- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an Unspoiled Network podcast. This is spoil Me,
- 0:08Speaker 1: covering one piece episodes seven eighty six and seven through
- 0:15Speaker 1: seven eighty eight Total Land. Emperor Big Mom appears the
- 0:21Speaker 1: Emperor's daughter Sanjay Soanji's fiance Pudding. I'm misspeaking a lot already.
- 0:27Speaker 1: This doesn't bode well. A massive attack Mom's hunger pangs
- 0:35Speaker 1: in these episodes Total Land is both wonderful and terrible.
- 0:45Speaker 1: I have such deeply mixed feelings about the developments of
- 0:49Speaker 1: this plot. Guys, I don't know where I stand. Welcome
- 0:56Speaker 1: to spoil Me, Welcome to the show everyone. I am Natasha.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Thank you very much to Florian for commissioning this episode. So,
- 1:23Speaker 1: y'all Big Mom. Now, I'm going to set aside all
- 1:32Speaker 1: my feelings about a fat character and hunger pangs and
- 1:38Speaker 1: YadA YadA, you know the way that this is being portrayed,
- 1:44Speaker 1: and I am just going to mean into it and
- 1:50Speaker 1: accept Big Mom's whole deal. That said, I really wanted
- 2:03Speaker 1: her to have a much more awesome costume. I am
- 2:08Speaker 1: so disappointed, y'all. The design of this island, the design
- 2:13Speaker 1: of her ship, all of this is really giving. And
- 2:20Speaker 1: then she's just in this like plain pink, almost nightgown
- 2:25Speaker 1: looking dress. She's got really basic makeup and like a
- 2:33Speaker 1: pink wig that's just her hair isn't even that weird
- 2:37Speaker 1: for this show, And then like a tricorn pirate hat.
- 2:45Speaker 1: The only thing about her that's really particularly stands out
- 2:50Speaker 1: in her like overall costume is the pinkness, which you
- 2:55Speaker 1: know that I can get on board with that, but
- 2:58Speaker 1: I just I expect a lot more from the design
- 3:02Speaker 1: of this character. I really thought there would be something
- 3:07Speaker 1: inherently dessert like about her costume, and instead it's just,
- 3:16Speaker 1: you know, I'm sad because, like I still have it
- 3:21Speaker 1: in my head that I wouldn't mind cosplaying her, and
- 3:24Speaker 1: I do still feel that way, and I think that
- 3:29Speaker 1: I would be able to do this quite well. I
- 3:32Speaker 1: have hair of a great texture to try and get
- 3:36Speaker 1: this shape going without even needing a wig all of this.
- 3:40Speaker 1: But guys, it's so bizarre to me, considering the effort
- 3:46Speaker 1: that Oda puts into character design some of the time
- 3:49Speaker 1: for people who don't even show up in the show
- 3:52Speaker 1: very much, and then there's this like big character and
- 3:57Speaker 1: it's just it, it's like everything got assembled out of
- 4:01Speaker 1: stuff that was already in somebody's closet, you know. Saraphim says, yeah,
- 4:06Speaker 1: she's reached the point of being old enough. She just
- 4:08Speaker 1: gives no fucks and wants to be comfy. But being
- 4:11Speaker 1: comfy and being really distinctive are not mutually exclusive, you know.
- 4:16Speaker 1: I just I really thought that I was going to
- 4:20Speaker 1: get something in particular here and I didn't. So I
- 4:23Speaker 1: just really want to register my disappointment there, because everything
- 4:29Speaker 1: surrounding Big Mom is super fun, and she herself is
- 4:35Speaker 1: just so basic that it's almost shocking. I would be
- 4:40Speaker 1: more inclined at this point to coseplay as her ship
- 4:45Speaker 1: than to causeplay as her. That said, I still am
- 4:51Speaker 1: very into the plot that we are beginning to see developing.
- 4:57Speaker 1: So let's start with the beginning of seven eighty six,
- 5:03Speaker 1: where it's Sanji, it's Loofy and Chopper standing there mouths agape,
- 5:13Speaker 1: looking at this whole candy street, and they are trying
- 5:20Speaker 1: to decide what to eat first. Now, Peckham's later actually
- 5:26Speaker 1: explains that there are very specific rules about what you
- 5:30Speaker 1: are and are not allowed to eat. You are definitely
- 5:33Speaker 1: allowed to like indulge. I will say that the rules
- 5:39Speaker 1: are overall very broad. So there's plenty of room within
- 5:48Speaker 1: those rules to really go to town. But even so
- 5:53Speaker 1: they don't even wind up getting in trouble because they
- 5:56Speaker 1: get rescued. So this whole sequence of the two of
- 6:00Speaker 1: them just being so overwhelmed by this place that they
- 6:04Speaker 1: can't even decide where to start. And there's like all
- 6:09Speaker 1: these different things made of chocolate that I also really
- 6:12Speaker 1: wanted to explore, a chocolate bathhouse, which Chopper rightfully is like, wait,
- 6:18Speaker 1: can chocolate make you clean? And I'm like, yeah, I
- 6:21Speaker 1: don't feel like that's how that works. And then they
- 6:24Speaker 1: see chocolate clothes, and when Chopper says can you eat them,
- 6:27Speaker 1: we immediately cut to a guy who's eating his own
- 6:30Speaker 1: sleeve and they just yell he did it, which I
- 6:35Speaker 1: think is fantastic. This look. I have already said what
- 6:42Speaker 1: I was hoping for with the Wonka movie versus what
- 6:48Speaker 1: I got when I was a little kid, And this
- 6:50Speaker 1: is very much leaning into exactly what I was looking for,
- 6:54Speaker 1: which is that every single item should be made of
- 6:56Speaker 1: candy slash chocolate, and it wasn't. And now I'm getting
- 7:02Speaker 1: what I asked for. And the truth is it's because
- 7:05Speaker 1: it's a cartoon, so you can. But I didn't understand
- 7:09Speaker 1: that when I was a kid. You know, there's chocolate fireworks,
- 7:14Speaker 1: which Chopper again, is chocolate explosive. And I just really
- 7:18Speaker 1: like that we have all of these things made of chocolate.
- 7:22Speaker 1: But it's not like they're taking it for granted that
- 7:24Speaker 1: that's doable. Chopper is questioning it every time. It's just like, wait,
- 7:29Speaker 1: does that make sense? So I just love it because
- 7:32Speaker 1: it's sort of acknowledging the inherent silliness of the concept
- 7:37Speaker 1: without actually having to answer the question, which is fine
- 7:40Speaker 1: with me. So then Chopper's nose goes up and he's like,
- 7:47Speaker 1: oh my god, I'm smelling something that's even more yummy
- 7:50Speaker 1: than the other stuff, and Lufy just says, where let's go,
- 7:55Speaker 1: and they take off, and later on we find out
- 7:58Speaker 1: that it is a specific blend of chocolate that Putting
- 8:03Speaker 1: made and you guys, I absolutely this is something that
- 8:09Speaker 1: I have wanted for a long time. But you know
- 8:13Speaker 1: how it is. There are certain things that when they
- 8:15Speaker 1: are very expensive, we can sort of like rationalize to
- 8:18Speaker 1: ourselves why it's worth spending the money on something. Sometimes
- 8:24Speaker 1: that's like just really going to get a lot of use,
- 8:29Speaker 1: you know, that has to last a long time, so
- 8:31Speaker 1: you can be like, oh, I need to invest and
- 8:33Speaker 1: make sure that this lasts and we don't have to
- 8:35Speaker 1: replace it. But then there are things that are one
- 8:40Speaker 1: hundred percent pure indulgence, the kind of thing that you
- 8:44Speaker 1: would never spend money on yourself. And the problem for
- 8:47Speaker 1: me has always been in theory, those things should be
- 8:55Speaker 1: a gift. You would never spend it for yourself, so
- 9:00Speaker 1: it's something perfect for another person to give to you
- 9:03Speaker 1: as a gift, and it's literally you would never choose
- 9:08Speaker 1: to spend your own money on it. But when it
- 9:12Speaker 1: comes to this, it is so expensive that I don't
- 9:16Speaker 1: even want to put it out there for other people
- 9:20Speaker 1: to purchase as a gift. And that is really, really,
- 9:25Speaker 1: really nice quality expensive chocolate. If you have not actually
- 9:32Speaker 1: looked at the pricing on real high end hand dipped chocolate,
- 9:41Speaker 1: especially the types that I'm talking about, which are poured
- 9:45Speaker 1: into these molds and hand painted with like colored cocoa fat,
- 9:52Speaker 1: it's astronomical. A box of like a half pound of
- 9:59Speaker 1: chocolate will be about seventy five dollars, and I just
- 10:05Speaker 1: it's it's almost like it's so expensive in my mind
- 10:10Speaker 1: that I don't even want a gift giver to pay
- 10:12Speaker 1: for it, because I'd rather they spend their seventy five
- 10:16Speaker 1: dollars on a gift that I would be able to reuse.
- 10:20Speaker 1: It's one thing to spend seventy five bucks on an object,
- 10:24Speaker 1: It's another thing to spend it on an item that
- 10:26Speaker 1: is consumed and then gone. And really that's part of
- 10:33Speaker 1: what makes it lovely, right, Like it's an ephemeral thing
- 10:39Speaker 1: that you are indulging in when you get a really,
- 10:43Speaker 1: really nice box of beautiful chocolates. But it's just as
- 10:46Speaker 1: a person who has grown up and now also still
- 10:50Speaker 1: lives with not really enough money to cover everything, it
- 10:56Speaker 1: just feels so irresponsible. So saying all this, what I'm
- 11:02Speaker 1: getting at is that some of these really expensive chocolate brands,
- 11:08Speaker 1: they have what are called flights. You may have seen
- 11:13Speaker 1: that word used with like beers and different types of
- 11:18Speaker 1: sliders as well. A lot of restaurants will have flights
- 11:21Speaker 1: for different types of a thing that you can sample
- 11:25Speaker 1: all of the variety of flavors, and chocolate is no different.
- 11:30Speaker 1: There are different growing conditions around the world for cocoa beans,
- 11:37Speaker 1: just the same way there are for grapes when you're
- 11:40Speaker 1: making wine. So the types of chocolate that you get
- 11:46Speaker 1: from Africa versus South America, versus India. It's all going
- 11:52Speaker 1: to be really different from each other. And I have
- 11:56Speaker 1: always wanted to try some of these flights that have
- 11:59Speaker 1: chocolate from around the world. There's a similar thing with
- 12:02Speaker 1: different types of vanilla. Vanilla, like Madagascar Bourbon vanilla is
- 12:07Speaker 1: the most popular, famous type of gourmet vanilla, and it's
- 12:12Speaker 1: got a flavor profile that's very familiar and is what
- 12:15Speaker 1: most people want when they use vanilla. But there are
- 12:19Speaker 1: also different types of vanilla. You know. We have Tahitian,
- 12:23Speaker 1: we have Mexican, we have Indonesian, and I have always
- 12:28Speaker 1: wanted to see, like what's the difference. I would love
- 12:30Speaker 1: to try them side by side and see what they're
- 12:32Speaker 1: like and if I can tell. And the other thing
- 12:37Speaker 1: that really, in a way, the show is dealing with
- 12:42Speaker 1: chocolate is an extremely fraud product because it is what
- 12:53Speaker 1: The fact is that for the majority of big chocolate
- 13:00Speaker 1: companies that make mass produced chocolates like Snickers and you know,
- 13:05Speaker 1: anything that you can get at like a grocery store,
- 13:08Speaker 1: including Gia Delli's, you know things like that, all of
- 13:12Speaker 1: them rely on slave labor. Every single one of them
- 13:17Speaker 1: that is simply a fact, and it's why fair trade
- 13:24Speaker 1: chocolate is a thing. I have personally tried really really
- 13:29Speaker 1: hard over the last few years to severely cut back
- 13:34Speaker 1: on the amount of chocolate that I am consuming from
- 13:38Speaker 1: those brands. And even when I buy chocolate chips, I'm
- 13:41Speaker 1: trying to get them from Boutard, which is a brand
- 13:46Speaker 1: that you can find in like nicer grocery stores, and
- 13:49Speaker 1: they their chocolate chips are fair trade and they are
- 13:53Speaker 1: extremely good quality. Once you try them, you're gonna have
- 13:57Speaker 1: a hard time going back to Nesli, I'll tell you that.
- 14:00Speaker 1: But the show, it's like, we have a whole sequence
- 14:06Speaker 1: later where they are raiding these surrounding islands for fruit,
- 14:14Speaker 1: for flour, for all of the ingredients that they are
- 14:18Speaker 1: going to need to make things, and it seems out
- 14:24Speaker 1: of like it seems like super villain shit. But honestly,
- 14:30Speaker 1: this isn't really that far off from the way the
- 14:34Speaker 1: United States actually handles things. We come in and we
- 14:41Speaker 1: take over and seize land and give people pennies per
- 14:48Speaker 1: day to slave. And I use that word very purposefully
- 14:56Speaker 1: in conditions that are incredibly unsafe, with barely any rest,
- 15:02Speaker 1: barely any food, barely any medical attention. A lot of
- 15:07Speaker 1: times these folks don't even have homes. There is like
- 15:11Speaker 1: one huge building that they are all made to come
- 15:14Speaker 1: and sleep in on the floor because we don't even
- 15:17Speaker 1: provide them beds. And this is not really unusual. What
- 15:21Speaker 1: I'm describing sounds extreme, but when you start looking into
- 15:25Speaker 1: the nature of chocolate farming, this is actually kind of
- 15:30Speaker 1: standard with bigger brands, and it's been quoted. I am
- 15:34Speaker 1: trying to remember what company it was, because I feel
- 15:36Speaker 1: like it was somebody from Nesley, but I might be
- 15:38Speaker 1: off on this. When I was reading an article about
- 15:41Speaker 1: fair trade chocolate and slavery with chocolate, there was a
- 15:48Speaker 1: brand that had a spokesperson who actually said the words,
- 15:54Speaker 1: if we were to pay everybody a living wage, nobody
- 15:58Speaker 1: in the United States would be able to will afford
- 16:01Speaker 1: our product. First of all, I don't believe you. Just
- 16:06Speaker 1: straight up, let's just get that out of the way.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Whenever somebody at the top of a chain tries to
- 16:12Speaker 1: say we can't give the bottom part of the chain
- 16:15Speaker 1: more because then it would inflate the price. No it wouldn't.
- 16:18Speaker 1: It would just decrease your profits. Those are not the
- 16:21Speaker 1: same thing. But let's say that, then Americans couldn't afford
- 16:26Speaker 1: your product to be as dirt cheap as it is.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Maybe that's fine. Maybe if it were more expensive to
- 16:39Speaker 1: buy candy, we would be okay, it would be okay.
- 16:46Speaker 1: You know, I'm not really concerned about us not being
- 16:49Speaker 1: able to afford a luxury product like chocolate versus not
- 16:54Speaker 1: being able to afford basics like you know, fruits and
- 16:58Speaker 1: vegetables that we actually need for a balanced diet. I
- 17:02Speaker 1: think that maybe not enslaving people is worth having more
- 17:09Speaker 1: expensive chocolate. I just call me crazy. And so you know,
- 17:15Speaker 1: there is a saying there is no responsible consumption under
- 17:22Speaker 1: capitalism or something like that, and I know that that
- 17:26Speaker 1: is true. But I also think it can be a
- 17:28Speaker 1: real easy get out of jail free card when you
- 17:31Speaker 1: just kind of don't want to change anything about your
- 17:33Speaker 1: habits and consumption. And I think that you need to,
- 17:38Speaker 1: if you're gonna be honest with yourself, take a look
- 17:39Speaker 1: at some of the things that are crucial that you
- 17:43Speaker 1: really can't negotiate on. For example, I shop at Walmart
- 17:48Speaker 1: for my groceries, and it sucks, but they are the
- 17:53Speaker 1: closest grocery store to me, and they have many products
- 17:57Speaker 1: that I can't get at other stores, and they are
- 18:01Speaker 1: much less expensive. All of this combines for with my income,
- 18:06Speaker 1: I have to shop there. I really can't afford not to.
- 18:10Speaker 1: But I don't need chocolate chips. I don't have to
- 18:17Speaker 1: have them. That's not a requirement for me, and so
- 18:21Speaker 1: I am willing to take the extra step for that
- 18:26Speaker 1: and only get fair trade chocolate chips because it's not
- 18:30Speaker 1: a necessity and it is a place where I can
- 18:32Speaker 1: choose to make a more informed and compassionate choice. And
- 18:38Speaker 1: this is not meant to shame anybody who's buying regular chocolate.
- 18:41Speaker 1: I'm just saying that, like, there is truth to you
- 18:48Speaker 1: the consumption under capitalism, but also there are places where
- 18:52Speaker 1: we could do better, and just throwing our hands up
- 18:55Speaker 1: and being cynical about how nothing we do can help
- 19:00Speaker 1: isn't really honest either. So I'm just really I think
- 19:08Speaker 1: it's interesting the plot that's developing, and I'm curious, like
- 19:14Speaker 1: how much of this is really commentary and on purpose,
- 19:19Speaker 1: and how much of it is just sort of a
- 19:22Speaker 1: greedy person is going to dominate everybody else in order
- 19:28Speaker 1: to get what they want. In a really basic sense,
- 19:31Speaker 1: you know, that's that's a classic storyline that you could follow.
- 19:36Speaker 1: So as this continues on, eventually we get to a
- 19:41Speaker 1: point where we see that Big Mom has a as
- 19:45Speaker 1: they call it, a condition, and she is demanding a
- 19:53Speaker 1: chrocum bouche, which, for those who don't know what that is,
- 19:57Speaker 1: they're like, it's little cream puff that it's like a
- 20:02Speaker 1: pastry that puffs up into a sphere. You slice it
- 20:06Speaker 1: in half, you fill it with I think Bavarian cream,
- 20:11Speaker 1: and then you stick them to a cone shaped mold
- 20:19Speaker 1: and create this like sugar thread by heating sugar, putting
- 20:26Speaker 1: them like dipping the end of a whisk and shaking it.
- 20:30Speaker 1: So it makes these long strains of thread that are sugar,
- 20:33Speaker 1: and you decorate the chrocum bouche on top with all
- 20:36Speaker 1: of that sugar, and it's beautiful. It's extremely intricate, like
- 20:43Speaker 1: the every step to make it. It's not super difficult
- 20:47Speaker 1: each thing, but it is time consuming. So the fact
- 20:51Speaker 1: that she's getting a craving, but the craving is for
- 20:54Speaker 1: something as complex as a chrocum boushe is very very
- 20:57Speaker 1: funny to me. I just think that is like it's
- 21:00Speaker 1: such a specific thing, and I really do enjoy that
- 21:04Speaker 1: because as somebody who is a foodie. Sometimes I will
- 21:07Speaker 1: have this as well, where I have a craving and
- 21:09Speaker 1: it's for something so specific that, like, I don't think
- 21:13Speaker 1: my husband would even know what it was if I
- 21:15Speaker 1: tried to explain it to him, you know, And I
- 21:20Speaker 1: don't live in an area where this stuff is easy
- 21:22Speaker 1: to find. It's some of us might be able to
- 21:26Speaker 1: just go down to our local patisserie and buy a
- 21:29Speaker 1: fucking crokuombouche. I don't have one of those. I don't
- 21:32Speaker 1: have patisseriri. I would probably have to drive an hour
- 21:35Speaker 1: and a half into Dallas to find one. And it's
- 21:38Speaker 1: a real I have no idea what the likelihood is
- 21:40Speaker 1: of it being any good. So this whole thing with
- 21:45Speaker 1: her having these like cravings and her eyes turned red
- 21:48Speaker 1: and she's just completely decimating the area around her as
- 21:53Speaker 1: she stalks through it trying to find the thing to
- 21:56Speaker 1: solve her craving. My friend, this is the most relatable
- 22:02Speaker 1: shit in the world. This is me on my period,
- 22:06Speaker 1: and like, I know, anybody out there who gets a
- 22:12Speaker 1: period knows what I'm fucking talking about. There is actual
- 22:16Speaker 1: science to prove that chocolate while on your period can
- 22:22Speaker 1: help with symptoms and I'm not getting into all that
- 22:25Speaker 1: right now, but it's a real thing, and I will
- 22:29Speaker 1: crave chocolate and I will also crave red meat and
- 22:34Speaker 1: carbohydrates when I am on my period. It is a
- 22:39Speaker 1: drive that is so strong that I can't explain how
- 22:45Speaker 1: single minded it becomes. And there have been times where
- 22:49Speaker 1: I am so desperate for whatever carb I want at
- 22:54Speaker 1: the time that I will really go out of my
- 22:58Speaker 1: way to either make it scratch when I kind of
- 23:01Speaker 1: don't have the time, or go find it out somewhere
- 23:05Speaker 1: when I probably shouldn't be spending the money. Like everything
- 23:09Speaker 1: about this is very much like recognizable behavior to me,
- 23:16Speaker 1: and I just I am. I am really enjoying all
- 23:22Speaker 1: of this, even though there's still a little voice in
- 23:24Speaker 1: my head whispering about like the fat person being like
- 23:30Speaker 1: a glutton always as the plot point. Fine, yes that's true,
- 23:35Speaker 1: but I am willing to just look past it because
- 23:39Speaker 1: the rest of this is so much fun. I'm sorry,
- 23:44Speaker 1: I just saw Sarah em like I said, we need
- 23:47Speaker 1: double the episodes for this arc just for the food talk.
- 23:50Speaker 1: Probably it'll be fine, but like, yeah, I could see
- 23:54Speaker 1: why you feel that way. Florian says, I had it
- 23:56Speaker 1: once loved it talking about Krokomboush. I'm assuming Florian. Yeah,
- 24:00Speaker 1: it's good. It's funny too, because you would really think
- 24:03Speaker 1: that that sugar thread is just decoration, but the pastry
- 24:08Speaker 1: is not that sweet, so the sugar thread really adds
- 24:11Speaker 1: something because it's only lightly caramelized, but it's like a
- 24:14Speaker 1: texture thing and it's an extra sweetness thing, and it's
- 24:19Speaker 1: just divine what it's made. Those little puffballs are made
- 24:23Speaker 1: with what's called shoe pastry choux, which is a type
- 24:28Speaker 1: of dough that is actually made on the stovetop. You
- 24:31Speaker 1: cook it on the stove to get it to the
- 24:33Speaker 1: right consistency, and then you put that dough in a
- 24:36Speaker 1: piping bag and you squeeze that out and bake it
- 24:40Speaker 1: and that's when it really puffs. And that same dough
- 24:42Speaker 1: is what they use to make it clears. And there's
- 24:46Speaker 1: another thing that they make that I remember. It's called
- 24:49Speaker 1: religious I think is how you say it in French.
- 24:52Speaker 1: And they're these little things that are two balls, one
- 24:55Speaker 1: smaller than the other sitting on top and they are
- 24:59Speaker 1: they have like chocolate and vanilla, and they're called relig
- 25:01Speaker 1: just because they look like nuns when they have their
- 25:04Speaker 1: like chocolate and vanilla on them. They look like little nuns,
- 25:07Speaker 1: which I always thought was adorable. But anyway, I might
- 25:12Speaker 1: have to make this stuff, guys. It's really I think
- 25:15Speaker 1: I might have to do this. It's we're getting into
- 25:17Speaker 1: baking season, and a lot of this stuff are things
- 25:21Speaker 1: that I made when I was in pastry and baking
- 25:23Speaker 1: school and then never made again. And now I'm kind
- 25:26Speaker 1: of feeling like I want to, you know what I'm saying.
- 25:29Speaker 1: So anyway, all right, I've talked about a lot of things,
- 25:32Speaker 1: so I don't feel too bad about taking us off
- 25:35Speaker 1: topic here for a bit, because I really it's not
- 25:38Speaker 1: that off topic. I'm pretty much still talking about a
- 25:41Speaker 1: lot of the plot beats and I while i'm here,
- 25:48Speaker 1: I will talk about what's going on with this Bonker's
- 25:55Speaker 1: song that Big Mom sings, because my friends, this is
- 26:01Speaker 1: so odd. Now I know that a lot of what
- 26:07Speaker 1: feels odd about it is actually a translation issue. It's
- 26:13Speaker 1: one thing for songs to be dissonant in order to
- 26:17Speaker 1: excuse me, in order to like get across that something
- 26:22Speaker 1: here is very twisted, you know, about whatever it is
- 26:26Speaker 1: that they're saying or the intent. It's another thing for
- 26:32Speaker 1: it to be a dissonant tune and for the words
- 26:37Speaker 1: to not really fall into a rhythm or rhyme with
- 26:42Speaker 1: each other or anything. It's like I said, I'm certain
- 26:46Speaker 1: that it's a translation thing, and that if you were
- 26:49Speaker 1: to see this with the actual original Japanese that it
- 26:55Speaker 1: does have like a rhyming scheme or a rhythm to it,
- 26:59Speaker 1: But something about it not having either of those things
- 27:03Speaker 1: just makes it feel all the more disturbing as you're watching.
- 27:08Speaker 1: And then basically it's all about how I'm about to
- 27:12Speaker 1: have a party. I'm so excited about all the food,
- 27:15Speaker 1: and yes, probably people were killed in order to provide
- 27:20Speaker 1: this food. I don't care. This is what I want,
- 27:24Speaker 1: fuck you all. And it's such a bright and happy look.
- 27:32Speaker 1: Like the sound of the song is in itself very dissonant.
- 27:36Speaker 1: But if you were only watching this without the sound
- 27:42Speaker 1: at all, if it weren't for big Mom's evil expression
- 27:50Speaker 1: and the sort of like you know, look that she
- 27:52Speaker 1: has going on. Mostly it's like dancing furniture and to
- 28:00Speaker 1: people setting tables and a very like kind of be
- 28:04Speaker 1: our guest sort of energy with a more cartoonish feel.
- 28:10Speaker 1: That's what it looks like. But once you actually hear it.
- 28:14Speaker 1: It's giving more the song of the Oogie Boogie sings
- 28:20Speaker 1: in Nightmare before Christmas, and it's just remind me if
- 28:27Speaker 1: I'm wrong, Guys, is this the first time we have
- 28:34Speaker 1: actually had like a full on musical number, because I
- 28:41Speaker 1: know that we have had songs like Brooke. You know,
- 28:45Speaker 1: he's been going and doing concerts and stuff, and I'm
- 28:49Speaker 1: trying to remember if there were like a bunch of
- 28:53Speaker 1: people participating as he walked around to town singing along
- 28:57Speaker 1: with him. I feel like it's pretty much been him
- 28:59Speaker 1: one and it's very much like, yeah, but he's performing
- 29:05Speaker 1: right now. In story, the fact that he is singing
- 29:09Speaker 1: makes sense and is part of the plot. But here
- 29:13Speaker 1: this is feeling very like spontaneously breaking out into song
- 29:18Speaker 1: because I'm so overwhelmed by my emotions like a musical,
- 29:22Speaker 1: you know what I mean, which is different and uh okay.
- 29:26Speaker 1: Sarahim says, no, this is the first non Brook based
- 29:30Speaker 1: musical number. Musical number. Florien' says Soga king theme did
- 29:37Speaker 1: people break out and sing and dance with that? I
- 29:40Speaker 1: don't remember, Sarahim says, at least that I can think of.
- 29:43Speaker 1: That isn't a musical number that is an anime opening.
- 29:47Speaker 1: Oh oh, okay, now I know what Floria's talking about. Yeah, no, Florian,
- 29:50Speaker 1: that doesn't count. I'm talking about people like in a
- 29:54Speaker 1: scene who are all like having a moment, and then
- 29:59Speaker 1: the entire ensemble in that scene all sings and dances.
- 30:03Speaker 1: So we've never seen that before, right, And I'm kind
- 30:07Speaker 1: of feeling like that the fact that that is happening
- 30:11Speaker 1: with this character is also kind of a nod to
- 30:16Speaker 1: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, because there were weird
- 30:19Speaker 1: moments in that where people would sing and dance and
- 30:22Speaker 1: it was sort of like odd when it would happen.
- 30:28Speaker 1: So anyway, I uh, all of this adds up to
- 30:33Speaker 1: I'm very into it. I really really am enjoying this
- 30:38Speaker 1: so much and so excited to see. Like it's a
- 30:42Speaker 1: shame that we have to leave this Chocolate Island as
- 30:44Speaker 1: soon as we do, but I'm sure we'll get back
- 30:48Speaker 1: here eventually. So I'm backing up again to the episode.
- 30:58Speaker 1: The part of the episode. First of all, Nammy and
- 31:02Speaker 1: Carrot are both being given costume changes, and I just
- 31:08Speaker 1: want to note it's for some reason only ever the
- 31:14Speaker 1: women characters that have to change their outfits where when
- 31:17Speaker 1: they go to a new place, you know, like, look,
- 31:21Speaker 1: I know that Nami's character, part of the deal with
- 31:25Speaker 1: her is that she loves clothes. However, I will point
- 31:31Speaker 1: out in the past it's also been her and Robin
- 31:36Speaker 1: who have had to change clothes. And the fact that
- 31:40Speaker 1: it's just again the two women, it's not lost on me.
- 31:45Speaker 1: And of course the appod always has to be something
- 31:47Speaker 1: hyper sexualized, and here it's this like kind of peasant top,
- 31:53Speaker 1: super low cut mini skirt thing, and it's very cute,
- 31:57Speaker 1: don't get me wrong, but you know, it's really I
- 32:01Speaker 1: see what you're doing here. And then we have Carrott,
- 32:05Speaker 1: who is also wearing something that's like a mini dress basically,
- 32:09Speaker 1: and she looks adorable. It's a whole weird thing with her.
- 32:15Speaker 1: I don't know what to think about her character. And
- 32:18Speaker 1: then Brooke, of course has to be on the ground
- 32:24Speaker 1: trying to see up Nami's skirt. Guys, all I ask
- 32:36Speaker 1: is that we just remove this part of Brooke's personality.
- 32:42Speaker 1: I just want to love him. I just want to
- 32:45Speaker 1: be allowed to love Brooke without any except fors and
- 32:52Speaker 1: I can't. I'm not allowed to do it. There's a
- 32:57Speaker 1: there's was like somewhere I saw where a person was
- 33:01Speaker 1: saying talking about like people's least favorite one piece characters.
- 33:06Speaker 1: They were asking other folks and I just like perused
- 33:10Speaker 1: briefly to see what people said. And somebody said Brook
- 33:15Speaker 1: and I was, as you can imagine, clutching my pearls
- 33:19Speaker 1: at that response because I love him so much. But
- 33:22Speaker 1: every time something like this happens, I kind of wonder
- 33:25Speaker 1: if this is the reason. And then I can't really
- 33:27Speaker 1: fault the person, you know, because it is m it's tedious.
- 33:35Speaker 1: So this whole thing ends with Peckham's after he gives
- 33:40Speaker 1: this what do you call it a lecture? He delivers
- 33:45Speaker 1: this lecture to Kara about what you are and aren't
- 33:48Speaker 1: allowed to eat on the island, and I love when
- 33:51Speaker 1: he asks her, are you even listening to me? And
- 33:53Speaker 1: she says that was pretty complicated, So no, I actually
- 33:58Speaker 1: laughed out loud. I appreciate you just admitting it. That's fine.
- 34:04Speaker 1: And then when he's starting to yell about this, he
- 34:14Speaker 1: realizes that both Lufy and Chopper are gone. They have
- 34:22Speaker 1: taken off. They don't know the rules. And I love
- 34:25Speaker 1: the way that this the response from Nami is pure,
- 34:31Speaker 1: that's okay. They won't be missing for very long. And
- 34:34Speaker 1: then you just hear people in the town beginning to
- 34:38Speaker 1: beginning to exclaim, and she goes, see, there they are
- 34:42Speaker 1: right now, and I was just like, oh my god, really,
- 34:47Speaker 1: so these two have gone and eaten an entire cafe,
- 34:55Speaker 1: And I you, guys, what would have happened to them
- 35:08Speaker 1: if it weren't for putting showing up on site? What
- 35:13Speaker 1: would have happened? Would they have been thrown in jail?
- 35:17Speaker 1: I'm assuming or find or something. Anyway, the bit here
- 35:24Speaker 1: is that they are both just so overloaded with chocolate
- 35:29Speaker 1: that they can barely move, and when pudding comes up
- 35:33Speaker 1: and is just like covering for them, she gives them
- 35:37Speaker 1: a couple of like what I keep thinking of, there
- 35:41Speaker 1: are these like mass produced cookies that you can buy
- 35:46Speaker 1: in Britain that are I think wafers or cookies with
- 35:51Speaker 1: jam between, and then they're covered in chocolate, and what
- 35:54Speaker 1: she's handing them looks like that kind of to me.
- 35:57Speaker 1: I can't remember the name of them. I keep wanting
- 35:59Speaker 1: to say Jammy Dodge, and I don't think that's right.
- 36:02Speaker 1: But she like offers these to them and they don't
- 36:06Speaker 1: even reach out to take them. They just literally open
- 36:09Speaker 1: their mouths, and I I just the fact that they
- 36:14Speaker 1: go ah and they just let her feed them is
- 36:17Speaker 1: endlessly funny to me. So she covers for them by
- 36:21Speaker 1: saying that her cafe was about to expire anyway, and
- 36:25Speaker 1: that she hired them to eat it, which I really
- 36:29Speaker 1: enjoy that the man who's talking to them at that
- 36:31Speaker 1: point calls them a demolition crew. I thought that was
- 36:35Speaker 1: very cute. And basically it's like he says something like, well,
- 36:40Speaker 1: you do need to put up signs if you're going
- 36:42Speaker 1: to be doing that, and also wait till the customers
- 36:45Speaker 1: are gone, which I'm just imagining them literally eating the
- 36:48Speaker 1: chairs out from under customers, like you know what I'm saying,
- 36:53Speaker 1: just fucking like jaws coming up from underneath them. And
- 36:58Speaker 1: they wind up like the whole crew that had been
- 37:02Speaker 1: on the ship with Peckham's the rest of them. They
- 37:06Speaker 1: come running in to try and get like fix the problem,
- 37:11Speaker 1: and they arrived just in time to see putting cover
- 37:15Speaker 1: up for them. And I should mention putting like flies
- 37:18Speaker 1: in on a magic carpet. This is a weird one.
- 37:22Speaker 1: I don't really know what to make of this. It
- 37:24Speaker 1: doesn't feel exactly on theme. So that's part of what's
- 37:28Speaker 1: sort of odd for me. But the other thing is
- 37:36Speaker 1: that the sound effect they have decided to use for
- 37:39Speaker 1: when this carpet is flying bums me out. Man. It
- 37:45Speaker 1: is so high pitched and kind of squeally that my dogs,
- 37:50Speaker 1: they were asleep on the couch when this sound effect began,
- 37:53Speaker 1: they both sat up. They both like awoke because they
- 37:56Speaker 1: were going, what the fuck is that noise? And I
- 37:58Speaker 1: can't help but agree with that, to be honest, like,
- 38:01Speaker 1: I did not care for this, and I don't really
- 38:03Speaker 1: I didn't feel like that sound effect suits a flying carpet.
- 38:10Speaker 1: I thought it should have much more of like a
- 38:12Speaker 1: kind of whoosh, you know what I'm saying. So anyway,
- 38:17Speaker 1: I really wanted, like I want them to change this sound.
- 38:23Speaker 1: I wonder if it's the same one as in the
- 38:25Speaker 1: original or not. But anyway, the flying carpet thing, I
- 38:33Speaker 1: will say, at the very least carpet carpet. We're getting
- 38:40Speaker 1: another object singing its name, and you know I'm here
- 38:44Speaker 1: for it. Kids. I love it. This thing, especially since
- 38:51Speaker 1: the word carpet actually is two syllables, is perfect. It
- 38:57Speaker 1: works out so well. I'm very very into it. So
- 39:01Speaker 1: the arrival of her is very dramatic on the back
- 39:05Speaker 1: of this flying carpet, and then she covers for them
- 39:10Speaker 1: and invites them back to her place. And what she
- 39:14Speaker 1: says is because they thank her for getting them out
- 39:22Speaker 1: of this jam that they were in. Eh, jam Oh,
- 39:30Speaker 1: I didn't. It's fine Jaffa cakes. That's the cookie. I'm
- 39:34Speaker 1: thinking of. Jaffa cakes. Saraphim also said, Jammie Dodgers, I know,
- 39:39Speaker 1: but they don't have chocolate. But no, it's Jaffa cakes,
- 39:41Speaker 1: that's the thing. She tells them how much it meant
- 39:49Speaker 1: to her that they loved what she made so much
- 39:53Speaker 1: that she's like, it's because of what you said that
- 39:58Speaker 1: it was too good to resu and that was what
- 40:02Speaker 1: made me feel like it was all worth it. And
- 40:06Speaker 1: she describes the way that she made it too. And
- 40:09Speaker 1: I'm trying to find the moment here, I'm the one
- 40:12Speaker 1: who should be thinking all of you because of what
- 40:15Speaker 1: you said that it was too delicious, And her face
- 40:20Speaker 1: gets all red and she puts her hands over her
- 40:22Speaker 1: face and sais and says, it's a new blend I
- 40:24Speaker 1: just came up with. Did it melt in your mouth properly?
- 40:28Speaker 1: I added milk to cocoa butter and mixed it with
- 40:31Speaker 1: a high purity beet sugar needed for three days straight
- 40:36Speaker 1: at twenty six degrees precisely, and beet sugar. I'm not
- 40:42Speaker 1: sure I've had chocolate made with beet sugar. I've had
- 40:44Speaker 1: it with coconut sugar. I'm trying to think, but I
- 40:48Speaker 1: am fascinated. You know, I want a tasting. I want
- 40:51Speaker 1: a flight of chocolate tastings like please. And as she's
- 40:58Speaker 1: talking to them, by the way, Lufy and Chopper are
- 41:02Speaker 1: continuing to eat despite having been so completely overstuffed that
- 41:08Speaker 1: they couldn't move earlier. Brooke also is very much like
- 41:15Speaker 1: falling in love with Pudding and extremely jealous when he
- 41:20Speaker 1: eventually finds out that she is Sangie's I'm trying to
- 41:28Speaker 1: find the word not alleged, but ugh, I'm trying to
- 41:35Speaker 1: I can't think of the word, but his fiance. And
- 41:39Speaker 1: we find out that he actually told her that as
- 41:43Speaker 1: much as he would like to marry her, he can't
- 41:46Speaker 1: do it. And this is when they all their jaws
- 41:49Speaker 1: drop at the fact that he actually rejected a woman.
- 41:55Speaker 1: I am very much for the record shipping Soanji and
- 42:06Speaker 1: Pudding I the two of them both love to cook.
- 42:15Speaker 1: He likes to do savory stuff, she likes to do
- 42:18Speaker 1: chocolate desserts. She takes it super seriously obviously, and is
- 42:26Speaker 1: the exact type to appreciate the over attentiveness of a
- 42:32Speaker 1: guy like Sanji that I think many women would find
- 42:35Speaker 1: really really annoying. I need Sanji to get married now.
- 42:42Speaker 1: I'm just gonna say it. I don't care about all
- 42:47Speaker 1: of the complications that will result due to alliances, YadA YadA.
- 42:55Speaker 1: I don't care these two loo. If I'm being real
- 43:01Speaker 1: with you all, I'm very much looking at all of
- 43:05Speaker 1: this like I'm trying to staff the Sonny with the
- 43:11Speaker 1: perfect people to sustain our friends with like fantastic food.
- 43:17Speaker 1: And if we have both her and Soangy, we have
- 43:21Speaker 1: got an unbeatable situation. You know, We've got incredible savories
- 43:27Speaker 1: and sweets from two people who love doing it, who
- 43:32Speaker 1: are in the kitchen together and like each other. I mean,
- 43:36Speaker 1: it just doesn't seem like it gets better than that.
- 43:39Speaker 1: So I am shipping them, and if it turns out
- 43:44Speaker 1: that they can't be together for some reason, I will
- 43:48Speaker 1: genuinely be bummed about it. I feel like there has
- 43:52Speaker 1: to be a way that he marries her and also
- 43:57Speaker 1: gets to stay with the straw hats. I don't care.
- 44:00Speaker 1: I just think there has to be a way. Figure
- 44:02Speaker 1: it out, guys, figure out a way to get her
- 44:05Speaker 1: to be removed from the family somehow or I don't know,
- 44:09Speaker 1: but it has to be done. These two are destined
- 44:14Speaker 1: for one another. Figure it out, you know. Sarahim says,
- 44:20Speaker 1: Lufi has at least a rubber stomach, choppers should have
- 44:22Speaker 1: to go into one of his bigger forms to fit
- 44:24Speaker 1: all that food in. I like that idea. Both of
- 44:26Speaker 1: them would be a disaster. Lufy would be in a
- 44:28Speaker 1: food coma the entire time. Okay, that might not be
- 44:31Speaker 1: a bad thing, honestly. Yeah, anything to just sort of
- 44:34Speaker 1: keep him from interfering with all of the other stuff
- 44:36Speaker 1: that he could fuck up on the ship is fine.
- 44:38Speaker 1: It's fine keep him distracted. So yeah, it was also
- 44:44Speaker 1: interesting because, like, you guys know that when we first
- 44:47Speaker 1: saw her picture in the last group of episodes, I said, like,
- 44:51Speaker 1: I wonder if she's actually as sweet as she looks
- 44:53Speaker 1: or if she's secretly a monster. And it is funny
- 44:58Speaker 1: that I didn't even can consider the pun of like,
- 45:01Speaker 1: is she as sweet as she looks. But it turns
- 45:04Speaker 1: out like she is. She's just as sweet as she looks,
- 45:08Speaker 1: and all like almost to a point of me being like,
- 45:12Speaker 1: all right, tone it down, but I still so far
- 45:16Speaker 1: and finding her quite likable. So we'll see if that
- 45:20Speaker 1: is sustained. Who knows, So let's see. I'm trying to
- 45:26Speaker 1: go and make sure that I'm not missing anything here
- 45:29Speaker 1: because I have to scrub over into the next episode,
- 45:35Speaker 1: did you do Let's see. Oh right, So eventually they
- 45:39Speaker 1: get to the point where they're just like, look, here's
- 45:43Speaker 1: the thing. We're trying to rescue him from this because
- 45:49Speaker 1: of the whole alliance thing. We don't want him to
- 45:52Speaker 1: be part of Big Mom's crew. And she's like, all right,
- 45:59Speaker 1: you know what, I would give up soangy if it's
- 46:07Speaker 1: necessary for his health and safety and happiness and whatever.
- 46:13Speaker 1: If that is what has to happen, then fine. And
- 46:18Speaker 1: it was just a nice moment, you know, of her
- 46:21Speaker 1: being like, I do actually really like this guy and
- 46:25Speaker 1: care about him, but that doesn't mean that I am
- 46:30Speaker 1: selfish about wanting what I want. Regardless, I am willing
- 46:35Speaker 1: to put his happiness and joy first, and that is
- 46:41Speaker 1: unfortunately not something a lot of people are able to
- 46:45Speaker 1: do when they love someone. They seem to think that
- 46:48Speaker 1: love means that they just get to do whatever they
- 46:51Speaker 1: want and use the fact that they love the person
- 46:55Speaker 1: as a kind of weapon against them. And it's always
- 47:00Speaker 1: really sad to watch that happen because I have always
- 47:03Speaker 1: felt just like, wow, you are really entirely missing the point.
- 47:09Speaker 1: But she understands how much this means to Sanji because
- 47:15Speaker 1: of him talking to her. He actually said, I'd love
- 47:20Speaker 1: for this to be the thing, but I just can't
- 47:22Speaker 1: do it, and she heard him, Wow, I didn't think
- 47:25Speaker 1: that that was something that was going to be so
- 47:27Speaker 1: difficult to find in life, but you know, there it is.
- 47:33Speaker 1: So let's see, she says, I know it's hard to
- 47:36Speaker 1: trust me because I'm one of Big Mom's children, and
- 47:39Speaker 1: Nami says, well, sort of, and she says, honestly, I'm
- 47:43Speaker 1: afraid to make her angry. But even so, if Soanji
- 47:48Speaker 1: is your friend and you came here to take him back,
- 47:51Speaker 1: then I'll help you. And let's see, she's my mom,
- 47:58Speaker 1: but I'm my own person, and she mentions how many
- 48:04Speaker 1: members of the family there are. It turns out that
- 48:06Speaker 1: Big Mom has like a harem of husbands. I think
- 48:10Speaker 1: she says she's got like forty eight husbands something like that,
- 48:15Speaker 1: and each of them has got like six kids. The
- 48:22Speaker 1: idea that she has this many biological children is bananas, Like,
- 48:27Speaker 1: how does that even work? Is that supposed to be
- 48:30Speaker 1: part of why she's craving things is that she's fucking
- 48:35Speaker 1: perpetually pregnant, Because that would be really funny. It's not
- 48:39Speaker 1: even just that she's fat, it's that she is pregnant
- 48:42Speaker 1: all the time, and so she constantly wants weird sweets
- 48:47Speaker 1: because she's just overcome with these these pregnancy cravings. I
- 48:52Speaker 1: wouldn't hate that as a plot device, actually, I think
- 48:55Speaker 1: that'd be kind of funny. So she sits down and
- 49:02Speaker 1: she draws a map for them, and let's see, I'm
- 49:09Speaker 1: trying to find the spot where she explains this. She says,
- 49:14Speaker 1: the people of Toto Land, they gave us their blessing.
- 49:19Speaker 1: They're celebrating, and I'm assuming everybody on this island would
- 49:25Speaker 1: be part of the party. She says, they're like the
- 49:30Speaker 1: Vince Smoke family is excited as well. They are looking
- 49:34Speaker 1: She's looking forward to the wedding cake and I've dreamed
- 49:40Speaker 1: about my wedding day. Since I was little, I wondered
- 49:43Speaker 1: about my soulmate, what he'd be like. Then one day
- 49:47Speaker 1: I got to meet my sangi and then we get
- 49:51Speaker 1: the scene of him walking up to her and everybody
- 49:54Speaker 1: being stunned that he rejected her. And let's see, I
- 50:01Speaker 1: can't take him away from you. Brooke is fucking sobbing, crying.
- 50:07Speaker 1: The heart wants what the heart wants, as they say,
- 50:10Speaker 1: which is why if this is what Sanji's heart wants,
- 50:14Speaker 1: I'm in, let me help you. And there's all of
- 50:20Speaker 1: these different islands and she shows them the root, cacao, jam, nuts, candy,
- 50:28Speaker 1: and eventually whole Cake Island. Oh, Biscuits is another one
- 50:33Speaker 1: because some of it's out of frame so it's hard
- 50:35Speaker 1: to see. I do wonder why it's whole cake and
- 50:40Speaker 1: not just cake island. I'm I feel like there has
- 50:44Speaker 1: to be something like idiomatic about that. I say, we
- 50:49Speaker 1: rendezvous tomorrow at the coast right here, okay, and she
- 50:52Speaker 1: points out this spot. I promise I'll bring Sanjy there,
- 50:56Speaker 1: whatever the cost, let's all work together. And Nami's like,
- 51:02Speaker 1: do you think big mom will punish you? And she says, Mama,
- 51:05Speaker 1: And I are family, so don't worry about me. It's
- 51:09Speaker 1: worse for you because you're in hostile territory. And I'm
- 51:13Speaker 1: honestly kind of concerned at the fact that she is
- 51:16Speaker 1: so unconcerned. It feels like, I think this might go
- 51:20Speaker 1: way worse for you than you realize. And it's probably
- 51:22Speaker 1: a good thing that you don't realize, or else you
- 51:24Speaker 1: might not be willing to help them at this point.
- 51:28Speaker 1: But you know, like I'm worried about her. Okay, here's
- 51:33Speaker 1: a full view of the map. Cacao to jam, to cheese,
- 51:38Speaker 1: to biscuits, to nuts, to candy, to whole cake. Trying
- 51:43Speaker 1: to think what I would add in here. I think
- 51:45Speaker 1: it's surprising that we've got some things that are like
- 51:50Speaker 1: individual ingredients, and then we've got some things that there's
- 51:53Speaker 1: it's like a finished product. Like nuts, you know, that's
- 51:57Speaker 1: something it grows as it grows. But biscuits something that
- 52:00Speaker 1: like you put together. And cheese. There's different types of cheese, granted,
- 52:05Speaker 1: but it is like one particular type of product. Cheese
- 52:09Speaker 1: and jam and candy those all kind of fall under
- 52:13Speaker 1: the same you know. I think biscuits is the real
- 52:16Speaker 1: outlier here, I guess, but I am looking forward to
- 52:22Speaker 1: seeing more of these other islands we pass eventually one
- 52:26Speaker 1: that's got it's pouring like fruit juice into the ocean water,
- 52:30Speaker 1: so the water turns purple. And there's this thing that's
- 52:36Speaker 1: happening throughout these episodes with Pedro. He is he runs
- 52:46Speaker 1: into somebody who knows him, and then when they're like
- 52:51Speaker 1: on the sea again, he's saying, oh, yeah, well there's
- 52:54Speaker 1: an island here that's like this, and he points out
- 52:57Speaker 1: a bunch of stuff that indicates he has been here
- 53:00Speaker 1: before and he knows his way around. But for some reason,
- 53:05Speaker 1: he doesn't really want to be honest with him about that,
- 53:09Speaker 1: and I'm not really sure why not. It's like there's
- 53:13Speaker 1: definitely something shady going on, but I can't imagine what
- 53:16Speaker 1: it is. Like he was living with the Minx and
- 53:20Speaker 1: seemed like he had been intending to just stay there.
- 53:23Speaker 1: So I don't know if if he's like hiding from
- 53:26Speaker 1: the law, you know, if there's something that he was
- 53:28Speaker 1: involved with that was illegal, that he escaped and now
- 53:31Speaker 1: he's like potentially risking something by coming back. Excuse me.
- 53:36Speaker 1: I don't know why I had pickuping so bad, but
- 53:41Speaker 1: it's definitely something that They're drawing our attention to repeatedly,
- 53:46Speaker 1: and I truly do not know what to make of it.
- 53:49Speaker 1: I really don't. I just keep looking at it, like,
- 53:51Speaker 1: but is what is going on there? And I'm running
- 53:57Speaker 1: out of time, so I'm gonna just kind of jump
- 53:59Speaker 1: ahead to the part where, Oh, I forgot that there's
- 54:04Speaker 1: a moment that we spend with Sanjy. I forgot we
- 54:07Speaker 1: actually get to see him. Who is he with? He's
- 54:12Speaker 1: in like a real foggy area and smoking a cigarette
- 54:17Speaker 1: as he is wont to do. I will never get
- 54:19Speaker 1: over the fact that they had to change this into
- 54:20Speaker 1: a lollipop. I find that sofa, and I guess they
- 54:23Speaker 1: would have had to edit out the smoke and stuff.
- 54:26Speaker 1: What a pain. Oh right, this is fucking Veto talking about?
- 54:34Speaker 1: Is it Gemma sixty six? Gemma? I don't remember. But
- 54:37Speaker 1: they're walking up to their castle. They have the big
- 54:42Speaker 1: flag flying and everything, and Veto is just really excited
- 54:47Speaker 1: to meet his heroes from these stories and doesn't understand
- 54:51Speaker 1: why Sanji isn't more pumped or at least more appreciative
- 54:55Speaker 1: of the compliment, I guess. And we just see Sanji
- 55:00Speaker 1: walking out into the fog and then we go briefly
- 55:06Speaker 1: over to brock Collie Island, which I am so sorry,
- 55:11Speaker 1: but that is really funny. It's very funny, kids. I
- 55:15Speaker 1: really like it, especially considering he has no problem naming
- 55:18Speaker 1: other islands directly after food. But it like being brock Alie, Like,
- 55:29Speaker 1: come on, brock brock Collie, I mean, honestly. And this
- 55:34Speaker 1: is when we see Oh, I'm sorry, Sarah, I'm in
- 55:37Speaker 1: the chest, says Germa double six. Okay, thank you. I
- 55:42Speaker 1: was certainly not remembering that Germa double six is at
- 55:50Speaker 1: Broccoli Island. Not entirely sure what war is being fought here,
- 55:57Speaker 1: because earlier we were seeing all of these that supply supplies.
- 56:03Speaker 1: Oh my god, you know, they provide ingredients for the
- 56:07Speaker 1: things that big Mom wants. I would imagine broccoli is
- 56:11Speaker 1: certainly not at the top of her list. This is
- 56:14Speaker 1: a woman who isn't interested in vegetables, for sure. So
- 56:19Speaker 1: why is Jeremy sixty six here of all places? And
- 56:26Speaker 1: they come in and they get a briefing from this
- 56:30Speaker 1: man who's in charge, and I'm trying to find let's see,
- 56:35Speaker 1: he's just labeled Commander A nietzschi and Ichigi. He says,
- 56:43Speaker 1: I take it you have the money ready, and the
- 56:47Speaker 1: commander is like, yeah, we do, and then they both
- 56:49Speaker 1: are like okay, well stand back and watch, and they
- 56:54Speaker 1: wind up just like annihilating the people on this island.
- 57:00Speaker 1: Later on, we see this moment where a man who
- 57:03Speaker 1: has a real bone to pick with them because they
- 57:05Speaker 1: apparently killed his wife and child or something. He confronts
- 57:09Speaker 1: them and has this whole plan to take revenge, and
- 57:15Speaker 1: he winds up being It's a weird thing because one
- 57:21Speaker 1: of them says Wall, and their henchmen just jumps in
- 57:27Speaker 1: front of him. I had thought when they said Wall
- 57:30Speaker 1: that this was going to be like a devil fruit ability,
- 57:33Speaker 1: but it appears that it's just actually pulling somebody in
- 57:38Speaker 1: front of him as a human shield, which I don't
- 57:41Speaker 1: really know how that works. But damn the guy who
- 57:44Speaker 1: gets shot, it doesn't seem like he's happy about it.
- 57:49Speaker 1: And not to say that anybody would be, but if
- 57:51Speaker 1: these people were doing a sort of secret service kind
- 57:54Speaker 1: of I'm throwing myself in the way of the bullet
- 57:57Speaker 1: to save your life because that's my job and it's
- 58:00Speaker 1: my biggest priority, I feel like there'd be a different
- 58:03Speaker 1: expression on his face. This guy, to me, is really giving,
- 58:08Speaker 1: like shocked and appalled, and so there's a sense for
- 58:12Speaker 1: me of like this isn't voluntary, but I don't know,
- 58:15Speaker 1: I might just be misreading his expression. And of course
- 58:21Speaker 1: then we get him just brutally shooting this guy who
- 58:25Speaker 1: already lost his family, and it's really sad. Guys. It
- 58:31Speaker 1: was like a, oh, I don't know what's going on here.
- 58:33Speaker 1: You know, I don't have the context for it, but
- 58:37Speaker 1: I just felt like ugh. And as they're leaving, the
- 58:47Speaker 1: commander watches them go and says, they saved our island.
- 58:52Speaker 1: They may call them demons, but they're wrong. To us.
- 58:56Speaker 1: These are angels. And I am not understanding what's happening here.
- 59:06Speaker 1: I don't understand who these They seem like an occupying force.
- 59:11Speaker 1: So how is it that this is When he says
- 59:15Speaker 1: they saved our island, it feels like it's not, but
- 59:21Speaker 1: the emotion behind it does kind of hit like somebody
- 59:25Speaker 1: who is a native and who lives here. So I
- 59:29Speaker 1: don't know. And then the two of them from the
- 59:35Speaker 1: double six er, they're standing on this rooftop and talking
- 59:40Speaker 1: on a transponder snail about how long they how long
- 59:44Speaker 1: the trip is to hold cake island and if they're
- 59:46Speaker 1: going to be able to get there in time for
- 59:48Speaker 1: the wedding, And one of them says that he's looking
- 59:51Speaker 1: forward to seeing Sangi, and the other is just like,
- 59:54Speaker 1: are you fucking high? What are you talking about? So
- 59:59Speaker 1: Sarah says, I took it as two factions fighting over
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: the same island. I agree. It's just confusing because like
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: the commander, he's in uniform, and I was assuming that
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: he was with the the Marines. So German Double six
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: is supposed to butt up against the Marines like they're
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: meant to be enemies, at least in the comic strip.
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: So I was expecting those guys to be these dude's enemy,
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: and instead it seems like these guys are somehow like
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: independents who I suppose paid Germa Double six to show up.
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: And he's crying and talking about how he how much
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: they owe these people for saving him or saving them.
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: But it's also like, well, you apparently paid them to
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: do the job and they just did the job, So
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: I don't know why are so emotional. So it's just
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: I was there was just a lot about different details
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: that felt like they didn't really go together, and I
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: wasn't sure what to make of it. But anyway, I'm
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: running out of time here, so I'm just gonna wrap
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: up with the part where our friends are back on
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: the ocean on the ship, and you know there's that
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: point where there's the purple ocean water. Sorry, if you
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: guys can hear my cat, I don't know why she's
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: so upset all of a sudden, And eventually they get
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: attacked by a sea centipede I think is what they're called.
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: These things are hilarious looking. I don't know what's going
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: on with them, but they have like perfectly round eyes
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: and it just looks like somebody took a like a
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: sea creature and just stuck googly eyes that you get
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: at a craft store on these things. They are very
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: funny and it's a whole like oh yes, yes, yes,
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: Florian says. Also, Peckham's is gone, thank you. I completely
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: forgot about that. He vanishes on them, and I think
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: that it's supposed to be he bounced once they were
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: picked up by Pudding, like once they got into town.
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: That he's been gone since that moment, which he has
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: been very like pro big mom. When they're first pulling
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: up to the island. He's talking to Nami about how
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: this is Big Mom's vision for everybody to coexist peacefully,
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: and you know, it certainly sounds nice and it seems
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: like he believes her, but that is clearly not actually
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: what's going on here. So I'm wondering what she's done
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: to gain his trust in this regard. And yeah, so anyway,
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: the whole thing, like with this this sea centipede, it's
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: very funny because the whole crew is like kind of
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: gearing up to fight it, and then it seems like
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: Loofy just manages to take it out by himself and
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: they're all standing there like, oh, really, we don't have
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: to do anything. I was kind of looking forward to something,
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: and it looks like there's a second one or the
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: first one just wound up being not as hurt as
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: it seemed to be. But either way, they're facing a
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: little bit more of an obstacle here than they at
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: first thought. You know, it's still I'm not worried about them, obviously,
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: but uh, yeah, these creatures are very funny looking. I
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: just have to mention that because my god, I don't know,
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: it feels almost like whoever designed them the day they
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: were asked to do it, they were just sort of like, ah,
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: I don't know when he collapses, it's too big. Our
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: attacks don't do a thing, not with that thick shell.
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: All right, everyone aim at the belly at once, and
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: fucking Carrot gets a crazy expression on her face when
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: she is ready to attack this thing. She looks bad
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: nanas for a second, y'all, Oh my god, let's see.
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: Lufy jumps up and does jet stamp, which I don't
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: remember seeing this before. We probably have, but I'm just
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: it's not ringing a bell. And he gets it right
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: in the head and the whole thing just like cracks
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: and falls apart. It's pretty, uh, kind of an awful
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: way to die, to be honest, and let's see, okay,
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: And then the episode ends with Big Mama's like rampage
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: because she's craving crogambush. So all right, I'm gonna wrap
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: this up. Thank you guys again so much for hanging
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: out with me. I'm having a lot of fun. Thank
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: you Florian for commissioning this one. And until next time
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: to loom motherfuckers. That was an unspoiled network. Pat
