- 0:00SPEAKER_02: Doc, Doc, it's Marty.
- 0:02SPEAKER_02: Listen, I know you don't want to know anything about the future, okay?
- 0:04SPEAKER_02: But listen, this is episode 177 of Project Ecology, and we're gonna be talking about Back to the Future when you went back to the Wild West.
- 0:13SPEAKER_02: I gotta tell you some big news.
- 0:16SPEAKER_02: Viewers, thanks for joining us.
- 0:18SPEAKER_02: I'm one third of your host this week, Rich, with a terrible Marty McFly impression to get us going, but I am excited to talk about, yes, you guessed it, a rip roaring adventure through the West.
- 0:31SPEAKER_02: But I can't do this alone.
- 0:33SPEAKER_02: I am joined, of course, by I'll go first.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: Dakota.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: And I I think that was actually a pretty decent Marty impression.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: I actually quite enjoyed it.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: So a little, you know, slow clap for for Rich over here.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: Thank you for that.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: Um you actually had your own experience with the Wild West uh just a few minutes ago.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: We we were about to start recording and then you just disappeared.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: You got sucked back into 1885.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: No, no bueno, hope that doesn't happen any uh anymore.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, I'm Dakota and uh I'm the second of three hosts today.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: Jen is not with us, but we are joined as always with Anthony and you know that's that's heavy guys that we're gonna be covering something yeah, it's it's it's heavy, you know.
- 1:14SPEAKER_02: And uh but is there a problem with with with uh gravity in the future?
- 1:20SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: There's a problem with gravity in the past.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: And uh, you know, just add ask mad dog about that.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: Um I I love that we're at the point in Doc's life cycle where he's still or where where he's finally saying like it's heavy, you know, like even though he is being sucked into the past and he's lived there for the past eight months, he uses that verbiage pretty pretty regularly throughout this movie.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: And I I I found that quite appreciable.
- 1:48SPEAKER_02: Well, it's like you know, when your parents are I mean, as a teacher, the same thing happens, right?
- 1:52SPEAKER_02: Like I'm by diffusion, I I hear these terms, you know, and then they do become part of or lexicon, especially as teachers.
- 2:01SPEAKER_02: Like I don't you know, like we say crash out more than I think that I would have said if I weren't in the teaching.
- 2:07SPEAKER_02: And 6'7, obviously, you know, so I I think that that's part of it, man.
- 2:11SPEAKER_02: Like my I remember my mom, like, you know, even my grandmother one time was like, could you please she's like, Could you please clean up your clothes, dude?
- 2:20SPEAKER_02: And she just looked around the room like looking for applause because like she felt she just pulled off the funniest joke of like 1997.
- 2:27SPEAKER_02: So I think there's some I think old people do like to take on, you know, the young people's jargon.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: Oh, it's funny.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: I like that.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: And yeah, it is it is true.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: I'm sure that you know, now that I'm uh a father, I'm gonna be picking up random stupid verbiage and um jargon from whatever generation he's attached to.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: Uh so yeah, that's it's gonna be that's gonna be uh a fun little uh detour for my vocabulary for a bit.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I'm excited to talk about what we are talking about today, which is Back to the Future Part Three.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: It is part three.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: They call it part three and part two and just back to the future.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: I I always kind of found that a bit clunky.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: You know, it's not just Back to the Future 3, it's part three.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: I love this movie actually.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm I'm not afraid to say it.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: This is the first time I've ever seen Back to the Future Part 3, and I had a I f I feel like I went to the Wild Wild West and uh I had a good time with it.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: Before we jump into our discussion of Back to the Future Part 3, uh what have we been up to recently?
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: Uh let's start with Anthony.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: Um I have been uh I actually went and I I'm playing some I'm playing even more Final Fantasy now.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: I am playing the demo to Final Fantasy Revenants, which is the it's like so it's the that there was a mobile game, a mobile gotcha game called Final Fantasy Bravius Exfius, if I remember, or Bravest Exfius or something like that.
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: And so that is this game, but like made into a full-fledged Final Fantasy game, but they do have some gotcha elements to it, but not the you have to pay money out, but like you're kind of you're s kind of summoning these heroes from other worlds to help you fight this great evil, and um so like you're so there's characters from like other games in it.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: Like I know that they like lightning from Final Fantasy III or th Final Fantasy 13 is in it, um, and uh along with some other characters.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: So I've been playing the demo to that that comes out I think next month.
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: Uh man, there there's there's a lot of like then Nintendo announced like a lot also.
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: They announced a follow-up to Metroid Dread.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: Um, I forgot what it was like Metroid Resurgence or no, no, it wasn't Resurgent, it was something.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: Um they dropped a Ocarina of Time or or uh Legend of Zelda like Switch 2 edition.
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: And um, so I mean so I have to go back and watch the rest of it, but they uh this is as of recording like the day of they had this uh the the like switch live or their um their like announcements and stuff, so I was kind of watching that, but aside from that, nothing too much.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: How about you guys uh Dakota?
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I had um an interesting week um where I decided to so uh for those of you who don't know, I have been working um on and off on a project for almost or about a year now at this point.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: Uh it was September of last year where I started collecting all of the dated entries.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, I've I've been going across fiction from books to TV to movies and video games um and and more to try and just piece together a history of fictional events.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: You know, I just thought it would be kind of fun.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: There there are certain things that happen um just on our Gregorian calendar, you know, let you know the the Avengers, they they they fight um the Chitari invasion on May 4th, 2012.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: Um in I Am Legends, the the guy one of the guys, I forget his name, he finds the cure for um the infection that's turning everyone into zombies on today as we're recording September 9th, 2012.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: So there's a bunch of different stuff from different universes that all occurs in 2012, and the list goes on year after year after year.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: Um so today I I found uh a few really fun little things of like uh universes that collide.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: Like um in Ted Lasso, there's an episode where um Roy Kent, uh one of their ex-football players, he comes back to the team to coach.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: Well, you can map that to the exact same day in January um in 2021 that in Only Murders in the Building, the main the main murder of season one of that show happens on the same day that Roy Kent in London uh comes back to to coach for um AFC Richmond.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: And I found a couple of those throughout the years.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: Like there's an episode in the film that we're watching today, uh, or that we're talking about today, um Back to the Future Part Three, in one of the 1955 scenes in October.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: Is it October?
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, in October.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: It's the like if you go back and look at some of the like behind the scenes like um newspapers in Incredibles, the last time Elastigirl was ever seen was the exact same day that uh they sent the Del DeLorean back to 1886, you know.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: So there's like little crossovers throughout all of like fictional history that I that I've been finding pretty cool.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: So I've decided I'm gonna make an app.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: I'm and I've been working on an app and I've sent uh these guys a couple uh videos and I've shared it on Twitter a little bit.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: Um and sorry, this is a really long-winded of like what I've been up to and everything, but it's something I'm really excited about.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: And uh I think it's coming along pretty well.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: Anthony was asking before the show what I'm using.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: I'm using Xcode, uh, which is Apple's native um not an it's not an app builder, but it's it's their native code thing that is for building apps and websites, I'm assuming.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, I'm using it to to build an app page by page.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: Um and it's it's been uh a huge work in progress, but I've kind of set myself up for success because I've kept such a detailed like Excel sheet of everything.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: So if I go into my Excel sheet right now, um I have like an event ID for every single date.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: I've over a thousand dates at this point.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: Um I have the title, I have the month, the day, the year that it takes place, the year it was released, the franchise that it exists in, the continuity that it exists in, um, the different tags that like you know, this was a spoken date, this is a prop date.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: So I have a bunch of like data for for every single date that I've collected, and putting that into the code makes you know organizing super easy.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: Because all I have to do is, you know, just everything that has, you know, this month plus this day put in chronological order or something like that.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: And it it it's working out pretty cool.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: So I'm I'm really excited about it.
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: And I'm hoping you don't hear my my son screaming upstairs.
- 10:09SPEAKER_00: Because in the audio from the last recording that I did, uh I can I can faintly hear him screaming in in the background.
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: But uh he's a baby, he's two months old now.
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: Um, and he is my arch nemesis when it comes to recording anything.
- 10:25SPEAKER_00: So that's that's what I've been up to.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: Um Rich, what have you been up to?
- 10:31SPEAKER_02: Uh just so you know, he's my arch nemesis just period.
- 10:34SPEAKER_02: So um not even just in recording.
- 10:37SPEAKER_02: Good.
- 10:37SPEAKER_02: We have we have a we have a rivalry already.
- 10:39SPEAKER_02: That's that's good.
- 10:40SPEAKER_02: Uh now uh let's see.
- 10:42SPEAKER_02: So actually uh I was just gonna just jump on what Anthony was saying.
- 10:46SPEAKER_02: You know, I just saw the release for Legends of Zelda, we're gonna get a time remake.
- 10:50SPEAKER_02: Uh I'm really ups I'm really upset with myself because my son has been trying to convince me to for us to all be different characters for uh from the franchise for Comic Con this year.
- 11:00SPEAKER_02: Uh the New York City Comic Con uh New York Comic Con and Jajavit Center.
- 11:05SPEAKER_02: And I just didn't understand where he was coming from.
- 11:09SPEAKER_02: And then when the release came out, he goes, Dad, this is why I was trying to get us to do this.
- 11:13SPEAKER_02: And I was like, Bro, I didn't understand why you were trying to get us to do a game that's like 40 years old.
- 11:19SPEAKER_02: So I don't even know if I mentioned it.
- 11:21SPEAKER_02: We went to AnimeCon a couple weeks ago.
- 11:23SPEAKER_02: Did I have I talked to you guys about this?
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, you mentioned you mentioned uh that you went as I IRA.
- 11:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so now uh our plan is actually kind of tying into what Dakota was talking about.
- 11:34SPEAKER_02: We are going as characters from Ted Lasso.
- 11:37SPEAKER_02: My wife is going to go as Ted.
- 11:39SPEAKER_02: Uh oh, so you are doing Ted.
- 11:41SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, Charlie, Charlie wants to go as Trent Krim.
- 11:44SPEAKER_02: Uh from the independent.
- 11:46SPEAKER_02: From the independent, yes, of course.
- 11:49SPEAKER_02: And uh they wanted me to be Coach Beard, but uh I'm not there's a part of me that wants to be Roy.
- 11:54SPEAKER_02: Like I'm like, why can't I just be Roy so I can curse the entire day?
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: Like around children and just be like this would be a Comic Con, I'm I'm guessing.
- 12:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:05SPEAKER_02: So we're uh we're gonna we're in the middle of getting our costumes.
- 12:09SPEAKER_02: And I guess in in gaming stuff, uh I've been on the fence.
- 12:13SPEAKER_02: You know, I don't really pre-order things anymore because in my older age, it doesn't really matter if I get it when it comes out.
- 12:21SPEAKER_02: But September 4th, 15th next week does mark the release of Insomniac's Wolverine.
- 12:26SPEAKER_02: And after hemming and hawing about it, I decided to uh go ahead and actually purchase a disc.
- 12:31SPEAKER_02: So uh I'm pretty excited.
- 12:33SPEAKER_02: I, you know, hopefully actually next time that we record, uh hopefully I'll have maybe logged some hours or something.
- 12:40SPEAKER_02: So I I'm very Wolverine is my favorite character in probably all of media uh and uh definitely comic books, and I'm so excited to hopefully get my hands on what is a true to Wolverine video game.
- 12:57SPEAKER_00: Excellent.
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm holding out on that one.
- 13:00SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm gonna wait to see what it's like.
- 13:04SPEAKER_01: Uh there's I get it.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: I'm cautiously optimistic with it.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: Like there's something about it that's that hasn't grabbed me yet.
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: And I'm very uh but I'm like that with every game now, just because like there a lot of games nowadays have been solely like just they're they're building themselves on hype, but not really showing much to really like justify that hype if that makes sense.
- 13:36SPEAKER_01: And I I know that there's a lot of like GTA 6, I know I mean it's gonna do well.
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: Like GTA 6, a lot of people, you know, they're Rockstar could fart rainbows and people would still buy it, right?
- 13:50SPEAKER_01: I just think that that it's not gonna be the game that people think it is.
- 13:55SPEAKER_01: So it's just I I think that it's a weird place for the video game industry, and I think that the better games have that have actually come out are not really like triple A or third or first party games, but a lot of like uh indie or second party games, or I mean like third third party or indie games have been doing like really really good.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: With the exception of like some studios, like Capcom has has been doing pretty well and with um among some other studios, but a lot of these other studios have been kind of wont wont.
- 14:35SPEAKER_02: I won't lie to you, uh I just I just just because I wanted to comment on the GTA 6 stuff, it feels you know, it's funny.
- 14:43SPEAKER_02: Charlie my son, uh he's 11.
- 14:46SPEAKER_02: He he knows there's some games he can't play, like he just knows that we're not gonna agree to certain things, you know.
- 14:51SPEAKER_02: Like he can't play Last of Us and things like that.
- 14:54SPEAKER_02: Like those they're those are too adult themed in my opinion.
- 14:58SPEAKER_02: So he saw the Wolverine kind of previews and he was like, I saw the preview and I shut it off because I was like, I I know I'm not gonna be able to play that.
- 15:05SPEAKER_02: You know, and I was like, Yeah, like that's probably gonna be one that you you can't play, you know.
- 15:10SPEAKER_02: Um and then he then he's like, Wait, you played GTA?
- 15:14SPEAKER_02: And I was like, Yeah, man, I've played like every single one since like the first like ridiculously terrible version.
- 15:21SPEAKER_02: And you know, I'm 44 and there's a part of me that's like I don't know why I'm fine playing Red Dead, but I also play as like an angel basically.
- 15:31SPEAKER_02: Uh I I I don't know if I um I don't know if I can wrap my head around the GTA things as a 44-year-old now.
- 15:43SPEAKER_02: I don't know, you know, father.
- 15:44SPEAKER_02: I if if it hits different, you know, and I don't want him walking in and seeing me like spray down like uh a sidewalk of pedestrians, you know.
- 15:53SPEAKER_02: Like I I just don't know how to explain that gameplay mechanic to my 11-year-old son.
- 15:59SPEAKER_02: So I that's one that I'm definitely not I'm not I'm not gonna engage with when it releases.
- 16:04SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna give it some time and kind of see uh how I feel about it.
- 16:08SPEAKER_01: Well yeah, you'll have more than enough time.
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: I'm pretty sure that there will once this drops, though they most likely won't drop another GTA game for like the next 25 years.
- 16:19SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, it's gonna it's gonna they uh they can't.
- 16:22SPEAKER_00: They physically can't make it like they used to.
- 16:25SPEAKER_00: They they can't pump these out every two years.
- 16:27SPEAKER_00: It it's gonna be interesting.
- 16:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um, I'm I'm intrigued by a Wolverine game.
- 16:34SPEAKER_00: Have not seen a lick of footage besides that teaser that they dropped like what eight years ago of him at the bar.
- 16:41SPEAKER_00: Um so I I have no idea what the game or gameplay looks like.
- 16:45SPEAKER_00: I still have yet to play Insomniac Spider-Man, so maybe I'll give that a try.
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: The first one is really good.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: The first one is great.
- 16:55SPEAKER_00: Excellent.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: I don't I don't play games like that, yeah.
- 16:59SPEAKER_02: Oh, gotcha.
- 17:00SPEAKER_02: Alright.
- 17:01SPEAKER_02: We just like Charlie and I both they just released a new like so when Brand New Day came out, they basically released the brand new day costume for free uh to everybody, like as an unlock.
- 17:12SPEAKER_02: So Charlie and I both re-downloaded the game.
- 17:15SPEAKER_02: Like it was like, wait, what?
- 17:17SPEAKER_02: And we both like on the same day, I went upstairs after I had been playing it, and he was like, Hey dad, and I'm like, wait, what are you doing?
- 17:24SPEAKER_02: He's like, I'm playing Spider-Man.
- 17:25SPEAKER_02: I'm like, no way! I just started a new game plus to get the outfit.
- 17:29SPEAKER_02: He's like, Me too! So we both in the last two weeks just like replayed Spider-Man fully, you know, like I and beat the whole thing, Spider-Man 2.
- 17:38SPEAKER_02: It's not as good as as the first one, as Anthony said, but uh it's a it's a good time, man.
- 17:43SPEAKER_02: Speaking of time, though, we don't have all the time in the world.
- 17:47SPEAKER_00: We we don't have all the time in the world.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: I unfortunately have a job that requires me to wake up at 4.20 in the morning so that I can get there at 6 in the morning, which is really uh dreadful.
- 17:58SPEAKER_00: But I do like the idea of going back in time.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: Um I think that this film does a pretty good job of it.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: Perhaps not as good of a job as the first one, uh, but we're gonna get into it.
- 18:11SPEAKER_00: We're gonna we're gonna jump into the nitty-gritty of Back to the Future Part Three.
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: But before we jump into any of that, I just want to take a mention um behind me.
- 18:22SPEAKER_00: You guys can't see this because this is not a video podcast, but I have superimposed myself onto a picture of Buford Tannin, not Biff Tannin, Buford Tannin covered in horse manure.
- 18:35SPEAKER_00: He is juicy with it.
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: He is covered in the sauce.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: Um, and I just want uh take a moment before I forget to remind our listeners.
- 18:46SPEAKER_02: I'm physically ill.
- 18:48SPEAKER_02: I'm physically ill that you're talking about the juice that's dripping off of him when he's covered in manure.
- 18:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's he's covered, that's for sure.
- 18:57SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, no, uh, so one thing we like to uh remind our listeners is to please give this podcast a five-star juicy review.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: Maybe not quite as juicy as the the the juice-covered Buford Tannin, uh covered in manure, uh, the one that hates manure.
- 19:17SPEAKER_00: Um and yeah, uh please, please guys, I'm begging you.
- 19:22SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm literally I'm I'm I'm rolling manure here.
- 19:26SPEAKER_02: Make sure you guys and you know, make sure you guys do that and then grab yourself an unofficial uh official a beer of the podcast, Voodoo Ranger Juicy IPA.
- 19:38SPEAKER_02: Unofficial official.
- 19:39SPEAKER_00: You know, I I could probably honestly I could pro Voodoo Ranger is a a bigger company.
- 19:45SPEAKER_00: There's a there's another company near me, a brewery that's all of 15 minutes away, that is called Sloop, and they produce a beer a very popular beer called Juice Bomb.
- 19:59SPEAKER_00: I there is a possibility that I could go to Sloop and say, Hey, can I call this the official beer of my podcast?
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: And you know, the waitress could be like, sure.
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: Um, so I might have a waitress.
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: That the waitress that no say in the company.
- 20:14SPEAKER_02: Dude, I hope you're not just doing this.
- 20:16SPEAKER_02: I hope you're not doing this for the show.
- 20:18SPEAKER_02: I hope you're not doing this for the show because I would be like crestfallen if I find out that you're not following through with this, right?
- 20:24SPEAKER_02: Like, I I like juice bomb sloop.
- 20:27SPEAKER_02: Honestly, if I can't get my hands on a juicy IPA, all jokes aside, I grab a sloop.
- 20:32SPEAKER_02: I like sloop.
- 20:33SPEAKER_02: I cannot believe this.
- 20:36SPEAKER_02: So exciting.
- 20:37SPEAKER_01: That definitely sounds like a fake beverage from a mainfoot TV movie.
- 20:45SPEAKER_03: Juice Bomb.
- 20:46SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm actually it's so big, Anthony.
- 20:48SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm pretty sure I've had it in Miami.
- 20:50SPEAKER_00: Like I've that's that's how big uh juice bomb is.
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: I I'm pretty sure.
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: You can look this up.
- 20:57SPEAKER_00: S-L-O-O-P, juicebomb near me.
- 21:01SPEAKER_00: I'm sure, you know, if you have if you guys have like a beer distributor or whatever, you'll probably find it.
- 21:07SPEAKER_00: Ah it is an IPA.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: It is it is an IPA, yeah.
- 21:11SPEAKER_01: I'm not an IPA guy, man.
- 21:12SPEAKER_01: It's too hoppy.
- 21:15SPEAKER_00: I wouldn't say this one is that high.
- 21:17SPEAKER_00: It's more citrusy, but it it does, it'll pack, it'll pack the headache.
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: So um, you know, it's still the unofficial beer of this podcast.
- 21:24SPEAKER_00: Uh, so I I can't really for me so off topic.
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: We're so off topic right now.
- 21:32SPEAKER_00: Uh let's jump back.
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: In the beginning, or at the end, actually.
- 21:36SPEAKER_00: Let's start at the end of part two.
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: Our Marty McFly is back in 1955.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: He realizes he needs to go back because Doc has been sent to 1885.
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: And we we get sent on this, you know, trip where he has uh a letter that he's been, you know, that has been hand delivered to Marty at this.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: Exact location, but like next to this billboard.
- 22:04SPEAKER_00: And from there, he goes back.
- 22:08SPEAKER_02: You skip the excitement of the mail carrier.
- 22:11SPEAKER_02: Alright.
- 22:12SPEAKER_02: Like, like the dude, like that, this is one of the parts that I love, right?
- 22:17SPEAKER_02: That this the mail they're like, he shows up.
- 22:19SPEAKER_02: Like they do it.
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: They they're there when they're told to.
- 22:21SPEAKER_02: And they're like, we've been holding this for eight.
- 22:25SPEAKER_02: You know, I don't know math, right?
- 22:27SPEAKER_02: For blank years.
- 22:28SPEAKER_02: You know, like like there's like the intrigue that they must have felt like as the date was coming closer.
- 22:35SPEAKER_00: Like that weird package, bro, that's been sitting there, it's finally gonna be delivered.
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: Can you believe it?
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: 75 years, yeah.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:41SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 22:42SPEAKER_02: Like that's just that, like, it's wholesome.
- 22:44SPEAKER_02: Like that, that that's like it's wholesome because like, you know, if you worked in a job like the post office, you would feel like, oh my god, what's like this is such a cool lore like thing that's happening in my job, you know?
- 22:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:57SPEAKER_00: There's there's a great episode of Doctor Who called Blink, where um one of the characters gets sent, it's it's very back to the future, um, gets sent back in time, and they uh tell their grandson to deliver this message to the person, and it's just a wibbly wobbly timey whimey story.
- 23:17SPEAKER_00: Um But this is also kind of a wibbly wobbly timey whimey story.
- 23:21SPEAKER_00: And so, yes, the mail carrier, great, but he's not in this movie.
- 23:26SPEAKER_00: So um he finds Doc.
- 23:28SPEAKER_00: They both they send Marty back to the back to the past again.
- 23:34SPEAKER_00: It's the nomenclature is really difficult, you know.
- 23:36SPEAKER_00: The back to the future, back to the past um is is a little uh back and forth.
- 23:43SPEAKER_00: But I love the intro of him going to 1885, like those those those Indians aren't gonna be there.
- 23:49SPEAKER_00: Marty and that's exactly what he finds over there.
- 23:56SPEAKER_00: That's such a great way to enter.
- 24:00SPEAKER_00: I just realized just now that my my doc uh impression is actually not terrible.
- 24:06SPEAKER_02: Like Anthony, like honestly, like I don't know how many times you've watched it, but I've watched this so many times, right?
- 24:11SPEAKER_02: So like I think there's a joy in like hearing that line and knowing.
- 24:17SPEAKER_02: Like, like I was sitting there like, oh boy, here comes, here comes, you know, like just fantastic.
- 24:22SPEAKER_02: Also, um RIP uh 1980s, where they're just saying Indians, uh unbelievable.
- 24:29SPEAKER_02: Uh unbelievable.
- 24:31SPEAKER_02: Like that was that a little jarring for you guys?
- 24:33SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 24:34SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm you know, I'm in education, so like it's oh instead of hearing like uh Native Americans.
- 24:40SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean it's it's a it's a w Wild West story, and that's what they called them.
- 24:45SPEAKER_02: No, but the guy called them before that in 1955.
- 24:48SPEAKER_02: Or no, uh or when he said like when I'm sorry, when he says they're not gonna be there.
- 24:54SPEAKER_02: He says the Indians aren't gonna be there.
- 24:56SPEAKER_00: Like that was Doctor Oh I see, I see.
- 24:59SPEAKER_00: Um That was till 1955, Doc.
- 25:03SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 25:04SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 25:04SPEAKER_00: So he's sorry, sorry, he's not woke like that.
- 25:07SPEAKER_00: He's not like he's not woke like 1885, Doc.
- 25:11SPEAKER_01: He still would have said it in like the 1980s.
- 25:14SPEAKER_00: He would have, yeah.
- 25:14SPEAKER_00: It's yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 25:15SPEAKER_00: It was entirely common.
- 25:17SPEAKER_00: Um, pretty much up until like 20 years ago.
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: Great way to enter that that's one thing that I I didn't feel was I guess adequately explored in this movie was like Marty's ancestors.
- 25:36SPEAKER_00: They they introduce them, they he he stays at their place for a night, um, and then I forget Seamus.
- 25:45SPEAKER_00: Seamus shows up at the bar at the end, and he's just like, I just feel like I'm here to do something, and then he doesn't do anything, except take the gun from from Am I am I missing something?
- 25:58SPEAKER_00: Did he do something in that moment?
- 26:00SPEAKER_02: So he so he had been kind of counseling Marty about the fact that he can't lose his temper.
- 26:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:08SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 26:08SPEAKER_02: So like I think that Seamus was there to kind of reinforce that, and then Marty remembers this and then like you know, has the the boilerplate, or I'm sorry, the stove pot, the the what is that called?
- 26:25SPEAKER_02: A um stovepipe plate.
- 26:30SPEAKER_02: And um I think I think that that's what Seamus was essentially there to do was to kind of like reel back Marty from his rage so that he could outsmart Mad Dog.
- 26:43SPEAKER_01: I like how his ancestors are just like him and his like mom.
- 26:50SPEAKER_01: It's so crazy.
- 26:52SPEAKER_02: And honestly, before Eddie Murphy didn't.
- 26:55SPEAKER_00: I will say it was it they did it well.
- 26:57SPEAKER_00: They did it well.
- 26:58SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 26:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 26:59SPEAKER_02: Like this this franchise does it really well.
- 27:02SPEAKER_02: I mean, Leah Thompson, you know, she's like 9,000 characters, and like, man, I gotta say, I'm a man of routines.
- 27:12SPEAKER_02: I don't know about you two fellas.
- 27:13SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 27:14SPEAKER_02: I I like my routines.
- 27:17SPEAKER_02: I love that this franchise recreates the scenes, right?
- 27:22SPEAKER_02: Like Marty is laying in the in bed in 1885 and he's like, Ma, I had such a weird dream, right?
- 27:28SPEAKER_02: Because his ancestor is so much like his mom, you know.
- 27:32SPEAKER_02: And and he snaps out of it just like he did in 1955, you know, when he thought it was his mom when you know, like she was it was the young version of his mom.
- 27:40SPEAKER_02: Like, I think that it's so such a like simple thing to do, but one nostalgia barrier member berries, right?
- 27:51SPEAKER_02: Like, oh member berries, but but it also like connects things and also like makes it seem like there are certain traits in your family that are kind of passed down, right, uh genetically that we that they all kind of exhibit.
- 28:05SPEAKER_02: And I I I just think that's really cool.
- 28:07SPEAKER_00: Anthony, we you've been you've been awfully silent about this movie.
- 28:11SPEAKER_00: Um you have previously mentioned that this one for you is is the the weak link of the series, and I think that that's actually a common understanding of it.
- 28:24SPEAKER_00: I know um Jen's upbringing, uh Jen, my wife, and her family, they would watch the first two and then they would watch another Western because I guess they didn't like Back to the Future Part three, but that doesn't really even make any sense.
- 28:39SPEAKER_00: So I hear that's ridiculous.
- 28:40SPEAKER_00: It is a ridiculous um thing for them to do.
- 28:44SPEAKER_00: But uh what are you what are your thoughts?
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: Like So I don't I don't hate this movie uh as as a Western style movie, it's fun and as a back to the future movie it's fun, but I think because like I grew up watching this the uh vibe of the film like definitely drastically changes because you're going from you know they're kind of like going back and forth from like the the 50s and then all the way up to uh it was like all the way up to like 2015 and like so I guess like the the the tone of the of the f series was kind of set between the first two and then when you get to this one it kind of slows it down a little bit.
- 29:34SPEAKER_01: So I think that that's what makes it a little it's not jarring, but it's it it the I think the tone shift is what makes it a little odd for me, but it's still a fun movie to watch, and I do think that um was it Thomas Wilson?
- 29:51SPEAKER_01: Like I think he just had a really good time playing all of these characters because like you can tell the subtleties between each character, like it wasn't just Biff Tannen as the same character.
- 30:05SPEAKER_01: You could tell that they that they were separate characters, but you could very much so tell that they were all like ancestors, like he did a really good job with that.
- 30:14SPEAKER_01: Th there are things that I do like about this film, but I think that the shift is what kind of throws me off.
- 30:22SPEAKER_01: Whereas like, you know, obviously, like, you know, we love the the first one for you know whatever reason, and then you kind of get like the second one, you're like double dipping, right?
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: Like you're going to the future, and then you're going back to the past, and then it's it's it's insane.
- 30:38SPEAKER_01: And then like you go back to you go back to the future, and then there's like shifts, right?
- 30:44SPEAKER_01: Like in in uh what happened in that timeline, and then like by the end of three, like you don't know, like okay, what's the modern world like now?
- 30:54SPEAKER_01: You don't really get that, like you don't get that that um that closure.
- 30:59SPEAKER_01: So I think that was also a gripe for me too.
- 31:03SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 31:04SPEAKER_02: I think it I think it would you were kind of supposed to underst for me.
- 31:08SPEAKER_02: Like I understood that they fixed I know this doesn't make sense because of everything we think about butterfly effects and how everything changes, right?
- 31:16SPEAKER_02: But like yeah, like it's not gonna be called Clayton Ravine anymore and things like that, right?
- 31:20SPEAKER_02: But I I I feel like it if maybe hope like too hopefully is just like everything's fixed, you know, like everything's gonna go back to you know like everything's fine now.
- 31:32SPEAKER_02: There like this isn't gonna happen anymore, there are no problems.
- 31:35SPEAKER_00: So I think that the tone shift well, I guess I'm coming at this movie relatively fresh.
- 31:44SPEAKER_00: I haven't seen the other two movies since we recorded last or since we we last talked about them.
- 31:50SPEAKER_00: So it's been a couple months at the very least since I've experienced anything back to the future.
- 31:55SPEAKER_00: So I'm not I'm not coming into this movie like with that back and forth.
- 32:00SPEAKER_00: So I've never experienced it one, two, and three.
- 32:04SPEAKER_00: And that's something that I should do at some point.
- 32:06SPEAKER_00: Um just for the manure and giggles.
- 32:11SPEAKER_00: But what I will say is that I found the pace refreshing.
- 32:17SPEAKER_00: It was it was mostly linear, you know.
- 32:20SPEAKER_00: The the second movie goes back and forth, back and forth a few times, and there are several different aborted or alternate timelines that we get to you know explore.
- 32:31SPEAKER_00: And this one, we do have an alternate timeline, we just only kind of get a glimpse of it at the beginning with like the tombstone.
- 32:38SPEAKER_00: So we just know that the tombstone is the end of this timeline that cannot happen.
- 32:45SPEAKER_00: So that's that's what needs to be fixed.
- 32:48SPEAKER_00: And they have a week to do it, you know.
- 32:50SPEAKER_00: They they they send Marty um or Clint Eastwood Clint Eastwood rather on the 2nd of September 1885, and he has uh six days from there to find Doc, uh find a way to you know refuel um the fuelless DeLorean and get it to go 88 miles per hour.
- 33:13SPEAKER_02: And can I ask you a question?
- 33:14SPEAKER_02: Did you guys Marty seems like a smart dude?
- 33:18SPEAKER_02: Okay, when he's like there's no fuel, they're like we can't just fuel it up like in 1885 and Doc Rosen No Marty, like gasoline hasn't been invented yet.
- 33:32SPEAKER_02: I I I was just a little surprised by Marty's negativity, like at this point in the series.
- 33:38SPEAKER_00: I you know what?
- 33:39SPEAKER_00: I was I didn't question it, you know.
- 33:42SPEAKER_01: No, it wasn't so it he wasn't naive because he thought it he thought that that um the fusion thing that the the thing that where you throw the trash in it, he thought that also fueled the car too.
- 33:58SPEAKER_01: But he didn't realize that it that it just feeled the the actual like you know time circuits and time machines, gotcha, but it didn't actually feel the car, so that's where that's where he he was a little mixed up, like, oh crap, we're stuck.
- 34:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay, gotcha.
- 34:12SPEAKER_02: Thank you for that.
- 34:13SPEAKER_01: I did think that that was creative though, that they had to figure out how to get it up to speed, and he just like used insanely volatile wood to like make it go faster and faster until like the the actual like engine c blew on the on the train.
- 34:33SPEAKER_00: I was gonna I was confused about the wool.
- 34:35SPEAKER_00: Um not necessarily so he threw it in all together.
- 34:40SPEAKER_00: How did he get it to to burn at different like temperatures?
- 34:44SPEAKER_00: That was that's what it like really I I mean he's a scientist, I get I get that part, yeah.
- 34:49SPEAKER_00: But like it's wool, right?
- 34:53SPEAKER_00: You throw them all in the in the furnace, they should all start burning at the same time.
- 34:56SPEAKER_00: They shouldn't have like timed combustions um where we're we're at a certain temperature, then they but you know what I thought the visual was cool of the green smoke and then the yellow smoke and then the red smoke.
- 35:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 35:11SPEAKER_00: I I liked Clara, um, Clayton Clara.
- 35:15SPEAKER_00: I like the idea that you know it was just a little things.
- 35:20SPEAKER_00: Um like the the fact that they saved her um changed the name of the ravine, you know, it's no longer Clayton Ravine, uh named after the the school teacher who died it who fell off a hundred years ago, which is such a crazy story.
- 35:38SPEAKER_00: But yeah, so I don't know.
- 35:41SPEAKER_00: I I found myself really uh enjoying the movie, and I don't know if that's me being less critical than usual.
- 35:50SPEAKER_02: Um what I will say what I will say you guys can't see this, but Anthony's like, yep.
- 35:56SPEAKER_00: Yep, yep.
- 35:56SPEAKER_00: You're being less critical than usual.
- 35:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 35:59SPEAKER_01: I think I I think being a father has given you a certain certain patience and and I guess being able to view things differently.
- 36:08SPEAKER_00: Man, I gotta read I gotta rewatch Grogu, uh Mandalorian and Grogu.
- 36:12SPEAKER_02: Dude, going into this, I thought that I was walking into an episode where both of you were gonna be like, I did not like this, right?
- 36:20SPEAKER_02: That's what I that's what I kind of felt going in.
- 36:23SPEAKER_02: So when Dak, when you you started like you know, singing the praises, I was like, whoa, reversal! I did not see this uh coming.
- 36:33SPEAKER_02: I'm you know, I feel like this is my type of silly movie, uh, where I you know I just kind of like embrace the the weird and the the silliness.
- 36:43SPEAKER_02: But um Yeah, no, I'm I'm I'm happy to hear you guys also generally enjoyed it.
- 36:48SPEAKER_02: I mean, I know Anthony it's not your favorite one, uh, but I you know I think we can all kind of admit here that it's uh I think it I think it has a bad rap.
- 36:55SPEAKER_00: I think it has a bad rap.
- 36:57SPEAKER_00: Um what I will say is that it has the it has the Return of the Jedi thing going for it where these characters have played these characters for so long that they start becoming caricatures of themselves in a way.
- 37:10SPEAKER_00: You know, the th 3PO is Goldenrod at this point.
- 37:15SPEAKER_00: Han Solo's the one who's making all the the quirky faces.
- 37:18SPEAKER_00: Uh you you have a lot more joviality when it comes to it, and this this comes through most with uh Bift Tannin's counterpart, Buford.
- 37:29SPEAKER_00: Um, he has gone so far away from like the the villain like I think Biff Tannen is a great villain, like the original Biff Tannen, um, I think is a a really just believable, scary dude.
- 37:44SPEAKER_00: And I didn't get that from the I also didn't get it from the second movie, you know, I the the future the future Biff.
- 37:51SPEAKER_00: But um I I did like the the older Biff from like the alternate timeline in the second movie.
- 37:59SPEAKER_00: That was a he was a scary dude in that one, it was a good performance.
- 38:02SPEAKER_00: And I'm not saying that this is not a good performance, but it's a lot more campy.
- 38:07SPEAKER_00: It's a lot more, you know, like I'm gonna be goofy for the kids, the kids are gonna love it, you know.
- 38:13SPEAKER_00: Um and that's fine, you know.
- 38:15SPEAKER_00: Uh it you you're gonna have you're gonna have your moments where C thripio falls off of the uh Jabba's barge and you know plummets face down and gets stuck in the the the sand with his this his legs kicking around.
- 38:28SPEAKER_00: You're gonna have those moments, especially in a series that has had the luxury of getting a third film.
- 38:34SPEAKER_00: And that that was probably my biggest criticism.
- 38:38SPEAKER_00: It's just that some of the characters feel a little bit watered down at this point, um, or their counterparts feel a little bit watered down.
- 38:45SPEAKER_01: I like that the vice principal from the first movie is the marshal.
- 38:52SPEAKER_00: You gotta show discipline.
- 38:54SPEAKER_00: Now let's party.
- 38:58SPEAKER_02: I do love how much like Hill Valley, right?
- 39:02SPEAKER_02: This unnamed Hill Valley area.
- 39:05SPEAKER_02: Uh not unnamed, but I mean like this little town has had that name for like hundreds of years, right?
- 39:13SPEAKER_02: And the people have all lived there for hundreds of years, right?
- 39:16SPEAKER_02: Like, like this is such a weird like snapshot in like American like culture where like you know, you're like, oh yeah, my grand you know, my guy we lived here a hundred years ago.
- 39:26SPEAKER_02: Like, think about like I think everyone on this show has grown up in one place and you know lives at least 20 miles outside that region, right?
- 39:36SPEAKER_02: But like these pe these these families have been living like if you think about the fact that in 2015 they're also still living there, right?
- 39:43SPEAKER_02: Like they've been living there for like 200 no, no, I can't do math, but like a hundred and twenty-five years.
- 39:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 39:51SPEAKER_02: And it's all of them, right?
- 39:53SPEAKER_02: Like the principal always has a role of authority, the tannin is always the bully, and the McFly is always kind of like the hothead uh upstart, you know.
- 40:02SPEAKER_00: Yes, I I do appreciate that.
- 40:05SPEAKER_00: Um I I also kind of like the the background of Marty's family.
- 40:09SPEAKER_00: Like, you know, like uh William is is is the first McFly to be born in America.
- 40:15SPEAKER_00: Um I I like I like the the the way that they visualized Hill Valley too.
- 40:22SPEAKER_00: Because it was old western, but it was starting to modernize, you know, so you still had the the dirt streets, but then you had the courthouse coming up, and you know, it was like full columns and everything.
- 40:33SPEAKER_00: Like that courthouse is like so so much bigger than you know, like most of this town.
- 40:40SPEAKER_00: Like, there's probably a good 50 people in Hill Valley.
- 40:44SPEAKER_00: You don't need a courthouse that big, sir.
- 40:47SPEAKER_00: But you know, stuff like you know the the clock being being set at uh at a certain date.
- 40:53SPEAKER_00: I thought that was really fun.
- 40:55SPEAKER_00: It all comes together, and I think that that is like the the beauty of this movie is that like all of the loose ends uh get rounded out.
- 41:04SPEAKER_01: I like how Hill Valley essentially is like terraformed from like a desert to like a not like the like present day Hill Valley is like you couldn't tell that it was in a desert at some point.
- 41:17SPEAKER_01: True.
- 41:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the terrain is wildly different.
- 41:21SPEAKER_01: Right, like like the like it looks like they're in like New Mexico in uh when they go to the past, but then like the current day is just I I I couldn't even tell you, maybe it was a California, right?
- 41:36SPEAKER_02: How how does a man invent time travel?
- 41:39SPEAKER_02: How does then send how does a man like Doc Brown invent time travel?
- 41:46SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 41:46SPEAKER_02: And then not know that pink cowboy gear would be garish and stand out.
- 41:54SPEAKER_02: Like he's such a brilliant man, right?
- 41:58SPEAKER_02: And I know it's a gag, whatever, but like he's such a brilliant man, and it's just like what and w why would you pick that outlandish gear?
- 42:06SPEAKER_01: Well, at least his future self knows that that was a bad idea, right?
- 42:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 42:12SPEAKER_00: So I think um there's there's a couple layers to that question.
- 42:16SPEAKER_00: You I don't think that super smart people, geniuses, are necessarily outfit savvy, you know.
- 42:26SPEAKER_00: I don't think that that is something that they ever really consider or visualize, unless that's that's you know what you are a genius in, or whatever.
- 42:36SPEAKER_00: So I I think that for him this was close enough, you know, like this was this is as good as you're gonna get from a a costume store in 1955.
- 42:47SPEAKER_00: You know?
- 42:48SPEAKER_01: Even geniuses have blind spots, right?
- 42:51SPEAKER_01: Like there's everybody has a blind spot in their life that like connects with other people, but like for some reason you just don't understand.
- 43:00SPEAKER_01: Um and for Doc Brown, it it's definitely a fashion sense.
- 43:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 43:09SPEAKER_00: Um where did they go?
- 43:12SPEAKER_00: After so at the end of the film, Marty is back in 1985, and he meets back up with Jennifer, and she's like finally awake after the events of uh, you know, being knocked out in 2015.
- 43:28SPEAKER_00: And she and Marty, you know, witness him uh Doc come into Hill Valley on a you know super advanced steam engineed locomotive uh alongside Clara and their their two sons, Jules and Vern.
- 43:49SPEAKER_00: But then they leave.
- 43:50SPEAKER_00: Uh so are you going back to the fast?
- 43:52SPEAKER_00: Are you going back to the future?
- 43:53SPEAKER_00: No, we've already been there.
- 43:54SPEAKER_00: Where are they going?
- 43:55SPEAKER_00: Where do they go from there?
- 43:56SPEAKER_00: Like, is there is there like a canon answer?
- 43:59SPEAKER_01: They're not going back.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: To the past or to the future, they're just going to the next city over.
- 44:04SPEAKER_02: I have a better question.
- 44:06SPEAKER_02: How did they activate the railroad crossing uh barriers coming down when there was no train anywhere on the track around it?
- 44:17SPEAKER_02: Wait.
- 44:18SPEAKER_02: So like right before they land, like that ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding, and the you know, the like guardrails come down to stop cars from crossing the track.
- 44:30SPEAKER_02: So like it's like a you know the safety measure, right?
- 44:32SPEAKER_02: And I I I don't know, I've watched it too many times probably, and I've been asking this question, you know, but it's like wait a minute, how did you guys activate the safety hat the safety things, you know?
- 44:42SPEAKER_00: Like that that one that is an interesting conundrum that you've created.
- 44:48SPEAKER_00: Also, like why did why was there no police, you know, like cleaning up the the wreckage of the DeLorean?
- 44:55SPEAKER_00: You know, obviously someone had to report, hey, we hit a car.
- 45:00SPEAKER_00: It exploded.
- 45:03SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 45:05SPEAKER_01: I like the it just kept going.
- 45:07SPEAKER_01: They just kept going too.
- 45:09SPEAKER_01: That's it, yeah.
- 45:11SPEAKER_03: Oh funny.
- 45:13SPEAKER_02: No, but I I I know the the pace of this movie is a little bit different, you know, and everything.
- 45:18SPEAKER_02: And uh but and it's definitely campier.
- 45:21SPEAKER_02: It definitely has that return that Jedi feel, as you mentioned before, Dakota.
- 45:26SPEAKER_02: But it it it feels like such a it's such a fun bow on this franchise.
- 45:32SPEAKER_02: You know, like also I'm terrible and I would have loved a fourth, you know, like whatever.
- 45:38SPEAKER_02: Give me a fifth, I don't care.
- 45:39SPEAKER_02: Like Fast and the Furious, this franchise is up.
- 45:41SPEAKER_02: Uh I could have watched those two guys go all over the place.
- 45:45SPEAKER_02: And I know that narratively it doesn't make a lot of sense.
- 45:48SPEAKER_02: And uh, you know, still we we never really find out.
- 45:51SPEAKER_02: Like, I love the letter, like, you know, like Marty, you've just been such a dear, dear friend to me, you know?
- 45:56SPEAKER_02: And I and I just um I love the idea that we still don't really understand why this young teenager and this old eccentric man became friends, other than the fact that like Marty wanted someone to build him a giant amplifier.
- 46:11SPEAKER_02: Uh but you know, like I I accept it all.
- 46:14SPEAKER_02: And uh I think that that's what this movie is kind of about.
- 46:19SPEAKER_02: It's just like one last chance to see your dudes together.
- 46:23SPEAKER_02: It it it didn't have to be that great because I think that all of them are so good at being their characters, the actors themselves, that it just became it just is like a fun romp.
- 46:36SPEAKER_02: Like it's not uh gonna win an Oscar or an I mean it didn't, right?
- 46:41SPEAKER_02: But I just think that it's we're missing these movies now.
- 46:46SPEAKER_02: We're missing a movie where you can just grab your kid and go, you know what, I'm gonna go have a good time.
- 46:50SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 46:51SPEAKER_02: They're all these blockbuster things, and a lot I feel like we don't have the time for whimsical films anymore that you can just you know, and I'm not talking about the animated stuff, I'm talking about live action fun films that you can go see with your kids and you can just watch as an adult and still just enjoy it.
- 47:11SPEAKER_02: And I think that this harkens back to a time of filmmaking when we had that, and I don't I don't think we have that anymore.
- 47:18SPEAKER_00: I I appreciate that.
- 47:20SPEAKER_00: I I I like I like that um you brought it back to that.
- 47:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 47:25SPEAKER_00: Because this we don't get stuff like this anymore, where it still feels big and um exciting but whimsical.
- 47:35SPEAKER_00: And I'm trying to think of the last film like it that we actually did have.
- 47:40SPEAKER_00: Like, can you guys think of anything like that recently?
- 47:44SPEAKER_01: It it's tough because everything has to be big budget, everything has to be it it's almost like everything has to be off of some sort of established IP, whether it's a book or a um something else or part of part of uh a franchise.
- 48:05SPEAKER_01: And yeah, it's it's tough, yeah.
- 48:08SPEAKER_01: Like I I and I think that it's just because of where we are with like films, you know, like films are expensive to make and so you have to make something that would almost guarantee that you you would at least you know break even or you make more, which that's not always the case, right?
- 48:29SPEAKER_01: But um I think that if we do get any fun films, it they're usually like sh streamer movies, but you don't get it's not like you know, back to the future though.
- 48:43SPEAKER_01: It's not it's different.
- 48:45SPEAKER_00: Here, here.
- 48:46SPEAKER_01: Oh, and you said that you wanted a Fast and the Furious treatment, so that you you wanted like um Back to Future, Fear uh Future 7, um Back Eight.
- 48:58SPEAKER_02: I do I Yeah, Back to the Future, Tokyo Drift.
- 49:01SPEAKER_02: Man, imagine imagine Tokyo Drift, but within the right.
- 49:10SPEAKER_01: Because you bring it up.
- 49:12SPEAKER_01: I am probably one of the very few people out there that actually liked Tokyo Drift.
- 49:16SPEAKER_01: And I know it has it's that you know the characters or whatever.
- 49:20SPEAKER_01: I just loved Japan as the background, and it just I thought the drifting was cool.
- 49:28SPEAKER_02: Dude, the most confusing thing that I've ever had to understand in my life is that my wife, who doesn't like stuff like that normally, loves that franchise and loves Tokyo Drift.
- 49:44SPEAKER_02: Like, like, it's I gotta tell her this.
- 49:47SPEAKER_02: Like, she's gonna be so excited because she like absolutely loves that franchise and Tokyo Drift.
- 49:52SPEAKER_02: And and like that's one of her favorite ones.
- 49:53SPEAKER_00: When are we when are we covering the Fast and Furious franchise?
- 49:56SPEAKER_01: No, God that that's Rich's favorite.
- 50:00SPEAKER_01: Um something that uh don't do that too.
- 50:02SPEAKER_01: Something that I was gonna say though is that um why don't why don't we stay why don't we stay in the 80s for our next movie?
- 50:11SPEAKER_01: I have an idea.
- 50:13SPEAKER_01: Anthony's got an idea.
- 50:15SPEAKER_01: Rich, you're probably gonna jump up in the air and click your heels when you hear this.
- 50:19SPEAKER_00: Oh, I gotta I actually gotta see this.
- 50:21SPEAKER_01: Ghostbusters.
- 50:27SPEAKER_01: I'm waiting for the Dakota was the one that that clicked his heels.
- 50:31SPEAKER_01: I'm waiting for Rich to do it.
- 50:35SPEAKER_02: Okay, alright.
- 50:35SPEAKER_02: It's uh I because I I love them both, right?
- 50:38SPEAKER_02: I love Ghostbusters 1 and 2.
- 50:40SPEAKER_02: Uh 2 is the one with the slime, right?
- 50:44SPEAKER_02: With the pink goo.
- 50:46SPEAKER_01: Slime.
- 50:47SPEAKER_02: I don't remember.
- 50:48SPEAKER_02: It's but it's with the Statue of Liberty.
- 50:50SPEAKER_01: It's been a while.
- 50:51SPEAKER_02: Because one of them, one of them has like the the pink, there's this pink slime.
- 50:56SPEAKER_02: I think it's the second one, and uh that fills the city, and then like they they have the the Statue of Liberty is filled with it, and to get it to walk, they play um Your Love Takes Me Higher.
- 51:08SPEAKER_02: And I mean I I listen to that song in my car and like at full blast, and I just think about like the Statue of Liberty like grooving to it.
- 51:16SPEAKER_02: Walk I am so excited about Ghostbusters.
- 51:21SPEAKER_02: I know I did the same thing last week when you guys announced Black Back to the Future Part 3, but like viewers, I'm not doing this as a show.
- 51:28SPEAKER_02: Like, I am legit excited to watch these movies that you know I I think shaped my uh my childhood.
- 51:36SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 51:37SPEAKER_00: Alright.
- 51:37SPEAKER_02: The only the only the only like castle thing that my family ever bought me.
- 51:43SPEAKER_02: You know, like every franchise of toys when I like in the 80s, like late 80s, early 90s, had like their home base or something.
- 51:51SPEAKER_02: And my family always thought that all of them were too expensive.
- 51:54SPEAKER_02: But for some reason, they bought me the Ghostbusters like at Firehouse, and man, that thing like that thing tripled, quadrupled, cantupled as all my home bases.
- 52:06SPEAKER_02: Like the X-Men also lived there.
- 52:08SPEAKER_02: It wasn't just the Ghostbusters, like there was the X-Men and it was Batman's Batcave because I couldn't afford the Bat Cave.
- 52:14SPEAKER_02: Like I am about talking about Ghostbusters.
- 52:18SPEAKER_01: Let's table that for for next week so that we can uh sorry, let's you made my heart sing, Anthony.
- 52:27SPEAKER_00: Alright.
- 52:27SPEAKER_00: Final final thoughts on Back to the Future Part three.
- 52:31SPEAKER_00: We'll start with Anthony.
- 52:32SPEAKER_01: Back to the Future Part three.
- 52:34SPEAKER_01: Um I think that Dakota kind of nailed it on the head.
- 52:37SPEAKER_01: I don't think that I I really put it into perspective, but it does have that um Return of the Jedi vibe, which like Return of the Jedi is not my favorite of the original trilogies, and it was like hard to put my finger on it because it's like it's not a bad movie, but it's just not my favorite.
- 52:58SPEAKER_01: And yeah, like that's that's what's happening here with Back to the Future Part 3.
- 53:04SPEAKER_01: You know, like you said, that the characters are a bit more like caricatures rather than like themselves, like they're there's like kind of over the top a little bit, um, rather than like how it was before.
- 53:16SPEAKER_01: But there is a lot of good fun to to be had in this movie, and it's like it's not the worst movie that that we've ever seen.
- 53:24SPEAKER_01: And I and I don't think it's as bad as people make it out to be, but I understand the gripes.
- 53:31SPEAKER_00: Rich, final thoughts on the third one?
- 53:35SPEAKER_02: It's my last time to see my dudes together.
- 53:37SPEAKER_02: Uh as I've I think spoken about in the past, Back to Future is one of the movies I've seen the most in my entire life.
- 53:43SPEAKER_02: I loved the franchise and I just like seeing them again, and even if they're a little goofier and a little more ridiculous, uh and maybe it's very American and saccharine for me to say, but you know, like I like the happy ending, I like uh sorry.
- 54:01SPEAKER_02: Uh I like the I I like the joy of the movie, you know.
- 54:06SPEAKER_02: It it it's f it's something that, like I said earlier, I miss in in cinema, right?
- 54:12SPEAKER_02: Is it's just going to have a good time.
- 54:14SPEAKER_02: Uh it doesn't have to be heavy, uh, it just has to be something you enjoy and puts a smile on your face.
- 54:22SPEAKER_02: And honestly, I go to the movies and I and I watch TV shows not to experience what people experience in real life and you know, and that trauma of what really occurs in our world.
- 54:36SPEAKER_02: I do it to go into something magical, a place where things work out, and I know I s dude, I I guys, I was biting my nails, like waiting, like seeing them.
- 54:49SPEAKER_02: Oh no, they're gonna I knew he was gonna get there, but like this movie still makes me bite my na my fingernails, going like I hope they get there.
- 54:57SPEAKER_02: And that's a testament to I think uh the storytelling, the franchise, and the actors.
- 55:02SPEAKER_02: If you haven't seen this movie, go treat yourself, and I will personally pay you a dollar if you don't have a good time.
- 55:12SPEAKER_00: Wow, one dollar.
- 55:13SPEAKER_00: That the only issue, Rich, is that we have 40,000 listeners.
- 55:20SPEAKER_02: Uh I would be up, like I'm gonna make season tickets for the Mets, you know, but uh I I I implore you to go go watch this if you have sit with your family.
- 55:36SPEAKER_02: It's a fun time.
- 55:38SPEAKER_02: It really is.
- 55:39SPEAKER_02: What did you think, Dak?
- 55:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I'm gonna actually I think I'm gonna surprise a couple people here.
- 55:45SPEAKER_00: I don't think it's the best of these movies, but I don't think it's the worst.
- 55:49SPEAKER_00: I actually think that I would say that this one is better than number two, than part two.
- 55:54SPEAKER_00: I I at least in in terms of my enjoyment, which is an unpopular opinion, I know.
- 56:00SPEAKER_00: But I enjoy I felt this was a lot more heartwarming.
- 56:06SPEAKER_00: Um it rounded out the story in a way that I felt satisfied by the end.
- 56:13SPEAKER_00: And it didn't get super weird.
- 56:16SPEAKER_00: I I feel like watching the second movie from the future standpoint makes the second one a little weird, you know?
- 56:25SPEAKER_00: It's just an uncanny uh futuristic uh look of the you know of our future or our past at this point.
- 56:34SPEAKER_00: And I didn't really gravitate towards it.
- 56:38SPEAKER_00: I thought it was clever, but I didn't really gravitate towards it.
- 56:40SPEAKER_00: But you know, there's something um timeless about the the old west that I I find um visually appealing, and uh the story gave me everything I wanted in that respect.
- 56:54SPEAKER_00: So I'm yeah, I it's not as good as the first movie, but I think it's a little bit better than the second movie, at least in terms of my enjoyment.
- 57:01SPEAKER_00: So thank you guys for listening to us here for episode 177.
- 57:05SPEAKER_00: Next week we are covering why can't I remember oh Ghostbusters?
- 57:10SPEAKER_00: We're I just I just clicked my heels uh off camera.
- 57:13SPEAKER_00: You know, I I jumped in the air when Anthony mentioned Ghostbusters, and I completely I was about to I was about to say we're we're covering Fast and Furious or something.
- 57:22SPEAKER_00: Um no, we're we're covering Ghostbusters.
- 57:25SPEAKER_00: Um and yeah, we're we're we're you're gonna call us.
- 57:29SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm I'm answering the question.
- 57:31SPEAKER_00: Who are you gonna call?
- 57:32SPEAKER_00: You're gonna you're gonna call us.
- 57:33SPEAKER_00: You're gonna call the whoever is your podcast dealer, and they're gonna tune you in.
- 57:40SPEAKER_00: Um Rich is dying laughing in in the background.
- 57:44SPEAKER_00: Uh we gotta we gotta end this here.
- 57:46SPEAKER_00: Thank you guys so much for listening.
- 57:47SPEAKER_00: Um, we hope you give us a five star juicy review.
- 57:51SPEAKER_00: Uh hopefully not manure filled, juicy, but you know, somewhat juicy, like an IPA or whatever that Anthony hates.
- 57:58SPEAKER_00: Uh and yeah, guys, have a good time.
- 58:01SPEAKER_01: Out of time.
- 58:03SPEAKER_01: The Wolverine.
