- 2:10Speaker 1: Broken and Beautiful Podcast. I'm so glad you're here. I'm Patria,
- 2:14Speaker 1: the host for Echoes and Edges and the founder of
- 2:17Speaker 1: the Broken and Beautiful Collective. We are a group of
- 2:21Speaker 1: people on the hunt for beauty, meaning, and transformation, and
- 2:25Speaker 1: I hope that this offers a little bit of that
- 2:28Speaker 1: into your world.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Today.
- 2:30Speaker 1: We're exploring a theme that feels both deeply personal and
- 2:34Speaker 1: profoundly healing. What happens when our inner world begins to
- 2:38Speaker 1: take shape in the outer world. For many of us,
- 2:41Speaker 1: healing starts with insight. We learn new language, understand our stories,
- 2:46Speaker 1: and begin to make sense of what we live through.
- 2:49Speaker 1: But at some point, healing asks for something more. It
- 2:53Speaker 1: asks us to embody it, to create, to plant something,
- 2:58Speaker 1: to cook something, or to make something beautiful, to participate
- 3:02Speaker 1: with God with our own lives rather than merely understand them.
- 3:06Speaker 1: My guest today has been reflecting deeply on what it
- 3:09Speaker 1: means to live from abundance rather than scarcity, and how
- 3:13Speaker 1: creativity can become a doorway into healing, connection and presence.
- 3:19Speaker 1: I'm so glad she's here, So welcome, Lindsay.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Hello, so happy to be here with you.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Hello, good talk with Patria. Yes, and we have to
- 3:35Speaker 1: mention that we're twining today and we didn't even mean to.
- 3:38Speaker 1: This is because we are kindred spirits. I think that's
- 3:41Speaker 1: what I think.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Yes, I'll take it.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Yeah, me too, Lindsay, You've recently really been exploring a
- 3:51Speaker 1: lot about abundance and scarcity and this idea of living
- 3:56Speaker 1: that out. What does creativity and abundance mean to you?
- 4:01Speaker 1: What does it mean to you in the season of
- 4:03Speaker 1: your life?
- 4:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I think previously this season of my life, I
- 4:08Speaker 2: didn't realize that those words are so full of life itself.
- 4:15Speaker 2: You can't really have creativity creating new things without life.
- 4:20Speaker 2: And I mean, abundance is just life to the fullest.
- 4:23Speaker 2: And I mean I probably knew that about the words,
- 4:26Speaker 2: but they feel so different to me now, like kind
- 4:30Speaker 2: of seeing their actual tentacles, like in my healing, in
- 4:35Speaker 2: my day, how much I actually need abundance and creativity.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Those felt like frivolous things probably in life path.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Oh and now they scarcity and kind of go together. Yeah. Probably.
- 4:52Speaker 1: What do you mean when you say full of life?
- 4:55Speaker 1: What does that mean?
- 4:56Speaker 2: Well, I think we could go in a circle with
- 4:58Speaker 2: abundance and full of life. Right, it feels It's how
- 5:01Speaker 2: I was describing abundance. But I also what comes to
- 5:05Speaker 2: mind is arousal, like everything awake, you know, fullness like
- 5:11Speaker 2: I'm I'm all here, I don't I don't know what
- 5:15Speaker 2: might happen, Like there's hope and opportunity. Those things feel
- 5:20Speaker 2: like full of life.
- 5:30Speaker 1: So what has it been like for you to go
- 5:35Speaker 1: in this direction, to move in this direction, or to
- 5:38Speaker 1: transform maybe in this direction, from that scarcity survival mindset
- 5:45Speaker 1: into this abundant, creative life living mindset. What does that
- 5:51Speaker 1: been like for you?
- 5:52Speaker 2: Terrifying is the word that's coming to mind, especially the
- 5:55Speaker 2: early movements, because survival has such like a lockdown, rigid,
- 6:04Speaker 2: black and white you know, care quality to it. That
- 6:09Speaker 2: creativity and freedom and process, you know, opportunity. Those did
- 6:18Speaker 2: not feel good at the beginning because survival strategies are
- 6:23Speaker 2: what felt safe. You know, there wasn't wiggle room in that.
- 6:28Speaker 2: So I would say, yeah, six years ago, me was
- 6:33Speaker 2: not thinking that these words felt helpful and you know,
- 6:38Speaker 2: graceful or even possible. So but as I made it
- 6:44Speaker 2: through those early movements that were terrifying, Oh what has
- 6:49Speaker 2: it felt like? Freedom breathing? You know? I remember something
- 6:55Speaker 2: you would have told me many times, and maybe for
- 6:58Speaker 2: years I didn't get it, but like you could change
- 7:00Speaker 2: your mind and.
- 7:02Speaker 1: The right to edit.
- 7:04Speaker 2: It's like possibility, don't We don't know what's going to happen.
- 7:08Speaker 2: We don't have to know. You know, the freedom in
- 7:12Speaker 2: that has has felt really beautiful to to learn to
- 7:17Speaker 2: live in. But it's not something that came easy.
- 7:22Speaker 1: I mean you're describing, you're describing necessity, right, I mean
- 7:29Speaker 1: that's what I'm hearing, and so you can. I hate
- 7:33Speaker 1: it when people say right, because it assumes an agreement.
- 7:36Speaker 1: But so so you know, I don't want you to
- 7:38Speaker 1: disagree for agreement's sake, for sure, I think you know
- 7:40Speaker 1: that about me. But it's like that that rigidity, you know,
- 7:47Speaker 1: the rules based behavior that you're talking about, the structure
- 7:53Speaker 1: where there wasn't possibility, but there was what predictability, predict stability,
- 8:01Speaker 1: that's it. Yeah, And that predictability, that certainty, that sense
- 8:07Speaker 1: of I know it's coming next, felt safer. Yes, yeah, yeah, Okay,
- 8:14Speaker 1: anything else you want to say about that move or
- 8:16Speaker 1: what's coming to your mind before we move on to
- 8:21Speaker 1: another question.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Just thinking about the madness of mindfulness being in the
- 8:29Speaker 2: moment embodiment. The tiny, tiny moments of that were like
- 8:34Speaker 2: the conduit, and it drove me crazy. I mean I
- 8:37Speaker 2: did not get it, but those it felt so unsafe
- 8:41Speaker 2: to be still and quiet, you know, when I could
- 8:45Speaker 2: be moving and doing something predictable. So I'm just my
- 8:49Speaker 2: heart feels really caught in that early place of how
- 8:54Speaker 2: uncomfortable that stillness was, but that was the pathway to
- 9:02Speaker 2: the freedom, you know, the creativity, the space.
- 9:13Speaker 1: What would you say to someone who is living in
- 9:19Speaker 1: the scarcity out of need for survival predictability, to keep
- 9:25Speaker 1: control of their life because anything outside of that feels
- 9:29Speaker 1: too much, you know, too overwhelming. It takes their arousal
- 9:33Speaker 1: out of a window of tolerance and they become dysregulated,
- 9:37Speaker 1: you know, so control is very tight. What would you
- 9:40Speaker 1: say to that person is just considering or contemplating this
- 9:44Speaker 1: idea of maybe there's more for me.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I think if they're even thinking about it,
- 9:51Speaker 2: they probably really hunger for it, which is maddening because
- 9:57Speaker 2: you don't know how to get it, at least if
- 9:58Speaker 2: you're anything like me, and so acknowledgement of the need
- 10:05Speaker 2: for the structure and the need for the predictability, you know,
- 10:09Speaker 2: that was the first place to bring kindness like this
- 10:14Speaker 2: is happening for a reason, It worked for a reason,
- 10:17Speaker 2: you know. And then so I would say, as hard
- 10:23Speaker 2: as it is, that the first place is just to
- 10:26Speaker 2: where you're at, bring kindness to why you have to
- 10:31Speaker 2: be there, and then have someone in your life maybe
- 10:36Speaker 2: who has journeyed a bit farther and could just be
- 10:40Speaker 2: with you. I think that feels really important.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Yeah, that's so wise. I mean, it really is. It
- 10:48Speaker 1: is the support in bearing the intolerable, like you know,
- 10:55Speaker 1: for you you mentioned stillness, for me very much, stopping
- 11:01Speaker 1: it has it initially felt like I would say, it
- 11:04Speaker 1: feels like dying. You know, there's a there's a feeling
- 11:07Speaker 1: of this is not well. And so to have supports
- 11:12Speaker 1: in that, whether that's a good friend or a coach
- 11:16Speaker 1: or a counselor or a pastor or you know, wherever
- 11:21Speaker 1: that support can come, and that can even change over
- 11:24Speaker 1: seasons too. But we're not meant for crumbs. That's one
- 11:29Speaker 1: that I don't know why that phrase keeps popping up
- 11:31Speaker 1: in my mind, is that I just want to add
- 11:35Speaker 1: that that your business, your coaching business, is called how
- 11:40Speaker 1: much more right?
- 11:41Speaker 2: Yes?
- 11:42Speaker 1: Yeah, because there's something about that, that imagery of of
- 11:49Speaker 1: how you know, we're we're made for a feast. That's
- 11:52Speaker 1: what I keep thinking is we're we're made for that.
- 11:56Speaker 1: We're living on this and there's a big gap between
- 12:00Speaker 1: this and that, and we need to help. We need support,
- 12:04Speaker 1: We need somebody that's with us and for us in
- 12:08Speaker 1: that movement. As we close today's conversation, I keep returning
- 12:19Speaker 1: to something Lindsay said. She described moving from survival into
- 12:24Speaker 1: abundance as terrifying. I think that's such an important word
- 12:30Speaker 1: because so often we imagine healing should feel peaceful from
- 12:34Speaker 1: the very beginning. But to be honest, nervous systems that
- 12:39Speaker 1: learn safety through predictability, control and overfunctioning freedom can actually
- 12:45Speaker 1: feel frightening before it feels beautiful. The invitation isn't to
- 12:51Speaker 1: force ourselves into abundance. It's simply to become curious about
- 12:55Speaker 1: the possibility that there may be more life available than
- 12:59Speaker 1: survival alone. In our next conversation, Lindsey shares how that
- 13:04Speaker 1: possibility began taking physical shape in her own life through
- 13:09Speaker 1: sour dough, bread, tending plants, through dirt, beauty, and creation itself.
- 13:16Speaker 1: She began discovering that sometimes our hands understand healing long
- 13:22Speaker 1: before our minds do. I can't wait to share that
- 13:26Speaker 1: conversation with you until next time. Be gentle with yourself.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Healing rarely begins with a giant leap. More often it
- 13:35Speaker 1: begins with one small breath toward hope. If this episode
