Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome into today's show.
- 0:01Speaker 2: I'm Cameron Parker filling in for Greg Way, who is
- 0:03Speaker 2: wheels up to Lexington, Kentucky for Texas Baseball this weekend,
- 0:10Speaker 2: the Texas Longhorn second ranked team in the country, on
- 0:14Speaker 2: the road against the Kentucky Wildcats in an SEC Conference matchup.
- 0:18Speaker 2: So Creig Way and Keith Morland heading out to the
- 0:22Speaker 2: Bluegrass State and they will be joining us later on
- 0:24Speaker 2: here in today's program, hopefully the three o'clock hour, we
- 0:26Speaker 2: will visit with Craig Way and Keith Moreland. Of course
- 0:30Speaker 2: we're going to talk Texas Baseball. We're going to talk
- 0:34Speaker 2: the Masters where Scotty Scheffler just one shot back from
- 0:38Speaker 2: Justin Rose atop the leaderboard right now as Scotty looks
- 0:42Speaker 2: to go back to back in return to Butler Cabin
- 0:48Speaker 2: with the Green Jacket will give you update its on
- 0:51Speaker 2: so far the first round and all the ongoings.
- 0:54Speaker 1: We're going to talk with CJ.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Fogel from on Texas Football later on today's show, actually
- 0:59Speaker 2: coming up next as he was down talking with Arch
- 1:03Speaker 2: Manning and Trey Wisner and many other Jax's Longhorne's football players.
- 1:09Speaker 2: After I believe would practice number nine today maybe number eight,
- 1:13Speaker 2: but there was a local availability made with players, So
- 1:15Speaker 2: we're gonna get CJ's thoughts on that, get his thoughts
- 1:17Speaker 2: on what else is new surrounding Texas spring football, some
- 1:22Speaker 2: positional battles, some latest injuries, some new numbers, all that
- 1:26Speaker 2: good stuff and more. Of course, last night was Lucas's
- 1:31Speaker 2: return to Dallas, so very emotional return. The Lakers would
- 1:36Speaker 2: defeat the Dallas Mavericks I think one twelve to ninety seven,
- 1:40Speaker 2: Luca with forty five points in the victory. Just a
- 1:44Speaker 2: typical Luca dunch It's performance. I know Mavericks fans were
- 1:49Speaker 2: not surprised. We're gonna hear from Luca. He teared up
- 1:53Speaker 2: in the pregame ceremony when they played a tribute video
- 1:56Speaker 2: that was dedicated to them. CJ is also a Dallas kid,
- 1:59Speaker 2: so we're going to get his thoughts on on lucas
- 2:01Speaker 2: return as well as always inconceivable on this Thursday, despite
- 2:06Speaker 2: no Craig Way, and hopefully we're going to hear from
- 2:09Speaker 2: those Texas football players and even maybe Texas basketball player
- 2:13Speaker 2: Rory Harmon, who did announce yesterday that she will return
- 2:17Speaker 2: for her final season in Austin at or Texas lost
- 2:20Speaker 2: to South Carolina in the Final four, so a big
- 2:24Speaker 2: return for Fix Shaeffer in the Texas Longhorns, who had
- 2:30Speaker 2: three players recognized on Senior Night, Rory Harmon, Taylor Jones,
- 2:34Speaker 2: and Alea Moore. Now I believe Taylor Jones is no
- 2:37Speaker 2: longer has any availability left, but I do believe that
- 2:41Speaker 2: Leah Moore does as well, but no decision yet from
- 2:45Speaker 2: her camp. Still not sure what's on deck for Leah Moore,
- 2:48Speaker 2: but we do know that Rory Harmon will be returning
- 2:52Speaker 2: to the Texas Longhorns this next season, So a big, big,
- 2:57Speaker 2: big return for Fix Shaffer or so Leah Crump, one
- 3:00Speaker 2: of the talented high school players in the country, will
- 3:03Speaker 2: be joining Texas next season as they look to run
- 3:05Speaker 2: it back in the Southeastern Conference and maybe make that
- 3:09Speaker 2: Final four thing consistent. As always, we would love to
- 3:15Speaker 2: hear from your thoughts on today's show. Of course, text
- 3:17Speaker 2: to word Texas to eight one, five three zero, followed
- 3:20Speaker 2: by your message hear your thoughts on maybe the Masters,
- 3:24Speaker 2: on anything else as well, And of course, if you
- 3:26Speaker 2: want to join the show, you can leave a message
- 3:29Speaker 2: on the free iHeart radio app using the talk back feature.
- 3:33Speaker 2: It's the best way to listen to this show, to
- 3:35Speaker 2: the morning kickoff, the best way to listen to Texas
- 3:38Speaker 2: baseball in Texas Softball. All right, let's go ahead and
- 3:43Speaker 2: take a look at the master's leaderboard right now. We're
- 3:46Speaker 2: actually a familiar name atop the leader board, but he
- 3:50Speaker 2: has not won at Augusta yet, even though he's been
- 3:53Speaker 2: in contention many many times, including ten years ago when
- 3:56Speaker 2: he finished runner up to Jordan's speed. That is Justin Rose,
- 3:59Speaker 2: who is in who went in with a thirty one
- 4:04Speaker 2: Holy Cal five hundred par for the first three to nine,
- 4:08Speaker 2: so for the first nine holes, including three straight birdies
- 4:12Speaker 2: on one, two and three, made birdies on eight and
- 4:16Speaker 2: nine and currently sits at five under par all alone.
- 4:19Speaker 2: We've had a couple players get the four under par today,
- 4:23Speaker 2: including Steven Jaeger, including Aaron Ry, they would end up
- 4:26Speaker 2: falling back down. Then finally Terrell Hatton got the four
- 4:29Speaker 2: under par, then Kate Corey Connors, then Justin Rose and
- 4:32Speaker 2: Rose went to five, and then Scotty Scheffler who just
- 4:35Speaker 2: made a long bird he put at sixteen. So currently
- 4:37Speaker 2: Justin Rose leading the way at five under par, and
- 4:41Speaker 2: then a three way tie in second place, Corey Connors,
- 4:43Speaker 2: who's actually the clubhouse leader after this first round with
- 4:47Speaker 2: a sixty eight. He shot four under, Scotty Scheffler who
- 4:50Speaker 2: is on the seventeenth poll at four under par, and
- 4:53Speaker 2: then Terrell Hatton who just hit his shot on the
- 4:56Speaker 2: sixteenth par three to about twenty to thirty feet. That's
- 4:59Speaker 2: a look to joined Justin Rose. Well, actually not, because
- 5:02Speaker 2: Justin Rose just made Bertie on the tenth hole, folks.
- 5:05Speaker 2: So Justin Rose has now made three straight birdies on eight,
- 5:09Speaker 2: nine and ten and ten's a tough hole, eleven footer
- 5:13Speaker 2: for Bertie.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Justin Rose all alone at six under par.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Now, remember it was the last season, the two thousand
- 5:21Speaker 2: and four twenty twenty four to twenty three. It was
- 5:24Speaker 2: twenty twenty three Justin Rose came out, was your first
- 5:27Speaker 2: round leader. He ended up shooting. That was the year
- 5:29Speaker 2: John Rahm would win. But Justin Rose actually the first
- 5:32Speaker 2: round shot up. No, Actually it may have been twenty
- 5:35Speaker 2: twenty two, So was three years ago that Justin Rose
- 5:39Speaker 2: was your first round leader. It may have been even
- 5:42Speaker 2: longer than that, but Rose has come out before and
- 5:45Speaker 2: has climbed the leaderboard.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Yeah, it was twenty twenty one.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Sorry shot up sixty five, led by four shots over
- 5:52Speaker 2: Brian Harmon, an eventual winner at deckie Matt Siama, so
- 5:55Speaker 2: not surprised to see the englishman. Justin Rose shows some
- 5:59Speaker 2: signs the life here, but six under par. Currently he's
- 6:02Speaker 2: got a two shot lead over Corey Connor Scotty Scheffler
- 6:05Speaker 2: into Lhattan. But of course Rose still lots of golf
- 6:08Speaker 2: left on the golf course. So Scotty, by the way
- 6:12Speaker 2: at four hundred is just playing your typical Scotty Scheffler
- 6:15Speaker 2: type round.
- 6:18Speaker 1: No bogey so far on the scoreboard.
- 6:20Speaker 2: For Scotty, made birdie at two of the par five,
- 6:24Speaker 2: made birdie on four with a very long birdie putt
- 6:26Speaker 2: from about thirty forty to fifty feet to go. The
- 6:31Speaker 2: two under par ended up making birdie on the par
- 6:34Speaker 2: five eighth hole, so made the turn at three under par.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Would go through aim and Corner without any noise, would
- 6:42Speaker 2: go par par park, including barring that thirteenth hole.
- 6:46Speaker 1: The par five end.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Up making a par on the fifteenth hole, another part five,
- 6:50Speaker 2: but on the sixteenth hole just knocked down a long
- 6:54Speaker 2: birdie putt to get the four under par, So Scotty
- 6:57Speaker 2: Scheffler is at four under part despite no birding two
- 7:00Speaker 2: of the easier holes on the course. He's now on
- 7:03Speaker 2: the seventeenth hole as he is about one hundred and
- 7:08Speaker 2: thirty nine yards away from the green, an absolute smoke
- 7:11Speaker 2: of a drive down the seventeenth side, left side of
- 7:14Speaker 2: the fair away.
- 7:15Speaker 1: So he's in the first cut there.
- 7:16Speaker 2: But we'll have a short iron into a back hole
- 7:20Speaker 2: pain location with two holes left on the day. And again,
- 7:24Speaker 2: Scotty Scheffler, if you look at his results in the
- 7:27Speaker 2: two years that he won the Masters. In fact, going
- 7:30Speaker 2: back to the last twenty years, guys eighteen of the
- 7:34Speaker 2: last twenty winners at Augusta were in the top ten
- 7:39Speaker 2: after the first day of the After the first day
- 7:42Speaker 2: of the Masters, So do you want to know who's
- 7:45Speaker 2: probably going to win the tournament, look at the top
- 7:47Speaker 2: ten the leader board. Only the only two guys who
- 7:49Speaker 2: were able to win it outside the top ten after
- 7:52Speaker 2: Thursday's round tiger Woods. Tiger Woods last year, Scotty was
- 7:56Speaker 2: second tut a sixty six, one shot behind Bryson, of course,
- 8:00Speaker 2: guy who would go.
- 8:00Speaker 1: On to win.
- 8:01Speaker 2: And then in two thousand and twenty two, the first
- 8:05Speaker 2: year that Scotty won the Masters. After his first round
- 8:09Speaker 2: he was at let's see Ty for third the sixty nine,
- 8:12Speaker 2: two shots back. So Scotty is in that fantastic place again.
- 8:16Speaker 2: You want to be in that top ten, so kind
- 8:19Speaker 2: of looking at like you want to be, Oh, let's
- 8:22Speaker 2: see you want to You probably want to at least
- 8:23Speaker 2: be in.
- 8:24Speaker 1: With a two underd round of the day.
- 8:26Speaker 2: So you're looking at a seventy seventy or lower to
- 8:29Speaker 2: be in an any sword of contention, possibly for winning
- 8:32Speaker 2: the Masters this season. Jordan speak by the way now
- 8:35Speaker 2: putting on the sixteenth hole a long birdie putt that
- 8:39Speaker 2: just grazes the side of the hole and rolls by
- 8:41Speaker 2: about six or seven yards. He's had a very speed
- 8:44Speaker 2: like day. Actually at one point was only one shot
- 8:47Speaker 2: back of the lead. But he's been up and down
- 8:49Speaker 2: and all over the course. At Augusta ended up making
- 8:52Speaker 2: birdie on the first hole, poured in a thirty footer
- 8:56Speaker 2: believe it or not, on the first hole to get
- 8:58Speaker 2: to one under par. They would end up making par
- 9:01Speaker 2: on the second hole. We miss about a seven footer
- 9:04Speaker 2: for birdie. On the third hole that slightly drivable par
- 9:08Speaker 2: three would hit a beautiful approach shot to about seven feet,
- 9:11Speaker 2: would make the birdie putt, so he was two under.
- 9:14Speaker 2: On the fourth hole, par three, ended up hitting his
- 9:17Speaker 2: his first shot to about ninety two feet away with
- 9:21Speaker 2: three putt for bogey. Would make a birdie on the
- 9:24Speaker 2: eighth hole to get back to two unders. So Speeds
- 9:28Speaker 2: would make the turn at two under par, one shot
- 9:31Speaker 2: back from Scotti Scheffer for the lead, and would end
- 9:33Speaker 2: up making double bogie from the fairway on the tenth hole,
- 9:37Speaker 2: got too much golf ball out of his bunker shot,
- 9:40Speaker 2: would hit his fourth shot to about seven feet. We
- 9:43Speaker 2: missed the putt for bogie, ends up making double. Would
- 9:47Speaker 2: go see the eleventh hole that downhill left to right
- 9:50Speaker 2: par four, that's an absolute man of the hole, would
- 9:53Speaker 2: make a thirty footer for birdie. So now he's packed
- 9:55Speaker 2: back to one under par and then would play Amen's
- 10:00Speaker 2: or will play the rest of amon corner two over
- 10:01Speaker 2: part including boging the twelfth hole went long and left,
- 10:05Speaker 2: and then on the par five to thirteenth hole, would
- 10:08Speaker 2: hit his second shot out of bounds, would make bogie
- 10:11Speaker 2: on that and they would three pot in the fourteenth
- 10:14Speaker 2: greef for a bogey.
- 10:14Speaker 1: So he went bogey bogey bogey.
- 10:16Speaker 2: He just made birdie on the par five to fifteenth
- 10:19Speaker 2: hole to get back to one over par, but right
- 10:22Speaker 2: now has a lengthy par putt on the sixteenth hole
- 10:25Speaker 2: to remain at one over par. He is currently tied
- 10:29Speaker 2: for four youth and is coming off a Master's appearance
- 10:32Speaker 2: last season where he missed the cut. So Speith, who
- 10:35Speaker 2: playing in his eleventh Masters, has only missed the cut twice,
- 10:40Speaker 2: so he's trying to keep his hopes alive of winning
- 10:43Speaker 2: a second green jacket. More than come, including c J.
- 10:46Speaker 2: Vogel up next year on the Craigways Show. Of course,
- 10:49Speaker 2: you can listen to us free on the iHeart Radio app.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Just getting started to hear on this Thursday afternoon. Cameron
- 10:55Speaker 2: Parker filling in for Craig Way, who will be joining
- 10:58Speaker 2: us from Lexington, Kentucky in about an hour or so,
- 11:02Speaker 2: but joining us now from on Texas Football Course Texas
- 11:05Speaker 2: Football insider and recruiting analysts.
- 11:08Speaker 3: CJ.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Fogel from on Texas Football. You can follow him on
- 11:11Speaker 2: Twitter at CJ Fogal Underscore OTF. CJ thanks for joining
- 11:15Speaker 2: us in first off, I want to know how are
- 11:18Speaker 2: you doing emotionally after seeing Luca Doant just returned to
- 11:22Speaker 2: Dallas last night, but playing in a Lakers uniform.
- 11:27Speaker 4: Yeah, that sucks.
- 11:28Speaker 5: Man.
- 11:28Speaker 6: That wasn't fun for anybody. I mean, just watching him
- 11:30Speaker 6: watch his tribute video.
- 11:33Speaker 4: I took it out of me.
- 11:34Speaker 5: Man.
- 11:34Speaker 6: I didn't like it. I didn't like it one bit.
- 11:35Speaker 6: I still can't believe the trade happened. But you know,
- 11:38Speaker 6: he's with Lebron now, so I'm runing for the two
- 11:40Speaker 6: of them to go get a championship together.
- 11:43Speaker 2: So today, Trey Wisner and Arch Manning visited with the media.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Today.
- 11:46Speaker 2: You were out there just your overall first impressions. It's
- 11:50Speaker 2: the first time we've seen players speak to the media
- 11:53Speaker 2: outside of coach Sarkisian. What was your general takeaway from
- 11:56Speaker 2: from both Arch and Trey.
- 11:59Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:59Speaker 6: I thought Ars handled it well. I mean he's spoken
- 12:02Speaker 6: to the media before, you know, in terms of, you know,
- 12:05Speaker 6: some post game stuff, but for him to be QB
- 12:08Speaker 6: one now it's part of the job, and I thought
- 12:10Speaker 6: he handled it very well. There's some jokes in there.
- 12:12Speaker 6: Until you know, are good friend Kirk Boles. He could
- 12:15Speaker 6: hook him up with some vor you out of his
- 12:17Speaker 6: new NIL deal, so you know.
- 12:19Speaker 4: There's some laughs.
- 12:20Speaker 6: He was lighthearted, but at the end of the day,
- 12:22Speaker 6: he knows it's the business. He knows this is part
- 12:24Speaker 6: of the job, and you know, I think this is
- 12:27Speaker 6: going to be something that he handles very well throughout
- 12:29Speaker 6: his Texas career.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Looking at Trey Wisner in this Texas running back room,
- 12:33Speaker 2: of course, Christian Clarks CJ. Baxter had went down with
- 12:36Speaker 2: season ending injuries. It's a running back room that will
- 12:39Speaker 2: be without Jaydon Blue, of course, who.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Declared for the NFL Draft.
- 12:43Speaker 2: How do you think this running back room is taking
- 12:46Speaker 2: shape about halfway through springball.
- 12:49Speaker 6: Yeah, it's gonna be interesting to see STJ. Baxter figures
- 12:52Speaker 6: back into this group. Of course, the big thing with
- 12:54Speaker 6: this unit in twenty twenty five is you know, you
- 12:57Speaker 6: got five healthy bodies right now. That wasn't the case
- 13:01Speaker 6: last year. Of course, you had your two injuries in
- 13:03Speaker 6: the spring with CJ. Baxer and Christian Clark, and Delton Gardner,
- 13:06Speaker 6: who they picked up late in the portal joined the
- 13:09Speaker 6: squad and you know very quickly was out from the
- 13:11Speaker 6: season as well. So Texas realistically last year was only
- 13:14Speaker 6: dealing with about two and a half to three and
- 13:16Speaker 6: a half running backs when you consider Ryan Nibblett in
- 13:19Speaker 6: that room. So right now, the overarching theme is plenty
- 13:22Speaker 6: of bodies, plenty of different skill sets and trading. Weisner
- 13:25Speaker 6: is the one leading the charge. So who becomes your
- 13:27Speaker 6: pass pro guy, who becomes your short yard this guy,
- 13:29Speaker 6: who becomes your goal line guy, and who becomes a
- 13:31Speaker 6: guy that you rely on out of the backfield in
- 13:34Speaker 6: the passing game all up for grabs right now. But
- 13:36Speaker 6: it's going to be Trey Wiser's I guess leadership and
- 13:40Speaker 6: experience that leads the charge going into the summer.
- 13:44Speaker 2: Is that a spot you think Sark and the offense
- 13:47Speaker 2: may end up targeting in the transfer portal this year?
- 13:51Speaker 6: You know, it's interesting if the right guy approaches. You know,
- 13:55Speaker 6: if the right guy comes into the portal again, Sarcasian
- 13:58Speaker 6: has been proven to to go out there and find
- 14:01Speaker 6: anybody that will help this team, and even at positions
- 14:04Speaker 6: that maybe weren't expected out of the portal originally. I
- 14:08Speaker 6: think right now you've got plenty of guys that are
- 14:10Speaker 6: coming along.
- 14:11Speaker 3: Of course, Christian Parks.
- 14:12Speaker 4: Looked really good.
- 14:13Speaker 6: We've heard a lot of positives about James finding the
- 14:15Speaker 6: true freshman that's been on campus for about four months now,
- 14:18Speaker 6: so We'll see what they do. But I think this
- 14:20Speaker 6: room is pretty healthy, especially if a CJ.
- 14:23Speaker 3: Baxter returns fully healthy.
- 14:25Speaker 2: Another room that's dealing with some injuries the receiver room
- 14:27Speaker 2: with Ryan Wingo. He's unavailable in spring ball hamstring injury,
- 14:32Speaker 2: DeAndre More not participating in spring ball. So it's opened
- 14:36Speaker 2: the door for some of the younger guys to come
- 14:38Speaker 2: in and develop a relationship and that chemistry with Archie Manning,
- 14:42Speaker 2: who is some of the guys so far that have
- 14:44Speaker 2: been getting a lot of reps in spring ball, CJ.
- 14:46Speaker 2: That you're keeping an eye on that may end up
- 14:49Speaker 2: playing a big role in this Texas offense come fall.
- 14:52Speaker 6: Yeah, the big man that we've heard so far is
- 14:54Speaker 6: Parker Livingstone, and I'm not sure if that's a surprised
- 14:57Speaker 6: the many who got to see him out of high school.
- 14:59Speaker 4: Of course, was healthiest senior year.
- 15:01Speaker 6: We got to see him for some mop up duty
- 15:03Speaker 6: last year. But look, if Trey Wiser has given you
- 15:05Speaker 6: the nickname white Chocolate, I think he got a roll
- 15:08Speaker 6: with it. Of course, Archie Manning had some praise for him.
- 15:11Speaker 6: The two live together, so I know that there is
- 15:13Speaker 6: a good string of success with a former Texas quarterback
- 15:17Speaker 6: and wide receiver that lived together way back when, so
- 15:20Speaker 6: that's a good sign. Jamie French, Cleek Lockett, they come
- 15:23Speaker 6: up as well. But Dayla McCutcheon, maybe you know that
- 15:26Speaker 6: guy coming into the twenty twenty five season, You know,
- 15:30Speaker 6: maybe you weren't expecting to hear a lot about him,
- 15:33Speaker 6: but this absence of DeAndre Moore has really allowed him
- 15:37Speaker 6: to take some of these reps. And we've heard Sarkisian
- 15:40Speaker 6: talk about him, our T Fanning's spoken about him. He's
- 15:43Speaker 6: turning head So far.
- 15:44Speaker 2: It's going to be a Texas secondary that will look different,
- 15:47Speaker 2: both on the sidelines and on the field. So many
- 15:49Speaker 2: new names coaching wise, of course, twenty Kisa stepping In
- 15:53Speaker 2: returning to Austin, Terry Joseph no longer with the program
- 15:58Speaker 2: then also a lot of big names to part for
- 16:00Speaker 2: the NFL draft, of course, Shatty Baron who will likely
- 16:02Speaker 2: be a first round draft.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Pick, who defensively cej.
- 16:07Speaker 2: How different do you think the secondary will will look
- 16:10Speaker 2: in terms of the style of play and is there
- 16:12Speaker 2: going to be do you think maybe a grace period
- 16:15Speaker 2: for this Texas defense to kind of get back to
- 16:18Speaker 2: how they were defensively? The secondary last season with so
- 16:20Speaker 2: many new names and so many new coaches.
- 16:23Speaker 6: Yeah, it's gonna be interesting because I think everything kind
- 16:26Speaker 6: of builds off of what Texas utilizes up front with
- 16:29Speaker 6: that pass For us, of course, I think I was
- 16:31Speaker 6: a big benefactor last year with the secondary.
- 16:34Speaker 3: But again no Makouba, no John A. Barron.
- 16:38Speaker 6: Those two were really really good combined for ten picks.
- 16:41Speaker 6: But I love this cornerback room and sharpstout on Tuesday,
- 16:43Speaker 6: this is the best looking room in his locker room.
- 16:47Speaker 6: Happened on That's really interesting. Of course, we know Jalen
- 16:50Speaker 6: Gilbo has played some meaningful football. Malik Muhammad again a
- 16:54Speaker 6: guy who's played a lot of outside corner we kind
- 16:57Speaker 6: of expect him to be, you know, sett in own
- 17:00Speaker 6: at the moment. But how does the competition for that
- 17:03Speaker 6: second corner stock go with Gilbo, with the Kobe Black,
- 17:06Speaker 6: with the Sampana Wilson. You know, of course five star
- 17:09Speaker 6: Kate Phillips, who is very talented in his own right.
- 17:11Speaker 4: Can he make it flash?
- 17:12Speaker 6: So you got four guys that I think are all
- 17:15Speaker 6: super talented and looking exactly like what Pyxris wants at
- 17:18Speaker 6: its cornerback room. A lot of length, a lot of speed.
- 17:21Speaker 6: That's that allows for a lot more mando man than
- 17:24Speaker 6: we've seen in previous years, which only helps that pass
- 17:27Speaker 6: rush when you're able to unleash another Anthony Hill or
- 17:29Speaker 6: trade more Brad Spence from the second level.
- 17:32Speaker 2: And we've heard Sark also talked about, you know, the
- 17:34Speaker 2: key defensive line takes they took in their French report thing.
- 17:38Speaker 2: They had three new buys of course, almost replacing that
- 17:40Speaker 2: entire defensive line. How how how those guys look so
- 17:46Speaker 2: far so far in springball? CJ of course, I mean,
- 17:49Speaker 2: you know how big of a role the defensive line
- 17:50Speaker 2: is going to play in having a successful defense throughout
- 17:53Speaker 2: the season.
- 17:54Speaker 6: Yeah, that still might be a working progress for now.
- 17:57Speaker 6: You know, we're gonna have to wait and see just
- 17:59Speaker 6: how this grew gels together. Of course, Alex January is
- 18:02Speaker 6: expected to take a massive leap forward into that main rotation.
- 18:05Speaker 6: I'm expecting him to be a starter for Texas come
- 18:07Speaker 6: the fall. Cold Rivard that other sturdy, just consistent piece
- 18:13Speaker 6: on over the nose. Travis Shaw a bit limited right now,
- 18:17Speaker 6: and he's been dealing with a lingering knee issue as well,
- 18:19Speaker 6: So I definitely think Texas is still going to be
- 18:22Speaker 6: active in the portal for defensive lineman. The real question
- 18:25Speaker 6: is how can am run Charles or how can it
- 18:27Speaker 6: just Cya Sharman too early?
- 18:29Speaker 3: En?
- 18:29Speaker 6: Really, how can they move forward and start to become
- 18:32Speaker 6: guys that are relied upon in the fall, because Texas
- 18:35Speaker 6: is going to need just about everybody in this room
- 18:37Speaker 6: to step up if they're planning on playing thirteen, fourteen
- 18:39Speaker 6: to fifteen games again.
- 18:41Speaker 4: In twenty twenty.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Five, we saw Texas at a punter and the transfer portal.
- 18:46Speaker 1: What about a kicker after spring ball?
- 18:49Speaker 3: CJ.
- 18:51Speaker 6: Yeah, I know that's been a hot topic for Texas fans.
- 18:54Speaker 6: So far, I've not heard a whole lot in terms
- 18:56Speaker 6: of what Texas might do when the spring portal window
- 18:59Speaker 6: opens up. Of course, it's been Willstone, It's been Vert
- 19:02Speaker 6: Auburn battling it out again this spring. I'd put my
- 19:05Speaker 6: money on who would be kicking this weekend trid Texas
- 19:07Speaker 6: have a game, it would be Vert Auburn.
- 19:09Speaker 4: Yeah, I know it.
- 19:10Speaker 6: TEXTA fans might have grimaced a little bit here in that,
- 19:13Speaker 6: so we'll see what they end up doing. But I
- 19:15Speaker 6: would be a little bit surprised if if there's a
- 19:19Speaker 6: whole lot of movement there.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Talking with Cjfogo from on Texas Football. CJ, we saw
- 19:23Speaker 2: report come on from on three Sports, and if you
- 19:27Speaker 2: saw this maybe ten years ago, your head would spin.
- 19:29Speaker 2: But this shows you kind of where the landscape of
- 19:31Speaker 2: college football is right now is And the tweet was
- 19:33Speaker 2: at Tennessee and Nico Iamaliava the volunteers quarterback are an
- 19:38Speaker 2: active contract negotiations ahead of the twenty and twenty five season.
- 19:43Speaker 2: That statement alone is so bizarre, but it kind of
- 19:46Speaker 2: speaks to where we're at right.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Now in college football.
- 19:49Speaker 2: The other side of it, I think is Arch Manning
- 19:52Speaker 2: the most popular recruit probably in the history of college football.
- 19:56Speaker 2: All his stories seem to be about him staying an
- 19:58Speaker 2: extra year.
- 19:59Speaker 1: So I think CJ.
- 20:01Speaker 2: All the concern about Arch and his his popularity and
- 20:05Speaker 2: you know, there's no way he's going to stay at Texas.
- 20:07Speaker 1: He's not going to stay behind Queen yours.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Well, here we are, he's on campus and you talked
- 20:11Speaker 2: about his maturity.
- 20:13Speaker 1: We've heard Sar talk about his competitive spirit.
- 20:16Speaker 2: It seems like Arch Manning, despite the last name, despite
- 20:19Speaker 2: the talent, is kind of in his own class in
- 20:22Speaker 2: terms of how he handles himself compared to other quarterbacks
- 20:26Speaker 2: who are in contract negotiations here in springball.
- 20:31Speaker 6: Yeah, it's certainly a luxury that Texas is lucky to
- 20:35Speaker 6: be in. Right when it comes to not having to
- 20:37Speaker 6: deal with I don't want to call it a headache,
- 20:39Speaker 6: but that extra attention that comes with the media headlines
- 20:43Speaker 6: there and of course arch Will will garner his own attention.
- 20:46Speaker 6: Of course that's to be expected. But we heard it
- 20:49Speaker 6: firsthand today at the media availability. Ar said, Yeah, I've
- 20:52Speaker 6: only ever wanted to be at textis you know everything
- 20:54Speaker 6: else on the portal noise, you know, all the talk
- 20:57Speaker 6: about me potentially leaving now, you know, good things.
- 21:02Speaker 4: I just wanted to wait this one out.
- 21:03Speaker 6: I wanted to be at Texas and you know, sometimes
- 21:07Speaker 6: things are worth waiting for. And I think that speaks
- 21:10Speaker 6: a lot to his maturity. But also, you know, this
- 21:12Speaker 6: is the guy that goes out in the city of Austin,
- 21:14Speaker 6: gets recognized everywhere, says he wants to just be a
- 21:16Speaker 6: college kid. He wants to do that here in Austin.
- 21:19Speaker 6: I think touch of fans should be very appreciative of that,
- 21:22Speaker 6: and I know that they're glad to be here.
- 21:24Speaker 3: That that's the case.
- 21:25Speaker 6: So it's something that Texas is very fortunate to be
- 21:28Speaker 6: in a position to not have to worry about quarterback,
- 21:31Speaker 6: leaving a quarterback, dealing with potential portal buyouts, or what's
- 21:35Speaker 6: to come with this world of AML. So certainly a
- 21:39Speaker 6: luxury to the Horns.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Here two weeks away from the NFL Draft, the first round,
- 21:44Speaker 2: how many Texas Longgorns are you expecting to see go
- 21:48Speaker 2: on opening day?
- 21:50Speaker 6: On opening Day, I think the number three. I would
- 21:53Speaker 6: be a little surprised that there's more than that. I'd
- 21:56Speaker 6: be even more surprised if there were less than that.
- 21:58Speaker 6: Kelvin Banks, Mackew Golden, jot A barn And I tweeted
- 22:02Speaker 6: it while I was at the combine. You know, Matthew Bolton,
- 22:04Speaker 6: you can go ahead and book your plane ticket to
- 22:06Speaker 6: Green Bay to go shape the Commission's hand on day one.
- 22:09Speaker 3: And he did just that.
- 22:11Speaker 4: But John A.
- 22:12Speaker 6: Baron Kelvin Banks, I think there are definitely lots to
- 22:14Speaker 6: go in the top twenty five or so. And that
- 22:17Speaker 6: was said, a new Texas record for first round packs
- 22:19Speaker 6: in a singles draft, and that's something I think Texas
- 22:22Speaker 6: tran should be very celebratory about as well.
- 22:24Speaker 2: It seems like when you were kind of hovering around
- 22:26Speaker 2: that third round mark a little bit surprising to me, CJ.
- 22:29Speaker 2: But what do you credit to maybe his drop in
- 22:33Speaker 2: falling down the mock draft SERI? And where do you
- 22:36Speaker 2: end up seeing him land in terms of what round
- 22:38Speaker 2: he will be drafted in.
- 22:41Speaker 6: You know, it's pretty interesting with Quinn.
- 22:43Speaker 3: Of course your nails.
- 22:45Speaker 6: He's really really good within twenty yards and then that lingering,
- 22:49Speaker 6: testy beat ball has just continued to.
- 22:52Speaker 4: Be a pain for him.
- 22:53Speaker 6: And I think that that's something that when you look
- 22:56Speaker 6: at how these NFL scouts and executives are judging, is
- 23:01Speaker 6: you know, play style is that he doesn't create a
- 23:04Speaker 6: whole lot with his legs, so he has to be
- 23:06Speaker 6: good throwing.
- 23:07Speaker 4: The ball down the field.
- 23:08Speaker 6: Well, if he's not doing both, look, he's super good
- 23:11Speaker 6: at that the NFL, or that you can separate yourself
- 23:14Speaker 6: with in the NFL, And that's kind of the big
- 23:17Speaker 6: hinderance on his recruiting or his draft grate.
- 23:20Speaker 3: At the moment, I.
- 23:21Speaker 6: Think a third round grade is fine. Will he's sneaking
- 23:25Speaker 6: to the second, I wouldn't be surprised, but a third
- 23:28Speaker 6: round is basically where I'm expecting him.
- 23:30Speaker 3: The ball right now, all.
- 23:31Speaker 1: Right, and last question for you.
- 23:32Speaker 2: It is the Master's week, It's the best golf tournament
- 23:36Speaker 2: of the year. I know you're a big golf and
- 23:37Speaker 2: I know you have Master's picks. I know you got
- 23:39Speaker 2: about ten different first round leaders on your on your
- 23:42Speaker 2: betting board. Who do you have overall though, to win
- 23:45Speaker 2: the green jacket this week?
- 23:47Speaker 4: Well, if I can't.
- 23:48Speaker 6: Pitch Scotty because I mean, let's be honest, he's a
- 23:51Speaker 6: machine when it comes to playing at a GUSSA. I
- 23:54Speaker 6: really want to rock with Max Forragerman, a little long
- 23:57Speaker 6: shot action right there.
- 23:59Speaker 3: I don't no one to expect from that one.
- 24:00Speaker 6: But it's not a windy week in Augusta for Wyndham
- 24:04Speaker 6: Clark is this guys are going to look pretty grave.
- 24:06Speaker 6: We're going to Max arrangerment, how about it?
- 24:09Speaker 2: Hey, seventy one for Grazerman in the clubhouse. He's only
- 24:11Speaker 2: five shots back from Justin Rose, so hey, not a
- 24:15Speaker 2: bad pick. And Wyndon Clark even park just getting started. Hey, CJ,
- 24:18Speaker 2: thanks so much for.
- 24:18Speaker 3: The time, man.
- 24:19Speaker 1: I appreciate you and we'll see you around.
- 24:22Speaker 4: Absolutely can appreciate you having me on store.
- 24:24Speaker 1: That's CJ.
- 24:25Speaker 2: Fogel from on Texas Football. Make sure you check out
- 24:28Speaker 2: his work on Texas Football dot Com, Bobby Burton, Rod Babers,
- 24:31Speaker 2: the entire Gang, and of course follow CJ on Twitter.
- 24:33Speaker 1: CJ Fogel underscore OTF up.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Next on this Thursday edition inconceivable here on the Craigway Show,
- 24:40Speaker 2: it is fitting that we do have the host of
- 24:43Speaker 2: this show, the host of this program, Craig Way, even
- 24:45Speaker 2: though he is on the road and in Lexington, Kentucky,
- 24:48Speaker 2: it is fitting that we do have him join us
- 24:50Speaker 2: here hour two on.
- 24:52Speaker 1: This Thursday edition.
- 24:54Speaker 2: And Craig, it is a Master's Thursday, and I was thinking,
- 24:57Speaker 2: no one, no one enjoys food more than me.
- 25:00Speaker 1: I think you.
- 25:01Speaker 2: I think you're on that list. And I'm looking at
- 25:03Speaker 2: the master's concession prices. Of course, a dollar fifty four
- 25:07Speaker 2: in egg salad, dollar fifty for a mento cheese, three
- 25:09Speaker 2: dollars for a Master's club, three dollars for a park
- 25:12Speaker 2: barbecue sandwich, and of course three dollars for a Georgia
- 25:16Speaker 2: peach ice cream sandwich, and two for water, two for soda,
- 25:20Speaker 2: six dollars for beer or wine. So I wanted to
- 25:22Speaker 2: ask you, Craig. First off, I hope you're doing okay.
- 25:25Speaker 2: If you had ten dollars to build your perfect Master's
- 25:30Speaker 2: concession meal ten dollars, what would you buy?
- 25:36Speaker 5: I would probably think good afternoon. Yeah, I would probably
- 25:39Speaker 5: have an egg salad sandwich, a permeno cheese sandwich, a
- 25:42Speaker 5: pork barbecue sandwich.
- 25:44Speaker 4: Can a lemonade? Does that add up to tim? Yeah?
- 25:47Speaker 2: I think you're in the clear. I like that, So
- 25:48Speaker 2: lemonade over beer, which which is fitting. But you said
- 25:52Speaker 2: pimento cheese, that's your exit.
- 25:54Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, the answer is yes.
- 25:58Speaker 3: I'd have one of.
- 25:58Speaker 5: These to maybe half of each, and save the because
- 26:02Speaker 5: so much is said about those two sandwiches. And by
- 26:04Speaker 5: the way, I'm sure you noticed that I did not
- 26:06Speaker 5: see this until yesterday.
- 26:08Speaker 3: Oh yeah, that's right.
- 26:09Speaker 5: I showed a team my friend Chris Edwards that we
- 26:12Speaker 5: had dinner with in Birmingham, the play by play voice
- 26:15Speaker 5: of Duke Baseball women's basketball. He got that taste of
- 26:19Speaker 5: the Master's Kit or samfort that say that you can
- 26:23Speaker 5: order and they send you what.
- 26:25Speaker 4: A pint of the egg salad and a pint.
- 26:28Speaker 5: Of the pomena cheese and a pint of the pork barbecue.
- 26:31Speaker 4: It's the heck of the deal. I think I probably
- 26:33Speaker 4: need to do.
- 26:33Speaker 3: Something like that.
- 26:34Speaker 5: Now, I'll bet you they don't charge Masters Club prices.
- 26:38Speaker 3: But I'd certainly be willing to give it a shot anyway.
- 26:40Speaker 2: No, So it's it's one hundred dollars total and it
- 26:43Speaker 2: serves about four to six people. Now I don't know
- 26:46Speaker 2: what the serving size, Craig, I think that I think
- 26:48Speaker 2: I can mean, you can knock this out. But it's
- 26:50Speaker 2: twenty four ounces of their Pimento cheese dip, six bags
- 26:54Speaker 2: of their potato chips, you get six of their many
- 26:57Speaker 2: chocolate moon pies. You get a sleeve of twelve of
- 27:01Speaker 2: their Master's branded souvenir cups that goes well with you know,
- 27:04Speaker 2: the lemonade. Of course, you get a pack of twelve
- 27:07Speaker 2: Master's coasters, You get their Master's branded wax paper, and
- 27:11Speaker 2: then you get some printed menus, food cards, accessories. Now
- 27:15Speaker 2: bread and bund does not come with it, unfortunately, so
- 27:18Speaker 2: it's mostly just the pimento cheese or I believe what
- 27:22Speaker 2: Chris did. We went with a barbecue, which you can
- 27:26Speaker 2: choose from so barbecue or pimento cheese. But you know,
- 27:29Speaker 2: maybe one of these one of these years we just
- 27:31Speaker 2: do a Master's watch party and we go ahead and
- 27:33Speaker 2: just we buy this taste of the Master's kit. I
- 27:35Speaker 2: mean a hundred bucks is not too bad because I
- 27:37Speaker 2: don't think I'm not near that place.
- 27:40Speaker 5: Yeah, you're right, Heppy, and I'm definitely and I'm always
- 27:42Speaker 5: working on Master's weekend, like this week it happen to
- 27:45Speaker 5: be in Lexig, Kentucky. But it looks good. And by
- 27:47Speaker 5: the way, here's our man, Scottie Shefflerck got a four
- 27:50Speaker 5: or sixty eight to a good position. Rory looks pretty
- 27:53Speaker 5: solid playing number eleven. How about justin Rose that the
- 27:56Speaker 5: pasting brick with a with with a excellent round working.
- 28:00Speaker 5: You know, when we landed with the team, Cameron Keith
- 28:03Speaker 5: Morland and I jumped in the rental car where we're
- 28:05Speaker 5: headed to the hotel, and the first thing that came
- 28:08Speaker 5: out of his mouth was, boy, I hope there's a
- 28:10Speaker 5: placeheck and watch the Masters. I said, well, it's ONNYESPM
- 28:12Speaker 5: this afternoon. He got perfect, So sure though, I get.
- 28:16Speaker 4: In the hotel room turning on thought was.
- 28:18Speaker 5: On on the cable system here in the hotel, Lectin
- 28:21Speaker 5: on channel twenty five, So I texted him Masters is
- 28:25Speaker 5: on twenty five on it, so he's the question he
- 28:31Speaker 5: may not join me when I go over to the
- 28:33Speaker 5: ballpark later this afterdoing the took up the equipment and
- 28:36Speaker 5: the broadcast moved and get everything set up for the
- 28:39Speaker 5: three broadcasts this weekend.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I got a filling.
- 28:41Speaker 2: Keith will have his feet up on the bed, you know,
- 28:44Speaker 2: maybe catching a fantastic afternoon nap and watching the back
- 28:48Speaker 2: nine of this Thursday edition. I mean Roy mcarray right
- 28:52Speaker 2: there as well, Correig. I mean the biggest issue with
- 28:54Speaker 2: with Roy during his time to trying to win the Masters,
- 28:56Speaker 2: He's gotten out to such bad starts on Thursdays, a
- 28:59Speaker 2: lot of seventy four or seventy five's.
- 29:01Speaker 1: But here he is right now making the turn at three.
- 29:05Speaker 2: Under par, and a stata I shared earlier in the
- 29:08Speaker 2: program is eighteen. The last twenty winners of this golf
- 29:11Speaker 2: tournament have been inside the top ten after the opening
- 29:14Speaker 2: round except for Tiger Woods did it twice, but you
- 29:16Speaker 2: know Tiger's in his own different tier. But here's Scotty
- 29:19Speaker 2: Scheffler right now tied for second four under par, and
- 29:23Speaker 2: there's Roy McElroy at three under par. So this is
- 29:25Speaker 2: setting up to be a fantastic tournament. Of course, Bryce
- 29:28Speaker 2: and the Shamba, whether you love him or not, such
- 29:31Speaker 2: a patronizing figure. He's at two under par so all
- 29:34Speaker 2: the big names are playing well and the weather is
- 29:37Speaker 2: absolutely perfect in Augusta right now.
- 29:40Speaker 4: What could you tell me about these other two guys?
- 29:42Speaker 5: Connors who shot the sixty Is Terrell had right who
- 29:44Speaker 5: shot the sixty nine?
- 29:45Speaker 1: Yes, Lord Terrell Haddon, Lord Terrell.
- 29:47Speaker 5: Haddon, Okay, so he shot and Connors.
- 29:53Speaker 2: Yes, he's Canadian fantastic ball striker. He's a player that
- 29:59Speaker 2: a lot of people have picked him to win or
- 30:02Speaker 2: picked him to do well in years past because of
- 30:04Speaker 2: his ability to strike the ball. I believe he's actually
- 30:08Speaker 2: shot a sixty five here at once. His best finish
- 30:11Speaker 2: overall is a T six back in twenty twenty two,
- 30:14Speaker 2: so he's been closed, hasn't been in super contention, but hey,
- 30:19Speaker 2: sixty eight will do that. Interroll hadn't currently now in
- 30:22Speaker 2: the Live Golf Tour. So, you know, casual golf fans
- 30:25Speaker 2: or just even regular golf fans probably have not heard
- 30:27Speaker 2: too much from the last couple of years because he's
- 30:30Speaker 2: been playing on the Live Golf Tour. He's finished in
- 30:33Speaker 2: the top ten here before as well, so he's a
- 30:35Speaker 2: fantastic player. Sixty nine for him, sixty eight for Connors.
- 30:39Speaker 2: And again, this course rewards great ball strikers, which is
- 30:43Speaker 2: why Justin Rose is leading the tournament and why Scotty
- 30:46Speaker 2: and Roy are up there.
- 30:47Speaker 1: But also it rewards people who.
- 30:48Speaker 2: Can, you know, make putts inside the five to ten
- 30:52Speaker 2: feet margin. And I've been watching coverage all day. I know, Craig,
- 30:55Speaker 2: you've you've been traveling, getting writing on a plane. But
- 30:57Speaker 2: just because the weather's been nice, it does not mean
- 31:01Speaker 2: it's not playing tough. We're seeing a lot of guys
- 31:04Speaker 2: struggle even on the par fives. We're seeing some guys
- 31:08Speaker 2: like Coling Moore Kawa who at one point was time
- 31:10Speaker 2: for the league come out and he'll make a bogey
- 31:12Speaker 2: on a par five. And Craig, you know, scoring well
- 31:15Speaker 2: on the par fives is critical to winning this golf tournament.
- 31:19Speaker 3: Yeah. Absolutely.
- 31:20Speaker 5: One guy who is playing pretty well to Decki Batsiama
- 31:23Speaker 5: and uh he.
- 31:25Speaker 3: He is leading all.
- 31:29Speaker 5: Active golfers right now in cuts made at majors.
- 31:33Speaker 4: He's made nineteen consecutive cuts. So that's gonna get and
- 31:36Speaker 4: another we got to watch.
- 31:37Speaker 5: Uh he's I think he's on number nine right now
- 31:39Speaker 5: we're a number number ten. Is Shane Lowry maybe the
- 31:42Speaker 5: most unattractive man ever to win a major?
- 31:45Speaker 7: Wow?
- 31:46Speaker 8: Uh?
- 31:46Speaker 3: But but there?
- 31:47Speaker 5: But there he is at two hunder part so he's
- 31:50Speaker 5: in the hunt right now.
- 31:52Speaker 2: He said most unattractive man to win a major. Oh,
- 31:55Speaker 2: come on, that's a little unfair, is it not?
- 31:59Speaker 4: Well, I I didn't say it was ugly. I just
- 32:01Speaker 4: maybe the most unner track, That's all I was saying there,
- 32:05Speaker 4: And hey, what does it matter.
- 32:06Speaker 5: He's a major champion anyway, He won the Open Championship,
- 32:09Speaker 5: So what.
- 32:09Speaker 3: Difference does it make? Right?
- 32:10Speaker 1: You're right, and he's two under through nine holes, currently.
- 32:14Speaker 2: Tied for six currently in the last place by himself
- 32:18Speaker 2: by about ten shots.
- 32:19Speaker 1: Is poor, Nick Dunlap.
- 32:21Speaker 2: I believe he's twenty two years old, so I'm not
- 32:23Speaker 2: going to harpen him too much. Shut a ninety. Curious, Craig,
- 32:26Speaker 2: do you think you could shoot a ninety at Augusta
- 32:29Speaker 2: if you played from the forward tees?
- 32:34Speaker 5: I think I could shoot a ninety playing from the
- 32:38Speaker 5: back piece, and then I would go to the.
- 32:40Speaker 3: Back nine and then and then see what I could
- 32:42Speaker 3: do for him.
- 32:43Speaker 5: There, So no answer to your question there if if I.
- 32:49Speaker 4: Could shoot, you know, because people know me.
- 32:51Speaker 5: Know I played four or five rounds of golf a year,
- 32:54Speaker 5: That's about it, and usually all of it while I'm
- 32:56Speaker 5: on vacation on.
- 32:58Speaker 4: The North Carolina South Carolina Cutters. That's it.
- 33:00Speaker 5: The only time I really have the play golf, and
- 33:03Speaker 5: I'm always rounding the same. My game never improves. It
- 33:07Speaker 5: might slightly regress, and by like the third of four
- 33:10Speaker 5: or five days when I play, it gets up. I'm
- 33:13Speaker 5: always around a twenty five to thirty handicapper. I mean,
- 33:17Speaker 5: if I break one hundred, I'm happy, you know inside.
- 33:21Speaker 4: Because I only played four or five times and I
- 33:23Speaker 4: do no lessons and none.
- 33:24Speaker 3: Of that stuff.
- 33:25Speaker 4: So it's always going to be the same like that
- 33:28Speaker 4: for me every year.
- 33:29Speaker 3: I have no expectations.
- 33:31Speaker 5: I just enjoy when I go out to play golf
- 33:33Speaker 5: because I know I'm not going to have.
- 33:35Speaker 4: You know, one of the.
- 33:35Speaker 5: Most exciting moments of my golf life, I've had two.
- 33:40Speaker 5: One when I was sixteen, I shot an eighty nine.
- 33:44Speaker 5: It's the only time I've ever broken one hundred in
- 33:46Speaker 5: my life, and I mean broken ninety in my life.
- 33:50Speaker 4: I shot an eighty nine. I peaked again.
- 33:52Speaker 3: I think I'm.
- 33:52Speaker 5: Seventeen, I peak at that point. But that was growing
- 33:56Speaker 5: up North Carolina, where I played golf a lot in.
- 33:58Speaker 4: The summertime, alright, So there was that.
- 34:00Speaker 3: And then the other.
- 34:00Speaker 5: Time, I'm playing in a really tough course down in
- 34:04Speaker 5: the north Myrtle Beach areat near where I go vacation
- 34:07Speaker 5: called Oyster Bay, and for whatever reason, on the front nine,
- 34:10Speaker 5: I was just unconscious.
- 34:11Speaker 4: I hit everything very very so I shot a forty
- 34:13Speaker 4: three on the front nine, and I'm so excited. I thought,
- 34:16Speaker 4: my gosh, I think I gotta I'm not only break
- 34:19Speaker 4: one hundred, I.
- 34:19Speaker 3: Got a chance to break ninety on this golf course.
- 34:21Speaker 5: And I stand on number ten and you have to
- 34:23Speaker 5: drive it over as salt marsh, and I hit it
- 34:25Speaker 5: right into the salt marsh.
- 34:27Speaker 3: I shot fifty.
- 34:27Speaker 5: Seven on the back nine, exactly even one.
- 34:30Speaker 3: I was like, oh, well, yep, that's my game.
- 34:32Speaker 5: So yeah, those were the two moments on that So
- 34:36Speaker 5: I have zero expectations when I go out to play golf,
- 34:38Speaker 5: but I love, dearly loved watching championship golf, and.
- 34:45Speaker 3: That's why it's fun to watch the majors.
- 34:47Speaker 2: Well, in speaking of expectations, you have a guy like
- 34:51Speaker 2: Nick Dunlap, who was a PGA Tour one of this
- 34:53Speaker 2: last season. He's twenty one years old, bloom of youth,
- 34:56Speaker 2: can hit the ball mile, goes out and shoots ninety.
- 35:00Speaker 2: Then you have someone like Freddy Couples, who plays once
- 35:03Speaker 2: or twice professionally each year, goes out and shoots a
- 35:07Speaker 2: seventy one Craig he's one under part tied for twelve
- 35:10Speaker 2: nineteen shots better. If you asked one hundred people, one
- 35:13Speaker 2: hundred golf fans, hey, I'm giving you either you take
- 35:16Speaker 2: Nick Dunlap or Freddy Couples to shoot a lower score today.
- 35:19Speaker 2: I'm going to think that all one hundred people are
- 35:22Speaker 2: taking the twenty one year old professional golfer Nick Dunlapp.
- 35:24Speaker 2: But it's Freddy Couple and that's a testament to one.
- 35:27Speaker 2: Freddy knows his course at the back of his hand.
- 35:29Speaker 2: He's won here multiple times in two Just because you're
- 35:32Speaker 2: younger doesn't mean you're going to play well. And that's
- 35:34Speaker 2: why golf is, as some call it, the perfect game.
- 35:38Speaker 4: Yeah, I agree, and I think there's an emotional thing.
- 35:42Speaker 3: For fred Couples.
- 35:43Speaker 5: This is his final Masters that he's playing again, and
- 35:47Speaker 5: you know, one at ninety.
- 35:49Speaker 4: Two, and he says, you know, and there's.
- 35:51Speaker 3: It is very, very emotional.
- 35:53Speaker 5: My favorite memory of Fred Couples is when he won
- 35:58Speaker 5: the Byron Nelson and well, we were doing the Byron
- 36:01Speaker 5: Nelson Golf tournament on the radio in those days up
- 36:04Speaker 5: in Dallas. The KRLD kind of predated PGA Tour. Radio
- 36:07Speaker 5: was a lot like that, and we did stroke by
- 36:09Speaker 5: stroke coverage d EASL mobile transmitters on her back. We
- 36:12Speaker 5: followed the groups around and I was with Couples, and.
- 36:15Speaker 4: He wins, and so this is in nineteen eighty seven.
- 36:18Speaker 5: He wins, but he had to he had to make
- 36:22Speaker 5: a putt on the last hole to win it, and
- 36:25Speaker 5: he did and then his wife, at least his wife
- 36:27Speaker 5: at the time, comes up and gives him this big
- 36:29Speaker 5: hug on the green. And there's a big picture on
- 36:35Speaker 5: the front page of the Dallas Morning new Sports section
- 36:38Speaker 5: the next day, and it said Couples wins Byron Nelson.
- 36:43Speaker 3: And I was looking at.
- 36:44Speaker 4: It, and there was a woman working in our radio
- 36:46Speaker 4: stationtimes she said, I didn't know they let husbands.
- 36:48Speaker 5: And wives play together. And I had to say, I
- 36:53Speaker 5: don't understand. So yeah, So I always think about that
- 36:57Speaker 5: with Fred couples, but he's playing his last one and
- 36:59Speaker 5: I'm sure it's an emotional ride for him.
- 37:02Speaker 2: This week in Texas baseball, back on the baseball diamond
- 37:05Speaker 2: against Kentucky Craigs.
- 37:06Speaker 1: This is your first trip to Lexington, I know.
- 37:08Speaker 2: I think it's your first trip to what they call
- 37:10Speaker 2: it Kentucky Proud Stadium.
- 37:12Speaker 5: Yeah, at Kentucky Crowd Park. It'll be my first time
- 37:16Speaker 5: to be in that ballpark. Going to go over in
- 37:17Speaker 5: about an hour to try to set up the equipment
- 37:19Speaker 5: and stuff and get ready.
- 37:21Speaker 3: I've been to Lexington.
- 37:22Speaker 5: The men played here in twenty thirteen. I think it
- 37:25Speaker 5: was Isaiah Taylor, had a tremendous game.
- 37:28Speaker 3: They lost.
- 37:29Speaker 5: Kentucky was number one or number two in the country,
- 37:31Speaker 5: really good, and Texas played himself lost at think by five,
- 37:33Speaker 5: and John Calipari got on the microphone to the crowd
- 37:36Speaker 5: atwards and said, this team.
- 37:37Speaker 3: Is going to be good. You wait and see.
- 37:39Speaker 4: Of course, that was the one time when Texas ended up.
- 37:41Speaker 5: Missing the NCAA tournament under Rick Barnes, I think twenty thirteen,
- 37:44Speaker 5: but there was that, and I did a women's Sweet
- 37:47Speaker 5: sixteen game at Ruff Arena in twenty seventeen. Karen Asta
- 37:53Speaker 5: had three straight years of Texas making the Sweet sixteen,
- 37:56Speaker 5: twenty fifteen, twenty sixteen.
- 37:58Speaker 4: They got to the Elite eight of those years.
- 38:01Speaker 5: Connecticut ended their season and then in twenty seventeen they
- 38:05Speaker 5: lost in the Sweet sixteen to a really good Stanford team.
- 38:08Speaker 5: So I've been there for basketball. Of course, this fall,
- 38:11Speaker 5: long Ward Football will be up here to play at
- 38:13Speaker 5: Commonwealth Stadium in football, so we'll see how.
- 38:17Speaker 3: See how it goes from there. So it'll be my
- 38:19Speaker 3: first time in this ballpark.
- 38:20Speaker 5: This Kentucky team started off ranked, was really good. They've
- 38:24Speaker 5: had some struggles late. They lost the game the Louisville
- 38:27Speaker 5: on Tuesday night, very similar to the one that Texas
- 38:29Speaker 5: lost the Louisville in the season open. In both cases
- 38:32Speaker 5: the game was two to two after nine innings. In
- 38:35Speaker 5: both cases the visiting team and it was Kentucky. The
- 38:38Speaker 5: other night it was Texas in the season opener in Arlington.
- 38:42Speaker 5: Scored a run in the top of the ten and
- 38:44Speaker 5: in both cases gave up two in the bottom of
- 38:46Speaker 5: the ten for lease for three to a right Louisville
- 38:49Speaker 5: team and Louisville number fourteen in the country.
- 38:52Speaker 4: So Texas knows this isn't.
- 38:54Speaker 5: This isn't going into Columbia, Missouri, and not even this
- 38:57Speaker 5: is at Peas State because I played.
- 38:58Speaker 3: This is a better ball club.
- 39:00Speaker 5: This was a program that was in Omaha last year
- 39:03Speaker 5: and it was a super regional team the year before.
- 39:05Speaker 5: So they're going to have a challenge on their hands.
- 39:09Speaker 5: But if Jared Spencer continues to pitch the way he's
- 39:11Speaker 5: pitching and the support they're getting from the bullpen, this ballpark,
- 39:17Speaker 5: I'm told it can be a hit or friendly part
- 39:21Speaker 5: depending on the weather conditions.
- 39:23Speaker 4: Now today it's a nice day. It's in the sixties.
- 39:26Speaker 4: Partley Clouds guys, there is a froup moving.
- 39:28Speaker 3: In and they're concerned about tomorrow. It could really affect things.
- 39:33Speaker 5: Tomorrow high to be in the fifties with rain Saturday
- 39:37Speaker 5: and Sunday supposedly better kind of like today, maybe a
- 39:40Speaker 5: little cooler in the high fifties something like that, so
- 39:44Speaker 5: it might be better there or low sixties. But tomorrow
- 39:47Speaker 5: is the biggest risk of having in claim up weather,
- 39:50Speaker 5: so we'll see how that sets up.
- 39:51Speaker 1: That's how it's been every weekend though, Craig.
- 39:53Speaker 2: I mean, we're used to this now, we're just trying
- 39:55Speaker 2: to get through a weekend without any sort of weather lays,
- 39:57Speaker 2: whether it's Texas baseball or softball, and we got through
- 40:00Speaker 2: it last weekend, but we wouldn't be surprised if it
- 40:03Speaker 2: aff access this week At five fifteen year time tomorrow
- 40:06Speaker 2: on one O three one FM, Craig Way and Keith
- 40:09Speaker 2: Muller will have to call Craig, thanks you stopping by
- 40:11Speaker 2: and we'll visit with you tomorrow.
- 40:13Speaker 4: Hey, I have to ask you this, when Luca got.
- 40:15Speaker 5: All peered up last night, did you get a little
- 40:18Speaker 5: bit clem to yourself, you know the limits that you
- 40:21Speaker 5: got kind of choked up about it? And then then
- 40:23Speaker 5: dude goes out and drops forty five on the average. Now,
- 40:25Speaker 5: the happy story if you're a Maverick fan is they
- 40:28Speaker 5: back into the playoffs anyway since Phoenix lost last night,
- 40:32Speaker 5: so they wind up getting into that tent spot into
- 40:36Speaker 5: the play in. But you know, it was an emotional
- 40:39Speaker 5: moment last night, and I had two or three people
- 40:42Speaker 5: make a very good point and say, you know, maybe
- 40:46Speaker 5: that wasn't the best thing in the world because it
- 40:49Speaker 5: for Mavericks fans, it wasn't cathartic. All it did was
- 40:53Speaker 5: make people angry or and sad. All over again. But
- 40:56Speaker 5: it was a really nice video that did for Luca,
- 40:58Speaker 5: and he got, you know, kind of emotional about it obviously,
- 41:02Speaker 5: but then he went out and dropped forty five pointy
- 41:04Speaker 5: ting so in a game that the Lakers really needed
- 41:06Speaker 5: as well.
- 41:07Speaker 2: I don't know if Mavericks fans will ever get closure,
- 41:10Speaker 2: right because I think about with Spurs fans to Kawhi
- 41:12Speaker 2: trade completely different, completely different, because obviously Kawhi Leonard asked
- 41:18Speaker 2: for a trade, whereas Lucas Luca was traded.
- 41:20Speaker 1: But you know, when Kawhia left Toronto after winning an.
- 41:23Speaker 2: NBA championship, if I was the MVPA to go to Los Angeles,
- 41:26Speaker 2: I think Spurs fans recognized, Okay, you know what, he
- 41:29Speaker 2: always wanted to go to La Luca.
- 41:32Speaker 1: And the tribute to do Craig. He was cheering up.
- 41:34Speaker 2: He didn't want to go to La He wanted to
- 41:36Speaker 2: end his career in Dallas. And I think for Mavericks
- 41:39Speaker 2: fans that made things worse last night.
- 41:42Speaker 5: That's exactly the point I was trying to make there.
- 41:45Speaker 5: I don't think it was cathartic in any sense of it,
- 41:48Speaker 5: But you know what, if Mavericks management flaud it was
- 41:52Speaker 5: going to be. Then they made another big mistake. If
- 41:55Speaker 5: their thought was only to say, hey, look, Luca, we
- 41:59Speaker 5: appreciate what you've done, and even.
- 42:00Speaker 4: After they said some discouraging things about him after the trade.
- 42:03Speaker 4: But if they truly.
- 42:05Speaker 5: Mention it as a compliment to Lucid and mission accomplished,
- 42:07Speaker 5: they did their job because it was a really nice tribute.
- 42:10Speaker 4: Obviously brought Luke at the tiers, but I think.
- 42:13Speaker 5: It kind of backfired in terms of Maverick Stamps is.
- 42:16Speaker 5: All we did was make a mad all over again
- 42:18Speaker 5: thinking about here is this guy who is our hero
- 42:20Speaker 5: and everything, and he's been taken away from.
- 42:22Speaker 2: Us, especially if the Lakers go on a deep playoff run,
- 42:25Speaker 2: which the way they're playing would not be surprised. Well,
- 42:28Speaker 2: let's get to Kentucky Proud Park and hopefully is it
- 42:31Speaker 2: with you at some point tomorrow.
- 42:32Speaker 3: Craig, you bet we'll do it. Thanks Jim.
- 42:35Speaker 2: All right, that's Craig Way joining us live from Lachington, Kentucky.
- 42:39Speaker 2: Remember Texas Baseball and Action this weekend. Friday and Sunday's
- 42:43Speaker 2: games will be on a one to three one FM.
- 42:45Speaker 2: Saturday's game will be on Sports Radio thirteen hundred.
- 42:49Speaker 3: The zone.
- 42:49Speaker 2: Of course, you can always listen to it for free
- 42:51Speaker 2: on the iHeart Radio app. We'll be back with more
- 42:53Speaker 2: coverage here. Hour two of the Creigway Show continues after this.
- 42:58Speaker 2: Thanks to Craig Way for stop and by and calling
- 43:01Speaker 2: in here from Lexington, Kentucky, As Texas Baseball in action
- 43:05Speaker 2: this weekend against the Kentucky Wildcats and SEC play. Craig
- 43:08Speaker 2: WAYE will have to call alongside Keith Morland all weekend
- 43:11Speaker 2: long on the free iHeart Radio app. Day one of
- 43:16Speaker 2: the Masters Underway. Your leader currently is still Justin Rose,
- 43:19Speaker 2: who is on the fifteenth hole right now, the par five.
- 43:23Speaker 2: He is holding strong at six under bar in fact,
- 43:26Speaker 2: could have stretched his lead the seven under but he
- 43:28Speaker 2: missed about a four foot putt for birdie on the
- 43:31Speaker 2: thirteenth hole. He is currently behind the green on the
- 43:35Speaker 2: fifteenth that long par five, but if he gets up
- 43:38Speaker 2: and down for Bertie, he will hold on to a
- 43:40Speaker 2: three stroke lead with just three holes left the play.
- 43:43Speaker 1: Corey Connors and Scotty Scheffler in.
- 43:46Speaker 2: The Luck in the Clubhouse excuse me at four hundred
- 43:49Speaker 2: par a pair of sixty eight's for Connors and Scheffler
- 43:53Speaker 2: and Scottie himself visited with Michael Leaves from ESPN after
- 43:56Speaker 2: the round.
- 43:58Speaker 9: Keffler started the first round of the Masters with a
- 44:01Speaker 9: score in the sixties.
- 44:03Speaker 10: No bogies on the round as well.
- 44:04Speaker 9: Wouldn't say it was easy out there, but how would
- 44:06Speaker 9: you assess the overall round?
- 44:08Speaker 11: It definitely wasn't easy out there. The greens were starting
- 44:10Speaker 11: to firm up. It's definitely going to be a firm
- 44:12Speaker 11: Masters this year. And yeah, I thought I was playing
- 44:15Speaker 11: pretty tough out there. Did a good job of managing
- 44:16Speaker 11: my way around the course. Like you said, kept the
- 44:18Speaker 11: card clean with no bogies, and that making no bogies
- 44:21Speaker 11: around here, you're always going to have a pretty good score.
- 44:23Speaker 9: This is the first time, says twenty twenty one, that
- 44:24Speaker 9: you've come here without recording to win. Prior to coming
- 44:27Speaker 9: to Augustin, you said earlier in the week though, that
- 44:28Speaker 9: despite being winless at this point, you were very confident
- 44:31Speaker 9: in your preparation. How did that manifest itself today in
- 44:34Speaker 9: your opening round.
- 44:35Speaker 11: Well, yeah, I always trying to focus as much as
- 44:37Speaker 11: I can in my preparation. That's what gives me confidence
- 44:39Speaker 11: going into a tournament. And at the beginning of this year,
- 44:41Speaker 11: with the injury. I obviously wasn't as prepared as I
- 44:44Speaker 11: could have been without the injury. I still was as
- 44:47Speaker 11: prepared as possible for me, but you know, it was
- 44:50Speaker 11: nice having a little bit of time. I felt like
- 44:52Speaker 11: I was figuring stuff out. I was definitely learning from
- 44:54Speaker 11: not playing my best to start the year. But I
- 44:56Speaker 11: had some good starts. I had some starts that that
- 44:58Speaker 11: also weren't so good, but I was definitely I felt
- 45:00Speaker 11: like I was learning a lot and I felt, you know,
- 45:02Speaker 11: very prepared to go into this tournament.
- 45:04Speaker 9: Two wins here in the last three years. How do
- 45:06Speaker 9: you continue to lean on that experience, Scotty as you
- 45:08Speaker 9: get towards the weekend.
- 45:10Speaker 11: Well, I mean, yes, it's nice having the success here.
- 45:13Speaker 11: It's great having the success around the golf course. That's
- 45:15Speaker 11: something I can lean on mentally out there. But at
- 45:17Speaker 11: the end of the day, everybody starts to even par.
- 45:19Speaker 11: Last couple of tournaments don't matter. You know, there's a
- 45:22Speaker 11: group of guys in the golf course we got try
- 45:24Speaker 11: and beat this week, and that's what I'm focused on.
- 45:25Speaker 10: Appreciate the time was always thanks, all right?
- 45:28Speaker 2: So it was sixty eight for Scotty Scheffler. He is
- 45:31Speaker 2: two back of Justin Rose, is a clean scorecard, got
- 45:36Speaker 2: out to a birdie on two, a birdie on four
- 45:39Speaker 2: the par three, another birdie on a par five the
- 45:41Speaker 2: eighth hole, made the tournament three under par, would play
- 45:44Speaker 2: him and corner even parr including just making par on
- 45:48Speaker 2: the thirteenth hole, the par five, and even making par
- 45:51Speaker 2: on the fifteenth the par five, so only playing the
- 45:53Speaker 2: par five's two under par, but would convert a long
- 45:56Speaker 2: birdy putt on the sixteenth pole to finish that four under.
- 46:00Speaker 2: Great round for Scotty Scheffler could have been even better,
- 46:03Speaker 2: but when she pointed out, or as Michael Eaves pointed out,
- 46:06Speaker 2: no bogies on the scorecard, you can't win the Masters
- 46:09Speaker 2: on the first day, but you certainly can lose it.
- 46:12Speaker 2: Scotty Scheffler once again putting himself in fantastic position again
- 46:17Speaker 2: two time Masters champion. In both times he's been inside
- 46:21Speaker 2: the top ten after the first round. In fact, he's
- 46:22Speaker 2: been in second place both times, and he's currently tied
- 46:25Speaker 2: for second behind Justin Rose. He is tied with Corey
- 46:28Speaker 2: Conners at four under park and we're going to hear
- 46:31Speaker 2: more from Scotty Scheffler throughout today's show, including another post
- 46:36Speaker 2: round interview. Jordan Spithan with a one over par seventy
- 46:40Speaker 2: three on the day, he is tied for thirty seventh.
- 46:42Speaker 2: Roy Malcroy currently at three under par through eleven holes,
- 46:47Speaker 2: the long time golfer, who of course a favorite to
- 46:51Speaker 2: go into this tournament, has not won the Masters yet.
- 46:53Speaker 2: He needs to have to complete the quer Grand Slam,
- 46:56Speaker 2: and as we talked about with Craig, his Achilles Hills
- 47:00Speaker 2: has been the first round at Augusta, where he has
- 47:03Speaker 2: shot himself out of the tournament early on. Looking at
- 47:06Speaker 2: those last couple last couple of Masters appearances, he shot
- 47:10Speaker 2: a seventy two in twenty twenty three, he would end
- 47:12Speaker 2: up missing the cut there after a seventy seven on
- 47:15Speaker 2: a round two.
- 47:16Speaker 1: He shot a seventy three. In twenty twenty.
- 47:17Speaker 2: Two, he would end up finishing second after a final
- 47:20Speaker 2: round sixty four behind Scotty Scheffard.
- 47:23Speaker 1: Remember Scotty kind of ran away with that tournament.
- 47:25Speaker 2: Remember he infamously went four putted the eighteenth hole and
- 47:28Speaker 2: still won by a couple of shots, so a second
- 47:32Speaker 2: place but kind of a non compete second place. In
- 47:34Speaker 2: twenty twenty one, he missed a cut a seventy six
- 47:37Speaker 2: in the first round twenty twenty a T five, but
- 47:40Speaker 2: shot at seventy five in the opening round. Imagine if
- 47:43Speaker 2: you just shot a regular round on that Thursday and
- 47:47Speaker 2: then twenty nineteen again over par as seventy three would
- 47:51Speaker 2: finish T.
- 47:52Speaker 1: Twenty one.
- 47:52Speaker 2: He is not shot in the sixties on opening day
- 47:56Speaker 2: since twenty eighteen. In fact, overall in his Master's career,
- 47:59Speaker 2: he's only shot seventy twice, and both those times he
- 48:03Speaker 2: finished tied inside the top fifteen T fifteen twenty eleven. Remember,
- 48:08Speaker 2: I believe he was actually leading on the tee box
- 48:11Speaker 2: on the final day heading into the back nine before
- 48:13Speaker 2: he hooked it out of bounce on the tenth hole
- 48:16Speaker 2: eleventh hole ended up shooting an eighty in that final round.
- 48:19Speaker 2: That was when sharl Schwoltzel what berdie the last four
- 48:22Speaker 2: holes to win his first and only major champion. Then
- 48:26Speaker 2: the sixty nine to twenty eighteen would finish tied for fifth,
- 48:29Speaker 2: which shoot a seventy four in the final round. He
- 48:31Speaker 2: was in the final pairing with Patrick Reid in twenty eighteen.
- 48:35Speaker 2: That year that Jordan Speed made that near comeback finished
- 48:40Speaker 2: to win the Masters and would end up finishing what
- 48:42Speaker 2: I believe tied for third or third place behind Ricky Foller.
- 48:45Speaker 2: But again the key forer Rory is can he shoot
- 48:48Speaker 2: under par and not shoot himself out of the tournament
- 48:51Speaker 2: on opening day? And so far three hundred part Right
- 48:54Speaker 2: now he is playing Amen corner. He is on the
- 48:57Speaker 2: twelfth hole, and we'll catch a look and see where
- 48:59Speaker 2: he's currently at right now on the golf course, as
- 49:02Speaker 2: it looks like he is not teed off yet on
- 49:05Speaker 2: the twelfth hole, a hole that has infamously acclaimed many
- 49:11Speaker 2: many golf balls and has ruined the hopes of many
- 49:13Speaker 2: green jackets for many golfers in the field. Justin Rose,
- 49:17Speaker 2: by the way a birdie on the fifteenth hole. He
- 49:20Speaker 2: is now seven under par, three shots clear of Scottie
- 49:24Speaker 2: Scheffler and Corey Conners. We'll be back to wrap up
- 49:28Speaker 2: our number two of today's program here on the free
- 49:32Speaker 2: iHeart Radio app.
- 49:33Speaker 1: One hour to go here on the Craig Ways.
- 49:36Speaker 2: Show up with Justin Rose pulling in a party put
- 49:38Speaker 2: on the seventeenth sorry sixteenth hole. He is now eight
- 49:42Speaker 2: under par, four shots clear of Scottie Scheffler and Corey Connors.
- 49:48Speaker 1: Currently through this opening round at Augusta.
- 49:51Speaker 2: Justin Rose has won one major championship, a US Open
- 49:55Speaker 2: at Marion.
- 49:56Speaker 1: Can he win a.
- 49:58Speaker 2: Second major championship capture his first ever Green jacket. He's
- 50:02Speaker 2: played very well in this tournament before, but has never
- 50:04Speaker 2: been able to close the deal. Coming up on today's program,
- 50:10Speaker 2: when we're hour to go, we're gonna hear from Arch
- 50:12Speaker 2: Manning as he spoke with the media today about QB one,
- 50:15Speaker 2: his new nil deals, all that, but wanted to kind
- 50:19Speaker 2: of close the door on the Luka doncicch Dallas Mavericks
- 50:23Speaker 2: Los Angeles Lakers game last sight and here from Luka
- 50:26Speaker 2: Doncics as well. Again Luca's first ever game in Dallas
- 50:30Speaker 2: since the trade, a one to twelve ninety seven victory
- 50:33Speaker 2: the Lakers. Luca had thirty one points at halftime. He
- 50:36Speaker 2: was the only Laker in double figures at halftime, ends
- 50:39Speaker 2: up with forty five points on sixteen to twenty eight,
- 50:41Speaker 2: shooting seven to ten from three, six and nine at
- 50:45Speaker 2: the line, eight rebound, six assists, force deals, just your
- 50:49Speaker 2: typical Luca masterpiece performance. Would end up scoring seven straight
- 50:54Speaker 2: points in the fourth quarter to effectively close the door
- 50:58Speaker 2: on Dallas and maybe get Mavericks fans a little closure.
- 51:04Speaker 1: Maybe not as.
- 51:05Speaker 2: Nico Harrison and the organization all watched as Luca did
- 51:10Speaker 2: luk at things, but did it in Lakers green, or
- 51:13Speaker 2: rather Lakers gold in purple. So here's Luca Dodgers last
- 51:18Speaker 2: night postgame talking about his return to Dallas.
- 51:24Speaker 12: Luca, how did you go from the emotions of the
- 51:27Speaker 12: video and the fans and the reception and everything to then,
- 51:30Speaker 12: you know, playing the way that you played.
- 51:35Speaker 7: A good question?
- 51:37Speaker 13: No, like I said post game in after David like,
- 51:41Speaker 13: I was like, there's no way I'm playing this game
- 51:43Speaker 13: though it was so many emotions, and you know, I
- 51:47Speaker 13: just went out there.
- 51:49Speaker 7: And just played bas stool.
- 51:51Speaker 1: When you checked out or.
- 51:53Speaker 14: There's a time out, I guess before you checked out,
- 51:55Speaker 14: you had forty five points, come to the bench some
- 51:58Speaker 14: of the fans and they were in a chance and
- 52:00Speaker 14: your Laker teammates are jumping up and down and chanting
- 52:02Speaker 14: it too.
- 52:03Speaker 1: What was that moment like for you? And how do
- 52:05Speaker 1: you think this?
- 52:07Speaker 14: Uh was an eventful day for the Lakers as a
- 52:10Speaker 14: team and you being a part of them.
- 52:12Speaker 13: Big time because they all had my back and so
- 52:16Speaker 13: we talked about before the game and everybody had my
- 52:18Speaker 13: back from coaches to players and you know, we're trying
- 52:22Speaker 13: to build something special here and and that.
- 52:24Speaker 7: Was pretty really really nice to see.
- 52:27Speaker 1: I know we talked about this last time a little bit.
- 52:29Speaker 15: You said, you know it was gonna be emotional night,
- 52:31Speaker 15: but you weren't fully sure what to expect.
- 52:34Speaker 1: I guess when you woke up this.
- 52:35Speaker 15: Morning, even got serena more so even pregame, like what
- 52:38Speaker 15: were you feeling as you know, you walked through the
- 52:40Speaker 15: arena for the first time in a while, as you
- 52:42Speaker 15: you know, you see these faces like what we what
- 52:44Speaker 15: were you feeling those specifically?
- 52:47Speaker 13: Well, it was a little bit of both, you know,
- 52:50Speaker 13: happy and angry, but you know it's nice to see, uh,
- 52:55Speaker 13: some formiliar faces here. You know, I spent a lot
- 52:57Speaker 13: of times with them. Uh, But you say, you know,
- 53:00Speaker 13: it was a lot of emotions. When I woke up,
- 53:03Speaker 13: I was tired and I didn't sleep much. I was
- 53:06Speaker 13: excited about this game, and you know, I really appreciate
- 53:09Speaker 13: the fence, the way they reacted to me.
- 53:12Speaker 16: Luca, what was the exhale like after the exhale, was
- 53:17Speaker 16: there a sigh of relief for exhaustion from you? After
- 53:20Speaker 16: after tonight to be able to put I'm tired.
- 53:24Speaker 7: I'm tired, but you know, I'm happy. I'm happy so
- 53:29Speaker 7: I can get some sleep finally.
- 53:32Speaker 13: But like I said, it was an amazing experience, you know,
- 53:35Speaker 13: like I said, the fence, the way they accept.
- 53:37Speaker 7: Me, you know, true for me, it was just unbelievable.
- 53:43Speaker 3: Luca.
- 53:43Speaker 17: You had that moment after you checked out where you
- 53:46Speaker 17: got a standing ovation from the crowd, you got a
- 53:48Speaker 17: standing ovation from the bench, and then you sat down
- 53:51Speaker 17: and you were surrounded by everyone standing. What was going
- 53:54Speaker 17: through your head there when you kind of sat by
- 53:56Speaker 17: yourself for like thirty seconds.
- 53:59Speaker 13: Honestly, I don't really know. I wasn't even thinking. I
- 54:02Speaker 13: was just I was just, you know, happy. I wasn't
- 54:08Speaker 13: with I'm sorry. I don't know what to say because
- 54:11Speaker 13: I wasn't with it thinking. I was just saying, there,
- 54:13Speaker 13: it's over. You know what we want and I have
- 54:17Speaker 13: had a great time.
- 54:19Speaker 12: Look, they've alluded to this a little bit, but not
- 54:22Speaker 12: just tonight's win, but you know, beating okay, see in
- 54:24Speaker 12: the way that you did hanging in in the second game,
- 54:27Speaker 12: what kind of collective confidence Lets just give you, guys,
- 54:29Speaker 12: as you know you still need one win to secure
- 54:31Speaker 12: the three seed. But what confidence does it give you
- 54:33Speaker 12: as you approached the playoffs.
- 54:34Speaker 13: I mean, first, it was a big time that we Uh,
- 54:37Speaker 13: the week I clinched playoff spot, you know, it's a
- 54:40Speaker 13: big time. You don't want to play in playing you know,
- 54:44Speaker 13: you get some rest, but obviously we want the third
- 54:47Speaker 13: seat and we're gonna go after it for sure. Look,
- 54:50Speaker 13: if you can explain and spanishenpel to start in the video,
- 54:58Speaker 13: he went on one of which you know, movement.
- 55:15Speaker 7: Mina, so you're ok uh, and so.
- 55:22Speaker 13: He went and which he went.
- 55:28Speaker 7: Simple lane.
- 55:32Speaker 3: Like you see that.
- 55:36Speaker 16: Lucas, specifically during that pregame video, what were some of
- 55:41Speaker 16: the moments that I found you made you most emotional?
- 55:45Speaker 16: Was there anything in particular that really stuck out to
- 55:48Speaker 16: you as you kind of looked back as that sort
- 55:50Speaker 16: of you know, your basketball career in America kind of
- 55:52Speaker 16: compressed in the two minutes.
- 55:55Speaker 13: Well, I mean all of it, for sure, But I
- 55:58Speaker 13: mean I would probably say that the shot in the
- 56:00Speaker 13: finals of the conference on the conference finals, you know,
- 56:05Speaker 13: we were always the underdog and every serious so the
- 56:10Speaker 13: way we came together and played together, Uh, it was
- 56:14Speaker 13: just another level and everybody, everybody was locked in and
- 56:19Speaker 13: I would say that was that was the moment when
- 56:21Speaker 13: I remember last.
- 56:22Speaker 18: Year look At, there was a lot of moments there
- 56:24Speaker 18: with your former teammates. You had exchanges, you had embraces.
- 56:29Speaker 18: What was that like for you personally? Just giving everything
- 56:31Speaker 18: you just mentioned you've been through them and then so
- 56:34Speaker 18: you had a moment there with a d at the
- 56:36Speaker 18: end and what can you share about that conversation?
- 56:38Speaker 13: Yeah, I mean those those are like I say, you know,
- 56:41Speaker 13: it was my brothers. I know we're not on the
- 56:44Speaker 13: same team now, but I always have contact with them.
- 56:46Speaker 13: We went to wards together, and you know, it was
- 56:49Speaker 13: just like it was nice to see everybody uh in
- 56:53Speaker 13: the you know, with the d Uh we got traded
- 56:55Speaker 13: for each other. So from now and everybody gonna compare
- 56:58Speaker 13: us to Uh, I think he's an amazing player and
- 57:01Speaker 13: I think he's going to do really good than dollars.
- 57:10Speaker 19: Look at.
- 57:10Speaker 18: You know, you spoke back in February about how it
- 57:12Speaker 18: will take time for closure, and you said after this
- 57:15Speaker 18: game on the broadcast, it's time to move on.
- 57:17Speaker 19: You do let you have closure.
- 57:23Speaker 7: It's a hard question. I mean, for sure, it's a
- 57:26Speaker 7: little bit more.
- 57:27Speaker 19: Uh.
- 57:27Speaker 13: You know, talking about closure sometimes hard because like I said,
- 57:32Speaker 13: I spent a lot of time here in great moments,
- 57:35Speaker 13: but it's like I said, it's a good more and
- 57:37Speaker 13: more and I got to focus on different things now.
- 57:41Speaker 1: That's to Lucas point there.
- 57:50Speaker 2: I don't know if closure will ever come about for
- 57:53Speaker 2: for Dallas Mavericks fans after this trade.
- 57:56Speaker 7: Uh.
- 57:56Speaker 2: Again, a lot of the discourse you saw on social
- 57:58Speaker 2: media last night trying to make sense of it, and
- 58:01Speaker 2: I don't think we ever will. And even if the
- 58:04Speaker 2: Mavericks somehow win a championship with Ad and Kyrie Irving,
- 58:10Speaker 2: I think Maverick fans are still always going to be
- 58:13Speaker 2: one upset at this trade and two never never will
- 58:22Speaker 2: move away from being Luca fans. I mean, you look
- 58:24Speaker 2: at the arena last night, the Luca jerseys, whether they
- 58:27Speaker 2: were Mavericks jerseys with the Mavericks crossed out and Lakers
- 58:32Speaker 2: taped over it, or Laker Luca jerseys. There was a
- 58:36Speaker 2: Lakers fire Nico jersey. This trade will go down as
- 58:41Speaker 2: one of the worst trades I think of all time,
- 58:45Speaker 2: And depending on what happens with Luca's career in the Lakers,
- 58:49Speaker 2: I don't think Mavericks fans will get closer, especially especially
- 58:52Speaker 2: if Nico Harrison is fired and this moves on, or
- 58:56Speaker 2: the Mavericks organization does change, just we'll be looked back
- 58:59Speaker 2: as a fair every dark period of time for the Mavericks.
- 59:02Speaker 2: But as Lucas said, it's time for him to move on,
- 59:04Speaker 2: and for Mavericks fans, I just don't know if they'll
- 59:08Speaker 2: be able to ever move on from the Luca trade.
- 59:11Speaker 2: That's all we got for the Luca trade. That's enough
- 59:13Speaker 2: for y'all. Sorry for bringing up the emotional pain from
- 59:17Speaker 2: that last night, but we'll continue on with today's show.
- 59:20Speaker 2: Up next, arch Manning QB one. First time this spring
- 59:24Speaker 2: he has spoken with the media. What did he have
- 59:26Speaker 2: to say about possibly spending four years in Austin. That's
- 59:30Speaker 2: up next on the Craigway Show QB one. Arch Manning
- 59:34Speaker 2: visited with the media today after what practice number eight
- 59:38Speaker 2: or nine in the spring football well underway. Remember no
- 59:40Speaker 2: Orange white game this year. There will be a ut
- 59:43Speaker 2: fan fest however, April twenty sixth Saturday. In fact, we're
- 59:46Speaker 2: gonna have a live show out outside DKR. Believe we're
- 59:50Speaker 2: gonna be outside Gate eight. Craig my Cars, myself and
- 59:55Speaker 2: some other guests as well special guests previewing Texas spring
- 59:59Speaker 2: football get closer and closer to opening day in August
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: of this year. So, without further ado, here's Arch Manning
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: from today's media availability.
- 1:00:09Speaker 8: How's that kind of your first sprance, kind of the start?
- 1:00:12Speaker 19: How's that going for you so far?
- 1:00:14Speaker 10: A couple of weekscited good? Feels good.
- 1:00:16Speaker 20: We got a good team, a bunch of good guys,
- 1:00:18Speaker 20: so I'm excited to start taking some more than one reps.
- 1:00:20Speaker 8: Marsh, how much time did you spend prior to in
- 1:00:22Speaker 8: this year throwing to some of the guys you know
- 1:00:24Speaker 8: who are now coming up here, the Aaron Butler's Parker
- 1:00:26Speaker 8: with the Sells.
- 1:00:28Speaker 19: Did you spend a lot of time with them when
- 1:00:29Speaker 19: you were Q two and QB three.
- 1:00:31Speaker 10: Yeah, you know, I live with Parker and a bunch
- 1:00:32Speaker 10: of those guys.
- 1:00:33Speaker 20: When you're the backups, you spend a lot of time
- 1:00:36Speaker 20: together in practice and getting those reps.
- 1:00:37Speaker 10: So it's cool now we're all running with the ones.
- 1:00:40Speaker 19: Can it be? Can it be overstated?
- 1:00:43Speaker 6: It's just the importance of you got that game experience
- 1:00:45Speaker 6: last year, and.
- 1:00:47Speaker 19: You got all that a lot.
- 1:00:47Speaker 21: Of experience more than just a random back then, And
- 1:00:50Speaker 21: how that does that make the transition smoother.
- 1:00:53Speaker 20: Yes, there definitely. Anytime you can get game reps, that's
- 1:00:56Speaker 20: just such a help and I'm really glad I got
- 1:00:59Speaker 20: to play in those games.
- 1:01:00Speaker 19: What was the biggest thing you learned?
- 1:01:01Speaker 10: You think just you know the speed of the game.
- 1:01:03Speaker 20: It's also a good way for me to play in
- 1:01:06Speaker 20: front of people, front of one hundred thousand, so that
- 1:01:09Speaker 20: was definitely the biggest thing for me.
- 1:01:11Speaker 19: Marching hindsight, how much did Quinn try to help you
- 1:01:13Speaker 19: over the last two years.
- 1:01:13Speaker 10: Just to get them comfortable and get you ready to
- 1:01:15Speaker 10: go now?
- 1:01:16Speaker 20: Yeah, Quinn's been great. I was just with him this
- 1:01:18Speaker 20: past weekend at Hayden Connor's wedding.
- 1:01:20Speaker 10: He's just been so good at me over the years.
- 1:01:22Speaker 20: It's probably pretty annoying having me as the backup, just
- 1:01:26Speaker 20: with all the media stuff, but he handled it like
- 1:01:27Speaker 20: a champ and he was so good to me along
- 1:01:29Speaker 20: the way.
- 1:01:30Speaker 19: Do you think it's anoight?
- 1:01:31Speaker 20: Yeah?
- 1:01:32Speaker 10: Yeah, it comes along for sure for sure.
- 1:01:34Speaker 11: Sorry, how do you do how do you take the
- 1:01:40Speaker 11: media of the hype?
- 1:01:41Speaker 8: You're probably gonna be the one of the most talking
- 1:01:42Speaker 8: about person if you're not already going into the season,
- 1:01:46Speaker 8: and yet you.
- 1:01:47Speaker 19: Seem to like let it roll off your back. You're
- 1:01:49Speaker 19: this is a humble.
- 1:01:50Speaker 8: Guy, said something from a family. Your family has taught
- 1:01:53Speaker 8: you that. If that's just how you are. How do
- 1:01:55Speaker 8: you handle that and separate this fandom versus you know,
- 1:01:59Speaker 8: your job?
- 1:02:00Speaker 10: Yeah? I think thankfully.
- 1:02:02Speaker 20: I have good people in my corner, good support group,
- 1:02:04Speaker 20: my family, my friends, keep me honest. So that's been Uh,
- 1:02:08Speaker 20: that's been kind of the key for me.
- 1:02:10Speaker 22: Do you feel pressure to void any kind of drop
- 1:02:13Speaker 22: off from the level Quinn ahead.
- 1:02:14Speaker 19: Of the last few years.
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: No, I don't.
- 1:02:16Speaker 10: I don't think about that.
- 1:02:17Speaker 20: I'm just trying to go execute, get completions and move
- 1:02:20Speaker 20: the ball forward.
- 1:02:21Speaker 10: Do go quick?
- 1:02:21Speaker 23: To go back to what Terry was asking, I happen
- 1:02:24Speaker 23: to see you some of the guys out at Matt's one.
- 1:02:25Speaker 6: Night, and just people just wouldn't eat, won't It's like damn,
- 1:02:29Speaker 6: you know, and that's gotta be every time he'll go out.
- 1:02:33Speaker 19: How do you how do you handle.
- 1:02:36Speaker 10: Yeah, that's been tough.
- 1:02:37Speaker 20: I think I have good people to lean on for
- 1:02:38Speaker 20: that type of stuff. But like I said, I can't
- 1:02:41Speaker 20: quit doing normal things like I'm gonna go eat dinner
- 1:02:43Speaker 20: with my buddies and be a normal college kid.
- 1:02:46Speaker 8: For when you do throw that into the interception for
- 1:02:49Speaker 8: your booze.
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:02:50Speaker 10: Yeah, you gotta be prepared for everything. I think that.
- 1:02:55Speaker 20: I mean, it's coming, It's coming, so I'm prepared and
- 1:02:58Speaker 20: I'll be ready.
- 1:02:59Speaker 21: Hey, Archie of the charge into the fans at the
- 1:03:01Speaker 21: last game with that ron against Ohio State.
- 1:03:04Speaker 19: But you can come back when you.
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: Danmed on that play.
- 1:03:07Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean that guy hit me pretty hard, but
- 1:03:10Speaker 10: I was fine.
- 1:03:12Speaker 21: Ty archb Heart from sark on Tuesday. You know, your energy,
- 1:03:16Speaker 21: your competitiveness is driving some of the defense. Also, what
- 1:03:19Speaker 21: comes with that is some talk, some smack talk on again,
- 1:03:22Speaker 21: what's that like?
- 1:03:22Speaker 10: The falling it in and how does that maybe both
- 1:03:25Speaker 10: tis fall about it.
- 1:03:26Speaker 20: I think that's just the competition we have in this team. Obviously,
- 1:03:28Speaker 20: Colin and are good players, and it's kind of fun
- 1:03:31Speaker 20: and practice is going to talk a little crap to them,
- 1:03:33Speaker 20: saying with Taff that just makes practice more fun.
- 1:03:36Speaker 19: Trey was saying it's.
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: A young team, but like a lot of that confuses
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: a lot of energy.
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: As someone that's maybe not as young anymore, what do
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: you see from these younger.
- 1:03:44Speaker 19: Guys how it might be a positive thing for you guys.
- 1:03:46Speaker 20: Yeah, it's really cool to see these young guys want
- 1:03:48Speaker 20: to be good and they bring good energy and that
- 1:03:51Speaker 20: what's make that's what makes practice more fun. And they
- 1:03:54Speaker 20: want to be good, so that's that's encouraging.
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: Arch Do you think you're gonna be able to run
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: with the same physicality, the infrequency and how to hear Starter?
- 1:04:01Speaker 19: That's any new change to in regard to head incredible.
- 1:04:04Speaker 10: I think I'm always gonna have to use my legs
- 1:04:06Speaker 10: when I can.
- 1:04:07Speaker 20: My grandfather tells me all the time, just get down
- 1:04:09Speaker 20: or get out of bound, so he wants to play
- 1:04:11Speaker 20: for a while.
- 1:04:12Speaker 6: Archer, you had any conversations with start Art, even with
- 1:04:15Speaker 6: Quinn about you know, the criticisms.
- 1:04:17Speaker 7: That will come his fall.
- 1:04:19Speaker 20: Yeah, I would always talk with Quinn about that last year,
- 1:04:21Speaker 20: and I think for me he was a great example.
- 1:04:23Speaker 20: He handled that so well. I mean, he didn't look
- 1:04:25Speaker 20: at the media. He was the same guy whether he
- 1:04:26Speaker 20: was getting praised or not praised.
- 1:04:28Speaker 10: So that was really cool to see.
- 1:04:30Speaker 23: What type of relationship do you have with Trevor consider
- 1:04:32Speaker 23: he's probably gonna be your blindside guy, Quinn had kel,
- 1:04:35Speaker 23: then you're gonna have him.
- 1:04:36Speaker 19: What do you see from the.
- 1:04:37Speaker 20: Tim Yeah, Goose, he's the man. He's like one of
- 1:04:39Speaker 20: the nicest guys ever. He's in the business school. We
- 1:04:42Speaker 20: played pickup basketball together. He's he's a great basketball player too,
- 1:04:45Speaker 20: so he's the man.
- 1:04:47Speaker 21: What he's uh receivers who was standing out? I know
- 1:04:51Speaker 21: you got a young group, you know, no wingo, no more.
- 1:04:53Speaker 19: What's that like?
- 1:04:54Speaker 20: Yeah, it's been good getting these young guys at the speed.
- 1:04:57Speaker 20: I've been really impressed with Parker and uh Dale mccutchin's
- 1:05:00Speaker 20: really good. He's he's coming along well. He's he's getting
- 1:05:02Speaker 20: the hang of things.
- 1:05:03Speaker 13: As the quarterback life and there's no player, but you've
- 1:05:05Speaker 13: got Trade, You've got kJ has a new guy in
- 1:05:08Speaker 13: here as well.
- 1:05:09Speaker 19: Got consider behind the scene of that room.
- 1:05:11Speaker 10: Yeah, it's good. kJ and Trey are both really good players.
- 1:05:14Speaker 20: Trey can make every throw on the field and kJ
- 1:05:16Speaker 20: can make some make some serious plays with his feet
- 1:05:19Speaker 20: and his arms.
- 1:05:20Speaker 10: So we got a good room all.
- 1:05:21Speaker 19: Right with Jordan watching going down? Can you talk about
- 1:05:23Speaker 19: Spencer Shannon and Ridge Parker.
- 1:05:25Speaker 20: Yeah, I've been really impressed with Spencer. He's a really
- 1:05:28Speaker 20: hard worker. He's been stepping up a lot, so I'm
- 1:05:31Speaker 20: really proud of him. In the rest of the room.
- 1:05:33Speaker 19: So Arch, you've been wearing that T shirt since you're
- 1:05:35Speaker 19: in this week.
- 1:05:36Speaker 8: How's it feel that we're in now and he's starting.
- 1:05:40Speaker 10: It feels good, you know. I've I've always wanted to.
- 1:05:41Speaker 20: Play college football, being a quarterback at a big time
- 1:05:44Speaker 20: in school.
- 1:05:45Speaker 10: So I'm not gonna take it for granted for sure.
- 1:05:47Speaker 8: Quinn always talked about how coach helped him.
- 1:05:51Speaker 19: Help him on install and teaching. How is that relationship then,
- 1:05:54Speaker 19: and that's.
- 1:05:55Speaker 15: Hard to do.
- 1:05:57Speaker 20: Yeah, I think we're as close as ever. He pushes us,
- 1:06:01Speaker 20: tries to give me to be intentional with everything I do.
- 1:06:03Speaker 20: So I'm really grateful for him and we we're really
- 1:06:05Speaker 20: close right now.
- 1:06:06Speaker 23: It'side from running with it was Is there anything different
- 1:06:08Speaker 23: preparation wise for you this spring as far as how
- 1:06:11Speaker 23: you're going about your business?
- 1:06:13Speaker 10: No, I don't think so.
- 1:06:14Speaker 20: I tried to at least I tried to prepare like
- 1:06:16Speaker 20: I was a starter every pride back then, So there's
- 1:06:18Speaker 20: not There's not much difference.
- 1:06:20Speaker 23: Did the other programs try to get you to transfer
- 1:06:22Speaker 23: the last.
- 1:06:23Speaker 5: Year or so?
- 1:06:25Speaker 20: I kind of had a good idea I was gonna
- 1:06:27Speaker 20: stay here, great idea. Yeah, Whether he sec schools no, no,
- 1:06:33Speaker 20: not that I know.
- 1:06:33Speaker 23: Did you work much with Cole this new quarterback center
- 1:06:37Speaker 23: exchange before this spring?
- 1:06:38Speaker 19: And then how's he doing with that?
- 1:06:39Speaker 10: And also the leadership you seen from being DJ Candell
- 1:06:42Speaker 10: up front?
- 1:06:43Speaker 20: Yeah, been really impressed with Cole. You know, Cole started
- 1:06:46Speaker 20: as a freshman at guard, so he has to playing
- 1:06:49Speaker 20: experience and he's been.
- 1:06:50Speaker 10: Good at center.
- 1:06:50Speaker 20: Yeah, we would throw in the winner and I'd have
- 1:06:52Speaker 20: him come snap when we're throwing the receivers. So him
- 1:06:54Speaker 20: and Dj DJ brings a lot of energy and he's
- 1:06:56Speaker 20: just good for the locker room. So I'm excited to
- 1:06:58Speaker 20: have those two blocking for.
- 1:06:59Speaker 7: Me, your ground posts coming down and put the leagues
- 1:07:02Speaker 7: to beacause of him. Numbers.
- 1:07:03Speaker 19: Where you gonna take the meat?
- 1:07:05Speaker 10: Yeah, we're going to get dinner that Wednesday night.
- 1:07:08Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 1:07:08Speaker 10: I don't know if I want to tell everyone that.
- 1:07:16Speaker 23: Is, everybody in your breading class, whether it's someone like
- 1:07:18Speaker 23: Nico or Dante.
- 1:07:20Speaker 19: Did you look at the path they took and you
- 1:07:22Speaker 19: look at the path.
- 1:07:23Speaker 7: You took and think like you got better into the
- 1:07:26Speaker 7: deal and how.
- 1:07:27Speaker 23: People handle in Texas compared to what they were able
- 1:07:29Speaker 23: to do.
- 1:07:30Speaker 10: Yeah, I don't really like to like, look at that.
- 1:07:32Speaker 20: I'm gonna see all those guys at Manning Past Academy
- 1:07:34Speaker 20: this summer, so I'm excited to catch up with them,
- 1:07:37Speaker 20: see how they're doing.
- 1:07:38Speaker 10: But really focus on myself, especially enough.
- 1:07:41Speaker 8: Can you talk about just being patient and kind of
- 1:07:43Speaker 8: waiting for your turn, like in second there.
- 1:07:46Speaker 19: Or where everyone's just jumps in a portal if it
- 1:07:48Speaker 19: doesn't happen instantly, you can just talk about being patient
- 1:07:51Speaker 19: and why that was important.
- 1:07:52Speaker 10: To Yeah, it was tough.
- 1:07:54Speaker 20: I mean it's tough in this age, but I think
- 1:07:57Speaker 20: I hope pays off.
- 1:08:00Speaker 10: Like I said, there's nowhere else I want to be.
- 1:08:02Speaker 20: Uh, I want to be at Texta got friends here,
- 1:08:04Speaker 20: love his play, so I want to be the quarterback
- 1:08:06Speaker 20: of Universe Texas. So sometimes it's worth the wait with that.
- 1:08:09Speaker 20: The first time you have been a backup in your
- 1:08:12Speaker 20: in your life, yeah, I started as a freshman high school,
- 1:08:14Speaker 20: but I didn't I was always a backup in basketball,
- 1:08:16Speaker 20: So I guess I kind of.
- 1:08:19Speaker 19: Arch Steve Fraser edition Pether.
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: Your leadership ability these talking sloth's on Tuesday, does that
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: come natural to you or is it the process trying
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: and for each a leader?
- 1:08:27Speaker 10: Yeah, I think some of it comes naturally. But our
- 1:08:30Speaker 10: staff coach Neil.
- 1:08:31Speaker 20: Brown's been doing a really good job with me, just
- 1:08:33Speaker 20: trying to be a better leader, you know, stay with
- 1:08:35Speaker 20: different people at breakfast and just get the team rallied
- 1:08:39Speaker 20: around me.
- 1:08:43Speaker 9: Our startman's talking to us about reorganizing, spraying a little
- 1:08:46Speaker 9: bit and trying to modify it to make it look
- 1:08:48Speaker 9: like the NFL Spring incorporates some more teaching.
- 1:08:51Speaker 19: What what's changed and your you have what is your
- 1:08:53Speaker 19: day look like?
- 1:08:53Speaker 20: That's any dacent for last Yeah, I think just getting
- 1:08:56Speaker 20: these young guys up to speed, and I trust what
- 1:09:00Speaker 20: he thinks about how we should do with this spring
- 1:09:02Speaker 20: and so yeah, that's that.
- 1:09:05Speaker 19: He saw Trade similar with you back here. What's he
- 1:09:08Speaker 19: like in the backfield in the buddle?
- 1:09:10Speaker 20: Yeah, Trade Trade's the man. He uh, he brings energy
- 1:09:13Speaker 20: every day. He's a the hardest worker on the team.
- 1:09:15Speaker 20: So it's a it's it's cool being in the back
- 1:09:17Speaker 20: of it with him. He can make you laugh, but
- 1:09:19Speaker 20: he could also just have your back at all time.
- 1:09:20Speaker 20: So he's a loyal, loyal.
- 1:09:22Speaker 22: Teammate, the best smack talker And I'm going to be
- 1:09:26Speaker 22: Tad or somebody.
- 1:09:26Speaker 20: Else that the best smack t I don't know if
- 1:09:30Speaker 20: I can say lines up here, but uh, i'd say
- 1:09:33Speaker 20: Colin talks a lot of smack. Yeah, any particular lines,
- 1:09:37Speaker 20: I don't know if it's appropriate for anything.
- 1:09:40Speaker 19: Hard. Do you ever get a chance to work with your.
- 1:09:42Speaker 8: Dad or your uncles to own your craft or you
- 1:09:45Speaker 8: kind of submarating dad work with the conchies here?
- 1:09:48Speaker 20: Yeah, I think once I got to college, I'm just
- 1:09:49Speaker 20: working with the coaches. If I go home, I'll go
- 1:09:51Speaker 20: throw with my dad. But uh, and occasionally with Peyton
- 1:09:54Speaker 20: if he's in town. But other than that, I'm with
- 1:09:56Speaker 20: Milly and Sark and Mike Amante.
- 1:10:00Speaker 19: You mentioned Neil Brown. Him coming there has a special system.
- 1:10:04Speaker 19: But what's it like just to have somebody who's got more.
- 1:10:06Speaker 23: Power conference cultural experience companies, to have another other voice
- 1:10:10Speaker 23: of the road.
- 1:10:10Speaker 20: Yeah, it's great to just have a voice where he's
- 1:10:13Speaker 20: not talking excell and O's with me. He's talking leadership
- 1:10:15Speaker 20: and you know, take the guys out to eat stuff
- 1:10:18Speaker 20: like that, just to to get more chemistry on the team,
- 1:10:21Speaker 20: to get.
- 1:10:21Speaker 22: Another al deal glory some DRIPU. Is there a company
- 1:10:30Speaker 22: you're want that represent that you know somebody you wish
- 1:10:33Speaker 22: you would reach out, but.
- 1:10:34Speaker 10: I don't think so very so very so.
- 1:10:38Speaker 20: I think I'm just focused on spring ball right now.
- 1:10:40Speaker 20: Got all that and I all stuff out of the way.
- 1:10:42Speaker 19: To go back to the leadership though.
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: I mean, that's that stuff that just can't worn overnight.
- 1:10:46Speaker 19: That's an acquired, over time type of deal.
- 1:10:49Speaker 7: What is the key?
- 1:10:50Speaker 19: What's the key to winning guys? Trust?
- 1:10:52Speaker 10: Yeah, I think you have to walk the walk.
- 1:10:55Speaker 20: You gotta work hard, and you know it's a game
- 1:10:59Speaker 20: after all, so you gotta have fun, smile, laugh, know
- 1:11:02Speaker 20: that you're going to back these guys up and play
- 1:11:03Speaker 20: for them. But I think I'm imperfect, Like I'm gonna
- 1:11:06Speaker 20: make some leadership mistakes. But it's just continuing to grow
- 1:11:09Speaker 20: get better every day.
- 1:11:10Speaker 19: You see, we're in a good basketball player.
- 1:11:12Speaker 10: I was all right, I was better at pick up
- 1:11:13Speaker 10: in the real game.
- 1:11:14Speaker 19: You guys want to state championship.
- 1:11:16Speaker 10: Yeah, we want to state championship. I was like the
- 1:11:19Speaker 10: six or soven man.
- 1:11:21Speaker 23: Starts to mention that there are spots they're gonna look
- 1:11:24Speaker 23: at the quarter for on offense.
- 1:11:26Speaker 19: Can you kind of recognize that.
- 1:11:28Speaker 23: The players who may enter the quarter are going to
- 1:11:30Speaker 23: see you, see your name and be gravitating to Texas
- 1:11:33Speaker 23: because of that you do anything as a result.
- 1:11:36Speaker 10: I sure hope.
- 1:11:36Speaker 20: So, yeah, I sure hope they want to come here,
- 1:11:39Speaker 20: have the best players possible. But you know, I'm satisfied
- 1:11:41Speaker 20: with the group right now. Whoever wants to come here
- 1:11:43Speaker 20: will welcome them with open arms.
- 1:11:44Speaker 19: Did you ask us for Arch?
- 1:11:46Speaker 8: So Arch, They're gonna experience a love from the fans
- 1:11:51Speaker 8: loving let you're lose.
- 1:11:53Speaker 19: Do you have an affinity towards the fans?
- 1:11:55Speaker 8: Do you feel and energy Maybe when you're in the stadium,
- 1:11:58Speaker 8: but in all the media that's going around what's your
- 1:12:01Speaker 8: name or stuff like that?
- 1:12:02Speaker 19: Do you feel that? And how do you do you
- 1:12:04Speaker 19: love the fans as much as say about you?
- 1:12:05Speaker 10: Yeah, I love the fans. I think the fans are
- 1:12:07Speaker 10: great to all of us.
- 1:12:08Speaker 20: We have a great fan base for all athletics and
- 1:12:11Speaker 20: really grateful for the.
- 1:12:12Speaker 10: For the fandom.
- 1:12:14Speaker 7: Going to get booth.
- 1:12:15Speaker 10: Hell yeah, I'm sorry.
- 1:12:18Speaker 20: Yeah, yeah, I mean I've learned that. You know, you
- 1:12:22Speaker 20: can't ride the emotional roller coach. You just got to
- 1:12:25Speaker 20: stay straight. You know, it's great when you win, it's
- 1:12:26Speaker 20: great when you lose. It's not great when you lose,
- 1:12:28Speaker 20: but you know, you just got to keep that same
- 1:12:29Speaker 20: mindset what do you weigh now we're both away in
- 1:12:32Speaker 20: the fall way about two twenty I think I'm around
- 1:12:35Speaker 20: two twenty five to two thirty would be good.
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: Who knew that?
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: And me and Arch were alike in terms of we're
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: gonna pick up basketball but not good at the real thing.
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: That's probably where the similarities begin and end between me
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: and Arch Manning.
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: But there he is QB one.
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: Some sound from Trey Wiser praps on tomorrow's program. With
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: springball officially underway, I do you want to hear more
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: recap of springball?
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: Check out my interview with c J.
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: Folliwill earlier today two o'clock hour that will be posted
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: to the Craigway Show podcast page on the Free iHeart
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: Radio at More to come here before we close out
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: today's show. A quick updates from the Masters, where Roy
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: McElroy a birdie on the par five to twelfth hole.
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: He has four shots back from Justin Rose, who got
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: a little bit of tree trouble on seventeen, able to
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: get out of it make par, but once again has
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: not found the fairway on the eighteenth hole, so some
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: work to do. He is currently evaluating his options standing
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: on the Pinestrial going to have to pitch out, perhaps
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: on the eighteenth hole, so he will hold on to
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: the first round lead into the clubhouse depends on how
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: will he be at eight under, seven under, or maybe
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: even worse than that. But curtainly, your clubhouse leaders are
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: Corey Connors and Scottie Scheffler at four hundred par after
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: a pair of sixty eight's ludfit Aberg and Bryce and
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: the Shambeau both two under par right now they're on
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: the fourteenth hole. Mentioned Rory already at four hunder par.
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: He's got one more par five to go. Could Roy
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: McRoy perhaps get to five under par? More updates for
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: the maskers up next, though, gonna look at the draft boards.
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: We talked about maybe three long Horns going in the
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: first round. Could there be more? Could there be less?
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: We're gonna find out up next here as our three
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: of the Greigway Show continues on this Thursday afternoon, two
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: weeks away from the NFL Draft and the Texas Longhorns
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: in position to set a program record for most draft
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: picks selected rapps, We're looking at least possibly three in
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: the first rounds were likely? Will it be Johnny Baron
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: or maybe Matthew Golden first off the board, could it
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: be Kelvin Banks.
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: Well, let's take a look.
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: At Dane Brugler's NFL draft guy from the Ringer, sorry,
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: from the Athletic called the Beast. You look to the
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: top one hundred players and we'll start with the quarterbacks.
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: His listing so far in the top five cam Ward
- 1:14:57Speaker 2: at number one, should Or Sanders number two, Jack in
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: Dart three, Tyler Shuck at four. He was a former
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: Texas Tech quarterback in number five. Gilen Milroe about Quinn
- 1:15:06Speaker 2: yours well number six, currently eighty six out of the
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: top one hundred players. And this is what Dane Brewler
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: has to say about the former QB one for the
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: Texas Longhorns. So, Quinn yours he comes in with questions
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: abounding about his his arm strength, but overall his IQ
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: is one thing that gives him a lot of leeway
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: with NFL teams.
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: This is what Brugler has to say.
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: Yours operated well and head coach Steve Sarakesian's RBO base
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: spread scheme offense with heavy pre snap movement. After a
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: high profile recruitment and transfer, he made key improvements over
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: his time in Austin engineered one of the best back
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: to back runs in Longhorns history. But he trust his
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: arm over mechanics. Yours screens rotational torque to get the
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: ball quickly and plays with fast size within the structure
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: or the offense. He didn't have a true didn't have
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: a ton of true dropbacks until third down, which is
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: one of his inconsistent pocket princess pocket presence led to
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: more negative results saxon turnovers and you want to see
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: on third downs fifty five point eight percent completions nine
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: to seven touchdown to interception ratio. In twenty twenty four,
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: the physicality of a long season war on his body,
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: and though he was willing the play through pain, his
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: execution clearly was affected. Overall, Yours has the arm intelligence
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: in poise that will translate to the next level. Although
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: it was up and down decision making, limitation as a
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: play extender in durability concerns great questions and marks for
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: his pro ceiling. If he stays healthy, the tools are
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: there to compete for NFL starting reps, rulers grade third
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: round him.
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: That does make sense.
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: I think for quinn ewors A lot of times with
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: quarterbacks and we've seen all the time teams which has
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: fall in love with the potential right this ceiling for quarterback.
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: A lot of teams in love with the ceiling of
- 1:16:53Speaker 2: cam Ward. They're in love with the ceiling of Jaln Milroe.
- 1:16:57Speaker 2: For Quinn, youewers, I'm not saying he's a finished product,
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: but you know what his arm strength is. You know
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: he has a quick release, and you know his level
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: IQ is high. Now, well that translate to every NFL team,
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: Probably not. I think Quinn is a great fit if
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: he's in the RPO based offense, If he lands in
- 1:17:15Speaker 2: the style or structure similar to Sean McVay in Los
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: Angeles or Mike McDaniel and Miami, or Kyle shanahan in
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: San Francisco, Lafleur in Green Bay, I think he can
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: fit in a system like that in be excellent. I
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: think we can see yours have a similar type career
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: to Colt McCoy where he's in the league for ten
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: to fifteen years now. I think he can be a
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: starter in certain offenses. But again, kind of like Colt.
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: The one thing that did come back to by Colt
- 1:17:44Speaker 2: was what his ability to stay healthy and also his
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: arm strength, and that is what a lot of NFL
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: teams look like.
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: Now, Okay, look at bow Knicks in Denver. You know
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: bow Nicks.
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: You know he didn't throw the ball more than ten
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: hearts down the field at Oregon. And he had a
- 1:17:58Speaker 2: solid year in for in the right scheme, in the
- 1:18:01Speaker 2: right fit with John Payton. So if Quinn can landed
- 1:18:04Speaker 2: a team, I think that will build around him or
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: built an offense base to who's base, to his straints.
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: I think Quinn can have a very successful NFL season.
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: Of course, when have we seen Quinn healthy?
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: Right?
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: I think a lot of blame was put on Quinn
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: the way he performed on the second half of the season.
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: I think it was just he wasn't healthy second half
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: against Kentucky, he was unhealthy against A and M.
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: He could barely move.
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: But that shows you how tough a player he was,
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: and I hopefully that's what Texas fans will remember about
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: Quinn yours, his ability to tough it out the play
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: through injury. I do not think he was one hundred
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: percent against Ohio State. I don't think he was one
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: hundred percent against Arizona State. He was on one hundred
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: percent against Georgia right, but he's still played through the pain.
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: He's still toped it out in third round grade from
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: Dane Brugler, We'll see where he ends up. Okay, Kelvin Banks,
- 1:18:56Speaker 2: the offensive lineman, where will he end up?
- 1:18:59Speaker 3: The guard? Right now?
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: Now, he's the second ranked guard according to Dane Brugler's
- 1:19:02Speaker 2: twenty twenty five NFL Draft twenty six overall, and the
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: headline for Calvin Banks is well this spite, this spite
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: ideal length. He does project to be an immediate starter.
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: A three year starter at Texas, Banks was a fixture
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: at left tackle and a head and head coach Steve
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: Sarkisian's multiple run scheme offenses. Spite not moving to the
- 1:19:26Speaker 2: old line until high school, he looks like he's been
- 1:19:29Speaker 2: playing there his entire life. It was not a coincidence
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: that the long courts rise mirrored banks tenure with well
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: time feet and hard work and handwork. Rather, Banks is
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: natural and passed protection and shows an instinctive field to
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: attack with leverage and great force through his body mechanics.
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: His balance can be too easily disrupted, though, especially in
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: the running game, which can leave him overextended or on
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: the ground Overall, Banks doesn't have an ideal length. It
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: needs to improve his sustained tactics to be consistent finisher
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: against NFL talent, but he has controlled footwork in depth in.
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: His past sets.
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: Plus the fun will know how to fit and leverage
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: blocks and keep defenders occupied. He does project as in
- 1:20:04Speaker 2: the media NFL starter who can stay at tackle, although
- 1:20:07Speaker 2: his best long term position might be guard. His grade
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: from Dane Brugler was first to second round. Now he
- 1:20:14Speaker 2: will be a first round draft pick, and it depends
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: on what teams see him as because we're seeing the
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: same issues right with is it Will Campbell or sorry, yeah,
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: Will Campbell lsu or people are criticizing his arm length,
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: but teams believe that Will Campbell can stay as a tackle.
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: Now will a team want Kelvin Banks to be a
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: tackle or do they see him as as a guard?
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: And that I think that will dictate in the tomament
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: where Calvin Banks does end up.
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: Okay, joh Dy Barren.
- 1:20:45Speaker 2: And there are some reports today coming out that the
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: Los Angeles Raiders may be interested Las Vegas Raiders rather
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: could be interested in Johdy Barren. Dane Brugler's guide, he
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: is third right now top sorry third cornerback, thirtieth overall
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: in the top one hundred. A three year starter at Texas,
- 1:21:05Speaker 2: Baron played the star hybrid position in defensive coordinators Pete
- 1:21:07Speaker 2: Wakowski's son heavy scheme, seeing time at corner safety in
- 1:21:11Speaker 2: nickel and dime. After playing primary inside as an underclass
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: When he moved outside in twenty twenty four and led
- 1:21:16Speaker 2: the sec both interceptions in passes defended, he became the
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: third Longhorn to win the Jim Thorpe Award as a
- 1:21:22Speaker 2: nation's top defensive back. He holds a master's degree in
- 1:21:25Speaker 2: coverage scheme. Sends on a great job developing the mental
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: part of his game, giving himself a head start king
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: in diagnosing the quarterback in blocking scheme.
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: It doesn't have the.
- 1:21:34Speaker 2: Burst for easy recoveries, he does play with supreme confidence
- 1:21:37Speaker 2: and physicality without crossing the line, especially in so and covers. Overall,
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: Baron doesn't have the top tier size that most teams
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: prioritize at the cornerback position, but he does trust his
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: instincts and competes with the toughness in ball skills to
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: hold up versus pass or run. Some teams view him
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: as a Nickel only prospect, while others see his value
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: to play multiple positions across the secondary. Barn played everything
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: at Texas. Right, he played Star Nickel, cornerback and by
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: the end of his Texas career, how many times do
- 1:22:06Speaker 2: you guys remember teams targeting Ji Dy Baron defensively few
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: and far between. Right, it felt like teams never tried
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: to attack Jidie Baron, and when they did, especially on
- 1:22:18Speaker 2: third downs, Barons would come up with huge, huge plays.
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: He became such as straight with the Texas defense and
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: that's contributed to who his big rise up and down
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: the draft boards. His draft grade from Dane Brugler is
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: first in second round. Again, we're hearing a lot of
- 1:22:34Speaker 2: murmers about teams maybe moving down in grabbing him as well.
- 1:22:38Speaker 2: But Baron could be up there in the first round
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: alongside Calvin Banks. And the other first round draft pick
- 1:22:45Speaker 2: rafts for Texas is Matthew Golden. I'm sure you guys
- 1:22:48Speaker 2: have seen the pictures circulating social media of Matthew Golden
- 1:22:52Speaker 2: alongside Jerry Jones. Golden was at the Star yesterday for
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: an official visit. He may be the first receiver off
- 1:22:59Speaker 2: the board. Tita McMillan from Arizona up there as well,
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: but the projection from Dane Brugler is a first and
- 1:23:07Speaker 2: second round grade. And here's what Brugler had to say
- 1:23:09Speaker 2: about Matthew Golden. Golden was the Sea receiver and head
- 1:23:12Speaker 2: coach Steve Sarkisian's RPO pro style spread offense and was
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: used across the formation with heavy motions. After two promising
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: seasons in the Houston's air raid scheme, he was an
- 1:23:21Speaker 2: underratedition for long corns. In twenty twenty four, improved especially
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: valuable when it mattered most, averaging one hundred and twenty
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: one hundred and two yards per game over his final
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: four games. Of course, we remember the Arizona State fourth
- 1:23:32Speaker 2: down catch that will be cemented in Longhorn's lower Forever
- 1:23:36Speaker 2: him and Quinn yours, Bruger continues fluid in and out
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: of his breaks. Golden shows a plan as a route runner.
- 1:23:43Speaker 2: I love his ability to his ability to break down
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: corners by keeping his eyes, hips and feet and seeing
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: that coordination also translates to the catch point with his
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: very natural ball skills to track, frame and finish. Overall,
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: it might bother some teams that he doesn't have better size,
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: but Golden also doesn't have any glaring flaws to his
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: game that would keep him from becoming a productive pro.
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: He can play inside or outside and become the go
- 1:24:03Speaker 2: to target for an NFL offense. I thought his route
- 1:24:06Speaker 2: running last season was some of the best route running
- 1:24:08Speaker 2: we've seen from a Texas receiver. It reminds me kind
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: of a Fixavier Worthy, but Worthy was so quick with
- 1:24:14Speaker 2: that first step. Golden his route running, I mean, he
- 1:24:17Speaker 2: could run anything in the route tree. And that's why
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: he developed such a great relationship with Quinn yours because
- 1:24:23Speaker 2: Golden could run anything that Steve Sarkijan want him to
- 1:24:26Speaker 2: run in the course was so clutch down the stretch
- 1:24:29Speaker 2: for text, I mean Arizona State and mentioned the fourth down,
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: the fourth and what thirteen? How about the fourth and
- 1:24:34Speaker 2: eight catch? Was that early on in the game. Was
- 1:24:37Speaker 2: the first or second quarter? It might have been like
- 1:24:39Speaker 2: fourth or two when yours in the gun Golden to
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: his left, he threw it on the sideline.
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: It was a tiptoe catch.
- 1:24:47Speaker 2: It was such a hard play, but it kind of
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: this demonstrated the trust that yours in Golden had with
- 1:24:53Speaker 2: each other. In Golden's ability to make the catch, Leeb.
- 1:24:56Speaker 2: He got two feet inbounds. It just shows you why
- 1:24:59Speaker 2: Go is going to be possibly the first receiver taking
- 1:25:02Speaker 2: off the board, if not the first.
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: And likely the second.
- 1:25:05Speaker 2: But all in all, we could see three longhorns taken
- 1:25:08Speaker 2: in the first round. We'll be back to wrap up
- 1:25:10Speaker 2: today's show here on iHeartRadio.
