- 0:49Slash Radio Detectives. We're one of our two thousand friends. This is the
- 0:55last episode to Let George Do It. It's definitely unique. The previous episode
- 1:03of Let George Do It we played on Monday, was from November seventeenth of
- 1:07nineteen fifty two. This one is from some twenty two months later, and
- 1:15it was originally broadcast September twenty seventh, nineteen fifty four. Now I will
- 1:23not attempt to list all ninety seven episodes that were aired between this program and
- 1:34and the previous one. The Digital Delhi Digital delhiftp dot com has the most
- 1:41complete log of Let George Do It, and most of those episode names are
- 1:46unknown. The only one they were able to confirm was from March the second
- 1:53of nineteen fifty three, and the title of that was the pink Hurst,
- 1:57which was of course a todd of another episode that was previously done of Let
- 2:06George Do It. It does seem to me probable that Bob Bailey left at
- 2:13some point, and they may even have begun airing some of the episodes that
- 2:20were set up for syndication in Canada on the Harry Goodman label. But point
- 2:28Olan Soul took over in the role of George Valentheim with an entirely different sponsor.
- 2:36Olan Soul is probably best known as the voice of Batman as an animated
- 2:45character. So if you grew up during the sixties and seventies and you watched
- 2:50The Batman Superman Hour in the late sixties, or the super Friends and the
- 2:57seventies into the early or he saw some of the Batman's Scooby doo A crossovers
- 3:04in the seventies, you were entertained by Olin Soul. In fact, the
- 3:07only super Friends franchises he didn't voice Batman in, or the legendary Superpower Show
- 3:15and Galactic Guardians from about eighty four and eighty five. And probably the one
- 3:22place I remember him most on television is from some of his appearances in Dragnet.
- 3:28If you've seen some of the nineteen fifties programs, he had a recurring
- 3:32role as Ray Pinker from the Crime Lab, and in the sixties the first
- 3:38couple of seasons he had a few appearances as Ray Murray, also from the
- 3:44Crime Lab, kind of a what Dennis at the Digital BELLI described as a
- 3:49welterweight top character but actually bantamweight. Excuse me, but his voice acting packed
- 3:55a punch. Well, let's go ahead and take a listen to it.
- 3:59It's time now for today's episode. I'll let George do it. The Ghost
- 4:02of Ireland. Betty First, no notice. Danger is my stock and trade.
- 4:09If the job's too tough for you to handle, you better job for
- 4:11me and George Valentine. Rightful detailed. Yes, it's let George do it.
- 4:19Brought to you by Preme p r e a M. The New Miracle
- 4:26way to cream your coffee. We'll begin tonight's transcribe adventure of George Valentine in
- 4:34a moment. But first all the new way to cream it is you even
- 4:40get fream, that's cream. We're a capital p over all other products for
- 4:45creaming your coffee. You'll prefer Preme in instant pot red form p R e
- 4:50a M. Here's why. First, Prem has a rich, delicious flavor
- 4:56because it's made entirely from fresh sweet cream and i'm or milk products. Yet
- 5:00when you use Prem in your coffee, every cut contains only about half as
- 5:05many calories as if you use coffee cream, and then PREM is wonderfully convenient.
- 5:12It never sours, never turns, keeps indefinitely while sealed open for every
- 5:16day use. Cream stays fresh tasting to the last spoonful on your kitchen shelf
- 5:21or in your refrigerator. And last, but not least, this new dairy
- 5:27miracle actually saves you more than one third the cost of coffee cream. Tomorrow,
- 5:32start serving creme whenever you serve coffee p r ea n The new way
- 5:39to cream it is to premit fine getre were a capital free and now Tonight's
- 5:47adventure of George Valentine, the Ghost of Ireland. Betty dear mister Valentine.
- 6:03Valentine, huh, dear mister Valentine, I live in an enormous rambling house
- 6:12built like an Italian villa. That's funny. What else did she write?
- 6:18What was the best of it? Crying? It's crying, That's what it
- 6:27is. It's trying. I know it's crying. That's where is it?
- 6:40It's crying. I know it's crying. I know it's Oh Christine, for
- 6:49heaven says, who are you going in such a hurry? Say I'm sorry,
- 6:55but I just listen. Yes, my dear Christine, you've had such
- 7:03a long trip. I thought you were going to lie down and rest a
- 7:06while. Did you hear something, my dear, No, No, I
- 7:15didn't hear anything. Mister Valentine. Oh is he? Why were you writing
- 7:20him a letter, mister Daddy about the hall? Here's a lot of you
- 7:24didn't finish. Oh oh that, but I did finish another one. That
- 7:29one blotted. Yes, I've already written mister Valentine. He's he's just a
- 7:34friend of mine. Oh it's lonely here, and I thought perhaps he might
- 7:40like to call on me. Now, you run along and get your rest.
- 7:44There's nothing to be afraid of in the old place. You may hear
- 7:47a shutter banging once in a while, but that's all. That's absolutely all,
- 7:54all right, miss Daddy. Sorry, my imagination seems to I'm sorry.
- 7:59I've let's daddy, I got the letter you wrote to me, all
- 8:11right, but please please don't talk so loud. Mister Valentine. Is he
- 8:16a miss brupof course, Oh lovely old room. Christine is a sleeve.
- 8:24I don't want to disturb her. That's Christine O'Casey. Yes, she just
- 8:28got here, you know, from Canada. She's been there since before her
- 8:33aunt's death several months ago. Just sit down, thanks, miss Daddy.
- 8:37But I'm not sure we're staying. Oh but I have wrote. Yes,
- 8:41you wrote in your letter that you wanted a man investigated the Professor E.
- 8:43L. Gifford from Denver. Yes, that's right, Professor Gifford. You
- 8:48sounded as though you wanted us to well get something on her. Oh now
- 8:54you must understanding yet does I gather all you suspect about is Professor Gifford?
- 8:58Is it be liable to buy this house? Yes, yes, that's just
- 9:03it. You see, mister Eustace, the red estate man, has received
- 9:07this author from day. Yes, I know. I've already talked to mister
- 9:09Eustace, and I find he's also the executor of a state for one Miss
- 9:13Betty of Casey, who used to own the house. Yes, for Betty,
- 9:18the one who died. That's Christine's aunt. And I find you don't
- 9:22even have anything to do with the sale of this house. Miss Daddy,
- 9:24you don't even own it, any part of it? No, no,
- 9:26I don't. But I was Betty o Casey's companion for more than twenty years.
- 9:31Mister Valentine, Sure, I understand she actually pretty well taken care of,
- 9:35right, Only the house wanted the principal beneficiary Christine, a relative,
- 9:39and it's christine desire to sell. According to mister Eustace, that's why she's
- 9:43here to speed up a sale, any sale. Okay, But miss Daddy,
- 9:50what do you have against this professor? Why shouldn't he buy the house?
- 9:54Why should you want to hire me to interfere with any possible sale?
- 9:56The professor, he's not the right not the right type. The house is
- 10:03Christine. But what does she say having to talk to her about it?
- 10:07Christine isn't well, she's not sympathetic to the house. Wow, she's not
- 10:13sympathetic. She doesn't understand. She's young and cynical, and this isn't just
- 10:20a usual house. Mister Valentine, Well, I grant you it's pretty old,
- 10:26valuable maybe, but not so easy to get rid of. We looked
- 10:28all over for this house years ago. It was just what Ireland Betty wanted.
- 10:35It made her so healthy. In a minute, who Betty, you're
- 10:39casey Ireland Betty. Oh, I know it does make her sound rather like
- 10:45an apple woman, but it was nickname. Many people called her that,
- 10:48Ireland Betty maybe, but it sounds more than me like the name of a
- 10:52racehorse. Oh. She would have loved to hear you say that she owned
- 10:56some horses. One. She was so enthusiastic, so interested in in everything,
- 11:05and she was no more recently Irish than I am. But she called
- 11:09herself second cousin to a Leaprica. Sounds like quite a woman up pixy,
- 11:15miss Brooks. Not a woman not at all like her niece. A little
- 11:18modern realist, the unbeliever, unbeliever in Whackman's Daddy, lapcas Well, unbeliever
- 11:26in this house for onting, you'll have to be more specific. What is
- 11:31her about this placements daddy? That you don't want it sold? Because that
- 11:33is the idea, isn't it? You don't want anyone else living here?
- 11:37Why, mister Valentine, Ireland Betty and I became great believers in Well,
- 11:43she looked all over to find this house because this house was supposed to have
- 11:50I'm sorry, mister Valentine, then I've troubled you. You're too young yourself,
- 11:54and a good deal more honest than I thought you would be. Why
- 11:58now, wait a minute? Oh excuse me, sorry minute, how on
- 12:05earth did you get in? Here was the key? Natural name? Greetings,
- 12:09my dear miss Daddy. You haven't changed a bit. Where did you
- 12:13get her nickel of my hand? Oh? This it won't bye? Two
- 12:16tape measures? See if the space for a piano in the parlor besides my
- 12:20recording instruments. And excuse me, miss Daddy, but is this this is
- 12:26the guy? That guy? Professor Gibbon, Yesaline Brooks, how do you
- 12:33do? Mister Valentine was just leaving no what no, no, I wasn't
- 12:39by anymore. I was just going to say, I'd like to stick around
- 12:43for a while. Oh, mister v you couldn't help me hold one end
- 12:48of the tape measure. Mister Valentine, come along. I am sorry,
- 12:52I'm intruded in miss Daddy, but I was to meet Eustless here he gave
- 12:56me the key. Oh Ustless, Miss the do come along with Valentine,
- 13:01Bryan Us and an almost empty piece of real estate. Professor Gifford, what's
- 13:13your business? Professor my own happiness. Mister Valentine, what's your Now?
- 13:18What I meant was, what are you a professor of nothing? Ah?
- 13:24The sort of nothing that is something, the sort of something that is nothing
- 13:28until it is seen or heard by man, until man like myself, is
- 13:33willing to admit that he sees what he can't understand, what no one understand.
- 13:39Huh that makes as much sense as a scramble jigsaw puzzle. Oh,
- 13:43it's quite simple. I'm a student of psychic research, supernatural being. Oh
- 13:50brother, no, not the only fold blast, mister Valentine. Okay,
- 13:56I'm not laughing. You believe in gold, so did Ireland. Betty so
- 14:05does this, Yes, most of them all, So that's why you're buying
- 14:11it. Places infested with ghosts. Not every house has a ghost, you
- 14:18know anymore that it has good plumbing. But that's why Betty bought it originally.
- 14:24Can a ghost reported off and on? Past hundred years? Shall we
- 14:30rejoin the ladies? Yeah? Yeah, I'm getting scared. I almost had
- 14:33this house once before, Valentine, Ireland Betty rather had her cap set for
- 14:39me. She did not. Yes, I would have had it for nothing
- 14:43then if it hadn't been for her bodyguard here. Will you throw him out
- 14:48of here? Or do I have to no sense of hum has had Doughty?
- 14:52All right? Better because it's true Ireland. Betty pursued me like the
- 14:56beautiful banshee that she was. She came galloping at me. I said,
- 15:01never mind, mister Bell, and that's for humors. Daddy, quiet,
- 15:05listen, don't move anyone. That's what it sounds like. I never't know.
- 15:22Cry. Yes, that's what it is. Come on, got it
- 15:28at both of Yeah? Sure, sure it's crying, all right, but
- 15:33that's not my ghosts. That's his voice. It crippy, like my foe.
- 15:56You're all right now. I founder just lying there on the stone outside
- 16:00her ends window there in the suncond gardens us. Yes, that's right,
- 16:03whimpering, almost unconscious. She'd had a terrible fall. I was coming up
- 16:07by the side entrance. You see what makes you think she just had a
- 16:11fall? Christine? What happened? Can you tell me? Did you fall?
- 16:17No? No, I didn't the tennis? What was it? I
- 16:22don't know what happened with daddy. Oh, I'm here, George. She's
- 16:25just woozing it. Ray. Did you see the ghost? Christine? No?
- 16:29Professor for the love of mine. Oh no, I didn't. I
- 16:32didn't. I tell you there's no such thing as ghost. It's all your
- 16:34imaginations. I saw the ghost for myself the night Shurant died. Perhaps even
- 16:42she saw it over the lawn. By this summer, how are you talking
- 16:48about who saw what? When I wasn't here. You never told me ghost?
- 16:56Nothing to upset yourself over. And I'm sure is doughty unless she cares
- 17:00to lie, will admit the chi too saw What if I did? What
- 17:06if I did see it? It doesn't have anything to do with this.
- 17:08It doesn't. It got like nine times and all knocked down by a ghost.
- 17:18All right, now, come on, come on, somebody. And
- 17:21she just noticed where you were found Christine, the stone floor outside your aunt
- 17:26window, Christine, exactly where you were. That's where you're on where she
- 17:34died the night that he saw the ghost. Coincident. Sure, as you

- 19:33you hear this? Books? Where are you? Where did you go?
- 19:40Am? I just went back and beds beginning the mine with the men quiet
- 19:47wowing. I listen this. Huh there is my imagination at word? Oh
- 19:56night, down again? Put this on your farm. My farad's all right.
- 19:59Doctor said he'd be out later to take it. You've been pretty sick.
- 20:04I've in Canada, hadn't you? Yes, And I'm tired, and
- 20:07I'm my aunt had asthma? You know, did she? But that wasn't
- 20:15what she died of, was it? Well? Sort of, that's what
- 20:18the doctor wrote me. I wasn't here, you know. We've been having
- 20:22a fight and she had guests for the weekend, so I just got in
- 20:26my car and drove off. See that window there, French doors. There's
- 20:30no guardrail outside it. He thought she must have opened the doors trying to
- 20:34get more air. She was having one of her attacks. Wow, she
- 20:40fell to the stone below. They found in the next morning. Only now
- 20:48these people talk about a ghost. You don't suppose she opened the window and
- 20:55saw it out to herself? Stop it not you too? Why did you
- 21:00get hurt? Did you follow the window too? No? I was out
- 21:06there and I took them still. Really, that's all right right? Why
- 21:11don't you want to talk about it to the others? What is it about
- 21:14this house that upsets you. So everything aboutom this book I hated. I've
- 21:17always hated it. My aunt and I used to fight about it. She
- 21:21was so wonderful. What would she take up with those fads, those crazy
- 21:26people, those crazy superstitions, that awful professor Giffert to you by chasing after
- 21:32trying to impress all is talk about ectoplasm and manifestations, And you blame me,
- 21:38Christina. I don't believe in such things any more than you do.
- 21:42But I would blame you if you kept too much to yourself, if you
- 21:47attributed certain things to your own imagination just because you've been sick and then tired
- 21:51and upset. You mean, I mean what you heard when I was still
- 21:56in the kitchen. I mean why you've come back here, and what you
- 21:57may have seen, and what you suspect about these people about your aunt's death.
- 22:03I don't really know. Is this to Valentine going to stay here?
- 22:07Here's Christine? Where is he now? He'll be close, He'll be right
- 22:12here, won't he has? Of course, he's just just chatting with missus
- 22:18Dowdy. He's probably showing him around the place. Armatista, Suppose you tell
- 22:30me the truth about what you saw that night. Well, I, well,
- 22:33my room is third story. I've been reading in bed. There's been
- 22:37a good deal of talk at dinner about the the ghost being the proper time
- 22:41of year for appearance and all. Naturally I tried to be tolerant, but
- 22:48well, perhaps I did watch a little You see, it's supposed to appear
- 22:52just momentarily out back by the summer house, moving slowly and then sort of
- 22:57floating away. And did it. But for heaven's sake, it didn't.
- 23:03Actually I didn't hear anything, and certainly whatever it was had no substance.
- 23:08Nobody Actually the next morning I didn't say anything. Why should I effect of
- 23:14all the talk a trick of the imagination. Of course, you'd have been
- 23:17laughed at. You don't believe in ghosts. What I do is Eustace.
- 23:22I believe in the kind of ghost that can be tricked up by a human
- 23:23being. And maybe it's being tricked up again. George, I sneaked out
- 23:40on of Christine's shoes. The heel hears torn off. Yeah, that's where
- 23:45she fell. Stone be for the Suthern garden. But if you overhang there
- 23:48start George Luke shut out itself. Stone steps here have mud on the side,
- 23:56roses had been watered, and mud on Christine's shoes. But if she
- 23:59came down here, she would have been on the path. Hold, yeah,
- 24:03here we are. I could feel a footprint where she stepped off the
- 24:06path at the top of the steps. What's the one, all right?
- 24:10And that must have been how she tripped it down town her. Yeah,
- 24:14they can't hear us, Angel, but they willably go back. So well,
- 24:18it's uh pubbly place, all right. They'll run down maybe, but
- 24:22if the garden's out here, we're fixed up. I'm sure they shut her
- 24:32going quick, shut her. I am sure sure that's what it was we
- 24:34heard. I'm all right, you go on get up there and find out
- 24:40squiet. But George from Abby, it's so dark. I looked just like
- 24:45Christine must have been been. I'd never find anybody up there. There's nobody
- 24:49in this house, but ghost, didn't you know? Well, Angel,
- 24:52we're going to catch one before the ghost succeeds at murder. Well, yes,
- 25:07mister Valentine, I guess that's where I lost my heel, where I
- 25:10tripped on it. Yeah, you were coming along the path, Christine.
- 25:12He stepped off it tripped and rolled down the stone steps. Yes, you
- 25:15were out here walking with the summer house, but you didn't want anybody to
- 25:19know. See it was used to Who found you? What happened? You
- 25:26see him coming and run for the house. Yes, that's right, I
- 25:27ran. Only why did you step off the path? Well, there was
- 25:30a shovel or a rake or something lying across the path. Oh, I
- 25:33get it, it's not there now. I didn't look, mister Valentine.
- 25:40I did suspect something for a long time, but I didn't know what I
- 25:44was looking for. Oh why, or whether you could find anything back here
- 25:47that would show you how the ghost worked that night your aunt died. That's
- 25:49what I mean, whimpering crying ghosts, the thing with no substance that's supposed
- 25:56to appear and then float away. Aunt Betty told me where she expected to
- 26:00see it, mister Valentine. That rising to the bait. Already, mister
- 26:03Valentine, you're here here right in front of him, is daddy. I
- 26:07got to see you alone. Not I've got to Anything you have to say
- 26:11you can say right in front of her. Only say it's fast. It's
- 26:12about the ghost. I know it's about the ghost. Oh, it was
- 26:15only to impress and Gifford. You've got to realize that it wasn't to scare
- 26:18anybody. And that's what you're trying to say. I'm smart enough to figure
- 26:22that Ireland. Betty didn't fall from her window out of fright on seeing the
- 26:23ghost. She wasn't the type. So if it was you who played the
- 26:26ghost that night, lady, you know that's not what I'm trying to say.
- 26:30It was Iron and Betty. It was she herself who did it.
- 26:34Yes she did. Oh I know it sounds crazy, but she had too.
- 26:40She'd never been able to locate the ghost in the house, and she
- 26:44had bragged, and she didn't want Professor Gifford to be disappointed. That's why
- 26:48I didn't want him to get the house. He might have found out.
- 26:51Hey, now slow down. All your claiming as there isn't any ghost is
- 26:53that it there never has been one in this house. Only why then mister
- 26:57Valentine listened to me, He's better it was south here instead of being her
- 27:02room. You think she was mirding? Of course, I know she died
- 27:06before she ever got back to her room, and she was probably running just
- 27:08like Christine. Here was yes, he's the only if that's the case.
- 27:11Okay, okay, I'll take care of everything. Come on, Christine,
- 27:15head back to the house. See you later, Ms Daddy. Whole thing's
- 27:19pretty simple, I guess, isn't it. I don't understand at all any
- 27:22of it, don't you? You understand a good deal about the ghost the
- 27:26aunt that he told me? Sure, I was supposed to look. But
- 27:30nobody says they've ever heard it except you, the whimpering the crime? Christine?
- 27:36Were you here in the garden that night with your aunt? Is that
- 27:37when you thought you heard the crime? No? No, I've really heard
- 27:41it. Someone else? Were you hiding out here? Did you pretend to
- 27:45leave for Canada and then come back and hide and scare? Oh? Sure
- 27:48you don't believe in ghosts. You knew the little pixie'd be playing the part,
- 27:51so she was scared and ran just like you did down the path.
- 27:52Mister Valentine. Stop it. You don't understand. What's the matter. You're
- 27:56afraid to walk down this path? They go trip on something again, a
- 28:00rake that you might see when you're running. Only it's so dark I can't
- 28:02even see your hand in front of your face. No, it wasn't a
- 28:03rake. I don't know what it was. I know what it was,
- 28:06young lady. It wasn't anything, Yes it was. You're mixing me up,
- 28:08but I know there was, Christine, I said, some crimes are
- 28:12simple. They are after they've happened, because the guilty conscience does terrible,
- 28:15horrible things like stumbling over something. There isn't even there except a memory.
- 28:21But what was there when you made your old hand fall a rake, string,
- 28:25a wire? No, No, I didn't do it. I didn't
- 28:27then go on walk perfect accident, not so perfect a few months after it.
- 28:34When you get so scared, you get sick, so guilty, even
- 28:37try to kill someone else, nervous little old miss Dowdy because she's going to
- 28:41be suspicious. I didn't. I didn't push that shutter. Sure, go
- 28:45on, say it filled me in. I know it was you, all
- 28:48right, sister. You were the only one who thought Miss Dowdy was out
- 28:51walking with me. Nobody would have tried to kill Brooksy, but just by
- 28:55accident, Brooksy had told you that Dowdy and I were walking together. Stop
- 28:59stop it. I never believed it. They all did, but I never
- 29:11believed it. Crying, I don't hear anything, you can quick bring a
- 29:19woman crying. If it's not a real person, one of those others has
- 29:25to be the ghost. Go to the house. Yeah, yeah, you
- 29:37do hear something, don't you, Christine. You're the only one who does,
- 29:41the unbeliever, and yet the only one who's heard anything all evening or
- 29:47ever. But hasn't it occurred to you? There never was a ghost in
- 29:52this house until you made one the ghost of Ireland. Betty. You know
- 30:14there's something about crisp, tangy autumn weather that makes coffee time more enjoyable than

- 30:26delicious new way to cream coffee in instant powdered form. Pream is made from
- 30:30fresh sweet cream milk products and nothing else. Naturally, it has a rich,
- 30:36delicious flavor. What's more, prem is so convenient, so economical,

- 31:11you used coffee cream. So try prem in your coffee. R eam.
- 31:18The new way to cream it is to prem it. Well, Brooksy,
- 31:26that's what's known as getting a confession the hard way. Oh, the poor
- 31:30girl's an absolute greg poor girl. She killed her aunt n she Ireland petty
- 31:36second cousin to electric gun. There's the one I'd like to have known.
- 31:41Yeah, the Irish believe in anything, Oh, Brooksy, there is one
- 31:45to lie to them. You know when I told you to go back in
- 31:47the house there, when I ask you to make some noises to help me
- 31:48get the story out of the girl, Well, I submit any noises?
- 31:55H oh? I mean first there was a police on the phone, and
- 31:57then then mister used to skip following me. I mean you didn't thanks,
- 32:04did did you? You didn't hear anything? Did you whimpering or cry?
- 32:16No? Angel, No, of course not. No, I didn't hear
- 32:21anything. It was just just a new girl's imagination. That's all. Tonight's
- 32:39adventure of George Valentine has been brought to you, transcribed by Prime, the
- 32:45new dairy Miracle in instant powdered form. Try it you will prefer it to
- 32:49all other products for creaming your coffee. For Prime is the most delicious,
- 32:53convenient, thrifty way to cream your coffee ever discovered. Yes, the new
- 32:59way to cream it is to prive it. Let George Do It stars Alan
- 33:05Soleah as George, and tonight Lillian Byatt appeared as Brooksi. Let George Do
- 33:09It is written by David Victor and Jackson Gillis and directed by J. C.
- 33:13Lewis. Also heard in Tonight's cast where Jean Bates as Christine, Lance
- 33:17Rabanola's Dowdy, Benny Reuben as Gifford, and Howard Culver as ust Is.
- 33:21The music was composed and presented by George Wright. Tonight's performance concludes this current
- 33:27series, we hope you have enjoyed it. Your announcer has been George Cowel,
- 34:22welcome back. Somewhat spoke in to Let George do It. I should
- 34:27note that this episode was previously broadcast, even though we didn't hear it on
- 34:35this particular series, just because the original episode with Bob Bailey is missing,
- 34:43but it was originally broadcast March the twentieth of nineteen fifty, and you can
- 34:49notice that by Jackson Gillis's name on the scrap. By this time, Jackson
- 34:54Gillis had moved on to television, which was definitely paying a lot more,
- 35:00but the producers have let George do it. You know, you still had
- 35:02the script, so reuse definitely a good option. And perhaps that's why so
- 35:08many of the traditional titles we're ones that we have in the logs were ones
- 35:16that were used previously that we're used previously, like the pink Hurst, the
- 35:21house that Jack built, the motif is Murder, and Laura's House all were
- 35:28funds that are traditionally ascribed to these, you know, last ninety some episodes
- 35:34that are missing, even though we don't have any logs to back it up.
- 35:37And it makes sense because reusing scripts is economical. And we also heard
- 35:43a new Brooksie and Lillian Biath though the way that they meet it sound it
- 35:49sounds like she was joining the cast to fill in for this last episode for
- 35:53whoever been playing Brooksie, and again we don't know it. This late part
- 35:59of the Golden Age radio, particularly with this show is just not very well
- 36:02documented at all. One other piece of trivia I had when the Digital Deli
- 36:09was talking about the relative size of Olan Sulea was mentioned also in reference to
- 36:15Bob Bailey, who, despite his great voice, just did not make you
- 36:21know, was not seen as the physically imposing enough character to be able to
- 36:27carry the act onto television. Kind of the opposite of the problem that William
- 36:31Conrad ran into on gun Smoke, where he was thought to be too fat.
- 36:38But a terrific voice from both actors that you know, you obviously didn't
- 36:43think. Now, this guy's just a little to you know, you didn't
- 36:45think anything from the voice. You know, Olan Soul of course, for
- 36:50many years a voice of Batman, and it called to mind Kevin Conroy,
- 36:53who is kind of the modern voice most associated with Batman from his years on
- 37:00the Batman animated series as well as on the Justice League series. And he
- 37:07also, you know, it's funny, he has the exact same thing.
- 37:12It looks very you know, very skinny. You would not think, you
- 37:15know, this is the guy who's an action hero. But he's got the
- 37:19ability and he's got that voice quality that he's just able to really sell you
- 37:23on Batman. So voice acting it really is. It's I think, a
- 37:29wonderful way where people are able to as actors to overcome some of the superficiality
- 37:37that visual media often introduces. Well, now we turn to listener comments and
- 37:43feedback, and I received one regarding episode zero eight nine three, Let Georgia
- 37:47do at the dead of Night. I heard that, and Justin Rits,
- 37:51I heard this on another old time radio podcast, but it had a different
- 37:54name, A Key to Murder. Do you know this episode had any alternate
- 37:59title or the episode mislabeled? Well, Justin, as far as I can
- 38:05tell, it was mislabeled. Again, I do on shows where the digital
- 38:09della FTP dot com where they have along, I kind of used that as
- 38:15definitive because they do a lot of They do a lot of researches to two
- 38:19personal operations, but when they research a show, they do their absolute best.
- 38:23And yeah, the title we have for that is correct. Also,
- 38:30we received a couple of comments on our little sway into detective science fiction airing
- 38:38an episode of X minus one but also really was a detective story in sci
- 38:45fi setting. Joan emails and I enjoyed X minus one protective memetry mimicry very
- 38:51interesting. I like slapstick comedy, so I could just imagine him walking into
- 38:55a tree or bouncing off one. I could just see it happening. I
- 38:59like part about his rubbers stuck in the mud and his comment about them and
- 39:05how much women will pay for mud bass while he was walking through it.
- 39:07If he didn't watch it himself, he could be stuck in the mud along
- 39:10with his rubbers. This is really a comedy. Thank you for sharing this
- 39:15with us. It is a gym and I played it a few times now.
- 39:17I believe I found a new series to listen to. If they're all
- 39:21like this one, well, thanks so much for your comment. Jone.
- 39:25And it definitely had that comedic element going for it. It was not approp
- 39:31It was not a episode that took itself seriously. I will say that not
- 39:37all episodes of X Minush one or its companion series to Max Dimension X all
- 39:45that are as lighthearted as that. Certainly a lot of the it was.
- 39:52It's classic science fiction, so there's a lot of weird situations. But there
- 39:57was also at that time, you know, scerns about the future of humanity
- 40:02and Zero Hour. Of course, is one of their very early scripts,
- 40:09and there's not a whole lot of humor in that, but there are some
- 40:13funny episodes and it's one that's definitely worth listening. And when I have the
- 40:19opportunity on the premium side, because for the both the premium side and APP
- 40:23I try to play episodes of our stars in programs that aren't detective shows,
- 40:34so you can kind of see their the depths of their talent. And so
- 40:38when I happen across an X minus one or Dimension X with one of our
- 40:45actors in it, I definitely have a strong tendency and desire to want to
- 40:51play that for you. Right, well, that will do it for today.
- 40:55We will be back tomorrow with Sherlock Holmes. This, of course,
- 41:00our last episode of Let George Do It. Really has been a wonderful series,
- 41:07a lot of variety, a lot of twist, a lot of turns.
- 41:09I hope you've enjoyed it as much as I have, or even more
- 41:14than that. We will be back next Wednesday with the third and fourth part
- 41:22of next week's Johnny Doaller Mystery, which we'll have Bob Bailey back on Wednesday,
- 41:27and in the meantime, follow us on Twitter at Radio Detectives, we'd
- 41:31really appreciate it if you'd rate the show on iTunes or about twenty six ratings
- 41:36shy of two hundred. But from Boise, Idaho, this is your host,
- 41:40Adam graham Son and off
