shitting on the episodes, and that's not what I'm intending to say here.

But these were really hard episodes to get through for me. And I think

the reason why is that once you've taken Lufy out of the equation, which

is what he does wind up surprising. I did not mean that, you

guys, at all, but he does actually wind up catatonic and carried away

by Jimbay. I presented that as like a joke answer when I did the

want to be with Florian and he asked me, like, what do you

think Luviy's gonna do? But I didn't. I didn't really expect it to

happen. And actually I maybe should have because he had already gotten a second

dose of the hormones from Iva and like It's or Eva. I can never

remember exactly which way I'm supposed to say that, but I really should have

seen that he was like on the edge already and very fragile, and that

something like this would just hit harder. But I I didn't think that was

how it was going to go. But the thing that normally happens in this

show, when Lufy is taken out of the running because he is injured or

stuck or whatever we have to do, there are all of our other friends

to take over while he is incapacitated, and so it opens things up and

gives us time to watch each of them deal with whatever henchmen, they're gonna

be fighting this time, you know whatever. And in fact, sometimes it's

like, of course, we can't have Loofy in the running because the story

would be over too quick, because he's just you know, but here these

three episodes, Lufy is out and none of our other straw hat friends are

here, and so everything that's happening is happening in and amongst characters that,

for the most part, we only met during this arc. They are There's

a couple of exceptions, you know, but mostly it's people that have been

relative strangers, and I've gotten to know them enough that I find them fun,

but I don't know them enough to care when it's just them on the

screen with each other. It's just it's just not enough, especially following up

a major, major death like Aces. It like it just felt like we

went from this incredibly high drama moment that I was super invested in and very

surprised by, like really took me off guard, and then we went into

a it feels almost like a filler episode, even though I know it shouldn't.

Like I really want to make it clear, I am aware this ties

in with everything I'm not saying it doesn't. Obviously Whitebeard's death and the way

that he says that the one piece is real and it's out there and all

of this like this is directly related, but because none of the people that

I like most are involved here. The one exception for this is like Buggy

and Mister three, and Mister three I don't even think shows up in these

episodes. If I'm not mistaken, I can't remember, but uh, it's

just not it. It was difficult for me to focus because I really wanted

to be with Loofy during this time. I really wanted there to be like,

not necessarily even him waging vengeance on everybody around him, because that felt

like not out of character exactly, but it just felt like a little easy,

I guess. But I just wanted there to be like a moment where

he got to maybe have like a whole episode of sort of flashbacks. We

get a few. We get a couple of flashbacks of him and Ace joking

around with like this instance where he thought Ace was dead and Ace is like

making fun of him for thinking that and for crying, and then is like,

of course, I'm never going to die as long as I have a

stupid brother, to protect and it's really sweet and makes sense, like with

Lufy saying, remember you said you would stay, And I can't help but

think in some ways like maybe this is the natural progression, Lufy, because

you don't need him anymore. Maybe it's you're strong enough now, and that's

sort of like part of the message. Although I say that and the way

that Ace died was protecting him, so but yeah, I just I felt

really unsatisfied by having Lufy sort of swept up and carried off and very little

participation from him in this episode, these three episodes, and then jumping into

the conflict with everybody else. I honestly would have rather gone back and checked

him with the other straw hats. And I know that that's crazy because Ace's

death affects things here a lot, but it was just it was just not

what was on my wish list. It's really that simple. It's not like

they're bad episodes or what happens is it important. It's just that I wanted

something in particular and I didn't get it. And I know that that is

kind of like a childish response, but sometimes we'd be childish like that though,

you know, especially when it comes to character death and the way that

they're handled. That's sensitive, and that's like something really high stakes that you're

gonna have a stronger than usual reaction to and stronger than usual desire or expectation

about how that's handled, so especially considering like this is like the only character

death that sticks in this show, at least so far. So yeah,

I just really wasn't. I had a hard time staying focused, and I

had to go back and rewatch big sections because I felt myself sort of losing

interest and spacing out. And I even wound up like going to one of

the summaries because I was like, wait what and it felt like I rewatched

it and comprehended, but it wasn't actually making sense to me in a couple

places it. I just really wasn't connecting with these and like I said,

this may be a me problem. I have no idea if anybody else feels

this way as well or not, and I don't think there's anybody even in

just sort of like in some ways just recapping in a much more hands off

way than usual. I'm not certain this is going to go that way,

on it, because I was so blindsided by the gravity of what happened in

it was sort of like shock to realize that probably any like fallout from this

that's personal on Lufy's part, we're going to have to deal with a while

later from now. So okay, let's let's get this rolling. The Navy's

headquartered. The Navy Headquarters falls Whitebeard's Unspeakable wrath, and as is you know

said in the title this is, it starts off with a recap of Ace's

death. Loofy is sitting there and he's like screaming, but there's no sound

really, his eyes have whited out, and it's just kind of him going
10:35
into shock, and we have the flashback between him and Ace. But it's

like the the way that this jumps around, it sort of between Loofy's flashbacks

and Garbs flashbacks as well, because we have his flashback to him and Ace,

and then we see Ace's face where he's like smiling in death, and

then we go to Garp and him remembering gold Rogers saying please look after my

child. And the the thing that I am really curious about with Garp is

like exactly how this all is going to go down for him. Floria and

I sort of talked about this a little bit, and he is he tries

for a moment to sort of step in and help Ace, and I think

that it's it's Akayenu is the one who took Ace down, right, But

then uh, the name of the guy who Sengoku is the one who's holding

him down, Sku. He says like, yeah, you better hold me

down or I'm gonna fucking kill Akayenu. And it's just interesting to me.

And I'm not saying that this isn't a real thing or that it makes no

sense in terms of like the writing, because this is human nature. I'm

not, you know, criticizing. It's just more funny to me that like

Garp was prepared to stand there and let Ace be executed. I'm assuming like

it really seemed like as much as he hated and watching this and was going

to regret it or just felt guilt over it. He was gonna let it

happen. He was allowing this to take place. But then when it's like

actually on the battlefield and somebody is coming at Ace, now Garp is starting

to be like, how dare you? And I'm like, this is sort

of the like, of course they're gonna try and kill him. Now,

the whole point of this gathering was to kill him in the first place.

He's trying to escape and yeah, they're they're gonna attempt to take him out,

what do you mean? And so it's sort of funny to me how

it's like, well, yes, in the confines of the execution scaffolding,

that was fine, but now that we have moved and we're on the battlefield,

this is a totally different situation. Like it's not but also it is

sort of human nature to be okay with things like this in one context and

not in another. So anyway, we come back and all of the pirates

are gathered around Ace like just kind of it's sinking in for absolutely everybody that

Ace is actually dead, and a lot of folks are like almost not willing

to believe it, and Jinbay in particular, it just seems like I feel

like Jim Bay liked Ace, but I also feel like he was had Lufy's
13:54
back so much here that this feeling of like, after all that and me

helping this kid and it didn't work out, like just the futality, futility

sorry of it. So yeah, we have a long pan across faces of

people who are crying, and then we see Whitebeard's face and he is not.

I sort of expected there to be more of an outburst immediately from him,

but it seems more like he is so overwhelmed that he is frozen in

place, which I really do understand. I feel like this is the way

that I would likely be. So everybody on Sabaoti, by the way,

is watching this, like the cameras are working again and they're seeing that Firefist

is dead and Loofy is starting to kind of like weirdly twitch in place,

and the way that the film is done, it looks almost like there's rain

or something. It's a weird effect. And then the camera, in a

manner of speaking, sort of shakes and Loofy it's almost like the effect is

that his face goes from like an actual face to a skull and that he

is dead for a moment but like not really, you know what I'm saying.

It was an odd effect, and it was made odder by the fact

that as he is experiencing this weird sort of shift, Eva is yelling Strawboy

no, and I was sort of like, what exactly, what does that

mean? What is Eva even reacting to? But maybe it's just the fact

that he is like completely frozen. So this is when Akainu decides that he

is going to sail in for one last hit and go after Loofy, and

Jimbay steps in and protects him. Oh no, sorry, Jimba is like

running toward him. It's Marco that manages to get in the way, because

Marco has just been like struggling to get out of these cuffs for a minute

and he has eventually managed to do it. So while Marco is holding back

a Kainu, he gives Jimbay time to step in and scoop up Lufy's body,

and he's like telling Jimbay if he can't run, just carry him,
16:41
like you've got to get out of here, because if we lost Ace today,

we have at least got to make sure Lufy makes it out, Like

we can't go both of them cannot go down, and he yells to all

of the other guys in the crowd, we have to step up. You

know, that's what Ace would want, and your pride is on the line

here, so we have got to do everything we can to protect him.

At least they've got this, because like it's a real This whole scene here

is a series of like these dudes getting hype and then everything falling apart,

and then them having to get hype in another way, and then that falling

apart as well, And I just started to be like, man, they

really you've got to have multiple rallying points if you're gonna do a battle like

this, because inevitably some things are going to fall through, And how do

you keep everybody like focused in that sense if one of the primary things they're

all zeroed in on just is taken out of the equation entirely. So at

this point, Akayiknu he has started to run after Jimbay and he's saying,

like, when I schedule an execution or something like that, I make damn

sure I finish the job. And when he says that, I was sort

of like, I mean, you did finish that, Like Ace is dead?

Are you just bragging on that because he's chasing Jimbay and Loofy when he

says it, and I was sort of like, I get what you're saying,

but Lufy's was not part of the execution initially, Like that's just that

that doesn't work here. But maybe he's just bragging on himself, like,

yeah, I did that shit, I make sure I finish the job.

Like I think, maybe that's all it is. It's just in the context

of him like sprinting after them looking to kill Loofy, I was sort of

like, wait a second, does this mean that he thinks like Lufy was.

I mean, I understand that Lufy is Dragon's son, so it may

just be that, like, well, we'll just fold him in, you

know. But he wasn't part of the scheduled thing, That's all I'm saying.

So he's running after them. All of a sudden, there is the

impact of the base of a staff in the ground, and you see the

shadow of white Beard just towering over him from behind, and it is pretty

intimidating, Like a kay Knew is large, but white Beard is so much

bigger. And he turns around and white Beard just goes for him with one

of those fucking force punches that it is so deep and intense that he winds
19:37
up like splitting a gap in the ground of this like headquarters. Basically when

a Kaynu goes down and he like he gets up, and I was really
19:56
surprised. I thought that was gonna be it like one punch and he's down

and that's a rap. But he actually gets up again. So I was

like, oh, okay, he's either white Beard isn't as strong as I
20:11
was thinking, or the resilience of this dude is much higher than I was
20:18
expecting. But so he the two of them like do wind up actually duking
20:26
it out here for a while. But it seemed pretty clear to me.

I wasn't thinking that white Beard was going to die. I'm not going to
20:33
pretend that that was something that I saw coming, but I was thinking that
20:40
this is a battle white Beard would be willing to die to win. There

are points where it feels like it's all on the table now, and this
20:51
is one of them where it's just you feel that he is completely unleashing in
20:56
a way that we haven't really seen in the other episode, even when he

was doing some pretty bonkers overpowered shit. This was the one where I was

like, oh, okay, now he's really going for it, and uh,

a Kayu. He winds up landing another hit on white Beard in his
21:18
like stomach, I say another, I'm adding that to like Ace's hit,

but uh, it's below the one that Squard gave him. I will never

get over that name. And it's like full of magma and this is not
21:38
an ordinary hit. And then he backs up and he has the nerve to
21:45
say to white Beard, time for you to step down. And all of
21:51
a sudden I realized that, like, I really see a Kayu as like
21:56
he's competent, he's a good fighter, and he knows what he's doing,

but there is a feel to him of like, so we have the let's
22:12
say I'm trying to find his name. What is the name? I'm looking

through the chart, Guys, sorry, but there's a lot of scrolling sometimes.

So I'm trying to find the dude who looks like and who's modeled after

an action hero because I forget his name a lot, but he is like

the act he's actually modeled after an action hero, right, but Akayu has

action kiser root that's his name. Akayu feels like the star of an action

movie in a bad way, like the star in a series, Like I'm

gonna get some shit for that, And I apologize already, I really do.

But we're talking sort of like recent Vin Diesel. There was a time

where Vin Diesel as the tough, badass guy worked really well. Now it's

a joke. It feels like not even just that he's passed his prime,

the story has passed its prime, and you're kind of like so typecast now

that what else are we even? Like? Come on? And there's something

about Aka Yinu that, despite him actually pulling all of this off and really

kind of being quite clutch by now, I feel like I want him to

be in like some more stare deotypical action star clothing. With his like little

one liners, he's just a little too glib. And I don't know why,

I'll admit, like a Kayinu versus Kizaru. Kizaru has one liners and

Kisaru's like pulling it off for me, I don't know why. Is it

because his character design is more interesting? Is it because of the toothpick,

because the toothpick can really do some things? Is it because he has like

a more interesting voice, because the voice actor who's doing Kizaru's voice is having

a great time and he is very distinctive, but a Kayinu less so.

And so I think that's kind of where where I'm coming down is that like

a Kayinu is able to complete the task, but like with very little style,

with very little personal flare. His ability is really showy a lot of

the time. But like, let's stop and think about it. Even when

he's like punching Ace or punching through white Beard, it's just like, here's

a fist made of lava. I mean, you know, like, doesn't

that feel really boring and weak? It's just and I'm not trying to like

mock Oda for this. I almost feel like maybe that's part of the point,

is that you've got other people on the field who have much bigger,
25:41
showier powers, but the guy that you sort of weren't taking too seriously is
25:45
the one who sneaks up and does the job. Maybe that's part of what
25:48
he was attempting to do, but uh, it just like the number of
25:55
sort of quipping lines that he has in these episodes, I really was sort
25:59
of like, dude, I fucking feel like you rehearse those in the mirror.

There's something almost Jake Peralta like about it. So anyway, okay,

the hit that he lands, of course, it's got everybody sort of like,

oh shit, because now white Beard is like on fire. Literally he

is standing and on fire, and he is having his own series of flashbacks

to Ace, and there's this moment that he's like almost seems to hear Ace

saying hey, Pops, and he opens his eye and you can see the
26:41
flames in front of him, and so it's clearly in the present, but
26:48
he's looking at Marco and it seems like he's seeing Ace, and Ace is
26:56
saying like, hey, what's wrong. And then all of a sudden,

Ace disappears, and it's Marco saying, don't give up, Pops, we

can't lose you. Stand up, and I couldn't. I feel like it's

just supposed to be sort of his imagination. There was a moment where I

was like, is that a ghost? Are we doing that? I wouldn't

be mad at it, but it really does feel like Ace was who he

saw, not Marco, for just a moment. So he finally like a
27:27
Kayinu is just standing there. I think sort of enjoying his handiwork. I

believe he thinks this deed, this deed is done. But he wrong because

here comes white Beard's hand through the flames and picks this man up and he
27:44
has him held in like mid air because he is so much bigger than him,
27:48
and he makes eye contact with a Kayinu and you see a Kayinu just
27:52
be like, oh fuck, Like there's just a all right, I'm out

of it now. And it's funny because you know, a kay knew could

use his power here. He isn't being restrained in any significant way. He's
28:04
being held up by the front of his shirt. He could do something,
28:08
but he doesn't defend himself and he just gets tossed in the air. And

then white Beard, while he's thinking of Ace and how everything happened, he
28:21
casts that sort of force bubble. I guess, I'm not even sure,

and you just see the whole screen crack and then a kay Knu himself turns
28:36
bright red and I was just like, oh, okay, and that's that
28:40
on him. And this is the one I had said earlier that when he
28:44
punches him so hard that it causes the fissure. This is the hit that
28:47
causes the fissure. Like the two of them have been exchanging slaps until this
28:55
point when white Beard is like, you know what, I'm going to really
28:57
go for it, And it feels like seeing Ace in his mind's eye was
29:04
what gave him the strength to finish the job. And when I say finish
29:10
the job, I mean finish because the whole headquarters just splits in half.

It's not just like the courtyard the building that the whole thing spreads all the
29:25
way up across the castle. And I don't know if it's like how again,

because it's unclear for me how much of this is like island and how
29:36
much of this is man made. I don't know what this means for this
29:41
location, if it's just going to disappear into the sea eventually. But uh

A Kayunu sort of falls backward, and you do. I thought when his
29:53
when he turns red, that that was it, that he was dead.

But he opens his eyes one last time before he falls into the rift that's

been created, and there was a big part of me that sort of felt
30:08
like, maybe he's not dead. Like if you if somebody just falls and
30:14
you don't actually see their dead body, it tends to usually be that they
30:21
survived somehow, Like you know, it just does. And I don't really
30:26
want that. I feel like it's such as Kazaka killed Ace. It's just
30:30
again, I find him kind of a dull character, all things considered.

So a lot of people, a lot of people get sucked down into this

crater, like some of Whitebeard's own guys, a lot of Marines. But

like it's not like his own people had levitation boots or something. And basically
30:52
what he has managed to do here is not only take out Akainu, but

he has managed to separate his own men on the other side of the Marines

so that he himself will be the last one to go up against them.

He is attempting to save them. He is like putting them in a position
31:19
where they have to retreat because there's very little that they can do here anymore.

And I really kind of love that that Ace dying. He's like,

all right, well, what we came here for, we aren't going to

be able to accomplish at this point, So I'm going to cut my losses

and attempt to save the people that are still here that I care about.

Because he evidently takes his family, very very seriously. So like we have

the marines just being like, wait, what's happening? And he he lifts

his staff, spins it in the air, and then slams it into the
32:06
ground and says, I am your enemy and I alone. So if you

have the resolve to face me, come, And all of these marines start
32:16
flying through the air the way that they do, coming at him, and

I love Marco. He has of like, eventually there are tears, but

for a moment he just looks deadpan, and I was laughing so hard,

you guys, it was an inappropriate moment to laugh. But and when he
32:34
has the tears, I was sort of like, oh, okay, but
32:37
you don't see those right away, And so it just kind of looked like
32:39
he was doing that like Emoji, where the eyes and the mouth are all
32:44
just straight lines. So everybody is forced into retreat, and it's tough.

A lot of these pirates do not want to do this, but they've got

to go. And Marco is realizing it's my response ability to ensure that there

is somebody out here looking after these guys right up until the end. So

I'm gonna take care of it. Pops, don't you worry about it.

And then as we're seeing this fight, there is like a bunch of cuts

to some other area that seems to be indoors, and you see these shoes

walking and it's kind of, I think, the only hint that you really

get that there's like another player coming in. But I definitely had a moment

of like, wait, who is that? I believe those are meant to

be teaching shoes. Correct me if I'm wrong. I don't remember what his

shoes look like, but yeah, it's the This is when you see everybody

up on the scaffold and there's also some guy that like this is so funny.

The somebody says, hey, look what the hell is that? And

there's this creature and it leans out and says, oops, they phoned me.

And I don't know what that is. If he's supposed to be like

another sort of oars, he doesn't look the same, but he's quite large,

and I'm just you know, what in the hell is that? So

this is when everybody realizes that like impelled down has been breached for real.

These folks were all supposed to be locked up, that are that are backing

him up, and that they were such bad criminals the people who are with

him, but they were so terrible that nobody just wanted to execute them because

they felt like that was too easy. The Great Battleship San Juan Wolf.

That's the name of this creature. Hmm, wow, they even know my

name. Well, I'll be he's kind of like a Southern accent. It's

weird. Let's see the corrupt king a Vollo Pisaro. He's the one with

like the horns and the huge mustache. But he says meow, which is

weird because that's not a cat thing. He does have cat vertical slitted eyes.

Though, then we have heavy drinker what is it velasco. This guy's

voice is remarkable, I am. I really wish that those who had more

hilarious voices were a bit more involved in the story so that I got to

hear them more often. But hold on, I'm just trying to I'm gone,

I hadn't kill them all, Okay, Like that's what his voice sounds

like. It's almost giving sous from gravity falls. If any of you have

seen that, that's really really similar. And then Crescent Moon Hunter Cat Devin,

who looks pretty dope. I really really enjoy her, I would like

for her to be like more of a thing as well. And then the

old jail manager from impal down sure you of the rain who that guy is

just a straight up like Nazi, you know, and I don't. I

didn't expect for him to really keep backing Blackbeard up. I thought he'd get

out and then kind of either turn on them or go do his own thing.

But the fact that he has thrown in I'm like, really, because

what I think I had expected was that he was a sadist who used like

lawfulness as a sort of veneer over the shitty things he did. But the

fact that he is out here like fully on the side of the outright pirate

escape eaes, I just didn't think he would publicly want to take that position.

So all right, I'm realizing that I only have twenty minutes left.

I've only gotten fully through one episode. But like, I'm trying to describe
