- 2:00Speaker 3: the Taylor. All right, So coming up on the show
- 2:03Speaker 3: is when we're loaded up. We're already all of us
- 2:06Speaker 3: are wondering and eagerly anticipating what a Jim Justice Senate
- 2:09Speaker 3: seat is going to look like. He was elected last week,
- 2:11Speaker 3: of course, to the seat formerly occupied by Senator Joe Manchin.
- 2:14Speaker 3: An author by the name of Sarah O'Connor has written
- 2:18Speaker 3: a book about Baby Dog's trip to Washington. It's children's book,
- 2:22Speaker 3: and we're going to talk to her later on in
- 2:24Speaker 3: the show. Plus Brad mclhanny's going to join us. We're already,
- 2:28Speaker 3: I guess, jockeying for positions to see who the next
- 2:30Speaker 3: Senate president is going to be. We're going to weigh
- 2:33Speaker 3: and get to Brad's way in on that coming up.
- 2:35Speaker 3: And I told him after yesterday he would have the
- 2:38Speaker 3: day off, but unfortunately there have been more details that
- 2:41Speaker 3: have come forth in the playoff controversy. So Uncle Fred,
- 2:45Speaker 3: we told Fred Persinger I was not going to bring
- 2:47Speaker 3: him in the day. But guess what, Fred Persinger is
- 2:49Speaker 3: going to be on the show today because we've got
- 2:50Speaker 3: more developments in the last twelve hours in the playoff
- 2:53Speaker 3: controversy that is sports in West Virginia right now. So
- 2:55Speaker 3: we're bringing Fred to talk about that. As always your

- 3:08Speaker 3: whole city of Charleston practically will be lit up as
- 3:11Speaker 3: the Selango Law Firm presents the Light the Night. Starting
- 3:14Speaker 3: tomorrow night and going through the holiday season, we have
- 3:16Speaker 3: with us Andy Shay of the Charleston Dirty Birds. Good morning, sir,
- 3:19Speaker 3: how you do Dave? Welcome to the New Digs your
- 3:21Speaker 3: first appearance here. Yeah, man, appreciate it. And also Ben Selango,
- 3:25Speaker 3: who's been been here before. How are you kind of going?
- 3:27Speaker 5: Age?
- 3:28Speaker 3: I love it? This is nice. Of course it is
- 3:30Speaker 3: the Selango Lawlfe the Night. That's why mister County Commissioner
- 3:34Speaker 3: and Attorney Ben Selango is with us. Welcome h to,
- 3:38Speaker 3: Welcome to the show. Guys, Bigger, better, stronger, faster this
- 3:41Speaker 3: year Andy.
- 3:41Speaker 6: It is man all around. I mean, it looks absolutely amazing.
- 3:45Speaker 6: It's been you know, I mean it is a true
- 3:48Speaker 6: labor of love. I mean we've been talking about it,
- 3:50Speaker 6: Ben and I have been talking about our staff has
- 3:51Speaker 6: been talking about it what this year would look like
- 3:53Speaker 6: about three weeks into last year's event, and you know,
- 3:56Speaker 6: I mean seeing a lot of the things come to life,
- 3:59Speaker 6: seeing the the five hundred thousand extra lights, the you know,
- 4:03Speaker 6: pretty much tripling if not quadrupling, the amount of activity, activities,
- 4:08Speaker 6: rides inflatables and everything.
- 4:10Speaker 3: And then it still looks more open. I mean, and
- 4:12Speaker 3: that's what you know.
- 4:13Speaker 6: I kind of challenged everyone on our staff and our
- 4:16Speaker 6: crew to look at it like a piece of real
- 4:18Speaker 6: estate and how can you make it work the best?
- 4:20Speaker 6: And I mean I think it looks absolutely terrific.
- 4:23Speaker 3: It does indeed, and for a commissioner Slango or I
- 4:27Speaker 3: guess you're representing the Slango Law Firm today, I guess
- 4:29Speaker 3: that's okay. But but I do want to take it
- 4:32Speaker 3: from a you know, you guys on the county commission
- 4:35Speaker 3: are always looking at bringing as we say, heads in
- 4:37Speaker 3: beds and people to Knoll County, whether it exists or
- 4:39Speaker 3: whether it's for God or whatever, because that helps out
- 4:41Speaker 3: the county overall. Talk about the economic driver that this
- 4:45Speaker 3: could be. I mean, what we know what it was
- 4:47Speaker 3: last year and bigger better, It's going to be bigger
- 4:49Speaker 3: and better.
- 4:49Speaker 7: It'll be bigger this year, you know last year, and
- 4:51Speaker 7: you know forward thinking, you know Andy Shehay coming up
- 4:55Speaker 7: with this idea. I was sitting in the stands drinking
- 4:57Speaker 7: a beer and eating a hot dog, and he approached
- 4:59Speaker 7: me and he said, what do you think think? And
- 5:00Speaker 7: I said, I am absolutely in and not just in
- 5:03Speaker 7: for one year. I want a multi year, dear, because
- 5:04Speaker 7: I knew it was going to blow up. Now, I
- 5:05Speaker 7: did not realize it was going to be as big
- 5:07Speaker 7: as it was, quite frankly, and I don't.
- 5:09Speaker 3: Know if Andy did either. It just kind of happened that way.
- 5:12Speaker 7: But you know, the city of Charleston turf that field
- 5:15Speaker 7: Mayor Goodwin to make sure that it could be used
- 5:17Speaker 7: year round, which was key. Otherwise it would be over
- 5:20Speaker 7: there and to be grass and everything we need dorm it.
- 5:22Speaker 7: But what we have now is you've got an economic hub.
- 5:25Speaker 7: Over one hundred thousand people came through last year from
- 5:27Speaker 7: over forty different states.
- 5:29Speaker 3: You know.
- 5:29Speaker 7: The goal this year is to hit all fifty. I
- 5:31Speaker 7: want people from Alaska and Hawaii to come into. What
- 5:34Speaker 7: you're going to see is people coming in for the
- 5:35Speaker 7: holidays to visit family, you know, Thanksgiving, Christmas and they're
- 5:38Speaker 7: going to go there. I probably went there and this
- 5:41Speaker 7: is no exaggeration. I probably went twenty times last year,
- 5:44Speaker 7: and last night I went for the first time just
- 5:46Speaker 7: to kind of preview, and it looks different. Everything is new.
- 5:50Speaker 7: There are things that you're going to see that that
- 5:51Speaker 7: weren't there last year. So the key get your tickets online. Yeah,
- 5:56Speaker 7: so you don't want to you don't want to wait
- 5:57Speaker 7: in line, or you want to get them. You want
- 5:58Speaker 7: to get them before you get there. So that's a
- 6:00Speaker 7: Dblightthnight dot com.
- 6:02Speaker 8: You got it.
- 6:03Speaker 3: That is that is critical.
- 6:04Speaker 7: So you can bypass the line, come right in, spend
- 6:07Speaker 7: that time in and join the lights instead of waiting.
- 6:09Speaker 7: So you know, any and them really hit it out
- 6:11Speaker 7: the park. This year pun completely intact, and I think
- 6:15Speaker 7: when people come in again for the first time, they're
- 6:18Speaker 7: going to be as excited as I was last night.
- 6:20Speaker 3: I mean it was it was incredible last year and
- 6:23Speaker 3: everybody talked about it, you know. And again when you start,
- 6:27Speaker 3: when you undergo a project like that, uh, you don't
- 6:30Speaker 3: know what you don't know, you know, and so you
- 6:32Speaker 3: get in and said this worked, this didn't you know?
- 6:33Speaker 3: This worked? But you've tripled what worked last year. There
- 6:36Speaker 3: are very few things that didn't work last year, Eddie.
- 6:38Speaker 3: But but but what did really did? And uh, and
- 6:41Speaker 3: you've tripled You've quadrupled it in many cases. I know,
- 6:43Speaker 3: I was talking to a Jay Silverman back over the
- 6:45Speaker 3: summer and I said, you're trying to hang a light set.
- 6:47Speaker 3: He said, yeah, yeah, we have. Yeah, I mean pretty much.
- 6:50Speaker 6: I mean, you know, it's it's certainly a twelve month
- 6:53Speaker 6: thought process. But then in terms of the actual installation,
- 6:55Speaker 6: I mean our crew and our staff here is you know,
- 6:58Speaker 6: second and nine. I mean, this is my twentieth year
- 6:59Speaker 6: and the industry and I've never seen a more hard working, intelligent,
- 7:03Speaker 6: just passionate about what they're doing, care about the results
- 7:07Speaker 6: staff than we've seen here. So I mean it's and
- 7:10Speaker 6: you know, being able to see it kind of as
- 7:12Speaker 6: a soft opening first, like time putting all the lights
- 7:15Speaker 6: on at the same time last night. I mean, it
- 7:17Speaker 6: was it was breathtaking. I mean it still kind of
- 7:20Speaker 6: mesmerizes you just you know, you start looking at one thing,
- 7:23Speaker 6: then you look at another thing, and you know, just
- 7:25Speaker 6: seeing and thinking about last year. Just like Ben said,
- 7:28Speaker 6: I mean, there are certain you know, certainly some similarities,
- 7:32Speaker 6: but it is a completely different layout, it's a completely
- 7:35Speaker 6: different set of activities, and you know, with some of
- 7:38Speaker 6: the staples, I mean, the ferris wheel is still absolutely amazing,
- 7:41Speaker 6: the first ride on that I'm sure will be twenty
- 7:43Speaker 6: five pictures for everyone that goes on there, but you know,
- 7:47Speaker 6: adding the carousel, adding the round up ride, doubling and
- 7:50Speaker 6: tripling some of the inflatables and other offerings along those lines,
- 7:55Speaker 6: and then still being able to kind of, you know,
- 7:57Speaker 6: from what we learned last year, because yeah, I kept joking,
- 8:00Speaker 6: I wouldn't have done it, or wouldn't have thought up
- 8:01Speaker 6: with the idea for anything it would do well, but
- 8:03Speaker 6: probably wasn't expecting that level.
- 8:06Speaker 3: So now we've got a lot more.
- 8:08Speaker 6: Excessive like literal accessibility when you're in there, to be
- 8:11Speaker 6: able to view and just enjoy every part about it.
- 8:14Speaker 3: And I will tell you that, you know, the Dirty
- 8:16Speaker 3: Birds always do a fantastic job in their social media
- 8:19Speaker 3: year round, whether it's in season or out. And if
- 8:21Speaker 3: you want to go and you want to see, some
- 8:22Speaker 3: of the pictures really don't do it justice, but there
- 8:25Speaker 3: are some great pictures to see what it looks like
- 8:27Speaker 3: on the Dirty birds Face Facebook page. Dave Allen showing
- 8:30Speaker 3: five Indy Line brought to you apart by Husband's Pizza
- 8:32Speaker 3: this month that Hustin's get a large aten inch pepperoni
- 8:34Speaker 3: pizza and a pizza dia only twenty one ninety nine.
- 8:38Speaker 3: So it officially opens to the public tomorrow night. I
- 8:40Speaker 3: was talking to one of my coworkers my office made
- 8:43Speaker 3: up there. She said, yeah, I went last night and
- 8:44Speaker 3: I said that then you were trespassing, and well she said, no,
- 8:48Speaker 3: we just I guess she was out with some people
- 8:51Speaker 3: and you know, they just kind of peeked their head
- 8:52Speaker 3: in a little bit. I know there's a I think
- 8:54Speaker 3: a VIP thing tonight, but officially opens to the public
- 8:56Speaker 3: tomorrow night.
- 8:57Speaker 6: And what are the dates, And we'll be open November
- 8:59Speaker 6: fifteen through January first, every night except Christmas Day. So
- 9:04Speaker 6: the dates are pretty pretty set, pretty straightforward. But all
- 9:08Speaker 6: other information in terms of times, in terms of tickets,
- 9:11Speaker 6: in terms of the different packages and when to come,
- 9:14Speaker 6: and the expanded hours for the ice skating and for
- 9:17Speaker 6: the ice bumper cars, all of that can be found
- 9:20Speaker 6: on dblightthenight dot com, on our dirty Birds website or
- 9:24Speaker 6: just like you said earlier, plenty of information on our
- 9:27Speaker 6: social media channel.
- 9:28Speaker 3: You guys do a great job with that, and we
- 9:29Speaker 3: had a texture. Somebody said how much.
- 9:31Speaker 6: Well, I mean, that's the thing that I'm really proud about.
- 9:34Speaker 6: We did not raise our ticket prices, and we did
- 9:37Speaker 6: make sure that it is less expensive when they purchase
- 9:40Speaker 6: it in advance, so you know, it varies on child adults,
- 9:45Speaker 6: what day of the week, but everything is in the
- 9:48Speaker 6: ten dollars range and you know, very very accessible right
- 9:52Speaker 6: there online.
- 9:52Speaker 3: So yeah, I was gonna say there is a discount
- 9:55Speaker 3: if you do get your tickets off line, and that's
- 9:56Speaker 3: because of the sheer volume of people. That's kind of
- 10:00Speaker 3: a convenience for you folks too, because it's because of
- 10:03Speaker 3: the sheer volume of the number of people that come
- 10:05Speaker 3: into this. And I'll promise you what's going to happen.
- 10:07Speaker 3: Right now. It's pouring the rain, which thank god, because
- 10:09Speaker 3: we need the rain in West Virginia. I won't complain
- 10:11Speaker 3: about rain. But once we get the first snow, even
- 10:14Speaker 3: if it's a couple of flurries here and there, you know,
- 10:16Speaker 3: in a week or two or two, whenever it happens,
- 10:19Speaker 3: you're going to see a whole lot of people go
- 10:20Speaker 3: over there because there's nothing like seeing the lights with it,
- 10:22Speaker 3: even if it's just a spit of snow kind of
- 10:24Speaker 3: adds to the ambiance.
- 10:26Speaker 7: It's gonna be packed, particularly when you start seeing the snow.
- 10:29Speaker 7: But you know, it's funny because Andy and I would
- 10:30Speaker 7: set out. I would set in the entrance and I
- 10:33Speaker 7: would watch people's faces that they as they came in,
- 10:35Speaker 7: and whether it was the kids seeing it for the
- 10:37Speaker 7: first time or some of the nursing homes that brought
- 10:39Speaker 7: their residence over them seeing it. It's heartwarming. And I
- 10:44Speaker 7: kept checking in with Andy because the lines were around
- 10:47Speaker 7: the stadium, and I would say, how many of we
- 10:50Speaker 7: bring in this light? And each night they were breaking records.
- 10:53Speaker 7: And I think it will do the same thing this
- 10:55Speaker 7: year because people had such a great experience last year
- 10:58Speaker 7: and it's bigger and better. So for the next month
- 11:01Speaker 7: and a half. You are not allowed to say there's
- 11:03Speaker 7: nothing to do in Charlie.
- 11:04Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 11:04Speaker 3: Now, well you'll never hear me say that anyway, Commissioner,
- 11:07Speaker 3: because there's always and especially when you bring in the
- 11:10Speaker 3: entire Knaw Valley. I mean, there's always several several things.
- 11:13Speaker 7: Well, you've got seen Aubans during their lights, coon skin,
- 11:15Speaker 7: there's so many different places that are doing it, and
- 11:18Speaker 7: including downtown Charleston. So we've connected the Brawley Walkway, which
- 11:22Speaker 7: there's a lot going on, and the ballpark with the
- 11:26Speaker 7: get this Holly Jolly Brawley trolley which will take you
- 11:29Speaker 7: back and forth, so you can if you want to
- 11:31Speaker 7: go downtown and see all the Christmas trees, they've got
- 11:33Speaker 7: all the businesses that are set up the trees, and
- 11:35Speaker 7: then jump on the trolley and come over to the ballpark.
- 11:38Speaker 7: You can get there that way and it will take
- 11:40Speaker 7: you back. So there's a lot of there's a lot
- 11:43Speaker 7: going on between the ballpark and downtown.
- 11:45Speaker 3: And he are you good to take a call? Because
- 11:47Speaker 3: somebody asked if they could ask you a question you
- 11:49Speaker 3: could love to or put your headphones on there so
- 11:51Speaker 3: you can hear the call. So Ryan, if you're ready,
- 11:53Speaker 3: just give Ryan a second there, I mean to go ahead.
- 11:56Speaker 3: We're still working on communication, so we're we're using a
- 12:02Speaker 3: rudimentary way of communicating right now. So Ryan, if you
- 12:05Speaker 3: want to go ahead and uh uh and put that
- 12:07Speaker 3: caller through, we'll take him. Go ahead, all right, you're
- 12:12Speaker 3: on with Andy Sha go ahead.
- 12:14Speaker 5: Have you given to talk to open up a gate?
- 12:17Speaker 5: On the third base side. Uh, there's a building trade
- 12:20Speaker 5: that's got a building up there and that would open
- 12:23Speaker 5: up a lot of parking for Union Labor.
- 12:27Speaker 3: Okay.
- 12:28Speaker 6: In terms of open up the gate, we certainly have. Yes,
- 12:31Speaker 6: that's something that was a top priority. Uh, in terms
- 12:34Speaker 6: of having true you know, accessibility into the ballpark so
- 12:37Speaker 6: on weekends, that is something that we are certainly looking into.
- 12:42Speaker 6: And yes, the more ways to enter and exit and
- 12:45Speaker 6: enjoy the experience the.
- 12:47Speaker 3: Better for us.
- 12:49Speaker 5: That mean you're going up for baseball.
- 12:53Speaker 6: Well for baseball. We got a little while toil we
- 12:54Speaker 6: start thinking about that. But yes, that's certainly something that
- 12:57Speaker 6: and we did have it. I mean it was open
- 12:58Speaker 6: up I think at least half the time this year.
- 13:00Speaker 6: So that's something that in terms of getting the infrastructure
- 13:03Speaker 6: for the ticket box and all that good stuff. But yes,
- 13:05Speaker 6: that's something that we were constantly talking about and we did.
- 13:08Speaker 6: I believe we did about half the times this last season.
- 13:11Speaker 5: Make sure help you and Labor get into the ballpark.
- 13:14Speaker 3: All right, we appreciate your call. Thanks a lot. It
- 13:17Speaker 3: is nine to twenty guys. I know you guys got
- 13:19Speaker 3: a busy schedule. You kind of made you rounds around
- 13:20Speaker 3: all the stations here today, so we'll let you go
- 13:22Speaker 3: and we've got your scheduled several times throughout the holiday season.
- 13:25Speaker 3: Commissioner Selango hats off to the Selango Law Firm for
- 13:29Speaker 3: Green to put your name on and to sponsor this,
- 13:32Speaker 3: and it's just a great way to get back to
- 13:33Speaker 3: the community. I appreciate this was an easy one. Yeah,
- 13:36Speaker 3: this what's easy? All right? Uh Andy, So tomorrow night
- 13:39Speaker 3: we'll we be opening up over there. It's going to
- 13:41Speaker 3: be a great, great holiday season at the ballpark. We're pumped,
- 13:44Speaker 3: We're ready.
- 13:44Speaker 6: Man, it's and talk about how much of a gift
- 13:47Speaker 6: it is for me now that I have two opening
- 13:49Speaker 6: days every year.
- 13:51Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, or more well, of course that I mean
- 13:56Speaker 3: the first day of baseball season, first day of light,
- 13:58Speaker 3: the night I mean it is. Yeah, I mean I'm
- 14:00Speaker 3: the kid rate waiting for Christmas. Literally. All right, Andy,
- 14:04Speaker 3: shave the dirty birds, Ben Selango, I appreciate you being
- 14:07Speaker 3: here as well. Thanks a lot, guess. The Dave Allen
- 14:09Speaker 3: Showing five any Live is brought to you in part
- 14:11Speaker 3: by Meek's Realty Group, where Rich the realtor is always

- 17:19Speaker 3: Lots going on here this morning Tomorrow's show. We're going
- 17:21Speaker 3: to take time. The time that We normally would have
- 17:24Speaker 3: to talk with Chris Lawrence and Tom Bragg to preview
- 17:26Speaker 3: high school football. We're going to preview high school football
- 17:28Speaker 3: court cases instead, coming up on tomorrow's show. Plus and
- 17:32Speaker 3: a gardener from the Gnaal Charles and UMaine Association with
- 17:35Speaker 3: this week's Adopt Me Please Better the Week, and doctor
- 17:37Speaker 3: Casey Sacksonbridge Valley, all coming up on tomorrow's show. There's
- 17:40Speaker 3: been a lot of talk lately about Governor Jim Justice
- 17:43Speaker 3: now becoming Senator Jim Justice, and we don't know exactly
- 17:46Speaker 3: what that whole thing is going to look like to
- 17:48Speaker 3: be determined. I guess there is a local author though,
- 17:50Speaker 3: by the name of doctor Sarah O'Connor who's written a
- 17:52Speaker 3: book called Baby Dog Goes to Washington, and it's a
- 17:55Speaker 3: children's book aim at teaching kids about the government. And
- 17:58Speaker 3: she's with us this morning. Sarah to welcome to the show.
- 18:01Speaker 13: Hi, thank you for having me.
- 18:02Speaker 3: It just was pointed out by the Commissioner Selango that
- 18:06Speaker 3: your name, he said, where do I know that name?
- 18:07Speaker 3: Was a character and terminator.
- 18:09Speaker 13: Yes, I've been hearing that since middle school.
- 18:11Speaker 3: I shouldn't say you've probably never heard that before, right
- 18:14Speaker 3: The first time today. That's the first thing he said
- 18:16Speaker 3: was he said, where do I know that name? I said, well,
- 18:17Speaker 3: you just met her upstairs. She said no, no, from
- 18:19Speaker 3: somewhere else. And yeah, so of so you just get
- 18:22Speaker 3: that's something you gotta live with. I guess, right, So
- 18:25Speaker 3: what let you write this book? Baby Dog goes to Washington.
- 18:28Speaker 13: So after the primary when Justice was the Republican nominee,
- 18:34Speaker 13: it was we sort of figured it was pretty good
- 18:37Speaker 13: chance that he was going to Washington, and I thought
- 18:39Speaker 13: it would be a great chance to raise some money
- 18:43Speaker 13: for charity, because all the profits from this book go
- 18:45Speaker 13: to charity, but also educate kids about sort of how
- 18:49Speaker 13: government works and how Washington works and the three branches,
- 18:53Speaker 13: and just use it as a chance because Baby Dog's
- 18:56Speaker 13: got such a following, have her help educate it's.
- 19:01Speaker 3: And I think that's something that's very important to point
- 19:03Speaker 3: out here, is because when I first I was when
- 19:06Speaker 3: your folks reached out to me about this, I didn't
- 19:08Speaker 3: know exactly what kind of book it was going to be.
- 19:09Speaker 3: And I, you know, read some experts of it last night,
- 19:11Speaker 3: looked around at the press release and whatever. You know,
- 19:13Speaker 3: this is not a it is a book about Baby dog.
- 19:16Speaker 3: But it's not really about baby dog. It's about the
- 19:18Speaker 3: whole governmental process. Talk about that, right.
- 19:21Speaker 13: Well, she starts she's going on at adventure and she
- 19:23Speaker 13: starts in West Virginia and it's very pro West Virginia
- 19:27Speaker 13: shows there's a picture of her with the newerver Gorge
- 19:30Speaker 13: Bridge and she loves her home. But she's going to Washington,
- 19:34Speaker 13: and she talks about all the things she wants to see,
- 19:36Speaker 13: the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument, and it describes
- 19:41Speaker 13: what those things are, and then it talks about the
- 19:43Speaker 13: people she wants to meet, like the justices of the
- 19:46Speaker 13: Supreme Court. And so there's a picture that shows all
- 19:50Speaker 13: and names all of the current justices of the Supreme
- 19:52Speaker 13: Court and then Congress and then it shows a little
- 19:56Speaker 13: thing where it's clear that there are three branches of
- 19:58Speaker 13: government that balance each other. And so it's just it
- 20:02Speaker 13: does there's real value in the educational component of it.
- 20:06Speaker 3: Yeah, And I'm a big believer in civics and teaching
- 20:09Speaker 3: civic And the earlier that you teach kids this the better.
- 20:13Speaker 3: What what's the age group that would this would be
- 20:15Speaker 3: ideal for or does it really matter?
- 20:18Speaker 13: You know, it doesn't really matter. I think there are
- 20:20Speaker 13: lots of people that don't fully understand our government systems.
- 20:23Speaker 3: And you make one for adults because that'd be good
- 20:25Speaker 3: for them too.
- 20:27Speaker 13: Well, it's a cute book, and you know, maybe you're
- 20:29Speaker 13: reading it to your kid and you pick up something
- 20:31Speaker 13: about government.
- 20:32Speaker 3: You can't hurt, can't hurt. And we should mention that
- 20:35Speaker 3: all the proceeds from the book are going toward West
- 20:37Speaker 3: Virginia based charities. Can you tell us about that?
- 20:40Speaker 13: Yes, West Virginia based charities are what I want to
- 20:43Speaker 13: focus on. I don't know how much the money the
- 20:46Speaker 13: book is going to make, and so I don't have
- 20:49Speaker 13: real distinct plans yet. I do know the Greenbrier Valley
- 20:52Speaker 13: Humane Society is one of the charities, and we'll wait
- 20:56Speaker 13: and see how much it makes. I don't even know
- 20:57Speaker 13: if it's going to I think.
- 20:58Speaker 3: You sold one upstairs? Did you not still about Andy
- 21:00Speaker 3: Shay bought one. I don't know why Selango didn't buy one.
- 21:03Speaker 3: I'll make sure I'll get at figured postcards. So okay,
- 21:06Speaker 3: give you a postcard, QR coach. So I was gonna say,
- 21:08Speaker 3: where are the books available? What's your primary way of
- 21:10Speaker 3: putting them out there to people?
- 21:11Speaker 13: So baby Dog goes to Washington dot Com is our
- 21:14Speaker 13: website and you can buy it there. We're also approaching bookstores.
- 21:19Speaker 13: Some have indicated that they'd like to carry it, so
- 21:22Speaker 13: but I'm not sure it's on any shelves yet.
- 21:24Speaker 3: Okay, but it will be. But the website's the way
- 21:26Speaker 3: to do it.
- 21:27Speaker 13: Pretty Much everyone I approached is pretty enthusiastic about it.
- 21:30Speaker 13: Baby Dog has a big following.
- 21:33Speaker 3: I don't know that West Virginia has ever seen a character,
- 21:37Speaker 3: a critter or you know that's taken off like Baby
- 21:41Speaker 3: Dog has. I mean, because you know Jim Justice, I
- 21:44Speaker 3: don't know exactly how old Baby Dog is. You may
- 21:46Speaker 3: know this, but Baby Dog did not. Was not part
- 21:48Speaker 3: of the first Gym Justice campaign, you know, when he
- 21:50Speaker 3: ran for governor back in twenty sixteen. But somewhere Baby
- 21:53Speaker 3: Dog evolved into this mythical character. And even people across
- 21:59Speaker 3: the the nation and the world that people that couldn't
- 22:02Speaker 3: find West Virginia on a map and think that we're
- 22:04Speaker 3: somewhere near Roanoak, can they can relate to Baby Dog?
- 22:08Speaker 13: They know Baby Dog. Baby Dog was on stage of
- 22:10Speaker 13: the RNC. She was all the late night hosts talked
- 22:14Speaker 13: about her. So yeah, she's got a following.
- 22:17Speaker 3: Yeah, indeed she does. Again, we're talking with doctor Sarah
- 22:19Speaker 3: O'Connor about this book called Baby Dog Goes to Washington.
- 22:23Speaker 3: We'll give out that website again a little bit later
- 22:25Speaker 3: on the Dave Island showing five Any Live is brought
- 22:27Speaker 3: to you part by Pinnacle Consultants. There Lead pain Inspection
- 22:30Speaker 3: and Risk Assessment services are designed to identify and to
- 22:32Speaker 3: assess the presence of lead based pained buildings and other
- 22:35Speaker 3: structures using a three phase approach of inspection, sampling and
- 22:39Speaker 3: lab analysis and assessment report. Visit Pinnacle Corp dot net.
- 22:42Speaker 3: Because what you don't know can hurt you. And as
- 22:45Speaker 3: I mentioned earlier, it's teaching kids about civics and about things.
- 22:50Speaker 3: I mean, it's so so important because somebody told me
- 22:53Speaker 3: one time and again this is not I'm not picking
- 22:55Speaker 3: on kids. This is a lot of adults too. We
- 22:57Speaker 3: have more ways to get information now, but yet our
- 23:00Speaker 3: society seems to not know as much.
- 23:03Speaker 13: Yeah, and teaching kids just the facts about government, but
- 23:07Speaker 13: then also critical thinking skills like gather your information and
- 23:11Speaker 13: then consider all the sources, consider how reliable the sources are,
- 23:16Speaker 13: and then make up your own mind and I think
- 23:18Speaker 13: that critical thinking piece is so crucial for education, and
- 23:23Speaker 13: it might be getting lost a little bit.
- 23:25Speaker 3: And so got a text here it says I'm on
- 23:28Speaker 3: my planning period and as a fourth grade teacher who
- 23:31Speaker 3: teaches the three branches of government, I'm so excited for
- 23:33Speaker 3: this book. This is something that can help them relate
- 23:36Speaker 3: their lives to it. By the way, fourth grade is
- 23:39Speaker 3: the age they begin learning about the branches of government.
- 23:42Speaker 3: And I will be purchasing one perfect And.
- 23:44Speaker 13: If you'd like me to come to a reading in
- 23:45Speaker 13: your school, be in touch. You can be on the
- 23:48Speaker 13: website and you have a contact there's a contact box there,
- 23:51Speaker 13: And if you'd like me to read in your school,
- 23:53Speaker 13: I would love that because I want to get this
- 23:55Speaker 13: in front of.
- 23:55Speaker 3: Kids, okay, And you have a wonderful voice for reading too,
- 23:58Speaker 3: so I think that would be great, you know. And Sarah,
- 24:01Speaker 3: I'm always interested when I talk to authors to learn
- 24:04Speaker 3: about their writing style. This is more about you, a
- 24:06Speaker 3: little bit less about the book. Are you personal who
- 24:09Speaker 3: just sits down and writes all at one time? Do
- 24:11Speaker 3: you write a little bit at a time. What's your
- 24:12Speaker 3: particular writing style?
- 24:14Speaker 13: I probably write and then edit and edit and edit
- 24:18Speaker 13: and edit.
- 24:20Speaker 3: But do you edit?
- 24:21Speaker 13: What do I add?
- 24:22Speaker 2: But do you?
- 24:23Speaker 3: But do you ad? It was a little attempty humor
- 24:25Speaker 3: on my part.
- 24:25Speaker 13: Oh, yes, for sure. Just improve your wording because I
- 24:30Speaker 13: write other things.
- 24:30Speaker 14: I write.
- 24:31Speaker 3: I do medical writers, and that's what I wanted to
- 24:33Speaker 3: talk to you. That was the next thing I want
- 24:34Speaker 3: to let's learn about you. Let's talk about doctor Sarah O'Connor.
- 24:37Speaker 13: Uh So, I'm an ophthalmologist, but I don't practice ophthalmology.
- 24:41Speaker 13: I work in public I also have a master's in
- 24:44Speaker 13: public health, and so I do medical writing and data analysis.
- 24:47Speaker 13: But then I also work in global eye care because
- 24:51Speaker 13: I work with organizations that are working to build ee
- 24:54Speaker 13: care capacity in the developing world. I do a lot
- 24:56Speaker 13: of work in Honduras, but then I also do a
- 24:59Speaker 13: lot of work with another or organization that works all
- 25:01Speaker 13: around the world helping train off themologists.
- 25:03Speaker 3: And you're in your ties to West Virginia. You're a
- 25:05Speaker 3: West Virginia here a group? What part of West Virginia
- 25:07Speaker 3: you're from Charleston? Oh, okay, went to firm Bank. Okay,
- 25:10Speaker 3: right here, right here in Charles. Can't get more West
- 25:12Speaker 3: Virginia than that. You know, you're writing a book about
- 25:14Speaker 3: the and I have a text here. It says, Dave,
- 25:16Speaker 3: baby dog will always be an icon forever. I bought
- 25:19Speaker 3: my book from Amazon, says a text.
- 25:22Speaker 13: Where money will go to charity if you buy it
- 25:23Speaker 13: from our website.
- 25:24Speaker 3: But it's okay, so and to give give the website again.
- 25:28Speaker 13: Doctor Www dot Baby Dog goes to Washington dot com.
- 25:31Speaker 13: It's long, but it's easy.
- 25:32Speaker 3: To remember, all right. Do you anticipate that if this
- 25:35Speaker 3: book is a huge success, which based on you know,
- 25:38Speaker 3: you sold one upstairs in the green room, Dandy Shay,
- 25:40Speaker 3: the owner of the Dirty Birds, This person texted in
- 25:43Speaker 3: and then we had a text from a teacher that
- 25:44Speaker 3: bought one. So so do you anticipate there could be
- 25:47Speaker 3: a second book? Oh, baby dog comes home, Baby Dog.
- 25:51Speaker 13: Goes to Congress. Baby dog goes to the White House.
- 25:54Speaker 13: Baby dog sniffs out hypocrisy. Who knows?
- 25:56Speaker 3: I love it? I love it, I love it. Baby
- 25:59Speaker 3: dog goes on a search for chicken nuggets, because everybody
- 26:01Speaker 3: knows that's kind of a baby dogs thing. Is a
- 26:03Speaker 3: chicken mesk.
- 26:03Speaker 13: See, i've never met baby dog.
- 26:05Speaker 3: You've never met baby dog. Well, I know the folks
- 26:07Speaker 3: at the Governor's office listen to this show every day.
- 26:10Speaker 3: So all right, here is your opportunity for a photo
- 26:14Speaker 3: op and I'll play little media marketing you know. Here
- 26:16Speaker 3: we'll try to get you over there with the with
- 26:18Speaker 3: Governor Justice before he takes off the Washington get him
- 26:21Speaker 3: a get baby dog there in the office. Because I
- 26:23Speaker 3: don't know if you know this or not there, but
- 26:25Speaker 3: the baby dog got a little bit of bad news
- 26:27Speaker 3: this week. The baby dog cannot go on the floor.
- 26:29Speaker 13: Baby dog's not allowed on the Senate floor. But my
- 26:31Speaker 13: hunch is she'll be a lot of places in DC.
- 26:33Speaker 3: She will be, she'll be in the whole country. Well,
- 26:36Speaker 3: I mean, we we're already seeing it being picked up
- 26:38Speaker 3: by national media, but we'll see even more than doctor
- 26:40Speaker 3: Sarah Connor. I appreciate you being here. The book it's
- 26:42Speaker 3: called Baby Dog Goes to Washington. Give out that website.
- 26:46Speaker 13: Again, www dot Baby Dog goes to Washington dot com.
- 26:49Speaker 3: All right, it sounds good. Good luck with the book.

- 31:51Speaker 9: A man's love above and beyond for his dog, that's
- 31:57Speaker 9: probably a fair game for some ribbing. I think you're on.

- 32:03Speaker 3: Well, I've got a nice little postcard from doctor Sarah O'Connor,
- 32:07Speaker 3: who's writing the book Baby Dog Goes to Washington. She
- 32:09Speaker 3: was my last guest. Hope she had a chance to
- 32:11Speaker 3: hear the interview, Brad, but she sent me a nice
- 32:13Speaker 3: she or she gave me a nice little postcard to
- 32:15Speaker 3: go along. I will be sending this along to you
- 32:17Speaker 3: because it's got a QR code and you can purchase
- 32:19Speaker 3: your very own copy.
- 32:21Speaker 9: Mister mac so of a good stocking stuffer to me.
- 32:25Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely, absolutely all right. So in wrestling, Brad my
- 32:29Speaker 3: one of my former careers, they call it a three
- 32:31Speaker 3: way dance. In quarner one, you have sent a finance sheer,
- 32:34Speaker 3: Eric Tard, Corner two you have Senator Randy Smith, and
- 32:37Speaker 3: in corner three we have the majority leader, Tom Takubo.
- 32:41Speaker 3: Good problem to have, I guess when you have three
- 32:43Speaker 3: powerful guys who want to all take charge of the
- 32:45Speaker 3: Senates weigh in on that.
- 32:49Speaker 9: Well, so there are thirty two people who get to
- 32:52Speaker 9: make this choice, and the fact that there are three
- 32:56Speaker 9: up for it makes it a little bit difficult because
- 32:58Speaker 9: somebody's got to get a majority, right, And so I'm
- 33:01Speaker 9: not necessarily saying I'm not weighing in on whether it's
- 33:05Speaker 9: difficult among those personalities, but the fact that there are
- 33:09Speaker 9: three makes the mathematics of a majority kind of a challenge.
- 33:16Speaker 9: One way that this could be straightened out is that
- 33:20Speaker 9: my understanding, the first round of the voting among the
- 33:23Speaker 9: thirty two members of the Senate Supermajority Caucus will be
- 33:27Speaker 9: December eighth, probably in the evening during legislative interims. I
- 33:31Speaker 9: believe it's a Sunday, and they're going to go behind
- 33:35Speaker 9: closed doors, and I think it'll be a secret ballot,
- 33:38Speaker 9: but they will do an initial round of voting. And
- 33:43Speaker 9: the way I understand the rules that they've carved out
- 33:45Speaker 9: for themselves, whoever comes in third is then eliminated from
- 33:51Speaker 9: contention like a game show, and presumably they're you know,
- 33:57Speaker 9: would naturally be redistributed to others. Even so, you know,
- 34:02Speaker 9: I'm not clear yet on whether anybody is truly able
- 34:08Speaker 9: to get a majority. And I will also share it
- 34:14Speaker 9: just between me and you, Dave us. This is a
- 34:17Speaker 9: political family that we're talking about, and you know, they
- 34:22Speaker 9: they tell you how they see things within their perception
- 34:27Speaker 9: of how it is. But if you the theoretically objective
- 34:32Speaker 9: listener get the view of several of the members of
- 34:40Speaker 9: this political family. Uh, it is very much like the
- 34:46Speaker 9: blind Man and the Elephant, like all right, So somebody
- 34:49Speaker 9: told me that to Kubo is within striking distance, just
- 34:54Speaker 9: exactly right there. Somebody else told me that Smith is
- 34:57Speaker 9: within striking distance both of those camps. The TAR has
- 35:01Speaker 9: the fewest. Tar's camp then disputes or the Tar has
- 35:05Speaker 9: the fewest. So it's very hard to gauge from the
- 35:08Speaker 9: outside in what the potential fluidity of this situation is.
- 35:16Speaker 9: But nevertheless, it's it is. It is a three way race.
- 35:22Speaker 9: And as someone who has talked to many of the
- 35:24Speaker 9: people who will be making the vote deciding this matter,
- 35:28Speaker 9: I came out of it, you know, kind of unsatisfactory,
- 35:31Speaker 9: not very clear on who can be the winner in
- 35:33Speaker 9: the end.
- 35:34Speaker 3: So the question, I guess, Brad could be asked, maybe
- 35:38Speaker 3: for people who don't follow this and have lives and
- 35:41Speaker 3: don't you know, and their lives don't depend on this,
- 35:43Speaker 3: it could be why exactly do we need a Senate
- 35:45Speaker 3: president and what are their roles?
- 35:47Speaker 9: Now?
- 35:47Speaker 3: Obviously we see them up there with the gavel, but
- 35:49Speaker 3: talk about some of the other roles. That is Sentate President,
- 35:52Speaker 3: what they're or it's pretty much the same as the
- 35:54Speaker 3: House speakers. Well, what are their roles other than just
- 35:57Speaker 3: banging a gavel?
- 35:58Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean it's important in general because they will
- 36:03Speaker 9: be the focal point of setting, you know, the Senate's
- 36:07Speaker 9: emphasis running bills, and that'll be part of a team,
- 36:11Speaker 9: but they're going to be at the center of these
- 36:13Speaker 9: decisions what bills are run, the flavor of those bills.
- 36:18Speaker 9: Who is on the leadership team with them, who leads committees,
- 36:24Speaker 9: The committee chairs themselves have a great deal of power
- 36:27Speaker 9: over what bills run and therefore what policies West Virginia
- 36:31Speaker 9: ends up with. And then finally there's this you know,
- 36:36Speaker 9: sort of soft power role, but it's the governor will
- 36:41Speaker 9: receive most of the attention in terms of being the
- 36:46Speaker 9: lead communicator for the state, but the House Speaker and
- 36:49Speaker 9: the Senate President also have roles. I mean, you think
- 36:53Speaker 9: of the times that you saw Mitch Carmichael speaking on
- 36:56Speaker 9: behalf of the stage when he's the Senate President. Craig
- 36:59Speaker 9: Blad either you know, talking on one of our programs
- 37:05Speaker 9: or speaking at a groundbreaking or a new business has
- 37:10Speaker 9: come to town and they're breaking ground, or there is
- 37:15Speaker 9: a gathering of dignitaries from some other country. Those are
- 37:22Speaker 9: all things that the Senate President winds up doing and
- 37:25Speaker 9: therefore representing the Senate of the state in their words
- 37:29Speaker 9: and their demeanor. So even though it is a family
- 37:33Speaker 9: decision by this group of thirty two senators in the supermajority,
- 37:38Speaker 9: it's it's a decision that's going to affect the rest
- 37:41Speaker 9: of the state well.
- 37:42Speaker 3: And I think it's also Brad very important to point
- 37:47Speaker 3: out that have been the Senate president of the last
- 37:50Speaker 3: two Centate presidents ain't exactly job security, okay, because Craig
- 37:55Speaker 3: Blair got beat. It's Carmichael got b Bill Cole opted
- 37:59Speaker 3: to go run for something else. So it's not exactly
- 38:01Speaker 3: like if you are the Senate President, you are going
- 38:03Speaker 3: to solidify yourself as I've got this job as long
- 38:05Speaker 3: as I want.
- 38:06Speaker 9: It, man. I mean, in retrospect, it's just, as a
- 38:10Speaker 9: side note, amazing how Ray Tomlin had such staying power
- 38:14Speaker 9: in the Senate, because it's just not done anymore, you know.
- 38:19Speaker 9: I think one thing is that if you are not
- 38:23Speaker 9: from Charleston and you your constituents perceive you as spending
- 38:29Speaker 9: all your time in Charleston, they can begin to develop
- 38:33Speaker 9: some umbrage to that. You know, he's never around you,
- 38:35Speaker 9: doesn't see our problems anymore, So that that is a
- 38:38Speaker 9: challenge for you know, any of the potential candidates from
- 38:43Speaker 9: out of the region. For Takubo and Tar, I think
- 38:47Speaker 9: probably not. You know, they can remain at home and
- 38:50Speaker 9: still come to the Capitol and do their thing. For Smith,
- 38:52Speaker 9: maybe more of.
- 38:53Speaker 3: A he's out of Preston County, right, Tucker County, Oh,
- 38:56Speaker 3: Tucker Canty, I'm sure.
- 38:57Speaker 9: And the other thing is I think Blair was very
- 39:04Speaker 9: open to his entire caucus deciding the agenda. But some
- 39:10Speaker 9: of those issues he got beat from the right. Some
- 39:14Speaker 9: of those issues he paid the price for. And you
- 39:18Speaker 9: know when I say that the Senate president helps determine
- 39:24Speaker 9: the agenda, that may be a cautionary note for the
- 39:28Speaker 9: next president on all right, we're this is a conservative states.
- 39:33Speaker 9: I don't want to get beat from the right. We're
- 39:35Speaker 9: not going to run this stuff that you know may
- 39:39Speaker 9: be perceived as as something that can be used against
- 39:42Speaker 9: me in the future. Here knows how that'll shake out,
- 39:45Speaker 9: But that may be a strong consideration of the next
- 39:49Speaker 9: president because the last couple have had very limited staying power.
- 39:53Speaker 3: Well, and I think that one thing that it's very
- 39:55Speaker 3: important to remember, and you know is somebody that doesn't,
- 39:58Speaker 3: as I said, doesn't follow politics as closely is what
- 40:00Speaker 3: maybe you or I do. They'll say, well, these are
- 40:02Speaker 3: all Republicans, they can all work it out. Well for
- 40:04Speaker 3: eighty three years, you know, when the Democrats were in charge,
- 40:07Speaker 3: they had similar battles because you had different types of Democrats,
- 40:10Speaker 3: just like you have different types of Republicans. You have
- 40:13Speaker 3: what's known as the country club Republicans, the Chamber of
- 40:15Speaker 3: Commerce Republicans tend to be a little bit more modern.
- 40:18Speaker 3: You have the h and I guess the business type
- 40:21Speaker 3: Republicans are in on that. Then you have some that
- 40:23Speaker 3: are all about the social issues. You have some that
- 40:26Speaker 3: are the far right. And I'm not saying it like
- 40:28Speaker 3: it's a bad thing, but I mean far right that
- 40:30Speaker 3: are more interested in still talking about COVID lockdowns and
- 40:34Speaker 3: vaccines and things of that nature. So it's a it's
- 40:39Speaker 3: a balancing act. And here's some of the information that
- 40:43Speaker 3: I have been told, and that is I was told
- 40:47Speaker 3: by somebody yesterday. There is a lot of movement right
- 40:50Speaker 3: now and a lot of noise. And I don't mean
- 40:52Speaker 3: that literally, but I mean there's a lot of lot
- 40:53Speaker 3: of a lot of volume coming out of people that
- 40:56Speaker 3: are supporting Smith, and that there's a whole lot more
- 40:59Speaker 3: that's come out for people that are supporting to Kubo.
- 41:02Speaker 3: And conversely, what that what that could mean is is
- 41:06Speaker 3: that they see Eric Tarr as being in the lead.
- 41:09Speaker 3: And so I don't say they're unified. I don't mean that,
- 41:12Speaker 3: but they're out there making the most noise because they
- 41:15Speaker 3: know that Tar may be in the lead. Now I
- 41:17Speaker 3: don't know whether that's true. That was told to me
- 41:19Speaker 3: by somebody yesterday your thoughts before we close.
- 41:22Speaker 9: I've heard that theory of the case as well, or
- 41:26Speaker 9: that Tar had been in the lead and that kind
- 41:27Speaker 9: of ganging up happened and that he may you know,
- 41:31Speaker 9: it's fluid, he may rally. The further thought that I
- 41:36Speaker 9: got on that theory was that they really want to
- 41:39Speaker 9: knock him out in the first round because he is
- 41:42Speaker 9: a competitor. He's very hard driven, maybe hard to take
- 41:46Speaker 9: out in later rounds of voting. You know, you were right.
- 41:51Speaker 9: The supermajority is so large and there are so few Democrats,
- 41:54Speaker 9: they have no one but themselves quite anymore. And it
- 41:57Speaker 9: does shake out a bit like Uh. I think of
- 42:01Speaker 9: Takubo as a business focused moderate.
- 42:05Speaker 8: UH.
- 42:05Speaker 9: That other group Bo criticizes him for some of the
- 42:09Speaker 9: positions team took on trans issues, on vaccinations, uh. They
- 42:16Speaker 9: label him a liberal. The other group, the Smith focus group,
- 42:21Speaker 9: is further to the right, more animated by by social issues. UH.
- 42:29Speaker 9: And then the Tar group. You know, Tar is both
- 42:33Speaker 9: a fiscal and social conservative. But he's in a tricky
- 42:37Speaker 9: spot because he's been on the leadership team with Blair
- 42:42Speaker 9: uh and and therefore has had to, you know, kind
- 42:44Speaker 9: of go with the flow on things. So it's gonna
- 42:49Speaker 9: be interesting to see. I think very much, whoever comes
- 42:53Speaker 9: out of this as the choice of the majority of
- 42:55Speaker 9: the Senate, it's going to be a true characterization of
- 43:00Speaker 9: which of the subgroups the majority really falls under.
- 43:05Speaker 3: So I started the segment Brad, as we let you go.
- 43:07Speaker 3: I started the segment with a wrestling reference. I could
- 43:09Speaker 3: referred to it as a three way dance. I'll close
- 43:11Speaker 3: with a wrestling reference picture. It folks like a Battle

- 43:23Speaker 3: Andre the giant over the top rope. Now, how's that
- 43:25Speaker 3: for a reference?
- 43:26Speaker 9: Oh man, Well, I don't know where you get hit
- 43:28Speaker 9: with a chair.
- 43:30Speaker 3: It could happen. It could happen.
- 43:31Speaker 9: Appreciate your reference, and you know so far actually it's
- 43:35Speaker 9: been pretty polite, yes, but it could come down to,
- 43:39Speaker 9: at least symbolically about what you're saying.
- 43:42Speaker 3: All right, Rad, I got to leave it there. I
- 43:43Speaker 3: appreciate you being here, my friend. Look out for the

- 47:39Speaker 3: East and Charleston make plans to get turkeys and drop
- 47:42Speaker 3: them off to the turkeys here at WVRC Media, Charleston.
- 47:46Speaker 3: Look who's back after I told him he could have
- 47:48Speaker 3: the day off? You know, say the more developments in
- 47:51Speaker 3: the high school mess Fred purs Singer still upsets that
- 47:54Speaker 3: he was not named People magazine Sexiest Man Alive. You
- 47:58Speaker 3: lost it to the guy from the off there.
- 48:00Speaker 8: And what you have to understand is I was named.
- 48:03Speaker 8: I turned it down.
- 48:04Speaker 3: You turned it down. I have no doubt. I have
- 48:07Speaker 3: no doubt that's what happened. So what do you bring
- 48:10Speaker 3: us today, sir?
- 48:11Speaker 8: Nothing?
- 48:12Speaker 3: Absolutely nothing.
- 48:15Speaker 8: The two play in games that were ordered by the judge,
- 48:20Speaker 8: the circuit judge in Mason County. They've been scheduled, okay, tentatively,
- 48:28Speaker 8: tentatively will be played tentatively Capital versus Hampshire at Bridgeport
- 48:34Speaker 8: Point Pleasant versus Saint Albans at Hurricane High School. Both
- 48:38Speaker 8: are scheduled Saturday at one o'clock. Now, I may be
- 48:44Speaker 8: the total total optimist in the world. I still think
- 48:48Speaker 8: the Supreme Court is going to come through. The SSAC
- 48:52Speaker 8: did file a writ with the Supreme Court yesterday and
- 48:56Speaker 8: they in there said oral arguments are necessary. In other words,
- 49:02Speaker 8: they don't have to show up to actually present their arguments,
- 49:06Speaker 8: that the Supreme Court has enough information if they want. Now,
- 49:11Speaker 8: the Supreme Court could request oral arguments, that's up to them.
- 49:14Speaker 8: But if they don't see they need them, they look
- 49:16Speaker 8: at the material they have and can decide what's going
- 49:20Speaker 8: to happen. I think I think that before this is Friday,
- 49:27Speaker 8: before five o'clock tomorrow, I think of the Supreme Court
- 49:34Speaker 8: will rule on this. There will be no play in games,
- 49:37Speaker 8: and next weekend we'll get back to football. That's what
- 49:39Speaker 8: I think.
- 49:40Speaker 3: Now.
- 49:41Speaker 8: Do I have any inside information, No, fingers crossed. I
- 49:45Speaker 8: got this information this morning from Wayne Ryan so Shot,
- 49:47Speaker 8: executive director of the WBSSAC talked with them at Great
- 49:51Speaker 8: Links last night on our High School Sports Line show.
- 49:54Speaker 8: And I think that's the way it's going to go.
- 49:56Speaker 3: I really do.
- 49:56Speaker 8: I don't think playing games, My gosh, what are we doing?
- 50:00Speaker 8: What are we doing again.
- 50:01Speaker 3: Like you said yesterday, one of the beauties of football
- 50:04Speaker 3: is it's real simple. For people like me, it's very
- 50:07Speaker 3: simple to follow. You know, you make the playoffs, you're in.
- 50:09Speaker 3: You don't have to lose, you don't have to go
- 50:11Speaker 3: And don't mean wry. I love the other sports too,
- 50:13Speaker 3: but you don't have to. Okay, well we lost this game,
- 50:15Speaker 3: so now we're down one. You're losing, you're out, You win,
- 50:18Speaker 3: and you're in'. That's pretty much the way it's supposed
- 50:20Speaker 3: to be. I'm not a fan of playing games either,
- 50:21Speaker 3: sir No.
- 50:22Speaker 8: And again, the Mason County Circuit Judge Anita Ashley when
- 50:26Speaker 8: she ordered this, you know she's only concerned about point pleasant.
- 50:30Speaker 3: I get it.
- 50:31Speaker 8: She's in Mason County and she's.
- 50:33Speaker 3: Got to protect what she's got to protect. I get it.
- 50:36Speaker 8: Hampshire, here's the team that was in. Then they got
- 50:39Speaker 8: kicked out. Okay, Hampshire has never, ever, ever, in the
- 50:42Speaker 8: history of the school made the high school football playoffs,
- 50:45Speaker 8: and now she is saying, oh, yeah, you were in,
- 50:47Speaker 8: but now we're going to make you play a game
- 50:49Speaker 8: to get back in. What what happens What happens if
- 50:54Speaker 8: they if the Supreme Court doesn't act until Monday, okay,
- 50:58Speaker 8: and the play in games take up take they go off,
- 51:01Speaker 8: and what happens if they go back to where we're
- 51:03Speaker 8: supposed to be. Hampshire is in the playoffs, but they
- 51:08Speaker 8: got beat in this playing game, and maybe their best.
- 51:13Speaker 3: Player gets hurt.
- 51:15Speaker 8: They're back in the playoffs without their best player. And
- 51:19Speaker 8: this game on Saturday, I don't know practice.
- 51:24Speaker 3: Does it scrimmage? Like a scrimmage like the old grit
- 51:27Speaker 3: a rama doesn't have an asterisk beside it, like like
- 51:31Speaker 3: like a steroid player with with with with thetistics do
- 51:35Speaker 3: not count in this game.
- 51:37Speaker 8: My goodness, gracious adults, get out of the way, exact
- 51:43Speaker 8: living vicariously through your son. Please just let the kids.
- 51:47Speaker 8: That's all they want to do. They want to play.
- 51:49Speaker 8: They don't care where, they don't care when let's spot
- 51:51Speaker 8: the balls, spot the ball man, or I'm going to
- 51:53Speaker 8: come off the top rope myself.
- 51:55Speaker 3: All right, let me ask you this. There's a text says,
- 51:57Speaker 3: does the strength of schedule need readjusted?
- 51:59Speaker 2: Yes?
- 52:00Speaker 3: Okay, no way a three and seven team should get in.
- 52:04Speaker 3: There was a call on Tom on Harvey Payton Show
- 52:07Speaker 3: before mine for somebody who said, I like, I'm a
- 52:09Speaker 3: Saint Albans graduate. They shouldn't be in the play.
- 52:11Speaker 8: Should not. The coaches at Saint Albans will tell you
- 52:14Speaker 8: that if they're saying, if somebody on the outside that
- 52:17Speaker 8: has the authority to put them in and they're in, oh,
- 52:19Speaker 8: you go play. Yeah, you know, I don't know if
- 52:21Speaker 8: you don't like what's gonna happen, but you go play.
- 52:23Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 52:24Speaker 8: I get that, I understand that. But get out of
- 52:26Speaker 8: the way and let the kids get back to what
- 52:28Speaker 8: they want to do and play football.
- 52:30Speaker 3: All right now, you guys will still be doing a
- 52:31Speaker 3: game night tomorrow night. Indeed, all right on this date
- 52:34Speaker 3: back in nineteen seventy five, you got bring Speedy Bavans
