- 0:00Speaker 1: Back on the Yukon Football Coaches Show. The Blazers of
- 0:03Speaker 1: UAB rejuvenated after upsetting Number twenty two Memphis a couple
- 0:06Speaker 1: weeks ago.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Come to the rent.
- 0:08Speaker 1: We'll have the hard Auto group countdown to kick off.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Then Wayne Norman, Adam Jardino, myself, the Yukon Sports Network
- 0:14Speaker 1: Barsitye Network app in varsityenetwork dot com. Bob Joyce does
- 0:17Speaker 1: the pregame. Bob was on the call at Boston College coach.
- 0:20Speaker 1: I was at a wedding for my son. I listened
- 0:22Speaker 1: to a lot of the game, almost all of it
- 0:25Speaker 1: on the Varsity Network app. So tell your friends around
- 0:28Speaker 1: the country. And I know you got friends in California
- 0:31Speaker 1: and you Tall and everywhere else Idaho, uh Varsity Network app.
- 0:35Speaker 1: That's the best way to listen to us. I think
- 0:36Speaker 1: if you're in another part of the country.
- 0:39Speaker 3: I feel like since Mike was on the call when
- 0:43Speaker 3: we beat BC, it might be good if Mike was Bob.
- 0:47Speaker 3: I'm sorry, Bob was on the call again. Maybe you
- 0:49Speaker 3: could go to another wedding.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Okay, I opened the door and you walked right through it.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Thank you you opened it. I had You're.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Right, Okay, UAB right they fired Trent Dilford, and they
- 1:02Speaker 1: elevate one of their assistants, Alex Mortenson, and they win
- 1:05Speaker 1: a game right away against the ranked team. I mean
- 1:09Speaker 1: that got my attention. I got to say. I don't know,
- 1:12Speaker 1: maybe it was dumb luck. They were at home. They
- 1:14Speaker 1: played well. I mean, this team is going to come
- 1:17Speaker 1: in here.
- 1:18Speaker 2: I think.
- 1:18Speaker 1: I use the word rejuvenated, don't.
- 1:20Speaker 2: You think, I think? But I don't know. I mean
- 1:24Speaker 2: I would assume.
- 1:24Speaker 3: And they had a big win and they had to
- 1:26Speaker 3: buy they have a new coach, they're playing for. We
- 1:30Speaker 3: expect them to come in here guns blazing. So the
- 1:33Speaker 3: most important thing we can do is just make sure
- 1:35Speaker 3: that we're ready to play and not worry too much
- 1:37Speaker 3: about their psyche, but anticipate that we're going to get
- 1:40Speaker 3: their very very best.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Right that's the case. Their wide receiver iverson Hooks, great
- 1:46Speaker 1: football name, eleven catches in that Memphis game, scored three touchdowns.
- 1:51Speaker 1: So I'm thinking, your cornerbacks, your defensive back room is
- 1:54Speaker 1: really studying this guy.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Yea, these are really good players. Explosive, he's fast, he's
- 1:59Speaker 3: got great and they find ways to get him open.
- 2:02Speaker 3: They move him around. He's a good returner as well.
- 2:05Speaker 3: So I mean they listen. They've got a lot of
- 2:07Speaker 3: talent on that team. You look all over their field
- 2:09Speaker 3: with it from their offensive line, their defensive line, their linebackers,
- 2:12Speaker 3: are running backs, tight ends, quarterback, it doesn't matter what
- 2:15Speaker 3: position you're looking at.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Their skilled, skilled football players.
- 2:19Speaker 1: They have a couple of guys. Well, let's go to
- 2:23Speaker 1: their quarterback for a second. Jalen Kitten had been their
- 2:25Speaker 1: guys first six games, ten touchdown passes, and then they
- 2:30Speaker 1: flip it over to Ryder Burton and he goes twenty
- 2:33Speaker 1: for twenty seven and throws three touchdowns. So obviously they
- 2:36Speaker 1: got some depth at the quarterback position.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Yeah, they've got good players there, and we don't know
- 2:41Speaker 3: who's gonna play, you know, because we know they're both
- 2:43Speaker 3: really good players, and Kitten had been very, very successful.
- 2:46Speaker 3: They both have tremendous accuracy. They're both you know, throwing
- 2:51Speaker 3: over really about right a bound seventy percent or even better.
- 2:57Speaker 3: So we don't know who's gonna play at that position,
- 2:59Speaker 3: and I'm not sure that they'll change their scheme dependent
- 3:02Speaker 3: upon who's playing. So the most important thing we can do,
- 3:04Speaker 3: since we don't know who the quarterback is going to
- 3:06Speaker 3: be is just prepare for their scheme and prepare to
- 3:09Speaker 3: do what we do to the best of our ability.
- 3:12Speaker 3: And then whoever shows up on Saturday as the quarterback,
- 3:16Speaker 3: you know, adjust as we need to and go out
- 3:18Speaker 3: and play good football against him.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Yeah, they were able to hit some big ones against
- 3:23Speaker 1: Memphis Solomon BB. They're running back eighty one yard touchdown run.
- 3:27Speaker 1: That's the longest in UAB history. So offensively, they look
- 3:32Speaker 1: like they're going to be dangerous. Well when you look
- 3:34Speaker 1: at them defensively, if you've had a chance to kind
- 3:36Speaker 1: of get a look at what they're up to, what
- 3:39Speaker 1: do you see?
- 3:39Speaker 2: I see talent.
- 3:41Speaker 3: You know, they're very talented. They're big, they're physical, they're
- 3:44Speaker 3: explosive upfront. They've got linebackers that can run to the ball.
- 3:47Speaker 3: They got corners they can cover, safeties that come downhill
- 3:51Speaker 3: and will strike you. And they're getting zone. They mix
- 3:53Speaker 3: it up well in terms of their looks and their
- 3:56Speaker 3: coverages and their pressures. They play with a lot of confidence.
- 3:59Speaker 3: You see speed all over the field. And uh, you know,
- 4:04Speaker 3: like I said, I mean, they're just they're a good
- 4:06Speaker 3: football team, very good football team, and they've got momentum.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Yeah, they their cornerback Pierre Royster's got a couple of interceptions.
- 4:12Speaker 1: He had a big one in the Memphis game at
- 4:14Speaker 1: the one yard line to stop a touchdown attempt to
- 4:17Speaker 1: so Ball hawking secondary guys. I mean they got to
- 4:21Speaker 1: their there. Obviously you've mentioned their talent, but they must
- 4:25Speaker 1: be good at what they do too.
- 4:27Speaker 2: They are.
- 4:27Speaker 3: I mean they're they're and when I say talent, I
- 4:29Speaker 3: mean they're good at what they do. I mean you're
- 4:31Speaker 3: talking about a lot of these kids are from South.
- 4:34Speaker 3: You know, we're playing a team from from Alabama and uh,
- 4:38Speaker 3: you know, there's a lot of good football.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Players down south.
- 4:41Speaker 3: So we just, like I said, we're going to prepare
- 4:44Speaker 3: as hard as we can, know them as well as
- 4:46Speaker 3: we can, but then we have to go out and
- 4:47Speaker 3: just execute to the best bar ability on Saturday. Do
- 4:50Speaker 3: a great job of communicating on defense, communicating on offense, executing,
- 4:55Speaker 3: you know, with consistency, playing hard, and hopefully creating some
- 4:59Speaker 3: break for ourselves.
- 5:01Speaker 1: All right, coach, the Huskies and the Blazers trying to
- 5:05Speaker 1: get back on the winning track. We appreciate your time.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Have a good week this week of practice, and we'll
- 5:10Speaker 1: talk to you later on this week.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Okay, Mike, you guys take care all right, thanks to
- 5:15Speaker 2: Jim Moore. Back in a moment.
- 5:17Speaker 1: We'll hear from Victor Rosa and Alex Honick the tight
- 5:20Speaker 1: end as we continue on the Yukon Football Coaches Show
- 5:22Speaker 1: here on Learfield.
