- 0:04Speaker 1: Ron Kratz and marathon Man. Marathon Man, we haven't talked
- 0:10Speaker 1: to you since the marathon.
- 0:12Speaker 2: I know, I forgot it's been that. It's been a while.
- 0:14Speaker 2: I know that was just it was almost a week ago.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Now I forgot. It's been to so many games and
- 0:19Speaker 2: things that have happened. But what a game, I mean, honestly,
- 0:22Speaker 2: what a game. Crazy game. I mean, every pitcher kept
- 0:25Speaker 2: just getting double plays at the greatest times I've ever seen,
- 0:28Speaker 2: and uh, just awesome to be a part of it.
- 0:32Speaker 2: And finally somebody got the hit. It was for Hey Polonka.
- 0:34Speaker 2: At one point, I just never thought that game was
- 0:35Speaker 2: gonna end, and we're sitting there, going what else can
- 0:38Speaker 2: happen in this game? And then eventually the right guy
- 0:41Speaker 2: came up in the right spot.
- 0:43Speaker 3: The Tigers still haven't scored, and if they continued to play,
- 0:46Speaker 3: they still would not have scored.
- 0:50Speaker 2: And by the way, bunt. Someone needs to learn how
- 0:52Speaker 2: to bunt. But other than that, I mean, I mean
- 0:55Speaker 2: they did actually the Tigers did bunt at the right time,
- 0:58Speaker 2: and they had second and third for Hobby By, who
- 1:00Speaker 2: had faced the guy four days in a row, and
- 1:02Speaker 2: he got absolutely blown up on a ground ball to
- 1:03Speaker 2: third and then they walked carry Carpenter and uh it
- 1:07Speaker 2: was Glaver. Glaver got out. But yeah, I mean they
- 1:09Speaker 2: did it. They did They had their chance, that was
- 1:11Speaker 2: their chance. They had first and second, no outs, Parker medals.
- 1:14Speaker 2: He's down a great bunch. And then it was Hobby's
- 1:16Speaker 2: turn and he didn't get it done. But I mean,
- 1:17Speaker 2: we've all been there, we understand.
- 1:19Speaker 4: But man, what a what a game. I mean, Seattle
- 1:23Speaker 4: way to go.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Uh and they carried them momentum to Toronto the first
- 1:26Speaker 2: two games. They struggled a little bit last night, but
- 1:28Speaker 2: I still like where they're at. I still like where
- 1:30Speaker 2: Seattle's at because they have their pitching kind of lined
- 1:33Speaker 2: up the way they wanted it, and we'll see, we'll see.
- 1:36Speaker 2: But yeah, what what a what a great game, and
- 1:38Speaker 2: one of the best playoff games I've ever seen, just
- 1:41Speaker 2: from everything happening, I mean, the strategy, the pitching, who's
- 1:45Speaker 2: gonna hitch and we steals?
- 1:47Speaker 4: What should we do here? What should we do there?
- 1:49Speaker 4: How's this guy going to get out of this?
- 1:50Speaker 5: Cham?
- 1:50Speaker 4: What a great game.
- 1:53Speaker 1: It was awesome, great job on the call. That was
- 1:55Speaker 1: a marathon.
- 1:57Speaker 4: Thank god our place, thank god Adam.
- 1:59Speaker 2: I mean just kept screaming, because every time we thought
- 2:01Speaker 2: we were getting a little bit tired, he would just
- 2:03Speaker 2: start screaming about something. It was Greaty, he was so
- 2:05Speaker 2: good in that game. You know, you know, Scott, you've
- 2:07Speaker 2: done play by play. You can't really script what you're
- 2:09Speaker 2: going to say because the game never really goes where
- 2:12Speaker 2: it's supposed to go. And so but for him at
- 2:15Speaker 2: the end to have the Polanco in the twenty four
- 2:17Speaker 2: years and the whole thing, the ninety five thing, which
- 2:20Speaker 2: was I think was on the same day, was pretty crazy.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, Adam's great, and he's an ad libber. I
- 2:27Speaker 1: am an ad lib play by play guy. There actually
- 2:29Speaker 1: are some that try to script their calls, and I
- 2:32Speaker 1: I think that's weird and difficult. It's one thing to
- 2:34Speaker 1: have an idea of what you want to make sure
- 2:36Speaker 1: you include. But Adam into breaks too, was bringing it
- 2:40Speaker 1: like if you felt as if it was getting slow
- 2:42Speaker 1: during the extra inning portions, at times where you're like, hey,
- 2:45Speaker 1: I'm looking for more action here, Adam would like rise
- 2:47Speaker 1: it right back up, like and we're going to a thirteenth.
- 2:50Speaker 4: A fourteenth by the way, humpy one.
- 2:52Speaker 2: I don't know if you guys know this, but Humpy
- 2:54Speaker 2: salmon had never won, and Humpy won in the second
- 2:57Speaker 2: salmon race of the day for the first time ever.
- 2:59Speaker 2: So Humpy, Humpy one, Humpy. We had two seventh inning
- 3:02Speaker 2: stretch and we had two salmon races and Humpy one,
- 3:05Speaker 2: which pushed the Mariners over the top to win that game.
- 3:07Speaker 2: I think that's what it was. It was because Humpy one.
- 3:11Speaker 1: That's been the big chatter out in Seattle. Now all
- 3:13Speaker 1: about Humpy and hey, if your name's Humpy, I think
- 3:15Speaker 1: you should win more often. Diggity.
- 3:18Speaker 6: Anyway, let's charge charging about and we're charging the mound
- 3:25Speaker 6: powered by MLB Rivals free to get the game.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Go check it out. Let's start with the Brewers and
- 3:32Speaker 1: the Dodgers and get your thoughts on this series. AJ
- 3:36Speaker 1: heading into a Game three in Los Angeles, a team
- 3:38Speaker 1: that has their pitching lined up and still really hasn't
- 3:41Speaker 1: gotten much from Shoho Tani, who's trying to switch things
- 3:44Speaker 1: up on the off day to get the bat going.
- 3:47Speaker 4: He hasn't done anything, has he. I mean he hasn't really.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Had one RBI knock in the last game.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Yeah, but nothing, I mean nothing. What we've come to
- 3:54Speaker 2: expect with the homers and all that. What do I
- 3:56Speaker 2: think about this series? I think that I picked the
- 3:58Speaker 2: Dodgers to go the World Series. They've been number one
- 4:01Speaker 2: of my power rankings the entire time, and I think
- 4:03Speaker 2: they're just continue to do what they do. They're Listen,
- 4:06Speaker 2: the regular season for the Dodgers is nothing at all
- 4:09Speaker 2: what it's about, and so it's all about the postseason.
- 4:12Speaker 2: So when they can go Snell eight innings, Yamamoto CG,
- 4:16Speaker 2: which I don't think we'd see a CG this postseason,
- 4:18Speaker 2: well we got one, so way to go. I mean
- 4:20Speaker 2: they have now, they have glass now right, and in
- 4:24Speaker 2: Game four they're going I'm assuming though, maybe go show hey,
- 4:27Speaker 2: I think I mean they's listed as a pitcher, but
- 4:29Speaker 2: I mean think about that. And then and the Brewers
- 4:31Speaker 2: have already, what had two bullpen games in three Like
- 4:35Speaker 2: That's what's crazy to me is that the Brewers, in
- 4:38Speaker 2: the best record in the National League, have already had
- 4:40Speaker 2: two are going to have their second bullpen game in.
- 4:45Speaker 4: Three games, and Ashley started both of them. I guess
- 4:48Speaker 4: it's the new opener thing. And then they'll bring in
- 4:49Speaker 4: whoever after it.
- 4:50Speaker 2: But I mean, the team at the best record in
- 4:53Speaker 2: baseball is supposed to have really good pitching, and Freddy
- 4:55Speaker 2: Peralta did okay, but I mean they got nothing else.
- 4:58Speaker 4: That's what's crazy.
- 4:59Speaker 2: And the Dodgers just exerting their dominance on him right now.
- 5:02Speaker 2: And I don't know what they can do to stop it,
- 5:04Speaker 2: because if if Freddy hits and Mookie hits, and then
- 5:07Speaker 2: the rest of the lineup hits, you can't stop this team.
- 5:10Speaker 4: They're cooked.
- 5:11Speaker 3: They're cooked if they can't if if they can't keep
- 5:14Speaker 3: these guys down, I mean, they haven't been hitting very well.
- 5:17Speaker 3: Mookie scored one run. I think this entire I think
- 5:22Speaker 3: he scored one run. Freddy got his first RBI the
- 5:24Speaker 3: other night when he hit a homer, and Showhy hasn't
- 5:27Speaker 3: done much. So maybe the Brewers do have enough pitching
- 5:30Speaker 3: to shut these guys down, or maybe it's just a
- 5:35Speaker 3: slow boil here where all of a sudden it's gonna
- 5:38Speaker 3: blow the lid off and they're gonna have another eleven
- 5:41Speaker 3: eleven hit game like they had in Game two. Like
- 5:45Speaker 3: for the Brewers, they did a great job during the
- 5:48Speaker 3: season of scoring runs. They got to figure out how
- 5:50Speaker 3: to score runs against Tyler Glass now sho hey Otani,
- 5:55Speaker 3: and then back to Blake Snell and Yamamoto like to
- 5:58Speaker 3: score some run off of them like the Phillies did.
- 6:01Speaker 3: The Phillies did a great job scoring some runs against him,
- 6:05Speaker 3: like one to three runs off the starters. The Brewers
- 6:08Speaker 3: are gonna need to score, in my opinion, probably like
- 6:11Speaker 3: four or five because, like a Day said, their bullpen
- 6:14Speaker 3: is exhausted. Now. If they want to win tonight, they'll
- 6:18Speaker 3: throw Quinn Priester, because that's what they do. When Quinn
- 6:20Speaker 3: Priester throws, they win. But I don't know if it's enough.
- 6:25Speaker 3: I just feel like this offense for the Dodgers is
- 6:27Speaker 3: gonna explode, and I feel like the Brewers offense has
- 6:31Speaker 3: to do too much against too good a starting pitching.
- 6:35Speaker 4: He could. They already threw Priester.
- 6:37Speaker 2: He threw four innings in Game one and they still lost.
- 6:40Speaker 2: They already tried that trick. They threw him already and
- 6:43Speaker 2: they lost. I mean, he went four innings and didn't
- 6:45Speaker 2: go up anything. But then Patrick came in, gave up
- 6:48Speaker 2: the homer Freddy, and then the Dodgers' bullpen obviously held on.
- 6:51Speaker 2: With the story of that game was Blake Snow and
- 6:52Speaker 2: then Yamamoto goes a nine inning spot. Did we even
- 6:55Speaker 2: think Y'aamota could go nine innings? I mean it was
- 6:58Speaker 2: just dominant. I mean the Brewers had no change in
- 7:00Speaker 2: Game two. So why do we think Tyler Glastan is
- 7:02Speaker 2: going to be any different at home? I guess and
- 7:05Speaker 2: probably in the shadows at three o'clock? Do we think
- 7:07Speaker 2: it's going to be any different? I mean, I mean
- 7:09Speaker 2: who comes? The bigger question for me is who comes
- 7:11Speaker 2: in for the Brewers after Ashby? Like, Okay, they're doing
- 7:14Speaker 2: this trick again with the bullpen game, and we're going
- 7:17Speaker 2: to start the opener because show hey and this and
- 7:19Speaker 2: that and that, and they haven't stopped tay Oscar. He's
- 7:22Speaker 2: been hot like he was last year. Key k has
- 7:24Speaker 2: been doing it again once he had the home run.
- 7:26Speaker 2: I mean, it's it's just a depth thing.
- 7:28Speaker 4: I'm sorry.
- 7:29Speaker 2: And if Bryce Terrang doesn't hit, which he hasn't done
- 7:31Speaker 2: this postseason, the Brewers have a hard time score.

- 8:37Speaker 1: I mean, wouldn't we think we see a little Kintana.
- 8:41Speaker 1: I would say, hopefully the Miz for a few innings.
- 8:43Speaker 1: If he's locating, yeah, Krats. I don't think Priester yet.
- 8:48Speaker 1: I mean that's what gets weird though, because Priester's coming in.
- 8:51Speaker 1: He's not going a full starter's workload, which is really
- 8:55Speaker 1: what he was doing for most of this stretch run
- 8:58Speaker 1: this season. So like then, and I mean, are you
- 9:01Speaker 1: giving them full regular rest? You can't really afford to
- 9:03Speaker 1: do that because you're using all of your arms. Just
- 9:06Speaker 1: gets really messy when you're bullpenning almost every day.
- 9:11Speaker 3: And if you go Kitana, if it's Kintana today, why
- 9:15Speaker 3: not king Tana start and then see where you're at?
- 9:17Speaker 3: Like why because they think they ashby matchups better with
- 9:22Speaker 3: Freddie Shohey and hopefully movie bets doesn't hurt you like
- 9:26Speaker 3: you're playing too much of a hope game. You're playing
- 9:29Speaker 3: you gotta play. In my opinion, they got to this
- 9:32Speaker 3: point as the best record in baseball. Whether they were
- 9:35Speaker 3: the best team or not can be discussed, but you
- 9:38Speaker 3: gotta get back to that. You got to get back
- 9:40Speaker 3: to that. And I think just oh man scared, like
- 9:44Speaker 3: did they do all these like opener and like piggyback tricks?
- 9:48Speaker 3: When they swept the Dodgers during the season, people will say, oh, well,
- 9:52Speaker 3: Dodgers weren't playing very well. I get it, but you
- 9:55Speaker 3: swept the Dodgers. You had a formula stick to it,
- 9:59Speaker 3: And I know it wasn't Aaron Ashby starting every single
- 10:01Speaker 3: one of those six games.
- 10:04Speaker 1: Yep, good call Hey. On the hitting side, we talked
- 10:09Speaker 1: about how the Dodgers aren't fully cranking with superstars yet.
- 10:12Speaker 1: So let's go back to show Hey for a moment.
- 10:14Speaker 1: He's two for twenty five since the Wildcard round with
- 10:17Speaker 1: twelve strikeouts. Aja. He does not like to take VP
- 10:20Speaker 1: on the field, but he's switching it up. What does
- 10:24Speaker 1: that do for a hitter anything? Just more of a
- 10:27Speaker 1: superstitious thing to try.
- 10:29Speaker 2: And it's a sifticious thing. And I was somebody that
- 10:31Speaker 2: loved to hit on the field because I like to
- 10:33Speaker 2: see the ballpath. And I wasn't doing all the workload
- 10:35Speaker 2: that show Hey does, but I love to hit on
- 10:37Speaker 2: the field. I thought it was a great thing because
- 10:38Speaker 2: I could see the ball. To me, the path of
- 10:41Speaker 2: the ball tells you how your swing is. Like if
- 10:43Speaker 2: I'm hitting backspin, then I know, okay, I'm in a
- 10:46Speaker 2: good spot. If I started the ball starts going sho
- 10:49Speaker 2: like with top spin and a lot of ground balls,
- 10:51Speaker 2: I was like, okay, I need to clean up some
- 10:53Speaker 2: stuff here, make a little adjustment. But yeah, I mean,
- 10:56Speaker 2: I just I'm amazed how many guys don't hit on
- 10:59Speaker 2: the field that often and they just hit in the cage.
- 11:01Speaker 4: And then you get out.
- 11:02Speaker 2: On the field and they're like, man, I can't understand
- 11:04Speaker 2: why I strike out one hundred and ninety five times. Well,
- 11:06Speaker 2: you're never outside. And the biggest thing for me going
- 11:09Speaker 2: outside was I wanted to climatize to where we were.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Sometimes it's hot, sometimes it's cold. You get out there,
- 11:13Speaker 2: your body gets a little used to it. I know
- 11:15Speaker 2: it's only thirty forty five minutes, but yeah, I think
- 11:18Speaker 2: this is a good thing. He's trying to switch it
- 11:19Speaker 2: up in the best part for him and his team.
- 11:21Speaker 2: They're two and oher with those numbers, so I mean
- 11:23Speaker 2: the rest of the lineup is just doing it for him.
- 11:26Speaker 3: I played with some dudes with elite power that wouldn't
- 11:29Speaker 3: hit on the field because they would see where the
- 11:32Speaker 3: ball was going and they were like, I want to
- 11:33Speaker 3: hit it further and show hey. Prime example, he hit
- 11:36Speaker 3: went out of the stadium yesterday onto the roof in
- 11:40Speaker 3: right right center field, and some guys they were like, dude,
- 11:44Speaker 3: if I hit outside, I'm cooked. I will I will,
- 11:49Speaker 3: I will just completely go out of my swing, which
- 11:51Speaker 3: I don't need to do extra and then in the
- 11:55Speaker 3: game that's the swing I grooved. So I've seen both
- 11:59Speaker 3: sides of it, and I was always hitting out on
- 12:02Speaker 3: the field. That was the only time I got on
- 12:03Speaker 3: the field was VP. That was my game.
- 12:05Speaker 4: I was locked in.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Back to the Brewers offense for a moment. AJ will
- 12:13Speaker 1: get to the Alcs later and how the Blue Jays
- 12:16Speaker 1: felt like they made a very good change in approach
- 12:20Speaker 1: for Game three. Is there anything the Brewers can do
- 12:24Speaker 1: differently from the first two games and attack plan wise
- 12:27Speaker 1: against Glass?
- 12:27Speaker 2: Now, well, you got to you gotta you can't get
- 12:30Speaker 2: to his breaking mall because nobody can hit his breaking mall, right,
- 12:33Speaker 2: so you got you kind of gotta do what the
- 12:34Speaker 2: Blue Jays did, which is attacked the fastball early. But
- 12:36Speaker 2: it's also one hundred, so it's a little bit different
- 12:38Speaker 2: than what you're normally seeing. But here's what they gotta do.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Controllers is hitting two twenty in the postseason. Christian Yelich
- 12:45Speaker 2: is hitting one ninety two. I think I saw Steady
- 12:47Speaker 2: has one RBI since like two thy like eighteen or
- 12:51Speaker 2: something with the Brewers in the postseason, Like, where's Christian
- 12:54Speaker 2: Yelich gone? He was so good during the season. What
- 12:57Speaker 2: I mean, Chario has been fine, but and Terrorist has disappeared,
- 13:01Speaker 2: Terrang has disappeared, Yelich has disappeared. Friedlick hasn't done a
- 13:05Speaker 2: whole lot of this postseason. Durban hasn't done a whole
- 13:07Speaker 2: lot of this postseason. Joey Ortiz is the same Joy Orties.
- 13:10Speaker 2: He was a great defense, not a lot offensively. But
- 13:12Speaker 2: there's not a lot of options to turn to if
- 13:14Speaker 2: you're the Berbers. That's the problem. You gotta maybe bunt,
- 13:17Speaker 2: you gotta maybe try and see. Obviously with glass on
- 13:19Speaker 2: the mouth, if they get their guys on, they got
- 13:21Speaker 2: to run and put pressure on the Dodgers.
- 13:23Speaker 4: But I don't know where they turn.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Because they they don't hit a ton of home runs
- 13:26Speaker 2: as it is, so they can't help. Man. Hopefully we
- 13:29Speaker 2: get a guy on them, we can pop one, kind
- 13:31Speaker 2: of like what the Blue Jays did. They just don't
- 13:33Speaker 2: have that in their makeup. I mean, they're more of
- 13:35Speaker 2: a constant pressure offense. They're not a quick strike usually.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Now they hit all runs, yes, but against really good pitching,
- 13:41Speaker 2: it's really hard to do.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Mhm. You got a one liner here, Kratz.
- 13:47Speaker 3: John Carlo Stanton said he used to wait for glass
- 13:50Speaker 3: Naw's pitch to come at his eyes and then he'd
- 13:53Speaker 3: swing because that was the curveball. And he g So
- 13:56Speaker 3: it's a thought process. See it up above your eyes
- 14:00Speaker 3: and then you're like, I'm going to swing, and he goes,
- 14:03Speaker 3: that was the strike curveball.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Okay, well, you bring up a guy that is kind
- 14:09Speaker 1: of a create a player in a video game in
- 14:12Speaker 1: terms of what he would look like. So let's finish
- 14:14Speaker 1: with this on charge of the mound. Shout out to

- 15:32Speaker 1: boxing approach from the Blue Jays in Game three?
- 15:36Speaker 8: I just thought it was interesting that before the game,
- 15:39Speaker 8: John Steiner, the manager, talked about throwing uppercuts, and then
- 15:42Speaker 8: after the game, when I talked to the Blue Jays
- 15:43Speaker 8: hitting coach David Popkins, he mentioned the same kind of
- 15:46Speaker 8: thing that when you're in the ring and kind of paralyzed,
- 15:50Speaker 8: you've got to start throwing haymakers. And if you watch
- 15:54Speaker 8: the game, those were haymakers. Five home runs, eighteen hits,
- 15:57Speaker 8: thirteen runs. Huge win for the Blue Jays obviously, and
- 16:01Speaker 8: now we go to Game four, which sets up really
- 16:04Speaker 8: interestingly because of course, Luis Castillo is a tremendous picture
- 16:08Speaker 8: has been for quite a long time, and here comes
- 16:11Speaker 8: Max Schurzer back to October. Hasn't had the greatest of years,
- 16:14Speaker 8: of course, but he's physically fine now and it's going
- 16:17Speaker 8: to be really fascinating to see how he performs.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Well, that's my question, Ken, what do we expect to
- 16:23Speaker 2: see out of Shreser? Castillo has been brilliant in this postseason?
- 16:27Speaker 2: I mean, and every time he's gotten the ball, even
- 16:29Speaker 2: in that fifteen and inning marathon we did where you
- 16:31Speaker 2: were you were sleeping in your Jammi's right, I mean,
- 16:33Speaker 2: he was amazing. So what are we expecting out of
- 16:36Speaker 2: Max Schurz? I expect Castillo to be good again. What
- 16:38Speaker 2: can we expect from Shursy?
- 16:40Speaker 8: Well, Jay, first of all, hearts and flowers to you
- 16:42Speaker 8: for having to work extra innings.
- 16:43Speaker 5: I know it was so difficult for you, but you
- 16:45Speaker 5: did a great job.
- 16:46Speaker 8: Now, as for Shureser, I don't know what to expect.
- 16:50Speaker 8: I don't know that anyone knows what to expect. Can
- 16:52Speaker 8: he go six innings? It would seem improbable, right, But
- 16:56Speaker 8: if his velocity's up, if he's got the command of
- 16:58Speaker 8: his breaking stuff, if he can compete like Max Scherzer
- 17:01Speaker 8: has competed over the years. Then can he give the
- 17:04Speaker 8: Jays a respectable start at the very least? Yes, I
- 17:07Speaker 8: would think the answer to that is yes. But it's
- 17:10Speaker 8: a mystery, and that's one of the more intriguing things
- 17:13Speaker 8: about this game tonight. We don't know exactly what mac
- 17:17Speaker 8: shus is going to be.
- 17:18Speaker 5: Now.
- 17:18Speaker 8: He did throw a ninety five pitch simulated game, I
- 17:21Speaker 8: believe it was about a week ago, and that went well.
- 17:24Speaker 8: He was up and down five times and seemingly everything
- 17:28Speaker 8: was really good. But this is a game situation. It's
- 17:32Speaker 8: an ALCS game. Who knows what's going to happen.
- 17:38Speaker 1: This is for everyone listening right now. What are you
- 17:41Speaker 1: wearing right now? And why isn't it me on Deese Kratz.
- 17:45Speaker 1: It is time for everyone to upgrade and get that
- 17:48Speaker 1: super Soft micro Modal glory so good that you don't
- 17:53Speaker 1: want to take it off.
- 17:55Speaker 3: The reason I'm stone facing you is because that's how
- 17:58Speaker 3: soft they are. It's like, I feel, I don't even
- 18:01Speaker 3: understand what kind of material it is. It's got to
- 18:04Speaker 3: be something space age.
- 18:06Speaker 4: For your butt.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Signature super Soft micro Modal fabric, breathable, stretchy, unbelievably cozy
- 18:15Speaker 1: and now. You can even get Glow in the Dark
- 18:17Speaker 1: part of the Halloween line. Right now. As a listener
- 18:20Speaker 1: of FT, you can get Cozy and Spooky for less
- 18:22Speaker 1: with deals up to fifty percent off at meundies dot com.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Slash foul enter promo code foul. That's it, meundies dot
- 18:29Speaker 1: com slash foul promo code foul for up to fifty
- 18:34Speaker 1: percent off me Undie's Comfort that's made for fall.
- 18:39Speaker 3: Because we don't know what the players are gonna do,
- 18:41Speaker 3: did you have a chance to talk to John Schneider,
- 18:43Speaker 3: Because ultimately, Max Schurzer could probably be throwing a no
- 18:47Speaker 3: hitter and some managers will be like, all right, that's it.
- 18:51Speaker 3: I got a fully rested bullpen from last night. I'm
- 18:53Speaker 3: going to him.
- 18:54Speaker 4: So did he give you any kind of hint Schneider, Well.
- 18:57Speaker 8: We haven't talked to him yet about this particular games,
- 19:00Speaker 8: one game at a time, Eric, as you know, but I
- 19:02Speaker 8: would imagine what Schnyder is going to say is, hey,
- 19:05Speaker 8: we'll ride them as long as we can ride them,
- 19:07Speaker 8: and we'll see how the game goes, read and react
- 19:10Speaker 8: and proceed along those lines. I don't know what else
- 19:13Speaker 8: they can do. I don't know that you can say
- 19:15Speaker 8: we need five from Max Scherz, or we expect four
- 19:18Speaker 8: from Max Suers or no. This is the playoffs and
- 19:22Speaker 8: what happens in the game dictates all the decisions that come.
- 19:27Speaker 2: Well, we're talking chures or what do we think the
- 19:29Speaker 2: leash is on Castillo? Because we've seen Dan Wilson have
- 19:32Speaker 2: a short lease even when pitchers are doing really well.
- 19:35Speaker 2: George Kirby and some of the other guys, Logan Gilbert
- 19:38Speaker 2: because he has a fully functioning bullpen tonight. He used
- 19:40Speaker 2: all his low leverage guys last night. He punted in
- 19:42Speaker 2: the game. We get it and right. So now he
- 19:45Speaker 2: has Castillo on full rest, and he's got all his
- 19:47Speaker 2: guys Bizardo, Brash, Munos, Spire, He's got them all lined up.
- 19:53Speaker 2: So can we expect also a short lease on Castillo
- 19:55Speaker 2: so he Dan Wilson can run to these guys.
- 19:58Speaker 8: Certainly those guys are rested a and they stayed away
- 20:01Speaker 8: from all of them last night as you mentioned, and
- 20:04Speaker 8: most of them in game two as well. Munyo's Brash
- 20:07Speaker 8: inspired Game one, so they're in great shape. Rizzardo after
- 20:11Speaker 8: a thirty pitch outing in game two, should be fine
- 20:13Speaker 8: as well. He can again, manage according to the game
- 20:17Speaker 8: situation and if he senses Louis Castillo, say in the
- 20:20Speaker 8: fifth or sixth inning is not quite what he was
- 20:23Speaker 8: in the earlier innings. Assuming he's pitching, well, yeah, you
- 20:26Speaker 8: go to right to the bullpen? Do you do it
- 20:28Speaker 8: in the fourth if he's pitching, Well, no, I don't
- 20:30Speaker 8: believe you do. Louis Castillo is who he is for
- 20:33Speaker 8: a reason. But they have those weapons available to them tonight.
- 20:37Speaker 8: They're in a great spot as far as where they're
- 20:39Speaker 8: pitching is concerned.
- 20:41Speaker 3: What did you see from Shane Bieber field level? After
- 20:44Speaker 3: he gave up that home run and was down and out,
- 20:47Speaker 3: You're like, we're talking about the same thing. How long
- 20:49Speaker 3: can they actually go with Shane Bieber? His slider swing
- 20:53Speaker 3: and miss was I think the best percentage that he
- 20:56Speaker 3: had on the season so far. Did you see a
- 20:59Speaker 3: change after that first that first home run by Julio.
- 21:03Speaker 5: Yes, I certainly did.
- 21:04Speaker 8: And that first inning to me, it looked like he
- 21:08Speaker 8: didn't have much and his stuff was down and it
- 21:11Speaker 8: was kind of like in the Division Series against the Yankees.
- 21:14Speaker 5: When he was sort of spraying the ball and just didn't.
- 21:17Speaker 8: Have great command, great feel for what he was doing,
- 21:19Speaker 8: and suddenly it appeared, and this is how it looked.
- 21:22Speaker 8: I'm sure he would maybe tell you differently, like the
- 21:25Speaker 8: light bulb went on, like all of a sudden boom,
- 21:27Speaker 8: he had it.
- 21:27Speaker 5: Now.
- 21:27Speaker 8: What was interesting is that after the game it came
- 21:31Speaker 8: out that after he allowed the home run to double
- 21:34Speaker 8: to Polanco, he went in the dugout at the end
- 21:38Speaker 8: of that inning and told his teammates, hey, guys, pick
- 21:40Speaker 8: me up.
- 21:40Speaker 5: My stuff is good.
- 21:42Speaker 8: So he obviously sends something. He obviously felt pretty good
- 21:45Speaker 8: about what was going on. But when you're watching the game,
- 21:48Speaker 8: you're wondering.
- 21:49Speaker 5: Exactly what you said. Is this going to be a sweep?
- 21:52Speaker 5: Is he going to be out right away?
- 21:54Speaker 8: How is this all going to play out?
- 21:57Speaker 4: Hey?
- 21:57Speaker 2: Ken, By the way, I know you're in that fancy
- 21:59Speaker 2: hookdell that we couldn't get in. We're in Seattle, so
- 22:01Speaker 2: you know the blinds are kind of blinding me. So
- 22:03Speaker 2: come on, yeah, you know we were we were we
- 22:08Speaker 2: were in the Holiday and Express.
- 22:09Speaker 4: Ken, Okay, you guys are understood. I understand how it works.
- 22:14Speaker 4: It's fine.
- 22:15Speaker 2: Now, you guys have private jets. We have other jets. Okay,
- 22:21Speaker 2: I'm trying. I'm trying. You're not listening though, But what
- 22:25Speaker 2: about Lad? I mean, Vlad? Is Vlad just the engine
- 22:29Speaker 2: for the Blue Jays that makes him go. I mean,
- 22:31Speaker 2: every time he gets a hit, it's almost like I
- 22:33Speaker 2: know Jimenez got it started, but it's like when blad
- 22:36Speaker 2: Lad comes up in those moments and he gets those hits,
- 22:39Speaker 2: the emotion and everything just changes for the Blue Jays.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Does he have to just carry the freight for them
- 22:45Speaker 2: every single night?
- 22:47Speaker 5: I don't know that I would go that far, Aj,
- 22:49Speaker 5: but you're right.
- 22:50Speaker 8: He is their engine. He is their guy, and he
- 22:54Speaker 8: brings them energy. Even last night when it appeared he
- 22:57Speaker 8: might get the cycle on the final double, dugout was alive,
- 23:01Speaker 8: They're all signaling no, don't go for it. And certainly
- 23:05Speaker 8: he is the center of that team. And the contract
- 23:08Speaker 8: has made him even more the center of that team.
- 23:09Speaker 8: It gave him the knowledge that he would be there
- 23:12Speaker 8: and the players the knowledge that he would be there.
- 23:14Speaker 8: But if you look at last night's game, the first
- 23:17Speaker 8: big blow was him and Az his two run homer
- 23:19Speaker 8: that tied the game, and they had some other big
- 23:22Speaker 8: hits in that inning, the var show two run double.
- 23:24Speaker 5: So he's not alone here.
- 23:26Speaker 8: And they've gotten a lot of contributions from a lot
- 23:29Speaker 8: of different sources. We've talked about this quite a bit
- 23:31Speaker 8: this season, and from that perspective, it's not simply the
- 23:36Speaker 8: lad Show. But if you're asking me how important he is,
- 23:40Speaker 8: how meaningful what he does is to that team, there's
- 23:43Speaker 8: no question. And what's interesting also is even the first
- 23:47Speaker 8: two games, okay, he goes oh for six, oh for seven,
- 23:50Speaker 8: his last six outs were on the ground, and you wonder, okay,
- 23:54Speaker 8: is he slowing down finally?
- 23:55Speaker 5: And then last night he went nuts again.
- 23:57Speaker 8: So he clearly is a guy we've seen this now
- 24:00Speaker 8: who rises to the moment, didn't always earlier in his
- 24:03Speaker 8: career in the postseason in a small sample, and it's
- 24:06Speaker 8: kind of like seeing a superstar fully flowered, now fully mature,
- 24:12Speaker 8: and it's cool. It's really cool to see this happening.
- 24:14Speaker 5: And he's an.
- 24:16Speaker 8: Energy player, he's a guy who is underrated in some
- 24:19Speaker 8: of the other aspects of the game, and frankly, he's
- 24:21Speaker 8: just been a joy to watch this postseason.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Ken opinion question, But I feel like it's somewhat of
- 24:28Speaker 1: a layup. Is the contract warranted? I know it's incredibly early,
- 24:33Speaker 1: and things can happen. But this is what front offices
- 24:36Speaker 1: look for. Franchise player you can build around, you can
- 24:39Speaker 1: profit off of, you know, business wise, successful player, clutch player.
- 24:44Speaker 1: We're talking about him being the key cog in the
- 24:46Speaker 1: offense and the age factor, which is the biggest part.
- 24:48Speaker 1: He's still a baby in our sport.
- 24:52Speaker 8: Actually, Scott, you make a good point here, even by
- 24:55Speaker 8: asking the question. And when front offices and executives look
- 24:59Speaker 8: at contracts like this, they will say, well, no, he's
- 25:02Speaker 8: not worth that because of his performance on the field,
- 25:05Speaker 8: his war and all that. Some executives will say that,
- 25:08Speaker 8: and that might be valid. That five hundred million for
- 25:12Speaker 8: fourteen years from lad Guerrero might prove to be a
- 25:14Speaker 8: big mistake. But there are other things that we don't
- 25:18Speaker 8: measure that go into this kind of thing, and you
- 25:21Speaker 8: just mentioned it. He's box office. He is extremely popular
- 25:25Speaker 8: in Toronto, in Canada. He is a guy who is
- 25:29Speaker 8: someone you want to build your franchise around. And what
- 25:32Speaker 8: he's doing in this postseason that doesn't necessarily go into
- 25:35Speaker 8: the financial calculation when you're looking at war and all that.
- 25:38Speaker 8: But my gosh, it's incredibly meaningful. So it's hard for
- 25:44Speaker 8: me to say, right now that it's worth it. But
- 25:46Speaker 8: as we've seen over the years, baseball contracts over time
- 25:50Speaker 8: look better and better in certain respects in terms of
- 25:54Speaker 8: other people passing them. People will get more money than
- 25:57Speaker 8: Vlad Guerrero. So we'll have to see how it all
- 25:59Speaker 8: plays out. I remember the time with the Tattoos contract
- 26:02Speaker 8: in San Diego.
- 26:03Speaker 5: I thought that's a lot.
- 26:05Speaker 8: But even though he hasn't had the most consistent of
- 26:08Speaker 8: goes here, it looks pretty reasonable now in many respects.
- 26:12Speaker 8: So I don't know that we can pass judgment on it,
- 26:15Speaker 8: but I think what we can say, Scott, to your
- 26:18Speaker 8: point is there's more to it than batting average, ops,
- 26:23Speaker 8: defensive metrics. No, it goes beyond that with a franchise
- 26:27Speaker 8: type player because of the value he creates intangibly in
- 26:31Speaker 8: other ways.
- 26:33Speaker 2: Ken, I know you're in Seattle, but I have I
- 26:35Speaker 2: have two quick questions for you. One is the biggest
- 26:37Speaker 2: lie of all time that it's always cloudy and rainy
- 26:39Speaker 2: in Seattle, because I've been there a lot and it's
- 26:41Speaker 2: always Sonny there.
- 26:42Speaker 4: Right, It's Sonny on.
- 26:43Speaker 2: Your nose, right, I know, clearly, But to keep people
- 26:47Speaker 2: out of Seattle is that one of the things that
- 26:49Speaker 2: they tell, oh, cloudy, it's always every time I've been there,
- 26:52Speaker 2: not every time, but a lot of times it's sonny,
- 26:54Speaker 2: and it's beautiful there.
- 26:55Speaker 4: So I think they just tell people that to keep
- 26:56Speaker 4: them away.
- 26:57Speaker 8: I don't know, AJ, but I will say this, These
- 27:00Speaker 8: two cities that are in the Alcs are two of
- 27:02Speaker 8: the more beautiful cities in North America, and I love.
- 27:05Speaker 5: Visiting them both.
- 27:06Speaker 8: It's been too long in both cases, and the cities
- 27:10Speaker 8: are just spectacular, and it is just yesterday.
- 27:15Speaker 4: Are you gonna throw? Are you gonna throw a fish
- 27:18Speaker 4: in the market a J.
- 27:19Speaker 5: I'm working, brother, Oh come on, you don't get outside?
- 27:23Speaker 4: And why it's like two blocks from where you're staying.
- 27:24Speaker 4: You can walk down the hill and you can get
- 27:27Speaker 4: right there.
- 27:27Speaker 2: Just go up to the guy and say I want
- 27:29Speaker 2: to buy a salmon, but only if I can throw,
- 27:31Speaker 2: and you'll go, oh, salmon will do his whole spiel
- 27:34Speaker 2: and you can pick it up and then you'll probably
- 27:35Speaker 2: clank it against the other fish.
- 27:36Speaker 4: But it's okay, a J.
- 27:38Speaker 5: I don't think I'll be doing that, just saying.
- 27:40Speaker 1: Joe Davis and John Smoltz might they were carving in Turkey.
- 27:43Speaker 1: I like that. That's more their style. Ken's gonna report
- 27:47Speaker 1: on the field. Ken, great stuff. So far, it's been
- 27:50Speaker 1: a really fun broadcast and we'll talk to you soon.
- 27:53Speaker 1: Thanks guys. That's Ken Rosenthal Inside Scoop also can on
- 27:58Speaker 1: Fair Territory twice a week. Fresh episode came out yesterday,
- 28:02Speaker 1: if you want to give that a listen. There were
- 28:03Speaker 1: plenty of questions about some of the things you and
- 28:05Speaker 1: I'm talking about. People in the chat were asking about
- 28:08Speaker 1: like managers and gms, the ratio of how many openings
- 28:11Speaker 1: there are, stuff like that, So I encouraged you to
- 28:13Speaker 1: give it a listen. That's it. This week's Arena Club
- 28:18Speaker 1: Slab pack pull. We opened a ruby. We went big.
- 28:22Speaker 1: We're doing hundred and fifty dollars pack. That was you
- 28:24Speaker 1: know what the nerves got me.
- 28:26Speaker 9: I think it was so exciting because the motion and
- 28:28Speaker 9: waits about four or five seconds for the card to
- 28:30Speaker 9: come up. Card that I got was over three hundred
- 28:33Speaker 9: dollars a prospect from the Mariners and for me, I
- 28:38Speaker 9: love the card. I thought it was great. Guess what
- 28:41Speaker 9: I sold it back? Yeah, and I got a little
- 28:43Speaker 9: more money and now I can go buy another one.
- 28:44Speaker 9: You have to wait a couple of minutes afterwards. And
- 28:47Speaker 9: this is the excitement, the whole thing. Put your money
- 28:49Speaker 9: where your mouth is and have fun with Arena Club.
- 28:51Speaker 1: You can see that big smile on todd Father's face.
- 28:54Speaker 1: Lazarero Montes, who's supposed to be good. He's Baseball America
- 28:57Speaker 1: Top three, he's in the Mariners organization. But Todd Father
- 29:01Speaker 1: sometimes thinks prospects or suspects going back to the well
- 29:04Speaker 1: and we'll see what he gets next time. Use the
- 29:07Speaker 1: code foul foul at Arena club dot com slash foul
- 29:10Speaker 1: if you want to get in on the first slap
- 29:12Speaker 1: pack experience and get twenty percent off or twenty percent
- 29:15Speaker 1: off your first card purchase. Hey, we're back for a
- 29:17Speaker 1: couple of minutes here and then we'll do better than
- 29:19Speaker 1: box scores on the ALCS. This one is an AJA special.
- 29:23Speaker 1: The Pope loves you so much AJ that he bit
- 29:26Speaker 1: back at a Cubs fan.
- 29:39Speaker 2: And Cubs fans were mad that the Brewers trolled him
- 29:42Speaker 2: with the l flag, which I loved, by the way.
- 29:45Speaker 2: I mean, to the victor goes as spoils to the
- 29:47Speaker 2: losers goes to crying, and you know what, there's a
- 29:50Speaker 2: lot of crying. And now the guy at the top
- 29:52Speaker 2: of the Catholic Church threw it right in their face.
- 29:54Speaker 2: And I love the fact that fans are now making
- 29:56Speaker 2: the hand perdido flag. Send me one, people, because I
- 30:00Speaker 2: will wave it proudly when they lose.
- 30:05Speaker 3: It's I mean, they got him like that guy just
- 30:08Speaker 3: was like, m he's gonna go cry in his cub's hat.
- 30:14Speaker 6: It's like, I flew all the way to the Vatican
- 30:16Speaker 6: to see the Pope.
- 30:18Speaker 1: He shaded me there it is. I'm here though, It's
- 30:25Speaker 1: gonna be on the front lawn.
- 30:28Speaker 4: Oh every time, because I got neighbors.
- 30:30Speaker 2: I got neighbors that fly the W flag when I'm
- 30:32Speaker 2: driving by, and there are times I just want to, like, go,
- 30:34Speaker 2: let that hang on fire.
- 30:36Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I got a couple of them in your neighborhood.
- 30:40Speaker 4: Mm hmmm.
- 30:42Speaker 3: I thought all Chicago people vacationed or moved down to Arizona.
- 30:46Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 30:46Speaker 4: They must live here.
- 30:47Speaker 2: There's a couple of people that fly him, and there
- 30:49Speaker 2: are times where I just want I want to go
- 30:50Speaker 2: up to him. I don't know them and just say, hey,
- 30:52Speaker 2: can you guys fly the L flag when they lose
- 30:54Speaker 2: because you're here so excited when they win.
- 30:56Speaker 4: Why don't you be so excited when they lose?
- 30:59Speaker 3: My favorite, my favorite troll that the Brewers social media
- 31:02Speaker 3: did to the Cubs social media was the one year
- 31:04Speaker 3: the Brewers finished the season first in the NL Centro
- 31:08Speaker 3: and they said, are you going to keep those flags
- 31:10Speaker 3: up all season? Asking for a friend because they always
- 31:13Speaker 3: have the standings and it's so you have to keep
- 31:17Speaker 3: like the Brewers are above the Cubs. How long do
- 31:20Speaker 3: they keep those flags up?
- 31:21Speaker 1: I think guess buck got to than box scores. Let's
- 31:35Speaker 1: hit the Alcs. And if you regularly follow this show,
- 31:38Speaker 1: you would hear aj Perzinski often alluding to the fact
- 31:41Speaker 1: that it is very possible to have an offensive explosion
- 31:45Speaker 1: in Seattle. Example, a game three of the Alcs sixteen
- 31:49Speaker 1: total runs, eight home runs ties a postseason record for
- 31:53Speaker 1: one single game. Toronto alone had eighteen hits and five homers.
- 31:57Speaker 1: So I guess you can hit in Seattle at times?
- 32:00Speaker 1: Did anything look different to you besides the ball clearly
- 32:03Speaker 1: carrying quite nicely?
- 32:05Speaker 4: Well, they were going APO. That was nice. I mean
- 32:07Speaker 4: Kirk's ball was smack. I mean he hit that. I
- 32:09Speaker 4: was like he started trotting right away.
- 32:11Speaker 2: I was like, dang, minded me back in the day
- 32:12Speaker 2: when like Brett Boone would hit it to right and
- 32:14Speaker 2: just flip his bath. I'm telling you, man, when I listen,
- 32:18Speaker 2: when it was safe, it was safe going now. T
- 32:20Speaker 2: Mobile was first built, we used to love going in
- 32:22Speaker 2: there to hit. The only thing we hoped for was
- 32:24Speaker 2: a day game. The roof was closed because or it
- 32:27Speaker 2: was cloudy. If it was open because if it was sunny,
- 32:30Speaker 2: the backdrop was a little bit bright, and we'd always
- 32:33Speaker 2: get Felix Hernandez. On the day games, we're like, oh man,
- 32:36Speaker 2: can we at least get a little cloudiness. But other
- 32:38Speaker 2: than that, I always loved hitting in Seattle, maybe because
- 32:41Speaker 2: I hit my first big league homer in Seattle, and
- 32:43Speaker 2: I have a lot of good memories Phil Humber's perfect
- 32:45Speaker 2: game and some other things, but I always really liked
- 32:48Speaker 2: ititting there, And they used to have to hit it
- 32:49Speaker 2: here cafe, and we used to take turns just teeing
- 32:51Speaker 2: off on trying to hit the bulls eye up there.
- 32:53Speaker 2: I mean, it wasn't like the ball didn't carry there.
- 32:55Speaker 2: I don't know what's changed. I guess the human are changed.
- 33:00Speaker 2: I guess historically lefties hit better for power there. Rovana
- 33:05Speaker 2: has said that years ago. He's like, man, you gotta
- 33:08Speaker 2: be you gotta be big boy pop to hit to
- 33:10Speaker 2: hit him out right handed. But to me, it looked
- 33:12Speaker 2: last night like it just it just looked like everything
- 33:16Speaker 2: was gonna everything was gonna go out.
- 33:18Speaker 3: You put the ball in the air. Normally fly ball pitchers,
- 33:22Speaker 3: that's where you want to go. Last night, not so much,
- 33:25Speaker 3: because I get it. The one was a wall scraper.
- 33:28Speaker 3: Now I'm forgetting who was one of the late ones
- 33:30Speaker 3: by the Mariners, but it was. It was a wall scraper.
- 33:36Speaker 3: It was almost robbed, but man, like every other one
- 33:39Speaker 3: was deep sauce.
- 33:42Speaker 1: Cow just over the Yeah, Lucas leaped and they showed
- 33:48Speaker 1: the replay. It was somewhat close. That was the eighth
- 33:50Speaker 1: where you had the Randy and Cow back to back dingers.
- 33:53Speaker 1: And they're hoping that Randy lights up because he's a
- 33:56Speaker 1: streaky player and he had a really powerful year, and
- 33:59Speaker 1: I do think that he's one of the keys to
- 34:01Speaker 1: the Mariners actually winning the World Series. To get through
- 34:04Speaker 1: this series, I think they could get away with him
- 34:07Speaker 1: still slumping. To get through the Dodgers, I think Brandy's
- 34:10Speaker 1: going to have to be much more of a catalyst
- 34:11Speaker 1: at the top of the lineup, just throwing that in there.
- 34:14Speaker 1: But on the Toronto side, AJ two things stood out
- 34:18Speaker 1: to me. Let's start with Shane Bieber. This is why
- 34:21Speaker 1: you go for a pitcher like this at the trade deadline.
- 34:24Speaker 1: And there is risk to it because he hasn't even
- 34:26Speaker 1: made I think that was his ninth start since coming
- 34:29Speaker 1: back from surgery and missing a long period of time.
- 34:32Speaker 1: But he's got that in him. And they talked a
- 34:34Speaker 1: lot on the broadcast about how the slider looked flat
- 34:37Speaker 1: in the first inning, and he clearly made an adjustment
- 34:39Speaker 1: and got the break and the bite on it, and
- 34:41Speaker 1: he was flowing them left and right. He looked like
- 34:43Speaker 1: vinted Shane Bieber. And if that's what they have, they
- 34:46Speaker 1: suddenly have a number one or two starter that they
- 34:48Speaker 1: were hoping to acquire at the deadline.
- 34:51Speaker 2: Well here's here's I mean, he's got one of the
- 34:53Speaker 2: best sliders, breaking balls, whatever slurve, sweeper curve, whatever the heck,
- 34:57Speaker 2: knuckle curve, you know, whatever they I mean, whatever it is,
- 35:01Speaker 2: his ball literally comes at you when you watch it
- 35:03Speaker 2: on TV, and it looks like it stops and then
- 35:05Speaker 2: it just makes a turn.
- 35:07Speaker 4: Right. I mean, it looks it's like, hmmm, I mean,
- 35:10Speaker 4: it just it just like looks like it stops. And
- 35:13Speaker 4: you talked about Randy A. Roseorina.
- 35:14Speaker 2: I mean, I watched his bat last night. He had
- 35:16Speaker 2: no chance on those sliders. He was throwing those sliders.
- 35:18Speaker 2: He was throwing just enough fastballs up and in and
- 35:20Speaker 2: into these right handed hitters to get them off, and
- 35:23Speaker 2: then all of a sudden, he would just throw that
- 35:25Speaker 2: slider and they just kept swinging out, swinging out, swinging
- 35:27Speaker 2: a swinging I couldn't hit it after the first inning
- 35:29Speaker 2: after Julio hit the one. So I think that he's
- 35:32Speaker 2: got one of the best breaking pitch combinations whatever, however
- 35:35Speaker 2: you want a word at that I've seen in a
- 35:37Speaker 2: long time.
- 35:37Speaker 4: When he's healthy, this is what he can do, and.
- 35:41Speaker 3: He did make. He did make I think seven minor
- 35:44Speaker 3: league starts. So it's kind of a it's kind of
- 35:46Speaker 3: cool to see, like the parallel sho Hee Otani rehabbed
- 35:49Speaker 3: in the big leagues, Shane Bieber rehabbed, but both started
- 35:54Speaker 3: kind of at the same time, and so like they're
- 35:56Speaker 3: at those outings and sometimes they have little blips during these,
- 36:02Speaker 3: I would still call it rehab. Like he's probably sixteen
- 36:05Speaker 3: starts into his Tommy John rehab coming back from Tommy John.
- 36:09Speaker 3: So you're gonna have everybody has flat innings, even even
- 36:13Speaker 3: healthy pictures have flat innings. But to still come back
- 36:16Speaker 3: and then be able to make that adjustment, My question
- 36:19Speaker 3: would be, what if what if the Mariner or the
- 36:21Speaker 3: Blue Jays hadn't blown it open? Would they have given
- 36:25Speaker 3: him that chance to shine like he did last night?
- 36:28Speaker 3: My opinion probably not. They just don't. They don't let
- 36:32Speaker 3: pitchers shine, and a guy like that has that has
- 36:35Speaker 3: a lot of experience. Sometimes you just gotta let him eat.
- 36:39Speaker 3: You gotta let him go out there. I'm not saying
- 36:41Speaker 3: that's what they gotta do with Max tonight. I'm saying
- 36:43Speaker 3: you gotta let him figure it out and get in
- 36:45Speaker 3: the groove of the game, even if it is a
- 36:47Speaker 3: one runner tie ball game.

- 37:51Speaker 1: for yourself how money it is. That's a good point.
- 37:55Speaker 1: I mean they certainly didn't give him a long leash
- 37:58Speaker 1: against the Yankees. I mean he looked much or this
- 38:00Speaker 1: time around, But who knows, maybe he gets out of
- 38:02Speaker 1: that inning and then as a great fourth and fifth
- 38:06Speaker 1: or even sixth for them like he did last night.
- 38:08Speaker 1: He was fantastic. Other thing, we have some evidence here
- 38:13Speaker 1: on Laddie Junior's swing and miss because it keeps going
- 38:16Speaker 1: down at the right time. I mean, he's a very
- 38:20Speaker 1: complete hitter. I would say his profile right AJ. He's
- 38:23Speaker 1: got pop, he's got the hit tool, he can take
- 38:25Speaker 1: a walk. But we have this board here from Mike
- 38:28Speaker 1: Petriello showing the swing and miss percentage by month. I
- 38:32Speaker 1: mean it started coming back down in September from a
- 38:35Speaker 1: high in August. The high in August was around twenty
- 38:39Speaker 1: three percent. Now in October he's down to about eleven percent.
- 38:48Speaker 2: Yeah, this is what you want to see in the postseason.
- 38:50Speaker 2: You want to see guys that step it up in
- 38:51Speaker 2: the postseason. Lady's done this. I mean the only I
- 38:54Speaker 2: think the only thing that people complain about Lotti is
- 38:58Speaker 2: they think he should be a fifty to sixty home guy.
- 39:00Speaker 2: And I don't think he's gonna be that. He's going
- 39:02Speaker 2: to be a thirty ish home run maybe some years
- 39:04Speaker 2: a little bit more, some years a little bit less.
- 39:07Speaker 2: But because he usually makes good to swinging decisions and
- 39:09Speaker 2: he usually hits for a relatively high average, I think
- 39:12Speaker 2: he's a complete hitter. And I know some people say, oh,
- 39:15Speaker 2: we should hit more homers, but this just he can
- 39:17Speaker 2: carry a lineup when he.
- 39:19Speaker 4: Needs to, and he's been doing that this postseason.
- 39:22Speaker 3: I think not striking out in the playoffs is a quality,
- 39:27Speaker 3: is a quality trait to have. Obviously, that's a that's
- 39:31Speaker 3: a general statement, but not swinging and missing like low
- 39:35Speaker 3: swing and miss prime example right here on the show,
- 39:39Speaker 3: AJ Persinski Prime doesn't swing and miss at a lot
- 39:42Speaker 3: of pitches. Doesn't strike out a lot either, but doesn't
- 39:44Speaker 3: swing and miss at a lot of pitches. Career three hundred,
- 39:48Speaker 3: career three hundred batting average in the postseason almost a
- 39:51Speaker 3: nine hundred. Ops like you perform at the biggest levels
- 39:55Speaker 3: because they're not going to make you swing and miss. Yeah,
- 39:59Speaker 3: maybe the maybe the Blue Jays early in this series
- 40:02Speaker 3: have put too many balls in play, swung too early.
- 40:08Speaker 3: Now they win and they bot race the Mariners and
- 40:10Speaker 3: they flip the script. They were swinging early, they were
- 40:12Speaker 3: super aggressive. So you gotta to me there are certain
- 40:16Speaker 3: traits that play well in the postseason and not swinging
- 40:19Speaker 3: and missing clearly as wonderfum.
- 40:23Speaker 1: Okay, so let's spin it forward. What do we have
- 40:25Speaker 1: for Luis Castillo and Max Schurz are matching up in
- 40:29Speaker 1: Game four? Castillo has been really good in the playoffs.
- 40:31Speaker 1: Obviously you got to see him AJ pitch a couple
- 40:34Speaker 1: times in that series. I will point out the Tigers
- 40:37Speaker 1: offense quite different from the Blue Jays offense. I don't
- 40:40Speaker 1: think you can get much different between those two and
- 40:43Speaker 1: Castillo was beat up in a couple starts against the
- 40:46Speaker 1: Blue Blue Jays this year, eight turned runs in ten
- 40:49Speaker 1: innings seventeen hits. Do you factor that into how you'd
- 40:52Speaker 1: predict this thing.
- 40:54Speaker 2: No, doesn't mean does not mean anything at all. It
- 40:57Speaker 2: doesn't mean a thing.
- 40:58Speaker 4: I mean.
- 40:59Speaker 2: It could have been a bad day, could have been
- 41:00Speaker 2: a little sores, you know, as something could have been
- 41:02Speaker 2: going on at home, you know, could have had a
- 41:04Speaker 2: bad meal before they get I don't know. There's a
- 41:06Speaker 2: million things. No, it doesn't mean anything. What I look
- 41:09Speaker 2: for is short leashes for both these guys.
- 41:11Speaker 4: I think.
- 41:11Speaker 2: I don't think there's gonna I don't think. Listen, if
- 41:13Speaker 2: any either of them gets through the fifth inning, I
- 41:15Speaker 2: think that would be considered a great start, because both
- 41:18Speaker 2: managers bullpens are in good spots, and I think they're
- 41:20Speaker 2: both gonna get them in there as soon as possible,
- 41:24Speaker 2: especially the Mariners.
- 41:26Speaker 4: I think the Mariners for sure, and.
- 41:28Speaker 3: Well, I shouldn't say also the Blue Jays because Max,
- 41:30Speaker 3: we just don't know. And if Max gives you three
- 41:32Speaker 3: to four, he gets into the fifth, John Snyder is
- 41:34Speaker 3: gonna be like, all right, thank you, and hopefully they're
- 41:36Speaker 3: in the game.
- 41:36Speaker 4: And boom.
- 41:37Speaker 2: Here we go with the bullpen guys, because the bullpen
- 41:39Speaker 2: for Toronto can be good when when they get the right.
- 41:42Speaker 3: Matchups or when they don't have to pitch every single night.
- 41:45Speaker 3: Louis Viarland's like standing there in the bullpen going what
- 41:49Speaker 3: the game's over? I didn't even get to pitch. I
- 41:52Speaker 3: was gonna break a record. Another thing you have to
- 41:55Speaker 3: look at Louis Castillo's outings. They came within hang on,
- 42:00Speaker 3: I'm gonna get the exact number of days apart from
- 42:03Speaker 3: each other. He faced them thirteen days. No, I'm sorry,
- 42:07Speaker 3: nineteen days apart. There was two starts in between there,
- 42:11Speaker 3: and you know, you see a guy, you see a
- 42:15Speaker 3: guy a second time. They got ten hits in the
- 42:17Speaker 3: first game against them this season, so they got their hits.
- 42:20Speaker 3: But he went six innings. He went I'm sorry, he
- 42:22Speaker 3: went five innings, had five punchouts. The next time out
- 42:27Speaker 3: when he faced them, he went five innings again, but
- 42:29Speaker 3: they scored five runs. So teams make adjustments, pitchers make adjustments.
- 42:34Speaker 3: That's why the regular season doesn't necessarily always coincide with
- 42:38Speaker 3: what's going to happen in the postseason.
- 42:41Speaker 1: And also in general, with a series like this, and
- 42:45Speaker 1: really with a postseason like this, I guess aside from
- 42:48Speaker 1: the Dodgers dominating, it's been quite unpredictable. Kevin Plar the
- 42:52Speaker 1: other day said to expect this series to go against
- 42:56Speaker 1: whatever you're thinking.
- 43:00Speaker 4: We've got to clut out and nobody can win at home.
- 43:03Speaker 4: Number one.
- 43:03Speaker 2: I keep saying home field advantage in baseball is the
- 43:07Speaker 2: most overrated thing ever. Nobody can win at home in baseball.
- 43:10Speaker 2: I'm telling you it's a lot of times it's better
- 43:12Speaker 2: to be the road team. There's just less distractions, less
- 43:14Speaker 2: things on your plate. And we've seen it so far
- 43:17Speaker 2: in the LCS. The road teams are five and zher.
- 43:19Speaker 1: That's true, less tickets to hand out too. Do we
- 43:22Speaker 1: have the clip of KP we can show it real quick.
- 43:25Speaker 10: I think this series just has funkiness written all over it.
- 43:29Speaker 10: This just feels weird to me. This just feels like
- 43:31Speaker 10: there's gonna be a series where if you try to
- 43:33Speaker 10: predict that what's going to happen, if you're betting on
- 43:36Speaker 10: the favorites to win, it just feels weird. And I
- 43:39Speaker 10: think the Blue Jays are not down and out. This
- 43:42Speaker 10: is coming from experience, someone that was down tooh in
- 43:45Speaker 10: a seven game series in an ALCS.
- 43:47Speaker 4: But if you just can.
- 43:48Speaker 10: Figure out a way to get that series back home,
- 43:51Speaker 10: you've got to love getting back home. So they just
- 43:53Speaker 10: got to figure out a way to win two. They
- 43:54Speaker 10: don't have to win all three. I would feel confident
- 43:57Speaker 10: in them coming back three to two, down three two,
- 44:00Speaker 10: back home to Toronto in front of the best home
- 44:02Speaker 10: crowd in baseball, and I mean from there anything could happen.
- 44:07Speaker 10: But I don't think they're out. I just think there's
- 44:09Speaker 10: something weird going on this series where if you try
- 44:12Speaker 10: to predict what's going to happen, the opposite's going to happen.
- 44:16Speaker 1: Hey, j there's an ESPN article about Albert Poohols also
- 44:20Speaker 1: potentially in the running for the Orioles job. Do you
- 44:23Speaker 1: think it's real or he's trying to gain some leverage
- 44:26Speaker 1: in his ongoing discussions with the Angels. Those are two
- 44:29Speaker 1: very different jobs.
- 44:32Speaker 2: I mean, what as Albert pools to listen? He was
- 44:34Speaker 2: a great player, but what has he done to say
- 44:36Speaker 2: that he should be the manager of any big league team?
- 44:38Speaker 2: I mean, he listen. I think he's going to get
- 44:40Speaker 2: the Angels job. They're already paying on what ten million
- 44:42Speaker 2: dollars a year or some crazy number to one million
- 44:44Speaker 2: special or whatever special services contract or whatever it is.
- 44:47Speaker 4: But I don't know.
- 44:48Speaker 2: I mean, you would think the Orioles would definitely want
- 44:51Speaker 2: to go in the direction of somebody that has some
- 44:53Speaker 2: experience to try to run that team, because they're supposed
- 44:56Speaker 2: to be set up for success. The Angels are the
- 44:58Speaker 2: wildcard here, But I don't know. I mean, listen, Albert's
- 45:01Speaker 2: a nice guy and he's an unbelievable player, but is
- 45:03Speaker 2: he a manager.
- 45:04Speaker 4: We don't know.
- 45:05Speaker 2: Nobody knows because he hasn't done any Yeah, I guess
- 45:07Speaker 2: he would manage in the Winner League or he demanded
- 45:09Speaker 2: he managed the Dominican maybe in WBC, But it's not
- 45:12Speaker 2: the same as running a baseball team every single day.
- 45:16Speaker 1: Angels can take that risk in my mind, or cannot.
- 45:20Speaker 1: They're in their winning window. If it doesn't work, your
- 45:22Speaker 1: front office should be moving on. That is way too
- 45:25Speaker 1: risky times.
- 45:29Speaker 3: Now, this is this is like a this is a
- 45:32Speaker 3: current or a current manager that you're poaching from somebody
- 45:35Speaker 3: or a X manager that has had some success. Sorry,
- 45:40Speaker 3: that's the reality of it.
- 45:42Speaker 1: Back for a couple of minutes and then we'll talk
- 45:44Speaker 1: to Zax Scott. We went over this a lot yesterday.
- 45:47Speaker 1: They actually had the end of season press conference today
- 45:49Speaker 1: for the Yankees. A couple notes Aaron Judge will not
- 45:53Speaker 1: need surgery, so that's good news. Aaron Boone said he's
- 45:57Speaker 1: going to take some time off and continue to do
- 45:58Speaker 1: a strengthening thing and rehab stuff. Carlos rare Don had
- 46:02Speaker 1: of bonespur removed, so he's not going to throw for
- 46:04Speaker 1: eight weeks, but sounds like he should be ready to
- 46:06Speaker 1: go in spring training. Anthony Volpi will not be ready
- 46:10Speaker 1: for spring training, and it sounds like he won't be
- 46:12Speaker 1: ready for the start of the season. He cannot swing
- 46:14Speaker 1: at all for four months. He can't dive, so he's
- 46:16Speaker 1: going to be pretty limited with the shoulder after the surgery.
- 46:19Speaker 1: The debate yesterday AJ was me against Kratz and Todd Father.
- 46:23Speaker 1: I think they need to explore other shortstop options at
- 46:25Speaker 1: this point. Despite the shoulder injury excuse, the season looked
- 46:30Speaker 1: very much the same from a bat perspective this year
- 46:32Speaker 1: compared to the prior two years. I know the offense
- 46:35Speaker 1: the defense took a big step back, but the bat's
- 46:37Speaker 1: not there.
- 46:40Speaker 2: It's been the same for every year he's been there.
- 46:43Speaker 2: It's been just six around six whatever six something ops
- 46:47Speaker 2: every time and under one hundred ops plus. He's not
- 46:50Speaker 2: even average offensive player. I know he has moments, but yeah,
- 46:53Speaker 2: I think you have to explore all options. If you're
- 46:55Speaker 2: the Yankees, you haven't won in a long time. Let's
