Speaker 1: Welcome to episode 93 of Project Geekology where, quite frankly, I don't think we're going to be coming back from this one.
• 0:07
Speaker 1: I'm one half of your host, anthony, and joining me as always is Dakota and why don't you think we're coming back from this?
• 0:14
Speaker 2: Are we going to be sent to the void?
• 0:15
Speaker 2: Are we going to be having to face off against Alioth or maybe even Cassandra Nova?
• 0:20
Speaker 1: Right, you know, we just we're going to be making a name for ourselves, but there's a high possibility that we will not be coming back from this.
• 0:27
Speaker 2: All right, but we've we've waited a long time for this.
• 0:29
Speaker 2: 93 episodes, a couple years worth of podcasting for this moment, and it's all come together coalesced into the end of what a 14 episode project where we covered all the fox x-men stuff yeah, we covered a lot of episodes, or we covered a lot of movies, man it's crazy, like I remember when we were just like in the midst of it and it feels like we started it, like yesterday, you know yeah, starting with the first x-men movie was so fun, and then going into not only the original trilogy but revisiting the x-men side movies was also just a lot of fun, because I haven't revisited those in literal years.
• 1:05
Speaker 2: And then, of course, we have the rebooted x-men first class series where they did like one movie for every decade leading up to, I guess, the 2000s, which is supposed to be like when the original trilogy takes place.
• 1:17
Speaker 2: Some of those I had never seen, like apocalypse and dark phoenix, were new to me as well as new mutants.
• 1:23
Speaker 2: So going into those movies through the podcast, like reviewing them one at a time in release order, was such a fun project to do within Project Geekology.
• 1:32
Speaker 2: So if you guys have been following along, thank you.
• 1:35
Speaker 2: This is the potentially final number in the X-Men saga that we've committed to here on the podcast, but who knows, maybe we'll see some more X-Men soon, true, but yeah, as far as like the fox x-men stuff, well, I mean, we finished the fox x-men movies with new mutants.
• 1:53
Speaker 1: today we're going to be covering deadpool wolverine, which is going to be you know, that's a disney movie, but it is also a like farewell to all of those Fox movies.
• 2:04
Speaker 2: It's almost like a big end credit scene for the Fox universe, Right, right?
• 2:09
Speaker 2: So yeah, we're going to be talking about all things Deadpool and Wolverine and we're excited because I think at this point we've seen it twice each of us.
• 2:21
Speaker 2: Yes, I saw it again last week and I saw it yesterday.
• 2:24
Speaker 2: We're recording or no?
• 2:26
Speaker 2: I saw it Mondayay.
• 2:27
Speaker 2: Yeah, we record on wednesdays usually and I saw it on monday, but yeah.
• 2:30
Speaker 2: So before we dive into any of that, anthony, what have you been up to this past week?
• 2:34
Speaker 2: Actually, it's only been a couple days.
• 2:35
Speaker 1: We recorded last on sunday right, yeah, so well, I mean preparing for this.
• 2:40
  Speaker 1: I had watched.
• 2:41
Speaker 1: Well, I mean between the last time we recorded and the up until this point, really not not a lot we have.
• 2:49
Speaker 1: I don't know if I'm gonna get it right away, I might wait until next week for payday, but we do have star wars outlaws coming out and there's been some like people aren't hating it.
• 3:01
Speaker 1: You know like they're like it's.
• 3:02
Speaker 1: It's like it could have been worse but it could have been better.
• 3:05
Speaker 1: You know like it's fun right so I'm I'm interested in seeing a bit more of that and I I do want to check it out and stuff, because I think that that's pretty cool that they finally have a star wars game that we can kind of navigate, you know, through space and whatnot and kind of.
• 3:20
Speaker 1: We should do, we should do star wars outlaws episode are you gonna get outlaws?
• 3:24
Speaker 1: I'll do it for that.
• 3:25
  Speaker 1: Yeah, all right.
• 3:26
Speaker 1: Yeah, oh no, I was.
• 3:27
Speaker 1: I was gonna get it.
• 3:27
Speaker 2: I was gonna get it anyway, I was.
• 3:29
Speaker 2: I was actually excited about the game.
• 3:31
Speaker 2: But yeah, so we can definitely make a star wars outlaws podcast.
• 3:35
Speaker 2: Is that something you want to do, like next week, or you want to know?
• 3:39
Speaker 2: Yeah, I want to give that a little bit of.
• 3:41
Speaker 1: We've got to give it some time to marinate and be able to play a little bit before we can actually let that percolate right, right, right right, to really give ourselves a chance to really formulate our opinion on it.
• 3:53
Speaker 1: And yeah, man, yeah, I think that that would be cool, I think it would be fun to cover.
• 3:57
Speaker 1: It's been a while since we've covered a video game, so what was the last one that we covered?
• 4:01
Speaker 2: was it kingdom hearts?
• 4:02
Speaker 2: No overwatch, it's been.
• 4:04
Speaker 1: It's been so so long our.
• 4:07
Speaker 1: I think the last one that we did was the mini, so that I did on overwatch too.
• 4:13
Speaker 1: Okay, that makes sense.
• 4:14
Speaker 1: Oh, I did do, uh, a monster hunter one.
• 4:18
Speaker 1: You crazy, I did a monster hunter one, I did, I did a halo one, yeah, so I think all right.
• 4:25
Speaker 2: So we've got a couple minisodes in the bucket for a few gamers out there.
• 4:29
Speaker 2: What we're going to do a star wars outlaws podcast soon, hopefully within the next couple weeks, probably not next week just because we want to give ourselves some time to, you know, play through at least most of the game before diving into that.
• 4:41
Speaker 2: But yeah, I did you have anything else to say before you turned it over to me?
• 4:45
Speaker 1: oh no, no, really just kind of looking forward to that, and I've been.
• 4:49
Speaker 1: Oh well, we did have I.
• 4:51
Speaker 1: I haven't gotten that yet, but we did get the.
• 4:54
Speaker 1: The new expansion for world of warcraft came out on the 26th.
• 4:57
Speaker 2: Oh, okay, what I remember hearing the news a while back that they were releasing three expansions in quick succession.
• 5:03
Speaker 2: Is this one of those three expansions?
• 5:05
  Speaker 1: right.
• 5:05
Speaker 1: This is the first of those how are people taking it?
• 5:08
Speaker 2: how are people like enjoying it?
• 5:09
Speaker 1: I haven't looked too much into the reception of it.
• 5:12
Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure that there are some opinions on it.
• 5:15
Speaker 1: I haven't really looked too much into that, but I mean one thing I know for certain is that you know.
• 5:20
Speaker 2: One thing I know for certain is that pc gamers have opinions oh yeah, absolutely oh yeah and sometimes they're not the prettiest opinions, not not the people.
• 5:28
Speaker 2: Pretty opinions cool man.
• 5:30
Speaker 2: I want to potentially check that out.
• 5:33
Speaker 2: I have to dive back into world of warcraft at some point, so might have to play through that yeah, I've been.
• 5:38
Speaker 1: I've been wanting you to, so that'd be awesome if you did at some point heck yeah yeah, no, but yeah, I don't have much that I've been up to.
• 5:46
  Speaker 1: How about you?
• 5:47
Speaker 1: What have you got going on?
• 5:49
Speaker 2: not too much from the few days that we have since recorded.
• 5:53
Speaker 2: I'm currently almost almost completed with all of the last airbender comics, specifically like the avatar ang comics.
• 6:02
Speaker 2: Remember last time on our last episode I mentioned that like I had read like about 20 something graphic novels.
• 6:08
Speaker 2: I'm going through all the short stories.
• 6:11
Speaker 2: There's a compilation book called the Lost Adventures Team Avatar Tales.
• 6:15
Speaker 2: Some of them are really charming.
• 6:16
Speaker 2: Some of them are like super skippable.
• 6:18
Speaker 2: A few of them add meaningfully to the canon.
• 6:22
Speaker 2: So I might incorporate some of those tidbits from the short stories into a, a larger narrative through like a timeline and stuff.
• 6:30
Speaker 2: So I I'm not sure about that yet.
• 6:32
Speaker 2: I'm definitely including the other comics into my timeline for avatar whenever that, you know, decides to come to fruition.
• 6:40
Speaker 2: So I'm debating what I'm going to be doing with the short stories and if I'm going to visualize them on like a timeline graphic at all.
• 6:46
Speaker 2: But I'm having fun with those.
• 6:47
Speaker 2: I just wanted to complete all of the like the published ang comics just so I can say like I've, you know, reached that milestone.
• 6:56
Speaker 2: You know I've never done it before.
• 6:57
  Speaker 1: So nice, nice.
• 6:59
Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't even know that they had that compilation of short stories, so that's cool yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm enjoying it Nice.
• 7:06
Speaker 1: Yeah, man, I know that I will be looking forward to checking out that storyline or the timeline for Avatar, so that'd be cool.
• 7:13
  Speaker 2: Thanks, homie.
• 7:14
Speaker 2: Yeah, thankfully we haven't done a whole lot since we last recorded so we can dive right into this review slash discussion, a spoiler review, because there's very little on this movie that like we can get through without spoilers.
• 7:27
Speaker 2: So if you have not seen deadpool, I keep wanting to say daredevil and wolverine it's not daredevil I wish I wish there was a daredevil and wolverine movie.
• 7:34
Speaker 2: I think that that'd be really fun.
• 7:35
Speaker 2: But this is a deadpool and wolverine movie.
• 7:37
Speaker 2: Did you know anthony little fun fact?
• 7:39
Speaker 2: Remember when project ecology used to do fun facts?
• 7:41
Speaker 2: That was fun um deadpool and wolverine.
• 7:45
Speaker 2: The original title for it was called deadpool and friend I, I saw that.
• 7:51
Speaker 2: Yeah, I saw that and apparently like that was leaked online and like everybody online hated it I didn't hate it, I just I thought it was kind of cheeky, but like a good chunk of people hated it.
• 8:01
Speaker 2: So then the next day when they like officially announced the title for deadpool 3, they changed it.
• 8:06
Speaker 2: Ryan reynolds basically told the marketing team to like mock up a deadpool and wolverine logo and they did really quick and people love that.
• 8:14
Speaker 2: So a lot of the people online that were saying like oh, this was the leaked title, basically were discredited.
• 8:21
Speaker 2: But later on ryan reynolds claims that that was actually the true and, like a lot of people were vindicated but you know it's.
• 8:29
Speaker 1: This is actually like crazy timing that we're we're doing this.
• 8:33
Speaker 1: What do you think?
• 8:34
Speaker 1: This will be the last time that we see hugh jackman as wolverine?
• 8:38
Speaker 2: no, no it's definitely not the last time.
• 8:40
Speaker 2: It'll be one of the last times, I think.
• 8:43
Speaker 2: I expect to see him at least one more time okay yeah, my theory and the prevailing theory but as far as I'm aware I'm probably the first person online that I saw with this theory is that the marvel cinematic universe as it stands has grown too big and marvel studios and disney know, you know, there are too many branches and not enough money to funnel it into creations that everyone is going to watch, which is why so many of the movies and shows lately have been hit or miss Right and some have been like outright flops at the box office or on Disney Plus.
• 9:21
Speaker 2: So the end game for the Marvel movies as they stand and this is my personal theory is that once this multiverse saga ends in Secret Wars, they will reboot their entire universe.
• 9:35
Speaker 1: Oh, you think so.
• 9:36
  Speaker 2: Narratively.
• 9:37
Speaker 2: I think they'll reboot the entire universe.
• 9:39
Speaker 2: It won't just be like a flat reboot, it'll be like something in the movie is restarting or reestablishing what canon is, and this will be a good opportunity for, you know, characters from the fox movies, the characters from, like, the toby mcguire movies, some of the sony movies, ghost rider and stuff like that.
• 10:01
Speaker 2: This will be a good opportunity because in the comics, secret Wars was an opportunity for them to merge universes and in the comics it was literally a way for them to define what is canon moving forward.
• 10:14
Speaker 2: I think they're using that in the films as well and in their cinematic universe as well.
• 10:19
Speaker 2: So I think there will be a MCU 2.0, basically, where some of the newer actors will remain, some of the actors that wish to stay on.
• 10:27
Speaker 2: Will you know, maybe we'll see more of people like Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange and newer actors like the girl who plays America, chavez and Miss Marvel and all those people.
• 10:42
Speaker 2: I think that the younger actors are likely going to stay, but some of the actors that have been into this universe going on 15 years by the time Secret Wars comes out it'll be almost 20 years that they've been in this universe they're going to want to move on and they're going to age out of their roles and I think Marvel wants to keep this going as long as they can.
• 11:02
Speaker 2: So they're going to have to get new blood.
• 11:04
Speaker 2: They're going to need a new Thor.
• 11:05
Speaker 2: They're going to need a new Hulk.
• 11:06
Speaker 2: They're going to need a new Iron man, you know.
• 11:10
Speaker 1: So, yeah, they're going to want to have kind of like a clean transition rather than being like a just straight up recasting.
• 11:16
  Speaker 2: Right.
• 11:16
Speaker 2: So this will be a good send off to a number of different characters and I think you know, and I think you know, having Hugh Jackman there one last time as Wolverine will be a great opportunity.
• 11:26
Speaker 2: You know, a great opportunity for him to maybe interact with Tobey Maguire and, you know, like the original Hulk or whatever, I think that that could be a really just.
• 11:46
Speaker 1: it'll be crazy and it'll be hectic, but I think it'll be fun, you know, and I think it's necessary for Marvel moving forward, you know.
• 11:48
Speaker 1: So, talking about Hugh Jackman, you know he's been on this whole adventure, as you know, logan Wolverine that I kind of looked back at what he did prior to that and, dude, he didn't do much, he was rather yeah he was unknown.
• 11:58
Speaker 1: So the reason why I I kind of looked back into it because I was looking on YouTube and there was it was like a video of a TV movie of Oklahoma and I was like, wait, is that Hugh Jackman?
• 12:12
Speaker 1: Hugh Jackman is in Oklahoma.
• 12:15
Speaker 1: And this was the year prior to him being Wolverine.
• 12:18
Speaker 1: This happened in 99.
• 12:20
Speaker 1: And then we got that in 2000.
• 12:22
Speaker 1: So but yeah, as I watched a little bit, I was like yeah, that is him.
• 12:24
Speaker 1: So I dug deeper to see what else he had done.
• 12:28
Speaker 1: Dude, he didn't do much at all.
• 12:29
Speaker 1: He had some like minor roles here and there.
• 12:31
Speaker 1: The role that he had in oklahoma was one of the leading roles, but yeah, no, like nothing huge like wolverine yeah, the the role of wolverine definitely changed his life for the better.
• 12:45
Speaker 2: It turned his stardom and just pushed him into the stratosphere.
• 12:48
Speaker 2: I think that, even though he was ready to be done with the role of Wolverine once Logan came out, you know that was a good 15 years of his life that he had been working on that character More actually, because he started work on that movie I think in 98 or 99.
• 13:02
Speaker 2: And Logan came out in 2017.
• 13:05
Speaker 2: So, yeah, he had a good almost two decades worth of time spent in that character in that headspace.
• 13:13
Speaker 2: So I think it was easy for him at that time to let go of the character.
• 13:16
Speaker 2: But you don't really let something as big as that go easily.
• 13:20
  Speaker 2: I don't think so.
• 13:22
  Speaker 2: I don't think this was a.
• 13:24
Speaker 1: I think this was a no-brainer for him to return one at least one last time for deadpool and wolverine right, and I think that he was in a place where he was like well, if I come back, you know I'll do it, if not, then you know I'm cool with how it ended, you know yeah, so jumping from deadpool 2 to deadpool 3, essentially deadpool and wolverine.
• 13:44
Speaker 2: How do you feel that wade Wade Wilson's narrative arc flowed from movie to movie Like are you happy with the way that his life went?
• 13:52
Speaker 2: Or, like you know what are your thoughts on?
• 13:54
  Speaker 1: it.
• 13:54
Speaker 1: It was definitely interesting because you see the aftermath of what happens at the end of Deadpool 2.
• 14:01
Speaker 1: They bring it up about how he kind of went back in time and saved everybody from dying.
• 14:06
Speaker 1: But you know, it's interesting because he was going through like a crisis, you know, like a identity crisis.
• 14:12
Speaker 1: He was trying to be more than just Deadpool.
• 14:16
Speaker 1: He wanted to be an Avenger, but that didn't pan out so well for him, so he kind of just got stuck.
• 14:22
Speaker 1: You know, it's something that I feel like a lot of people can kind of identify with, the feeling of being stuck, that he kind of just got stuck.
• 14:25
Speaker 1: You know, it's something that I I feel like a lot of people can kind of identify with, the feeling of being stuck.
• 14:28
Speaker 1: That's kind of like where he was, like he was kind of stuck and like he kind of wanted to let go of being deadpool.
• 14:34
Speaker 1: I guess he didn't want to do all the senseless killing, but I mean he slid right back into that real quickly.
• 14:39
Speaker 1: But but yeah, no, let's talk, let's, let's talk about that really quick.
• 14:45
Speaker 2: Let's talk about his identity crisis and his you know he talks to happy hogan.
• 14:50
Speaker 2: In the beginning he had a need to, I guess he had a need to become something more than what he was.
• 14:58
Speaker 2: He wanted to be an adventure, basically, and it's almost like a meta discussion of like this Fox character existing within a world where people go and watch Marvel movies.
• 15:09
Speaker 2: It was always second best.
• 15:11
Speaker 2: Even though the Deadpool movies were fantastic, everyone considered them.
• 15:15
Speaker 2: They're not Marvel, but it's Marvel adjacent.
• 15:19
Speaker 2: So he wanted that In reality.
• 15:21
Speaker 2: Ryan Reynolds, I'm sure, wanted that.
• 15:22
Speaker 2: So he wanted that in reality, like Ryan Reynolds, I'm sure, wanted that.
• 15:24
Speaker 2: But also like the character himself, being able to break the fourth wall, wanted that.
• 15:29
Speaker 2: I needed that justification of, like, you know, just being an existing.
• 15:34
Speaker 2: What I, you know as a timeline guy, that scene and you know the timeline of the movie is really bother.
• 15:40
Speaker 2: It bothers me, you know, just from the simple math that it takes to realize that doesn't make any sense.
• 15:46
Speaker 2: Next to logan so in deadpool's world the events of logan also happens.
• 15:53
Speaker 2: So in his timeline, logan dies and his body is, you know, slowly decaying for several years.
• 16:00
Speaker 2: But we know that logan takes place in 2029, like that's a very concrete fact within the logan movie that this takes place in 2029.
• 16:08
Speaker 2: So the happy hogan scene where deadpool is asking to become an avenger happens shortly before the events of infinity war, so before the snap, you know he comes and it's that's very specific.
• 16:19
Speaker 2: You know it was like march of 2018, so shortly like maybe a month or two before the events of infinity war.
• 16:26
Speaker 2: Then we jump forward six years in his timeline, so six years plus 2018 brings us to the summer of 2024, basically, which is when this movie comes out.
• 16:35
Speaker 2: And you know it's it's very common for movies to take place in the year and like time period that these events take place.
• 16:42
Speaker 2: But in his universe, in the summer of 2024, wolverine was already dead and like fully decayed, but that wouldn't have happened for another five years.
• 16:51
Speaker 2: So the timeline of this is a mess.
• 16:53
Speaker 2: I don't want to like sugarcoat it like it's it's bad, but I still love this movie, even though, like I have to like just, you know, shrug it off.
• 17:01
Speaker 2: You know, like what am I gonna do?
• 17:02
Speaker 2: It still uses like fox logic in a way to like get the timeline to make sense.
• 17:08
Speaker 1: It's the fox charm, you know it is the fox charm and they still, they still have it.
• 17:13
Speaker 1: Honestly, I didn't even think about that.
• 17:15
Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm pretty sure that.
• 17:17
Speaker 1: Yeah, in the logan movie it does say.
• 17:19
Speaker 1: There's somewhere on there that says 2029 like yeah, it's.
• 17:23
Speaker 2: It's not like a well-known fact, but like if you recently watch it and like, pay attention, yeah, you'll get that information you know.
• 17:29
Speaker 1: So yeah, it's, it's weird but some something that that like, really like, blew up after this movie came out was the the beginning sequence oh yeah, go ahead and talk about that.
• 17:41
  Speaker 1: Yes yeah, man.
• 17:42
Speaker 1: So in classic Deadpool style, we got it.
• 17:45
Speaker 1: And we didn't get in the first one, but we got it in the second one, where there's this whole music montage of him killing the second one.
• 17:53
Speaker 1: He was going after a bunch of, like you know, yakuza and gangsters and stuff.
• 17:58
Speaker 1: This one is a bunch of tva agents that are like after him and he's just like chopping them all down to and sinks.
• 18:06
Speaker 2: Bye, bye, bye yeah, which is such a funny introduction.
• 18:10
Speaker 2: What I love about these movies is that they're not like afraid to like use campy music or outdated pop singles to elevate corniness and funniness and potentially like heartwarming.
• 18:24
Speaker 2: You know like it's kind of weird, but like all the music choices in this movie are music choices no other superhero movie could get away with like you know it's a deadpool thing, but hey, man, you know that after this deadpool movie that that song was charting again.
• 18:39
Speaker 2: Man you know what else was.
• 18:40
Speaker 2: Charting is like a prayer oh yeah yeah, that was.
• 18:44
Speaker 2: I mean, I still have that stuck in my head.
• 18:46
  Speaker 1: Yeah, it's crazy.
• 18:47
Speaker 1: After that movie I was like, oh my gosh, like I heard that song everywhere, dude, it was like an earwig, it got stuck in everybody's head.
• 18:53
Speaker 1: And then, yeah, like a lot of people were telling me like, oh yeah, pretty much like almost all the song choices, like I loved the soundtrack.
• 19:01
Speaker 1: You know, come on, dude, deadpool, and like the placement of these songs are so, you know, it's just, it's the deadpool charm.
• 19:07
Speaker 2: It makes sense within a deadpool movie, you know yes, I, I totally agree, and it was fun with that opening montage or they were also like doing the introductory credits, you know, like director sean levy oh yeah, produced by you know while he was using adamantium pieces of wolverine skeleton to cripple and kill, like numerous tba agents.
• 19:31
Speaker 2: They cut that with like him doing the actual dance from the yeah, bye, bye, bye music video.
• 19:38
Speaker 1: It's fantastic yeah, it was.
• 19:40
  Speaker 1: It was hilarious.
• 19:41
Speaker 1: I think my favorite Deadpool movie that did that whole like funny intro credit thing was the first one, because it was just like oh, some guy you know.
• 19:50
Speaker 1: Like it didn't say any actual names, it's just like you know some guy that you know so and so yeah, I forgot about that so that was like one of my favorites because it was just like absolutely ridiculous.
• 20:00
Speaker 1: But as far as like intro sequences with like music and stuff, like this one was like it does take the cake.
• 20:07
Speaker 1: Yeah, though I will say deadpool 2 did really good also because I mean it was a montage to nine to five.
• 20:14
Speaker 2: Dolly parton bro yes, that was great.
• 20:16
Speaker 2: That was really fun and what I liked about the beginning, it was also a bit of a metatextual like discussion with the audience, because, well it was, it was definitely metatextual.
• 20:28
Speaker 2: So when this movie was first announced and when hugh jackman was announced to, you know, reprise his role as wolverine, they answered the question in an interview like will you be respecting what?
• 20:39
Speaker 2: You know what happens in the, the logan storyline?
• 20:42
Speaker 2: And they're like, oh yeah, that we're that movie is, you know, like we, we hold that with the utmost, utmost respect.
• 20:48
Speaker 2: We're not gonna be changing anything.
• 20:50
  Speaker 2: It's gonna be.
• 20:51
Speaker 2: You know we're, we're in good hands there.
• 20:53
Speaker 2: This is a different version of wolverine and like the first thing that wolver or that deadpool says is that will we respect what happens in logan and like the most perfect death of that character and he goes, absolutely not.
• 21:05
Speaker 2: So it was like a direct lie that they told the audience like a year and a half ago, as opposed to like what we actually see in the movie.
• 21:16
Speaker 2: So I thought that was really fun.
• 21:17
Speaker 1: Dude, this movie was a really fun movie and there were so many, so many cameos in this movie, bro.
• 21:26
Speaker 2: Yeah, it almost like were they even cameos.
• 21:28
Speaker 2: I think you know Jon Favreau's happy hogan was kind of a cameo.
• 21:32
Speaker 1: I would consider, like the saber tooth, a cameo I would consider saber tooth a cameo.
• 21:36
Speaker 1: I would consider chris evans a cameo yeah dude that was so funny it was so funny when chris evans came out and and he thought that it was gonna be captain america, but it was really johnny storm.
• 21:49
Speaker 1: I was like dude, this yeah but, that that was perfect, like it had to be johnny storm.
• 21:52
Speaker 1: I kind of guessed it was.
• 21:52
Speaker 1: It was really johnny storm.
• 21:52
Speaker 1: I was like dude this?
• 21:52
Speaker 2: yeah, that was perfect, like it had to be johnny storm I kind of guessed it was going to be johnny storm when we, we, you know he was like covered in, like that shawl or whatever, and as soon as he started cursing I was just like that's not, captain america yeah deadpool wasn't convinced.
• 22:05
Speaker 2: Yet you know, he's just like oh, he's about to say, he's about to say avengers, and then he goes flame on and I was I love I.
• 22:13
  Speaker 2: I clapped, dude.
• 22:13
Speaker 2: That was a clap worthy moment in the movie theater for me you know, because I, I still, I still love those movies.
• 22:19
Speaker 2: I haven't seen them in probably over a decade but, I.
• 22:22
Speaker 2: I hold them dearly to my heart because I grew up with them.
• 22:25
  Speaker 1: It's been.
• 22:25
  Speaker 1: It's been a while, man.
• 22:27
Speaker 1: Maybe we should have included the the those movies too, should we jump?
• 22:34
Speaker 2: should we jump back in time and watch those now I?
• 22:36
  Speaker 1: wouldn't.
• 22:37
Speaker 1: Over and over now we're going to fantastic four, but oh my gosh, should we do the fantastic four movies next?
• 22:45
  Speaker 2: oh, I haven't.
• 22:46
Speaker 2: I never watched the 2015 fantastic.
• 22:49
Speaker 2: I have no idea I've never yeah, I heard it was terrible and I was just like yeah, it's, it's not good.
• 22:56
Speaker 1: You know who I was surprised was like a.
• 22:59
Speaker 1: He wasn't an overall villain, but he was like there for a lot of the movie was pyro like.
• 23:06
Speaker 1: I was surprised that, like pyro was, he had such a big role they gave him a lot of screen time.
• 23:12
Speaker 2: He was more than just like a, you know, a one-line character, and that was kind of cool because, pyro, while they probably underused him in x-men 2, he was a big character in that movie, or x2, whatever you want to call it.
• 23:26
Speaker 2: So so seeing him return and kind of just have a larger role in this narrative was pretty cool.
• 23:33
Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I agree, I was Toad was there.
• 23:36
Speaker 1: Yeah, toad, but it wasn't the.
• 23:39
Speaker 1: I don't think it was Ripard.
• 23:40
  Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 23:41
Speaker 1: That would have been crazy if it was Like, if he had, like Ripard as that role and, yeah, we had Now.
• 23:47
Speaker 2: I think, and don't hold me to this, but you know, because most of the original cast of the x-men movies well, yeah, besides, besides wolverine, none of the other x-men were there I have a feeling we're gonna see them show up in secret you think so?
• 24:03
Speaker 1: that's, that's my my thought, oh, that that'd be crazy.
• 24:05
Speaker 1: You know, what was really cool is that I mean the cameos were like more than just like characters, but like some of the vehicles, like didn't you see like the fantastic four transport that they were driving yes, that I thought that was like really cool some of the other vehicles that were there did you ever watch moon night?
• 24:24
  Speaker 1: I don't remember.
• 24:24
Speaker 2: I did, if we ever so in moon night I think it was the first or second episode he wakes up driving a cupcake van in another persona.
• 24:36
Speaker 1: The cupcake van was one of those vehicles and I believe I don't even remember that it's been so long since I'd seen Moon Knight, red Skull's automobile was in it, but they had painted over it a couple times with with like other, whatever mad max type yeah, it was really crazy how heavy the mad max vibe was and even like even deadpool made a mention of of mad max yeah, yeah, a couple times like he, he made like a furiosa comments.
• 25:12
Speaker 2: He's like you know, we can't really talk about mad max because that's ip infringement yeah, yeah but then he did it a couple times throughout yeah, that was interesting.
• 25:19
Speaker 1: It was because we had seen the void before we saw it in in loki, but like we didn't see it in this capacity.
• 25:27
Speaker 1: So it was interesting to see that there was like this whole, there was this like whole society in there, you know, and it wasn't just a bunch of like Lokis.
• 25:35
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, we didn't see a single Loki, believe it or not.
• 25:38
  Speaker 1: What.
• 25:38
Speaker 2: I love about what they did with the Void is that they expanded it where it's not just a graveyard like a Mad Max type graveyard, like we saw in Loki, but there are different areas and like realms within the Void, like there's a whole like cornfield area, there's a whole like forest area right, right, there's like different biomes.
• 25:55
Speaker 2: Like it was interesting it was kind of cool and I appreciated that.
• 25:59
Speaker 2: You know, loki had a huge influence on this movie and I think that's because they explored the multiverse so well and the timelines so well that this was kind of just the natural fit.
• 26:10
Speaker 2: We take that formula, inject the movie with a couple tva and void things and, you know, wrap this multiverse story around those rules, basically with a couple new rules and thrown into the mix that you know some people dislike and I don't really have too strong of feelings either way, like they.
• 26:29
Speaker 2: They introduced the concept of anchor beings, which is like a character that is so important to the timeline that when you know they go their timeline starts to slowly crumble, which I kind of like.
• 26:43
Speaker 2: You know it's it's silly and it doesn't really make much sense when you really think about it, but it almost kind of parallels like the MCU in.
• 26:51
Speaker 2: You know, ever since Iron man died it's been a slow downhill.
• 26:55
Speaker 2: You know a slowly decaying, you know, universe.
• 26:58
Speaker 2: So it's almost kind of again metatextual in that respect.
• 27:02
Speaker 2: And they do mention, you know, when he's bringing Wolverine and inviting him to the MCU he's basically like welcome to the MCU.
• 27:09
Speaker 2: You're coming in at a bit of a low point.
• 27:11
  Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, mcu.
• 27:19
Speaker 1: He's basically like welcome to the mcu you're.
• 27:20
Speaker 1: You're coming in at a bit of a low point.
• 27:21
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I did like the mentions of when he gets brought into the tva and they're talking about, like you know, oh, your timeline is is decaying, you know we're bringing you in and just like very subtle, just like you know, is it?
• 27:27
Speaker 1: Oh, is it going to be cinematic, you, is it something to marvel at?
• 27:31
Speaker 1: And then when he's like suck it, fox, I'm going to.
• 27:42
Speaker 1: Disney, it was so funny.
• 27:46
Speaker 2: It wasn't subtle, even when he's fighting Wolverine in that first scene where they're fighting each other, like you see, like the fox logo, like buried in the sand almost like planet of the apes style yeah, it was.
• 27:58
  Speaker 1: It's a lot of fun.
• 27:58
Speaker 1: I think that's what they were going for in that that scene.
• 28:01
Speaker 1: I think it was very like planet of the apes slash mad max yeah, definitely.
• 28:05
Speaker 2: So another thing that I, that I really liked that they brought from loki was alioth.
• 28:10
Speaker 2: You know, the void eating cloud oh, that's right yeah just eats everything that shouldn't be there and it like just sends it into non-existence.
• 28:18
Speaker 2: So I really liked when chris evans mentioned that alioth was going to be there and deadpool goes.
• 28:25
Speaker 2: Alioth from loki season one, episode five yeah, yeah, yeah dude, it was so specific.
• 28:33
Speaker 1: I love stuff like that, it was so funny that so in that moment, when they first meet oh my gosh, what's her name?
• 28:39
Speaker 1: Yeah, cassandra nova when they first meet cassandra nova, they escape and I think that that was iron man's like first prototype of his armor.
• 28:47
  Speaker 2: I couldn't tell.
• 28:48
Speaker 2: Honestly, it almost I wasn't sure if it was like an iron man suit or like some ultron variant or maybe even like the leg of a sentinel.
• 28:58
Speaker 2: I couldn't really tell, but it had propulsion and it was able to get them safely away from aliath and cassandra nova.
• 29:06
Speaker 2: Let's talk about cassandra nova a little bit, because she's crazy.
• 29:08
Speaker 2: Yeah, she is like.
• 29:09
Speaker 2: A lot of people thought that she was a very like basic villain, but yeah, she's.
• 29:13
  Speaker 2: She's just evil.
• 29:14
Speaker 2: She's evil for evil's sake and she's evil because she's crazy.
• 29:17
Speaker 2: She's literally like chaotic evil uh that visualization of her, like literally entering your minds with her, you know like by getting her fingers dirty and like her like, kind of like moving her hands around in your face.
• 29:30
Speaker 2: I think that's the first time we've ever like really visualized anything like that in cgi and it felt like a really new and refreshing use of cgi in a movie, you know, like it was just such a new looking and it looks okay, it looked painful, dude oh, it looked so uncomfortable and it makes your skin crawl.
• 29:49
Speaker 2: You, there's no way you can watch that and not be like uncomfortable, which is exactly what they're going for yeah, yeah, definitely yeah, she was interesting because she's the sister of charles xavier yes, they were twins in the womb and for whatever reason at birth or in the womb, I'm not really sure the tva.
• 30:10
Speaker 2: It has to be at birth, I guess.
• 30:11
Speaker 2: Yeah, like they, yeah, it has to be a birth.
• 30:13
Speaker 2: The tva sent her into the void.
• 30:15
Speaker 2: They pruned her out of existence, so charles xavier never knew that she existed and I like that moment where they get the opportunity to kill cassandra nova and she's currently bleeding out right and they have.
• 30:26
Speaker 2: They have juggernaut's helmet on her, so that's like blocking her power right, and then pyro comes and shoots her a few times so she's bleeding out and wolverine, basically you know, comes to his senses at that moment and realizes, like charles would never let me do this, charles would never want me to do this even though, like I would, I want to do this.
• 30:46
Speaker 2: This is not what charles would have wanted.
• 30:47
Speaker 2: And he kind of tells her that, like you know, if charles knew that you existed, he would have wanted.
• 30:52
Speaker 2: And he kind of tells her that, like you know, if Charles knew, that you existed, he would have ripped through the fabric of time to save you.
• 30:56
Speaker 1: Yeah, this hell, you know, yeah, which is like true, like Charles would have done everything he could have to find her because he would have been like I have, you know, a sibling.
• 31:03
Speaker 1: I've, you know he does that I didn't even know existed, that was taken from me, that you know, like I need to go find her, I need to go save her.
• 31:15
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 31:15
Speaker 1: He definitely would have.
• 31:16
Speaker 1: Yeah, I liked that moment too because, there was definitely some like just like the moment had so much weight to it.
• 31:25
Speaker 2: It's interesting that she mentions that she's received, like several Charles Xavier's that have popped up on the timeline, like in the void, and she's like dispatched with them as she normally does.
• 31:36
Speaker 2: So, yeah, she's evil, but like none of those individuals were necessarily, as far as we know, looking for her to save her from that reality.
• 31:44
Speaker 2: So yeah, I think that's pretty neat.
• 31:46
Speaker 2: Let's talk a little bit about some of the other characters that you know.
• 31:50
Speaker 2: Some people are calling them cameos.
• 31:52
Speaker 2: I almost little bit about some of the other characters that you know.
• 31:53
Speaker 2: Some people are calling them cameos.
• 31:54
Speaker 2: I almost feel like they're not cameos because they have an extended use within the film, like they have like an actual purpose, right right to extend the plot.
• 32:00
Speaker 1: So I guess like in a way, like you know, an extended cameo, because they're not like a main point of the film and they're not really most of the film and they're they're meant to be nods to the audience mostly yeah, yeah, it was fan service yeah, it was fan service.
• 32:16
  Speaker 2: Let's let's talk about them.
• 32:17
Speaker 1: We have electra played by jennifer right, and so we knew that she was going to be in there, or some people I it was.
• 32:24
Speaker 1: It was kind of like semi-leaked but like it was never confirmed that she was going to be in it I think like right before, I think it was kind of announced, because I remember seeing that she was going to be in it.
• 32:35
Speaker 2: It was definitely like you know, a lot of people believed that she was going to be in it but like she kept denying it and stuff.
• 32:40
Speaker 2: It was kind of like andrew garfield leading up to no way home.
• 32:43
Speaker 2: It's crazy that, like just you know, side tangent, it's crazy that no way home made as much money as it did.
• 32:47
Speaker 2: You know, even though they didn't use or like highlight toby or andrew in their advertisement for that movie at all until after that movie like I think it was like a month after that movie came out.
• 32:57
Speaker 1: That's when they started, you know, including the spider people in the other spider people into the marketing I think it made that much money because of all the hearsay and like people were expecting them to be in there.
• 33:09
Speaker 2: So like they're like oh yeah, I'm definitely gonna go imagine all that hearsay and then that didn't happen, you know.
• 33:14
  Speaker 2: Imagine it.
• 33:15
Speaker 2: It was just a toke or it was just a tom holland movie like that would have been the letdown of the century and it would have been like hey it would have been like hey, look, you guys came up with this.
• 33:24
Speaker 1: Yeah, for real but yeah, so we had electra.
• 33:28
Speaker 2: We knew that laura x23 was going to be there, they did, they did, yeah, they actually released a trailer with her in it, so a couple days before the right which was kind of weird, you know, like why did you?
• 33:40
Speaker 1: wait until that, like last minute, but it doesn't surprise me that she was in it, like if she wasn't in it, it would have been like as a narrative anchor to the events of logan and to the character of wolverine.
• 33:51
Speaker 2: Her appearance in that was kind of necessary, just to like get him right back on track right, just like she got him on track in logan so I really loved that cameo it's it's.
• 34:01
Speaker 2: It's fun seeing daphne keen so much recently like I know right yeah it's nice that she has a little bit of a resurgence in acting.
• 34:09
Speaker 2: I don't know if she quit acting for a bit, you know, know, just like grow up.
• 34:12
Speaker 2: I know a lot of child actors do that and then they go back into acting afterwards.
• 34:16
Speaker 2: But I haven't seen her in a bit.
• 34:19
Speaker 1: She did really well as X-23 when she was 12.
• 34:22
Speaker 1: And I felt like she still had that.
• 34:25
Speaker 1: She definitely has grown up and she has more of a grateful heart for what Logan did for her, and so you can tell that she doesn't have that anger like she did before, but she still has that fire in her, you know yes, we, we have.
• 34:45
Speaker 2: Probably my favorite in this movie was the mix of the musical cue like dropping as wesley snipes yeah, walks into the room and it's just for lack of a better term like the most badass mic drop in the entire mcu.
• 35:00
Speaker 2: Nobody expected it like these.
• 35:02
Speaker 2: So Snipes is, you know, rumored to heavily dislike Ryan Reynolds.
• 35:07
Speaker 1: So they did have some beef on.
• 35:10
Speaker 1: I looked into it.
• 35:11
Speaker 1: They had some issues on the set of the Blade movie.
• 35:15
Speaker 1: That Was it, trinity.
• 35:17
Speaker 2: I think it was Trinity, yeah.
• 35:18
Speaker 1: So yeah, ryan Reynolds was in one of those Blade movies and yeah, they had some issues.
• 35:23
Speaker 1: Well, it looks like since then that beef has been squashed.
• 35:27
Speaker 1: They kind of make fun of it a little bit too they do.
• 35:29
Speaker 2: They mention it briefly, but yeah, dude, wesley snipes is such a perfect cast for blade.
• 35:35
Speaker 1: Dude, he's just too good man like he just too good.
• 35:40
Speaker 1: When was the last time we saw this man as blade?
• 35:42
Speaker 1: And he, just like he's slotted to that role, like as if he's been playing blade for the past 20 years.
• 35:48
Speaker 1: Dude, we haven't seen him for a while, I think it's been 20 years, dude, hold on.
• 35:52
Speaker 2: I just I just downloaded this movie.
• 35:54
Speaker 1: Blade trinity was 2004, so it's been 20 years this character's been on screen, nuts, so it's cool that they like I guess you know down the line I'm pretty sure it's been a while that they kind of squashed that beef, but it was cool to see that he was in it and they kind of like made fun of that a little bit.
• 36:14
Speaker 1: But dude, when I saw blade in there I was like what, dude?
• 36:17
Speaker 1: Like that was the most exciting cameo or like appearance that was in that movie yeah, I was not expecting it at all at all dude like dude of all people blade.
• 36:26
Speaker 1: And then we got your boy channing tatum as gambit and you you know.
• 36:30
Speaker 1: So that's like a bit of a nod to that gambit film that was supposed to be done, right.
• 36:35
Speaker 2: So it's it's not a little nod, it's a huge nod, you know, to the fact that you know for for the longest time.
• 36:40
Speaker 2: You know, there there are always like these actors that have these passion projects that just never come to fruition.
• 36:46
Speaker 2: And you know you can.
• 36:48
Speaker 2: There's a couple of them, like Dwayne Johnson or the Rock.
• 36:51
Speaker 2: He wanted to play Black Adam since, like the inception of the DCEU, and only recently was able to make that come to fruition, so that that took almost a decade.
• 37:02
Speaker 2: Gambit is one of those characters.
• 37:02
Speaker 2: Like Channing Tatum was able to make that come to fruition, so that took almost a decade.
• 37:03
Speaker 2: Gambit is one of those characters.
• 37:04
Speaker 2: Like Channing Tatum was trying to get Gambit off the ground for a while.
• 37:08
Speaker 2: He was really into this character and it never came into fruition.
• 37:12
Speaker 2: And they make a jab at that in this movie where they're each talking about when they were brought into the void and he goes.
• 37:21
Speaker 2: I think I was just born here.
• 37:23
  Speaker 2: I don't remember anything else.
• 37:26
Speaker 1: Dude, dude, dude, dude.
• 37:27
Speaker 1: That was hilarious, that was hilarious.
• 37:35
Speaker 1: Yeah, that was yeah.
• 37:37
Speaker 1: Yeah, that was so good.
• 37:39
Speaker 2: And his dude, his accent, was hilarious man, hilarious man it was so bad but, like purposefully bad, I loved it.
• 37:46
Speaker 1: I really, really loved that and I love, I love how deadpool made a comment on that too, like he's like who's your dialect?
• 37:53
Speaker 2: several yeah, several like, and throughout the movie he's like trying to understand what gambit's saying.
• 37:58
Speaker 2: Like there's the scene where they're in the car and gambit's talking about like how they're gonna get into this place, into cassandra nova's, you know fortress that happens to be the dead body of paul run and he says something and it's really incoherent and devil's like.
• 38:11
Speaker 2: What I think he's trying to say is we're gonna have to blow our way in there.
• 38:15
Speaker 2: And that's also probably the scene where I like one of my favorite lines in the entire movie is where they talk about like oh yeah, there's been a bunch of ghost writers that have popped up and a bunch of like punishers or I don't think they mentioned ghost writer, they mentioned a bunch like five punishers.
• 38:29
Speaker 2: And then wesley snipe goes there's only ever been one blade, there's only ever going to be one yeah, which is such a jab dude like, because marvel's been trying to get their new Blade movie off the ground, for they announced it, I think, pre-covid at this point and it's just in production.
• 38:47
Speaker 2: Hell, they haven't started filming.
• 38:49
Speaker 2: They have the actor.
• 38:50
Speaker 2: They've had Mahershala Ali attached to that role for a while now and all he's done is he had that one line at the end of.
• 38:57
Speaker 1: Eternals briefly, and the second one has been axed.
• 39:04
Speaker 2: Yeah, so he's not going to be in eternals?
• 39:05
Speaker 1: oh, I don't think he was ever going to be in eternals too.
• 39:06
Speaker 1: But but like, what we got at the end of eternals, we'll never see.
• 39:09
Speaker 2: Probably, or maybe in some other projects yeah, maybe like a black knight mixed with blade type movie.
• 39:15
  Speaker 2: I don't know.
• 39:16
Speaker 2: I would love to see another blade with mahershala ali.
• 39:19
Speaker 2: I think he's a fantastic actor, but I thought that that line that Wesley Snipes said was almost like personal you know like how dare you try to like?
• 39:28
  Speaker 1: right, right yeah.
• 39:30
  Speaker 2: I'm still, I'm still here.
• 39:31
Speaker 1: Why are you trying to take this role?
• 39:32
Speaker 1: It's, I'm gonna be honest with you, it's gonna be tough, man, it's gonna be tough.
• 39:36
Speaker 1: And do you think?
• 39:38
Speaker 1: Because we got one cameo that we didn't?
• 39:40
Speaker 1: This is definitely a cameo, but one cameo we didn't talk about and this is a Wolverine cameo is Henry Cavill as Wolverine and he called the Cavalry.
• 39:50
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 39:51
  Speaker 1: The Cavalry.
• 39:52
Speaker 1: He's like, he's like, he's like there are rumors Dude, Dude, hey, hey look, I'm gonna be honest with you.
• 40:04
Speaker 1: I was kind of sold you know that.
• 40:06
Speaker 2: Remember I think it was a mission impossible movie where henry cavill, like you know, he's fighting tom cruise and he like cocks his arms and like you know it's like to like cock his, like cufflinks or whatever right before he like punches him, like he kind of does that movement to like take his claws out.
• 40:21
Speaker 2: You know he kind of copies that you know, I didn't even notice that yeah, yeah, I thought that was great also, like they.
• 40:27
Speaker 1: They mentioned like we're gonna treat you way better than those guys across the street did and then we we got a lot of like, different nods to like when he was going through, because deadpool goes through like these different universes to, to you know, find it universes to find a functional Right right To become the new anchor being for his universe.
• 40:48
Speaker 1: And we get all these different ones.
• 40:50
Speaker 1: We get the Wolverine in that brown and kind of orangish suit yes.
• 40:56
Speaker 1: Where it's the Wolverine versus Hulk one.
• 40:59
Speaker 2: Yeah, the original Wolverine outfit Right right which.
• 41:02
Speaker 2: And then and then the hulk actually shows up briefly like, and you see him reflected in the claws, which was so cool.
• 41:10
Speaker 1: So I would love a wolverine versus hulk movie that, yeah, that that was really cool and even if it's like animated, I feel like that would be so the one where he's kind of like a spy or something like that, the one he's like in a suit with a dye patch.
• 41:23
Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he calls him Patch yeah.
• 41:25
Speaker 1: I know we've all seen that cover, the one where he's like nailed up on the X.
• 41:29
Speaker 2: Yes, in a sea of skulls Like how do you even get into that position, right?
• 41:35
Speaker 1: You know, you know, whenever, when I.
• 41:38
Speaker 1: When I saw that scene in the movie, it reminded me of that one scene in smallville with lex luther where he's surrounded by, like the skulls of millions yeah and like blood is raining down yeah
• 41:53
Speaker 1: oh, dude, smallville's so good dude that has changed it over to smallville, but it was interesting to see like those different ones.
• 42:00
Speaker 1: I like the short wolverine, the short king.
• 42:03
Speaker 1: Yeah, he's like did you stick the landing when he jumped off the seat?
• 42:08
Speaker 1: Dude, brian riddles was just, he was so unhinged in this film but it was so funny but it was interesting.
• 42:20
Speaker 1: There was a lot of deadpool.
• 42:21
Speaker 1: Wolverine bumped heads a lot and like that made sense to me, like I was not expecting them to be on board like right away, because you know, wolverine's like he's not about games, like he's just like it's about business.
• 42:33
Speaker 1: Right, deadpool is about business and games.
• 42:35
Speaker 1: He likes to play games while he's doing business.
• 42:38
Speaker 1: You know, yeah, and so yeah, that's not gonna mesh well with wolverine.
• 42:42
Speaker 1: So there's a lot of fighting.
• 42:44
Speaker 1: That fight in the van was hilarious yes, and I love that.
• 42:47
Speaker 1: That's how they were discovered by the the others oh yeah kind of taken into the dude, deadpool was wrapped up in in some seat belts.
• 42:56
Speaker 1: He's like mummified in seat belts.
• 43:00
Speaker 2: Dude, that was so funny one thing that I don't like about the movie.
• 43:03
Speaker 2: You know we've been gushing about it for almost an hour.
• 43:05
Speaker 2: At this point I I asked you at the front of the, the podcast, what your thoughts are on like the connective tissue between dead pools one, two and three, and I'm specifically kind of talking about his relationship with vanessa, and basically they kind of imply that his inability to start after rejection or get back on his feet after being rejected as an avenger is what led to her vanessa that is and I don't really I don't see vanessa doing that the character of vanessa from the first two movies I feel like that was kind of a weird choice right.
• 43:43
Speaker 1: Right, I mean like because you know she took him back after being gone for like two years.
• 43:48
Speaker 1: Dude, in the first one he had disappeared for like two years yes and she took him back.
• 43:52
Speaker 1: You know, looking like a overripe avocado, you know yeah, and mashed onto a topographical map of utah but you know, no, I I would agree with you on that.
• 44:02
  Speaker 1: That.
• 44:03
  Speaker 1: I definitely I don't.
• 44:04
Speaker 1: It was a weird character choice, it was.
• 44:06
Speaker 2: I don't I feel like it was just a way to like move the plot you know, and give him some motivation to continue and like grow I love peter's.
• 44:14
Speaker 2: I thought it was weird in this movie yeah, he's so much more self-confident in this one uh dude I love that yeah, yeah, we've talked about this movie so much, you know.
• 44:24
Speaker 1: We've talked about cassandra nova.
• 44:25
Speaker 1: We didn't really talk about her motives, but we didn't talk about paradox oh, that's an interesting one.
• 44:30
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, we didn't touch upon paradox, we didn't touch upon being the one that deadpool core right, right, oh yeah, that's true, paradox being the one that brings deadpool into the tva, and yeah, so paradox kind of wants to be the guy that makes the decisions on whether a timeline lasts or it's over with.
• 44:49
Speaker 1: So he commissions this thing called a Time Ripper to be built and brought into Deadpool's world.
• 44:56
Speaker 1: And so you know Deadpool, the whole reason why he's going to these different worlds to find a Wolverine, an anchor Wolverine, is because he wants to replace the old Wolverine so that his world, his universe, doesn't get destroyed.
• 45:12
Speaker 1: And so that doesn't pan out well for him.
• 45:14
Speaker 1: Because then you got Cassandra, which you know we talked about her being evil.
• 45:19
Speaker 1: She pretty much gets wind of that, and it doesn't help.
• 45:23
Speaker 1: That paradox commissioned pyro to kill her, you know.
• 45:27
Speaker 1: So now he's made an enemy of her by doing that.
• 45:31
Speaker 1: And then she's like oh, there's a time ripper here.
• 45:33
Speaker 1: She didn't want to just destroy that world, she wanted to destroy all the timelines, she just wanted the void to exist and that's it yeah, she wanted to rule supreme over basically everything that was pruned Pretty much.
• 45:45
Speaker 1: And that would have been like everything.
• 45:48
Speaker 2: Yeah, like all universes.
• 45:49
Speaker 2: So that would have been crazy and hectic, but thankfully, with the power of two and the power of friendship, you know, and the power of Madonna, they were able to save the timeline.
• 45:59
Speaker 2: Stop the time ripper, destroy Cassandra To save the timeline.
• 46:06
Speaker 2: Stop the Time Ripper, destroy Cassandra and simultaneously fix the timeline, because this Wolverine believed in himself so heavily that it basically reset and rejuvenated the branches of this timeline.
• 46:14
Speaker 2: So, I thought that was pretty fun.
• 46:16
Speaker 1: And he does a lot of this stuff because Wade pretty much says that the TVA can help fix his timeline, but he makes an educated wish.
• 46:31
Speaker 1: Yes, did you just say you made an educated wish?
• 46:34
Speaker 1: Like, I want to like watch it again, like after talking about it there's so many great moments there was so many great moments.
• 46:46
Speaker 1: But yeah, you know.
• 46:47
Speaker 1: So, yeah, there's the deadpool core that comes through and, yeah, the only good deadpool is nice pool.
• 46:53
Speaker 1: And you know, the little dog, dog pool, dog pool was so cute dude like the ugliest possible dog right, just adorable hanging tongue and everything.
• 47:02
Speaker 1: But yeah, there's a lot of cameos in the deadpool core, letty deadpool, the one that a lot of people kind of figured was going to be, the lady deadpool is ryan reynolds wife and that's who it was, blake, lively, and actually their kids are in it too, like kid pool, baby pool, like oh yeah, I heard yeah he made it.
• 47:23
Speaker 1: It was like a family affair for him.
• 47:24
Speaker 1: We had matthew mcconaughey that was like cowboy pool and there's a several others that were the different deadpools.
• 47:32
Speaker 1: But yeah, man, there's a lot of.
• 47:34
Speaker 1: They kind of like hid, like a lot of these actors kind of like what they did with the sequel trilogy of star wars, like remember it was a daniel craig was like one of the oh yeah, he was a stormtrooper right.
• 47:46
Speaker 1: So like they and they did that a lot in this movie, especially with the deadpool core I loved when peter showed up and like everybody was like, oh my gosh, that's peter.
• 47:54
Speaker 1: Like every every deadpool has a peter I loved it and they all loved it, like they, like they all loved him.
• 48:02
Speaker 1: It was so funny.
• 48:03
  Speaker 2: Yeah and yeah.
• 48:04
Speaker 2: I love that he ends it with like they're walking away.
• 48:07
Speaker 2: He's just like enjoy my Peter.
• 48:08
  Speaker 2: Yes, yes.
• 48:16
Speaker 1: I like at the end, when both Deadpool and Wolverine, you know they save everything, they destroy.
• 48:18
Speaker 1: This time, ripper, by you know, connecting this conduit or these circuits.
• 48:23
Speaker 2: That include antimatter and matter, right, right.
• 48:24
Speaker 1: And so when paradox gets, because you know cassandra, she gets killed through that whole process, but paradox, he gets arrested.
• 48:33
Speaker 1: And that moment between peter and what's her name from, and I remember her from loki yeah, I think it's hunter b15, right, right but then, like she kind of moved up in ranks this time around, you know yes, hunter b15 okay and that moment between her and peter was so funny, like paradox, like what is going on.
• 48:56
Speaker 2: I like that one guy who kept giving like wolverine, just like the most adoring, like like eyes, like he was like in love with wolverine dude so funny oh gosh, yeah.
• 49:08
Speaker 2: So final thoughts on deadpool and wolverine it was a fun movie.
• 49:12
Speaker 1: Even if there were bits and pieces of it that that were a mess, I enjoyed it.
• 49:17
Speaker 1: I wasn't going into this movie expecting to see the best cinematic thing ever, but I knew that it dude.
• 49:22
Speaker 1: It was a deadpool movie, it was gonna be fun and I loved the little touch that they did at the during the credits oh yeah, yeah, I think that that's an important you know thing, right, right that they showed all these bits and pieces from behind the scenes of the fox movies and it was really cool.
• 49:39
Speaker 1: I really, really it was like showing respect for like what came out of fox.
• 49:45
Speaker 1: You know that not everything was amazing, but like they really led, honestly, like fox walked so that the mcu could run, you know totally yeah, 100 and I it was.
• 49:55
Speaker 2: It was nice and just heartwarming to see these actors just having fun like getting to know their characters, dude, and it was so awesome seeing like some of them again.
• 50:04
Speaker 1: Like you know, james marsden, hallie berry, even, like you know, chris evans, like back in his yeah even the I wish they showed deadpool stuff I mean not deadpool, I wish they showed blade stuff is blade?
• 50:18
  Speaker 2: I don't think blade is I.
• 50:19
Speaker 1: I think Blade is New Line or something like that.
• 50:21
Speaker 2: I think they showed every.
• 50:23
Speaker 2: Fox movie, except for New Mutants.
• 50:27
Speaker 1: I was looking for.
• 50:28
  Speaker 2: New Mutants?
• 50:28
  Speaker 2: I didn't see it.
• 50:29
Speaker 1: I did not see New Mutants.
• 50:30
  Speaker 1: I don't know if I just forgot.
• 50:31
Speaker 1: New Mutants was almost like its own thing, but yeah, you saw the new.
• 50:35
Speaker 2: X-Men yeah, we saw New X-Men, we saw the 2015 Fantastic Four cast.
• 50:43
Speaker 2: Yeah, so it was weird, but I I did really appreciate that touch and the first time I saw it I was, I was like legit tearing up, like it was just like it's like we've come this far you forget how much you're gonna miss these stories and these characters.
• 50:53
Speaker 2: And he said this iteration of the universes that have come before yeah but yeah, no, it was, it was a.
• 50:58
Speaker 2: It was a really fun movie and you parroting what you say, I wasn't expecting anything crazy, but you know, I got my money's worth.
• 51:05
  Speaker 1: Oh yeah, dude.
• 51:06
Speaker 2: It was such a fun ride and I would gladly pay to see it again, you know, a third time.
• 51:11
Speaker 1: Like it's not every movie that I go to see.
• 51:14
Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, I need to go see it at IMAX, and this was like one of those.
• 51:22
Speaker 2: Yes, like one of those.
• 51:23
Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, yeah, I, I totally agree, guys.
• 51:24
Speaker 2: Thank you so much for listening to us here for our 93rd podcast.
• 51:25
Speaker 2: This was a lot of fun as, as we said at the start of this episode, this has been a 14 part x-men almost kind of like a rerun saga for us.
• 51:35
Speaker 2: You know a mutant saga going into this film.
• 51:37
Speaker 2: So we recovered all of the x-men movies, from the first X-Men through New Mutants and then with Deadpool and Wolverine topping it off, and we had a great time.
• 51:47
Speaker 2: So if you are just catching us now, please be sure to check out some of our other coverage of the series, because a lot of it was really fun being able to go back and check out some of those movies again.
• 51:58
Speaker 2: For me, some were for the first time.
• 52:00
Speaker 2: It was a lot of fun.
• 52:02
  Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree.
• 52:02
Speaker 1: Agree, it was cool going back and watching all of these.
• 52:06
Speaker 1: Whether or not like they were amazing, it was still fun to go back and watch them do we have something planned for next week?
• 52:14
Speaker 2: I take it all back.
• 52:15
Speaker 2: Anthony and I just had an off screen discussion.
• 52:18
Speaker 2: We're not ending our our x-men discussion here.
• 52:23
Speaker 2: We're jumping right into the x, into the mcu's coverage of the x-men with their debut series, x-men 97, which aired a couple months back.
• 52:32
  Speaker 2: I loved it.
• 52:32
Speaker 2: Anthony hasn't finished watching it, so we are going to do that.
• 52:37
Speaker 2: Next week we're going to cover the 10 episode series, x-men 97, which follows up on the first.
• 52:42
Speaker 2: You know what is it?
• 52:43
Speaker 2: Four or five seasons of the animated series from the 90s.
• 52:45
Speaker 2: You do not have to watch the 90s show to fall into step with x-men 97 and most likely, if you watch x-men 97 you're going to want to go back and watch those 90s cartoons.
• 52:57
Speaker 2: So definitely catch at least those 10 episodes, just to you know, listen in and have fun and not be spoiled, because it's a really fun ride.
• 53:05
  Speaker 2: Can't wait.
• 53:05
Speaker 2: This is basically our post-credit scene for our x-men saga.
