- 0:23Speaker 1: Where offus Omega and you can catch us on our
- 0:26Speaker 1: members of Tragedy MBA album launched tour cycle.
- 0:29Speaker 2: It's November, beautiful.
- 0:32Speaker 3: Guys, thanks for joining us. Who got the whole band
- 0:33Speaker 3: with us tonight?
- 0:35Speaker 2: That's right, A rare occurrence.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Violated over here.
- 0:43Speaker 4: As you say, obviously me are off on a short
- 0:45Speaker 4: run of dates with Calmiria in November, starting in Melbourne
- 0:49Speaker 4: on the sixteenth. Then you get Sydney and Camber and
- 0:51Speaker 4: finishing Ballarette on November twenty ninth. So what sorts of
- 0:55Speaker 4: mischief you guys planning to get up to lots of food?
- 0:59Speaker 1: I have challenged area to a food competition. Hopefully we
- 1:02Speaker 1: can make that work on one of the nights. Yes,
- 1:04Speaker 1: a fight and a sam pit is one of them.
- 1:06Speaker 1: I believe what's happening.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Submission.
- 1:11Speaker 4: Absolutely, those guys are so boring compared to you. I
- 1:15Speaker 4: just interviewed him and they didn't mention a word about
- 1:17Speaker 4: any of that.
- 1:19Speaker 2: To be in their defense, they mightn't know about it.
- 1:22Speaker 2: I'll make sure they're going to play music. Yeah, they
- 1:26Speaker 2: don't know the thing.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Is, and this is why we're like so excited to
- 1:30Speaker 1: tour with them. They don't know what they're getting into
- 1:33Speaker 1: so it's like, oh, we're looking forward to it, and
- 1:35Speaker 1: I'm like, we'll see at the end of it.
- 1:37Speaker 3: And I love the guys, but they're taking a little
- 1:39Speaker 3: bit more seriously than you are.
- 1:40Speaker 1: I think, I mean, to be fair, I don't think
- 1:43Speaker 1: you can have the gothic facon and not come across seriously.
- 1:50Speaker 2: I feel like that would like drop the veil musically.
- 1:54Speaker 2: If they are yeah, you can't, you can't crack the
- 1:58Speaker 2: white face, then it says you don't do it.
- 2:01Speaker 4: Both fans are celebrating recent albums, with Yourself releasing The
- 2:05Speaker 4: Glow in July and Cameria dropping Tragedy Darn Moore in August.
- 2:10Speaker 3: Which one is a better album?
- 2:15Speaker 2: I mean, I feel like that's what the sand Fitness
- 2:18Speaker 2: for Yahy is green to stand and put like the voting.
- 2:25Speaker 5: I mean, I really like the album's super catchy, but
- 2:29Speaker 5: it's also like it I like that dark gothy thing,
- 2:33Speaker 5: which is like our album's dark and angry, and there's
- 2:37Speaker 5: his dark and creepy, and it's like it's it's like
- 2:40Speaker 5: a really good marriage.
- 2:41Speaker 1: So I don't know, Like, I feel like you could
- 2:42Speaker 1: probably make a supergroup album of the two best songs
- 2:45Speaker 1: of each album are just like right, interweave.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Them very dramatic. I'm getting ready for.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Now.
- 2:55Speaker 4: Em the Glow was labeled as your most ambitious album
- 2:58Speaker 4: yet when it came out, so he's skill thing that
- 3:00Speaker 4: after it's had time to digest.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Yes, well, sorry, this is the question.
- 3:08Speaker 1: We and I've got this most ambitious Now that it's out,
- 3:11Speaker 1: do we still feel Oh?
- 3:13Speaker 5: I definitely feel like it touches on like the most
- 3:18Speaker 5: wider range of.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Influences.
- 3:22Speaker 5: Previously, we would have had like maybe you know, three
- 3:25Speaker 5: or four bands that would have influenced and shaped out
- 3:28Speaker 5: maybe first two albums, but the later couple have just
- 3:32Speaker 5: expanded and expanded it, and we've also had some member changes
- 3:36Speaker 5: so that's brought new blood into the writing process it. Yeah,
- 3:40Speaker 5: it just definitely feels like the most ambitious and the
- 3:42Speaker 5: most adacious one yet.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Yep, it has more of a I would say, if anything,
- 3:50Speaker 1: the biggest part of it is that has so much
- 3:51Speaker 1: more of our personalities.
- 3:52Speaker 2: In it and that have just our musical influences or
- 3:54Speaker 2: like our musical styles.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Everyone definitely like put a part of themselves into the album.
- 4:00Speaker 1: So that made the writing process really fun because everyone
- 4:02Speaker 1: was not just invested musically but super emotionally as well,
- 4:05Speaker 1: and I feel like we all in a good way
- 4:08Speaker 1: lost a piece of the album. Yeah.
- 4:11Speaker 2: I think portraits helped them with us personalized contextualizing it
- 4:15Speaker 2: as well. Yeah, yeah, for sure did.
- 4:18Speaker 4: Did the fans embrace your sonic vision the way you
- 4:21Speaker 4: hope they would?
- 4:23Speaker 6: Yeah, Like I've been very surprised with the feedback of
- 4:27Speaker 6: which songs are people's favorites.
- 4:29Speaker 2: I don't think I've gotten the same answer from different people.
- 4:33Speaker 7: Ever.
- 4:33Speaker 5: I've always gotten this song and this song or song
- 4:36Speaker 5: twelve and song five or so, like all these random
- 4:39Speaker 5: just different. Like no one has ever said like, oh,
- 4:41Speaker 5: this one particular is the best song.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Twelve. The bonus Challenge twelve about thumb songs hold as well. Yeah,
- 4:49Speaker 2: we called one of the songs on twelve.
- 4:51Speaker 5: It's actually tracks its working title.
- 4:57Speaker 3: I know which bandar off I'm going to When do
- 4:59Speaker 3: you guys come to Brisbane for a drink?
- 5:03Speaker 2: He's not wrong. You get to name the next song.
- 5:05Speaker 2: That's how it works.
- 5:07Speaker 3: Thirteen.
- 5:09Speaker 2: I'm awesome.
- 5:10Speaker 1: You just we write the album until someone passes out
- 5:13Speaker 1: in drinks.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Drink let's go. That's a different way to do it.
- 5:19Speaker 4: I'm not the album, like in a nutshell, let's get
- 5:22Speaker 4: you you ken't Loyalty have a lot of death metal roots,
- 5:24Speaker 4: but you also experimented with some progressive metal. There's metalcore
- 5:27Speaker 4: doing metal splashes about the genres.
- 5:29Speaker 3: So which one was the most fun to do an
- 5:31Speaker 3: experiment with?
- 5:35Speaker 1: Matt?
- 5:35Speaker 2: Why are you planning at me?
- 5:36Speaker 8: I pointed at Leon because I think he probably bought
- 5:40Speaker 8: a lot of that influence in the progress.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Yeah, what did I do?
- 5:44Speaker 8: Leon just wrote much more on this one. Is that
- 5:48Speaker 8: fair to say? Why don't you?
- 5:49Speaker 1: In the end, it's like Leon brought the puppy dog
- 5:52Speaker 1: energy with the writing, because Leon was just like, I'm excited,
- 5:55Speaker 1: here's riffs, and we we like.
- 5:56Speaker 2: That is an exciting roff. Now we have a basis
- 5:59Speaker 2: of things.
- 5:59Speaker 1: So even and even the songs that like maybe were
- 6:02Speaker 1: more built by the rest of us, the ones that
- 6:04Speaker 1: Leon board in definitely have his signature on top of them.
- 6:08Speaker 9: Fun and genty Yeah, I metal and my metalcore and
- 6:13Speaker 9: I'm like, hey, you guys, like I love you guys,
- 6:15Speaker 9: but we need to do this. What if we wrote
- 6:18Speaker 9: a seven minute so it's not what if we wrote
- 6:22Speaker 9: a real Jounty boy?
- 6:24Speaker 10: Previously we've uh written albums under the pretense that it'd
- 6:28Speaker 10: been a melodic death metal album. We record were far
- 6:32Speaker 10: more open, So whatever the end result may be as
- 6:35Speaker 10: long as as a turkey's in package and sorry, it
- 6:38Speaker 10: doesn't matter.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:41Speaker 1: I think Portraits was a good example of that as well,
- 6:43Speaker 1: Like it was very much like, look, this is just
- 6:45Speaker 1: what we're writing. I think after Amberglow now being out
- 6:50Speaker 1: and knowing everyone's different favorite songs is probably a good
- 6:54Speaker 1: example of like what we're capable of. Because of the
- 6:57Speaker 1: fact that all the branches we did on this album
- 7:00Speaker 1: were received well, we didn't feel like we failed in
- 7:04Speaker 1: branching out in the things that we were trying. It's
- 7:06Speaker 1: it's been nice to see that it feels like it's
- 7:08Speaker 1: actually been a success and we didn't.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Just play we really like the other death ones but
- 7:11Speaker 2: the other one suck. It hasn't been like that, so
- 7:14Speaker 2: it's reassuring and.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Just I'm comforting to know that the stuff we branched
- 7:19Speaker 1: out in and tried seems to.
- 7:22Speaker 4: Yeah, given that you were a little outside the comfort
- 7:25Speaker 4: zone with that and you were experimented though a degree,
- 7:27Speaker 4: like how hard was it together.
- 7:29Speaker 3: The balance right with those genres when you were just
- 7:30Speaker 3: sort of lend them yourselves.
- 7:33Speaker 5: I feel like we just kept we kept replaying and
- 7:37Speaker 5: kept working, and we probably did the most amount of
- 7:39Speaker 5: free pro I have ever seen done on any piece
- 7:43Speaker 5: of art I've ever worked on ever, and I think
- 7:46Speaker 5: that's what really did it. We brought in all of
- 7:48Speaker 5: these different styles, influencers, everything, and as we continue to
- 7:51Speaker 5: work on a free pro and bone in on those sounds,
- 7:55Speaker 5: we kept playing them all back to back and we're like,
- 7:56Speaker 5: all right, they're all starting to gel and form together.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Yep.
- 7:59Speaker 5: So that and also continuous like group collaborative efforts.
- 8:04Speaker 2: So I'd have a say on something, but so did.
- 8:06Speaker 5: Everyone else, and everyone's shaping made it an obvious album
- 8:11Speaker 5: and anyone who's working on music out there, writing is
- 8:15Speaker 5: one thing. Pree pro is where the magic aploks.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Yeah, and big massive props to play for that, ye,
- 8:22Speaker 1: our producer in Sweden, we spent six I think six
- 8:26Speaker 1: days sick, six hour sessions or something like that.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Basically everyone lived at my house for a week. Yeah,
- 8:32Speaker 1: and we did all of the prepro like via zoom
- 8:34Speaker 1: between like six pm and midnight every night. They worked
- 8:37Speaker 1: out to I think three hundred and twelve man hours
- 8:40Speaker 1: in that week for something like.
- 8:41Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, stupid but definitely worth it. Oh yeah,
- 8:45Speaker 5: that's and that's where all that cohesive shaping took place.
- 8:49Speaker 5: So that's why the whole thing sounds cohesid with so
- 8:52Speaker 5: much going on.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Yeah, Like, given that there are so many different influences
- 8:55Speaker 1: and like genres, so to speak, within the album, without
- 8:59Speaker 1: that almost like group pottery class, it would have just
- 9:03Speaker 1: been like there's a teapot and there's like I care
- 9:07Speaker 1: instead of like mugs and the teapot, you know, like
- 9:10Speaker 1: that that part of the process is like really really Yeah.
- 9:14Speaker 2: I love the.
- 9:15Speaker 5: Moment where you were working on a particular song with
- 9:17Speaker 5: like and I came around you like Patrick Swayze.
- 9:19Speaker 2: It was beautiful. Let me just get the guitar. You'll
- 9:25Speaker 2: see the Ambaglo doco coming out.
- 9:30Speaker 3: The grated.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Oh there is an you know, it's emirated.
- 9:41Speaker 3: Back to the tool.
- 9:42Speaker 4: Like you guys recently had a show of Broken Hill
- 9:44Speaker 4: and the mad Max compound.
- 9:46Speaker 3: Tell us about that. It sounds like a lot of fun.
- 9:49Speaker 2: It was unreal. The road trip was amazing.
- 9:52Speaker 6: Yeah, the grounds were beautiful as well.
- 9:55Speaker 11: Yeah, and I was thankfully still in Texas. All the
- 10:01Speaker 11: red dust it's still Yes, I had to wash everything
- 10:05Speaker 11: that was on the merch stand at.
- 10:06Speaker 6: The end of the beginning, even the vitals. Yeah yeah,
- 10:09Speaker 6: yeah yeah. At RILLED, it was a wonderful experience. Really,
- 10:15Speaker 6: everyone just got involved and was on board. Patrons oh
- 10:19Speaker 6: knew them, they knew the assignment. Yeah yeah yeah, and
- 10:24Speaker 6: yeah it was fun. It was really brutal, but it
- 10:26Speaker 6: was really cleverative.
- 10:27Speaker 1: I think I'm a massive cross of the lead heavy
- 10:29Speaker 1: dudes because it was just for a first time. It
- 10:33Speaker 1: bent two night camping in the middle of no where.
- 10:37Speaker 1: They ran it like absolute fucking season bros. And it
- 10:41Speaker 1: was just it went so smooth, especially after like having
- 10:44Speaker 1: our flights canceled to Perth and then being like, right,
- 10:47Speaker 1: the next gig is nine hours away drive and blah
- 10:49Speaker 1: blah blah.
- 10:49Speaker 2: It was just a phenomena, so funny.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, So I look forward to more of that
- 10:56Speaker 1: festival as the years ago.
- 11:00Speaker 4: The press release has put a lot of pressure on
- 11:02Speaker 4: you guys, made by saying that both yourselves and Carmia
- 11:05Speaker 4: have whipped up and I quote incredible new live shows, incredible.
- 11:11Speaker 3: And how are you going to live up to that?
- 11:14Speaker 5: Do?
- 11:14Speaker 12: I we get masks now? I don't have enough trippans,
- 11:27Speaker 12: the binger pans.
- 11:30Speaker 1: We've completely redecked our lighting, fog.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Show uniforms, everything.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, we've We've put a lot of effort
- 11:46Speaker 1: into like we want to treat it like a stage,
- 11:48Speaker 1: like a theater show. Effectively, we want to make sure that,
- 11:51Speaker 1: you know, it's one thing to go and play the
- 11:52Speaker 1: songs and that's awesome, Like when you play them well
- 11:55Speaker 1: and it's great, everyone has a good time. It's a
- 11:57Speaker 1: different thing entirely, I think from the from the you know,
- 12:00Speaker 1: Ben's I really enjoying shows I go to. It's a
- 12:03Speaker 1: very different experience when you can have people go home
- 12:05Speaker 1: and go, wow, that was really something.
- 12:08Speaker 2: That's what we're trying to do. We're not it's not
- 12:10Speaker 2: just trying to play a gig.
- 12:11Speaker 1: It's trying to leave people with a lasting memory and
- 12:14Speaker 1: making it an event.
- 12:15Speaker 2: And not just a gig. Things have to go into
- 12:19Speaker 2: that that aren't just the music.
- 12:21Speaker 1: So a lot of our stuff is like again, all
- 12:23Speaker 1: of our lights and everything are timed to our backing
- 12:25Speaker 1: tracks and clicks and all that sort of thing.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Everything's set up a certain way.
- 12:29Speaker 1: All the you know, it's one of those things where
- 12:32Speaker 1: the show is as important as the music.
- 12:36Speaker 2: We Chris built all of our lights as well. We
- 12:40Speaker 2: don't talk about it. It takes years. Yeah, so yeah
- 12:45Speaker 2: that's basic and you programmed it.
- 12:48Speaker 3: Yeah, so hybrid of effort.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Yeah, well everyone in the band is employed. Within the band.
- 12:59Speaker 4: Just say, someone inexplicably has just come along to see
- 13:02Speaker 4: the show because they want to see car Maria and
- 13:04Speaker 4: they don't know anything about you guys. What three songs
- 13:07Speaker 4: your should they listen to to the.
- 13:11Speaker 8: I think Kings We Were Kings, the opener of the
- 13:15Speaker 8: new album. Definitely that that just is the well rounded
- 13:19Speaker 8: song and give them a bit of everything.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Campbell, Yeah, name one I like in comment? Yeah as
- 13:27Speaker 2: a fan, yeah.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I'll say, what if you listen, I
- 13:35Speaker 1: would say probably if you listen as stuffer and those
- 13:40Speaker 1: two tracks and neither of them does it for you,
- 13:42Speaker 1: love you, good luck. But it's we We we go
- 13:48Speaker 1: from bubble.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Gum happy catchy moments all the way down to just like.
- 13:54Speaker 1: So, I think the biggest compliment in comment that we
- 13:58Speaker 1: get is always like, oh wow, you guys thought have
- 14:00Speaker 1: a bit of everything, and it's like that's awesome because
- 14:03Speaker 1: it's not intentional.
- 14:04Speaker 2: We just like lots of different music and metal. So
- 14:07Speaker 2: when someone comes to our show who's like not into.
- 14:09Speaker 1: That kind of music, so to speak, and then leaves
- 14:11Speaker 1: just being like fuck, those two songs were whatever, then
- 14:14Speaker 1: I'm like, well, that's awesome.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Like we did we did our we did our job.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Like so I would say, yeah, like Kings and yeah.
- 14:24Speaker 1: I mean I feel like that's a breadth of like
- 14:26Speaker 1: the classical author of stuff, the heavy Aufia stuff, and
- 14:29Speaker 1: the like modern more county stuff.
- 14:31Speaker 2: It's a bit of everything.
- 14:33Speaker 4: Right now, before I let you go, guys, I've started
- 14:36Speaker 4: a new segment called photo Bomb, which basically means before
- 14:39Speaker 4: I speak, I troll your social media and come up
- 14:42Speaker 4: and take it as photo as I can, and then
- 14:44Speaker 4: I ask you to explain them to me.
- 14:46Speaker 2: So all of us, I.
- 14:50Speaker 4: Want to know how close to the buddy shot was
- 14:53Speaker 4: that that was?
- 14:56Speaker 2: Just as they allows.
- 15:00Speaker 5: I Yeah, I think I you know, popped a string
- 15:03Speaker 5: or something definitely not on my base and.
- 15:11Speaker 2: Yeah, something went plang and went.
- 15:16Speaker 13: Leon's known as the Faith King, and we're very tempted
- 15:19Speaker 13: to release a calendar at some point, is my mate.
- 15:28Speaker 2: I really still want to get that done.
- 15:31Speaker 4: A great idea. What else have you got for us
- 15:35Speaker 4: this prob which appears to be in that room you're
- 15:37Speaker 4: at now, but basically, like you guys a massive stages
- 15:41Speaker 4: all over the place, so you might coming back to
- 15:43Speaker 4: a small rehearsal room like that and and being confined
- 15:46Speaker 4: when you have to practice and ship.
- 15:48Speaker 2: It's this is lovely. Yeah, it feels like just hanging
- 15:52Speaker 2: out his mates. It's intimate.
- 15:55Speaker 5: It also helps that this is the backyard of and
- 15:59Speaker 5: Chriss Moms, so we also get to you know, like
- 16:03Speaker 5: hang out with the family and grab a cup of
- 16:04Speaker 5: tea and it's it's not like going to like a
- 16:07Speaker 5: rehearsal space where you've got to lug everything there every time.
- 16:10Speaker 5: It's cozy. We rock up, we turn everything up, we play,
- 16:13Speaker 5: we hang out, we drink tea, we go around. Yeah,
- 16:15Speaker 5: it's we get haircuts.
- 16:16Speaker 2: It's it's a very it's a very familiar.
- 16:21Speaker 11: Yes, it's me a lot of like you know, coming
- 16:26Speaker 11: home from school with your mates and just like jamming
- 16:28Speaker 11: in your.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Living room, jamming in your bedroom.
- 16:30Speaker 5: And that's where we all started by cutting our teeth,
- 16:33Speaker 5: by like playing in our bedrooms. It's very it has
- 16:35Speaker 5: that same like cozy feel and we still don't have
- 16:38Speaker 5: an xbox in them.
- 16:40Speaker 4: That's the only way we get about twenty xboxes sped
- 16:42Speaker 4: all around Bristol.
- 16:43Speaker 3: May you can have any of them.
- 16:44Speaker 4: You're alrighty guys who have been a pleasure catching up
- 16:51Speaker 4: with you is the tour. It's off on November sixth eighth.
- 16:53Speaker 4: Make sure let us know when you come back to
- 16:55Speaker 4: Princeville next. Guys'll be good to catch up.
- 16:57Speaker 14: And brother went forward to coming back to Bristol when
- 16:59Speaker 14: we get said, I don't why.
- 17:34Speaker 7: I signed it all I felt wound that I talk
- 17:44Speaker 7: or shi what I've done along? That's my sire set me.
- 17:54Speaker 7: I don't know me? But why don't don't you my hand?
- 17:59Speaker 7: Don't know why I want my struggle last fall. Don't
- 18:07Speaker 7: make me pay size.
- 18:09Speaker 15: It's like we'll play into my side.
- 18:12Speaker 7: Role are so down that that's.
- 18:15Speaker 15: T same place I sound, so I sound them.
- 18:19Speaker 7: A last said come my sad job my bird made up?
- 18:28Speaker 7: So so on my side are sol sho know?
- 18:35Speaker 15: That's say STI test what I spy, I say.
- 18:42Speaker 7: Rats all time? Job yours? I welcome at w class?
- 18:51Speaker 7: Why for that sold? That's wow? I got grown?
- 18:57Speaker 15: But I can tell start three people I lost last
- 19:04Speaker 15: oh boyball leave my.
- 19:05Speaker 2: Ball rad that's got started twice.
- 19:08Speaker 7: I sound so I sund sad b ball lost by side,
