- 0:03SPEAKER_00: Hello, hello, hello.
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Slander and Slay.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: I am your co-host, Tracy Sandler, joined by my co-host, Nikki K.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Nikki, how are you?
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh, Tracy, it's all happening.
- 0:17SPEAKER_01: It's all happening.
- 0:19SPEAKER_01: It is all oh my gosh.
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: Football's back.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: We've got trade deadline bonanza.
- 0:26SPEAKER_01: And I I mean, we should just get right into it.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: Well, I will say, since we last were on last week, it feels like it almost feels like last week was six months ago because it feels like we're in a whole new season of everything.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: Because you mentioned the trade deadline, and it is it's baseball is, you know, it obviously it's such a long season.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: You have like pre-all-star break, and then the all-star break is this big, it's we're in the halfway mark, and it and it really matters, and it does, even though it's not really halfway, it's like over halfway.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: But then the trade deadline is a couple weeks later, and then it feels like that's when everybody starts paying attention.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Some of us have been going to games since March and living by and dying by each of them.
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: I am some of us, and some of us have had to be, some of us has had to be those those people's therapists through some of us have.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: And you've been you've been an excellent, excellent Dodger specific therapist.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: You guys may not know that you can find a therapist specifically to talk about your specific team.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: Well, listen, listen, when you're having concerns in late April about your favorite professional baseball team, I will be the one to hold your hand and say, sweetheart, let's let's sit down for a moment.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: This is and you guys, this is why Nikki and I get along so well.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: And this is why we're here.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: So we let's talk about the trade headline.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: We're talking baseball.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, let's let's go right into it.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Um, it the big trade is actually it's it feels funny.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Stay with me a second.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: The big, obviously, major splash trade that everyone's talking about in the beginning was Tarek Scoble to the Dodgers, and he made his pitching debut on Tuesday.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: He pitched really well.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: He only gave up two runs.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: Unfortunately, for several days, the Dodgers forgot how to score runs.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: But the thing that's funny is there's all this talk, and the Dodgers are in baseball and they're the super team and they get everything they want, and wah wah wah wah wah.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: And the Dodgers have not won a game since, which is quite amazing.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: Oh, also, did you okay?
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: So, speaking of which, like over the weekend, the Dodgers, you know, losing to the Boston Red Sox.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: And I believe the Red Sox who started off the season like in a very horrific rut.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: Since the Celtics traded away Jalen Brown, the Red Sox have been on a tear.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: So that's like a sliding doors moment in Boston.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: Interesting.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that is very interesting.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Things turned around oddly when they fired Alex Cora and the coaching staff.
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: They started to play better, which I actually don't think it's more like the correlation with the Jalen Brown trade.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: No, well, I was I was gonna get there.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: I was gonna get there.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: Um, because I went and they got better, but then they traded Jalen Brown and it was like, okay, you know what?
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: This is up to us.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: The Patriots got demolished in the Super Bowl, the Celtics have traded away Jalen Brown.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: It is up to us now to save the summer and the fall for the city of Boston, the New England area.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: So I think that is what's happening.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: And they also made a big trade to help them do that.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: Uh, and they got Adley Rushman.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: I'm always afraid I'm saying his last name wrong, but that is right.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: So he's he's the a switch shooting catcher, all-star from Baltimore, devastating to Orioles fans because he's a former number one pick and was supposed to kind of be the anchor savior of the franchise.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: Like they picked him, they called him up, and they were gonna build around him, and they were gonna be the Orioles.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: Instead, they picked him and he's played really well, and they've been the Orioles, and so now he's lost Red Sox.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: So they got they get even better.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: Uh so yeah, you're right though.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: I think it is with the trade.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: I like it.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: Well, good job, Red Sox.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: Way to go.
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: Um, what was your reaction?
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: What was your reaction to Scuba?
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: I mean, obviously, we talked about it last week, but like I and I know you you bleed blue, and if you could, if you could be in the outfield for the Dodgers, you would.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: Some might say you are.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: Some may say, I think it's better I'm not in the outfield for the Dodgers.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: If I could be in the dugout, like pumping them up, I would be doing that.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: I think if I were in the outfield, things would would go very much.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: I think I could be in the outfield.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: I think that's where I would do well.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: But so okay, so when that ball is coming, I know and they make catches that look really easy.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: When it's so high up in the air and it's coming down, do you feel like you would be in the right position to get it?
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: I feel like that would be the thing I would look forward most to getting better at.
- 4:49unknown: That's totally fair.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: Most improved player in the outfield this year is Nikki Kay.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: But I'd also get so distracted by all the tears from the people in the bleachers.
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: They're so creative and so funny.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: That's true.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: They really are.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: I think they actually single-handedly kind of ruined the Padres because there was that Padre series a couple years ago, and Fernando Tatis Jr.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: and other players were getting into with the fans, and the Padres haven't been the same since.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: So I think you are correct about that.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: But I but I was really, I was really excited.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: Um, I I did think it was gonna happen.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: I felt like the Dodgers of all the teams that were in on it are the team that A was gonna go all in to win, which is not a slogan, even though it sounds like I totally just made a slogan there, but they were gonna be the team that could do that.
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: They were also gonna be the team that had the most potential to sign him and keep him.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: However, I have to say something.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: I mean, I know that social media is not a real place and everybody is like up in arms and they're saying it was like a conspiracy because he wanted to go to LA.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: The thing is, from the Tigers perspective, it's a three-month, it's a three-month thing.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: So it's not like he had a no trade clause and there were only certain teams he could be traded to.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: So they were gonna act in their best interest because they also weren't sending him anywhere long term.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: He could stay in LA long term, but they weren't sending him anywhere long term where he was gonna have to be there long term.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: So I don't think that makes a lot of sense.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: But I was very excited, and then I I opened my Twitter and I was like, oh my god, it happened.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: Um, and I was with a friend of mine that was like, What happened?
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: I was like, Derek Scoopel's a dodger.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: And I think he thought something like that happened, but it was very, I was so excited.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: But then I had to look at Jeff Passon's page because I was like, I want to make sure I'm not falling for a parody account here.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: So I had to double check it in a number of different places before I'd fully believe it.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: Um, but I mean, I was I was very excited.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: I think the way they played the last week has not been great, but honestly, they did this last year and they're in a bad stretch.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: I mean it's like nobody.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: You'd rather I I think you'd rather have the bad stretch now than you know, early September, right?
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: Like slump now, and so you can get it out of the way.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: And then were there any other trades where you were like, oh, okay.
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: Um, nothing particularly caught my eye.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: I I think touching upon what the Red Sox did, I I I think that's a big move, especially with their momentum right now.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: And you know, I I don't think a lot can move the needle in the landscape of the league right now.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: And I think that's how a lot of fan bases are feeling for better or worse.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, this isn't a Dodgers problem, it's a system problem and it's an ownership problem.
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: So um, but the and I do have to say, like, on top of the money and the resources the Dodgers have, they do, they have established a culture of treating their players incredibly well.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: They've got the players only plane, they've got legends like Miguel Rojas in in the the clubhouse, they've got, you know, they keep Kike Hernandez around.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: And it's just a sign that they recognize like what individual personalities can and can and will do for a winning ball club.
- 8:12SPEAKER_01: And I think when you're any sort of player looking at it across the landscape, like you're like, that's a place I want to play, not just because it's in LA, not just because they've won, but because they treat their guys incredibly and their families really well.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: I was just gonna say they treat their families so well.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: And I know that people posted last year they traveled to Toronto for game six.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: It was Halloween, and you know, there were posts from the families, and I think maybe even from the Dodgers, they had trick-or-treating on the plane for the kids.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: So they didn't miss out.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: They got to Toronto and they had a Halloween party for the kids.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: Like that kind of stuff does matter.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: That makes a difference because the families are as important as the players and should be treated as such.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: So I think you're right, they have created a very good culture and it is a place that people want to go.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: So it's gonna be interesting.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: You look at the National League, it does look like the Dodgers, the Brewers.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: Though I gotta say, even though it really irritates me, the the Cubs looked really, really good the last three days.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: And they they have that, like they actually kind of remind me a little bit of the Blue Jays last year that had that kind of fun thing that maybe you didn't think they were gonna be this good and they're not good, and everybody was behind them, and they have that.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: They definitely have that.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: I think it's gonna make for a very interesting October.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: Oftentimes the difference in October is the experience and the people that have been there before, but I think we're uh in for a very exciting couple of months ahead of us, and yeah, we're finally here.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: So, Nikki, now I finally can meet a therapist at the Dodgers where it actually matters.
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: Where yeah, no, I know.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: And I think I I think I'll play, you know, we'll manage your emotions and then we'll really give you the tools, we'll establish the tools now to deal with the roller coaster of the postseason.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: Um, but we'll start working through it now.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: Okay, I appreciate that.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: I really do appreciate that.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: I mean, I said to you before we started, the Dodgers were down seven to one in today's game against the Cubs, and they almost won.
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: They lost seven to six, and it because of the way they've been playing, I almost looked at it like they won the game.
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: And that could be because Ted Lasso's back, and now I'm like channeling, I'm I'm being a goldfish kind of situation.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: I was gonna say, listen, like Dracy.
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: Unfortunately, there are no moral victories in the course of 162 game season.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: However, in the spirit of Ted Lasso, which is back today, tonight, um, we'll take we'll take a positive momentum uh sort of mindset shift from you.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: Yes, thank you.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: I appreciate you.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: I actually watched it, it went live last night at nine o'clock Pacific time.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: So I watched the first episode and it was really cute.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: I mean, it definitely, I thought it was a good episode.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: Obviously, next week you'll have watched and we can we can talk further.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: It's a good episode, it's definitely an episode that gets you to the next episode, if that makes sense.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: Like you know how there are certain ones are like, okay, we just we got to, but they did a good job and I did like it.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: And the thing with Ted Lasso, I think that's so great is in real life, people would probably roll their eyes at Ted Lasso, but they shouldn't.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: And I think in TV world, he just makes all of us happy.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: I think he has been such a beautiful reminder of the the one-liners.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: I I've been going through and seeing them all on social media, right?
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: Like because and just the little isms and minds that he has, it's it's a beautiful example of how we should live and how we should treat other people.
- 11:47SPEAKER_01: And um, I think I think that it's exemplary and aspirational and and and hopefully I do think there are coaches who carry that sort of love in today's day and age well uh as well.
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: They might show up.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they might not be us as synced, but I think of like Corey Close with the UCLA women's basketball team and everything she's built that program to be, which is like truly community driven, and and you know, her players are are doing community service two days a week every week at from the time they sign up to be.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: And she's done that before they were in the spotlighter winning, right?
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: And so I think like little things like that, or Sean McVay, who just talks about how much love there is in camp, right?
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: I think there is little signs of lasso everywhere.
- 12:37SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I I'm interested to see how this season resonates.
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: I think it will be really beautiful for women in and around sports, um, uh, especially because it's about a woman's football, football club.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: But uh yeah, I I'm I'm really excited.
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: I think it'll be nice to have lasso back on our screens.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: And I like what you said that it's a great aspirational example of how we should treat people.
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: And you know what would be great is if it wasn't aspirational, if that was just how we treat each other and people and all of the things um that would be a cool thing.
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: So I'm excited that lasso's back on our screen screens as well, and the characters were great and it it was fun.
- 13:18SPEAKER_00: So I'll be excited to talk with you more about it next week, and maybe we might have to do that.
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: Sorry, I haven't done my homework yet.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: I'm deep in another series and we can go in on that later.
- 13:26SPEAKER_01: But like I was like, yeah, and I was I started off the week a little under the weather, and I was like, No, I need no, but then I just I haven't watched TV all summer, and then for the past two days, I've been like, take me away from my my current sniffles, you know.
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: But we're back, we're back.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: Wait, what is the series that you've been so into?
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: Um, I okay, have you watched Lioness?
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: No, but I've heard it, I've watched so many other Taylor Taylor Sheridan shows, and I understand it's so good.
- 13:56SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 13:57SPEAKER_01: And and like first and foremost, it's it's just badass women, and then Taylor Sheridan immerses you so believingly, like in this alternate universe.
- 14:08SPEAKER_01: I mean, it is a it is a real world life sit like situation um that you feel like could very realistically happen, and that's what he's so good at doing is control.
- 14:19SPEAKER_01: But I mean, you've got um oh my gosh, why am I but you've got Nicole Kidman, you've got um who's uh Avatar?
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: Zoe Saldana.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: Sorry, yeah, you've got Zoe Saldana.
- 14:33SPEAKER_00: No, I've never seen Avatar.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: That's just a new slide.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: I saw the first one a long, long time ago, and I think it kind of went over my head, you know, like I was like, it's it's a little too I don't want to piss off anyone into Avatar because there's a lot of diarts out there.
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: But then then Morgan Freeman pops up and I'm like, but it's oh he's in the DNS?
- 14:51SPEAKER_01: Oh wow, yeah, yeah.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: And then the second season just dropped.
- 14:54SPEAKER_01: So I was kind of my mom and sister were like, oh, you should get in on season one now.
- 15:00SPEAKER_01: And holy smokes, did I did it live up to the hype?
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: It's like, you know, when you're tired, but you're like, I just gotta watch another episode.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, absolutely.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: I know that feeling.
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: So then put that on your watch list.
- 15:11SPEAKER_00: I will, I will put that on my watch list.
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: I feel like I watched a pretty bananas documentary.
- 15:16SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you watched a toxic love story on Netflix, but it is the banana.
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: Okay, banana loaf or banana bread, banana cake.
- 15:27SPEAKER_01: Oh, banana cake, not banana pudding.
- 15:31SPEAKER_00: It is banana cake.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: This story, I don't know if you guys are watching it or have watched it.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: Um, Nikki, you have to watch it.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: This is one of those things that you watch where you're like, I just can't even fathom how a person was like, Oh, I have an idea.
- 15:48SPEAKER_00: This is a good idea, and then has another person be like, Oh, yeah, that is a good idea.
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: I'll do it with you.
- 15:53SPEAKER_00: Like, it's just let's double down on the insanity.
- 15:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, let's double down.
- 15:57SPEAKER_00: So you have to watch it.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: It is, it is absolutely bananas.
- 16:02SPEAKER_00: So that was, I was very into that.
- 16:04SPEAKER_00: It took me a while to watch.
- 16:06SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's so funny.
- 16:07SPEAKER_00: Now I say a while, I think it had been out like two weeks, but I felt really behind and not seeing it yet.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: But it's good.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: You you should definitely watch it.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: All right, all right.
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: I mean, and then the Idaho Murders Doc.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: There's another one on Netflix.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: I got really into that rabbit hole when it was happening.
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: Do you did you ever get yeah?
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: I did, and it really scared me.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: And I read this book, which I'm not gonna remember the name of right now, but I'll come back next next week with the name of it.
- 16:31SPEAKER_00: And this woman wrote it's a fiction book, but she took a lot of the elements of what actually happened and made it the book.
- 16:40SPEAKER_00: And I read the book.
- 16:41SPEAKER_00: I love a psychological thriller, yeah.
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: Um all of that, but me too.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: The book also just scared me.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: And so I don't know, I want to watch the doc, but then yeah, I don't know.
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: It really kind of freaks.
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: I was like, I'll hold off on that being homesick alone.
- 16:57SPEAKER_00: Good idea.
- 16:58SPEAKER_01: Like, I'm yeah, so so instead of yeah, just watch to spy thriller.
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: That sounds great.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: A spy, well, a spy thriller.
- 17:05SPEAKER_00: That's fair.
- 17:05SPEAKER_00: That's that's totally fair.
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I get that.
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: That's really funny.
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: Well, you know, the best show on television once it gets started, of course, is the NFL.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: Oh, sure is.
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: Do you like that segue?
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: I did.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: I didn't I didn't watch hard knocks.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: Did you watch hard knocks?
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: You know what?
- 17:19SPEAKER_00: No, I'm just gonna say I didn't watch hard knocks.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: Am I are you are we over hard knocks?
- 17:24SPEAKER_00: I have not watched hard knocks in a plethora of years.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: As me as well.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: I'll I take the the tidbits from from whatever people re la recap of it.
- 17:35SPEAKER_01: I heard the Seahawks rings, which I did see on social media because they they recapped some of Ring Knight for the Seahawks.
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: That's nice, that's fine.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but the rings are just kind of getting out of hand.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: There, I mean, what's amazing to me is what you can do with a ring.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: How you can like couldn't get the ring to open up and have things pop out of it.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: I'm like, it's a ring, like that's amazing.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: Well, Jack in the Box winded up.
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's like amazing to me.
- 17:57SPEAKER_00: All the things you I sound like I'm 98 years old, but I'm like, oh, the things they can do with rings these days.
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: It's just like I'll be getting my bicep curls in with this one.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: I mean, they're that's the other thing, they're so heavy, yeah, that you can't just like wear them around.
- 18:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but I tried on I tried on the the Lakers bubble championship ring, the okay legit.
- 18:20SPEAKER_01: It literally took up the entire knuckle to knuckle on me, like you know, like like this just is impractical.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it is it is impractical.
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: I guess it's not something you're just supposed to, you know, wear around, but they're um they are pretty amazing.
- 18:34SPEAKER_00: Was there anything really cool in the Seahawks one that is steamed out of the ordinary?
- 18:38SPEAKER_01: The things like pop out like wings, and I think it's supposed to symbolize lumen field, and then there's a piece, there's a piece of the Super Bowl football in every one of the rings.
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: Okay, that's cool.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: That's cool.
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: That's cool.
- 18:53SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna go little impractical, little impractical, but but very, very cool.
- 19:00SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 19:00SPEAKER_00: Well, that's cool, but that is cool.
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: I do, I think that is that is that is pretty cool.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um, so now we're into NFL training camps, obviously, and that is where the Seahawks are hard knocks is is also taking place.
- 19:10SPEAKER_00: Um, let's talk a minute about their NFC West rival, the 49ers, who once again are dealing with a lot of injuries.
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: I my understanding today is that of their 90-man roster, they were down 20 players today, um, which is kind of bananas for not kind of bananas, that is bananas.
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: That is bananas.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: That's banana cake with banana pudding frosting.
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: Yes, that's fair.
- 19:37SPEAKER_00: I'll take it.
- 19:37SPEAKER_00: It you're you're right.
- 19:39SPEAKER_00: I mean, they have joint practices with the Titans next week.
- 19:42SPEAKER_00: I'm wondering if they can do it.
- 19:43SPEAKER_00: A couple years ago, they had to cancel joint practices with the Saints because they had too many injuries.
- 19:49SPEAKER_00: And I don't know if they're getting close to that.
- 19:51SPEAKER_00: I guess we'll see.
- 19:52SPEAKER_00: And then the week after they're supposed to have joint practices with the Chargers, but it I it's very strange.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: And I just don't know what is happening.
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: And I think they changed training camp around a little bit this year so they to like help to try to counteract some of these injuries.
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: So they in years past, when I was covering the team, it was like four days on, I believe, and one and then a day off.
- 20:16SPEAKER_00: And I think the way they're doing it now is two days a jog through in practice or some some I'm not saying it a hundred percent, but it's there's some combination of that, but it's not looking like it's going to make a big difference or that it's making any difference.
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: And you know how I feel about the substation theory.
- 20:36SPEAKER_00: I think it's really ridiculous, but then I'm also like, what is happening?
- 20:40SPEAKER_00: Though have you seen on Twitter there is uh an electrical substation account, and it's really, really funny.
- 20:47SPEAKER_00: I think I need to actually follow that.
- 20:49SPEAKER_01: I love I love parody accounts and like the the niche accounts that are are like, oh, it's like um Bob Stoops visor, like from college.
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: You know, like it's like something fun, yes.
- 21:05SPEAKER_00: So well, it's pretty funny.
- 21:06SPEAKER_00: So it'll like if someone tweets whatever so-and-so got injured, it'll um like quote tweet it, not my fault.
- 21:14SPEAKER_00: And there was one person that they said, like so-and-so has to leave practice, but they don't think it's serious, and then retweeted it.
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: We'll see about that.
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: Like it just ends my flag to say that whoever came over that is pretty funny.
- 21:26SPEAKER_01: Um I'm kind of concerned about Kyle Shanahan and the concussion, though.
- 21:31SPEAKER_00: No, well, I know he apparently was at practice almost the whole time.
- 21:36SPEAKER_00: Um, so he's not coaching, but he's able to be out there, which I think is a really good sign towards his progress.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: Um, so I think we'll see.
- 21:45SPEAKER_00: It's definitely concerning.
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: And I think it does also drive home how serious concussions are.
- 21:53SPEAKER_00: And I think, you know, during a season, this can happen where someone leaves a game and they're like, well, it turns out.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: Was like or people will say it's was just a concussion.
- 22:02SPEAKER_00: There's no such thing as just a concussion.
- 22:03SPEAKER_00: It's it's very, very serious.
- 22:05SPEAKER_00: And I I would like your opinion on this.
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: You people may disagree with me, but here's my opinion, my question.
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: When someone leaves a game because they think they've had a concussion and they go through the test and it's deemed they didn't, should that should if they leave a game because they think they might have a concussion, should we just take them out of the game for well?
- 22:27SPEAKER_01: So I think the verdict on something like that, and once again, not medical professionals, but it could be because of the nature of the contact, right?
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: And and maybe and maybe you're right.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: Like maybe it because you can get a a delayed concussion too, right?
- 22:45SPEAKER_01: Like you and you go through the test.
- 22:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I think um I think it's interesting because I don't know if that protocol is determined on what the contact looked like or what actually, you know, and like maybe that someone's actually fine.
- 23:01SPEAKER_01: I d I don't know.
- 23:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: I just know that I remember a lot of times in covering someone left, they went through the protocol you know during the game and they were deemed without a concussion.
- 23:12SPEAKER_00: And then by the time you get to Wednesday practice, so and so is in the concussion protocol.
- 23:16SPEAKER_00: So because I think there is the there's the delay thing.
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: Again, I'm not a medical professional.
- 23:21SPEAKER_00: I I don't know.
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: I just have always wondered is it I mean You're right, like don't even come back in.
- 23:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it to me that feels like, but I don't, you know, I'm not I'm charged and again I'm not a medical professional, so I'm not sure.
- 23:34SPEAKER_00: But that is what's going on in San Francisco.
- 23:36SPEAKER_00: I agree with you on Kyle Shanahan, except that I do think the fact that every day, and over the last few days, he's been able to be at long practices, I think all if not most of the time, does show some progress and that he's getting closer.
- 23:49SPEAKER_00: So, you know, I hope that I hope that he is.
- 23:51SPEAKER_00: There were there were questions in the beginning of training camp, which was only a couple weeks ago, less than two weeks ago, um, as to whether he'd be available for Melbourne and John Lynch.
- 24:00SPEAKER_00: So that he didn't think there were to his knowledge, there was no reason he wouldn't be available for week one.
- 24:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 24:04SPEAKER_00: But but you know, we we shall see.
- 24:07SPEAKER_00: We shall see how that goes.
- 24:09SPEAKER_00: Um, so training camp storylines, let's talk Aaron Rodgers.
- 24:14SPEAKER_00: Uh Aaron Rodgers reconciles with his family, and then he goes, What did you say when we talked about it?
- 24:21SPEAKER_00: He goes on a tear.
- 24:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, then he goes on a tear, and it you know, I think we've we've talked about this with uh Brooke uh who covers um the Steelers, yeah, yeah.
- 24:36SPEAKER_01: She's Brook Pryor.
- 24:37SPEAKER_01: So she's yeah, Brooke Pryor, and she's been with uh a beat reporter with Rogers day in, day out.
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: So she has said that we, you know, take what we get from the headlines that come in covering Rogers, but it's like back to his normal ways of just saying things to like generate a reaction, you know.
- 24:57SPEAKER_01: And so I mean, it was really heartwarming to see the images of him back with his family, and then he's you know, he's on McAfee talking about like he's like, I'm not gonna tell you what we reconcile, but we reconciled.
- 25:08SPEAKER_01: It's like we don't need to know, but we're celebrating, we're celebrating your reunion.
- 25:14SPEAKER_01: Um, and then yeah, it's like I don't know.
- 25:17SPEAKER_00: And I think everyone's entitled to their opinion, and he has a right and he has a platform.
- 25:21SPEAKER_00: I think the thing was he just couldn't he just like can't stop.
- 25:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and exactly the the way that he says things, it's just and it's just it's just very Aaron Rodgers, but it begs the question, but uh well, it doesn't necessarily beg the question, but I'm begging the question how do we think the Steelers are gonna be this year?
- 25:42SPEAKER_00: I I you know new coach, which I don't know how that's gonna work either.
- 25:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I just don't know what we've seen from Aaron Rodgers to give us the indication that the offense will evolve a step in the right direction.
- 26:01SPEAKER_01: But then again, that was very nicely said, by the way.
- 26:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but then again, we're kind of in a defensive shift in the NFL right now, wouldn't you say?
- 26:10SPEAKER_00: Oh, absolutely, yeah, and they are a very good defensive team.
- 26:13SPEAKER_00: I'm I am not a Mike McCarthy believer, like I don't think he's yeah, incredible coach, uh, but say it, Trace, say it.
- 26:24SPEAKER_00: Just I don't I don't think he's a big coach.
- 26:26SPEAKER_00: I just don't, but he and Rogers did win a Super Bowl together, and Aaron Rodgers likes him, so we'll see.
- 26:32SPEAKER_00: It will we'll see.
- 26:33SPEAKER_00: It'll be kind of an interesting team.
- 26:34SPEAKER_00: The Pittsburgh Steelers feel to me the last several years, they've been that team because they're the Pittsburgh Steelers, they're going to every season being like they're gonna be good, and you think they're good, but they're they're they're they haven't been that good, right?
- 26:46SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 26:47SPEAKER_01: I know those those programs.
- 26:48SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm trying to think of another one that comes to mind that you're like, Well, yeah, that's that's that ball club.
- 26:54SPEAKER_01: So they're obviously gonna be in the conversation, but they just fall short.
- 26:59SPEAKER_00: That was the Cowboys for a while, but now it's not.
- 27:02SPEAKER_01: No, now it is very not the Cowboys, but there were a lot of years there where that was the Cowboys, but now I am such an anti-Texas' back person, whether it's the Longhorns, you know what out, you know what team?
- 27:15SPEAKER_01: This makes me so happy to say, is always just seems to let you down, but they're even more so than the Steelers.
- 27:21SPEAKER_01: Like USC football.
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: They're always that is true.
- 27:28SPEAKER_01: Everybody's like, wow, USC is one of the best teams in the country, USC could win it all, USC could win it all.
- 27:33SPEAKER_01: And then it's like week nine or ten, they just they can't help themselves.
- 27:39SPEAKER_00: And at the UCLA, the UCLA alumni, I know that there is no bias there whatsoever.
- 27:46SPEAKER_00: And I get that, but you're not wrong, by the way.
- 27:49SPEAKER_00: You're definitely not wrong about that.
- 27:51SPEAKER_00: That does seem to happen.
- 27:53SPEAKER_01: It was like yeah, like you said, five weeks in the cowboys looking good.
- 27:58SPEAKER_01: The cowboys could this could be their year, this could be Dak's year.
- 28:01SPEAKER_01: And guess what?
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: It's not.
- 28:03SPEAKER_00: No, it's not.
- 28:04SPEAKER_00: I and I think at this point, no one even thinks it is.
- 28:07SPEAKER_00: Like even most cowboy fans I know will say to me, this is our year, is our motto, but not something I actually believe.
- 28:16SPEAKER_00: So I think that that is uh that is really true.
- 28:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's very true.
- 28:21SPEAKER_00: Uh, big well, we talked a little bit about this last week, I think, but the Vikings quarterback competition.
- 28:27SPEAKER_00: Okay, can I say something?
- 28:29SPEAKER_00: I just say that as if you're gonna be like, no, you can't.
- 28:32SPEAKER_00: Um no, Tracy.
- 28:33SPEAKER_00: No, you can't.
- 28:34SPEAKER_00: I saw uh yesterday, I think it was on Tuesday at practice, someone yelled something not nice to JJ McCarthy to the point, yelled it loud enough, and whatever it was was not nice that JJ McCarthy, Kevin O'Connell, and Justin Jefferson all turned around and looked at the guy.
- 28:51SPEAKER_00: And Justin Jefferson and Kevin O'Connell just looked angry and security talked to him.
- 28:56SPEAKER_00: I don't know why he wasn't kicked out, but security like came and talked to the guy.
- 29:00SPEAKER_00: But can me what what goes through your head that you're like, you know what I'm gonna do?
- 29:04SPEAKER_00: I'm going to a training camp practice.
- 29:05SPEAKER_00: And I know I have a JJ bias, so but this could be about anybody.
- 29:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm gonna go to a training camp practice and I'm gonna yell mean things to the players.
- 29:13SPEAKER_00: Because here's my thing if you're a fan that goes to a training camp practice, you are a fan, you are a real, real fan of your team.
- 29:21SPEAKER_00: So who does that and why do we need to do it?
- 29:24SPEAKER_00: This is where we need more Ted Lasso.
- 29:25SPEAKER_00: What is the point of doing that?
- 29:26SPEAKER_00: What do you get out of that?
- 29:28SPEAKER_01: I did have this thought, like to your point, like I've been at Rams Camp and there's like a line of cars out seeping out of their practice campus facility at like 11 a.m.
- 29:41SPEAKER_01: on a Monday morning.
- 29:43SPEAKER_01: And I was like, I wish I loved something as much as this to wait in the sweltering heat in my car two hours before training camp begins, before a training camp practice begins, so I can watch my favorite football practice.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: Obviously, I do love a lot of things that much, and I would do that, and I don't disrespect the fan.
- 30:02SPEAKER_01: But then to do that, to go into a camp and have the audacity to be mean, yeah.
- 30:09SPEAKER_00: No, what is the point?
- 30:10SPEAKER_00: And I I don't like it at games, but you can say, like, well, it's a game, that's part of it.
- 30:15SPEAKER_00: Like, you know, people say things.
- 30:16SPEAKER_00: I don't, I don't like it either.
- 30:17SPEAKER_00: I don't, I I'm this is just it's just not my personality to be at a game and be like, you suck.
- 30:23SPEAKER_00: But um, unless it's the cheating Astros, in which case I don't yell you suck, but I do boo.
- 30:27SPEAKER_00: I'm not a booer, but when the cheating Astros come, or I see any one of the cheating Astros in any ballpark in the country, I boo them.
- 30:36SPEAKER_00: I'm not proud of it, but I kind of also am.
- 30:38SPEAKER_00: All right, let's get back to Vikings.
- 30:40SPEAKER_00: But the Vikings, right?
- 30:41SPEAKER_00: Sorry.
- 30:41SPEAKER_00: So the Vikings, the Vikings.
- 30:42SPEAKER_00: So they've but they have this quarterback competition going on right now with Kyler Murray and JJ McCarthy.
- 30:47SPEAKER_00: It's funny because depending on what you read and what your algorithm says, Kyler Murray is QB1 and it's not even close.
- 30:55SPEAKER_00: JJ McCarthy or JJ McCarthy is really gaining on him.
- 30:59SPEAKER_00: Or it is kind of funny because but when I read the actual beat reporters, it seems that right now it's very open.
- 31:07SPEAKER_00: It's very open, it's relatively evening.
- 31:09SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'm of even I'm of the opinion that Kyler Murray is gonna win this.
- 31:12SPEAKER_00: Like, yeah, it just how long does it last?
- 31:15SPEAKER_00: Does it work?
- 31:16SPEAKER_00: He's he also has had injury issues.
- 31:18SPEAKER_00: That's the thing that's interesting too in both of them situation because they both have had a lot of injury issues.
- 31:24SPEAKER_00: Um, and you know, that could end up being very problematic, but it is kind of funny, which also just shows you how social media works and your algorithm is is what you see.
- 31:33SPEAKER_00: But it does feel like at the moment, now pads just came on, and uh it does seem like at the moment it is pretty open, but it feels like that's kind of the story of training camp right now, like of all the training camps in terms of like really big stories.
- 31:49SPEAKER_00: That seems to be the one that most everyone has their eye on, whether you care about the Vikings or not, whether you are a JJ enthusiast slash apologist or not, but it does seem to be the story that everyone's kind of focused on.
- 32:01SPEAKER_01: I I agree with you.
- 32:02SPEAKER_01: That's like the biggest, like I think, question mark of when you look across all all the all the teams and the undecided.
- 32:11SPEAKER_01: So I think that's one thing I think.
- 32:14SPEAKER_01: Um, oh, and since we last talked, Baker Mayfield kind of retracked some of his spicy.
- 32:20SPEAKER_01: Oh, did he?
- 32:21SPEAKER_00: I didn't even see that.
- 32:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think he like, I don't know if it was backtracked or like kind of softened it a little bit, you know, clarified.
- 32:28SPEAKER_01: Um, so it wasn't so incendiary, I guess.
- 32:31SPEAKER_01: That's probably a little PR smoothing by him or his team.
- 32:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:35SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm trying to think of other questions.
- 32:38SPEAKER_00: Other big there's the Rams, it probably won't happen during training camp, but there's this Aaron Donald question as to whether or not he comes out.
- 32:46SPEAKER_00: I mean, it feels to me like he's 95% coming back.
- 32:49SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 32:49SPEAKER_01: Everything around the energy of the team, especially like with I mean, I just think with something as as big as that, if it wasn't a possibility, there wouldn't be so much.
- 33:02SPEAKER_01: We're being breadcrumbed by the Rams.
- 33:04SPEAKER_01: Like I think, you know, Sean McVeigh says arrows pointing up.
- 33:09SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, we we're still getting videos of Aaron working out in the Rams practice facility.
- 33:14SPEAKER_01: Uh I know, and I don't feel this is anything I can't say, but like I've been working on a story with him and his team about all the great work him and his wife do for the community.
- 33:26SPEAKER_01: And I was told, like, hey, let's get a pause on this until he determines whether or not he's playing.
- 33:32SPEAKER_01: And I just think, you know, something like that, it's if he's not playing, he's doing every interview he can.
- 33:39SPEAKER_01: I and I don't blame him for for being like, yo, I don't need to participate in training camp.
- 33:46SPEAKER_00: No, he does not need to participate in training camp.
- 33:49SPEAKER_00: I think that there does, for certain people, there does come a point in their career like where it's okay if they are not in training camp, as long as he's staying in shape and and all of that.
- 33:59SPEAKER_00: But I would be shocked.
- 34:00SPEAKER_00: The question that I have, and we won't know this for a while, but will it be week one?
- 34:06SPEAKER_00: Will his first game be in Australia or will it be later?
- 34:10SPEAKER_00: That's kind of what I think is curious.
- 34:12SPEAKER_00: I'm kind of leaning towards the former because there's been so much buzz around it in the last, like in this, because I feel like if if it wasn't to your point, we wouldn't be getting breadcrumb.
- 34:23SPEAKER_00: There wouldn't be all these interviews, it would just be on pause a little bit.
- 34:26SPEAKER_00: But um, I don't know why I think it'd be cool if it's the first game back.
- 34:30SPEAKER_00: No, it seems to have really caught momentum over like the past week.
- 34:34SPEAKER_00: It definitely has.
- 34:35SPEAKER_00: So it came out actually.
- 34:36SPEAKER_00: Speaking of Australia, this is I the Rams have it's so funny how different the Rams and Fournair's philosophies are on these things that the Rams are gonna arrive in Melbourne the day before the game and they leave right after.
- 34:46SPEAKER_00: And the Niners will arrive a week before to adjust to the time change.
- 34:52SPEAKER_00: And I know, like with Mexico City, the Niners go to Colorado Springs for a week before to adjust to the altitude.
- 34:57SPEAKER_00: And it's funny how different teams have such different philosophies on it.
- 35:02SPEAKER_00: But this I know is how the Rams do it, they've done it for their European teams and all that, but that is a I mean, that's a long very quick in and out.
- 35:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it is.
- 35:10SPEAKER_00: That's a long trip to arrive the day before, but it's pretty crazy.
- 35:15SPEAKER_00: That game is just over a month away, and we're talking on Wednesday, Thursday night.
- 35:21SPEAKER_00: We have a football game, a preseason football game.
- 35:22SPEAKER_00: The Hall of Fame game is Thursday.
- 35:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 35:24SPEAKER_00: It is it is here, it's here, we're here, and everybody else's preseason starts next week.
- 35:31SPEAKER_00: But we are uh we are fully in it.
- 35:33SPEAKER_00: But I was thinking about that with the Niners going to Melbourne a week before.
- 35:36SPEAKER_00: I'm like, that's like in three weeks, yeah.
- 35:39SPEAKER_00: Three, three and a half weeks off they go um to Melbourne.
- 35:42SPEAKER_00: So it's uh it'll be really interesting.
- 35:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it it'll uh it it's shocking, it's like but it but so exciting.
- 35:50SPEAKER_00: Yes, it is.
- 35:50SPEAKER_00: It's shocking, but so exciting.
- 35:52SPEAKER_00: And we've talked about it before the L NFL is a year-round show, and it is definitely the best reality show on television.
- 36:01SPEAKER_00: So um it's it's interesting to me that there aren't more sometimes.
- 36:04SPEAKER_00: I feel like training camp, they're like a number of stories, but this one seems in some ways relatively quiet, though I do think people are gonna be paying very close attention to the 49ers and injuries and station things.
- 36:15SPEAKER_01: And okay, and like we were so happy for Justin Herbert and Madison Beer.
- 36:21SPEAKER_01: I just saw a video of him like hanging out with her at training camp.
- 36:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think they were like sitting on the grass together.
- 36:28SPEAKER_01: I just gotta say, he needs he's at the point where he needs to have a successful postseason.
- 36:35SPEAKER_00: I would agree with that.
- 36:36SPEAKER_00: I will say, and there's I know there's been a lot of talk of him talking to her on the grass and all of that.
- 36:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it is not unusual.
- 36:44SPEAKER_00: In fact, it's quite quite common as usual.
- 36:46SPEAKER_00: You see all the time players, family, significant others come to training camp practice.
- 36:50SPEAKER_00: And for they do hang out of practice because during training camp, that's basically like the only time they're going to see each other for or they're not even much.
- 36:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, no, I know you're I know you're I'm not I'm not talking about you.
- 37:00SPEAKER_00: I'm just saying generally there's been all this like conversation on social media about it, but I agree with you.
- 37:05SPEAKER_00: He does need a good I I I'm gonna be honest, you and people get upset.
- 37:08SPEAKER_00: I don't get it.
- 37:09SPEAKER_00: Like he I don't get it.
- 37:11SPEAKER_00: I don't get the Justin Herbert thing.
- 37:12SPEAKER_00: Every time I watch him in a postseason game, he throws like six interceptions.
- 37:16SPEAKER_00: So I don't understand what the buzz is, I don't understand why he loves him so much, I don't get it at all.
- 37:23SPEAKER_00: So I the Herbert heads, the Herbert heads, the Herbert heads and people get so they go crazy, they get so upset about it, and I'm like, but you can give me every excuse in the world, but at the end of the day, he throws many interceptions in every playoff game.
- 37:39SPEAKER_00: In fact, a couple of years ago, um, I think it was Harbaugh's first season, I said to a friend of mine who went to Michigan, it's like, I feel like Justin Herbert's Harbaugh's favorite quarterback now over JJ, and I don't like it.
- 37:50SPEAKER_00: And then during that game, I think after his fifth interception, my friend texted me and said, JJ is still just harvot's favorite quarterback.
- 37:58SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean yeah, to Harbaugh's credit, he like he is the most effusive.
- 38:04SPEAKER_01: It's like a proud dad talking about and that's I you that's how you gotta be.
- 38:08SPEAKER_01: And like, and to Herbert's credit, his offensive line was like decimated last season, but still, I mean, at what point are we like I don't get it?
- 38:20SPEAKER_00: It yeah, I don't get it.
- 38:22SPEAKER_00: I'm just gonna I'm saying it.
- 38:23SPEAKER_00: I said it.
- 38:24SPEAKER_00: I would I think he has to have a successful postseason, and honestly, if he doesn't, I mean to me it's like the charters have to start looking elsewhere.
- 38:33SPEAKER_00: Now, granted, and I really like Dak Prescott Prescott, but the Cowboys have bucked that trend.
- 38:38SPEAKER_00: So I I don't know, but I just don't understand it at all.
- 38:43SPEAKER_00: But I agree with you a hundred percent.
- 38:45SPEAKER_00: And I think the thing is you're right, he has his adjustment offensive line, but don't you think in the world of the NFL, we as fans, and and and I know that this is part of being a fan, we pick and choose what excuses we'll accept for people and what we won't.
- 39:01SPEAKER_01: Because I think you know and and it's so interesting.
- 39:04SPEAKER_01: It's like he gets the grace on that one.
- 39:07SPEAKER_01: And then this the year that Patrick Mahomes is down, and like he could have, you know, a depleted run game or what whatever it may be over there in Kansas City, but then it's all of a sudden like, oh, he's he's on the decline of his career.
- 39:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's it's ridiculous.
- 39:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like we can't people we do that so much, but then that's an a good Patrick Mahomes is a good example because you know, we I think their last Super Bowl win, Kansas City did have a very good defense, so yeah, that but offensively, it was Patrick Mahomes.
- 39:39SPEAKER_00: I mean, he he really is the reason they won that Super Bowl, and people don't like the decimated offensive line for that.
- 39:47SPEAKER_00: You know, it's just kind of funny where we pick and choose who we'll make excuses for and why we make the excuses for him.
- 39:53SPEAKER_00: But I would say we're saying it here in early August, Justin Herbert, get it together in the playoffs, like it's enough.
- 40:01SPEAKER_01: Let's have a weekly segment where we do like who who we're making excuses for this week.
- 40:06SPEAKER_01: Oh, I love that.
- 40:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, mine might be JJ McCarthy every week, but I every week, let me tell you who it's not gonna be Kyle Tucker, but that's a different conversation for another time.
- 40:15SPEAKER_00: Okay, um, but that I think that we should do that.
- 40:17SPEAKER_00: That sounds really fun.
- 40:18SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 40:19SPEAKER_00: Who are we making excuses for this week?
- 40:21SPEAKER_00: That's a great parental excuse note.
- 40:24SPEAKER_00: I love that, and it can be any sport, right?
- 40:26SPEAKER_00: Or does it have to are we sticking with an NFL?
- 40:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, let's do it any sport.
- 40:30SPEAKER_00: Okay, I love this.
- 40:31SPEAKER_00: This is going to be really fun.
- 40:32SPEAKER_00: You guys feel free to send us suggestions on social media as to who you think we should be making excuses for for the week.
- 40:38SPEAKER_00: Um, I love that.
- 40:39SPEAKER_00: Okay, great.
- 40:39SPEAKER_00: A news, and that's how a new segment was born on Slander.
- 40:42SPEAKER_00: Done.
- 40:43SPEAKER_00: Done.
- 40:43SPEAKER_00: Um, but before we go and prepare for next week's new segment, we've got to do K-pop, which is one of my favorites.
- 40:50SPEAKER_01: Oh, yes.
- 40:50SPEAKER_01: Okay, no, this one's a little bit different than the direction we normally go, which is typically we like go deep on an internet trend or something that's been all over our feeds.
- 41:01SPEAKER_01: Um, but I just want to give a shout out because over the weekend we got the first game of the Women's Pro Baseball League, which is the first time the WPBL has been back in action or uh uh a woman's professional baseball game has been played in 70 years.
- 41:20SPEAKER_01: And so isn't that so fun?
- 41:23SPEAKER_01: So there's you're gonna see the best woman in baseball uh represent Boston, LA, New York, San Francisco.
- 41:30SPEAKER_01: It's a season that spans about six weeks from August 1st to September 6th.
- 41:34SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 41:34SPEAKER_01: And um, it's gonna take place at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, Illinois, which is deeply connected to the history of women's baseball.
- 41:44SPEAKER_01: And the uh debut game that we had over the weekend was a thrilling 10-8 win by the Los Angeles Queens over the New York Heights.
- 41:53SPEAKER_00: So Okay, first of all, the names of these teams are spectacular.
- 41:57SPEAKER_01: Right, right.
- 41:58SPEAKER_01: And um, the first pitch was thrown out by 99-year-old baseball legend Maybelle Blair.
- 42:04SPEAKER_01: Um, and she played in the AAGPBL, uh, which, you know, was back probably in the 1950s, I believe.
- 42:11SPEAKER_01: So um just a fun little thing to kind of key into, and maybe we can have some more um women's pro baseball league stories over the next six weeks.
- 42:20SPEAKER_00: I hope that we do.
- 42:21SPEAKER_00: I think uh to date, this is my favorite K-pop segment that we've had.
- 42:24SPEAKER_01: Yay! Go girls, go go girls.
- 42:28SPEAKER_00: We love it.
- 42:28SPEAKER_00: Everybody watches women's sports.
- 42:30SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 42:31SPEAKER_00: There we go.
- 42:32SPEAKER_00: Ted Lasso, Jason Sudekis himself says it.
- 42:34SPEAKER_00: You guys, this has been a really fun one.
- 42:37SPEAKER_00: Uh, don't forget to subscribe, rate, review, all of the things.
- 42:41SPEAKER_00: I'm Tracy Sandler, and I'm Nikki Kay.
- 42:44SPEAKER_00: We love you.
- 42:46SPEAKER_00: We will talk to you next week on Slander and Slay on Buzzer.
- 42:50SPEAKER_01: Bye.
