- 0:56Speaker 1: us each day as Richard shares from God's work with notes, quotes,
- 0:59Speaker 1: and story along with some of his own personal experiences,
- 1:02Speaker 1: to confirm for you God's great love for us, that
- 1:05Speaker 1: his compassion for us never fails, and that He has
- 1:08Speaker 1: a great faithfulness toward us in every regard. Now, if
- 1:11Speaker 1: you miss a portion of today's broadcast or would like
- 1:13Speaker 1: to recommend it to a friend, you can hear this
- 1:16Speaker 1: program anytime online at Talknetwork Radio dot com. Well, now
- 1:21Speaker 1: here's Richard with today's reflection.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Now, there are different gifts, but the same Spirit. There
- 1:28Speaker 2: are different ministries, but the same Lord. And there are
- 1:31Speaker 2: different activities, but the same God is active in everyone
- 1:37Speaker 2: and everything. A manifestation of the Spirit is given to
- 1:42Speaker 2: each person to produce what is beneficial. First Corn Bends
- 1:48Speaker 2: twelve four through seven. We actually have been talking about
- 1:54Speaker 2: the gifts of the Holy Spirit. We have defined there
- 1:58Speaker 2: are nine gifts of the Holy Spirit. We also have
- 2:04Speaker 2: discussed some of the functioning operation of those gifts. We
- 2:10Speaker 2: know that because they are given by the Holy Spirit
- 2:14Speaker 2: as he wills. He does it for the purpose of
- 2:19Speaker 2: glorifying God, of bringing hope and additional knowledge and wisdom
- 2:29Speaker 2: to the body of Christ. He does it so that
- 2:33Speaker 2: others can come to know Jesus as Lord. He does
- 2:38Speaker 2: it so that ultimately we will walk in His power
- 2:45Speaker 2: and demonstrate that as He wills. Today we have looked
- 2:51Speaker 2: at several of those gifts. We have just mentioned the
- 2:56Speaker 2: gift of the Word of Knowledge and the gift of
- 3:00Speaker 2: the Word of wisdom. We talked about the gift of
- 3:05Speaker 2: faith that is offered by the same spirit. We have
- 3:10Speaker 2: also mentioned and talked about that there is another gifting
- 3:15Speaker 2: of healings, not just one type, but many types that
- 3:22Speaker 2: are demonstrated. There's also the gift of performing of miracles,
- 3:28Speaker 2: and there are gifts of prophecy. There's also a very
- 3:35Speaker 2: important gift in spiritual warfare, and that is referred to
- 3:41Speaker 2: as discerning of spirits. Another way of saying that is
- 3:47Speaker 2: distinguishing between spirits. What does it mean discern spirits? You know,
- 3:57Speaker 2: as we looked at the gifts of the whole spirit,
- 4:01Speaker 2: we want to be able to see how is this
- 4:05Speaker 2: gift manifested? Why is it being manifested? Why is it
- 4:11Speaker 2: so important in the body of Christ? Today? We're probably
- 4:17Speaker 2: all familiar with childlike experiences, a feeling as if someone
- 4:22Speaker 2: or something was ready to scare or harm us. Many
- 4:27Speaker 2: children have what grown ups refer to as imaginary friends.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Just because horror films and other forms of fear producing
- 4:38Speaker 2: entertainment have become more acceptable by adults, it doesn't mean
- 4:44Speaker 2: that we are not continually being influenced by spirits. What
- 4:49Speaker 2: does it mean to discern the spirits? If all we
- 4:54Speaker 2: have are feelings that may serve to warn us, then
- 4:59Speaker 2: why do we seem to be drawn to the types
- 5:01Speaker 2: of entertainment mentioned above. First, we must realize that there
- 5:08Speaker 2: are good spirits and evil spirits. The good spirits are
- 5:13Speaker 2: described throughout the Bible as angels. The evil spirits are
- 5:19Speaker 2: fallen angels, or referred to as demons. Good spirits or
- 5:26Speaker 2: angels are sent to protect us and help us. Evil
- 5:30Speaker 2: spirits or demons are sent to harm us and deceive us.
- 5:37Speaker 2: The problem we face today is trying to understand the
- 5:41Speaker 2: intentions of these spirit beings and how they're used in
- 5:47Speaker 2: our natural intellect. The spiritual encounter that we described in
- 5:54Speaker 2: an earlier series is often called warfare. The Apostle Paul
- 6:00Speaker 2: writes to the Corinthian Church that the weapons of our
- 6:04Speaker 2: warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the
- 6:09Speaker 2: pulling down of strongholds. This means that we are able
- 6:14Speaker 2: to utilize the gifts of the Holy Spirit to fight
- 6:18Speaker 2: the spiritual enemies of our soul. So the gift of
- 6:22Speaker 2: discerning of spirits is used to identify the good and
- 6:28Speaker 2: evil spirits influencing our lives. As we read in Second Corinthians,
- 6:35Speaker 2: chapter ten and verse four, and also in Ephesian six
- 6:41Speaker 2: and verse twelve, we find that the gift of discerning
- 6:48Speaker 2: of spirits is manifested in your life as you continue
- 6:55Speaker 2: to grow in Christ. We are told not to be
- 7:00Speaker 2: ignorant about matters of the spirit. In verse Corinthians twelve one,
- 7:06Speaker 2: we are admonished not to be ignorant. That means we
- 7:11Speaker 2: are to be responsive to the Holy Spirit. Remember, the
- 7:16Speaker 2: Holy Spirit gives these gifts for the Body of Christ
- 7:21Speaker 2: to utilize for the benefit of the whole body. We
- 7:26Speaker 2: are to walk in the power of the Gospel as
- 7:31Speaker 2: we live for Christ, discerning the good and evil influences
- 7:39Speaker 2: in this world. Discerning of spirits simply gives us supernatural
- 7:46Speaker 2: ability to define who is directing that influence. If it
- 7:55Speaker 2: brings glory to the Lord Jesus Christ, then you can
- 8:00Speaker 2: rest assured it is a good spirit. If it does
- 8:06Speaker 2: not bring glory to the Lord Jesus Christ, it is
- 8:12Speaker 2: not a good or angelic spirit. It is a fallen
- 8:19Speaker 2: angelic spirit, a demon. Yes, they are operating and functioning today.
- 8:30Speaker 2: They try to influence our thoughts, our words, and our deeds.
- 8:36Speaker 2: We must be mindful, supernaturally aware of their presence, and
- 8:45Speaker 2: we must be able to discern or distinguish between the
- 8:52Speaker 2: good and the evil, regardless of how it is presented.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Richard will be right back in a moment to wrap up.
- 9:02Speaker 1: But if you've just joined us, you've been listening to
- 9:04Speaker 1: Reflections on the Word with Richard K. You can hear
- 9:07Speaker 1: this message in its entirety again online as well as

- 9:18Speaker 1: Faithfulness from the America's twenty five Favorite Hymns album, unless otherwise.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Express scriptures are read from the Holman Christian Standard Bible,
- 9:28Speaker 1: which is published by Homann Bible Publishers in Nashville, Tennessee.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Additional resources used for reflections on the Word with Richard
- 9:35Speaker 1: K include Great is Thy Faithfulness by Our Daily Bread
- 9:40Speaker 1: and printed by Discovery House Publishers. Again here is Richard
- 9:44Speaker 1: to wrap up today's message.
- 9:47Speaker 2: Sometimes what is presented in a natural manner is accepted
- 9:54Speaker 2: by society and given a good slogan, but it is
- 10:01Speaker 2: not good and it is not good for us. So
- 10:07Speaker 2: we don't want to ingest poison in our lives, and
- 10:13Speaker 2: we would certainly not want to give poison to our children.
- 10:20Speaker 2: God does not want us to receive the poisonous influences
- 10:26Speaker 2: of the devil. He wants us to have victory over
- 10:32Speaker 2: those influences because He has given us the authority to
- 10:39Speaker 2: do just that. But not in our own strength. In his.
- 10:46Speaker 2: You see, our dependence on Him becomes more and more
- 10:52Speaker 2: of our surrender as He becomes more and more power
- 11:00Speaker 2: full in us. It is Christ in you, believer, that
- 11:07Speaker 2: is the hope of glory for this world. Go in
- 11:13Speaker 2: God's power and let the Holy Spirit give you the
- 11:19Speaker 2: gifts that are going to bring glory to Him. And
- 11:24Speaker 2: that is today's reflection on the Word.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Thank you, Richard, join us again tomorrow when we continue
- 11:32Speaker 1: with the next edition of Reflections on the Word with
- 11:35Speaker 1: Richard k or Richard the entire team. This is Chuck
- 11:38Speaker 1: Christie saying thanks for listening to this edition of Reflections
