- 0:31Speaker 1: Hello everybody, and welcome to the Business Roundtable podcast. I'm
- 0:35Speaker 1: your host, David Carr, founder of Stewart Your Business. Grateful
- 0:39Speaker 1: to have you here once again. Or we have a
- 0:41Speaker 1: brand new guest on the podcast. I'm super excited to
- 0:43Speaker 1: have Claire Yak on here. Claire, welcome to the podcast.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Thank you, thank you.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Yeah. Absolutely uh.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Claire and I have met you might have heard in
- 0:53Speaker 1: past episodes through one of our networking group, Success Champions Network,
- 0:56Speaker 1: which has brought some amazing people into my world. And
- 0:59Speaker 1: I've been really grateful to have Claire on here. She
- 1:01Speaker 1: has got such a great background and we share a
- 1:05Speaker 1: lot of passion in leadership and team development. And so Claire,
- 1:10Speaker 1: before we get into what I call the meat of
- 1:12Speaker 1: the meat of the podcast, tell me a little bit
- 1:16Speaker 1: about and tell our audience, because I've gotten to meet
- 1:17Speaker 1: you and talk with you.
- 1:18Speaker 3: But what got you to becoming you know yourself.
- 1:21Speaker 1: You're a neuro leadership expert and we'll share, but what
- 1:25Speaker 1: got you to this point where you're like, no, I
- 1:27Speaker 1: want to focus on this part of the brain and
- 1:30Speaker 1: how we're showing up and take us a little bit
- 1:32Speaker 1: about your journey as now you're the owner and founder
- 1:35Speaker 1: of your business and leading yourself well and leading those
- 1:39Speaker 1: that you're working.
- 1:42Speaker 4: Yeah, I'll try to keep this short. So I basically
- 1:48Speaker 4: I'm an engineer and a musician, and I've had these
- 1:53Speaker 4: two careers pretty much for I mean, I'm no longer
- 1:57Speaker 4: practicing engineering, but I worked as an engineer first managed
- 2:00Speaker 4: a lot of teams. I've gone through every single possible
- 2:03Speaker 4: scenario when it comes to leadership and teams, and I've
- 2:05Speaker 4: really learned a lot because I was out.
- 2:08Speaker 2: There doing it right.
- 2:09Speaker 4: And that This is when I decided to start my
- 2:11Speaker 4: own company, because I wanted to marry the whole leadership
- 2:14Speaker 4: corporate everything that we do every day with music, the
- 2:19Speaker 4: power of music, the arts, and this is combined with
- 2:22Speaker 4: the left brain and the right brain when we talk
- 2:24Speaker 4: about creativity and analytic. So I kin't always have those
- 2:28Speaker 4: both sides developed. It just happened to be that way,
- 2:32Speaker 4: and I wanted to bring them both into the corporate
- 2:35Speaker 4: world and see how we could learn from that, how
- 2:38Speaker 4: we can combine that and really play at a whole
- 2:41Speaker 4: different level the level that we should be playing at.
- 2:44Speaker 4: Really think we're playing big, but we're playing small. We're
- 2:48Speaker 4: not even tapping into you know, ten percent of our potential.
- 2:53Speaker 2: So this became kind of my passion.
- 2:55Speaker 4: And when I started my company, my sold purpose team
- 2:58Speaker 4: building was really to bring this, not only from my
- 3:01Speaker 4: employer because I was in engineering, is to bring it
- 3:03Speaker 4: to the world and the people who need it, the
- 3:05Speaker 4: people that were at that point in their career and
- 3:08Speaker 4: they're thinking, how how do I find my own voice?
- 3:12Speaker 2: How do I how do I be and.
- 3:15Speaker 4: Become that version of me that is thriving, that is happy,
- 3:20Speaker 4: that is healthy, that is successful, that is everything I
- 3:23Speaker 4: want to have in my life.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Obviously, this was linked to neuroscience. The scientists and.
- 3:29Speaker 4: Me, you know you can, you can pull that out,
- 3:34Speaker 4: and and I stumbled on upon neuroscience because it just
- 3:38Speaker 4: fascinated me. The whole like science behind leadership and human behavior.
- 3:43Speaker 5: Uh, it makes way too much sense now and kind
- 3:48Speaker 5: of helped me connect the dot in my life and
- 3:50Speaker 5: my career and we transform my life and my career
- 3:55Speaker 5: and my business.
- 3:56Speaker 4: So I'm not preaching to preach. I'm literally preaching what
- 4:01Speaker 4: I lived experience and I was still experiencing is an
- 4:07Speaker 4: everyday thing. And leadership, you know, this is what we're
- 4:11Speaker 4: talking about here. It takes the leadership the leader himself
- 4:16Speaker 4: or herself to be anchored and be that version that
- 4:20Speaker 4: they want to be before they even ready to lead.
- 4:23Speaker 2: So there's a lot of work.
- 4:24Speaker 4: And I know, David, I know you you.
- 4:28Speaker 3: Agree on this absolutely.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, I mean you and I again come the
- 4:33Speaker 1: reason why I have in the podcast player number one
- 4:35Speaker 1: because I think you and I share a lot of passions.
- 4:37Speaker 3: I don't know if I've even told you this.
- 4:38Speaker 1: I have a music background too, But I think the
- 4:40Speaker 1: brain works differently, like you said, right in left brain right,
- 4:43Speaker 1: and you're engineering them in biological sciences things like that
- 4:47Speaker 1: and right, and so we saw I think both of
- 4:50Speaker 1: us saw the challenge where if you're only thinking one way,
- 4:53Speaker 1: it's like trying to access the whole list of our
- 4:56Speaker 1: brain right. And that's why I like wanted on here
- 4:58Speaker 1: because I feel like there's a different angle that people
- 5:00Speaker 1: may not have heard or.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Thought about before and.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Of how neuros about about neuroscience and maybe they've heard
- 5:07Speaker 1: that word, but maybe it's kind of new to them.
- 5:10Speaker 1: And when you dig into it, like you're saying and Claire,
- 5:13Speaker 1: it's like how you can show up with better mental fitness,
- 5:17Speaker 1: better team alignment. And that's that's why you created MSP
- 5:20Speaker 1: for example, and I love that because I love collaborating
- 5:23Speaker 1: with folks like you, Claire, and I want folks to
- 5:25Speaker 1: hear listening today with Claire about how she's been able
- 5:29Speaker 1: to do successfully working with you.
- 5:33Speaker 3: And really developing transformation.
- 5:36Speaker 1: And I think that to me, that word is really
- 5:38Speaker 1: meaningful because it's not just because I'm not just that's
- 5:42Speaker 1: exacting being transformed, right, And so you've been transformed, you're saying, Claire,
- 5:46Speaker 1: through your own journey, and I'm continuing to be transformed
- 5:49Speaker 1: as well.
- 5:50Speaker 3: And so this, you know, coupled with this neuroscigns of.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Resilience and how you've been able to strategically sign and
- 5:56Speaker 1: align teams player, I think it's fantastic and I'm super
- 5:59Speaker 1: excited for our audience to hear more about that today. So,
- 6:03Speaker 1: so walk us through a little bit, Claire about your
- 6:07Speaker 1: focus with ms and building and like you know, you
- 6:12Speaker 1: talked about your personal journey if you will, but like
- 6:16Speaker 1: you have done all these things. You've been a trained engineer,
- 6:19Speaker 1: now you're certified neuroscience leadership coach. You're doing this, but
- 6:22Speaker 1: talk about where you've seen this, you know, from project
- 6:26Speaker 1: teams to boardrooms, how you helped remove some blind spots.
- 6:29Speaker 1: We'll break it down on the podcast or build those
- 6:31Speaker 1: those teams and do it without burning out, like or
- 6:34Speaker 1: just like pushing so hard, right they're grinding how they've done.
- 6:38Speaker 3: It, maybe in a more sustainable way.
- 6:41Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, you know, there's so many ways to
- 6:46Speaker 4: achieve that result. One of which that I'm always you
- 6:50Speaker 4: know working with clients is the mindfulness.
- 6:55Speaker 2: It's the core.
- 6:56Speaker 4: If you're not anchored, if you're not grounded, if you're
- 6:59Speaker 4: not self aware, not self conscious now right, self aware mindset,
- 7:04Speaker 4: your thoughts, your words, your behavior, your emotions. If the
- 7:10Speaker 4: whole machine is just chaotic and working in a fight
- 7:14Speaker 4: or flight, how do you want to inspire, lead, motivate, perform.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Just be happy? Period?
- 7:23Speaker 4: I mean you're just literally surviving every single second of
- 7:26Speaker 4: the day. So we really start with the core, which
- 7:30Speaker 4: is the leader and the team, and talk about our
- 7:33Speaker 4: behaviors as human beings.
- 7:34Speaker 2: We're not perfect.
- 7:35Speaker 4: We all have some all sabotage, we're all, you know,
- 7:39Speaker 4: have these fear thoughts and fear based ideas.
- 7:43Speaker 2: And that's really where.
- 7:45Speaker 4: I bring in the neuroscience and I explain the science
- 7:48Speaker 4: behind this is like, what's really happening in your brain.
- 7:51Speaker 4: And I teach people to be in their prefront or cortex,
- 7:55Speaker 4: which is really where you're making decisions, where this is
- 7:57Speaker 4: the CEO of your life. And you know this the
- 8:00Speaker 4: CEO of the brain in a way, which is the
- 8:01Speaker 4: CEO of your life. Because if you're if your prefrontal
- 8:05Speaker 4: cortex is lighting up and managing and really being present, then.
- 8:09Speaker 2: Everything is just flowing in your body. So we talked about.
- 8:13Speaker 4: While being health, being completely present, uh, emotionally intelligent, positive intelligence,
- 8:23Speaker 4: all these things. I mean, this really goes when you're
- 8:26Speaker 4: not being managed by your emotions.
- 8:28Speaker 2: So example, when you know the.
- 8:31Speaker 6: Fear based basically center of the brain, which is the amygdala,
- 8:36Speaker 6: if you're reacting as opposed to you know, being self
- 8:40Speaker 6: aware and like okay this is a trigger, you know,
- 8:42Speaker 6: and being able to manage that, then you're you're literally
- 8:45Speaker 6: just go go straight to the Amygdalah.
- 8:47Speaker 4: Now you're managing with your emotion. You're actually not managing anything.
- 8:50Speaker 4: The CEO is bypassed. It's like it's them right now.
- 8:53Speaker 4: You probably will blow up, maybe you'll you'll shut down,
- 8:56Speaker 4: maybe you'll just leave.
- 8:58Speaker 2: It's just chaotic. So more often than than than not.
- 9:03Speaker 4: We see unfortunately, a lot of leaders, a lot of
- 9:07Speaker 4: teams are operating in fight or flight.
- 9:11Speaker 2: So just being aware of this, applying.
- 9:14Speaker 4: It day to day, giving examples doing that workshop is
- 9:18Speaker 4: really understanding what each team member savageurs, how they're savoteg
- 9:22Speaker 4: sabotaging themselves, how that affects other how they're communicating. Uh,
- 9:28Speaker 4: you know, what really motivates them, what really gets them
- 9:31Speaker 4: into their emotion, into their amygdala and vice versa, what
- 9:35Speaker 4: brain wave they're in. Are they really just bombarded with
- 9:38Speaker 4: negative thoughts most of the time. They're because they're anxious,
- 9:41Speaker 4: they're you know, they're there's stress, they're judging themselves, others,
- 9:46Speaker 4: are they or they're really just looking at the positive
- 9:50Speaker 4: side of things. Even if it's a challenge, they're more
- 9:53Speaker 4: curious about how they can resolve it. So it's all
- 9:55Speaker 4: about you know, they call it mindset, but it's way
- 9:58Speaker 4: beyond that. It's really just understanding how the machine works
- 10:02Speaker 4: and being able you have your brain work for you and.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Not against you.
- 10:08Speaker 3: Mm hm.
- 10:10Speaker 4: I teach that it's like, how do you get your brain,
- 10:12Speaker 4: which is brilliant, this amazing magical thing to work for
- 10:16Speaker 4: you so you can be wow, you can perform at.
- 10:19Speaker 2: An elite level.
- 10:22Speaker 4: As opposed to just be completely oblivious of what's happening
- 10:26Speaker 4: and just.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Well you're I want to get it, Yeah, because you're
- 10:29Speaker 1: bringing up so before we can rewire to get it
- 10:32Speaker 1: to the maximum performs or improve the important performance. Like
- 10:35Speaker 1: you're saying, is what you give the number of examples
- 10:38Speaker 1: of blind spots where we're just unaware, unconscious, perhaps asleep,
- 10:46Speaker 1: if you will, right to this in our life and
- 10:50Speaker 1: you speak a little bit more, because I think this
- 10:52Speaker 1: is important for both folks to realize, because I've done
- 10:54Speaker 1: some more research this, but I want to hear more
- 10:57Speaker 1: from you there as to our brain doesn't want to
- 11:01Speaker 1: you know, right, doesn't want to do more energy than
- 11:04Speaker 1: it has to. So kind of like even if these
- 11:07Speaker 1: are bad situations, not good things, we've kind of normalized
- 11:10Speaker 1: right in our brain, like so we kind of don't
- 11:12Speaker 1: even see it anymore.
- 11:13Speaker 4: Is that?
- 11:14Speaker 3: Is that how you're seeing it?
- 11:16Speaker 4: Yeah, it's exactly that. So you know it's whether brain
- 11:20Speaker 4: talk or not. Okay, you've all noticed that when you know,
- 11:24Speaker 4: we have each one of us have a certain behavior.
- 11:26Speaker 4: We've been doing it for I don't know how many years,
- 11:29Speaker 4: or we've taken on certain patterns excefter, we all have
- 11:32Speaker 4: like a pattern of some sort, and typically these patterns
- 11:35Speaker 4: we take them on when we're really young because as
- 11:39Speaker 4: a child, at two three years old, we just want
- 11:40Speaker 4: to survive. You know that the brain this job is
- 11:44Speaker 4: to keep you alive.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Yes, absolutely right, it's gonna it's.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Gonna focus on your strengths, like what are you naturally
- 11:51Speaker 2: strong with?
- 11:52Speaker 4: So it's going to use these tools to help you
- 11:55Speaker 4: survive and navigate this world that you have no idea
- 11:58Speaker 4: what's going on. These people talking to you, don't understand
- 12:00Speaker 4: the language. You're trying to survive literally, right. But the
- 12:03Speaker 4: thing is so, so this is where we our pattern
- 12:06Speaker 4: starts forming.
- 12:07Speaker 2: So when I say pattern, I go like this with
- 12:09Speaker 2: my hands.
- 12:10Speaker 4: Is because our neurons are you will fire and wire
- 12:14Speaker 4: the more we do a certain thing. So then so
- 12:17Speaker 4: imagine we're firing and wiring certain behaviors for survival since
- 12:21Speaker 4: we're two three years old, subconsciously, unconsciously, and this is
- 12:26Speaker 4: the stuff that we drag on into our adulthood and
- 12:29Speaker 4: now automatically it's like yeah, but I'm like that, no, yeah,
- 12:35Speaker 4: because we've been like.
- 12:35Speaker 2: That maybe for a long time, and it doesn't mean
- 12:38Speaker 2: you cannot.
- 12:39Speaker 4: Unwire, yes, and unfire these things and create new neurons
- 12:44Speaker 4: that will fire and wire together into a new pattern,
- 12:47Speaker 4: which is called this is like playing at your full potential.
- 12:51Speaker 2: You know why.
- 12:52Speaker 4: This is how we rewire the brain you break you
- 12:55Speaker 4: first of all, just being aware of.
- 12:57Speaker 2: What's firing and wiring and why. Maybe you don't.
- 13:00Speaker 4: Understand why, because it's sometimes in the child, and sometimes
- 13:02Speaker 4: you know, you don't know, you don't remember, and sometimes
- 13:05Speaker 4: you don't want to go there, you know, and you're
- 13:07Speaker 4: gonna be respectful of that. So it doesn't matter. Just
- 13:09Speaker 4: as long as you're observing, you already know. It's like, okay,
- 13:12Speaker 4: I'm doing it. Okay, I'm wiring and firing and wiring.
- 13:15Speaker 4: That's great. But if you don't want that behavior, then
- 13:18Speaker 4: you can consciously, this is the power of the human
- 13:21Speaker 4: ring can consciously say Okay, I'm gonna I'm not gonna
- 13:24Speaker 4: do that.
- 13:24Speaker 2: I'm not gonna be triggered.
- 13:26Speaker 4: I'm just gonna breathe, just like instead of reacting, I
- 13:30Speaker 4: really want to react and bite somebody's head off right now,
- 13:32Speaker 4: let's say yes, it's like no, I'm not going straight
- 13:35Speaker 4: to Miam mcdilla I'm gonna be reasonable, I'm gonna calm down.
- 13:38Speaker 2: But you need tools, you just don't, you.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Know, right, And if you've created Claire, if you've and
- 13:45Speaker 1: if you've created like you said, those naps over years
- 13:49Speaker 1: and years, decades possibly and we're going to get to
- 13:53Speaker 1: this because I want to get to the you wiring.
- 13:54Speaker 1: But it's it's like walking a path, you know, you
- 13:57Speaker 1: walk that past so many times. It's so born down, right,
- 14:02Speaker 1: I don't know this right? Or or I've gone on
- 14:05Speaker 1: the path. Or you were driving somewhere and you're not
- 14:07Speaker 1: wanting to go there, but you're just like as a pattern,
- 14:09Speaker 1: you just start driving.
- 14:09Speaker 3: Where am I going? I didn't want to go there?
- 14:12Speaker 2: Completely automatic?
- 14:13Speaker 3: Automatic, right, I mean our.
- 14:15Speaker 4: Whole body, our whole brain is operating, uh automatically basically
- 14:21Speaker 4: want to drink You just took a sip of water, water,
- 14:24Speaker 4: coffee or you know, how.
- 14:26Speaker 2: Did it really go down your throat?
- 14:27Speaker 4: Which muscle muscles had to contract contract in order to
- 14:30Speaker 4: let the water. Cells are working to break it, break
- 14:34Speaker 4: it down, hydrate your your.
- 14:36Speaker 2: You know what I mean.
- 14:37Speaker 3: Yes, it's amazing.
- 14:39Speaker 2: The conscious of I'm going to tell the cell to right,
- 14:44Speaker 2: you know. But but when.
- 14:45Speaker 4: We are able to you know, activate the prefront with
- 14:49Speaker 4: cortex and our behaviors in our day to day so
- 14:52Speaker 4: we can we can be mindful of our energy where
- 14:54Speaker 4: we're putting our attention and our focus, because that will
- 14:58Speaker 4: create your life, That will create experience if you're positive
- 15:02Speaker 4: and always take a challenge like, ah, what is the
- 15:04Speaker 4: gift here?
- 15:06Speaker 2: How could I do this better? Okay?
- 15:08Speaker 4: You know I learned something instead of beating yourself up
- 15:11Speaker 4: for a year over this thing and being you know,
- 15:14Speaker 4: being you know, filled with regret, anxiety.
- 15:17Speaker 2: Stress, just judging yourself and why you can just you know,
- 15:23Speaker 2: it doesn't matter.
- 15:23Speaker 4: That's like, if you do that, that's really bad and
- 15:26Speaker 4: you're totally drowning yourself and sorrow, et cetera.
- 15:28Speaker 2: But you could choose to say, Okay, well it's happened.
- 15:31Speaker 2: I know better.
- 15:32Speaker 4: Now, how can I take this as a gift for
- 15:35Speaker 4: me to you know, how how do I find the
- 15:38Speaker 4: gift this challenge in order to turn things around and say,
- 15:40Speaker 4: you know, maybe I needed to go through this and
- 15:42Speaker 4: my brain kind of told me, you know, bad, but
- 15:46Speaker 4: because you know what, but not that I did that.
- 15:49Speaker 4: Now I learned something. I'm like, oh my god, I
- 15:51Speaker 4: can do this in then, and you know that taught
- 15:53Speaker 4: me not to do it because that will drain my
- 15:55Speaker 4: energy and my well being and da da da. You know,
- 15:58Speaker 4: we see that a lot with people that unfortunately get
- 16:01Speaker 4: to the point where they get really sick or have
- 16:03Speaker 4: an accident and they're almost lose their life and now
- 16:06Speaker 4: they wake up. So what I'm the only thing I'm
- 16:09Speaker 4: saying is please don't wait for an accident to happen.
- 16:12Speaker 4: Please don't wait for your body to yell at you
- 16:16Speaker 4: with cancer or disease of some sort, so you can
- 16:19Speaker 4: change and rewire your habit so you can really be
- 16:23Speaker 4: and thrive at the level you should be, like every
- 16:25Speaker 4: human being should. So that really it's as simple as that.
- 16:30Speaker 4: You know, let's not wait for the drama. You know,
- 16:32Speaker 4: do we really need to get to go there? We
- 16:33Speaker 4: have that power to do it, you just.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Yes, absolutely, And I mentioned you before we record the podcast.
- 16:41Speaker 1: I had another gentleman on our podcast, if You're a Suruna.
- 16:44Speaker 1: We were talking about that from a medical perspective, why
- 16:46Speaker 1: people delay it instead of like, hey, if you know
- 16:49Speaker 1: this will actually improve your body, help you be better,
- 16:52Speaker 1: have a greater longevity, why not why wait?
- 16:55Speaker 3: Like like it's Uh, you know.
- 16:58Speaker 1: There's sometimes there may be some some that's what the
- 17:01Speaker 1: reasons maybe in some particular reasons, you're going through a
- 17:03Speaker 1: medical crisis something I can't I've got literally I'm bleeding
- 17:08Speaker 1: and I need to deal with that. I get that,
- 17:10Speaker 1: But you know there's but like you're saying, Claire, I
- 17:15Speaker 1: like to use the car analogy, meaning you could you
- 17:18Speaker 1: could go you don't have to change the oil every
- 17:21Speaker 1: three or five thousand miles.
- 17:22Speaker 3: You can go longer.
- 17:23Speaker 1: You can go longer under retires and there, but there's
- 17:26Speaker 1: going to be a breakdown at some point, something's going
- 17:28Speaker 1: to wear. Why do we want to wait tether the
- 17:30Speaker 1: blow out of a complete breakdown versus stepping back being
- 17:35Speaker 1: prevented like you're saying, Claire, and start the rewiring process
- 17:39Speaker 1: like you were saying, right, yeah, don't.
- 17:43Speaker 4: Wait exactly and and and the thing is what's hard
- 17:47Speaker 4: about it, And this is the you know, the catch
- 17:49Speaker 4: twenty two is that your brain always did a certain
- 17:54Speaker 4: thing and wired the same neurons and has the same
- 17:57Speaker 4: neural neural pathways in your brain for years. So now
- 18:02Speaker 4: you're gonna come and say, well, you know what, We're
- 18:05Speaker 4: not gonna do it this way.
- 18:06Speaker 2: We're gonna do it that way. What is your brain
- 18:08Speaker 2: gonna do? It's going to resist. I mean it's very smart.
- 18:13Speaker 4: I mean it's just it's biology. It's science. It's wire
- 18:17Speaker 4: a certain thing. This is how it that's what it knows.
- 18:22Speaker 4: Now you're telling you, no, unlearned all this and we're
- 18:25Speaker 4: gonna learn something else.
- 18:26Speaker 2: So this is why it is difficult and hard to
- 18:30Speaker 2: change a pattern or you know, remember, like we all
- 18:33Speaker 2: go through this.
- 18:34Speaker 4: I still go through it, you know, and I'm a
- 18:36Speaker 4: bit more aware of it now. But January in shape.
- 18:40Speaker 4: We're gonna go to the gym every day. I'm going
- 18:43Speaker 4: to be active, I'm gonna eat better, you know, all
- 18:44Speaker 4: these things. It's great the trigger is January or December
- 18:48Speaker 4: twa first. But the thing is you cannot unwire and
- 18:53Speaker 4: rewire without some tools.
- 18:55Speaker 2: You know, you need to help yourself do that.
- 18:57Speaker 4: You can have the intention, you make the decision, but
- 19:00Speaker 4: then there's a bit of work to do. But it's
- 19:02Speaker 4: doable because the brain is neuro plastic and it will
- 19:05Speaker 4: go you can teach it.
- 19:07Speaker 3: Yes, I love I love.
- 19:08Speaker 4: That it's not like you're stuck with certain habits. And
- 19:11Speaker 4: I love what people say, Oh we're all like this
- 19:14Speaker 4: in the family. It's always been that way. It's genetics,
- 19:18Speaker 4: yes and no, and it has been proven through research
- 19:22Speaker 4: it you can you can literally turn off certain genes.
- 19:25Speaker 4: And I'm a big fan of doctor Jo Despanza. I
- 19:27Speaker 4: really encourage a lot of people to to to watch
- 19:30Speaker 4: his videos or read his books. I read all the books.
- 19:34Speaker 4: And you can literally by your behavior and by changing
- 19:38Speaker 4: your energy and your focus where you put your attention
- 19:41Speaker 4: and be mindful of your thoughts, you can switch off
- 19:46Speaker 4: certain genes. You don't have to get go down to burnout.
- 19:50Speaker 4: You don't oh yeah, you know cancer because you have
- 19:53Speaker 4: cancer cells in your family. These genes probably will not
- 19:56Speaker 4: be activated if you completely change your your diet, if
- 19:59Speaker 4: you if you change your behavior, if you know, like
- 20:02Speaker 4: there's a lot of smoking in your family, like you
- 20:03Speaker 4: stop smoking.
- 20:04Speaker 1: I mean.
- 20:06Speaker 2: It's easy to say and explain, but harder to do.
- 20:10Speaker 2: But it's doable. I mean, you know.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Yeah, And this is where why I want to have
- 20:14Speaker 1: you on the on the podcast, Claire, because uh and
- 20:18Speaker 1: you are both coaches and guiding folks and helping trying
- 20:21Speaker 1: to help them. What I found is like people might
- 20:24Speaker 1: get motivated, like you said early on, like Hey, I'll
- 20:26Speaker 1: go to the gym, I'll read a book, I'll watch
- 20:29Speaker 1: a video, I'll do a meditation. And we know you
- 20:32Speaker 1: and I know that that's not enough just a one
- 20:34Speaker 1: time deal. It's you're creating a habit and a lifestyle
- 20:38Speaker 1: and a way of doing this, and you've got a
- 20:39Speaker 1: certain tool set and resources you bring that's unique, which
- 20:43Speaker 1: I I appreciate. And I want to have different voices
- 20:45Speaker 1: here on the podcast so that people can hear and say, oh, man,
- 20:48Speaker 1: Claire's reaching me. She understands where I'm coming and is
- 20:53Speaker 1: my person? Is that person that I feel like I
- 20:55Speaker 1: can align with. We all have different people and is
- 20:57Speaker 1: what whatever can help get you to along the journey
- 20:59Speaker 1: for fantastic right?
- 21:01Speaker 3: Like you said, so many tools, so.
- 21:03Speaker 4: Many pols, and you know, sometimes speak to some people
- 21:07Speaker 4: some tools, won't. More of us out there talking about
- 21:11Speaker 4: this and bringing forward ways to help and share our
- 21:15Speaker 4: story or share our experience and knowing that we succeed
- 21:20Speaker 4: if I.
- 21:20Speaker 2: Can do it, I mean, geez, you can do it,
- 21:23Speaker 2: trust me.
- 21:23Speaker 4: But it depends every person will will will you know,
- 21:28Speaker 4: will be attracted towards a certain tool.
- 21:31Speaker 2: It's not not everybody's got the perfect solution for everyone, right.
- 21:35Speaker 4: But you know, I believe that, you know, the simpler,
- 21:40Speaker 4: more attainable, easier to apply is you know, easy, easiest
- 21:45Speaker 4: to apply on a daily basis.
- 21:46Speaker 2: When we bring the focus back.
- 21:48Speaker 4: To leadership, you know, leaders they even have time. I
- 21:51Speaker 4: mean all the objections, I've heard all of them.
- 21:54Speaker 3: M hmm.
- 21:55Speaker 4: But you know the certain tools you can do. I'm
- 21:57Speaker 4: literally being mindful now. I'm mindfulness and I'm not closing
- 22:01Speaker 4: my eyes and meditating for the past twenty two what
- 22:04Speaker 4: is it twenty two minutes now we're on this podcast.
- 22:06Speaker 4: I'm not doing that. I'm not I'm fully present, but
- 22:09Speaker 4: I'm not in fight or flight. I'm breathing every now
- 22:12Speaker 4: and again. I'm focusing on your background, your your eyeglasses.
- 22:16Speaker 4: I'm being mindful. I'm here, I'm present, I'm already charging up.
- 22:21Speaker 4: I'm already in, you know, basically lighting up my prefrontal cortex.
- 22:28Speaker 4: So I'm able to be mindful and build that energy
- 22:32Speaker 4: and charge recharge while I'm doing something as easy as
- 22:37Speaker 4: a podcast, just being online talking to you.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Now, I don't have to stop everything.
- 22:42Speaker 4: Yeah and take thirty minutes like no, who has time?
- 22:46Speaker 4: I know this is our life now, But the more
- 22:49Speaker 4: you do that, the more you will take time. You
- 22:52Speaker 4: will make time because you see the benefits. You see
- 22:56Speaker 4: that it's changing your life. You see it's changing your energy.
- 22:59Speaker 4: You see that people around you are asking questions, going
- 23:02Speaker 4: what are you doing? What bill are you taking or
- 23:05Speaker 4: what's happening?
- 23:05Speaker 3: You know, yeah, absolutely.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Give me the secret.
- 23:10Speaker 4: You know your energy, your or your your the way
- 23:14Speaker 4: you show up. Uh, it just basically lights up the room.
- 23:19Speaker 4: And it's it's not it's not a surprise. And certain leaders,
- 23:23Speaker 4: you know, they walk in the room they have this
- 23:25Speaker 4: thing and you're like, damn you know, I mean, you
- 23:28Speaker 4: know these people like gone through things and worked on
- 23:32Speaker 4: themselves and applied and worked hard to become be again,
- 23:37Speaker 4: be who they are right now, who they become.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Became y being authentically who they are. And I let
- 23:43Speaker 1: you get to a little bit of that on the
- 23:45Speaker 1: podcast here, Claire, because.
- 23:46Speaker 3: You know, we're breaking down the euro.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Based science that you're talking about leadership between you rewire
- 23:52Speaker 1: our brains. But then that leads into your help as
- 23:58Speaker 1: I was we would talk previously, but to help designs
- 24:00Speaker 1: and as you're making frameworks have clarity and all of
- 24:03Speaker 1: this and speak a little bit more.
- 24:05Speaker 3: About how you do what you do at MS in guiding.
- 24:09Speaker 1: So when people come to you and now, okay, like
- 24:11Speaker 1: you said, maybe we're starting to open the mindset in
- 24:14Speaker 1: the past day is to walk walk through the process
- 24:17Speaker 1: of what it looks like along this journey and they're
- 24:20Speaker 1: working with.
- 24:20Speaker 4: It's a great question and so many ways to answer
- 24:24Speaker 4: it because I mean, we have eighty five plus.
- 24:28Speaker 3: School all these things.
- 24:30Speaker 4: Yeah, So what I always say is that I'm a
- 24:33Speaker 4: true believer that you always build a box around what
- 24:36Speaker 4: the client needs. There's no specific formula, there's a way,
- 24:40Speaker 4: there's knowledge, of course, there's experience, et cetera. But for instance,
- 24:44Speaker 4: I'll give you one example, how a team come to
- 24:47Speaker 4: me about a month ago, and we just finished the
- 24:49Speaker 4: training a couple of weeks ago, and it's a new
- 24:52Speaker 4: team and they wanted to really stop working in silos.
- 24:54Speaker 4: They really want to communicate better. They want to understand
- 24:56Speaker 4: each other's behavior and be a bit more mindful and
- 24:59Speaker 4: be more efficient and collaborative moving forward, because I mean
- 25:03Speaker 4: they're going through something big growth, et cetera. And and simply,
- 25:07Speaker 4: but I mean it had to be virtual, so it
- 25:09Speaker 4: was limited a little bit. But we we talked about Basically,
- 25:14Speaker 4: we got them to do a lot of assessments. Those
- 25:17Speaker 4: assessments are like three minutes, so we got to find
- 25:20Speaker 4: out what are the main ways each team.
- 25:23Speaker 2: Member sabotages themselves.
- 25:26Speaker 4: Some of them are controllers, some of them were pleasers,
- 25:29Speaker 4: some of them were hyper rational, some were We all
- 25:32Speaker 4: have different ways.
- 25:32Speaker 2: And we all have savatories, by the way.
- 25:34Speaker 4: So understanding their behavior and how they're reacting it already
- 25:38Speaker 4: took a huge chunk of stress off of their shoulder
- 25:41Speaker 4: because everybody now was talking openly about, hey, we're not
- 25:45Speaker 4: all perfect. This is how I react, and when you
- 25:47Speaker 4: come and tell me this, this is how I'm going
- 25:50Speaker 4: to react, because that's I've been doing this all my life.
- 25:52Speaker 4: So we humanize you know, everything and the situations, and
- 25:57Speaker 4: it's it.
- 25:57Speaker 2: It becomes lighter.
- 25:58Speaker 4: So the idea is to create that psychological safety as
- 26:02Speaker 4: a facilitator and get people to be self aware of
- 26:06Speaker 4: what's happening so they can develop empathy and be a
- 26:09Speaker 4: bit more emmercial intelligence so we can communicate, collaborate, work
- 26:12Speaker 4: together and break down those silos.
- 26:14Speaker 2: Now that's like I really touched.
- 26:15Speaker 4: A little bit on the how I mean, obviously I'll
- 26:18Speaker 4: need ours, but yes, one other.
- 26:20Speaker 2: Thing we did.
- 26:21Speaker 4: We did like we finished with an activity called the
- 26:25Speaker 4: team Totem that we do and where it's all about
- 26:28Speaker 4: self recognizing each other's strength.
- 26:32Speaker 2: So it's really your colleagues.
- 26:34Speaker 4: Selecting your totem, meaning your animal totem and your quality totem.
- 26:38Speaker 4: And what that does is you're literally telling your colleagues
- 26:42Speaker 4: I see you as a leader, I see you as courageous,
- 26:45Speaker 4: or I see you as And it's a plainful way
- 26:47Speaker 4: and people need it really helped them a lot. And
- 26:52Speaker 4: we have post workshop sessions as well coming up. So
- 26:56Speaker 4: because at the end of the day, which is great,
- 26:58Speaker 4: now everybody's like, okay, we know we need to do.
- 27:01Speaker 4: We're good, we're equipped with the tools, but now what
- 27:05Speaker 4: you need to reaccess? How did how did we shift?
- 27:09Speaker 4: How was our you know, a level of awareness go up.
- 27:13Speaker 4: So I talk a lot about positive intelligence with the
- 27:16Speaker 4: ability of the brain to work for you and not
- 27:18Speaker 4: against you, and we want to bring that positive it's
- 27:21Speaker 4: a PQ quotient like it's positive intelligent coachient iq.
- 27:25Speaker 2: EQ, same thing. We want to bring it up to
- 27:28Speaker 2: a certain level.
- 27:28Speaker 4: So because once it's at a higher level, that means
- 27:31Speaker 4: our brain is working for us seventy five percent of
- 27:35Speaker 4: the time or more than less right, So we don't
- 27:38Speaker 4: circle back down, spiral back down. So the idea is
- 27:41Speaker 4: to build that, build the EQ, build the PQ, build all.
- 27:45Speaker 2: The cues besides the IQ.
- 27:46Speaker 4: We can build it and that by doing these post sessions,
- 27:52Speaker 4: we regroup, we're reinforced. We keep building, and we measure
- 27:57Speaker 4: and see how how we as well as see what
- 28:02Speaker 4: are our challenges and we don't know how to deal
- 28:05Speaker 4: with this thing, so then we can all talk about it.
- 28:07Speaker 2: I can give some tools.
- 28:09Speaker 4: It's all about hands on because theory is great, but
- 28:12Speaker 4: if you're not applying it in your day to day
- 28:14Speaker 4: and in a specific situation with the client, then you
- 28:17Speaker 4: know it's useful to a certain extent. And one last
- 28:21Speaker 4: thing quickly, one of the most popular workshops that I
- 28:25Speaker 4: love doing. One is with music. We really help people
- 28:29Speaker 4: find their voice, find their voice as a team called
- 28:32Speaker 4: innovation that rhymes again no time to go in detail.
- 28:36Speaker 2: And the other one is Lego lego serious play.
- 28:38Speaker 4: So at MS speak building, we really try to bring
- 28:41Speaker 4: in very creative ways to learn and grow because the
- 28:47Speaker 4: creative side of the brain, the right side of the brain,
- 28:49Speaker 4: is really where we thrive, and of course we're so
- 28:53Speaker 4: much in our analytical brain or left brain that most
- 28:56Speaker 4: of the time we're not really tapping into that full
- 28:59Speaker 4: potential by ballot and seeing both. So the idea is
- 29:02Speaker 4: really to be able to not only be in our
- 29:04Speaker 4: analytical brain, but balance both by doing certain ways and
- 29:07Speaker 4: bringing certain workshops to open it up, open up the
- 29:11Speaker 4: conversation and find and understand.
- 29:13Speaker 2: There's way so many tools.
- 29:16Speaker 4: Out there to help us navigate this thing called getting
- 29:20Speaker 4: along at work.
- 29:21Speaker 1: Right, absolutely well, I mean, and that's again, Claire, why
- 29:25Speaker 1: I wanted to have you here because you bring a
- 29:27Speaker 1: different perspective, and I think it's so important is if
- 29:30Speaker 1: you're a business owner or even a leader or a
- 29:33Speaker 1: department manager and you're like, man, I don't know where
- 29:36Speaker 1: to go here to get you're listening to the podcast,
- 29:39Speaker 1: you're listening to player. And by the way, again, you
- 29:41Speaker 1: guys can connect with Claire on LinkedIn where we're connected
- 29:44Speaker 1: there as well. We'll put all the links to MSP
- 29:47Speaker 1: and whatnot in our show notes. But you know, I
- 29:49Speaker 1: want folks to be able to hear other voices and saying, oh,
- 29:52Speaker 1: I didn't even know that was a possibility. I didn't
- 29:54Speaker 1: even know that you could do this workshop or create
- 29:56Speaker 1: this space. And I love collaborating with folks player because
- 30:01Speaker 1: I know I don't have all the answers, I don't
- 30:02Speaker 1: have all the tools. I love to be able to
- 30:05Speaker 1: bring in folks like yourself, even if I'm working with
- 30:08Speaker 1: the minor company and saying, hey, Claire has got a
- 30:10Speaker 1: unique perspective in a way that has worked and unlocked.
- 30:14Speaker 1: And I liked how you said this on your LinkedIn.
- 30:17Speaker 1: You're saying, we build in building. We're being very proactive
- 30:21Speaker 1: and building. Maybe that's you're engineering coming in there, but
- 30:24Speaker 1: how we do right, yeah, right, yeah.
- 30:28Speaker 2: Yeah exactly.
- 30:29Speaker 4: And you know what, David, I really appreciate what you
- 30:31Speaker 4: just said because I'm a true believer of that turn.
- 30:34Speaker 4: That's why we just clicked. I knew you that I've
- 30:37Speaker 4: always looked for collaborators. I've always looked for other people
- 30:40Speaker 4: to do what I do, but differently, you cannot do
- 30:43Speaker 4: something exactly like the other person.
- 30:44Speaker 2: I'm possible, right, all different, And I love that because
- 30:48Speaker 2: that's exactly how I work.
- 30:50Speaker 4: If I find that my client needs you know, I
- 30:52Speaker 4: have the base what I do, but I'm like, yeah,
- 30:55Speaker 4: but you need you need an expert in this that's
- 30:57Speaker 4: done this with a specific situation like I would love
- 31:00Speaker 4: to reach out to somebody like you, David or somebody
- 31:03Speaker 4: else like in our partners Yes, because why because that's
- 31:07Speaker 4: that's what my client needs right, the client first, because
- 31:11Speaker 4: we're here to help. And if we're not bringing in
- 31:14Speaker 4: the right method, like we said earlier, you know so
- 31:18Speaker 4: many ways to do things, but maybe that's not the
- 31:20Speaker 4: right way. Maybe this this will will will will appeal
- 31:25Speaker 4: better to a certain person. And this is where the
- 31:28Speaker 4: strength is of a network, especially with coaches, leadership, experts,
- 31:33Speaker 4: and we all need the help that.
- 31:35Speaker 2: We can get right.
- 31:37Speaker 1: Absolutely, absolutely, no, absolutely, Claire, And I hope as you're
- 31:41Speaker 1: listening to this, because sometimes I feel like you might
- 31:45Speaker 1: try to do this within your organ maybe speak.
- 31:47Speaker 3: To this a little bit clear.
- 31:48Speaker 1: Sometimes people say I've learned, I watched a video or
- 31:50Speaker 1: read something, and they try to do it on their
- 31:53Speaker 1: own with limited success in the organization for different reasons.
- 31:57Speaker 1: It's not speak to as your god as an objective
- 32:01Speaker 1: third party. Clayer, a little bit about that relationship with
- 32:04Speaker 1: your clients, because you have a different interest, if you will,
- 32:08Speaker 1: but maybe some others do.
- 32:09Speaker 3: And how you how you work with with clients.
- 32:12Speaker 4: Mm hmmm, yeah, I mean, you know, it's like I said,
- 32:17Speaker 4: we don't always have all the solutions, you know, and
- 32:20Speaker 4: sometimes you know what I find, David, I find sometimes
- 32:23Speaker 4: that maybe what I offer is wow for certain people,
- 32:28Speaker 4: but for others, like I don't understand what you're saying,
- 32:31Speaker 4: you know, I mean, in so many ways, they're just
- 32:33Speaker 4: not ready. They're not ready because it's pretty you know,
- 32:37Speaker 4: you need to be at a certain level where you're
- 32:39Speaker 4: really looking for something, searching and wanting to transform or
- 32:44Speaker 4: wanting to change one being so.
- 32:46Speaker 2: Fed up of being that person that is not serving
- 32:49Speaker 2: you anymore.
- 32:49Speaker 4: Yes, that you know, your brain now is open to
- 32:54Speaker 4: that opportunity because it's.
- 32:55Speaker 2: Looking for it. And we call the rs. It's you know,
- 32:59Speaker 2: that red car.
- 33:00Speaker 4: That you find everywhere when you decide I want a
- 33:03Speaker 4: red car, that's your r S. It's going to filter
- 33:05Speaker 4: the information. The data is out there. So if your brain,
- 33:10Speaker 4: your r S, is not filtering the right data and
- 33:13Speaker 4: this is not what you're looking for, you have to
- 33:15Speaker 4: look for it.
- 33:16Speaker 2: This is why I said, it starts with.
- 33:17Speaker 4: The decision, you know, then it will just be presented
- 33:21Speaker 4: to you, Yes, Chack, But that's the brain doing its thing.
- 33:24Speaker 4: You know.
- 33:27Speaker 1: I know we're getting into the podcast here, Claire, but
- 33:29Speaker 1: you you've hit on so many great points. I hope
- 33:32Speaker 1: people that are listening maybe you know you've been looking
- 33:35Speaker 1: or leaning now you said this is your red car moment.
- 33:37Speaker 3: You're like, oh my goodness, here it is again. You know.
- 33:40Speaker 1: Now you know, here's Claire. I know, Claire, you're based
- 33:42Speaker 1: in Canada, but you're all all over the all over
- 33:45Speaker 1: the flat help so many Yeah, where we have.
- 33:48Speaker 4: Our company in the US and we're also in Canada,
- 33:52Speaker 4: and yeah, I mean virtually.
- 33:54Speaker 2: Obviously, like yes, yes.
- 33:57Speaker 4: But yeah, we have teams across Canada. We have teams
- 33:59Speaker 4: of the US. We serve for both territories.
- 34:02Speaker 1: Yeah, so so don't But you know, I wanted to
- 34:05Speaker 1: say that because I wanted people to know that, hey,
- 34:07Speaker 1: when you go connect with Claire, she's helping.
- 34:09Speaker 3: People all over the world. Really, uh.
- 34:12Speaker 1: In this podcast is another way we can reach hopefully
- 34:14Speaker 1: more of you, Claire. As we're wrapping it up here,
- 34:19Speaker 1: and we've shared a lot of different ideas and thoughts.
- 34:21Speaker 1: So if somebody is leaning into this, they haven't fit
- 34:23Speaker 1: their toe fully, but like, okay, I'm maybe you got
- 34:26Speaker 1: me in This mindfulness thing got me thinking a little
- 34:29Speaker 1: bit more.
- 34:29Speaker 3: What would you say?
- 34:30Speaker 1: What would you encourage our listeners a step that they
- 34:33Speaker 1: could do today or consider.
- 34:37Speaker 3: Based on our conversation. I know there's so much.
- 34:42Speaker 1: Yeah this is I'm not going to hold you this
- 34:44Speaker 1: an ultimate one, but just like something that comes to
- 34:47Speaker 1: mind for you.
- 34:48Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, maybe if I could give one tip,
- 34:51Speaker 4: I challenge the listeners to take maybe for one day
- 34:54Speaker 4: or maybe take thirty minutes, just be mindful of their thoughts.
- 34:57Speaker 4: If that's one thing you can do, right, these thoughts
- 35:00Speaker 4: that just keep coming back, and maybe just write it
- 35:03Speaker 4: down on a piece of paper and just observe these thoughts.
- 35:07Speaker 2: I'm like, okay, my god, I'm always telling myself I'm
- 35:09Speaker 2: so tired. I'm so tired, I'm so tired. I don't know. Example,
- 35:12Speaker 2: then say okay, is this really serving me? Is this
- 35:16Speaker 2: really how I feel?
- 35:17Speaker 4: I'm actually not that tired, or you know, and then
- 35:20Speaker 4: just reverse it, change it to what you want to
- 35:22Speaker 4: happen in your life.
- 35:24Speaker 2: So change it into the positive thing.
- 35:27Speaker 4: So bring bring up your brainwave to the positive level
- 35:30Speaker 4: and change it. And then every time you have that thought,
- 35:34Speaker 4: try to be mindful and just switch it around and
- 35:37Speaker 4: repeat it. You literally with one thought can change a
- 35:41Speaker 4: lot in your day to day.
- 35:42Speaker 2: So hopefully that serves you.
- 35:44Speaker 4: And that's a really really great hands on sold that
- 35:46Speaker 4: I do like I should stop saying, you know, I procrastinate,
- 35:51Speaker 4: you know, so it's ridiculous. So again, focus on your
- 35:57Speaker 4: thoughts and be mindful of your thoughts because you're thoughts
- 36:00Speaker 4: is basically what you're feeding your brain, and what your
- 36:04Speaker 4: brain is being fed is what's gonna basically filter the
- 36:08Speaker 4: data that is around you and make your life exactly
- 36:11Speaker 4: what you're telling you to do.
- 36:12Speaker 2: So you want that red car, it's going to bring
- 36:14Speaker 2: you the red card.
- 36:14Speaker 4: So make sure that what you're asking for is really
- 36:17Speaker 4: what's serving you and not actually doing harm.
- 36:20Speaker 2: So watch those thoughts for sure.
- 36:23Speaker 1: Thank you so much Claire the podcast.
