Transcript
- 0:10Hello and welcome. You're listening to Galaxy
- 0:12Crashers, The Busted, and McFly podcast.
- 0:15The only podcast where the words of Busted and McFly come
- 0:19together. Hosted by us 2 mums who peeked
- 0:22somewhere between MSN and Myspace.
- 0:25I'm Sham. And I'm Day and today we've got
- 0:29our usual This or That. This week it's Naughty's Lost
- 0:32Movies and for Song of the Week is the ultimate Sunshine bot
- 0:36Surfer babe. I'm McFly.
- 0:38Oh yeah, this one is all sunshine, surf vibes, and Pure
- 0:43Early's McFly chaos. It's playful summary and
- 0:46honestly feels like the soundtrack to every naughties
- 0:49school movie. Ripping me beach montage, split
- 0:54phones, low rise jeans and pretending that you know, living
- 0:59in Cornwall or Devon is like living in California because
- 1:01we're that cool. Exactly.
- 1:05So before we get started, I suppose we should do our usual
- 1:09How you been? How's it going?
- 1:10How's your week been? I'll let you start because
- 1:12mine's been all over the place. My week has been how you would
- 1:16imagine the start of an Easter holidays to be.
- 1:18Sickness, bugs, drowning in chocolate eggs and becoming
- 1:21regulars at the park. I feel like I see the same mums
- 1:25at the park and we're all like we're, we all just know, you
- 1:29know, we're all looking at each other thinking, oh, you're
- 1:31surviving. You're surviving through.
- 1:33You've had your third coffee of the day.
- 1:35Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:37To to be honest, we've been really lucky with the weather
- 1:40and plans, have genuinely well and truly been planning.
- 1:44I've had every single day so far.
- 1:46I think we've been doing something which has been really
- 1:48nice. But I will say we're about to
- 1:50start Week 2 and I've got no clue what I'm doing now.
- 1:53I've done it all. It gets worse.
- 1:54I'm all socialised. I don't want to see anyone.
- 1:57Yeah, I don't want to see anyone.
- 1:59How about you? How's your week been?
- 2:02Yeah, it's, it's OK, it's been, it was really nice because my,
- 2:05my mum was here, my mum and my stepdad came over from France
- 2:08for two weeks, which was really lovely.
- 2:10So, and obviously we had our week off the podcast life as
- 2:14well, which was a bit weird, not doing all the usual bits and
- 2:17bobs, but it was, it was really strange.
- 2:19But it's nice to have a little break.
- 2:21Yeah, mum was here, which was nice.
- 2:22We had like a little bit of help with Molly, which was lovely.
- 2:25Just having a lie in every now and again and like for her to,
- 2:28you know, offer to take her while I do the washing up rather
- 2:31than have a toddler pulling at my legs.
- 2:33Yeah, exactly. And obviously it was Easter,
- 2:35which was really lovely. So we had a little Easter egg,
- 2:37Easter egg hunt on Sunday, which was so nice.
- 2:41She really loved it. She had like little Bunny ears
- 2:43and like a little pretty dress. I love that.
- 2:45A little basket with a Bunny on it.
- 2:47And we put, I bought her like the little tiny, like, you know,
- 2:50like the Kinder eggs, like the bon bon kind of things.
- 2:53I bought her some of those and some little Kinder Bueno eggs
- 2:56and I put them inside like plastic shell eggs.
- 2:59And then I hid them around the garden.
- 3:01And then my mum hid some like, fancy eggs around the garden.
- 3:04And so she got the plastic ones and kept the chocolate inside.
- 3:08But the fancy one she took in and she was allowed to swap them
- 3:11for a bigger egg. So my mum bought some like,
- 3:15yeah, like, and she really, really enjoyed it.
- 3:17And absolutely, she's such a sweetheart.
- 3:20She shared them with everyone. She she came round with her
- 3:25basket. She said would you like an egg?
- 3:27She's giving everybody. An egg, and it was just so.
- 3:30Good. She's only two.
- 3:32I just think she's so good at sharing.
- 3:33It was so lovely. So we had a nice yeah.
- 3:35Then we had a roast, a roast dinner and then yeah, we're on.
- 3:39We're actually like late recording this week, aren't we?
- 3:42It's Thursday. This we normally record on a
- 3:43Monday, but it's a Thursday because I've had a bit of a
- 3:45dramatic week with family who are unwell.
- 3:48So it's been a little bit here and there, but we're OK.
- 3:50We're we're muddling through and it's nice to have our lovely,
- 3:54lovely podcast as a bit of a distraction this evening.
- 3:56So yeah, it's all good. We're all good.
- 4:02It's time for this or that. The part of the show where we
- 4:05give each other options and we explain which one we would
- 4:08choose and why. Pretty simple.
- 4:10You can play along at home as well.
- 4:11So this week I'm going to go first because I've got it in my
- 4:14head. I want to just get it out,
- 4:18actually practise saying this word before we started because.
- 4:21I was proud of We Get It Wrong. And I'll probably have people
- 4:24tell me that I've done it wrong anyway, but it's fine.
- 4:26I've gone with the surfer babe kind of vibe because, you know,
- 4:31we've all been in that sort of like, surfery shop where it
- 4:35smells like wet suits. Have you been in one of those
- 4:39shops where it literally smells like, like wet suits and boards
- 4:43And like. Yeah, like the.
- 4:44Sea. So I had vivid flashbacks of
- 4:49being at school and thinking it was really, really cool to wear
- 4:52board shorts. Can you remember?
- 4:54Oh, I remember board shorts. So I had a black pair with pink
- 4:59writing, hot pink writing down the side, cute.
- 5:03And they were Roxy. Can you remember Roxy?
- 5:06Yes, I can remember, Roxy. Oh my goodness.
- 5:10So now what this is going to? Be my this or that is now Roxy
- 5:16board shorts, the ones that come quite far down to your knees,
- 5:19but you know they were cool back then.
- 5:21Or have they Javiana flip flops. Javiana sounded.
- 5:29I think it's right. How I would think I would say it
- 5:31so proud of you. Javiana's, You know about the
- 5:33little flowers, the flip flops with the flowers and they've got
- 5:36like a strap with like an extra little line on.
- 5:39They were always really cool. If you were like part of the
- 5:42beach gang at school, you always had your Javianas on in the
- 5:46summer, so. Do you know what I would say?
- 5:48This is really easy for me because have you ever seen me in
- 5:50a pair of shorts? Very true.
- 5:54I haven't seen you in shorts. I've started.
- 5:56Wearing shorts, running, and I'm like, staring to see if anyone's
- 6:01around because I'm still so unnatural in them.
- 6:03Yeah. So I think I would say flip
- 6:06flops. OK, I love it.
- 6:08I was. I think that was quite easy for
- 6:09me. I was definitely a board shorts
- 6:12girl. I loved my board.
- 6:13Really. I thought I was so cool and I
- 6:17can tell you now. See, I always go.
- 6:18I was never cool. Well.
- 6:21I thought I was cool, I wasn't cool.
- 6:23I will go into this a little bit more later on, but I think it
- 6:26made me feel like I was a surfer babe.
- 6:29I definitely. OK.
- 6:31I have never been and never will be a surfer babe.
- 6:34I am a surfer body boarding babe because I don't know how to
- 6:37stand up on a boat. I've tried again and again and
- 6:40again and I've failed. So I'll be the body boarding
- 6:43babe. It's.
- 6:44OK, we can do that. Your term.
- 6:46So my this or that is very surfer babe themed, but also I
- 6:52think it's very Shannon Tay themed more than surfer babe.
- 6:54OK, surfer babe themed. OK, so seeing Surfer Babe live
- 7:01at the Eden Project, it's like we did.
- 7:05It's like we felt so lucky because we were in Cornwall
- 7:07watching Surfer Babe or seeing Britney being performed in 2025.
- 7:13We never thought that would happen.
- 7:14Oh. My God, that's so hard.
- 7:18Yeah, that's why I did. That's like my like busted
- 7:21versus McFly brain. Yeah, it's going to be like.
- 7:26That's what I was thinking. No fighting, no fighting, no
- 7:30fucking fighting, no. Fucking fighting what's
- 7:32happening? In my brain right now.
- 7:35It was. So do you know what?
- 7:38And it's for only this reason. Seeing Brittany was summing out
- 7:43seeing Charlie with his Brittany wife beater on was so good.
- 7:47Yeah, there was there was no James.
- 7:49So it just wasn't the same. So I think, Oh, OK, James had
- 7:54have been there. I think that would have that
- 7:58probably would have won because it's just been so long since
- 8:00I've heard that song. However, surfer babe's top tier
- 8:05is God tier for me surfer. But I love surfer babe and you
- 8:08know what? I know there are so many people
- 8:10that don't like this song and I'm just.
- 8:12Like, well, actually you've fully insulted me because my
- 8:18reason was surfer babe as well, but my reason was because you
- 8:22weren't with me when I saw Busted.
- 8:24So fuck you, Taylor. Forgot that you weren't there?
- 8:28Do. You know what?
- 8:31Because we started together and it was so nice.
- 8:33I know, but Shannon, every McFly concert I've ever been to,
- 8:36you've been there, apart from Busted versus McFly.
- 8:38So I feel like in my brain, you were there.
- 8:40You were there because you're always there.
- 8:42All right? McFly are in front of me.
- 8:43You're here. Not because I didn't, you know,
- 8:47I didn't realise. So sorry, no, it was great.
- 8:51It was it was amazing. But yeah, and, and I think the
- 8:54vibe of the Eden Project was so good because it's quite like
- 8:57it's not a massive, it's an intimate venue, it's not
- 9:00massive. It's outdoor as well, which is
- 9:02really cool. It was nice and.
- 9:03Warm I had a cider you had. I never have chance to like
- 9:10wander off and get a drink but it was so it felt really like UN
- 9:16relaxed. It felt very relaxed, very
- 9:20relaxed by very like no pressure.
- 9:22I still was front row. Like I wandered off and got a
- 9:26cider and still was front row. Exactly.
- 9:28There was no like push. Into and I got a cider because I
- 9:30thought, oh, I could potentially go to the toilet, which I've
- 9:34never felt like I needed. To go for a week, I can go
- 9:36exactly I can remember. I can't remember where we were.
- 9:40It was probably you, me at six. But you've definitely done it at
- 9:42a McFly gig before. You come back with two pints
- 9:45because you don't want to have to go and get the other one.
- 9:47That's what I did at the Eden. Project.
- 9:49And then you're dancing like this.
- 9:50Because when I saw when I saw Youngblood in Wales, they were
- 10:02coming round and they had like this flag and they were going
- 10:04through the crowd and like the servers were going with this
- 10:09flag and the pints were like the size of your head.
- 10:13It was like 3 pints in one in one.
- 10:15Phenomenal. I didn't have one because I was
- 10:17scared to weigh, but the girl in front of me did.
- 10:20She like she was having a great time.
- 10:24Honestly, if it was easier to have a weigh I'd be all over it,
- 10:27but it's not. I can remember when we went to
- 10:29Tunes and the Dunes quite a lot 5-6 years ago now.
- 10:34Quite a long time ago with Steve, our our mate Steve and
- 10:39I've got a picture because Tunes and the Dunes that year did
- 10:42stackable cups. So they had it was like a big
- 10:47plastic, like a like a pint pint glass but plastic with a handle
- 10:52that you could stack. I'm telling you now, I've got a
- 10:55picture of Steve and he's got like 6 pints because he's got
- 10:58like 3 stacked in this hand and three in the other and he's just
- 11:01like. Oh my goodness, that's I love
- 11:04that. It went, it was such a good
- 11:06photo, it went on the official Tunes in the Dunes page because
- 11:08it was just such. A.
- 11:10Just had so many peers. He was just like, it's great.
- 11:15Yeah. But yeah, I completely, I
- 11:18completely agree. I think Surfer Babe is
- 11:20definitely, I mean, like I said, if James had been there, that
- 11:24probably would have been a really difficult decision for
- 11:26me. But yeah, I think, I think we
- 11:28have to go. With and if I was there.
- 11:30And if you were there, babe, love you.
- 11:37It's time for Song of the Week. And this week we're talking
- 11:41about Surfer Bay by McFly. Yes, we are.
- 11:58This one comes from their debut era and you can really hear
- 12:02those surf rock Beach Boys inspired vibes.
- 12:06It's all over it. And even the whole like the
- 12:08whole album itself obviously Lent Lent Leaned Lent.
- 12:14Interesting. I'm a teacher should definitely
- 12:17know that. I'm going to go with Leaned
- 12:20leaned heavily into that sort of like sunny pop rock vibe.
- 12:24We got a lot of that in this album, but I think Surfer Baby
- 12:28is just the ultimate sunny pop rock song.
- 12:32Oh yeah, definitely. It's so cheeky and fun.
- 12:34It's just one of those songs that, like, instantly transports
- 12:37you somewhere, like somewhere warm, even if you actually just,
- 12:41you know, sat in your kitchen in the UK with a cup of tea.
- 12:45Yeah, well, that's where we are most of the time, I suppose.
- 12:48It does give you the sense of summer freedom, I think, doesn't
- 12:51it? And like, you know, when you're
- 12:53younger and, like, you finish school for the summer and you've
- 12:56got no responsibilities and you're genuinely most concerned
- 13:00with whether or not your crush is going to be at the beach
- 13:03later, what you're going to wear?
- 13:05Are you going to wear your happy Anna flick?
- 13:07Online on MSN. Are you going to wear your happy
- 13:10other flip flops or your board shorts or you know what I mean,
- 13:14that sort of vibe? Exactly.
- 13:17And you know what? Ellie McFly did this really
- 13:19well. They captured that like carefree
- 13:22teen feeling without even sounding forced.
- 13:25Absolutely. And I think it's really
- 13:26impossible to listen to this song without, like, feeling
- 13:28happy because it makes you feel. Like you're bright and 100%.
- 13:31Just smiling all over. Yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 13:35This is like McFly in like full sunshine pop mode.
- 13:38And it honestly it's, I think it's one of those like
- 13:42underrated album tracks that deserves way more love than it
- 13:45does get. Absolutely agree with you.
- 13:49Shall we crack straight on with the ratings?
- 13:51Because I feel like this is going to be a pretty easy song
- 13:53of the week section because I know how you feel about this
- 13:56song and you know how I feel about.
- 13:58Julia, I do love this song. I actually haven't thought about
- 14:01my rating. I've not.
- 14:03I haven't either. It's on the.
- 14:04Spot. Yeah, I normally I like, I think
- 14:08about it in like before we record, but I think off the cuff
- 14:13I'm going to go 9 it's. A big win from Shan.
- 14:20Everybody finally big win from Shan.
- 14:23We've got we've got another big, big God tier song for.
- 14:26You I told you end of this album is like 10 out of 10 for me.
- 14:30Like it's a good. They smash every song.
- 14:33Surfer Baby is just one of those songs where it's like there is
- 14:36no pressure in this song at all to like, I know I talk about
- 14:40like the fact that I love storytelling, but there's no
- 14:42pressure behind the storytelling.
- 14:44It's so there is like no love story.
- 14:48There's no, you know, like cutesy moment.
- 14:52There's no deeper meaningful. It is just fun.
- 14:56Chill. I love it, I love it.
- 15:00And it's so sing alongable. Sing alongable.
- 15:02Sing alongable. Sing alongable.
- 15:04I love that. That's a really good adjective.
- 15:06I'm not sure it's a real go TA. I'm here, I'm here for it.
- 15:09Sing alongable. Sing alongable.
- 15:13Put it in the. Dictionary.
- 15:14I love it. I completely agree.
- 15:15What's yours? I'm going to give it a nine.
- 15:18I'm going to give it a nine. And do you know what?
- 15:20Like I said earlier, I know, I know how many people don't like
- 15:24this song. And so many people are like,
- 15:26like, I've heard it live and they were like, the hell is this
- 15:29rubbish? Yeah.
- 15:32Move on over you go to the bar. And.
- 15:35I'll be a barrier, absolutely dance in my life away because
- 15:39this. Song.
- 15:41Just gets it. I'll just I just like does gets
- 15:43that that vibe that like energy. It's just got.
- 15:47I love it so much. I absolutely love it.
- 15:48Feel good. That's what it feels is and like
- 15:51I can see us like on a green, like with a see Max and Asani
- 15:58with a sun on us, with our kids around us and we could still
- 16:01listen to that song around our children and I think genuinely
- 16:05they would probably love it as well.
- 16:07My daughter would definitely dance to that.
- 16:08Actually might might test it tomorrow.
- 16:11There we go. Maybe.
- 16:12Shut it because in the car she's in her car seat.
- 16:14So she can sort of do this, but she doesn't really.
- 16:16She does this every now and again, which is quite fun, but
- 16:20you can't actually see her dancing.
- 16:21So might give that a go this weekend.
- 16:23Yeah, definitely 9. I love it.
- 16:25I just think it does tell a little bit of a story because it
- 16:28is, you know, he's telling a bit of a story, isn't he?
- 16:31But I don't feel like it's, like you said, there's no pressure
- 16:34behind the story. There's no like, oh, I'm in love
- 16:36with you and you know, oh, you've got another man coming
- 16:40and all that. Like, it's not.
- 16:41It's not about that at all. It's very much like I'm on the
- 16:44beach. I just want to date a surfer
- 16:46babe. The surfer babes are so cool.
- 16:48And. I, like I said earlier, will
- 16:51want nothing more than to be a surfer, babe.
- 16:54Shannon and I. When I tell you I'll give it a
- 16:56good go. I'm no Lucy Donlon.
- 17:00I'm no Lucy Donlon. I'd love to be.
- 17:03I'm not. I'm really not.
- 17:06Hey, hang on. I see the unapproving, you know.
- 17:10I saw that. Patronising, are you?
- 17:15Sure you're not Lucy Donlon? I thought.
- 17:17I thought you were. I thought for those of you that.
- 17:19Don't know who she is. By the way, Lisa Colmond was on
- 17:24Love Island, Love Island fair amount of time ago and she's a
- 17:29surfer from Cornwall. It's the only the only famous
- 17:31person pretty much that Cornwall.
- 17:33She does the Boston podcast with me apparently.
- 17:36Yeah, she totally does. Oh my God, she's a 10 out of 10.
- 17:39Fair play to her. She is absolutely stunned.
- 17:43I would love nothing more than to be a surf babe, but I can't
- 17:47surf and I get, like I said, give it a good go.
- 17:49I had surf lessons for a whole summer.
- 17:53Proud of you. No, no.
- 17:57Oh, proud of you still. Up on my board but fell straight
- 18:02off every time. I've got no balance, I've got
- 18:05nothing, and then I fell off one day.
- 18:07Bambi on water. Like a Bambi on water.
- 18:09I fell off one day because a long border literally rode over
- 18:12the top of my head and like, it pushed me under the water and it
- 18:16was really horrible and scary. And I just haven't really been
- 18:18back in the water since. We're not on a board.
- 18:21So I'm more than happy on my body board with the kids in the
- 18:24break. That's me.
- 18:32You know, McFly, if you're into, you know, body boarding babes,
- 18:37hey. There we go, I'm your girl, I'm
- 18:39your girl. I want to be a body boarding
- 18:42babe. I'm not sure I could be classed
- 18:44as a babe either anymore because I'm like 33.
- 18:47Hey, don't do yourself dirty. Grey hair, you know, had a baby,
- 18:52so I'm not sure I've got the wash balls stomach.
- 18:54I used to, but I'm still, you know, I could still be a body
- 18:58body babe. I can give it a go for you, Tom,
- 19:00if you want it, you know, just hit me up, hit me up.
- 19:03We can meet on the beach for a body born in sunshine.
- 19:06You're sounding a bit feral. Oh, sorry, calm down.
- 19:10This is not that kind of broadcast.
- 19:16It's Tom Fletcher. Oh, no, I was off.
- 19:18I really can't. It's.
- 19:18Just it's him and. His chickens.
- 19:20It's him and his chickens. It really is.
- 19:22That's. That's chickens.
- 19:23That's chickens on his golden retriever.
- 19:30So we've given you some naughties pop classic songs to
- 19:33think about. So we thought this week we would
- 19:36bring back one of those classic naughties feel good movies and I
- 19:39think it actually goes pretty well with our song of the week
- 19:42being Surfer Babe. Oh yeah, this week we are
- 19:46talking about the 2006 classic that is Aquamarine.
- 19:50Well done, Shannon. Just to let you all know, we had
- 19:53three takes of Shannon trying to say that word we ended up with.
- 19:57Marine. We end up in bits of laughter,
- 20:00so we actually got there in the end.
- 20:01Well done Baze. We.
- 20:02Got there I'm proud of. Myself so those of you those of
- 20:06you that have keep your eyes on our stories on Instagram
- 20:09probably remember seeing this probably a couple of weeks ago
- 20:13now by the time this comes out I had a little movie night in and
- 20:16I was doing the editing for one of the episodes and in the
- 20:20background I was watching aquamarine.
- 20:22So it was one of those movies that I think we remember quite a
- 20:28lot from when we were. I was like a young teenager at
- 20:31this time. Like I can remember being
- 20:33probably like 14, maybe 1314. And I think we were just about
- 20:38the right age. Like literally age.
- 20:40It's very teeny. It's very girly.
- 20:43I watched it the other day and I was just like, Oh my God, this
- 20:45is tragically good. Do you know what I mean?
- 20:47Like it's one of those tragically good girls films.
- 20:50Absolutely awful. It's brilliant.
- 20:52It's so, yeah, it's just great. So it actually was originally a
- 20:57book and the movie is loosely based on the book.
- 21:00It's not really the same story, but it's loosely based on it.
- 21:04It follows the story of 212 year old best friends with they're
- 21:08playing 12 year olds. Because in it I don't feel like
- 21:10they're 12 year olds. I feel that.
- 21:11Like I feel like they're like 15, but they're not.
- 21:14Yeah, I think they're definitely older than 12 year olds.
- 21:17Yes, played by JoJo and obviously JoJo.
- 21:22Last week we talked about JoJo and her song Leave Get Out,
- 21:25which is what spurred us into thinking about Aquamarine.
- 21:28So it links quite well with last week's episode.
- 21:31So it starred JoJo and Emma Roberts from loads of different
- 21:34things. If you remember I love Emma
- 21:36Roberts, that was one of my favourite movies.
- 21:38I used to love Wild Child. Wild child always reminds me of
- 21:42you. Yeah, we, we used to watch it
- 21:45where we had like little sleepovers at your university
- 21:47flat, didn't we? Used to love that, Used to want
- 21:50to sleep with love it she was. Also brilliant in American
- 21:53Horror. American Horror Story.
- 21:55Horror Story? Yes.
- 21:57You're a big fan. Of that, I love it, yeah.
- 22:01In the live bit of a wuss and I watched Freak Show and it scared
- 22:04the living daylights out of me. So I have oh, don't watch the
- 22:06Freak show. Yeah, no, it wasn't good.
- 22:08Start with murder house. I think you would genuinely love
- 22:11Murder House. Well, we've talked about what
- 22:14happened. The new Yeah, and apparently the
- 22:18what's the other? The one with the Lady Gaga in.
- 22:22Oh yeah, yeah, a hotel. Yeah, apparently that's supposed
- 22:25to be good as well, so I might, might give it a go.
- 22:28We watched now. Witchy try coven.
- 22:30Yeah, and we watched Nurse Ratchet and that was quite good.
- 22:33I quite enjoyed that. And obviously she's character
- 22:36based from that, so we'll give it a go.
- 22:37Anyway, back to Aquamarine, very different vibe.
- 22:41Completely. Different vibe up there.
- 22:43So Emma Roberts, obviously she's been in loads as well.
- 22:46And it's also got Sarah Paxton in who is the the main character
- 22:50Aquarine. And we also see what's her name,
- 22:54Ariel Cabell, who plays Cecilia and she is in quite a lot of
- 22:58movies that you might recognise her from, but she was really
- 23:02popular from John Tucker Must Die where she plays like a bit
- 23:05cheerleader. So good.
- 23:07But she's been in loads as well, and she plays like the most
- 23:10annoying character in this. But it's really quite funny.
- 23:13Yeah. So it follows their story.
- 23:15They are facing the and the end of summer and a very big
- 23:19separation because Haley is going to be moving to Australia
- 23:24with her mum, who's a marine biologist who's got like a new
- 23:27job. And she's been, she's sort of
- 23:29like been given this amazing opportunity.
- 23:31And Haley is like not up for it because she does not want to
- 23:33leave her best friend and she just doesn't know how she's
- 23:35going to like get away with not going.
- 23:38So they actually end up having a sleepover and they do like a
- 23:42silly like spell almost. It's like a wish, but they'd
- 23:47like do like a chant and stuff. It's quite funny.
- 23:49And they wish for the gods to to stop Haley from moving and it
- 23:55creates a massive storm. And during the storm, a mermaid
- 23:59named Aquamarine washes into the club swimming pool where they
- 24:02are staying. So it's a pretty interesting
- 24:05start to the story, knowing that there's a mermaid in the swim
- 24:08swimming pool outside, which is quite funny.
- 24:10But it's very much like that teen drama.
- 24:13Like it's the two girls that are like pining over the lifeguard
- 24:16boy that's a little bit older than them that they're like
- 24:19absolutely besotted with. He's called Raymond, which I
- 24:22just think is such a good name. Ohh.
- 24:24Raymond. What's a name?
- 24:28And when they meet Aquamarine for the first time, she tells
- 24:33them that she's run away from an arranged marriage where her her
- 24:36father is like arranged a marriage for her and she has to
- 24:40prove to him that true love exists within three days to be
- 24:44able to avoid marrying this gentleman.
- 24:46So she falls in love with Raymond, much to the girl's
- 24:49dismay, and they have to try and help her to get him to say that
- 24:55he loves Aqua and in return she will grant them a wish.
- 25:00And the wish, obviously, would be for her to not have.
- 25:02To Oh yeah, for her to not have to move yeah, yeah, yes so.
- 25:06It's really lovely because it's got a lot of like friendship
- 25:10undertones, which I think is really lovely because it's not
- 25:12about love, it's not about like boy love.
- 25:14It's about the friendship I. Think that's so like typical of
- 25:18that genre of movie at that time where like it's it's Rome.
- 25:23It's like a ROM com for kids. So there's not really a huge,
- 25:28huge amount of like romance as much as best friend vibe.
- 25:33Think Sleepover Club, that kind of vibe.
- 25:36Yeah, it was it's very typical of the time for it to end up
- 25:40being friendship love. Do you know what I mean?
- 25:42Very typical of the time. Exactly.
- 25:45So Aquamarine falls in love with Raymond.
- 25:48She's trying to get Raymond to say that he loves her.
- 25:50But obviously they've only known each other for like a few days
- 25:52because they've got 3 days and that's it.
- 25:54And that's not a lot of time to convince somebody that.
- 25:58Sorry Jack, that's really loud. Sorry.
- 26:01Jack's eating a packet of crisps.
- 26:03I can hear it in the microphone. Picking it up.
- 26:06Are you done, Jack? Oh, bless him.
- 26:12Talking in the middle of I I stopped in the middle of a
- 26:14sentence as well. Sorry.
- 26:17So yeah, Aquamarine falls into the sea from the pier and the
- 26:23girls decide to jump in and save her.
- 26:27Although Claire's parents actually died at sea, they
- 26:31drowned on a boat. So it's really like scary for
- 26:34her to be going in the water, but she risks her life to go and
- 26:36save her friend. And that's the proves that true
- 26:40love is real because they they're like gathered around
- 26:43this little boy, like not little boy as in, you know, like the
- 26:46boys out at sea, like the floating.
- 26:47Boys, Yeah. Yeah, And you know, she says,
- 26:51why would you do that for me? You could have died.
- 26:53And she says because we love you, Aqua.
- 26:54And then then there's a magical rainbow and glitter and it's
- 26:58just all very, very beautiful. So it's a lovely, feel good teen
- 27:03story. And I just remember it being so
- 27:06much fun when I was younger. I just love watching it and it
- 27:09made me used to make me really sad because my best friend when
- 27:12I was 14, when I was 14, when I was 12, moved to Australia.
- 27:15So it made me feel very like, oh.
- 27:17My goodness. Yeah, like I wasn't alone.
- 27:19And actually they choose to not move that, not to use their
- 27:22wish. In the end, they promised to
- 27:24stay best friends even though that they're going to move far
- 27:27apart because Haley realises that it's a massive thing for
- 27:30her mum to have made this big step in her career and it's not
- 27:33fair for her to, like, make her not do it just for her sake.
- 27:36So it's really, I know it's really lovely.
- 27:39Yeah. They all grow up in the end and
- 27:41it's beautiful. It's very lovely story.
- 27:43But yeah, it's definitely one that will bring back memories
- 27:46for a very, very long time. Especially seeing it like the
- 27:48cover and like her tail and it's just so cute.
- 27:51I just love it so good. How amazing as well that like,
- 27:54so earlier we found out that it was actually filmed in Australia
- 27:58and yeah, she's in the movie. She's supposed to be moving to
- 28:01Australia. To Australia, Yeah.
- 28:03So it's supposedly set in Florida, but they actually
- 28:06filmed it in Queensland, Australia, I imagine just
- 28:08because the beaches are, you know, less busy, beautiful on
- 28:12certain times of the year. And they are beautiful, yeah.
- 28:14But I imagine Florida is like packed all year round, or as I
- 28:17measure this, Australia is so vast, isn't it, that there's so
- 28:20many places that you could go and not be surrounded by people?
- 28:23So yeah, a really good, a really nice, feel good Beachy movie
- 28:29that goes pretty well with our song of the week, I think.
- 28:31So, yeah. If you guys have seen
- 28:33Aquamarine, please let us know what you think of it in the
- 28:36comments or send us Adm. Or if you haven't seen it and
- 28:39you fancy a feel good teeny girly vibe, then Chuck it on
- 28:43because it's on somewhere. I found it online.
- 28:45I can't remember where I found it, but I found it online so you
- 28:48can watch it from a comfort of your own home.
- 28:52But equally, if you have any movies that you think should
- 28:55belong in this category, let us know, because we are so open to
- 29:00watching early 2000s movies in our spare time.
- 29:03Yeah. It's a new hobby of mine just
- 29:07going and you know what? My husband's exactly the same.
- 29:09We we started looking for like like 90s movies to watch because
- 29:13they're just so good. Like the 90's, the 90s and
- 29:17naughties were just a great era for films.
- 29:19Films have just got so crap recently.
- 29:22They're just so rubbish. So we are all here for it.
- 29:24So if you've got any recommendations, send them on
- 29:27over. OK, welcome back to an old
- 29:33segment that hasn't been around for a while.
- 29:36Very exciting. It's time for Quote Corner.
- 29:40Have you missed saying that? I really have it's.
- 29:45Time for quote Corner Corner. Exactly this.
- 29:49Like this segment. Just.
- 29:50I mean, it does what it says on the tin.
- 29:52This is where we bring you a real quote from McFly or Busted
- 29:55Universe. Yeah, that's literally what it
- 29:59is. So mine this week is a bit deep,
- 30:02I'm not going to lie, but it is so freaking cute and it's so
- 30:07relevant to us and life. And yeah, it's from Matty Boy
- 30:10Willis. Matty boy.
- 30:12Love him. I saw this on an On the Mend
- 30:16clip a couple of weeks ago. And when we were talking about
- 30:19bringing this back, I thought this, I saved it.
- 30:21I was like, this is a quote I really want to use and I want to
- 30:24use it on our first one back so I don't forget about it.
- 30:27Good. Love that because it is in my
- 30:29head that good. So yeah, the quote says the
- 30:33quote goes like this. My kids have taught me more
- 30:35about life than most adults, which is bizarre.
- 30:39You know, when I think about it, they've taught me how to slow
- 30:41down, which is a massive thing for me.
- 30:43They've taught me to listen rather than to try and get my
- 30:46point across. They've put me to play and I
- 30:48always thought I was quite playful anyway, but they really
- 30:52taught me to play. They've taught me to be honest.
- 30:55They taught me to be really, really honest and how important
- 30:58being honest is because kids see through your ACT, you know, they
- 31:02actually see who you really are and they know when you're
- 31:05bullshit in when you say, when you're saying something that you
- 31:08don't really feel or you know not to be true.
- 31:11They can see that shit. They that used to scare me,
- 31:14knowing that they could see, that they could really, really
- 31:17see me. But now I think it's helped me
- 31:20become more of who I actually want to be.
- 31:23It's the best job in the world, It's the most important job in
- 31:27the world. But God, it's bloody hard,
- 31:30right? Wow, that's great.
- 31:34What? A lovely quote.
- 31:36It's amazing and so, so true. You don't think about it like,
- 31:40until you really think about it. I think as well.
- 31:42Like, yeah, being a parent, there's so much to it.
- 31:45And I think my little one's obviously really small, but I'm
- 31:48still learning those things day by day.
- 31:50But that's so lovely. What a wonderful quote.
- 31:52I love how he's. I love the.
- 31:53Bit where he's like, yeah, Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 31:56I love the bit where he's like, he's taught me.
- 31:59They've taught me to slow down because that is exact.
- 32:02So I find myself all the time. I watched this video once where
- 32:06it was like, you're not in a rush like this woman.
- 32:09It's it's just a little video where she's telling herself all
- 32:12the time, slow down. You're not in a rush.
- 32:15This isn't a race and I found myself doing that all the time.
- 32:20Like why am I telling my kids off for taking too long to put
- 32:23their shoes on when we actually I naturally leave 15 minutes
- 32:28early because I know it's going to take us a while.
- 32:31So why am I rushing them? And it's so true.
- 32:33They really do teach you to slow down the small moments like
- 32:37putting your shoes on to like the even bigger moments when
- 32:40you're like about their parents evening or you're like watching
- 32:44them bond with a friend. Yeah, you know.
- 32:47Like they're telling you about a story or they're doing something
- 32:49for the first time they haven't done before, trying something
- 32:51new. So true.
- 32:53I think as well, like it's, it's important to like let kids do
- 32:58stuff on their own and like it's really hard to like not like,
- 33:01like Molly coddle them. Do you know what I mean?
- 33:03Especially when they're really young and I get really nervous
- 33:06and like I know my mum and my having my mum here made it
- 33:09really, really obvious. Like where I get my anxiety from
- 33:12because my mum and my nan both do it.
- 33:16They always say be careful, be careful, careful all the time.
- 33:21And I find myself doing it with Molly and I'm like, Oh my God, I
- 33:24need to cut this out because. My mum does it all the time.
- 33:27She's just walking, she's fine. Yeah.
- 33:30And it's such a. Profound myself, I found myself
- 33:34saying don't worry, she's fine like.
- 33:36That's why I. Will jump off things.
- 33:38I went out for Dent for a cup of tea earlier with a friend who is
- 33:42I'm 32, she's 80 years old. And we went for a cup of tea at
- 33:47her house and Arya was jumping off the sofa and she was like Oh
- 33:51no, no, no, no, be careful, be careful.
- 33:53And I literally had to tell her, look, she has spent her whole
- 33:57life being careful and now she's just, yeah, now she's just just
- 34:03let her be a kid, Just let her do it.
- 34:04And if she feels I've had to learn, she won't do it again.
- 34:08And also I think as well like you've got to let them take
- 34:11risks like and I think. Yeah.
- 34:14Like that's a massive thing, letting them take small,
- 34:16obviously not big risks. Like I wouldn't let her like
- 34:19climb a ladder. Do you know what I mean?
- 34:20Like a big ladder or like jump off a pier or something.
- 34:23But like she's jumping off of the side of the sofa into a load
- 34:27of cushions on the floor. She's not going to hurt herself.
- 34:29She might bump her. No, exactly.
- 34:31Bump her knee, but she's not going to hurt herself, like
- 34:33badly. There's nothing around that can
- 34:35help. I think that I, what I really
- 34:37liked about the quote was that they've taught him to play and I
- 34:40love that. I think that's so cute.
- 34:42And he says, I always thought that I was quite playful anyway,
- 34:45but they really taught me to play.
- 34:46I love that. Because you don't, as an adult,
- 34:50you don't have time to like do things that you love anymore.
- 34:53Like it's hard to find time to fit things in.
- 34:55You know, like, like even finding time to do this, like we
- 34:58have to literally dedicate ourselves like 2 hours once a
- 35:01week to be able to do it. And then we have the editing and
- 35:03the socials and all the other things that go with it.
- 35:05Like it's not, it's not just a quick thing, but we love it.
- 35:08And this is like, part of like why we do it is because we
- 35:11actually enjoy doing it. It's not, we don't do it for
- 35:14money. We're not making any money.
- 35:16We're probably, probably spending more money than we are
- 35:18anything else, buying microphones and tech and paying
- 35:20for clean feed and you know, all these things that we use, like
- 35:23we're not, we're not getting anything for it, but like we do
- 35:25it because we enjoy it. And that's the most important
- 35:27thing. I think that as we grow up, we
- 35:30forget to do that, get to have fun.
- 35:31I love taking Marley to the park and when I take it to the park
- 35:34you better believe I'm getting on the swing like I'm on that
- 35:38swing and I'm swinging as high. Pushing possibly go, yeah.
- 35:41Oh my God, she loves it. She's going higher, mummy.
- 35:43Higher. Like she wants to go higher, you
- 35:45know, I think that's lovely. What a lovely quote from Matt
- 35:47that, you know, really as parents, we could probably all
- 35:50take that on a little bit because I bet a lot of us don't
- 35:53don't see that every day. Lush.
- 35:55And yes, it is bloody hard, Matt.
- 35:57You're right. It's very, very hard.
- 35:59But we do it because we love them and because it's the the
- 36:02best gift in the world, isn't it?
- 36:04So good job, 100%. Mine's mine's actually.
- 36:08It is still quite sentimental, quite nice in a very different
- 36:11way. It's from Tom.
- 36:12I've just, I can't get enough Tom at the moment.
- 36:14I don't know what it is. There's just something about
- 36:16him. I had a dream about him.
- 36:18I can't remember what happened in the dream.
- 36:20Yeah, I can't remember. There were chickens in the
- 36:22dream. So I think I was probably living
- 36:23at his house and there were chickens there.
- 36:26Because I know I'm watching all of Giovanna's stories as well,
- 36:30and there's lots of chickens in her stories too.
- 36:32So I just can't stop thinking about the Fletchers and their
- 36:34chickens. So Tom was doing a an interview.
- 36:40Well, I wasn't just Tom, They were all doing an interview.
- 36:41And the interviewer said to Tom, what moments stand out most from
- 36:45your career or what's the most memorable part of being in
- 36:48McFly? That was the sort of question
- 36:50that came from them. And TomTom said meeting and
- 36:54performing with their idols was more memorable than any award
- 36:59they have ever won. And he said it's also never an
- 37:02award that springs to mind. Whenever people ask us that
- 37:05question, it's usually the moments when you're playing to a
- 37:07big audience and everyone's singing along and having a great
- 37:11time. And I just think that's so cute.
- 37:13Like, how lovely is that? Like this man has like, stood in
- 37:16front of like the most famous people.
- 37:18He's probably partied and had dinner and gone on holiday with,
- 37:23you know, the most amazing, fantastic people been on, you
- 37:26know, private jets and big, you know, boats and been able to do
- 37:30things that we, as, you know, working class people haven't
- 37:33been able to do because. Yeah, exactly.
- 37:36Because he's got an amazing career and he's done so well for
- 37:38himself. But actually for him, the most
- 37:40memorable stand out part of his career is standing in front of
- 37:43people like us and watching us have a good time.
- 37:46I just love that. I think it really it makes you
- 37:49realise the kind of people that they are and that's why we love
- 37:53McFly so much. They are we made.
- 37:55The right people famous. Oh my God, 100%.
- 37:57They, they haven't let fame go to their head.
- 37:59They haven't gone mad with, you know, they don't wander around
- 38:03in flashy things and you know, like they don't spend loads of
- 38:07money on stupid things. They have families that they
- 38:09love and they care for. They have children, they have
- 38:11people around them, they chickens, Dennis, you know, and
- 38:16they share their lives with us and I love that they share their
- 38:18lives with us. I love watching Tom's stories.
- 38:21I love watching G and Carrie and all their stories and like Matt
- 38:25and all these things with cabaret and doggies, little, you
- 38:28know, non alcoholic drink tours and it's just, you know, Harry
- 38:32with his running and Danny with his motorbikes and everything.
- 38:35I just love it. I just, I think it's great that
- 38:37we get to peek into their lives as actual human beings and not
- 38:41just as musicians. And that for them that we, we
- 38:47hold or we, yeah, we hold such a big part of their lives in that
- 38:52like the best times of their lives is standing in stage, on
