- 1:52Speaker 5: What is going on?
- 1:53Speaker 7: Everybody Events Right, the Sports Governor and I am the
- 1:57Speaker 7: host of the Sports Done Right podcast, coming to your
- 1:59Speaker 7: life and direct from the Situation Room from the state
- 2:03Speaker 7: of Minnesota. Thank you so much for joining me once again.
- 2:09Speaker 7: It's training camp time. NFL football is back, so get
- 2:14Speaker 7: yourself some Seventh Avenue pizza. Tomorrow Vikings training camp and
- 2:19Speaker 7: tonight we just finished wrapping up with Thorn n Eistrom
- 2:23Speaker 7: from Score North here in the Twin Cities, your Vikings contact,
- 2:29Speaker 7: and yeah, this is going to be a good one,
- 2:31Speaker 7: so settle in. We got a thirty five minute interview
- 2:33Speaker 7: with him coming up momentarily. But a couple other things
- 2:37Speaker 7: I wanted to touch base on since I haven't been
- 2:39Speaker 7: on in a couple of weeks. First off, the World Cup.
- 2:44Speaker 4: You know, obviously not.
- 2:45Speaker 7: A lot of soccer, a lot of foot to ball
- 2:47Speaker 7: is talked on this podcast, but hey man, this tournament
- 2:51Speaker 7: won me over. I'm a soccer fan, and you know
- 2:54Speaker 7: I kind of was anyway, but listen, you know, like
- 2:59Speaker 7: the rest of the country, a lot of hybrid workers,
- 3:01Speaker 7: and you're able to have this on it. And actually
- 3:04Speaker 7: the days I was in the office, we actually have
- 3:07Speaker 7: a couple of TVs in our office and we popped
- 3:09Speaker 7: it on there as well.
- 3:11Speaker 4: Who knew.
- 3:14Speaker 7: That all America needed to get along was to host
- 3:19Speaker 7: the World Cup. So now FIFA is thinking about expanding
- 3:25Speaker 7: this this now sixty four teams. Please don't do that.
- 3:28Speaker 4: I mean, let's just.
- 3:31Speaker 7: Enjoy the success first off, as Americans that we had
- 3:34Speaker 7: here in our country. It was phenomenal and just enjoyed
- 3:39Speaker 7: it all. And I'll be looking at these teams going forward.
- 3:43Speaker 4: Man, I'll be watching.
- 3:44Speaker 7: All teams all around the world. But congratulations to Spain.
- 3:49Speaker 7: The Spania did it and all. Yeah, the last game,
- 3:53Speaker 7: Argentina just you know, nowhere to be found. And you know,
- 3:58Speaker 7: Messi tried to get it go on in the extra time.
- 4:01Speaker 7: He had a couple of nice crosskicks and whatnot, and
- 4:04Speaker 7: they came close, but Spain held them off and for
- 4:08Speaker 7: most of that game Argentina was mia. So congratulations to
- 4:12Speaker 7: Spain and a very successful World Cup here on this
- 4:16Speaker 7: side of the ocean. And oh, a big shout out
- 4:23Speaker 7: by the way too. Women's professional football. The Minnesota Vixen
- 4:27Speaker 7: are your champions. Bravo, bravo. And we're gonna be talking
- 4:34Speaker 7: with a couple members of the coaching staff here hopefully
- 4:37Speaker 7: in the next couple of weeks.
- 4:39Speaker 4: And you know, it's just fun. It's just fun.
- 4:42Speaker 7: These ladies, they paid their way to games, some fly,
- 4:45Speaker 7: some drive, but they get there and they beat Pittsburgh
- 4:50Speaker 7: for the women. The WFL championship really put it on them,
- 4:54Speaker 7: scoring forty two points wasn't even close. So congratulations to
- 4:59Speaker 7: the Minnesota vic and can't wait to talk to a
- 5:02Speaker 7: few members of their organization here in the next couple
- 5:04Speaker 7: weeks as well. And with that, let's just get it
- 5:08Speaker 7: started here. Like I said, we talked to Thor a
- 5:10Speaker 7: few months ago. Now football is back and I'm excited
- 5:14Speaker 7: to have him on. We'll be talking to him through
- 5:16Speaker 7: the season as well. And you know, the Vikings got
- 5:20Speaker 7: a lot of questions. Obviously, it starts with the quarterback,
- 5:24Speaker 7: Kyler Murray. I mean, who's it gonna be, right, I mean,
- 5:28Speaker 7: you know, JJ and then from there you got to
- 5:33Speaker 7: keep justin Jefferson happy. Defense is gonna have a lot
- 5:37Speaker 7: of new looks, new faces this year, so we cover
- 5:41Speaker 7: it all. So let's just get into it here and
- 5:43Speaker 7: again we're gonna start because you got to get a
- 5:45Speaker 7: Seventh Avenue Pizza. Why does Vince write the Sports Governor
- 5:49Speaker 7: keep raving about Seventh Avenue Pizza. No, not because they
- 5:53Speaker 7: sponsored the show. Remember I went to them. I bought
- 5:57Speaker 7: this pizza on my own because I saw them all
- 5:59Speaker 7: over social media. Got to know the family, got to
- 6:02Speaker 7: know Matt the owner, and it's all just you know, again,
- 6:06Speaker 7: like I said, plenty of solid frozen pizzas out there.
- 6:09Speaker 7: I'm not gonna sit here and get into a pizza
- 6:10Speaker 7: war with you, but I just think Seventh Avenue Pizza
- 6:14Speaker 7: just does it right, great, great, great ingredients and you know,
- 6:20Speaker 7: just one of the best out there. So make sure
- 6:22Speaker 7: you support them. And with that, let's get into our interview.
- 6:26Speaker 7: I am Vince ratch Sports Governor. I'll be back to
- 6:28Speaker 7: wrap it up after our interview with Thorn Eistrom.
- 6:31Speaker 6: Hey, Hey, do you know that Seventh Ad Pizza is
- 6:33Speaker 6: one of the best frozen pizzas on the market.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Well they do now.

- 6:39Speaker 6: Twin Cities, seventh that produces the highest quality of best

- 7:05Speaker 4: Get you some, all right, everybody.
- 7:11Speaker 7: Vince Right, host of the Sports Done Right podcast, here
- 7:14Speaker 7: with you Live again and.
- 7:16Speaker 4: From Score North, the one and only.
- 7:18Speaker 7: Even though he's in an NDSU shirt, I'm gonna let
- 7:23Speaker 7: you slide on that one.
- 7:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:26Speaker 7: I just remember to ask whooping they gave my Minnesota
- 7:29Speaker 7: Gophers a few years back after the Gophers barely escaped
- 7:33Speaker 7: in that last year in the metrodom. I think they
- 7:35Speaker 7: beat him ten nine and NDSU ironically missed a field
- 7:38Speaker 7: goal right at the end there.
- 7:40Speaker 4: But anyway, folks, Score North, Thor and I stream.
- 7:43Speaker 7: You know him, you love him. He's all over the place. Listen,
- 7:48Speaker 7: you need to know Vikings. This guy, however, goes right
- 7:52Speaker 7: next to me here.
- 7:53Speaker 8: He is your man.
- 7:54Speaker 7: So Thor, thank you for taking some time out tonight
- 7:57Speaker 7: and welcome back to sports done right.
- 7:59Speaker 3: It's always good talking to you, brother, Thanks for having
- 8:01Speaker 3: me on.
- 8:01Speaker 7: All right, boss, So hey, let's just get to it. Obviously,
- 8:04Speaker 7: we got to jump in with the quarterback situation. We
- 8:08Speaker 7: now will finally start getting some answers and from you know,
- 8:13Speaker 7: what the head coaches said is obviously, you know, look,
- 8:15Speaker 7: they'll get the reps in the beginning and from there,
- 8:19Speaker 7: obviously a story will be unfolding and one person will
- 8:23Speaker 7: start getting more and whatnot. Now, I know you're a
- 8:26Speaker 7: JJ guy, and I know you've you've on both sides.
- 8:29Speaker 7: You know, there's people that love JJ, but there's people
- 8:31Speaker 7: that have given you a lot of heat as well,
- 8:34Speaker 7: I'm sure over social media and everything. So let's just
- 8:38Speaker 7: touch base here as we're what the day before training camp,
- 8:42Speaker 7: how are you feeling about JJ McCarthy before we get
- 8:46Speaker 7: into Kyler and everything.
- 8:47Speaker 3: Else heading into training camp.
- 8:50Speaker 8: I'm I'm excited to see what he looks like here
- 8:53Speaker 8: coming up this Over the next month, a lot of
- 8:56Speaker 8: work was done.
- 8:57Speaker 3: After the season.
- 8:58Speaker 8: He immediately went down to John back the training in
- 9:01Speaker 8: California to work on the mechanics. You heard reports coming
- 9:04Speaker 8: out of OTA's in mini camps that that is improved,
- 9:08Speaker 8: and he was pretty good during during that time. No,
- 9:11Speaker 8: obviously what matters is when you get into training camp.
- 9:14Speaker 8: That's where the competition begins, right, and and that's what
- 9:17Speaker 8: we're on the precipice up now. But yeah, I'm excited
- 9:20Speaker 8: to see him. And as far as the competition itself,
- 9:23Speaker 8: Like when when that first came out and O'Connell was
- 9:26Speaker 8: first trying to sell it, I was definitely a part
- 9:28Speaker 8: of the camp that was like feels like a sham,
- 9:30Speaker 8: and it feels like they would have had to, you know,
- 9:33Speaker 8: promise Kyler that the job in order to sign him.
- 9:36Speaker 3: But as time has gone on and as I've I've
- 9:38Speaker 3: talked to more folks and and.
- 9:40Speaker 8: Then also listen to the public comments, but all that
- 9:43Speaker 8: sort of stuff, I do think the competition will be legitimate.
- 9:46Speaker 8: I my my concern was that for for the future
- 9:50Speaker 8: of the franchise, if you just closed the book without
- 9:53Speaker 8: giving it a shot, right and just sort of turn
- 9:56Speaker 8: you know, and I whatever, I don't think that's gonna happen.
- 9:59Speaker 8: I think he is going to be giving a shot
- 10:01Speaker 8: to win this job. I do think that this is
- 10:03Speaker 8: going to be a fair competition. So I'm just excited
- 10:07Speaker 8: to see the way that it plays out.
- 10:08Speaker 7: No exactly, I agree with you here, And excuse me
- 10:11Speaker 7: as I'm with him down because I had a story
- 10:13Speaker 7: here on Yahoo's Sports, and you know, I was just
- 10:16Speaker 7: looking at his competition.
- 10:18Speaker 4: Mister Kyler Murray.
- 10:21Speaker 7: Seven seasons in Arizona, twenty thousand plus yards, one hundred
- 10:25Speaker 7: and twenty one touchdowns, sixty interceptions, also rushed and I
- 10:29Speaker 7: didn't know this, but he rushed for over three thousand
- 10:32Speaker 7: yards and another thirty two touchdowns, So you know, he
- 10:36Speaker 7: definitely brings a lot of interesting, you know, questions to
- 10:42Speaker 7: the dance here.
- 10:44Speaker 4: But I agree with you.
- 10:45Speaker 7: I think, especially over the past week, they've really kind
- 10:48Speaker 7: of gone out of their way.
- 10:49Speaker 4: To say, look, this is going to be a fair competition,
- 10:51Speaker 4: and I do think so too.
- 10:54Speaker 7: Obviously Kyler regressed here lately, so why wouldn't it be
- 10:58Speaker 7: a fair competition to see what you got?
- 11:02Speaker 4: Real quick?
- 11:02Speaker 7: Because I just want to have some fun with this
- 11:04Speaker 7: because social media's kind of touched on the third quarterback,
- 11:09Speaker 7: mister wins and you know, a guy that has obviously
- 11:13Speaker 7: had success earlier in his career and then you know,
- 11:17Speaker 7: took teams deep in the playoffs and whatnot any chance,
- 11:22Speaker 7: I mean any chance or that somehow this dude just
- 11:25Speaker 7: kind of slides through the cracks and maybe, let's just say,
- 11:29Speaker 7: maybe makes it interesting for the starting position.
- 11:32Speaker 3: I don't think that, But I still with that signing.
- 11:37Speaker 8: I still feel and they can they you know, they
- 11:40Speaker 8: wouldn't agree with me publicly on this, but I still
- 11:43Speaker 8: feel like that signing was done to retain the possibility
- 11:47Speaker 8: of a potential trade, not that it's going to happen,
- 11:51Speaker 8: but that that you you would keep that up option
- 11:54Speaker 8: on the table for yourself with because if you didn't
- 11:56Speaker 8: have them, you wouldn't be able to do that at
- 11:58Speaker 8: the end of the competition, right, But you know, if
- 12:01Speaker 8: one of them was traded once, you know, can be
- 12:03Speaker 8: the QB two, Brozemer's fine enough as the QB three, right, So,
- 12:07Speaker 8: like you, that's what I think that's for. But no,
- 12:09Speaker 8: as far as like getting involved with this starting job,
- 12:11Speaker 8: I don't think so.
- 12:13Speaker 7: Right right now, let me ask you this, okay, so
- 12:17Speaker 7: JJ and Long, you know, I'm very interested to see
- 12:21Speaker 7: what he can do, obviously if he can stay injury free.
- 12:25Speaker 7: And that brings us over to Kyler. What are your
- 12:28Speaker 7: thoughts initially on Kyler? Murray and what are you maybe
- 12:32Speaker 7: looking for him to do, to say, for him to
- 12:35Speaker 7: get the job.
- 12:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:36Speaker 8: Well, first of all, you know, you're you know, I'm
- 12:38Speaker 8: the JJ guy, and so I sort of get framed
- 12:40Speaker 8: as like a Kyler Hayter, which is weird for me
- 12:43Speaker 8: because Kyler. I love watching Kyler and I always have,
- 12:46Speaker 8: Like you could go back in my Twitter, like eight
- 12:48Speaker 8: years when he first went to Texas A and M
- 12:51Speaker 8: as a five star. You know, he's five foot ten
- 12:52Speaker 8: and he's his five star quarterback recruit, and I just
- 12:56Speaker 8: could not wait to see him.
- 12:57Speaker 3: You know.
- 12:57Speaker 8: It's you know, there was all this stuff in tech,
- 13:00Speaker 8: his high school football about you know, he was a
- 13:02Speaker 8: legend with that and wanted to see if that game
- 13:04Speaker 8: translated to college. And then he went to Lincoln Riley's
- 13:06Speaker 8: offense and was dominant there and obviously that then going
- 13:10Speaker 8: first overall to the Cardinals and Cliff Kingsbury had taken
- 13:13Speaker 8: over there and an anomaly of a of a first
- 13:16Speaker 8: overall pick or a top one hundred pick as a
- 13:19Speaker 8: quarterback with the stature, and it's like, how is this
- 13:22Speaker 8: going to work out? I've always enjoyed watching him, you know,
- 13:24Speaker 8: it's like you're on sort of a roller coaster ride
- 13:27Speaker 8: right that he Since the ACL tear, he might not
- 13:32Speaker 8: be quite as explosive, but he still is, you know,
- 13:36Speaker 8: top three scrambler in the league. The evasion is still there,
- 13:39Speaker 8: and of course he can breach containment and get pass
- 13:42Speaker 8: line of scrimmage and start doing some damage. One sort
- 13:45Speaker 8: of modulation to his game that I noticed watching his
- 13:47Speaker 8: twenty twenty five tape from like earlier in his career,
- 13:50Speaker 8: he does keep more adherence to staying in the pocket
- 13:53Speaker 8: than he did in the past. And I think this
- 13:56Speaker 8: was something like the last two three years that that
- 13:59Speaker 8: new offense he was in with Petzig where where they
- 14:01Speaker 8: wanted him to stay in the pocket more, don't just
- 14:04Speaker 8: bail the first sign of danger. And he does play
- 14:07Speaker 8: on time, especially the short game, really quick stuff on
- 14:11Speaker 8: the hand, stuff like that. But he's gonna stay in
- 14:13Speaker 8: the pocket until he has to bail. But that's where
- 14:15Speaker 8: he can make people mess and even free rushers you're
- 14:18Speaker 8: gonna have a really hard time getting him down. The
- 14:21Speaker 8: ability to avoid sacks is really big there. He's had
- 14:24Speaker 8: one of the lowest sack percentages in the NFL. You know,
- 14:28Speaker 8: you go back, like I think it was five percent
- 14:30Speaker 8: here the last couple of years, one of the lowest
- 14:32Speaker 8: marks in the NFL, despite playing behind a bottom five
- 14:35Speaker 8: offensive line in the NFL. And when you watch his tape,
- 14:38Speaker 8: you see it there is pressure coming in and then
- 14:41Speaker 8: he'll you know, sort of evade it and and go
- 14:43Speaker 8: about his business.
- 14:45Speaker 3: It's an interesting game though.
- 14:46Speaker 8: Like in clean pockets, I liked the work that I
- 14:49Speaker 8: saw from Kyler, in muddy pockets, I did not as much.
- 14:54Speaker 8: And it's it's interesting for a player who has this
- 14:58Speaker 8: god given ability to get away from pressure to extend plays.
- 15:02Speaker 8: But that's one area of his game that I'm curious about,
- 15:06Speaker 8: in conjunction with O'Connell's prerogative with his passing attack to
- 15:10Speaker 8: do the deep drops and the slow developing downhill routes
- 15:15Speaker 8: for the receivers, because that system itself, it sort of
- 15:18Speaker 8: drops you into the shark tank of pressure, right, I mean,
- 15:22Speaker 8: you're gonna face that. And Kyler hasn't done as much
- 15:25Speaker 8: under center stuff over his career. With Cliff I think
- 15:29Speaker 8: it was ninety two percent in Shotgun. He did get
- 15:31Speaker 8: over twenty five percent under center within one of the years.
- 15:34Speaker 8: With Petsig you saw a lot more of that, But
- 15:37Speaker 8: not even close to what O'Connell does.
- 15:39Speaker 3: And then like this stuff with like.
- 15:41Speaker 8: The play action game, you know, under center, play action
- 15:45Speaker 8: back to the defense, then turning around some of these
- 15:47Speaker 8: deeper concepts like the O'Connell does. The very few times
- 15:51Speaker 8: I seen Kyler do that, he didn't look super duper
- 15:53Speaker 8: comfortable with that. Now, that wasn't the scheme there, right,
- 15:57Speaker 8: the vikings, thank god, don't run the Cardinals.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Don't run the Cardinal schemes.
- 16:02Speaker 8: But Ken Kyler adapt his game, or can Kevin O'Connell,
- 16:05Speaker 8: if indeed he's gonna go with Kyler, can he modify
- 16:08Speaker 8: that offense a bit in order to play up kyler
- 16:12Speaker 8: strengths And one of them is the short game.
- 16:15Speaker 3: I think Kyler is really good at that. And one
- 16:18Speaker 3: of the things that I enjoyed about the offense that
- 16:20Speaker 3: he was in before.
- 16:21Speaker 8: They would do a lot of motion stuff to set
- 16:24Speaker 8: up picks, in particular for Trey McBride, and then sort
- 16:27Speaker 8: of you know, you get him leaking out and he's open,
- 16:29Speaker 8: you know, five yards upfield, you know, the left hash
- 16:32Speaker 8: or whatever, and Kyler would hit him on the hands
- 16:34Speaker 8: every time.
- 16:35Speaker 3: Real quick stuff manufactured.
- 16:37Speaker 8: Looks yeah, but the completions key, you know, just sort
- 16:39Speaker 8: of chipping away at the sticks whatnot. That's not a
- 16:42Speaker 8: tenant of Kevin O'Connell's offense. Like you look, I watched
- 16:47Speaker 8: my buddy Matt Harmon has a website called Reception Perception
- 16:50Speaker 8: where he does hand charting of all the receivers and
- 16:54Speaker 8: like the routes that they run and their win rate
- 16:56Speaker 8: on those, et cetera, et cetera. Last year, Jordan Addison
- 16:59Speaker 8: had the second lowest rate of slants run by anyone
- 17:04Speaker 8: in his database, any NFL receiver going back like eight years.
- 17:07Speaker 8: It was the second fewest, and it's like, maybe maybe
- 17:11Speaker 8: we should send him on a couple of slants that
- 17:14Speaker 8: It was a scant percentage of screens, as anyone that
- 17:16Speaker 8: watches the Vikings know they don't really do that either,
- 17:19Speaker 8: but a huge preponderance obviously of the downfield stuff, you know,
- 17:23Speaker 8: the O'Connell offense. But if you had your druthers and
- 17:26Speaker 8: a Kyler Murray offense, you would be you'd be doing
- 17:29Speaker 8: a lot more quick hitters with that.
- 17:31Speaker 4: Exactly, yes, exactly, So that's.
- 17:34Speaker 3: What, yeah, I'm wondering about, right.
- 17:35Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly.
- 17:36Speaker 7: So let me ask you this, because yeah, you know,
- 17:39Speaker 7: in terms of the quarterback thing here, it's just it's now.
- 17:42Speaker 7: It's just it's gonna play out. So I'm not gonna
- 17:44Speaker 7: spend too much time on who who you got, blah
- 17:47Speaker 7: blah blah blah blah. But I am interested in the
- 17:50Speaker 7: tight end position, mister Thor. You know, this used to
- 17:56Speaker 7: be such a dominant position for the Vikings. And you know,
- 17:59Speaker 7: I'm obviously at older than you, and I'm going back
- 18:03Speaker 7: to the seventies and eighties and Steve Jordan's of the
- 18:06Speaker 7: World and all this stuff. What do you think about
- 18:10Speaker 7: the tight ends that we have and can they kind
- 18:13Speaker 7: of recapture some of the glory from just a few
- 18:15Speaker 7: years ago, you know, when Hawkson first got here, I mean,
- 18:18Speaker 7: you know, he was lighting it up. Now, granted he
- 18:20Speaker 7: took an injury, but you know, give me your thoughts
- 18:23Speaker 7: real quick on the tight ends of the Minnesota Vikings.
- 18:27Speaker 8: I think it's possible that Hawkinson could have a mini resurgence,
- 18:31Speaker 8: you know, in comparison to last year. I do think
- 18:34Speaker 8: that the high end athleticism that we saw earlier in
- 18:37Speaker 8: his career, I do think that that's kind of gone right,
- 18:40Speaker 8: like the high octane So since his own acl injury
- 18:43Speaker 8: obviously unfortunate early in his tenure with the Vikings. Still
- 18:47Speaker 8: a very good football player, though he knows our opinion
- 18:49Speaker 8: to his back. He knows the ball skills are great.
- 18:53Speaker 8: He doesn't drop a lot of balls either. The one
- 18:55Speaker 8: in the end zone that would have been his fourth
- 18:57Speaker 8: touchdown last year. I know he's still ticked off about. Yeah,
- 19:00Speaker 8: like as far as that goes, But sure handed guy.
- 19:04Speaker 8: I have a suggestion for the coaching staff, and this
- 19:06Speaker 8: goes along with you know, if, indeed, if you're gonna
- 19:10Speaker 8: go with Kyler the way that I would do with Hawkinson.
- 19:13Speaker 8: Hockinson has had a lot of the downfield stuff as well,
- 19:15Speaker 8: right testing the seam and this sort of stuff, I
- 19:19Speaker 8: think the better course of action, if it was gonna
- 19:21Speaker 8: be a Kyler Murray offense, would be to try to
- 19:24Speaker 8: use Hawkinson more like Arizona used Trey McBride and the
- 19:28Speaker 8: motion stuff, shorter the line of scrimmage, use him for
- 19:33Speaker 8: some of those manufactured touches. Kyler loved that stuff. One
- 19:37Speaker 8: of the other other hallmarks of the tape last year.
- 19:40Speaker 8: Whenever you would see the opponent drop into a drop
- 19:43Speaker 8: zone right after this snap, you know, like sort of
- 19:45Speaker 8: evoking at Donna Tell's defense where after the snap, every
- 19:48Speaker 8: defender moves back four yards.
- 19:50Speaker 3: It was automatic.
- 19:51Speaker 8: What you were about to see was Trey McBride run
- 19:54Speaker 8: five yards upfield, run a dig route which is essentially
- 19:57Speaker 8: just turn around Park put his hands up, and Kyler
- 19:59Speaker 8: was gonna h him on the hands is three five
- 20:01Speaker 8: yards or plus the yact that McBride is going to
- 20:04Speaker 8: manufacture for you. But stuff like that closer to the
- 20:07Speaker 8: line of scrimmage, I would like to see them doing
- 20:09Speaker 8: that with Hawkinson more. First of all, I think it
- 20:12Speaker 8: is an acknowledgment of where he's at right now of
- 20:16Speaker 8: maybe the athleticism it's not like twenty five plus yards
- 20:19Speaker 8: down field and this sort of stuff. But also I
- 20:22Speaker 8: think that would help out Kyler quite a bit too,
- 20:24Speaker 8: and and sort of a vol kids sort of relationship
- 20:26Speaker 8: with McBride there and the metric ton of targets that
- 20:29Speaker 8: he got there as well. And last point on this ventce,
- 20:32Speaker 8: Now this isn't the tight end position, but a little
- 20:34Speaker 8: bit of Jason here with Juwan Jennings, the best blocking
- 20:37Speaker 8: wide receiver in the NFL. Who's going to be in
- 20:40Speaker 8: the slot if you don't want to as a coaching
- 20:42Speaker 8: staff to send to modify Hawkinson's route treat as much
- 20:46Speaker 8: as I'm proposing here, then if it's Kyler Murray's offense,
- 20:51Speaker 8: I think Juwan Jennings is in for a much bigger
- 20:53Speaker 8: year than people are anticipating. I'm in the fantasy world.
- 20:57Speaker 8: You don't hear him forward it as a sleeper. Ever,
- 21:00Speaker 8: the guy you hear all the time is Addison. But
- 21:04Speaker 8: if Kyler Murray is the quarterback, and if they don't
- 21:06Speaker 8: modify Addison's route tree, I don't know what that connection
- 21:10Speaker 8: is gonna look like because Kyler doesn't get the downfield
- 21:14Speaker 8: driving throw stuff.
- 21:15Speaker 3: That's a weakness of Kyler's.
- 21:17Speaker 8: So you would have to change the usage of Addison
- 21:19Speaker 8: I think really to juice him. Whereas Juwan Jennings as is,
- 21:22Speaker 8: is a perfect fit for Kyler Murray because it's all
- 21:25Speaker 8: within ten yards of the line of scrimmage, outbreakers, in breakers,
- 21:28Speaker 8: and it doesn't matter if someone is on him. John
- 21:31Speaker 8: Jennings is gonna come down with the ball. It's why
- 21:33Speaker 8: they call him third and Juwan in San Francisco. Every
- 21:35Speaker 8: single time third down it's an inbreaker. They're gonna bullet
- 21:38Speaker 8: the ball at the ball into him. I think he
- 21:40Speaker 8: could get a ton of targets again if Kyler was
- 21:43Speaker 8: the quarterback.
- 21:45Speaker 7: No exactly, And that's the thing, so depending on quarterback,
- 21:48Speaker 7: wide receivers, and you know, it all leads to mister
- 21:51Speaker 7: JJ there and everything, and.
- 21:54Speaker 4: You know, if the Vikings have.
- 21:58Speaker 7: A shitty season or a season missing the playoffs again,
- 22:03Speaker 7: because I think, you know, we're starting to hear a
- 22:06Speaker 7: couple of little rumblings from JJ here and there, and
- 22:09Speaker 7: you know, you can read into whatever you want. But obviously,
- 22:13Speaker 7: I mean, he's not just gonna stay around to stay around.
- 22:16Speaker 7: So my question is this, what will it take for
- 22:23Speaker 7: the Vikings record wise to make sure that we keep
- 22:28Speaker 7: him happy? And you know, and I know, you know,
- 22:31Speaker 7: go deep in playoffs all that stuff, But this year,
- 22:34Speaker 7: what is it gonna take for JJ to be happy
- 22:37Speaker 7: besides receiving the ball a lot more and not taking
- 22:40Speaker 7: the last game to get to a thousand yards?
- 22:43Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 22:43Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, perhaps some more targets, but I don't know that,
- 22:48Speaker 8: and maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'll be proven wrong, but
- 22:51Speaker 8: he does not strike me as the kind of diva
- 22:53Speaker 8: that we have gotten used to at the receiver position
- 22:55Speaker 8: in the NFL, where even last year what obviously wasn't
- 22:59Speaker 8: what people wanted. But you didn't see him bristling at all, right,
- 23:02Speaker 8: you didn't see him, yes, yeah, And there was a
- 23:05Speaker 8: lot of people trying to project onto him of oh,
- 23:08Speaker 8: he's not gonna be happy with this situation, watch for
- 23:10Speaker 8: him to you know whatever.
- 23:13Speaker 3: There was none of that, and in fact, publicly it
- 23:16Speaker 3: was sort of the opposite.
- 23:18Speaker 8: Now this isn't to say, like turn him into Sisyphus
- 23:21Speaker 8: and see how much he can handle before before he
- 23:24Speaker 8: breaks or whatever. But you know, down here, I do
- 23:28Speaker 8: not see that guy trying to force his way out.
- 23:31Speaker 3: I just don't.
- 23:32Speaker 8: And I hope he never proves me wrong, because we
- 23:35Speaker 8: already went through the trading of Randy Moss, one of
- 23:39Speaker 8: the greats to ever walk the earth, and now we
- 23:41Speaker 8: got another one. I mean, my god, how lucky are we.
- 23:44Speaker 8: I don't want to see this franchise trade another This
- 23:47Speaker 8: guy was put on.
- 23:48Speaker 3: Earth to do this.
- 23:49Speaker 8: This, This is a top five player at his position
- 23:51Speaker 8: potentially of all time. Is where Jefferson, I think, is
- 23:54Speaker 8: headed here to join Randy Moss where he ought to be. Right,
- 23:57Speaker 8: So I want that career to play out here, and
- 24:00Speaker 8: I imagine that it does.
- 24:01Speaker 4: Yes, I hope so too. All Right, ladies and gentlemen,
- 24:04Speaker 4: score north Thorn and Eistrom joining us.
- 24:06Speaker 7: We're talking. Vikings training camp opens tomorrow, fans can get
- 24:10Speaker 7: out there. Saturday is the first day they opened the
- 24:13Speaker 7: gates and let everybody in.
- 24:15Speaker 4: And let me ask you this.
- 24:17Speaker 7: Let's kind of just jump from the Vikings here real quick.
- 24:19Speaker 7: Here thor well, we'll come back to them. I do
- 24:22Speaker 7: want to get to the defensive side of the ball
- 24:23Speaker 7: before I let you go here. But let's just talk
- 24:26Speaker 7: about the division real quick. You know, Detroit maybe a
- 24:30Speaker 7: little stutter step back last year. Obviously, the Bears, you
- 24:36Speaker 7: know that that Rams game. I mean when one of
- 24:40Speaker 7: the all time classics, Caleb Williams doing some stuff down there. Obviously,
- 24:45Speaker 7: there's always Green Bay, you know, Jordan Love supposedly back healthy. Now,
- 24:52Speaker 7: what are your thoughts on the division? And are the
- 24:56Speaker 7: Vikings maybe the third or fourth best team in this division?
- 25:02Speaker 3: They might be, they also might be the first or second.
- 25:05Speaker 8: And I mean this is the this is the only
- 25:08Speaker 8: division I think in football where you can legitimately make
- 25:10Speaker 8: an argument I think for all four teams to either
- 25:13Speaker 8: be first, yeah, or potentially last, like even like Green Bay.
- 25:19Speaker 3: Who's like money in the bank.
- 25:20Speaker 8: Parsons is gonna be out for half the season. Their
- 25:22Speaker 8: defense had wasn't nearly as good with Al Parsons. And
- 25:26Speaker 8: then that offense, if if if the Margins close on
- 25:29Speaker 8: it and all of a sudden, Jordan Love has to
- 25:31Speaker 8: throw a bunch more right. I mean there's a questions
- 25:34Speaker 8: with the running back Josh Jacobs as well, if that
- 25:36Speaker 8: offense has to go.
- 25:37Speaker 3: Through the air more.
- 25:38Speaker 8: The bugaboo with Jordan Love has always been a higher
- 25:41Speaker 8: elevation of turnovers the more he's got to put the
- 25:43Speaker 8: ball in the air. They've done a really good job,
- 25:46Speaker 8: you know, with him and turning him into a really
- 25:47Speaker 8: strong quarterback. But that's where that that thing potentially could
- 25:52Speaker 8: go wayward. The Lions, we've already seen it last year.
- 25:55Speaker 8: Now they're gonna be propped up by playing the NFL's
- 25:57Speaker 8: easiest schedule.
- 25:58Speaker 3: And it still breaks my heart.
- 25:59Speaker 8: That the Viking didn't get that because that you know,
- 26:02Speaker 8: I you know that that one game goes the other way.
- 26:04Speaker 3: The Vikings would have had that one.
- 26:05Speaker 8: But I think playing the easiest schedule in the NFL
- 26:08Speaker 8: is going to prop them up a bit. Even though
- 26:10Speaker 8: I think I think the run of the Lions, you
- 26:13Speaker 8: know what they have. I think that's kind of over.
- 26:16Speaker 8: But you might get one last sort of year here
- 26:19Speaker 8: because of that easy schedule. And then all as far
- 26:21Speaker 8: as the Bears go, every sign points to regression there.
- 26:25Speaker 8: But they did just they did just win the division, right,
- 26:28Speaker 8: and and they are younger and and theoretically getting more
- 26:32Speaker 8: talented here. But but there was a lot of fools
- 26:35Speaker 8: gold to what they did last year, and now they
- 26:37Speaker 8: got to play a significantly harder schedule as the hunted
- 26:41Speaker 8: no longer the hunter, right, And so I think that
- 26:44Speaker 8: flips it another thing. Like Ben Jonson schemed a lot
- 26:47Speaker 8: of touchdowns last year, it's a lot more difficult. I'll
- 26:51Speaker 8: use a baseball one for you, Vince, because I know
- 26:53Speaker 8: you're you're a multi sport guy. It is much more
- 26:56Speaker 8: difficult the second and third time through a lineup to
- 26:59Speaker 8: get hit out once they've seen your pitches before. So
- 27:02Speaker 8: the Ben Johnson scheming stuff, I'm curious to see if
- 27:05Speaker 8: they're able to scratch and claw out some of the
- 27:09Speaker 8: stuff that they've done here now that the division has
- 27:12Speaker 8: a lot of tape on that guy exactly.
- 27:16Speaker 4: Let me ask you this, who wins the NFC North.
- 27:18Speaker 4: Let's just have some fun.
- 27:24Speaker 3: Man.
- 27:25Speaker 8: Every day I go back and forth on this. I'm
- 27:29Speaker 8: definitely the Bears are the one team that I am
- 27:32Speaker 8: not going to say like they're the one team that
- 27:34Speaker 8: I because I absolutely think that.
- 27:35Speaker 3: Regression is coming for them.
- 27:38Speaker 8: The Packers, It's dependent on Parsons' health, so that I'm
- 27:43Speaker 8: just gonna say the Lions, even though I don't love
- 27:44Speaker 8: the Lions, because their schedule is so easy that I
- 27:48Speaker 8: I just think the wins are going to be there
- 27:50Speaker 8: at the end of the day for sort of one
- 27:52Speaker 8: last hurrah there. I don't feel confident about it at all.
- 27:56Speaker 8: Like I said, any of these teams I think could
- 27:57Speaker 8: finish first and last. I mean, we play in the
- 28:00Speaker 8: craziest division in the NFL. It's fascinating to see a
- 28:03Speaker 8: play out. But yeah, today, maybe I'll say lines.
- 28:06Speaker 4: You know, if you ask me today, I would say Detroit.
- 28:09Speaker 7: And because of the reasons you just listed with Michael
- 28:12Speaker 7: Parsons over in Green Bay and whatnot, I think the
- 28:16Speaker 7: Vikings are right there, maybe in second place, depending on
- 28:20Speaker 7: you know how that obviously the quarterback plays, and so yeah,
- 28:24Speaker 7: I think maybe Detroit two is who I would.
- 28:26Speaker 4: Pick right now. And obviously that can change.
- 28:29Speaker 7: So folks, again, Sport's done right. I want to thank
- 28:31Speaker 7: you for joining us. Appreciate you again. We got Thor
- 28:36Speaker 7: joining us here for a couple more minutes. So Thorn,
- 28:38Speaker 7: let's get it into the Vikings defense. Hitman, Harry gone,
- 28:45Speaker 7: you know, basically, but you know there's there's some there's
- 28:50Speaker 7: definitely some names there.
- 28:51Speaker 4: There's some players that that have been signed. What is
- 28:55Speaker 4: the bright spot in your opinion of the Vikings defense
- 28:59Speaker 4: right now?
- 29:01Speaker 8: Uh?
- 29:02Speaker 3: The Brights, Well, Brian Flores is.
- 29:06Speaker 8: Easy and I mean he he embeds a floor for you, well,
- 29:09Speaker 8: giving you a sky high ceiling. Just the defensive machinations
- 29:13Speaker 8: that he does is a mad genius. But outside of that,
- 29:17Speaker 8: like stuff I'm looking forward to watching with the defense
- 29:19Speaker 8: this year is in particular the defensive front. You know,
- 29:22Speaker 8: I've talked about this on our shows, but I was
- 29:25Speaker 8: so sick of watching Jonathan Allen and Hargrave play football
- 29:28Speaker 8: by like week five, because those guys were clearly we've
- 29:32Speaker 8: we've been here, we've done that, we're getting paid. We're
- 29:34Speaker 8: not we're not playing run defense that's beneath us, and
- 29:38Speaker 8: I was so sick of it. The gaps opening up.
- 29:41Speaker 8: It's like the run defense last year was bad because
- 29:44Speaker 8: of those two guys. I think, you know, in particular,
- 29:46Speaker 8: getting Dominic Orange in there, getting Caleb Banks and we
- 29:50Speaker 8: knock on wood and pray to God that his foot
- 29:52Speaker 8: is sound, but if it is, you get a havoc
- 29:55Speaker 8: greaker there in Caleb Banks. God just doesn't make many
- 29:58Speaker 8: human beings like that, with the six foot six, three
- 30:02Speaker 8: thirty plus and a seven foot plus wingspan, with big
- 30:06Speaker 8: old meat cleaver hands, so explosive, crash in the gaps,
- 30:10Speaker 8: like he was a feared, fear player on the college
- 30:13Speaker 8: football field.
- 30:13Speaker 3: It's gonna be the same thing here.
- 30:14Speaker 8: I mean, it's funny you see the picture of him
- 30:17Speaker 8: sitting next to Dominic Orange, like got a Timberwols game,
- 30:20Speaker 8: and it's like Caleb Banks looks like like his father
- 30:22Speaker 8: almost like it's like, even next to enormous human beings,
- 30:27Speaker 8: Caleb Banks is a different sort of a thing. But
- 30:30Speaker 8: getting young guys like that on the defensive front that
- 30:33Speaker 8: are gonna start creating havoc again and playing team run defense,
- 30:37Speaker 8: right like, let's, you know, let let's sort of get
- 30:39Speaker 8: back to that.
- 30:39Speaker 3: Also fascinated to see.
- 30:41Speaker 8: Galday, so I guess the sort of for me would
- 30:45Speaker 8: be youth of getting because prior to this, Vince the
- 30:49Speaker 8: last three years, the three years under Brian Flores, he
- 30:51Speaker 8: has never started a rookie defender that the Vikings drafted.
- 30:55Speaker 8: He did start one rookie defender that was the undrafted
- 30:58Speaker 8: free agent Ivan Pace, but in three only one rookie
- 31:02Speaker 8: defender started. This year, you might triple that right between
- 31:06Speaker 8: Orange Banks gol Day and we'll see on Jacoby Thomas.
- 31:10Speaker 8: I mean, like you know, they have numbers in the
- 31:14Speaker 8: safety room even without Harry. But Jacoby Thomas last year
- 31:18Speaker 8: was a superstar at Miami and it was a one
- 31:20Speaker 8: year pop up year. You know, prior to that in
- 31:23Speaker 8: his college career, he hadn't shown that it was an
- 31:25Speaker 8: ideal circumstances. But if that was not a mirage, if
- 31:28Speaker 8: what we saw last year was real, he is going
- 31:31Speaker 8: to be getting on an NFL field really quickly, Jacoby
- 31:34Speaker 8: Thomas as well. So getting sort of the youth in
- 31:37Speaker 8: there and seeing what Brian Flores can do with it
- 31:39Speaker 8: is the thing I'm most fascinated to see on that side.
- 31:41Speaker 3: Of the ball.
- 31:42Speaker 7: Absolutely, And I'm just looking at the schedule here, you know,
- 31:46Speaker 7: hoping with the Packers hit the road down to Chicago,
- 31:49Speaker 7: got Tampa Bay, Miami, New Orleans, and Indianapolis.
- 31:55Speaker 4: So a very interesting little stretch there from Minnesota to
- 31:58Speaker 4: get going here.
- 31:59Speaker 3: In the season.
- 32:00Speaker 7: And let me ask you this, though, which player do
- 32:02Speaker 7: you think is poised for a breakout year with the
- 32:05Speaker 7: Minnesota Vikings.
- 32:07Speaker 8: One guy I'm super bullish on is Jordan Mason, the
- 32:11Speaker 8: former teammate of Juwan Jennings. Funny enough, but Juwon Jennings
- 32:14Speaker 8: has already had his breakout season, so I don't think
- 32:16Speaker 8: I can go that direction. I'm gonna go with Jordan Mason.
- 32:19Speaker 8: The Vikings bring in Frank Smith. Their whole state of
- 32:23Speaker 8: goal this offseason was improving the run scheme but also
- 32:26Speaker 8: the run game in general, and they went into the
- 32:29Speaker 8: offseason with an idea that they were going to be
- 32:31Speaker 8: able to do more to improve the personnel in the
- 32:33Speaker 8: running back room, and it didn't work out for them,
- 32:36Speaker 8: so they brought Aaron Jones back on the pay cut.
- 32:38Speaker 8: But I think that Jordan Mason is going to take
- 32:40Speaker 8: over as the bell cow in that system this year,
- 32:44Speaker 8: and I think he is going to have a career here.
- 32:47Speaker 8: The pass doown stuff is this stuff I think Aaron
- 32:49Speaker 8: Jones is going to handle. Jordan Mason is not as
- 32:51Speaker 8: good at that, but between the tackles, running the zone concepts,
- 32:55Speaker 8: he very comfortable with that, you know, going back to
- 32:58Speaker 8: the time at San Francisco and the way he explodes
- 33:01Speaker 8: through the whole love the way he runs. He's a
- 33:03Speaker 8: hard charger, gets downfield, that kind of a thing. So
- 33:06Speaker 8: I'm gonna go with Jordan Mason to finally give the
- 33:09Speaker 8: Vikings some vestiges of a run game.
- 33:11Speaker 7: Very cool, Yeah, I get it. What are you looking
- 33:15Speaker 7: for from training camp real quick, or you know, any
- 33:18Speaker 7: particular story. I mean, obviously this is beyond the quarterback situation,
- 33:22Speaker 7: but any thoughts on training camp upcoming here.
- 33:26Speaker 4: In the next day.
- 33:27Speaker 8: Yeah, outside of the quarterback thing, I'm I'm excited and
- 33:31Speaker 8: curious to see how quickly those young defenders, how quickly
- 33:34Speaker 8: they start pressing there, how quickly they get him into
- 33:37Speaker 8: the Lineupy.
- 33:37Speaker 3: I'm just sort of that.
- 33:39Speaker 8: Draft class where Flores basically got the keys for the
- 33:42Speaker 8: first couple of days.
- 33:43Speaker 3: I'm very curious to see how, you know, how.
- 33:45Speaker 8: Good those guys play initially and how quickly they can
- 33:47Speaker 8: get onto the field. That would be a big one
- 33:49Speaker 8: for me. I'm also monitoring what the what else the
- 33:52Speaker 8: Vikings intend to do in their front seven. Just last night,
- 33:56Speaker 8: about twenty four hours ago from when we're recording right now,
- 33:59Speaker 8: it was announced that the Vikings are signing had signed
- 34:02Speaker 8: Jamal Adams, who was converted to linebacker last year by
- 34:05Speaker 8: the Raiders. The Vikings intend to keep him at linebacker
- 34:08Speaker 8: and essentially confirmed it with his number today. Is like
- 34:11Speaker 8: an old school line. You just love to see it,
- 34:13Speaker 8: but you know they're not done yet. That was the
- 34:17Speaker 8: first one that The next order of business here is
- 34:20Speaker 8: Edge rusher. They have an enormous gap behind that. The
- 34:24Speaker 8: Turner and Van Ginkle is great. They do not have
- 34:27Speaker 8: the Edge three on the roster right now. The backup
- 34:30Speaker 8: edges as constitute right now on paper, they're special teams players.
- 34:34Speaker 8: You need to get the guy that can do thirty
- 34:36Speaker 8: five percent of the snaps or so flying downhill, attacking downhill.
- 34:40Speaker 8: Jadavian Clowney is the guy that I bring up for this.
- 34:43Speaker 8: There's also a couple other guys out there that could
- 34:45Speaker 8: handle that. But in the Flora system you do have
- 34:48Speaker 8: those you know, rotational waves.
- 34:50Speaker 3: Whatever.
- 34:51Speaker 8: Dallas Turner can't be out there one hundred percent of
- 34:53Speaker 8: the snaps full go right and so bringing in the
- 34:55Speaker 8: situational pass rusher off the that's what I'm curious to
- 34:59Speaker 8: see as well.
- 35:01Speaker 3: And then I guess just just tree tops from from
- 35:04Speaker 3: training camp.
- 35:05Speaker 8: How now that that's gonna go back to the quarterback thing,
- 35:08Speaker 8: but I'm gonna try not to make it as specific,
- 35:10Speaker 8: but like they're gonna announce it at some point. O'Connell
- 35:13Speaker 8: said today that he is gonna announce the starting quarterbacks sometime.
- 35:17Speaker 8: He said that he publicly he said he had the
- 35:19Speaker 8: date in his mind, but he didn't, you know, want
- 35:21Speaker 8: to give it out whatever. Yeah, I saw that, but
- 35:23Speaker 8: I'm curious when you come out of that announcement, will
- 35:26Speaker 8: they give themselves enough time to build the offense around
- 35:29Speaker 8: the starter? And then how does that kind of look
- 35:32Speaker 8: because McCarthy's game is totally different than Kyler's. Those guys
- 35:36Speaker 8: play totally different. Like the strengths of McCarthy it's like
- 35:39Speaker 8: the velocity, including downfield.
- 35:41Speaker 3: Stuff like that, whereas Kyler it's it's the shorter stuff,
- 35:45Speaker 3: on time stuff.
- 35:46Speaker 8: JJ still needs to learn to play with better timing.
- 35:48Speaker 8: Right right now, Kyler processes the feel better. Can JJ
- 35:52Speaker 8: show improvements with that, but JJ has a much bigger
- 35:55Speaker 8: arm going downfield. He can drive balls into windows that
- 35:57Speaker 8: Kyler cannot and Kyler will turn down throw us cause.
- 36:00Speaker 8: But whole point being, you have to modify the offense
- 36:04Speaker 8: around that quarterback, put your whole offense.
- 36:06Speaker 3: In the best position to succeed.
- 36:08Speaker 8: So can the needle be thread here of doing right
- 36:11Speaker 8: by the quarterback competition? So you come out with the
- 36:13Speaker 8: best guy for that, But then also you build the
- 36:16Speaker 8: correct offense around whichever quarterback you go with.
- 36:19Speaker 7: Exactly all right, folks, again, thorn nice from joining us
- 36:23Speaker 7: from Score North, appreciate the time.
- 36:25Speaker 4: Let me ask you this and then we'll get We'll
- 36:27Speaker 4: wrap it up here with thor What does success look
- 36:32Speaker 4: like in your mind for the Vikings this season? What
- 36:35Speaker 4: does that look What is success? What does that look
- 36:38Speaker 4: like to you?
- 36:40Speaker 8: The Vikings need to win a playoff game in twenty
- 36:42Speaker 8: twenty six, that's you know, and I wish I could
- 36:46Speaker 8: have higher dreams and be like it's got to be
- 36:48Speaker 8: the NFC Championshippers, But they have to win a playoff game.
- 36:52Speaker 8: It has been too long. Obviously O'Connell during his tenure
- 36:55Speaker 8: has not won one to this point. They need to
- 36:58Speaker 8: win a playoff game this year. So I mean, like,
- 37:01Speaker 8: if you're you know, what would the goal be before
- 37:03Speaker 8: this season? For me, it's that winning a playoff game.
- 37:06Speaker 8: And it seems like that's you know, the organization sort
- 37:08Speaker 8: of circling the Wagans for that if if they missed
- 37:11Speaker 8: the playoffs. I don't know the kind of We're gonna
- 37:14Speaker 8: see a lot of changes there, I think, But but yeah,
- 37:17Speaker 8: I mean for for this season that I think that's
- 37:19Speaker 8: what it is.
- 37:20Speaker 3: It's not just make the playoffs. It is it is
- 37:22Speaker 3: when a playoff game at least one.
- 37:24Speaker 7: And if they miss you know, kind of piggyback on
- 37:27Speaker 7: what you're saying here, Kevin O'Connell has, you know, got
- 37:32Speaker 7: been a very popular head coach here.
- 37:36Speaker 4: Last year. I think maybe took a few hits, maybe
- 37:38Speaker 4: for the first time.
- 37:40Speaker 7: And yeah, and that's kind of what I was thinking
- 37:43Speaker 7: as well, Or is if we don't make the playoffs
- 37:46Speaker 7: this year, And I'm not saying the guy gets fired
- 37:50Speaker 7: right away, but I think at that point, you know,
- 37:54Speaker 7: the heat it turns towards him a lot more now.
- 37:57Speaker 3: For oh for sure.
- 37:58Speaker 8: Yeah, and you know, even bringing like let's say that
- 38:01Speaker 8: that happened and it's a fifth season, missed the playoffs,
- 38:04Speaker 8: hasn't won a playoff game to that point, it becomes
- 38:06Speaker 8: pretty anomalous over the last thirty years of NFL football
- 38:10Speaker 8: that he would come back. In fact, there's only two
- 38:13Speaker 8: examples of the last twenty five years in the NFL
- 38:16Speaker 8: of a coach that had zero playoff wins through five
- 38:18Speaker 8: years who got brought back for a sixth One of
- 38:21Speaker 8: them was Marvin Lewis, and Marvin Lewis is funny, he
- 38:25Speaker 8: ended up there like seventeen years with the Bengals and
- 38:28Speaker 8: finished with something like an oz to six playoff he
- 38:30Speaker 8: never won a playoff game.
- 38:31Speaker 3: The other one was Kubiak for the Texans.
- 38:36Speaker 8: Right like right, you know, and he got a longer
- 38:39Speaker 8: leash because of where they were in their their franchise history. Obviously,
- 38:43Speaker 8: that was the one where it got vindicated because in
- 38:46Speaker 8: the sixth season, Kubiak broke through making the playoffs and
- 38:50Speaker 8: winning a playoff game by beating Marvin Lewis's Cincinnati Bengals,
- 38:55Speaker 8: and he and Kubiak beat him a second time I
- 38:57Speaker 8: believe the next year as well. So both the playoff
- 38:59Speaker 8: win he got there with Houston, you know, was overlew
- 39:02Speaker 8: It but then goes to the Broncos and obviously won
- 39:04Speaker 8: the Super Bowl. But those are the only two examples
- 39:06Speaker 8: that that you have of that. So yeah, I think
- 39:09Speaker 8: for both the coaching staff, a lot of those people
- 39:11Speaker 8: in the building that have been there for a bit.
- 39:14Speaker 8: That's why it's so important this year make the playoffs,
- 39:16Speaker 8: win a playoff game, and if if they missed the playoffs,
- 39:20Speaker 8: there's there's gonna be some changes there.
- 39:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 39:22Speaker 4: Yeah, heads are definitely rolling.
- 39:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 39:24Speaker 4: All right, last question for you Thor, since you are
- 39:29Speaker 4: wearing that T shirt.
- 39:30Speaker 3: Yeah, how do you.
- 39:32Speaker 7: Feel about the squad jumping up with the big boys
- 39:35Speaker 7: and what are you expecting for their first season in
- 39:38Speaker 7: real Division one college football?
- 39:41Speaker 3: I absolutely love it, you know, and by the way,
- 39:44Speaker 3: I do, I do too. I think it was it was.
- 39:48Speaker 7: It was time, you know, all the crap I talk
- 39:51Speaker 7: about in DYSU. You know a bunch of people that
- 39:54Speaker 7: have gone there. But I respect the hell obviously out
- 39:58Speaker 7: of what they did and and the championships and you know,
- 40:03Speaker 7: really like three dynasties you know along the way here
- 40:08Speaker 7: these over the past twenty five thirty years, it has
- 40:10Speaker 7: just been phenomenal. Like I said, you know, come down
- 40:14Speaker 7: beat the Gopher and by the beating a lot of.
- 40:16Speaker 4: Division one teams. Talk to Kansas State, talk to a
- 40:20Speaker 4: few others.
- 40:20Speaker 3: Talk to Iowa, where I graduate school.
- 40:23Speaker 8: I was at a buddy's wedding that day when Indy
- 40:26Speaker 8: as You upset Iowa, and it was like in the
- 40:28Speaker 8: pre you know, you wait, you're with your buddies like
- 40:30Speaker 8: an airbnb.
- 40:31Speaker 3: That was awful.
- 40:32Speaker 8: I was just getting mocked by like this whole wedding
- 40:35Speaker 8: party for three and a half hours. Interestingly, my brain
- 40:38Speaker 8: only works with football, so like I'm not a savant
- 40:41Speaker 8: with anything else. That was the exact same date that
- 40:44Speaker 8: Lamar Jackson absolutely lit up Florida State with with Louisville.
- 40:48Speaker 3: That was like kids sort of national flag plant plan day.
- 40:51Speaker 8: But yeah, that was awful watching that, and I'm stoked
- 40:55Speaker 8: for dye issue to come up, Like I think, I
- 40:57Speaker 8: just think it's really interesting. You don't have anything have
- 41:00Speaker 8: to prove at the subdivision, and you could have said
- 41:03Speaker 8: that five six years ago. I mean, at this point,
- 41:06Speaker 8: you know, it's it's like a cat playing with mice.
- 41:09Speaker 8: You got to go go up now and and compete
- 41:11Speaker 8: for something at the higher level there. And I think
- 41:14Speaker 8: the Mountain West is going to have some real issues
- 41:16Speaker 8: with NDESU the way that that team is built, and
- 41:20Speaker 8: they play sort of pro style as well, so it's
- 41:23Speaker 8: not gimmickry, right. I mean, they find guys that fall
- 41:26Speaker 8: through the cracks in recruiting and they build them up
- 41:28Speaker 8: with their famous weight program and everything like that.
- 41:32Speaker 3: I just love the way that they do stuff.
- 41:34Speaker 8: And yeah, I think they're going to be a very
- 41:35Speaker 8: real problem, and maybe not in I don't think they're
- 41:38Speaker 8: eligible initially, but watch out for them in the CFP
- 41:42Speaker 8: in future years whenever they, you know, get past the
- 41:45Speaker 8: I think I think you have to wait a year
- 41:47Speaker 8: or two with the which are stupid.
- 41:49Speaker 3: But yeah, any issue is gonna be a problem there.
- 41:52Speaker 4: There you go, all right, tell them where they can
- 41:54Speaker 4: find you for social media.
- 41:57Speaker 7: He's on Score North people, he is the man, the
- 42:00Speaker 7: voice of the Vikings over there on Scoring North.
- 42:03Speaker 4: So yeah, tell the folks where they can find you
- 42:05Speaker 4: on social media.

- 42:40Speaker 4: I do appreciate it.
- 42:41Speaker 3: My friend, of course, always great to talk to you events.
