Transcript
- 0:04Speaker 1: How many times we're going to hear that someone was killed,
- 0:07Speaker 1: someone was hurt, someone was maimed because a career criminal
- 0:10Speaker 1: was let out on the streets. Well, just this week,
- 0:13Speaker 1: and off duty NYPD officer was shoved onto the subway
- 0:17Speaker 1: tracks allegedly by a thug with eighteen priors. Aaron Walker
- 0:22Speaker 1: is now charged with attempted murder. He was arrested two
- 0:25Speaker 1: days after being put on supervised release for assault on
- 0:29Speaker 1: the subway. Of course, we all remember twenty three year
- 0:32Speaker 1: old Areno Zarutska, the Ukrainian refugee stabbed to death on
- 0:36Speaker 1: a commuter train. And now we're going to introduce you
- 0:40Speaker 1: to Logan Federico, a twenty two year old aspiring teacher.
- 0:45Speaker 1: She was visiting friends when a thirty year old with
- 0:47Speaker 1: a lengthy rap sheet broke in and murdered her in
- 0:51Speaker 1: cold blood.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Think about your child coming home from the night out
- 0:55Speaker 2: with their friends, laying down, going to sleep, feeling somebody
- 1:01Speaker 2: come in the room and wake them and drag her
- 1:05Speaker 2: out of bed, naked, forced on her knees with her
- 1:11Speaker 2: hands over her head, begging for her life. She was
- 1:17Speaker 2: five foot three, she weighed one hundred and fifteen pounds.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Bang dead gone. Why because Alexander DeVante Dickey, who was
- 1:34Speaker 2: arrested thirty nine god times twenty five felonies, was on
- 1:42Speaker 2: the street. You will be sick and tired of my
- 1:45Speaker 2: face and my voice until this gets fixed. I will
- 1:51Speaker 2: fight until my last breath for my daughter. Stop protecting
- 1:55Speaker 2: the people that keep taking them from us. Please, you
- 2:01Speaker 2: have the power. We put you in the power to
- 2:04Speaker 2: do what you have to do. We're asking you, we're
- 2:08Speaker 2: begging you all to stop this.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Here with me? Is that father you just heard, Stephen
- 2:18Speaker 1: Federico Steven I saw that video and I was enraged
- 2:22Speaker 1: right along with you. First of all, I'm so sorry
- 2:26Speaker 1: for the loss of your daughter. It is a heartbreak.
- 2:28Speaker 1: I have a daughter about the same age. And you
- 2:31Speaker 1: say that Logan's suspected killer, Alexander Dickey was treated with
- 2:37Speaker 1: more respect, seemed to have more rights than she did.
- 2:41Speaker 1: What did you mean by that, Well.
- 2:44Speaker 2: I mean if you take a look at his criminal rights, Tony,
- 2:48Speaker 2: He's got thirty nine crimes, twenty five felonies, and they
- 2:53Speaker 2: cared more about making sure he wasn't put in prison
- 2:57Speaker 2: than worrying about whether or not he was going to
- 3:00Speaker 2: hurt somebody. His crimes escalated every time he committed a
- 3:05Speaker 2: new one. I mean he finally graduated to the jackpot
- 3:08Speaker 2: and executed our daughter. I mean, we're still trying to
- 3:14Speaker 2: hear from the South Carolina Solicitor to see what he's
- 3:19Speaker 2: going to do, whether it or not he's going to
- 3:20Speaker 2: seek the death penalty or not, which obviously it checks
- 3:22Speaker 2: all the boxes that it does. But they're more concerned
- 3:26Speaker 2: about keeping criminals out of the prisons and out of
- 3:31Speaker 2: the institutions than they are putting them in there to
- 3:33Speaker 2: try to rehabilitate them. You can't rehabilitate some of these guys,
- 3:37Speaker 2: It's just impossible.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Steve. There was a moment during this hearing when a
- 3:42Speaker 1: Democrat Congressmoman Deborah Ross confused your daughter with another victim.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Let's watch this.
- 3:53Speaker 3: I also want to express my deepest, deepest condolences to
- 3:59Speaker 3: the family of Arena Zarutska. We should have been doing
- 4:03Speaker 3: more to prevent crime and address the lack of mental
- 4:07Speaker 3: health care long before this hearing. Particularly, Oh, I'm sorry,
- 4:16Speaker 3: I am so sorry. I am so sorry. I am
- 4:22Speaker 3: so sorry. I'm so sorry for your loss, and my
- 4:26Speaker 3: heart goes out.
- 4:26Speaker 2: To your.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Stave. You know, we heard the activists five years ago,
- 4:34Speaker 1: say know her name, know his name, and you think
- 4:39Speaker 1: this was more than just a mistake. It's a general
- 4:42Speaker 1: sense of carelessness and heartlessness that just had to have
- 4:47Speaker 1: added to the pain that I know you're already feeling
- 4:49Speaker 1: as a parent.
- 4:51Speaker 2: It was humiliating. I mean, I did my homework before
- 4:55Speaker 2: I went to the meeting. I would have known exactly
- 4:57Speaker 2: who I was talking to. The meeting was about violence
- 5:01Speaker 2: against you know, the innocent, and not to know who
- 5:06Speaker 2: Logan was. Her picture was right there. They're blondes, they're beautiful.
- 5:13Speaker 2: But not to know who you were referring to, it
- 5:16Speaker 2: was it was a little embarrassing and hurtful.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Steve, how is how are you? This is what I
- 5:23Speaker 1: thought of when I saw you in the video. How
- 5:26Speaker 1: are you as a father getting through this?
- 5:30Speaker 2: Well? You know, I'm fighting for Logan Logan. I have
- 5:34Speaker 2: to be Logan's voice because nobody else will be. I
- 5:36Speaker 2: don't have anybody fighting for I don't have anybody fighting
- 5:39Speaker 2: for her justice. Somebody has to fight for the innostant
- 5:42Speaker 2: people that are left there. You know, we've got to
- 5:45Speaker 2: make some drastic changes here in our in our system.
- 5:49Speaker 2: People like Alexander Dickey should not be on the street.
- 5:52Speaker 2: People know that there's no reasonable argument that somebody can
- 5:57Speaker 2: give me why he was on the street. They just
- 6:00Speaker 2: can't and they won't. They haven't. They have to even tried.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Okay, they stand up, They have no zero. Yeah, they
- 6:09Speaker 1: don't want to answer. But you confronted them, Steve, with
- 6:13Speaker 1: the truth and with the righteous anger of a father.
- 6:17Speaker 1: And I salute you. I actually are going to get
- 6:20Speaker 1: teared up on the segment because it's so upsetting. I'm
- 6:23Speaker 1: praying for you and your family because I know peace
- 6:26Speaker 1: is going to be hard to get, but we're really
- 6:28Speaker 1: praying for you. And thank you for doing what you're
- 6:30Speaker 1: doing and anything I can do to help you. You
- 6:32Speaker 1: know how to get in touch with me, and I
- 6:34Speaker 1: mean it, Okay, Steve.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Thank you so much. It's been a pleasure.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Thank you.
