- 1:35[SPEAKER_00]: You know what?
- 1:36[SPEAKER_01]: I always do a double speed.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_01]: And when I hear it slow down, I'm like, what's wrong with this thing?
- 1:40[SPEAKER_02]: It's dead as the best introsong of all time.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I listen very good for pleasure.

- 1:54[SPEAKER_02]: I, I know we, I don't know that we do should do it every month or something, but that would be great.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_02]: That would be great.

- 2:23[SPEAKER_00]: There was so much cross talk every time.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry, buddy.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_00]: It's not your episode.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_02]: It's a town podcast.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_02]: There's too much use of the word like on this podcast, but I'm still going to be forced to.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_02]: uh... all right guys uh... welcome let's talk about uh... u.s.c.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_02]: football the big ten we talk about some some UCLA with Jake yeah uh... i i think i just have to just throw this out there right away we're going into year two we'll have to stop you okay did you guys enjoy the try to
- 2:58[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, the tripe was wonderful.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_01]: And taters and carrots.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_01]: Are you or a farming?
- 3:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_04]: Jake deserves the aura because he made it.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_01]: Guys are the Westbroin studios.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_01]: He made us.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_01]: And I made you dinner first.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_04]: What were the little, the little mini carrots were glazed in something that was lovely.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_01]: It's a maple syrup and some balsamic.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: Nice.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_02]: And try to apply it with liquor a little bit.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_02]: And then it's roasted potatoes.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_02]: I, of course, skipped the carrots because okay, my thoughts.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_01]: I noticed you did that.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_01]: Totally not offended by that.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_04]: Jake made me a private plane.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's, it's, yes.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you and had a Cabernet Simple Serpent, which I made a while ago, and I'm glad it's still functional.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_02]: The crazy thing about her having a private plane is like she's not even like a pastor in the megaturde.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_01]: I know, but she is a U.S.E.O.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A.A
- 3:59[SPEAKER_02]: And we are glad that we are here at Casa the WBS.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_01]: And Jake, you are, you are serpent.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_01]: And in the schools, North Valley location that does have water right now.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you very much.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: God bless Puerto Ranch.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_01]: Barely missed the cut off.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, what, what, what are you drinking there?
- 4:18[SPEAKER_01]: I gave Alicia a private plane.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_01]: So far tonight and this may, you know, comment on my ability on this particular podcast and got a blessing of the one I'm going to host after this, but so far I've had a border crossing, which is whiskey and maple syrup had an old fashion, which I don't have to go over that recipe.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_01]: And I've had a paper plane, which is the original version of Alicia's private plane.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, let's see how, how well I do.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_01]: Can anyone, what, what, what have you had?
- 4:47[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, I've a red wine.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_01]: We served up Kenny some red wine.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_01]: He also had a private.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_00]: I did try that as well.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_01]: That's my official drink for my U.S.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_00]: He charging guests because of very, you know, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's
- 5:12[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I'm glad we're all together.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_02]: We're doing a sort of symposium if you open to it.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_02]: That's your thing.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_02]: And what is the symposium, Michael?
- 5:20[SPEAKER_01]: Let me know.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's the thing that the NFL sends.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_01]: It's a conversation.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_01]: This goes back to antiquity.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_01]: In Greek times, it's a conversation over drinks.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_01]: I always forget that your Roman Empire is the Roman Empire.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: But we're going back beyond that.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_01]: But even before BC Greeks, yeah, before the Romans, kick their ass and made them all their bleachers like the Trojans.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_01]: After that.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_01]: But before Rome, do you believe in dried and believe?
- 5:48[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, absolutely.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_01]: Come on.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, thank you.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_01]: You'll lithium.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just saying a lot of people don't believe in Troy.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_02]: You know, Stanford, Stanford people love to say that, you know, uh, Litteries, uh, literature's most famous losers.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_02]: They call it the legend.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_01]: I like to call it university much more than, you know, let's name it.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_01]: Let's just say the city.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_04]: I want to get into the history of things, but like the city of Troy, very likely existed.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_04]: We just don't know where it is.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: Not ill lithium.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_01]: Illium.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_02]: It's in Turkey, isn't it?
- 6:17[SPEAKER_02]: Well, yeah, we just don't know where like we don't have the they have a place that they assume is is the place.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but looking at each.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, or is the bridge would say a hate, but like it's not a fake city.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_01]: Stay on target.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, sorry.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_02]: Big ten USC you see a leg going into year two in the big ten.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_02]: New place.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_02]: How did we feel?
- 6:41[SPEAKER_02]: Can he, how did we feel about the big ten?
- 6:43[SPEAKER_02]: Definitely different from the, from the back, twelve.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_02]: Surely.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_00]: But we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we
- 6:57[SPEAKER_00]: I have two for the high.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm sorry.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_00]: I'm all good enough.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_00]: Hi.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_00]: I liked that.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_00]: All of our games were on national television and I love the CBS deal.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_02]: That's cool.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_00]: Like people complain about kickoff times people complain about all kinds of stuff.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of those people thought something different was going to happen when we left the pack.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: Twelve that was never going to be the case that was never promised there was never not going to be after dark games.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_00]: There'll be after dark games this year.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_01]: I guarantee it.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_01]: We start with three or two of them.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's going to happen.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_00]: That was never the point, but we have more games on national TV, which is great.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_00]: And our games that aren't, maybe there's a game on peacock or big ten network, but every cable provider has that.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: It's not like the packed well network where you needed a specific subscription to be able to access it.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_02]: Well, you might need a subscription to the cock, but like, I think everybody does for traders.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's like three dollars or whatever.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's much more user-friendly than anything the page will never ever was.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, the crazy thing.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_00]: And it's bonkers thing about how that even worked.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_00]: Or didn't work.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_00]: It's insane.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_00]: And we're obviously talking about football, but especially when we looked at like obviously both US and UCLA women's basketball had incredible seasons last year come.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_00]: The last year we were in the pack twelve, we had like two games on national television.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_00]: Last year we had eleven or twelve.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's for our other sports.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_00]: It's great too.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_00]: That was a high.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_00]: Another high is the fun travel.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_00]: Fun, new opponents, not all of them are fun.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_00]: But like this year, my annual road trip is going to be to Nebraska, which is probably one of ever gone to a Nebraska game, unless we had a home in home.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: That's a fun element.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, is that worth it?
- 8:44[SPEAKER_03]: A big question.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, as of last season, I would say no.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_00]: And that's also my feeling going into this new see.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: That that question's so loaded because the pack twelve was going to die, I think no matter what, that's too much to get into now.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_00]: But is this trade off worth not playing the old teams we used to play is all I'm talking about?
- 9:06[SPEAKER_00]: Nope.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_00]: I would say no.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_04]: I would rather play Arizona state, et cetera, every year and do home and homes with the likes of Maryland and Rutgers and Purdue and all of these then to be in the opposite position where I don't think we're gonna do any home and homes with the big twelve teams now.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_04]: So I think we've just sort of like at least for the time being lost those teams and I'm I'm Loki sad about that.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think there's like this mental gymnastics of thinking like, you know, Michigan State comes to the call same this year, right?
- 9:39[SPEAKER_02]: Michigan comes to the call same this year in my brain.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_02]: So those are basically the non-conference games.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_02]: No, I still think of it that way.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: Like, SC having Texas come in in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in,
- 10:03[SPEAKER_02]: Jake, a year into the big ten stuff.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_02]: Where are you?
- 10:06[SPEAKER_02]: You're in the big ten.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_01]: Look, I'm, I'm think I'm with Kenny and that I solidly wish that the pack, twelve, had enough completely bonked things up like they did because I would love it if we still had a real power for instead of a power two plus, which is what it is.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_01]: I still would love it if the conferences were manageable instead of these like eighteen, sixteen monstrous, you know, things the SEC big ten is just absolutely ridiculous to me.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like we're just a little too big, split into two divisions, conferences, whatever West Coast East Coast all that stuff.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_01]: But it's just unmanageable.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_01]: So for all those reasons, I wish it was the way it was.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_01]: But with that being said, I'm
- 10:48[SPEAKER_01]: If we're going to have to go to the big ten or the SEC or get relegated to the big twelve or the ACC, I'm really glad that USC and UCLA ended up in the big ten as opposed to any of the other places.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_01]: So I think it's a place where they're not going to be comfortable with this national conference, but it's as comfortable as they can be.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_01]: You know, even though these, you know, like you said, do the Michigan and Michigan States, I'll feel like non-conference games, at least it feels like a traditional rosebully type of thing.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like, I think we still had more in common with big ten opponents than we did with anybody else across the country.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_01]: And so I really do miss all of the, I'm not going to say, packed twelve, the packed ten schools other than Arizona, fuck those guys.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_01]: But I miss all of the packed ten schooled packed ten schools, dearly.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_01]: Do you really a pack eight guy?
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, pretty much.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_01]: Wait, who was that?
- 11:37[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I got to say the phrase.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_01]: No, I like who was, who was the Arizona, it was both.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_01]: It was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the Arizona, it was the
- 12:09[SPEAKER_00]: This feels so temporary, doesn't it?
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, my gosh.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_02]: Well, that's my like, you see team schedule.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_02]: I like, I think the ACC is like conference schedules, but do you think like ten feels separate or what do you think the way it's made alignment of the big ten and everything.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_00]: Definitely everything.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: Everything.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, do you think there's a world in which SC and UCLA or SC or UCLA is not in the big ten?
- 12:30[SPEAKER_00]: No, but what the big ten is, I think.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_01]: That I think is.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, right.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_02]: I think what we are heading to the things that's.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_02]: They, you know, had been talked about as a high brain theory a decade ago of the ESPN League in the Fox League, right?
- 12:49[SPEAKER_02]: Like I think you're going to end up with the SEC and the ACC coming together and the big ten and the big twelve or
- 12:56[SPEAKER_02]: However, ends up working out and you have a fox league at an ESPN league and each one is going to have, you know, twenty four teams or whatever.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_02]: Here's my thing.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_00]: Just do it.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_02]: Just do it.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_02]: I ripped the band aid.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_02]: I, I'm with you in this sense that like we've already gone down this road.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_02]: Tradition is already been like the band aid is already been ripped off, right?
- 13:19[SPEAKER_02]: Like SC isn't it is in a conference with Rutgers, right?
- 13:23[SPEAKER_02]: They're in a conference with Maryland coast to coast, baby.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_02]: to talk about Maryland.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we'll too soon to team to SC is no business being in the conference with, right?
- 13:33[SPEAKER_02]: Like at least there's the the only reason that I think that people are are okay with SC being in a in a conference with Ohio State and Michigan.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_02]: is partly nostalgia for the Rose Bowl, and it's, and it's money, right?
- 13:49[SPEAKER_02]: If it wasn't for those two reasons, we'd all think it was crazy.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_02]: And we all think it's crazy with Rutgers and Maryland, right?
- 13:55[SPEAKER_02]: So like, we're already in this reality where college football does not make sense.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_02]: SMU is in the ACC.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_02]: Like, that blows my mind too.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_00]: Tells and they see five.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_02]: I'm there in the Atlantic coast comfort.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_02]: None of it makes sense.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_01]: The big twelve has what fourteen teams are whatever it is.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_01]: But by the way, UCLA, USC, Oregon, Washington are way more big ten teams than Rutgers and fucking Maryland.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_01]: Like we all agree on that shit.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_00]: I wouldn't say that they have the more football pedigree.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_02]: more in the more in common with the big- big- big- big- big- big- big- big- big- ten teams.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_02]: Either way, but to go to go to go to go to Kenny's point.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_02]: Like,
- 14:41[SPEAKER_02]: we're so we're so far down the road that like there's a lot of me that would like to just fast forward to twenty forty and whatever the hell the situation is not long I think no I agree I don't know that's going to be that long as it's probably like six years away or whatever I'll be sixty five
- 15:00[SPEAKER_00]: That's, let's not talk about.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_00]: Really?
- 15:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's the fucking five thing.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_02]: And you still won't be, no, you will be retired because you have a government job.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I'll be retired with like in fifteen years that boy, baby.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna turn my keys.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna be like, hey, I'm done, guys.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_01]: And then keep paying me to lie die.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_01]: God bless pensions.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_02]: If we could just get to the point where this is just what Paul is.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 15:29[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_02]: Like, like, for instance, the equivalent of like being in nineteen ninety six and saying, can we just fast forward to twenty fourteen?
- 15:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_02]: Like, like that sort of equivalent of like things are starting to happen.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_02]: The, you know, in nineteen ninety six number one number two finally played the end of the season as long as that weren't a big ten or pectin team because then you still wouldn't play.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_02]: See the ninety ninety seven split championship.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_02]: But at least like you could see that the future college football was still moving and it does because the ninety eight you get the BCS.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_02]: And then the BCS expands in in in two thousand five right like.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_02]: All these kind of things keep going down and you know that it's still going to move.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_00]: We literally only had one year of the playoff as it existed and they changed.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_04]: Well, but that's the my plan I have talked about this like.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_02]: Like a seeding got immediately.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_04]: College football.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_04]: Well, and fixed is a is doing.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_04]: My plan I have talked that you at the college football needs a Vatican to they need a
- 16:37[SPEAKER_04]: They need all the power brokers to come together, put them in a room and have them emerge with something a new structure, new agreements, new understanding of how everything is going to work.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_04]: And there's going to have to be compromises and all that kind of stuff, but like just get that get everyone in a room and have them come up with a coherent
- 16:56[SPEAKER_04]: conference situation, playoff situation, uh, alignment situation, payment situation.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_04]: Well, I mean, I think it's absurd that a hundred and thirty three teams are in this division in the first place.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_00]: Um, you would relegate.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_04]: I would relegate, but, but this is also what makes this unrealistic because no one wants to, you know, be relegated with hundred and thirty three how many teams?
- 17:20[SPEAKER_04]: I would do I would ask in the wrong question.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_04]: I would do forty forty teams.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_00]: That's too small.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_01]: No no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no
- 17:45[SPEAKER_00]: They will expand it.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_00]: I had twelve is fine.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_04]: I think twelve is fine.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_04]: Pro is perfectly fine if they need to go to the scene.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_04]: I guess, but twelve is perfect.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_01]: But we need like a bunch of auto.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_00]: It was fine.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_00]: Like a ton of auto.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_01]: To be honest.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_01]: A ton of auto bits.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_01]: We all agree on that.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_01]: Of course.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_00]: We have to tell the big ten lines.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_02]: I think you should do the English football thing.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_02]: And FCS becomes division one.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_02]: And then you have FBS as we know it split into at least two.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_02]: And you have basically what constituted to P five and G five, right?
- 18:25[SPEAKER_02]: Like, yeah.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_02]: And those are two.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_02]: And it sucks because I would never accept this.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_02]: No, they would never think these are all like pipe streams.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_02]: And like this is the part that sucks for like, if you're a boysy state fan because like,
- 18:38[SPEAKER_02]: They're, you are like doing the separate pretty cool bullshit where like, you're telling, well, you can win a national title, but it's, you know, a lesser national title, like they absolutely can't, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, that's not fair to them to tell them they can't be in it.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_01]: Like, like, if your boy's estate is like right now is as good as it's ever been for them, that they absolutely can get to the national platform.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_01]: But this is why I think on realistic, I think they can never win the title, but they absolutely can be in the playoff.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_01]: And that's I think that's good enough.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, but like this is why like this is why I think it would only work if you instituted promotion and relegation.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_02]: And and call a triple call sports in general the only sport where we can do it in America, right?
- 19:22[SPEAKER_02]: Like baseball is never going to have it because there's minor league teams and blah, blah, blah, but like
- 19:28[SPEAKER_02]: there's no sense of like buying a franchise and then never agreeing to be relegated because you're the value of that franchise is depleted now that you've been relegated that doesn't exist in college football like if you're
- 19:43[SPEAKER_02]: athletic programs value goes down because you're in a lower level, like that's just what happens in college.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's a title.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_04]: But it's a title that equity enters the picture that's not going to be the case in the bottom.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_01]: I can't conceive of a world in which they ever come up with a scheme where they do have the relegation like all the others.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, it's just not going to happen.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_01]: So then in my opinion, it's not going to happen in the current landscape, but if you've had a continued hit,
- 20:08[SPEAKER_01]: What they're not, but they're not gonna do that.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_01]: No, I agree.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_01]: But they're not.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_01]: That's a thing.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_01]: So we're in like, we're talking about right now.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_00]: We're talking about realistic reals.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_01]: We know we have twelve teams right now.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_01]: We know that.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_01]: likely we might go to sixteen right and all likely have we will probably happen yeah and so we're like really like if you do it with like what's actually in reality it's like you prefer the twelve you prefer the sixteen you want the Autobots you want to have the stupid committee decide everything which obviously you can tell i'm against uh like how do you guys feel about the
- 20:39[SPEAKER_01]: Twelve or sixteen, how would you break it down with the auto bits or not having auto bits?
- 20:43[SPEAKER_01]: You should have more auto bits or less auto bits?
- 20:45[SPEAKER_01]: Because I'm pretty clear about how I think this is.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_04]: My problem with auto bits is that auto bits as they're currently being discussed are going to be, uh, meet it out differently depending on your conference.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_04]: But why not under the assumption that every year the number of teams in X conference or B conference is going to be justifiably this number versus that number and you sort of lock in, like, yes, what you end up locking in on the field.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_04]: You lock, no, no, something.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_04]: You lock in that the SEC in big ten or your supreme conferences because they're everybody else or second class citizens has their which point.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_04]: Why not just fast forward to being two conferences and just yeah, but they whoa.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_00]: I think they will.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_04]: I do think that eventually we will get there and that's that's the thing, but like, but in that case, like for me, when it comes to the playoff.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_04]: I don't actually care because I think that no matter what the champion will be crowned whoever is worthy of being the champion will be crowned whether it's sixteen or twelve.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_04]: I don't really care if number fourteen is in or out.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_04]: I don't really care if number eleven is in or out.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_04]: So like that part doesn't matter to me.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_04]: The only thing that I don't like is the the codification of
- 22:08[SPEAKER_04]: The big ten and the SEC are conferences A and B and everybody else or one one A and one B and the ACC in big twelve or just picking up scraps and then the G five is picking up scraps and then it's like okay, so you're already stating outright in this structure that the conferences that matter are the big ten the big ten and the SEC so like why not just
- 22:32[SPEAKER_01]: But not really, though, because if you auto bid for all four of the power, quote, unquote, power five, it's really the power two and then the power, then the power, you know, to be right.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_01]: But if you say four for the big ten ACC, four, I mean, four for the big ten SEC, two for the big twelve ACC, and you look at the teams and like how they do year to year.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's appropriate.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_01]: Well, not again, the leftovers for the fucking group of five plus Notre Dame of their good.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I like that to me.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_01]: That's what's fine.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_04]: So in an ideal world, what I would say is that there should be no autobids.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_04]: And I hear that idea forced Notre Dame to go into a conference.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_04]: And if you're going to do four for the SEC four for the for the big ten two for the ACC two for the big twelve and the or or three for each of those and then the last two or three for the G five.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_04]: Bill in your sixteen year twelve, whatever it is with only those conferences.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm not a name joins.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_04]: because because right now they're not going to so if you want to do it by conference record then that's the way you should do it.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_00]: But so I mean my my thing with it that I find so funny is they expanded this to twelve teams last year pretty much everyone agreed which is kind of crazy but that first weekend was that no the first weekend was really bad.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_04]: Well no it was bad but like the atmosphere's
- 23:53[SPEAKER_00]: That was awesome, but the game is for bad.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the best game was what Notre Dame Indiana, Indiana and even NASA blow out.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and so the solution from that is to add more teams in.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I don't think you need more teams.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think you need to.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_01]: I make it more standard what the criteria for getting in is.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_01]: And that's why I hate the auto.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_01]: That's why I hate not having auto bids because I don't ever want to leave it up to fucking condolers arise and all the dipshits in the SDC to inflate their fucking schedules.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_01]: And then say, Oh, the SEC, every fucking year deserves eighteen.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_01]: But that's what everybody else parsed up the rest.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_04]: That's exactly why if you want to do auto bids, I find with auto bids, but then know what, no, not largest.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_01]: Well, just I think you have to have that largest to figure out the group of five.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_04]: You know, Notre Dame, I would give as Notre Dame.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_04]: I, Michael, you might just, you might just, you might just don't go to the group of five.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_04]: That's the problem.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_04]: The at-larges will go to not the group of five.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's my point.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_01]: I don't bid for the conferences and they get shit otherwise.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I'm saying.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think we read them there.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_01]: And the only at large bits are Notre Dame if they're good and G five.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_01]: That's it.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_02]: If we are talking equity and I don't transparency for like everybody knows what they need to do and everyone has a chance to win an national championship, which I think are two things that most people agree on wanting, right?
- 25:14[SPEAKER_02]: You're very adamant that you want transparency in knowing what you need to do to qualify, right?
- 25:19[SPEAKER_02]: And I want it on the field.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want fucking committee to decide.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_02]: No, right.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_02]: I don't necessarily agree with that, but I understand why you do and I understand that logic.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_02]: So let's talk that out.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_02]: Why is it that the big ten would get four in the ACC gets three and then this conference gets this number like unless you're going to do it like you wafe does with the champions league where it's mathematically determined on coefficients of success and all this stuff and that's why one league gets five and the other one gets four and the other one gets three
- 25:56[SPEAKER_02]: That would make more sense if it had some sort of of of, you know, this is based on, you know, the SEC this year is going to get five teams because mathematically, the SEC teams are more successful, blah, blah, blah, no, because of this, because of this standard.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_02]: That would not.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_02]: Hold on, that would make more sense to me than it would be like we're just going to decide that the SEC gets more teams in the ACC because the SEC has the bigger swimming in this.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_01]: This is why it's if you ask a hundred college ball fans and know anything about college football, who the best conferences are.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to say the big ten SEC, a hundred times out of a hundred and then who are the who are the three and four?
- 26:32[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to say the ACC in the big twelve, a hundred out of a hundred.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we all know that that's true.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_01]: So that's why you can wait it.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_01]: That's why you can.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_01]: I understand that in a particular year, the SEC might have better teams, right?
- 26:43[SPEAKER_02]: But my opinion, or AC, or whatever, but these playoffs are for particular years.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_02]: So like if there's a year with the ACC is better than the SEC, which is thoroughly possible.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, like, it's a lot of things that happen.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_04]: Hold on, no, but, and how many?
- 27:01[SPEAKER_01]: Five years.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_04]: But like, but the teams, then the four, five years when the ACC has two autobids and the SEC in Big Ten have four, and then Florida State Miami and Clemson are all really damn good.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_04]: What are you going to do when you're going to leave one of them out?
- 27:16[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so my response to all of this is then we don't need out a bit.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_02]: If it's if everybody knows that the big ten in the SEC are the two big conferences and the two best conferences and they're always going to be better than the other ones and they're always going to have better teams.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_01]: then why do you need it mandated that you're talking to something to put the bricks in the SEC and check.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_01]: They need something to find so they can't keep reaching for more and reaching for more because those assholes play fucking four real games in a season three fucking patsies and then three games against the bottom of the drugs of their conference.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's as a big tends a little bit like that, too, but at least they play the, you know, the more robust conference schedule.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_01]: But that's why the SEC's always trying to game it.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_01]: They need something to confine the SEC into a fucking defined
- 28:02[SPEAKER_01]: This is the funny thing.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_01]: They write the rule.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_04]: This is the funny thing because the SEC was in favor of the auto bids until they figured out that they'd get more bids if there weren't a lot of it.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_01]: That's my point.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_01]: That's exactly my fucking point because the Rando College of Wellvans and what's going on and then any of the casual College of Ball fan slash any other fan is like, oh, yeah, the SEC.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_01]: The SEC.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_01]: The SEC.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's like just it's just accepted as true.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_01]: And no, as I in the big ten, I just will footing.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_02]: I just want if you're going to have bids then I want some some actual independent and it's never going to happen because cultural ball is.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_02]: Governo is blocking such a thing is governed by the you know that it's the the inmates running the prison kind of yeah situation with cultural ball right there is no central body govern governing body the NCAA has no authority over FBS football, etc.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_02]: So
- 28:59[SPEAKER_02]: If the, if the auto bitch were determined by a third party, I would just feel so much better about it.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_02]: If the auto bitch are strictly going to be who has the, who has the most money to buy into the thing, then like that Michael, it's just it's it's it sucks who are the best two conferences in the country year in and year out.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the big ten in the right now.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_01]: Best, too.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_01]: The ACC in the big twelve.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like everybody knows that.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_01]: And that's why the thing.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_01]: Well, then why do we need to make like because because the biggest problem with all these assholes is, they can't stop trying to pull things to themselves and game themselves in a system.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_01]: So you need a system to give them boundaries, give them confines so that they just let the thing play out.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_01]: And that's why I hear we have to have the Autobots.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_01]: Why?
- 29:45[SPEAKER_02]: No, anything that makes sense to put a brand.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think it makes sense to put restrictions on on that stuff.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_02]: But like I don't think it actually work like you're still allowing them to run the whole thing.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_02]: Like, they're still picking the number of their own autopids.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_02]: I don't understand what that means.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_02]: Because that's how it is now.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_02]: Like, if there are autobids, it will be determined by the SEC in the big ten, deciding that they want autobids.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_01]: No, you're just making a fair number to distribute how the power of the conferences is.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_01]: The SEC too, too.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_01]: No, but that the this is where and a three in mice.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_01]: This is raised the way I'd break up the twelve is three big ten three SEC two ACC two big twelve two group of five slash Notre Dame is good to me.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_04]: That's perfect for twelve if you go to sixteen then it's four four two two whatever right so the I think the current model that the big the big ten is pushing is the four four two two
- 30:45[SPEAKER_04]: two here's a whatever whatever it is, but the point here, Michael is that what I will give to Jake on this is that putting this in place will mean that the SEC and the big ten are are on even are half to be on even footing, yeah, which means that the SEC cannot be above or below and that locks the show of them into the same tier, which means that no one is getting more
- 31:11[SPEAKER_01]: IMO, in my opinion, the most important thing is not to define what the ACC Big Twelve group of five get.
- 31:19[SPEAKER_01]: The most important thing in my mind is to define what the ACC and the Big Ten get.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_01]: whether it's a little more a little less, if you define it, then all these fucking guys to stop arguing, fucking Paul Pimepon, Paul Pimepon can go, you know, back to his little corner and complain about whatever he complains about, and we'll least we know.
- 31:36[SPEAKER_01]: And then everything else is whatever it is.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_01]: Because what are the odds that a team other than a big tenor SEC team in a given year is going to win the national title, it's much lower than it ever used to be.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_01]: Now what I'll put back on this is I think that the
- 31:52[SPEAKER_04]: conference schedules now become a very difficult part of this auto bid situation, especially if you are, you know, teams that have locked in your, your built in your protected rival or whatever is more challenging than somebody else's protected rivals.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_04]: Then, then it's like, well, what year did you end up getting, you know, was this the year that USC had the really easy schedule or the.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, but that's always.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_04]: I know, but I think it becomes even more elevated that question of what is spent in just in an eighteen, twenty teen conference, there are too many teams in these conference.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_00]: There are absolutely are.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_00]: So you're sort of asking for for some trouble there because there's too many or there's not enough because this gets so simplified.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you can't just let it to this can and Fox.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_00]: And and then it works like that.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_00]: I fell.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_04]: Well, I mean, the ideal here, honestly, the ideal here, again, we're going out to things that will happen.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_04]: But again, it's to split things into divisions, have division winners go up against conference to you sort of create a auto bid for each conference.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_04]: See, I think that is tears by having a tournament built around those conference.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_04]: I think that sort of, but that's not realistic.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_02]: I think there's a lot of sense to that, but I do worry that you end up with the
- 33:15[SPEAKER_02]: NHL issue where like you've segmented out like the first round of the playoffs, the first two rounds of the playoffs are within your own division and then you end up with the kings losing to the Euler's twenty eight years in a row because you can't play anybody else.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, because I think there would be a world in which maybe the fair thing is there's a there's a big ten tournament and there's an SEC tournament and there's a nice but then the problem with that is you'd end up with patches and the problem with that is it takes away from what makes college football unique which is a regular season mattering.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, a hundred percent.
- 33:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, as much as it does.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't care about that nearly.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_01]: I do.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_00]: I do.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_01]: I do because which is why I don't want out of it.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_01]: But you lose Notre Dame.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_01]: I see.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_02]: I do not want.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not blaming Ohio State for this.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_02]: But I do not want a situation where Ohio State is validated by not having their season completely ruined by losing the Michigan.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_02]: And I think it sets the precedence for if Ohio State goes into that game eleven and
- 34:25[SPEAKER_02]: And you've already got, you've already clenched one of the top four big ten spots.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_02]: What happens in that FL?
- 34:30[SPEAKER_02]: You set your, you set your starters.
- 34:32[SPEAKER_02]: And I know that people are gonna say, you're never gonna set your starters against Michigan.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_02]: Theoretically, yes, but you also end up with, this is also a sport in which Lincoln Riley is okay with getting rid of the Notre Dame game for competitive reasons, right?
- 34:47[SPEAKER_01]: Already gone.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_01]: Number one, it's already gone.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_01]: You talk about the having the playoff and then having the right to see the matters on stuff.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_01]: Where do you guys land on the straw man argument of?
- 35:03[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I just don't think that we should ever have a college football team that's, you know, whatever, nine and three or I think that's where they get a playoff.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_01]: You know that you know the odds of them actually winning a game more to in the plap is absolutely like nil.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_00]: It makes it fun, but if they do then they've deserved it.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not taking anything away from my house.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's mostly like I just worry about the precedents going forward.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_02]: that like a season defining loss to Michigan.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, thirty nine.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, that game matter.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_02]: Thirty nine game.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but you feel you feel you.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_02]: You hate it for a week.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_04]: And then you get over in the nine have mattered though.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_04]: Like that when you look at that team, that team deserve to play for more.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_04]: I'd talk to you as an eight.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, the only difference between thirteen and two thousand eight is that Oregon states at the beginning of the season.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_04]: It's not UCLA.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_04]: But like it's still a, it's still scenario where a single game shouldn't kill your season.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_00]: But that's part of college football.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_04]: I know and I get and I get that, but also like if we're being honest with this part of the phone of college will pass.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, as far as part and you know what and you know what Michigan fans still get to that Michigan fans are still having fun with the fact that they be to Ohio State.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's not like they don't care that they be to Ohio State does.
- 36:31[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not looking at this from the the massacre's perspective of like I want good teams to be punished by their season like I want, you know, it's good that SE got punished by losing their UCLA team.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_02]: They never stood a loss until the
- 36:43[SPEAKER_02]: It's not that that part.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_02]: It's the part that I worry that down the line, those losses will be so devalued to the point where you can end up not playing your starters because you're so many of the game.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_02]: The starters aren't even playing in bold games.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, right?
- 37:01[SPEAKER_00]: The fear, the fear, Michael, that to extrapolate this, right?
- 37:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 37:05[SPEAKER_00]: To go way out is that college football becomes like college basketball.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and no one cares about the regular season.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_00]: No one normal cares about the regular season of college basketball.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_00]: It just is what it is.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_04]: Well, the the the big difference though is that there are fewer games and there are so many teams that like I don't think you end up in a situation.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_04]: I don't think you're going to very often end up in a situation.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_04]: where there will be the majority of teams that are competing for playoff spots are, you know, already at three losses or whatever.
- 37:36[SPEAKER_04]: I think you're gonna all be with a lot of teams with one or two loss.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_01]: It being an exception.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_01]: And that's a thing.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, there is a huge gulf and that's people use these as strawman arguments.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, what if there's a new team of left?
- 37:47[SPEAKER_01]: And then, oh, you're gonna devalue the play.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's gonna be like college basketball.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_01]: But the thing is, there's a huge gulf between the twelve games of the college football season and, you know, the forty games of the college.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_01]: And like, we can get a little closer without it being that.
- 37:59[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and that's a thing that fucking people can't wrap their brain around, but the horses are already out of the crowd at this point.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_01]: And so you have to do like what's best now to make it the most fair.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_01]: And we all talked about we started this fucking podcast talking about how we missed the goddamn Pact twelve.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yes.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_01]: Do you miss back to old Michael?
- 38:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_01]: Do you miss back to old Kenny?
- 38:20[SPEAKER_00]: I fucking miss the packed well.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_01]: And you know what killed the past twelve when these cocks, sorry, if I'm a little blue on your air, these bastards went to a better year.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_01]: Fourteen playoff instead of a five-ton playoff.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it was going to murder the pack twelve.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_00]: But it shouldn't have.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_00]: It should have murdered.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it was going to murder one of the two and that was a competition.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but the fact also, but I'm just saying that murder that that when they went to four it was automatically said that one of those conferences is going to get murdered and it turned out to be us.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, but that's what I'm saying like we it's the backwards thing if we had to preserve this man preserve it or whatever you could
- 38:58[SPEAKER_01]: College football is still going to be caught with ball until the end of time.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_01]: If you have guys that are eighteen to twenty two or twenty seven with your COVID bonus, competing on this level.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's still going to be the same thing.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to group our fucking senior fight songs.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to be the fight on fingers.
- 39:13[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to go for is up and and like change that.
- 39:16[SPEAKER_00]: I know you're you're not a tailgate guy, but like it's it's a day long event.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_00]: People are going to like
- 39:23[SPEAKER_00]: I have friends.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_00]: I complain about changes in college football.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_00]: Guess what we're going to be on Saturday.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_04]: Well, I was going to say that's the thing is like college football beyond the games.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_04]: College football is a culture college.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_04]: Like the reason we love college football is because of the things that are part of college football culture.
- 39:41[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm not keeping for the changes that are coming, but the things that are part of college football culture that remain.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_04]: are not going to be impacted by what size the playoff is.
- 39:55[SPEAKER_04]: Bands, mascots, tailgating, school pride.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_04]: Like all of those kinds of things are still part of the fabric of college football, whether or not playing the players, whether or not the playoff is or isn't.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_04]: So yeah, I wouldn't be as like, you know,
- 40:18[SPEAKER_04]: doom and gloom on that front, I just think that can get frustrating with all of the structural changes.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just happy that S.C.
- 40:24[SPEAKER_01]: and UCLA are in the fucking big boy town and we'd be dead.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_01]: We're on the widest side.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_02]: That's part of that.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_02]: We're not the underdog.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_01]: At least for now.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_02]: They're not the underdogs, but you know, can I can tell you who is?

- 41:05[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be lower, lower than whatever the stat projection is, but you look at the stat projection.

- 42:14[SPEAKER_04]: Hope and why was actively rooting for UCLA today and it makes me feel dirty.
- 42:20[SPEAKER_04]: I'm happy that UCLA one.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_02]: I'm happy that you see one.
- 42:26[SPEAKER_02]: Jake, Jake.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_02]: We don't have to talk about it.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_02]: No, no.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_02]: God, you see.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_02]: Jake, the underdog read is over.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_02]: We don't have to keep talking about underdogs.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_04]: Size only matters if you can beat size with technique.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_00]: That is so true, Alicia.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_04]: I agree.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_04]: I despise UCLA.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_00]: That was true.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_00]: I agree.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 42:47[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 42:49[SPEAKER_02]: Let's get on topic with.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_02]: We talked about the big ten, which spiraled into a big playoff discussion.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_00]: Which.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we do.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know that we had on the docket, but here we go.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_02]: Let's do hot big ten minutes.
- 43:02[SPEAKER_01]: Play.
- 43:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's time for a high big ten minutes store for rain to try.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_01]: Good enough.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_01]: And now are we starting big ten are we gonna go more?
- 43:15[SPEAKER_02]: We've got a big ten minutes every about SC and UCLA.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_02]: Jake, we've got your here.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_02]: You're here.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_02]: You're here at your house.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 43:25[SPEAKER_02]: You're here on our podcast.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_01]: In the Westboro Institute of Life.
- 43:30[SPEAKER_02]: We're inside the ears.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_02]: Well, you're listening to this right now.
- 43:33[SPEAKER_02]: Look, you're jogging, you're running.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_02]: We are here inside of your earbud.
- 43:38[SPEAKER_01]: That's right.
- 43:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_02]: Jake, you're inside of this this person's earbud.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_02]: Who's listening to it.
- 43:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you might hear for you.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_02]: You might need a Q-tip, but that way.
- 43:49[SPEAKER_02]: Jake, yes.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_02]: I have a confession.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_02]: I like.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think I knew anything about UCLA football last year compared to any other UCLA season of my interesting.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_02]: Like it was the most, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like like, like, like, like
- 44:18[SPEAKER_02]: badly.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_02]: We had this conversation to dinner about who the quarterback was.
- 44:21[SPEAKER_02]: I couldn't tell you.
- 44:23[SPEAKER_02]: And then you're like, it was Ethan Garber's.
- 44:25[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, okay, his name is Ethan.
- 44:26[SPEAKER_01]: He's calling me.
- 44:27[SPEAKER_01]: I just have a drop out of took off my board.
- 44:29[SPEAKER_01]: This is gone.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_01]: because everybody pronounce his name, Chase Scarbers.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_01]: So literally on like seven national podcasts last year, oh, Chase Scarbers.
- 44:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, no, it's not Chase's Ethan asshole.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_02]: So, okay.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_02]: So you see a leg going into big ten year, too.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, where are you?
- 44:46[SPEAKER_01]: Where are you on?
- 44:47[SPEAKER_01]: I am in the brewerly.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_01]: excited about UCLA going into year two because I thought that UCLA squandered a very big opportunity to have a pretty decent team in year one and they started the season by tying their hands behind their back and deploying one of the worst offenses in college football history run by Fredo Eric B. Enemy who is known for three like two or three seasons of college football offenses all three of them like literally the worst in history.
- 45:14[SPEAKER_01]: uh, Colorado in like the, uh, two thousand, ten, two thousand lemon seasons under, uh, Emory, and then now this last season under, uh, the Sean Foster.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_01]: So I was terrified about the offense going into last season with the Bruins, um, and it turned out to be as bad as I feared.
- 45:27[SPEAKER_01]: And that really took a team that had some players on offense that were fairly talented that probably could have been good if they were running any sort of college offense.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_01]: and really made them useless.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_01]: And then the defense, it squandered defense that wasn't, you know, wasn't great, but it was certainly pretty good.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_01]: And so UCLA starts off the season and struggles mildly.
- 45:47[SPEAKER_01]: They take a while to get a couple of wins off their belt.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_01]: They actually ran off five straight losses, a couple of which I, a few of which I attended.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_01]: And then they got, got the shit together, like I see a little bit beating records.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_01]: You may as well remember that feels right.
- 46:00[SPEAKER_01]: Did you guys beat Nebraska as well?
- 46:01[SPEAKER_01]: We did.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_01]: We, we got that.
- 46:04[SPEAKER_01]: That was going to the end of my three.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'll get to that in a second, but like they got on a little bit of a streak, uh, three in a row.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_01]: And they lost the Washington SE that game against SE with my avid, whatever.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_01]: And then they winning its first state, but they ended the season much better than they started.
- 46:19[SPEAKER_01]: even though they had the worst offense and college wall history, Sean Foster in his first half year as head coach had these guys playing hard the entire season.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_01]: And then that's the best thing you can say about the Bruins last year is that they never had a game where they're just like, ah, we were we're phoned it in.
- 46:35[SPEAKER_01]: And that gave me hope for this season where they actually hired a real coordinator, even though he's never called place.
- 46:41[SPEAKER_01]: And then they went out and got themselves a real quarterback, even though I loved Ethan.
- 46:45[SPEAKER_01]: I think Nico, you might love it is a little bit
- 46:47[SPEAKER_01]: better, better rewards.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm looking forward to a defense that lost a lot of guys for the second year in a row, but it actually looks like they might be okay.
- 46:58[SPEAKER_00]: It's it's interesting.
- 47:00[SPEAKER_00]: Anytime a team loses five in a row and doesn't just fall and just say, oh, it's over.
- 47:04[SPEAKER_00]: Just pack it in.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_00]: That speaks volumes, I think.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_00]: And I agree that can.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_04]: Especially to beat teams like Nebraska and Iowa, like it's one thing, Rutgers was a punching bag, but Nebraska and Iowa,
- 47:14[SPEAKER_04]: That Iowa game was a very big surprise those those aren't teams that roll over and die for team that's not good like you know you have to fight hard.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, I mean the Rutgers and the Nebraska games both those games were on the road.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_02]: I think is is a testament to Big Ten stuff because we saw last year that the home road splits were real, right?
- 47:32[SPEAKER_02]: teams coming out west Iowa indiana indiana was the like the outlier right like indiana absolutely turn a blanked UCLA at the rosebola in early in the season and I was kind of worried about it and it kind of expecting it a little bit not like that I thought was going to close a game but they were they were like the only ten state
- 47:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Penn, Penn State nearly loses to a six and six.
- 47:55[SPEAKER_02]: I see.
- 47:56[SPEAKER_01]: Wow, don't be starting that Penn State game because they usually like got way too much credit for that because they started a quarter I could never started before in that game and then they like they hung in there within thirty points for like most of the game.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, oh my gosh, it's so great, but it's a terrible game.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_01]: But the thing.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_01]: to Kenny's point.
- 48:11[SPEAKER_01]: They lost five in a row.
- 48:12[SPEAKER_01]: But the last game they lost was the most important loss they had because they lost a very, you know, kind of narrow game at the Rose Bowl to the Frick and Rutherboters of Minnesota.
- 48:20[SPEAKER_04]: I reckon Minnesota.
- 48:21[SPEAKER_01]: Fucking Minnesota.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_01]: Woo, USC lost it was like, well, last year.
- 48:24[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like that game was where they really could have packed in the season and said, fuck it, we give up.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_01]: And they came out and then they won the next three games and could have won the games after that as well.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_01]: And so that Minnesota game was a huge game for USC and for UCLA.
- 48:36[SPEAKER_01]: And that they lost that game.
- 48:38[SPEAKER_01]: They shouldn't have lost that game, but they did.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_01]: But then they managed to kind of, you know, pick themselves up by the bootstraps and then like really show to Sean Foster and, you know, Los Angeles that they were still kind of ready to play.
- 48:50[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you mentioned Minnesota.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_02]: PJ Fleck.
- 48:54[SPEAKER_02]: I, I think so much of the stuff is cringe, right?
- 48:57[SPEAKER_02]: Like, the row your votes.
- 48:59[SPEAKER_02]: I know it has a great meaning and story and origin story and yeah, take nothing away from that, right?
- 49:04[SPEAKER_02]: But like,
- 49:05[SPEAKER_02]: It's a lot of it's corny, right?
- 49:09[SPEAKER_02]: The tie on the sideline corny, right?
- 49:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 49:12[SPEAKER_02]: He, he won me over in a lot of ways, but bowl wise for how Minnesota plays.
- 49:19[SPEAKER_02]: And I thought he thoroughly out coach, Lincoln Riley last year.
- 49:22[SPEAKER_02]: He, you know, he definitely out coached us on at the end of that game.
- 49:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 49:25[SPEAKER_02]: And then there were a tough team to play.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_02]: There were really tough team to play, but
- 49:29[SPEAKER_02]: I can't even, when you're looking at SC going into your two, sort of the same question, like we've talked at Nazim, you know, all offseason about our thoughts about where the Trojans are, but like, where are you, are you excited?
- 49:43[SPEAKER_02]: You talk about your, you're going to this Nebraska game in November.
- 49:47[SPEAKER_02]: Are you excited?
- 49:48[SPEAKER_02]: Um, because it's college rapport, you're excited because of this U.S.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_00]: e. football team itself.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_00]: But no, the four, I'm excited to go with my U.S.
- 49:55[SPEAKER_00]: e. friends to go on a vacation and go to a new stadium and all that stuff.
- 50:00[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we, we talked about this literally a year ago.
- 50:03[SPEAKER_00]: Um, last year, expectations were not high for U.S.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_00]: e. we were ranked like twenty four, some barely ranked.
- 50:10[SPEAKER_00]: Um,
- 50:11[SPEAKER_00]: This is still coming out.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_00]: I think like the day before the AP rankings is after the coaches Paul USC won't be ranked in the AP.
- 50:17[SPEAKER_00]: I would guarantee it.
- 50:18[SPEAKER_00]: They weren't in the coaches.
- 50:19[SPEAKER_00]: I mean USC has only not been ranked in one preseason since Pete Carroll before this.
- 50:26[SPEAKER_00]: That was twenty nineteen.
- 50:28[SPEAKER_00]: That a lot of times we buy into a narrative also that when USC doesn't have expectations that they're good.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_00]: That sometimes has happened.
- 50:38[SPEAKER_00]: That is not always the case.
- 50:39[SPEAKER_00]: The twenty nineteen team started unranked and they ended unranked.
- 50:42[SPEAKER_00]: Last year, USA was ranked like twenty four it twenty to twenty five.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_00]: We know how last year ended that like I I would say going into this year.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't feel great.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_00]: I kind of an overarching question that I also wanted to ask you, Jake, about this because I have the same question for UCLA.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_00]: Does this roster look better than last year's roster for either team?
- 51:13[SPEAKER_01]: I'm an answer for that.
- 51:15[SPEAKER_01]: And for me, it's, you know, they lost a lot of dudes, but who they brought in and by the way, I answer question.
- 51:23[SPEAKER_01]: I have no idea, but I am optimistic about it that they could be better because the places where they were lacking on the offensive line where they lost a lot of dudes and they have a lot of come back.
- 51:34[SPEAKER_01]: They have a bunch of bodies now.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_01]: They have like ten guys that are all like three and twenty pounds and all seem like they can't play.
- 51:40[SPEAKER_01]: And then our defensive back squad, probably like twenty defensive backs.
- 51:43[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like they brought a new coach that was an old coach for us.
- 51:46[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like I'm optimistic about that.
- 51:47[SPEAKER_01]: And then UCLA has shown the last couple years.
- 51:50[SPEAKER_01]: They're good at manufacturing linebackers.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_01]: So we have three guys that were pretty good before that are kind of like stepping into the role.
- 51:55[SPEAKER_01]: And we still have three guys on the defensive in the defensive tackle area that are all like three and forty pounds and can play.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_01]: So it's like.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_01]: Really, you know, you go, you know, we got in a great, we're anywhere from Cal and we got a great quarterback and, you know, like, so I'm actually very bullish about what they can be this year, even though some of it's improving.
- 52:12[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm happy with the roster to be said as even relative to last year near four, where they lost a bunch of guys to the NFL, which is pretty crazy to me.
- 52:18[SPEAKER_01]: I wouldn't have thought that, but that's how it is.
- 52:21[SPEAKER_00]: How do you both feel?
- 52:23[SPEAKER_04]: I think defensively, U.S.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_04]: is roster this year is better than U.S.
- 52:27[SPEAKER_04]: is roster last year, just in terms of
- 52:30[SPEAKER_04]: the bodies that they need, certainly in the trenches.
- 52:35[SPEAKER_04]: It's my worry is on the offense that agreed.
- 52:40[SPEAKER_04]: Does USC have a better running back?
- 52:43[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know about that.
- 52:44[SPEAKER_04]: But that's the bar is high because Woody Marx was really damn good.
- 52:47[SPEAKER_04]: Does USC have a better receiving core?
- 52:50[SPEAKER_04]: I think optimism is certainly warranted, but it still remains to be seen because if you look at the, like, if you look at the brass tax, my Kylaman and Jacobi Lane have not proven the two of them that they are capable of being
- 53:03[SPEAKER_04]: The number one guy for the whole season like star receivers.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_04]: Do they have that potential?
- 53:08[SPEAKER_04]: Absolutely.
- 53:09[SPEAKER_04]: But potential doesn't equal certainty.
- 53:13[SPEAKER_04]: So is this a better receiving core than last year?
- 53:14[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know.
- 53:16[SPEAKER_04]: It would be, but I can't say for sure.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_04]: Is it a better tight-end room?
- 53:21[SPEAKER_04]: Pretty much in tight-end room.
- 53:23[SPEAKER_01]: Is it a good draw?
- 53:24[SPEAKER_01]: Does it make you a draw?
- 53:26[SPEAKER_04]: I wish it made me drill a little bit more, but there are some guys in there.
- 53:31[SPEAKER_04]: And then the offense line, is it a better offense line?
- 53:33[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 53:34[SPEAKER_04]: I think objectively you have to say this is likely.
- 53:38[SPEAKER_04]: Last year's online had two NFL guys.
- 53:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 53:40[SPEAKER_02]: Monheim and Pragnon.
- 53:42[SPEAKER_02]: I think we think Pragnon will be like gifted, right?
- 53:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 53:46[SPEAKER_02]: Is there a guy on the offensive line right now that you think will be drafted in the future as it stands right now.
- 53:51[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 53:51[SPEAKER_04]: I think a lie I mean that this thing is I think Elijah Page could be drafted.
- 53:55[SPEAKER_04]: I think Alani Noah and Tobias Raymond Mike of Nuelos.
- 53:59[SPEAKER_04]: I think these all like could could be in will be.
- 54:02[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, that is very very very exceedingly uncertain on that offensive line.
- 54:09[SPEAKER_00]: And that, you know, the other big question, which we have last year, too, is this quarterback, the guy?
- 54:13[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, is that's quarterback the guy and then trade in my office still needs to answer that question.
- 54:17[SPEAKER_04]: So like, there are so many question marks around USC's offense, which, I mean, four years into the Lincoln Riley era, the fact that I am much more confident about the defense.
- 54:26[SPEAKER_00]: That is not crazy.
- 54:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, so that the roster question brings me into kind of how I feel about these two teams and how at least kind of judging in the room, how it feels like Jake is feeling versus how I'm feeling about USC is UCLA had to hire a coach at the last second because they're a coach who was supposed to be the next great savior of Carpe bagging some leverage in the middle of the night, which and and stuck them with this.
- 54:53[SPEAKER_00]: They, they rattle off five losses at the robot, then they start picking up wins at the end.
- 54:58[SPEAKER_00]: USC made V home run higher of all home run hires at the time it was made just like we did.
- 55:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_00]: Of Lincoln Riley no one thought that was possible.
- 55:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 55:07[SPEAKER_00]: No one even thought they could possibly hire him.
- 55:09[SPEAKER_00]: They did and.
- 55:10[SPEAKER_00]: At the end of the season last year, USC and UCLA are fighting for bull eligibility.
- 55:16[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 55:16[SPEAKER_01]: Literally had the same season except for you guys won the cross down showdown.
- 55:19[SPEAKER_00]: And then else you game.
- 55:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 55:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 55:22[SPEAKER_04]: But but that's I mean, and this is this is the issue is like with USC, it's always difficult because.
- 55:28[SPEAKER_04]: I don't I don't want to I don't want to shortchange the talent that USC has on their roster because I think that the recruiting that USC has done I there's so much potential that I really like like it's not that I doubt Michael Benuelos I when he was a recruit he looked like somebody who could really develop into something
- 55:47[SPEAKER_04]: The problem is that USC has left so many positions in the stage of if you are able to develop this player into the player that they can become, then you will have success.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_04]: But USC's track record of developing players at this point
- 56:04[SPEAKER_04]: is not strong enough for me to assume that players will be developed, where I was able to go through the, like, peak carolera, assuming that the progression on, certainly on defense and, and, you know, realistically on often as well.
- 56:20[SPEAKER_04]: So the progression forward is if you were in your two or your three, you were going to be well developed.
- 56:26[SPEAKER_04]: And at this stage from a USC perspective, it's like, I am uncertain.
- 56:31[SPEAKER_04]: And that uncertainty is what messes me up because it's not that I'm doubting the ability of these players.
- 56:39[SPEAKER_04]: It's that I'm, I can't be certain that they will be at the stage.
- 56:46[SPEAKER_04]: They need to be in order for everyone to click together to succeed.
- 56:50[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the idea that you start in your one and then get better in your two and three and all that stuff.
- 56:55[SPEAKER_02]: I think so much of that is idealistic and and that's the standard we judge coaches on, but I do think there's it's unrealistic.
- 57:05[SPEAKER_02]: In today's game when the transfer portal plays the role that it does.
- 57:09[SPEAKER_02]: Because yes, S.C.
- 57:10[SPEAKER_02]: and you're three should be better than the S.C.
- 57:13[SPEAKER_02]: and you're one with any sort of coach who is having some sort of success like that's the standard that you would do.
- 57:19[SPEAKER_02]: You would put in there by then coming off of eight and five and seven six.
- 57:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 57:23[SPEAKER_00]: But first, each year.
- 57:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 57:24[SPEAKER_02]: But the first season, he brings in an eventual, high-ish and trophy winner.
- 57:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 57:30[SPEAKER_02]: And like you go into year one with Caleb Williams, you go into year three with Miller Moss, like those are different situations.
- 57:37[SPEAKER_02]: And so like, I think it's hard to, like, yes, year one, two and three, like you need to be progressing forward.
- 57:44[SPEAKER_02]: I do think that it's different because each year has been sort of different.
- 57:48[SPEAKER_02]: Um, but the one key, the one thing that I think gives me hope for the Trojans this year is that when you look at the metrics, you look at like FBI, SC has been the identical same team all three seasons.
- 58:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 58:02[SPEAKER_02]: They've been ranked, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen in that range all three seasons.
- 58:08[SPEAKER_02]: The first year, they went a bunch of games because they win close games and they don't play organolation.
- 58:13[SPEAKER_02]: and they don't play organ Washington.
- 58:14[SPEAKER_02]: The second year, they play organ Washington, the loose to both those games, but they don't finish a bunch of games.
- 58:22[SPEAKER_02]: They nearly blow the Colorado game, but they still wouldn't, etc.
- 58:26[SPEAKER_02]: Last year, they play everybody close, but they still lose half their games, right?
- 58:32[SPEAKER_02]: But on paper, if you're not looking at the score, so many of the overall production that the teams are putting together has been ultimately at the end of the day the same.
- 58:48[SPEAKER_02]: The difference is the defense is better now and the offense is worse than it was before and I think that like the defense getting better I think should give you a lot of hope because I agree with Kenny that you like you look at the or I agree with the like raising the question of like looking at the roster I don't think this roster this year is decidedly better than last year
- 59:10[SPEAKER_02]: on paper from what we knew in year one.
- 59:13[SPEAKER_02]: But, or what we knew in going into week one last year, right?
- 59:17[SPEAKER_02]: But the, the wide receiver core.
- 59:19[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like we are, we not more confident in Macay Lemon and Jacobi Lane than we were a year ago because we've seen one of them have twelve touchdowns and one of them have a really damn good eight game run at the end of the season.
- 59:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 59:33[SPEAKER_02]: At the same time, a year ago, we were all super excited about Zachariah Brantz and Barry Alexander.
- 59:39[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and barrel ten and like, and those are guys who now we can look at and say like they didn't play in a plane, but those were guys that we were talking about if and they need to take that next step and then they can make that next step.
- 59:51[SPEAKER_04]: So the same thing with this season and have so many more ifs and if they take that next step.
- 59:55[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 59:56[SPEAKER_04]: And now I'm less.
- 59:58[SPEAKER_04]: Confident about saying that they will because I've now gone through too many times where guys haven't taken that next, but I feel more confident defensively that they will take the next step.
- 1:00:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, because we've seen Dan Lin now two years in a row completely over.
- 1:00:15[SPEAKER_01]: like, you know, hauling off.
- 1:00:18[SPEAKER_01]: And that's why I think that UCLA go back to Kenny's original question to me.
- 1:00:21[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's much more likely they go three and nine or eight and four, you know, or nine or three or three and nine or nine and three out say.
- 1:00:28[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's more likely they go that than they do six and six because they're either it's either going to break right for them and they're going to be pretty darn good or they're going to or all of this newness is going to suck and they're going to be dreadful.
- 1:00:39[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't think there's a real, I don't think there's a lot of likelihood that UCLA's
- 1:00:43[SPEAKER_01]: middling this year.
- 1:00:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're going to be pretty good or they're going to suck.
- 1:00:46[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and it's because of all those unknowns because we're like, well, if this happens, if that ends, but there's a lot of that.
- 1:00:51[SPEAKER_01]: Well, like you guys feel like that.
- 1:00:52[SPEAKER_04]: If Nico is really good, which, I mean, he has the potential to be really good.
- 1:00:57[SPEAKER_01]: That changes everything for UCLA, but the only way he's going to be really good is if the offensive line is okay, which is, again, what we're having over at USC is that I think, Jane, my other can be a really good quarterback.
- 1:01:11[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we have the quarterback whisper.
- 1:01:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, our head.
- 1:01:14[SPEAKER_04]: With a quarterback who was for all his fault, still three and one last year.
- 1:01:18[SPEAKER_00]: But we watched that Texas A and a game and it was some of the worst quarterback.
- 1:01:21[SPEAKER_04]: And then we watched and then we watched the march down the field wasn't too drives at the end of that game to just.
- 1:01:27[SPEAKER_02]: He's talking about the SRS distribution.
- 1:01:30[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, so like, yeah, I think Jayden Mayava can be the guy, but it depends on the offensive line giving him that opportunity and
- 1:01:38[SPEAKER_04]: You know that could and and I feel bad because I feel like I've spent the last week just sort of crapping on U.S.
- 1:01:45[SPEAKER_04]: He's often blind and I don't want to be doing that, but like there are reasons.
- 1:01:49[SPEAKER_04]: I really like Zach Hanson and I think he can do a hell of a job with this often's blind and like I think I think this could be a really really good unit.
- 1:01:56[SPEAKER_04]: It's just like.
- 1:01:59[SPEAKER_04]: so much hinges on that offensive line and the coin flip between this is a good offensive line.
- 1:02:05[SPEAKER_04]: This is bad offensive line.
- 1:02:05[SPEAKER_04]: This is bad offensive line determines the reality for so many teams.
- 1:02:09[SPEAKER_04]: I don't like going into a season feeling this uncertain about offensive line.
- 1:02:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but I agree.
- 1:02:17[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of questions we talked about it before.
- 1:02:18[SPEAKER_02]: This is the biggest questionable offensive line since twenty twenty one.
- 1:02:23[SPEAKER_02]: Really good that year with Clay McGuire, the only part of that team that was that was good.
- 1:02:27[SPEAKER_02]: So you're going to you hope that they can put in that performance like that this go around.
- 1:02:34[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to see before we wrap this up, I just want to throw one question.
- 1:02:37[SPEAKER_02]: Do you can anyone to you, Jake, the basically the same question.
- 1:02:42[SPEAKER_02]: What will make for a good season?
- 1:02:47[SPEAKER_02]: And what will make for a bad season?
- 1:02:49[SPEAKER_02]: The disappointing season.
- 1:02:51[SPEAKER_00]: Kenny, what's a good US season look like this year?
- 1:02:54[SPEAKER_00]: I will not do the Michael thing.
- 1:02:55[SPEAKER_00]: I will give records.
- 1:02:57[SPEAKER_00]: I will give records.
- 1:02:58[SPEAKER_00]: I will give records.
- 1:02:58[SPEAKER_00]: Do it then.
- 1:03:00[SPEAKER_00]: Um, USC needs to go at least nine and three for the season to be considered good at all.
- 1:03:05[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 1:03:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think it's as simple as that.
- 1:03:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think no one is going to be happy with an eight and four season.
- 1:03:13[SPEAKER_00]: I really don't think it matters what games are one or lost in that they're not a playoff team then.
- 1:03:17[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that means they're particularly close.
- 1:03:22[SPEAKER_00]: Nine and three.
- 1:03:24[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I to go Michael mode a little bit.
- 1:03:26[SPEAKER_00]: I agree there's a potential that that could still not feel satisfying.
- 1:03:30[SPEAKER_00]: Looking at the last few years, it is.
- 1:03:32[SPEAKER_00]: There's a potential at nine and three gets you in the playoff the same time.
- 1:03:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, nine and thirty twenty sixteen team went nine and three.
- 1:03:37[SPEAKER_00]: That's like our favorite USC team in the last.
- 1:03:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:03:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:03:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:03:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:03:42[SPEAKER_02]: So what's it?
- 1:03:43[SPEAKER_02]: What's the bad season?
- 1:03:46[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, eight and four is in some ways really bad because it's just annoying.
- 1:03:50[SPEAKER_00]: It's like the same team we've been for fifteen years.
- 1:03:55[SPEAKER_02]: So what I'm what I'm extrapolating from this is that they're extracting from the I can't speak English is there isn't necessarily a par.
- 1:04:09[SPEAKER_02]: They're the eight and four's par.
- 1:04:11[SPEAKER_02]: I guess is eight and four par because I don't do that.
- 1:04:15[SPEAKER_02]: That's going to make people feel.
- 1:04:16[SPEAKER_02]: No, it's happy, right?
- 1:04:17[SPEAKER_02]: No, eight and four will feel bad.
- 1:04:18[SPEAKER_02]: Nothing.
- 1:04:18[SPEAKER_02]: Nothing.
- 1:04:19[SPEAKER_02]: You feel happy for par, but like you don't feel bad about par.
- 1:04:22[SPEAKER_02]: Eight and four is me a lot of grousing SC fans.
- 1:04:24[SPEAKER_00]: Eight and four.
- 1:04:25[SPEAKER_00]: You could convince yourself it was better.
- 1:04:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:04:28[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe.
- 1:04:29[SPEAKER_00]: I think the way that I realistically... I wouldn't be happy though.
- 1:04:32[SPEAKER_02]: From an independent perspective, if you were a random fan in Dubuque, Iowa, and you just read Bill Steele's review, and you walked away saying, eight and four is par.
- 1:04:45[SPEAKER_02]: I think that makes sense.
- 1:04:47[SPEAKER_02]: From the USC perspective.
- 1:04:48[SPEAKER_02]: No one's happy.
- 1:04:50[SPEAKER_02]: Nobody I think would look at eight and four is par.
- 1:04:52[SPEAKER_02]: I think nine and three is par.
- 1:04:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I agree with that.
- 1:04:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, which I think does set up SC to be more likely to US.
- 1:05:00[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to this point.
- 1:05:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well, I just wanted to point it.
- 1:05:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:05:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:05:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:05:05[SPEAKER_01]: All right, Jake, you're that's what makes a good UCLA season this year.
- 1:05:09[SPEAKER_01]: I said a minute ago that I thought they're either going to be three, nine or nine and three and I was feeling a little bit out of my ass just to have like symmetry on what I'm saying.
- 1:05:15[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 1:05:15[SPEAKER_01]: But bottom line is those numbers are
- 1:05:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's a little loosey because UCLA does have, you know, another really tough big, twelve or big, tense schedule in front of them.
- 1:05:26[SPEAKER_01]: So I think for your typical UCLA fan to be happy, quote unquote, I think they have to get to seven for me, Jake Maryfield to be happy.
- 1:05:36[SPEAKER_01]: They have to get to eight.
- 1:05:38[SPEAKER_01]: I think that six and six would be our par.
- 1:05:41[SPEAKER_01]: because then they make a bowl game and it's like in a second year.
- 1:05:43[SPEAKER_01]: But I really, that would be squandering a lot, because certainly they just got Nico in and what they would they change the offense to and how dramatically better they could be versus last year.
- 1:05:53[SPEAKER_01]: But if you told me they were going to be eight and four at the end of the season, that means that they probably lost the three games that I think are kind of almost auto losses.
- 1:06:03[SPEAKER_01]: Certainly Ohio State and certainly was a Penn State or probably auto losses for the bronze.
- 1:06:08[SPEAKER_01]: And I personally throwing in
- 1:06:10[SPEAKER_01]: the Indiana game on the road as an auto loss.
- 1:06:13[SPEAKER_01]: So I kind of think they're starting at a the best they could be as ninth or three period.
- 1:06:16[SPEAKER_01]: And so if you told me that they were eight and four and they dropped one of the games that I thought would be out, but they're in the game.
- 1:06:22[SPEAKER_01]: I'd be pretty happy with that.
- 1:06:24[SPEAKER_01]: But I think most brewing fans would be, if they got to seven, they could hang their head on that and be like, hey, still progress.
- 1:06:29[SPEAKER_01]: Look at that.
- 1:06:29[SPEAKER_01]: They think around for five to seven to seven and five went to bull game, yaddy, yaddy, yaddy, yaddy, yaddy, yaddy, yaddy, yaddy, yaddy, yaddy, yaddy, yaddy, yaddy, yaddy, yaddy, yaddy, yaddy, yaddy, yaddy, yaddy, yaddy, yaddy, yaddy, yaddy, yaddy,
- 1:06:35[SPEAKER_02]: And so for you as a bad season, bad season with anything, not ball.
- 1:06:40[SPEAKER_02]: No ball.
- 1:06:40[SPEAKER_02]: Power would be ball eligible.
- 1:06:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:06:42[SPEAKER_02]: Bad season.
- 1:06:42[SPEAKER_02]: How about underbell eligible?
- 1:06:43[SPEAKER_02]: How about five and seven terrible?
- 1:06:46[SPEAKER_02]: Five and seven, but you get to go to a bowl for academic reasons.
- 1:06:48[SPEAKER_02]: That's terrible.
- 1:06:50[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely terrible.
- 1:06:51[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely terrible.
- 1:06:52[SPEAKER_01]: And our school's getting shut down up.
- 1:06:54[SPEAKER_01]: He's apparently Trump told us we owe a million dollars.
- 1:06:55[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how that's going to work.
- 1:06:57[SPEAKER_02]: So we're not even having a school next year.
- 1:06:58[SPEAKER_02]: You got to feel bad for cow.
- 1:06:59[SPEAKER_01]: Like the cow bears, you know.
- 1:07:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:07:03[SPEAKER_02]: All right, lots more to discuss.
- 1:07:04[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to discuss that over on the Westboro church to go ahead.
- 1:07:07[SPEAKER_02]: I hope you're already ten o'clock.
- 1:07:08[SPEAKER_02]: You know, tell people.
- 1:07:10[SPEAKER_02]: This is like good thing.
- 1:07:11[SPEAKER_01]: We did range right first, right?

- 1:07:26[SPEAKER_01]: Right thing.
- 1:07:26[SPEAKER_02]: Go ahead.
- 1:07:27[SPEAKER_02]: Eight one eight six four three seven two two seven second.
- 1:07:31[SPEAKER_01]: What's
- 1:07:33[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, you can stop.
- 1:07:36[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, you can stop.
- 1:07:37[SPEAKER_01]: It's not hot.
- 1:07:38[SPEAKER_01]: It's not hot.
- 1:07:38[SPEAKER_01]: It's not hot.
- 1:07:38[SPEAKER_02]: It's not hot.
- 1:07:39[SPEAKER_02]: It's not hot.
- 1:07:39[SPEAKER_02]: It's not hot.
- 1:07:40[SPEAKER_02]: It's not hot.
- 1:07:40[SPEAKER_02]: It was me mocking you.
- 1:07:41[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, we'll see you.
- 1:07:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
