- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up, everyone, and welcome to another episode of the
- 0:03Epstein Chronicles. Last Friday, which was June twenty sixth, Leon
- 0:09Black got up and walked out of his interview with Congress.
- 0:14That came after he was subpoenad in the middle of
- 0:17that interview by Congress. And why did they hit him
- 0:21with a subpoena. Well, he was refusing to answer questions
- 0:25about NDAs and if they had any relation to Jeffrey Epstein.
- 0:29And since it was a voluntary interview, he could get
- 0:32up and walk out at any time, and that's exactly
- 0:35what he did. But now he's going to have to
- 0:37come back and be compelled under oath to answer these questions,
- 0:42and if he doesn't, well, he's going to be held
- 0:44in contempt. So things have gotten a bit serious for
- 0:47Leon Black. Now not serious on the end of Epstein Justice,
- 0:52but as far as the cover up, as far as
- 0:55what's going on now, Oh yeah, he's exposed. And this
- 0:58is what I've been telling you for about a year. Now,
- 1:02focus on the cover up. Focus on the things that
- 1:05we can prove that we have tangible evidence of. And
- 1:08if we open those doors and we walk through them,
- 1:11we're gonna find pay dirt. People like Leon Black breaking news.
- 1:16Not exactly a squeaky clean guy. And the fact that
- 1:19he wouldn't answer those questions about NDAs and Jeffrey Epstein,
- 1:22well that tells me everything I need to know. So
- 1:26today we have an article from ABC News and the
- 1:29headline comer subpoena is Leon Black after his refusal to
- 1:32answer some Epstein questions from the panel. This article was
- 1:38authored by Lauren Peller, James Hill, Peter Charlembeau, and John Parkinson.
- 1:45House Oversight Committee James Comer issued two subpoenas to Leon
- 1:49Black after Comer said the private equity billionaire refused to
- 1:53answer some of the committee's questions about convicted sex offender
- 1:56Jeffrey Epstein during Black's closed door appearance before the panel
- 2:00on Friday. Oh what you thought he was going to
- 2:02tell the truth? Did we really think that Leon Black
- 2:05was gonna come clean? This guy has paid out more
- 2:08money than you could possibly imagine when it comes to
- 2:11Epstein related nonsense. But sure he had nothing to do
- 2:15with it. He had no exposure. Guys like Leon Black,
- 2:19they just hand out money. You should go to his
- 2:21house tomorrow and ask him for some money. Very generous guy,
- 2:26very altruistic. Black, who was appearing before the Committee is
- 2:29part of its ongoing probe into the government's investigation of Epstein,
- 2:34walked out of his transcribed interview. During questioning, Comer told
- 2:38reporters that the two subpoenas compelled Black to appear for
- 2:41a deposition on July sixteenth, as well as produced purported
- 2:45non disclosure agreements that he was questioned about. Look, if
- 2:49he had nothing to hide, he'd a pony that shit up.
- 2:53But you know that Leon Black is not going to
- 2:55go down without a fight. He's gonna have his legal
- 2:57team going crazy, and they're going to be looking for
- 2:59what loopholes they think they can find. And my guess
- 3:03is they'll find some. And when you're paying the kind
- 3:05of money that Leon Black's paying for his legal team,
- 3:08you have to expect that. But I would hope that
- 3:12the Committee is prepared to dig as deep as they can,
- 3:16and not only that, but go further. If it comes
- 3:19out that Leon Black is lied, or anybody is lied,
- 3:23they need to be referred to the Justice Department for
- 3:25a prosecution. And then if the Justice Department doesn't act, well,
- 3:30just another bit of evidence of the cover up. And
- 3:34I'm telling you right now, if anyone goes down for anything,
- 3:37it's going to be this cover up. During today's voluntary
- 3:40transcribed interview, mister Black stated he won't answer questions about NDAs.
- 3:45Answers about the terms and substance of these NDAs are
- 3:48critical to our investigation. Comer said, we owe it to
- 3:52the American people to provide transparency and insure accountability for survivors. Well,
- 3:58believe me when I tell you, mister, we're not counting
- 4:01on that from you. Now. This is a good move,
- 4:04and you should be doing this. But why weren't you
- 4:07showing the same kind of interest in Les Wexner? Why
- 4:10didn't any of you guys show up? Because I'm telling
- 4:13you right now, Les Wexner involved just as deeply, if
- 4:18not more deeply, than Leon Black. So it's not like
- 4:22Les Wexner is just some guy that's been targeted. Why
- 4:27did the GOP treat him differently? Why didn't anybody show
- 4:31up to ask him questions? The optics are terrible. NDAs
- 4:37are between him and other women. We want to know
- 4:40was Jeffrey Epstein involved in the NDAs? Was he involved
- 4:43in the writing, was he involved in awarding funds to
- 4:45the women for the NDAs. What was the reason for
- 4:49the NDAs. We don't know everything about the NDAs, so
- 4:53that's very important to our investigation, to the subpoenas that
- 4:56were issued. We expect to see him back here in
- 4:58a few weeks, Comer said, And I wonder if his
- 5:02tune's gonna change. Probably not. I bet you he's going
- 5:07to be even more ob toes, even more difficult, because
- 5:11now he knows he has something on the line. Previously,
- 5:13it was just a friendly conversation quote unquote, not Now
- 5:17now you're under oath. You couldn't handle things the right way.
- 5:21You couldn't do it on your own. Now you have
- 5:23to be compelled to tell the truth. Imagine being that
- 5:27big of a scumbag that you have to be compelled
- 5:30to tell the truth about Jeffrey Epstein and what Epstein
- 5:33was up to and what you were up to with him.
- 5:37And then imagine that this dude's father is part of
- 5:40the administration. You know, there was a point in time
- 5:43in this country where we had enough respect for ourselves
- 5:46and the nation where a guy like that would never
- 5:48have a job in the administration. But those days are
- 5:53long over. This is very important for our investigation. Comer said,
- 5:59we knew for a long time that there were NDAs
- 6:01out there by various people. Obviously, they're very hard to obtain,
- 6:04and with the subpoena, we expect to get those NDAs
- 6:07in hand. Look great, And as I've told you before,
- 6:12I'm willing to ride any one of these politicians and
- 6:15this committee until the wheels fall off. When I criticize them,
- 6:19it's not saying that they don't do anything that's worthwhile,
- 6:23but the overall tenor and the way that the committee
- 6:26handles itself. It's obviously not going as far as they
- 6:29need to go, but when they do something good, we'll
- 6:33ride that shit. And I think going deeper with Leon
- 6:36Black is certainly a good idea. I just wish it
- 6:40was this kind of colonoscopy for everybody, especially the people
- 6:44that were deeply involved, you know, the Wexner's, the Jess Staleys,
- 6:48the Glen Dubins, the Leon Blacks. Asked about Black's response
- 6:54during the interview, Comer said his response was that he
- 6:58wasn't allowed to discuss the term of the NDAs well.
- 7:02That's weird. Why not. Ranking committee member Representative Robert Garcia
- 7:08of California said he agreed with Comer's decision to issue
- 7:12the subpoenas. The NDAs are central to us understanding what
- 7:15actually happened. There are real accusations, and there are survivors
- 7:19who have accused mister Black of horrific things. Garcia toll reporters, Well,
- 7:24that's really the gist of it. Now. Of course Black
- 7:27will say he had nothing to do with the abuse,
- 7:31not one single thing to do with any kind of abuse,
- 7:34But that doesn't change the allegations. The allegations are what
- 7:37they are, and they've never been investigated fully. And that's
- 7:43the big problem, isn't it. You can't run around and
- 7:46say that this is a big hoax when there's never
- 7:48been a real investigation, and when there were investigations, they
- 7:54all pulled up short. Ask yourself why this is literally
- 7:58the only case that I can point out where that's happened.
- 8:02When the federal government gets a beat on you, they're
- 8:05coming in hard, they're giving you the diddy business. But
- 8:09for some reason, when it comes to Epstein and his friends,
- 8:13it's a hands off approach. Black's attorney, Susan Estrich, claimed
- 8:18to reporters that the decision to serve Black with the
- 8:20subpoena during the interview was a premeditated political decision and
- 8:25claim that Epstein had no involvement with a purported non
- 8:28disclosure agreements. Why not just answer? Why not just come clean?
- 8:32Everybody knows that Leon Black is a scumbag. Everybody knows
- 8:36he was cheating on his wife while she was sick.
- 8:39Everybody knows. So what else is he hiding? It can't
- 8:43be reputational, that's already in the gutter. So what is
- 8:47this boob hiding? And furthermore, why does he look like
- 8:50Rex Huwerman? Him and the Long Island serial killer looked
- 8:55like they could be related. They made a premeditated political
- 8:57decision to serve him with subpoenas after less than an
- 9:00hour of questioning, and before they even asked a single
- 9:03question about his legitimate payments to Epstein. She said this
- 9:07was nothing more than a planned political stunt. Mister Epstein
- 9:11had no involvement with any NDAs, whether they exist or not. Well,
- 9:15if that's the case, why are you being so evasive?
- 9:18Why not just answer the question under oath? Nope, had
- 9:21nothing to do with Epstein. Sorry, keep moving, unless, of course,
- 9:25they had something to do with Epstein, and my guess
- 9:28is they did. The latest in a series of rich
- 9:33and powerful people questioned about the relationship with Epstein as
- 9:37part of the Oversight's Padel probe. Black maintained a social
- 9:40relationship with Epstein since the mid nineties and eventually paid
- 9:44him more than one hundred and seventy million dollars for
- 9:47tax and estate planning advice. According to the Senate Finance Committee, like,
- 9:53I'm not going to beat that dead horse, but come on,
- 9:56that kind of money ponied up and you're getting advice,
- 10:00that's fucking Pablo Escobar kind of money. Bro one hundred
- 10:03and seventy million. Black is denied wrongdoing of knowledge ah
- 10:09of Epstein's crimes, though his financial payments to Epstein served
- 10:14as a lifeline to the convicted sex offender in the
- 10:17years after Epstein's two thousand and eight prison sentence for
- 10:20soliciting a minor for a prostitution. Representatives Sujas Submarannium Toll
- 10:26reporters after Black's appearance, this is the first time a
- 10:29witness during this probe has walked out in the middle
- 10:32of an interview. It's because we had very important questions
- 10:35about Leon Black's past with Jeffrey Epstein. He said, this
- 10:39is also the first time I heard someone gush poetically
- 10:43about how smart and how great Jeffrey Epstein was. Leon
- 10:47Black was a lot closer to Epstein than he wants
- 10:49you to know, and there were a lot better friends
- 10:52than he wants you to know. Same story with just Day,
- 10:55and it's been obvious for a very long time, but
- 10:59now the email confirm it, and there's no denying it anymore.
- 11:03There's no backtracking or trying to cover up the facts.
- 11:06They are what they are, and they don't look good
- 11:08for Leon Black. He was smug. Representative yoasimin and sorry
- 11:15seat of Black's appearance. He refused to answer questions, but
- 11:18at the same time was emphasizing how he was being
- 11:21transparent because this was voluntary, But when pressed on critical
- 11:25questions about his own sexual abuse and the allegations against
- 11:29him and non disclosure agreements, he absolutely refused to answer
- 11:33these questions. She said, well, to play devil's advocate. Maybe
- 11:37he just didn't want to screw with his case. That
- 11:39might have something to do with it, right, And I
- 11:42hate giving him any kind of defense, but we have
- 11:45to be real. Maybe he didn't want to expose any
- 11:49kind of legal strategy as far as his other cases.
- 11:52But he should have said that, no, this will give
- 11:55me exposure and I'm not going to talk about it
- 11:58because I have other cases going. That's not what he did. Though.
- 12:03In his appearance before the committee, Black said he was
- 12:05unaware of Epstein's demonic life and that the money he
- 12:08paid Epstein was for legitimate services and bonafide advice. According
- 12:13to a copy of his opening remarks reviewed by ABC News,
- 12:18Black and his prepared remarks during his closed door interview,
- 12:21cast him as the victim of ugly and vicious narratives
- 12:24around Epstein, saying he's been the subject of baseless allegations
- 12:28and conspiracy theories about Epstein. That extraordinary damage has been
- 12:32done to me and my family. Oh please, extraordinary damage, Huh?
- 12:37Has nothing to do with your own behavior, has nothing
- 12:40to do with the fact that you were cheating on
- 12:42your wife. Everybody else's fault. Don't talk about Jeffrey Epstein.
- 12:47You might embarrass me. I wish I had never met
- 12:51Jeffrey Epstein. I regret ever doing business with them, my
- 12:54association with them, The frivolous but destructive litigation, the endless
- 12:59rumor mill have created a toxic environment for my wife
- 13:02and family, which I deeply regret, the prepared remarks said.
- 13:06Addressing the massive amount of money he paid Epstein, Black
- 13:10in his remarks said those were legitimate payments and that
- 13:13he was never blackmailed by Epstein. Let me state unequivocally
- 13:17that I have never abused women. I have never been
- 13:20with an underage woman. I have never engaged in sex trafficking.
- 13:24I have never paid Abstein for access to women. I
- 13:27was never black mailed by Epstein. I was not involved
- 13:30with it. Had no knowledge of any of Epstein's and
- 13:33his conduct. His prepared remarks said. No, I had no idea.
- 13:37One of the smartest men in the world, but I
- 13:39had no clue. Okay, let me give you a couple
- 13:42hundred million to invest for me. According to Black, Epstein
- 13:47lived a jekyl in Hyde existence and that he at
- 13:49first only saw the positive side, including his unrivaled network
- 13:53of relationships with individuals in finance, academia, science and politics.
- 13:59Black in his remarks said his relationship with Epstein began
- 14:02as personal but grew over time to helping manage his
- 14:05family investment office. Yeah, he called your kids retarded, and
- 14:09you kept doing business with them. With hindsight, I now
- 14:13see that Epstein exaggerated and bellish, manipulated and outright lied
- 14:17prolifically and without concern for me or my family. And
- 14:20I now see that that his deceit was not limited
- 14:23to me, but also extended to numerous highly sophisticated individuals.
- 14:29Black's prepared remarks said, Oh, well, he got fooled, so
- 14:32it's no big deal that I did. You can't call
- 14:35yourself the smartest man in the room if you're a
- 14:37dumb fuck. Thanks for coming to my ted talk. While
- 14:41Black said that Epstein took credit for other people's ideas
- 14:44and made false claims about investments, Black also argued that
- 14:48Epstein was able to resolve a massive estate problem for
- 14:51him that would have destroyed enormous value. According to Black's remarks,
- 14:56he originally thought he was paying Epstein ninety five million
- 14:59in net fees, though that was actually one hundred and
- 15:01fifty eight million because Epstein lied about the tax deductibility
- 15:05of the payment. Well, that's convenient, Epstein lied. Believe me,
- 15:10you have no other choice. Epstein's dead. That's Black strategy.
- 15:14That's the whole strategy. Folks. Black also said in his
- 15:19prepared remarks that he was aware of Epstein's two thousand
- 15:21and eight conviction for soliciting a minor for prostitution, but
- 15:26that Epstein lied about the nature of the crime. Oh well,
- 15:29I'm just gonna go on the trust you system. Imagine
- 15:32somebody tells you they've been convicted of that kind of
- 15:34crime and you don't look any deeper into it. You
- 15:37don't have Google. Google doesn't work over at Apollo Global.
- 15:42Epstein told me that it was an isolated incident resulting
- 15:45from a fake ID five years after his conviction. I
- 15:48gave Epstein a second chance, as did many others. I
- 15:51wish I had not, he said, according to his prepared remarks.
- 15:55According to Black, he cut ties with Epstein in twenty
- 15:58eighteen after Epstein failed to repay most of a thirty
- 16:01million dollar loan. Black said he grew tired of his
- 16:04relentless pursuit of more and more money from me or
- 16:07professional services. Oh please. What he means is the heat
- 16:13was getting too hot and he had to back off.
- 16:17While Black, according to his remarks, said that he was
- 16:20glad to answer the committee's questions, he noted that he
- 16:23will not speak about the personal lives of adult women
- 16:26that he believed should not be connected to Epstein. This
- 16:29is where he's running into trouble, and this is where
- 16:31he's going to get in trouble. I'm here to voluntarily
- 16:34answer questions about the work that Epstein did for me
- 16:37and for the services for which I paid him. I'm
- 16:40not here to answer questions about my personal life, which
- 16:42would be hurtful to my wife, children, and family. And
- 16:45I will not speak about the personal lives of adult
- 16:48women who have not chosen and do not deserve to
- 16:50be connected by me or anyone else to Epstein. Black said,
- 16:54per his remarks, he had no problem sending those private
- 16:58investigators to that girl's house. Though, huh, the girl with
- 17:01mosaic down syndrome, No big deal there. Comer told reporters
- 17:06Friday's proceedings at Black's appearance could be a pretty significant interview.
- 17:10So of all the witnesses that have come thus far,
- 17:13this one has the potential to be the most groundbreaking
- 17:15deposition in my opinion. Comer said, does Comer not know
- 17:19the story? Have you not been following along the biggest
- 17:23groundbreaking interview? God, I dislike James Comer there's a lot
- 17:27of concerning things in the documents. There's a lot of
- 17:29statements from the survivors that are very concerning as well
- 17:32with respect to mister Black, Comer said. The chairman said
- 17:36the committee would ask Black hundreds and hundreds of questions
- 17:39about financial transactions, about bank violations, about email documents, pictures,
- 17:45and communication with survivors. Comer said the committee's investigation is
- 17:50on a timeline. This Congress will expire the end of
- 17:53the year, so we want to certainly get done as
- 17:56quickly as possible, said Comber, who added that we hope
- 17:59acting a turn, the General Blanche will sit for an interview. Nope, subpoena.
- 18:05Why are you giving him the benefit of the doubt,
- 18:06James Comer, Oh, that's right. You're not part of the
- 18:10team that's looking for justice. You're part of the cover up.
- 18:16I remind everyone the purpose of our investigation to get
- 18:19to the truth to the American people and determine how
- 18:21the government failed the survivors by not prosecuting Epstein. Comer said.
- 18:26Garcia told reporters prior to Black's appearance at Epstein would
- 18:29not have been able to commit the horrific crimes without
- 18:32the support of mister Black, Representative Sujas Submarinium said, we
- 18:37want him to answer the tough questions about what he
- 18:39knew about Jeffrey Epstein and whether he was involved with
- 18:42some of the crimes himself. Leon Black was one of
- 18:45Jeffrey Epstein's primary sources of income, flooding him with cash
- 18:50at the time when he was already a registered sex offender.
- 18:53Black has not yet offered a compelling explanation regarding the
- 18:57origination and execution of Epstein's extraorordinary compensation scheme for alleged
- 19:02tax services. Senator Ron Wyden, the ranking member of the
- 19:05Senate Finance Committee, wrote in a letter to the House
- 19:08Oversight Committee earlier this month. The Senate Finance Committee is
- 19:12leading its own investigation of Epstein's finances. Black has long
- 19:17been scrutinized over his relationship with a disgraced financier, describing
- 19:21it as a horrible mistake, and was forced out of
- 19:24his firm, Apollo Global Management, following an external investigation that
- 19:28reveal payments to Epstein totaling at least one hundred and
- 19:32fifty eight million. Knowing all that I have learned in
- 19:35the past two years about Epstein and his reprehensible and
- 19:39despicable conduct. I deeply regret having any involvement with him,
- 19:42Black said during a twenty twenty Apollo earnings call. With
- 19:46the benefit of hindsight, working with them was a horrible
- 19:49mistake on my part. I'm not seeking to excuse that decision,
- 19:53but I do believe it may be helpful to convey
- 19:55some relevant facts. While the investigation concluded that Black and
- 19:59other others were aware of Epstein's two thousand and eight conviction,
- 20:03or report summarizing its findings said that Black was not
- 20:06involved in any way with Epstein's criminal activities at any time,
- 20:10or aware of the scope and details of Epstein's sex trafficking.
- 20:13Black has never been charged with a crime. Well, okay,
- 20:18pack it up. Nothing to see here breaking news. You
- 20:21have to investigate somebody before you charge them. When Black
- 20:24first retained Epstein, he believed that Epstein had served his
- 20:27time for the originally charged defenses and believed that it
- 20:30was not inappropriate to give Epstein a second chance, as
- 20:34many other prominent figures in business, science, politics, and academia
- 20:38had done. The report said. The release of the Department
- 20:43Justice Epstein files earlier this year casts more scrutiny on Black,
- 20:47whose name appears in the files more than eight thousand times.
- 20:50Epstein at one point appeared to serve as a middleman
- 20:53to pay one hundred thousand to a woman with whom
- 20:56Black allegedly had an affair, according to emails included in
- 21:00the files, and routinely served as a fixer for issues
- 21:04involving his finances. Leon, as you were well aware, there's
- 21:08little I won't do for you, or at least try
- 21:10to do as a friend, and a great deal that
- 21:13I have already done, both known and some things that
- 21:15will need to remain unknown, Epstein wrote to Black in
- 21:18a twenty fourteen email. In another email in twenty seventeen,
- 21:22Epstein described his relationship with Black as saving you from yourself.
- 21:27In a statement to ABC News, Black's attorneys, Who's an Estrich,
- 21:30pointed to the external investigation conducted for Apollo that found
- 21:34Black had no awareness of the criminal activity that led
- 21:37to Epstein's arrest in twenty nineteen, and noted that Black
- 21:41was called for an independent investigation of his relationship with Epstein. Well,
- 21:46independent like the FBI. How about that kind of investigation.
- 21:51Let's have that one, no internal investigation? One done by
- 21:55the federal government. Widen of the Senate Finance Committee as
- 22:00called on the House over site members to scrutinize till
- 22:02one hundred and seventy million that Black paid Epstein between
- 22:05twenty twelve and twenty seventeen for purported tax in his
- 22:09state planning. According to Widen, those payments are sixty times
- 22:13more than what Epstein paid his other tax and his
- 22:16state professionals during the same timeframe. Like for real, Leon Black,
- 22:24What have you believe that he's that stupid? Huh okay?
- 22:27I guess Black is a well advised businessman with access
- 22:32to sophisticated attorneys. Yet it appears Epstein was able to
- 22:35shake him down for money that he wasn't legally owed.
- 22:39This suggests that Epstein may have extorted Black or performed
- 22:42other unseemly tasks on his behalf. Wyden wrote earlier this month.
- 22:47Attorneys for Black of pushback against Widen's accusations, accusing him
- 22:51of harassment and saying the billionaires cooperated voluntarily and without compulsion. No,
- 22:57he hasn't. Saying you're going to cooperate and doing it
- 23:00are two different things. We are aware of No other
- 23:04private citizen subjected to more written requests from you over
- 23:08the same period. Black's attorneys wrote in an April twenty
- 23:11twenty six letter to widen, your continued attempts to invade
- 23:15into matters pretending to mister Black's personal life, without the
- 23:19support of any legitimate legislative purpose, appear targeted to unfairly
- 23:23harassed mister Black in a manner that completely disregards the
- 23:27proper scope of Congress's investigative powers. Oh Black's the victim? Huh,
- 23:33Leon Black, mister victim. According to the twenty twenty one
- 23:39external report, Epstein was paid proportionally to the amount of
- 23:42money he saved Black, and that Epstein provided advice that
- 23:46conferred more than one billion and as much as two
- 23:48billion or more in value to Black. However, the report
- 23:51also acknowledged that Epstein's advice was often not useful and
- 23:55that he was generally a disruptive and caustic force. The
- 23:59externals reports that investigators found no evidence suggesting that Black
- 24:03ever compensated Epstein for any services other than Epstein's legitimate
- 24:07advice on trust and a state planning and other issues. Okay, cool,
- 24:13if that's the case, be forthcoming, open your books up,
- 24:16let's see it all. But instead he did the absolute opposite, right,
- 24:20So I think that Comer and the Committee did the
- 24:23right thing by hitting him with a subpoena to compel
- 24:25them to come back and tell the truth. And now
- 24:28that's scheduled for the middle of July, and you already
- 24:32know we're going to be here for all of it.
- 24:34And when they release the transcript, we'll get that added
- 24:37to the catalog. Until then, that's going to do it
- 24:40for this one. All the information that goes with this
- 24:43episode can be found in the description box.
