- 0:51Speaker 1: A, we all, welcome to today's show. We are actually
- 1:03going to begin wrapping up the Ten Commandments today. Now
- 1:06I say it again because although we will cover the
- 1:10ninth and tenth Commandment, there is so much related teaching
- 1:17and information that folllowsh Sparago is going to tell us
- 1:20so much if it gets left out In modern katechises,
- 1:24so much of it is almost exclusive to Catholicism, although
- 1:28it should be universal, because a lot of people just
- 1:31don't know stuff, and each generation we seem to know
- 1:34less than the generation before, which is one reason why
- 1:37I like to go back to old books like Polish
- 1:38Sparago's Exhaustive Explanation of the Catechism, which is published in
- 1:43about eighteen ninety or so. But as usual, we will
- 1:46start with a couple questions and answers from the book
- 1:50radio replies written by Well as I always tell you,
- 1:54I've probably told you this ten times now. The two
- 1:56priests in the I Guess nineteen thirties began taking questions
- 2:01and answers from non Catholics, usually very anti Catholics, over radio,
- 2:06and these books are compilation. They're just wonderful. And for
- 2:09the past two episodes, a communist has really been grilling them.
- 2:13And he has a big problem with any wealth held
- 2:17by the church. And in his first question today, he says,
- 2:20can you blame governments for confiscating the property of the
- 2:23church and giving it back to the people, And they
- 2:25say yes. The government has no claim whatsoever on private
- 2:28property unless in extreme necessity it has to confiscate or
- 2:35appropriate from all citizens Alike. Our Catholic people voluntarily erect
- 2:40permanent buildings for the needs of their religion. Others have
- 2:44just as much money, in fact more than Catholics. If
- 2:46the government confiscates the useful results of Catholic generosity with
- 2:51surplus earnings, then it has the right to confiscate the
- 2:53surplus money of everyone else, above all when it is
- 2:57not put to good use, as for giving it back
- 2:59to the people. There is no church on earth which
- 3:02can compare with the Catholic Church for the number of charities,
- 3:05number of charitable institutions. She has more hospitals for the sick,
- 3:08orphanages for destitute children, homes for the age and dying,
- 3:12for the deaf and dumb, and etc. Than all other
- 3:16churches put together. And the person says, the workers of
- 3:20the world do not admit that large edifices and tracts
- 3:23of land are necessary to do the Lord's work. So
- 3:27workers of the world at obvious communists. They used to
- 3:29call them the wabbles, if I remember correctly the Wow
- 3:34They were communist activists who are very big in the
- 3:36union movement. They answer, the opinion of the one doing
- 3:41the work is more value than of the of the onlooker.
- 3:44The Church knows that these temporal things are necessary anyway.
- 3:48These properties have been honestly and laboriously acquired by charitable
- 3:51minded citizens, and are held in their name and are
- 3:54not actually theirs, only because they have freely resigned ownership
- 3:59of them to God. They certainly do not belong to
- 4:02the clergy, and it is quite unjust for other citizens
- 4:05to talk of confiscating them. Remember that, besides beautifying the
- 4:09cities of the world, the greater part of the expense
- 4:12expenses of these churches, cathedrals institutions has gone in wages
- 4:16to the workers. That's right, a lot of unionized workers
- 4:19actually build a lot of those cathedrals. And such person says,
- 4:22the rich belong to your church is convenient, And they answer,
- 4:26the poor who belonged to the Catholic Church far exceed
- 4:28the number of the rich. As for convenience, the Catholic
- 4:31Church is the most inconvenient of all to live up to,
- 4:35although I admitt it is convenient to die in since
- 4:37it fits one so well for one's meeting with God.
- 4:41Person says, each convert you make means more revenue. But
- 4:44where's the advantage to the convert? And they answer, if
- 4:48the new convert did contribute to the support of his religion,
- 4:51that would already be an advantage to him. If Christ
- 4:54rightly committed the poor, commended the poor widow who gave
- 4:57her might to the temple. Even if a convert could
- 5:01give nothing, he would be nonetheless welcome. The Catholic Church
- 5:04never wants anyone for what he will bring her, but
- 5:07for what she can give him absolution for his sins.
- 5:10Christ is his savior, and the guests of his heart,
- 5:13and holy communion relief after his death, and heaven and
- 5:16the end. It is all very much to the advantage
- 5:18of the convert. And the communist continues, there are thousands
- 5:23living on the gullibility of the poor, And they answer,
- 5:26there are thousands giving their lives to the service of God,
- 5:29and their fellow men, their fellow men making return, but
- 5:32not by giving their lives, but by giving a small
- 5:34percentage of their temporal goods. One's life is more precious
- 5:38and a greater gift than a portion of that life's earnings.
- 5:41And the guy says everybody is after riches, including religious teachers.
- 5:46And they say that it's not true. The thousands of priests, brothers,
- 5:49and nuns who have vowed poverty in the religious orders
- 5:52of the Catholic Church never receive a penny personally in wages.
- 5:55They were nouce a possession and administration of property, and
- 5:59are given me. I'm given merely such shelter, food, and
- 6:02clothing as are absolutely necessary. Those priests who do not
- 6:06undertake this obligation of poverty are entitled to such a
- 6:09revenue as the people provide in the work return in
- 6:13return for a life work on their behalf. All right,
- 6:19we'll wrap it up on that one for today. The
- 6:21Communists will go on for several more questions. Communists really
- 6:25hate the Church, Christianity in general, but especially the Catholic Church,
- 6:30so we can expect this to be quite contentious. But
- 6:34we will go on to the ninth commandment. Now, Father
- 6:39Spirago does not spend any time on the ninth Commandment.
- 6:42He says, see what is said concerning this or the
- 6:44sixth Commandment and respecting the sacrament of matrimony, and also
- 6:48the words of our Lord in Matthew five twenty eight
- 6:50Saint Paul one Corinthian six. So I refer you back
- 6:55to our show on the sixth Commandment, and it was
- 6:57all covered very extensively. And now we will get on
- 6:59to the tenth Commandment. In the tenth Commandment, God forbids
- 7:04us to endeavor to possess ourselves of the property of
- 7:08another's of another by unlustful means, So covening leads to theft,
- 7:15and theft and covening are both forbidden. So that's what
- 7:18we're talking about here. And in discussing this, this commandment,
- 7:24the tenth you'll find out exactly why socialist and communists
- 7:28hate the Catholic Church so much. They are actually in
- 7:32exact opposition to several of the commandments, especially though against
- 7:37covetousness and envy and theft. Kind of what they're all
- 7:43based on is saying they have a right to someone
- 7:46on someone else's property even though they did nothing to
- 7:48earn it. In God's sight, the will is equivalent to
- 7:52the deed. Evil desires are sinful as well as evil deeds,
- 7:56and the act is accomplished in will. Therefore, transgressions of
- 7:59this commandment must not be omitted in confession under the
- 8:03now under the topic of socialism, which he preaches against
- 8:07in this writing about the tenth Commandment, in our own day,
- 8:12a large proportion of the so called socialists or social
- 8:15democrats aim at depriving their fellow man of their private
- 8:19property by unjust means. Social democracy or the rule of
- 8:24the people proposes to be to reconstruct human society. It
- 8:29is of recent origin, being first started in Germany and
- 8:33nineteen I mean in eighteen forty, of course eighteen forty,
- 8:36and propagated some ten years later by the notorious Karl
- 8:40Marx in eighteen sixty two. LaSalle was very successful in
- 8:46spreading socialistic doctrines, so much so that in eighteen seventy
- 8:50eight a special law was passed for the suppression of socialism.
- 8:54Associations and meetings were prohibited, publications advanced advocating its principles
- 8:59were sees, and the leading agitators were banished from several
- 9:04In several of the large towns or from several of
- 9:06the large towns. From that time forward, the work of
- 9:09propagation was carried on covertly in the workshops and club
- 9:14meetings being held in the woods and pamphlets circulated privately.
- 9:20In eighteen eighty a Socialist at Congress was held in Zurich,
- 9:23attended by members from all the countries of Europe, to
- 9:26arrange a general program for the universal upheaval of society
- 9:30and subversion of the existing order of things. Since the
- 9:34system has made steady progress and assumed it has assumed
- 9:38a revolutionary character, those who resort to open acts of
- 9:42violence in order to accelerate the disintegration of society are
- 9:45called anarchists. Switzerland is a hotbed of socialism, and there
- 9:51the principal organs of society are printed. Socialism has gained ground,
- 9:55chiefly in the continent of Europe. That was of course
- 9:58very true in the late eighteen hundreds leading to the
- 10:01Bolshevik Revolution and so much more. But now it's at
- 10:05least as popular communism, socialism and anarchy, and under the
- 10:10guise of anti fascism, which is ridiculous because socialism and
- 10:14communism and Nazism and everything is inherently fascist. There is
- 10:18no room for the individual whatsoever. All properties must be
- 10:22held in common, and everyone must believe and think the
- 10:25same thing. Every be punished by the state. That's the
- 10:29very definition. And of course they're too dumb to know
- 10:32that the fundamental principle of socialism is all property has
- 10:37been unjustly acquired. Consequently, in the new Republic, no one
- 10:41is to possess any personal property, but it's to be
- 10:44provided for out of the public funds. Everyone must work
- 10:48and where the proceeds of his labor purchase what he needs.
- 10:52In the new Republic of the extreme socialists, there is
- 10:55to be neither the ordinance of religion nor the institutions
- 10:59of law. These men openly declare themselves to be atheists,
- 11:04and they say religion concerns the individual. And they are
- 11:08what he caused republicans, which means they worship the republic
- 11:12or the state, not the not God, different use of
- 11:16the same term in different errors. And the intercourse of
- 11:20men and women is to take the place of wedlock.
- 11:22And yes, they've been dedicated to destroying marriage all along,
- 11:26and just recently they had a Black Lives Matter said
- 11:28that you know, they really weren't on the concerned about
- 11:31black stuff or racial equality or whatever. They wanted to
- 11:33destroy the family as their main goal. It hasn't changed.
- 11:37This is Karl Mark's goal, and it's you know now
- 11:40Bernie Sanders' goal. And all this transcrap. The children are
- 11:47to belong not to their parents but to the state. Again,
- 11:49look at all this transcrap. To be educated at the
- 11:53public expense, a public kitchen is to supersede the domestic hearth.
- 11:57Prisons would not be needed, for there would be no criminals,
- 11:59since all crime comes from the possession of private property.
- 12:02Notice all these George Soros back das that refuse to
- 12:05prosecute criminals. These principles, and of course black lives matter
- 12:11and all that. You know, the riots. Nobody got punished for, murders, rapes, thefts,
- 12:16burn arsons, nobody got punished. These principles have spread chiefly
- 12:21among the irreligious, who care only for the gratification of
- 12:24their appetites, and the lower orders the proletariat, who, in
- 12:27the division of property, have nothing to lose and nothing
- 12:30at all to gain. They are mostly held by certain
- 12:34ones of the laboring class who have been thrown by
- 12:36peculiar instances into the arms of socialism. Well, those people
- 12:41rarely labor anymore. In fact, these socialists and communists in
- 12:45our country tend to be the highly educated, what most
- 12:50wealthy members of our society. Let's see if I say
- 12:53that again, the most highly educated and most wealthy members
- 12:57of our society, and those on government assistance, welfare and
- 13:02you know, Medicaid and all that food stamps, that's where
- 13:05you're going to find them. Those who actually work for
- 13:08a living, the laboring classes are not anymore. That's why,
- 13:14you know, regardless what the union leaders do and endorsing
- 13:17Kamala Harris or something, the union members are going to
- 13:20vote for Trump because they know his interests or their interests.
- 13:25The origin and development of socialism is chiefly to be
- 13:29ascribed in the increasing poverty of the working classes, the
- 13:32greed of gain and immoderate craving of enjoyment among the rich,
- 13:36and finally, the decrease of religious feeling in all classes
- 13:40of society. I think here, father Sparagam is an excellent point.
- 13:43Is it is validcom from an economics perspective, remember my
- 13:48backgrounds and economics. It is valid in a societal you know,
- 13:54sociology way of looking at things is very valid in
- 13:57Catholic teaching that industrialization was quite disruptive, and that one
- 14:05of the main causes for the fast growth of communism
- 14:10was the workers being taken advantage of by factory owners
- 14:13and meal owners and coal buying operators and such as that,
- 14:17et cetera, et cetera. No doubt about that unbridled greed
- 14:22is wrong, whether it's the greed of a meal owner
- 14:27making people work long hours in bad conditions for low
- 14:30pay so he can make as much money as possible,
- 14:33or it's the greed of a socialist or communists that
- 14:35gets a government position then tries to take everybody's money
- 14:38from them. Both are equally wrong, actually, and they both
- 14:42lead to inequality and abuse. And you know, the Catholic
- 14:47position is actually the only moral position. As in the
- 14:52human body disorders for the most part originating in the stomach,
- 14:56so discontent among the people generally arises from material want.
- 15:00The prevailing destitution among the lower orders is partly due
- 15:03to the employment of machinery. Machines can produce in a
- 15:07few days more than one hundred workmen can in a month,
- 15:10and goods can be manufactured at a far cheaper rate
- 15:12by machinery than when made by hand. Consequently, hundreds are
- 15:16thrown out of employment. Through the introduction of machinery, wealth
- 15:20is accumulated in the hands of the manufacturers, and the
- 15:23number of poor and discontented has increased from day to day,
- 15:27swelling the ranks of socialism. The employers, striving to make
- 15:31larger profits, in many cases, do not treat their work
- 15:33people according to the maxims of the Gospel. They reduce
- 15:36their wages to a scanty pittance, patta and ce pittance,
- 15:42the market value of labor being so low, they require
- 15:46them to work for a lengthened period. They heed not
- 15:48the bodily health to those whom they employ, and even
- 15:51destroy their sense of religious religion immorality. These and other
- 15:55evils naturally have the effect of rendering the workmen irreligious
- 15:58and discontent discontented. Factory hands employed constantly in working machinery
- 16:03are apt to lose their mental vigor and independence. They
- 16:07perform their texts mechanically and are easily beguiled and misled.
- 16:11The exhaustion produced by long hours of labor disinclines them
- 16:14to raise their hearts to God. Thus they neglect their prayers.
- 16:18The wretched state of their homes where several families live
- 16:20crowded together on account of poverty caused by the low
- 16:23rate of wages, adds to their moral degradation. You may say, well, government,
- 16:28look what government in America with these people out of poverty.
- 16:31Well look what the socialist and communists and our government
- 16:33are doing to flood the country with low wage illegal
- 16:37immigrant labor who will live in exact poverty as father
- 16:41Spiago just described, and to increase lawlessness at the heart
- 16:47of it. They're always trying to destroy. You can call
- 16:52it Western society, you can call it christiandom, you can
- 16:54call it just Christian society. Christian I mean Christianity in general,
- 17:02but especially the Catholic Church. And yeah, I mean, why
- 17:07else do you let crime run rampant on your streets.
- 17:09You're trying to destroy something. You know. Tim Walls loved
- 17:13when his major cities were on fire, you know, to
- 17:15b olem riots. He said, he loved smelling the burning
- 17:18tires out the window. They want to destroy the entire
- 17:21system and put in a demand system, a communist, socialist,
- 17:26fascist system to deal control, you know, like the old
- 17:30saw by the who meet the new boss, same as
- 17:31the old boss. All they want to do is replace
- 17:34the factory owners of the early nineteen hundreds, the Rockefellers
- 17:38and Carnegie and all that with them as bureaucrats. They're
- 17:45still going to make everybody poor and in far worse
- 17:48condition because we won't have the family and religion or
- 17:51property that we can pass on or enjoy, grow food on,
- 17:56live on. I mean you know that Klaus schwas, You
- 18:00will own nothing and like it? No, what if you
- 18:02don't want to not? What if you don't like it?
- 18:05He's not giving you the choice, right? What if you
- 18:07know me, I grew up on a farm, if I
- 18:10won the lottery tomorrow or sold a ton of books
- 18:13or something. First thing I do buy acreage, have a
- 18:15farm in their system. That's not an option. You can
- 18:19be a tenant on that farm, but you'll make no
- 18:23profits from your labor. You'll work as hard as you can,
- 18:27work yourself to death. The guy besides you will do nothing,
- 18:30and you paid the same amount. Meanwhile, because they don't
- 18:33have market equity, market efficiency, I guess just to say
- 18:37most of the food's going to rot. There's no incentive
- 18:39for well anyway, Okay, I'm not going to get into
- 18:42an economics talk. We'll get back to this, but remember communism, socialism, progressivism, Nazism, liberalism,
- 18:51liberal democrats, social democrats, leftists, whatever you would call it,
- 18:55are inherently opposed to Catholicism, to Christianity in general, and
- 19:03to human nature because human nature was designed by God
- 19:06and their system is designed by Satan. All right, so
- 19:11um Moreover, the sight of the rich man's greed or
- 19:17money on the one hand, and his extravagant expenditure and
- 19:20love of luxury on the other, excites envy of the
- 19:23poor man and arouses in him the desires satisfy his
- 19:26idea of happiness at the cost of the capitalists. Thus
- 19:29God punishes the rich in the way they have sinned.
- 19:32The socialist is the scourge, wherewith he chastises them. In
- 19:37the present day, the Christian faith is more and more
- 19:39undermined by irreligious press, by godless associations, notably the Freemasons.
- 19:44Freemasons have been very much behind communism all along, and
- 19:49don't ever fall into this. It's rich versus poor ideology
- 19:52that the communists promote. Just look at who are the
- 19:56most powerful, wealthy people in the world. George Soros, Glaus Schwab.
- 20:03Look at how Joe Biden went to government, never worked
- 20:07a private sector job in his life on a very
- 20:11modest salary, and ends up with millions, and they just
- 20:14they just can't figure out how all this money came
- 20:16to them. For the Chinese for a noll apparent reason. Uh.
- 20:19Nancy Pelosi, one of the richest actually mafia families in
- 20:22the country, became a socialist Democrat. Uh. We could go
- 20:25on down that list. The Kennedys, uh left, I mean
- 20:30Ted Kennedy was actually, according to the Venona documents, a
- 20:34Soviet agent. So yeah, John Carey, these are very very
- 20:42very well wealthy people, very very very wealthy people. Gosh,
- 20:48we go down some of the I mean the Rock
- 20:50of Uh, you know, Rockefellers have always been mining this stuff.
- 20:55We'd get into the what's that wealthy Jewish family from France,
- 21:01that Rothchilds, that was the name I was trying to
- 21:05come up with. Always been very behind left wing socialist politics. Wow.
- 21:11I mean yeah, I mean literally those titans of industry
- 21:17that were causing all that inequality were also the ones
- 21:21funding the communists and socialists. So anyway, and still are
- 21:26to this day. I mean, look at the money behind
- 21:30I mean, go the Tides Foundation. Look at who was
- 21:32funding Acorn before it was dissolved. Yeah, big time. So anyway,
- 21:39in the present day, the Christian faith is more and
- 21:42more undermined by irreligious press, by godless associations, notably the Freemasons.
- 21:47And you know, all of our presence except maybe two
- 21:50have been members of the Masonic Order. Uh don't know,
- 21:53don't ever forget that. And in some lands, by anti
- 21:57Christian legislation, witnessed the exclusion of religious auction from schools.
- 22:01What wonder if the belief in God in the future
- 22:04and a future life grows from him, the divine commandments
- 22:06are unheeded and the people craving for happiness in this
- 22:09life seek to wrest His wealth from their richer neighbor.
- 22:13In other words, if you don't believe in God, why
- 22:14shouldn't he steals from somebody. If the dangers wherewithin socialism
- 22:21threatens us are to be averted, the condition of the
- 22:24laboring class must be ameliorated, The rich must be liberal
- 22:27towards the poor, and religion must gain her place in
- 22:29the hearts of people. See that's the ultimate answer. Course
- 22:32of measures will do no more good to socialists than
- 22:36random blows will correct a naughty child. If anything is
- 22:39to be done for him, it must be done through kindness.
- 22:41Above all, the employer must deal with his work people
- 22:44according to the principle of Christianity injustice. Cutler is right
- 22:49when he says, if for one day we all act
- 22:51in conformity with the teaching of the Gospel, all social
- 22:54evils would be at once swept away. The employer must
- 22:58pay his men properly. That is their way. Just must
- 23:00be sufficient to support a Christian family suitably to their station,
- 23:04provided their thrifty industries and virtues. The position of the
- 23:07workmen must be secured. He must not be treated as chattel.
- 23:11Only to be employed. As long as a good profit
- 23:13is to be made out of him, and the workman
- 23:16pays taxes, he is entitled to the privilege of the franchise.
- 23:19In other words, the workman pays taxes, he should be
- 23:21able to vote. I would go so far as says,
- 23:24unless one pays taxes or as a landowner, one should
- 23:27not be able to vote. But that's just me. That's
- 23:30just what our founding fathers thought. You know, who were
- 23:33they to say anything? They only wrote the Declaration of
- 23:35Independence in the Constitution. As the workman pays, yeah, opportunities
- 23:40of improving his mind should be afforded him by the
- 23:43institutions of libraries, evening classes, information of working men's clubs,
- 23:47which the Holy Father strongly advocates. Once such was the
- 23:52Knights of Columbus. It was one of the reasons it
- 23:54was founded that and to provide insurance for Catholics, like
- 23:58the Masons Moose lodges and such were providing for their members.
- 24:03Legislation must also, I think odd Fellows is one Masons
- 24:07and Oddfellows. I think we're the two big ones back
- 24:08in the early nineteen hundreds. Legislation must also interfere with
- 24:13to prevent the undue growth of the proletariat through the
- 24:16absorption of lesser industries by the manufacturers. That means actually
- 24:21be against monopolies. It's a really good position to have.
- 24:24It was once a Catholic position, and now no one
- 24:28ever talks about it except Donald Trump, you know. And
- 24:30the accumulation of capital in the hands of a few plutocrats.
- 24:34The rich ought, as the Apostle says, to give easily
- 24:37and communicate to others. One Timothy six eighteen. Now more
- 24:42than ever, the rich are bound to give alms, otherwise
- 24:44they will be righteously judged. But religion affords the most
- 24:48effectual means of combating socialism. Social democracy is too often
- 24:53nothing but the absence of religious belief. Its chief dogma
- 24:56is the non existence of God and of a future life.
- 25:00Chief commandment is the gratification of the senses. Moreover, religion
- 25:04alone can give to the poor of the spirit of
- 25:06contentment so essential to their happiness. Some of the socialistic
- 25:11theories could not possibly realize, while others might indeed be
- 25:14carried out, but they would be attended by fatal consequences.
- 25:17Now again, remember this is before the bulls of the resolution.
- 25:22We would soon see exactly what it leads to. Two
- 25:24hundred million deaths of the people that are supposed to
- 25:27be cared for by that socialistic government, not including the
- 25:30enemies or all the abortions or etc. But deaths of
- 25:34their own citizens at the hands of the government. They're
- 25:37revolting in favor of the universal equality which socialists proposed
- 25:42to bring about is an utterly impracticable idea, especially in
- 25:46regard to property. For if the state apportioned to everyone,
- 25:49the exact amount required for his livelihood, one more probable
- 25:53than that one would spend it all, and another put
- 25:56a little bit by save a bit. Thus an inequality
- 26:00immediately arise, and to enforce the surrender of a man's
- 26:03savings would be sheer tyranny. The same endless variety which
- 26:07we see in nature exists among mankind. Differences of age,
- 26:10of sex, of health, of physical power, and mental endowments,
- 26:14and above all character and manners cannot be effaced. And
- 26:18from these differences of position and possessions are inseparable. Just
- 26:23as in an army, all the soldiers cannot be officers,
- 26:26and nor all privates, so all members of society cannot
- 26:29stand at the same level. Some must manage the business
- 26:32of the state or occupy themselves in military affairs, and
- 26:36they must naturally hold a higher rank than other members
- 26:38of the state, because they work more exclusively for the
- 26:41common will or well being. The happiness of socialist dreams
- 26:46is not attainable upon earth. Whatever the exertions that may
- 26:51be made to ameliorate the lot of man here below,
- 26:55none can succeed in eliminating from its suffering sickness and death.
- 26:59So are in suffering of the portions of mankind. A
- 27:01life of peace and enjoyment is not for this world.
- 27:04True happiness is to be found. True happiness is not
- 27:08to be found in sensual pleasures, but in God. While
- 27:12the whole world lasts crime by some poverty cannot be
- 27:15banished from it. Our Lord says the poor, you will
- 27:18have with you always John twelve eight. And in regard
- 27:23to the proposed absorption of individual property by the state,
- 27:27this could not be accomplished without serious disservices, for who
- 27:31would be willing to surrender his property without a struggle
- 27:34and were community of goods Once introduced, tranquility would not
- 27:38be obtained. The oppressed minority would, out of revenge, commit
- 27:42fearful outrageous Besides, laborious and industrious individuals would not be
- 27:47content and they would gain nothing by their industry. Thus,
- 27:51the working classes would lose instead of gaining. Socialistic theories
- 27:55could only be realized if men were like the lower animals,
- 27:57the destitute of the love of liberty, liberty and the
- 28:01desire for improvement. Socialism would cast a blight upon culture
- 28:05and destroy all stimulus, all motives for exercise of invented genius.
- 28:11If you would exert themselves to make progress and aim
- 28:13at perfection. If they knew their achievements would bring them
- 28:16no reward, the socialistic republic would all be slaves. Very true,
- 28:22don't believe me. Visit your local housing products projects, your
- 28:27local housing projects. No man would exert himself to do
- 28:31better than another if he knew all was provided for him.
- 28:34There would be a premium upon slothfulness and negligence. Experience
- 28:38has shown that evils brought upon mankind by the examples
- 28:43of communities which had all their goods in common, and
- 28:45which have been noted for their crimes and have come
- 28:48to an ignominious end. But although the dreams of the
- 28:51socialists are mere fantasies of the brain, yet they wouldn't
- 28:54be for long. Like much else that is undesirable, they
- 28:57are not without a certain use. As a hurricane tears
- 29:00down what is rotten and crazy. So socialism points out
- 29:03the weak points in social structure and compares our rulers
- 29:06institute needful reforms. Well, it didn't work so well that way.
- 29:12Attention has been drawn pre eminently to the exportion of
- 29:15labor by the capitalists, and the claims that the poor
- 29:17have brought tends to notice. Yet the harms done by
- 29:20socialists is far greater than any possible good it may
- 29:24directly or indirectly produce. All who endeavor, by unlawful means
- 29:30to deprive their neighbor of his personal property live in
- 29:33a state of mortal sin. That's the big thing behind
- 29:38thou shalt not steal. Okay, the mere fact of coveting
- 29:44what belongs to another is a sin. That's why covetousness
- 29:47and theft and adultery all go hand in hand. The
- 29:51mere fact of covening what belongs to another is a sin.
- 29:54We know that all sin brings others in their train,
- 29:57and this is no exemption to this rule. Saint Paul says,
- 30:01the inordinate desire of money is the root of all
- 30:03evils Fir Timothy six ' ten. And the utterances of
- 30:07socialists that they're gathering prove the truth of these words.
- 30:10Their speeches are often abound with virulent attacks upon all
- 30:14in authority, on the pope, on priests and civil magistrates.
- 30:18Some go so far as to assert that perjury in
- 30:22a court of law is permissible if it furthers their
- 30:25own interests. That's actually one of the tenets of communism
- 30:28and socialism. I mean, that's Mark said it, and they
- 30:31all pretty much go in for that. As far as
- 30:34I know, we know the crimes of which anarchists have
- 30:37been guilty dynamite outrages and assassinations. At this point they
- 30:41were setting off a lot of bombs and shooting people.
- 30:45That's what led up to the revolutions. Let them not
- 30:47be said in behalf of their principles a socialists that
- 30:50the early Christians had all things in common for the
- 30:53voluntary sharing of goods is quite different to what the
- 30:55socialists proposed to in force the fundamental principle of Christian charity,
- 30:59which church is alms given. Is this alms giving is
- 31:02this brother, what is mine is thine? Whereas the socialist says, brother,
- 31:08what is thine is mine. In other words, charities when
- 31:12you share what you have. Socialism is when you force
- 31:15someone to give you what they have at the point
- 31:18of a gun. It's the only difference between robbery is
- 31:24an individual with a gun as opposed to the state
- 31:28taking through taxation or confiscation. But in the end the
- 31:32enforcement manner, the enforcement is always carried through at the
- 31:38point of a gun. Don't believe me, try not to
- 31:40pay your taxes. Someone's going to come to your house
- 31:43and arrest you. If you resist arrest, what's going to happen?
- 31:46A gun again. A socialist point to religious orders where
- 31:52all properties of the community, they say, what is possible
- 31:56for them is possible for the state of the future.
- 31:58There is, however, no one knowledge analogy between the two.
- 32:02For voluntary property and obedience form the basis of religious
- 32:06life while in the state of the futures, while in
- 32:10the state of the future sensual gratifications are to be encouraged.
- 32:16There is, however, no analogy between the two. For voluntary
- 32:20poverty obedience form the basis of religious life, while in
- 32:23the state of futural sensual gratifications are to be encouraged
- 32:28and enjoyed. That is a tongue twister and a half.
- 32:31For some reason, I don't know why I'm stumbling over this,
- 32:33but what they're saying is the religious give up their belongings.
- 32:39They become willingly impoverished, looking forward to a future reward
- 32:45in heaven. Whereas in the state, all one has, or
- 32:50in the view of the socialist, all one has as
- 32:54essentual gratifications of this life. And I think we're going
- 32:59to work. I'm going to wrap it up there since
- 33:02I am getting so tongue tied, and that actually does
- 33:06conclude the Ten Commandments in this section. We will begin
- 33:13on what a lot, what the Commandments mean for us,
- 33:17what they require of us in our next podcast with
- 33:20the Works of Mercy, and this follows naturally onto this
- 33:26subject we discussed today. It falls very naturally in here,
- 33:31but it really does relate to the whole body of
- 33:34the Ten Commands. So y'all remember the words of Saint
- 33:37Padre Pio, pray, hope and don't worry, and I will
- 33:39talk to you next time.
