Now I, Paul myself beg you by the meekness and gentleness of

Christ, who in presence and base among you, but being absent and

bold toward you. So here Paul is going to try to

defend his Apostolic authority, not that he needs to, but there

were some Corinthians here in the church, the vocal minority,

who just wanted to try and tear him down and just wanted to try

and act as if he was bold in his letters.

But he was very cowardly in his presence.

And just like our Lord Jesus Christ, there was nothing to

draw people to him. There are many historical

accounts that say that Paul was not very impressive to look
7:44
upon. And we know that that is what
7:46
the Word of God tells us about Jesus, that there was nothing to
7:50
draw us to him. And so you need to understand,

and God's ways are not man's ways.

God looks at the internal, He does not look at the external,

friends. He judges us by the motives of
8:05
our heart. And what we do in secret, He
8:08
will reward openly too. But I beg you that I may not be
8:12
bold when I'm present with you with that confidence, wherewith
8:17
I think to be bold against some which think of us as if we
8:22
walked according to the flesh. He's saying, listen, I don't
8:26
want to have to be rough and tumble with you when I come.

I want you to get it right before I ever come, so that I
8:31
can come gentle and meek and mild.

I don't want to have to come and rebuke, and I don't want to have
8:37
to be stern and I don't want to have to embarrass you and

correct you in front of the congregation.

And so he's saying, get it right before I come.

We're not walking after the flesh.

That's the reason Paul decided not to go to Corinth on his

second time through is because he wanted to wait until they had

repented and made it right before he came to them so that

he wasn't in the flesh. And that's something we all need

to be on guard about. Friends, you need to make sure

and understand that sometimes when we have hurt feelings and

we feel offended, we'll get in the flesh and we'll say things

that are sideways and we need to make sure that we make it right.

Go and seek an apology. Repent friends, make sure you

make it right and just admit when you're wrong, OK?

There are times where we will be in the flesh and it doesn't make

it right, but we are human and we're not perfect but we are
9:42
being sanctified and it should be less and less as time goes

by. Be quick to listen and slow to
9:48
speak and slow to anger. But there are times we get

offended and we get out there in our flesh and far be it from us
9:55
to act in a carnal worldly way. That is just the based friends,

we need to make sure that when we wrong people we ask for an

apology. 3/4 Though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after

the flesh. So we got to put on the full

armor of God. And that is what Paul is going

to reference here. For the weapons of our warfare

are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down

of strongholds. So the Romans, whenever they

would go into a city after they had conquered it, they tear down

all of the defense, all the forts, all the fortifications,

all the little hideouts and the dugouts.

They tear all that down. And Paul here had in his mind

that that is what we do whenever we take over hostile territory,

when we go into the darkness was we expose the enemy, we expose

the lies, friends. And Christian counseling is just

listening to somebody and listening for the lies of the

enemy and replacing them with the truth of God.

But how would you know the truth if you're not in the truth, if

you're not reading the truth, if you don't own the truth, if

you're not steeped in the truth of God, which is the Bible.

That's the book for me from Genesis to Revelation, friends.

And we when we know the truth, we will know the Savior.

Friends, we tear down those strongholds.

We have the mighty power of God. We're not steeped in the carnal.

Friends 5 casting down imaginations and every high

thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and

bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of

Christ. That's the whole point of the

whole matter, friends. The war is won or lost in the

mind. If you have not yet perfected

the art of taking every single thought captive as it comes into

your mind, you will be brought down.

It is your thoughts that betray you, friends.

And whenever we entertain all of the little things that come into

our mind and we're not replacing them with what the word of God

says. When we don't set our minds on

holy things, when we don't set our minds on pure things, When

we allow even the slightest thoughts to come into our minds

that are carnal and worldly and worry and anxiety and depressed

depression and all of the garbage that comes in, and it's

coming in in a relentless space. And we must unplug from the

garbage, Friends. Quit watching all of the secular

garbage. Quit listening to all the

secular garbage. Get rooted and grounded in the
12:47
Word of God. Be edified, friends, and watch

how His Word washes over your mind and makes you a new

creation day by day, moment by moment, second by second,

heartbeat by heartbeat. We do not get a day off,

friends. We do not get to check out

friends. We do not just get to be amused,

friends. Don't turn off.

Don't unplug from the things of God.

Quit allowing the world systems to dominate your thoughts and

your minds, friends. You have to get this one.

You have to understand the gravity of what is at stake,

Friends. It is so incredibly important

for us to be able to control the things that are coming into our

minds. You are not a victim, friends.

We've got to get out of the victim mentality and we must

step into the power of God and tear all these vain imaginations

and all these vain images and all of the vain advertisements,

friends, and the commercials and all of the garbage that you

watch. And you could tell me more about

the show that you're into and the movies that you're into than

you can about the Word of God. And far be it from us to be so

steeped in the world that we turn our backs and have no

spiritual appetite and no spiritual hunger for the things

that actually have life and meaning and substance, friends.

And not just for this life, but for the life to come.

We need to get out of all of the disgusting cycles that we have

found ourselves in. And we must come up to a higher

spiritual plateau. We must come up to where He is.

He invites us into the throne room.

He invites us into the holiest of holy places.

He invites us to be clothed with righteousness and to be covered

in the blood of Jesus Christ. But we keep selling our

birthright for a mess of pottage.

Far be it from us 6 and having in a readiness to revenge all

disobedience. When your obedience is

fulfilled, it's going to make you absolutely upset.

When you find yourself in a state that you've turned your

back on God. You're going to be holy

discontent whenever you find yourself wandered away from the

Lord, when you have tasted and seen that the Lord is good.

And then through a sequence of events, you find yourself far

away from where you used to be and he says, return back to your

first love and you will take revenge against the enemy and

all the schemes every time. When you finally get back right

with God, when you finally re surrender and recommit your life

to God, when you see those same old friends peeking their ugly

heads in, you'll be able to identify them and say, not this

time, not today Satan, get thee behind me.

We're not doing this. We're not going there.

You'll take revenge when your obedience is made complete.

Then you will see all of the disgusting schemes and tricks of

the enemy as he comes in, and his tactics are to steal, kill

and destroy. And if they worked all the way

back in the garden. And if it's not broke, don't fix

it. He's still doing the exact same

thing today. These little deceptive lies

twisting God's word, trying to get you to believe that God is

holding out on you, that he doesn't actually have your best

in mind. But when your obedience is

finally made full, you'll be able to understand all of the

disgusting trickery of the enemy, and he is defeated in the

name of Jesus Christ. Seven.

Do you look on things after the outward appearance?

If any man trusts to himself that he is Christ, let him of

himself think this again, that as he is Christ, Even so are we

Christ. So he's talking to the

Corinthian church and he's saying you want a show man, you

want a televangelist, you want somebody who has all the

charisma. And there are many that are on

dirt Hut floors, tin roof that are going out.

And they do not have the garb of a costly St.

They do not have the private jet in the limousine and the large

mansion. But they are no less a servant

of God Almighty. And he's saying do not look at

the outward appearance, don't try.

Paul is telling them, just because I'm a tent maker, I

haven't asked for a single dime from you.

Don't try and put me and relegate me to a lower position

than those who are flying high on the backs of those in the

congregation who are being manipulated to give 8.

For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority

which the Lord has given us for edification and not for your

destruction, I should not be ashamed.

So he's saying the authority that is given to the workers of

God are for the building up of the church, not for the Lording

over as in the ways of the Gentile world.

Friends, far be it from us to not look any different than the

business meetings, to not look any different than the secular

world systems within the Church of God.

We need to be called up to a higher operating level, the

level that Christ dealt with his disciples, not with the way that

an authoritarian deals with his subjects. 9 That I may not seem

as if I would terrify you by letters.

So Paul is saying if he has to come harshly in person, he will,

but he'd rather do it from a distance and with the letters

ten. For his letters, they say are

weighty and powerful, but his bodily presence is weak and his

speech is contemptible. So here they are making fun of

Paul and they're saying in person he's nothing like he is

in his letters. Think about an almighty God who

has all the power, who spoke everything into existence and he

comes as a little baby, helpless.

It is the way of our God. 11 Let such one think this, that such

as we are in Word by letters when we are absent, such will we

be also indeed when we are present.

He's saying, don't think that we don't have the ability to come

in the same manner and matter of our letters in person.

He said we will, if we have to, 12 For we dare not make

ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that

commend themselves. But they measuring themselves by

themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are

not wise. Our standard, our measuring

stick friends, is Jesus Christ and it is unattainable within

these mortal bodies, but we press for that.

But when we are comparing ourselves with ourselves, we

will think of ourselves as high minded and the Bible tells us

multiple times, do not be wise in your own eyes.

And that is why friends, because our goal is Christ.

It's not a looking left or right at our constituents.

We press on towards Christ. We don't measure ourselves by

the successes of someone else. We don't look at how many

congregants we have in comparison to the least amount

of someone else and think that we have more authority or more

power or more sway than them. They have the same authority and

the same power and the same sway in the name of Jesus Christ.

As someone in a larger congregation, we do not need to

measure ourselves by ourselves. That is a low bar.

That is a low standard. Our measure is the Lord Jesus

Christ. What did he say?

It's not. What would Jesus do?

It's what did Jesus do and what did Jesus say?

And we mirror and model our lives after the ministry of our

Lord Jesus Christ. Genesis to Malachi points to

Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Acts to Revelation point back to

Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. We get rooted and grounded and

steeped in the gospels of our Lord Jesus Christ.

And you'll never go wrong. You'll never be put to dismay.

You'll never be rejected, friends, when you stand and

before an almighty God, one day He will say, welcome, He will

see, He will say, well done, good and faithful servant.

We mirror and we model our ministries after our Lord Jesus

Christ. We only say what He gives us to

say and He has revealed to us what it is that we need to say.

He has given us the complete authority, Friends. 13 But we

will not boast of things without our measure, but according to

the measure of the rule which God has distributed to us, a

measure to reach even unto you. So that is the power that Paul

proclaims is the power of our Lord Jesus Christ.

It is not any power of himself and it is not the charisma of a

minister. It is not the amount of money

that a person possesses. It is not good looks.

It is not clothing, it is not your worldly abode.

It is not the looks that we need to be worried about.

We need to be able to judge rightly if a person is correctly

propagating the authority of the Word of God in its entirety,

nothing added and nothing subtracted.

That is the only power that we have, and we attach ourselves to

the truth and to the Way and to eternal life.

And His name is Christ. 14 For we stretch not ourselves beyond

our measure, as though we reach not unto you.

For we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of

Christ. It is the good news, friends.

It is the only good news. Turn off all the garbage news

channels, friends, and all the garbage news that we keep

getting fed. There is no good news but the

good news of the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 not

boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men's

laborers, but having hope when your faith is increased, that we

shall be enlarged by you according to our rule

abundantly. That's what you get when you

come to the Lord is abundance. And Paul understood by the

preaching of the good news, it would naturally cause more and

more and more to come into the fold.

And here we are 2000 years removed from this letter, and

look at the church today. Look at how it has grown to a

massive proportion. A powerhouse in the land,

friends. But don't forget that the birds

come and rest in the branches. There are many sects and there

are many different doctrines that have sprang up from the

true gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and they twist and

manipulate God's Word. And that is where you see the

Jehovah's Witnesses and the Mormons.

That is where you see all of these garbage sects come up.

And far be it from us to try to add a book onto the only

authority of the Bible. It is not the Bible plus

anything. 16 to preach the gospel in the regions beyond

you, and not to boast in another man's line of things made ready

to our hand. So he's saying that there are

all these usurpers who've come into the fold, and then they

start tearing down the teachings, the accurate

authority of God, and they start twisting it.

And it's no different than what Satan did in the garden whenever

he tried to deceive Eve and tell her that God was holding out on

her is no different. Friends, there are people who

come into the congregation and they're trying to win people

over to themselves and start a new religion and start a new

teaching. And I want you to know that is

demonic and satanic at its core. We preach from Genesis to

Revelation only and that is it. And in every single thing that

we do is measured by the revealed will of God, the

complete authority. There is no new revelation that

will not line up perfectly with the Word of God.

If there is a dream, a vision, it has to line up completely and

in line with the Word of God. But how would you know if you're

not in the Word of God? Friends, do not let somebody

else spoon feed you truth. Get in and munch, get in and

eat, get in and devour, Get in and feast on the Word of God.

It is the bread and it is the life.

It is His blood, friends, poured out over you every day.

The Word of God came alive. The Word of God became flesh,

Friends. 17 But he that glories, let him glory in the Lord,

himself as approved, but whom the Lord commends.

There are many who commend themselves.

There are many who went to seminary and they've got a

degree on the wall. They're not even believers,

friends. They're heretics.

They're apostate, but they sure commend themselves and they're

quick to tell you their credentials.

It's the Word of God that we need is the only authority.

It is the highest authority over all institutions.

Get rooted and grounded in the Word of God and you will see

that the war that the Lord turned the entire world right

side up with a group of unlearned men who were sold out
