54:10of the school newspapers because Paul has sensationalized.
- 54:14Michelle, Mancini's death, Natalie is very unimpressed with
- 54:18this article and she was like, you know, this is somebody's
- 54:21actual life. Yeah, by the way, Brenda is like
- 54:26super into Paul. Yeah, which is a big part of
- 54:30this story here. That's why they're going to say,
- 54:32which is a big red flag. That's not red flag.
- 54:37She's Super into him. And I guess like, they all are
- 54:39too. I think Natalie is so she just
- 54:41doesn't really say it because her friends like really into
- 54:43him. I think Natalie becomes into him
- 54:46when he is in her eye when he's like actually believes the urban
- 54:51legend shit. And she's like, that's hot.
- 54:53Also at the gas station. Attendant is reported as missing
- 54:57and we never get resolution on what happened to him.
- 55:00Yeah. Right.
- 55:01Like what did he do? Do you run like to the fucking
- 55:03woods? And just like I feel like he's
- 55:05the type of guy I think that would just like run to the
- 55:07woods. He's like, I know exactly how
- 55:09this looks. I'm not even saying he has like
- 55:11a game plan. Like he just runs to the woods.
- 55:12That's how he does with this problems.
- 55:16Not only when she goes back to her and pulls out her High
- 55:18School yearbook and we see that she was cheer captain and spoke
- 55:22with Michelle Mancini, Damon decides to check in on her.
- 55:26And he was like, don't tell anybody, but I'm actually good
- 55:29listener. Let's go for a drive and that's
- 55:32when we get the little gag, huh? I don't know.
- 55:35Yeah, I love it. It's really Funny, I didn't even
- 55:39tell me a joke that you thought was really funny.
- 55:41Yeah, do it, do it. Okay.
- 55:43Okay, so we all know that the Beverly Hills zip code is 90210.
- 55:49But what's the zip code for Dawson's Creek?
- 55:53Not. Oh what a way that one.
- 55:57Like when you first told that it's like a second for it to
- 55:59settle everything as soon as like that light bulb came on, I
- 56:02was like, oh my God. That's amazing.
- 56:04So they he his choice of listening spot is like in the
- 56:09middle of the woods. Yeah it doesn't it all seem like
- 56:13he's going to try and hit on her so he hits on her conveniently.
- 56:16Like before he went there like his car's a piece of shit won't
- 56:20start up. God I remember Stays having a
- 56:24shitty car like that. And I'm glad that it's not the
- 56:27case anymore. But yeah, they stopped there and
- 56:30he gives her a whole sob story about himself and like, he's
- 56:34trying to become relatable. And then he's like, you know
- 56:37what, your problem is, like, you need something like that type of
- 56:40feeling that only a man can do. And where he said this, I got
- 56:44likes to mock her vibes from it. Yeah man, to do that sort of
- 56:49thing. Well, now you just sound like
- 56:51Randy quoting S2o got well, I mean nobody can do stew other
- 56:57than Matthew Lillard. Yeah.
- 57:00Matthew Lillard is the only one that can be Matthew Lillard, but
- 57:03anyone can be Jamie Kennedy. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 57:07Okay, so she punches him and says, take me back to my door.
- 57:12Seems like, hold on, I gotta pee and then he walks.
- 57:15Listen, here's the thing. Movies always have dudes walk in
- 57:20like a mile away to pee. Most dudes in real life with
- 57:25just like, get out of the car and turn their back to the car.
- 57:30Like they're not gonna go. I even do that much.
- 57:33Oh, the window down. Like, I guess it depends on the
- 57:38degree of P shyness. You are but like oh no.
- 57:41Like fuck a dude just roll it down.
- 57:47So yeah, she walks away or he walks away and then he gets
- 57:52stronger. Up.
- 57:53And the string is tied to the back of the car, and then the
- 57:58puffy coat attacks, the car. So Natalie drives which ends up
- 58:02killing Damon. She like every time she tries to
- 58:07start the car, it doesn't work, but it goes in reverse every
- 58:10single time. And then like after a certain
- 58:13point I would just be like I would just drive in reverse the
- 58:17rest of the way home. If I can get this thing going
- 58:19forward, exactly. Instead, she gets out and runs
- 58:22which that? Have been a red flag to her that
- 58:24she survived that. Yeah.
- 58:26Right. Like how did the hell does she
- 58:27survive that? Like the person does not Chase.
- 58:30I mean I guess to be fair like she flung The puffy coat killer
- 58:35around a lot because like fun because like the perfect Killers
- 58:39like jumping on the car and getting tossed around and all
- 58:41kinds of shit, you know. Yeah, Brenda is how a lot of
- 58:45physical damage these past couple of days but she seems
- 58:49remarkably unhurt. Yeah.
- 58:50Right. Like how, how does that happen?
- 58:52Like. Does she not get hit by the car
- 58:54here too? I feel like the heart are in the
- 58:56car like kind of hits her a little bit.
- 58:58Yeah. Okay well she goes to get the
- 59:00security guard. Why are you get the security
- 59:02guard? I don't know.
- 59:03I get the fucking cops at this point.
- 59:06What's her name me? Reese?
- 59:08Yeah, so Reese comes with her to go investigate and what do you
- 59:11know? There's no sign of anything
- 59:13happening there and then she says, don't worry about it.
- 59:16The police arrest of the gas station intended this morning.
- 59:20Oh so they found. Yeah.
- 59:21They went to the woods and found Okay.
- 59:24So Natalie's freaking out, Parker says the damage.
- 59:28Probably just pulling a trick. These little prankster.
- 59:32Yeah, Frankie prank. Thank God.
- 59:35YouTube doesn't exist at this point because he'd be obnoxious.
- 59:38Yeah, I could tell him he's already of noxious.
- 59:40As it is like this is a, this is way more of a prank than I feel
- 59:45like this is too far to just be a prank, like, tying yourself up
- 59:48to a tree. Well now, so Parker says that he
- 59:51is a mannequin that He uses on pledges to bring him out and he
- 59:56was supposed to be going on a snowboarding trip, so that's
- 59:58where he is now, obviously. But Natalie figures, that all of
- 1:00:03the killings that have happened so far, have been related to
- 1:00:06urban legends. So she calls to confirm that,
- 1:00:09Damon showed up to the cabin. And the person's like, well, I
- 1:00:13can confirm. There's a blond guy here, but I
- 1:00:14can't really give you more details yet.
- 1:00:17Yeah, there's a blonde guy here and it's like, okay, like
- 1:00:22there's so many boy. People.
- 1:00:23So she goes to the library to research more urban legends and
- 1:00:27Sasha's there. That's Tara Reid's character and
- 1:00:29she helps out and Natalie notices.
- 1:00:33That Damon was the last one to check out the book on urban
- 1:00:36legends suspicious. She gets out her roommate, Tosh
- 1:00:42is back in their dorm. She's iming this guy on golf for
- 1:00:46God for god dude. This thing this is like retro
- 1:00:5090s website type of way, all right.
- 1:00:53Right here, big time. Yeah.
- 1:00:54And she's like, what you into and he was like lithium, like
- 1:00:59what? Yeah, I don't I don't get that
- 1:01:02she's super into it so she's like, yeah, hell yeah.
- 1:01:04Come over here. Where you at?
- 1:01:06And then she goes to like, go to the bathroom real quick.
- 1:01:09I just feel like lithium is not like a fun, sexy drug.
- 1:01:13Don't even know what I mean. What is with him?
- 1:01:17Bipolar I guess he does like his dirty talk.
- 1:01:21Like he's like yeah man. Dark and Disturbed Soul, even
- 1:01:25though that's not really making you dark and Disturbed.
- 1:01:27It's just like, I don't know, I guess he thought that it was
- 1:01:30like a cool thing to say, if you like fell asleep and I was like,
- 1:01:32hey baby. I just popped a Prozac hell.
- 1:01:35Yes, it's hi. I should be on Godfrey Cass.
- 1:01:39She's like, let me know what your dorm room is.
- 1:01:41I'm gonna go freshen up and when she comes back, are when she
- 1:01:44goes back, it's like I'm in your room and so she's being murdered
- 1:01:50when Natalie walks in and she's like, trying to scream.
- 1:01:53I'm for help and Ali goes. Oops, sorry, and turns the
- 1:01:55lights off and puts on her head phone.
- 1:01:57Maybe she would have been better off if she didn't sound.
- 1:01:59Like she was being killed every time she has sex because
- 1:02:02apparently, like is not like you can't distinguish the two
- 1:02:05apparently. But yeah, this is my favorite
- 1:02:09urban legend radio because she wakes up the next morning and
- 1:02:12then she sees Nat Tosh and she's like, hey are you okay was back
- 1:02:18the blankets? She's covered in blood and then
- 1:02:20she looks at the wall and then in Boyd is written.
- 1:02:23You're glad you didn't turn the lights on which, how long did it
- 1:02:26take to write that on the wall? Because I don't, you got to wake
- 1:02:29up. That's what my other side of the
- 1:02:31room. So like, yeah, I just picturing
- 1:02:34going back and forth. Yeah.
- 1:02:35Like going back and forth like he's like, got like a little
- 1:02:38painter's palette, and then just like, you know, kind of like
- 1:02:42Bob, Ross in it up there with them.
- 1:02:44Like I also have no idea how Natalie does not wake up during
- 1:02:49this. That would have been so awkward
- 1:02:50to like wake up and see Brenda just standing over.
- 1:02:53Were you like with a palette and boys, right?
- 1:02:57So the next day, Paul's doing some investigating into, like,
- 1:03:03what happened? Not necessarily treating it as a
- 1:03:06murder. But, you know, he's there for
- 1:03:08the big scoop but Natalie's being questioned and is told
- 1:03:12that it was ruled a suicide, a very graphic suicide because
- 1:03:16she's like, how the fuck is? This is suicide.
- 1:03:18She has a risk on and I'm like, yeah, that message on the wall
- 1:03:22that was just a We decide. No.
- 1:03:25Yeah, but they like they chalk it up because she's manic
- 1:03:27depressive like that's so disingenuous it just because
- 1:03:30she's manic depressive so obviously she's just killed
- 1:03:33herself. Yeah sucks.
- 1:03:35Yeah. That's pretty shitty treatment
- 1:03:37ever know. So so Brenda comes to comfort.
- 1:03:41Natalie Nunn is like no I just want to be alone and then she's
- 1:03:44alone until Paul is like hey can I ask you questions?
- 1:03:47She says that's hot and he's like not about Tosh, fuck her.
- 1:03:52But instead of an ask about Michelle and he's like, we can
- 1:03:56talk off the record and then Nelly points out.
- 1:03:59This is Stanley Hall 25th, anniversary mass of the mass
- 1:04:03akua, and so they want to go look up records for it.
- 1:04:07However, the records for that year are missing what?
- 1:04:11Oh, and this is also. When we are introduced to the
- 1:04:16guy that plays three finger, or how I wrote him in my notes,
- 1:04:18five-fingered, he has all five of his fingers this time.
- 1:04:21He's a janitor He has hair and he has hair in a very creepy
- 1:04:25cut. Yes.
- 1:04:26But you can definitely see how that is three finger under like
- 1:04:31all of that makeup. And I just think it's kind of
- 1:04:33funny that like the other red herring that they have here is
- 1:04:36going to be like a next like one of the next horror like slasher
- 1:04:40icons but like, it just didn't even know it.
- 1:04:43It's just kind of funny that like, all the red herrings here.
- 1:04:45Are these, like you got Brad door if you have Robert Englund
- 1:04:49and now you have five fingers. Hmm, it's cool.
- 1:04:51I like it. Yeah.
- 1:04:52Yeah, so, they're asking him if he knows anything and he says
- 1:04:56that they should talk to Wexler, Wexler, isn't it is office even
- 1:04:59though it's office hours. So, instead of waiting for him
- 1:05:02to decide to break in, we're and they find a puffy coat in Acts
- 1:05:06Wexler arrives, and he finds them and he's like, yeah.
- 1:05:10These are props for my class and the dean is like Natalie.
- 1:05:14What the hell? You killed a man and she's like,
- 1:05:17I can't talk about that. I was already accepted here and
- 1:05:20he was like, whoa! Wait!
- 1:05:21What was what was the They had on her.
- 1:05:24So file said that she was on probation for a year for
- 1:05:29reckless endangerment and she said it was after she was
- 1:05:32already accepted. Paul got kicked off the paper.
- 1:05:35Now here's what gets me. Paul is mad because he says, he
- 1:05:40can't get a job without a decent body of writing, which fair, but
- 1:05:46then later on in the movie we learned, he's a senior.
- 1:05:49Yeah. So he should already have a
- 1:05:51portfolio. Yeah, you would think so like
- 1:05:53he's I mean, he's the he already had like a published story
- 1:05:57because like they were taking his story before like yeah.
- 1:05:59Yeah. He's got pointing, it's kind of
- 1:06:02like a bullshit thing. Natalie goes to the school's
- 1:06:06Aquatic Center which has As a twisty water slide, this is fun
- 1:06:12man. Like spying on.
- 1:06:13People need to be able to have fun too.
- 1:06:15It's definitely a lap pool but they've got a twisty water
- 1:06:18slide. So you know, they have the
- 1:06:20budget for a man and she's watching Brenda swim laps when
- 1:06:26somebody in a puffy coat walks in and Natalie freaks out and
- 1:06:30breaks a window with a chair except it's just like another
- 1:06:32person who's like ready to swim laps with Brenda she needs to
- 1:06:36just recognize that. There are multiple For puffy
- 1:06:39coats on this campus Because she just saw one and wexler's office
- 1:06:42and now she sees somebody walking here.
- 1:06:44Yeah. And like Brenda has 12.
- 1:06:47So like that's a pretty sure I have a very similar puffy coat
- 1:06:50in our closet right now do it's just dark like let's just like
- 1:06:55this is probably like the very inco of the season right here
- 1:06:59and everybody's wearing it but yeah it's just another girl
- 1:07:03she's there to swim and she's like, why the fuck are you
- 1:07:05breaking the window? And this is our Natalie finally
- 1:07:08tells. Brenda about her friendship with
- 1:07:10Michelle said that they had read about this urban legend.
- 1:07:13It's the high beam gang initiation where you drive
- 1:07:17around with your headlights off in the first personal /.
- 1:07:20Their headlights that you supposedly according to the
- 1:07:23urban legend is like a gang initiation thing.
- 1:07:25And so the first person that flashes their headlights of them
- 1:07:28gets killed, it's always urban legend if you ask me, like sure.
- 1:07:33Like I feel like they're that one has Merit to be real but
- 1:07:37like, really what I'm thinking Urban legends is just nothing
- 1:07:39really creepy about. It's just like, wow, that's
- 1:07:42that's fucked up. Yeah, much all I can think about
- 1:07:44it because we live in Lexington where everybody's shitty drivers
- 1:07:48and doesn't have headlights on all the time.
- 1:07:51That's true. I've encountered in many times
- 1:07:53so and they will flash their high beams at use if they don't
- 1:07:57feel like going at a four-way stop, they'll usually be, I was
- 1:08:00very clearly here first, but let me flash my beams at you,
- 1:08:04because I am not emotionally prepared to take this.
- 1:08:08Protection. Yeah, there's so she said that
- 1:08:14they decided that they were going to have fun and do that
- 1:08:16one night and then Michelle was driving Natalie's car and she
- 1:08:22started going like getting way too into it and the car that
- 1:08:27they were chasing lost control and he died before paramedics,
- 1:08:31get even a ride, the courts were lenient and Natalie is like, I
- 1:08:36never forgave her I guess I never They forgive myself
- 1:08:39either. And then Brenda's, like, wow,
- 1:08:42how awful for everyone? This is one of those ones by
- 1:08:46really, if you like pay attention on second watch, you
- 1:08:49can definitely see ya Brenda convinces, Natalie to come to
- 1:08:53the party tonight. We also learned that the reason
- 1:08:57the custodian told on task Wexler about the Stanley Hall
- 1:09:00Massacre is because he was the sole survivor.
- 1:09:04Yeah, that's like that's fucked up.
- 1:09:08Yeah, Reese wants to have extra security on campus for the
- 1:09:12weekend and the Deans like nah, he's like also don't you dare
- 1:09:15call the cops or any of these? I know like how is she the only
- 1:09:19one on campus and like not even that she's even doing the cops
- 1:09:22job at a certain point has not gone off duty since all of this
- 1:09:26started, when does Reese go to bed?
- 1:09:30Yeah. Rice.
- 1:09:31You lives there in the office. I think, honestly, it feels like
- 1:09:34she made it her home because she's like watching like those
- 1:09:36action movies and she's just imitating.
- 1:09:38Yeah, this is just her house. That's her living room right
- 1:09:41there. It's just it's an amazes me that
- 1:09:44they had nobody like she is the only Security on this entire
- 1:09:48college campus. Yeah.
- 1:09:50Well jokes on the dean because as soon as RI slaves, his
- 1:09:54Achilles tendon gets cut, as he's crawling away, his car is
- 1:09:59started and it runs him over. Is this an urban legend?
- 1:10:02This doesn't feel like an urban legend.
- 1:10:03It just seems this. I think that she's just kissing.
- 1:10:05Yes. Like you've already kind of mean
- 1:10:08to me Friends, I wasn't planning on killing you, but like, I want
- 1:10:11to be mean to the yeah, no one else.
- 1:10:13Yeah. It's a weird type of defensive
- 1:10:15thing here. And this is like one of the rare
- 1:10:17moments in the movie where you actually do see the gore because
- 1:10:20like the Achilles cut is always fucking cringed.
- 1:10:23Yeah. Because that I will never not be
- 1:10:26uncomfortable watching it and then not only that but like he
- 1:10:29falls back like the car hits him onto like the spikes that are
- 1:10:34supposed to slash your tires. Yeah.
- 1:10:35Like going past the party. You're not supposed Yeah, that
- 1:10:39like, it's a pretty brutal kill. I think, is probably the most
- 1:10:42brutal in this movie that you see.
- 1:10:44So over at the Frat party, they have a dog beer bong.
- 1:10:50Oh God. You know, I okay, he is an urban
- 1:10:53legend. That's the that dogs a fucking
- 1:10:55Legend, right? I just loves it.
- 1:10:58The dog's name is Hootie. So, when we cut to the frat
- 1:11:00house, that sounds like they're like mod.
- 1:11:04Yeah, I wonder if it was intentional traffic.
- 1:11:08I tried looking at pictures of the dog because I get the dogs
- 1:11:10part of the cover for this and like, known of Hootie dogs, like
- 1:11:15I got a lot of Hootie and the Blowfish, I'm hooting, yeah, the
- 1:11:21dogs fucking chugging beer though.
- 1:11:23A beer bong, it's impressive and Paula Natalie kiss and Brenda
- 1:11:29Brenda, Brenda was being a good friend and bringing Natalie a
- 1:11:34beer. However, I question the
- 1:11:36authenticity of this because she was bringing it, And a frosty
- 1:11:40glass we do. Frat parties are Solo cups.
- 1:11:44All the way. Yeah, yeah, that's not like a
- 1:11:47unless you like snagged it from the cabinet.
- 1:11:49She's like, you know, we're just going to like grab a shits on a
- 1:11:51beer. Mugs would not survive in that
- 1:11:54dorm. Absolutely, not.
- 1:11:56Not with fucking, what's his name?
- 1:11:59Parker Parker. Yeah, I'm even getting in, like,
- 1:12:04the actress am wrong. I almost called him.
- 1:12:05Michael Fassbender. Michael Rosenbaum.
- 1:12:08Um, yeah, his fucking house. It's guys a little bit chaotic
- 1:12:11is because dog over here chugging beer.
- 1:12:13Yeah, yeah, yeah. She gets really pissed off and
- 1:12:16storms out. And then, yeah, not only in Paul
- 1:12:20decides that they need to try to stop the party because they
- 1:12:22think that, you know, with it being the anniversary, that's a
- 1:12:25bad things are going to happen and Parker is just kind of a
- 1:12:27dick to them and addictive Paul more than anybody because like
- 1:12:32he stops the party was like, Hey everybody.
- 1:12:34Let's laugh at Paul for thinking that we're gonna die because of
- 1:12:38Urban legend bullshit and like he's just coming comes across as
- 1:12:42an asshole and Sasha gets mad so she's like, Fuck You.
- 1:12:46I'm going to go do my radio show because you're being a dick.
- 1:12:50She goes off, to do that. Meanwhile, Parker gets a call
- 1:12:55and it's there are things that this wave of homage.
- 1:12:59That's all we need to say, well, is this an actual urban legend
- 1:13:03that they say? I think they again shooting
- 1:13:05sounds like one of those that it was like, not.
- 1:13:08A spooky urban legend necessarily be like, hey fucked
- 1:13:11up heard this happened one time? Okay, yeah because like yeah I
- 1:13:16again she would probably just saw Parker be a dick tip also
- 1:13:20less sad. Modern version of it is the
- 1:13:22people that read online that you can dry your iPhone in a
- 1:13:26microwave. I was just thinking that too.
- 1:13:28Like if you drop it in water you put it in there and it was like
- 1:13:31it just fucking yeah, explodes. Yeah.
- 1:13:33And then Parker gets attacked and he gets a beer bong down his
- 1:13:37throat and he Shaft with pop rocks and drain.
- 1:13:39Oh yeah, sure that's the urban legend to yeah.
- 1:13:44Pop rocks and Reina the power. So it seems like the power goes
- 1:13:47out of the radio station but it doesn't because we can still
- 1:13:49hear Sasha through the radio as she is being attacked in.
- 1:13:55So Natalie tries to get to the station to help her but she's
- 1:13:58too late. Yeah, Paul shows up.
- 1:14:02Just then. So does Brenda's they all get
- 1:14:04into Paul's car and I go driving away, meanwhile.
- 1:14:08Reese has found multiple like bloody disaster scenes because
- 1:14:13she again, is the only person on duty and this entire town.
- 1:14:17Probably. Yeah, in the car, Natalie makes
- 1:14:21a comment about how something smells really bad.
- 1:14:24They stopped at a gas station to try and use the phone.
- 1:14:26So Paul goes inside, while Brenda and Natalie are talking,
- 1:14:30thank here, very early, era cell phone, ringing in the trunk and
- 1:14:36when they open it up, the smell is even Longer and it's like,
- 1:14:39sellers body. So they go a running.
- 1:14:44Yeah, policy is starts chasing after him and he's chasing after
- 1:14:48Natalie. He doesn't give a fuck about
- 1:14:49Brenda he's like, no, I like to imagine that.
- 1:14:52He thought that like the killer was in there to, he's like, oh
- 1:14:54my God, we're all running together but instead, they're
- 1:14:57all running from him. And like, another funny thing
- 1:15:00that happens here is like Brenda just falls down and Natalie does
- 1:15:05not give a shit. She just keeps running.
- 1:15:07Yeah, she just Powers through and then she's like, oh my God.
- 1:15:10Brenda I I wash it. Would you go Brenda like she
- 1:15:13fucking new? I know it because I really
- 1:15:15running side-by-side. She does kind of like yeah,
- 1:15:19really. When you like think about this
- 1:15:20movie, she's kind of a shitty person, but she makes it to the
- 1:15:24side of the road. And this is a very three-finger
- 1:15:27truck that five fingers driving here and she gets in there hit
- 1:15:32just a ride with him. He he's kind of sketchy.
- 1:15:36I know you're supposed to be sketched out by him because
- 1:15:37you're like, He the killer. Now we don't know, he's just
- 1:15:40kind of concerned but like also looking at her really weirdly.
- 1:15:43Yeah. And like she tries to get out
- 1:15:46and he is kind of aggressive. He's like what the fuck are you
- 1:15:49doing? Which I guess he probably
- 1:15:52doesn't want to be responsible for somebody jumping out of his
- 1:15:54car while he's driving. Yeah.
- 1:15:56Except they end up doing like a high beam thing and there's a
- 1:16:00crash. So Natalie gets out runs.
- 1:16:03Yeah. And then we don't see this guy
- 1:16:05again. Neither did he like have he's
- 1:16:07with Brad? Dorothy ran to the woods.
- 1:16:10He thus Begins the hooting and hollering he was two of his
- 1:16:14fingers Natalie. Here's Brenda screaming from the
- 1:16:20Vanden Stanley Hall. So she climbs into the room.
- 1:16:24She gets stuck into one of the rooms and finds Parker's body
- 1:16:29and the dean's body and Damons, body and Brenda's laying on a
- 1:16:33bed. Except then she sits up and
- 1:16:35knocks Natalie out cold. Now, Wakes up, she is tied up
- 1:16:39and we find out Brenda is puffy coat and then we get like the
- 1:16:44best five minutes of this movie is just Rebecca, Gayheart,
- 1:16:48Rebecca Gayheart, and it's amazing.
- 1:16:51It's so over-the-top. I I'm so sad that we don't get
- 1:16:55more of this but like, I feel like, maybe a full movie of this
- 1:16:58type of behavior would have been too much.
- 1:17:00I gets, perfect that she got it all out, right here.
- 1:17:02Yes, it was all leading up to this moment built up, like she
- 1:17:05was dying to do this. Yeah, so what UND is that it was
- 1:17:09her high school sweetheart would be fiance.
- 1:17:14That was in the car that wrecked as a result of Natalie and
- 1:17:20Michelle. Yeah.
- 1:17:21Hi being prank that they pulled their senior year.
- 1:17:24And then I like how she's telling her what she's going to
- 1:17:27do and she describes it as my favorite Uli.
- 1:17:30She has to tell you, you have to abbreviate, urban legend.
- 1:17:34That's what, but it's so much of what makes this moment.
- 1:17:38Great. That's true.
- 1:17:39Yeah. So dumb and over-the-top.
- 1:17:41You can't help but love it. Yeah.
- 1:17:42She's like super unhinged here but the urban legend she's going
- 1:17:45to do for her is the one where you get knocked out.
- 1:17:48Yeah. You cut the kidney out and still
- 1:17:51that's a, I don't know. That's a lame one.
- 1:17:54Again like I feel like that's just kind of like only like they
- 1:17:57should have done their research and chosen more interesting,
- 1:17:59urban legends for this. So she's playing to frame
- 1:18:02Wexler, except what happens is Reese busting.
- 1:18:05She's here for the rescue accept.
- 1:18:08Brenda attacks takes her gun. She was like, well, I guess I'm
- 1:18:11going to have to improvise except in the time it took them
- 1:18:15to kind of duke it out. Natalie escape from her
- 1:18:18bindings. I was she shot reace too by the
- 1:18:20way. Yeah, Paul walks in.
- 1:18:25He's all fakey fake Orson about his entrance is so dramatic.
- 1:18:29He's like what? He's I imagine he's like sitting
- 1:18:33in there in the hallway thinking of like the best interest he's
- 1:18:35like slow clap so quiet. Brenda immediately calls his
- 1:18:39bluff though. And you know what?
- 1:18:41None of it matters because res fucking bad-ass, Greece has a
- 1:18:45backup gun. I know boom.
- 1:18:49That's why she's the only cop because they're like she can
- 1:18:52handle it. Yeah we don't need anybody else.
- 1:18:55I know you haven't finished scream Queens.
- 1:18:57You just barely started it. She and that.
- 1:18:59No but there's this character. Denise hunt feel.
- 1:19:03She starts off as a security guard and she and stuff is like
- 1:19:08It just keeps going through the ranks is like security and
- 1:19:11police professional, and she gets to like the top.
- 1:19:15Oh, that's awesome. It's great, they were probably
- 1:19:18inspired by this. So Natalie takes the gun that
- 1:19:23Brenda dropped. She blasts out a window and,
- 1:19:27like, blasts Brenda out with the window, the paramedics are on
- 1:19:30the way. And instead of waiting to talk
- 1:19:33to the cops or get any kind of treatment bear in mind, Natalie
- 1:19:36has been stabbed in the stomach. MC.
- 1:19:38Yeah, her hand Paul drive away. And while they're driving, uh,
- 1:19:45they're talking about, you know, this would be the moment where
- 1:19:47there's a Twist. Yeah.
- 1:19:48Like the trying to cool down, I like, this is gonna turn into an
- 1:19:52urban legend to accept. You're going to be a cop or
- 1:19:55something, and I'm going to be a boy.
- 1:19:57And yeah, this is the part where the twist happens.
- 1:20:00And then, what do, you know, Brenda's in the backseat.
- 1:20:03So they slam on the brakes and she just flies through the
- 1:20:06windshield into the Very, yeah. And that's a like God damn it.
- 1:20:10She doesn't take damage. That's not gonna kill her.
- 1:20:13Yeah, because we cut to a year later, a new college campus and
- 1:20:18some kids are arguing about an urban legend and one of them is
- 1:20:22Brenda but another one of them is a member of the dog pit from
- 1:20:28saw six, you're killing me. I like to imagine that sharing
- 1:20:34this scene with Rebecca Gayheart inspired.
- 1:20:37Him to have that level. Yeah.
- 1:20:40Over the top. It's like if I'm gonna be in
- 1:20:42another war movie like he watch that performance like goddamn.
- 1:20:45Why did I not bring that energy to my scene?
- 1:20:48Yeah and if you like just like and he did it.
- 1:20:51He did, he did it in saw six. I can't wait to talk about the
- 1:20:55but it's so weird. Seeing him with long hair.
- 1:20:58He's like our favorite character from the movie even?
- 1:21:02Yeah, and he looks exactly well. Second figure.
- 1:21:04The first favorite character is the purana the character.
- 1:21:09Here on everybody. Go watch Sussex right now.
- 1:21:13When you're done listening, this just gonna do it, it's amazing.
- 1:21:16Yeah, it has very little to do with this, maybe besides the
- 1:21:19connections, we just made. But yeah, that's it.
- 1:21:25Yeah, that's it. Hey supey, he has, who came here
- 1:21:29for the the ending conversation there?
- 1:21:31She's like, oh yes. All six guy.
- 1:21:32Well, I'll go ahead and let you guys know she did sit in the
- 1:21:34armchair the entire time we watch the movie.
- 1:21:37So, So much. I want to drop it to 6.75 know
- 1:21:43because I do like this movie, I just like thinking about it and
- 1:21:47watching it and like there are just so many more interesting
- 1:21:51urban legends and like, even like you said, like some of them
- 1:21:54just aren't even urban legends. It's or if they are they're very
- 1:21:58obscure ones that are kind of not scary.
- 1:22:00So I don't know. I feel like they could have had
- 1:22:02more fun with it than they did. I think they had enough fun.
- 1:22:07But and I have fun with it and keeping it in eat, okay?
- 1:22:11All right, new average of seven point three, seven, five, seven
- 1:22:15point three seven. Five feels right for this.
- 1:22:17I think Ty. I was sleepy throughout all of
- 1:22:20this but to be fair, she's on drugs that are meant to make her
- 1:22:23sleepy right now. Yeah.
- 1:22:25I feel like sometimes I don't know like what this does to
- 1:22:27dogs. Like do they trip sometimes with
- 1:22:29this stuff because I feel like pain medicine can do it.
- 1:22:32Sometimes I see her watching the TV and like, she's got that look
- 1:22:34in her eyes like what the fuck am I doing right now?
- 1:22:37Yeah. Yeah, I think for this.
- 1:22:39I think she would agree with a seven.
- 1:22:41Yeah, I think so too. Whoa, no 6.
- 1:22:44Because of the dog. Oh yeah.
- 1:22:46You got a doctor. I can't no negotiation for that.
- 1:22:50So, who did you relate to? I think that I relate to God.
- 1:22:58I can't Dawson Creek. I can't remember his name.
- 1:23:02Damon Damon because I think that it would be fun to fuck with
- 1:23:07people with urban legends. However, I think the thing that
- 1:23:09I truly relate to is the P shyness, like, I'm not the type
- 1:23:13of dude, the pee out, the window of a car.
- 1:23:15Like, I will walk a mile to go pee this my relation.
- 1:23:18What about you? Probably Wexler cuz I really
- 1:23:22hate to just trying to do my fucking job, sometimes, you
- 1:23:26know? Yeah.
- 1:23:27Okay. Do we have a dream sequel?
- 1:23:30This isn't a franchise. So we can like see like I said,
- 1:23:33what I want. Is a like a modern-day like r
- 1:23:36equal type situation with Rebecca Gayheart is a cameo.
- 1:23:40I think that's a beautiful idea. You have to have Rebecca
- 1:23:42Gayheart. She has to sign on for it.
- 1:23:44Yes. Okay.
- 1:23:45All right, I got my internet review here.
- 1:23:47Okay. Oh, did we get a tagline?
- 1:23:51Okay. Yeah, we need to do tagline.
- 1:23:55Okay, so this one is a tough one to do a tag line for I think.
- 1:24:01Do you want to come up with, like a legit one?
- 1:24:03No, I was just like thinking, like, you know, have you heard
- 1:24:06the one about dot dot dot? Okay.
- 1:24:10Say something dumb like that. What's your favorite?
- 1:24:15You all my favorite you. Well you can just make it my
- 1:24:18favorite UL. My favorite UL is all of them.
- 1:24:23Was all okay, that works for me, that works for me.
- 1:24:27Okay, okay. Okay, so internet review.
- 1:24:31OK. Alright, so I found one on IMDb
- 1:24:34of somebody that does not care for this movie.
- 1:24:36Okay, they rated it a 2 out of 10.
- 1:24:39What the fuck? It's titled teenage slasher who,
- 1:24:42ultimately fails. Okay, urban legend could have
- 1:24:46become, okay? But the movie is neither scary
- 1:24:48funny or clever enough to be remembered.
- 1:24:51The story is cheaply drawn and is the act, and so is the
- 1:24:54acting. And the only thing functioning
- 1:24:56okay is the movies, unserious. Pause, the opening act is a
- 1:25:01classical horror intro, but what urban legend does, is it makes
- 1:25:05that? Or it makes every piece, rather
- 1:25:08boring than cheap fun, where scream was delicious fun, urban
- 1:25:13legend is mainstreamed and tame and we're scream, acted wildly
- 1:25:17and groovy urban legend. Is once again.
- 1:25:20Mainstreamed, this could have been a nice spin off of the
- 1:25:23teenage slasher movies, but it truly and although Jared Leto
- 1:25:27offers the best performance. It's surely, he neither can do
- 1:25:31anything with this movie. Urban legend is boring and the
- 1:25:34final climax, truly puts a sock in it.
- 1:25:36So I guess I could see how like I think without Rebecca Gayheart
- 1:25:41its performance, I feel like you got it would not be anywhere
- 1:25:44near as iconic iMovie is it as. Yeah.
- 1:25:46And I think like honestly it is kind of lackluster like on paper
- 1:25:52like the kidney urban legend as revenge for the high.
- 1:25:58Our urban legend like I always make it, make it related to the
- 1:26:01thing that you're like, getting revenge on her for I don't think
- 1:26:05that. Yes, you do with her.
- 1:26:08I guess. Well, no, she didn't because
- 1:26:10well, I guess it's related in that it's in a car.
- 1:26:13Yeah. And she, I guess attempted the
- 1:26:15high beam thing with her and five finger but like, yeah, I
- 1:26:19don't know. I just, it's like, oh lame.
- 1:26:22Final urban legend that like really have it be like the
- 1:26:26climax of the movie so I can see that.
- 1:26:28That although okay, so I think part of what works with that is
- 1:26:32that with the kidney highest usually what it is is that like
- 1:26:35you go on a date with somebody and you think it's going well
- 1:26:38and you're drugged and then you wake up and it's helpful of ice
- 1:26:41and your kidneys gone. And I think it kind of works as
- 1:26:44a good, like, overall metaphor of her relationship with Brenda.
- 1:26:49Okay. So she thought that she had 17 a
- 1:26:51good time and yeah, you know. Okay.
- 1:26:54Jesse. I honestly think that you're
- 1:26:55putting more thought into this movie than anybody working on
- 1:26:57this movie did. You're fighting harder for this
- 1:27:00thing. You're making more of a case for
- 1:27:01it than anybody else I've ever heard.
- 1:27:04So that's pretty fucking good. Okay listen, here's the thing.
- 1:27:07I obviously love this movie. I do understand why people might
- 1:27:11not love it, especially like I think scream gave it the
- 1:27:16opportunity to exist but I also think I don't even think that
- 1:27:22this it didn't It wasn't as effective as scream.
- 1:27:27I think, the reason people compare this movie, The Scream
- 1:27:30all the time is only because of like it being focused on teens
- 1:27:34and the time that it came out like really the writing or
- 1:27:37anything, I guess like maybe poking fun.
- 1:27:40At like some of the actors history is like a thing.
- 1:27:43But like other than that I don't really feel like scream had much
- 1:27:47of a like a fingerprint on this thing at all.
- 1:27:50Just personally, I guess, I don't know.
- 1:27:53I, I don't even feel like, it's like a very mainstream movie
- 1:27:56either. Like, I don't know.
- 1:27:58I, I just think it's, I think it's a fine movie.
- 1:28:02I think it's fun. It's not the best, but like it's
- 1:28:04a good time for this genre. I was super scared by this
- 1:28:09opening when I was younger. It's scary.
- 1:28:11Right? For a long time.
- 1:28:12So Total Eclipse of the Heart was like a trigger song.
- 1:28:15Really? Yeah.
- 1:28:16Would you ever sing it in the car by yourself like that?
- 1:28:21By the time I was old enough to drive, it wasn't an issue.
- 1:28:26Okay, good. Because like, I would be kind of
- 1:28:28afraid for you that you're afraid that the killers in your
- 1:28:31car, waiting for the moment that you sing this song.
- 1:28:33So, they could be there for like a month.
- 1:28:35I could be there for a year, every time I get in my car,
- 1:28:38though, every single time. Yeah.
- 1:28:40Alright. I thought you're gonna say, like
- 1:28:41I do check my car. Every time I wasn't a total
- 1:28:43eclipse of the heart, which that would be fair to could also just
- 1:28:47be every time I move my car. It's fine.
- 1:28:49You know, that's true. You listen.
- 1:28:50Song a lot need you tonight. Okay, so I've got one listener
- 1:28:56of you. Okay, it's from our boy,
- 1:28:58aquellia boobs. Okay, says, yo, showing my age
- 1:29:02with this one. Watch this in theaters, when I
- 1:29:04was freshman in high school fucking Pacey Witter.
- 1:29:07Faking us out with that. Pop rock scene from a movie with
- 1:29:10a nice rubber England. Inclusion had completely
- 1:29:13forgotten what it was in this thing as well.
- 1:29:15I always forget Jared Leto's in this one.
- 1:29:17I think people always forget about Jared Leto in well, other
- 1:29:22than like, you know, his fucking rock band and morbius.
- 1:29:26You just know that if this maybe it was, maybe five years later,
- 1:29:29Jared Leto would be replaced with Jay pads.
- 1:29:31Oh my God. Yeah, I mean like it wasn't even
- 1:29:33that long later. Like Cry Wolf came out and
- 1:29:36they're like, yeah, cheap houses and cry wolf.
- 1:29:38Exactly, yeah. Shittier version of this movie,
- 1:29:41who I can't get wet. Oh, he's not really into that
- 1:29:45right now. We got Jay pets.
- 1:29:49Yeah, he took over. Chair letters area, right there.
- 1:29:54All right, well, that is it for this weeks episode.
- 1:29:59So, next week, next week, I'm not gonna tell you guys where to

- 1:30:14This is Valentine, by the way, that came out 2001.
- 1:30:19Starring David Boreanaz. Realis.
- 1:30:21Yes actually. It's quite a cat.
- 1:30:24It's another one of those movies where it's like, wow, this is
- 1:30:26quite a catch. I think it's just this director
- 1:30:29and his ability to pull in like people like of, that era.
- 1:30:33Yeah, I don't know how he managed to do it or how any of
- 1:30:36them manage to do it, but it does have another amazing casts,
- 1:30:40but normally this thing can be found on to be that's how we've

- 1:32:21with their Valentine's Day episode and talking more early
- 1:32:272000s, late 90s. Just, it's just a sure it's very
- 1:32:31vibey this month - one movie, which somehow despite being a
- 1:32:35late 2000s, still the has that early 2000's feel to it?
- 1:32:41Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:32:42You know, it's very isolated. So there's not like a lot of
- 1:32:45Technology involved and it's also Adam green and he's just
- 1:32:50yeah. Yeah, he's got that kind of
- 1:32:51sensibility about him. It's got another horror icon and
- 1:32:55we got Kane Hodder, appearing momentarily.
- 1:32:59I was The Lamplighter. I'm not gonna be able to not
- 1:33:06without just doing that. Adam Scott voice the entire
- 1:33:09time, okay? Okay, alright.
- 1:33:14Well, just talk about this shit next time, so until then, bye.
- 1:33:33Oh boy, I hear a cat fight Brewing that's Scout.
- 1:33:35Hey Scout growling said deep and very there.
- 1:33:44It is. Yeah, they always wait until we
- 1:33:47start to, to be fair. They fight like this daily, they
- 1:33:50do, but they haven't done this one since I've been home.
