- 0:00You ever have one of those moments where you know
- 0:02something's off, but you can't quite explain it?
- 0:04Maybe your meds hit differently, maybe your stiffness creeps in
- 0:07earlier than usual, or maybe you just feel it in your gut.
- 0:12I remember 1 morning I was getting ready for work, trying
- 0:15to button up a shirt. Same routine I've done year
- 0:17after year, and suddenly my hand just didn't cooperate.
- 0:22Not bad, not scary, just different.
- 0:25And that tiny little change? It rattled me more than anything
- 0:29else. Now, here's the wild part.
- 0:32When I told my doctor about it, you know what he said?
- 0:35Oh, that's normal. Normal for who?
- 0:40And then it hit me. Sometimes you notice your
- 0:42Parkinson's changing before your doctor ever will.
- 0:46And today, we're going to talk about how to recognize it early,
- 0:50clearly and confidently before it sneaks up on you.
- 0:54Now stay tuned to the end because I'm going to share
- 0:56something brand new that I've been building that'll help you
- 0:58spot these changes faster. Plus, Carmen's got a care
- 1:01partner corner that you don't want to miss.
- 1:05Welcome to Living with Parkinson's, The Good, the Bad,
- 1:08and the Reality. Real talk, real life, real
- 1:12community with Bryce Perry. Let's begin.
- 1:17Hey everyone, welcome back to the channel.
- 1:20I want to take a second right off the top to thank my loyal
- 1:23viewers and listeners who keep showing up week after week.
- 1:26And a massive welcome to all of our new subscribers.
- 1:30New to the podcast. This community is exploding
- 1:32right now. I mean, the YouTube channel
- 1:34alone grew by over 1700 subscribers just in September
- 1:38alone. And that's just not numbers,
- 1:41that's people. That's stories.
- 1:43That's a movement forming right here.
- 1:46So if you're new, I'm Bryce, and this is living with Parkinson's,
- 1:49The good, the bad, and the reality.
- 1:52Our channel is all about the real stuff, strength, hope,
- 1:55humor, and honest conversations about life with Parkinson's for
- 1:59both those living with it and those who love them.
- 2:02And if that's the kind of space that you've been looking for,
- 2:05hit that subscribe button, leave a comment and get involved
- 2:08because this is where we figure it all out together.
- 2:12Now let me tell you about the day that I knew something had
- 2:15changed. It wasn't dramatic.
- 2:18There wasn't a fall or a big symptom flare up, just a subtle
- 2:22moment that fell off. I was getting ready for work,
- 2:26meds were on time, same breakfast, same schedule, but my
- 2:29body just felt like it was running a few seconds behind my
- 2:32brain like a badly dubbed movie. My thoughts were saying move and
- 2:37my hands were buffering. And of course, I did what most
- 2:40of us do. I blame something else.
- 2:43I didn't sleep well. Too much stress.
- 2:45Maybe I need some more coffee. Which, to be fair, is usually
- 2:49true. But when those little moments
- 2:52start happening more often, you start noticing a pattern.
- 2:55And here's the key, paying attention to those whispers.
- 3:00Because Parkinson's rarely shouts.
- 3:02At first it starts with whispers that only you can hear.
- 3:06Now, I'll be honest, I didn't always listen.
- 3:09There were days that Carmen would say you're moving slower
- 3:12today and I'd say no, I'm fine, which in Parkinson language
- 3:17means I'm absolutely not fine. And she'd say, OK, just
- 3:23checking, which, you know, that's marry people code for.
- 3:26I told you so. Or it's going to be.
- 3:29And that's the beauty of having someone who notices.
- 3:31But it it's also why self-awareness matters.
- 3:36You can't fix what you don't recognize.
- 3:38Let me say that again. You cannot fix what you don't
- 3:41recognize. So here's what I've learned
- 3:44after 15 years of living with this Your doctor sees you for 30
- 3:48minutes every six months if you're lucky.
- 3:52And you live with Parkinson's 24 hours a day, which means you're
- 3:56the expert on your own body, whether you realize it or not.
- 4:00And the sooner you start paying attention to those tiny shifts,
- 4:03the sooner you can bring them up before they turn into something
- 4:06big. And that's the key.
- 4:08That's the key. Now, let's talk about how you
- 4:11can actually notice these changes early.
- 4:14First, you've got to know you're normal.
- 4:16Not normal, you're normal. If you don't know what you're
- 4:19what a good day looks like, you're not going to recognize a
- 4:21bad one creeping in. You know, I used to think I just
- 4:24remember how things were going. Spoiler alert, I didn't.
- 4:28That's like trusting me to remember where I left my keys
- 4:31for the car. And you trust me, I never, ever
- 4:34remember where they are. And that's why I started jotting
- 4:37down little notes. Nothing fancy, just quick, quick
- 4:40observations when I took my meds, when they kicked in and
- 4:44how long they lasted and how my energy felt.
- 4:48And what I started to see was a rhythm, a pattern that told me
- 4:52more than any single appointment ever could.
- 4:55And I'll tell you a secret, the people who know their patterns
- 4:58are the ones who feel more in control because instead of
- 5:01reacting, they're responding. So if you ever notice something
- 5:06off and thought, hmm, maybe I'm just imagining it, you're
- 5:09probably not. You're just picking up the
- 5:12signals before the professionals do.
- 5:15Honestly, that's power. Now, who wants some power?
- 5:19Who wants some power? Put power in the comments.
- 5:23Now I want to share something from Carmen in what we call
- 5:26Carmen's Care partner Corner. And she wrote this for all the
- 5:30care partners out there. And she said we don't always
- 5:34notice the big moments. It's the little things, the way
- 5:39you move a bit slower, the pause before standing and the extra
- 5:42sigh when you sit back down. At first I used to think maybe
- 5:46it's nothing. I didn't want to nag.
- 5:49I didn't want him to feel watched, but now I realize those
- 5:52little things are often the first signs that something's
- 5:55changing. So my tip for care partners, pay
- 5:58attention, but with kindness. Ask, don't assume, offer, don't
- 6:04override. And if you're a care partner
- 6:07watching this, I want you to comment, hashtag, I'm seeing
- 6:11you. Hashtag, I'm seeing you down
- 6:14below. Because that's what this is all
- 6:16about, seeing each other, not just the symptoms.
- 6:21I love that. That's Garmin in a nutshell.
- 6:23Practical kind, to the point, but always reminding us that
- 6:27this is a shared journey. Now, if you made it this far,
- 6:30you're probably realizing this isn't really a video about
- 6:32symptoms. It's about awareness.
- 6:34It's about being tuned into your body, your relationships, and
- 6:38your patterns. So here are a few things that
- 6:40you can do starting today to stay ahead of your own
- 6:44Parkinson's curve. Number one, notice patterns, not
- 6:48moments. A single off day doesn't mean
- 6:51your meds are failing or your disease is progressing.
- 6:54But three days in a row? Now that's start.
- 6:57That's worth starting to pay attention to.
- 6:59For me, I noticed stiffness showing up earlier in the
- 7:01morning. Instead of panicking, I wrote it
- 7:03down and when I mentioned it to my neurologist, we adjusted my
- 7:07timing slightly and guess what? My mornings improved.
- 7:11One small note, one big payoff #2 loop in your care partner.
- 7:18See. They see things that you miss,
- 7:21and sometimes they see things that you don't want to admit.
- 7:24Carmen once noticed I was dragging my right foot before I
- 7:26did. I thought she was just imagining
- 7:28it until I watched a video of myself walking.
- 7:31She was right. She still reminds me of that
- 7:34regularly. Thanks, Carmen.
- 7:36Thanks Parkinson's. Your care partner can be your
- 7:38best feedback loop if you let them in and you have to let them
- 7:41in. OK, now #3 write down or track
- 7:45what's changing. I know it sounds boring, but
- 7:48it's not about data, it's about patterns.
- 7:51Write down when your meds kick in, when you ate, how you slept,
- 7:54how you felt, did you exercise? And after a week, you'll start
- 7:58to see. You'll start seeing things that
- 8:00you could possibly remember otherwise.
- 8:02And that's exactly why I've been working on something behind the
- 8:05scenes that's going to make this so much easier for the entire
- 8:08community. And it's called the Doing Life
- 8:11Today Meds Tracker, a simple, free tool that I'm designing
- 8:15specifically for people with Parkinson's.
- 8:17I'm building it because I want it to connect the dots between
- 8:20timing, between symptoms, between meals and how I feel
- 8:25now. It's coming soon.
- 8:26And trust me, it's going to be change the game.
- 8:28So make sure you're you're subscribed so you don't miss the
- 8:31launch next week. And here's what I want you to
- 8:34remember. Your doctor might treat
- 8:36Parkinson's, but you live it. You live it every day, every
- 8:40hour. That means you often see the
- 8:43changes first. Don't ignore them, don't
- 8:45downplay them. Notice them, write them down,
- 8:49talk about them. Now, if this resonated with you,
- 8:53drop a comment below and tell me this.
- 8:55What's one thing that you've noticed lately that others might
- 8:57have missed? Because the more we share, the
- 9:01more we learn and the less, the less this disease gets to
- 9:04surprise us. Now, if you haven't already, you
- 9:10might consider joining the inner circle for deeper conversations
- 9:12and support. It's something that is just
- 9:15incredible to me. It's a, it's a community, it's
- 9:18growing, it's exploding. And inside they're going deeper.
- 9:21They're they're keeping each other accountable and there's
- 9:23some really cool stuff happening.
- 9:25And if you're new to Parkinson's, you're newly
- 9:27diagnosed or just ready to get going on your journey here and
- 9:30Start learning some stuff. Boot camp starting soon.
- 9:33Check out the links in all the descriptions for both.
- 9:35I will tell you there is only 9 seats left for boot camp.
- 9:38So don't miss it. And if you haven't already
- 9:40subscribed because we've got some big things coming and guess
- 9:44what, we've unlocked today's price system with Parkinson's,
- 9:50your body whispers before it shouts.
- 9:53The trick is learning to listen. There you go.
- 9:58It's just for you. I know what you're thinking.
- 10:00It's for everybody. No, it's not.
- 10:02That was just for you. And I need you to remember this.
- 10:05Until next time. I want you to keep showing up.
- 10:07I want you to keep noticing. I want you to keep tracking.
- 10:10And I want you to keep doing life today.
