- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning from inside the chicken coop.
- 0:31Just doing a little head check, making sure everybody's good
- 0:33before they go off for their day.
- 0:35And apparently our girl Wanda wants to say hello to everybody
- 0:38because she's got a lot to say going on.
- 0:41So today we're going to talk about why do most of us believe
- 0:46we fail at managing our emotions.
- 0:49So first of all, emotions are like herding cats.
- 0:51I want to be very clear about this.
- 0:53Emotions are like herding cats. They are all over the place and
- 0:57you've heard me say this before on other podcast, but you know,
- 1:00it's projected that we have between 60 to 80 thousand
- 1:03thoughts a day. Some people project up to
- 1:05100,000 thoughts per day. And of those 100,000 thoughts or
- 1:10up to 100,000 thoughts, we have 2/3 of them repeated from the
- 1:14day before. It's no accident that they're
- 1:17hard to manage. There's a lot going on.
- 1:19Not to mention that everybody in the world is buying for your
- 1:23attention, trying to get you to buy this.
- 1:25Pay attention to this. Look at me, influencers are
- 1:28everywhere. Everybody's asking for your
- 1:31family. Everybody's trying to capture a
- 1:34moment of your time to get your attention.
- 1:37And you know, here we are trying to manage ourselves and trying
- 1:42to stay calm with all of our buttons, with all of our
- 1:45beliefs, with all the things that we have adopted from other
- 1:47people. We all have these issues and
- 1:50Lord knows that it's completely complex to be able to manage
- 1:55yourself in all of this chaos, which is why it's so important
- 1:59to to one pause. You know, if any of you have
- 2:03read my book, who's Driving Your bus?
- 2:05That there is a very distinct line in there where we say you
- 2:09have to stop, reflect, choose, redirect.
- 2:13So when that stop comes up, you have to ask yourself, are you
- 2:16reflecting? Where am I right now?
- 2:18Where am I? What am I giving my attention
- 2:19to? What is the buttons that's being
- 2:21pushed? What is the emotion I'm in?
- 2:23Because if you can't figure out where you currently are, it's
- 2:26impossible to figure out where you want to go next.
- 2:29So it's just like being in the car and being lost.
- 2:31If I called one of you and I said, hey, listen, I'm trying to
- 2:33get to your house and I'm lost, you'd say, well, where are you?
- 2:36And if I said to you, I don't know, you'd say, well, I can't
- 2:39help you unless I know where you are.
- 2:42And so just like in a coaching session, when someone calls and
- 2:46they say to me, I'm so upset I have this going on or this going
- 2:49on. I the very first thing that I
- 2:50always say to them is, OK, what's the main thought going on
- 2:54in your head? What's the main focus going on
- 2:55in your head? And if I can nail down what that
- 2:58main focus is that I can help them figure their way out of it.
- 3:02So today I want to give you guys this the same pattern because
- 3:06nothing is more important than that.
- 3:07Stop and reflect and then choosing and redirecting.
- 3:10Yes, but the first part of it is so critical.
- 3:13Stop, just stop yourself from, from the, the constant chatter
- 3:17of saying, Oh, Oh my God, I'm all over the place because we, I
- 3:20can't tell you how many times I hear people say that I'm all
- 3:22over the place. And I know there are times when
- 3:25I get really excited about things.
- 3:27Perfect example, the other day I was in the garden center and I
- 3:29had this, I would call it an experience with this girl that
- 3:34worked there because she was helping me with a problem.
- 3:36And she said something that I had I heard, hadn't heard that I
- 3:39could have certain plants that I had never been able thought I
- 3:44was able to have here in the heat.
- 3:46And she said, no, as long as you do them like this and this and
- 3:49this, you can have them. And I was from that moment
- 3:52forward, my head was spinning because all these ideas were
- 3:54running. And I was excited and I was
- 3:56anxious that I wanted to get the ones that were on the floor
- 3:59before someone else got them. There was so many different
- 4:01things happening in my head all at once.
- 4:03And I had to legitimately could not get control of it.
- 4:07So I'm telling you, even when we think we know all this stuff,
- 4:10we're still going to have these things happen.
- 4:11My husband walked over and he looked at me and he's like,
- 4:13you're all over the place. I'm like, yeah, I am really.
- 4:15I am. So it, it, it is not unusual to
- 4:19have that happen. It common.
- 4:22It's really, really common. But the trick, the trick you
- 4:25have to nail down is hitting that pause button, hitting that
- 4:29stop button so that you can just get yourself centered.
- 4:32Take a deep breath. Where am I right now?
- 4:36Getting yourself the primary, where you are in your head is
- 4:41the distinction. And stop beating yourself up for
- 4:44thinking that you fail at this all the time because most of us,
- 4:48most of us are very capable of doing this.
- 4:51Unless you have been diagnosed with something that tells you
- 4:54you have a a disorder or an inability to manage this, the
- 4:59majority of us can manage this if we follow the rules.
- 5:04First of all, stop blaming yourself because the beatings
- 5:07will continue until morale improved.
- 5:09Never works ever works. Ever works doesn't get you where
- 5:13you want to go, so you have to pause or stop, whichever word
- 5:18works for you. And then you say, OK, what is my
- 5:21biggest outcome right now? What is the thing that I want
- 5:24more than anything right now? What is the thing that I need to
- 5:27focus on more than anything right now?
- 5:30And then do that. Do that one thing and then you
- 5:34can you can bring yourself back to, you know that center of
- 5:38saying, well, why do I think I fail at this all the time?
- 5:41You don't fail it at all the time.
- 5:43You may fail sometimes, we all do, I do, but it's not all the
- 5:46time. It's it's incremental, it's
- 5:48moment, it's just in the moments.
- 5:50But you can bring yourself back and you just have to allow
- 5:53yourself the space and the grace to say, yeah, OK, I had a
- 5:58hiccup, I didn't fail 'cause if you don't give up, you don't
- 6:03fail. That's the rule.
- 6:04If you don't give up, you don't fail.
- 6:06If you keep resetting, keep trying again, you are going to
- 6:10get there. You're going to get to that
- 6:12point if you keep working at it, if you keep asking better
- 6:16questions, if you keep hitting the pause button and you keep
- 6:18doing the right things, I promise you, you will get there.
- 6:21So I hope you hope you guys have a great day.
- 6:23I will see you tomorrow and work on this piece because it's
- 6:26critical to success. Have a great one.
- 6:30Bye.
