- 0:02Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to Made the Review. Be with you
- 0:05Speaker 1: with Nick and Joe. I'm Joe and Nick.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Hey.
- 0:08Speaker 1: We were playing another game of add it to your List.
- 0:11Speaker 3: It's a game in which Nick and I take turns
- 0:13Speaker 3: try to convince the other to watch a movie or
- 0:16Speaker 3: a show and put it on our list.
- 0:19Speaker 1: You know that thing that everybody does when you're at
- 0:21Speaker 1: the bar and you're making that awkward.
- 0:22Speaker 3: Conversation and someone says insists actually that you have to
- 0:26Speaker 3: watch this thing, and you just politely nod and you're like, yeah,
- 0:29Speaker 3: I'm gonna do that. Well, Nick and I are going
- 0:31Speaker 3: to actually try to get it on each other's list today.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 0:37Speaker 3: I think we've had oh next to no success in
- 0:40Speaker 3: the past. We're actually doing this like we're polite and
- 0:43Speaker 3: we actually do the nodding.
- 0:44Speaker 2: We're like, yeah, sure, and we don't watch it.
- 0:48Speaker 3: With the exception of one one movie that I actually
- 0:51Speaker 3: did watch and it was like the one thing I
- 0:53Speaker 3: shouldn't have added to my list, and Nick even admitted this,
- 0:56Speaker 3: and I watched it and I hated it so much.
- 1:02Speaker 4: The Union such a riveting riveting films, that's one.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Word for it.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Moving on, but today we have two new things to
- 1:13Speaker 3: talk about. I am going to be presenting Nick The Fall,
- 1:18Speaker 3: which is the movie that came out or I think
- 1:20Speaker 3: it's just called Fall, actually Fall, which came out in
- 1:22Speaker 3: twenty twenty two. And excuse me, Nick, what do you
- 1:30Speaker 3: what are you pitching us today?
- 1:31Speaker 4: I am pitching a twenty twenty Netflix film called The
- 1:34Speaker 4: Old Guard, based on the comic books comic book by
- 1:39Speaker 4: Greg Ruca.
- 1:41Speaker 1: I don't know anything about it.
- 1:42Speaker 2: I'm I'm quite intrigued, all right.
- 1:45Speaker 3: So usually we kind of ease into these things we
- 1:48Speaker 3: talk about, you know, kind of movie and show news.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Of what's going on.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Not today today, we're just getting right into it.
- 1:54Speaker 1: We don't got time for that today.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Oh yeah, Nick, I think I went first last time,
- 1:59Speaker 3: so I'm going to actually politely.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Go first again. So absolutely dog.
- 2:07Speaker 2: So Nick, let me ask you.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Let me ask you.
- 2:11Speaker 2: How how do you feel about heights?
- 2:13Speaker 4: Heights?
- 2:14Speaker 1: Heights? Yeah, hate them?
- 2:17Speaker 4: Not okay with it?
- 2:19Speaker 2: Not okay with I Already I have lost for you.
- 2:21Speaker 1: You lost me at Heights. Do I have the horror
- 2:24Speaker 1: movie for you? A horror movie? You're pitching me a
- 2:27Speaker 1: horror movie? So it's not it's not a horror movie.
- 2:30Speaker 3: This is there are some weird sequences, like in the
- 2:33Speaker 3: beginning where like, all right, let me just get into this,
- 2:36Speaker 3: all right. So Fall is a movie about two characters
- 2:40Speaker 3: who decide that they're going to climb one of the
- 2:44Speaker 3: tallest structures in America, and it's this radio tower out
- 2:47Speaker 3: in the middle of the desert. They're gonna go climb this,
- 2:50Speaker 3: and they're they're gonna they're doing this for some personal
- 2:53Speaker 3: reasons that aren't too important for this pitch, but they're
- 2:56Speaker 3: doing it for personal reasons. And as they make the
- 3:00Speaker 3: the treacherous climb, it's like fifteen hundred feet in the air.
- 3:03Speaker 3: It's something insane, it's crazy high.
- 3:07Speaker 1: They get to the.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Top, and unfortunately, once they're up there and they get
- 3:10Speaker 3: ready to go down, something happens and the ladder that
- 3:14Speaker 3: helped get them up there crumbles and breaks, and now
- 3:17Speaker 3: that they are stuck at the top of this radio
- 3:20Speaker 3: tower in the middle of the desert, no one seemingly
- 3:24Speaker 3: knowing that they are there. And it is a movie
- 3:26Speaker 3: about survival and about what they do next. That is
- 3:31Speaker 3: the whole movie. That's it, and it's about ninety minutes long.
- 3:34Speaker 3: It's pretty short, honestly. Once they actually start climbing the tower.
- 3:40Speaker 3: This thing is riveting and I could not stop watching it.
- 3:45Speaker 3: So at this point, this is the part of the
- 3:48Speaker 3: game where Nick is allowed to ask me three questions
- 3:51Speaker 3: to be played and make it sound like he's engaging
- 3:54Speaker 3: me at the bar, Nick.
- 3:58Speaker 1: What are your questions?
- 4:04Speaker 4: It sounds like the primary portion of this movie just
- 4:06Speaker 4: takes place on top of a radio tower with two characters.
- 4:09Speaker 4: That's correct, acting wise, give me like a one to ten,
- 4:17Speaker 4: ten being like, really solid job. What can I expect?
- 4:23Speaker 4: Are there any like do they sell it? This is like,
- 4:28Speaker 4: this is tough because it's just two characters for like
- 4:30Speaker 4: an hour basically in distress.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Yes, that's correct.
- 4:35Speaker 3: So that's kind of where I think the beauty of
- 4:38Speaker 3: this movie kind of comes in. So I think I've
- 4:41Speaker 3: talked about it before on the show that I'm a
- 4:43Speaker 3: sucker for bottle episodes where you have two characters just
- 4:46Speaker 3: stuck in one location and they're just allowed to be characters. Right,
- 4:52Speaker 3: That very much is the case, right, And you know
- 4:55Speaker 3: it's these one character who was already at an emotional
- 4:59Speaker 3: low now that they're on top of the world as
- 5:02Speaker 3: high as they could possibly be, She's even at her
- 5:04Speaker 3: lowest and the other character who is just this very
- 5:08Speaker 3: big source of strength trying to like, you know, keep
- 5:11Speaker 3: her confidence, get her through this. I would say the
- 5:13Speaker 3: performances are really are really good. That being said, I
- 5:17Speaker 3: will I will grant you this warning. I check this
- 5:19Speaker 3: movie out because I saw the trailer and it was like,
- 5:22Speaker 3: that's interesting.
- 5:22Speaker 1: How do you make a whole movie about that.
- 5:25Speaker 3: I had heard from someone else that they really enjoyed it,
- 5:27Speaker 3: so it was like, Okay, I'll give this a chance.
- 5:30Speaker 3: First fifteen minutes before we're actually at the tower, I
- 5:32Speaker 3: was greatly annoyed at this movie.
- 5:36Speaker 1: I was greatly annoyed at it.
- 5:37Speaker 3: And it's nothing to do with the characters, or it's
- 5:40Speaker 3: nothing to do with the acting. It has everything to
- 5:43Speaker 3: do with the characters and how they're being presented in
- 5:45Speaker 3: the first fifteen minutes. But after that, when when we
- 5:50Speaker 3: are actually starting the movie and going up the tower,
- 5:54Speaker 3: picks up a lot and the characters are actually pretty
- 5:56Speaker 3: interesting from that point on.
- 5:58Speaker 4: Okay, does this movie have a happy ending?
- 6:05Speaker 1: Yes? Yes, I would say it's a happy ending.
- 6:07Speaker 4: Okay, more intriguing any any special any actors or directors
- 6:18Speaker 4: or soundtrack from people that we know or that have
- 6:21Speaker 4: done something else that.
- 6:24Speaker 3: The only familiar face I've seen, at least as far
- 6:29Speaker 3: as stuff that you know you and I like talk
- 6:30Speaker 3: about is one of the actors. There is one other actor.
- 6:35Speaker 3: This actually might be a point against the movie. Uh,
- 6:38Speaker 3: Jeffrey Dean Morgan is in this movie, and he's the man.
- 6:42Speaker 1: I love him.
- 6:43Speaker 3: If you've seen Walking Dead, if you've seen uh that
- 6:48Speaker 3: one scene in Batman vs. Superman that where he's where
- 6:51Speaker 3: he's Bruis's father for some weird reason, great actor, criminally
- 6:57Speaker 3: underused in this movie. He's actually insane that they got
- 7:01Speaker 3: Jeffer Dein Morgan to be the dad and he doesn't
- 7:03Speaker 3: have more to do. That's a point against the movie. Honestly,
- 7:06Speaker 3: I would say that's the biggest familiarity. I will say
- 7:10Speaker 3: just one more thing.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Nick, Huh.
- 7:14Speaker 3: What really like sells this movie is the believability of
- 7:19Speaker 3: the fact where how high they are and like where
- 7:23Speaker 3: they are.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Like that doesn't it never feels like they're on a set.
- 7:26Speaker 3: It always feels like they are on this tiny platform
- 7:29Speaker 3: way high up. And that has everything to do with
- 7:32Speaker 3: the direction and the cinematography.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Nice it is. It is next level.
- 7:38Speaker 3: I was That's why I was riveted I was riveted
- 7:40Speaker 3: with the cinematography of this movie.
- 7:42Speaker 2: It was really really impressive.
- 7:46Speaker 4: All right, all right, that's it. I don't have any
- 7:50Speaker 4: other questions. Do I have to make a choice now
- 7:53Speaker 4: or do we do it at the end.
- 7:54Speaker 2: We can do it at the end, you know what,
- 7:55Speaker 2: Let's shake it up a bit. Let's let's shake it up. Nika,
- 7:59Speaker 2: pitch me your bad.
- 8:00Speaker 4: Oh no, this is actually a fantastic movie. It's so
- 8:04Speaker 4: good that they have been working on a second one
- 8:07Speaker 4: for four years and it finally has a release date
- 8:10Speaker 4: July of twenty twenty five for the second.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Movie for the sequel, but coming up.
- 8:14Speaker 4: The original, titled The Old Guard twenty twenty, came out
- 8:19Speaker 4: in twenty twenty on Netflix, starring Charlie's Thereon It's the
- 8:23Speaker 4: main character, and a handful of other actors and actresses
- 8:27Speaker 4: as well, who are really fantastic. I don't know them
- 8:29Speaker 4: by name, because she's the she's the you know the
- 8:33Speaker 4: title card if you will. This movie is about a
- 8:38Speaker 4: millennial old millennia old warriors with unexplained regenitive healing abilities
- 8:45Speaker 4: who use their vast experience to work as mercenaries essentially. Okay,
- 8:50Speaker 4: so we're talking about like centuries old warriors who can
- 8:56Speaker 4: heal and essentially take on jobs to help people. And
- 9:03Speaker 4: this the particular like plot of this movie is, you know,
- 9:06Speaker 4: they have a rule where they don't ever work for
- 9:07Speaker 4: the same person twice, and they break their rule for
- 9:13Speaker 4: to help like kidnap children, and by breaking their rule
- 9:19Speaker 4: working for the CIA for a second time, it's essentially
- 9:23Speaker 4: a setup so that the CIA can film film them
- 9:27Speaker 4: like regenerating and then essentially like share this secret with
- 9:31Speaker 4: a scientist who's going to try to of course like
- 9:35Speaker 4: kidnap them and test them and figure out how to
- 9:38Speaker 4: like use this thing. The movie is so cool though
- 9:43Speaker 4: the actings, the the fight sequences are like totally insane,
- 9:48Speaker 4: like acting sequences are off the charts, and really just
- 9:52Speaker 4: the storyline in general, like it's a perfect blend to
- 9:56Speaker 4: me of fight scenes, drama, and even and it even
- 10:01Speaker 4: introduces like a new immortal while also like delving into
- 10:05Speaker 4: the past of like the current ones, the ones that
- 10:07Speaker 4: have been immortal for centuries, so you get to see
- 10:10Speaker 4: like the past and how you know, long these people
- 10:14Speaker 4: have lived, and then you get to see a new
- 10:17Speaker 4: immortal kind of essentially like be born if you will.
- 10:20Speaker 4: In the present time. So yeah, number two comes out
- 10:24Speaker 4: in July twenty twenty five. This was really well received
- 10:28Speaker 4: on Netflix when it came out. This is like a
- 10:31Speaker 4: superhero film, like you have to watch It's so cool
- 10:34Speaker 4: and it's different. It's like totally different. You know, it's
- 10:37Speaker 4: based on a comic book series. But yeah, what are
- 10:41Speaker 4: your questions?
- 10:42Speaker 1: Why did they break their rule?
- 10:46Speaker 4: So they had worked for that CIA agent before and
- 10:48Speaker 4: that they just they liked him, but really it was
- 10:51Speaker 4: more about the story that he sold them on what
- 10:53Speaker 4: needed to be done, and it was like I think
- 10:55Speaker 4: it was like a handful of kidnapped children in like
- 10:59Speaker 4: South Dan and like, so they just sold them a
- 11:03Speaker 4: story on saving kids and they just made a bad call.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Mmm.
- 11:09Speaker 3: I see, Now, if I recall correctly, you said the
- 11:13Speaker 3: main actors were Charlie's they're on there.
- 11:18Speaker 4: I never say her name, right, Yeah, Charlie Stern is
- 11:21Speaker 4: like the title you know, she's like the title card actress, right,
- 11:24Speaker 4: and then everyone else. She's the only person that you'll
- 11:29Speaker 4: probably that you would recognize off the bat.
- 11:31Speaker 3: Third question, would you say, what's like the the climax
- 11:36Speaker 3: of this movie, Like, like what's like the overall like conflict.
- 11:43Speaker 4: The overall conflict ends up being one or one or
- 11:47Speaker 4: two of the immortals. A couple of the immortals get captured,
- 11:50Speaker 4: and then they have to the rest of them have
- 11:53Speaker 4: to break out their friends from this laboratory that is
- 11:59Speaker 4: like heavily guarded by you know, operatives and other mercenaries
- 12:03Speaker 4: and things like that, because of course they want to
- 12:05Speaker 4: keep there their one, they want to keep their secrets
- 12:08Speaker 4: safe that they're mortal, and they obviously don't want their
- 12:13Speaker 4: friends to be lab rats basically, So that's like the
- 12:14Speaker 4: high the main the main like you know, trouble in
- 12:21Speaker 4: the film. The other cool part too is how the immortals,
- 12:25Speaker 4: who have been around for a millennium, how they discover
- 12:29Speaker 4: a new immortal and so the new mortal essentially like
- 12:33Speaker 4: dot Is like dies in combat and but ends up
- 12:40Speaker 4: having this power and they heal and the old mortals
- 12:44Speaker 4: and the new one end up having they keep having
- 12:47Speaker 4: the same dream about each other, and they have that
- 12:50Speaker 4: they keep having this dream until they find each other.
- 12:52Speaker 4: So it's kind of like a cool way to blend
- 12:55Speaker 4: their powers and their minds in a way until they
- 12:58Speaker 4: can kind of like come together.
- 13:01Speaker 3: So anyway, but so you know, just as a follow
- 13:03Speaker 3: up to that, like just so I think I understand it. So,
- 13:06Speaker 3: like are they kind of like the Eternals, like where
- 13:08Speaker 3: they've like they've been around for a minute, and like
- 13:10Speaker 3: they just kind of humanity and.
- 13:12Speaker 4: Literally they didn't Like it's not like how the eternals
- 13:15Speaker 4: like help humanity build things, but it is very much
- 13:19Speaker 4: like they have literally been around for like since like
- 13:23Speaker 4: the Salem Witch Trials. Like yeah, and before that, notice, yeah,
- 13:29Speaker 4: not all of them, Like Charles's character is I think
- 13:32Speaker 4: the oldest one of the whole crew, and so you know,
- 13:35Speaker 4: over the years she as new immortals came, she found them,
- 13:39Speaker 4: and they all kind of became this tight knit family.
- 13:41Speaker 4: And so yeah, oh, also one other thing, the other
- 13:48Speaker 4: twist is that one of the immortals like essentially like
- 13:51Speaker 4: double cross them or like backstab them during this film,
- 13:54Speaker 4: and like because he's immortal, you can't kill them. So
- 13:58Speaker 4: they have like this really cool rule out of what
- 14:00Speaker 4: to do if like you break the rules of like
- 14:02Speaker 4: their group. But you can watch the movie to find that.
- 14:09Speaker 3: All right, cool, I think I think I have what
- 14:12Speaker 3: I need. So Nick, I pitched you first. Where are
- 14:19Speaker 3: you at? No matter what you say, you have to
- 14:25Speaker 3: tell me why.
- 14:31Speaker 4: I think you had a really solid pitch, but I
- 14:35Speaker 4: am not going to add this to my list.
- 14:37Speaker 3: No, all those awkward minutes at the bar, why aren't
- 14:43Speaker 3: you adding it?
- 14:47Speaker 4: I already have plot concerns just from your explanation. Like
- 14:54Speaker 4: they're on top of a radio tower and they don't
- 14:57Speaker 4: know how to get help. But they're on a radio tower,
- 14:59Speaker 4: so like there's got to be signals, so they can't
- 15:01Speaker 4: call anyone. I'm assuming their bags or their phones get
- 15:04Speaker 4: lost throughout their way, which just seems easy. So and
- 15:07Speaker 4: I know you don't want to talk. We're not going
- 15:08Speaker 4: to give away the movie, but that was already I
- 15:11Speaker 4: was like, well, I don't know. It kind of seems stupid.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Plus not one of your questions, well.
- 15:17Speaker 4: Because I didn't want to like rip apart your film
- 15:19Speaker 4: while you were pitching it.
- 15:20Speaker 2: But there was an answer, but there shouldn't be an answer.
- 15:24Speaker 1: The answer is an answer.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Though the answer is actually a really good answer.
- 15:28Speaker 4: It's not gonna be acceptable. There's no way. Okay, if
- 15:30Speaker 4: your answer is acceptable, I'll change my mind right now.
- 15:32Speaker 1: In this way, the radio tower is defunct.
- 15:35Speaker 4: But they don't have cell phones with them.
- 15:37Speaker 3: They have cell phones with them. But they're also like
- 15:39Speaker 3: fifteen Like what is it fifteen hundred or like two thousand.
- 15:42Speaker 3: There's some ridiculously like high level in the air in
- 15:46Speaker 3: the middle of the desert where there is no signal.
- 15:49Speaker 4: I hate that.
- 15:51Speaker 2: I hate that. It makes sense, Yeah, it makes sense.
- 15:53Speaker 4: Listen. I just don't want to watch a movie about
- 15:56Speaker 4: people who have trauma and they sided to climb a
- 15:58Speaker 4: radio tower to to solve it instead of going to
- 15:59Speaker 4: the Okay, how about that?
- 16:01Speaker 1: You know what? That's fair, because that is what it is.
- 16:04Speaker 2: It's like some hardcore drama.
- 16:08Speaker 4: Go to the gym. You don't, you won't die, same
- 16:10Speaker 4: same thing.
- 16:12Speaker 3: I'm gonna I'm gonna since you're not gonna watch it,
- 16:14Speaker 3: I'm gonna insert something right here, just spoilers. If I
- 16:17Speaker 3: have successfully pitched you on this movie, tell us in
- 16:19Speaker 3: the comments. Also, don't watch this next part. You have
- 16:22Speaker 3: five seconds to turn this off. Wow, I'm gonna put
- 16:26Speaker 3: something at the bottom of the screen here. Uh, skip to
- 16:28Speaker 3: this if you want to keep watching. Okay, you've been worn.
- 16:35Speaker 3: So there is a great twist in this movie where
- 16:39Speaker 3: they've dropped There's a point where they dropped their bag
- 16:42Speaker 3: and I forgot what's in the bag, but it's it's
- 16:44Speaker 3: something that they need. I think I think that actually
- 16:48Speaker 3: might be where the smartphone is, because they do use
- 16:50Speaker 3: the smartphone for something, they just don't use it to
- 16:51Speaker 3: call someone. They have a drone with them, and they
- 16:53Speaker 3: try to use the drone to like get down to
- 16:55Speaker 3: like a nearby like motel or something, right anyway, but
- 17:01Speaker 3: they don't have a ladder, so they have a rope
- 17:04Speaker 3: and they have to like they have to get down
- 17:07Speaker 3: like I don't know, maybe like twenty thirty feet. It's
- 17:10Speaker 3: not that far, but when you're that high up, like
- 17:11Speaker 3: it seems crazy far, right Anyway, it doesn't go well,
- 17:16Speaker 3: and character starts calming back up, but the falls, but
- 17:20Speaker 3: the other character like catches her like on the rope
- 17:22Speaker 3: and then like comes back up right, except you find out,
- 17:27Speaker 3: like later in the movie that that's not actually what happened,
- 17:31Speaker 3: and the girl didn't catch her. And she's been imagining
- 17:36Speaker 3: her being because she's this source of strength for her.
- 17:39Speaker 3: She's been imagining her with her on top of the
- 17:41Speaker 3: tower for the last like twenty four hours, and she
- 17:44Speaker 3: dropped her and fell. She fell on top of a
- 17:47Speaker 3: like the satellites that were connected to the tower. Which
- 17:49Speaker 3: again not that high, but high enough to kill her.
- 17:53Speaker 3: So the main girl has actually been alone for like
- 17:55Speaker 3: the last twenty.
- 17:56Speaker 1: Four hours by herself.
- 17:58Speaker 3: Oh my god, it was a great choice and like
- 17:59Speaker 3: the way it's presented is like fucking awesome, Like it
- 18:02Speaker 3: was such a great like I get honestly get like
- 18:04Speaker 3: goosebumps thinking about it.
- 18:05Speaker 1: It was cool twist.
- 18:07Speaker 4: That's very interesting. And also you said this movie had
- 18:09Speaker 4: a happy ending, and now I'm questioning that statement.
- 18:11Speaker 3: It is still Remember I hesitated, I hesitated, It is
- 18:14Speaker 3: still a happy ending.
- 18:18Speaker 1: I'm still going with back. If you were trying to
- 18:21Speaker 1: avoid spoilers, welcome.
- 18:22Speaker 4: Back, Welcome back, all right, Joe, after my pitch for
- 18:26Speaker 4: the Old Guard, what is your what is your decision?
- 18:28Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I'm in. I'd like, I really am in.
- 18:32Speaker 3: It's it's a comic book movie. I love comic book movies.

- 18:59Speaker 3: So to have a group of them and then to
- 19:03Speaker 3: be challenged by like humanity for whatever secrets they have,
- 19:07Speaker 3: that's very interesting.

- 19:15Speaker 4: like you're gonna love this. You should watch this like
- 19:17Speaker 4: sooner than later for sure.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
