- 0:02Speaker 1: This is a Bramble Jam podcast.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a Homemark review podcast. I'm
- 0:25Speaker 2: Megan and I'm a longtime Hallmark fan. As a quick reminder,
- 0:29Speaker 2: we're doing things a little bit differently for our reviews
- 0:32Speaker 2: of The Chicken Sisters, I'm joined by a rotating cast
- 0:35Speaker 2: of co hosts and joining us today for season two,
- 0:40Speaker 2: episode four, Let your Hair Down, y'all, is Aaron Shay.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Aaron's a familiar face in the bramble Jam family. We
- 0:48Speaker 2: had the pleasure of getting to meet her in Greenville
- 0:51Speaker 2: this summer. Aaron, thanks for being here.
- 0:55Speaker 1: I'm so excited to be here and to talk about
- 0:57Speaker 1: the Chicken Sisters. Big fan.
- 0:59Speaker 2: So tell me your history with the Chicken Sisters, because
- 1:02Speaker 2: our co hosts are all coming at it from a
- 1:04Speaker 2: different place. So did you watch season one? Have you
- 1:07Speaker 2: watched all of season two? What are your thoughts so far.
- 1:12Speaker 1: With any like film or tiny project. If I find
- 1:15Speaker 1: out that there is a book version, I try to
- 1:17Speaker 1: read the book first. And so when season one came
- 1:21Speaker 1: out and everyone kept saying, oh, it's a book. I
- 1:23Speaker 1: really like the book, I said, great, I'm gonna go
- 1:26Speaker 1: get this book. And then I was still reading it.
- 1:29Speaker 1: When the first couple episodes aired for season one, and
- 1:32Speaker 1: I noticed there were a lot of differences, and I
- 1:35Speaker 1: was so wrapped up in the book world where I
- 1:37Speaker 1: was just like, I don't think I'm gonna watch this,
- 1:39Speaker 1: like you know, I need to. I need to like
- 1:41Speaker 1: live in the book world for a while. And then
- 1:44Speaker 1: when you asked me if I wanted to be on
- 1:45Speaker 1: this season, I said, well, now is the time to
- 1:48Speaker 1: watch all of season one?
- 1:49Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
- 1:51Speaker 1: And so I like binged all of season one, that
- 1:54Speaker 1: loved it. And then I've been watching season two every week.
- 1:58Speaker 2: So I read the book too. I read the Boo
- 2:00Speaker 2: before season one came out, and our entire first season
- 2:03Speaker 2: of reviews is like, well in the book, Well in
- 2:05Speaker 2: the book, because there's so many differences, and it's that
- 2:09Speaker 2: I'm a book first person too, and I like to
- 2:13Speaker 2: have that, but I get so frustrated when my brain's
- 2:16Speaker 2: like trying to reconcile the book with the movie or
- 2:20Speaker 2: the show. So were there big changes that you liked
- 2:24Speaker 2: or didn't like? How'd you feel about book versus series?
- 2:30Speaker 2: I'm great removed.
- 2:32Speaker 1: It's far enough removed where I can see that they
- 2:34Speaker 1: are separate entities because listening to Deck to Hallmark and
- 2:38Speaker 1: they I was that person when they were recording those
- 2:41Speaker 1: episodes in the back of the studio, being like who
- 2:44Speaker 1: this question doesn't exist in that book, Gus, Yeah, And
- 2:47Speaker 1: then they can't talk you about like Frank Junior and
- 2:49Speaker 1: I was like, isn't he did? Know? What do you mean?
- 2:53Speaker 1: And like May has two kids, Amanda has two kids,
- 2:59Speaker 1: Like there's all these nuances and I was like, we're
- 3:01Speaker 1: just leaving. I don't even know. So I love that
- 3:06Speaker 1: they've changed enough of the book for the show because
- 3:11Speaker 1: I was in reading the book, I was like, I
- 3:13Speaker 1: don't really know where a season two would come in,
- 3:15Speaker 1: like they ended pretty great, And then watching the show,
- 3:18Speaker 1: I was like, all right, this is one of those
- 3:20Speaker 1: rare moments on a book to screen adaptation where I
- 3:25Speaker 1: feel like they knew what they were doing because it's
- 3:27Speaker 1: set up season two so well, will we get a
- 3:30Speaker 1: season three? I don't know, but at least the bridge
- 3:32Speaker 1: from season one to season two, I thought they changed
- 3:35Speaker 1: just enough where I was hooked and looking forward to it.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree. I think the changes made sense. A
- 3:41Speaker 2: friend of mine read the book and didn't watch the show,
- 3:43Speaker 2: but was listening to our recaps and she was Gus
- 3:46Speaker 2: in the book I think is Barbara, And the whole
- 3:48Speaker 2: time she was like, who's Gus, Like it took her
- 3:50Speaker 2: a full episode to figure out, like who we were
- 3:52Speaker 2: talking about. Just little changes like that. But I think
- 3:55Speaker 2: you're right. It does set it up so much better
- 3:57Speaker 2: for a season two because at the end of the season,
- 4:01Speaker 2: you're like, where they go from here? But they've made
- 4:03Speaker 2: it work. I mean, it doesn't feel like they flow
- 4:07Speaker 2: nicely like season one to season two flows really well
- 4:09Speaker 2: for me. So this episode, the synopsis is it's May's
- 4:13Speaker 2: bachelorette party and Amanda commits to giving her notoriously over
- 4:18Speaker 2: planning sister a night full of carefree fun and making memories.
- 4:24Speaker 2: What was your first impression of this episode.
- 4:28Speaker 1: My first impression of this episode was I'm still really
- 4:32Speaker 1: excited about Merridich.
- 4:35Speaker 2: That's so exciting because.
- 4:37Speaker 1: I just love their stories and like seeing just them
- 4:41Speaker 1: be together.
- 4:43Speaker 2: I'm so glad to hear that, because I feel like,
- 4:44Speaker 2: as we're doing those reviews, it feels like nobody's watching
- 4:47Speaker 2: this show, Like nobody seems to be talking about it.
- 4:49Speaker 2: There doesn't seem to be a lot of feedback about it.
- 4:53Speaker 2: I really like this series. Wendy's not doing these reviews
- 4:56Speaker 2: because she was not a fan and was like, I
- 4:58Speaker 2: really don't want to do whole season of this, which
- 5:02Speaker 2: I don't get.
- 5:03Speaker 1: But I'm also happy because then I get to be
- 5:05Speaker 1: here to talk about it.
- 5:06Speaker 2: It's been so fun. And initially we were like, we're
- 5:09Speaker 2: not gonna do it, and I was like, I have
- 5:10Speaker 2: an idea, what if? Because I wanted to watch and
- 5:12Speaker 2: talk about it. So this has been really fun for
- 5:15Speaker 2: me to get to talk to people that we might
- 5:17Speaker 2: not normally have gotten to have on the show. It's
- 5:19Speaker 2: interesting that you say, like you're still all in on Marrinach.
- 5:22Speaker 2: This episode for me felt like a huge like record
- 5:26Speaker 2: scratch in terms of the tone and the pacing. There
- 5:29Speaker 2: are a lot of things that I liked about it,
- 5:31Speaker 2: but I was like a little bit jarred by what
- 5:36Speaker 2: was happening, and I think that's maybe to be expected.
- 5:38Speaker 2: It's episode four of an eight episode season, so at
- 5:41Speaker 2: some point, like we kind of got to just develop
- 5:44Speaker 2: things and not there's not a lot of forward motion
- 5:46Speaker 2: in my opinion, but there are a lot of things
- 5:50Speaker 2: that I liked, So why don't we start with what
- 6:00Speaker 2: you liked about this episode.
- 6:02Speaker 1: So what I liked, First of all, you're gonna throw
- 6:05Speaker 1: Rhiann and Fish into Maranath and she gets to play
- 6:10Speaker 1: like she's usually the lead. She's usually the one, you know,
- 6:13Speaker 1: the girl next door that everyone's falling in love with,
- 6:16Speaker 1: and not that she's quite a villain, but for her
- 6:18Speaker 1: to come in and be like the bad guy yes
- 6:21Speaker 1: the time answer one yeah, or he's like you're in
- 6:25Speaker 1: my bone is do not answer and she's just like, well,
- 6:27Speaker 1: what I'm hearing is I'm stealing your phone like red Flat,
- 6:31Speaker 1: You're right, the arian And so I loved that. I'm
- 6:34Speaker 1: not loving like I don't want there to be a
- 6:37Speaker 1: huge like love triangle, like I'm glad she came in,
- 6:39Speaker 1: we got to meet her. I'm cool if she just leaps.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Then I love.
- 6:45Speaker 1: I am really loving this Clayton and may storyline, like
- 6:51Speaker 1: them getting to meet later in life and have this
- 6:54Speaker 1: moment you know where you know, and I feel like
- 6:56Speaker 1: he's doing a nice job at least where like he's
- 6:58Speaker 1: coming in and very actively being like you are my daughter,
- 7:02Speaker 1: I want to know you. I'm here as long as
- 7:04Speaker 1: you want, and like trying to be at her life
- 7:06Speaker 1: without also taking over. So there are these like sweet
- 7:09Speaker 1: moments with them, him and Gus, like I'm excited to
- 7:13Speaker 1: see where this goes with Clayton. And then the things
- 7:17Speaker 1: that I think really start out to me in this
- 7:18Speaker 1: episode and why I really liked it and really was
- 7:21Speaker 1: drawn to this episode was with the Bachelorette, like having
- 7:25Speaker 1: someone else take that play. I'm the planner. I like
- 7:27Speaker 1: to plan things, and you know, I have to win
- 7:29Speaker 1: and I have to be in control, and seeing may
- 7:32Speaker 1: let somebody else take that over for her, and then
- 7:35Speaker 1: Shift gets to enjoy a night out with her friends
- 7:37Speaker 1: being free. I recently had a night with a friend
- 7:41Speaker 1: where we had a few glasses of wine and it
- 7:43Speaker 1: came up of like, I don't remember the last time
- 7:46Speaker 1: I did a cartwheel, and so then we're just out
- 7:49Speaker 1: on the front lawn doing cartwheels. And so when they're
- 7:53Speaker 1: bringing to talk to you out that I had this
- 7:55Speaker 1: moment where I was like I literally just did this
- 7:57Speaker 1: where it's like I had this night where I was
- 7:58Speaker 1: like can I still do a cartwheel? So I loved that,
- 8:02Speaker 1: like I just felt like, hey, I did this, like can.
- 8:05Speaker 2: You because I definitely cannot still do one.
- 8:09Speaker 1: I can do like one.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Even after a couple of gasses of wine. That's impressive.
- 8:13Speaker 1: I yeah. And then and then it's and then you
- 8:15Speaker 1: should just stop. You should do the one be like
- 8:17Speaker 1: that was amazing, and then you should stop. If anyone
- 8:20Speaker 1: listening is attempting it, maybe don't a And then it's
- 8:24Speaker 1: celebrate and it'd be like, great, I did that. We
- 8:25Speaker 1: don't even repeat this because it just gets worse. And
- 8:27Speaker 1: then the last thing was so I am oldest daughter
- 8:30Speaker 1: in my family. I have one younger brother, and so
- 8:33Speaker 1: I feel like my whole life, I was always the
- 8:35Speaker 1: one where I was in charge and planning and looking
- 8:38Speaker 1: out to an extent, looking out for my parents, looking
- 8:40Speaker 1: out for me, looking up for my brother. And we
- 8:43Speaker 1: have recently had this dynamic shift where he has kind
- 8:46Speaker 1: of stepped up and he he had a conversation like
- 8:48Speaker 1: we were dealing with a family issue. And I was
- 8:51Speaker 1: usually the one that everyone like leaned on and talked to,
- 8:53Speaker 1: and I was really struggling being that person. And he
- 8:55Speaker 1: kind of was like I've got this, like you go
- 8:58Speaker 1: take care of you like I'm handled this. And Solena
- 9:01Speaker 1: also seeing Amanda be like, hey, I love that you've
- 9:03Speaker 1: taken care of me. My whole life, but like, let
- 9:06Speaker 1: me take care of you. So because it's just like
- 9:09Speaker 1: an episode that brought me personal life feels.
- 9:11Speaker 2: I really loved that too. I'm also an eldest daughter,
- 9:15Speaker 2: and that moment of gratitude where she finally like we've
- 9:18Speaker 2: seen so many moments of her in this season and
- 9:21Speaker 2: a half of May stepping up and being the one
- 9:24Speaker 2: to protect Amanda and kind of being this second parent.
- 9:28Speaker 2: I've been asking all this season, like we have this
- 9:30Speaker 2: question about who's May's dad and she meets him and
- 9:33Speaker 2: I'm like, wait a minute, what about Amanda's dad? I
- 9:35Speaker 2: where was that going? And I love that she says
- 9:37Speaker 2: like I've never cared. I didn't feel like I was
- 9:40Speaker 2: missing anything because I had you and Mom. That was
- 9:43Speaker 2: a great moment and a great revelation for the audience too.
- 9:47Speaker 2: I think I think this episode is so May heavy.
- 9:50Speaker 2: The way Gus tells the story of May's life through
- 9:53Speaker 2: her time cards and the memories that are related to
- 9:55Speaker 2: those I loved so much. Like when she first brings
- 9:58Speaker 2: them out, I was like, come on, guys, and then
- 10:01Speaker 2: she's like this is you know, she missed the prom
- 10:03Speaker 2: because she had to step up and be the one
- 10:05Speaker 2: to keep the restaurant open or she insisted we stay
- 10:08Speaker 2: open on Christmas Day and that it was full of
- 10:10Speaker 2: people who had nowhere else to go. Uh. It was
- 10:14Speaker 2: very grounding in terms of may storyline and how Gus
- 10:20Speaker 2: feels about her, because I don't know that we've gotten
- 10:23Speaker 2: a chance to see Gus like she's had these little
- 10:25Speaker 2: moments of coming out and showing like she wasn't fully
- 10:28Speaker 2: wrapped up in herself, like she remembers those moments with
- 10:31Speaker 2: her girls. We see in the beginning when she's making
- 10:35Speaker 2: the jam, she almost has this like level of perfection.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Everything has to be perfect, everything has to fall in line.
- 10:42Speaker 2: And it's really funny that I have a lot of
- 10:44Speaker 2: thoughts about the bachelorette, but to see like her level
- 10:48Speaker 2: of control that she needed to have over everything and
- 10:51Speaker 2: finally for her to feel comfortable that someone can handle it,
- 10:55Speaker 2: like someone can take over and it's going to be okay.
- 10:58Speaker 2: As a fellow control freak, I appreciated that as well.
- 11:02Speaker 2: Do you have more likes?
- 11:04Speaker 1: I think those are my big ones. Just seeing the
- 11:07Speaker 1: sister is kind of be moving kind of into opposite roles,
- 11:11Speaker 1: letting you maybe get her hair down, you know, because
- 11:13Speaker 1: as she's making the jam, or like you see in
- 11:15Speaker 1: season one, there's that episode where she's in the Inner
- 11:17Speaker 1: New York kitchen and everything has to be like exactly
- 11:21Speaker 1: perfect in a kitchen, and then you see her making
- 11:24Speaker 1: the jam and she's you know, everyone's enjoying the jam
- 11:26Speaker 1: and eating the jam. They're like, come at you with us,
- 11:28Speaker 1: and she's like scrubbing down pots and it is nice
- 11:31Speaker 1: because I know what that's like, where it's like I
- 11:32Speaker 1: have to have everything the way I want it because
- 11:35Speaker 1: I you know who else is going to take care
- 11:36Speaker 1: of it. And then having that interplay with the sisters
- 11:39Speaker 1: where it's like you can take a deep breath like
- 11:42Speaker 1: someone else will be there.
- 11:44Speaker 2: It's such a nice moment where you see her like
- 11:45Speaker 2: even straightening the spices, it like is a very impactful
- 11:49Speaker 2: moment where you see how important those details are to her.
- 11:51Speaker 2: I have just a couple of little few lines that
- 11:53Speaker 2: I wanted to call out that I loved, I like
- 11:55Speaker 2: my wine in boxes. It's easier to stack love that.
- 11:59Speaker 2: Shauna calling Sergio's X arriving, the Haley's comment of gossip,
- 12:04Speaker 2: and May's I don't stream cheat line when Jay Cuses
- 12:07Speaker 2: are watching ahead on their show loved it, loved it.
- 12:11Speaker 2: Let's talk what we wished for in this episode.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Yeah, my biggest thought is I guess we'll start with
- 12:19Speaker 1: my throw I thought, which was just every time I
- 12:21Speaker 1: watch an episode of this show, I just get this quick,
- 12:25Speaker 1: little brief moment where I'm like, remember how Frank Junior
- 12:28Speaker 1: is dead in the book? I missed that and it's
- 12:31Speaker 1: just this moment where he's just being the worst, and
- 12:35Speaker 1: I'm like, I missed the version of Merrinach where we
- 12:38Speaker 1: don't have to deal with you, and I know you're
- 12:41Speaker 1: here for plot purposes, but like you could leave.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Well, my notes in all caps say I do not
- 12:46Speaker 2: want a Frank Junior redemption. Whatever we're trying to go here,
- 12:50Speaker 2: I don't want it. And I get that, like I
- 12:54Speaker 2: feel like they want this happy ending, but can he
- 12:56Speaker 2: just leave? Like there's no version of this town that
- 12:58Speaker 2: needs him in it.
- 13:00Speaker 1: No, the only version is he realizes that he's a jerk.
- 13:03Speaker 1: He signs the divorce papers and then somehow he gets
- 13:07Speaker 1: a job and mister Chicken like corporate and he's.
- 13:09Speaker 2: Yes, he's out because Frankie's leaving too. So it makes it.
- 13:14Speaker 2: You know, there's that little part of you is like, well,
- 13:16Speaker 2: you don't want her to fully leave town and leave
- 13:18Speaker 2: his daughter behind, but she's moving on too, so she leaves.
- 13:22Speaker 2: It makes it a little more acceptable for him to
- 13:24Speaker 2: just be gone.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Yeah, she'll go off to New York. Maybe mister Chicken
- 13:28Speaker 1: Corporate is in you know, the New England.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Area, Yeah, New Jersey probably, Yeah.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Yeah. So that's like every time I watch an episode,
- 13:36Speaker 1: I'm just like, we don't need this, just no. And
- 13:38Speaker 1: then my other thought while watching it is I have
- 13:42Speaker 1: not listened to your recaps of the Way Home, but
- 13:44Speaker 1: from what I've heard is you guys are big fans
- 13:46Speaker 1: of The Way Home.
- 13:46Speaker 2: We are.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Okay, me too. I love on the Way Home. Where
- 13:53Speaker 1: when when they have the actors playing like the young
- 13:55Speaker 1: Elliott and the young Cat, like they look so alike
- 13:59Speaker 1: and so they walk on screen and you're immediately like,
- 14:02Speaker 1: this is teenage Elliott or like you know, and you
- 14:04Speaker 1: can see who these people are, and I feel like
- 14:07Speaker 1: the Chicken sisters did not put that much thought into
- 14:11Speaker 1: like I don't know, like I just have a lot
- 14:15Speaker 1: of redheads in my life, and the redheads like, do
- 14:18Speaker 1: you like you can't just throw a red head in
- 14:20Speaker 1: the scene. And I'm going to see it's May, like,
- 14:21Speaker 1: that's just sloppy. It wasn't until it got to like
- 14:24Speaker 1: teenage May where I was like, oh this is me. Yes,
- 14:27Speaker 1: when the kids are on the screen every time, I'm
- 14:29Speaker 1: just like, it takes me a minute where I'm like,
- 14:32Speaker 1: who are these random children?
- 14:34Speaker 2: And then I'm young us. That is a miss for me.
- 14:37Speaker 1: I don't see, I like, just don't. So it does
- 14:40Speaker 1: like when we do the flashbacks. I love the storyline
- 14:44Speaker 1: of the flashbacks, and I love what they're trying to
- 14:46Speaker 1: tell us and show us about these family dynamics, but
- 14:49Speaker 1: it does take me out of the story a little
- 14:52Speaker 1: bit because it takes me a minute to be like,
- 14:55Speaker 1: this is Gus, this is May, like so homework. We
- 14:59Speaker 1: know that you can do incredible casting, and I just
- 15:02Speaker 1: feel like we didn't quite put as much thought into
- 15:06Speaker 1: into this one.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree. I got to talk about May's sophisticate
- 15:11Speaker 2: look in general. I think it's a funny idea that
- 15:14Speaker 2: she wanted to tightly control this party and she didn't
- 15:17Speaker 2: want this over the top. While it was over the top,
- 15:20Speaker 2: but she didn't want to be out of control. She
- 15:22Speaker 2: didn't want to be in a situation that she couldn't
- 15:24Speaker 2: control every aspect of it. I think we pushed it
- 15:28Speaker 2: a little too far. Like to me, it's like a
- 15:30Speaker 2: parody of what somebody who wants to be in control
- 15:34Speaker 2: would plan, like seven ye wine pairings. This is especially
- 15:38Speaker 2: if you want me to believe that this is a
- 15:39Speaker 2: woman who couldn't even get it together enough to plan
- 15:42Speaker 2: her own wedding, but then she can plan this ridiculously
- 15:45Speaker 2: elaborate dinner party. It was a little too much for me.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Also too much for me was Nancy's petition moment. Look,
- 15:53Speaker 2: I'm glad that she's finding her voice. Like when she
- 15:57Speaker 2: stands up and she's like, y'all gotta sign the petition,
- 15:59Speaker 2: I was like, what uh? Like, it's a little too easy.
- 16:04Speaker 2: The way Patrick's like thanks and takes the petition and
- 16:07Speaker 2: starts passing it. It didn't land for me. I have
- 16:11Speaker 2: a couple of things that I'm worried about. Well, one,
- 16:13Speaker 2: we're a little bit too much limbo about this trip
- 16:15Speaker 2: situation with the pastor. I know she's not gonna go.
- 16:18Speaker 2: We saw her be worried about Gus and her ability
- 16:21Speaker 2: to function on her own. She's not gonna go, but
- 16:25Speaker 2: can we just get there, Like let's just don't I
- 16:28Speaker 2: don't need this. I'm also very worried about Clayton. I
- 16:35Speaker 2: like that May is getting when he steps up and
- 16:38Speaker 2: he's like, I paid for the wine. That's such a
- 16:40Speaker 2: nice way for her to feel supported, for her to
- 16:42Speaker 2: feel like someone has her back because no one has
- 16:44Speaker 2: had her back. I just feel like he came into town.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Their initial meeting went so well. Things are going well
- 16:51Speaker 2: with him and Gus. I just feel like the other
- 16:53Speaker 2: shoe is going to drop at any moment, and that's
- 16:56Speaker 2: my concern.
- 16:56Speaker 1: I'm just gonna believe that the other shoe and Marynathiw's
- 16:59Speaker 1: always go to be Frank Junior and they will just
- 17:01Speaker 1: let me have Clayton be just this guy who comes in.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Of these women have been on their own for so
- 17:07Speaker 1: long and they're they're I'm just they're gonna let Clayton
- 17:10Speaker 1: come in and just be this like not missing peace.
- 17:13Speaker 1: But I'm just don't do it. Don't do it all over.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Maybe we can have some good guys, because the pastor
- 17:20Speaker 2: has turned out to be kind of a disappointment. Like
- 17:22Speaker 2: at the end of season when you're like, that's so nice.
- 17:24Speaker 2: Nancy has someone who's gonna care about her, and he's
- 17:26Speaker 2: just kind of like Frank Senior light like maybe not
- 17:30Speaker 2: as problematic, but certainly not the man that she needs.
- 17:34Speaker 2: I'm just worried about it. So I would love to.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Know if I would love to know if she and
- 17:39Speaker 1: the pastor had conversations off camera about how long is
- 17:44Speaker 1: this trip?
- 17:45Speaker 2: Where are we going?
- 17:46Speaker 1: What are we doing there? Because the conversation we've seen
- 17:49Speaker 1: it's for being like wait months and likes it, you know.
- 17:53Speaker 1: And then and then when she's talking about like how
- 17:56Speaker 1: she's kind of agreed to go but doesn't even know
- 17:58Speaker 1: what they're doing, and he's just like, you're just going
- 18:00Speaker 1: to be there to support me, And it's like, sir,
- 18:02Speaker 1: why would you invite her to come on this month's
- 18:05Speaker 1: long trip with you and just have her family? Like
- 18:08Speaker 1: why can't she get her hands dirty and help? Are
- 18:11Speaker 1: they building houses? Like I don't even know what they're doing?
- 18:13Speaker 2: Well, that's the thing. Is that a plot point that
- 18:15Speaker 2: we don't know what they're doing? Or is it simply
- 18:18Speaker 2: they're not wasting time on it, because I we could
- 18:20Speaker 2: waste a little bit of time and give us a
- 18:22Speaker 2: tiny bit of information unless there's some big, crazy reveal
- 18:25Speaker 2: that we don't know what is not?
- 18:28Speaker 1: Yeah, have like one more conversation on camera by this trip,
- 18:32Speaker 1: like that you've agreed to go on out of Like do.
- 18:35Speaker 2: I need a passport?
- 18:36Speaker 1: Like?
- 18:36Speaker 2: What are we doing?
- 18:37Speaker 1: Well, she's already bought her plane tickets. I assume she
- 18:39Speaker 1: don't you have to have a passport before you buy
- 18:42Speaker 1: out of country plane tickets. No, yes, I feel like
- 18:46Speaker 1: the last time, I mean I would buy number in Yeah. Like,
- 18:50Speaker 1: we went on a family trip to Ireland a couple
- 18:51Speaker 1: of years ago, so one family member booked all the flights,
- 18:54Speaker 1: but I'm pretty sure I had to email them my
- 18:56Speaker 1: passport number.
- 18:57Speaker 2: I think you're right.
- 18:58Speaker 1: I don't know this woman who hasn't ever really left Marinach.
- 19:02Speaker 1: She just has a passport in the wings, waiting.
- 19:05Speaker 2: Just waiting for her chance. She didn't get on the
- 19:08Speaker 2: bus to DC, but she's gonna.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Just going to South America. Yeah, I don't so, I
- 19:13Speaker 1: just have a lot of questions. I just feel like, ma'am,
- 19:17Speaker 1: you're realizing how bad your first marriage was. You're seeing
- 19:23Speaker 1: actively a marriage fall apart between your son and your
- 19:27Speaker 1: daughter in law. Maybe have one more conversation before you
- 19:31Speaker 1: fly to South America with.
- 19:33Speaker 2: Have we have we learned nothing, Nancy. I guess my
- 19:37Speaker 2: other hope is that we brought in such a big
- 19:41Speaker 2: name for Clayton, going back to the Clayton of it all,
- 19:43Speaker 2: that my hope there would be that that wasn't just
- 19:46Speaker 2: a one season wonder. Although we did bring Ran and
- 19:49Speaker 2: Fish in for what I'm going to assume is a
- 19:51Speaker 2: single episode. I mean, he deletes her from his phone
- 19:54Speaker 2: at the end, which is great, Like, I love that's
- 19:58Speaker 2: so fun. Bring her in for one stunt cast that,
- 20:00Speaker 2: get her to promote it, Bring in these familiar homework faces,
- 20:03Speaker 2: get people to watch this freaking show. All right, let's talk.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Did you see that, Tiviny? Did you see that? Moments?
- 20:08Speaker 1: So mine was the sophisticut just when everyone starts parading
- 20:12Speaker 1: in in their outfits, Like Amanda walks in and just
- 20:16Speaker 1: like a cute little sun dress and I was like great.
- 20:19Speaker 1: And then Shauna walks in and I was like, Okay,
- 20:23Speaker 1: different vibe, and everyone just has these like wild ensembles
- 20:29Speaker 1: on and.
- 20:30Speaker 2: I was like a seven different parties.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm just like, what's happening here?
- 20:34Speaker 2: Uh huh?
- 20:34Speaker 1: And I'm fully like, I think like my dream bachelorette
- 20:38Speaker 1: would be to like write an airbb on the ocean
- 20:40Speaker 1: and basically not leave that house for kiddy. Same but
- 20:43Speaker 1: I would like want to have a nice dinner with
- 20:45Speaker 1: my friends, but I don't. I don't have the control
- 20:49Speaker 1: to do like a seven course wine pairy. It would
- 20:51Speaker 1: just be like we're gonna have to sit down meal
- 20:53Speaker 1: and there will be wine. Like So that's like when
- 20:58Speaker 1: you said earlier hot that was hard for me, like
- 20:59Speaker 1: that where I was like, I know that she had
- 21:01Speaker 1: control feet, but like this hasn't been an area of
- 21:04Speaker 1: her expertise that we've seen, sure, and so it's weird
- 21:07Speaker 1: that it's coming out now in such a way of
- 21:09Speaker 1: like we have to eat these you know, these meals
- 21:11Speaker 1: in this order with this wine. No one's taking it seriously.
- 21:15Speaker 1: I don't know. I just feel like you could have
- 21:16Speaker 1: done I don't know, the sisters could have talked prior
- 21:19Speaker 1: to the bachelorette and just been like, Hey, we're gonna
- 21:21Speaker 1: do the sit down meal. We're gonna you know, eat
- 21:23Speaker 1: diner together, drink some wine, and then we're hitting the
- 21:26Speaker 1: town for Snannians. Like you could have easily done Bold
- 21:29Speaker 1: without having this big blow up moment in the middle
- 21:33Speaker 1: where she thinks everyone's making fun of her. But yeah,
- 21:36Speaker 1: that it was just like a why it was when
- 21:37Speaker 1: they all started walking in, I was just like, what
- 21:39Speaker 1: are we doing? What are we?
- 21:42Speaker 2: Yeah? I totally agree. My only real digit see that
- 21:45Speaker 2: moment is when may is in bed, like going to
- 21:47Speaker 2: sleep at the end of the night, like she's still
- 21:49Speaker 2: full face of makeup. Amanda could have at very least
- 21:51Speaker 2: gotten a makeup why but even the bold lip it's
- 21:53Speaker 2: still going strong.
- 21:56Speaker 1: I just like, take your makeup brings to your sister,
- 22:00Speaker 1: but you can be in control and just get.
- 22:04Speaker 2: A get a make up erase or wash clove. My goodness,
- 22:07Speaker 2: she's getting married. She cannot go to bed with her
- 22:09Speaker 2: makeup on. So we do a segment in these episodes
- 22:13Speaker 2: called fresh Eyes. Maybe not apply to you because you've
- 22:15Speaker 2: seen all of it, but are there any questions after
- 22:17Speaker 2: watching this episode or moments you feel like you missed
- 22:19Speaker 2: or need more clarity on in this series.
- 22:23Speaker 1: I mean, I've watched the show yea within the last
- 22:25Speaker 1: like two three weeks, so I'm semi new to it.
- 22:30Speaker 2: Yeah, you probably know more than I do, honestly, have
- 22:32Speaker 2: you seen it more recently?
- 22:34Speaker 1: One of the things I'm wondering about is like, is
- 22:37Speaker 1: frank Junior getting a redemption arc because we don't need it.
- 22:40Speaker 1: The show doesn't need a homework. We don't need to
- 22:42Speaker 1: wrap every storyline up with about like sometimes people can
- 22:45Speaker 1: just be not good people.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Life is messy. Let's shooe.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Yeah, he can just once we get that train arm fixed,
- 22:53Speaker 1: he can hop a trade and just get out of Barnet.
- 22:58Speaker 1: And then I guess, like I never really listened to
- 23:03Speaker 1: and because I haven't watched the show until recently, I
- 23:05Speaker 1: haven't listened to your recaps or the Deck the Hallmark
- 23:08Speaker 1: recaps closely. But Frankie and I can't fit Lindsay, Yes,
- 23:16Speaker 1: when is like getting Dudley out of here?
- 23:19Speaker 2: Yes, thank you so much. You talked about that so
- 23:22Speaker 2: much in season one, and I bring it up in
- 23:24Speaker 2: every episode because it's been really a mix, like some
- 23:27Speaker 2: of our co hosts have only watched like their episode
- 23:30Speaker 2: that they're doing, and I'm like, what do you think
- 23:31Speaker 2: about Frankie and Lindsay And they're like, what are you
- 23:33Speaker 2: talking about? They're great, Yeah, I'm team Brincky and Lindsay.
- 23:37Speaker 2: I think it was in season one we were like,
- 23:40Speaker 2: are they trying to tell us something? And then I
- 23:42Speaker 2: felt like season finale. Season one was very clear what
- 23:47Speaker 2: they were doing and the whole Dudley of it all.
- 23:50Speaker 2: His name's Dudley and they call him dud That's not
- 23:53Speaker 2: an accident, my honestly. One of my biggest concerns about
- 23:58Speaker 2: this season is we're building towards the wedding that's got
- 24:02Speaker 2: to be the season finale, and there are so many
- 24:05Speaker 2: storylines that need wrapping up, Like are we going to
- 24:07Speaker 2: see Lindsey and Frankie finally realizing their feelings for each other?
- 24:10Speaker 2: Are we going to see Amanda Sergio finally getting together?
- 24:13Speaker 2: Is Jake Foy finally going to return? Like all of
- 24:16Speaker 2: these moments? What's gonna happen with Clayton. I'm a little
- 24:18Speaker 2: worried about episode eight.
- 24:19Speaker 1: I gotta tell you, Yeah, we only only have four
- 24:22Speaker 1: episodes left, and I feel like I need some clothes. Yeahye,
- 24:25Speaker 1: I need at least in the bite of finale, for
- 24:28Speaker 1: Frankie and Lindsay to realize there's something here, yes goode,
- 24:32Speaker 1: because their chemistry is off the charts and I need
- 24:35Speaker 1: them to realize, like, hey, yet, just recognize what's happening
- 24:41Speaker 1: here because we all see it and I need it that.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Was my big wish last week was that Hallmark didn't
- 24:46Speaker 2: make me believe that Frankie actually enjoyed that kiss with Dudley.
- 24:50Speaker 2: I was like, I would have played that so differently
- 24:52Speaker 2: because she walks away from it and she was like, oh,
- 24:54Speaker 2: that was nice. I wanted her to be like disappointed
- 24:57Speaker 2: and be like, oh, and that's not how they played.
- 25:00Speaker 2: That could have been a great moment of realization for her,
- 25:02Speaker 2: but nobody asked me, no, why not? I mean, seriously,
- 25:10Speaker 2: who's your feathered friend of the week, the MVP of
- 25:12Speaker 2: this episode?
- 25:13Speaker 1: For you? For me? This week, it is Leah Thompson Nancy.
- 25:18Speaker 1: And every episode I feel like we get a little
- 25:20Speaker 1: bit more of her realizing just how closeted she's been
- 25:26Speaker 1: and just how much she wasn't noticing about the men
- 25:29Speaker 1: in her life. And so I just feel like she's
- 25:33Speaker 1: hopefully on like a precipice of understanding how valuable and
- 25:39Speaker 1: strong and important she is on her own. You know
- 25:43Speaker 1: that she has, like she plays a vital role in
- 25:45Speaker 1: Amanda's life and Gus's life, and I'm hoping she gets
- 25:49Speaker 1: those three hundred signatures and it's this moment for her
- 25:51Speaker 1: where she was like, I did this like I can
- 25:54Speaker 1: do something, you know, I'm It wasn't like a full
- 25:57Speaker 1: MVP moment, but there was like a spark in her
- 25:59Speaker 1: in this episode. I was like, we're gonna get We're
- 26:01Speaker 1: gonna get this moment where she's like, I am enough
- 26:04Speaker 1: on my own, I could do it me. Yes, Like
- 26:06Speaker 1: I've been hoping that that's along with everything else I'm
- 26:09Speaker 1: looking forward to. I need this moment from Nancy where
- 26:12Speaker 1: she's like, oh, like, women can do these hard things too.
- 26:16Speaker 2: One of my favorite scenes from this whole season has
- 26:18Speaker 2: been when she goes to Frank and she's like, I'm
- 26:20Speaker 2: sorry for the role I played, but you owe me
- 26:22Speaker 2: an apology too. Is standing up for herself. I loved
- 26:25Speaker 2: that because that is her weakest link right there, is
- 26:29Speaker 2: her relationship yes per Son. So that being said, don't
- 26:33Speaker 2: get mad. My feathered friend of the week is not
- 26:35Speaker 2: somebody that I like, but someone that I think is
- 26:38Speaker 2: playing an important role in this episode, and it's Frank Junior.
- 26:41Speaker 2: So I think this episode is a little bit stuck
- 26:44Speaker 2: in time for me. It lacks forward motion. There's important elements,
- 26:49Speaker 2: but I do think that Frank Junior is driving the
- 26:53Speaker 2: conflict forward in a really important way. When he pushes
- 26:56Speaker 2: for a revamped chicken recipe, he finds a way to
- 26:59Speaker 2: make it financial viable, the narrator reminding us he's still
- 27:02Speaker 2: using the proprietary seasoning recipe used by the Chicken sisters.
- 27:06Speaker 2: You know, this is all happening in the background, but
- 27:08Speaker 2: it seems very clear that this is going to come
- 27:12Speaker 2: into the forefront. There's going to be some sort of
- 27:14Speaker 2: conflict there, and hopefully it's the conflict that leads to
- 27:19Speaker 2: the demise and exile of Frank Junior. Yes, one can
- 27:24Speaker 2: only dream. All apologies to that actor. I'm sure you're lovely,
- 27:28Speaker 2: but Frank Junior is the worst.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Like in every time I feel like we have these
- 27:33Speaker 1: like there'll be like a glimpse. I'm like, oh, is
- 27:36Speaker 1: he going to be a human about this? And then
- 27:38Speaker 1: he just like pivots and you're like, Nope, no, he's not.
- 27:41Speaker 1: He's he's just gonna double down on being awful.
- 27:44Speaker 2: Even in the littlest things like call me Frank, Like
- 27:46Speaker 2: he's distancing himself from his family, doesn't.
- 27:50Speaker 1: Want that to be sure. Also like him being his
- 27:54Speaker 1: dad now, like I'm no longer in the shadow, like
- 27:58Speaker 1: I am in charge.
- 28:00Speaker 2: Yeah, that's who. All right, Well, those are our thoughts
- 28:03Speaker 2: on season two, episode four of The Chicken Sisters. Any
- 28:06Speaker 2: final thoughts, Aaron Hallmark.
- 28:09Speaker 1: There's still time to listen to these episodes. And if
- 28:13Speaker 1: you don't have the next four episodes laid out in
- 28:17Speaker 1: the way we need them to, there is still time.
- 28:20Speaker 1: I know your type friend around schedule, there's still time
- 28:22Speaker 1: for you to wrap up some of these storylines for us.
- 28:26Speaker 1: My final thoughts, some final edits. Yeah, there's like four
- 28:30Speaker 1: weeks until the finale, so you've got time to rewrite
- 28:34Speaker 1: that if you need to.
- 28:35Speaker 2: Totally well, I don't think I need to ask. You
- 28:38Speaker 2: are going to continue watching this series? Yeah, AINI issues, Yeah,
- 28:41Speaker 2: I'm going to continue watching. Well, thank you so much
- 28:44Speaker 2: for being here, Thank you for having me after this episode.
