- 0:03Speaker 1: FT Spring training tour is happening. This is a big,
- 0:06Speaker 1: big day. We have a lot of things to celebrate.
- 0:10Speaker 1: First of all, happy three. We're out of our terrible two's.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Kratz had been dying for us to get out of it,
- 0:16Speaker 1: and we are now three years old as of yesterday,
- 0:19Speaker 1: aj FT the entire brand.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Yesterday, we even took yesterday off. It was weird that
- 0:25Speaker 2: we didn't have a celebratory anniversary show yesterday, but I'm
- 0:28Speaker 2: glad we didn't because some of us had to still
- 0:30Speaker 2: work even though we weren't on this show.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Other jobs, other jobs. We're also on Marquee, so we're
- 0:39Speaker 1: back on the channel that is the home of the
- 0:41Speaker 1: Cubs here going forward, so well TV Action there. We're
- 0:45Speaker 1: excited about that. As at Cardinals camp today, many bad
- 0:50Speaker 1: pete Cardinals plan that.
- 0:52Speaker 2: By the way, did we plan we plan that, Scott?
- 0:54Speaker 2: Did we plan for me to be at the Cubs
- 0:56Speaker 2: rival on the day that we went on Marquee.
- 1:00Speaker 1: You know what, Cubs fans, no ball and they can
- 1:02Speaker 1: appreciate national show that you're going to get every day
- 1:05Speaker 1: for two hours live and that includes your rival. You
- 1:08Speaker 1: get to learn about your bitter rival and this should
- 1:11Speaker 1: be a fun year for Cubs fans to follow their
- 1:13Speaker 1: rival because they are going through a little reset, lit'll rebuild,
- 1:16Speaker 1: whatever you want to call it, while the Cubs are
- 1:18Speaker 1: gunning for things right now. So all of that is
- 1:22Speaker 1: very exciting. And also we have a new sponsor added
- 1:26Speaker 1: to the mix. It's a sponsor you're quite familiar with
- 1:29Speaker 1: from late last season in the playoffs. So let's introduce
- 1:32Speaker 1: reintroduce Fox one. Fox one is where you can catch
- 1:40Speaker 1: every WBC game. There are forty seven of them that
- 1:43Speaker 1: start later this week. AJ is going to call some
- 1:46Speaker 1: of them. Ken Rosenthal will be on the scene for
- 1:48Speaker 1: some of those games as well, so we're excited about it.
- 1:50Speaker 1: In this episode and many more going forward, is brought
- 1:53Speaker 1: to you by Fox one Now live stream all of
- 1:57Speaker 1: your Fox favorites in one place. MLB season later on
- 2:01Speaker 1: of course opening week Fox Saturdays, which can be Baseball,
- 2:04Speaker 1: can be Football, Big Noon, everything right. If you don't
- 2:09Speaker 1: have TV for a while, as in cable subscription or
- 2:12Speaker 1: any of that, you don't need it anymore to necessarily
- 2:15Speaker 1: get your Fox favorites. Foxwe dot com the app for
- 2:19Speaker 1: more information, and since they're covering the entire WBC, we'll
- 2:23Speaker 1: start today's show with a little bit of WBC news.
- 2:26Speaker 1: We learned that Ryan Yarborough Kratz is going to replace
- 2:29Speaker 1: Joe Ryan for now. Joe Ryan still might pop up
- 2:32Speaker 1: later in the tournament, but for pool play, Team USA
- 2:35Speaker 1: will have Yarborough. It actually makes sense to me because
- 2:38Speaker 1: if Joe Ryan wasn't going to start during pool play
- 2:41Speaker 1: since he is, you know, has a little bit of
- 2:43Speaker 1: an injury he's dealing with. Yarborough is the guy that
- 2:46Speaker 1: I can eat innings for you.
- 2:50Speaker 3: For sure.
- 2:50Speaker 4: For sure he can eat innings and he has got like,
- 2:53Speaker 4: you know, Swiss army knife where he's gonna be able
- 2:56Speaker 4: to go a decent amount. And I don't think the
- 2:58Speaker 4: Yankees will be too pissed because this is exactly how
- 3:00Speaker 4: they want to deploy him during the season. I love
- 3:04Speaker 4: the I love this pickup for them, and Joe Ryan
- 3:07Speaker 4: could still be back, which is which is also a
- 3:09Speaker 4: huge pickup, which you kind of the best of both
- 3:12Speaker 4: worlds for him.
- 3:15Speaker 2: It's almost as if somebody said that this could happen
- 3:17Speaker 2: and we heard about Joe Ryan's injury. I don't know.
- 3:20Speaker 2: I thought someone on some show said that they forget
- 3:23Speaker 2: the regular season. This was more about WBC for Joe
- 3:25Speaker 2: Ryan when he was scratched, Oh yeah, that was our show.
- 3:28Speaker 2: So uh yeah. It sucks for him that he's not
- 3:30Speaker 2: gonna be able to be one of the starters. But
- 3:32Speaker 2: yarbs to go out there, funky Lefty to go out
- 3:35Speaker 2: there and throw eat innings can match up for you
- 3:38Speaker 2: can get righty's and lefties out. It's awesome for him
- 3:40Speaker 2: that he gets the opportunity to be part of this team.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Yeah, and for Team USA, AJ it's still going to
- 3:48Speaker 1: be the delicate balance of managing the pitching that they have.
- 3:52Speaker 1: And I don't think anybody's worried about them in pool play.
- 3:56Speaker 1: I think the concern will be when they have to
- 3:58Speaker 1: face some of the big boys moving forward. How will
- 4:01Speaker 1: things look against Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Japan, who they lost
- 4:06Speaker 1: to last time around. That's the real concern here, AJS.
- 4:09Speaker 1: How do you get yourself to a place where they
- 4:11Speaker 1: can use their best weapons in the quarters, the semis
- 4:14Speaker 1: and the finals.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Well, they got to get there, and then if they do,
- 4:17Speaker 2: I mean Skeen said, he's already pitching one of those games,
- 4:19Speaker 2: So you try to match up him right with whoever
- 4:22Speaker 2: you think is going to be the toughest challenge. I know,
- 4:24Speaker 2: you got to win to get there. But then they
- 4:26Speaker 2: also have Matthew Boyd who can start for you. Listen,
- 4:29Speaker 2: they have Logan Webb who said he's pitching too, So
- 4:31Speaker 2: Skeen's Web and Boyd. That's three pretty good options for
- 4:34Speaker 2: any team, especially the USA, and you match them up
- 4:37Speaker 2: who you think could be the best one in each
- 4:38Speaker 2: situation and go from there. But I mean, can you
- 4:40Speaker 2: imagine if it gets a semi final again and it's
- 4:43Speaker 2: Skeens versus the Japan or Skeens versus dr or something
- 4:47Speaker 2: like that. That'd be electric.
- 4:52Speaker 4: Obviously, that's what everybody wants to see.
- 4:54Speaker 2: But you do have to win.
- 4:56Speaker 4: Playing international baseball, you gotta win the pool play. I
- 4:59Speaker 4: know fans were like, oh, they're definitely gonna They're definitely
- 5:02Speaker 4: gonna beat these lower level two baseball's crazy. Just ask
- 5:06Speaker 4: Paul skiings like he shouldn't have lost any game so
- 5:10Speaker 4: far this year, and if your team doesn't score, which
- 5:13Speaker 4: can happen. We're gonna hear it so many times on
- 5:15Speaker 4: Fox One about you know, pitchers are ahead of hitters
- 5:19Speaker 4: at this time of year. I don't care if you
- 5:21Speaker 4: have the best hitters in the world. You can get
- 5:23Speaker 4: beaten in a nine inning game. I mean, Dartmouth almost
- 5:26Speaker 4: beat l s U yesterday. I would say that's an almost.
- 5:30Speaker 4: It didn't happen. But you gotta win every game. So
- 5:33Speaker 4: every every every inning, every game is important.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Sure it is. And you would think, you know, the
- 5:41Speaker 1: first two games for Team US areas teams they should pummel,
- 5:44Speaker 1: even just offensively, even even if they end up being
- 5:47Speaker 1: high scoring games. You know, for no Aj, I mean,
- 5:50Speaker 1: don't they didn't get him approved. Do you think he
- 5:57Speaker 1: was going to smash that freaking team?
- 6:00Speaker 2: Dude, I watched. You just never know, You just they
- 6:03Speaker 2: might throw a guy throwing seventy miles an hour and
- 6:05Speaker 2: it might take four or five innings for the USA
- 6:07Speaker 2: to make it adjustment. You just don't know, Scott. It's baseball, man,
- 6:10Speaker 2: it's baseball UABB University of Florida, who smashed your Miami
- 6:14Speaker 2: Hurricanes this weekend. So, I mean, you just never know.
- 6:16Speaker 2: In baseball, anything can happen.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Feels a little different, but okay, well anyway, all of
- 6:23Speaker 1: those games are going to be on Fox. Fox one
- 6:27Speaker 1: app has all of those games for you as well,
- 6:29Speaker 1: So if you'd like to figure out how to get
- 6:31Speaker 1: those games. Then go for it.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Well, you get to see me. You get to see
- 6:34Speaker 2: me in that USA verse Brazil USA verse Great Britain.
- 6:40Speaker 2: By the way, can you imagine this, What if Joseph Contreras,
- 6:43Speaker 2: who's all of seventeen years old, pitches for Brazil against
- 6:46Speaker 2: USA and goes out there and shoves. Think you'll help
- 6:49Speaker 2: his draft stock?
- 6:50Speaker 1: I think so. We've seen that in the past. Remember
- 6:53Speaker 1: we spoke to Millio O Pegan last week at Red's
- 6:55Speaker 1: camp and he talked about how that was a huge
- 6:57Speaker 1: coming out party for him. I mean, he was obviously
- 7:00Speaker 1: already a pro at that point, but it really helped
- 7:02Speaker 1: him become a name in baseball and his career has
- 7:06Speaker 1: really taken off since then. Cardinals manager Ali Marmal is
- 7:19Speaker 1: here and AJ, we're going to be able to say
- 7:21Speaker 1: that for a long time now, right.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean extension period, extension season is now. It's
- 7:28Speaker 2: usually for players, but for some reason him Bloom said, Oli,
- 7:31Speaker 2: here's a two year deal with the.
- 7:32Speaker 5: Club option, no doubt, And I'm glad he did.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, we get the terms. Will we be allowed
- 7:37Speaker 2: to hear that term?
- 7:38Speaker 5: No, no terms, no turns turned, But I'm pumped about
- 7:41Speaker 5: the two years with the club option. We've been talking
- 7:44Speaker 5: about it now for for a little while, so to
- 7:46Speaker 5: be able to execute that and get it behind us
- 7:49Speaker 5: is huge, man. So I'm definitely pumped.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Does it make you feel more relaxed? Does it change
- 7:54Speaker 2: anything other than your richer than what you work?
- 7:57Speaker 1: So?
- 7:57Speaker 2: Now, does it change anything?
- 8:01Speaker 5: You just want to make sure that you go into
- 8:03Speaker 5: this year and ownership and the new president actually have
- 8:06Speaker 5: a vision for wanting you here and being a part
- 8:08Speaker 5: of what we're building. Right, So from that standpoint, absolutely
- 8:11Speaker 5: changes some things because you want to be a part
- 8:14Speaker 5: of it.
- 8:14Speaker 2: Can you yell at guys more now?
- 8:16Speaker 5: Yeah, rookie, No, man, I'm glad we got it done.
- 8:22Speaker 5: It definitely changes the mentality of making sure that everybody's
- 8:25Speaker 5: on the same page.
- 8:26Speaker 4: Yeah, because one of the things that you always talk
- 8:28Speaker 4: about when you're on here is, oh, we just take
- 8:30Speaker 4: care of everything that we can each day and not
- 8:33Speaker 4: worry about other stuff. Do you do you now? Are
- 8:38Speaker 4: you now able to live that out because of the extension,
- 8:41Speaker 4: because of the opportunity to say, hey, young guys, I'm
- 8:44Speaker 4: going to be here with you guys.
- 8:46Speaker 5: That's exactly it, man, Because you're you have a really
- 8:50Speaker 5: young group. There's a ton of enthusiasm. There's a ton
- 8:52Speaker 5: of just really good energy around the clubhouse right now,
- 8:56Speaker 5: and a lot of it is because all these guys
- 8:58Speaker 5: are kind of in the same oh when it comes
- 9:01Speaker 5: to their careers. They know they're going to be together
- 9:03Speaker 5: for a long time, and to be able to step
- 9:04Speaker 5: into that room and stand in front of them and
- 9:07Speaker 5: know that you are the one that's going to help
- 9:09Speaker 5: them grow, grow with them, but help them get to
- 9:11Speaker 5: the point where we feel really good about showing up
- 9:14Speaker 5: every day and what the vision is here is important, man.
- 9:17Speaker 5: So like getting that done and communicating it to the
- 9:20Speaker 5: players and staff was important for me, it was important
- 9:22Speaker 5: for him, and I'm glad we were able to to
- 9:24Speaker 5: get it to execute that.
- 9:27Speaker 1: I promise we'll talk about your players in a moment.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Just one more here on this for me, So him
- 9:33Speaker 1: takes over now Officially, I feel like some of the
- 9:36Speaker 1: chatter was like, oh, you know, he's got to see
- 9:38Speaker 1: how he gets along with and communicates with his manager,
- 9:42Speaker 1: And I'm thinking, doesn't he already know him. I know
- 9:44Speaker 1: that he wasn't calling every shot, but you guys clearly
- 9:47Speaker 1: got to communicate and work together quite a bit. So
- 9:50Speaker 1: to me, when I saw this news, I was like, yeah,
- 9:51Speaker 1: this this makes sense.
- 9:53Speaker 5: This is a you nailed it. You're absolutely right. It's
- 9:58Speaker 5: a really unique situation because really doesn't work out this way,
- 10:01Speaker 5: right Like new president comes in, manager gets fired, they
- 10:04Speaker 5: bring in their own guy, and you go from there.
- 10:07Speaker 5: What was a benefit was that he was with the
- 10:10Speaker 5: organization for two years and we got to kind of
- 10:12Speaker 5: build that relationship because at the end of the day, man,
- 10:15Speaker 5: it all comes down to trust, and that's the most
- 10:18Speaker 5: important thing for me, it's the most important thing for him,
- 10:21Speaker 5: and we were able to build that over the last
- 10:22Speaker 5: two years. So we've had some very direct and honest
- 10:26Speaker 5: conversations and got to a point where we both were
- 10:30Speaker 5: super aligned on kind of the vision, how we see
- 10:33Speaker 5: player development, how we see the game, how we see
- 10:36Speaker 5: the staff. It was just it all started to line
- 10:39Speaker 5: up really, really well. So I'm glad that I get
- 10:42Speaker 5: to stay here and be a part of actually building
- 10:44Speaker 5: this to where we wanted to get to.
- 10:46Speaker 2: When you signed that extension, did you ask for Scotch shirt? Guys? Man,
- 10:49Speaker 2: can we get you a shirt that fit you?
- 10:50Speaker 5: Give me one of these and I'll wear an account boom.
- 10:53Speaker 2: You want cardinal territory or foul territory, which both, thank
- 10:57Speaker 2: you both. Okay, look there right there, one right just
- 11:00Speaker 2: they're waiting for him. But this is Scott's Baby Gap
- 11:04Speaker 2: store that you went to.
- 11:04Speaker 5: What is this medium? Give me a real question.
- 11:08Speaker 2: That was a real question, Like, I mean, you went
- 11:10Speaker 2: Sammy Sosa on the arms. But the elastic so tight, incredible,
- 11:16Speaker 2: it's amazing.
- 11:18Speaker 5: Yours is tight and the rest right there stand up around. No,
- 11:22Speaker 5: don't tuck it in. Don't suck it in, tuck it in.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Anyways, let's go back to your players.
- 11:28Speaker 4: I have I have a real question. I have a
- 11:29Speaker 4: real question for you, Ali, and you have to answer
- 11:32Speaker 4: it or you don't get whatever T shirt you want.
- 11:35Speaker 4: Who's your opening day starter going to be?
- 11:39Speaker 5: It'll it'll be one of the guys that are in
- 11:41Speaker 5: this clubhouse, So it'll.
- 11:44Speaker 2: There's not a trade. What do you mean there could
- 11:45Speaker 2: be a trade?
- 11:45Speaker 5: No, he's in that clubhouse. That that's the That's the
- 11:48Speaker 5: only thing I'll say. But no, we have some good options.
- 11:51Speaker 5: We really do. Uh. That's what I feel really strong
- 11:56Speaker 5: about is the depth of our pitching. When you look
- 11:58Speaker 5: at the rotation, there's something to get excpt about every day.
- 12:00Speaker 5: You got bringing in May, there's real stuff coming out
- 12:03Speaker 5: of that hand. You got Libby who's taken a real
- 12:06Speaker 5: good step in the right direction in his career with
- 12:09Speaker 5: Greevy Polante fits. You go down the list man of
- 12:11Speaker 5: guys that have done a really nice job and then
- 12:13Speaker 5: lay getting that opportunity to step into the starter rule
- 12:17Speaker 5: and just show what he's capable of doing. We did
- 12:19Speaker 5: that with Libby last year and it worked out really,
- 12:21Speaker 5: really well. This guy has the pitches to do it,
- 12:23Speaker 5: the demeanor to do at the confidence. So I'm looking
- 12:26Speaker 5: forward to continuing to evaluate that. But there's there's more options,
- 12:31Speaker 5: which is a good place to be.
- 12:34Speaker 4: What does it need to What do you need to
- 12:36Speaker 4: see in spring training? Because I know for hitters it's like,
- 12:39Speaker 4: whoa this dude four hundred, Well he was ripping you know,
- 12:44Speaker 4: some first pitch heaters out of the ballpark. What do
- 12:46Speaker 4: you need to see for pitchers or have you already
- 12:48Speaker 4: seen like majority of what you need to see? And
- 12:51Speaker 4: then it's just like I'll just wake make sure everybody's
- 12:53Speaker 4: healthy and then make the decision.
- 12:55Speaker 5: A lot of it is just coming down to health,
- 12:57Speaker 5: making sure you can get close to the end and
- 13:00Speaker 5: feel good about everybody's health. You're really evaluating how they
- 13:04Speaker 5: come into spring. And the reality is, man, we've seen
- 13:07Speaker 5: there's no surprises. We have a good idea of what
- 13:09Speaker 5: we have and and kind of where this is uh
- 13:12Speaker 5: gonna shape up. But I would like to get a
- 13:15Speaker 5: couple of weeks further into camp before before we make
- 13:18Speaker 5: those decisions or at least announced.
- 13:20Speaker 2: What about hitters. You talked about how good the pitchers are. Yes,
- 13:24Speaker 2: now the hitters you have, you have a younger We
- 13:27Speaker 2: even have a younger team on the hitting side than
- 13:30Speaker 2: you have on the pitching side.
- 13:31Speaker 5: Now we do, and I like where we're at.
- 13:33Speaker 2: There can we pencil weather holding at second base?
- 13:37Speaker 5: Man? He really is. I mean, the skill set is
- 13:40Speaker 5: what it is. We've talked enough about that, but the
- 13:42Speaker 5: mentality is what continues to stand out for me. He's
- 13:45Speaker 5: been like, for example, this guy's been working on his
- 13:47Speaker 5: backhand and he comes into camp and baseball does what
- 13:50Speaker 5: baseball does, it'll test you, and he makes two errors
- 13:53Speaker 5: going to his backhand, and then talking to him, he's
- 13:55Speaker 5: not sped up, just the way he's able to communicate
- 13:58Speaker 5: what he was thinking, why it happened, what he's doing
- 14:01Speaker 5: to correct it is above what you would normally have
- 14:05Speaker 5: for his age. So I love his mentality, his competitive nature,
- 14:09Speaker 5: the way he's going about camp, and the way he's
- 14:11Speaker 5: responding to things not going his way at times, so
- 14:16Speaker 5: and impressive. He's gonna help us win a lot of
- 14:18Speaker 5: games for years to come, for sure.
- 14:19Speaker 2: What about like Jordan Walker Yahon win back again?
- 14:23Speaker 5: See when it comes to yeah, I'll say this about
- 14:26Speaker 5: Vic and Mason. I think those two guys there's a
- 14:31Speaker 5: big gap between where they're at and what the ceiling is,
- 14:36Speaker 5: and I think both of them are going to close
- 14:38Speaker 5: that gap pretty quickly. Even here and Mason talked through
- 14:41Speaker 5: his approach this spring compared to a year ago is
- 14:44Speaker 5: night and day man like, and he had he articulated
- 14:47Speaker 5: it really well. He's like, man, I was just trying
- 14:49Speaker 5: to hit homers and see how many I can hit.
- 14:51Speaker 5: I need to be a guy that I can hit
- 14:53Speaker 5: three hundred every year. I could drive the baseball when
- 14:55Speaker 5: I picked my spots to leave the yard, but I
- 14:57Speaker 5: can spray the ball over the field and find different
- 14:59Speaker 5: ways to help us win. When you hear that coming
- 15:02Speaker 5: out of his mouth, it gets you excited. So he's
- 15:04Speaker 5: in the right mindset right now to be able to
- 15:05Speaker 5: help us there. I think Vic is making some really
- 15:08Speaker 5: good strides. And then Walker. This was the first offseason
- 15:11Speaker 5: I felt like Walker was able to communicate with the
- 15:14Speaker 5: level of maturity where it was I don't feel good
- 15:17Speaker 5: doing this. Is there a different way of getting to
- 15:19Speaker 5: the same end game and truly communicating with our hitting
- 15:23Speaker 5: staff in order to get on the other side of this.
- 15:25Speaker 5: There's a ton of talent there. I'm nowhere close to
- 15:28Speaker 5: giving up on this kid. Is He is going to
- 15:31Speaker 5: figure it out, and I'm committed to that. But we
- 15:35Speaker 5: do feel good. I mean, Burley, you go down the list,
- 15:37Speaker 5: we feel pretty good about where some of these guys
- 15:39Speaker 5: are at.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Hey, so do you feel as if there's going to
- 15:43Speaker 1: be time for guys like that to really let it
- 15:45Speaker 1: eat this year? And what I mean is they've got
- 15:49Speaker 1: the lane right if they struggle for a few weeks
- 15:52Speaker 1: or whatever it is, there's a lane here to say
- 15:55Speaker 1: we're trying to put a fresh brand of Cardinal baseball together.
- 15:57Speaker 1: There aren't as many veterans here. I don't want to
- 16:00Speaker 1: say it's like depending on what spot you are in
- 16:03Speaker 1: the season, but do you know what I'm saying where
- 16:04Speaker 1: it's like, hey, I don't I don't see make or
- 16:06Speaker 1: break either, but you need to just give some guys
- 16:09Speaker 1: full pt as much as you can, right and be like,
- 16:12Speaker 1: do we have something here?
- 16:14Speaker 5: I think that's exactly what this is all about. And
- 16:18Speaker 5: even if you think to last year, there were still
- 16:21Speaker 5: some roadblocks there and you weren't able to fully do it.
- 16:24Speaker 5: I think this year there is the ability and opportunity
- 16:28Speaker 5: for these guys to take it and run with it,
- 16:31Speaker 5: but also work through some struggles in real time and
- 16:34Speaker 5: hopefully get on the other side of it. But when
- 16:37Speaker 5: you look at our roster, there's definitely opportunity for everything
- 16:41Speaker 5: that you just kind of describe.
- 16:44Speaker 4: Are there enough veterans in a room? I mean, because
- 16:47Speaker 4: it's a lot for coaches. You have a lot of
- 16:48Speaker 4: coaches who have a lot of But are there enough
- 16:53Speaker 4: veterans in the room in your opinion your experience through
- 16:56Speaker 4: your cardinal's.
- 16:57Speaker 5: Time, Yes, I think there are. And here's why. I
- 17:02Speaker 5: think if you would ask me a year ago if
- 17:04Speaker 5: you would have removed the veterans last year and had
- 17:07Speaker 5: this group, I would have said no, I don't think
- 17:10Speaker 5: some of these guys were ready to take that next
- 17:12Speaker 5: step and be able to hold a clubhouse and hold
- 17:14Speaker 5: people accountable and do it in a way that's actually impactful.
- 17:18Speaker 5: I do feel much better about where that group's at.
- 17:21Speaker 5: And I think by not having that big name, big
- 17:24Speaker 5: voice that everyone looks to for everything in the clubhouse,
- 17:27Speaker 5: it allows each and every one of them to kind
- 17:28Speaker 5: of step into that role, some more than others. But
- 17:33Speaker 5: I like the mix right now. A year ago, absolutely not,
- 17:37Speaker 5: but I feel really good. I think even bringing in
- 17:40Speaker 5: someone like Stanic Man, he does a really nice job
- 17:43Speaker 5: of bringing that clubhouse together. And sometimes it's hard for
- 17:46Speaker 5: a picture to do it for the position position players,
- 17:49Speaker 5: but he does a really nice job of including everybody.
- 17:51Speaker 5: So the mix is where I would want it to
- 17:54Speaker 5: be right now. It really is.
- 17:56Speaker 2: Here's the leader in the room.
- 17:57Speaker 5: It's a combination of guys man like Mason as the
- 18:00Speaker 5: ability where people just gravitate towards him right and him
- 18:03Speaker 5: being able to take that next step. And he's done
- 18:06Speaker 5: a really nice job of being more vocal but when
- 18:08Speaker 5: he speaks saying things that matter, like that are actually
- 18:11Speaker 5: impactful and that hold the room to a higher standard.
- 18:14Speaker 5: Stanic has done that as well. Libby is Stefin into
- 18:17Speaker 5: that some girlson does it in his own way where
- 18:20Speaker 5: he can have more one on one conversations. His personality
- 18:23Speaker 5: lends himself well to that. So it's gonna be a
- 18:27Speaker 5: collective of them kind of coming together and being able
- 18:29Speaker 5: to do that. But because of where we're at and
- 18:31Speaker 5: we're so like, I don't mind that. I don't mind
- 18:34Speaker 5: a core of being able to kind of bring that
- 18:37Speaker 5: whole room up rather than just one big veteran name.
- 18:39Speaker 5: I'm okay with it.
- 18:40Speaker 4: Yeah, all right, Ali, this is two part And since
- 18:44Speaker 4: you body shamed AJ at the beginning of this, Cardinals
- 18:48Speaker 4: now have a unlimited unlimited concession. The unlimited concessions with
- 18:53Speaker 4: your ticket. One, what do you go to that you
- 18:57Speaker 4: would just eat endlessly? That's in the ball park? And
- 19:00Speaker 4: two who on the team do you think could punish
- 19:03Speaker 4: the most food if they got unlimited concessions for a game?
- 19:10Speaker 5: One thing I can crush that's at the ballpark. I
- 19:15Speaker 5: can crush the overnight oats.
- 19:17Speaker 2: No, No, we're talking concession, dude, We're not ptsion. Big League
- 19:22Speaker 2: Cartinals are doing like twenty six dollars all you can
- 19:25Speaker 2: eat hot dog, nachos, cokes, all that's in it.
- 19:28Speaker 5: I don't believe I've never seen that.
- 19:29Speaker 2: What is it? Hot dogs? Yeah? Right? There? Limited concessions popcorn?
- 19:35Speaker 5: Yeah, uh, it's pizza on there, that's let's go with that.
- 19:45Speaker 5: I can crush some of that overnight oats. B that's
- 19:48Speaker 5: what I like eating. You ask me what I eat
- 19:49Speaker 5: in the morning. I gave you my answer. Yeah, but
- 19:51Speaker 5: like you don't sell overnight oats and I did share
- 19:53Speaker 5: the concession part. Okay, yeah, who in the uh be careful?
- 20:00Speaker 5: I mean, what are we doing here? I would?
- 20:05Speaker 4: I mean, you know your players.
- 20:07Speaker 5: I do, I do. I've got man, I love him,
- 20:11Speaker 5: but I got I got, I got Poso crushing some stuff.
- 20:15Speaker 5: That's my dude. You just said poke like you said no. No,
- 20:18Speaker 5: I'm gonna go with yes, yes.
- 20:22Speaker 4: On on that, on that Ali, on that Poso. Poso
- 20:25Speaker 4: lost thirty three pounds this year coming into camp.
- 20:28Speaker 5: What he looks?
- 20:29Speaker 2: What do you like?
- 20:32Speaker 4: How do you how do you equate that as far
- 20:34Speaker 4: as like when guys are like, oh, best shape of
- 20:36Speaker 4: my career. He clearly made an a effort to come
- 20:40Speaker 4: into camp to eliminate something that may have been a negative.
- 20:44Speaker 4: But then you still have to go out and play.
- 20:46Speaker 4: It's not just it's not a body contest. It's not
- 20:48Speaker 4: you know, O'Neill's not on the team anymore to take
- 20:50Speaker 4: his shirt off. But how do you how do you
- 20:52Speaker 4: evaluate that based on the fact that you know he
- 20:55Speaker 4: worked hard, but he still has to perform on the field.
- 20:58Speaker 5: More of a movement thing than anything. Like for Poso.
- 21:04Speaker 5: He works so hard and if you sit him down
- 21:06Speaker 5: and have a conversation with him and say, hey, here's
- 21:08Speaker 5: where we're at, here's where we need to be, Like,
- 21:10Speaker 5: this is a guy that's going to do everything possible
- 21:12Speaker 5: to get there and from a movement standpoint, being able
- 21:16Speaker 5: to do a combination of things of catch DH potentially
- 21:19Speaker 5: play a little bit of first. We wanted to make
- 21:21Speaker 5: sure that yes, the bats there, but that you could
- 21:24Speaker 5: have a little bit more agility and be able to move.
- 21:26Speaker 5: And he came in in really, really good shape. Man,
- 21:29Speaker 5: He put in a ton of work. We love having
- 21:32Speaker 5: him in that clubhouse for a lot of reasons, but
- 21:34Speaker 5: this was a big part of his off season and
- 21:36Speaker 5: he delivered.
- 21:38Speaker 1: A congrat agat on the extension. Good luck this season.
- 21:41Speaker 1: We'll be talking, of course, two shirts coming your way
- 21:44Speaker 1: or the man, thank.
- 21:45Speaker 5: You appreciate you guys.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Thank you coach.
- 21:55Speaker 1: It's hop Corner time and it is engineered by Fastnall.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Check out more info at fastnall dot. Let's get to
- 22:01Speaker 1: a signing, a major league signing. AJ The Kansas City
- 22:04Speaker 1: Royals signed up Starling Marte to a deal and it
- 22:09Speaker 1: just happened this past weekend, last day of February, and
- 22:12Speaker 1: Joel Sherman said he was a player they inquired a
- 22:14Speaker 1: lot about last year when he was a Met Mets
- 22:17Speaker 1: didn't end up trading him. But now he does land
- 22:19Speaker 1: with the KC team that will maybe give him some
- 22:22Speaker 1: playing time. I will say this, I mean I think
- 22:24Speaker 1: he had three ind or something played appearances last year.
- 22:26Speaker 1: He put together some decent at bats. I mean he
- 22:28Speaker 1: was still an above average bat by ops plus you
- 22:31Speaker 1: can get on base for give you a little pop.
- 22:33Speaker 1: I know he's getting up there in age, but still
- 22:35Speaker 1: can contribute here.
- 22:37Speaker 2: Yeah. The worry with Marte has always been injuries, right
- 22:39Speaker 2: the last few years has been injuries. Can he stay
- 22:41Speaker 2: on the field. But if you look at their team,
- 22:43Speaker 2: he's a nice He's a nice addition to the outfield
- 22:46Speaker 2: that they need. You have Caglion probably in center and
- 22:49Speaker 2: then the rest is kind of know where we at.
- 22:51Speaker 2: But I think for the most part it's a nice
- 22:54Speaker 2: edition of veteran presidents that'll give you solid right handed
- 22:56Speaker 2: at bats.
- 23:00Speaker 4: I mean, I've seen this guy played winter Ball with
- 23:03Speaker 4: him back in two thousand and nine, so I can't
- 23:05Speaker 4: believe he's thirty seven years old already. But if the
- 23:08Speaker 4: Royal see value in an outfielder, then they see how
- 23:12Speaker 4: he can get some at bats. Is that at bat
- 23:14Speaker 4: look like two hundred and fifty played appearances? That would
- 23:17Speaker 4: be to me, that would be awesome. You know, we
- 23:19Speaker 4: don't know how what the numbers are here for money wise,
- 23:22Speaker 4: but it gives a little bit of a veteran presence
- 23:25Speaker 4: and he can pop you a few dingers every once
- 23:27Speaker 4: in a while.
- 23:29Speaker 1: It's probably low and maybe I missed it, but I
- 23:31Speaker 1: haven't seen it yet, but my guess is what maybe
- 23:35Speaker 1: two three million bucks something?
- 23:38Speaker 5: Probably three.
- 23:39Speaker 2: They're left hand heavy though in the outfield. Let's not
- 23:41Speaker 2: forget that the Royals are left hand heavy. Man in
- 23:43Speaker 2: the outfield with cagli On is Bell's left handed right
- 23:47Speaker 2: and then if you go Isaac Collins as a switch,
- 23:50Speaker 2: so they're they're left hand heavy. So they need a
- 23:52Speaker 2: right handed bat somewhere to fill in and play wherever. Dh'
- 23:57Speaker 2: mixing a DH every once in a while, and they's
- 23:59Speaker 2: all be's catching and playing first or whatever, Vinny, you know.
- 24:02Speaker 2: So they're they're left hand heavy. Him and Lane Thomas
- 24:04Speaker 2: are going to be their probably right handed options off
- 24:06Speaker 2: the bench.
- 24:07Speaker 1: It was a theme this offseason. You heard many front
- 24:10Speaker 1: office leaders say that it was tough to find right
- 24:13Speaker 1: handed hitting in general, tough to find ready pop, tough
- 24:16Speaker 1: to find right handed hitting outfielders, a whole deal. So
- 24:20Speaker 1: Casey tries to fill a void here, we'll see if
- 24:22Speaker 1: he can keep himself on the field. So next conversation
- 24:26Speaker 1: I want to bring up is JJ Weatherhold. He actually
- 24:28Speaker 1: joined us before the show. He had a few moments
- 24:31Speaker 1: with him. So we're going to pick out a good
- 24:32Speaker 1: piece of it to bring up as a topic.
- 24:34Speaker 2: Right now, you're trying to learn, you're learning a new position,
- 24:37Speaker 2: second base. Are you learning it? Have you played there before?
- 24:40Speaker 3: That is like, honestly kind of my primary position, but
- 24:43Speaker 3: I haven't played it in a while, just because my
- 24:46Speaker 3: last year at college was transitioning to shortstop, and then
- 24:49Speaker 3: early years here is shortstop and shortstop and then third base.
- 24:52Speaker 3: So I've played a ton of second base in my past,
- 24:54Speaker 3: but getting back to it might take a little bit
- 24:57Speaker 3: of time, just from the game scenarios, just remembering how
- 24:59Speaker 3: the ball looks over there.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Is it footwork? Is it? What's the biggest difference, because
- 25:03Speaker 2: you have the arm, Yeah, for sure.
- 25:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I think just maybe some angles, And honestly, it's
- 25:08Speaker 3: just game reps, like being on that side of the ball,
- 25:10Speaker 3: positioning on only one to get far into the four
- 25:12Speaker 3: hole for certain lefties and things like that, and uh,
- 25:15Speaker 3: dealing with the plays up the middle and just kind
- 25:18Speaker 3: of those that got to work on consistently. And I
- 25:22Speaker 3: need to do a better job of getting my work
- 25:24Speaker 3: in there and structuring it that way as opposed to
- 25:28Speaker 3: how it was with shorts up.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Yeah. So for JJ, he has an opportunity to make
- 25:34Speaker 1: the team. I mean, he's really one of the big
- 25:36Speaker 1: storylines in camp there right now, a j And we'll
- 25:39Speaker 1: talk to Kim Bloom later more about JJ weatherhole. But
- 25:42Speaker 1: this is their first round pick, who's supposed to be
- 25:46Speaker 1: a big deal for them, Remember, and the draft ended
- 25:48Speaker 1: up dropping from one to seven, but the Cardinals felt
- 25:52Speaker 1: like they got an absolute steal at that.
- 25:54Speaker 2: Slot, absolutely, and they should just if you've watched this
- 25:57Speaker 2: guy play at all. If he fills in a second
- 26:00Speaker 2: with his hit hit skills and he's developing power, this
- 26:03Speaker 2: guy could be a star. This is the kind of
- 26:05Speaker 2: player that Cardinal fans can get behind as kind of
- 26:08Speaker 2: him and Mason went up the middle, right, it's kind
- 26:11Speaker 2: of the core of what the rebuild is supposed to be.
- 26:13Speaker 2: And this is a start. Find a shortstop, second basement,
- 26:16Speaker 2: then you find your catcher, your center fielder. Boom you're
- 26:19Speaker 2: cooking with. You're cooking with fire there, boys, and then
- 26:21Speaker 2: you can get started on the pitching staff. So I mean,
- 26:24Speaker 2: I like this move, and I love the fact that
- 26:26Speaker 2: he's ready in embracing the change, not just saying because
- 26:29Speaker 2: he's not gonna play shortop anytime too. With Mason win
- 26:31Speaker 2: standing over.
- 26:31Speaker 1: There exactly, Yeah, Mason went as a freaking cannon. He's
- 26:36Speaker 1: excellent over at shortstop. Okay.
- 26:38Speaker 2: Lastly, one, by the way, made one he made one
- 26:41Speaker 2: error last year is a shortstop one error?
- 26:43Speaker 1: That was it?
- 26:44Speaker 2: One air, Mason went. I believe that's right. He made
- 26:47Speaker 2: one air at shortstop last year.
- 26:49Speaker 1: Okay, I'll look that up when we have a moment
- 26:52Speaker 1: last thing here on the Cardinals while we're talking hot corner,
- 26:55Speaker 1: so you mentioned it, AJ to Ali Marmel. They are
- 26:59Speaker 1: running some special with certain ticket packages and they start
- 27:06Speaker 1: as low as twenty nine bucks. I heard other games
- 27:08Speaker 1: they could jump a little bit higher. But if you
- 27:11Speaker 1: do serious damage at a ballpark, this could be a
- 27:14Speaker 1: really good opportunity for you. Bottomless soda, hot dogs, chicken tenders, broughtwurst, nachos, fries, popcorn, peanuts, chips,
- 27:23Speaker 1: and ice cream. AJ. If someone wants to like get
- 27:27Speaker 1: a real good workout in and then go to that
- 27:29Speaker 1: game absolutely starving, they can more than get their money's worth.
- 27:34Speaker 2: Uh yeah, sign me up. Sign krats over this. We'll
- 27:36Speaker 2: have an eating contest between krats and brawn and I'll
- 27:39Speaker 2: watch while eat my overnight oats. So alli, So you guys,
- 27:43Speaker 2: you guys sign up. You guys can go chicken tendies,
- 27:45Speaker 2: you guys can go all those great things, and I'll
- 27:48Speaker 2: have my overnight oats with Olie.
- 27:49Speaker 1: I want the oats.
- 27:50Speaker 4: Crats, Nope, you can have the oats. I'm going nachos,
- 27:55Speaker 4: to peanuts to ice cream, Like I mean, it's just
- 27:59Speaker 4: gonna be. I know, Scotty's not to do the ice cream.
- 28:01Speaker 4: That's fine, but I'm just gonna keep I'm just gonna
- 28:04Speaker 4: keep cycling it. I don't even need the soda, Just
- 28:06Speaker 4: keep cycling those things in.
- 28:07Speaker 2: For me.
- 28:08Speaker 4: The nachos bring a whole helmet, just like AJ was
- 28:13Speaker 4: crushing the other day at Forget where it was Cubs camp.
- 28:17Speaker 2: Cubs Camp, by the way, Mason went had three hours
- 28:20Speaker 2: last year. I was confused. And it's funny when you
- 28:24Speaker 2: look up how many had. One of them was a hit,
- 28:26Speaker 2: they changed to an error, one of them was a
- 28:28Speaker 2: bad hop, they gave an air, and one was a
- 28:30Speaker 2: throw that was quite all three were very questionable. So sorry,
- 28:35Speaker 2: Mason went in one hundred and hold on, how many
- 28:37Speaker 2: game hundred and in one hundred and twenty nine games
- 28:40Speaker 2: at Shortstoff, you made three hours three that's unbelievable number.
- 28:44Speaker 1: That is unbelievable for that position, very impressive and for me. Yeah,
- 28:48Speaker 1: Kratz was missing popcorn. Popcorn is a must. I can
- 28:52Speaker 1: just chow down popcorn NonStop, easy snack. Right, I felt
- 28:58Speaker 1: like you were missing something there. Cool. Let's uh, let's
- 29:02Speaker 1: thank fasten All for sponsoring this segment. This segment engineered

- 29:50Speaker 1: He can't doesn't even have years.

- 29:59Speaker 2: a show? Aaron Judge. Yeah, I'm gonna Aaron Judge.
- 30:04Speaker 4: Aaron Judge eesy. Sorry, Showy's home runs are gonna be
- 30:07Speaker 4: way down when he's pitching a full season. When I
- 30:10Speaker 4: say way down, he might still hit forty. I mean, Judge,
- 30:14Speaker 4: you might. You might be able to pencil in fifty
- 30:17Speaker 4: five for Judge. So I'm gonna say Aaron Judge and
- 30:20Speaker 4: people be like, oh, it gets hurt. Okay, well, I
- 30:22Speaker 4: mean anybody can get hurt. Like I'm not I'm not

- 31:30Speaker 1: I just forced him to sit down, which we love,
- 31:34Speaker 1: we love.
- 31:34Speaker 2: How was that hockey game? How was that hockey game?
- 31:37Speaker 2: By the way, Sorry.
- 31:43Speaker 1: What they say, hey, j if you're going to do
- 31:45Speaker 1: the shout out, you at least have to like bring
- 31:47Speaker 1: us in, bring us into the combo.
- 31:49Speaker 2: Sorry, Pogi is the He was a bullpen catcher while
- 31:51Speaker 2: I was here, and he's still here. He's a Canadian,
- 31:53Speaker 2: so that's why I asked him how the hockey game
- 31:55Speaker 2: treated him.
- 31:55Speaker 1: Wo, that was very nice of you. Yeah, hey, we
- 31:58Speaker 1: got enjoy.
- 31:59Speaker 2: He's the most jacked a bullpen catcher you overseen your life.
- 32:05Speaker 1: I feel like I've seen some other pretty big bullpen catchers. No,
- 32:08Speaker 1: this is the one.
- 32:10Speaker 2: He's big.
