- 0:02Speaker 1: Some of the content of Patriots Unfiltered may not be
- 0:05Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. The World's
- 0:10Speaker 1: of Vigion welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. Paul is in a
- 0:21Speaker 1: particularly foul mood today. A lot of the reason why
- 0:24Speaker 1: is because the Bills lost and a lot of Pats
- 0:26Speaker 1: fans are gleeful. Hates it when Patriots fans are happy,
- 0:29Speaker 1: or will they start tearing things down? Now, what is
- 0:32Speaker 1: you tearing down? You picked the guy that ran the
- 0:34Speaker 1: fastest forty like, that's the homework that you did. Was
- 0:37Speaker 1: that Evan's gonna be fun on the rash way. We
- 0:41Speaker 1: found a way almost, Yeah, We found to say, aduced
- 0:44Speaker 1: this would be an appropriate time for micosows sneaky negativity
- 0:49Speaker 1: in the game. We found a way to almost have
- 0:52Speaker 1: a chance, yeah, to be competitive. And they thought they
- 0:55Speaker 1: were going to be the Patriots. They're never going to
- 0:57Speaker 1: be there. This was their window bold statement there. They're
- 0:59Speaker 1: never going to go to the super Bowl nine times
- 1:01Speaker 1: in twenty years. If I do listen, I listen to
- 1:03Speaker 1: what they say. You know, and to me, you know
- 1:06Speaker 1: there are some that are better. You You have to
- 1:08Speaker 1: you need someone to tell you what's going on? Oh,
- 1:13Speaker 1: this is Patriots Unfiltered fueled by Duncan. All right, welcome
- 1:19Speaker 1: to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Thursday here at Gillette Stadium,
- 1:24Speaker 1: and uh, big crew of content people for us left
- 1:28Speaker 1: this morning early this morning, six thirty wheels up on
- 1:32Speaker 1: their way to Las Vegas to get ready for the
- 1:35Speaker 1: Shrine Bowl. So coming up, we'll have a lot of
- 1:38Speaker 1: content coming from there. Uh, starting when tomorrow, I guess yeah,
- 1:43Speaker 1: Pice yea, yeah, tomorrow with the a little bit of
- 1:46Speaker 1: a dead day, but yeah, but I'm sure Evan and
- 1:49Speaker 1: Alex should getting after it in Vegas. Alex has never
- 1:51Speaker 1: out there. Catch twenty two twins are out there. I
- 1:54Speaker 1: think it's a catch twenty twosome coming on twosome. Sure, yeah, okay,
- 1:57Speaker 1: all right, but we're here they do in Vegas. Juice
- 2:01Speaker 1: is here, Alex is here, Paul's here, um here, that's
- 2:04Speaker 1: in the bat. We're on video today on YouTube. If
- 2:08Speaker 1: you're you know, listening to us your usual way and
- 2:11Speaker 1: you want to treat you can head on over to
- 2:13Speaker 1: YouTube and watch us on the YouTube. Get a little
- 2:16Speaker 1: eye candy. Yeah, ex maybe one of us, but I
- 2:23Speaker 1: don't know. Oh, you're the best. Um, so it's official. Yeah,
- 2:29Speaker 1: Bill O'Brien, it's official. The Patriots finally made the announcement
- 2:32Speaker 1: official this morning. Uh so yeah, I don't know who
- 2:37Speaker 1: Siri is working now, but um yeah, anyway, uh so, yeah,
- 2:41Speaker 1: so that's that's official. And uh couple coupled with that
- 2:45Speaker 1: announcement was a story in The Herald today Karen Gregian
- 2:49Speaker 1: and uh Andrew Callahan. Yeah, I believe um nothing, you know,
- 2:54Speaker 1: we talked about it. Nothing really that we didn't know.
- 2:57Speaker 1: But it is interesting to see the direct quotes attributing
- 3:01Speaker 1: attributed it to some of the things that we thought
- 3:04Speaker 1: were happening. And also I think is interesting how quickly
- 3:07Speaker 1: it came out after the fact. You know, a lot
- 3:10Speaker 1: of times the stuff, you know, takes a month or
- 3:12Speaker 1: so and then then it comes out. You know, Bob
- 3:15Speaker 1: Holu were writing about the Red Sox and the quote
- 3:17Speaker 1: you know, um but this is not anymore. Yeah, but
- 3:21Speaker 1: but this was pretty quick. Yeah. Um so people tell
- 3:26Speaker 1: to me, it tells me that people couldn't wait to unload. Yeah. See,
- 3:31Speaker 1: I think Alex has it could be and they were
- 3:34Speaker 1: holding it, you think, Well, I think there was an
- 3:37Speaker 1: element of you know, like Kendrick Bourne talking about we
- 3:41Speaker 1: got to change up our schemes. Man that maybe people
- 3:44Speaker 1: had no let's let's talk about this, you know, maybe
- 3:47Speaker 1: you know one of the writers says, you know, let's
- 3:49Speaker 1: you know, when this is over, you know, let's you know,
- 3:51Speaker 1: I can't I can't get into it any further now,
- 3:53Speaker 1: you know, when the season's over, we'll talk about that
- 3:55Speaker 1: kind of stuff. Yeah, the seeds were planted, I think,
- 3:57Speaker 1: yeah throughout the year, and credit to Andrew and Karen
- 4:00Speaker 1: because they were teed up, ready to go, knew what
- 4:02Speaker 1: they wanted to get in. I mean, it's it's it's
- 4:03Speaker 1: everywhere right now. It just never I never really wanted
- 4:07Speaker 1: to believe it was as bad as we kind of
- 4:09Speaker 1: thought it potentially could be based on everything, but it's
- 4:12Speaker 1: It was one of the things that stood out to me.
- 4:15Speaker 1: It wasn't a quote. It was a description about how
- 4:18Speaker 1: everything was a scramble, a mad scramble to get things done,
- 4:22Speaker 1: which is completely one hundred and eighty degree is the
- 4:25Speaker 1: way that place is operated for the last twenty years.
- 4:28Speaker 1: You know, part of their success was the continuity. You know,
- 4:31Speaker 1: you had the the succession plans, you had the people
- 4:35Speaker 1: in place, so every year it was a new year,
- 4:37Speaker 1: but the same system. And now I'm not just talking
- 4:40Speaker 1: about offense. I'm talking about everything, how everything operated, from
- 4:44Speaker 1: the scouting to on up, and that gave you an
- 4:47Speaker 1: advantage every season. And to hear that this year was
- 4:51Speaker 1: a mad scramble told me that. You know, losing Josh
- 4:54Speaker 1: McDaniels was a huge deal, like so much gut done.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Let rephrase that, so much just got done. And this
- 5:04Speaker 1: year it wasn't getting done. And I think a lot
- 5:06Speaker 1: of it was because he was gone, and you had
- 5:09Speaker 1: two guys in high positions on the offense that had
- 5:12Speaker 1: never done it before, and so it was all new
- 5:14Speaker 1: for them too. And there's a lot of things and
- 5:16Speaker 1: we're going to talk about this story and some of
- 5:18Speaker 1: the stuff that is in it, But my biggest takeaway
- 5:22Speaker 1: from Bill is fine. I mean, I think it was
- 5:25Speaker 1: pretty obvious that putting, as Fred said, putting the defensive
- 5:29Speaker 1: guy in charge of the offense was a miscalculation. It
- 5:32Speaker 1: didn't work. But I think the thing that Bill misjudged
- 5:35Speaker 1: the most was how much Josh McDaniels did. Yes exactly.
- 5:41Speaker 1: You know, it's not just about well you can get
- 5:44Speaker 1: you can get a coach to do. Sometimes you know,
- 5:47Speaker 1: it's like that institutional knowledge kind of thing when you
- 5:49Speaker 1: have a guy who has been in a role, you know,
- 5:52Speaker 1: let's say someone who's a co host on a podcast
- 5:55Speaker 1: for twenty three some odd years. There's just a kind
- 5:58Speaker 1: of thing. There were just kind of things that you
- 6:00Speaker 1: know that a new guy comes in and he might have, um,
- 6:04Speaker 1: you know, all the same kind of knowledge of all
- 6:06Speaker 1: the you know, all the stuff going on, but it's
- 6:08Speaker 1: it's it's just different. And I think with Josh McDaniels,
- 6:12Speaker 1: I think the underestimation on Bill's part of just how
- 6:15Speaker 1: much he didn't have to worry about Offen exactly. How
- 6:18Speaker 1: surprising is that though, I just I mean that's and
- 6:20Speaker 1: that my takeaway of everything of just you know, how
- 6:23Speaker 1: could how could Bill miscalculate this badly at this point,
- 6:26Speaker 1: especially where I feel he's in his seventies, Every season
- 6:30Speaker 1: is so valuable, you know, it's it's getting down to
- 6:32Speaker 1: the last handful of seasons at best. How could you
- 6:35Speaker 1: make this big of it? Well, you know, you take
- 6:37Speaker 1: things for granted, and you know, you I'm sure like
- 6:40Speaker 1: in two thousand and two thousand and one, Bill was
- 6:43Speaker 1: like every you know, every detail he was involved in
- 6:47Speaker 1: and as you go along, you don't have to be
- 6:50Speaker 1: anymore and you kind of lose track of it. And
- 6:53Speaker 1: Josh was in charge of every little detail and then
- 6:56Speaker 1: he leaves, and like Paul said, maybe he didn't realize
- 6:59Speaker 1: how much he actually did, and but you found out quick,
- 7:03Speaker 1: you know, and then it was too late. Along those
- 7:05Speaker 1: same lines, I thought it was really the most eye
- 7:07Speaker 1: opening thing for me was it wasn't even just players questioning.
- 7:10Speaker 1: It was other coaches who say, whether it be Judge
- 7:13Speaker 1: or Patricia, I forget who it was about. In this
- 7:15Speaker 1: particular part would come in try to teach something, and
- 7:18Speaker 1: then that position coach would be like correcting everything. Judge
- 7:22Speaker 1: was dabbling in some other stuff too, and I mean
- 7:25Speaker 1: he comes out looking like he didn't, you know, have
- 7:27Speaker 1: a great well. Yeah, all season it was Patricia, Patricia, Patricia,
- 7:33Speaker 1: but in this article Judge was, you know, having problems too. Yeah,
- 7:38Speaker 1: it was mostly Judge in this story. Yeah. The other
- 7:41Speaker 1: thing I just I wanted to highlight because it was
- 7:43Speaker 1: the exact point I made on Tuesday's show, kind of speculating.
- 7:46Speaker 1: I mean, I'll read the quote. A lot of guys
- 7:47Speaker 1: would ask, well, what's going to happen if the defense
- 7:49Speaker 1: does this, and you would see they didn't really they
- 7:51Speaker 1: hadn't really accounted for that yet, one source said. And
- 7:53Speaker 1: they'd say, well, we'll get to that when we get
- 7:56Speaker 1: to that. That type of attitude got us in trouble,
- 7:58Speaker 1: is exactly, you know what. That's what it looked like. Yeah, like,
- 8:01Speaker 1: you know, they just they had no counterpunches and and
- 8:03Speaker 1: and we said it so many times during the season.
- 8:05Speaker 1: It just felt like they were kind of pulling plays
- 8:07Speaker 1: out of a hat and nothing was sequenced, nothing worked
- 8:10Speaker 1: off of each other, and you know, just everything you
- 8:12Speaker 1: kind of felt or thought and this is and it's
- 8:14Speaker 1: everything that you guys have been saying. And like, you know,
- 8:17Speaker 1: why with new guys are you putting in a new offense,
- 8:21Speaker 1: especially when the new guys have never coached not only
- 8:25Speaker 1: that system, but offense at all. Like that's a bad
- 8:27Speaker 1: time to be making a lot of big changes. Yeah,
- 8:30Speaker 1: I totally agree with that, and we did talk about it, um,
- 8:33Speaker 1: but it just when when you go back and you
- 8:37Speaker 1: think throughout the summer when we were talking, we were
- 8:39Speaker 1: doing our you know, the first four days we do
- 8:41Speaker 1: live shows, the entirety of practice, and we're sitting there
- 8:44Speaker 1: and we're watching and the five of us were looking
- 8:46Speaker 1: at each other, you know, the four of us and
- 8:47Speaker 1: Evan look right, and we're like, this just doesn't look right.
- 8:50Speaker 1: This is this is just a train wreck, you know,
- 8:52Speaker 1: And and then it's you know, it inevitably starts and
- 8:55Speaker 1: I get it because you know, we're we're Patriots dot Com.
- 8:58Speaker 1: We're you know, we're catering to hardcore Patriots fans, and
- 9:01Speaker 1: everybody's like, it can't be that bad. I can't be
- 9:04Speaker 1: that bad. They'll get it, you know, they'll figure this out.
- 9:07Speaker 1: And I just like, right here, you know, right at
- 9:09Speaker 1: the top of the story. Seeds of dysfunction were planted
- 9:12Speaker 1: in the spring and summer, around the time Jones told
- 9:15Speaker 1: the media he would teach his new quarterback coach, Joe Judge,
- 9:18Speaker 1: the first of multiple comments he made that would irk
- 9:22Speaker 1: the staff, and I think, you know, months later members
- 9:26Speaker 1: of the organization, since Belichick's offensive staff suffered from the
- 9:29Speaker 1: same lack of cohesion players with display on Sundays, soon
- 9:32Speaker 1: enough they knew they were all right, this is what
- 9:35Speaker 1: you know, this is what we talked about all training camp.
- 9:38Speaker 1: That paragraph sums up every like you watch mac in
- 9:43Speaker 1: in this press conference. Is after you know what, did
- 9:45Speaker 1: he maybe two, three, four times during training camp? He
- 9:48Speaker 1: speaks right every time. The frustration dripped from every word.
- 9:53Speaker 1: We know, the famous one and they get to that
- 9:55Speaker 1: one later about David Andrews and his blow up on
- 9:58Speaker 1: the field and his frustration. It was a combination to
- 10:02Speaker 1: me of a plan that wasn't well thought out and
- 10:06Speaker 1: an absolute refusal on the part of the players to
- 10:08Speaker 1: accept the plan. And I think that conspire. I don't
- 10:11Speaker 1: think it would have been just there's a lot of
- 10:13Speaker 1: teams that aren't overly well coached that find a way
- 10:16Speaker 1: to be functional. This was dysfunctional from the start because
- 10:20Speaker 1: the players didn't want it, and they didn't want it,
- 10:22Speaker 1: and the people who were teaching it didn't have the
- 10:24Speaker 1: credibility correct, right. You know, It's like if Bill O'Brien
- 10:28Speaker 1: was teaching it or someone who's but they would have
- 10:31Speaker 1: wanted it, then they would maybe even if they didn't,
- 10:34Speaker 1: they'd be like, well, he knows what he's talking about,
- 10:36Speaker 1: so let's give him a chance. Let's give this a shot,
- 10:40Speaker 1: you know, for now. But I think, like that article said,
- 10:43Speaker 1: right from the get go, there were issues and so
- 10:46Speaker 1: you know, and I think part of this is on
- 10:48Speaker 1: Mac like, you know, do you remember when we would
- 10:51Speaker 1: talk about those things that he said, you know, I
- 10:53Speaker 1: want to be coached harder, and they became punchlines, and
- 10:56Speaker 1: I said, I wouldn't like to be hearing this stuff
- 10:58Speaker 1: of how we're Bill Belichick. And then you sort of wonder,
- 11:01Speaker 1: why is Bill Belichick not publicly backing Mac Jones. This
- 11:04Speaker 1: is why, like I think this, this story does not
- 11:07Speaker 1: pay in a positive right. If on everything offensive, if
- 11:11Speaker 1: kept his comments to private and you know, still told Bill,
- 11:16Speaker 1: but not gone public, I bet you Bill would have
- 11:18Speaker 1: backed him up in public more. And it's not it's
- 11:21Speaker 1: not about right or wrong, because we can all sit
- 11:23Speaker 1: there and say, well, he was right, he was right,
- 11:26Speaker 1: I get it. According to this, I get it. They
- 11:28Speaker 1: weren't well coached. Yeah, doesn't mean he was right. Right, Well,
- 11:31Speaker 1: I could handle it better, you know, And it's a
- 11:34Speaker 1: way to handle it. Yeah. Yeah, And it's I mean
- 11:36Speaker 1: as a second year quarterback. Yeah, well, it's just I mean,
- 11:38Speaker 1: it makes you happy that that you have Bill O'Brien,
- 11:41Speaker 1: who I think everybody thinks has the temperament and the
- 11:43Speaker 1: knowledge and the experience to walk back into that room
- 11:46Speaker 1: and have the players hopefully say, okay, let's just flush
- 11:50Speaker 1: twenty twenty two's offense down the drain. This is the
- 11:52Speaker 1: Bill O'Brien offense. But again at the same point I
- 11:54Speaker 1: brought at the beginning of the last show. It's just
- 11:56Speaker 1: frustrating that like it started bad, it got worse. There
- 12:00Speaker 1: was no changes that could be made. I mean, we
- 12:02Speaker 1: watched five months of football. No, I know that went now.
- 12:05Speaker 1: It was kind of a lost season. And you know, like, listen,
- 12:08Speaker 1: I'll take I'll take responsibility. Uh, and ultimately it's my
- 12:12Speaker 1: Like I thought it was gonna be okay, I'm not
- 12:16Speaker 1: going to kill you for it. You had two former
- 12:18Speaker 1: head coaches, and but I was dead wrong. And you know,
- 12:21Speaker 1: I think Bill was trying to think out of the
- 12:24Speaker 1: box and he was dead wrong. You know. Yeah, And
- 12:27Speaker 1: I'm gonna back you. And that's if I make cheap
- 12:29Speaker 1: shots that you were about that, I want you to pay.
- 12:31Speaker 1: I want you to call me out because I don't
- 12:33Speaker 1: play own it no, because I think that you were
- 12:35Speaker 1: you were just trying to be one of the few
- 12:38Speaker 1: guys that was going to look at it from the
- 12:40Speaker 1: other So I wasn't doing that just to be no,
- 12:42Speaker 1: but I don't think I genuinely thought this could work out.
- 12:45Speaker 1: I genuinely think that you felt like it was strange
- 12:48Speaker 1: right from the start, and you were just trying. You
- 12:50Speaker 1: were thinking out of the box, you know, like, yes,
- 12:52Speaker 1: it wasn't it wasn't a straight line to the goal.
- 12:56Speaker 1: It was, you know, a long way to Grandma's house.
- 12:58Speaker 1: But I genuinely thought, these guys have now been head
- 13:02Speaker 1: coaches in this league, and that's valuable experience. It's you know,
- 13:05Speaker 1: you can't duplicate that expect you did keep saying and
- 13:08Speaker 1: I told right, but right, but and I you know,
- 13:12Speaker 1: but you know, there's like there's a saying, you know,
- 13:15Speaker 1: if you're a good coach, you're a good coach. And
- 13:16Speaker 1: I still believe that, Like if you're a good position
- 13:19Speaker 1: coach and you know the game, I think you can
- 13:21Speaker 1: coach any position. But where I was wrong is being
- 13:24Speaker 1: an offensive coordinator or even just a play caller is
- 13:27Speaker 1: not coaching. That's not coaching. You know, that's more of
- 13:31Speaker 1: an art. You know, it's more of a you know,
- 13:34Speaker 1: knowing how to do it. It's not coaching offensive lineman. Yeah,
- 13:38Speaker 1: it's different technique. It's more about big picture macro offense,
- 13:43Speaker 1: what plays to coaching is teaching. Yea calling plays is
- 13:46Speaker 1: not teaching. That's even teaching. I think there's different skill
- 13:50Speaker 1: sets and falls, Like a wide receiver isn't necessarily the
- 13:53Speaker 1: guy I want coaching defensive one. Fair enough, fair enough? Yeah,
- 13:56Speaker 1: but I but I still generally get your point though, Fred,
- 13:58Speaker 1: I mean, it's you know, coach a position, teaching techniques,
- 14:02Speaker 1: those kind of things. It certainly helps when the coaches
- 14:04Speaker 1: coming from a system that they know inside and out,
- 14:06Speaker 1: and you know, someone like Dante Scarnekie who had been
- 14:09Speaker 1: here for twenty years, has the ability probably to talk
- 14:12Speaker 1: to just about any position at least on offense and
- 14:14Speaker 1: tell them what they're supposed to be doing on a
- 14:15Speaker 1: given play. And that's like what this staff didn't have.
- 14:19Speaker 1: And it's just amazing to me reading this because it's
- 14:22Speaker 1: everything you kind of thought. But then it started as
- 14:24Speaker 1: bad as we kind of speculated it might be, and
- 14:27Speaker 1: it got worse. And you know, as much as you
- 14:29Speaker 1: sat through all those press conferences of like, oh, we're
- 14:31Speaker 1: working at it, we'll get it, like you know now,
- 14:33Speaker 1: it's just it just reframes kind of this season for
- 14:35Speaker 1: me as as man. It must have been really, really
- 14:38Speaker 1: tough for a lot of those guys. And I mean,
- 14:40Speaker 1: I know that people made mistakes on the coaching staff,
- 14:42Speaker 1: and people made players made mistakes and how they handled it,
- 14:45Speaker 1: but just how hard it must be to deal with it,
- 14:47Speaker 1: and and everything that we were talking about was true,
- 14:49Speaker 1: you know, all those things. It almost makes it impressive
- 14:52Speaker 1: that it didn't come out sooner because it's the same
- 14:55Speaker 1: narrative we've been talking about. Since they hear what's going on.
- 15:00Speaker 1: I think it did. It came out summer. This is,
- 15:04Speaker 1: like I said, this was the basic topic of conversation
- 15:08Speaker 1: that we had on July twenty nine. That's what I'm saying.
- 15:12Speaker 1: And then the players have to hear all that and
- 15:15Speaker 1: just publicly face us and be like what no, no no, no,
- 15:17Speaker 1: I'm saying. What the players were saying was our topic
- 15:21Speaker 1: of conversation. They were telling you they didn't think this
- 15:23Speaker 1: was going to work, and we talked about it, and
- 15:25Speaker 1: everybody said, what are you talking about? You know, he
- 15:28Speaker 1: just wants to be coached harder. That's a rocket shot
- 15:31Speaker 1: at his coaches. We said it at the time. Yeah,
- 15:34Speaker 1: it was yeah, uh, And you know, so it's all
- 15:38Speaker 1: out there. Bill O'Brien's hired, but the job's not over,
- 15:41Speaker 1: you know, in terms of rebuilding the confidence and faith
- 15:46Speaker 1: of this team. The job's not over with just hiring
- 15:49Speaker 1: Bill O'Brien. And I'm looking at Bill Belichick. He's got
- 15:54Speaker 1: a lot of work to do to now kind of
- 15:56Speaker 1: restore the confidence in the system with the team. You know,
- 15:59Speaker 1: it's not Bill O'Brien taking over the offense. It's Bill
- 16:02Speaker 1: saying Okay, that didn't work and publicly saying that to
- 16:05Speaker 1: the team, not not us. He doesn't have to say
- 16:07Speaker 1: it to the media. I'm talking about to the players,
- 16:09Speaker 1: like I screwed up. Yeah, I screwed up. But we're
- 16:14Speaker 1: gonna get better. It's gonna be good, you know. So
- 16:17Speaker 1: he's got to do that. I mean, I'm hoping that
- 16:19Speaker 1: that conversation happened with Matt because I think that that's
- 16:22Speaker 1: probably the first bridge that has to I don't know
- 16:24Speaker 1: if it could be mended, but at least can establish
- 16:26Speaker 1: some level of confidence that things are going to be,
- 16:29Speaker 1: you know, different. But after reading this, it's just it
- 16:32Speaker 1: makes me wonder a little bit more about you know,
- 16:34Speaker 1: where is Matt Patricia with the Shrine Bowl And you
- 16:36Speaker 1: know he's not on that list. You know, I think
- 16:38Speaker 1: there was a report today from Ian Rappaport that Joe
- 16:40Speaker 1: Judge was headed to the Shrine Bowl. Yeah, I saw
- 16:42Speaker 1: that and I retweeted it. Remember that's a networking thing too.
- 16:45Speaker 1: I retweeted that without comment. I'm not so sure after
- 16:48Speaker 1: reading this, I'm not so sure. I mean, maybe he
- 16:51Speaker 1: is there, but I'm not positive. It was interesting how
- 16:53Speaker 1: Ian Rappaport came out with it, really right after this
- 16:56Speaker 1: Callahan and Greigian story was getting like all the traction, Like,
- 17:00Speaker 1: I don't know, I wonder why. I just I mean,
- 17:02Speaker 1: I didn't think I no matter how bad it went
- 17:04Speaker 1: last year, I never really believed up until today that
- 17:07Speaker 1: either one of those guys would get moved out because
- 17:10Speaker 1: I think they still would have value in some aspect
- 17:12Speaker 1: of the organization in Bill Belichick's eyes, And at this moment,
- 17:15Speaker 1: like I'm not I'm not so sure what happens next
- 17:17Speaker 1: Bill Belichick or even Robert Craft. I hold no grudges
- 17:21Speaker 1: against Joe Judge or Matt Patrician. I go back to
- 17:24Speaker 1: this like they were just trying to do the best
- 17:26Speaker 1: job they could, so there's I think there's nothing that
- 17:30Speaker 1: the team should be holding against based on this story.
- 17:33Speaker 1: It's a little something I hold against Joe Judge. Maybe
- 17:36Speaker 1: he's got a temper, but that's how he is. Well.
- 17:38Speaker 1: But he's coaching other Okay, he's the quarterbacks coach. Why
- 17:41Speaker 1: is he getting involved in everything else? I'm sure as
- 17:44Speaker 1: a special team's coordinator he yelled at people too, you know,
- 17:46Speaker 1: so what are you focusing on yelling? But if Joe
- 17:50Speaker 1: Judge wants to go to the Shrine Bowl in network
- 17:53Speaker 1: on our dime, I'm I'm gonna let him. Yeah, get
- 17:56Speaker 1: on the charter, pay for your story. Accuses him of
- 17:59Speaker 1: over stepping okay, not like but not not just telling,
- 18:02Speaker 1: but that happens when things aren't going bad. Everybody wants
- 18:06Speaker 1: to try to fix it, and I don't. Usually you
- 18:08Speaker 1: have guys that know what they're talking about trying to
- 18:10Speaker 1: fix it. But whatever, in terms of the thing that
- 18:13Speaker 1: you're talking about, Duce, like, I'm I'm with you and
- 18:16Speaker 1: Fred and being really surprised if in fact, Matt Patricia
- 18:20Speaker 1: and Joe Judge are gone, but not for the same
- 18:22Speaker 1: reason like I think they should be gone. I'm just
- 18:26Speaker 1: really surprised that Bill wouldn't say all right, like Fred
- 18:29Speaker 1: keeps saying, you did me a solid, you know, all right,
- 18:32Speaker 1: let's let's get you back in a different role. But
- 18:35Speaker 1: I think, but I think the lack of faith and
- 18:39Speaker 1: what those two guys were talking about last year quote
- 18:42Speaker 1: unquote needs to be out of the locker room. I agree,
- 18:45Speaker 1: And I think that's why they're gone. That's like, that's
- 18:47Speaker 1: the part I'm surprised. I kind of agree with Paul,
- 18:49Speaker 1: you know, like, if it was that bad, you guys
- 18:53Speaker 1: gotta go. I'm sorry, you know, and and I'm I'm
- 18:56Speaker 1: gonna do whatever I can to help you get your
- 18:59Speaker 1: next job or whatever you need out. You know, if
- 19:03Speaker 1: someone calls for a reference, it was on me. But
- 19:06Speaker 1: to keep them part of it with all that bad will,
- 19:10Speaker 1: I don't think is in the best interest of the team. Yeah,
- 19:13Speaker 1: that and that, and that's why I think it's happened. Yeah,
- 19:16Speaker 1: if you would ask me a month ago, Yeah, you know, well,
- 19:19Speaker 1: Joe je just take over special teams. Well, matt Patrician
- 19:22Speaker 1: just either be part of the defense or go back
- 19:25Speaker 1: to the Arnie Adams role. Yeah, yeah, that sounds right now,
- 19:28Speaker 1: I'm not so sure that's what I Yeah, and that's
- 19:30Speaker 1: like for me that the Mattie p in the and
- 19:32Speaker 1: the Ernie Adams roll two years ago. Like that's like
- 19:34Speaker 1: a dream job, Like you don't really you have like
- 19:37Speaker 1: no none of the accountability. You're just kind of accountable
- 19:39Speaker 1: to Bill. You're up in this, You're not having an
- 19:41Speaker 1: interview with it. We didn't hear from him for a
- 19:43Speaker 1: whole year. Then he gets thrown into the offensive and
- 19:45Speaker 1: now he might be out when he might have had
- 19:47Speaker 1: a job that like Ernie Adams, like I could have
- 19:49Speaker 1: been coasted into as long as Bill series the guy
- 19:51Speaker 1: up in the booth, no one ever. That's why I
- 19:53Speaker 1: that's why I give him sympathy, you know, Matt Patricia,
- 19:57Speaker 1: you know that's why I I think I'm with you.
- 20:03Speaker 1: I mean, nothing in here really comes off that he
- 20:06Speaker 1: was a dick about it, Like it seems like Joe
- 20:08Speaker 1: Judge was a dick about it, but it doesn't. The
- 20:10Speaker 1: reputation had in like New York too, So it's exactly.
- 20:13Speaker 1: I mean, you know, just remember how when things went
- 20:16Speaker 1: bad in New York is his last couple of press conferences.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Absolutely that contributed to why he finally got the acts, absolutely,
- 20:23Speaker 1: and and that that would have scared the crap out
- 20:25Speaker 1: of me to bring him back. Yeah, like the guy
- 20:27Speaker 1: unraveled especially dealing with the players, like, yeah, exactly, Yeah,
- 20:32Speaker 1: So anyway we move on Bill O'Brien. Uh, I thought
- 20:37Speaker 1: Evan had a good look in his opinion of what
- 20:40Speaker 1: the offense might look like under O'Brien. Yeah. Um, waiting
- 20:44Speaker 1: to get a call about why is he giving away
- 20:46Speaker 1: all our superts? You know, I don't think you'll get that,
- 20:51Speaker 1: but you know it's it's it's gonna be interesting off Yeah,
- 20:56Speaker 1: and what else is I'm excited what else is to come?
- 20:58Speaker 1: Note that speculated clem move hasn't happened, but you know
- 21:01Speaker 1: is does Bill O'Brien have some say now in terms
- 21:03Speaker 1: of other staff members he wants to bring in or hire? Um,
- 21:07Speaker 1: I assume we're hitting the pause button while everybody's in
- 21:09Speaker 1: Vegas for the next week, putting the putting that altogether. Yeah,
- 21:12Speaker 1: I mean I was looking up. Uh. You know the
- 21:14Speaker 1: way NFL coaching contracts usually work, and usually uh they
- 21:20Speaker 1: expire on January thirty first. It's not like the league
- 21:23Speaker 1: year like with players, because they have to get those
- 21:26Speaker 1: done quicker because they have to be in place before
- 21:29Speaker 1: the players start coming in. So January thirty four, it's
- 21:32Speaker 1: a it's a tough time to have to go coach
- 21:36Speaker 1: a college bowl game, you know you? I mean theoretically,
- 21:39Speaker 1: could you could lose the coach in the middle of
- 21:41Speaker 1: next week? Right right right? I'll be going tomorrow. Well
- 21:45Speaker 1: but if you want a guy back, yeah, like you,
- 21:47Speaker 1: I don't know how those guys are in the last
- 21:49Speaker 1: year of their contracts. Yeah, I don't know, you know,
- 21:51Speaker 1: if any I mean, I'm pretty sure based on reports
- 21:53Speaker 1: that Nick Kayley is not Yeah, he's his contract, He's
- 21:59Speaker 1: not there. He's not one of the ones that was
- 22:01Speaker 1: listed as having gone right. So, I mean, like Troy
- 22:05Speaker 1: Brown to me that the question that Mike ass is
- 22:09Speaker 1: the one that I that I have the interest of
- 22:11Speaker 1: contract for life? Can can I have I do an
- 22:17Speaker 1: impression of Fred doing an impression and then it comes
- 22:20Speaker 1: out like Cleveland from many That's the beauty of all
- 22:24Speaker 1: of Fred's impressions is that you do the impression of
- 22:27Speaker 1: Fred at Rush used to have an album. Uh. But
- 22:36Speaker 1: whether or not Bill O'Brien has the say like does
- 22:38Speaker 1: he have any input in? You know? So? I like
- 22:41Speaker 1: I had that as part of like a retweet on
- 22:44Speaker 1: you know, the Adrian clamps up, and some was like, well,
- 22:46Speaker 1: don't you think you went over that idiot, you know,
- 22:49Speaker 1: and is it? Yeah, I do. I'm pretty sure that
- 22:51Speaker 1: they did talk about this. I wasn't in the interview though,
- 22:54Speaker 1: so I don't know what the answer to the question is, Like,
- 22:57Speaker 1: I don't think Bill's O'Brien is gonna be suddenly Wait
- 23:00Speaker 1: a minute, Bill, you said I could hire all my stuff,
- 23:02Speaker 1: Now I can't. I don't think that's going to happen.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Whatever they agreed to, they agreed to, right um. And
- 23:07Speaker 1: I think that one of the reasons why the release
- 23:10Speaker 1: didn't go out till this morning is because they were
- 23:12Speaker 1: working on those details. Could be well quarterback coach too,
- 23:15Speaker 1: probably a little bit. Yeah, yeah, that he's there as well.
- 23:19Speaker 1: And one more thing just to highlight with Nick Kayley,
- 23:21Speaker 1: is your guy Nate Hackett going to the Jets. Some
- 23:24Speaker 1: speculation about him and aa Ron Rogers maybe perhaps a
- 23:28Speaker 1: reunion and the oh my god, Patriots fans heads are
- 23:33Speaker 1: gonna explode. You got Josh Allen, Aaron Rodger, but he stanks,
- 23:37Speaker 1: oh Josh Allen? Oh yeah, forget the windows close went
- 23:41Speaker 1: they went, they they expired, and Tom Brady and Miami expired.
- 23:45Speaker 1: You hit my last one, Tom Brady, Miami. Uh, Patriots aside.
- 23:50Speaker 1: I mean, I just feel like Aaron Rodgers and with
- 23:52Speaker 1: the Jets would just be like must watch TV, like
- 23:55Speaker 1: just all of it, not just the field stuff, but
- 23:57Speaker 1: off the field, the fans, everything in New York and
- 23:59Speaker 1: that Rodgers. I mean, I think you got a little
- 24:01Speaker 1: taste of it, No Eight, when five went there and
- 24:03Speaker 1: you know, all of a sudden they've got I mean
- 24:05Speaker 1: that's the same thing, right they old and Old Green
- 24:06Speaker 1: Baker where Five got in trouble with like the cheerleader
- 24:09Speaker 1: director or something like that and something. It was a reporter,
- 24:13Speaker 1: right Jan Sterger or something like that. No, she worked
- 24:16Speaker 1: for the team. Yeah, she was a team reporter. Yeah,
- 24:18Speaker 1: oh team reporter something like that. Yeah right, yeah, bad
- 24:22Speaker 1: job because I could have been you wele No, no,
- 24:25Speaker 1: never be hard, no athlete rule hard. No, probably probably
- 24:31Speaker 1: a good way to you, like the creative sorts. Um.
- 24:34Speaker 1: I just it's being on the road, it's being I
- 24:38Speaker 1: don't know, oh yeah, yeah, it's harded a pilot didn't
- 24:40Speaker 1: go well, I imagine it any athlete. Yeah, too much temptation,
- 24:46Speaker 1: too much money. Yeah. Yeah, we talked about the strip
- 24:50Speaker 1: club thing. I mean yeah, come on, yeah, anyway, five Pulse,
- 24:55Speaker 1: like we did eighty five. Pats five hundred is a
- 24:58Speaker 1: ticket hot line, web radio Patriots dot com. It's the
- 25:01Speaker 1: email address. What else we got? What else we got? Uh, well,
- 25:06Speaker 1: we're I mean we're a gear enough for the Shrine
- 25:07Speaker 1: Bowl that that's uh yeah, I mean kind of Senior
- 25:11Speaker 1: Bowl the next week. So I've been, uh, Evan, are
- 25:14Speaker 1: you going to Senior Bowl? No? No, it's all broadcasts,
- 25:16Speaker 1: so we we'll have we'll have full access to everything.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Maybe DeMarcus Covington does. But um, I started putting together
- 25:21Speaker 1: a post of just all the guys down there, you know,
- 25:23Speaker 1: guys to kind of watch. But uh as we get
- 25:26Speaker 1: going here on on draft season, so I'm excited. We
- 25:28Speaker 1: got the combine too. We got all the schedule of
- 25:30Speaker 1: those guys. Kind of interesting, Paul. I don't know if
- 25:32Speaker 1: you noticed. They switched up this order this year, so
- 25:35Speaker 1: it's you know, of just what the prospects go. Usually
- 25:38Speaker 1: it was like dbs eventually last Yeah, dbs are going earlier.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Are they going defense first? The old line is the
- 25:45Speaker 1: old line QB, and running backs are going towards the end.
- 25:48Speaker 1: So um yeah, we'll probably probably stay through all of it,
- 25:51Speaker 1: just because we need alignment and then we'll ask last
- 25:54Speaker 1: group to go. So um, yeah, it's all you know,
- 25:57Speaker 1: I'll coming together the next couple of months, we'll really
- 25:58Speaker 1: be uh, we'll be in just getting all that suff
- 26:00Speaker 1: People say, you know, what do you guys do in
- 26:02Speaker 1: the off season, And a lot of times the off
- 26:04Speaker 1: season is is busier than the regular season, and it's
- 26:07Speaker 1: definitely because like it's definitely harder. It might not be busier,
- 26:12Speaker 1: but it's harder because the schedules, well, yes, any moment.
- 26:15Speaker 1: The schedule is such in the regular season that everybody
- 26:19Speaker 1: knows exactly what they need to do when they need
- 26:20Speaker 1: to do it. Get you get into a locker room, thay, Yeah,
- 26:28Speaker 1: I mean that there's always you know, the long weeks
- 26:29Speaker 1: followed by the short weeks and all that stuff. But
- 26:32Speaker 1: in the off season, like I mean, you'll be hard
- 26:35Speaker 1: pressed to be any busier than you will be like
- 26:37Speaker 1: that second week in March and whenever, you know, whenever
- 26:39Speaker 1: the news I think the new league year is like
- 26:41Speaker 1: the fifteenth, you get the two or three day the
- 26:44Speaker 1: two days before that with the tampering period and all
- 26:47Speaker 1: the reports of signings, and then your free agency starts
- 26:50Speaker 1: and trades happen, you know, that's when Hunter Renfro is
- 26:52Speaker 1: going to become a Patriot. By all accounts, you'll be
- 26:56Speaker 1: very about that one. So did you see that Waller
- 26:59Speaker 1: and Renfro? Okay? So well, I think people only have
- 27:04Speaker 1: tied Renfro to the Patriots, though Waller is another Raider supposedly,
- 27:09Speaker 1: I don't know. Evidently Josh McDaniels wants to retool his
- 27:12Speaker 1: roster and get rid of all his good players. So yeah,
- 27:15Speaker 1: that's why I don't understanding what's wrong with Hunter. It
- 27:20Speaker 1: makes no sense to me. But I have a question,
- 27:22Speaker 1: and you know that I come at it and I'm
- 27:25Speaker 1: I'm up front about it. I'm not the biggest Hunter
- 27:27Speaker 1: Renfro fan, right, okay? And you hate the Patriots? Would
- 27:30Speaker 1: you rather have Jacoby Myers or Hunter Renfro? Jacoby Myers?
- 27:34Speaker 1: I would too? Is that stupid? Am I an idiot
- 27:36Speaker 1: for that? No? Because Hunter Renfro had one year in
- 27:39Speaker 1: four years that was better than the last two that
- 27:41Speaker 1: Myers had. Yeah, No, I'd rather have Myers and he's
- 27:46Speaker 1: more expensive. Yeah. Yeah, That's something we didn't mention is
- 27:50Speaker 1: that Jacoby allegedly was playing with a partial Tarrell year. Yeah,
- 27:54Speaker 1: that's that's also in this the nugget and Romandre Stevenson
- 27:57Speaker 1: was more beat up. Yeah, that one, That one we
- 28:01Speaker 1: kind of knew. But what were he gonna do? I mean,
- 28:03Speaker 1: there was it was him and rookies left at the end.
- 28:05Speaker 1: That was all we knew. He was going to get
- 28:07Speaker 1: banked up, right. Yeah. Yeah, it says he played through
- 28:11Speaker 1: a small tier on his knee mid season. That was Myers.
- 28:14Speaker 1: And then so I said, he of Stevenson, he wore
- 28:17Speaker 1: down and he was hurt more than he led on
- 28:20Speaker 1: um and then he you know, the talked about you know,
- 28:23Speaker 1: then this is sort of prefacing the lateral with the Raiders. Yeah,
- 28:27Speaker 1: in Vegas, and it's still teammates and coaches backed Myers
- 28:30Speaker 1: and Stevenson knowing that they had been boxed in the
- 28:32Speaker 1: same impossible position the offense found itself in all year long,
- 28:36Speaker 1: fighting a two front war against a Sunday opponent in
- 28:39Speaker 1: an enemy from within. That's really tough for someone that's
- 28:42Speaker 1: good writing though, to say about Jacoby when he's in
- 28:46Speaker 1: a contract year that come out. Oh, I didn't even
- 28:50Speaker 1: think of it that way. But that's that's a tough
- 28:52Speaker 1: that's a good point. I didn't even think of it
- 28:54Speaker 1: that way way under the bus. Wow, I think it
- 28:58Speaker 1: helps Jacoby. Don't you know it hurts him trying to
- 29:01Speaker 1: get a contract? Why because he's damaged goods. But just
- 29:05Speaker 1: a little tear, that's not a bad I don't know
- 29:07Speaker 1: what that means. But that's a tear. Is it's a
- 29:09Speaker 1: little tent that was nice, that's the opposite. That's see
- 29:17Speaker 1: what I did playing at I know, well, look what
- 29:21Speaker 1: I can do for you, unless it's someone trying to
- 29:23Speaker 1: get him to resign here on a that's what I'm saying,
- 29:25Speaker 1: like that's kind of doing him dirty. I agree with you,
- 29:27Speaker 1: not great, but he's probably going to be in line
- 29:30Speaker 1: for I don't know, twelve thirteen million somewhere in that neighborhood.
- 29:34Speaker 1: And you know a v is over sixteen for for
- 29:39Speaker 1: Renfro and he's got a like a roster bonus that
- 29:42Speaker 1: you do, and it's guaranteed. His salary next year is guaranteed.
- 29:46Speaker 1: I'm just to be honest, I'm over the rest of
- 29:48Speaker 1: the league and free agency. I just wanted draft guys.
- 29:50Speaker 1: I just want to draft guys. I don't need to
- 29:52Speaker 1: mind free agents. But like I have a guy that
- 29:55Speaker 1: I know works in this system. No, I know he
- 29:57Speaker 1: can play in Foxborough and I think he's gonna catch
- 30:00Speaker 1: eighty five bulls, right, So why do I need to
- 30:03Speaker 1: go out and get another guy? Well, I want to
- 30:04Speaker 1: get mcconky. Um. Just to admit that made me laugh.
- 30:10Speaker 1: But speaking of money, UM, me too. Just to hear
- 30:13Speaker 1: you say mc conky over and over again next season.
- 30:16Speaker 1: The Great Dante Scarnecki was on the radio this morning
- 30:20Speaker 1: and how did they get him to come on the radio.
- 30:21Speaker 1: They were talking, they were talking about money and rare
- 30:24Speaker 1: get and Dante was going on about, you know how
- 30:27Speaker 1: the cap limits you blah blah blah, and I gotta
- 30:30Speaker 1: I gotta give credit to one of your guys, Paul
- 30:32Speaker 1: Chris Curtis. He said, Dante, I gotta disagree with you,
- 30:36Speaker 1: and he went on about how you know you can
- 30:39Speaker 1: do things with the cap. Yeah, you know. So it
- 30:42Speaker 1: was good to see, you know, at least at least
- 30:45Speaker 1: a little pushback. Yes, And I'm not saying it's to me,
- 30:48Speaker 1: it's the money is a real thing. Because Dante even
- 30:51Speaker 1: used the word hard cap. It's anything but a hard cap.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Even I'll admit the NHL is really the only hard
- 30:56Speaker 1: cap in sports. Um. But you know when terms of that.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Like when you look at Hunter Renfro, I think it's
- 31:06Speaker 1: I forget exactly the numbers, but it's like a five
- 31:09Speaker 1: million dollar roun. It's it's four in change, you know,
- 31:11Speaker 1: guaranteed his salaries like six and a half guaranteed. Like
- 31:16Speaker 1: that's money, Like forget the cap. That's that that's cash
- 31:21Speaker 1: money that has to go out. And that's what makes
- 31:24Speaker 1: it more difficult. That's what ties up your ability to
- 31:27Speaker 1: get other guys, right, you know, if you wanted to
- 31:30Speaker 1: get you know, if you want to draft a left
- 31:32Speaker 1: tackle for example, Okay, so that's that's a cheap fixed
- 31:36Speaker 1: cost for four years, right, and with the ability to
- 31:41Speaker 1: up him for a fifty year, right, But then you're
- 31:43Speaker 1: probably gonna need another tackle. Well, that costs money. And
- 31:47Speaker 1: the other thing that doesn't get talked about as much,
- 31:50Speaker 1: but it's something that a GM or a head coach
- 31:52Speaker 1: has to deal with, is you're paying that guy that
- 31:54Speaker 1: much from within your locker room, you know, because there
- 31:57Speaker 1: is a pecking order, and if you overpay, hey, a
- 32:00Speaker 1: guy that isn't viewed as worth that money. It it
- 32:04Speaker 1: you know, sends a message in your locker room. So
- 32:07Speaker 1: you have to be careful about your locker room politics
- 32:10Speaker 1: as well. Well. I think Jacobe is a big part
- 32:12Speaker 1: of that. I mean, I think that's you know, I mean,
- 32:14Speaker 1: I agree with everything Paul said in terms of just
- 32:16Speaker 1: the playing, but also, you know, one of max guys,
- 32:19Speaker 1: when we see this article, like how much are they
- 32:22Speaker 1: going to do this offseason to men bridges with Mac?
- 32:25Speaker 1: Or based on Bill and what he said about Mac,
- 32:29Speaker 1: is he not really like is he just going to
- 32:31Speaker 1: kind of do what he did did and expect Mac
- 32:33Speaker 1: to get on board, or will they actively do things
- 32:35Speaker 1: like hey, maybe we would have let Jacobe walk, but
- 32:38Speaker 1: let's maybe extend ourselves a little bit more just to
- 32:40Speaker 1: try to give some reinforcement of guys that we know
- 32:43Speaker 1: Mac likes. I'm just curious what they do with him,
- 32:45Speaker 1: Like how much do they play kate him? How much
- 32:48Speaker 1: do they just because the he can play in this
- 32:50Speaker 1: league and we've all got to play better. Sounds to
- 32:52Speaker 1: me just like you just better get in line. We're
- 32:54Speaker 1: gonna get Bill O'Brien here, and it's going to be better.
- 32:56Speaker 1: But he can't expect us to know, bend over backwards
- 32:58Speaker 1: to try to, you know, make him half be this year.
- 33:00Speaker 1: I don't know it's yeah, interesting what they're going to
- 33:02Speaker 1: do with him this year? YEA, all right, five five
- 33:05Speaker 1: past five hundred eight, take a outline, let's hit the phones.
- 33:09Speaker 1: We'll start with Hugh in Canada. What's up, Hugh? Hey, guys,
- 33:13Speaker 1: can you hear me? Ken, I'm a first time caller.
- 33:19Speaker 1: I've been listening since probably middle of last year. I
- 33:22Speaker 1: just want to see you guys doing a great job.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Thank you. I have two questions. Uh, with the addition
- 33:28Speaker 1: of Bill O'Brien as Guffin's coordinator, do you think this
- 33:31Speaker 1: year is kind of a make it or break a
- 33:33Speaker 1: year for Mac even I think even if it doesn't
- 33:36Speaker 1: have the greatest weapons, we should still see some kind
- 33:39Speaker 1: of flashes from him, like with Justin Fields and Chicago.
- 33:44Speaker 1: And my second question is I was listening to Evan
- 33:46Speaker 1: on T twenty two yesterday. He was saying a big
- 33:50Speaker 1: part of Bill O'Brien's offense is the slot receiver. If
- 33:54Speaker 1: this offseason we can't get a number one guy on
- 33:56Speaker 1: the outside or that number one slot, do you think
- 33:59Speaker 1: the would consider flipping Marcus Stones from cornerback to wide receiver. Yes, all, yeses, Yeah,
- 34:09Speaker 1: I do think if they if they get stuck. And
- 34:11Speaker 1: this is I'm going to give you know, the fattest
- 34:14Speaker 1: of mouths credit here. This is Nandy hartism. He's been
- 34:18Speaker 1: pounding this for a couple of weeks. If you lose Myers,
- 34:23Speaker 1: would would you consider using Marcus Jones more regularly as
- 34:27Speaker 1: your slot receiver? And I would? I think it's I
- 34:30Speaker 1: think it's an option that you definitely need to at
- 34:32Speaker 1: least address, need to look at. I wouldn't. I mean,
- 34:36Speaker 1: I just personally, I feel like he's going to be
- 34:38Speaker 1: too valuable as a returner and as a corner. I
- 34:41Speaker 1: don't think he's all that valuable as a corner. A
- 34:45Speaker 1: lot more valuable if Jonathan Jones and Miles Bryant leaves,
- 34:48Speaker 1: he could be your number one slot next year. Then
- 34:50Speaker 1: you're in trouble. Yeah, I mean, I'm not trying to
- 34:53Speaker 1: be disrespectful, but he's a five eight corner and I
- 34:55Speaker 1: don't know how. I don't know how you survive. They're
- 34:57Speaker 1: already so undersized. There would just say this. I think
- 35:01Speaker 1: that there's some gray area when we talk about a
- 35:03Speaker 1: slot receiver. Are we talking about the third or fourth
- 35:07Speaker 1: receiver on the team that comes out on third and long,
- 35:10Speaker 1: like Danny Amendola did, because I think what they really
- 35:13Speaker 1: need is they don't need that guy as much as
- 35:16Speaker 1: they need like a Julian Edelman, who is not really
- 35:19Speaker 1: a slot receiver. He can play kind of outside inside,
- 35:22Speaker 1: he can do a lot. Somebody, Yes, right, somebody I'm friend,
- 35:26Speaker 1: and so in that regard, like you know, if we're
- 35:28Speaker 1: talking about Marcus Jones as the fourth or fifth receiver
- 35:31Speaker 1: and something, great, I'd be fine with that. But if
- 35:33Speaker 1: we're talking about him as like a every down kind
- 35:37Speaker 1: of like guy like Edelman, like that friend, I don't
- 35:41Speaker 1: want an offense that's revolving around Julian Edelman anymore. I
- 35:44Speaker 1: don't think you can win that way anymore. So if
- 35:47Speaker 1: you have if you have like a I agree with Mike,
- 35:50Speaker 1: if you have a complimentary slot receiver who's money when
- 35:54Speaker 1: I need him. Yeah, that's value. That's what Hunter Renfro
- 35:58Speaker 1: was two years ago for the Raiders, and that's what
- 36:01Speaker 1: Myers has been um periodically in his career. Jalen Waddle,
- 36:05Speaker 1: like I said, Edelman just as a person that was here.
- 36:07Speaker 1: That's not the skill set that I'm emulating. Jalen Waddle
- 36:10Speaker 1: would be because I think some people would call him
- 36:13Speaker 1: a slot receiver. Yeah, I think I agree with you.
- 36:15Speaker 1: That's a slot receiver in the traditional sense. I think
- 36:21Speaker 1: sells him short. I think that now I'm you know
- 36:23Speaker 1: what I mean, that's the gray area I'm trying to
- 36:26Speaker 1: get around because we talk about slot receiver and everybody
- 36:28Speaker 1: just sees Wes Welker and we need a five eight
- 36:30Speaker 1: white guy like you know, and I just don't need
- 36:32Speaker 1: a guy averaging eight point nine yards Kelly and like
- 36:35Speaker 1: and I think that there's a value for and and
- 36:37Speaker 1: that's fine. Is a Marcus Jones guy like yeah, like,
- 36:43Speaker 1: um so you're not going to be very good offensively.
- 36:45Speaker 1: I think it's I think it's a big need. I
- 36:47Speaker 1: would see that more as like if we're going to
- 36:49Speaker 1: draft a first round wide receiver, that's it. That's what
- 36:51Speaker 1: he does. He plays every down, he comes inside. He's
- 36:54Speaker 1: the quick, open guy, you know, but he but he's
- 36:56Speaker 1: a first round talent. He's the like a waddle type
- 36:59Speaker 1: who can take get to the house, you know, who's
- 37:01Speaker 1: a threat like that and not in that family of
- 37:04Speaker 1: you know, this is the guy that comes on if
- 37:05Speaker 1: you're going to give me a wattle or a hill.
- 37:07Speaker 1: Because I think both of those guys are Slottish receivers. Yeah,
- 37:12Speaker 1: that'll take. And we talked about Christian Kirk on Tuesday.
- 37:16Speaker 1: Dynamic playmaking ability from the slot. Yes, i'll take. I
- 37:20Speaker 1: love what those guys did, but I think that a
- 37:23Speaker 1: big part of the Patriots offensive success at that time
- 37:27Speaker 1: was Brady and his ability to throw six of those
- 37:30Speaker 1: on a drive without missing any of them. In to
- 37:34Speaker 1: Fred's point, they're all resulting in first downs. Why because
- 37:38Speaker 1: as soon as the guy broke, the ball's right on
- 37:40Speaker 1: his shoulder, the deep dig to Edelman like that, like that,
- 37:44Speaker 1: I think Brady had a lot to do with ther Yeah,
- 37:48Speaker 1: let's go to Todd in North Carolina. What's up Todd? Hey, guys,
- 37:54Speaker 1: you've covered a lot of what I was curious. All right,
- 37:57Speaker 1: thank you? Yeah, Fred. So I'll get two quick comments
- 38:02Speaker 1: and then a couple of questions and then i'll take
- 38:04Speaker 1: it off. There is starting out with I think I
- 38:07Speaker 1: think Bill did a disservice to both Patricia and Judge.
- 38:10Speaker 1: I don't like Patrician Judge, but I think he puts
- 38:12Speaker 1: them in a no in situation unfortunately, and there just
- 38:15Speaker 1: wasn't the support there and then off the support. I
- 38:18Speaker 1: don't think Bill did a really good job this year
- 38:20Speaker 1: of putting people on a place where they could succeed,
- 38:23Speaker 1: and I think that is across the team everywhere else.
- 38:27Speaker 1: I agree with that that last part wholeheartedly. I think
- 38:31Speaker 1: there's some issues and I think you should have put
- 38:33Speaker 1: Judge and Patrician places they can see. Now. My last
- 38:36Speaker 1: question is, or the final question is do you think
- 38:39Speaker 1: Patrician Judge will be toxic on the team after you
- 38:42Speaker 1: know their history, like the leave Detroit, they leave New York,
- 38:45Speaker 1: both New York and Detroit make the almost make the playoffs,
- 38:48Speaker 1: they do the seasons turns around for them, and the
- 38:51Speaker 1: history here is just horrible from this last year. Do
- 38:54Speaker 1: you keep them? I know, I think I think that.
- 38:57Speaker 1: I'm with Paul. I've changed my mind a little bit
- 38:59Speaker 1: on that. I think I think they have to go.
- 39:01Speaker 1: I think they have to go. Yeah, And I think
- 39:03Speaker 1: that what Mike and I are talking about, what we
- 39:05Speaker 1: talked about the top of the show is I think
- 39:06Speaker 1: that's what they're gonna do. I think that's what it
- 39:08Speaker 1: all signs are pointing to those guys aren't going to
- 39:10Speaker 1: be back. If you read this story and you listen
- 39:13Speaker 1: to the way that Judge has talked about I don't
- 39:15Speaker 1: see him coming back, and we've already seen a report
- 39:18Speaker 1: from Tom cunran about Matt Patricia not coming back. So yeah,
- 39:22Speaker 1: I was if you're asking me what I thought, Yeah,
- 39:24Speaker 1: I thought a month ago, Yeah, they'll be back in
- 39:27Speaker 1: another role, right right. I thought maybe in these All
- 39:30Speaker 1: Star Games would be a chance to reveal where they're
- 39:32Speaker 1: going to end up. Oh, Joe Judge is coaching the
- 39:35Speaker 1: Special Teams again, Like, what a coincident? Is it? But nothing?
- 39:38Speaker 1: I'm with you, Paul, Patty's an agaham, what's up? Patty?
- 39:42Speaker 1: Hey everyone? How's it going today? Good? Hello Patty? That
- 39:47Speaker 1: Hugh Millan on the other line or a different you?
- 39:50Speaker 1: I think, you know, I think it was. I think
- 39:53Speaker 1: it was Hugh Grant. Oh, early nineties flashbacks. So I
- 39:58Speaker 1: just had a couple of question said just thinking about
- 40:00Speaker 1: a rom com Josh Allen on Tuesday and just I'm
- 40:06Speaker 1: kind of with him, were like, let's let's not annoy
- 40:08Speaker 1: anybody until they at least like get there, you know.
- 40:10Speaker 1: And Paul, I don't think he sucks. I think he's
- 40:12Speaker 1: a great guy. Take I would take him over almost
- 40:16Speaker 1: anyone not named Pat Maholmes or maybe Joe Burrow, But
- 40:20Speaker 1: just a couple of quick questions. I wanted to get
- 40:22Speaker 1: your guys opinions on I'm not saying it's a possibility,
- 40:26Speaker 1: but if they were to like trade for a guy
- 40:28Speaker 1: like Jerry Judy, would I just wanted to get to
- 40:30Speaker 1: your guys thoughts on him. I would love him in
- 40:32Speaker 1: this offense because I think he's that kind of first
- 40:34Speaker 1: little guy that he could play inside and outside. And
- 40:38Speaker 1: do you guys think hiring Bill O'Brien will finally hopefully
- 40:42Speaker 1: unlock John and Smith. And that's all I got. I'll
- 40:44Speaker 1: take it up there. Yeah, that's a good question. I know,
- 40:46Speaker 1: I don't hope. So though I think Judy's a guy,
- 40:52Speaker 1: he's one of those veteran receivers that you know, quote
- 40:54Speaker 1: unquote veteran. I know he's still young, but that we've
- 40:56Speaker 1: talked about, you know, maybe you can swoop in and
- 40:59Speaker 1: grab him. Yeah, that would that increase the talent level
- 41:01Speaker 1: in your wide receiver, which again would be an Alabama
- 41:04Speaker 1: move a MAC guy, you know, like a move to
- 41:05Speaker 1: like kind of get somebody for Mac. You know, I
- 41:07Speaker 1: think it would signal more than just that. I'd be
- 41:09Speaker 1: all for it. Um, But my main energy though as
- 41:12Speaker 1: I said, I feel like the draft is is where
- 41:15Speaker 1: they've just eleven picks, I think is what they're going
- 41:17Speaker 1: to have and got a hit on at least a
- 41:19Speaker 1: few of those. Oh you think, yes, I do. Uh,
- 41:23Speaker 1: let's go to uh my guy Tommy's and Lynn who's
- 41:26Speaker 1: an fop. Yes, what's up Tommy? How are you budd
- 41:34Speaker 1: How are you big numbers on our podcast the other night? Tommy?
- 41:38Speaker 1: How are the numbers the other night? I want big numbers.
- 41:41Speaker 1: I expect a little bit more in the paycheck then,
- 41:43Speaker 1: my friend. Yeah, I want to talk about a little
- 41:47Speaker 1: bit about the Patriots aspects coordinator. I like the old Brian.
- 41:52Speaker 1: I like how we's back here. Uh. I want to
- 41:56Speaker 1: see it work. I want to see back to thee
- 41:58Speaker 1: in the third year year, and I want them to
- 42:00Speaker 1: get a top wide receiver, maybe Te Higgins or maybe
- 42:04Speaker 1: Jerry Judy. What do you guys think like it? I
- 42:07Speaker 1: think we're all on board. We're all on board. Oh yeah,
- 42:11Speaker 1: well on Bo and John hous needs to play good
- 42:14Speaker 1: and they need to get a couple of pieces on
- 42:16Speaker 1: a defense and then they could be right there in
- 42:20Speaker 1: the playoffs. Because this, as ye was a big Epics failure.
- 42:24Speaker 1: And you think they should bring Brady back because they
- 42:27Speaker 1: said this on the podcast, and I want to say
- 42:29Speaker 1: it on you. You think Brady will come back to
- 42:31Speaker 1: throw Brian's back, No one, no, no, yeah, I don't
- 42:34Speaker 1: think so, you know, like, and I love Tom Brady,
- 42:36Speaker 1: but I don't think it's you've once kissed him. Yeah,
- 42:39Speaker 1: I don't think it's the most thing to do. All right,
- 42:42Speaker 1: you guys have a great thing. And this is my
- 42:44Speaker 1: first time follow on the show, and I want to
- 42:46Speaker 1: say thanks again Paul for coming on the podcast the band.
- 42:49Speaker 1: All right, thanks Tommy. What's that podcast? What that podcast?
- 42:53Speaker 1: You give him a little plug? Yeah, Tommy, Tommy knows
- 42:57Speaker 1: best podcast. Tommy knows best. Think he has his own
- 43:00Speaker 1: YouTube channel. I'm sure you you you youngsters can find it, Okay,
- 43:04Speaker 1: he's uh the sweet guy, sweet guy, good guy, good kid, Yes,
- 43:08Speaker 1: good kid. Willie's and Philly? What's up? William? Thank what's
- 43:12Speaker 1: going on for it? How are you going? All right? U? Um?
- 43:18Speaker 1: We're oh god, it's it's a shame how the players. Um,
- 43:23Speaker 1: I kind of had a film they were throwing some
- 43:25Speaker 1: way though, you know what I mean, after everything that
- 43:28Speaker 1: went on and how they felt them whatnot. And I
- 43:31Speaker 1: don't blame him, honestly. I'm sorry. I'm going to elevator.
- 43:34Speaker 1: I'm sorry. Okay, where are you going, Tyler? Yeah? Go
- 43:41Speaker 1: in down and um more thanks to Also, Uh, y'all
- 43:46Speaker 1: was talking about, uh, who would you take Jakobe Meyers
- 43:49Speaker 1: or hundre Ring. Yep, we took my arms. I'll say this,
- 43:53Speaker 1: Olay say, okay, due, koreey mine. Well, I'll let y'all
- 43:56Speaker 1: have bit. I'll take Uh, I'll take Jerry Judy and
- 44:00Speaker 1: hate him. Oh, I would take Jerry. Yeah. Yeah, I
- 44:03Speaker 1: would take any day fast shiftier, It's perfect. Yeah. And
- 44:09Speaker 1: Machaelo Jerry ju you know they know each other. So okay,
- 44:13Speaker 1: let's get him. Let's get him. William, all right, thank you,
- 44:16Speaker 1: love it, love it, William. Yeah, I didn't think the
- 44:18Speaker 1: choice was Yeah. I was just talking like, I think
- 44:21Speaker 1: this this fascination with Hunter Renfro because he was in
- 44:25Speaker 1: college at the time, coming off of Welker and then Edelman,
- 44:29Speaker 1: and everybody just looked at as the natural succession plan
- 44:33Speaker 1: and he did too. I remember, I don't know if
- 44:35Speaker 1: it was the year that you were with the first
- 44:37Speaker 1: year you were with me, but he told us a
- 44:39Speaker 1: story that he always felt like he would be a Patriot.
- 44:42Speaker 1: He had like a custom Patriot shirt. But he said
- 44:45Speaker 1: at the combine that he actually used to sign his
- 44:47Speaker 1: autograph Hunter Renfro, future New England Patriot, Hunter Renfro. That's
- 44:53Speaker 1: how he would sign his his autographs. Kind of weird.
- 44:56Speaker 1: It is kind of weird, right, So I'm not telling
- 44:59Speaker 1: you Hunter Renfro is not a good player. He is
- 45:01Speaker 1: a good player. He's a really good player. I just
- 45:04Speaker 1: I think you have a really good receiver here who's
- 45:06Speaker 1: played the last few years, who I think can they coexist? Well,
- 45:12Speaker 1: not for that money. You're gonna tie up all that
- 45:15Speaker 1: money in a slot receiver cap is crap. Paul, I
- 45:18Speaker 1: didn't talk to Did I say anything about you're gonna
- 45:21Speaker 1: tie up all that cap money? Money? I said money. Well,
- 45:23Speaker 1: what's a difference then, if a cash I know that's
- 45:27Speaker 1: the difference. I just think I'd rather if you're gonna
- 45:30Speaker 1: pay that money to those two guys, I'd rather take
- 45:31Speaker 1: it and get one. And I really do think that
- 45:35Speaker 1: the game has changed a little bit in that I
- 45:39Speaker 1: think that's what the defense wants you to do. Now,
- 45:41Speaker 1: just throw the underneath stuff, peck your way down the field,
- 45:45Speaker 1: you're gonna make a mistake before you get there. And
- 45:47Speaker 1: when you don't have Brady, chances are the defense is right.
- 45:51Speaker 1: I think, you know, one of the things that Evans
- 45:53Speaker 1: talked about a lot this year about the too high
- 45:56Speaker 1: look that kept everything underneath. I think that was largely
- 45:59Speaker 1: adapted by a lot of defenses this year with success. Now,
- 46:02Speaker 1: did the offense disappear around the league? No, but it
- 46:05Speaker 1: was down a little bit, right, And when you get it,
- 46:07Speaker 1: when you get a guy like Joe Burrow, he can't
- 46:09Speaker 1: complete all those passes, he can methodically matriculate down the field.
- 46:14Speaker 1: They also have Jamar Chase te Higgins and Tyler Boyd
- 46:18Speaker 1: is the slot recite and just attle different level of
- 46:21Speaker 1: talent that you're dealing with there, right, you know. For
- 46:24Speaker 1: I mean, the Bengals probably have the best receiving group
- 46:27Speaker 1: as a whole in the league. Yeah, to go with
- 46:30Speaker 1: Joe Burrow, I gotta be honest, Like I just I
- 46:33Speaker 1: came out of this weekend not to make it a
- 46:34Speaker 1: Joe Burrow glow up, but like it just it doesn't
- 46:37Speaker 1: even matter, Like like they have great weapons. But I'm
- 46:40Speaker 1: sure that when te Higgins leaves, they're gonna get somebody else,
- 46:42Speaker 1: and he's gonna make that pretty good no matter who
- 46:45Speaker 1: it is. He's that good. And I just and another
- 46:48Speaker 1: kind of conclusion I came to was and I think
- 46:49Speaker 1: I touched on it with you know, Josh Allen the Bills,
- 46:51Speaker 1: and you know, I think they might get a super
- 46:53Speaker 1: Bowl at some point, but I Burrow is going to
- 46:55Speaker 1: be there every fricking year because he's not gonna get
- 46:58Speaker 1: banged up. He's so smart. It's just, you know what
- 47:01Speaker 1: I mean. I mean, that's a big Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes,
- 47:08Speaker 1: who have all these like limb injuries that they're dealing
- 47:10Speaker 1: with throughout the season, tows you know what I mean,
- 47:12Speaker 1: they're running there. You know, Look, those guys are going
- 47:14Speaker 1: to be successful. They'll have a couple of seasons where
- 47:17Speaker 1: they get they're healthy enough, they play well enough in
- 47:19Speaker 1: the three playoff games starts. I just feel like Burrow,
- 47:21Speaker 1: with the way he plays the game like Brady did,
- 47:23Speaker 1: he's gonna be for a long time, you know. And
- 47:26Speaker 1: I'm not saying he's Brady because I don't think that
- 47:28Speaker 1: that's fair. It's not fair to Borrow, but he's I
- 47:31Speaker 1: agree with Mike. I think he's the closest replication of
- 47:34Speaker 1: Brady that's playing right now. I just think for consistent
- 47:37Speaker 1: he's way more athletic in the AFC. And I mean
- 47:39Speaker 1: all due respect to Christmas and Patrick Mahomes, and they
- 47:42Speaker 1: will of course be there, but I mean you're seeing
- 47:44Speaker 1: it this weekend. It's you know, I mean a couple
- 47:45Speaker 1: of years ago he had the knee injury where these
- 47:48Speaker 1: mobile quarterbacks, it's you know, you get that one season, Lamar.
- 47:51Speaker 1: He it all works out, he has an MVP year
- 47:53Speaker 1: and but you know, he still wasn't able to put
- 47:55Speaker 1: it together in the playoffs. It's such a narrow road
- 47:57Speaker 1: with those guys, whether it's injuries and perform moments. They
- 48:00Speaker 1: put so much on themselves. Yeah, Brian writes in he
- 48:05Speaker 1: doesn't say where he's from. Eric wouldn't like that. So
- 48:10Speaker 1: I'm my bucket list to call in and speak to
- 48:12Speaker 1: the crew one day, but this will have to coincide
- 48:15Speaker 1: with the day off work, so he's working today. I
- 48:17Speaker 1: guess I'm excited about the return of Bill O'Brien for
- 48:20Speaker 1: two reasons. For one, I hope, through his guidance, will
- 48:23Speaker 1: see a return of discipline penalty free offensive play. Secondly,
- 48:28Speaker 1: perhaps his time as a college coach will provide the
- 48:30Speaker 1: Patriots with inside knowledge about draft prospects and even unrestricted
- 48:34Speaker 1: free agents to infuse the team with highly effective players.
- 48:40Speaker 1: I like the college part of that. I mean, it's
- 48:42Speaker 1: a guy who spent two full years in the SEC
- 48:46Speaker 1: and probably knows the the personnel in that league now,
- 48:51Speaker 1: probably more so the defensive personnel because that's what he
- 48:55Speaker 1: was going against all the time. But I think that's
- 48:58Speaker 1: a good point. I think he's a guy that should
- 49:00Speaker 1: bring some knowledge to the table. Yeah right, and no, no,
- 49:03Speaker 1: for sure, I'm just laughing because Evan brought it up,
- 49:05Speaker 1: and I feel like Evan's so excited for him to
- 49:07Speaker 1: like do all the things that Evan wants him to do,
- 49:09Speaker 1: and I'm fully like, he's not going to do everything
- 49:11Speaker 1: that ever wants him to do. You know That's I mean,
- 49:13Speaker 1: that'll be fun to watching Evan get upset of like,
- 49:15Speaker 1: why won't he did it in a whole bamm and
- 49:18Speaker 1: he's not doing it now. I'm sure there's gonna be
- 49:19Speaker 1: some of that. I'm just looking at my shows. Zoe
- 49:21Speaker 1: is not wearing shades, he's got regular glasses. One. He
- 49:25Speaker 1: looks like a different person like those nice brothers might
- 49:33Speaker 1: have been joking, joking around, because I think he just
- 49:35Speaker 1: took like Clark ken um Andrew keeps h emailing the
- 49:39Speaker 1: show about using the word like, Well, we'll try not
- 49:42Speaker 1: to do that as much. No, I've been I've been
- 49:45Speaker 1: kind of listening for it. I don't think anyone's done
- 49:47Speaker 1: it so far today. I'm sure I do it. I
- 49:49Speaker 1: need these from time to time so that you're aware
- 49:51Speaker 1: of it. I'm aware of those, and I try not
- 49:54Speaker 1: to do. The Other thing is when you're talking and
- 49:56Speaker 1: you're trying to make a point, you don't always know
- 49:58Speaker 1: exactly what you're going to say, and how do you
- 50:00Speaker 1: whatticulate that point? Like sometimes you need a little bit
- 50:02Speaker 1: of a yeah. But I get it with the like,
- 50:05Speaker 1: I don't like like. I don't think anyone does it.
- 50:08Speaker 1: Like to do we like you know they like I
- 50:12Speaker 1: don't think like so. But we'll take that criticism. No, Yeah, Hey,
- 50:17Speaker 1: welcome um Zack and Zummerville writes in I'm not one
- 50:22Speaker 1: of the people who has Evans said at PEU yesterday
- 50:25Speaker 1: is ready to fit Zave Flowers for a red jacket already.
- 50:28Speaker 1: But he is really interesting candidate for a number of
- 50:30Speaker 1: reasons ability Boston College Shrine Bowl Patriots need. But if
- 50:35Speaker 1: the reports are true that the front office is split
- 50:38Speaker 1: on upgrading receiver talent, I think Zave Flowers is the
- 50:41Speaker 1: second and in the second is a solid compromise. I
- 50:45Speaker 1: would love to see us trade a tackle at four
- 50:48Speaker 1: draft to tackle at fourteen and jump up to the
- 50:50Speaker 1: middle of late thirty like we did for Barmer, or
- 50:53Speaker 1: get Flowers, so I will get it. I've gotten into
- 50:56Speaker 1: the draft a little bit. I just want to sit
- 50:57Speaker 1: and get this out there, that are you sold on
- 51:00Speaker 1: a right tackle in the first round, because that I'm
- 51:03Speaker 1: not sure I am and I'm not sure that there
- 51:05Speaker 1: are that there are going to be left tackles still
- 51:08Speaker 1: left by fourteen, at least not like the Paris Johnson's
- 51:12Speaker 1: of the world. There's a couple of them. But I
- 51:14Speaker 1: don't know. I just I'm I'm dabbling my toe into
- 51:16Speaker 1: the draft, and that's that's a question. I'm asking myself.
- 51:18Speaker 1: Do you need a right tackle that bad in the
- 51:21Speaker 1: first round? Said we're taking a right tackle in the
- 51:23Speaker 1: first round. Um, with the guy from Ohio State on
- 51:26Speaker 1: the right side, was that big boy Paris Johnson. Uh, well,
- 51:28Speaker 1: he's the one that played the left side. Right, isn't
- 51:30Speaker 1: there another? Uh? Oh? Is there another Ohio State? What
- 51:33Speaker 1: about just because I know there was sky Kid from Northwestern,
- 51:36Speaker 1: Paris Johnson from Ohio State, and then there was the
- 51:38Speaker 1: one from Georgia. What about Georgia? Sorry that Brodrick. What
- 51:40Speaker 1: about just taking the best tackle on the board. Yeah,
- 51:43Speaker 1: that's I mean, it's all of them. I'm all for that.
- 51:46Speaker 1: All of them have some questions. I think Paris Johnson,
- 51:48Speaker 1: I mean, I think you only played left tackle one
- 51:49Speaker 1: year there, but you know, a lot of those coming
- 51:52Speaker 1: in and they learned to play like that, like they're
- 51:54Speaker 1: left tackles and they play the right side initially, and
- 51:57Speaker 1: you know, yeah, I'm not telling you specifically, but I
- 51:59Speaker 1: think even some of the greats like Walter Jones or
- 52:02Speaker 1: started out on Jonathan Ogden, you know, and I don't know,
- 52:07Speaker 1: I don't know about those specific guys, but even guys
- 52:09Speaker 1: Orlando Pace, some of those guys are just left tackles
- 52:12Speaker 1: from day one and they never moved. But some of
- 52:13Speaker 1: them play the right side for a year and settle
- 52:16Speaker 1: in for a twelve year dominance on the left side. Yeah,
- 52:18Speaker 1: which I mean, it's just those left tackle gonna be there,
- 52:21Speaker 1: Like that's a slam dunk for me at fourteen, that
- 52:23Speaker 1: there was a prospect that they could step in. I mean,
- 52:26Speaker 1: that's even asking a lot with what Solder goal like
- 52:28Speaker 1: seventeenth and he even had a year kind of a
- 52:31Speaker 1: to to get broken into it. But I don't know,
- 52:33Speaker 1: it's just a draft question I have. All Right, we're
- 52:35Speaker 1: gonna take a break, Paul's gonna eat when we come back.
- 52:37Speaker 1: More sounds, good calls and emails coming up after the break,
- 52:44Speaker 1: and of course picks later on. We gotta hurry. Verizon,

- 1:04:18Speaker 1: five calories, two point six grams of cars. It's only
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: worth it if you enjoy it. And you're responsibly Abe
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: Michelobe Ultra light beer saying Louis Missouri and now great
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: moments in history. I just have no confidence that the
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: Patriots are going to be able to expose any of these,
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: you know, weaknesses you see statistically like red zone like
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: we saw it last week that that was a terrible
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: red zone defense too. It didn't really matter, no it did.
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: We got two red zone touchdowns. Yes, so true. I
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: mean we have to have an intervention. It's never good enough.
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: Josh Uche, I'm tired of getting sad red That was
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: just as funny today as it was Yester. Red zone Well,
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: you know probably you know they did they stopped him.
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: I mean they were able to score twice in the
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: red zone. I mean you don't go from like oh
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: for seven to like five for five, like it usually
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: doesn't work. That week, there was progress last week. They
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: had two red zone touchdowns. Alex telling Kevin he doesn't
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: listen to me. Kevin broke like six tackles got it
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: on one play that was like the first play, like
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: I did we throw it into the end zone really hard?
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: Why do you, oh, style points, fiskuit, It's got to
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: be a say you know what, You're no longer allowed
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: to don You're no longer allowed to make fun of
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: me with my boys felgrand Mass because you are a
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: wanna be felgrand Mass. You want to find something to
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: pick out now. I they had to come from twenty
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: eight three down. I mean they didn't. They didn't throw
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: them all into theether. They got red zone scores, but
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: they didn't throw it into get the lead right away
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: in the Super Bowl. It's unacceptable. I demand dominance and excellence.
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: Im perfect you. Yes, that's another great moment from bike
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: on now eight five five past five hundred disease to
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: get hotline Webb that that was the same guy who
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: was bored with going twelve and four every year, right,
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: and it was excited about the newness of I'm like
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: a rainbow Paul five pass. Let's see. Robin Coventry writes
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: in Gluten tag everyone or Guten abend uh seeing it's
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: it's the evening here in the UK, as the season
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: dressed to a close for the Patriots, I'd be interested
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: to your best and worsts. Back in October, I managed
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: to convince my wife that Boston was a convenient stopping
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: off point on our trip to Las Vegas and bought
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: two tickets for the Bears game. It may have been
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: the three thousand mile trip, or the bad weather, my
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: unimpressed wife, or the zero points in the second half,
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: but for me, that was the worst game of the season.
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: I think that was the worst game of the season.
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: I'm hoping to get tickets for the game in Germany,
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: probably just a single ticket. Actually, how about the best
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: and worst for you? A few suggestions below? Best the
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: way game, best away game were going, like the best
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: performance by the Patriots, Yeah, Cleveland clean, the Cleveland game, Yeah,
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: Arnold's second is Yeah. Worst home game was worst? Could
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: I think the Chicago was the worst? Yeah? Best defensive
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: play best? Maybe the fumble six from from Dugger? Like
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: where was that against Detroit? I like the pick on
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: the screen against the Raiders by Dugger? Okay, wasn't there
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: a great in Minnesota? Wasn't there a good nice pick by?
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: Was it Marcus Jones? Or who had the pick? Viking?
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: I think Jonathan It was a great catch. No, Marcus
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: Jones had that good return near the end of the season.
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: Was that Miami? Miami? Yeah, that was a good one,
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: good runback. Worst offensive play. Hello, how come on? Hey, yeah,
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: let's go. Yeah, just like non non LA category. Yeah,
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: best rookie Marcus Jones, Yeah, Marcus Jones and worst free
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: agent from last year? We who do we add? I
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: can't even think of a guy we added this year, No,
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: because I mean it was like the Terrence Mitchell's of
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: the world. And I mean I guess those all count right, Yeah, um,
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: Terrence Mitchell would be the worst. Nte Parker was a
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: trade and he was okay. Yeah, I don't know. I
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: think Terrence Mitchell. I mean you signed, you signed a
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: guy who has started in the league who didn't make
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: your team. Yeah, yeah, Malcolm Butler was out of footballs?
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: Where I put Terrence Mitchell ahead of him? Michael writes
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: in with Bill O'Brien's offense, will it provide a resurrection
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: for our tight ends? I don't think so. I don't.
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: I mean, I think Hunter Nry's okay, but I've I've
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: lost faith that JOHNA. Smith's gonna do anything more than anything,
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: and I would just you know, Bill O'Brien took control
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: of the offense roughly at the same time that they
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: drafted Gronk and Hernandez, so was that because the offensive
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: you know, and I love Billy O'Brien, Is that because
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: Billy O'Brien knew how to get the most out of
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: these tight ends? Or you had, you know, in one case,
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: the greatest tight end who's ever played at your disposal. Yeah,
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: I don't really remember the tight ends doing a whole
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: lot of Alabama the last couple of years. No, and
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: I and I and I might be wrong, but I
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: feel like a lot of that was was kind of
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: directed more as in reaction to the Jets and the
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: Jets and Rex Ryan's defense and what they were doing,
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: and some of it was even like the speed of
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: how they went, you know, not allowing him to do
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: all the stuff that he was doing. I don't know.
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: I just always saw more in a reaction to where
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: the team was and who they were going against them,
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: Bill O'Brien coming in and saying, I need tight ends.
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: Plus the speed thing seems like that was connected to
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: the and that's part that's part of my slot thing
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: talk out, you know, and I saw we just got
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: an aspf W. Someone said Paul was snubbing the slot receivers,
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: and I don't mean to I'm not diminishing the importance
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: that Welker, Edelman and Brown had in a Mondola too like,
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: But what I'm saying is, I don't think that's the
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: number one element to return to prominence, because when you
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: had Welker, you had Moss, When you had Edelman, you
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: had Gronk. Like they need the number one, they need
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: the big dog. The big dog makes everybody else better.
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: And I don't think slot receivers make everybody else better,
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: like in the traditional sense, Like I'm not telling you
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: like Jalen Waddle is different to me. That's you know,
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: you're talking about a top ten pick, Do you know
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: what I mean? Does that make any sense? I think
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: Welker is great, and he is great, but he also
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: has a lot of room to operate because there's a
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: guy who's greater on the outside, who's occupying a lot
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: of a lot of thought. But the defense good slot
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: guy can be that binkie. Yes, yes, Dante's talking about
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: absolutely yeah, Peter and England writes in um, does this
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: herald confirmation of a new offense finally explain the picks
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: of strange in Thornton in last year's draft, and that
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: the offense was being planned then if so, assuming Bob
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: rolls it back to twenty eleven, do those two choices
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: still fit the reinstall, reinstall old Patriot way or will
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: they struggle to adapt? I think cole Strange will fit.
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: I mean, I'm with everybody. Yeah, I don't think you
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: can put coal in the Yeah, I don't think Taekwon
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: Thornton was a pick. With that in mind, I think
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: you can make an argument that Cole Strange was. But
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: you know, if you want to if you want to
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: run outside stretch zone plays, you need athletic lineman, and
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: he's an athletic lineman. Yeah, so you could sell me
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: on that. Now, I don't think it was necessarily. What
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: is the phrase that you use? Cause? Correlation and correlation
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: and cause? I need to I need to write that down.
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: Alex learns stuff all the time. Tony writes in I'm
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: not sure if I agree with this email hearing the
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: good hearing this article is good for Matt much respect
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: to him for speaking out. Takes backbone, especially in the
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: Patriots organization. To do what he did, especially as a
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: young player. If he had kept it in house, nothing
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: would have changed. See. I don't agree with that. Yeah,
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: I don't agree. We're saying it only changed because Max
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: spoke out right. It was not. I think people knew
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: what was going on. Lord, I'm telling you right now,
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: be prepared that if the off the offense is going
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: to be better next year, it can't be like that
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: because it's not going to have this level of dysfunction.
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: So it's going to get better. When the offense is
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: just marginally better next year, be prepared for They gotta
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: get him weapons. What do you expect, right, That's what's
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: going to happen, because this guy can do no wrong.
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: That's why I'm hoping we cut that off the pass
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: and get some weapons this year. Really go all in
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: on figuring it out this year with him. You know,
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: like for some people, you're right, Paul, But there's plenty
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: of Matt critics on this show and your show there,
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: but there you don't think there's much smaller group like
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: that like that. You don't think there's a much smaller
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: group of people that that think that he's part of
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: the problem. Fifty I don't. I do. They did a
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: poll on your show. It was fifty fifty. In fact,
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: it was more on Mac. I only talk to you
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: guys and I feel like I really I'm like, who
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: who are these? Like on an apologetic Mac apologists like,
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: who are these people? I don't know, I haven't really
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: tied as his own little don't you embarrassed the people
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: he has like straw? All these guys have made out
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: of straw? Like can you can you think of other
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: than Mike Felger and Tony Massarotti. Give me a media
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: guy who is strongly anti Mac, anti Mac, strongly anti Mac,
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: not having questions about whether or not he's the guy.
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: But I don't think on Mac Jones. But I wouldn't
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: call a lot of no whole chance. I think Jim Murray,
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: I just said it, aside from the Felger mad show,
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: whole show, the whole show. Well, you're anti everything. I
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: don't know how many Tony Tony mas has spent the
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: last two weeks begging and pleading the Bruins to lose
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: a game. They're anti everything. I know by guys, I
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: love you, I love you, mean it, But I just
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: think a lot most most people that I talked to
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: with respect are like us are We're not like completely
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: anti Mac, but we're just kind of on the fence
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: leaning towards I don't really think he's gonna be able
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: to do it. I'm not saying, hey, let's get rid
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: of him right now. I'm willing to give him the
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: next year, but I don't have a lot of confidence
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: that he's gonna hit the level of Joe Burrow. I
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: think this story, you know, be one of those final
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: four questions. I think this story exposes a lot of
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: the things that I have questions about Mac Jones. I
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: didn't hear any of it when I was driving in
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: this morning. I didn't hear anybody talking about so Mac
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: Jones rubbed everybody the wrong way before they even started this.
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: I didn't hear anybody talking about that element of this
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: story this morning. When I read that, I was like,
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: why didn't they talk about that this morning. I've paid
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: a lot of people criticizing Mac all season about his
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: behavior and all that. I've heard a lot of it
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: national people too. You know what, I've heard former players,
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: former players from this team. Oh, that's that's different. That's
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: in addition, but that's not like, don't make me do this,
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: don't make me do this. When Bill Belichier picks up
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: the phone and calls Vince will Folk and said, hey,
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: can you do me a song? Like? That's what That's
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: what that was. I'm talking about the media. How was
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: dear Rolovski on Mac Jones this year? National media? Well,
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: how was Kurt Warner on on Mac Jones this year? Ah? Really,
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: he did a whole thing. It was like an hour
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: killing Mac or killing the offense, well, the offense but
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: both No, yeah, no, or lost. He's been oh, you
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: know what he may be married to about Kurt Warner
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: killed it. I just said Kurt. I just said Kurt Warner,
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: and he didn't kill Mac. He killed the offense. Yeah,
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: he had a whole notepad. Scratch the question mark about
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: this concept in this read. I hear both sides. There's
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: been a lot of criticism of Mac this season. A lot, okay,
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: not among the media. Okay, I'm gonna repeat it. There's
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: been a lot of Tony Maserati and Jim Murray are
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: completely out on Mac Jones. I don't know who that's Yeah, No,
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: I agree with on that point. I don't know anybody
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: who's completely which which I think is ridiculous at this
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: point based on what we've seen, Like and I'm not
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: somebody who's gonna say, oh, I know he's the guy,
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: but I don't know how based on last year you
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: can you can be out on him with what he did.
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: I mean, I'm definitely how my doubts for sure, but
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: to like, no question about it, I'm out. I think
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: it's too too early. Yeah, I go back to the
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: year before. I think everything that happened last year happened
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: in the last half of the year before, and no
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: one talks about it. Yeah. I think I think he
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: did not do as well down the stretch. The whole
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: team fell apart, but I think he included Yeah, but
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: I even counted games that they won. Like I'm not
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: just talking about games that they lost at the very end.
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: I'm talking about, um, you know, down the stretch of
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: the season. I think people think, Okay, this is what
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: he does, this is and I think that's it. I
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: think his ceiling is right there for you to see.
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: Everything is perfect. He's fine. Cheers. This is from Dan
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: in Virginia in Michigan, one of the four remaining of
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: the four teams remaining, who does Fred want to win
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: the Super Bowl? I'm not a great question. I'm not
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: up to date on Fred's fur and again, list who
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: do we hate? But it seems to me that every
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: remaining team has a black mark. In Fred's book, the
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: Chiefs have missus Ma Harpy. The Bengals had that issue
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: with the Patriots documentary Cameraman. The Eagles beat the Patriots
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: super Bowl fifty two. If the Niners win, it will
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: give them six lombardis putting them in the same rare
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: fight air as the Patriots and also the Steelers. I guess,
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: so who is rooting for? Or will he be taking
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: a nice long five hour walk on Super Bowl Sunday?
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: So yes, I think this is a great question. Who
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: am I supposed to be rooting rooting for? I'll tell
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: you who? Do you think? I want to go all
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: the way? Who would you be rooting for? I think
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: you're gonna be rooting for Philadelphia. It's convoluted, Paul, got it.
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: I'm rooting for Philadelphia. I think I think the U
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: their transgression is the least about them. Yes and friends,
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: all they I mean, all they did was they beat
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: us in the game, right right right, And they're definitely
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: an annoying fan base that but they're passionate. They are passionate.
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: I you know, It's like the Steelers. Like I used
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: to listen to a lot of the national sports shows,
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: and the Steelers fans always show up even after the losses.
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: They'll get on the radio and they'll make their call
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: and they'll you know, blah blah blah. But they don't
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: run away. They don't. The Steeler fans don't run away
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: when they're not doing well. And I respect that as
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: annoying as they are. Yeah, you know, uh do they
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: I'm just curious because I don't. This is the stuff
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: that I do take a backseat to you. I don't
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: listen to the national stuff. You do. Um when they
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: don't run away from it? They call do they make
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: excuses for their team, they get red, Okay, they get mad.
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: So they're like Bruins fans. Yeah, they're not blaming the
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: rafts or any of that stuff. So they would be
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: more Bruins fans like than Celtics fans. They're Bruins fans
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: would blame Harry Sindon even though he hasn't been involved
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: in thirty years, right, you know, the cheap Bruins Jacobs.
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: Celtics fans would be like, yeah, the referee screwed us,
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: you know, whatever. You know, Tatum actually did score and
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: they said it didn't go in. You know, like that's
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: a Celtics fan. Look at it, right, Alex, you know it.
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: Celtics are perfect. You know it? You green teamer I am.
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: I think actually this year, I don't know. I don't know.
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: It's there's the reasons against all of them. I mean,
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: and the whole thing with the Bengal sucks because that's
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: really the only reason why I'm kind of annoyed with them.
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: But I just I think the Chiefs annoy me more
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: than anybody. And like even like did you see last week,
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: like their whole little like ownership thing, which looked like,
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: you know, it's just all like button up, like you know,
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: guys that sing carols swinging together. It's like it's I
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: don't know, it's just it looks like a TV show
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: going on. An owner. I was an owner, I know that,
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: Like I probably couldn't do this, But if I was
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: an owner, I would sit alone watch maybe like one
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: or two other people, but don't get near me. You know.
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: I don't want to be like the thing, you know
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: during the game. I just want to watch it. I'm
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: fully you know, Well that's why. I thought it was
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: funny when we brought that guy Jerry into town and
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: he got to sit next to mister Craft, and I'm like,
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: what's that experience? Like you got to sit next to
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: the owners going through like, you know, kind of a
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: tumultuous game. It's like ups and downs and you know
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: you're kind of looking over your shoulder the whole time,
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: like no one. Yeah, I would not want to be
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: around people if I owned the team. That Chiefs thing,
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: it's so weird. It's like their whole liked I like,
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: I liked it. I really respect the Chiefs. I liked
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: I like what Andy Reid does. I like how he
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: I think he's a lot like Bill and I respect
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: the way he puts the program together. I would have
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: no problem with the three of the three of the teams,
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: which means San Francisco will win the chance. You don't
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: want San France. I don't want them because I just
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: hate the whole like narrative of Kyle Shannighan, it just
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: bugs me about John Lynch. I don't know anything against
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: John Lynch. I don't like the way it comes down
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: to the field at the end of the game. That
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: was quick last week, though, I will say that, yeah,
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: he got down their fat like they the elevator like
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: we do. They showed him upstairs and then all of
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: a sudden, like the next clip was him on the sideline.
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: Well I wonder if that was filming. Could have been yeah, yeah,
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: could have been, right, But yeah, I have reasons to
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: hate all of them, but at least hate. You have
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: reasons to hate all all of the other thirty one teams.
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: But like, your team's out, So who Yeah, you know
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: who are you rooting for? I hate Or. I'm rooting
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: and I know why and I'm not arguing with you,
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: but I'm rooting for Borrow. I'm rooting for Cincinnati. I
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: like Borrow, but the two bad he's on that team?
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, um Dave and Bangor. I think Bill prided
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: himself on finding hidden talent and unlikely places and desperately
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: wants to prove that the dynasty was not all tom uh,
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: such as strange draft picks. No pun intended in naming
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: Matty p and Joe Judge to coach the offense. This
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: one blew up in his face and cost him the season.
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: With that said, in the article that just came out,
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: do you think Bill has lost the locker room. Do
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: you think he'll want to move on from Max start
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: over with a clean slate. I don't think he's lost
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: the locker room. Mean, even the most damning quote in
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: this piece is but you know, in the words of
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: one of the sources, I love coach Belichick, but he
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: fed us Like I think he made a mistake. I
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: think the players and realize he made a mistake, but
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: I don't think that they've decided he can no longer
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: be in charge of us. Yeah, well, based on the
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: move and bringing Bill O'Brien and showing that ready to
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: make the change and ready to hit the reset button.
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: And I mean if if I mean, I'm not hoping
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: that MAMT. Patricia is not bad. I don't really have
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: a horse on that. But if he was not back,
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: I would see that even more as like an attempt
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: to say last year was last year. We got new coaches,
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: We're have a new system now we're couldn't put that
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: behind us and move on? Uh speaking, freds know about
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: me defending Patricia, He says, Fred, if Paul agreed to
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: be your videographer or a latex salesman or whatever thing,
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: he's unqualified for it would be largely on him for
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: taking the job. I sort of agree with that. That's
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: a specially true for Patricia, who, unlike Paul, probably doesn't
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: need the money so bad. The name calling crap is
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: unnecessarily cruel. But there's no need for a thank you. Okay,
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: that's your opinion. No, but I agree with that premise
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: that if you asked me to do something that I
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: know I can't do, I would say, fred, I can't
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: do that. I don't have that. I don't know how.
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: Maybe he thought he could. That's so therefore it's on him,
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: but Bill should know better. I still say that also
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: regardings and it's Bills. It's just like Bill said, ultimately
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: it's my fault. It's on me. Also regarding Evan's take
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: on Tuesday, sure, Josh Allen's disappointing postseason should be considered
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: a blight on his resume, and the same is true
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: for Lamar's track record. But it seems kind of petty
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: to piece together apologies for Mac and One Breath while
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: slushing Josh Allen's fans in the next I just want
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: on the record that Evan spent like after that Bill's
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: game was telling everyone about how nice Josh Allen was
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: to him in the hallway, and it just became a
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: running joke. So I was very shocked when he came
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: in on Tuesday and had all those takes. Plus he's
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: been really good in the playoffs. He played really bad
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: last Sunday, Like, can't that be okay? I don't you know?
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: We have to ignore Tom Brady's three interception playoff games
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: because he's Tom Brady. I mean, I've gotten to watch
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: Josh Allen in person here a few times now. I
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: think he's awesome, Like I have so much. I think
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: he's got his warts like most, but he's awesome. He's
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: been a guy that everybody When I say everybody, Fred
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: please yeah, I'm just talking about the people. A lot
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: of people around here from the start were convinced that
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: this guy was a bozo who could never learn how
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: to get it done. And then he learned how to
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: get it done. So now a lot of those same
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: people are just waiting every time he does not come
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: through in a big So. I heard a guy today
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: say something about on the radio and I figured who
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: it was. Um, they were talking about It's he was
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: kind of he he kind of they were comparing him
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: to Aaron Rodgers, I think, which I thought this was
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: really funny. And they said, like Aaron Rodgers when he
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: needs to make the plays, he still was able to
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: make the plays, kind of like the opposite of Josh Allen.
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: Like now Josh Allen's not good in the clutch, like
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: because he lost at home to Cincinnati. And again that
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: a lot of people thought the Bengals could win going
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: in right, I mean, everybody thought that was going to
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: be I did until you talk to me about talking.
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: I took the blame. I took the blame. What do
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: you want me to do? We got picks today too,
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: don't we forgot? We will at the time we got
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: two games, just forgot I forgot Jack down the road
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: and Stowton writes in I wanted to address Paul and
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: Fred's curiosity about getting food on game day from last
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: Thursday last weekend, my wife and I grilled out before
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: the Chiefs game, then set up a crock pot with
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: Buffalo chicken dip. The timing worked out perfectly and we
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: were able to have two meals at the start of
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: both games. But if you're going to pick up food
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: in between games. You can go wrong leaving during the
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: fourth quarter if the game is virtually over and be
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: able to get back. Uh and eat right before the
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: second game. Okay, yeah, I'm out this week anyway, I
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: gotta miss them. Oh really? Yeah? Wow, are you gonna
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: be okay football banquet? I'm gonna be on vacation during
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: the Super Bowl. Oh I'm not going, rub o. Wow. Yeah,
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: when I was kind of sweating, Oh yeah, you weren't.
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: Really if you actually made those arrangements before this season,
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: you never you never spent one second sweat out. First
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: of all, I didn't. I made him like in December
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: last year. No this year two, So we swear, Well
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: for a minute there, I said, you know what, we
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: could beat the Bills, and if we beat the Bills,
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: and who knows what can happen, might beat the Bengals.
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: You're just you're just prone to worry then, because there
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: was never any sniff, no not of beating the Bills
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: that day, but there was never any sniff of them
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: being in the Super Bowl. Well that's me because I'm
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: I'm always eternally optimal optimistic. So you made the arrangements
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: in December. Huh, yeah, keep that in mind. Let's find
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: all that one the way I started. Well, you did
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: the same thing, Fred, Yeah, But if if it had
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: come to pass that they did, I would have had
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: to cancel the vacation. Paul would have gone No. I
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: would not have said, Paul, on your vacation because this
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: guy's gay. Uh yeah. My wife was like, I'm going, okay,
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: some of us have never taken vacation. You see a
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: Ruba coming out without Now that's what I was sweating
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: when I got when I got married, because when when
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: we got engaged and we set the date, the Patriots
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: were like four and five or five and five or something,
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: you know, in two thousand and one, it was all
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: of a sudden they never lost again. And I'm like,
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: what if this happens next year, I'm dead. It's so funny.
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: But it didn't. I didn't make l from Wisconsin. I
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: just wanted to point out an error in Mike's draft analysis.
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: Don't look at top flight tackles to take at fourteen,
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: look at mid round tackles to take at fourteen instead,
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: Thanks Snark. That was Paul Snark. As for Mac, I
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: don't think this past year could be completely thrown out
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: because of the offensive dysfunction. I feel like I saw
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: a lot of physical limitations that had nothing to do
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: with the offense. Otherwise, that being said, I'm out on Mac.
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: Another person out on that. So I'm honestly not sure
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: what he person or one. No, It's unbelievable how we
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: only hear certain things. Fred we did the pole on
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: the show, remember my little pole? I do I hear
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: both sides. You don't hear a lot of I'm out
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: on Mac. You don't hear a lot. I'm honestly not
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: sure what he can do to change my mind. One
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: last thing after the article, I'd be really disappointed in
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: Bill if Judge or Patricia are still affiliated with the team.
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: Everywhere they go seems to turn to disaster nowadays. You know,
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: It's another thing I think about too, is I think
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: that this generation of players is probably a lot more
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: affected by all the negative press that Matt, Patricia and
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: Joe Judge received from their previous stops, like all those
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: things that came out, Like, I just think we're so
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: much more involved in the media they started it. Yeahs
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: are very online. Yeah, That's my thing with Mac is
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: this goes back to June when I started hearing this stuff.
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: And by the way, we heard this stuff not just
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: on this show, like there were the things that you
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: do when you hear things and that sort of formulates
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: your opinions. And they started it not to sound like
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: a twelve year old in the schoolyard, but the real
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: questioning of what they were doing kind of it emanated
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: with the players. It did, it did, and then it
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: just got to the point of ridiculousness. Every day. That's
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: all everybody talked about. Nayton, Northeast Pennsylvania. This is the
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: total offseason email. So sorry in advance. Since we're on
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: the subject of peuisms such as like pointed out by
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: Andrew and that email, I just wanted to point out
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: my new favorite Mike phrase. Whether he's responding to a
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: listener email or call, or it's his turn to make
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: a tricky choice in the Weekly Picks, Mike sometimes starts
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: his response off with a deep breath followed by a yes.
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: And it's my new favorite something. I think he uses
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: it when he's really indecisive about what to say next
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: or something, but either way, it's gold. It's a it's
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: a deep, deep breath of contemplation. Yeah. Thinking. By the way,
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: this is the first time I've had the opportunity to
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: tune in on YouTube. When you first tease the idea,
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: I thought it was stupid, But here I am watching
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: and enjoying even more. So. Thank you for continuing to
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: try new things and pump out content. I have to
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: give credit. I have to give credit to others because I,
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: you know, didn't know if the juice is worth the
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: squeeze to go on YouTube. People like it gonna put
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: on a night shirt and call my hair. Yeah it's
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: not me. I just up, is what you get? Yeah?
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: Show we're on the T shirt and sweatshirt game. Yeah.
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: I you know, I don't want to like come off
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: one way on YouTube and then they see me in
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: them all and I look like a different person. You know.
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: I want to be consistent your fans. You got to
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: keep your fans, you know, don't get expectations too high, right, Uh?
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: Todd and Rochester. Yes, I noticed how quickly Lynch got
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: down to the field, first, showing him in the sweet
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: saying review that last play. Next shot, after the commercial break,
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: he's on the sideline clapping after the review is being announced.
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: In the forty nine is favor. Yeah, that's what I
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: was saying. Yeah, I don't I don't like that. Maybe
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: as an elevator right from his box, right direct, But
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: why why don't you like that? I don't. I don't.
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: I don't care for the owner or I said, the
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: owner or the GM coming down to the field at
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: the end of the game. So when Cassari used to
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: do that, you didn't like it? Oh, I don't like it.
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: I don't know that he ever did that. I just
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: made that. I don't like it. I'm telling you, I
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: just made it up. The Idaho murderer. It's it's Cassario
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: every time, Tim, thank you for getting I got it.
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: Tim writes in pointing out that Jermaine Wiggins is anti Mac.
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: That that is true. That is true. He's he's I
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: think he's he's out on Mac. He gets yelled at
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: every show for saying that he has questions about Mac.
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: But that's correct. That is so we're up to four
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: media members. I mean I think, I mean, I speak
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: for myself and probably Paul. I mean, I think we're
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: both probably pretty close to out on MAC. But I
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: just I'm realistic and pragmatic about what are you really
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: going to do this year? And I just think that
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: there was I think that he is His play itself
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: has been overlooked because of the level of dysfunction. And
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: I think if you look at the Phil Perry's, the
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: Tom Curran's, the Mark Daniels, the Mike Reeses, and the
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: Andrew Callahan's, like the Evans, like they're breaking this down
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: and they're telling you Greg Badard, and they're giving you
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: all the reasons why it's not the quarterback's vault. And
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: I just think it's a simplistic way of looking at it.
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: And that article backed it up in the art, but
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: no one's even talking about that part of it. I
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: know everybody's only talking about like Joe Judge, Wow, what
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: a raving lunatic. How would you feel if you were
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: openly mocked by the guy before you even started? I'll
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: teach him. Travis Trevine and Huntsville writes in I emailed
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: a few years ago with this game with all four
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: quarterbacks left, which would you like to have for one play,
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: one drive, one game, one season, you have to use
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: all four. So the four categories are one play, one drive,
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: one game, one season. The quarterbacks are Mahomes, Burrow, Jalen Hurts,
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: and I guess Brock Purty if I have to have.
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: I mean, so the one play has to be Purty,
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: because that way I can get him in the hell
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: off before he cost me anything. There you go. Yeah,
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: but what if that one play is the last play, Well,
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: then I'm screwed. What were the other ones? One drive?
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: One drive? One drive? I would say, I don't know.
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: Mahomes always seems to be like get those like there's
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: only four seconds left and they're down by six, and
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: chuck it down the fields. I think Mahomes for the
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: drive and one game Hurts and then a season Burrow
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: Hard with Hurts. I don't I mean, I don't feel
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: like I have a reason to say. This is why
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: I would. I mean, he's a very good player. Yeah,
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: I think I'm with you, Fred, Yeah, I like Hurts.
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: I think I think he's really good. I never thought
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: he would be this um effective as a passer, yep,
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: got up close to look a couple of summers ago. Yeah,
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: he's really improved as a passer. And I know he's
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: got a good scheme. I know everybody just mocks the
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: quarterbacks because they don't matter. It's funny he's got he's
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: got such a presence about him too, Like there's just
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: something about him that he has. I hate swag, but
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: he's kind of got that like leadership, alpha quarterback kind
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: of vibe. I just you know, I was so impressed
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: with the way he handled the benching in the championship game.
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: Fred and I raved about it after that. Um, I
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: just felt like, that's a guy who's gonna he's gonna
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: succeed no matter what he does in life. I think
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: he learned a lot from that experience too, Just like
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: the shots of seeing him run on the field from
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: that National championship, like smiling and him being like, what,
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: I'm a national champion for the rest of my life, Like,
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: why would I not be pumped about that? Right? I
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: thought I was really impressive. Sweet kid writes in that
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: I was gonna call but forget that. I'm literally praying
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: for a Fred versus Paul fight on video. You'll get
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: it eventually. Yeah, you know, what's what's happened is everything
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: was so dramatically one sided that we can't really fabricate
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: an argument over it. Like Fred's like, you know, like me,
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: I mean, I thought it was something that could it's nothing.
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: He could say, no, no, no, it wasn't as bad
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: as you thought. Like then we could argue, all right,
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: if Fred could sit there and say, now the offense
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: wasn't as bad as you thought. Give us so like
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: April when Fred starts talking about, now this offense will
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: be a top three offense in football, because Bill O'Briant said, well,
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: we'll get you something, right, Freddie. I just think we've
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: been together through this whole season, and we've watched you know,
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: going back to practices, and like I just we all
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: watched the same things, and we all talked about the
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: same things, and you know, there wasn't ever one of
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: us that was like, I don't know, guys, like that
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: was so crazy to me. And I've said this before
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: about training camp. You know, you come out being like
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: does this really matter? Does this really tell us anything?
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: We just watched an hour and a half of them
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: just kind of doing walk through. Does that matter? And
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: this season it seems like yes, it absolutely mattered, and
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: it absolutely was a sign of what was to come
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: and all the drama that was kind of like about
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: to bubble under the surface, like all those things were accurate,
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: and it's just it's hard to have like another take.
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: When I was side by side with you guys watching
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: those practice, this is like we all saw the same thing, right,
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. It's hard to have an argument
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: when it's so obvious, statistical cutting hair and like in
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: the twenty eight years I've been here, I don't remember
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: like anything that was just so apparent to even the
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: layman and that ended up being true. Right, Yeah, Like
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: we could probably have a good argument. Maybe we'll do
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: this in a couple of weeks. We could probably have
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: a good argument about the defense. Yeah, yeah, you know
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: how good was the defen You could probably do it.
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: We'll table that one, mel Okay, Neil and new Brunswick.
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: If this article is true, and I'm sure some probably
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: most of it is, what I would like to know
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: is did mister Kraft know this stuff before meeting with Bill?
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: A lot of coaches would be fired for a situation
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: like this, and Bill has survived, and in that ridiculous
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: press conference, acted like there was no possibility he wouldn't
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: be the coach next year. That still bothers me. I
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: think this is just as much a prove it year
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: for Bill as it is for Mac, and if it's
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: a failed season, will be gone this time next year.
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: And although we might not have liked the way he acted,
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: we might owe Mack an apology because he seems he
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: was right. Seems he was right. Yeah, I don't think
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: there's any chance that you're gonna get that that that
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: everybody's gone. I just don't see it. That would be
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: something huh, you burn it to the stunts. Yeah, And
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: I feel like somewhat this season feels more and I
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: think this is a good thing. Hopefully that this is
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: the direction that it's that it's Bill stepping back a
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: little bit and letting, you know, Bill O'Brien run this offense,
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: and you know, letting Gerardmeo take more of a role.
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: Not to say that I'm saying I want him to
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: like start to get out of out of being the coach,
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: but I think that he'll get more help and it
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: should look better. I hope that there'll be you know,
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: less of the mistakes, the stupid stuff that just that
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: he can't have happened. Right. Um, let's see Ernie and
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: east Hardwick Vermont. Um. He said, my expectations last year
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: were six wins. What I didn't calculate was how bad
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: most of the teams in the league really are onto Mac.
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: I think the Patriots need to move on with him.
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: The bad outweighs the good. Another person against him. He
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: doesn't have the arm strength or the side media. It's everybody.
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: I listened to everyone. I don't think his character is
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: what we want in a franchise quarterback. A friend once
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: told me people are like a tube of toothpaste when squeezed,
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: what his inside will come out? I didn't that's a
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: good one. I didn't like what I saw come out
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: of Mac. One of the things that really bugged me
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: about Mac was him keep telling us that he loved
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: football and was a real competitor. Yet in three or
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: four key situations he ran in, slid a yard or
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: two shy of the first down. Personally, I have seen enough,
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: but I will continue to watch whatever. How does the
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: group feel about quarterback Hooker out of Tennessee. He's rehabbing
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: from an acl Okay, I don't know. I don't love him,
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: like him, don't love him. I heard like talent wise,
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: he could be the best of the bunch, right, I
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: don't think so, But he's the only one. I mean,
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: I think, I mean, if you're just gonna go like
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: the highest upside with the tremendous like the all around
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: package of skills, m Richardson from Florida is like, I
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: think he's an ultimate boom er Bus guy. Oh yeah,
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: what was his deal though? That was? What's what's the
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: knock on him? Well, he didn't play consistently. Well yeah,
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: like if you saw, like if you saw some Florida games,
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: you'd be like, wow, this guy's going to be a
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: monster in the NFL. And you saw others and like
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: they couldn't move the ball at all. Yeah, like from
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: one week to the next, you never knew what you
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: were gonna get. Brad. And he's but he's big, can
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: run like a ridiculous arm, but just no consistency, no refinement. Brad.
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: Three wishes for next season. One can I please see
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: the play coming into the quarterback before the play clock
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: hits fifteen seconds left? UM fifty two tackles that actually
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: know what the snap count is, and three of the
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: team knows what the focus of the offense is going
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: to be. Starting day one of the training camp, we
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: are we a throw to run, run to throw or
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: rpo and then tell me the team, Tell the team
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: to shut up, learn your plays, and go do it.
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: I felt like that was never made clear to the team. Okay, yeah, no, yes,
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: let's see David and Maine. Lots of emails coming in.
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: You know, you're still going to be a game plan
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: offense because that's what Bill believes in. So you're not
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: going to get the answers to those questions. Yeah, if
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: we throw to run maybe this week, right, maybe next week,
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: you're going to be, you know, the other way around.
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: David and Maine being out of the playoffs suck. Sucks. Also,
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: Paul reminded me of something on Tuesday that I was
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: trying to understand salary cap and actual spend. Maybe mcgal
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: can help too. I would definitely go to him. Yeah,
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: on something specific to the cap. I guess I've been
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: ignorant to the fact that some teams spend more cash
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: than others and don't just try to meet the salary cap.
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: Is this similar to baseball in small markets? To the
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: Crafts not spend cash as much as other teams. According
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: to Bill, they don't. Yeah, I mean Bills the one
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: that talked about that they were twenty seventh and cash
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: bending the last three years, yea, which is the significant number.
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: I mean that shows you how much teams are, you know,
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: willing to go out and really put your money where
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: your mouth is to get those guys rather than oh yeah,
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: and you're I mean, but you're gonna be playing Devin
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: mccordy at like twenty twenty six. He's going to be
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: on the cap of like dead money. You're starting to
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: think he's coming back. No, No, I haven't. I haven't
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: really him talking so much about like I haven't the
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: inner workings of what's going on is that because I
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: think you can make an argument both ways, Like to
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: you a point, he wouldn't be talking about what he
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: thinks of Bill O'Brien's arrival if he was coming back. Yeah,
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: do you think like making his own Twitter account finally?
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: Yeah and follow really? Yeah? Do you think at this
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: point Bill cares about those quotes come from? UM? I
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: would hope he's not wasting any time worrying about that
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: and just his time trying to fix it. Yeah, let
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: it get out there. It was what it was, and
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: let's like move on. But I mean, I yeah, good
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: with Paul, you know, to try to, like now ferret
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: out who's talking to the media, and you know, all
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: though I don't, I don't think that's gonna be very fruitful.
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: Um rich in Santa Cruz apropos of nothing in today's show.
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: But I was thinking of while taking a shower after surfing,
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: that Fred's soap savor idea, if sponsored by the NFL,
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: could be called the slot Receiver. I think Julian Edelman
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: and West Welker could do the marketing together. I love it.
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: I love it. That's gonna be our first on video
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: fight between you guys. Going to go back into that conversation,
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: oh time you were probably not even born yet started. Well,
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: that was my first show. And it's like when I
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: was asked and I was like, what the hell did
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: I just walk into merchandise in the very first Patriots
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: unfiltered pockets? Right, the slot receiver receiver? Um, Although taking
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: a shower, that could have a lot of different kind
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: of tent. I don't know perfect. That's why we like it. Um,
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: let's see. Eric writes in from El Paso, what are
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: the benefits of having our coach staff coach the Senior Bowl?
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: Actually it's the Shrine Bowl. Plus y' all think we
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: go towards a defense in mind draft or an offense draft, Well,
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: I think. I mean, they got to Marcus Coverington at
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: the Senior Bowl, and they have the great majority of
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: the staff at the Shrine Bowls. I mean, I think
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: it's an opportunity to coach prospects. And I mean we
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: were talking about content and covering it, and you know,
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: my question was, what's it like in a situation like
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: this where you probably have scouts at the Shrine Bowl
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: they have prospects that they like, and now your coaches
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: have interacted with them on the field, they've coached them,
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: you know, so you might get an even more you know,
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: thorough evaluation of some of these players because not only
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: have your scouts scouted them, but you've had coaches that
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: have had direct interactions with them. As far as the
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: offense defense, offense, I mean it's you know, I think
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: they have to they have to add some some significant
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: talent on that side of the ball this offseason. Another
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: person who wants to move on from Mac chat in Atlanta.
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: How long have we got to have to wait until
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: the realization that Mac really is just someone who can
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: play quarterback in this league another year and a half.
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: Bill's words, not mine. Are we really gonna have to
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: wait until Mac has a perfect old line the oc
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: he needs a plethora of weapons in place, only then
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: to realize what's been apparent. I'm if I'm Bill, I'm
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: not waiting for Mac to have a utopia to play
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: in before I move on. I mean, I see, Paul,
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: they're out there. They're people are gonna write in for negative.
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: I'm just saying there, I'm telling you find me the
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: media people who think like that, we don't care. I'm
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: talking about our fans are more important to me than
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: what the media things. Oh that's that's nice of you, pandering.
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: I care more about what fans think. It's like Andy's
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: like Andy Hart yesterday on Twitter. Right, Oh, so evidently
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: Brandon Bean, the Bill's GM, doesn't want to suck that line,
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: doesn't want to suck bad enough to get Jamar Chase,
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: you know, to someone like Jamar Chase. And Andy Hart
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: retweets and goes, well, how'd you get Josh Allen? Well,
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: I don't know, made about four trades to move from
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: twenty one to seven to draft him. In other words,
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: they didn't suck bad enough to get Josh Allen Andy like, yeah,
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: you don't have to jump through hoops to pander to
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: the Patriots fans, which the thing that cracks me up.
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: And Fred will will vouch me on this. There was
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: nobody more negative than that when he sat in New Yorgia. Yeah,
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: now all of a sudden he's on EI and people
- 1:46:22Speaker 1: will you know, yeah, come no, that whole station is
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: gearing up for Adam Jones. Oh yeah, it's gonna be
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: like the launch now they've got. But that's the whole
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: station is that they're the counter to the quote unquote
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: negative station of the Hall, right, but they're gonna have
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: their negative guys, so they're all honing their their game
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: to play against him. How does Felger feel about Uh,
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: this is young. I mean they had such a fun relationship,
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: like I always love when Adam will come on, and
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: Felger was just so being by them, like how we
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: would take it. And now now they're up against each other.
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: Joe Murray, who is I don't know if he's officially
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: going to be the new night guy, but he's been
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: doing nights since Adam left and he's very much in
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: that mold. He just talks about food and gambling more
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: than everybody else. But yeah, like again, I know you
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: always say, like, see they're out there. Yes, I understand
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: there are some people out there. The vast majority of
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: the analysis is that it's all Matt Patricia and this
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: is all gonna get fixed magically. Right now. Now, I'm
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: telling you what's going to happen is they're gonna have
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: largely the same cast of characters on offense, and then
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: that will be the excuse you got to give them weapons.
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: See what they did with Stefan Diggs, See what they
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: did with Jama Chase, See what they did with Jalen
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: Waddle and Tyreek Hill. That's what's gonna happen. Yeah, I
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: just feel like they got to add somebody, you know,
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: and and I'm sure that we probably could have the bait.
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: They've added the wrong guy. But you know, with Agalore
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: hitting free agency, with Myers, free agencies, like moves have
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: to happen at those spots. So I just hope that
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: they have somebody somehow, whether it's a first rookie, They're
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: gonna add some somebody, even in the DeVante Parker Like
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: all right, it's not exactly what I wanted, but he's okay.
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, you have to have wide if it's
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: going to be on the team, you want to have
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: knee jerk analysis. Of the four remaining teams, three great
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: quarterbacks and the one that doesn't has great talent. Right,
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: you were in upstairs when we were talking about this yesterday, Right, Yeah,
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: it's just like, yeah, you can. You can sit back
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: and you can say, see Brock Purdy, mister irrelevant. Yeah, Like,
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: think about how difficult it is to do it that way,
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: and think about the level of player of George Kittle,
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: uh Deebo, Samuel nick Bosa, Dre Greenlaw won't he won't,
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: Fred Fred warn not going to mention McCaffrey. They didn't
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: draft him. I'm talking about how hard it is to
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: not just draft players that played for you, which a
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: lot of teams can do. Yeah, because a lot of players,
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: a lot of teams will just play the guys they draft.
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: I'm talking about guys who are at the very top
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: of their profession at what they do that they drafted. Yeah,
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: that's so hard. Now, McCaffrey, that just adds to Brandon
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: and a Yuk. I would throw in that draft category
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: like McCaffrey just adds to an already stacked roster. Trent
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: Williams I didn't mention either. Trent Williams. A lot of
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: people think is maybe the best left tackle to ever
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: play the game, but they didn't draft him. So that's
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: why I didn't include him. Okay, you can do that
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: to build a team, and yeah, you could probably win
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: with virtually anybody playing quarterback, although I would argue they haven't.
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: They until now. They've only won when Jimmy plays quarterback.
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: Now Brock Purdy has been able to go seven and
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: all or whatever he is. But that team is absolutely loaded.
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: All Right, A couple of quick calls and then we're
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: gonna get to picks. Eldred's in North Carolina. What's up, Eldred? Hey, fellows, lady,
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: how y'all doing doing well? Doing the draft? I said
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: I didn't want mc jones in the first place. I
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: remember he's the guy I remember you didn't want. Yeah,
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: um My thing is this, Chicago got first pick, trade
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: back to the Raiders for the first try to get
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: filled for a sucker, and then get those two gets,
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: those two man corners. That's gonna be in the draft
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: because those tackles gonna be gone before we get there.
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: Four team, What can we come back over the trade?
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: What are we trading get a sucking a third? No? No, no, not?
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: What are the Patriots trading mac Jones to the Raiders? Okay,
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: in exchange for Waller? Maybe I'll sucker. Now you didn't
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: gonna get Walling went fro Now get the first either, Yeah,
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: but you might get a sucker, top sucker. Maybe they're
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: gonna have a bunch of man corners and them sucking
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: in thirty fourth round. But the best one is gonna
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: be in the first one. The guy from Illinois and
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: the other guy I think he's from I forgot the
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: other And who's our quarterback? Good press man corn corners corner? No,
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: but who's our quarterback? We trade mac Jones pray for field?
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: But what are you going to trade for? What are
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: you going to trade to Chicago for fields? Ellie's elp,
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: Vegas's first rounder? Maybe they first Maybe to suck it.
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: But like you guys pay attention to this stuff more
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: than I do. End up with Justin Field somehow. Oh yeah, no,
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: I mean I could be talked into that. Thank you
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: guys know this stuff more than I do with Chicago,
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: Like really contemplating that, I know why, trading fields and
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: taking a quarterback with that pick, that's crazy. I'd also
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: wonder if you really think Josh McDaniels wants to trade
- 1:51:33Speaker 1: for Mac. You know that seems like really you didn't
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: know that they hugged after the game John at Duxbury.
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: What's und I mean, that's why Johndre Hopkins to make
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: Okay number one. But looking at some of those mock drafts,
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: and I would be okay with them taking Michael Maya
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: from the I'm sure you guys have seen a play
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: the tight end from note to Dame who was an
- 1:51:56Speaker 1: excellent player, uh and then getting the back color O'Connor
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: in the second round. What do you guys feel about that?
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: I wouldn't be totally opposed to it. I mean, I
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: think it falls under my feeling of you just you
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: just need weapons, and you need as much as you
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: have tight ends. I think you know you're gonna probably
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: lose at least one of them in the next year.
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: And I think he has the potential to be, you know,
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: a real kind of game changer as a tight end.
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: So as much as you want it like a really
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: stud wide receiver. I think he could potentially, Yeah, I
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: hear you do the kind of worthy of being tested.
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: I mean, it's just, you know, it's this Paul said, thanks.
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: You need you need to and I think even the
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: playoffs recently of you know, even if it's not like
- 1:52:35Speaker 1: one of those elite number twos, like maybe you would
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: call t Higgins like, you just need guys who are
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: going to be effective in the big spots. And it's
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: somewhere to go when you're big guy, isn't having a
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: big gamer? All right? Getting okay? So all right, it's
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: that time of the week, all right, Paul, what happened
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: last week? Well, young Evan at four and all set
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: the pace in the overall last week, Fred and Paul
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: three and one, right behind and Mike two and two.
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: With the spread, Evan was three and one, Paul and
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: Fred were two and two, and Mike was one and three.
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: So the playoffs standings, Paul and Evan tied at eight
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: and two, Mike and Fred right behind at seven and
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: three overall with the spread, we got to really pick
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: up our games, boys, Paul, no surprise, has less work
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: to do to catch up five and five, Evan and
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: Fred four and six, Mike three and seven? What are
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: you doing? I just let your dog pick, all right.
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: So that's where we stand after after two rounds. Okay, Alex,
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: will you be partaking? Okay? All right? So we started
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: three I heard I won. A few weeks I eliminated.
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: I eliminated the Alex column. I had the column here
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: set up for Alex and then it's like she doesn't
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: come anywhere. Three o'clock on Sunday on Fox h thirt
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: e four forty nine ers or at the fourteen and
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: three Eagles, Eagles by two and a half, by two
- 1:54:08Speaker 1: and a half. Ah, yeah, I think I picked against
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: San Francisco last week. I thought it would come down
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: to the quarterback. Dak played terribly, So it didn't. I
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: guess it. Maybe it kind of did. But I'm gonna
- 1:54:19Speaker 1: go with the same kind of philosophy. I think that
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: they're gonna be The Eagles are better at the quarterback
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: position with Jalen Hurts, and that is going to be
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: the difference. I'll take the Eagles. I'll lay the points
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: Eagles both ways. I'm gonna take the Eagles as well.
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: This is more of a pick with my heart than
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: my head. I just I don't know, I'm rooting against
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: the Niners. I think if you use your head, I
- 1:54:42Speaker 1: rock parties runs over. You know. I think he was
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: exposed a little bit last week and that continues this week. Yeah. Well,
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: I know we had great numbers against Seattle. I don't
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: think he played that well in that game, especially in
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: the first half. Yeah. I think if you can get
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: some pressure on him and not allow them to run wild. Yeah,
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: I mean the the the key here is San Francisco's
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: great defense. I mean, yes, both teams defense. You know,
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: they could keep it a game just because of their defense.
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: But I think clear advantage hurts. And there you know,
- 1:55:20Speaker 1: so you got Philly. I got Philly both ways. Six
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: thirty on CBS, The twelve and four Bengals are at
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: the fourteen and three Chiefs Bengals by one. Um. Mahomes
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: was a full participant yesterday. Haven't been on Twitter today
- 1:55:39Speaker 1: to see what's going on. I saw the clip of him,
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: you know, talking at the podium walking off. Yeah. I
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: don't like put any stock in any of that. Someone
- 1:55:49Speaker 1: was like, maybe it wasn't even Mahomes, and I'm like,
- 1:55:50Speaker 1: oh yeah, I didn't you see how his head? What
- 1:55:52Speaker 1: did you see him? His head was straight to the side,
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: So it was definitely Mahomes. Um. But the people in
- 1:55:59Speaker 1: Vegas literally still have some questions because the Bengals are
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: a road favorite. What do you think if Mahomes is
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: one hundred percent the spread would be yea three? Yeah,
- 1:56:12Speaker 1: two and a half three, much like the other game.
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: So as probably any everybody figures, I'm gonna take Cincinnati
- 1:56:17Speaker 1: and Joe Burrow hard to pick against him. I just
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: I think Mahomes is still going to be limited. Um,
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: and it's it's not going to be enough. The Bengals
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: are playing and fuego. I got a Bengals Eagles super Bowl.
- 1:56:30Speaker 1: I also have Bengals Eagles super Bowl. It's going to
- 1:56:32Speaker 1: set up I think the most watched super Bowl ever
- 1:56:35Speaker 1: from the female demographic. Wow. And I'm gonna give since
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: he the points to who Jalen Hurts. I'm intrigued by this.
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Joe Burrow and Jalen Hurts elite talent with
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: the female demographic. Paul Paul learned, he learned me something.
- 1:56:50Speaker 1: He learns me something every show. It doesn't speak often,
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: but when she does, he's not purty. Um, Let's give
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: him some time to grow a little more. But uh no,
- 1:57:00Speaker 1: those two guys are Joe Borrow in the talents, Jay Hurt.
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: I could see that. Yeah, good looking guys. I mean
- 1:57:08Speaker 1: he still does look a little bit like grown up
- 1:57:10Speaker 1: Macaulay Culkin. Joe Burrow should have looked like when he's goofy.
- 1:57:16Speaker 1: Look Brow, Do you think he's goofy? No, I think
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: he's a good looking guy. But I think he has
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: a little bit of a goofball kind of looked, you
- 1:57:23Speaker 1: know what I mean, Like I don't get the goopaul things.
- 1:57:25Speaker 1: I don't know. I just think sometimes he's he's a
- 1:57:27Speaker 1: little out there. But Macaulay called Jalen Hurts like an
- 1:57:30Speaker 1: absolutely good look on your type. Even even Marine Corps
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: mad Is is nodding. He's gonna have to push away
- 1:57:36Speaker 1: from the Taborrows. It's too girly. Faith has absolutely no
- 1:57:38Speaker 1: idea what you got herself? It is they're both top too,
- 1:57:45Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts, I can absolutely see. Remember calm down, hey, Mike,
- 1:57:51Speaker 1: Remember when I have to go to the bathroom. I
- 1:57:54Speaker 1: saw TikTok and Joe Burrow talking about like just going
- 1:57:57Speaker 1: down rabbit holes on YouTube about is X and I
- 1:58:00Speaker 1: was just like, oh, he likes first two. Yeah you
- 1:58:03Speaker 1: said going. I thought that was going in another direction.
- 1:58:06Speaker 1: But anyway, I am also with Cincinnati in this game,
- 1:58:10Speaker 1: by the way, Um, I'm with the Chiefs. Yeah. I
- 1:58:14Speaker 1: do have a little fear of Patrick Mahomes is a
- 1:58:17Speaker 1: home dog. I think it's only the second time. You know.
- 1:58:20Speaker 1: The other thing, are we not giving enough credit to
- 1:58:23Speaker 1: the Chiefs defense, especially up front? I don't think the
- 1:58:27Speaker 1: Chiefs defense is all that, you know. Yeah, so Paul
- 1:58:30Speaker 1: clearly isn't giving any credit. I'm not. No, I don't
- 1:58:32Speaker 1: think they're bad. I don't think Buffalo's defense is bad either.
- 1:58:34Speaker 1: They eviscerated it last week, so you know, I think
- 1:58:38Speaker 1: that they'll probably play more man than Buffalo traditionally does.
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: But I think Buffalo was kind of forced to do
- 1:58:45Speaker 1: that last week because of their personnel issues. But Chris
- 1:58:49Speaker 1: Jones is awesome. Chris Jones is a defensive Player of
- 1:58:51Speaker 1: the Year candidate. And if that issue that I thought
- 1:58:57Speaker 1: was going to happen last week with Cincinnati's offensive line,
- 1:59:00Speaker 1: if that takes place, Fred will be right. He'll have
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: that that defensive line. That's a good key it's capable
- 1:59:05Speaker 1: of recond at a point. This is definitely a tho.
- 1:59:09Speaker 1: This is who I want to win, pick, not who
- 1:59:11Speaker 1: I think is gonna win. I'm going with the Chiefs. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:59:15Speaker 1: I won't be upset off the Chiefs win, and whoever
- 1:59:17Speaker 1: wins the AFC game i'll root for. In the super Bowl,
- 1:59:19Speaker 1: I'm for the Eagles line. I'll be upset when they
- 1:59:22Speaker 1: have a little family like group hug and everyone's all
- 1:59:25Speaker 1: dressed up like I never saw anybody. I never saw
- 1:59:28Speaker 1: anybody get upset at other people's successes. Like Mike oh no,
- 1:59:32Speaker 1: oh man, it was just the same. It's just like,
- 1:59:33Speaker 1: I don't know, doesn't everybody like him. He looks like
- 1:59:36Speaker 1: he's enjoying it. He was drummed out of Hollywood. He
- 1:59:38Speaker 1: looks like a lot of resistent right, he looks like
- 1:59:40Speaker 1: he's enjoying it. I don't care for that. He's got
- 1:59:43Speaker 1: resentment all those people who made it freaking with the
- 1:59:46Speaker 1: whole family. What are they the Hunts get out, the
- 1:59:48Speaker 1: Hunts out? What have they ever done? Right? Yellow, I'm
- 1:59:51Speaker 1: just imagining them like all ob they're going shopping for like, oh,
- 1:59:53Speaker 1: this is the perfect red color. If you're my Chief
- 1:59:56Speaker 1: and dress some yellow. I'll look Chief season. He just
- 2:00:00Speaker 1: end up the entirety of Patriots Nation right there, all right,
- 2:00:02Speaker 1: That's why they love them. That's going to be in
- 2:00:04Speaker 1: for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered. Everybody, have a good
