- 0:00Speaker 1: So I was gone, you were Yeah, you didn't notice.
- 0:05Speaker 2: No, I didn't really.
- 0:07Speaker 3: Went down to San Diego for FESTUS. My sailor son.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Will give you a London in one of our units
- 0:18Speaker 1: at s is.
- 0:20Speaker 3: It hello, sailor boy? It is?
- 0:24Speaker 2: When does he ship out?
- 0:26Speaker 1: The twenty fifth of September. Of September, sorry, so went
- 0:33Speaker 1: down for his graduation for independent duty corman. Now he's
- 0:39Speaker 1: been a corman, which is a medic.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Do they have a ceremony?
- 0:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Independent duty corman is a corman who has extra training.
- 0:50Speaker 1: It's equivalent to a PA, a physician's assistant. Now, if
- 0:55Speaker 1: he were to get out of the Navy, you want
- 0:57Speaker 1: to be a physician's assistant, there's some extra stuff he'd
- 0:59Speaker 1: have to do because your independent duty corman is specifically
- 1:03Speaker 1: trained for like Navy stuff.
- 1:05Speaker 4: Okay, you can only figure out how to treat people
- 1:08Speaker 4: if they're wearing a uniform.
- 1:11Speaker 1: And he's going to an island in the middle of
- 1:14Speaker 1: the Indian Ocean called Diego Garcia, And I said, so,
- 1:18Speaker 1: what are you mainly going to be doing there?
- 1:20Speaker 3: And he said, well, it's coconuts.
- 1:23Speaker 1: It's a lot of like stingray bites and things like that.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Because it's an island.
- 1:30Speaker 1: And while while we were down there, we spent a
- 1:32Speaker 1: lot of time at the beach in Coronado and there
- 1:35Speaker 1: are stingrays at the beach there and there were people
- 1:40Speaker 1: being stung by stingrays and were like, Festus, are you
- 1:43Speaker 1: going to go help these people?
- 1:45Speaker 3: And he's like, there's nothing you can do for nothing
- 1:49Speaker 3: you can do for sting?
- 1:50Speaker 2: Are you supposed to it?
- 1:52Speaker 3: And that is what he's that.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Somebody said, aren't you supposed to pee on? He's like, no,
- 1:56Speaker 1: that's not a thing.
- 1:57Speaker 5: No, you just walk it off.
- 1:58Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean.
- 1:59Speaker 1: It's he's like, it's there. Really isn't anything he said.
- 2:02Speaker 1: He said, maybe like if you step on it, you
- 2:04Speaker 1: can maybe put put your foot in some hot water,
- 2:07Speaker 1: might feel a little better.
- 2:09Speaker 3: But there's not a lot.
- 2:10Speaker 4: But it's besides, it would just look terrible. Does have
- 2:12Speaker 4: a navy guy go pee on somebody?
- 2:14Speaker 5: Yeah, don't know.
- 2:15Speaker 3: By the way, that doesn't work. Don't don't do that.
- 2:19Speaker 1: If you go to x ninety six dot com slash live,
- 2:21Speaker 1: you can see a picture of me in Festus at
- 2:25Speaker 1: the graduation in his in his whites.
- 2:28Speaker 2: I guess he has to wear his hair that way. Huh.
- 2:30Speaker 3: Yes, he does.
- 2:31Speaker 1: It's the military, but he did. I was so happy,
- 2:35Speaker 1: and Carrie, you will also be happy. He shaved his mustache. Yes,
- 2:39Speaker 1: it makes me happy to because they took an official
- 2:42Speaker 1: picture of him and he said, well, I didn't want
- 2:44Speaker 1: the mustache for the official picture, but yeah, it was.
- 2:49Speaker 3: It was an actual graduation ceremony.
- 2:51Speaker 4: Does he get a grog? Share a lot rum? Does
- 2:54Speaker 4: he get a share of rum? They used to give
- 2:55Speaker 4: everybody in the Navy a share of room.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Oh, I don't know.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Maybe he'll be here for a couple of weeks, So
- 3:01Speaker 1: I suspect he'll come in to the show.
- 3:03Speaker 3: Maybe, well he's.
- 3:04Speaker 5: Oh so he doesn't ship out for a bit.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Yeah, so funny twenty fifth so he so he he's
- 3:11Speaker 1: he's done right now with with this duty. He's just
- 3:14Speaker 1: packing up and he has three up piles in his apartment.
- 3:20Speaker 1: And the Navy moves you, which is nice. They have piles, Yeah.
- 3:23Speaker 3: He has. They box everything up and as they should.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Uh.
- 3:28Speaker 3: And so he's got a pile that goes to storage.
- 3:32Speaker 4: Now we're just keep looking at this picture of you
- 3:34Speaker 4: and him. Why aren't Why aren't were you seeing pictures
- 3:36Speaker 4: of the piles. I want to pile pictures.
- 3:41Speaker 1: So there's a pile that goes to storage, which is
- 3:44Speaker 1: like furniture because where he's going, maybe he doesn't need furniture. Yeah,
- 3:48Speaker 1: so that and then there's a pile that they will
- 3:51Speaker 1: ship to the island.
- 3:54Speaker 3: Where he's gonna.
- 3:55Speaker 1: You know, I told him to pack a bunch of
- 3:57Speaker 1: sunscreen and stuff like that. This is the island the
- 4:00Speaker 1: island pile, And they said, whatever you put in the
- 4:02Speaker 1: island pile, you might not get it for two months. Oh,
- 4:07Speaker 1: so don't put anything in there that you.
- 4:10Speaker 4: You know, Diego Garcia used to be a leper colony,
- 4:14Speaker 4: says here probably and it was. It was a leper colony,
- 4:17Speaker 4: and it was also coconut plantations.
- 4:20Speaker 3: That makes sense.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Yeah, it's the the only thing on the island now
- 4:24Speaker 1: is the naval base.
- 4:25Speaker 3: That's the only thing there.
- 4:27Speaker 4: Oh, there's probably a leper or two, and maybe a coconut.
- 4:30Speaker 5: I'm surprised there's not a pizza.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Hut no there, So I guess there's like there's a restaurant,
- 4:37Speaker 1: there's an officers club, and then everybody else restaurant.
- 4:42Speaker 3: And he's in the everybody else Yes, and that's it.
- 4:45Speaker 1: So he's been like eating a bunch of fast food
- 4:48Speaker 1: because he's not going to be able to get stuff.
- 4:50Speaker 3: Like that while he's there. But so and then he
- 4:53Speaker 3: has a pot.
- 4:54Speaker 5: Even Guano has a McDonald's.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Yeah, no, it's it's tiny. So there are there are
- 5:00Speaker 1: four medical personnel on the whole island. So there's four
- 5:04Speaker 1: thousand sailors there and there's four so there's gonna be
- 5:08Speaker 1: two of them on duty at any time.
- 5:11Speaker 3: And they do everything. They drive the ambulance.
- 5:14Speaker 1: They so if somebody's the other side of the island, yeah,
- 5:17Speaker 1: but they pick them up.
- 5:18Speaker 4: On the other side of the Island's four miles corman
- 5:22Speaker 4: to drive the ambulance.
- 5:24Speaker 3: No, that's they they are, They're it.
- 5:26Speaker 5: It's ridiculous.
- 5:27Speaker 3: They do it all.
- 5:31Speaker 1: But he'll he'll he'll be here for a couple of weeks.
- 5:34Speaker 1: I'm gonna fill him full of beef because.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Because I don't they don't have cows there.
- 5:39Speaker 3: I don't think they have cows there.
- 5:41Speaker 1: No, uh, fish Yeah, And he said like he's gonna
- 5:46Speaker 1: do a lot of fishing himself.
- 5:48Speaker 3: And if you catch fish and you take it to
- 5:50Speaker 3: the mess hall, they'll cook it for you.
- 5:52Speaker 6: So there's but they can't find somebody to drive the ambulance.
- 5:57Speaker 5: I guess our military.
- 5:59Speaker 2: I don't know. I'm trying to.
- 6:01Speaker 4: I'm trying to see what if there's anything to do there.
- 6:04Speaker 3: No, I told you this before.
- 6:06Speaker 1: I'll mention it again because I looked into it like
- 6:08Speaker 1: I wanted to learn everything about where he was going,
- 6:10Speaker 1: And they said, Uh, if you're stationed here, one of
- 6:14Speaker 1: three things will happen. You're either going to become a
- 6:17Speaker 1: hunk because you.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Work out a lot, or a slub.
- 6:21Speaker 1: No, it all rhymes A hunk, a monk because you
- 6:28Speaker 1: do a lot of contemplation, you do a lot of
- 6:30Speaker 1: soul surging, or a drunk because you can, so you
- 6:33Speaker 1: can be a drunk, a honk, or a monk.
- 6:35Speaker 2: I know where i'd go because there's not a lot.
- 6:39Speaker 4: Hey, the island is a haven for several species of
- 6:42Speaker 4: warrior crabs.
- 6:43Speaker 6: Warrior crabs, Yeah, well you don't want thase Do you
- 6:47Speaker 6: eat those?
- 6:48Speaker 2: And coconut crabs?
- 6:50Speaker 3: Do you eat those?
- 6:52Speaker 2: Yeah? I don't know. No, it doesn't look like it.
- 6:54Speaker 1: No.
- 6:56Speaker 6: Texter says, I was stung by a sting ray twenty
- 6:58Speaker 6: years ago and it's still hurt.
- 7:00Speaker 3: Yeah, there's nothing they could do.
- 7:02Speaker 6: Here's another text I found out peeing on jellyfish things
- 7:05Speaker 6: doesn't work. By peeing on my friend and nothing happened. Yeah,
- 7:10Speaker 6: I'm a girl, so it was extremely awkward.
- 7:13Speaker 3: That's what Festus said. Don't pee on anybody. It's there.
- 7:17Speaker 4: There are three lizards and one toad species known to
- 7:19Speaker 4: an abbit. Diego Garcia.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Oh, someone says my son just returned from Diego Garcia
- 7:26Speaker 1: after being there three months?
- 7:27Speaker 2: Was he a hunk, a drunk or a month?
- 7:29Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 7:29Speaker 3: I want to know.
- 7:30Speaker 5: There's a ton of crabs. I can send video if
- 7:32Speaker 5: you'd like.
- 7:32Speaker 3: Oh, okay, why worth he only there for three months?
- 7:36Speaker 6: I wonder I think it means he got back three
- 7:37Speaker 6: months after being there.
- 7:40Speaker 5: Oh, after being there for three months?
- 7:42Speaker 1: Oh, so Festus will be there a year a year,
- 7:47Speaker 1: which is nice because usually your duty of stations are
- 7:50Speaker 1: longer than that.
- 7:51Speaker 3: So that because it's kind of difficult to be there.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Oh. If you go to x n I six dot
- 7:57Speaker 1: com slash live, you can see Festus and Daddy Gary
- 8:01Speaker 1: in front of a helicopter. So we took a tour of.
- 8:07Speaker 2: The what's it called the base?
- 8:10Speaker 3: No, No, it's.
- 8:10Speaker 1: An aircraft carrier that's in port there. It's the Midway,
- 8:16Speaker 1: the Midway yeah, that's that's like a World War two
- 8:19Speaker 1: aircraft carrier.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Well, the Battle of Midway, and.
- 8:24Speaker 3: I don't know how they do it.
- 8:27Speaker 1: So they take you all through it and show you
- 8:29Speaker 1: where they sleep and where are they.
- 8:31Speaker 5: It's very cramp.
- 8:32Speaker 3: It's very I mean, and it's it's a cramp. It's
- 8:35Speaker 3: like it's like you're ducking everywhere you go.
- 8:38Speaker 1: There's no windows, there's like I think you would go
- 8:43Speaker 1: crazy in there.
- 8:44Speaker 4: I knew a guy who was a pilot that landed,
- 8:47Speaker 4: you know, jets on an air He flew and landed
- 8:50Speaker 4: on aircraft carriers. I said, what what's it like to
- 8:52Speaker 4: try and land on an aircraft carry and he said, well,
- 8:55Speaker 4: when you're coming in, you look down at it and
- 8:57Speaker 4: it looks like there's a it looks like a postage
- 8:59Speaker 4: stamp and it's rocking back and forth.
- 9:02Speaker 2: He said, So you have to really be careful and
- 9:04Speaker 2: know what you're doing.
- 9:05Speaker 1: It's amazing that as many of them do it successfully,
- 9:09Speaker 1: is they? But that so the helicopter were standing in
- 9:11Speaker 1: front of there with Daddy Gary. Daddy Gary was in
- 9:14Speaker 1: Vietnam War and he was stationed on an island called Kulabrita,
- 9:19Speaker 1: which is somewhere near Guama.
- 9:21Speaker 2: That sounds much nicer.
- 9:24Speaker 1: And he said, this helicopter is the helicopter that would
- 9:29Speaker 1: bring them their weekly supplies. And then if you had leave,
- 9:34Speaker 1: it's the helicopter that would take you off the island.
- 9:36Speaker 1: And he said every time the helicopter would come to
- 9:39Speaker 1: take you off, as.
- 9:40Speaker 3: It was flying, the engine would.
- 9:42Speaker 1: Cut out multiple times, so you're and it would drop
- 9:47Speaker 1: and then it would catch. Oh, and then we keep
- 9:49Speaker 1: going for a little bit and no, then that goes
- 9:51Speaker 1: out and it sinks a little.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Bit, then it catches again. Like why did you ever
- 9:55Speaker 3: get on? He's like, there's the only way to get
- 9:57Speaker 3: off the island.
- 9:58Speaker 4: The island is designated as one of the emergency landing
- 10:01Speaker 4: sites worldwide for the NASA Space Shuttle, but it was
- 10:04Speaker 4: never used.
- 10:05Speaker 2: It never had to be used.
- 10:06Speaker 5: Coconut crabs are protected.
- 10:08Speaker 3: You can't eat them.
- 10:09Speaker 5: You can't eat them. Jimmy John says he's sure that
- 10:12Speaker 5: the island is haunted.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Okay, So so Festus says, it's kind of like an
- 10:18Speaker 1: Area fifty one.
- 10:19Speaker 3: He kind of place, there's a.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Bunch and he's going to do some scooby doo slew
- 10:24Speaker 1: thing while he's because there's a bunch of conspiracy theories
- 10:28Speaker 1: about what they do there because it's kind of secretive.
- 10:31Speaker 4: Hm, he's going to be He's going to be dissecting aliens,
- 10:35Speaker 4: isn't he. Yeah.
- 10:38Speaker 6: So there are people that join the Navy just to
- 10:40Speaker 6: move people's stuff. No Ah, I want to meet someone
- 10:43Speaker 6: who joined the Navy and got that assignment.
- 10:45Speaker 1: I asked Fastus this and he said no, they they
- 10:48Speaker 1: pay for a regular.
- 10:50Speaker 3: Moving company to do it.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, all right, Well this has been Hello sailor boy.
- 10:58Speaker 2: I've had one that said goodbye, say her boy,
