- 0:06Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to No Dribble, the podcast where we
- 0:09Speaker 1: talk about netball, but we talk about so much more.
- 0:12Speaker 1: And in a week where a massive storm has developed
- 0:15Speaker 1: across the ditch, there's quite a lot of netball to
- 0:18Speaker 1: talk about, not just in New Zealand but in Australia.
- 0:20Speaker 1: So we've been looking forward to getting together. I'm Taralyn Swindel, I'm.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Kath Cox, and I'm the zealous and i am a
- 0:27Speaker 2: very praud coach.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Yes, yes, that's the most important netball that we must
- 0:32Speaker 3: speak about to start.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Tell us every tell us Yeah.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Oh well, firstly, who'd be a coach? It's very stressful
- 0:39Speaker 2: and very nerve wracking.
- 0:41Speaker 1: I suspect there's a few people asking that question of
- 0:44Speaker 1: themselves at the moment, Like I love coaching through the year.
- 0:48Speaker 4: And then just on Saturday, it was so hard, like
- 0:51Speaker 4: so stressful, and we had only lost one game during
- 0:55Speaker 4: the year, and the only game we lost was a
- 0:57Speaker 4: day where we had a number of players away because
- 0:59Speaker 4: I've got some kids who are rep basketball players and
- 1:01Speaker 4: it was pouring rain and I just said to the girls,
- 1:03Speaker 4: or they just don'tt yourselves taken easy, I don't care what.
- 1:06Speaker 2: So essentially we want to like games across the season.
- 1:09Speaker 2: But the team that we played in the Grand final
- 1:12Speaker 2: are an awesome team who beats us in the semi
- 1:14Speaker 2: last year, and I just knew that even though we'd
- 1:17Speaker 2: beaten them every game this year, they had another gear
- 1:19Speaker 2: with them and we're going to see it on Saturday.
- 1:22Speaker 5: So I don't know. I was just felt so nervous
- 1:25Speaker 5: and so sick, and.
- 1:25Speaker 2: I'm like, oh my god, Like I felt exactly how
- 1:29Speaker 2: I used to feel before a Super Netball grandpont for
- 1:32Speaker 2: a World Cup.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Oh my god.
- 1:35Speaker 2: And it wasn't for me, like, you know, I don't
- 1:38Speaker 2: want to be a professional coach, but I just wanted
- 1:41Speaker 2: the girls to feel how good it is to go
- 1:43Speaker 2: through a season and then shut off with the win.
- 1:45Speaker 1: So now your girls have been in grand finals before
- 1:48Speaker 1: that they've lost, haven't they.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Yes, we lost the Grand final, we lost the semi
- 1:52Speaker 2: final last year. And we've been together since Ry two
- 1:56Speaker 2: and then our in year eight, so and we've had
- 1:59Speaker 2: a couple of changes, but essentially the ten who are
- 2:03Speaker 2: in my team, eight of them started with us when
- 2:04Speaker 2: they're in U two, right, so they were babies.
- 2:06Speaker 5: So like every year.
- 2:08Speaker 2: You know you're going to lose one or two, and
- 2:10Speaker 2: you might get one or two, but I just wanted
- 2:12Speaker 2: this group to just really feel it. Anyway, we got
- 2:15Speaker 2: to the Grand Final on Saturday and beautiful day up
- 2:18Speaker 2: here in ballt Up and we've had a really wet winter,
- 2:21Speaker 2: so I had made them training the rain a few
- 2:23Speaker 2: weeks ago, so I was like, it might rain on
- 2:24Speaker 2: the Grand Final days. Of course Grand Fri Day's like
- 2:28Speaker 2: twenty five degrees and beautiful, so what would I know. Anyway,
- 2:31Speaker 2: we were up by one at quarter time, well down
- 2:35Speaker 2: by one at half time, well down by three at
- 2:37Speaker 2: three quarter time, and I just said to them at
- 2:40Speaker 2: three quarter time, like grand finals are supposed to be hard.
- 2:43Speaker 2: That's not a bit bewildered, Like we haven't been down
- 2:46Speaker 2: at all this year. And I was like, Grand finals
- 2:48Speaker 2: are supposed to be hard. This is why we do it.
- 2:50Speaker 2: So you know, three goals is nothing. We just need
- 2:53Speaker 2: a couple of turnovers and off we go. And we
- 2:54Speaker 2: got a couple of turnovers really quick, and out of
- 2:57Speaker 2: the blocks. We just went on a five goal sort
- 2:59Speaker 2: of spree and then it was just golf for goal.
- 3:02Speaker 2: It was so stressful though.
- 3:04Speaker 3: I saw Brian's message on Facebook to you and you're
- 3:07Speaker 3: a reply who would ever coach, Like, imagine if your
- 3:11Speaker 3: job was on the line every week.
- 3:16Speaker 5: Oh and I should have had a heart rate monitor on.
- 3:20Speaker 5: My heart rate was going ballistic.
- 3:22Speaker 2: The two little girls on the site not little girls,
- 3:24Speaker 2: and two young women on the sideline in the last quarter,
- 3:27Speaker 2: I think they I was hugging them, but I think
- 3:29Speaker 2: they bathed ended up with like fingernail marks and dish.
- 3:36Speaker 5: It was fabulous one. It was very exciting party.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Yes, so we just went to the local pub, which
- 3:44Speaker 2: was great with all the parents. So I'm really fortunate
- 3:46Speaker 2: we've got a great group of parents who you know,
- 3:48Speaker 2: through the course of this year, we had a couple
- 3:50Speaker 2: of moments where a couple of girls turned up to
- 3:53Speaker 2: sessions and weren't in the right frame of mind, and
- 3:56Speaker 2: I went to their parents and said, listen, I'm not
- 3:58Speaker 2: going to play your girls for the first half this
- 4:01Speaker 2: week because I want them to understand it if you
- 4:02Speaker 2: don't turn up in the right frame of mind to training,
- 4:05Speaker 2: you actually can't play. And just a couple of times
- 4:09Speaker 2: and the parents every time we're just like absolutely back you,
- 4:13Speaker 2: absolutely your call, one hundred percent. So I'm just really
- 4:16Speaker 2: fortunate that I've got a great group of parents, and
- 4:19Speaker 2: you know, we know that there's plenty of statistics and
- 4:21Speaker 2: studies out there to tell you that one of the
- 4:23Speaker 2: reasons why kids drop out a sport is because they
- 4:26Speaker 2: get embarrassed about their parents on the sideline, or they
- 4:28Speaker 2: don't feel like they feel like their parents are involved
- 4:32Speaker 2: too much. And I've at this great group of parents
- 4:34Speaker 2: who let me coach, they let me do what I
- 4:37Speaker 2: need to do, and they just support and cheer their girls.
- 4:41Speaker 2: And I think that's probably why we really don't have
- 4:44Speaker 2: much turnover. We have a group of kids who want
- 4:46Speaker 2: to play together and want to be together. So I
- 4:48Speaker 2: said to the girls afterwards, you just have to go
- 4:50Speaker 2: home and thank your parents because they're the ones who
- 4:53Speaker 2: you know. We live in a country area, so some
- 4:55Speaker 2: of them have to drive twenty minutes half an hour
- 4:58Speaker 2: to get their kids and take them home.
- 5:00Speaker 5: And so yeah, it was good, it was nice. So yes,
- 5:03Speaker 5: we did go the pub.
- 5:05Speaker 3: Well done, super coach.
- 5:07Speaker 5: Thanks the beer tasted like victory.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Sure, well earned.
- 5:11Speaker 5: Absolutely, Oh what's done?
- 5:14Speaker 3: I know she's shown us up, hasn't she?
- 5:17Speaker 5: Just like that only taken me eight years?
- 5:19Speaker 3: Oh well, oh god, we've got eight years to go No,
- 5:22Speaker 3: I'm not catching You're done. You're tapping out. Yeah, I'm
- 5:26Speaker 3: tapping out.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Well, Johnny's off to high school next year and she
- 5:29Speaker 1: wants to play for the school, and I think that's
- 5:31Speaker 1: a great idea. I would encourage her. Good, I would
- 5:36Speaker 1: encourage her. Yes, it's a very valid point. But encourage
- 5:42Speaker 1: you to go back to the community club in the
- 5:43Speaker 1: next year, because I think it's actually good. Like, don't
- 5:45Speaker 1: have all your eggs in the school basket, all girls'
- 5:49Speaker 1: school basket. I think it's to have friends outside of that.
- 5:52Speaker 1: But yeah, next year, she wants to play for the school,
- 5:54Speaker 1: and I think it's I think it'd be good for
- 5:55Speaker 1: her to have a different coach too. Fair enough, Yeah,
- 5:58Speaker 1: fair enough. Yeah, maybe you could come and go.
- 6:00Speaker 3: No, I'm good. I don't think I'm allowed to get
- 6:03Speaker 3: away from my team, Emma.
- 6:04Speaker 2: No.
- 6:05Speaker 1: We had our presentation day yesterday for gladesvill Ravens and
- 6:08Speaker 1: Ella bone and Steiner, who was at primary school with
- 6:10Speaker 1: my son and who I taught primary ethics to, was
- 6:13Speaker 1: Junior Coach of the Year. So our shout out Ella
- 6:15Speaker 1: Bodensteinering a wonderful job. Friend, Liz, You're not the only
- 6:27Speaker 1: coach who's been busy this week.
- 6:29Speaker 5: What Yeah, I don't believe it.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Other stuff has been happening. Katherine and I have had
- 6:33Speaker 1: our feed up from a coaching perspective me for quite
- 6:35Speaker 1: a few weeks now, but Stacey Marinkovich has been busy.
- 6:39Speaker 1: We have some Diamonds announcements.
- 6:41Speaker 3: And how great are these teams looking? Do you know
- 6:44Speaker 3: what I love more than anything though, the teams that
- 6:46Speaker 3: have been selected for both the South African series and
- 6:48Speaker 3: the New Zealand series.
- 6:49Speaker 2: So in drive to Catherine, so we have had two
- 6:52Speaker 2: teams named one for South Africa.
- 6:55Speaker 5: Yeah, one for New Zealand.
- 6:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:58Speaker 5: Fifteen in each team.
- 6:59Speaker 3: Yeah, standard squads, but every single player in the Diamond
- 7:05Speaker 3: squad is getting a crack, is getting an opportunity. Doesn't
- 7:08Speaker 3: mean they'll get on court when it gets down to
- 7:10Speaker 3: selecting the twelve for the Test series, but the fact
- 7:14Speaker 3: that every player has been represented across these two series
- 7:18Speaker 3: is really exciting. But I think really smart coaching from
- 7:22Speaker 3: Stacy Marienkovitch because she knows what great seasons they've had,
- 7:26Speaker 3: but how good are they on an international court within
- 7:30Speaker 3: the Australian Diamonds environment. That's what she wants to be
- 7:33Speaker 3: looking at now. So this is so exciting.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Can you explain to me so you're astonished. You sound
- 7:40Speaker 1: very surprised that they've all been invited into camp and
- 7:42Speaker 1: that they're all getting a crack. So that's not that common.
- 7:45Speaker 3: That doesn't always happen, no, right, But I think really
- 7:48Speaker 3: smart in given the timing of a Common Games next
- 7:51Speaker 3: year in a World Cup the year after, because as
- 7:54Speaker 3: you know, there's such little time together. It's so important
- 7:57Speaker 3: to get as much time together as a group when
- 8:00Speaker 3: you know how long the SSN season is, and this
- 8:02Speaker 3: is a really great way to utilize that time and
- 8:05Speaker 3: that you get everyone a crack, get them out on
- 8:08Speaker 3: court if you can. So, as Liz mentioned, fifteen have
- 8:11Speaker 3: been selected in the South African series, fifteen in the
- 8:14Speaker 3: New Zealand series. Each test match stays in Marinkovich and
- 8:18Speaker 3: the selectors will narrow that down to twelve. That can
- 8:21Speaker 3: change from Test to test within the one series, and
- 8:25Speaker 3: I think it will and I reckon that if you're
- 8:28Speaker 3: going to select them, she's going to play them because
- 8:31Speaker 3: which she'll want to see what they're like out on
- 8:33Speaker 3: court within this environment. So I mean, how great. Firstly,
- 8:36Speaker 3: then if we look at the South African Series, Alas Steagnild.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Yes, I exciting for Giants fans because Lucy Austin, who
- 8:44Speaker 1: we have seen nothing of all year, must have been
- 8:46Speaker 1: playing out of her mind in this Diamonds camp to
- 8:50Speaker 1: be getting this call up. I think that's great. I
- 8:53Speaker 1: can't wait to see what she's got.
- 8:55Speaker 3: Well, it's interesting, isn't it because if you think about
- 8:57Speaker 3: the two probably go to tall shooters that were in
- 9:02Speaker 3: the squad and or invite is Danell Wallom Lucy Austin. Yeh,
- 9:07Speaker 3: Lucy Austin, who hasn't played much this season at all,
- 9:11Speaker 3: gets the selection over Danell Wallam who played every single
- 9:14Speaker 3: game and big minutes in New Zealand. So you're right.
- 9:18Speaker 3: The camp would have been really telling, I think. And
- 9:21Speaker 3: this is very exciting for the Giants fans and for
- 9:23Speaker 3: Lucy Austin. How great.
- 9:24Speaker 5: Yeah, super exciting.
- 9:26Speaker 2: And the players who have come in who like, we're
- 9:28Speaker 2: really excited about it because they're young and they're being
- 9:30Speaker 2: given a go. Lucy Austin, Alice teag Neil and had
- 9:34Speaker 2: a Monday. You know, they're players who you think are
- 9:37Speaker 2: absolutely going to be in the mix twenty six, twenty
- 9:40Speaker 2: seven and beyond, and it'll be fascinating just to see
- 9:45Speaker 2: who gets picked for what game and then how much
- 9:48Speaker 2: game time they get. And I think particularly for someone
- 9:50Speaker 2: like Lucy Austin, for her to be just on tour
- 9:55Speaker 2: and around, I think it's a really good thing to
- 9:57Speaker 2: bring players on that way, so there's not a massive
- 10:00Speaker 2: amount of pressure. You're not just named in the twelve
- 10:01Speaker 2: and you've got to just get out there and perform.
- 10:04Speaker 2: They might get a test match to sort of ease
- 10:06Speaker 2: their way in to see what it's about to sit
- 10:08Speaker 2: that close on the sideline and have a real good
- 10:10Speaker 2: look at it. So yeah, I do think it's smart
- 10:12Speaker 2: having the fifteen for the South Africa series then the
- 10:15Speaker 2: fifteen for the concap.
- 10:17Speaker 3: You make that sound so funny though, because you can't
- 10:19Speaker 3: tell me there's not games within the games. Every time
- 10:22Speaker 3: these players get out on court, there's an enormous amount
- 10:24Speaker 3: of pressure on them because they have to perform, like
- 10:27Speaker 3: what if they don't get another opportunity. So I agree
- 10:30Speaker 3: with what you're saying and that you've got to be
- 10:32Speaker 3: in the environment and experience at all, but I reckon
- 10:34Speaker 3: there is an enormous amount of pressure still on these
- 10:37Speaker 3: players to when they get their opportunity absolutely smash it.
- 10:40Speaker 2: And I also wonder if I don't know the answer
- 10:43Speaker 2: to this, but you would suspect that Stacey.
- 10:45Speaker 5: Rinkovic is putting pressure on them through.
- 10:48Speaker 2: The training sessions, right, So every training session is a
- 10:51Speaker 2: selection because you are to try and get yourself into
- 10:53Speaker 2: that team of twelve.
- 10:54Speaker 5: So there's all that happening as well.
- 10:56Speaker 1: So as the self appointed president of the Aim Slagger
- 11:00Speaker 1: fan Club talk to me about about the invitee. So,
- 11:03Speaker 1: so they've been invited into camp. So it was Tea
- 11:07Speaker 1: and O Shannasy originally, but she's injured so she's out.
- 11:10Speaker 1: So Rudy, Rudy Ellis, Amy Slager, Danelle Wallom. So they
- 11:15Speaker 1: haven't been selected. Would they have gone in with an
- 11:18Speaker 1: expectation of being selected or is there a is this
- 11:22Speaker 1: a not this year? Come in, learn what it's all
- 11:25Speaker 1: about and then next year that might be your go
- 11:27Speaker 1: What how does this work?
- 11:28Speaker 3: I don't know if that's changed this this year. And
- 11:30Speaker 3: Liz might be able to talk a bit more to that.
- 11:32Speaker 3: But remember last year, Rudy Ellis was not in the squad.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Yep.
- 11:36Speaker 3: She came in as an invitee yep. She then was
- 11:40Speaker 3: selected into the squad and then she made the team
- 11:44Speaker 3: and that all happened in the space of it felt
- 11:46Speaker 3: like felt like a month. But it has happened before, yep,
- 11:50Speaker 3: you know, as recently as last year. So I think
- 11:52Speaker 3: the players certainly go we in feeling like they aren't
- 11:55Speaker 3: just there to make numbers.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Yeah, we're on stage, aren't you given an opportunity? It's
- 11:59Speaker 1: like you're on stage. And as you say, every training
- 12:02Speaker 1: session is a selection.
- 12:04Speaker 3: And it may not be for this series. They might
- 12:06Speaker 3: be aware of that, but they're not in the running
- 12:08Speaker 3: for this one, but they could be four common games
- 12:11Speaker 3: for the World Cup going forward. And don't forget injuries happen.
- 12:14Speaker 3: You know, there's a whole range of reasons that they
- 12:16Speaker 3: could go, certainly from an invitee into the squad or
- 12:19Speaker 3: into the team.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Now exciting.
- 12:22Speaker 3: Let's talk about the changes though, So from the South
- 12:24Speaker 3: African series through to the New Zealand series, there's three
- 12:28Speaker 3: changes that are made. So for New Zealand, Sunday Arian
- 12:31Speaker 3: comes in for Joe Weston, Yes, Lucy Austin goes out,
- 12:36Speaker 3: Sophie Dwyer comes in for the New Zealand series and
- 12:39Speaker 3: Amy Parmenter will sub in for Alice t Neild as well,
- 12:43Speaker 3: So there'll be three changes that happen across the two
- 12:46Speaker 3: test series there too. So as we mentioned, everybody gets.
- 12:48Speaker 1: A touch, and of course no Page Hadley, but that's
- 12:51Speaker 1: for pregnancy reasons, it's not for any other Good.
- 12:53Speaker 3: Luck, Stacey Marenkovich. That sounds like a nightmare.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Absolutely, yeah.
- 12:58Speaker 5: Wow, how good is it?
- 12:59Speaker 1: Right?
- 13:00Speaker 2: I think sometimes we get really focused on the number
- 13:03Speaker 2: of imports and overseas players in Super Netball and how
- 13:06Speaker 2: it might be affecting the Diamonds. But I mean, look
- 13:09Speaker 2: at there's two teams of fifteen there. There's eighteen players
- 13:12Speaker 2: who are fantastic you could have. You know, there's another
- 13:15Speaker 2: two or three players sitting just outside, and that invitea
- 13:17Speaker 2: leaves who you could always also like it's possibly just
- 13:22Speaker 2: a hairsbreadth for them to not be there. Yeah, Page
- 13:24Speaker 2: Hadley will come back in at some point next year. Like,
- 13:29Speaker 2: I just look at that, and I think things are
- 13:31Speaker 2: looking pretty good. And we'll get to see just how
- 13:34Speaker 2: good in these two series. And you know, regardless of
- 13:38Speaker 2: we'll talk about what's happening in New Zealand in a minute,
- 13:41Speaker 2: but regardless of what's happening over there, you know that
- 13:44Speaker 2: the Silver Ferns players, they will put that black dress
- 13:46Speaker 2: on and they grow an extra foot and they get
- 13:49Speaker 2: stronger and faster and all that sort of stuff. So
- 13:51Speaker 2: I think the Concup is going to be absolutely outrageously
- 13:54Speaker 2: good and it's exciting to see just the competition that
- 13:58Speaker 2: exists within this Diamonds program for space on court.
- 14:02Speaker 5: I think it's great.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Something that's happened in New Zealand this week that it's
- 14:20Speaker 1: not netball related, but it's sport related and I want
- 14:23Speaker 1: them to do better, please. So if you're a rugby fan,
- 14:25Speaker 1: you saw that South Africa the spring Box thumped the
- 14:28Speaker 1: All Blacks on the weekend, very unusual. The All Blacks
- 14:31Speaker 1: are not used to losing and clearly their fans are
- 14:34Speaker 1: not used to losing. So it was at the Wellington Stadium.
- 14:36Speaker 1: There the Cake Tin, which my mother lives in Wellington.
- 14:39Speaker 1: It's apparently quite divisive. Some people like to call it
- 14:42Speaker 1: the cake Tin, others disapprove of that. I like to
- 14:45Speaker 1: call it the ca Tin. But anyway, they've got yellow
- 14:46Speaker 1: seats in there because obviously the Wellington Hurricanes have yellow
- 14:50Speaker 1: so it's very obvious when fans are leaving before the
- 14:54Speaker 1: game is over and.
- 14:56Speaker 3: Goes from black to yellow.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, bumblebee, Yeah yeah, that's right, it goes from
- 15:01Speaker 1: black to yellow. And so we actually did a bit
- 15:03Speaker 1: of a rewind to watch this, and it's like, it's interesting,
- 15:07Speaker 1: isn't it when you get used to your team winning
- 15:09Speaker 1: all the time, how hard it is as a fan
- 15:12Speaker 1: to hang in there when your team's losing. So the
- 15:15Speaker 1: All Blacks were right in it at halftime. I think
- 15:17Speaker 1: the scores were even at halftime, and the second half
- 15:19Speaker 1: was just was was hard to watch, but like.
- 15:22Speaker 5: Don't leave.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Yeah, stay, you know, stuff happens. Look what happens to
- 15:27Speaker 1: some god. Super Apple Final was decided in the last
- 15:30Speaker 1: few seconds, So I don't like it. Come on, fans,
- 15:33Speaker 1: stay there, stay the course, stay with your team, good
- 15:35Speaker 1: or bad. And this is from a Wallabies I.
- 15:37Speaker 2: Was going to say, you're talking to Catherine. Catherine, she's
- 15:40Speaker 2: the only person I know who is thinking about how
- 15:42Speaker 2: she's going to get home before she actually leaves. She'd
- 15:47Speaker 2: be sitting in the stadium going, oh, it's half time,
- 15:50Speaker 2: we're down.
- 15:51Speaker 5: Could I go now?
- 15:51Speaker 2: Could I go down and get in the bed with
- 15:53Speaker 2: a cup of tea and a biscuit?
- 15:54Speaker 1: And I think that's what people are doing trying to
- 15:56Speaker 1: get out of the car park early. But it's like,
- 15:58Speaker 1: my god, you've invested the time and money going to
- 16:00Speaker 1: this event. Stay for the whole thing, Catherine, Stay for
- 16:03Speaker 1: the whole thing.
- 16:03Speaker 3: I will from now on.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Yes, But so that's something that happened in New Zealand
- 16:07Speaker 1: on the weekend. But I don't think that's the biggest
- 16:08Speaker 1: news out of New Zealand.
- 16:09Speaker 3: Actually, is this a perfect little segue New Zealand begay? Yeah?
- 16:15Speaker 1: This is actually bamboozling, isn't it. So Dame Nolin Tarua
- 16:21Speaker 1: has been stood down the coach of the Silver Fins.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Now I'm going to do a summary of this based
- 16:25Speaker 1: on everything that I have seen in the public domain.
- 16:28Speaker 1: So none of this is because I've got an inside
- 16:31Speaker 1: track to some special information or whatever.
- 16:34Speaker 3: But just on that, can we clarify we don't know.
- 16:37Speaker 3: We actually do not know. So everything that we're talking
- 16:40Speaker 3: about is what we've heard from some good sources, from
- 16:43Speaker 3: what you've gathered in the media.
- 16:45Speaker 1: And we have to be very careful with this because
- 16:47Speaker 1: this is a live issue. Obviously, it's people's employment in
- 16:49Speaker 1: place here, there's obviously an enormous number of sensitivities legal
- 16:53Speaker 1: and otherwise. Here we want to talk about it, but
- 16:56Speaker 1: we are going to be responsible about it because that's
- 16:59Speaker 1: what we do here. At no dribble, we are responsible. So,
- 17:02Speaker 1: as far as I understand it, Dame Nolinterua and Briany
- 17:07Speaker 1: Aikle and dead Fuller Deb Fuller have been stood down.
- 17:11Speaker 1: The Ferns are about to play South Africa in a
- 17:16Speaker 1: three test series, the Tiny Jamison.
- 17:17Speaker 3: Cup, and first one on the twenty first of this month.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Twenty first of this month, which is Sunday, this Sunday.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Vette McCausland jury has been asked to step in as coach.
- 17:28Speaker 1: She doesn't really know for how long or so she's
- 17:31Speaker 1: stepping up and doing that job. There is, as far
- 17:34Speaker 1: as I can see, no question that she had anything
- 17:36Speaker 1: to do with what's gone on here. Jenny Wiley, the
- 17:39Speaker 1: CEO of Netball New Zealand is overseas. She's not there.
- 17:44Speaker 1: And remember this is the team that won the Constellation
- 17:46Speaker 1: Cup from Australia just last year November last year, late
- 17:50Speaker 1: last year. Three to one. They won that series. And
- 17:53Speaker 1: remember they had they could almost have had a clean sweep.
- 17:56Speaker 1: Australia won the final game they defeated Australia by eighteen
- 17:59Speaker 1: goals in person was a really convincing win from a
- 18:02Speaker 1: team who were playing well. We have subsequently had eight
- 18:05Speaker 1: players signed for sun Corps Supernetball for next year, which
- 18:09Speaker 1: was looking interesting, but apparently after the games in here
- 18:13Speaker 1: in New South Wales in January, one or more of
- 18:17Speaker 1: the players has raised concerns about Dame Nolinta's coaching style
- 18:22Speaker 1: and said she or they are feeling psychologically unsafe in
- 18:26Speaker 1: this work environment. And there has been an investigation that
- 18:30Speaker 1: Netball New Zealand has done and that for the time
- 18:33Speaker 1: being the coaching team have been stood down, not fired.
- 18:38Speaker 1: We don't know what it really means. So that's and
- 18:41Speaker 1: I mean, I do understand when you are looking at
- 18:43Speaker 1: issues of psychological safety. And I have to say, as
- 18:48Speaker 1: a gen X, I have to try really hard not
- 18:50Speaker 1: to roll my eyes when I say psychologically safe workplace
- 18:53Speaker 1: when we are talking about a high performance sport environment.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Now I say that in the context of someone who
- 18:58Speaker 1: has been in a word place where I have had
- 19:02Speaker 1: a completely psychologically unsafe environment is very damaging. So but
- 19:06Speaker 1: it is I find this I find this one incredibly
- 19:10Speaker 1: hard to work out because it's like if you want
- 19:12Speaker 1: to be in the team, you've got to be the best. Right,
- 19:13Speaker 1: So Dame Nolen has very high standards around fitness. I
- 19:18Speaker 1: would have thought that's fair enough. Like you're either the
- 19:20Speaker 1: fittest or you're not, and if you're not the fittest,
- 19:23Speaker 1: you can't do this.
- 19:25Speaker 3: I feel like sport and elite sport. Professional sport is
- 19:28Speaker 3: a different kettle of fish. It is because it is firstly,
- 19:32Speaker 3: players fighting each other for position in teams. And Liz,
- 19:36Speaker 3: we have been in teams where we've had our asses kicked,
- 19:41Speaker 3: we've been flogged, we've not necessarily got on with the coach.
- 19:45Speaker 3: And while I'm talking about that, I'll point to the
- 19:47Speaker 3: twenty seven World Cup. Right, So that went a lot
- 19:52Speaker 3: longer than it should have. I've never trained so hard
- 19:54Speaker 3: in my life. We were flogged within an inch of
- 19:56Speaker 3: our lives. But I will say this, We got to
- 19:59Speaker 3: the World Championship and we knew we were going to
- 20:02Speaker 3: win it. There was no question because the coach had
- 20:07Speaker 3: put it to us that we need to be the
- 20:08Speaker 3: fittest we've ever been. We need to really commit to this.
- 20:11Speaker 3: Everybody has to be on board. It is tough at
- 20:14Speaker 3: the top. Right, we trained our asses off. We got
- 20:17Speaker 3: there complete confidence that we could do the job because
- 20:22Speaker 3: there wasn't a stone left unturned. That is from my understanding,
- 20:26Speaker 3: particularly talking and listening to ex players that have been
- 20:29Speaker 3: under Noline Tadora and seeing her results, that is the
- 20:33Speaker 3: way she operates. She wants to make sure that every
- 20:36Speaker 3: single person under her watch is doing absolutely everything in
- 20:40Speaker 3: their power to be the best they can. And I
- 20:44Speaker 3: want to bring up a comment or a big statement
- 20:48Speaker 3: from Laura Langman. Now, Laura Langman refuses to speak to media.
- 20:52Speaker 3: The amount of times we've tried to get her on
- 20:54Speaker 3: the broadcast when we're with Channel nine and then again
- 20:57Speaker 3: with Fox, she flat out refuses to do it. She
- 20:59Speaker 3: doesn't want to be in she doesn't want to put
- 21:01Speaker 3: a name out there. She certainly doesn't want to be
- 21:03Speaker 3: involved with controversy. She was one of the first people
- 21:06Speaker 3: to come out and say Sally, so her words to
- 21:09Speaker 3: me straight away have weight, like why is she now
- 21:13Speaker 3: coming out on a topic like this and getting on
- 21:16Speaker 3: the front foot and being really passionate about it. She's
- 21:19Speaker 3: one of the fittest and toughest in the game, one
- 21:22Speaker 3: of the most experienced, one of the most successful, and
- 21:24Speaker 3: straight away jumped into the defence of Noline tatol That
- 21:28Speaker 3: says a lot to me, knowing nothing about what's gone on,
- 21:33Speaker 3: but you just know that you know, she was the
- 21:35Speaker 3: first one to say in that statement, Noline Tatoua is tough.
- 21:38Speaker 3: She expects the best of her players. But when someone
- 21:41Speaker 3: like Laura Langeman says it, you get that right because
- 21:44Speaker 3: she's and she said she's always done it in a
- 21:46Speaker 3: fair manner too. So I really found her comments interesting
- 21:50Speaker 3: when you know full well that she doesn't come out
- 21:53Speaker 3: and comment on stuff.
- 21:54Speaker 1: And like Liz, so you are being deliberately quiet here,
- 21:57Speaker 1: and we've talked about this before we had this conversation.
- 21:59Speaker 1: This is it difficult position for you to be in
- 22:02Speaker 1: to be having this chat. So just so everyone knows,
- 22:05Speaker 1: Liz is here and we haven't physically gagged her, but
- 22:08Speaker 1: she is being very careful with what she says.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Absolutely, So this is a really difficult situation for Netball
- 22:16Speaker 2: New Zealand with the silver Ferns for Nola and Tadua,
- 22:19Speaker 2: for the coaching group. And I don't want to wade
- 22:21Speaker 2: into it in any way, shape or form. I've all
- 22:23Speaker 2: seen plenty of things said on the record and There's
- 22:27Speaker 2: been lots written about it, and you sort of can't
- 22:29Speaker 2: avoid it. If your algorithms have anything to do with network.
- 22:32Speaker 2: This stuff just gets pushed up. So I guess for me,
- 22:36Speaker 2: I just sit and watch with interest. But if I
- 22:38Speaker 2: step back and take the view from ten thousand feet,
- 22:41Speaker 2: I will say it's something that every organization in Australia
- 22:44Speaker 2: has to think very carefully about. And I would say
- 22:46Speaker 2: that every sporting organization has to think carefully about where
- 22:51Speaker 2: the line is between high performance and how you make
- 22:55Speaker 2: sure not so much of the line, how you achieve
- 22:57Speaker 2: high performance, and how you make sure that everybody within
- 23:00Speaker 2: your workplace, athletes, coaches, administrators, all feel psychologically safe.
- 23:04Speaker 3: Can I ask you a question, liz On, do you
- 23:06Speaker 3: think that line shifted across time?
- 23:10Speaker 2: I don't know, and I don't know that I'm qualified
- 23:13Speaker 2: enough to comment, Okay, simply because it's probably a line
- 23:18Speaker 2: that at some point someone smarter than me will have
- 23:21Speaker 2: to quantify what that is like at some point there'll
- 23:24Speaker 2: be there'll be a legal case about it, and there
- 23:26Speaker 2: will actually be a legal definition of what that line
- 23:29Speaker 2: is and what can be done in the pursuit of
- 23:31Speaker 2: high performance and what protections need to happen around both
- 23:35Speaker 2: athletes and coaches because at the end of the day,
- 23:38Speaker 2: the athletes and the coaches all are employers of the
- 23:41Speaker 2: same organization.
- 23:42Speaker 5: Often so there is that tension between the two and
- 23:47Speaker 5: when you sit in the role of a CEO or a.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Board member, particularly boards, but boards are now legally required
- 23:54Speaker 2: to make inquiries as to the psychosocial safety of their
- 24:00Speaker 2: employees and to ensure that there is a legal requirement
- 24:04Speaker 2: to provide a psychologically safe workplace. Right So, and this
- 24:08Speaker 2: is where you get this real tension between what the
- 24:11Speaker 2: lawry is and then how traditionally high performance sport may
- 24:14Speaker 2: or may not have worked. So I think every sports
- 24:17Speaker 2: administrator is probably sitting back and watching this with with
- 24:20Speaker 2: great interest and a bit of concern and wanting to
- 24:24Speaker 2: understand what the correct way is forward. So I absolutely
- 24:28Speaker 2: do not want to comment on what's happening. It's not
- 24:31Speaker 2: something that I can do other than to say it
- 24:34Speaker 2: is if you step back, it's quite a broad conversation
- 24:37Speaker 2: that probably has to happen across the sporting ecosystem.
- 24:40Speaker 3: Do you know what I find fascinating though, is the
- 24:42Speaker 3: points you talk to there about looking forward, because whatever
- 24:46Speaker 3: happens has got to kind of happened quickly. Right now,
- 24:49Speaker 3: this is the two biggest years for netball. The Silver
- 24:54Speaker 3: Fans looked like they had settled with a coach that
- 24:56Speaker 3: had brought them success and they were happy with and
- 24:59Speaker 3: they had four for her to go back there and
- 25:01Speaker 3: sign on with them for this next couple of campaigns.
- 25:04Speaker 3: But time is of the essence. Like you see Stacey
- 25:07Speaker 3: Mareenkovitch and the Diamonds, as soon as the season's over
- 25:09Speaker 3: they get their players together. They understand that that time
- 25:12Speaker 3: together is so precious, particularly light of the fact now
- 25:15Speaker 3: that next season will have so many of those silver
- 25:17Speaker 3: ferns on Australian soil. That's less touch they've got with
- 25:21Speaker 3: them again. But if they don't sort this out, whichever
- 25:24Speaker 3: way it goes, you know, we don't know obviously what's
- 25:26Speaker 3: going on whichever way they decide to go. I think
- 25:29Speaker 3: they've really got to sort out quickly because if they don't,
- 25:33Speaker 3: New Zealand's going to struggle to find a podium. They
- 25:36Speaker 3: really will, Like they're already battling uphill against your Jamaica's
- 25:40Speaker 3: your England, you're Australia. Although as you say, they had
- 25:43Speaker 3: recent success at the Constellation Car.
- 25:45Speaker 1: They had recent success. You know, what does a coach
- 25:47Speaker 1: have to do?
- 25:48Speaker 3: I know, but the last two the last Common Games
- 25:51Speaker 3: and World Cup, they haven't had the success they would
- 25:53Speaker 3: have liked. So that's their big challenge. But they need
- 25:56Speaker 3: some stability in there, and they need it now. Whatever
- 25:59Speaker 3: that looks like.
- 26:00Speaker 1: It's really interesting, this psychological safety thing, when you are
- 26:04Speaker 1: looking at a high performance environment like this that it's
- 26:07Speaker 1: like I can see legal challenges down the track for
- 26:10Speaker 1: many different sports where people who are not selected for
- 26:14Speaker 1: very good reasons go well, I don't feel like this
- 26:18Speaker 1: workplace was optimal for me in order to perform or
- 26:22Speaker 1: you know, it strikes me as something that can be
- 26:24Speaker 1: very easily weaponized in this environment. And that doesn't mean
- 26:27Speaker 1: it's sort of hard. We throw our hands up and
- 26:29Speaker 1: we don't do it. But I think in something like
- 26:31Speaker 1: this in professional sport, but even in things like like
- 26:34Speaker 1: fireies and things. You know, we need our fireies to
- 26:36Speaker 1: be fit, don't we We want these people whose lives we
- 26:39Speaker 1: depend on. There needs to be difficult standards in place
- 26:43Speaker 1: for jobs like professional sport, for jobs like fire fighting
- 26:47Speaker 1: where we rely on people, you know, we need to
- 26:50Speaker 1: have difficult standards in place for pilots and you know,
- 26:53Speaker 1: people in the medical field, and I just this it's
- 26:56Speaker 1: a really interesting time for the workplace and from a
- 26:58Speaker 1: governance perspective and for boards to how how do we
- 27:02Speaker 1: make sure that we are doing this rigorously but still
- 27:06Speaker 1: able to function and do the job that we're here
- 27:08Speaker 1: to do well.
- 27:09Speaker 3: It's a big part of selection criteria too, isn't it.
- 27:12Speaker 3: And I mean the selectors don't just go out there
- 27:13Speaker 3: and go, oh, I like what she just did, then
- 27:15Speaker 3: we'll select her. The criteria for a selection of the
- 27:18Speaker 3: Australian diamonds, for instance, is huge, isn't it. Like there's
- 27:22Speaker 3: there's fitness levels, there's there's a whole mess of stuff
- 27:25Speaker 3: on the list, and of course and fitness is one
- 27:28Speaker 3: of them, one hundred percent is And we keep referring
- 27:30Speaker 3: to that. We don't know if that's what it is.
- 27:32Speaker 3: We're just you know, talking to the fact that that's
- 27:34Speaker 3: one of the things we all know. Noline Taylor is
- 27:36Speaker 3: really strict on and really tough on. But you've got
- 27:39Speaker 3: to have you know, all the boxes ticked for selection anyway,
- 27:43Speaker 3: It's not like, you know, if you're not doing it.
- 27:45Speaker 3: And I am why should you get in over me,
- 27:47Speaker 3: you know that sort of stuff. It's it's it's a
- 27:50Speaker 3: tough one, but you know we're all got the popcorn
- 27:52Speaker 3: out and can't wait to see what happens and where
- 27:54Speaker 3: it goes.
- 27:58Speaker 5: I have no I have zero opinion, fair enough to well, can.
- 28:02Speaker 3: We talk about something exciting that you will have an
- 28:04Speaker 3: opinion on because you're a big part of it. Happened
- 28:07Speaker 3: on Australian soil. The new diamond CPA.
- 28:10Speaker 1: This is great, Liz.
- 28:12Speaker 3: Can you just talk us through it all because there's
- 28:13Speaker 3: a couple of points in there that I didn't really understand,
- 28:16Speaker 3: but we'd love to get an understanding of it, you know,
- 28:18Speaker 3: particularly when everyone's shouting from the rooftops the first time
- 28:21Speaker 3: that there's been a revenue share partnership.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Let's first of all, say what CPA stands for.
- 28:27Speaker 3: Our Collective Players Agreement.
- 28:29Speaker 1: YEP, not Certified Practicing Accountants. We're not talking about It's
- 28:33Speaker 1: not the we talk about accounting, but we talk about
- 28:36Speaker 1: so much more.
- 28:37Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 28:38Speaker 2: So it was announced last week first ever revenue share
- 28:41Speaker 2: model between Netball Australia and the Diamonds. It will result
- 28:46Speaker 2: in significant increases for Diamonds players across the course of
- 28:49Speaker 2: the agreement, and it's taken a huge amount of work
- 28:53Speaker 2: and I think both Stacey West who's the CEO of
- 28:56Speaker 2: Netball Australia, and Catherine Harvey Williams, who's the CEO of
- 28:59Speaker 2: the Players Asociation, should both take an enormous bow. They've
- 29:02Speaker 2: both worked really hard. It's been a long process, but
- 29:06Speaker 2: a very worthwhile one to make sure that we get
- 29:09Speaker 2: to the right agreement for our sport. And it essentially
- 29:13Speaker 2: allows for the diamonds to share in revenue, particularly as
- 29:16Speaker 2: revenues increase, we hope, and it allows for Netball Australia
- 29:21Speaker 2: to work in partnership with the players. So it gives
- 29:25Speaker 2: us a very base level, a certain amount of hours
- 29:28Speaker 2: for players so that we can so that they can
- 29:30Speaker 2: be utilized in campaigns and that sort of thing, which
- 29:33Speaker 2: result in more money coming into the sport and that
- 29:35Speaker 2: way more money comes into the Diamonds as well. And
- 29:38Speaker 2: there's a lot that goes into this. It's not just
- 29:40Speaker 2: going oh, well, here's the money and here's your percentage.
- 29:43Speaker 2: You really have to negotiate down to ours and down
- 29:47Speaker 2: to what constitutes tools of the trade and all that
- 29:50Speaker 2: sort of stuff. So it is a huge amount of work.
- 29:52Speaker 2: But essentially what it is is the landmark deal for
- 29:55Speaker 2: our sport and it's really exciting and it's been a
- 29:59Speaker 2: long time coming and it's it's a result of a
- 30:02Speaker 2: lot of hard work.
- 30:03Speaker 3: Do you think it's too late to come out of retirement?
- 30:08Speaker 3: Wouldn't that be nice? Hate One of the points though
- 30:11Speaker 3: on there was that there's an employer ambass at a
- 30:14Speaker 3: pool of eighty four thousand a year. What does that mean?
- 30:18Speaker 2: That means that there is money set aside for players
- 30:21Speaker 2: to be utilized as their backs, that is for different
- 30:25Speaker 2: programs or different things. So it's extra money on top
- 30:29Speaker 2: that can be paid to the players for extra work.
- 30:31Speaker 2: Essentially amazing and it can't and it can't go to
- 30:34Speaker 2: ex players who are now commentators.
- 30:35Speaker 1: What a shame is it two and a half three
- 30:39Speaker 1: years ago that the relations between Australian players and Netball
- 30:44Speaker 1: Australia were probably an all time low. So you know,
- 30:48Speaker 1: when you look at what's going on in New Zealand
- 30:50Speaker 1: at the moment, if they can write the ship, you know,
- 30:52Speaker 1: it's like this is this is quite a remarkable thing
- 30:55Speaker 1: where the players Association and the organization have come together
- 30:58Speaker 1: and gone this is something where bigger pie everybody wins
- 31:02Speaker 1: when two and a half years ago they could barely
- 31:05Speaker 1: speak could they like. It's just it's just interesting from
- 31:09Speaker 1: an organizational perspective that this can be turned around as
- 31:12Speaker 1: quickly as it has.
- 31:13Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's something that I think both organizations, both
- 31:16Speaker 2: and Netball Australia can be really proud of. They've both
- 31:19Speaker 2: leant into it and it hasn't been easy at times
- 31:20Speaker 2: because both organizations are really working in the same direction
- 31:25Speaker 2: but might have different views about different things. But to
- 31:29Speaker 2: actually get to the point where you can sign on.
- 31:31Speaker 5: The dotted line is incredible.
- 31:33Speaker 2: And I think, you know, the guidingline has to be
- 31:36Speaker 2: that the players are at the heart of the game now,
- 31:39Speaker 2: whether that's elite players or whether that's grassroots players, the
- 31:42Speaker 2: game exists for players and our job is to really
- 31:46Speaker 2: invest in these players as a way to invest in
- 31:49Speaker 2: the growth.
- 31:49Speaker 5: Of the game, and so they go hand in hand.
- 31:52Speaker 2: So yeah, it is a remarkable turnaround, and I think
- 31:54Speaker 2: it's you know, it's it's exciting to think that we've
- 31:58Speaker 2: got to this point. But I'm also excited to think
- 32:00Speaker 2: about who you might get to know so good.
- 32:02Speaker 3: Hey, question around the revenue share is that on sponsorships
- 32:06Speaker 3: or is that ticket sales from games? Is it all inclusive?
- 32:09Speaker 3: How does that work?
- 32:10Speaker 2: There's a few carve outs and I'm going into into details,
- 32:14Speaker 2: but there's certainly you know, there's a there's a couple
- 32:17Speaker 2: of carve outs that included, there's things that are included
- 32:21Speaker 2: and like, it's not it's it's actually I feel like
- 32:24Speaker 2: there's a bit of witchcraft in understanding how revshare agreements
- 32:27Speaker 2: work because you've got to work out what's included, what
- 32:30Speaker 2: bucket that goes into, and the percentages. So yeah, but essentially,
- 32:35Speaker 2: the more tickets that have sold, the more sponsorships that
- 32:37Speaker 2: have done, the bigger the sponsorships, the better it is
- 32:39Speaker 2: for everyone.
- 32:40Speaker 3: Amazing, well done?
- 32:43Speaker 1: This is this is any other sport doing this?
- 32:46Speaker 5: Hops of other sports? Yeah, So AFL does it, rebul
- 32:49Speaker 5: league does it? Cricket does it? Cricket? Really?
- 32:51Speaker 2: Do you remember the cricket dispute five or six years
- 32:54Speaker 2: ago and it was about the rev share And it's
- 32:58Speaker 2: a bit nerve wracking because you think, oh my good,
- 33:01Speaker 2: because it's a revshare, things can move up and down.
- 33:04Speaker 2: So that we've seen other sports do it, and you know,
- 33:07Speaker 2: there's plenty of evidence around to show that when sports
- 33:11Speaker 2: do get into a revenue share arrangement with their athletes,
- 33:14Speaker 2: their revenue increases, so it makes sense to do it.
- 33:19Speaker 3: Forty increase for the player payments is unreal incredible. So
- 33:25Speaker 3: congrats everyone, so excited to see where our diamonds ends
- 33:29Speaker 3: up and where the sport ends up. But god, this
- 33:31Speaker 3: has been pretty bloody good thus far.
- 33:32Speaker 5: It isn't very good.
- 33:33Speaker 1: Yeah, it's exciting, Ut Liz Cat's just gone off to
- 33:42Speaker 1: the bathroom. But something you'll need to turn your mind
- 33:47Speaker 1: to now now that your team has been victorious in
- 33:50Speaker 1: the Grand Final. Don't know whether we've mentioned that enough
- 33:52Speaker 1: times in this particular episode. I think that we should
- 33:55Speaker 1: make sure that we're talking about it our of block.
- 34:01Speaker 1: But so, as a question on the Facebook group a
- 34:03Speaker 1: couple of weeks ago about sort of off season activities for
- 34:06Speaker 1: teams and for players, what are you going to be
- 34:08Speaker 1: looking for for your guys?
- 34:10Speaker 5: I don't want them to think about it. Nipball court.
- 34:12Speaker 2: Frankly, well, some of them are going to play in
- 34:14Speaker 2: the Twilight competition in Ballina, and some of them have
- 34:18Speaker 2: made the gross mistake of signing up to play for
- 34:21Speaker 2: a team with their mothers and my daughter is one
- 34:24Speaker 2: of those who's signed to playing a team with her mother,
- 34:26Speaker 2: so she may not survive Chilich doesn't do what I
- 34:30Speaker 2: tell her to do, which she's playing.
- 34:32Speaker 5: Catherine's back. Good to have you back, Catherine. So I
- 34:35Speaker 5: think that's.
- 34:36Speaker 2: An interesting conversation, isn't it about like off season fitness
- 34:39Speaker 2: for kids?
- 34:40Speaker 5: And I reckon you can get too carried away with it.
- 34:42Speaker 2: Because I actually think you should just play sport, So
- 34:46Speaker 2: don't worry about training.
- 34:47Speaker 5: Don't worry about like, no, I've got to go and
- 34:49Speaker 5: get fit for netball season. Kids are little kids. Put
- 34:52Speaker 5: them in another sport.
- 34:53Speaker 2: So my kids, my daughter will play basketball, just rutten
- 34:57Speaker 2: up and down. She plays rugby, so lots of running
- 35:00Speaker 2: for her. And of course we get one week off
- 35:03Speaker 2: and then we flick into cricket season. So I think
- 35:06Speaker 2: it's more off season for parents. You just need to
- 35:09Speaker 2: change of scenery, don't you, from the netball courts to
- 35:11Speaker 2: the cricket field.
- 35:12Speaker 1: No. I am so excited. So we start summer netball
- 35:16Speaker 1: this week with gratings. It's my birthday. We're going along
- 35:20Speaker 1: for gradings on Saturday morning. I am sitting there with
- 35:23Speaker 1: a cup of coffee and I'm talking through the whole thing.
- 35:26Speaker 1: I'm not anything to do with what's happening on court.
- 35:29Speaker 1: I bring my daughter. I'm going to be talking to
- 35:31Speaker 1: the other parents, and I'm very excited about that. And
- 35:35Speaker 1: that is my off season. She loves to play summer netball,
- 35:38Speaker 1: so it's like, great, we will go and do that.
- 35:41Speaker 1: But it's quite the holiday for me. I'm very excited
- 35:45Speaker 1: just enjoy put the feet up, yeah, completely.
- 35:48Speaker 5: Yeah, but some of netball's fun, right, Some of netball's fun. Yeah.
- 35:52Speaker 2: And at our association, there's lots of mixed teams and
- 35:55Speaker 2: there's a fast five comp and I.
- 35:57Speaker 5: Love the way they do it.
- 35:57Speaker 2: Like you turn up, you don't have to bring anything,
- 36:00Speaker 2: there's no coaching, and then you get to your court
- 36:02Speaker 2: and there's a school board and a set of bibs
- 36:05Speaker 2: and a ball in a bucket on the side, or
- 36:07Speaker 2: two sets of bibs and you just get on and
- 36:10Speaker 2: you play.
- 36:10Speaker 5: No one love tied about uniforms or anything like that.
- 36:13Speaker 5: So yeah, so I.
- 36:15Speaker 2: Reckon just the best thing you can do for your kids,
- 36:17Speaker 2: particularly the younger theay. I just put them in another
- 36:19Speaker 2: sport across training. There's lots of science and about if
- 36:23Speaker 2: you push your kids and hold has your kids and
- 36:25Speaker 2: just make them think about one sport, they'll hate your guts.
- 36:28Speaker 2: I think that is a scientific term by the time
- 36:29Speaker 2: they're about sixteen. But if your kids give you kids
- 36:32Speaker 2: the opportunity to do lots of different sports, uses different muscles,
- 36:35Speaker 2: but don't overload. Cross training keeps their bodies fresh, keeps
- 36:39Speaker 2: their brains fresh. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.
- 36:42Speaker 1: We went yesterday to a school fate for a local
- 36:45Speaker 1: school down the road. It's not the school my daughter
- 36:47Speaker 1: goes to, but she and her dad's school were performing
- 36:50Speaker 1: there and so she had to go and meet the
- 36:53Speaker 1: teachers first. And so we're wandering around and they had
- 36:56Speaker 1: a great Lebanese foodstorm. So I really want a fluffle.
- 37:01Speaker 5: Role had a.
- 37:01Speaker 1: Little bit of a hangover yesterday, and so we went
- 37:04Speaker 1: up and we ordered white pete. I'll go to share
- 37:06Speaker 1: one together, and it's like, Fortunately it was about eleven
- 37:09Speaker 1: thirty in the morning, because I reckon they're probably still
- 37:11Speaker 1: making some of the orders from yesterday.
- 37:14Speaker 5: There.
- 37:14Speaker 1: Now the processes that they had in place, all of
- 37:18Speaker 1: these incredibly well meaning parents. You had to go to
- 37:21Speaker 1: one place in order and then they wrote out in
- 37:24Speaker 1: a receipt book what it was, so it was a
- 37:26Speaker 1: flufful role. And then I wanted to bully and hot
- 37:29Speaker 1: chili sauce, So there was no there was no abbreviation
- 37:32Speaker 1: of this at all. It right out the receipt one
- 37:35Speaker 1: flufful role, add to bully hot chili sauce, and then
- 37:39Speaker 1: that gets passed to someone else who then writes in
- 37:42Speaker 1: her lovely hendritia. Because so in the receipt book it
- 37:45Speaker 1: was perfect penmanship. But I just I was already getting frustrated.
- 37:50Speaker 1: But then that gets passed along to someone who wrote
- 37:52Speaker 1: the order again in full on the packet that they
- 37:56Speaker 1: make them in, and then that gets passed along to
- 37:58Speaker 1: someone else who who makes it and then you give
- 38:02Speaker 1: your payment there. But it's like, you guys, you're going
- 38:05Speaker 1: to drown in admin. And I couldn't. I couldn't see
- 38:09Speaker 1: the point in any of the ADMIN. I get it
- 38:12Speaker 1: for accounting purposes. You kind of want to keep track,
- 38:14Speaker 1: but like the end of the day, at those sorts
- 38:16Speaker 1: of school fake things, time is of the essence, right,
- 38:19Speaker 1: and it's like we're going to slip a couple of
- 38:21Speaker 1: dollars here and there, who knows, But right on the bag,
- 38:23Speaker 1: get the thing made, get the money, get the person
- 38:25Speaker 1: out of there.
- 38:26Speaker 3: I don't see the point in fluffles when you hungover.
- 38:29Speaker 3: Speaking of seeing the point, I couldn't think of anything worse.
- 38:33Speaker 3: Fluffel would make me gag.
- 38:35Speaker 1: Really, yes, oh my god, it's the greatest.
- 38:38Speaker 2: Really?
- 38:39Speaker 3: Would you put it on my list?
- 38:40Speaker 1: Would you go at kebab?
- 38:42Speaker 2: Yes?
- 38:42Speaker 3: Kebab, yes, Not the fluffel. I think it's just too
- 38:45Speaker 3: strong a flavor.
- 38:46Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 38:46Speaker 3: I know I'm down for kebab because it's a bit plainer, right,
- 38:49Speaker 3: Just meat or chicken.
- 38:51Speaker 5: Fluffels aren't a strong flavor. They're just chickens.
- 38:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know.
- 38:56Speaker 1: Just the greatest it's Is it the texture?
- 39:02Speaker 3: It could be the texture, but I don't know.
- 39:04Speaker 1: You have to get the balance right with your tahini
- 39:06Speaker 1: and your hummus and your hot chili sauce.
- 39:08Speaker 3: I totally I recommend it. I needed one on Sunday
- 39:12Speaker 3: because my addiction turned into a halloomy making class. I
- 39:18Speaker 3: went to learn how to make halluomy on Saturday night.
- 39:21Speaker 3: I can't remember because it was also bottomless bubbles.
- 39:24Speaker 1: Are you any good at making halloomy?
- 39:26Speaker 4: No?
- 39:27Speaker 3: It was really good and i've still got it in
- 39:28Speaker 3: the fridge at home, and you put it in the
- 39:31Speaker 3: hot water at the end for a certain number of minutes,
- 39:34Speaker 3: depending on how squeaky you want it.
- 39:37Speaker 1: So when you say you put it in the hot water,
- 39:41Speaker 1: what is it?
- 39:41Speaker 3: Oh? It is basically full cream milk like the stuff
- 39:44Speaker 3: that's got the actual cream on top, good start skim milk,
- 39:48Speaker 3: powder and some other fancy things that make it.
- 39:51Speaker 2: Do it?
- 39:51Speaker 1: Think a rennet?
- 39:52Speaker 3: I want to say, when it's in it, When it's
- 39:55Speaker 3: in it, see, I was about two or three glasses
- 39:57Speaker 3: of bubbles in at that point.
- 39:58Speaker 5: Actually, rennet would be a really good scrabble word.
- 40:01Speaker 3: It would. It would right, put that, Write that down everyone. Anyway,
- 40:04Speaker 3: it was. It was all very fascinating. And then you
- 40:06Speaker 3: just fold it up and let it do its thing
- 40:08Speaker 3: and set in a certain shape, and then you chop
- 40:10Speaker 3: it up and put your bits.
- 40:11Speaker 1: So is it like a dough that it has to
- 40:13Speaker 1: sit and prove for a bit, doesn't?
- 40:15Speaker 5: Yeah? Okay?
- 40:16Speaker 3: And then once it's done that, you chop it up
- 40:18Speaker 3: and you put it in the hot water. But you
- 40:20Speaker 3: leave it in the water for however many minutes. The
- 40:23Speaker 3: longer you leave it, the squeakier it became Wow. Yeah,
- 40:26Speaker 3: that's fascinating, but hell's bells not going to make it again.
- 40:30Speaker 3: It's easy to buy.
- 40:31Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, that was going to be my question, would
- 40:33Speaker 5: you make it again? Not at all?
- 40:35Speaker 3: No, No, I'll go back and drink the bubbles for
- 40:37Speaker 3: two hours again. That was a good fun night.
- 40:39Speaker 1: So no dripple. We've now cooking podcast. We have great.
- 40:42Speaker 1: It's like Gordon Ramsey I was going to say, with
- 40:43Speaker 1: less swearing, but I think some weeks we're not.
- 40:45Speaker 5: We're not.
- 40:46Speaker 2: Yes, So the recipe for you, for the recipe for
- 40:49Speaker 2: Hallumi that you would have just got off this podcast
- 40:51Speaker 2: is milk, milk and champagne.
- 40:54Speaker 1: Yeah, that's right.
- 40:57Speaker 5: In the water bath.
- 40:58Speaker 1: Yeah all right, well, thank you, and you're welcome. Master chef.
- 41:04Speaker 1: Theme that is that Katie Perry song You're Hot than
- 41:07Speaker 1: You're Cold? Yes you no, all right.
- 41:11Speaker 5: You're squeaky cheek to go with your squeaky.
- 41:16Speaker 1: Nies, beautiful lover. I have to do foolish words for us,
- 41:29Speaker 1: and I'm going to say, in the context of what's
- 41:32Speaker 1: going on in New Zealand at the moment, this is
- 41:35Speaker 1: a quote from Where's westrom Mets coach commentating on a
- 41:39Speaker 1: close run thing and I think we're all on the
- 41:41Speaker 1: edge of our seats here and where's has it right?
- 41:43Speaker 1: When he said, well, that was a cliff dweller, So
- 41:47Speaker 1: what happens in New Zealand this week is going to
- 41:49Speaker 1: be a cliff dweller for us. But yeah, I only
- 41:52Speaker 1: do a really quick win beneath our wings. I'm sorry
- 41:54Speaker 1: I haven't feared this with the committee at all, but
- 41:57Speaker 1: I would like to nominate with La Garvey, who is
- 42:01Speaker 1: not only made of mine, but my coaching mentor for
- 42:03Speaker 1: this year. So when I was down on a number
- 42:06Speaker 1: of occasions, she was always very helpful to me in
- 42:09Speaker 1: looking at things that we could specifically do as a team.
- 42:12Speaker 1: She would come along early on a Saturday morning to
- 42:15Speaker 1: our games, and my game was at eight o'clock and
- 42:17Speaker 1: hers was at nine point thirty. So it's no small
- 42:20Speaker 1: thing to come along for an extra game just to
- 42:22Speaker 1: watch so you can give another coach some advice and support.
- 42:25Speaker 1: But Nicola Garvey, who is also the Gladeswell Ravens Coach
- 42:29Speaker 1: of the Year, you are the win beneath my wings.
- 42:32Speaker 1: And I've got a really shitty scrunchy for you here
- 42:36Speaker 1: to wear to sport on your lock.
- 42:39Speaker 5: So thank you, well done, beautiful.
- 42:42Speaker 2: I home, Well, what a chat?
- 42:44Speaker 1: What a chat?
- 42:44Speaker 2: I think?
- 42:45Speaker 1: So excited all week to get together and hasn't Disappointedstball.
- 42:49Speaker 3: We've spoken about in a while. It is it is
- 42:52Speaker 3: that was really all very good chat.
- 42:56Speaker 1: It is a classic though, isn't as soon as we
- 42:57Speaker 1: get off air stuff happens?
- 42:59Speaker 3: Oh yeah always Hey now I'm not here next week,
- 43:01Speaker 3: but I have a great recruit.
- 43:04Speaker 1: Make it a surprise. Let's everyone, Yeah, we've got a
- 43:07Speaker 1: special guest host.
- 43:08Speaker 3: Would you give us could you give us a hint? Yes,
- 43:10Speaker 3: it's not Sue Gaudium.
- 43:12Speaker 1: That's a really good hint.
- 43:13Speaker 5: That isn't good.
- 43:14Speaker 1: That narrows it down to only eight billion people.
- 43:17Speaker 3: But everyone would think, oh, it'll be Sue again, But
- 43:20Speaker 3: it's not.
- 43:20Speaker 1: I'm quite happy to accept speculation on the Facebook group
- 43:23Speaker 1: this week. Who you think our special guest host might be?
- 43:27Speaker 1: In Catherine's absence? And we've all got our fingers and
- 43:30Speaker 1: ties cross for you that the upgrade comes through Cath.
- 43:33Speaker 1: It won't don't be a long way to Dubai in
- 43:35Speaker 1: economy class at my height so and your height, it
- 43:39Speaker 1: will be l on earth.
- 43:41Speaker 3: Let me I will give you a clue as to
- 43:43Speaker 3: our guests for next week. We have mentioned their name
- 43:46Speaker 3: in this podcast today.
- 43:47Speaker 5: Oh we have to there you go. Can we talk
- 43:51Speaker 5: about Billy ray Cyrus.
- 43:53Speaker 3: Do you want, of all the people that you can manifest,
- 43:56Speaker 3: you want Billy ray Cyrus.
- 43:59Speaker 2: Don't know, It's just a name that popped into I
- 44:01Speaker 2: don't know why that popped into my head.
- 44:03Speaker 1: I don't know why it did either, but you've got
- 44:04Speaker 1: to say that would be an interesting episode. And our
- 44:06Speaker 1: special guest host is Billy ray Cyrus, as far as
- 44:09Speaker 1: we know, knows nothing about netball, so.
- 44:12Speaker 3: No, but he's got a naked, breaky heart.
- 44:17Speaker 1: All right, Well, I think that we've descended into the
- 44:19Speaker 1: ridiculous here. Who knows what's going to happen in the
- 44:22Speaker 1: next week of netball. You will stop caring as of
- 44:25Speaker 1: Wednesday when your wheels up. Have a great trip. We're
- 44:27Speaker 1: looking for hearing all about it when you get back.
- 44:30Speaker 1: But Lizzie and I'll be here next week with our
- 44:32Speaker 1: spirtial guest, not Billy ray Cyrus. Perhaps not Billy ray Cyrus.
- 44:37Speaker 5: I don't want to rule anybody in or out at
- 44:39Speaker 5: this point.
- 44:41Speaker 1: All right, every We'll have a great week. I'm Carolyn
- 44:43Speaker 1: Swindell Tatar.
- 44:44Speaker 3: Everybody go the Diamonds.
- 44:46Speaker 5: What's your name was, cath Cox?
- 44:47Speaker 2: Oh well sorry, And I'm the proud coach of the
- 44:51Speaker 2: mighty Headland Breakers Under fourteen's team and I'm a winner.
- 44:56Speaker 5: Well done, winners.
- 44:59Speaker 1: See you guys have a right way cartels, bye bye
- 45:01Speaker 1: bye m
- 45:07Speaker 3: Mm hmm
